We have Viking Appliances in our newly built kitchen. We were told Viking Appliances are the best but I just wish I had read the reviews first. We have a built-in Full Fridge and Full Freezer which has been leaking constantly. We paid top $$$ for both. We had the technician in several times but the problem is still there. Viking keeps referring us to a third party company for the repairs but they cannot do anything.
We have even agreed to pay for the any cost but after so many visits and expenses, problem is still there and our kitchen floor is always wet. Very frustrating. Dishwasher takes so long to finish, even though we have it on the shortest cycle but it takes hours to complete the cycle. Do not buy Viking products. There is virtually no after sale customer service.

This refrigerator is a disaster! The ice maker has broken repeatedly since I've owned it. Repair calls and bills for that and it still doesn't work. The plastic handles on the bins are all broken. When you pull on them to open the drawers, they break. And the worse thing? It leaks. I have thousands of dollars of damage to my bamboo floor. After having this repaired, I see that the pan under the refrigerator fills up with water every few days.
This is a refrigerator, not a high tech device. The engineering should be mundane. I've had other refrigerators from GE that are far less expensive that never needed servicing. Nothing with this refrig works and I don't understand how this company could release it for sale, not have a recall, not replace them, not offer money back. The product is totally defective.
I see that many others on this site have experienced the same problem. I am considering instituting a class action lawsuit. If you are interested, please let me know. It is unethical, bad business and fraudulent for the company to sell defective products and then not stand behind them.

I could kick myself for not reading these reviews before buying Viking!!! Built a new home with all Viking appliances. Serious quality problems on everything except the range....so far. They are not a refrigerator company or a dishwasher company. I am as far to say they cheap quality! We absolutely wish we could go back to our GE or Maytag kitchens. In 2 new house with GE and Maytag and 15 years we did not even have 1 service call. Viking in 1 year of our 3rd new house 3 problems with ref. and just a bad dishwasher (never dries). Frustrated and feel terrible that I spent $10,000 over our budget to get Viking to end up with this level of quality and service.

Well, in the event that a Viking representative would ever read these reviews, I thought I would add our experience. We have a 48" side by side professional unit which, thank heavens, the previous owners paid for, not us. I would definitely give 1 star if we were the ones out $11,000... The day we moved in there was a puddle of water on the floor under the freezer side. Since that day - 6 months ago - we have had a technician out 4 times for the same problem. He has tried multiple solutions. One day the freezer just quit working. So much ice had built up inside that the fan broke. Now the second fan has broken. The contents of our freezer have just melted for the second time.
We eventually said, "Forget the ice maker! Who needs ice?! Just disconnect the water from the freezer!" And today, again, the freezer is dead and water is puddling on the floor. It's a mystery to us, and obviously the technician. Since we can't afford to replace this beast - and don't really want a gigantic built-in space with a tiny-looking regular fridge in it - we are going to buy a freezer for our garage and just use the fridge side! Maybe I can use the freezer to store extra light bulbs and paper towels...I will never buy Viking!

We've invested on a full line of Viking appliances in our renovated kitchen a few years ago: refrigerator, stove, oven and microwave. We had to replace the microwave because it was not heating food. Now, the refrigerator is not cooling enough. We called Pacific Sales. We called Viking. They both referred to Appliance Masters, technicians authorized and specialized Viking appliances. Three technicians have come out five (5) times: Changed the fan, changed the board, checked the vent, checked the thermostat, calibrated the temperature. The problem has not been resolved yet. Our kids have gotten sick from eating food going bad because the refrigerator is not cold enough. VIKING IS HIGH END BRAND, EXPENSIVE PRICE TAG WITH POOR POOR QUALITY.

So, after years of AGONY, we finally purchased a new built-in refrigerator! Yesterday, our VIKING 48 inch built-in refrigerator was hauled away, and a new KitchenAid built-in was installed. It's sooo cold inside! Our food hasn't been refrigerated this well for years!
NOTE TO REALTORS: STOP telling people that Viking Kitchens are the best! You are doing everyone a big dis-service. What do you know about appliance quality? You only know that Viking looks good. Our Viking Fridge costs $9,999. It's beautiful on the outside, but for that amount of money, I also expect it to keep the food cold, and it cannot do that.
NOTE TO CONSUMERS: If a realtor tries to sell you a house with an "All-Viking Kitchen", tell her your offer to purchase the house is contingent on the sellers replacing all of the appliances with another brand! That should get the realtors' attention.
A Viking refrigerator is like a Ferrari car. It looks beautiful, and your neighbors will drool over it every time they visit. But only you and your mechanic know the sad truth: Your Viking Refrigerator and your Ferrari need major servicing every 6 months to keep them running. You have to keep a Sears Kenmore refrigerator in the garage so that when your Viking breaks, you don't lose $1000 of food. You have a Toyota Corolla in the garage so that every time your Ferrari breaks, you can still get to work.
If you are independently wealthy, and you have a housekeeper who can be at home every time the Viking repairman comes to visit, then buy Viking. But if you must take time off from work to stay home and wait for the repairman, keep in mind you will miss 3-4 days of work per year.
Summary: Viking Refrigerators are very expensive to buy ($9,999) and even more expensive to maintain. The first two years, while it's still under warranty, you'll say to yourself, "Whew, I'm glad it broke under warranty!" and then the warranty ends and it keeps breaking and keeps breaking, and then you think, "How did I get into this mess?" Small repairs are $300-$500. Major repairs are $1500 to $2000.

We are now in year two of our new house. And in year two of HELL in dealing with our completed Viking Kitchen. Since the install we have had problems with the two dishwashers, refrigerator, double oven with griddle and microwave. We have had numerous technicians that Viking sent come and "fix" the problems. One dishwasher leaks. The tech could not find the leak "but since it only leaked the one time, that shouldn't be a problem". It only leaked one time before he came out, and that is because we stopped using it. We have hardwood floors and a basement. Thankfully I was home when I spotted the puddle of water.
We haven't had a working ice machine since about 6 months after install. They have been out to replace countless times. Still not working. Each time we open the freezer door, water drips onto the hardwood floor. The griddle and oven heating temps are not accurate. The griddle from front to back differs about 300 degrees and side to side about 350. The oven cooks far better on the left side then right. The tech came out replaced a few things and said all was fine. We still have food that is uncooked on the right side. The next tech that came out suggested I stand there and rotate whatever food I am cooking so that it cooks evenly.
Each time I called Viking, I got the run around and lip service. The answer is "we will send out a technician." Seems they think we all stay home and have time to wait around for someone to show up. I have repeatedly asked for them to remove these appliances and refund my purchase price, to which they always say let me give this to my supervisor. And then we never hear from anyone. IN MY OPINION, THESE ARE NOT QUALITY PRODUCTS. I have and will continue to tell anyone and everyone not to buy VIKING APPLIANCES. THEY GOT 1 STAR ONLY BECAUSE I HAD TO SELECT ONE. OTHERWISE THEY WOULD HAVE RECEIVED A NEGATIVE 5 STARS!!!!!

I guess I am not the only one with this problem as I read the comments!! Has anyone found a solution? I have had a repair man out here 3x and it keeps happening. The coils freeze, the floor of the freezer has a 1/2 inch frozen solid water and water leaks out onto my hardwood floors. If this is obviously a problem why are they not fixing them??????? I had a Subzero in my other home for 20 years and this never happened!!! So during this beautiful Sunday I'm inside scraping ice and cleaning up water. Someone has to be accountable.

I purchased my Viking side by side 'built in' refrigerator in 2011... I have had ongoing problems... The dealer sent out a technician with a list of problems we were having... Water freezing within the door to dispenser, rattle within the grille, door hinge catches and pings when opened and closed. After a couple of times with dealer technician, they sent me to a local authorized Viking repair business. Numerous technicians were sent out to work on previous problems and then we started adding additional problems... The back wall piece that ice tray connected to came loose, and again no ice or water dispensing. Auger motor broke.
As to date, 2014 I am still contacting technicians to repair my frig. I just contacted Viking direct and wanted to know what can be done! She apologized and apologized and yet said that Viking will not take any steps to review and/or replace my messed up refrigerator... I was so displeased. The Viking appliances are high-end and I paid quite a nice ticket price for a kitchen full of Vikings... And being American made, which is why we chose Viking. We thought they would be a service quality company. Not the case in my experience. I would not recommend Viking appliances.

The Dishwasher has been repaired at least 3 times, the knobs are coming off the Stove Top Oven, the Refrigerator/Freezer has been repaired 4 times (It is still leaking water and not cooling properly). The Built In Microwave is not working (It was repaired twice, Panel went out) and the Built in Oven burns food. I have been in my house since 2009. I can't understand why I am having all these problems with Viking Appliances for the Price and Name, I expected Good Quality and Service. No One at Viking Address My Problems. 10 years ago we bought a 42 inch side by side frig. Service and repair began regular visits from day three and it has been a terrible experience. There are too many issues to list here, but if any one cared I would be glad to share the "rap sheet". The original dealer was Sewell Appliance in Sandy Springs, GA and the service company was Hadco. One of the frustrating issues was that many of the diagnosis discussions did not make sense. Cause and effect, symptoms and solutions, etc. are not always rocket science. Many ill-fated service calls have been endured. Once again, details available upon request.
We have lost contents several times and constantly put up with. High temps, iced up element, overflowing drain pan, on and on - we now have a small back up fridge plus TWO $160 freezers to rely on. I have no confidence in the Viking fridge. I'm surprised they are still made. I curse the day we saved $700 by not buying a Subzero. What do I want? I would like to have a qualified Viking rep look at my service records and admit that this is not normal. In the meantime, I would never have a Viking product and am seeking ways to publicize my opinion until Viking would step in for some sort of acknowledgement.

Second unit is worse with multiple issues and problems; ice build up on bottom freezer, water leaking onto hardwood floor, plastic drawer fronts and pulls breaking, ice maker supply tube freezing, bad door seals, both door hinges broken, and several more issues. I've had it with Viking and HADCO and have a Facebook page: ** for others to post photos and complaints with the hope we will be heard by Viking.

Have problems with this since 2008, with the little square pipes that connect from the refrig section down into the freezer freezing up solid with ice. When this happens the refrigerator warms up as it cuts the circulation from the freezer to the refrigerator. I have tried modifying the ducts to no avail... This is a crappy design, never seen anything like this. I've had GE appliances that are almost 50 years old that "never" ice up... The VIKING is defrosting, but it looks like the cycle is too short to warm the ducts properly - either they should be tied physically to the coil for warming or changed to teflon so ice won't stick....
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO GET DATA OR SERVICE BULLETINS from VIKING, and their STAFF are clueless.... These appliances are of such poor quality, how do they manage to market this junk? Class Action? Consumers' Reports?? Someone needs to shake these guys up.... The basic design is good but the product delivery is awful...

This is the one and only online product review I have ever written, and in spite of the many that precede mine, I feel compelled to chime in and advise other consumers to avoid Viking refrigerators (and dishwashers too, for that matter) like the plague!! We spent 2 1/2 yrs. on a complete state-of-the-art rebuild of our official historic landmark Victorian, to which we returned in July, 2007. As a Realtor who specializes in the sale of luxury properties in the San Francisco Bay Area. I had been recommending top-of-line Viking products to clients who needed to refurbish and stage their homes for resale. Today, I feel badly for ever having done that!
We have a built-in custom paneled upper/lower Viking fridge that acted up immediately. Within a matter of months, the fresh produce in the lowest pullout semi-froze and had to be discarded. I believe (but am not certain) that special heater was installed under warranty to prevent this from happening again. Before the year was out, another problem (forget the details) and was fixed. Then, right after the warranty expired, the contents of the freezer melted and we paid for the installation of another heater...
At some point thereafter, water from the fridge started pouring out onto the hardwood kitchen floor. Thank God we were in town when this happened and able to towel up the leakage for a few days until another heater could be installed. The entire bottom of the unit was frozen solid, and the floor boards immediately against the unit had warped.. Under duress, Viking paid for this repair. Finally, within the past year, the cooling of the refrigerator compartment ceased and we were without refrigeration for 4 or 5 days before -- you guessed it -- yet another heater could be installed (the cooling ducts had frozen).
Additionally, we got a recall notice for the defective front door. The dealer who enthusiastically sold the Viking appliances to us stated in response to my expression of distress & disgust: "Demand a replacement from Viking. They've had nothing but problems with those refrigerators (and dishwashers) -- they suck!" I requested a replacement, without success... As for the dishwasher, while all the interior components had to be replaced and I must basically hand wash everything and use the unit for sterilization purposes only, at least it's performed better than the refrigerator. Enough said!

30 months ago I bought a new built apartment in the Dominican Republic that came with a new 48" Viking professional refrigerator. It started to malfunction (not cold enough, not making ice cubes, making loud noises and not refrigerating altogether) soon after we got it. Kitchen Center in Santo Domingo, who supplied it, did not want to do anything about it pretending that the 12 months warranty had passed. Kitchen Center finally agreed to replace it with a new one at the condition that I pay them an extra USD $7,500.00 which I did. The new fridge is also malfunctioning and has the same issues. A Viking representative offered to change it about 4 months ago but Kitchen Center does not want to honor this promise.

I have filed numerous complaints with Viking regarding my Designer Series all freezer, model # DFFB304. My complaints get addressed for about five minutes and then lost in cyber-space. Viking has mastered ignoring the customer and blaming everyone else who has ever touched the freezer instead of their own poorly engineered/manufactured product. I have now had three separate Viking repair professionals at their recommendation identify the problem. Somehow, Viking is holding me liable on an install issue that was done by one of their authorized dealers who is no longer in business. They probably went bankrupt as a result of selling Viking products.
Condensation builds up in my freezer as a result of a failure in an interior heating element in the doors which is supposed to create the "seal" effect when the doors shuts. Now, my freezer doesn't shut properly, the interior unit is warped and I have nothing but condensation that eventually freezes inside the freezer and leaks all over my floors. Someone at Viking needs to take responsibility for their faulty product. I have a twelve-year warranty that is supposed to cover the failed parts, but I feel like Viking is going to drag out their BS until the 12 years pass. My next plan is to get a consumer advocate attorney involved and hold Viking responsible for their own poorly designed product. Designer Series should state "Poorly Designed Series!"

The Viking model I purchased was: DFSB423. It is a side by side and we had custom wood panels made for it so it would blend into the cabinets. It worked fine for the first year and then all of a sudden the gaskets on the doors would not connect with the outer shell of the fridge (Frame). So I had them replaced... and NOTHING changed. After the third or fourth visit from the official Viking fridge repairman, I was told there was NOTHING I could do to stop the fridge from leaking. There is a factory flaw with the foam filler process when the unit is put together... so basically what happens is the shell (frame) where the gaskets are supposed to seal gets warped because of this manufacturer flaw with the foam, which causes condensation and leaking all over our wood floors. Fabulous!

Bought two Viking refrigerators in 2006, started using them in 2007 and encountered major issues while still under warranty. We just replaced the door gaskets for the third time at a cost of $700 (parts and labor) for one of the refrigerators, but we totally needed them replaced because they ripped apart and refrigerator door would not seal. So far we had replaced: bottom set of fans, gaskets, computer panel, ice maker, and door hinge. The refrigerator freezer unit door still swings open by itself, always have to hold on to it otherwise it can hit person behind, which happens. Interior plastic bins all show signs of cracks. Water evaporating fan has stopped working on one of the units. Water breeds mosquitoes unless you clean tray by removing from panel screws.
Today, second time in the past month that the unit started beeping because freezer and fridge temperature reached high temperature, meaning refrigerator stopped working because unit iced over inside. The unit has never worked properly and has be out of service longer than it has worked. By the time we get the call to the repairman they order the parts they come back to fix, the fridge breaks in about another week. It mainly freezes the contents which leads to exploding sodas and cracked glass. It has read the incorrect temperature as well as unable to change the temperature.
Right now the unit was fixed yesterday after waiting several weeks for parts and just today called the store where it was purchased to have someone come out and check it for yet another issue. The store we purchased it refuses to exchange it because it is a "high end"product and they can't take it back... We had a house built and installed all new Viking D3 appliances. We have had problems with every single one of them. We moved in in May 2013 and as of December, we have had the Viking repairman to our house at least 4 times. Who has time for that? Every time has been for the refrigerator and at least one other appliance. Every time we have had to throw away hundreds of dollars worth of food. As I write this review a few days before Christmas, the refrigerator randomly decided to stop working. Convenient now that I have a turkey and all of the other items to make Christmas dinner.
I am so frustrated with this brand. After you spend the amount of money these appliances cost, you expect them to work. The authorized repair reps are idiots. Our repairman actually once told me that the refrigerator was leaking water all over the floor because we put leftovers in the refrigerator and bacteria crawled into the drain line and clogged it up. Um... what???!!! The refrigerator leaked on two different occasions and warped our wood floor. The repairman moved the refrigerator and scratched our wood floor.
The oven took hours to cook anything - even a simple meatloaf. The shelves slid out once the door was open. The temperature fluctuated +/- 15 degrees. He told us that was normal or the food would burn. No. Just no. The burners on the gas range only light halfway around. The vent just stopped working. The dishwasher leaves dishes wet. I would never recommend these products to anyone. I wish I would have read these reviews first. I hope anyone that reads this decides against Viking. They are pretty, but they cost too much to have this many problems.

In 2009, we replaced our 17-year-old SubZero with a Viking Refrigerator (15.2 cu ft of fridge and 5.1 cu ft of freezer). Aitoro's in Norwalk, CT threw in a Viking wine fridge for free. The doors to the butter shelf broke very quickly after purchase and the cheese door is cracked. We also purchased an extended warranty. Bottom line, the service company after 5 attempts to fix the refrigerator told us we were keeping the door open too long. We are empty nesters who work all day and are nowhere near the kitchen. Calls to Aitoro's did nothing. Calls to Viking Custom Service referred us to another store who does not service appliances purchased elsewhere. The service company who covers the warranty is unresponsive. For the last 6 months, our food is in the vintage, mustard yellow, GE refrigerator vintage 1977 (in the basement) which works like a champ. I would never, ever recommend a Viking appliance to anyone. I will never purchase another appliance from Airoto's who we have used for the last 20 years. Whatever happened to customer service? It seems we have no other alternative than to go and buy a new refrigerator.

I am thankful to hear that others have had the horrible experiences I have had with Viking. My issues relate to multiple appliances and again, we purchased an all brand new Viking kitchen, with top of the line features. Since I have had the appliance, I am on an intimate basis with the repair tech referred by Viking whom are not much better in terms of quality and consistency in servicing. Ice maker - I am on my third replacement, finally breaking down to try it again! My accessory doors broke off on day 1, forget it, too expensive to repair. My refrigerator leaks from bottom, put a towel there, it’s easier than trying to get a reputable repair organization to fix it. First, it’s this and then it’s that and then it leaks again.
Ice maker replaced 2x, then when it stops working after 30 days, I am told it only has a 30 day parts warranty. Thirty days, are you freaking kidding me? Now the Viking Dishwasher is out and again. Oh Viking had lots of trouble with their computer boards, but now on newer versions, all is good, yeah right. Really, I think this company puts all its R&D investment money into looks, not substance, and it’s damn irritating. The only saving grace for me is that we own a General contracting business and I can truly relate my experiences first hand to the customers only much too eager for referrals on best appliance practices... I would think differently if they even tried to take care of their customers.

Control boards in the all fridge model and the gas ovens do not light or function correctly, and in some cases not at all. The burn tubes are HAND drilled like from the 40's!!! Basically like some kid with a hand drill trying to drill the gas holes into a tube so it might work! Unreal. The service guy has been out 8 times to "try" and make it light correctly! The fridge, what a total waste of $7000.00!!! If and when it cools it will freeze the food or just alarm or stop cooling at +14 degrees c! This Viking crap has ZERO consistency and is RUBBISH! I will never buy another Viking product after what we have experienced with our 5-year old Viking refrigerator. Until this year, we were so thrilled with our new kitchen. Then Jan 5, 2013 came and our refrigerator stopped working. We had to throw out well over $1000 in ruined food. Imagine my surprise to find that we couldn't get same day service for such a serious problem. Only after contacting Dave and Donna from RiverBend and Co, where we purchased all of our appliances, did we finally hear from a service company. They came out 2 days later. Since the parts are so expensive for this appliance, they are not kept in stock. Not only were we charged for the new part over $500, we had the honor of waiting almost 2 more weeks for the part to arrive and a service person to come back to install it. A horrible 2 weeks, but at least it was after the holidays and the refrigerator was able to be repaired.
October 28, 2013, I came home from work to an alarm. Our freezer had defrosted again! By the middle of the night, the refrigerator alarm was going off. We lost everything for a second time! I called VESCO, the company who repaired our refrigerator the first time and they had no availability to send someone out and were not very interested in our situation. They recommended I call HADCO, and after 24 hrs received a response that they had great news - a serviceman would be in our area in 8 days! I think that is unacceptable. I started searching online to see if other Viking owners had had similar experiences. There are thousands of us posting similar reviews online about these refrigerators. We are heading out to buy a cooler today and now have to wait until Monday to start calling again to get a resolution. We are so disappointed that Viking does not care about its customers. Buyer beware.

How about some lemon laws here. I called Viking directly and the brain dead receptionists can not get me to the right person. Why? Because they can't fathom why someone with a California phone number lives in Texas. Gee, if you want to be elite Viking, you might want to consider that your customers have multiple homes in other areas. When I remodeled my kitchen, I chose a Viking refrigerator because I preferred its interior to the Sub-Zero and because I thought it was a reliable brand. MY VIKING REFRIGERATOR IS HORRIBLE. It has been nothing but problems. Initially, the tray on the bottom needed to be emptied multiple times daily (more than a quart) so that the water would not leak onto the floor. Additionally, there was a tremendous amount of condensation inside the refrigerator. I was told this was normal. If the water is not draining out of the bottom, I know I have a different problem. The part that regulates the temperature needs to be replaced because the refrigerator is freezing everything in it. Even when that is working, I cannot keep fresh fruits and vegetables in this unit because it does not regulate the temperature uniformly. Parts of the refrigerator freeze even when I have it on the lowest temperature.
I have recently resorted to turning the refrigerator off at night (the frozen milk will be thawed enough by morning to use). That also stops the alarm (which is to alert me that my FROZEN refrigerator is too warm) from going off in the middle of the night. When the door sagged so badly that it was getting to the point that it looked like it was going to fall off, I had to have two repairmen come to take it off and realign it (an expensive repair). My refrigerator was not a part of the "door falling off the refrigerator" recall. The ripping gasket was replaced (all repairs have been done by factory authorized repairmen) with an authorized replacement part that was of much smaller dimension. The new factory replacement part was not thick enough to reach the refrigerator because of the design of the door itself. The plastic form of the door bows out further than the gasket, so it is now impossible to get a seal.
Most recently, the shelves on the door fall off. The repairman told me I need to replace the door because it has warped. After years of throwing good money into an expensive "high-end" unit, and having replacement parts installed that are poorly designed for my unit, I do not have any confidence that Viking has engineered a replacement door that is well supported by its hinges, will close with a seal, and will not warp. I would have liked this on my original refrigerator. It is a basic expectation. More importantly, a new door will not resolve the poor refrigeration system or the water on the floor (Another basic expectation... a non-leaking refrigerator that reliably will not freeze your food, and not have excessive condensation on the interior).
How can Viking get away with duping consumers into spending so much money for such a poorly engineered product? Get The Word Out... Consumers Beware!!!... Don't go near Viking refrigerators unless you want to throw away thousands of dollars in repairs, throw out frozen lettuce, ruin your floors from the leaking water, and replace the refrigerator, cabinets and trim when you throw out your Viking refrigerator because you need a refrigerator that works reliably and don't need a house sitter to mop up the water that leaks daily.

10 years ago we did a remodel of our kitchen and game room after saving up for eight years to pay for it. I convinced my wife to purchase the Viking refrigerator over the Sub Zero which she really wanted. She had purchased a Viking range at our old house which she loved and we moved it to our new home. After it and the new refrigerator were installed I felt that it was perfect and I was proud of the fact that we were able to afford such a nice kitchen. Well soon after we had problems that everyone here has had and more.
I have been holding back from blasting Viking on the net for a while. Tonight we came home to see water stains in our game room ceiling, coming from the kitchen upstairs right under the fridge. I followed the water line through the drop ceiling up under the fridge. All good, no water or leaks from the line or connection. Then I notice that the drip pan is MELTED completely and is stuck to the floor like TAR. So if you are reading this and you had over heating/thermostat and coolant leaks and ice buildups and gasket replacements and hinge recalls and numerous service calls. YOU better check your drip pan. Did I mention that I work for a moving company and bash Vikings name everywhere I can. Imagine moving furniture for 8 years to pay for this.

We bought a Viking fridge and separate freezer in 2006 when we remodeled our home because they replaced SubZero products and fit into the spaces perfectly. We assumed when you pay for top end products, you get top end products. Instead, we have become used to the freezer leaking onto the floor and a sheet of ice on the bottom shelf. Meanwhile, our fridge has begun acting up and is unable to regulate its temperature. We have been getting up in the middle of the night every night to turn off the alarm and have been dealing with frozen fruit and slushy milk.
We called a repairman out who told us the door hinge needs replacing and the door doesn't shut properly, so a couple of sensors now also need replacing. We are facing a $1300 bill for that alone, and also have to pay an installer to come out and re-level the fridge. Because we have a malfunctioning fridge and are trying to operate in a family home, this is an urgent repair for us. Today we found out the parts are backordered and it will be up to six weeks before they arrive. How is a family supposed to manage for six weeks without a properly functioning fridge???
We were also told the water lines to the freezer are frozen up and we need to turn the freezer off for two days and defrost it. What exactly we are supposed to do with a freezer full of food during this process seems to be our problem. We read some of these reviews while trying to troubleshoot our own issues and hoped we would not end up adding a review to this site, but sadly, you can add us to the list of disgruntled Viking owners who are wondering exactly what they paid for when they bought top of the line appliances and ended up with an unreliable money pit instead. I will think long and hard before spending another penny on Viking products again.

Our builder sent us to his appliance vendor to select kitchen appliances, whereupon a salesman convinced us to upgrade to Viking--there was some kind of package deal on at the time. The first 2 years were marked by constant frustration. The fridge had no shortage of problems (our version had a fridge above and freezer below). The hinges were replaced by a factory-authorized repairman twice (the first time, he forgot to lubricate them, and we ended up with a small pile of metal dust from the grinding metal parts). It took several attempts to get the door to stop swinging 180 degrees. The metal freezer rack started rusting (the factory sent the wrong part for the first attempted repair).
Later, the thermostat failed and had to be replaced (it was actually my co-worker who diagnosed the problem--meanwhile, the distributor denied that could be the issue). At some point, I noticed the plastic door gasket was tearing, but I let that one go. These days, every time I look at the fridge, I can't help but notice that it isn't aligned properly. And of course, we never even thought to look at the Energy Guide sticker, where I was surprised to find it's rated one of the least efficient refrigerators in its class.
The oven arrived with a faulty door. A new one arrived, but the repairman sent it back because it had been damaged in shipping. The second warranty repair seemed OK, but my wife was always unhappy at how long it took for the oven to warm up.
The microwave's "magnetron" failed under warranty and was replaced. But this morning, the microwave started arcing, smoking, and making spectacular sparks from behind the back panel. It's now 6 years old, and I think its life has ended.
I'm pleased to say that we did not roll over and play dead, and successfully argued our case to get Viking to cover all of our problems under warranty (except today's event). But my wife and I lead busy lives, and it's been very draining to be constantly booking appointments, waiting around for repair people to show, and badgering the company. When we first bought Viking, I read all about how they studied and learned from Toyota's quality control systems. All I can say is, they couldn't have been paying much attention on those trips to Japan.

Viking 42' side by side refrigerator - Our kitchen is mostly Viking appliances. The stove and ovens have been good. This is our second Viking refrigerator. The first one was recalled because the doors were falling off. Our choice was to either have the doors replaced or to purchase a new Viking at a reduced price. We opted for the replacement and decided to upgrade to an ice and water on the door feature. What a mistake. The ice machine on this unit has not worked properly since day one. We have had several service calls. The last service call was placed in July.
Apparently, Viking only had a contract with one person for warranty work and that person was not available due to an illness. Viking then sent out another company. They ordered a new ice machine. We did not hear anything from anyone for over 2 months. Apparently the parts were on back order. Now the refrigerator is leaking water. It will take a week to get someone out. At that time, they should have the ice machine parts.
Viking is blaming the service provider in Las Vegas. The service provider is blaming Viking. This refrigerator costs over $10,000.00. I would NEVER purchase from Viking again. Save your money, get an LG or Kenmore or if you need to go big, go Sub Zero. Customer service is a thing of the past, unfortunately. The middle griddle has had a temperature control problem since new and now barely heats up. The fridge/freezer condensation drip pan on the bottom overflows every other month. I believe this is because they tried to not use an electric heater for evaporation to save electricity but it is an energy pig anyways. I changed the ice maker which now works fine because it isn't made by Viking. The through the door ice dispenser has never worked consistently even after being replaced. This last time, I came home from vacation to a refrigerator that was 68 degrees!! Now it has been recalled due to a faulty door that could break off at any point in time! It looks beautiful in my kitchen but it is the biggest hunk of garbage on the market. And I am stuck with it because I cannot afford to replace it at this point. We live in a neighborhood of $2 million homes that were all built in 2002-03. The builder put all Viking appliances in the kitchens of every home. The refrigerators are 48-inch wide side-by-side built-ins. We had problems starting in year 1, and it continued to year 2, and Viking replaced the entire refrigerator in year 3. We continue to have problems every year, but it's long out of warranty.
I don't know every family in the neighborhood, but the families that I do know are very unhappy with their 48" Viking refrigerators. Most of the Viking refrigerators in the neighborhood have broken down repeatedly. One family hired a lawyer and got the fridge replaced a SECOND time in 10 years. I wasn't so lucky - I asked Viking to haul away the refrigerator a second time and replace it, but Viking convinced me that they could fix it, so I allowed them to send out a repair team at their expense. It took over 6 trips to get everything working again. After 3 more years, it broke again, this time out of warranty.
The Viking refrigerators are beautiful, but they remind me of certain expensive import cars which look beautiful but need a full-time mechanic to keep them running, if you know what I mean. Basically, these units cannot control the temperature. In the winter, everything in our fridge freezes (water bottles, veggies, etc). In the summer, everything gets rotten (milk goes sour, ants come in and eat the veggies, etc). Even when we try to manually override the temp, it won't hold a "good" temperature.
The Realtors LOVE Viking, and brag about Viking kitchens non-stop. Have they ever owned Viking? I doubt it. Now, when we hear Realtors talking about Viking kitchens, we laugh at them - they haven't got a clue what they are talking about.

We did an expensive kitchen remodel in 2008, installing a $5000 built-in 36-inch Viking All-Fridge. In these last 5 years we've had nothing but trouble with it, and had to get service men out here numerous times. Often they were not able to fix it. It seems from the other reviews that we've been having the same identical problems with this fridge: 1.The beeper would start beeping at any time while the door was closed - was fixed. 2. The uber-heavy door is sagging to the left - was worked on, but still visibly sagging, so I don't think the fridge closes properly. 3. Ice builds up on the cooling panel behind the top shelf. 4. Water constantly collects on the shelves, dripping everywhere, and everything is wet inside. Have to keep towels on the shelves to keep them as dry as possible. Have to put in dry towels every few days. Have to take out shelves and drawers to dry out, as vegetables etc. will stink and rot when sitting in water all the time. 5. My vegetables freeze in the veggie drawer, and have to be discarded. Can't use the drawers.
Numbers 3, 4 and 5 have been ongoing for about a year now. More than one serviceman has tried to fix it, and I have no hope that it will ever change. In the beginning the fridge was under warranty, and the "repairs" cost nothing. That soon expired, and we've been paying out of pocket for constant repairs to this so-called "high-end" fridge, which it is not. Our patience is wearing thin. The service people have been very helpful, and really tried their best to solve the problems, phoning Viking, and getting advice from them as to what they should do, but nothing seems to work. We live in Canada, but as Viking has no problem selling their products here, they should also be accountable here when their products don't deliver.
This morning, the repairman came out here once again. Viking has told him to install a new gasket, which is the rubber around the door that ensures a tight seal. He did not do it, and told me straight up to cut my losses, get rid of this fridge, and get another one. Easier said than done, because it sits built into a space especially designed for it. So we are pretty much screwed. I asked him to send me a list of all the repairs they had done on this fridge so far, and I will post it here when I receive it.
There is no warranty anymore of course, but it would be nice if Viking would acknowledge our very sticky problem, take responsibility, and reimburse us for the price of a second hand fridge. This is the first time in our lives that we've had problems with a fridge, and we sorely regret buying it. We will never buy any Viking product ever again, and will certainly advise everybody else against doing so. Had I known then what I know now, I would never have bought a Viking product. Fortunately my other appliances are not Viking, and none of them has given me any trouble so far.

Our Viking Professional Kitchen included an under counter bar fridge. It worked for less than a month before needing repairs. About every three months after that, it would suddenly just stop working. Parts for repair would take up to a month and a half. I tried talking to Viking but they would not accept that this product was a lemon and maintained that it was covered by warranty (so why should I complain). They didn't get the issue was that we paid way more for a high-end product that worked for only a few months total out of the first year. It has been repaired a half dozen times now (appears to be a poorly designed electronics control - not a compressor).
Fortunately, we purchased extended warranty as the same problem has occurred again. Once again, it's a month or more waiting for parts. Our Extended warranty is over this fall. If something goes wrong after that, then we are on our own. I will toss it and buy another brand. No problem with any other Viking products, but based on the terrible Viking corporate response, I would not buy from them again. Wolf /Sub-Zero is a better combination if you are springing for high-end appliances.

In the first year under warranty, the bottom slide-out drawers and hinges snapped off and broke several times. The tracking was replaced as well as the entire drawer system. The motor broke, drawers cracked, compressor broke and the sealer to the door replaced. I think everything was replaced in the first year. Now that it's 2013, every side holder on the door side are held together with duck tape. The ice maker stopped working a long time ago. Drawers lost their handles - all broken off. Compressor is out and the bottom drawer a joke. Doors don't stay closed. The alarm goes off randomly when it wants to have to get out of bed to press the alarm off button several times a day.
We still have the recall replacement hinges for the doors uninstalled as of yet. Apparently, the doors can fall off randomly and hurt people. Viking offered a discount for a new refrigerator if we decide not to get the hinges replaced. However, I am not sure that will solve any future problems. Within the first month, the drawers in my refrigerator both cracked because the door trays hit them every time they are opened and closed. Then the top shelf and the vegetable drawer froze all of my food! The door to my wine cooler keeps flying open and the dishwasher was serviced several times because it started to smell like a wet dog. I purchased all top-of-the-line Viking appliances for my recently renovated kitchen. Unfortunately, my 48" refrigerator with ice/water dispenser in the door has never functioned. The ice dispenser freezes-up and will not rotate to dispense the ice. Viking and Hadco (the local distributor) sent Mr. Appliance to get it working on six separate occasions, but they could not determine why it freezes-up. Now Hadco and Viking have been discussing the issue for the past 4 months. I simply want it removed from my kitchen and my money returned! I do not recommend a Viking refrigerator especially when the manufacturer and distributor cannot simply replace my $10k refrigerator "lemon" with one that works!

We did a kitchen remodel in 2005. Just like all of you, we thought we were buying the "top of the line" appliances. We have replaced the hinges twice, the freezer seal, the icemaker three times, had water flowing out of the corner of the bottom freezer, the alarm going off constantly, and now - a refrigerant leak. We were told that it is a ten-hour repair for two repairmen - approx. $1800! We are going to buy a new unit this weekend, and you can bet that it will not be a Viking. If there is a class action suit....count me in!

We purchased all Viking appliances for our custom-built home in May of 2012. From the beginning, after our refrigerator was delivered on May 24th, we have had nothing but issues... There was a broken cover in the freezer section and a broken cover in the refrigerator. Those items have been replaced, but the main issue which has been an issue from the beginning is the water flow coming from the dispenser. It takes 45 seconds to fill a 16 oz. cup with water - way too long. We have called the techs numerous times re this issue and each one who came told us that this was normal!
The last tech was the only one who actually disconnected the water line from the water dispenser line on the fridge and checked/timed the water flow. He also checked to see if there were any kinks in the water line and there was not and we have also replaced the water filter after only having the fridge installed about 2/3 months. That did not make a difference in the flow of water. Is anyone out there having the same issue as we are having and what was done to correct this? Also the ice maker makes ice until it falls out over the side. They also replaced the arm that's supposed to stop ice making when it hits at that level. It does not stop till it's literally over the top. Help!

Every Viking appliance has already been repaired at least once since September of 2010 except the range hood. The latest repair was to the 36" freezer for which Viking charged $362 to replace a PCB assembly, stating that we were out of warranty. Their customer service team reads a scripted "you are out of luck" statement and definitely leaves you with the impression that they couldn't care less! This is high end price, low class service! I purchased a separate Viking VCFB304 fridge and freezer model from Designer Home Surplus in Dallas, Texas four years ago. For the last year, we have been having problems with an alarm going off intermittently, more commonly at about three or four in the morning. I contacted a general appliance service center in my city and they came out and unsuccessfully tried to fix the problem. After this experience, I contacted another service center and this time searched for an authorized Viking repair technician. This repair center was very professional. They came out, knew the product and the problem I was dealing with. However, there was a problem! The units I had purchased from had been stripped of their ID Tags with model and VIN ID tag. For this reason, the authorized Viking repair tech could not work on my product as it was either a written off product or stolen. Both units, fridge and freezer, had the same issue.
I contacted the retailer I purchased them from Designer Home Surplus and spoke to their customer service rep, and they told me that I should try another service company. I contacted Viking and explained my problem. I forwarded them a copy of my purchase invoice to prove I bought them. They didn't have much interest that their authorized Viking dealer might be selling written off merchandise, and they didn't really have an answer on what to do next but that I should contact the retailer. My fridge still is not fixed and I have been told it is being looked into. I asked them to authorize their authorized tech to fix the problem in the meantime not expecting it to be under warranty, just wanting to pay to fix my problem and use my fridge, but they won't make a call to authorize it. I would throw this unit in the trash but it's built in to my custom kitchen cabinets, so this is not an option as my kitchen was built to accommodate these horrible appliances.

I have a Viking side-by-side that was installed 5 months ago. Within weeks of installation, I found the drip tray full of water. Thank goodness we found it; otherwise, it would have flooded over and ruined our wood floor. Still under warranty so we had a Viking-approved servicer come out and and fix it (and by fix, I mean he turned on the heater to the drip pan so it is constantly on to evaporate the water). Three weeks ago, we came back from a week-long trip to find everything in the fridge totally frozen over. We had to throw all the food away, only could save some of the beverage. The Viking servicer said it probably was not installed properly and told us to contact a certified installer to correct the problem, which would be on our dime
We contacted an authorized installer. Lo and behold, the installer said installation is fine. The servicer is back and was told by a Viking rep that it could still be an installation issue, that the leveling is probably not correct or something. Whatever. The servicer adjusted level and thawed out the fridge chiller/compressor with a hairdryer. He said if this doesn't work, then they will replace the computer box. What a piece of crap. The saga continues and I need to take off of work for this nonsense. Don't buy Viking, I wish we didn't. Truly a waste of space and money.

I purchased a home that was 1 year old with Viking fridge/freezer and Viking oven in 2005. We had problems with the defrost cycle of the freezer section, within a year of moving in. Ice would freeze up on the back of the freezer then defrost. I called an authorized Viking service to come and fix the problem. He came, used my hair blow dryer to melt the ice, made some adjustment and left. It happened again and again. The melting ice ruined my wood floor and I had to pay to get it replaced. Then a year later, the door started to hang crookedly. I decided to purchase a new Viking fridge/freeze, same type but newer for about $10,000. I also bought the extended warranty on it.
Within 6 months, the first drawer cracked. I called the dealer and they told me my extended warranty would not cover broken drawers or shelves because that is considered wear and tear. I was completely annoyed. I tried to fix the drawer by crazy gluing it together. I also have red sticky tape wrapped around it to hold it together. I had to do the same with the cracked door shelf. Now 3 years later, I have three broken shelve doors and the broken drawer, all taped with red tape. It is absolutely disgusting the shabby quality of product that Viking builds. The oven that came with the house, the door became crooked too and doesn't close all the way. I had an authorized service come and see what could be done. Nothing! They no longer sell the hinge replacement part.
I had the same problem with the printing on the oven panel too. It has worn off and I had to write the temperatures and the baking programs with a black magic marker! I also called them to find out what I could do about that and they said I would have to buy a new front panel! I am 56 years old and have had many fridges and ovens in my life. I have never had any problems with any of them. Most of them were about $1,500.00-$3000.00. I will never buy a Viking product and when I am in an appliance store, I try to stand by the Viking section for as long as I can and tell anyone considering buying a Viking to not do it! I tell them to read the reviews about Viking products first. I decided to add my review so that if I can save one person from wasting their money, I will then be a satisfied Viking customer!

We just moved into a new house with a Viking refrigerator. This model has a pull-out freezer drawer on the bottom and today, when my daughter had a friend over, they opened the door to the refrigerator while the freezer drawer was ajar and the unit was so top and front heavy that it fell forward, nearly crushing both girls. Luckily, we have a kitchen island that is about 2 feet from the fridge that stopped its free fall. We only lost most of the contents of the refrigerator and spent an hour cleaning up broken glass and spilled food instead of rushing to the ER or calling 911.
This isn't the first problem we've had with this fridge despite the fact that we've only had it for about a month. The freezer leaks almost constantly into an overflowing drip tray and is ruining the hardwood floor beneath it. After today's incident, I went to the basement to discover that water was pouring from the ceiling light fixture directly beneath the fridge. I'll be replacing this unit ASAP as I'm afraid to let my children open the door by themselves.

I will never but another Viking appliance. Our Viking appliances are also 6 years old. We have $30,000 Viking appliances in our kitchen. They are six years old. Three years ago the refrigerator/freezer leaked water all over the hardwood floor, causing considerable damage. Last fall, our "closed system" failed (the compressor and entire cooling system - a repair costing more than $2000). At the time, Viking told me that a failed closed system is not unusual for the age of our refrigerator! It sounded ludicrous to me, but because that “piece of junk” matched everything else in my kitchen, I sucked it up and spent the money to repair the refrigerator.
Then two weeks after the closed system was replaced, Viking sent notice about a 'hinge recall,' claiming the door could fall off. I did not see anything wrong with my refrigerator door hinges, but I called Viking and was strongly urged to replace the door hinge. Immediately, after replacing the hinge there was a significant problem. Now, the door does not close properly. Lo and behold, six weeks later, at the end of 2011, Viking issued a second 'hinge recall' and this time offered customers a reduced price of $4470 ($4100 plus tax) to buy a new Viking refrigerator. I contacted Viking’s customer service immediately because I wanted to know if Viking was willing to reduce the replacement cost of a new refrigerator to help compensate me for the major repair I just incurred.
After 3 months of phone calls and emails waiting for Viking to respond to my request, I finally sat on hold for 20 minutes waiting for a customer service representative (I use this term loosely) who was authorized to help. I explained the fact that I was willing to replace my refrigerator if the cost was truly $4500; but since I just spent more than $2000 on repairs, this new replacement refrigerator would effectively cost me $6500. I asked if Viking would be willing to reduce the replacement cost in any way. I was told, "No, the price you have is the price you'll pay."
I inquired why Viking had not made this replacement offer when my closed system failed before I sunk $2000 into this refrigerator just 3 months prior. I was told that was "beside the point" and I could "take the offer or not", but there "is nothing more Viking will do." I advise anyone and everyone who has not already made the purchase: don't buy Viking! This is a mediocre refrigerator, but their customer service is by far the worst and most insulting I have encountered. Yes, I will be buying a Sub-Zero to replace this piece of junk and use a front panel to match my other graphite grey appliances.
Note: For others with graphite grey appliances, I have found an Italian laminate by Abet Laminati that matches perfectly (879 Colorpact-sei is thicker than the regular product). I have had a test door made up to be sure it is a perfect match.

Viking 48" Built in Refrigerator recall and problems - I've had this refrigerator for 10 years and had custom panels to match our new kitchen cabinets made and install without problem when we bought it from the Great Indoors (now out of business). Shortly after, Viking had to replace a faulty compressor. Then a few years ago we had a recall for door hinges needing replacement, which they did.
Last year it stopped cooling properly and I paid $350 to fix leaky refrigerant problem. Now, door recall number two happens (class action lawsuit). We were given the option to fix or replace the unit with a new one for a reduced cost of new. We chose a new one but wanted one that would work with our custom door panels as the first one was. I was told by a Viking recall rep that some modification of the panels might have to be done by an installer at our cost and I was fine with that. I ordered the refrigerator through the Viking distributor, Lakeview in Elk Grove, IL and was told 4-6 weeks. It took two months.
The original service manager left company during this time. The refrigerator was installed and the installers said the original panels cannot be made to fit as we were told. An estimate of $2,000 for new panels, plus there were no handles so add that to additional cost I wasn't expecting. 4 calls to Viking customer support over 3 weeks and no help, just excuses and they'd have to listen to call records to see whose fault it was why this won't work. Lakeview was also contacted and I had to keep emailing/calling them to get help and they said it was in Viking’s hands but nobody took the effort to call me and keep me informed.
I called Discover and filed a dispute to halt payment. That working for 3 weeks until Lakeview responded to Discover and said there was no way the panels would work because "the owner customized the doors for the panels" and that was not true. Both Viking and Lakeview knew my original model and serial number and should have been aware that the old and new units were not the same. Viking customer support called yesterday and left a message saying it's not their problem that I ordered the wrong refrigerator. Now, I have a refrigerator without panels, no handles and to add to the ** is this $10,000 refrigerator has been freezing all my vegetables in the bottom "keep fresh" drawer! We are currently waiting for the Viking repairman once again to come fix the refrigerator to hopefully stop the leaking that is damaging our hardwood floor. If I was independently wealthy, I would throw them all away; but I'm not. We made what we thought was a wise investment that would last us through retirement. We purchased this unit, Viking Refrigerator DDSB423SS, when we remodeled our kitchen in September of 2006 at a cost of $6,000! We also purchased the 5 year extended warranty. We have had ongoing issues with the unit, but most recently it has become unbearable.
On Feb 17, 2012, the unit stopped cooling. Everything in the freezer melted. I contacted Carl Schaedel & Co, the authorized repair company in my area. They could not come to "diagnose" the problem until 11 days later, February 28th. When they came, I had to pay them $189 for the service call. I then received a call from the office indicating that it was a problem with the "sealed system", and that the cost of parts and labor to repair the unit was covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, but my $189 fee was not returnable. Furthermore, the "first available appointment to come to do the repair was three weeks later, March 19th! Mind you, both my husband and I work for a living, so in addition to not having a refrigerator, we have to take time off from work to deal with this.
On March 19th, 2012, the service man came and replaced the "mother board". The refrigerator appeared to be working after the mother board was installed. He told me to wait 24 hours before using, which we did. After 24 hours it seemed okay, it was making ice etc. So, I went grocery shopping and purchased $175 worth of fresh and frozen items, put them in the unit and 6 hours later, I opened the freezer and everything had melted. Furthermore, now there appears to be a broken gasket, which was not broken prior to the service call, so the door is not sealing properly when closed.
On March 21, my husband called Carl Schaedel again. At this point, he was angry and frustrated so he gave the long list of issues over the years and then indicated that the March 19th "repair" did not fix the problem and he also mentioned the broken gasket. It took 8 days to get another service call.
On March 28, a different repair person came to the house. He walked in to the house and within 30 seconds said that it’s not a problem with the "mother board", it’s something else. But he did not have the part on the truck. He will have to order the part! He did however have the new gasket which he put on the door and then told my husband to pay him for that since it's not covered under warranty! My husband made him put the broken gasket back on. Why on earth would we pay for a repair to a refrigerator we can't use anyway?
So today is March 30. I have just gotten off the phone with Carl Schaedel "customer service" rep again, asking when the tech will come to do the repair. I was told that she does not have the report from the tech yet, that it usually takes 24 hours. Okay, well it's been 36 hours. I am now waiting for her to call me back, to tell me when they will come and whether or not it is covered under the warranty!
We have been without a fridge for 6 weeks now. We have two kids and have been living out of a cooler! Doing our best to shop for breakfast and lunch items that don't require refrigeration but dinners have been tough, so we have been eating out most nights which we cannot afford!
We also have a Viking 6 burner range which also had problems and had to be repaired several times, but that is another long story and my major concern right now is the fridge, as the situation is really debilitating.
We are, beside ourselves and after reading the numerous other complaints, it appears we are not alone. Is there nothing that can be done? I am sure the CEO of Viking is very well to do, at the expense of us consumers. I have seen references to a class action suit. I am willing to participate, will even take a leadership role in making it happen, but I have no idea how to go about this. Can anyone assist? Please?!

I purchased seven Viking Appliances in 2004, when I remodeled my kitchen. All but one has had issues, but the most egregious is the refrigerator, which builds up ice in the freezer, and then leaks all over the floor. The wood floor is damaged, necessitating a complete re-sand and re-finish. There is rust in the freezer compartment, and there is condensation and mold in the refrigerator section, most likely as a consequence of the ill fitting door and hinge issues. As others have indicated, after 3 months of "review", Viking offers me the same "discount" as those with hinge issues, i.e., a new unit for $3,550. Since I paid $4,200 for this, it doesn't seem like a good deal, and as I told the service person, if I spend $3,500 or more on a refrigerator, you can bet it will not be a Viking. I have written numerous letters to the President, Fred Carl, who has the gall to have a full page ad in culinary magazines, professing his "passion for quality". I receive a reply from Dale **, and I am referred back to the same slow moving service department that I can contact via an 800 number.
I have had a variety of different brands in my homes, as I have moved around, and I have never, ever had the issues I have had with this purportedly "professional" line of appliances. Anything can happen to any product, but what distinguishes companies is the way which issues are handled. Do you have any Viking issues? We've had too many to count.
Our refrigerator door actually did fall off. The service company then repaired it. Then came the formal recall because the service company did such a hack-job. They couldn't use the new repair kit that was issued for the recall. I had to order a new door. It took months with REALLY bad follow-up from Viking. A new door was installed, and there are visible repair marks all over the hinges. I cringe anytime the door swings open to the stop point.
In addition, we had to replace the heat unit on the electric glass range top we have. It now burns pots on one burner, and does not heat on one other.
Also, our top of the line convection oven is so unreliable. For example, my wife bakes the same batch of cookies on the same temperature; one batch burns, and the next is underdone. We got a cheap oven temperature gauge that we hang on one shelf. In addition, the temp control settings are etched on so poorly that they have worn off.Viking says I have to replace the whole front control board (at my expense), just so I can have readable controls (convection bake, bake broil and et cetera), as well as the temperature settings on the other dial. They are completely worn off. The Viking units were purchased in 2005.
Our ice maker also broke; hottest days ever in NJ, and it has taken two months to get parts from Viking (via Dan Marc Appliance in Fairfield, NJ , the service company and Carl Schaedel, the distributor). Also, I called one day before the warranty expired, and Dan Marc wrote up the service order charging me for some items even though they are under warranty. They claimed you need some harness kit for the ice maker that's not covered. You have to be kidding? In order to replace a warranty item, you need to order non-warranted products to install the new unit.
Really?
They also want to charge me $12.50 for a screw that keeps the door from swinging open too far. The screw happens to be in the same area where they replaced the hinge unit that was recalled. You'd think they'd cover it since it was probably damaged in the two repairs of the hinge.
I spent one hour and ten minutes on the phone with the distributor (When you call Viking you are automatically forwarded to the local distributor. This is probably to avoid any accountability or to frustrate the consumer into just paying for things versus wasting as much time as I did). The distributor could not even find my products serial number in the Viking system (even though I had numerous service calls where I had to be in their system). So, the distributor put me on hold for twenty minutes to call the service company directly. Ah, then they suddenly found my information.
The whole Viking product, service, distribution systems is a disaster.

My father bought a 48" 'top of the line' Viking refrigerator several years ago. Since the start, the fridge had issues -- one after the other. My father passed away; and the condo has been recently rented. Since the beginning of May, we have been trying to get Viking to fix the unit as it is not properly holding temperature. The refrigerator is still under warranty for major issues. The call to Viking for repair was re-routed, without our knowledge, to a separate company who then gave the name of the tech company who was to work on our unit -- supposedly, one that is familiar with these units. 5 visits and many dollars later (for non-covered items), the fridge was still not working.
I called Viking again on June 9, 2011 and spoke with Sally **. She said she called Carl Schaedell Company, their 'master tech' service center, and that they would go with our original tech to correct the issues. As of 6-24, nothing had happened with this. I called Carl Schaedell Company myself and they claimed that no one from Viking had called them about this. I called Viking and let them battle it out. We then found another Service company, authorized by Viking. Mr. ** came out and was clearly upset that he was not the tech called in for our issue, as he had worked on this unit for my father several times in the past -- attitude! He then proceeded to tell us that everything the previous tech did was wrong, and that the tech didn't know what he was doing, etc, etc.
By this time, 6 weeks had gone by. He came on a Thursday and said that 'thermisters' were needed, although the previous tech had ordered and installed them; and this had not corrected the problem (Did I tell you that I have had to reimburse the tenants for frozen and/or defrosted groceries three times?). He also mentioned that he was not certain as to whether this would correct the problem or not. He repeated this to me the following week. He left, with the tenant thinking the fridge was ok to use, only to have everything in the fridge frozen when she returned from an outing. The fridge was 12 degrees Fahrenheit, and didn't even know it could get that cold! Now, it's the Monday before the fourth of July. I called Viking and insisted that they get the "master technicians" out to our condo to fix this issue before the holiday.
Now, we are up to almost 6 weeks with our tenants living with no working refrigerator. I demanded to speak with someone above Sally, only to get Bonnie who is absolutely the worst and most condescending individual I have ever encountered in trying to resolve an issue. She claimed that Mr. ** (the 2nd tech we called; and yes -- he insists that we call him Mr. **) was the only technician who could come out right away, and that he had ordered parts; and that Viking can't rush things due to a holiday. I reminded her that we had been working on this for 7 weeks already; but, that meant nothing. Mr. ** then called me. He said he could come out to the condo on Tuesday, June 27th, but he would have no parts. He said he ordered them (but did not say when). They might be in the next day, or might be in the day after that.
I was clearly upset at this point and asked why the parts were not shipped out on Thursday when he discovered the issue or at the latest on Friday. He said that 'things don't work that way.' So now, because I couldn't get anyone to actually fix the refrigerator after 7 weeks, I had to buy another 48" refrigerator ($6,800 + tax, delivery, installation = approximately $7900) so that our tenants could actually have a working refrigerator. Now, you think it couldn't get worse? It does. This 'customer service' representative and I are in the middle of a battle, with me seriously contemplating flying down to Viking headquarters to meet with the president of the company and drag this arrogant...
I can't even think of something to call her that would not be offensive to the reader of this e-mail. I now will be trying to sell this refrigerator after it is finally fixed. I have a perfectly good GE refrigerator that I am appreciating more and more. As I cannot take off from work 4, 5 or 6 days or more as needed for the technicians to finally fix this unit, I requested that the tech be allowed to pick up the refrigerator and bring it to his shop so he can take the time needed to properly fix the unit. I thought this was rather generous of me. Guess what? It was no deal. Viking insists that the refrigerator be installed in my home. I do not have space for a 48" refrigerator; and I do not have a garage. Nor do I have the time to keep taking off to be there for these repairs. Please let me know if there is anything that can be done to resolve this to our satisfaction. Can you possibly help? If not, to all those who read this, do not ever, ever purchase a Viking appliance.

I bought a Viking fridge with a pull out drawer with the graphite doors. I was so excited about the fridge it was beautiful. It turned over with my 4 year old grandson standing in front of it putting his water bottle in. I can't even look at it (doesnt work anymore anyway). I want to warn others how dangerous this was. The fridge is obviously top heavy.

I have a 2-year-old Viking 48-inch built-in refrigerator/freezer. There are 3 drawers in the unit, and all 3 have either broken or cracked. Amazingly, there is only a 90-day warranty on this kind of parts! In my opinion, it’s a manufacturing defect. Do they care? No! What will Viking do to help? Nothing, except tell me where I can purchase replacements.

I purchased $35,000 worth of Professional Viking appliances for my new dream home. The refrigeration appliances have been on self-destruct for over 2 years. They do not continuously provide service.
The microwave door does not open when the button is pushed to open it. Two service calls later, it's still not working as it should. The microwaves from Viking are made by Sharp. I have the exact microwave in my motor home, only difference being the hood ornament. The cooking equipment has worked properly. The refrigeration equipment sucks. Do not expect any service from Viking, They don't have a Service Department.
It is my opinion that they should not be allowed to continue business until such time as they market a product demonstrating some degree of quality.

I purchased a Viking 48" side by side refrigerator. Had to have it replaced with the first 2 months, the second refer has had nothing but problems. The ice-maker is faulty, the water line freezes thereby causing an overflow of water all over the floor. We have hardwood floors that have been ruined.
Viking knows of this problem but has done nothing to correct it. The refrigerator is out of warranty so now we have to deal with this. I will never buy another Viking product again.

I have owned a Viking built-in 48-inch side-by-side unit with ice and water dispenser for 6 years. This has topped the list of bad decision I have ever made. The ice and water dispenser has been repaired at least half a dozen times and it would have been more had I not adjusted my expectations and level of tolerance. I now unclog the ice dispenser at least once a week by sticking my fingers up inside the out spout or opening up the ice drawer and moving the dispenser mechanism that way. I also have to keep a finger behind the water dispenser push plate to make sure it moves forward so the water does not overflow and cover my floor when I pull a glass away. I have just given up calling Viking and getting someone out at $75 a visit and have been putting up.
Approximately 2 years ago, my 42 inch side-by-side with water dispenser unit stopped cooling. Yet another part needing replacement (serpentine coil) and as you would expect the spoiled food was my problem. I am currently having a cooling problem again and the answer (which is now recurring) is you are out of warranty. Also, the customer service representative I spoke to made it clear that she was the only one I could speak to and her answers were final said in the nicest way but firm. I finally got Viking to agree to pay for the parts (circuit boards needed to be replaced at $700. I believe they had been replaced once before) and I paid (as usual) for the labor. So equally in a nice way, I am saying I truly believe that Viking has let me down.
Now, we have a recall for the door hinges as the doors might fall off. I called immediately and scheduled the parts to be delivered. It finally got done months later. You would have expected Viking would know the number of parts they would need. Perhaps they thought not everyone would call. With two small children opening these very heavy doors, you can imagine how anxious we were to get this corrected.
I feel it is important to make sure everyone knows my story since spending $7,000.00+ on a refrigerator plus $2,000.00 for the panels should entitle the buyer to an excellent experience. My suggestion is until Viking starts to produce a unit that truly works as good as a $500, one you can get at the local appliance store, look else ware. Just my opinion.

I purchased a Viking Refrigerator and had it installed in December of 2006. Thankfully, I put the unit under a 5-year extended warranty. I have had nothing but problems with this unit. The unit leaks water onto the floor. They have replaced the evaporator fan, the thermistor, repaired seals around the freon lines, replaced the power board, high voltage board and low voltage board. They are coming again to replace the drain pan kit. Different diagnosis every time they come but the same problem continues to occur.
In addition, because of the excess moisture in the unit, I have a continual problem with mold growth inside my refrigerator. Just what everyone want - air born mold circulating around their food. I have contacted an attorney and am exploring if I have enough information to file a claim. This unit is a lemon and should be replaced. I tried to talk to Viking about replacing the unit and have gotten no where.
Poor quality product for a very high price. After reading about many similar problems I wonder how Viking continue to get away with this. Has anyone pursued a Class Action Suit against Viking?

This is newer version of my problem. We have Viking refrigerator that we paid almost 7000 dollars 4 years ago. We had service for this product seven times first two years. We also had Viking Oven problem two times within a year and fixed it but it makes loud sound when baking. They replaced the whole freezer door to fix the problem at the end but the seal of the door is still a problem and it does not close completely. The door seal is not good and the 2 side by side doors are not flushed. They are not straight. They are recalling the same model and year refrigerator right now according to the Consumer Affairs but the Viking said our made date is different (3 month difference). It's the same year, same model, same size with the recalled item and they can't do anything about it.
We have another bigger problem and that is with the mother board (or computer board to make the cool air to the compressor) and our refrigerator is not functioning right now. We can't eat at home for last few weeks and Viking said it's not cover under warranty (warranty is two years) so we have to pay $600-$1000 to fix this problem. Maybe the loose door seal caused this problem because the door does not shut completely causing the refrigerator working harder to make the mother board go bad faster or it could be just a defected computer mother board.
We had so many service calls and having problems with this refrigerator for many years and it's affecting our lives so big and we can't believe we still have problems. We feel cheated and very frustrated and angry for the Viking appliances and company's customer service. They said they can't help us at all. This is not right. We can't afford to pay this much money for the defective product and if problems keep happening, we have to keep spending a lot of money to fix it. We can't trust this product and it can happen again. If the warranty of this part is only two years even if we replace the part this time, it could break again after few years. It's only 4 years old and we are afraid other problems could happen. But at least Viking should help us fix this problem instead of avoiding. We are finding out about the lemon law to protect the consumers like us. We are gathering information about the consumer laws and looking for people to help us.
It's three times more expensive than other American brands and supposed to be a very good quality appliance. At least, a better customer service. I hope someone could help consumers like us. We'll keep looking for the ways to win over this matter. I can't believe this great country can be this unfair for the consumers like us. We just cannot believe this. This will hurt everybody including the Viking's image. I can't believe the company like Viking can be this unfair and unreasonable and irresponsible. I really think that Viking has to consider a better customer service than this. We are going to fight with this matter until we find help for this defective appliance to be replaced or fixed.

In December 2005, I purchased Viking products from the professional line to complete a remodel in my kitchen. This included a 42" refrigerator/freezer (VCSB423), a 36" stove/oven (VDSC3676) and a separate single oven (VESO107CSS). They were installed by a Viking Certified installation company Executive Appliance Services in May 2006. I have had nothing but trouble with the freezer unit and stove top. The same problems continue to occur, and the products are no longer under warranty. By August of 2006 I was forced to make my first call for repair, and eight subsequent calls have been made. The following is a list of dates and reasons for repair calls:
5/07, Ice maker working improperly/new deli service kit installed, Executive Appliance Services
7/07, Spark modules replaced on stove unit, Executive Appliance Services
9/07, Ignition wires replaced with new model on stove unit, Executive Appliance Services
12/07, New ice maker and water valve installed, Executive Appliance Services
4/09, Auger motor re-secured in ice maker, Executive Appliance Services
5/09, Burner bases and bodies replaced on stove, Sues Young and Brown
3/10, Burner bases/ ignition cleaned because of intermittent clicking, Sues Young and Brown
4/10, Ice maker checked after freezer door not sealed properly, Appliance Masters of Southern California, Inc.
Each time a repair technician was called out in 2007, a "new part" was available to fix a design flaw in the ice maker and ignition system in the stove. This tells me that Viking knew it had produced substandard products, and there were enough complaints to necessitate the development of "fixes." Due to what I consider to be Viking's excellent reputation, I allowed the continued parade of repair technicians through my kitchen to finally get what I had expected: a stove and a refrigerator/freezer that would service my family. What I have are appliances that are sucking me dry of my high school teacher's salary on a regular basis. I did not take advantage of the "Lemon Law" in California because each time repairs were made, I believed that would be the last time a technician would be needed.
I am extremely disappointed in the quality and durability of my Viking appliances. I should not have to feel cautious when cooking nor relieved when each item lasts one more month without having to make a repair call. I spent a great deal of money to have the kitchen of my dreams; one that would allow me to practice my culinary skills and look great as well. I deeply regret not researching my kitchen appliances more carefully. I now believe that I let my vanity get the better of me, and I am stuck with an intermittently functioning kitchen for many years to come. I would never consider buying another Viking appliance nor recommending it to friends and family.
Several calls have been made to Viking Headquarters in Mississippi looking for a permanent solution to the issues in my kitchen. While Charlotte ** was kind enough to give me a free repair call in March 2010 to service the stove, no acceptable solution has been reached that will prevent future problems. Although I would dearly love to replace my kitchen appliances with more reliable ones, I cannot afford to do so, nor should I have to. I would like for Viking to take care of the cost of any and all future repair calls regarding the problems that have existed in the past. I would also like to sit down face-to-face in my kitchen with the head of Viking Corporation to discuss the above repair issues.

Travelling a lot, I had the opportunity to see a lot of announcement from Viking, and so I decide to buy a VORD 144DSS model, a fridge model VGSB 152TLSS, a frigobar model VUAR 143CRSS, and a plate model VGGT 240. I spent my entire vacation (30 days) with the both fridges whistling, sweating, and staining on the outside. The plate become rusted, and after anything we had grilled appeared again the rust stains, even with a diary cleaning.
The Brazilian technical assistance were in place 3 times, each time with a different story, until the last, more honest, told me that the thermostat will have to be changed. Now, at the end of my holidays, after 60 days, the thermostats have been replaced, which solve a part of my fridge problems (the doors are still stained). About the plates, they said that it needs 120 days to be changed. I find that this deadline is absurd, that’s why I ask for an urgent exchange.

Let's see. Where do I begin? Seven months without a fridge, three different repair companies, numerous phone calls to Viking, and unanswered messages from Carl Schaedel and Co., Inc. It first started out with the fridge warming up, and then 2 weeks later, the freezer quit. In the meantime, we called Viking, and they pushed us off to Carl Schaedel and Co., Inc., and they never answered (after calling a lot). We called Viking again, they then gave us a local repair company to use. This repair company was awful. They came 5 times and never could find the problem. Viking sent a 2nd company out. He found the problem, but Carl Schaedel and Co., Inc. took 3 weeks to ship the parts. The 2nd company fixed it and told us we should be receiving a new fridge because of the botched up job the 1st repair company did to it.
Then, a recall on the hinge of the door. I called the recall #, and the parts for the hinge were back-ordered 3-5 weeks. The parts were shipped to me after 4 weeks. A 3rd repair company was sent in to repair the hinge. It is now not even a week later since the hinge was repaired and now the door doesn't shut. I called Viking and told them we've been very patient (7 months), and the customer service rep told us to use a cooler. We said we wanted a new fridge, and they refuse because it can be fixed. I use the term "fixed" loosely. Our next step is the Attorney General. We told them we were doing that, and it didn't faze them at all. So, everyone, please file a complaint. They need to be stopped. I have a Viking Range too that doesn't light and a dishwasher that has a panel that is coming off.

I have a 48 Viking, Pro Series refrigerator. About 3-4 years into service, small cracks started to appear in the plastic mullion that serves to separate the freezer section from the refrigerator section. At this poing, the cracks have increased in size and the problem is no longer just cosmetic.
As a result of the crack, the refrigerator door will not remain closed and the cooing system has developed a leak. I am told that the crack cannot be repaired and that if I replace the coiling element that are leaking (at a cost of $1400-1500), the work is guaranteed for only 3 months and that the problem will most likely recur. In addition, the cracks in the mullion cannot be repaired. Viking states that the unit is out of warantee.
Upon further investigation, I have learned that there is a heating strip that runs behind the mullion that most likely cause the crack to form. As such, this leads to the suspecion that this is a design flaw and as such, perhaps others are having the same problem.
