Viking's price point was within our target range so we decided to go with them. The Viking dealer was good. The product looks cool and people think it looks cool too. The quality is fair but I’ve got some issues and I’m hopeful that those will be fixed.

We were renovating a house ten years ago and the Viking refrigerator was going to fit in to the architectural design better than anything else because it was a built-in. The Viking dealer we dealt with was courteous and friendly. But my Viking refrigerator failed. It had an uneven box or something was wrong with its door, so Viking had to replace it. It was out of warranty so they gave me a new unit at half-price. At that point, they also offered to give me a freezer at a half-price, which I did take. But there are now icicles in the freezer. There's a leak that they can't fix. So I'm waiting for Viking to call because it looks like they're going to have to replace the freezer again.
The service is fine but the wait is crappy. The service takes a while because there aren't enough techs in the area. Maybe the service tech is servicing such a large area that it's a long wait time to get somebody to come and look at the machine. They've got one service guy in Northern Illinois who services the Milwaukee area. So they're hard to schedule. I'm frustrated because their products are so expensive. I have not had the best experience.

I had nothing but headaches with my Viking Refrigerator because of the little thing at the top for ventilation. The guy installed it too far to one way. He acted like he knew what he was doing and as though it was no problem. He took the tape off, and put it all the way to the right when it should’ve been centered up. The guy from Pac Sales says they’re not going to do anything about it. I said, “I’m an older person. I can’t take it off.” We’ve got to pull the refrigerator out and the thing at the top.
My real dilemma is that they want me to take it off, take it down to the store and get the new one to put it back on. The lady says, “Well, why don’t you hire a handyman to do that?” I go, “A handyman? That’s gonna cost me money to have a handyman take this off.” I felt very dissatisfied with that situation. I like the refrigerator and how it’s keeping certain things cold. It's roomy with lots of different compartments. It's really nice and looks beautiful. My favorite feature would be the ice deal because I can just scoop it out. But I’m having a problem with the filler thing, that I feel I’ve been gypped. I should’ve been more assertive towards the salesman and the others. I was lost in the delivery and now I’m at odds with them to have it fixed. Viking should have some very faint lines from the top of the refrigerator where they should’ve had the insert.

I wanted to get a very solid looking refrigerator, but it needed to fit in the existing space, which was a little tricky. I had a choice between Viking and one other. But I liked the way the Viking French door refrigerator looks, the layout, and the fact that it fit in the slot. The dealer has been excellent but they only delivered to the garage and they don't do the installation for liability reasons, at least from Mount Vernon location. So I had to hire someone to install the fridge. One issue that I find that in the refrigerator section is if I've got lettuce or something near the back, the fridge will freeze it. So I just turned down the temperature in the refrigerator to see if that would do it and so far, it's working fine. I like my Viking refrigerator - it's very solid, looks well-made and has a nice warranty.

We purchased Viking appliances when we remodeled our kitchen 6 years ago. The oven, stove have not presented any problems. However the built in freezer and refrigerator, which looked beautiful, have had problems too many to count. The freezer had a leak, within 1 year, which caused an ice build up at the bottom of the freezer which caused the door to jam. This was finally resolved after 2 years of service calls. Now the built in refrigerator is leaking on my hardwood floors due to a cracked vertical drain and the parts to repair it have been back ordered for 5 weeks now and still on back order. I have to replace a towel under the unit every day so that my hardwood floors will survive. However I do not know the condition of the floors under the unit.

Viking was what the builder was providing as appliances, so we went ahead and bought the Viking fridge to match. The installers didn’t put the basket straight in the freezer so I had to figure that out. I had to go to one of the other houses and look at their fridge to see how to do it. The builder also gave me the wrong fridge. It’s the one with the water feature inside. They gave me an upgrade but we liked to have cold water coming out of our fridge, so that’s the only thing we miss. Other than that it’s been great. I love the freezer in the bottom and the double door where I could put big stuff in. That’s what I've always wanted. Plus the crisper is really good. It's a very reliable product.

I’ve used Viking for several years. I’ve had a 16-inch Viking range in one house and had some other Viking and Jenn-Air appliances as well. But I've always gone back to Viking. My wife likes them because the big Viking ranges have removable inserts so when we spill and things flow over on the gas ranges, we lift the grating off and then there’s a pan that we can lift out on the older ones that makes it much easier to clean. But in my current house, I bought a Viking surface gas range and it’s a pain in the ass because I can’t pull those pans out to clean them.
I also have a non-built in refrigerator and I had it drop shipped to my house. I unpacked it, installed it myself, set it all up, and it’s perfect. I like the LED lighting in them. It's just a nice touch to it when I open the doors. Also, the handles have a substantial feel which at times, feel a little better than industrial feel. Others are still in boxes and they’re waiting to be installed. One’s a built in refrigerator, built in freezer, and a built in wine cooler. And I have a construction project going on right now so they’re not going to be installed for another four weeks if all goes smoothly.
One of the reasons I’ve gone overboard with Viking is because when I went a local supplier where I’m at to look at Viking and they didn’t stock them any more They said, “Well, we actually just had to pull them out because we don’t do enough business here. Viking is consolidated per dealership network." And so I called another dealer and they said, “Yeah. We’ve been buying up all the demo Viking stuff and Viking bought stuff from other dealers ‘cause they’ve gone through a dealer consolidation." So I ended up going to a dealer in Dallas, Texas and buying most of my Viking appliances from them. We got a really good discount because they had been buying up inventory from other dealerships in this consolidation so my timing was right.
Nonetheless, I spent over $20,000 but I've got three refrigerators, a wine cooler, two stove tops, one gas, one induction, and one Viking wall oven and two Viking warming drawers. My wife absolutely loves the wall oven because they’re French doors, and she’s short. She’s burned herself on oven doors trying to reach into the oven to pull things out and so those French doors are phenomenal for short people because they can get right into the oven without having to reach over the door when they open the door down in a conventional oven. I've already recommended them to a couple of friends that were remodeling their kitchens. I even told them where to go and a couple of dealerships that I worked with that gave really good pricing.

Thank you for feedback, Viking is so glad to hear you are happy with your new product and that your wife now has a more user friendly oven for her height. We also appreciate the recommendations that you are making to your friends.

When we remodeled the house two years ago, we put in all Viking appliances because they were cheaper. Then about a month ago, I got a new fridge from Viking as a warranty replacement. I'm not happy about the replacement fridge because the one that I had before was better quality. The quality of the stainless steel of this new one is very marginal. Everything is on the stainless such as fingerprints. Viking also didn't give me options for a water dispenser. Furthermore, it was a very long process to get it replaced. I got the phone call in March and the fridge was eventually replaced in August. The refrigerator that came was damaged with shipping, so they took it out and had to put it all back again. The installers were also not very educated about the product. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

Viking Refrigerators came in with the house that we bought. My ref is the double-door open and I love that I can open both doors and see everything. There's no division and I can put whatever I want in the refrigerator part. And I like the presence of it. I also have a Viking range and a Viking dishwasher and I love my range. However, I'm very unhappy because the seal on my freezer drawer does not seal. I have someone who will be looking into it. Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic with them.

We purchased all new Viking Appliances from Pacific Sales in Santa Barbara. Within 1 year we threw out the Viking dishwasher and replaced it with a Bosch. Within 5 years we had about a dozen services on the Viking built-in refrigerator due to leaking water and icing up in the freezer. We are extremely disappointed with Viking products. We spent about $1500 on the dishwasher and $7,300 on the refrigerator. I would strongly discourage anyone from buying Viking products. We are about to buy a new refrigerator and it certainly will NOT be a Viking and we will not be buying our refrigerator from Pacific Sales due to their lack of customer support. Not only that but when Pacific Sales originally delivered the appliances their truck smashed a wall in our entry driveway. It took us a couple of months and many complaints to multiple levels of management to get them to fix the wall - and after all of our efforts they would only pay for half of the damages.

Please be assured that our top priority is to ensure you receive the best service and product possible. As a result of these efforts we are standing behind our products with an industry-leading warranty and would be more than happy to fully support any warranty repairs in accordance with the terms of warranty.

The ice cube crusher/cube maker has broken twice. The first time it was still under warranty but it took over a month for the company to send a repairman. The second time that the ice crusher/cube maker broke, it was 'just' out of warranty. The very rude Viking phone representative said that the part (ice cube tray with auger) was back ordered for over 3 months due to the faulty design of the unit noting that the plastic parts keep breaking. The cost of this plastic until was ~$450.00!!! We reinstalled it and it still doesn't work. What a 'piece of **'. I would never recommend purchasing this "professional" refrigerator/freezer. DO NOT PURCHASE!!!

I've followed Viking for a long time as a designer. It impacted my decision to use Viking in my new home because they were one of the few companies that offered an electric conduction range. Due to the culmination of appearance and features, I bought a suite of appliances from Viking and I'm very pleased with its quality thus far. I like that the fridge looks very much like a built-in model, the freezer compartment is down below, and the French door style has three tiers.
Unfortunately, I hadn't been too pleased with the Viking dealer I went through. Back in June when I purchased the kitchen suite, that company was offering a promotion for Viking. I wished Viking were not in the middle of a transition or supply issue because it has caused some back orders which is really unfair to the consumers, especially someone like me that paid for everything upfront in June. As of September, I still don't have all my items. I felt like that was the wrong time to be offering that promotion. They have wonderful products but they lack follow-through.

But it keeps my beer cold and that's all I care about. Overall, I had an excellent experience.

We replaced the Viking refrigerator that had gone bad after about 15 years or so. We have Viking appliances in the kitchen and wanted to stay with them so we got from them the new fridge that’s quiet, well-designed and very functional. I like its LED lighting too. We bought the fridge through the plumbing supply place, Grand Junction, Colorado. They've been great there and do a nice job but it was a little bit of a hassle getting it installed because they don’t do installation so I had to get a secondary couple of guys to come in and help me install it. Other than that, I had a very positive experience with them and everything went fine.

We went for a Viking refrigerator instead of other brands because of the configuration of the appliance. Some of them didn't have the ice maker and water dispenser on the outside and that's what we were looking for, basically an upright side by side. Overall, the Viking refrigerator has been very good but we had a problem with the ice maker. We had a technician come out three times until they finally got it fixed, and it's working fine now. I like the room in the refrigerator and the freezer, as well as the overall appearance and the way they organized it.

We moved into a new house and my wife originally wanted a Sub-Zero but we couldn’t afford that so she decided that the Viking was the coolest looking, most durable, best line of refrigerators to look at. We got a new model and we’re really happy with it overall. We like its look and the solid feel. However, there were just a few cosmetic problems with it. It was a new model and they hadn’t worked out the bugs. When they installed the handles on it for all the different doors, screwing the screws too hard puts a dent in the stainless steel. But if they don’t do it hard enough, they loosen and start falling off. Also, there’s a bar handle and these connectors that they have to screw on don’t match the surface of the fridge very well. When they put it on, there’s an 8th or 16th of an inch gap between that little thing and the handles if they don’t put it on right. They finally figured out how to do it and got new parts.
We’ve had to have the repair guys come out four times for those handles and ended up replacing a whole front piece of the refrigerator. The freezer is the one that we got to pull right from the middle. If we pull from the side, it screws it up. We were pulling it right and it just came out. Their staff didn’t give us any hassle. In fact, the last time the handle pulled of, it was past the one year but they always call someone to come out and fix it which we really appreciate. They kept doing whatever it took to get it right. The last guy that fixed it put some super-duper glue where the screw goes in and since then, everything is good but we had to go through all that rigmarole. Viking needs to work out the handle for this model and make sure when people put it on, it doesn’t dent the surface stainless steel because that takes away the beauty of the whole thing.

When we bought the house, we requested for Viking appliances. We wanted to get the big 42-inch refrigerator but our realtor failed to tell us at the last minute that they ordered a 36-inch model instead. But even though it's not the model I liked, I love its quality. The aesthetics, as far as the door hinges, doesn’t get in my way. It was well-thought out and well-engineered. I also like the option that the temperature is different in certain compartments. However, I don't like the freezer part. As far as the stovetop, we had a choice in that. We got the eight-burner stove and it is phenomenal. It also has a conventional oven built in. All in all, I like Vikings appliances because I can buy a certain model and it has options that come along with it.

We built a new home last year and we liked the Viking products that we’ve had in our other home. The quality of the refrigeration from Viking is great. My friends introduced me to Viking Refrigerators and we specifically bought this brand because we heard how good they were, but now I feel that their customer service is terrible. I've only had my refrigerator for not even a year and it broke four times now and it has taken at least two to three weeks to get it fixed every single time. Nobody at the Viking dealer would pick up the phone, so it was hard to get in touch with somebody. When I finally do, the only way somebody would call me back is if I was rude and talked to the manager at the place that I called. It was a horrible experience. I couldn't be more upset about it. I was told that the door would keep breaking at the part where they fixed it, and that I won't get a new refrigerator. I would trade this refrigerator right now if I could afford to.

We bought a new house and all the appliances in it were from Viking. A lot of our friends with high-end homes also have either Viking, Sub-Zero or Wolf, and a lot of them are getting serviced. I also had a lot of problems with the first refrigerator, and when I would call up Viking, people picked up right away. Carter's Appliances, one of their authorized repair contractors, came out to service, and they were awesome and super-nice, and came out right away. They had to come out a bunch, but they were great.
However, we had to throw out about $800 worth of food because the problems happened three or four different times. They had to change the motherboard in the ref. Then the bottom of the refrigerator, where the coils are, kept freezing. The ref also had a problem where there was so much ice, so the coils got pushed into the plastic, then the ice started melting, and all the food had a smell to it. It was frustrating to deal with Viking about this, but they did replace the ref. They gave me a new one, and that's been perfect. I like the pizza box storage on the bottom.

We had a lot of problems with our old refrigerator. It was a nightmare so I didn't want to buy that same band. I wanted an American made refrigerator so I went through a whole lot of options. We owned other Viking appliances so we looked at them at a store. We bought the Viking ref from an appliance store in Minneapolis. They were very nice. They didn't scratch it during the delivery and the delivery guys were very friendly. There were no issues. The Viking ref is not a regular refrigerator. It's built in so it fits a very specific size and it matches the cupboard, so it can't be easily thrown away. You got to fix them. Another thing I really like about it is I installed it myself and bolted it into the wall. They gave me the directions and showed me where and how to bolt it into the wall. It has a lot of nice lighting.
My wife noticed that it doesn't get any mold in it because it has an ozone generator so she doesn't have to sit and clean it up. That is the absolute best feature of the Viking ref. The old ref was always moldy and yucky inside and we hated it. There was no egg holder in the door of the Viking ref. They provided a closed egg container where one had to take it up the shelf, open the cover and take an egg out. That was just a pain. So I made really nice trays that sit in my doors. Viking might want to consider doing that because the other company did that.
The ice maker tends to run too much ice that it overflows. When you open up the door it dumps the ice out into the cabinet. But that is little bit of a pain compared to my old refrigerator. It's interesting because it's the same exact brand of ice maker my old ref uses. They should improve their icemaker because they buy it from the ice maker company. I hope that Viking is better, but I don’t hold that hope. The most important thing will be to determine how long it lasts without giving us any trouble. They were a good company. We're very happy with the refrigeration from Viking.

And the more I talked to people about it, the reputation has really turned bad like Viking is pretty poorly made now. We were told that Viking was the second best among appliance companies. We couldn't afford the best, which would be Wolf. Wolf would've been probably double the cost. Viking had good reviews and their products look good. We went to Trail Appliances, the distributor, and the salesperson showed the Viking products to us. We liked the products and bought several appliances in the same make, including a gas stove, convection oven, and dishwasher.
Trail Appliances tested the refrigerator before they left. There was a problem with it, so they didn't install it. They replaced it immediately. It was really good that they tested it. Other dealers just put the appliance in, then you find out that it doesn't work. So far, the Viking refrigerator that we got is really good, and I'm happy with it. We like its looks. Everybody's complimented me on it. It works better than my previous refrigerator. I like the excellent ice maker. We'll need that in the summer. I went with a Viking range, so I figured I might as well make it all the same brand so I got the refrigerator. Now we're regretting it to a certain degree. It was installed in November of last year and since then, we’ve had the repair guy out here three times already. So we’re not too pleased with that. One issue is that it doesn’t seem to make ice. We have to go out and purchase ice and put it in the dispenser. A guy checked and replaced the part, but a week after, the dispenser is not even filled halfway. We just had one or two levels of ice.
Last month, the tech also came out because the refrigerator was above 60 degrees, and we had to trash most of the food that was in there. The condenser was all frozen, so he took the whole thing apart from the freezer section ‘cause that’s where the condenser’s located and had to unfreeze everything. I asked him if this is a common issue with these refrigerators and he said the higher-end seem to have the same issue and they're constantly replacing these parts. So that was not a good experience.
The repair people are nice and do a great job. They could only fix the refrigerator so many times before the thing goes out again. The refrigerator looks nice, and our son says that it’s the biggest smallest refrigerator he has seen because it looks huge but when he opens it up, it's small on the inside. But it's a downer. We bought refrigerators in the past from other dealers and we’ve never had issues like these before. For a unit that we paid over $10,000, that’s not good.

Thank you for your feedback, we will look further into this situation.

Aside from the dimension of a Viking refrigerator, we also liked the look and had heard good things about the brand. Initially, I was very happy with it but I'm disappointed that the ice maker and the whole control board broke. I had a refrigerator repairman here to look at it and that's going to be $1,600 to repair. I could buy a whole new refrigerator for that. So we’re happy with the way it works. Also, their team went efficiently and the installation was adequate. However, we didn’t like the fact that we couldn’t get the refrigerator fully clad in stainless steel. We had to go out and get panels. My Bentley doesn't give me this type of trouble. It's worth a lot more money but it's on the same par. It's that type of quality we're expecting. Nevertheless, our experience with the dealer was great. They've been great. I think they're Viking-approved repair people trained by Viking. They came on a timely fashion but I expected the problems to be fixed.

We did a kitchen update through a local company here in Columbia called DKB Kitchen Design. As part of our package, we had originally purchased a GE refrigerator. We had real serious problems and couldn't get any satisfaction with the GE refrigerator. We went back to DKB and explained the problems we were having and documented it for them. They volunteered to take our problematic GE refrigerator back and trade for a Viking Refrigerator.
The Viking refrigerator has been doing the job but if I had one issue to complain about, it’s the icemaker. I tell our guests not to put a glass under the icemaker because the ice comes out so hard that I’m afraid it’ll shatter the glass. I contacted Viking about that at first and I got some cryptic response about how we can have a serviceman come out and look at it. And I told them I don’t think a serviceman can change the design of the icemaker. But other than that, we've had it for a year now and we've never had service issues unlike with the last GE refrigerator. It also matches all the other Viking appliances that we have. It does what it’s supposed to do.

I bought a Viking refrigerator due to the warranty on it. It works fine and I like its aesthetic features. However, I don't like the filters since they need to be replaced more often than I would like. Also, I made superficial dents in the bottom freezer drawer. It’s not noticeable, but I have to replace that single front panel so that I could get rid of it. The panel costs $1,650, which is more than half the cost of the entire refrigerator. Viking uses an outside manufacturer for that piece, and they’re ripping anybody who needs to replace that because they figured they need it. It's absolutely absurd and highly annoying that it’d cost that much money to fix the little dent.

I like my Viking refrigerator, and its style. It fits my needs with all the drawers it has. I like that the freezer doesn’t dry things out and there’s never a freezer burn. When I put something in it, it does not taste like the refrigerator. Also, the ice never tastes funny. I don’t care how old the ice is. It’s perfect. Those are the important things. However, the drawers were cracked. I had a bottle of soda explode in it, and it flows on the top shelf. It’s leaking, and there are only two of us living in the house so it’s not from overuse or abuse. The repairmen have been coming out fixing everything, and the drawers are now fixed and the leak is gone. When we have a problem, we call the dealer and they send someone out, and now they escalated it so someone from Viking comes out. They’re responsive.

We had a custom kitchen built in Texas that I’ve had Viking products. Of the high-end brands, they were the least expensive and they were very reliable. But the quality of their refrigerator is not great at all. I would’ve been better off going to Home Depot. We’re on our third fridge from Viking. The first fridge we bought, we were told that it was a floor model, brand new, so we bought that one. It was shipped to us and we installed it. Three months later it broke. I called the Viking service tech. There is only one service tech in the Colorado area, so it took a while for him to get to me. He opened up the back of the fridge and said that it is a used fridge and it’s not under warranty. He looked up the serial number and he found out that that fridge was actually already warrantied by Viking and it was supposed to be destroyed.
Then Viking West Coast and Viking East Coast, the two corporate offices got into a pissing match on who was responsible for it. So we were caught in the middle of food that wasn’t cold… while they tried to figure out who was gonna warranty it because Viking West Coast said it’s already been warrantied and it's not their problem because we bought it from an East Coast dealer. It eventually got up to one of the VPs at Viking corporate and they said Viking East Coast will take care of it.
They sent me a replacement refrigerator that the shipper dropped off the back of the truck. And then we rejected that fridge. Then they told us, “I’m sorry but that was the last fridge in North America.” The next fridge was on a set of containers coming over from China. And that’s when I found out that Frigidaire made their fridge. I told them I’m not paying an extra thousand dollars for a Frigidaire then. We eventually got one that was supposed to be going to one of their preferred dealers to market. It was a new fridge - a new model, because they weren’t making the old model anymore. And it’s been working ever since.

I hoped they would have known a little bit more about the refrigerator so I can try to troubleshoot, instead of me trying to call 1-800 number since I had a little trouble at the beginning. It wasn't cooling properly, but I called it in and they came. And it's working fine now.

I like that I have a refrigerator and freezer side-by-side, but I'm not happy with Viking. My builder bought the refrigerator and it was in a bad condition. It was recently repaired because it made noises and water condensed inside it. Now, it makes a terrible noise when the vent is on. Viking is supposed to be the highest quality of appliances in the market, but I am very unsatisfied with all these issues with our brand new appliances. With all the money that we paid for and all the problems that we have, it was annoying and disappointing. The refrigerator is now working like it’s supposed to be, but it was supposed to be good since the beginning and did not show any problems or issues.

The product performance and durability of Viking refrigerators led me to purchase from them. However, I’m very disappointed and frustrated because I have a French door refrigerator, and it is accumulating a lot of ice all the time. The service in Rio de Janeiro, where I live, is very poor. There’s only one authorized dealer that does customer service and he never has the time. He advised me to change the seal rubber that goes on the door, which I did, but the problem continued. I told him this, but there was no response. I was about to write a letter to Viking because this is unacceptable. I’m also not very happy with my experience with the dealer. They sold me one model and they delivered another. I had to keep the one they sent me but I want the model that I purchased. But since they refused to change it, I ended up having received a penalty from them.

It has a really nice ice maker, too. The lighting is beautiful on the inside, it is bright. The quality of refrigeration is great. It keeps the vegetables and fruits cold in the compartment. We were looking for a new refrigerator and I looked online and found out that Viking was the leader in kitchen appliances but nobody seemed to really know anything about their refrigeration. Then we went to a couple of places here in town, I researched it on their website and we fell in love with their ref so, we ordered it. This is my first Viking appliance. I had heard of Viking in the restaurant business and people seemed to be impressed. The quality of the product is excellent. The space is perfect. For the size that it is, it holds a lot of food and we're really happy. When we build the new house, I'll probably buy two Viking refrigerators.
The only problem we had, and this seems to be not specific to Viking, were the people. We like trying the new things on the market but things that last, and so, we were very pleased with this purchase. But the salespeople weren't prepared. There's more of a market here in San Diego but their salespeople just weren't ready to sell it. Either they were too busy or weren’t educated. When we find something that we want, we usually are more educated than the sales people and that seems to be the case with their people. It's something that could still be improved.

We bought this unit in 2005 for a new kitchen with all new appliances. My problems with this unit are numerous and varied. At first we noticed that the interior plastic parts, such as drawers broke easily. These are very expensive and there is a real gap between the cost and the apparent value of the parts. Next, mechanical and electrical parts began to break down. We needed a small fan, available online for $8 and that took all of 10 minutes to replace, that cost several hundred dollars. We have had sensors go bad for similar costs to repair, and now the freezer won't get cold enough to allow the ice maker to produce ice. I would never buy from Viking again. Their products are flimsy and delicate despite the high price. I am willing to pay more for quality, but I didn't get that quality at Viking.

He told me to try it out and that if I didn’t like it, they would take it back. The refrigerator was making a noise and that was bothering me. We had a GE for 16 years and it was fantastic so when I started hearing the noise, I figured I made a mistake. We have called somebody to come and check it out, but they said everything was okay. I don't know if they adjusted something but after that, it’s been working pretty good. I like the bottom drawers of the refrigerator. It’s like a long drawer and has a nice size since I can put a lot of stuff in there.
On the other hand, the toe grille was not put in properly. One side is lower on the floor and the other one is higher. Even though we try to screw it in, it doesn't do anything and it just keeps coming down. I was thinking of calling the other day about that because it was bothering me. But other than that, I'm very happy with my Viking. I haven't had any problems yet and I have it almost for a year now at the end of August.

A Viking fridge was part of our home purchase. We were able to pick out the refrigerator that we prefer within some limitations. We could pick the fridge with or without the ice dispenser on the door but we couldn't really change the size because we've already locked in the design of the cabinet. Still, we had the option of picking one from three different vendors. I like the size and the overall layout of the one we ended up with.
The quality of refrigeration is okay, however, there's a lot of temperature differential within the interior of the refrigerator - the top shelf might be 34 degrees and the bottom shelf might be 41 degrees. The reason I know the temperature now is because the temperature that it was set to wasn't anywhere close to what it actually was. Hence I bought a little wireless thermometer that I could put in the refrigerator to tell me in real time what the temperature was. Just from putting that in different places in the refrigerator, I found that there's more difference in temperature than I would've expected. I haven't worried as much about the freezer although we had a number of service issues. With these service issues, it took three or four service calls to finally get the problem sorted out.

We were remodeling our house and I needed a bigger refrigerator. Viking was one of the better ones on the market so we got their 48-inch refrigerator. We also ended up getting all Viking appliances (a range, a hood, and a stove) because I wanted to stay with the same brand for resale purposes.
However, we’ve only bought the refrigerator in November and in February, the mechanism that defrosts the coils in the freezer went out, and trying to get that fixed was not pleasant. I called Viking on a couple occasions and they said they had three contractors for us but two of them didn’t service refrigerators down in South Florida. The third company sent a guy out and he said he’ll defrost it. I told him we’ve been defrosting it every other day for a month while waiting for him to come out. He said “Well, I got to try this anyway and if it doesn’t work then call us back.” He defrosted it and two days later, it was icing over again. So I called the company back and they said I needed to replace the mechanism that defrosts it. They have it back ordered and I had to wait another month for them to get the part. I spent two months with a $10,000 refrigerator and I had to take a heat gun every other day and defrost the coils in the freezer so I wouldn't lose everything in it.
After the mechanism went out, my husband read on forums that our refrigerator’s issue is a common Viking problem. And the tech they sent out didn’t speak English, which is fine because I speak Spanish. I kept asking, “Well, what is actually the problem?” And he said, “Well, it just needs to be defrosted.” He wanted me to sign all these forms and I said, “Look, I am not paying for this because this should be under my extended warranty that I paid for.” He said I had to sign it and that’s the only time I got him to tell me what he thought was wrong with our fridge. When I had to call back, I told them not to send the same guy but they did. He had no social skills. He didn’t even introduce himself when he showed up and left without saying anything. I had to track him outside the driveway and ask if it was already fixed. He said, “Well, just watch it. If it frosts over again then you’re gonna have to call another service ticket on it.”
Though the Viking dealers were nice and helpful, the service could be way better. The number that I was provided for servicing in my purchase packet was redirecting me to the store so I had to call them and try to find servicing for it. I sat on hold trying to get someone for almost an hour to answer the phone. If I’m gonna be on hold for a long time, they should send my call to a voicemail and call me back. Other than the mechanism going out in less than a year, everything else has worked beautifully. The refrigerator keeps my fruits and vegetables fresher way longer than the last refrigerator we had. I liked that I always have space in it, and I also love the other appliances that we bought. I wouldn’t recommend the refrigerator for the price, but the other appliances, I would.

However, the quality is not the best. Our Sub-Zeros that we replaced were older models and they were built better back then than they are today for both. The temperature is not consistent and some of the settings aren't correct. The freezer will go anywhere from 10 degrees above zero to 10 degrees below zero even set on a fairly high setting. After they fixed it, it worked for about six months. And then I have to always pull the bin out, empty it out, clean it out and put it back in so it could work again. Now it doesn’t work at all. I’ve called Appliance Masters and they’ve been out many times. The repairman comes and he says nothing is wrong with it but I still have an issue. At this point, I have no warranty on it but I need someone to come out and actually fix it. I ordered the part to change it myself. The dealers were nice. But as far as when I emailed them, I got absolutely no response.
I’ve had my dishwasher for seven years and when I turn it on, it runs over three hours and I have to open the door and see if it’s clean or dry. I never know how long it’s supposed to take. I never knew from the beginning because it never ran a full cycle. When I open it, I see all this water and soap in the bottom. I wash my dishes by hand. The water is sitting there. I have to spoon it out or cup it out because it starts to smell after a while. It’s a big issue for me because I’ve never been able to have a full cycle of clean dishes.
When I called this last time to get somebody to help me with my appliances, the repairman told me he gets a negative call every single day and he’s always apologizing to the customers when they call. Consumers like me don’t know who to contact to say their complaint to. The sales guy was telling me that he gets this kind of call every single day. Generally, I’m easygoing and I don’t really like complaining about anything. But when it comes to a point when somebody’s so top-notch, I get very disappointed because of the name.
Viking has a name like Mercedes-Benz. I was thinking I was getting the best and I was very wrong because if Viking was so great, their appliances would work properly. And even if I get a lemon, I understand that at least it could be fixed when someone comes out to check it. I was disappointed. I would not recommend Viking to anybody. I would not recommend the places I called for service for Viking. They just can’t fix it. I used to have a GE and it’s in my garage now. Our Viking refrigerator is huge and the freezer is on the left side while the refrigerator is on the right. My wife, three adult daughters, and I are very careful at home and don’t beat up our kitchen appliances. Good thing I kept the 15-year-old Whirlpool or we would be eating out of a cooler.

Bought the built in refrigerator and freezer. Freezer ice maker kept failing. Had five different people come look at it. No one fixed it each time. I would call back and they would not have any records of the repairs. The freezer door won't close completely leaving ice build up on the inside. Their solution is to push at the top of the door. The hinge is leaning. Their solution... "There is no fix, we can't make that hinge any longer." The refridge is freezing things so had another company come out. They said needed some new compressor. Took everything apart (six months later after they got the parts) and turns out the leak is in the wall of the unit, so it is not repairable. Have to pay 3000 to get a new unit. Now I have a new unit... But cannot find anyone to install it. It is not a slide, the old one out kind of install. Would not recommend Viking to anyone.

I bought 3 Viking appliances for $30,000. Big mistake! I have been so disappointed with them & wished I had read these comments before I purchased these expensive junk appliances. The fridge is only 5 years old and has leaked 3 times which resulted in 3 service calls with 1,000$ in repairs without warranty. Third time leaking & repairman said the motor is shut, the refrigerator coolant is low & there'd ice buildup etc... It's a 3500 fix & I have no warranty. What a waste of money and everyone's time. So pissed off since the fridge is built into our cabinetry. Fridge is turned off. Power off. Can't use it at all now cause it leaks. Poor landfill with all these damaged appliances. What a shame. When our family bought our home we purchased all new Viking kitchen equipment. Double oven, heat warming tray, 2 oversized units, one refrigerators, one freezer, ice machine dishwasher, hood, and 6 burner stove top. Within two years the refrigerator started leaking. We complained to the company we purchased it from and he said it was the seal. They ordered a new one from Viking but what Viking failed to tell them was that the refrigerator we had purchased was one of the first 100 off the assembly line and they had recalled this item.
The continuing leakage from the refrigerator ruined our hardwood floors. We finally had a rep come out and look at the refrigerator and believe it or not we got a new one after this continuing over a year. The ice machine in the freezer went bad so he ordered us a new one while he was there. The ice machine that was self standing the board went out after 4 years and it cost almost as much to fix so we threw it out. Now our freezer only freezes halfway. There is a hole in the condensing coil that they can not locate. Now the refrigerator that was replaced the door keeps catching and it will not close properly. The dishwasher would not drop water after 5 years. Could not figure out why it would not and just ended up throwing that away.

We spent a fortune on our Viking refrigerator in 2008 and have not stopped repairing it since the day it was installed. You name it, it has broken. Sometimes the same part two and three times. Yesterday the entire fridge/freezer stopped cooling - again - and I am sick at the thought of either repairing it again or having to buy a new one. The items that we've repaired or replaced: condenser (twice), fan assembly, compressor (twice), evaporator, door hinges and numerous electrical components. The ice maker went out @ 2 years ago and rather than replace it for @ $600, we've done without ice. In addition, the functional components inside the freezer and refrigerator are both poorly made and ridiculously expensive to fix.
Currently 2 of the 3 sliders to support the crisper drawers are broken and they only have replacements for the left side! Is that nuts or what? We've removed the drawers entirely. No choice, you couldn't put the drawers in anyway. And now no produce can be placed in this area because it freezes solid. The wheels on the freezer tray broke off within 3 years of purchase and I had to rig something up to make it usable. My design is better than the original one - pretty pathetic. Our warranty on parts has been great except for two things: They never have the warranty parts in stock. Can't give you ANY idea when they might be available and you have to pay labor fees for the repairs.
I'm okay with repair fees. At this point, I'm numb about it but I'm incensed that they can't even find or deliver parts they WARRANTY for a $7000 appliance. What's the point of a warranty at all under these circumstances? It's not like you can go 3-4 months without a refrigerator guessing when the parts might arrive. All in all, Viking repair representatives have been polite but display a lack of knowledge about the products. The warranty department and the repair department often tell you two different things and we spend a lot of time going back and forth between the departments. I've written and called Viking senior management for years about this refrigerator and have never, not once, gotten a single response from anyone. To say it's been discouraging is an understatement. I'll never buy Viking again.

Updated on 02/11/2020: I have had Viking appliances for less than five years and have had nothing but problems with every one of them. The refrigerator was so bad that they gave me a new one that was suppose to be redesigned. Well after just a few months I have had nothing but problems with it. I have to make ice cubes in trays!!! The springs break on the doors, top shelf on the right side freezes anything you put on it.
Viking should be ashamed of themselves for ripping people off like this. Now my range will only work at 350f and the control that I need is $1,400.00 for just the part and viking has done away with their service company, now they sub it out to a local repair shop that knows nothing about this line. I am going to buy a new Refrigerator and I will be posting the old one on Youtube when I destroy it with my excavator just to get some satisfaction.
Original Review: I guess I am another dope that bought these appliances without reading the reviews! I thought you get what you paid for but not with Viking appliances. I have the 42" fridge and the 48" range with the griddle option that has not heated up and worked right since day one. The fridge is a complete piece of you know what!!! The ice maker which freezes the water every three months and stops the ice maker from working and has to be thawed is a joke which the repair guy told me it is a known problem but still will not do anything about it.
My floors were also ruined from that problem. The ice will not come out right and gets clogged or you get one cube or 100, no in between but then the rest will come out 10 minutes later on the floor. Spring on door has broke. Now the latest is no water on the door and the high temp alarm keeps going off. We all need to get together and file a lawsuit against Viking because this is just not the way to do things. How do they get away with this? DO NOT BUY ANY VIKING APPLIANCES no matter how nice you think they are!!! You will regret it!!!

Purchased a high end Viking Refrigerator in Oct, 2008 for just under $5,000. In August 2015 it stopped cooling due to a Freon leak. Local appliance repair fixed it temporarily by recharging at a cost of $541. Permanent fix required replacing defective Viking parts that were covered by warranty and ordered on Oct 1st. However labor costs of $1,800 plus tax were NOT covered.
By Nov. 5 the parts had still not arrived. I contacted Viking customer service and got no satisfaction or assurance, so I wrote the COO of Viking a letter with the facts and expressing my dissatisfaction. It takes over 5 weeks to replace defective parts that are covered by warranty! It costs me $1,800 in labor to replace Vikings defective parts! I received NO response whatsoever from the COO or anybody at Viking. Eventually the parts arrived at the end of November and the refrigerator was repaired on Dec 7 -- OVER 2 MONTHS after the parts were ordered! With that kind of quality and their non-existent service, I'll never buy another Viking product and have recommended the same to every person and appliance seller I know.

Purchased Viking 48" wide by side in 2002. Compressor went out within 6 months, thankfully was under warranty. There was a door recall a few years later AND then another recall for those doors! The company that replaced the doors are familiar with Viking fridges and were able to to be somewhat helpful, suggesting we not place anything within 8 inches of any of the interior vents. We have NEVER been able to get the temp right. We have never been able to keep our fruits and veggies in the produce drawers as they become frozen. If we turn the temp down the milk goes bad, etc.
Several of interior the plastic parts have broken under normal use: handle portion of ice maker drawer broke off in my hand, lid of bottom meat/produce drawer snapped off. Now the fridge lights have gone out (all simultaneously.) Try going to the Viking site to find a manual or worse yet parts. Everything there is SO difficult! They sent us a manual and I was able to download two, but none of them show the same control panel as what we have, since when there was a door recall, we received a new control panel as well... I feel sorry for the people that work for Viking. I will never purchase another Viking product. We purchased a high end Thermador range and KitchenAid Micro-Convection oven the same year and have had no problems with those appliances!

No refrigerator for Christmas... I cannot stress enough how badly we have been treated, how much time I have into this and how completely disgusted we are with the "service" for this product. We feel we have been duped thinking we were paying the ridiculous prices for "quality" appliances... Would never consider this brand again. We remodelled our kitchen and bought an undercounter Viking beverage center for our new center island. Arrived in June and about a week later we were finding puddles of water on floor and a lot of condensation on glass door. Several weeks dealing with this problem, we noticed the HA symbol flashing--the alarm inside fridge. The temperature inside the fridge was constantly fluctuating. Were we leaving the door open? We read and followed all troubleshooting steps.
After a can of soda water exploded inside, we decided to give the dealer a call where we purchased the unit. A maintenance man was sent (a company that works for Viking products) diagnosed the problem and ordered a part. A month later, not hearing back, we called and was told Viking does not supply that part for purchase?? What??
The maintenance company told us to call Viking direct, so my husband did and the woman was extremely rude. She told him to have our dealer contact her, so we did. Few days later the dealer (a very reputable kitchen design center) contacted us. She made a marathon of phone calls to Viking and was able to convince Viking to give us a new fridge. Well we received our new fridge 2 weeks ago and guess what? Yes the same problem! Temp goes up and down and now this fridge will not even allow us to set a certain temperature inside the unit.
Also, looking more closely at this unit it almost looks used. Could it be refurbished? The alarm is constantly being displayed with the HA 52 degrees symbol. Here we go again! We call it the HAHA sucker alarm--you guys bought me. Humor is always good but it's really painful considering we paid $3,500 for a beautiful looking but dysfunctional unit.
Also looking closely at this unit it almost looks used. Some little wear inside. Could it be refurbished? Hope not! That would be unethical paying full price.Because of our experience, we do not trust Viking products, especially now reading all of these poor reviews online. We wish we did our homework before buying Viking. We have a 2-year-old full size Subzero refrigerator and now wish we went with their undercounter fridge instead! At this point, we want our money back--I know--DREAM ON!

Professional series Viking refrigerator, range and microwave. What can I say. The fridge has leaked many times and has now ruined my hardwood floor near the fridge. The door racks started cracking within months of purchase and the warranty does not cover those parts. The light in the water/ice dispenser does not work as well. I am told there is a fix for the ice dispenser which is the source of the leaks for over $250 including the service call. I am told (the light bulb is good) that to fix the light switch is another $300 dollars as the whole assembly needs to be replaced.

I bought brand new Viking "Professional" line 48" refrigerator and 48" Oven about 4 years ago. Since this was for a major renovation to our personal home, we decided on what was easily the most expensive appliances we've ever purchased. I liked that they are American Made, and figured that certainly Viking would stand behind their highest end products, and I wouldn't have to wait weeks for replacement parts from overseas (if I ever needed them). What a BAD DECISON! Since installing the Oven, we've had to pay for replacement of the main circuit board in the oven two times.
Now for the Refrigerator: DDSB483DS6. This is the most expensive yet, WORST appliance I have ever purchased. (I'm a builder, remodeler, and property manager- so believe me, I've purchased many refrigerators in my career). The Ice Maker has been replaced twice. The chute where the ice drops from the ice maker to the door does not accept the shape of the ice, so it constantly gets stuck- and definitely DO NOT USE the crushed ice feature as it will freeze and clog this chute! The next hour or so the ice in the chute then melts and drips into the small holding tray which does not drain into the pan below the fridge, so it overflows and runs down the front of the fridge and onto the floor. Further, the pan below the fridge has continuously filled up to overflowing since day 1. To address this we had to create a calendar reminder to empty the pan every 3 days. If not, the water overflows onto the floor!
Needless to say, my wood floor in front of the fridge is completely ruined. Over multiple service calls by the Viking Factory recommended repair company(s) to address this, we've purchased a recommended $500 heater element designed to evaporate the water from the pan, and multiple other expensive suggested repairs- all to no effect! It got to the point that I had a drain tube installed from the pan that leads the water outside the house!
The latest unpleasant experience began in September 2015. The new Viking repair company (exclusive appliance Svce 770-888-9555- they are awesome!) representative came out, saw the issues and determined that there has been a defective gasket within the door. He explained that this is what has been causing the problems all along. We disconnected the water line to the fridge in order to stop the leaking (therefore, no filtered water or ice since September) while we waited for Viking to provide us with the replacement gasket. Furthermore, this representative made a few calls to Viking on our behalf to explain the cause and ultimate damage caused by this defective part. He took and submitted multiple pictures and written explanation of the damaged floor, and filed a claim on our behalf to have Viking pay to repair the damages.
While we waited for the claim to process, the Gasket was finally delivered about 6 weeks later, only to discover that the replacement part was DEFECTIVE as well!! We were then told that the entire manufacturing run of these gaskets are defective, so the new expected delivery date for the new gasket will be 8 weeks later. Ironically, the same day we received this information, the Viking Claims Department contacted me to tell me that Viking had determined that the damage to my floor was not caused by the defective appliance!
LONG STORY SHORT, Viking Appliances are the WORST I have ever owned, and even worse, Viking could not care less, and is apparently unwilling to stand behind their products at all. This is the first review I have ever written on a public forum, but if it helps even one person from suffering through this very expensive, horrible experience, then it was well worth my time.

48" Side-by-Side Refrigerator AND VICU165 - 36" wide cooktop - To say I've been disappointed in Viking products is an understatement. When we began building our house we wanted a great kitchen. We chose Viking professional products. We purchased them about a year or so before we actually installed and moved into our home. Within the first 3 months our water dispenser in the door of the fridge/freezer froze over and completely quit working. We had a repairman come out... it worked for about 3 more months and we have not had water in the door since because we couldn't get anyone out to repair. Within the first 2 years one of the shelves in the door came crashing down when we opened the door. Again, nope, sorry, that's your problem attitude from customer service.
Now, our cooktop is horrible. We have the 36" all induction with 6 burners. We NEVER had all 6 working at one time. We call a Viking, get a repairman out... it works for about 2 weeks. Then we are back to 5. Slowly but surely others started going out. We call, we email, we call some more and finally get someone out there. He "needs parts." He's going to order then come back. No, we never hear from him again. We start calling, emailing, calling again. They send another guy out... he needs some parts. Meanwhile, all of this is taking literally years between the calling and emailing. The burners never get fixed. The last time they sent out a repairman, he again did not return. We called again and were greeted with a sorry, your warranty has expired, it will cost you an insane amount to repair. Right now, we are down to 1 burner that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
I will NEVER purchase Viking again nor will I EVER recommend their products. Pitiful customer service.

I purchased a 36-inch built in fridge and a 36-inch built in freezer several years ago. The fridge broke multiple times as in I have been through distributor service. When they stopped doing service, I went through 3 certified Viking service providers, two of which are no longer Viking reps, one which looked at the model number and refused to work on it, then back to the distributor Gateway Appliance for their advanced service tech multiple time. I had the door hinges, compressed pump, coils, refrigerant lines, all replaced and none of it fixed this piece of junk. It wouldn't cool properly, the back would freeze, then drip water. I couldn't use the bottom drawers, it would cause food to spoil in this wet warm/cold influx. Having severe allergies to mold I had two hospital visits and had to use my EpiPens both times just because I opened the fridge.
Months and months of requesting a new fridge or mine to be repaired properly I was granted my request for a new fridge. Yeah, happy dance right??? Nooo, not in the least. I was assured the new fridge would look exactly like my old one with one exception - the door would be thinner in depth. Get my fridge and by this time the one I have is a mess... not cooling. Oh and I am 2 weeks out from my last hospital ER visit. It's Friday after 5... there is no one I can call. I accept the fridge wondering if I got the wrong model. I call, leave a message to Viking on Monday. The fridge is not remotely the same. The handles are 6 inches different in height, the grill at the top is different, the grill at the bottom is different, the door handle is thicker. Sigh.
Today the guy calls me back... it's been a week. He offers to let me purchase a matching freezer at a discount. Wtf. If the fridge was fixed it would match... so why am I paying $5300.00 more for a matching freezer?? This is a nightmare. $85002+$5300=$22,300 for a fridge and freezer, not including install. I will never buy Viking again and that's a shame because I spent $$$ at Viking. I have 2 Viking microwaves, 3 Viking dishwashers, a Viking trash compactor, a 6-burner Viking range with a griddle and convection ovens, a Viking hood with heat lamps and fans, a convection oven, a warming drawer, an under the counter beverage center. And under the counter wine cooler, and a two drawer under-counter refrigerator. I'm moving soon and it will be Wolf/SubZero or Miele. Just because of this.

Initially, the appliances all Sat in their boxes until my kitchen renovation was completed about 6 months after my purchases. Several months after installing the appliances, the DISHWASHER broke... the water would not drain properly. Viking repair man fixed, then happened again about a year later. I asked Viking rep to replace product since same issue was re-occurring and appeared to be a pre-existing problem. I was told no; that since the dishwasher was still under warranty they would send another repair man. I was told the diverter valve needed replaced, and it would cost over $600.00 to repair!!! I was beside myself, I called Viking and said this was ridiculous since this was a pre-existing problem and I should not have to pay for repair. Well we all know their response... "Can't help as no longer under warranty." A frightening and dangerous feature of the GAS STOVE TOP is the design of the on/off knobs. I am all of 110 lbs, and sometimes when I lean forward to stir a pot on a back burner, the pressure from my body will actually turn the flame from the front burner on!!! Also, periodically when I turn one burner on, one of the burners that is off will make a clicking noise.
The REFRIGERATOR water dispenser broke after the first year. Later had troubles with the ice maker bar getting stuck in the "on" position, and more recently the clear plastic on the large pull out drawer cracked. Finally, the other day the refrigerator just stopped working - like it went into a defrost mode - ruined all frozen foods, and most of the refrigerated items. I called the store where I purchased the Vikings to see if maybe the refrigerator was still under warranty - they said no. I mentioned all the troubles I have had with these products, and the sales representative said they stopped carrying Viking products. I think that says it all!!!
The repairman came, said it was the poorly designed freon line which was directed into a drip pan (for cooling purposes) causing the line to rust/corrode, and consequently leak the freon. He was surprised to see this since he said, running the line in this manner was stopped years ago. The repair was estimated at $600.00 to replace the line, but possibly $1000.00+ if other related problems were found. The repair man said probably better to cut my losses and go with a more reliable refrigerator like GE, Kenmore or Whirlpool - rather than throwing good money after bad. Like many I want to repair since cheaper than buying new... but based on reading these postings, and past repair experiences... I'm afraid of getting burned once again. Being stuck between a rock and a hard place. :(
I would NEVER, ever recommend buying these overly expensive appliances built with their cheap parts, and poor design features. I feel like I spent a lot of money and never received a good return on my hard earned dollars. Should be illegal. Guy who mentioned a class action suit may be on to something.

Since then we have had nothing but major problem with it in that sometimes it works and then it don't, all the controls at the top that control the cooling etc. Goes haywire and then it defrost itself and won't come back on for hours, and then repeat itself. Have call Viking to repair it after major failure only to find out that technicians they send out call the Viking Refrigerator a "bag of worms." Not my words but those of a company that they use to repair them.
Kindly Viking send a composer to fix it, however it only work for a week and a half. I have discuss this with Viking and they tell me that they will give me $1100 off a new one. I would think that these people would get their act together. I have another tech that I could that now this product back and forth and he related that it would take three to four warrant item to repair it. I am still waiting on Viking to answer him yes or no.

Wife and I bought a house with a beautiful kitchen. We saw the Viking professional line in the house and it seemed like a blessing... until we moved in and the nightmares began. Two months into our living there, the dishwasher and refrigerator, both 2006 models have already broken several times. Little things are broken all over the inside of the fridge. The freezer does not seem to defrost and I've manually had to chop out ice from the pan inside, which is nearly impossible.
Dishwasher cannot get dishes clean at all, leaves a deposit. We've been using citric acid and scrubbing inside of washer by hand... no effect. We know an appliance repairman and he has a policy of not touching VIKING at all costs. Our nearest repairman who says they will fix is miles and miles away, and gives a "no guarantee" disclaimer on all things related to Viking. Another guys asked us for an up front retainer and our credit card before he'd even start and when we said no (seemed shifty) he said good luck because nobody wants to touch them. My parents had a GE refrigerator for 40 years. Our last fridge was Maytag and was 1/8 the price, no probs. Had a $200 GE dishwasher in old house that did a better job and no breakdowns for 10 years. Stay away from Viking.

The refrigerator (DFRB304L) was leaving a puddle on the floor in front. The repairman was clueless. Luckily, my son is an engineer and he took all the shelves out and took the inside back off in order to find the poorly engineered problem and caulk it. His repair worked. Also, the clear parts of the drawers all cracked. This is obviously a quality control problem, but when I contacted them, their response was that the refrigerator was out of warranty. At that time, it was only just. I really thought that a company like that would stand behind its products, but my eyes have been opened! They clearly don't care if you never buy another appliance from them.

I must manually defrost a several thousand dollar machine every few months or the repair will cost $1100. Not happening. The refrigerator will only cool to 43 degrees Fahrenheit. I would replace it in less than 3 seconds but I paid to have it built in with cabinetry on the front which cost a ton. BUT there is almost no one to repair it. I am seriously thinking about trashing this one. Very disappointing. Since I bought it 12/31/2003 it has been repaired several times. I think I have spent enough repairing a BAD machine. The refrigerator has doors that did not line up properly from the time it was received brand new. Viking already replaced the door on the frig side, and they have sent out techs to fix the alignment problem, and they sent their head guy. None of these efforts fixed the problem. Viking replaced the motherboard on the refrigerator too. The shelves and doors and drawers all have broken multiple times. Food freezes, milk freezes, we have wasted thousands in spoiled food because of this faulty refrigerator.
Viking is now pulling the "it is out of warranty game" although they promised me they would extend the warranty since they wanted me to allow them to fix the original Pro Series Refrig when they should have replaced the lemon appliance from the start. Don't trust them. Make them put it in writing. Better yet, don't let them constantly repair their junk, and make you live through inconvenience in a kitchen you paid $25k for their top of the line Pro Series. Insist on a refund or new replacement, otherwise you will be constantly living with techs and once the warranty expires they will say you are all on your own.
Viking replaced the double ovens, and the two dishwashers. Amazing no more problems and no service calls since the original junk was removed from my home. It should be noted that we replaced the dishwashers with LG, and no problems. In fact our CA home has Sub Zero, Fisher & Paykel and Miele, and they are all twice the age of this Viking junk that is in our AZ home and no problems. We also have Kitchen Aid in our TX home and no problems. Our Viking problems over the past 3 years since building our new home has caused huge inconvenience, and the problems are obviously correlated to the poor quality control that allowed such defective appliances to be sold. As with all the other Viking problems, once the original appliance has been removed and a different one installed, we have zero service calls.
Why would Viking Customer Service fight me on this? Viking had a great rep who did such a good job of trying to correct the problems with all of their other appliances, yet they now will not acknowledge the multiple times their techs have been out and in fact they recently stated there has only been one functional service call. Apparently Viking does not keep good records or they don't consider replacing an entire door, or replacing the motherboard, or replacing cracked drawers, or fixing a constant alarm, or fixing a freezing of milk problem, or replacing cracked shelves, or replacing broken rollers, etc to be functional service calls.
If Viking will live up to their commitments they made to me I will gladly let other consumers know but as of this writing they are ignoring me and leaving me with a broken refrigerator, one that was broken from day one, and hiding behind a warranty expiration date. I called who they claim is the head of all customer service, but she would not speak with me and the receptionist told me someone else is actually the head for my region. I do not want to speak with a regional head, as this is a matter that Viking's Chief Quality Officer needs to be made aware of. Viking if you care about your customers you will have someone contact me immediately to remedy this horrible situation.

We purchased out Viking refrigerator at Atlantic Appliances and should have listened to the salesperson who told us it was really an AMANA refrigerator with a VIKING label on the door. He was insulting AMANA because this brand was worse! Not less than 2 months later, the top of the cold cut drawer snapped off. The produce drawers cracked shortly afterward. Obviously the interior was sub-optimal and did not live up to the Viking brand. Overtime, I realized that the storage is not practical either. I cannot fit all of my produce in those two tiny drawers, and the bottom freezer cannot hold a large turkey.
Also, the freezer drawer does not come out enough so that you have to bend down and INTO the freezer. Finally the entire refrigerator crashed this weekend and we need to buy another, after owning it for 6 years. Went to SEARS and fell in love with a Kenmore french door... price 2000.00. I believe I can beat all negative reviews that I have read this evening... my Viking almost killed me tonight. It had been pulled out from its location into the kitchen because it had ceased to operate during the night... After a lengthy process we found a vendor to fix the problem. Whilst waiting for the part to be delivered tomorrow I said we must open the doors because as we have been told if a fridge is not functioning the doors should be open to prevent odors etc. As I opened the bottom drawer the fridge started to topple on top of me... my reaction was to try to stop it. However a 2 inch jut out in my counter caught the top door and prevented it from falling on top of me.
Everything crashed out of the fridge and I was surrounded by broken glass etc. We tried to push it back in place but it is on wheels and the disaster was about to be compounded... trying to hold it in place we called the local fire dept... They arrived and carefully pushed it back into place. I have no words for this piece of junk... excuse me - very expensive piece of junk. Lucky to be alive tonight!

Problem is, they don't work as well or have many features available on more popular consumer brands like GE, KitchenAid, etc., that cost much, much less. Our Viking range has racks that are impossible to pull out. In our other home, our GE Monogram has beautiful ball-bearing shelves that glide fully in or out with ease. The Viking fridge has shelves and compartments that are all cracked, even though it's pretty new. It beeps once in a while for no apparent reason (the door is CLOSED! ); it's slow to make ice, and has no ice or water through the door. Seriously? Why would anyone pay thousands for this junk when other brands have better features, more durability and cost far less to service?

Problems began - freezer does not freeze my ice cream. They replaced the coils, the fan, the thermistor, the thermistor connector wire. And STILL it does not freeze my ice cream. I have to manually defrost the freezer, then it works ok for a week then back again. Fridge is another story. Started off randomly beeping once a month or so. So I turned off the fridge and turned it back on, and it seemed fine. That was 3 months ago.
Now it does not stop beeping, and the fan does not come on. We replaced the thermistor, the powerboard and still it’s beeping. Viking has now told me it is no longer under warranty and so I'm on my own. They can't understand why it beeps. I've had 4 different technicians come out and they are at a loss. Viking does not want to speak to me, since I am not a technician, and have no warranty. Thank g-d it was under warranty.

The shelves in freezer were also easily off-track. Took 3 days to reach Viking Corporation since it does not take calls on weekends or holidays, nor after 5pm ET. Once connected to Viking Corp service rep I learned that the appliance is under warranty for 30 more days. But the approved service provider/distributor for the state of WI is in IL, and the first available diagnostic appointment was one week out.
The company rep at LV Distributors in IL gave "a 50-50 chance" that the service tech would be able to repair the refrigerator on the first visit, and could not estimate the time it would take to obtain necessary parts, nor when a tech would return for 2nd time. Calls to local high end appliance sellers & Viking owners about alternative service providers were fruitless. Reading Consumer Reports and other posts from owners in same circumstance makes it clear that this $3600 appliance is a bad choice if one wants a reliable, sturdy appliance.

The ice maker never functioned properly and we finally replaced it at a cost of over $550. Their service rep. actually argued and yelled at my wife on the phone because the item was out of warranty. How in the hell can any company stand for that type of customer relations and expect people like us to recommend their products??
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel and there are some companies that still know the business of good customer relations and that is Wolf / Sub Zero. Point in fact, my double oven control unit went out. We called the Wolf service center and asked them if there was anything they could do for us to minimize the cost of replacing the module at $760.00. They immediately said that they would waive the cost of the parts but we would have to pay a service fee of $125. DONE DEAL. By the way, the unit was ten years old. In the year 2000 my husband and I bought a home and shortly after began an extensive and costly kitchen remodel. We spared no expense and believing we were buying the best, we bought a Viking refrigerator. In hindsight, it was our worst decision. Almost from the very beginning we began having problems. The ice maker stopped working, the door accessories and drawers began to crack to the point that one of the condiment containers has a huge hole on the bottom rendering it totally unusable. Certainly not the quality you'd expect from such expensive appliances.
When food started spoiling we knew we had a big problem and called Viking for help. By then, of course, warranty had expired but they recommended a local service company. By the third visit with no resolution we knew we were dealing with an incompetent repairman and my husband, at this point beyond frustrated, practically threw him out of our home. We never got any satisfaction from Viking.
And it's incomprehensible to me that after spending thousands of $$$ on a beautiful, state-of-the-art refrigerator I am forced to make ice in plastic ice cube trays and keeping milk, cheese, cold cuts and veggies in my old GE in the basement because the temp is never cold enough no matter how we adjust the settings. Last night I opened the door to put something away and felt warm air. The Viking finally conked out. So, this morning my husband and I are debating who to call. And as I google Viking, I came across your reviews and, can I say, I am shocked by the hundreds of negative stories I have spent over 2 hours reading, stories so similar to mine.
So now I don't know what to do. Do I dare spend possibly $1,500-2,000 in repairs which may or may not fix the problem or do I ditch the Viking and take the loss? One of our dilemma is that our kitchen was totally custom therefore the Viking is tightly wall mounted with molding and trim all around. Would I be able to find a non-Viking refrigerator that would fit the same dimensions? I am so angry. This is certainly not what one would expect from a company like Viking. Viking does not take any responsibility for any of the problems you get. Standing behind their products is a news to them. I think their policy is sell, run and hide. I do have a Whirlpool Refrigerator that has spend most its life of 21 years in the garage with harsh temperatures but is still running like the first day. I would not buy and would discourage anyone that I care about to stay away from these products. I bought these items from Number 1 Appliance and they said these come with 10 years of warranty but each time I called the warranty company they told me that problem is not covered. I think they just warrant the heaviness of the product not its functionality.

We built a new home in 2011 and cook and bake regularly. Wanted what we thought were the BEST Appliances in the world but to our surprise the refrigerator and the dishwasher are the WORST!!! Our warranty ran out in August 2014. I called Viking to help us with the cost of the computer board in the refrigerator that doesn't work which means my refrigerator and freezer do not stay cold. The dishwasher takes hours to go through the shortest cycle, horrible! Shame on VIKING for not standing behind their product. I would not recommend anyone to purchase Viking Products.

My Viking refrigerator and dishwasher are just over four years old. We have had constant problems with the fridge beginning within a year of purchase. Ice maker replaced twice, unit not cooling, plastic cracking, doors not sealing. We have had the entire unit replaced, since then the ice maker is still working but the plastic is cracking again on the covers to the butter storage. The dishwasher has been repaired at least twice, once due to a fire hazard recall. Now it doesn't dry the dishes and needs repair again. In over 30 years of homeownership I have owned several homes with other appliance brands at much lower cost - have never had any single appliance come even close to having major issues such as this. When I paid top dollar for "professional" appliances I never expected this low level of quality.

Viking built in double door refrigerator is two years old and is terrible, I have had four service calls to fix it. The first time it simply shut down and stopped working, the service tech replaced the "inverter" and then it has started leaking water all over the floor. I have now called four times to have it fixed. The local, West Coast Regional Office is a joke. They don't even answer the phone. When they do answer I get the run-around until I insist they send someone to fix it, which then takes two or three days. And then, three weeks later the same thing happens. The unit has a three year warranty and Viking is refusing to honor it. They are just the worst example of customer service I can imagine. My advice is to avoid the purchase of any of their products.

Bought a brand new Viking two door, one drawer bottom freezer fridge. After a while the icemaker quit. They sent a tech. They told me they needed all sorts of parts from Viking. Then I got a call from Viking. "Your fridge has been discontinued!" Less than a year after coming onto the market. They told us they would send us a new fridge. We got the new fridge on 1 Sept 2014. Just before Christmas, the icemaker went out on this model. The tech called three different techs including Viking because he can't get the icemaker out of the fridge. The line frozen, too. I have to agree with everyone else here. Viking sucks and I have a full Viking kitchen that I wish I could afford to replace them all!

My wife got this unit thinking we were upgrading from a Samsung. To my surprise this unit was horrible. Forget about the fact of how small it was, but if you put eggs next to the ice maker you ended up with frozen ones!! Since this was a French style with the split doors we were blessed to have our jarred fresh garlic freeze when the unit was set at 40 degrees. After the technician came out the second time he told us that this unit with the Viking name was in fact either a Maytag or a KitchenAid. Nice!! I'm off on a mission to purchase a Sub Zero - never to buy Viking products again!!!

I just found this forum. My less than 2-year old fridge is out of warranty, and I pay out of my own pocket to fix numerous issues. Issues include: Drawers, shelves cracking, plastic trim breaking off, some shelves fall out at times of door. My ice maker: WHAT A JOKE. Viking sent repairman 3 times, still not working. The ice door gets stuck, ice piles, and when you open the door, ice is all over my floor. The water dispenser: It’s frozen. No water comes out. I stand for hours with a hair dryer and almost break my hair dryer to get it working. The low quality drawers spoil my produce. Lettuce/Celery/Carrots are soggy and mushy in less than 1 week time. My freezer consistently freezer burns food. The top of the freezer basically defrosts food and makes it unsafe. I would be interested in a class action. I am basically on the verge of throwing thousands of dollars to the curb to buy a new fridge. Isn't Viking supposed to be the best?!?!

For 10 years I have had a kitchen that looks like an ad for Viking appliances. I have had nothing but problems with them. My refrigerator dumps water all over the floor and I have to defrost the freezer with a hair dryer once a week. It forms ice under the drawer and then you can't open the drawer. My under the counter ice maker died after one year and I did get the distributor that I bought it from to give me a new one. My wine cooler came in with the lighting system not working and so did my 6 burner stove. Several of the eyes on the stove wouldn't ignite. The locking mechanism for self cleaning quit working too. I don't know why anyone sells or buys Viking. The real problem is that you can't get parts. I've written and called Viking trying to get parts. The last email I had directly from Viking, they had told me parts for my area were available in California. I live on the East coast.
My advise to anyone thinking of buying Viking is to not do it!!! You think you are buying a high end appliance that will last a lifetime and they are nothing but trouble. Here it is, 3 days before Thanksgiving and at midnight last night, the 'too warm' alarm has gone off on my refrigerator. I've had to move everything out of my refrigerator into the garage. I'm buying new appliances after Thanksgiving and they will not be Viking!!!!

Our very expensive Viking built in refrigerator keeps leaking from the freezer. It is besides other numerous problems it has developed since we bought it 1.5 ago. There is a few technicians available in the area. We also bought a Viking 6 burner range. It's been disastrous as well. We bought a Viking toaster and loved until it was recalled and deemed life threatening. Stay away from VIKING!!!

Refrigerator purchased 2011 (along with Viking ranges & ovens) and just ran out of warranty in August 2014. Since purchase, the refrigerator door hinge was recalled due to faulty manufacturing which might have caused door to fall off when opening. Next, the on-off light switch in the lower freezer compartment had to be replaced (just outside of warranty period) due to ice forming on the switch. Ice in a freezer??? Finally, rust has formed on the freezer door rails, again right after the warranty expired. Multiple calls to Viking customer support yielded no satisfaction...their warranty policy makes no exceptions for quality problems outside of the warranty period. Needless to say, not a happy Viking customer.
