I purchased range #WFE361LVSO on 10/1/09. It did not keep the correct oven temperature. I ordered service call. They came out on 10/31 and had to order parts. The parts finally came on Nov 10. Service was supposed to be here between 8-12. They showed up at 6 p.m. (I took a day off for nothing). They replaced the temperature sensor and computer panel. This seemed to work for a little while. On December 20th, the problem reared its ugly head again. I called Whirlpool (Nicole). She agreed that the unit should be replaced.

I didn't hear from anyone within 24 hours so I called again - the response was "Nicole didn't put that in the notes". It was a complete run-around 3 days before Christmas. They finally informed me that I'd get my new stove in 7-10 business days. That's just perfect as I was having 20 people to my house for Christmas dinner - the new stove would be here by New Year's! In a desperate attempt, I called the manager at Lowe's (where I purchased the unit) in Dayville, CT in the hopes that maybe he could intervene on my behalf w/ Whirlpool. He told me to get a return authorization number from them and he'd deliver a new unit that afternoon! Great, I thought.

I called Whirlpool back. Their response was that it was IMPOSSIBLE to give me an RA number. I called Lowe's back - he called them and got the same response. Manager at Lowe's was so disgusted with them that he had a new unit delivered to me the next day. New unit wasn't much better than the first. However, I made it through Christmas dinner even though I had to stand in front of the stove the whole time the meals were in the oven so the temperature didn't go up to 500 degrees (I had to keep opening the door to cool it off).

Lowe's called the day after Christmas to make sure everything was okay - they delivered yet another new range on 12/27. Range #3 was okay for a week - same problem. You can set the temp on 350 deg; top temp in oven is anywhere between 250 deg and 325 deg and then it will suddenly rise to 400 deg. I called Whirlpool again - Reena, the supervisor, told me the temp needed to be "re-calibrated" and told me to look at the manual. I argued that the temperature swing was too erratic - she ordered yet another service call (great, another day off). She refused to allow me to talk w/ HER supervisor. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!

I bought a Whirlpool electric double wall oven. One of the reasons I bought it was that both ovens had a self-cleaning cycle. Every single time I use the self-cleaning cycle, something breaks. If I clean the top oven, the heat would melt the circuitry in the control panel on top of the oven and render it inoperable. I would have to have a service call. So, I stopped running the self-clean and did it the old-fashioned way. The last service tech we had said that the oven should never be self-cleaned as the heat always caused problems. I wrote to Whirlpool several times (to the attention of the President by name) and got no response. The last straw was this week when I ran the self-clean on the bottom oven. I thought that the distance between the bottom oven and control panel would save the control panel and it did. However, it ruined the heating element and now that oven will not heat up. A service tech told us that it would be expensive and be a two-person job as the oven would have to be pulled out of the wall to be repaired. We have decided to replace the unit but I wanted others to know that this product has bad design and that Whirlpool has no interest in standing behind its products. We will be looking at GE, Bosch or Electrolux.

I purchased a standalone Whirlpool Oven 5 years ago. Every time I use the self cleaner on the oven - it blows a $35.00 fuse. I asked a reputable appliance repairman in our area and he knew what I was talking about. He said it was a bad design. The fuse in question (that runs the oven) is too close to the wall of the oven and when the self-cleaning mode is on...it gets too hot and blows the fuse. He suggested I contact the Whirlpool. They said, “Sorry...no recalls...out of warranty...good luck!” I can't afford a $35.00 fuse every time I clean the oven. Come on Whirlpool...accept the bad design and fix our ovens!!!!!

I just want to report that whoever designed the grates for the Whirlpool gas cooktops never used one in their life. The sauce pans and the pots rock from side to side because the grates are not flat. They are higher right over the center of the burner. I called and the tech arrived the next day. He could not believe it and we agreed that this was not safe for hot liquids in pots or pans. He called it in and they sent me another set of grates. They were the very same way. A few days later, we were visiting some friends who just built a new home and used the top line gas cooktop by Whirlpool. Guess what? The grates were not level and had the same problem as mine. Whirlpool is not interested in hearing anymore about it. I just wanted to let people know, if you are thinking about buying a Whirlpool gas cooktop, take your pots and pans to the store with you to make sure they sit level and flat on the one you are buying.

I cleaned by brand new Whirlpool oven for the first time and the glass door became permanently stained with grease. This is a defect in this model #gfe461lvs0. Whirlpool said that this does occur and because it is cosmetic and not a functional defect they would not take it back. They sent someone to replace the glass. They told me to use a store product rather than use the self cleaning device to prevent this from occurring again. This is crazy. They are also sending me $75 and extending the warranty for a year BUT ONLY ON A FUNCTIONING DEFECT, NOT ON THIS PROBLEM OF THE DOOR BECOMING FILTHY PERMANENTLY. Consequence: A brand new oven that looks 15 years old and dirty.

Our Whirlpool gas range keeps turning itself on without a person realizing that it has happened. The knobs are on the front of the unit and if your body passes it by, it can turn on the gas without knowing. We came home from being out the other day and smelt gas in the house. It was caused from the Whirlpool Gold Gas Range leaking gas after one of the knobs had been accidentally brushed past it. Knobs should either be put on top of the range or a safety device designed to prevent this accident from happening.Luckily, we got the gas turned off in time to avoid a disaster.

My problem is that every time that I use my stove, the knobs in front of the stove move when I'm not even aware. When I start to smell gas is when I noticed that I must have gotten too close to the knobs and turn them on with my body. If I were to ever design a stove, I would put the knobs right on top of the stove itself and nobody can get hurt this way. Even a child is able to turn on the stove. This is very dangerous. I am sure you had other customers complaining about this. If not, then I think it's a good idea to have a different design in the future for the safety of your customers. It is very annoying every time this happens to me or someone else in my family.

My experience tonight with my Whirlpool gas range prompted me to write to tell you that I think the Whirlpool makes the worst appliances. I built a new home 3 years ago and had a Whirlpool gas range and dishwasher. Right from the beginning, my stove didn't work right - the ignitor for the oven was defective and wouldn't turn on when I was ready to bake or cook and had to be replaced by a local firm. The part he got from Whirlpool did not fix the problem. He got another part - still not resolved. Finally after many phone calls and complaints to Whirlpool, they finally came and fixed it again about 6 months ago. All was ok until tonight when I was trying to bake Christmas cookies. The oven wouldn't go on again! Apparently, the part they replaced has bitten the dust. Whirlpool has all my complaints and service calls. I dislike their customer service so much; I don't even want to call them again.

I made a long story short, but I believe I got a "lemon" stove and it should have been replaced. I see others have had no better luck with their appliances. With such an unreliable stove, I will probably go out and buy another brand and hope this one goes in the junk heap where it belongs. My dishwasher is just ok - had to have that repaired once also. 3-year-old appliances should not be this troublesome, unless they are so poorly made.

    Hello,
My wife and I had a new home built back in Dec of 2009. During the build we installed Whirlpool products throughout the house. We have loved our appliances until a couple days ago. We have an electric range, model; WFE381LVS which has a Schott Ceramic Cooktop. While cooking on the range we placed the lid of a pan which was cooking some chili beans on the top of the range. Upon the lids contact to the range it created such a vacuum, we could not lift it off. The vacuum the hot lid created was so intense it broke the ceramic top. We then found out that this is not covered under warranty. A replacement top ranges from $500.00 - $700.00 depending on who you call. We have opted to just replace the range since a replacement is almost as much as the top. This type of Failure to the range tops should be common knowledge to your Consumers. We are thinking of seeking legal guidance for this situation. I have video of what happens to the top in this case. No one I have spoken to has ever heard of this problem, and is telling me to contact Whirlpool about it. It could be very dangerous and cause major bodily injury if not death by electrocution. This type of hazard is not noted in the owner’s manual. A warning of Vacuum related damage should be mentioned and noted. (Some people like me and my wife do not think of vacuum breaking the glass). No Warning about lids causing such a vacuum that it literally pops and breaks the Ceramic tops is mentioned. Now that we have experienced this situation first hand. We will not repeat it. Whirlpool could have some kind of lawsuit on thier hands. We are lucky to just be out $900.00 after delivery and tax. We could have lost one or both of our eyes from shattering glass or even a life due to electrocution. Please feel free to contact me by either Email or Phone Thank you Robert and Lisa Bullis

I bought brand new free standing whirlpool range in early 2008. I had purchased a town home and was worried about the old range in the home, so I replaced with a whirlpool I bought through the lowe's store here in town. I don't use the oven a whole lot seldom use the broiler, never use the self clean function because I here it's hard on the elements. I heated my oven 2 weeks ago and was standing in my kitchen on the phone when a piece of the element shot fire out from it and blew a hole in the element. I bought a new element and had a friend install it, when we turned it on to check it the element wouldn't heat past 40 volts. Broiler worked oven not, contacted a service guy because I didn't purchase the extended warranty. The service call and the element cost around $130.00, can't get refund on the element or service call. In short the guy told me it blew the control panel and would be cheaper to replace the range. I know have spent over $1000 on 2 ranges in less than 2.5 years, and out $130.00 on non refundable service and parts. I hand to go back to lowe's and they were great they knocked $100 off the price since I had purchased the items there almost 2 years ago. It's ashame we can't depend on an appliance to last longer than 2 years and are forced to buy warranties just in case it blows a panel. The digital age has it's draw backs. The Whirlpool webstie stated they were sorry about the problem I had with the stove and I was a valued customer. Wow, that's standing behind your product, huh!

I just bought a Whirlpool stove in July of this year. When making Thanksgiving dinner, I put a 20 pound turkey in the oven. This amount of weight was too much for the oven rack and the rack bowed, causing the turkey and rack to fall to bottom of oven. I tried to grab the turkey and boiling liquid splashed out of the pan and onto my arm. I have been making turkeys of this size for years and never has an oven rack not supported it or pulled out of the side tracks like that. I believe you should look into the quality of racks in your new stoves. I have a burn on my arm that could have resulted in something much worst had the whole pan turned over. The burn on my wrist is about 4 inches round.

I called Whirlpool to ask about an issue with my gas range. When I called, I explained that I put my over on self clean and part way through the self clean cycle, the front panel on the unit went dead and the door was locked, and could not be unlocked. I asked if they had any clue what was wrong and they advised that they would have to send someone out to take a look at it. They advised that someone would be out to take a look in 5 days (don’t have exact dates written down). That morning I called the company that they said would be coming out to see if they could advise of a time in which they would be coming. The company informed me that they had no techs available and had sent the ticket back to Whirlpool because of this. So I called Whirlpool, they said oh yeah, they did send the ticket back to us, we will need to rebook. I had taken a DAY OFF and was sitting at home for no reason, as the repair time that I was quoted was cancelled, with no call back from Whirlpool. The soonest appointment they could get me was over a week away. So now I am 2 weeks without my oven and a day off work for no reason. So I take another day off work for the new appointment, the tech comes, takes his shoes off, walks over the range, tries to open the door, looks at the panel and says “oh yeah, I know exactly what is wrong” walks back to the door advises that he needs to order a part and will re-book an appointment when it arrives. So he was in my house, for maybe 3 minutes total, good thing I took the whole day off. I wait a week, no call (now 3 week without my oven and 2 days off work) and finally I call Whirlpool back and they advise that the tech will call me when the part arrives. I asked if I could have his number so that I could call him myself and they will not give me his number, nor will they call him to get a status. At this point I am very frustrated and angry, talk to a manager and nothing they can do…wow, so shocking that a manager can’t do anything.
So I called a local appliance place, explained the problem to them, they advise me “oh yeah, this is a very common issue for all Kitchen Aid ranges, we have at least 6 parts on stock at all times” . Now I am really angry, if the local appliance dealer knows this is a common problem, how can Whirlpool not??? So I decided to look online and found this website! 45 pages, not 45 complaints, but 45 PAGES of complaints about this issue, how can the repair center NOT know what is going on, and how can they as a company not fix this? They are gouging clients and need to be stopped! I was sent a bill for almost $90 for a 3 minute repair visit that didn't even fix my problem. DO NOT call their repair centre...call your local appliance place and talk to the parts department, I guarantee they know what the issue is...and can fix it WAY cheaper and quicker. I got mine fixed for $60. Please tell everyone you know about this issue so that they are forced to fix it, or people will simply stop buying these products!

Have a Whirlpool built-in electric oven. Have replaced the oven sensor 3 times. The sensor in the oven evidently gets overheated and burns out when you use the self-cleaning mode. I will not purchase another Whirlpool appliance EVER AGAIN. At $40 per fix, it has become quite costly to maintain. From reading the reports on just this website, there should have been a recall on this product. Where is the CPSC on this matter? The key is not to use the self-cleaning mode (of course, it took us $120 to figure this one out). Why have a self-cleaning oven if you can't use it?

I purchased a new electric range directly through Whirlpool by telephone. It was delivered on October 13 but because I needed an electrician it was not installed until Friday the 16th.
I made a pot of soup that afternoon and did not use it again until Sunday afternoon. I turned on the oven for the first time to preheat for pizza rolls and had read in the owners manual to expect a bit of smoke and foul smell. When the beeper sounded for up to temperature I opened the door and a bit of smoke and a funny odor came out but I was not concerned. As the pizza rolls heated the smell was getting quite obnoxious so I opened the oven after they had been in for 9 minutes. Black smoke rolled out and the fumes choked me. I grabbed the pizza rolls and closed the door, then turned it off. As I grabbed the pizza rolls I noticed some type of bubbling liquid on the bottom of the oven. So after the stove began to cool down and I had some of the fumes out by using my attic fan I opened the door and inspected the oven. There was dripping stuff that looked like hot plastic or silicone sealant it was still wet on the oven bottom and beginning to turn white in the areas of the oven it was cooler on. After a complete cool down I could see a cloudy plastic like substance down the back, both side walls and the front door. It was in globs on the oven racks. I called Whirlpool immediately that day (Sunday afternoon) and was told a service man would arrive Tuesday afternoon. I explained that a service man could not fix this that they would have to replace this defective stove. He insisted to let a technician look at it The service man from whirlpool arrived late Tuesday afternoon and he agreed that the stove should be replaced but he said “we’ll see what they say” and got on the phone to a lady in a whirlpool office. He explained to her about the plastic and she put him on hold. The Tech switched to speaker phone while on hold so I heard her when she came back came back to say “tell the customer to run the self clean and burn out the residue” When I heard her I said “I don’t want to burn that off in my home I want another stove” The tech relayed what I said, the lady then said we are not send another stove tell her to run the self clean. I again said “No! Just take it back, I want a refund” He took her off speaker phone, told her what I said and after a minute he hung up. He again said what she told him to say, that I should run the self clean, and I again said I did not want to but since I had no choice I would try. I turned it on while the technician watched. He finished his computer “paperwork” He said my oven racks were not usable due to the amount of plastic on them so he ordered two new racks for the oven As the fumes were filling my house he gave men the number he had called and said that if this did not fix it or if there was anything wrong to “keep after them and make them give you another stove” and he left The smell in my home became unbearable, I had both doors open and attic fan running and it was really bad. I called local fire dept and man said the fumes were highly toxic for my disabled husband and I so I called whirlpool again. This is Tuesday evening, after dark. I spoke with a couple of people, each time explaining what was happening and being put on hold, the whole time I am at my back door with air blowing in because I cant stay in the house. (we are in the Midwest, it was chilly) Finally I get a supervisor who tells me to shut the stove down at the breaker immediately. I did. He then gave me over to someone else in safety dept who was concerned about if we were sick and did we go to hospital either time we smelled the fumes. I kept telling her “no, we had bad headaches and I have another one now, I want a new stove or my money back” but she said she had no control over that, someone will call me tomorrow. Wednesday… no one called. Thursday I called the number the technician gave me to plead for help. I was transferred and put on hold so many times… I ended up with the same person (Babs) that the technician had talked with. She said they would not replace the stove. She said the techs report says if I use the self clean that will fix the stove. I tried to explain about what else happened but she kept cutting me off and putting me on hold for long periods of time then come back and state “we are not going to replace the stove” I said but mam please let me finish and she got very snotty and said “what ?” and I tried to explain that a supervisor in her company had told me to shut the stove off and she screamed at me “and our technician told you to run the self clean to fix it” I tired again “but mam” and she again yelled at me, I said that the super told me to shut it down AFTER the tech was here. She put me on hold again and when she came back she said No again. I tried again pleading with her. I paid cash for this stove, it was the first time it was used, it is obviously a manufacturing defect of some sort and I now have a brand new stove that I was told by your supervisor to shut down sitting in my kitchen that I can not use. What am I supposed to do. She put me on hold Came back again and transferred me to a man named Jim, supervisor in safety dept and I had to explain it all again. This makes the 7 or 8th time and I was told by the person who connected me to Babs that all the information was already in the file but they made me say it all over again and by this time I was shaking and on the verge of tears. Jim said “the stove works so we are not going to replace it” I again went through the whole talk about how I now have a brand new stove they (whirlpool) has told me to shut down at the power source and not use because of the toxic fumes what am I supposed to do. With a smirk he said I could turn it over to my homeowners insurance!

After about 5 min. of this it finally showed an msg. of EO in red, and -F2- in blue and locked itself. I called Whirlpool customer svc. and was told to shut the oven off at the breaker to reset it. I did so and the oven clock came back as normal, however, after 5 min. the error msg. came back. Ofcourse my oven was no longer covered under warranty, so I was transferred to the svc. repair for a svc. call, I was informed it would cost $129.00 just to come out and look at the oven. When I got a call from the Tech with A&E Factory Svc. He informed me that he'd seen this error before and that the part needing replacing was the panel board that would cost about 400.00 to replace. He said he didn't want to come out and charge me the service call fee only to tell me I'd be out another 400.00. He also said I could probably find a new oven for the cost it would take to fix this one. How long are ovens supposed to last? I don't remember my mom ever replacing our oven as a kid growing up. Our 4.5 year old Jenn-Air range broke down. Nothing special, the display panel seemed to be unable to withstand the high temperatures the oven produced and the glue became unstuck. The range started beeping and we called the service company (A&E Service) subcontracted by Whirlpool to service it.
They were unable to fix it and told us that the part needed to be replaced. It was still covered under warranty, but Whirlpool was unable to supply us with the required part. It took them over 10 days and a few follow up calls by my wife until they did finally admit that they were not able to get the part. I had already been charged for the part $400.27. So, contractually obligated to fix the broken range but unable to do so my wife began a negotiation process with Whirlpool which resulted in being without a stove for 6 weeks, paying for a new stove and ended in a delayed delivery of a range we did not order. We left home on 8/26/2009 and came home to our home that had a fire while we were gone. The stove Whirlpool® (RF264LXSB) 30" 4.8-Cu. Ft is the culprit as I had just received it 5 days prior and no matter what setting the stove remained on high. There was also a time that it was turned off and came back on. Two days after this fire occured I found out there was a recall of 200,000 whirlpool and kenmore stoves for the exact things this stove did prior to the fire. It stands to reason that there may have been faulty materials or wiring in this model as well. AllState has pulled a lot of stuff on us that is so wrong. And we have no one to help us get to a point of knowing what is going on and how long we have to go through their abuse and deceptive manipulative liars who are adjustors. Who has managed to run up our claim and is going to not pay us for everything we have lost. The adjustor has had a company come in and remove everything with out completing an actual inventory. The adjustor instructed them not to do an inventory instead they were to group items. The adjustor for temporary accomadations wants us to accept a monthly cash option of $1800.00 to rent a place for 4 adults and a 5 year old as well as to include the rent of furniture and everything we will need. But she was willing to pay $2500.00 a month to rent a house that was furnished. The $1800.00 will not rent anything month to month unless it is a flop house in a bad neighborhood and will not begin to even touch the rental of all the furniture we will need. I don't know what to do. This is insanity and we are helpless, hopeless, and I am ready to give up. So if anyone can help we greatly need it. We do not know our rights. The adjustor for our contents has put us in a bad predicament because she told the company she forced us to accept to do removal of our propert that not to worry about our not having enough coverage, "THEY HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY DON'T WORRY". I did not think that is right considering it made them take every little item including empty boxes and wrap each thing in 4 - 5 pieces of paper. They milked the packing and removal for 19 - 21 days at the expense of our contents and basically it should have been a total loss.

The oven just came off warranty in july 09 and the 2nd week of August the touch pad failed rendering the oven useless.I had a service rep check it out and order the part sept 06,09. Whirlpool agreed to cover the repair. I was then informed by the service rep that whirlpool had to backorder the pad as they didn't have any - it would take 4 weeks. I phoned whirlpool at least 3 times to get them moving and asking when it would be fixed. They agreed to give me a 6 mth extended warranty on this lemon. The service rep came today to install the new pad - guess what? whirlpool sent the wrong pad- apparently they don't make the old one anymore ( I wonder why!) their latest ploy is to blame the service rep, their parts dept and probably anyone else they can think of. It was suggested to me by an earlier Whirlpool representative that I should have bought an extended warranty - excuse me - I thought I was buying a quality north american product not something that had the lifespan of a russian built car.I will never buy anything from whirlpool or any of its other brand names - guess it will be european or asian quality products.

I was canning tomatoes in glass jars in a large pot on a Whirlpool gas range top and had not even reached 140 degrees fahrenheit when the range base glass exploded throwing glass pieces all over the kitchen. Upon inspection it became obvious that the heat reflected back from the underside of the pot caused the tempered glass plate that houses the burners and control knobs to explode. The house which we just bought 1-1/2 years offered an upgrade to this range top for $665. Looking back on the selection I think this was a dad selection.
Whirlpool knows this is a problem because in reading the instructions there is a statement regarding canning that instructs the user to move the pot to a different burner after each batch. That's obviously to spread the heat around. I never got to the end of the first batch. My guess is I'm going to have to fight this one since the warranty is stated as 1 year limited.

Then after a few days of not using the stove it began to work again. Then, in July 2009 the same problem began. Periodically, the oven heats up but fails to stay hot. I had a repair man come to fix it but, of course, it worked just fine while he was here and he could not properly diagnose the problem while it was working. He said if does one thing it is the sensor, if it does something else it is control panel. At any rate, I have had to call him again because now it will not stay hot and the broiler fails to light. I am very upset as this was supposed to be a quality product. It has broken twice in three years.

When I called Whirlpool for service I was told it ould be days before they could come out. That would have been fine if it were my home but I always try to keep my tennants happy so I asked if it could be sooner. They agreed and the next day after the tennant waiting all morning the tech from A@E called to say he was coming to check my refrigerator. I exclaimed it was a range that had cought on fire and I just wanted someone to confirm it with Whirlpool. He insiste we would need a "rang tech" to come put and he must call the office to report that. I believe 2 days passed and the range tech went out to check the damages and called me to say the rnge will not be under warranty because it was a grease fire. My husband and I happened to be next door checking on another property when the fire happened. We were present as well as the fire department and 2 neighbors. One of the neighbrs had in fact threw water on the range to extinguish the fire. (if it had been a grease fire it would have done much more damage) anyway, when I talded to the supervisor at Whirlpool she told me they would take the word of their tech over what I said. Because I believe Whirlpool should be accountable for the range, I sent pictures and the report from the fire department to Monica Teague. That has been over a week and she has not responded to me. So, I used just the top part of the oven until yesterday, when the top control panel issued error codes E6 (red LED) and F2 (blue LED). I checked the fuse in the master fuse box and the oven fuse is not thrown and the lights in the oven still work. I've been on the phone from 9:00 to 10:15 this morning (mainly on hold) trying to report the problem to Whirlpool.

The answering service was located in Texas and the woman was truly trying her best. I received the name of a "local" service, which is not local to me for I'm 18 miles from town in Tomales, CA. The earliest time for an appointment is next Wednesday. I'm retired from the computer industry and using my background in computer circuitry. In 2002, I purchased a Whirlpool Gold range from Sears Canada. After about 1 year of operation, the stove timer displayed an error message indicating the timer had failed - of course, the 1 year warranty was expired. The local dealer for Whirlpool replaced the timer at a cost of $300.00. A month later, the timer failed again and was replaced by the local dealer at no cost to me.

At this time, the local dealer suggested I contact Whirlpool to establish a record of the problem I was having and I did so. I should point out that even though the timer failed, the top portion of the stove continued to operate - only, the oven was unusable. A year later, the same error message indicated the timer had once again failed. On each of the failure occasions, I contacted Whirlpool to ask them if this was a recurring problem with this stove model and they denied there was.

At this point, I am fairly certain that there is a problem in the wiring with this stove that is causing the timer to fail but do not have the resources or the ability to find that problem. Once again, when I contacted Whirlpool, they stated there was nothing they could do. At this point, I feel that I must cut my losses and purchase a new stove of a different manufacturer. I would like to advise anyone else considering a Whirlpool product to avoid Whirlpool ranges.

Our Whirlpool gas range (model number SF114PXSQ0) began beeping and displaying an "F5" error code for no apparent reason. When the panel is reset, the error code returns within 5 minutes. This range is only 2 or 3 years old and it has been used less than 20 times. Behind the control panel, on the back side of the printed circuit board, I noticed that the connecting pins of the processor are covered with corrosion.

It seems to me that the corrosion on the board is the result of a manufacturing defect. Circuit board corrosion is caused by a combination of ionic contamination and moisture in the presence of an applied voltage. Under these conditions, an electrochemical process forms dendrites, which then short circuit components on the board. Although the presence of moisture and voltage is unavoidable in this application, ionic contamination of circuit boards is typically the result of improper cleaning and/or handling by its manufacturer.

The cost of a new control board is $177.85. However, I am very hesitant about buying (another) one of these boards for several reasons. First, appliance repair websites as well as ConsumerAffairs.com are flooded with complaints involving faulty control boards in Whirlpool appliances (according to Whirlpool, these are only "occasionally failures"). Second, many of the complainants state that they have had to replace their faulty control boards two or more times before eventually giving up and buying a new appliance. Lastly, Whirlpool denies that there are any problems with their products.

I purchased a Maytag gas range, approximately 6 years ago. A few months ago, I began smelling gas, whenever the high output burner was lit. I smelled it a few times, and I stopped using that burner. I used the other 3 burners. After a few months of not using that burner, I decided to try it. I lit it and tried to boil water on it. I went to the bathroom and back in about 5 minutes. My house reeks of gas. I immediately turned the stove off, and opened all the windows, to air out the house, and get rid of the smell. I tried another, and I saw flames coming from under the seal of one of the burners. I immediately turned that one off.

I phoned the gas company to check the unit out. They came and determined that the unit is not safe to use. I contacted Sears, and they said the unit is not under any warranty. I contacted the customer service for Maytag, which is Whirlpool. I contacted Eva through their 866 number. She arranged for a WinServ tech to check out the range. The tech came and inspected the unit. He determined three of the burners were burnt out and corroded. There were corroded holes in the burners, which were allowing gas to escape. I think, that an low quality parts were used in producing this, and could have been catastrophic.

Eva has agreed to repair the product. I waited for two weeks, which is the time frame set by WinServ. That's how long it will take for us to get the necessary parts. I called WinServ on the 10th day, to check on the schedule for the service. I was then informed, that Whirlpool is not going to pay for the repair. I was very upset to hear that a large company, who made a defective product, cannot repair the unit. I had to spend $1,500 for a new range. I could not cook for three weeks. I have contacted Whirlpool on two separate occasions, to discuss this issue with them with little assistance. As a matter of fact, the second time I spoke with their customer service rep, she just sat silently while on the phone after I finished speaking. I would have to say, "Hello" several times to make sure she was still there since she made no comment after speaking myself.

The only thing she did say was that she was sorry and that she understood. She offered me a 10% family discount to purchase another oven. I asked to speak with her manager and she said that she was sorry as well and that the oven shouldn't have broken after only 2 1/2 years, two different times but that there wasn't anything they could do and that just happened sometimes and she was sorry. She offered me the 10% discount as well, to purchase another stove and said that Whirlpool stood behind their products.

I asked her if I corrected the problem with the oven that I have now and it broke again in a short amount of time, were they going to stand behind their product? She said that she couldn't guarantee anything. Not really sure what to do but don't think I will be purchasing another Whirlpool appliance again. The company sent a repairman out and charged me $65 to tell me the keypad was stuck and would have the order another. It is now 9 months later and if I hadn't call them I wouldn't have heard a word and was only told that the part was backordered. Where do you go from here, to use my oven I have to cut the breaker off to get the oven to go out.

When I was cooking the scrambled eggs on February 28, 2009, I placed the lid of my pan on the glass cook top. When it was over the cook top, suddenly the cook top shattered and was totally destroyed. Shards of glass were everywhere. The cook top had no caution sign, saying, Do not to place any lid hot or cold,? to alert the costumer. It is a safety issue that needs attention before somebody gets injured. Fortunately when that happened, nobody was near enough to be harmed by the cook top. The safety team sent us a professional technician to check the stove, but he could not help at all. The amount it would have cost to have it replaced is more than it is to buy a whole new stove! The problem was not solved, and I now have to buy a new one. We own a whirlpool refrigerator and dishwasher, but now since this happened to my cook top; I am afraid to trust anymore of whirlpool's appliances.

The local dealer FRANKS APPLIANCE has been great and has done everything they can to rectify this situation. Whirlpool customer service has been worse than worthless, they have been rude. They have determined that the problem is the back of the door bracket. They have promised for months to send the correct part and continually send the wrong part. Now after months they say they are not sure that is the problem. This according to the repair dept is a recurrent problem, probably should have been recalled and has been redesigned in the models produced after mine.

I originally purchased a whirlpool gas range from a local retailer, in September of 2005....following this summer(2008), the oven failed completely, and it was diagnosed as a membrane switch, which was necessary to order..I was informed that this part was backordered, with no known date of delivery...after 3 weeks, i was informed that it would be mid February, before it would be available. I contacted Whirlpool as advised by the local service company, and was informed that this part was not in North America. They then informed me that Sears Canada, had the last remaining stock of this part. I placed a call with Sears, and was told they were sold out, with an expected refill date of March, but that was uncertain, as an order had not been placed. I called back to Whirpool, and was told that since the part was on backorder, and since the part was not in North America, there was nothing anyone could do.(at this point, we had been without an oven for 3 months). I asked that Whirlpool take steps to replace my range, with a new one. they finally agreed, and a prorated version was ordered. At this point in the process, I had not rec'd a call from them, to verify that payment information was in place, so I took the initiative and was told during my call, that they were not authorized to provide a confirmation number..(???)...When i called back during normal business hours, it was finally revealed that they still required payment information, so I kindly provided it(5 months)...at the beginning of February, more calls were placed, and the order was eventually finalized, and was told an expected date of delivery would be 7-10 business days.(I informed the lady on the phone, that we had been without an oven since late Aug/ early Sept. at which point she informed me that she would do what she could to expidite this order). I thought that we would see the range soon...todays date is February 24th, and I still have not seen my range. I have paid for it, but it seems Whirpool, does not have all the necessary information to track my stove...(What the heck??? multi national company, and they can't track an order??????). yes, it is still within the 7-10 business days since order was confirmed, but I am expected to jump through hoops, to get the range i have ALREADY PAID in full for. BAsed on the situation, I would expect Whirlpool to take any necessary steps, to 1), ensure they were aware at all times of the status of my order..2)the simple fact that one of their customers had no oven, should have encouraged them to take steps, without my prodding, to make sure I rec'd my range in a timely fashion, and i was kept in the loop regarding delivery status...they completely failed in this regard

I built a new house in 1999, upgraded my appliances 2 upgrades ( only offered Whirlpool), my double oven stopped working after everytime I used the self cleaning function. 3 times in the first year. Repairmen sent out, the replaced the computer module. It took a week to get repairman out another 2 to 5 weeks to get the parts and then it would go out again as soon as you tried to self-clean. After the repairmen said it was a lemon and the problem was never solved, when the warranty was up, they refused to repair or replace. My dishwasher's heating element quit working shortly after the one year warranty ran out again, no help in getting it fixed. The whirlpool microwave oven's seal on the door broke and again they would not replace. Whirlpools appliances are crap and the warranty's are basically useless. My previous appliances in my old home lasted over 15 years each with no problems. Obviously, Whirlpool is now making substandard products but charging the same amount. I will never buy another Whirlpool, Maytag or anything associated with this company's product lines.

What concerns me with Whirlpool is the lack of acknowledgement and the nonchalance attitude of the severe safety issue. In addition, I am dismayed at their lack of responsibility for the catastrophic failure of this piece of equipment. Their reply was, Well glass will explode if it has a fissure and becomes heated. There was no warning anywhere in the instruction manual regarding this possibility! They said they considered it an assumed risk and that I should have realized this could be an issue. Perhaps they finally decided to treat their customers better or perhaps a class action attorney looked at a $400 repair bill times a 1,000 defective parts and decided it could be worth his time. Another possibility is that if you call Whirlpools NO-SERVICE number 1-800-422-1230 enough times and demand to talk to management you finally get to J. Jenning. Thats what worked for me.

Two nights ago, our Whirlpool built-in oven was on the bake cycle and had been on for about 30 minutes when suddenly the top element came on and the oven would not shut off. We weren't even using the broiler element and we have never used the self-cleaning feature. My husband was able to get the food out, but when he closed the door, it locked and the element was still on and would not shut off. We had to go outside and down to the cellar to turn off the breaker to shut it off. By that time, the entire wall around the oven was hot to the touch and the odor of melted plastic was overwhelming. It took three hours for the oven and wall around it to cool off. We tried to turn it on again later but an error message came up and the top element came on, and the door was still locked.

We have service scheduled for Monday, but I don't trust the oven now and will probably try to come up with the money to buy a new one. The oven should have some kind of safety on it that would have automatically shut it off in this situation. The whole incident was very scary. I just cringe when I think if that had happened to one of my daughters and we weren't home. We would have had a fire on our hands. The oven is out of warranty, but is not more than eight years old or so. Since I can't get the oven door opened, I am unsure of the exact model number of the oven. The users' manual lists ten model numbers. RBS240PD is the first one listed. After reading all the other consumer complaints, we are not going to bother with having the oven serviced. We can't take the chance of that happening again. I am now without an oven and will have to purchase a new one. It will not be a Whirlpool.

The only suggestions from Whirlpool were to unplug the oven for a few minutes, then plug it back in and see if it works. Well, that didn't work. It makes me sick, considering the way the economy is. There is just not enough attention to quality for these companies. Just a profit margin. And they to add insult to injury, they are not held accountable for faulty products. It is just sad, as an individual, we would certianly be held responsible if it had been us to cause such havoc to another person. WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO? Concerned4Hermom,

I bought a Whirlpool gas oven/range (2004) model SF369 & had tech here 3 times for different igniting problems. Main problem is intermittent igniting; Gas just pours out & no flame. I've called Whirlpool at least 6 times. It is so discouraging preparing family dinners & the oven won't light! Another problem I had is the oven would just turn off in the middle of baking something. The newest issue is the oven won't relight after it is warm. The tech was just here in October 08. The tech contacted Whirlpool & they can't guarantee what is wrong but want me to buy replacement parts that cost $300 plus the cost of labor. Parts include Igniter, DSI Board & Clock assembly due to flickering. The oven is still fairly new. One would expect it to last at least 5 years. I've already spent over $200 in service calls on a new oven. There has been ongoing problems since I bought it. Whirlpool CS only offered 20% off a new oven or 50% off parts - non refundable even though they can't guarantee the problem. I recently sent a letter to the CEO requesting replacement oven or replacement parts free of charge & labor. I am scared to use the oven, gas fumes pour out!

Self-cleaning is automatically set at 3 hrs. 30 min., but can be lowered to 2 hrs. 30 min. or raised to 4 hrs. 30 min. Oven was self-cleaned 12-20-04 - set time 3 hrs. 30 min. Wouldn't heat Xmas Eve 12-24-04. Called electrician and wiring was fine. Appliance repairman came. Diagnosis: it had overheated during cleaning and needed new magnetron (thermofuse). New one found in back of oven, it was repaired 1-2-05 so only labor and service charge, $79.

1-7-06 cleaned oven again, set time 2 hrs. 30 min.; that evening oven wouldn't heat again. New magnetron ordered and installed 2-23-06. Oven worked but new blower was needed. It came 3-7-08 but was wrong size. New blower ordered, installed 3-29 and also installed new control panel which workmen had damaged accidentally when they'd removed oven 3-7-06. Charge: $172.35. No charge for control panel. Wrote Whirlpool re this, received phone call saying nothing could be done as warranty had expired. All satisfactory for two years.

1-5-08 cleaned oven again. Set time 3 hrs. 30 min. Again oven went out. Also control panel. All replaced 1-22-08. Cost $355.04 Again I wrote Whirlpool and again same response: no warranty. 9-23-08, cleaned oven. Set time 2 hrs. 30 min. Tried to heat oven two days later, again no heat. FOUR times since purchase we've had this same problem in oven less than 5 years old. Total we've spent: $666.39. Phoned Whirlpool last week and Supervisor I'd asked for in Customer Service Dept. finally offered me 30% credit toward new Whirlpool oven. This oven we have now is a lemon and 30% is not acceptable, in our opinion.

I had to pull unit out to reach gas valve. I called Whirlpool and complained this was a fire hazard and they agreed to replace the range with a new one.

New one came and guess what? After a few weeks it too began to overheat. Control panel was replaced but oven continues to act eratically and never keeps correct temperature. Whirlpool offered to repair but I requested a refund because I do not trust this unit in my home. They refused. I also filed a complaint with the U.S. Product Safety Commission with no result.

Then the part was not covered under warranty. I had to pay $150 with shipping and tax to fix it.

Soon after that the microwave went dead. I have not fixed this yet, but now both items are useless. We paid over 1200 dollars for new cooking appliances, close to 200 dollars in repairs, and they are not even three yrs old and now I am looking to replace them again. The Model #'s are:
    Oven GY398LXPT00 Serial XS1110404

    Microwave MH3185XPT Serial TR R4412075

Now I am looking to replace these appliances. We cannot cook food for ourselves or the children. This is a cost burden that should not happen. We purchased these pieces for a high cost, now have to shell out money we can not afford.

I finally got Whirlpool to replace the main control board as the warranty was still in effect. It worked fine for about 6 months and then it started locking out again. When you bake something the oven shuts down without notice and if you're not watching it you don't know how long it's been off.

We purchased our cook top stove in Feb 2005 and have had nothing but problems with it since we purchased it. The very first time I ran my self cleaning oven, the ceramic cook top cracked, [they] replaced it, I didn't use my self cleaning oven again for 2 years because I was afraid it would crack again, but I had no choice when my daughter spilled something in the bottom of the oven, but it didn't crack I was so happy, but 2 days later when I used my oven to bake a pie crusts, I check on the crust by opening the door and when I closed it lightly, there was pop and the top had cracked again.

When my husband called because the first time it cracked the lady at the customer service said it has a 5 year warranty on it not to worry if it cracks it will be repaired at no charge, but when he called and mentioned the 5 year warranty, he was told no its only for the parts, not the service call or labor. WE would have to pay for that which would be about $75 or more. My husband told her we don't have $75 to get it repaired she said sorry nothing can be done. My husband is a disabled vet who works full time to support a family of 5 on. I can not believe a company with a reputation like doesn't stand behind what your products or warranty.

This is the second time we have ran our self clean oven and both times, the cook top cracked. So now our stove has gone from a simple hair line crack down the middle to 5 pieces where we have had to cook on it in order to feed our children. There is obviously a flaw in this stove if every time I use the self clean function on the stove it cracks the cook top. [They] should recall these stoves before some one or a child gets seriously injured or killed. Thank you

WE paid almost $400.00 for this stove and they expect us to pay for the labor and repair for a flaw in their range.

I bought Whirlpool gas range model #SF262LXSW in early Nov. of 2006. Since then, it has needed 3 repairs. I never needed one repair on my old 25 year old range.

While under warranty, the oven wouldn't heat up and needed a new gas valve. The repair man told me that very seldom happened and the part would have to be sent for. Because of the wait,I was upset with the company that I bought the range from and they extended my warranty for one year beyond the manufacturer's warranty. Good thing! I had to have the timer fixed because it stopped working correctly and the broiler would light for a minute and shut off for a minute and continued doing this for about 6-8 minutes before it would stay lit. Both repairs were covered under the extended warranty. Now I worry about what's going to go wrong after the warranty is expired in 2 months. While living on a fixed income as a senior, that's a real concern for me.

There were no physical or economic damage, only the future worry.

I purchased all new whirlpool appliances through Lowes, for a kitchen remodel. I had the appliances delivered approx. 1 month after purchase, as I felt this is when we would be ready for install. It actually took 2 months for install. When we put the appliances into place we noticed the front of the stove had a metal strip at the bottom that was made wrong, and protruded. We took pictures and showed Lowes, who gave us the phone # for whirlpool to call.

We call and have never been treated so poorly. We were told that because we purchased the appliances more than 30 days ago we were stuck with them. The rep. said as long as the door opened it was not their problem. If we wanted them to come out and correct the problem we would have to pay. What really made me mad is that we would have to pay for the parts that whirlpool screwed up!

After 15 mins. of heated conversation with the rep. I asked for a number or place to write a complaint. She said there was no one higher up that her. Her word was final. You would think for good will, after I made this major purchase, they would fix what they should have made correct the first time. By doing this they could fix the problem with quality control. When I cut my hand on the corner of the stove, I should have returned it then. Footnote: Lowes has been great in helping to secure a door that is not made so poorly for us.

They shipped the part directly to me and gave me the option of installing it myself or having a service technician come out. I opted for the service tech, and watched him install it, very simple.

It now has popped off again, after warranty, and while they will provide me with a part, they won't ship it directly to me and insist that I pay a technician to install it. I suspect the cost of the part will be hidden in the tech's fees. Their customer service is horrible. We went to use the oven and it would not heat (just as I have read about in your column).

We called the store that supplied the appliances sorry, out of warranty the repairman came out, diagnosed the problem bad T.O.D. About 200.00 later, oven was fixed he said the oven got too hot, but the cleaning cycle time and temp. is pre-set so... we have been very hesitant to use the self-clean function. Well...after cleaning the oven only two times since Dec.'06, it did it again.

I called the store again, and asked if they have had any other calls about problems "why no, we have never heard of that'. The repairman came out, we showed him the old repair order and defective part.He checked the part. This is a 130 Degree(C) switch, they (Kitchen Aid) have had so many problems that they are now making the ovens with a 30 degree (C) higher tempurature T.O.D.switch.

We have ordered a bunch of the new switches, but they have been back-ordered for 3 months, I called Wirlpool/Kitchen-Aid,Costumer Service and they assured me that they have no record of any problems what-so-ever. The plastic is cracking at two different places on the door and not because of misues on my part. I am the only one that uses it. On Mother's Day, 2008, my son gave me a new Accubake Whirlpool Electric Self Cleaning Range Model RF362LXTT3. Right away, I noticed that the dual burners were much slower than my old 20 year old stove. I timed the speed of the burners using exact parameters for each test. Boiling two quarters of water on the left burner took 27 minutes and boiling two quarts of water on the right burner took 16 minutes. I called Whirlpool and they sent out a repairman. The repairman replaced the elements, and much to my chagrin, the right burner now took 30 minutes to boil 2 quarts of water, but the left burner was improved to 19 minutes.

I called the service rep and he came out again and replaced the right burner again. Still couldn't get it back to the original 16 minutes, but did improve it to 21 minutes. Not really acceptable, but I am getting tired of service calls, so I have settled for the time. Then when I attempted to use the self clean feature on very mild soil the oven did not heat hot enough to burn the soil to a white ash. It just simply baked the soil onto the interior of the oven and no amount of additional cleaning will get the soil off. Whirlpool said i should have personally cleaned the oven before I used the self cleaning feature. In all the years of having self cleaning ovens, I have never had to manually clean an oven before I used the self cleaning feature.

Then this past week end I attempted to bake cupcakes for a birthday party. I used two identical pans, filled with the same batter, and baked on the same oven rack. The cupcakes on the left of the rack did not rise. The cupcakes on the right of the rack rose beautifully. Called Whirlpool again. By now I am very agitated and want my range replaced. Of course, Whirlpool does not replace ovens, they only repair. So they send the service rep out again. He does a test on the temperature of the oven and finds that it continually shuts on and off It was set at 350, turned off at 358, turned on at 310, turned off at 390 turned on at 331, turned off at 399 turned on at 342. The rep asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wanted a new range, so he called Whirlpool and recommended that they replace the range. They told him to have me call Customer Service. When I did, I was again told that they do not replace ranges.

So tomorrow, the service rep comes again. I have now had a total of seven service calls, and tomorrow will make number 8. Each service call requires me to take off work, and wait four hours for the rep to arrive and then whatever time it takes for him to diagnose and/or attempt to fix the problem. I agree with everyone else on this site that I will never purchase anything Whirlpool, Maytag or Kenmore (since they are all part of the same company) again.

The service that Whirlpool offers after the sale is lacking and it cannot be economically feasible for Whirlpool to continue to send out reps to repair defective products so many times. My $800 range has surely by this time cost them more in service calls and parts than the original purchase price. I simply want a new range. Is there a lemon law on appliances? If not, there really should be.

Again while under warranty, the electronic touch pad control quit functioning. Again a warranty repair call indicated it was a faulty part and it was replaced.

Also appliance manufacturers used to make their own parts. Now, the parts for many different companies are made by ONE manufacture.

We bought a Whirlpool Accubake self-cleaning oven in September 2003. It looks good but the Accubake is an oxymoron. Shortly after our oven was installed we were cooking Christmas dinner and the oven just quit. Once it cooled down we were able to re-start it. Then, quit. The repairman replaced the sensor.

Roughly 12 months later we found the oven temp was far from Accubake accurate. It was not heating to temp indicated on control panel, and when it finally reached the correct temp it then exceeded it. Surprise - need a new control panel! We were just outside the warranty period and the Whirlpool Customer Service rep was very pleasant, but no financial remedy was offered.

We have chosen to use an oven temp thermostat for the last 4 years and now the broiler doesn't work. I don't think it is too much to ask for a product to work for a reasonable amount of time (the operative word being reasonable).

We had our Whirlpool Gold oven control panel replaced within the one year warranty period. It took a total two ridiculous weeks to get a hold of Whirlpool and get the panel installed. Six months later, the exact same problem has occurred and we cannot use the oven. Whirhpool has said there is only a 90 day guarantee on parts and labor even though the industry standard is one year on the replaced part. Since talking to a repair man we have learned this is a common problem and many people have to replace the control panel multiple times!

We can't afford to spend upwards of $300 every six months on a control panel for this oven. We also didn't plan on working meal plans around a broken oven. They should honor their products, and fix the problem!

I purchased an over the range microwave made by Whirlpool in July of 2007 which acted up a bit when it was first installed (the touch screen wouldn't respond when I touched it) but after about 24-48 hours it worked. Since then the screen worked on-again off-again until October (nearly 4 months ago) when I called for a repair. Since then, whirlpool has sent out two different repair companies. I have stayed home from work, and therefore lost money, 9 or 10 times for repair men to come to my house. Whirlpool refuses to replace my microwave and insists that I keep allowing the repair companies to attempt to repair my appliance until they can confirm that it is not repairable.

The problem here is that Whirlpool keeps shipping the repair companies broken parts, and the repair companies don't check their parts (even though I have requested them to) until they arrive at my house and dismantle my microwave. I am stuck in a catch 22. If the repair company fixes my microwave then that's fine, but I cannot get a new microwave unless they say that mine is unrepairable. The repair company cannot say that my microwave is not repairable until they replace the part that they think is broken. They cannot replace the broken part unless whirlpool sends it to them in one piece.

The first repair company I dealt with had poor customer service on the telephone, and instead of contacting whirlpool to request proper packaging on their parts, they made me do it. When I contacted Whirlpool, they told me that they don't ship parts to repair companies, and recommended a different company as the solution. I have since learned that Whirlpool does ship parts for repairs, as the supervisor at whirlpool today offered to do exactly what I requested two months ago: make sure the parts are packaged properly so that they arrive safely. If they had done that at the time I requested, I would have been able to go to work 5 more days, and would possibly have had a functioning microwave before Thanksgiving. They will not tell me how many times they will ship a broken part or how long I have to wait before they put customer service first and give me an operating appliance. They have offered to extend the warranty for 6 more months, which seems only fair sine the microwave had been out of service for 4 months and I do not see a light at the end of the tunnel yet.

I have lost at least $1500 that I would have earned had I been able to work the 9 days that I missed.

I had a service company test the surface tempature of the door and exterior cabinet. The door got up to 185 degrees and the cabinet got up to 160 degrees. I contacted Whirlpool, who sent this problem to their engineering department. I never received an answer from engineering regarding what was causing this problem. We then attempted another service call to try to remedy this problem. Upon checking if the repair had solved my problem, which it didn't, my daughter was accidently burned on this door. I immediately called Whirlpool and talked with their safety department. A new unit was sent to me. It, however, has the same exact problem. The lower oven door still gets hot enough to burn someone. When I called Whirlpool to report a continued problem, they basically told me too bad, as far as they were concerned it was fixed. This, even though the new unit had the same problem as the first. They will not refund my $1200.00. I am so afraid someone is going to be seriously burned.

I am now out $1200.00 for the cost of the oven, plus any money that I will spend on a replacement. Not to mention the danger to my famiy. This is a serious hazard.

They replaced cooktop number 2 in late August and within 90 days cooktop number 3 is doing the same thing. I have contacted WHIRLPOOL and they said they will give me 15 percent off on the parts. Why would I want another part when the same thing will most likely happen again? Four cooktops in 15 months is unacceptable. Whirlpool has said that is their BEST offer.

Every time we replace the cooktop my husband has had to pull this bad range out of the space in the counter. This results in damage to our new countertops and possible damage to our new flooring as well. I have spent HOURS on the phone with whirlpool. The interior light on my over-range microwave went out a few days ago. I looked inside the cabinet to find no access panel or light lens I could remove to install a new bulb. I went online to find instructions, none seem to be available for microwaves due to stored energy possibly causing electrocution to the unsavvy DIYer. I did call Whirlpool Corp. and spoke to 4 persons, explaining to each my situation and each referred me to the next person. The last person I spoke with was Brenda. She told me this unit would need to be serviced by an appliance repair technician, it is not serviceable by the customer. I called a service company to find out the charge for replacing a light bulb would be $95.00 per hour (not sure how long it may take) plus the service call plus parts. It seems the design and engineering are faulty to require this kind of excess. If I were to follow the same logic, why is it possible for me to remove/install the light lens on the underside in order to replace dead bulbs as I have done in the past? There are wires and sharp edges that can surely cut your fingers, why allow this? I haven't spoken or written to any others about this situation yet. I will try to give Whirlpool Corp. an opportunity to consider my dismay. If it comes down to replacing the microwave for such a minor issue, I may replace the dishwasher (Whirlpool) with a brand other than any of Whirlpools products and it's many brand names.

I contacted Whirlpool 11/30/2007 in reference to Side by side Refrigerator Model# GD5SHALQ02 not working. Whirlpool scheduled an appointment with Appliance Care Inc. because they do their warranty work. The Repair Tech came 4 Dec 2007 and stated to my wife that this is an easy fix. My wife ask the Repair person if they could wait for me that I was on the way home and would be their in about 10 minutes. I had the proper tool to clean up the burned pin on the compressor. Because the compressor was still under warranty I did not want to attempt to repair it (Void Warranty). The repair tech looked at the fridge, went to his truck and got some tools, and cut off the burned pin coming out of the compressor. The pin was 3/8 of an inch long. When he cut the pin off there was less than 3/16 of an inch left. He replaced the start relay with the old capacitor that was burned on one side. The fridge started working. He told the wife it would cool down in 24 hours. She once again asked if he would wait until I spoke with him; once again he declined. I arrived home in time to see his truck leaving.

When I went into the house you could smell the relay burning, and the fridge was cutting on and off. When I looked at the compressor you could see the arcing between the start relay and compressor. After removing the start relay which already showed signs of burning, I saw that he had cut the pin off. He never put the ground back on the compressor or the clip that holds the start relay to the compressor. By cutting off the pin so short he created a high resistance connection that could have caused a fire.

Around 11 a.m. I called Appliance Care, Inc. and requested to speak to the owner. I informed them what the repair person had done. They told me the owner wound call me right back. About 5PM I called back and was told the same thing. Finally the wife of the owner called and wanted to know if the fridge was working. Once again I informed her to what the repair person had done. She said they would order a new compressor. I am still waiting for them to call about the compressor. I believe the compressor could have been repaired if a competent repair person had been sent. The action he took damaged the compressor beyond repair. If I don`t hear from Appliance Care by Friday (12/21/07) (16 days), I will call Whirpool to report this damage caused by their Tech.

I have not had a fridge since 4 Dec 2007. I don`t know the dollar figure for lost food. I would have been happy if the fridge had been fixed. I feel this company provides very unprofessional repair service. Look Out.

This is not acceptable I tell them, what about honoring the Whirlpool Gold name? We are sorry, we can do nothing about it. Even their own representative tells me, When you fix this, never use the self cleaning operation. Remove the door and manually clean everything. So, this is how an $1,100 oven is to operate? A repair technician from Sears came out, diagnosed the problem, and replaced the regulator. No problems until November of 2005. There appeared to be no gas flowing to the oven, and therefore it would not ignite. The top burners worked fine.

Again, a repair technician from Sears came out but could not pinpoint the problem, and so he suggested the control panel needed to be replaced, since it controlled the flow of gas to the oven. He said the cost of a new control panel would be $750, which is close to the cost of the range itself. Neither Sears nor Whirlpool would take any responsibility, since they said the range is out of its 12 month warranty period.

The control panel in the whirlpool has gone out twice now and acts crazy. I turned on the oven and the self cleaning came on and locked my potatoes in the oven. I turned off the circuit breaker but Whirlpool must be the worst brand of oven I could have purchased. This is the second computer panel that has gone out. My mothers oven still works after 50 years with just an on/off switch.

I bought a Whirlpool self cleaning electric range model # RF364PXK about 5 years ago from Rent a Center in East Greenbush New York..Today, I slammed my hand down on the stovetop and it shattered! I am a small woman, so the force was not that powerful.. The only thing I can think of is after using the stove top for awhile the tempered glass weakened and this is a defective stove top.

I wanted to complain about this because if I had not had a cloth cover over the stove at the time, I would have gotten badly cut by this supposedly 'UNBREAKABLE" glass stovetop..Since my 12 year old grandaughter uses this same stove, it could have just as well happened to her by putting a full pan of water on the burner part... Then I would have her in the hospital getting stitches.

I called Whirlpool at 1-800-253-1301 and I was told that it was not a warranty issue as I hit the stove which is not considered normal use.. I told the woman that IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE, that tempered glass that is said to be unbreakable, should not have been able to be broken like this by my hand.. What if a gallon pan of water was accidentally dropped by a slip of the hand??? Either way, the glass should not break!!! ANYONE USING THE STOVE AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME WHEN THE SURFACE IS BEING REPEATEDLY HEATED AND COOLED FOR YEARS COULD GET BADLY INJURED!!!

My husband and I moved into a new home last April. All the appliances were new, but we did not choose them--they were already installed. Exactly one year and one week to the day of moving in, my Whirlpool oven's control board malfunctioned. I contacted them and, as everyone else has mentioned, because I was outside of the one year warranty (one week, mind you), I was completely out of luck, end of story.

I explained to them that I was 8 months pregnant when we moved in and we did not get our air conditioner installed until that fall, so the oven/stove went completely unused for more than 3 months. Basically, the thing broke after 8 months of use. Whirlpool couldn't care less.

Control panel caught fire on my Estate range. Four months out of warranty. THis happened in the middle of the night . The fire blackened the corian full high back splash behind the range. Thank God that it was there.

Range is useless. My concern is for others who may next if this is not a isolted problem. They want me to pay for the labor to fix the range. I don't want it in my home.
