I purchased range #WFE361LVSO on 10/1/09. It did not keep the correct oven temperature. I ordered service call. They came out on 10/31 and had to order parts. The parts finally came on Nov 10. Service was supposed to be here between 8-12. They showed up at 6 p.m. (I took a day off for nothing). They replaced the temperature sensor and computer panel. This seemed to work for a little while. On December 20th, the problem reared its ugly head again. I called Whirlpool (Nicole). She agreed that the unit should be replaced.
I didn't hear from anyone within 24 hours so I called again - the response was "Nicole didn't put that in the notes". It was a complete run-around 3 days before Christmas. They finally informed me that I'd get my new stove in 7-10 business days. That's just perfect as I was having 20 people to my house for Christmas dinner - the new stove would be here by New Year's! In a desperate attempt, I called the manager at Lowe's (where I purchased the unit) in Dayville, CT in the hopes that maybe he could intervene on my behalf w/ Whirlpool. He told me to get a return authorization number from them and he'd deliver a new unit that afternoon! Great, I thought.
I called Whirlpool back. Their response was that it was IMPOSSIBLE to give me an RA number. I called Lowe's back - he called them and got the same response. Manager at Lowe's was so disgusted with them that he had a new unit delivered to me the next day. New unit wasn't much better than the first. However, I made it through Christmas dinner even though I had to stand in front of the stove the whole time the meals were in the oven so the temperature didn't go up to 500 degrees (I had to keep opening the door to cool it off).
Lowe's called the day after Christmas to make sure everything was okay - they delivered yet another new range on 12/27. Range #3 was okay for a week - same problem. You can set the temp on 350 deg; top temp in oven is anywhere between 250 deg and 325 deg and then it will suddenly rise to 400 deg. I called Whirlpool again - Reena, the supervisor, told me the temp needed to be "re-calibrated" and told me to look at the manual. I argued that the temperature swing was too erratic - she ordered yet another service call (great, another day off). She refused to allow me to talk w/ HER supervisor. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!

I bought a Whirlpool electric double wall oven. One of the reasons I bought it was that both ovens had a self-cleaning cycle. Every single time I use the self-cleaning cycle, something breaks. If I clean the top oven, the heat would melt the circuitry in the control panel on top of the oven and render it inoperable. I would have to have a service call. So, I stopped running the self-clean and did it the old-fashioned way. The last service tech we had said that the oven should never be self-cleaned as the heat always caused problems. I wrote to Whirlpool several times (to the attention of the President by name) and got no response. The last straw was this week when I ran the self-clean on the bottom oven. I thought that the distance between the bottom oven and control panel would save the control panel and it did. However, it ruined the heating element and now that oven will not heat up. A service tech told us that it would be expensive and be a two-person job as the oven would have to be pulled out of the wall to be repaired. We have decided to replace the unit but I wanted others to know that this product has bad design and that Whirlpool has no interest in standing behind its products. We will be looking at GE, Bosch or Electrolux.

I purchased a standalone Whirlpool Oven 5 years ago. Every time I use the self cleaner on the oven - it blows a $35.00 fuse. I asked a reputable appliance repairman in our area and he knew what I was talking about. He said it was a bad design. The fuse in question (that runs the oven) is too close to the wall of the oven and when the self-cleaning mode is on...it gets too hot and blows the fuse. He suggested I contact the Whirlpool. They said, “Sorry...no recalls...out of warranty...good luck!” I can't afford a $35.00 fuse every time I clean the oven. Come on Whirlpool...accept the bad design and fix our ovens!!!!!

I just want to report that whoever designed the grates for the Whirlpool gas cooktops never used one in their life. The sauce pans and the pots rock from side to side because the grates are not flat. They are higher right over the center of the burner. I called and the tech arrived the next day. He could not believe it and we agreed that this was not safe for hot liquids in pots or pans. He called it in and they sent me another set of grates. They were the very same way. A few days later, we were visiting some friends who just built a new home and used the top line gas cooktop by Whirlpool. Guess what? The grates were not level and had the same problem as mine. Whirlpool is not interested in hearing anymore about it. I just wanted to let people know, if you are thinking about buying a Whirlpool gas cooktop, take your pots and pans to the store with you to make sure they sit level and flat on the one you are buying.

I cleaned by brand new Whirlpool oven for the first time and the glass door became permanently stained with grease. This is a defect in this model #gfe461lvs0. Whirlpool said that this does occur and because it is cosmetic and not a functional defect they would not take it back. They sent someone to replace the glass. They told me to use a store product rather than use the self cleaning device to prevent this from occurring again. This is crazy. They are also sending me $75 and extending the warranty for a year BUT ONLY ON A FUNCTIONING DEFECT, NOT ON THIS PROBLEM OF THE DOOR BECOMING FILTHY PERMANENTLY. Consequence: A brand new oven that looks 15 years old and dirty.

Our Whirlpool gas range keeps turning itself on without a person realizing that it has happened. The knobs are on the front of the unit and if your body passes it by, it can turn on the gas without knowing. We came home from being out the other day and smelt gas in the house. It was caused from the Whirlpool Gold Gas Range leaking gas after one of the knobs had been accidentally brushed past it. Knobs should either be put on top of the range or a safety device designed to prevent this accident from happening.Luckily, we got the gas turned off in time to avoid a disaster.

My problem is that every time that I use my stove, the knobs in front of the stove move when I'm not even aware. When I start to smell gas is when I noticed that I must have gotten too close to the knobs and turn them on with my body. If I were to ever design a stove, I would put the knobs right on top of the stove itself and nobody can get hurt this way. Even a child is able to turn on the stove. This is very dangerous. I am sure you had other customers complaining about this. If not, then I think it's a good idea to have a different design in the future for the safety of your customers. It is very annoying every time this happens to me or someone else in my family.

My experience tonight with my Whirlpool gas range prompted me to write to tell you that I think the Whirlpool makes the worst appliances. I built a new home 3 years ago and had a Whirlpool gas range and dishwasher. Right from the beginning, my stove didn't work right - the ignitor for the oven was defective and wouldn't turn on when I was ready to bake or cook and had to be replaced by a local firm. The part he got from Whirlpool did not fix the problem. He got another part - still not resolved. Finally after many phone calls and complaints to Whirlpool, they finally came and fixed it again about 6 months ago. All was ok until tonight when I was trying to bake Christmas cookies. The oven wouldn't go on again! Apparently, the part they replaced has bitten the dust. Whirlpool has all my complaints and service calls. I dislike their customer service so much; I don't even want to call them again.
I made a long story short, but I believe I got a "lemon" stove and it should have been replaced. I see others have had no better luck with their appliances. With such an unreliable stove, I will probably go out and buy another brand and hope this one goes in the junk heap where it belongs. My dishwasher is just ok - had to have that repaired once also. 3-year-old appliances should not be this troublesome, unless they are so poorly made.

I just bought a Whirlpool stove in July of this year. When making Thanksgiving dinner, I put a 20 pound turkey in the oven. This amount of weight was too much for the oven rack and the rack bowed, causing the turkey and rack to fall to bottom of oven. I tried to grab the turkey and boiling liquid splashed out of the pan and onto my arm. I have been making turkeys of this size for years and never has an oven rack not supported it or pulled out of the side tracks like that. I believe you should look into the quality of racks in your new stoves. I have a burn on my arm that could have resulted in something much worst had the whole pan turned over. The burn on my wrist is about 4 inches round.

I will not purchase another Whirlpool appliance EVER AGAIN. At $40 per fix, it has become quite costly to maintain. From reading the reports on just this website, there should have been a recall on this product. Where is the CPSC on this matter? The key is not to use the self-cleaning mode (of course, it took us $120 to figure this one out). Why have a self-cleaning oven if you can't use it?

I purchased a Whirlpool Accubake (Model RBS275PDB6) wall oven in July 1999. To date, I have replaced the thermocouple/sensor 5 times. The first time, the store (where the oven was purchased) came and added some insulation to the wall oven and replaced the fan; but the problem persisted. The culprit seems to be the self-cleaning cycle. Each failure has occurred after using the self-cleaning cycle. I purchased this house after my husband died in October 2004. The house was new and on the market since 2003. Last month, the lower part of the built-in Whirlpool Gold double oven no longer heated up. So, I used just the top part of the oven until yesterday, when the top control panel issued error codes E6 (red LED) and F2 (blue LED). I checked the fuse in the master fuse box and the oven fuse is not thrown and the lights in the oven still work. I've been on the phone from 9:00 to 10:15 this morning (mainly on hold) trying to report the problem to Whirlpool.
The answering service was located in Texas and the woman was truly trying her best. I received the name of a "local" service, which is not local to me for I'm 18 miles from town in Tomales, CA. The earliest time for an appointment is next Wednesday. I'm retired from the computer industry and using my background in computer circuitry. I'm of the opinion that the control panel was designed to fail when the guarantee period expired (within a month of expiration). It's easy to insert a clock on a motherboard.

Whirlpool gas range’s control panel/computer is junk! The problem is that if you use the self-cleaning button, the oven then throws a fit. There should be a major recall on this oven as many people have had this problem as well. The only thing I can say is that I will not fix this. There will be another oven here for less money and I know that it will not be built by Whirlpool. The consequence: $1,000.

In 2002, I purchased a Whirlpool Gold range from Sears Canada. After about 1 year of operation, the stove timer displayed an error message indicating the timer had failed - of course, the 1 year warranty was expired. The local dealer for Whirlpool replaced the timer at a cost of $300.00. A month later, the timer failed again and was replaced by the local dealer at no cost to me.
At this time, the local dealer suggested I contact Whirlpool to establish a record of the problem I was having and I did so. I should point out that even though the timer failed, the top portion of the stove continued to operate - only, the oven was unusable. A year later, the same error message indicated the timer had once again failed. On each of the failure occasions, I contacted Whirlpool to ask them if this was a recurring problem with this stove model and they denied there was.
At this point, I am fairly certain that there is a problem in the wiring with this stove that is causing the timer to fail but do not have the resources or the ability to find that problem. Once again, when I contacted Whirlpool, they stated there was nothing they could do. At this point, I feel that I must cut my losses and purchase a new stove of a different manufacturer. I would like to advise anyone else considering a Whirlpool product to avoid Whirlpool ranges.

Our Whirlpool gas range (model number SF114PXSQ0) began beeping and displaying an "F5" error code for no apparent reason. When the panel is reset, the error code returns within 5 minutes. This range is only 2 or 3 years old and it has been used less than 20 times. Behind the control panel, on the back side of the printed circuit board, I noticed that the connecting pins of the processor are covered with corrosion.
It seems to me that the corrosion on the board is the result of a manufacturing defect. Circuit board corrosion is caused by a combination of ionic contamination and moisture in the presence of an applied voltage. Under these conditions, an electrochemical process forms dendrites, which then short circuit components on the board. Although the presence of moisture and voltage is unavoidable in this application, ionic contamination of circuit boards is typically the result of improper cleaning and/or handling by its manufacturer.
The cost of a new control board is $177.85. However, I am very hesitant about buying (another) one of these boards for several reasons. First, appliance repair websites as well as ConsumerAffairs.com are flooded with complaints involving faulty control boards in Whirlpool appliances (according to Whirlpool, these are only "occasionally failures"). Second, many of the complainants state that they have had to replace their faulty control boards two or more times before eventually giving up and buying a new appliance. Lastly, Whirlpool denies that there are any problems with their products.

I purchased a Maytag gas range, approximately 6 years ago. A few months ago, I began smelling gas, whenever the high output burner was lit. I smelled it a few times, and I stopped using that burner. I used the other 3 burners. After a few months of not using that burner, I decided to try it. I lit it and tried to boil water on it. I went to the bathroom and back in about 5 minutes. My house reeks of gas. I immediately turned the stove off, and opened all the windows, to air out the house, and get rid of the smell. I tried another, and I saw flames coming from under the seal of one of the burners. I immediately turned that one off.
I phoned the gas company to check the unit out. They came and determined that the unit is not safe to use. I contacted Sears, and they said the unit is not under any warranty. I contacted the customer service for Maytag, which is Whirlpool. I contacted Eva through their 866 number. She arranged for a WinServ tech to check out the range. The tech came and inspected the unit. He determined three of the burners were burnt out and corroded. There were corroded holes in the burners, which were allowing gas to escape. I think, that an low quality parts were used in producing this, and could have been catastrophic.
Eva has agreed to repair the product. I waited for two weeks, which is the time frame set by WinServ. That's how long it will take for us to get the necessary parts. I called WinServ on the 10th day, to check on the schedule for the service. I was then informed, that Whirlpool is not going to pay for the repair. I was very upset to hear that a large company, who made a defective product, cannot repair the unit. I had to spend $1,500 for a new range. I could not cook for three weeks. I waited for two weeks, before I was told Whirlpool will not repair the unit. I waited another week to research and order a new unit.

We started with having problems with the way it baked and the fact that you couldn't push in the timer to get more than seconds at a time. The first repairman broke the timer loose and said that I should expect a longer heating time and to allow about 10 minutes after the temperature showed the temp to be where I had set it.
Then, the first time I ran the oven cleaner, it leaked smoke out the vent and turned the top oven plate a burned brown which I could not remove and the oven glass door leaked smoke between the layers, made brown stripes on the glass and turned the glass a greenish color. We purchased brand new Whirlpool appliances (refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and range) in June of 2006, to be delivered in July as we are purchasing a house. I think we spent in the range of $5,000.00 for all of them. The range/oven is a 30 inch slide in gas range model #GW395LEPS02 and had a one year manufacturer's warranty. The oven overheated, burning the food that was cooking in the oven and causing the house to be filled with smoke. I had a repairman come out to correct the problem. The oven worked again for a little over a year after that and now (out of warranty) the oven will not light.
I had a repairman come out to tell me that the module sensor needed to be replaced. This did not correct the problem and the oven will still not light. I have contacted Whirlpool on two separate occasions, to discuss this issue with them with little assistance. As a matter of fact, the second time I spoke with their customer service rep, she just sat silently while on the phone after I finished speaking. I would have to say, "Hello" several times to make sure she was still there since she made no comment after speaking myself.
The only thing she did say was that she was sorry and that she understood. She offered me a 10% family discount to purchase another oven. I asked to speak with her manager and she said that she was sorry as well and that the oven shouldn't have broken after only 2 1/2 years, two different times but that there wasn't anything they could do and that just happened sometimes and she was sorry. She offered me the 10% discount as well, to purchase another stove and said that Whirlpool stood behind their products.
I asked her if I corrected the problem with the oven that I have now and it broke again in a short amount of time, were they going to stand behind their product? She said that she couldn't guarantee anything. Not really sure what to do but don't think I will be purchasing another Whirlpool appliance again. When my husband said we have finally ordered a new stove since we did not hear from them and asked if they would just send us a check for the parts, so we could apply that money to the new stove (I know that was ridiculous but what did we have to lose at this point?!), he was told if we had purchased a Whirlpool or Maytag that they might have been able to do something for us. Two nights ago, our Whirlpool built-in oven was on the bake cycle and had been on for about 30 minutes when suddenly the top element came on and the oven would not shut off. We weren't even using the broiler element and we have never used the self-cleaning feature. My husband was able to get the food out, but when he closed the door, it locked and the element was still on and would not shut off. We had to go outside and down to the cellar to turn off the breaker to shut it off. By that time, the entire wall around the oven was hot to the touch and the odor of melted plastic was overwhelming. It took three hours for the oven and wall around it to cool off. We tried to turn it on again later but an error message came up and the top element came on, and the door was still locked.
We have service scheduled for Monday, but I don't trust the oven now and will probably try to come up with the money to buy a new one. The oven should have some kind of safety on it that would have automatically shut it off in this situation. The whole incident was very scary. I just cringe when I think if that had happened to one of my daughters and we weren't home. We would have had a fire on our hands. The oven is out of warranty, but is not more than eight years old or so. Since I can't get the oven door opened, I am unsure of the exact model number of the oven. The users' manual lists ten model numbers. RBS240PD is the first one listed. After reading all the other consumer complaints, we are not going to bother with having the oven serviced. We can't take the chance of that happening again. I am now without an oven and will have to purchase a new one. It will not be a Whirlpool.

I purchased a Whirlpool Slide In electric range in Oct. of 2005. (Model#GY398LXPB00) It cost $1268. Jan. 4, 2007, the oven would not work. Of course the range was out of warranty so I contacted a repair service. It cost $250 to replace the touch pad. On Dec. 31, 2008, the touch pad once again is not working and needs to be replaced. After reading other people's problems with the faulty touch pad, I guess I consider myself lucky that my touch pad lasted almost a year. Repeated attempts to try and get Whirlpool to admit a design flaw and cover the cost of the repair failed. They take no responsibility for the problem with the range. I, too, will never again purchase a Whirlpool appliance and will caution my friends and family not to purchase a Whirlpool appliance.

I bought a Whirlpool gas oven/range (2004) model SF369 & had tech here 3 times for different igniting problems. Main problem is intermittent igniting; Gas just pours out & no flame. I've called Whirlpool at least 6 times. It is so discouraging preparing family dinners & the oven won't light! Another problem I had is the oven would just turn off in the middle of baking something. The newest issue is the oven won't relight after it is warm. The tech was just here in October 08. The tech contacted Whirlpool & they can't guarantee what is wrong but want me to buy replacement parts that cost $300 plus the cost of labor. Parts include Igniter, DSI Board & Clock assembly due to flickering. The oven is still fairly new. One would expect it to last at least 5 years. I've already spent over $200 in service calls on a new oven. There has been ongoing problems since I bought it. Whirlpool CS only offered 20% off a new oven or 50% off parts - non refundable even though they can't guarantee the problem. I recently sent a letter to the CEO requesting replacement oven or replacement parts free of charge & labor. I am scared to use the oven, gas fumes pour out!

Self-cleaning is automatically set at 3 hrs. 30 min., but can be lowered to 2 hrs. 30 min. or raised to 4 hrs. 30 min. Oven was self-cleaned 12-20-04 - set time 3 hrs. 30 min. Wouldn't heat Xmas Eve 12-24-04. Called electrician and wiring was fine. Appliance repairman came. Diagnosis: it had overheated during cleaning and needed new magnetron (thermofuse). New one found in back of oven, it was repaired 1-2-05 so only labor and service charge, $79.
1-7-06 cleaned oven again, set time 2 hrs. 30 min.; that evening oven wouldn't heat again. New magnetron ordered and installed 2-23-06. Oven worked but new blower was needed. It came 3-7-08 but was wrong size. New blower ordered, installed 3-29 and also installed new control panel which workmen had damaged accidentally when they'd removed oven 3-7-06. Charge: $172.35. No charge for control panel. Wrote Whirlpool re this, received phone call saying nothing could be done as warranty had expired. All satisfactory for two years.
1-5-08 cleaned oven again. Set time 3 hrs. 30 min. Again oven went out. Also control panel. All replaced 1-22-08. Cost $355.04 Again I wrote Whirlpool and again same response: no warranty. 9-23-08, cleaned oven. Set time 2 hrs. 30 min. Tried to heat oven two days later, again no heat. FOUR times since purchase we've had this same problem in oven less than 5 years old. Total we've spent: $666.39. Phoned Whirlpool last week and Supervisor I'd asked for in Customer Service Dept. finally offered me 30% credit toward new Whirlpool oven. This oven we have now is a lemon and 30% is not acceptable, in our opinion.

Then the part was not covered under warranty. I had to pay $150 with shipping and tax to fix it.
Soon after that the microwave went dead. I have not fixed this yet, but now both items are useless. We paid over 1200 dollars for new cooking appliances, close to 200 dollars in repairs, and they are not even three yrs old and now I am looking to replace them again. The Model #'s are:

We purchased our cook top stove in Feb 2005 and have had nothing but problems with it since we purchased it. The very first time I ran my self cleaning oven, the ceramic cook top cracked, [they] replaced it, I didn't use my self cleaning oven again for 2 years because I was afraid it would crack again, but I had no choice when my daughter spilled something in the bottom of the oven, but it didn't crack I was so happy, but 2 days later when I used my oven to bake a pie crusts, I check on the crust by opening the door and when I closed it lightly, there was pop and the top had cracked again.
When my husband called because the first time it cracked the lady at the customer service said it has a 5 year warranty on it not to worry if it cracks it will be repaired at no charge, but when he called and mentioned the 5 year warranty, he was told no its only for the parts, not the service call or labor. WE would have to pay for that which would be about $75 or more. My husband told her we don't have $75 to get it repaired she said sorry nothing can be done. My husband is a disabled vet who works full time to support a family of 5 on. I can not believe a company with a reputation like doesn't stand behind what your products or warranty.
This is the second time we have ran our self clean oven and both times, the cook top cracked. So now our stove has gone from a simple hair line crack down the middle to 5 pieces where we have had to cook on it in order to feed our children. There is obviously a flaw in this stove if every time I use the self clean function on the stove it cracks the cook top. [They] should recall these stoves before some one or a child gets seriously injured or killed. Thank you
WE paid almost $400.00 for this stove and they expect us to pay for the labor and repair for a flaw in their range.

While under warranty, the oven wouldn't heat up and needed a new gas valve. The repair man told me that very seldom happened and the part would have to be sent for. Because of the wait,I was upset with the company that I bought the range from and they extended my warranty for one year beyond the manufacturer's warranty. Good thing! I had to have the timer fixed because it stopped working correctly and the broiler would light for a minute and shut off for a minute and continued doing this for about 6-8 minutes before it would stay lit. Both repairs were covered under the extended warranty. Now I worry about what's going to go wrong after the warranty is expired in 2 months. While living on a fixed income as a senior, that's a real concern for me.
There were no physical or economic damage, only the future worry.

I purchased all new whirlpool appliances through Lowes, for a kitchen remodel. I had the appliances delivered approx. 1 month after purchase, as I felt this is when we would be ready for install. It actually took 2 months for install. When we put the appliances into place we noticed the front of the stove had a metal strip at the bottom that was made wrong, and protruded. We took pictures and showed Lowes, who gave us the phone # for whirlpool to call.
We call and have never been treated so poorly. We were told that because we purchased the appliances more than 30 days ago we were stuck with them. The rep. said as long as the door opened it was not their problem. If we wanted them to come out and correct the problem we would have to pay. What really made me mad is that we would have to pay for the parts that whirlpool screwed up!
After 15 mins. of heated conversation with the rep. I asked for a number or place to write a complaint. She said there was no one higher up that her. Her word was final. You would think for good will, after I made this major purchase, they would fix what they should have made correct the first time. By doing this they could fix the problem with quality control. When I cut my hand on the corner of the stove, I should have returned it then. Footnote: Lowes has been great in helping to secure a door that is not made so poorly for us.

They shipped the part directly to me and gave me the option of installing it myself or having a service technician come out. I opted for the service tech, and watched him install it, very simple.
It now has popped off again, after warranty, and while they will provide me with a part, they won't ship it directly to me and insist that I pay a technician to install it. I suspect the cost of the part will be hidden in the tech's fees. Their customer service is horrible. We went to use the oven and it would not heat (just as I have read about in your column).
We called the store that supplied the appliances sorry, out of warranty the repairman came out, diagnosed the problem bad T.O.D. About 200.00 later, oven was fixed he said the oven got too hot, but the cleaning cycle time and temp. is pre-set so... we have been very hesitant to use the self-clean function. Well...after cleaning the oven only two times since Dec.'06, it did it again.
I called the store again, and asked if they have had any other calls about problems "why no, we have never heard of that'. The repairman came out, we showed him the old repair order and defective part.He checked the part. This is a 130 Degree(C) switch, they (Kitchen Aid) have had so many problems that they are now making the ovens with a 30 degree (C) higher tempurature T.O.D.switch.
We have ordered a bunch of the new switches, but they have been back-ordered for 3 months, I called Wirlpool/Kitchen-Aid,Costumer Service and they assured me that they have no record of any problems what-so-ever. The plastic is cracking at two different places on the door and not because of misues on my part. I am the only one that uses it. The plastic is defective from type of plastic used or from how the door was assembled. Whirlpool needs to investigate this defect.
I am not using any longer because there was evidence of leakage coming from these cracks. I called and spoke to a rep months ago and mentioned my concern with microwave rays seeping and expected Whirlpool to investigate. On Mother's Day, 2008, my son gave me a new Accubake Whirlpool Electric Self Cleaning Range Model RF362LXTT3. Right away, I noticed that the dual burners were much slower than my old 20 year old stove. I timed the speed of the burners using exact parameters for each test. Boiling two quarters of water on the left burner took 27 minutes and boiling two quarts of water on the right burner took 16 minutes. I called Whirlpool and they sent out a repairman. The repairman replaced the elements, and much to my chagrin, the right burner now took 30 minutes to boil 2 quarts of water, but the left burner was improved to 19 minutes.
I called the service rep and he came out again and replaced the right burner again. Still couldn't get it back to the original 16 minutes, but did improve it to 21 minutes. Not really acceptable, but I am getting tired of service calls, so I have settled for the time. Then when I attempted to use the self clean feature on very mild soil the oven did not heat hot enough to burn the soil to a white ash. It just simply baked the soil onto the interior of the oven and no amount of additional cleaning will get the soil off. Whirlpool said i should have personally cleaned the oven before I used the self cleaning feature. In all the years of having self cleaning ovens, I have never had to manually clean an oven before I used the self cleaning feature.
Then this past week end I attempted to bake cupcakes for a birthday party. I used two identical pans, filled with the same batter, and baked on the same oven rack. The cupcakes on the left of the rack did not rise. The cupcakes on the right of the rack rose beautifully. Called Whirlpool again. By now I am very agitated and want my range replaced. Of course, Whirlpool does not replace ovens, they only repair. So they send the service rep out again. He does a test on the temperature of the oven and finds that it continually shuts on and off It was set at 350, turned off at 358, turned on at 310, turned off at 390 turned on at 331, turned off at 399 turned on at 342. The rep asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wanted a new range, so he called Whirlpool and recommended that they replace the range. They told him to have me call Customer Service. When I did, I was again told that they do not replace ranges.
So tomorrow, the service rep comes again. I have now had a total of seven service calls, and tomorrow will make number 8. Each service call requires me to take off work, and wait four hours for the rep to arrive and then whatever time it takes for him to diagnose and/or attempt to fix the problem. I agree with everyone else on this site that I will never purchase anything Whirlpool, Maytag or Kenmore (since they are all part of the same company) again.
The service that Whirlpool offers after the sale is lacking and it cannot be economically feasible for Whirlpool to continue to send out reps to repair defective products so many times. My $800 range has surely by this time cost them more in service calls and parts than the original purchase price. I simply want a new range. Is there a lemon law on appliances? If not, there really should be.

They came over yesterday, it will cost about $300.00 to fix, the good news is that I should not use the self cleaning function, use easy off instead, is the recommendation of the guy that was here.
I'm in my 60's the idea of having a self cleaning oven is that i don't have to get on my bad knees to do it. Again while under warranty, the electronic touch pad control quit functioning. Again a warranty repair call indicated it was a faulty part and it was replaced.
Currently the range is not longer working (06/12/08) because my repairman states the control panel is not functioning again. The repairman also states that the warranty repairman was rough and broke one end piece re-installing the panel and did not apply adhesive correctly to the back of the laminated touch pad. The current repair will cost $369. for a new panel and plastic end piece and a 90 day warranty. Still NO Working oven and I may be left having to pay someone to install part because the government is moving me (military) and my family will be left without a working oven.

A technician told me a 3rd safety device needs to be put in today's ovens. Something to do with electrical current and the new way ovens are made.
Also appliance manufacturers used to make their own parts. Now, the parts for many different companies are made by ONE manufacture.

We bought a Whirlpool Accubake self-cleaning oven in September 2003. It looks good but the Accubake is an oxymoron. Shortly after our oven was installed we were cooking Christmas dinner and the oven just quit. Once it cooled down we were able to re-start it. Then, quit. The repairman replaced the sensor.
Roughly 12 months later we found the oven temp was far from Accubake accurate. It was not heating to temp indicated on control panel, and when it finally reached the correct temp it then exceeded it. Surprise - need a new control panel! We were just outside the warranty period and the Whirlpool Customer Service rep was very pleasant, but no financial remedy was offered.
We have chosen to use an oven temp thermostat for the last 4 years and now the broiler doesn't work. I don't think it is too much to ask for a product to work for a reasonable amount of time (the operative word being reasonable).

We had our Whirlpool Gold oven control panel replaced within the one year warranty period. It took a total two ridiculous weeks to get a hold of Whirlpool and get the panel installed. Six months later, the exact same problem has occurred and we cannot use the oven. Whirhpool has said there is only a 90 day guarantee on parts and labor even though the industry standard is one year on the replaced part. Since talking to a repair man we have learned this is a common problem and many people have to replace the control panel multiple times!
We can't afford to spend upwards of $300 every six months on a control panel for this oven. We also didn't plan on working meal plans around a broken oven. They should honor their products, and fix the problem!

I purchased an over the range microwave made by Whirlpool in July of 2007 which acted up a bit when it was first installed (the touch screen wouldn't respond when I touched it) but after about 24-48 hours it worked. Since then the screen worked on-again off-again until October (nearly 4 months ago) when I called for a repair. Since then, whirlpool has sent out two different repair companies. I have stayed home from work, and therefore lost money, 9 or 10 times for repair men to come to my house. Whirlpool refuses to replace my microwave and insists that I keep allowing the repair companies to attempt to repair my appliance until they can confirm that it is not repairable.
The problem here is that Whirlpool keeps shipping the repair companies broken parts, and the repair companies don't check their parts (even though I have requested them to) until they arrive at my house and dismantle my microwave. I am stuck in a catch 22. If the repair company fixes my microwave then that's fine, but I cannot get a new microwave unless they say that mine is unrepairable. The repair company cannot say that my microwave is not repairable until they replace the part that they think is broken. They cannot replace the broken part unless whirlpool sends it to them in one piece.
The first repair company I dealt with had poor customer service on the telephone, and instead of contacting whirlpool to request proper packaging on their parts, they made me do it. When I contacted Whirlpool, they told me that they don't ship parts to repair companies, and recommended a different company as the solution. I have since learned that Whirlpool does ship parts for repairs, as the supervisor at whirlpool today offered to do exactly what I requested two months ago: make sure the parts are packaged properly so that they arrive safely. If they had done that at the time I requested, I would have been able to go to work 5 more days, and would possibly have had a functioning microwave before Thanksgiving. They will not tell me how many times they will ship a broken part or how long I have to wait before they put customer service first and give me an operating appliance. They have offered to extend the warranty for 6 more months, which seems only fair sine the microwave had been out of service for 4 months and I do not see a light at the end of the tunnel yet.
I have lost at least $1500 that I would have earned had I been able to work the 9 days that I missed.

I purchased a Whirlpool Double Oven Model #RBD275PRT00 and had it installed in November 2007. I immediately noticed that the lower oven door exterior got very hot when in use. I had a service company test the surface tempature of the door and exterior cabinet. The door got up to 185 degrees and the cabinet got up to 160 degrees. I contacted Whirlpool, who sent this problem to their engineering department. I never received an answer from engineering regarding what was causing this problem. We then attempted another service call to try to remedy this problem. Upon checking if the repair had solved my problem, which it didn't, my daughter was accidently burned on this door. I immediately called Whirlpool and talked with their safety department. A new unit was sent to me. It, however, has the same exact problem. The lower oven door still gets hot enough to burn someone. When I called Whirlpool to report a continued problem, they basically told me too bad, as far as they were concerned it was fixed. This, even though the new unit had the same problem as the first. They will not refund my $1200.00. I am so afraid someone is going to be seriously burned.
I am now out $1200.00 for the cost of the oven, plus any money that I will spend on a replacement. Not to mention the danger to my famiy. This is a serious hazard.

By march of 2007 (5 months) I noticed the enamel was peeling off the cook top. We had Sears come out and replace it and then again in July the same thing happened and in the same spot. They replaced cooktop number 2 in late August and within 90 days cooktop number 3 is doing the same thing. I have contacted WHIRLPOOL and they said they will give me 15 percent off on the parts. Why would I want another part when the same thing will most likely happen again? Four cooktops in 15 months is unacceptable. Whirlpool has said that is their BEST offer.
Every time we replace the cooktop my husband has had to pull this bad range out of the space in the counter. I also happened to buy a front load washer (whirlpool) in Nov 06 and Dec 07 the washer quit mid cycle with the door locked. The door lock needed to be replaced, a $200 repair, but after much persistence, Sears paid the bill. I believe there is a defect in the door locking mechanisms of these appliances. The interior light on my over-range microwave went out a few days ago. I looked inside the cabinet to find no access panel or light lens I could remove to install a new bulb. I went online to find instructions, none seem to be available for microwaves due to stored energy possibly causing electrocution to the unsavvy DIYer. I did call Whirlpool Corp. and spoke to 4 persons, explaining to each my situation and each referred me to the next person. The last person I spoke with was Brenda. She told me this unit would need to be serviced by an appliance repair technician, it is not serviceable by the customer. I called a service company to find out the charge for replacing a light bulb would be $95.00 per hour (not sure how long it may take) plus the service call plus parts. It seems the design and engineering are faulty to require this kind of excess. If I were to follow the same logic, why is it possible for me to remove/install the light lens on the underside in order to replace dead bulbs as I have done in the past? There are wires and sharp edges that can surely cut your fingers, why allow this? I haven't spoken or written to any others about this situation yet. I will try to give Whirlpool Corp. an opportunity to consider my dismay. If it comes down to replacing the microwave for such a minor issue, I may replace the dishwasher (Whirlpool) with a brand other than any of Whirlpools products and it's many brand names.

1. Plastic cracking/splitting at various spots for no reason
2. Stainless paint rubbed off during normal cleaning, revealing white plastic beneath
3. Handle broke off when opening earlier this year. It costs $69 to replace (part only). The new one just broke off again. I hope Gorilla Glue works.
4. Lightbulbs go out regularly and are difficult to replace.
Here is my issue: I'm a 55-year-old woman who lives alone. My grandchildren live in California, and therefore, cannot cause damage to my stuff. I contacted Whirlpool 11/30/2007 in reference to Side by side Refrigerator Model# GD5SHALQ02 not working. Whirlpool scheduled an appointment with Appliance Care Inc. because they do their warranty work. The Repair Tech came 4 Dec 2007 and stated to my wife that this is an easy fix. My wife ask the Repair person if they could wait for me that I was on the way home and would be their in about 10 minutes. I had the proper tool to clean up the burned pin on the compressor. Because the compressor was still under warranty I did not want to attempt to repair it (Void Warranty). The repair tech looked at the fridge, went to his truck and got some tools, and cut off the burned pin coming out of the compressor. The pin was 3/8 of an inch long. When he cut the pin off there was less than 3/16 of an inch left. He replaced the start relay with the old capacitor that was burned on one side. The fridge started working. He told the wife it would cool down in 24 hours. She once again asked if he would wait until I spoke with him; once again he declined. I arrived home in time to see his truck leaving.
When I went into the house you could smell the relay burning, and the fridge was cutting on and off. When I looked at the compressor you could see the arcing between the start relay and compressor. After removing the start relay which already showed signs of burning, I saw that he had cut the pin off. He never put the ground back on the compressor or the clip that holds the start relay to the compressor. By cutting off the pin so short he created a high resistance connection that could have caused a fire.
Around 11 a.m. I called Appliance Care, Inc. and requested to speak to the owner. I informed them what the repair person had done. They told me the owner wound call me right back. About 5PM I called back and was told the same thing. Finally the wife of the owner called and wanted to know if the fridge was working. Once again I informed her to what the repair person had done. She said they would order a new compressor. I am still waiting for them to call about the compressor. I believe the compressor could have been repaired if a competent repair person had been sent. The action he took damaged the compressor beyond repair. If I don`t hear from Appliance Care by Friday (12/21/07) (16 days), I will call Whirpool to report this damage caused by their Tech.
I have not had a fridge since 4 Dec 2007. I don`t know the dollar figure for lost food. I would have been happy if the fridge had been fixed. I feel this company provides very unprofessional repair service. Look Out.

This is a (hidden) factory defect due to errors made while painting during the manufacturing process. The plastic cover for the crushed/cubed selector switch has also failed. This is not acceptable I tell them, what about honoring the Whirlpool Gold name? We are sorry, we can do nothing about it. Even their own representative tells me, When you fix this, never use the self cleaning operation. Remove the door and manually clean everything. So, this is how an $1,100 oven is to operate? Control panel caught fire on my Estate range. Four months out of warranty. THis happened in the middle of the night . The fire blackened the corian full high back splash behind the range. Thank God that it was there.
Range is useless. My concern is for others who may next if this is not a isolted problem. They want me to pay for the labor to fix the range. I don't want it in my home.
