So I call about my mower breakdown after less than 2 months. I mention that my son has lawns to mow. He is 16 and mows 2-3 lawns a week (for $) in addition to ours. The customer service rep says, after consulting his superior, that in the last page of the warranty manual that no commercial use is covered. So I am wondering, when the box says it has a 2 year warranty, who reads the whole manual before buying the product? In fact, should I have opened every box on every mower and read every page of the manual before purchasing? I will not buy a Troy-Bilt mower again. They sounded cheap at the store, but I thought I should try it. Now I know they are cheap. Then I look up reviews on Troy-Bilt. In 430 something reviews, the average is a 1 star out of 5. Shame on me this time, but it won't happen again.

Bronco Riding Mower (Bronco 17-HP Kohler 42) - Design has muffler up front, shrouding does not cover the entire muffler. A 6-inch gap on both sides of the 'hood' and the frame enables leaves and such to get blown in when mowing and immediately catches fire. Brand new mower, used 4 times. Troy-Bilt states "Don't mow over leaves", a pretty impractical thing.

I bought a brand new 2010 Troy-Bilt riding lawn mower. After only a couple of years, seven to be exact the transmission is gone. Plus they told me the transmission are on back order. What does that tell you. I have replace numerous deck belts and blades on this mower. The cover to where grass blows out has been broken since year two. I cannot even found a replace cover. I will never ever buy another Troy-Bilt product again. That lawn mower should have lasted a lot longer than seven years.

Well designed mower. Quick and maneuverable. Has feature that when enabled allows mowing in reverse, otherwise a rear moving operation disengages the blade. I have about 3 acres and it takes almost an hour to mow... Love the mower.

Purchased a Troy-Bilt push mower brand new from Lowe's in Harrisburg PA. Had to return the mower immediately because of engine issues. Purchased extended warranty and then moved to Florida 2 months later and the mower goes out AGAIN! Lowe's in Florida insisted on sending the mower to the warranty company who said the blade which was bent which did not occur during one of the 2 mowings the mower was used for. Wants me to pay $389 to repair a $160 mower. Mower is returned to store and store offers a refund of the $25 warranty only. The brand new mower is sitting in the shed since it is a piece of crap. Will never buy another Troy-Bilt. I did complain to the Better Business Bureau about Lowe's though.

Model TB22 EC trimmer 2 yrs old. Without the battery hand held starter, my arm would have fallen off. This, from day one. My real beef is with the trimmer head. Installing new line is a PITA. Carefully following video instructions is no help. Trimmer line stops feeding within a couple minutes of installing. Various after market products are clutzy at best with heavy adapters. I'd love a product called, "hammer head" but it's not available for this model.

5 weeks ago today... my Troy-Bilt 22hp XP Horse 46 inch cut riding mower had suddenly made a shrill whistling sound and then flames erupted from under the engine cover - nearly burning my face. This was followed by a BANG. Fire equipment was required to extinguish the blaze. Tractor was well maintained and was recently in the AUTHORIZED Repair Center for some minor electrical wiring damage that was caused by field mice--gnawing on a battery feed.

At the time, I had just completed the cutting of about 3/4 acre of grass and was driving it back to my house. Fire Officials were clueless as to how 2 large holes came to be present on the engine block. Well, one of them was caused by the 3 gallons of burning gasoline from the plastic fuel tank. The other was from the area of the cylinder wall that blew apart. Yes, I secured the area of about 50 feet circumference and found the chunk of jagged metal... A corner piece. Took photos of everything. That piece fit the hole... and is being maintained as evidence.

My Homeowners policy paid the difference for a replacement tractor... but I'm out my $1000 deductible. Can't find any attorney to take on this case... since Troy-Bilt is a China based company. AND... according to Troy-Bilt Legal... they knew of these case of fire and explosion and have done nothing to notify their customers. They even post and maintain a website of recent fires that are caused by their many products... not just riding mowers. I'd like to file a lawsuit. I could have been seriously burned, killed and my house aflame.

On April 23, 2017 I purchased a Mustang Fit 34, Troy-Bilt from Leonard's Ace Hardware in Russellville, AR. Mower was manufactured on 3/17. Less than 4 months later the machine shredded the transmission drive belt. We connected Troy-Bilt to find a dealer with the part. Called 3 different ones and ALL said they could not even identify the part. A second contact with Troy-Bilt got a list of supposed dealers that would "repair" and have parts. We contacted 2 of those and NEITHER serviced Troy-Bilt any longer!

We found online documentation that claims the drive belt has to be replaced by a PROFESSIONAL SERVICE person and requires removal of parts requiring custom tools. And yet we can't find a service/dealer in our area. Leonard's was NO HELP. I will be writing a review on them as well. They sold me the machine yet had no parts, could not supply me with a person that could/would repair. They would not take back the machine because it was "used!" That's why I bought it - to USE! It was used maybe 6 times. I suggest you NOT BUY ANY TROY-BILT product and do not buy anything from Leonard's Ace in Russellville, AR.

Received a Flex for Father's Day. Wife brought home and when opening the lawn mower attachment it looked like it was a dropped box. The front left caster was bent but still driveable. Machine felt like it was loosely built yet little did I know about future issues. After one year of use the actuator plastic engagement cable snapped off the round engager at the base. Called Troy Bilt and was referred back to Lowe's. Lowe's then wanted to charge me for shipping to a local authorized dealer. Took the machine to DEGENS and was met with the question "What kind of machine is that?" They never seen a Flex before.

After paying for a deposit of $100 for the service and a month later I was told to pick up the unit because Troy-Bilt would not cover the warranty. The reason was that the unknowledgeable mechanic told Troy Bilt that I used the machine as a BRUSH HOG. After numerous attempts to Troy Bilt they decided end the warranty. So now I have a base with no attachments. NEVER BUY A TROY-BILT PRODUCT. THEY WILL NOT FIX YOUR ISSUES.

I've owned this mower for about six years. It's always started on the first or second pull, ran pretty well and cut the lawn about average. About a month and a half ago, the mower started misfiring and stalling after about 20 minutes of use. After checking the plug and installing a new air filter, it still continued to stall after the motor would come up to temp. I took it to a local mechanic who told me it was a bad magneto. After a week and a half, he called me and told me he's exhausted every contact he's got and he cannot locate one-anywhere. I get on Troy-Bilt's website and try to find the part there. It's showing in stock and after an online chat to confirm the stock, I ordered it. It came in completely wrong. I contact TB, who email me a UPS label to ship it back to them. I then have to drive twenty minutes each way to the the UPS Store and wait in line there so I can return it. I then re-order it through Troy-Bilt and it comes in wrong again.

I again have to run to the UPS store to ship it back to them. After some research, TB refers me to Briggs and Stratton. Briggs email me a parts list and a picture of the magneto. I confirm that it's the correct part and I place an order directly through them. The part comes in- and it too is wrong. Not even remotely close to the magneto I need to replace. (I am now about 10 hours in on phone calls between Briggs and Troy-Bilt and a month in trying to get this part. A few hours running back and forth to UPS and multiple trips across town to borrow a mower so I can mow my lawn and then driving across town to return it).

I again call TB, the rep there told me he has the part. It's the correct one and he's going to ship it to me free of charge because of my troubles. Great! The part shows up. Wrong again! So, now it is confirmed that the part I need is not available through either Troy-Bilt or Briggs and Stratton and I now need to replace a six year old lawn mower that is in otherwise perfect condition. Troy-Bilt offered me a paltry 15% off the cost of a new mower and offered to ship it to me for free. Fifteen percent off, for hours and hours of frustration. Hours driving back and forth borrowing a relative's lawn mower and returning it. Hours going back and forth to the UPS Store to ship back incorrect parts. Needless to say, I am not happy with MTD, Troy-Bilt or Briggs and Stratton.

Once the string was removed, following the manual instructions explicitly, I struggled for more than 45 minutes to get the new string in. The manual stated to use 20 feet of 0.095 string. The spool would only accommodate about 12 feet, and it never did go all the way thru the housing like the manual says. So I threaded in from both sides, and that was an equal pain in the ass. Once that was accomplished, I was able to use the trimmer for about five minutes before the string broke off, inside the head again. I'm going back to Craftsman. I have never had a equipment failure that I didn't attribute to operator error until today... my personal 4-stroke weed eater decided to stall the pull start portion. This was after taking a trip to replace the gas line after sitting for a year. If 1 year is the life expectancy of the Troy-Bilt products, then this one lived up to standards. I guess I should respool the 15yr old McCulloch weed eater that still starts and runs, but I decided the Troy-Bilt 4-stroke was the better choice... didn't think they were a disposable brand. I brought it back to Lowe's, but they sent me to a Warranty dealer (90 day) for repair. After 4 weeks in the Repair shop could find nothing wrong with it. Noise continued. Lawnmower use about 6 times throughout summer. Noise continued but it kept cutting. In September the Start pull cord broke and unit would not start. It is now in the shop for repairs for which I will have to pay. Contacting a human at Troy-Bilt is impossible. Phone #'s keep referring you elsewhere. This Lawnmower is garbage and I will tell everyone I know this fact. Will never buy Troy-Bilt again for ANYTHING.

I bought a string trimmer and it lasted until the 3rd use. I took it into 3 different authorized service centers and they could not even get a call back from Troy Bilt for repair authorization. Bottom line I got screwed and wasted my money. At the same time I bought the string trimmer I also purchased a hand held blower that lasted 1 year. Same issue, not worth fixing and the warranty and extended warranty sold by the dealer are worthless.

I still have a Troy Bilt mower but when that goes which it will shortly I am sure I will never purchase a Troy-Bilt product again. Interesting two of the authorized service companies have stopped even trying to service these products. The stack of complaints that they both had and open tickets waiting for authorization to repair was in the 100's. Purchase and you will regret it.

After one year of operation, 3-failed spindle bearing assemblies, 4-sets blades so far. Troy said they only warranty wear parts for 30-days out the door. What a joke. Parts will wear out after 1st year of use and can cost as much as $500 or more. Furthermore, they don't have a lot of loyal dealers that want to work on them. So if you buy their product you're on your own as far as warranty... FYI, Lowe's doesn't carry any parts for it and looks like they may even drop them altogether. I do expect the lawnmower to quit after another three times and at that point I try to return it to the place where I bought. It wasn't a week later I called them and they had to come get my mower and replace it with another one because the deck was falling apart. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty. Cause it was another 3 weeks had deck issues with the second one... And again the game and got the mower and brought me a new one again. Finally I thought 3rd time a charm... wrong this one didn't last a yr and ban the spindle bearings froze and shears the bolts off the deck. Wow to my surprise it went flying almost killing my father where he was just sitting... thank god he just got up.

So now with extended warranty I called had them pick up and get repaired. Ah I took pick a also before they took it. Now they call me after 3 weeks and yard need mower bad and says, "Oh well it will cost you 698.00 to repair." They stated I ran over something and that 8 bolts sheared off and deck belt was busted. And spindle bearing was frozen but due to me. And oh let's not forget the blades that said was bent... and my fault when the funny thing was the blades wasn't and I had the blades at my home. So how can they say this when it was 4 bolts sheared off from one spindle on the deck due to bearings freezing up, the belt was in great shape and I had the blades.

I can't understand how a tech can make a call like that, stating I ran over something where it's impossible cause there was nothing there. I'm not happy nor will I purchase another troy bilt mower. I just want mine fixed when I did nothing wrong and I took care of it like you're suppose too. There is no grease fitting to grease bearings and my last mower lasted 8 yrs and never had a problem but it wasn't a troy either. Never have I seen bearing to put so fast in a riding mower. This really upsets me. Someone help me get some answers.

I am writing this review to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the above product which I purchased at Lowe's earlier this summer. I have had Troy-Bilt equipment over the years and was generally pleased with their performance. However, this product was a disaster from the get go. First, it was always hard to start. The bump head that came with it was impossible to re-thread. A supplemental instruction sheet was of no help and, in fact, nonsensical and that it was obviously not designed to properly hold the line in place.

I replaced the head with another brand and it worked for a couple weeks even though the engine remained hard to start. Next, the lower shaft broke off at the lower hole just above the bumper head. I went to your website and could find no reference or parts list for a model TB635 EC, "Made in Mexico." I called your help line number and was told the model number for parts was in fact 41ADZ63C766. At this point I gave up figuring that the replacement cost for the lower shaft was probably not worth the cost, assuming I could even find the correct part number. I am not writing this review for a rebate, replacement, or any monetary gain. I am writing this to warn other potential customers of this inferior product.

I bought my 2 cycle edge trimmer 41ADT22C966 TB22EC many years ago and worked just fine till one day stops working as it should. By disassembling the crank shaft cover I have noticed that the cover bearing is broken (metal piece that holds the bearing balls apart disintegrated). When disassembling the bearing I noticed that the external surface of the bearing was heated with a torch maybe when it was assembled (I don't think that the surface of the bearing get blue with the use but during the assembly).

After replacing the bearing the motor locked. By disassembling the whole motor I find that the part of the top of the piston and one ring broke. This problem now I can blame only myself because maybe a part of the broken bearing came back from the muffler and went into the motor and make the damage. I should take the whole motor apart at the first place. The first problem I want to complain about is that I believe it has this assembling issue and the trimmer broke after the warranty expired (and how to prove I am right in my conclusion of assembling problem?)

The second problem is that to find replacement parts that you want on the Troy-Bilt parts site is bad. They don't sell only the bearing, they want to sell you the entire crankshaft cover and also they don't sell you the piston kit (Piston + rings + connecting rod + bearing) but they want to sell you the entire motor block which is the half price of a new. On other parts sites that sell the piston kit I couldn't find the right one for this model. So I am very unhappy with Troy-Bilt first because it broke and second because I cannot repair it cheap. I have another Troy-Bilt product which is a lawn mower but it has a Honda motor which is good until now. That was bought at the same time of the edge trimmer.

I bought my Troy Bilt Pony 17.5 hp 42-inch riding mower a year ago this May that just past. Last year during the second cutting the right blade came completely off and bent the other one. No problem. Bought two new blades and had them put on where I bought the mower at. This April, 8 cuttings later, I was in the middle of my mowing and the right side of my deck fell down and stopped working. I pulled it under the garage to see what was the problem. The actual right side lifting and lowering bracket that was welded to the deck had broken completely off of the deck in a three-inch hole diameter.

I called Troy Bilt customer service about the breakdown. They said it was not under warranty and it was not their problem, that it can't be fixed but buying a new deck would be the only way to fix this problem. The price of a new mower deck is $328 and that's totally outrageous. I brought it to a professional machine shop to get the bracket welded back on to the deck. The welder tried, but informed me that the deck was too thin to weld the bracket on to. I still wouldn't stop at this point, I went to the local hardware store and purchased 3 brackets with nuts and bolts and drilled and screwed the bracket and deck (with JB Weld also) back together perfectly as to the original measurements (pics included). It ran beautiful for one cutting.

Today my wife was cutting the yard and I heard screaming. I looked out the door and there was smoke surrounding the mower. I ran out there with my fire extinguisher and sprayed it down. I looked under the mower and found that the right pulley had frozen up and the friction of the belt had caught fire, then it caught my gas hose on fire causing gas to spew, almost burning my entire mower and possibly exploding on my most precious gift in life my wife. Tomorrow, I'm dragging the one-year-old mower to my tree line and using it as a practice target. Never will I look, talk, or listen to anyone or anything that has to do with Troy-Bilt. Six months ago I probably would have given this mower 3 or 4 stars. Today it's a 1. When we went to mow for the first time in April it wouldn't start. I took it to a local mower place we know - I didn't think of calling Lowe's for some reason - and with their backlog it took three weeks to get it back. Today I picked it up. It started in the parking lot so I took it home where it stalled repeatedly for about five minutes, at which point it sputtered and died. I took it back to our local mower fixers where MyGuy started cursing the names of Briggs & Stratton and Troy-Bilt - which he swore he never used to do. Apparently, B&S recently moved from these boring, functional metal carburetors to fancy, uppity plastic carburetors. This is where I learned that these are a big ginormous FAIL. The plastic doesn't like gas. Or heat.

MyGuy made a heroic effort, fiddling with the carb for a few minutes and waxing eloquent about cheap manufacturers, shoddy workmanship and the Death of Quality in America (while Taps played quietly in my mind). He fired it up and I took it home, only to make it through about ten feet of fescue and dandelions before it gave up the ghost for good. So I called Lowe's. And I can't find the receipt from 13 months ago, (YES. I know better. Moving on.), so they are trying to track down the receipt, but the store only keeps six months of records, and the guy on their service line only has a year. The customer service lady made "poor baby" noises and gave me the number of their authorized fixers. I called the fixers who just kinda said, "no receipt, huh? That sucks for you - we can't help you without one. Have a nice day!"

Contacted Troy-Bilt who say they'll sell me a replacement carb. It is also plastic. I said thanks anyway. I think I'll trade-in the giant paperweight in my back yard on a refurbished mower from MyGuy. Maybe he'll cut me a deal since I'm suddenly such a good customer. On the bright side, not only MyGuy, but all his friends at other refurbishing places around town now refuse to touch these mowers. Moral of the story: If you really, really, really, really have to have a Troy-Bilt TB200 (or TB240, maybe some others - check the carb for plastic), SAVE YOUR RECEIPT AND GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!! You WILL have issues with the B&S carb. It WILL need to be worked on...and you'll probably have to go to the poor suckers who contract out to Lowe's for their mower repair. Nobody else will touch your mower with a ten-meter cattle prod. As for me and mine...we will never again touch a Briggs & Stratton or Troy-Bilt mower. Nope.

Every single weed eater or edger that I have owned has a lifespan of 1 to 2 summers. I only have my yard and the price does not equal the performance of the product, and I will never buy another Troy-Bilt hand operated tool. I took them in for repair and the mower shop mechanics said "throw them away, the parts and labor are more than a new one will cost". I was also told that there is a tag on the bottom of the weed eaters that tell a person how many hours to expect out of them and sure enough mine read 50 hours. Invest wisely and remember metal and plastic don't make good partners in motorized tools. My rating of them would be 1.7, and I don't think this is going to matter to them in the least.

I purchased a Troy-Bilt weed trimmer at Lowe's. Today was the fifth time I have used it. It is a total piece of junk!! I guess they put the "jump start" option on these because they die literally about every 5 minutes!! I start it manually, and at first it does fine, then it starts dying. As it keeps dying it gets harder and harder to get started. It has 3 speeds, it absolutely will not run on #3 (as the instructions say to run it). If I put a very light line on it, it runs a little bit better, but not much. I have a 10 year electric weedeater that has been way more reliable. I will NEVER waste my time and money on a Troy-Bilt product again!!!

This is truly a piece of junk mower. I bought this model due to the larger engine, wider cutting path, self-propelled operation and "mulching" capabilities. The self-propelled operation began failing on the 5th use. By the 10th use, the wheels would completely lock for no apparent reason... which means if you are mowing moderately compacted soil, they simply dig in. In less than two seasons, the mower is useless and ready to be thrown away. The mulching aspect is a joke, with perfectly dry grass that is about 4 to 4.5 inches long and being cut to 3 inches, at the end of each pass you end up with a pile of grass when you turn around. Mulching is not a function of this mower.

Like many of you reading reviews of mowers, we are simply looking for a moderately priced ($300-$400) mower that will last 5-10 years, like the cheap mowers that used to be sold in this country that easily lasted 10+ years. For the price I paid for this fall-apart mower, I could have had my lawn professionally cut for only about 2 months fewer cuttings than this mower actually worked and I live in the Midwest where we only mow about 6 months per year.

For $25-$50 at a garage sale and still new in the box, this mower might be a decent buy. But if you are paying more than $100 you are just throwing your money away and can plan to get a lot of headaches with this fall-apart mower. My attitude on companies that build bad quality products and then say, "well if you buy our top of the line, then you'll get better." Sorry Troy Bilt - you had your chance. Your middle of the line is absolute garbage so I can only assume your top-of-the-line barely above garbage and may last 3 years.

Dealing with a defective Homelite trimmer made me step back and realize how much I love and appreciate my always-reliable Troy-Bilt 556! I purchased this mower new, well over a decade ago. Since then, I've put it through the wringer. I've cut my own yards hundreds of times, as well as many of my neighbors' yards. It eats pine cones by the bushel, and laughs at steep, undulating terrain. It's lightweight, yet sturdy. It's easily adjustable and gives a nice, smooth cut. What's more, it still starts on the first pull, every time! No priming, no hassles! The Briggs & Stratton engine purrs like a kitten. Just make sure to use a sharp, balanced mulching blade and change the oil frequently. Also, clean the air filter after each use (replace when necessary, 2-3 times a season) and pop in a fresh spark plug every now and again. You won't be disappointed! I count on getting many more years of use out this lawn mower!

Purchased a Troy-Bilt t30 riding mower. Mowed twice with it with OK results. However on about the third time the mower will run for about 15 minutes then stutter then shuts off. Cannot get it to run. After about an hour it will start back up and run for about 15 mins if I'm lucky to get that. Changed oil, gas, oil filter, gas cap, air filter, spark plug, clean carbs. Everything they suggest with no success. Finally called Troy-Bilt. He told me it sounds like the two magnets around the ignition coil need to be gapped. Let's see, the mower brand new only $1000. Already spent $200 on service. Now another $200 to $300 with only expectations that will fix the problem.

Mower only has about 5 hours on it. Light mowing, never even lower the deck. This is why I will never buy another Troy-Bilt or mtd product again. Unfortunately Lowe's sells these and that will make them look bad with all the negative problems. Based on my research, this problem has occurred many times. Along with about hundred other problems. Never again. I will stick with Murray or Snapper as long as there is no mtd name on it. Lowe's, better pick another brand.

I purchased a bit less than a year ago a Troy Bilt TB 280 ES. It is a walk behind, self-propelled mower with electric start. The assembly and set-up was simple.

I loved this mower the first few times I used it. Then, it stopped all of a sudden and would not start. After some research, I removed the fuel bowl on the carb and cleaned the bolt/jet. The engine then operated flawlessly until the second time. Same thing. The mower was prepped for winter. I started it in mid-March just to check it. No problem. I tried to start it again in April to cut the grass. There was no fuel going to the engine. I removed the fuel bowl. There was no clog in the bolt/jet.

Hmmm. Called Lowe's where I purchased it. I was told to bring it to the store with the receipt and they would ship it off. I'd have it back in 7-10 days blah blah. I ordered a carb rebuild kit from Briggs.Took it apart. Cleaned the carb. The clog was in the top of the vertical jet and it was definitely clogged. The issue is I had a Snapper (with a Briggs engine) for many years and a Honda for years that I sold before I retired and moved long distance. I never had a problem with either of these. I have read on the net the fuel starvation issue is common and can be solved by using ethanol free gas. I will use either ethanol free gas or the $20.00 a gallon pure gasoline from Lowes until I decide I have had enough of this junk carb. Briggs & Stratton has pulled a fast one with the bad design of this motor.

There is sufficient research at Briggs and Troy-Bilt to have avoided this common issue. The bottom line is that neither of them give a damn about the consumer. It's all in the sales numbers. I have learned two things from all this: Buy lawn equipment from a local dealer, not a big box store. The local guy in is the service business. Forget Briggs and Stratton. They should know better.

Buyer beware. In the past I owned Troy-Bilt Tillers and was very satisfied. Based on that experience I purchased the Troy-Bilt Horse lawn tractor with a 22 hp Kohler engine and 46" mowing deck. This terrible mistake cost me not only the original price and the cost of many repair parts, but a large section of a privacy fence and other damage to my property.

The design of the vented deck presents a fire hazard as debris collects underneath the chassis and comes in contact with the engine exhaust. Several times I have extinguished small fires under the hood when I stopped mowing. Last evening there was a light breeze when I was mowing. When I was done I didn't see any smoke or fire, so I parked the mower in the corner by the privacy fence. About 15 minutes after parking the mower, it was fully engulfed in flames, destroying the tractor, burning a 16' section of the fence and damaging a utility trailer. The fire came within 3' of my home. We were blessed that our granddaughter was outside and saw the smoke.

Since the original purchase I have had to replace parts constantly. Drive belt, mower belt, pulley spindle, control cable, steering shaft are just a few of the parts you can expect to replace if you buy this piece of equipment. Even with all of the replacement parts and constant maintenance the overall performance of this tractor was fair to poor.

Changed the plug and cleaned the carburetor and air filter. I was told that there are plastic parts inside the engine and carburetor built by Briggs and Stratton. I went online and saw that there were hundreds of complaints about this particular machine as well as other Briggs and Stratton engines. Called Lowe's where I purchased it and was told there is nothing they could do for me and that the machine is out of warranty. Called the manufacturer and was told the same thing.

We are stuck with a product that was built with plastic parts placed in an engine that heats up and melts the plastics. I think it's time for a class action suit. Check out the complaints online if you don't believe me. At the very least we should be compensated for the parts that were defective and shouldn't have been used in the first place. I will never purchase another Briggs and Stratton or Troy-Bilt product. I think it's time a class action suit be brought against both companies.

I purchased the trimmer in September 2014, used it for two months then put it away for the spring. It worked twice but then the pull starter wouldn't engage. I tried the electric start adapter and that locked the pull string and it wouldn't do anything. Took it to an authorized service center and they fixed it under the warranty. It worked fine for the rest of the 2015 season.

I pulled it out this season and worked fine for a couple of days but then the pull string wouldn't engage again. Now it is sitting at the service center AGAIN. Even the owner at the repair center says that these trimmers are disposable. I shouldn't have to spend $200 on a disposable trimmer. I paid $160 when I bought my RYOBI and I think that was a much better unit. Luckily, it was repaired under warranty last time and it should be the same this time but if it happens again, it's going in the garbage.

From the beginning it seemed that the engine was underpowered and would die at least twice during the 15 minutes it took to cut my lawn. When the season was over after about 5 or 6 cuttings, I drained the gas and put the mower away for the winter.

When I started it up this year in May (with new gas), it seemed even more underpowered and died even more frequently. I put up with it a few times and finally took it in for repair to the authorized repair shop (Earls). They informed me that the 2-year warranty did not cover fuel related or maintenance problems or this claim in particular because the issue was that the mower had old gas in it. Keep in mind this is a mower that never did run right from the beginning, and was only used maybe 6-8 times. I had misplaced my receipt and did not locate it until this spring. I took it to the repair centre (Gravenhurst) and had to make a deposit even though it was a warranty call. As I went to demonstrate the problem It worked but they kept it anyway to look at it. Their 'look at it' involved writing on the service order "Check out recoil starter. It is working." Why it did not work no one knows or would check it to find out.

Since I was unable to properly winterize the unit it would not run. $135 later, it is now working. I called MTD about the pull cord issue and was told by Shawn that they would not authorize the service centre to check the recoil starter as they found it works. I purchased a Troy-Bilt TB225 Cultivator at Lowe's. The thing ran for a total of 20 minutes then quit and would not start. Put it away and tried again the next day. It ran 20 minutes, then would not start. Have not been able to get it to start since. Tried to take it back to Lowe's as it was within the 90 days of purchase. They would not let me return it. Kept telling me it had to go out and be serviced. I kept telling them that it had less than 1 hour of run time, It don't need to be serviced. They were going to let me get another one but there were none in stock. I then requested my money back ($199.00). They told me they could not do that. So much for the return policy on the receipt. I could not even get a store credit. Now I am stuck with a $199 piece of worthless junk and my garden may not go in this year. Needless to say, because of this I will not shop Lowe's or buy Troy-Bilt again.

In the past two years I have purchased two Troy-Bilt trimmers. The first one I had to exchange in the first week because it just wouldn't run. Lowe's ask me if I wanted a refund or exchange, I went for the exchange, bad mistake. I should have returned the second one, because after about one month I started having problems with hard starting and keeping it running. Next the auto feeder failed and would not feed the cutting line. Every time I have used this thing it was hard to start and would not keep running. It got to the point I had to use starting fluid to get it to even fire and today it decided not to start at all. It is now in my junk pile and headed to the dump next trip. Seeing the amount of complaints about this product shows me that it is not just me, but that the product is poorly built and inferior. I definitely will never buy another Troy-Bilt product and will recommend to all I know to stay away from them.

Bought a Pony from Lowe's. The very first time I cut the grass I noticed that when I engaged the blades the mower it seemed to labor and by the time I finished the mower was shaking badly. I stopped and when I reengaged the blades again the mower stalled, the right side blade bearing was seized up? After it cooled down I was just able to reengage it... I took it back to Lowe's, they were great and had (No Problems) in getting a complete refund. I liked the mower overall, but having it fail the first time out with such a serious problem I would recommend you pass on the Pony. I bought a John Deere!

I bought fresh gas without ethanol and mixed Troy-Bilt oil in one gallon can, put it in and it started and ran great for about 15 minutes and then it started missing and would not rev up or idle. I checked the fuel tank and there was 1/2 tank of fuel. It stopped and could not get it started again until it cooled down and the same thing happened again. Junk. Will not buy another one.

Last October I purchased a Troy-Bilt TB525 EC. I ran it once then put it away for the winter. I used non-ethanol gasoline but did not drain it as advised on the last page of the manual. This summer (June) I tried to start it. It was very difficult to start and when it finally did start, it ran briefly then stopped. I took it back to Canadian Tire and they kindly sent it out to a registered Troy-Bilt repair depot. The mechanic there looked at it, said that the coil was gone (this after one use) and he replaced it and then said that the carburetor required a complete rebuilding and this would cost me $175.00.

I tried the telephone contact and the advice I received was useless to say the least. The fellow who answered told me that since I had left the gasoline in over winter, it had released a type of varnish that had coated the float valve and this was my fault and that the warranty was no longer valid because I had not drained the tank. So much for Troy-Bilt statement that the machine was built for life.

Apparently he knows nothing about the carburetor - there is no float valve in the carburetor and the idea that non-ethanol gasoline gives off a varnish seems preposterous at best and ludicrous in the extreme. He informed me that although the provided quote was very high and obviously the mechanic had wanted to rebuild the carburetor instead of installing a new one - I got the impression that this would have been cheaper. He did not offer to intercede with the warranty repair place and basically said 'too bad you made a mistake and have to live with it'.

Basically I am a very unsatisfied customer. I purchased this because my rototiller is a Troy-Bilt and I am very happy with it. But one out of two is not good enough for me and surely it should not be good enough for you either. The machine I bought is a lemon and more than anything, I would like my money back. If not, I would accept a new Troy-Bilt trimmer but I would want a guarantee that it would work properly.

It now at least tries to work - still won't pull itself. I went online and the Troy-Bilt website was only helpful with general info. It suggested I call their customer support which I did. The woman was absolutely of no help at all. She said I'd need to take it to an authorized warranty shop which I'd already called and was told it would be at least 8 weeks before they could even look at it. I then used their live chat option and was told to take the mower apart to check for bad linkage, cable, belts or transmission. I was told this would void my warranty by the store I bought it at.

Eventually the chat person simply stopped responding and finally simply dropped me from chat. THEN I get an email asking me how my experience with their customer service department went. I honestly thought it had to be a joke. I have a mower that doesn't work, no hope for getting it serviced for 2 months and the only advice I got from Troy-Bilt was to consider buying another mower or going to the store and demanding a refund. Same thing about starting it, really hard to pull but it starts. I'm cleaning away and all of a sudden the engine starts revving faster then slower and slower until it stops. I restarted, it went through the same pattern until it stopped and seized. I soaked the cylinder with penetrating oil and it loosened up really well but when I started it, it ran fine for about 2 minutes then started to over rev again.

Next step was Google to find an answer...and all I saw was more frustration with Troy. I don't get it, I've run the old flathead B&S all my life and seldom had issues. This overhead valve version has major issues. JUST A LITTLE ADVICE SO YOU DON'T MAKE SAME MISTAKES I MADE. I had a Troy-Bilt (MTD) riding lawn tractor. Motor went bad because oil stuck in dipstick. Not Troy-Bilt fault. Had to totally rebuild the deck, wheels, bearings. Had to have a machinist manufacture them. MTD 2 cycle's motors are hard to start. Seems like something always breaks for which there is no repair part. Have had shoulder problems trying to start them. The power start ones aren't much better. Troy-Bilt is not the old reliable garden tiller, which made the name famous.

My advice - buy a Stihl from a Stihl dealer, or an Echo from an Echo dealer, or John Deere tractor from a JD dealer. Of course, they'll last forever, but you will pay more initially. Most dealers are so helpful, they have quality repairmen paid a living wage. The owners just eke out a living, but they know their stuff. On the other hand, big box stores have lower quality machines. On mowers, just look at their decks, wheels, frame. Buy one and you will always have a new machine every couple of years. I have had lots of 3-4 year old two-cycle equipment from big box stores that are probably already made into more junk.

Now I have dealer sold equipment and most are 10-15 years old and have never seen a repair shop. No headaches, no frustrations, they just keep on working. My Stihl chain saw is 40+ years old, has had only one spark plug change, and still starts on second pull. Same for Stihl leaf blower. 15 years old, always starts on first or second pull. My JD (8 years old) lawn mower's deck is built like a tank. The mower has ground up many small stumps from brush, large branches and even ground on rocks. The only damage is dull blades. Avoid big box stores, most of their power equipment is bottom line junk so the CEOs can make big bucks. They have no onsite service. No knowledge and are usually sold by low wage workers - probably on commission.

I have had this Troy-bilt sense 2007. Last summer the rear end gears started to slip. Finally the mower would not go forward anymore. So I took the Rear end off and took it apart and the 2 gears and the clutch was slipping, so I ordered two new gears and the clutch, put them in and put the lawn mower back together. It ran fine for one mow and then the drive Shaft gears stripped and I had to tear it apart again to see what was wrong. I was right, the drive shaft was wore down so the gears would not connect to make it go forward. I just ordered a new one and it cost $81.00 with tax and shipping. So far that is what I am waiting on to fix it. The other gears look ok not worn.. If this doesn't fix it I guess I will sell it and buy something else. It is a good cutting mower if you can keep the deck level. This is sometimes a problem, but I usually can fix it.

I ended up having to pay $112 to get my machine back after repair. MTD claims the cord broke due to excessive use, and that this part is only warranted for 30 days from date of purchase. Seriously? Using the machine 12 times is excessive? Not in northern Ohio it isn't. MTD IS BEING DISHONEST AND DISREPUTABLE. THEY SUCK!

I inherited A Troy Bilt mower from Lowes with a Honda engine from my fiance. The gas tank was bone dry because of a gas leak I didn't realize until I put gas and then I fix the leak be having to take the carburetor off. Designed poorly because you have to take the carburetor/intake manifold off the engine to get the air breather off. It has an automatic choke which is the other problem. I checked for spark and for compression - those were fine. Finally getting the carburetor back on I tried to start it, would start but would not run. I covered the carburetor intake and it started and ran. I think because the poor design the carburetor has an air leak where it connects to jets the engine.

I bought a Troy-Bilt TB80 EC about 7 years ago and it worked well up 2 months ago, it started to run sluggish and was pretty beat up. After 7 years I thought it was time to replace it. I went to Lowe's and got a TB32 EC. My boys used it once then I did the week after and in the middle of doing my yard <1/2 acre, it died on me. I could not get it to start and I realized it was not getting compression. I figured that the piston rings got wore out because the boys "did not" put the right mixture in it (they did make the right mixture).

So I went back to Lowe's and got a new one and made the proper mixture of oil and gas myself, then finished the yard. The next week, I went to weed whack and lo and behold, this one quit on me. It was doing the same thing as the one before, no compression. Upon inspection, I found that one of the housing screws (791-181862) was broken off and the o-ring (753-06174) was broken and coming out of the back. So I looked at the other one and it had the same problem.

Luckily I bought it with my Lowe's card and was able to prove I bought in the last 30 day and was able to return it. I got the TB2044 XP which seems to be of better quality. I have used it for the last couple of weeks with no problems. The first TB32 EC I got I would have to return to the manufacturer if I wanted my money back. Instead of having to deal with that drama, I drilled out the housing screws and replaced the o-ring. Now it runs fine. The parts cost me ~$6. Just a warning to all, don't make the same mistakes I did and keep your receipts.

I purchased the Troy-Bilt 26J Mini Rider to replace my Craftsman ride on mower. I'm 55, female... and very good at using all types of mowers, tools etc. I have to say that this mower looked so darn cute, that I just had to buy one! I managed to get the last one the store had in stock, it was the floor model. Once I started it up, it sounded rather "tinny". As I tried to familiarize myself with the mower, I discovered that when turning a sharp turn, with the wheel turned all the way... the wheels got stuck trying to go over a small patch of sod we have in our yard. Then, when trying to brake, the mower jerked to a stop and was really scary.

Then I tried to do near an edge where we have landscape rock...but the mower isn't user friendly in tight spots. I wasn't able to do nearly the job of my other mower. Also, I have an inground pool, and was riding near the edge like I always do, when the front wheels got stuck and almost PUSHED me over the edge and into the pool with the blades still engaged! The front wheels are too small for the rest of this mower for some reason! I was scared to death and alone.. When the wheels got stuck, the stopping motion jerked me off the seat, which in turn, made it impossible to go froward or backward cause the mower turns off when someone isn't seated in the chair!!

I screamed for help.. didn't know what to do.. I finally was able to turn it off and get off of it and push it out of the position it got stuck in. In my opinion, this mower would be better if it had the ability to lower the steering wheel. I'm not sure if it's me or what, but it just doesn't seem safe. The mowers I have had in the past have all had tractor-like fronts which allow the operator to have more control over the steering. I'm going to see if the retailer will take it back. I've only had it two weeks and I won't use it ever again.

I purchased a Troy-Bilt Pressure Washer Model 020486 with a Briggs & Stratton Engine Model 111POZ on June 15, 2012 with a 2-year warranty to 'repair or replace, free of charge, any part(s) of the pressure washer that is defective in material or workmanship or both'. The pressure washer worked fine for the first year. At the beginning of the second season, I went to fill the tank with gas and the gas just poured right through the tank. On May 30, 2014, I called the Briggs & Stratton dealer (Gwinnett Mower Repair), who is listed as a 'Diamond Dealer' for warranty service for this product, since it would be still covered under warranty (just barely for another 14 days, but still within the 2-year coverage period).

I described the symptoms to the dealer and he told me it was most likely a carburetor issue due to bad gas and would not be covered under the warranty. He did tell me I could bring it in to confirm, but he told me he's seen 100's of these and that's most likely the cause. My interpretation of that response was that right up front they blame the user for using bad gas so they don't have to cover any repairs or replacement, rather than a defective carburetor (i.e., a defective 'part' that would be covered under warranty). So, I'm choosing not to waste my time to bring it in, and will take the loss.

I realize that products like these have the reputation for being 'one season wonders', but I was hoping I could get at least 2 seasons out of this Troy-Bilt product and the warranty would be honored. Obviously, their 2-year warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on, and the recommended repair service companies as co-conspirators, 'diamond dealers' ;-) or not, will never blame a defect on the product.

I'm off to buy a Honda product with a Honda engine and write-off Troy-Bilt products and Briggs & Stratton engines for ALL future products and purchases, and unfortunately Gwinnett Mower Repair as well, as an ally with Troy-Bilt and Briggs and Stratton. The up side is that I will give this defective product to a friend who likes to work on engines to repair or replace the carburetor, and I'm sure he will be able to get it working, something the "Diamond Dealer' was unwilling to do under warranty. Now I will have to take the front cover off to keep it from clogging. I am 6 foot tall, which is not real tall. I have to stay bent over all the time because the handles are very low. The mower must have been made for a midget and there is no adjust to make the handles higher. The only thing good about the mower is the engine. So, whoever designed the mower itself has got to be an idiot. The two stars are for the engine. And well the wheels haven't fell off, YET.

I bought the Colt FT 208cc front-tine tiller 3/31/2014, used it for 30 minutes it started blowing gas out the side of the carb and cutting out and finally died. Started it back up, seemed to have fixed the problem on its own and then it started the same thing again. Contacted Lowe’s where I purchased it from. They exchanged it for a new one. Used this one for 2 hrs and now it is doing the same thing and they say the bolo tines are self-sharpening and cleaning - that's a joke. I have to clean the tines of rom, small grass roots get wrapped around the tines and it stops digging - spend more time cleaning the tines off and letting the engine set to stop blowing gas out then I do tilling. Waste of money. Wished I would have went to Sears.

Big red tiller arrives but gearbox makes noise and leaks oil. Knob comes off in hand trying to stop and tiller runs over temp. Propane line. Troy-Bilt corp unconcerned about the seriousness and explosion their very poor craftsmanship presents. Not even a week old the machine goes to their shop and comes back after the shop waited for over a month for parts. However the oil leaks were worse partly due to loose bolt but also still leaking at axle much worse. Again Troy-Bilt refuses to replace or refund telling me again my only recourse is their repair shops. So it goes to another shop and they have machine from March thru June.

They told me it was put together backwards. So now the knobs (which still fall off) are backwards. They told me the factory put it together wrong and charged me $900.00. They failed to remedy the throttle issue meaning we must stand in front of machine to adjust speed. They also failed to replace the bar used to engage and disengage the tiller which is very dangerous. The bar bends with every movement making it extremely dangerous to operate especially when trying to stop the tiller's motion. Based on MTD's business practices we will never purchase anything from MTD. That is Cub Cadet and all their others.

I bought this direct from Troy-Bilt and will not be purchasing a lawn mower from them this year. If you value life and limbs look elsewhere than MTD for their promises are worthless. I waited 90 days for part for an older smaller tiller. Decided to cancel order, two weeks later, the $100 gear part arrived. That tiller still sits all split up waiting for gear except the motor I placed on another tiller I bought used to try and get a garden in after it was obvious the shop kept lying, "Be done Friday, call Monday or Tuesday" for weeks and then months.

The little unit worked fine for a short time. However, it is the nature of snow throwers to occasionally encounter a small stone or rock. Because of the very light, nearly paper thin construction of the exhaust chute, a small stone gets propelled right through the plastic, destroying the chute and the ability to aim the snow discharge. The chute needs to be made of something much more sturdy. In addition, I had a problem where one side of the auger bracket, made of plastic, broke, disabling the machine. Again, poor materials used for the application. Just purchasing those parts totals half the cost of a new unit, and I have to do the repair.

Can't be fixed. I'm out several hundred dollars for big boat anchor. Troy-Bilt doesn't make it. Troy-Bilt doesn't service it. Troy-Bilt must have no pride at all. Lowe's was contacted and they had Altaquip, pick it up and repair it. That was a month ago. Today, we get a phone call, that the carburetor was bad, due to the use of old gas and it was going to cost us $247.00 to fix it and that the warranty was not going to cover it. This is total BS. The mower is less than 6 months old, used 3 times, with fresh gas. Unfortunate thing is, I read about problems with Troy-Bilt and I ignored them. Lowe's was useless since I didn't buy their scam extended contract. It broke just when I had one hour between weeks of rain to cut the lawn. Troy-Bilt service dealer said I had to get a copy of the receipt from 6 months ago, then he could look at it. In that time the snow will start to fall and I won't need it. This mower is a piece of crap. I put it to the curb and somebody took the engine off, which was a Honda. The deck and bag that is Troy-Bilt is some made in China ** or something. We bought a 2700 psi power washer from Lowe's. Brought it home. Went to start it and the pull cord dislodged after the 3rd use. Called Lowe's and they referred me to a service provider who will not stock Troy-Bilt products. Waited 2 weeks, got approval from MTD to have it repaired. Brought it home, tried to start it for an hour. Got frustrated and left it alone. Called the service provider back and they suggested new gas and a gas additive. I did what they suggested - still unable to start. Tried contacting Troy-Bilt - lol - automated messaging system and quite frankly, whoever designed this piece of crap obviously has never used one. The pull cord is 2 1/2 feet long. The connection for the hose is so close to the connection of the power washer wand hose that you can't disconnect them... It's ridiculous. They turn them out like popcorn and leave the consumer to fend for themselves. I will never buy another Troy-Bilt product EVER and if this isn't fixed, I will take a sledge hammer to the damn thing and put it on YouTube. Thanks for reading my rave.....

After a second call, I was told there were 274 back orders of this part. Considering it is the right front wheel of the mower, it would make a good anchor at this point. Never again.

Bought Troy-Bilt lawn mower at Lowe’s last year. Price was about what I expected to pay. Lawn mower wouldn't start after a three weeks – Lowe’s said to bring it back and exchange it out for another one. After a couple of uses, it's just like the first one. Advertised as 1-pull start. I don't need the mower to start on the first pull, I just need the mower to start, period. I overhauled everything, oil, gas, filter, spark plug, everything. Nothing. Not even shooting starter fluid into the carb will start it. Also what really ticked me off was that there is no plug to drain the oil you have to syphon it out. A real mess.

Before the purchase of the mower was one year, I took my receipt up to Lowe’s, they said go home get the mower and bring it back and we will ship it to the manufacturer and they will call you and they will tell you one of two things; either pick up your mower after they have serviced it or else come in and pick up a new mower. Great - another Troy-Bilt!! ** That was the end of July and I have never heard anything from them. I don't know anything. I went back up to Lowe’s and the customer service lady said "they will call you".

Well, is there any time frame to that? Nothing, nothing, don't know anything. For all I know, I just gave someone a lawn mower that looked like Lowe’s. They wrote a number on my original receipt of mower purchase and that's all I have. If they take a long time to get back to you, they should tell you the length of time it takes to hear from them. Really upset. I think the consequences are if you buy a $300 mower from Lowe’s that is a Troy-Bilt, then you get a lot of problems. Don't do it.

I purchased a Troy-Bilt Super Bronco riding lawn tractor 3 years ago. I thought it would be a good tractor based on Troy-Bilt's PAST reputation. What a piece of junk. I have spent hundreds of dollars every year fixing it. It broke on the second use and I had to fight with Lowe's to get it fixed under warranty. Last year, I replaced one deck spindle. This year another - it literally fell apart. I have replaced the main drive belt because of a design flaw that had the belt rubbing sharp bolt head. I literally had to redesign the belt path. A guide was designed to short and caused the belt to rub the bolt head, which someone thought to make as a tapered head so the edge was nice and sharp to cut the belt. It also was rubbing a pulley support by the transmission - I added a belt guide there.

The shift linkage broke - another expense. The shift linkage isn't much thicker than an old metal coat hanger, and about as flimsy. I redesigned the spring mechanism on the deck brake. It would not engage the pulley properly to stop the blades. If the support bolt was tightened so it would not come loose, the spring could not pull the brake closed into the pulley. I changed the spring angle and used a bigger spring. The book that Troy-Bilt has online for my model does not match the tractor. I sent emails to Troy-Bilt but they refused to believe the documentation was wrong or help me with any of the issues I was having. Pretty soon I will have a new tractor with replacement parts. Maybe then it will work for a whole season! The replacement parts are a much better quality than the original parts used on the tractor. I had MTD cheap tractor before that lasted 10 years. I know Troy-Bilt is now owned by MTD, and they have taken CHEAP to a new level. I would never recommend a Troy-Bilt anything - except for junk for the junk yard.

This unit lasted only two uses when the head gearing stripped and would no longer turn. 08-16-2013 - returned to Lowes where they once again exchanged with an entire new trimmer. I no longer have faith in Troy-Bilt products. Will either buy Stihl or Husqvarna in future. At least Lowes is giving us the $200 worth...I guess. I called Troy-Bilt and they told me to contact the nearest warranty service center. When I called them they told me that it wasn't covered due to the ethanol in the gasoline. This is the second Troy-Bilt weedeater I have purchased in the last 3 years. The warranty shop told me that they are only going to last about a year. In my opinion that is the worst product on the market. How can a company offer a warranty but not adhere to it? I will never purchase a Troy-Bilt product in my life. Bought a 42" Troy-Bilt zero from Lowe's 2-15-13. Had trouble with the tires going flat from the first time used. Talked to Lowe's several times with no results. Had one of the tubes out looking for a puncture when the tube exploded in my hand. Tube had split at the seam. Looked at the other tube & it was leaking air from that seam also. Went to Lowe's & showed Joey in the lawnmower section one of the tubes.. He said factory defect & was going to replace the tubes, but Lowe's does not carry them. Joey gave me the toll free # to call, 1-800-828-5500, & said Troy-Bilt would replace all 4 tires at no cost because they were covered by the warranty.

Called that # & talked to Brenda who referred me to R&J power equipment, 386-325-3356, in Palatka, FL 32177. She said they would replace all 4 tires. Called R&J & they refused to do so. Said they would need me to bring them the mower & determine if the tires were defective even though Joey at Lowe's had already looked at them & determined that they were. Told them I would bring in the tires but had no way to bring in the mower. The woman at R&J said they would pick up the mower for $50 & bring it back for another $50 but could not say that they would replace the tires even though Brenda at Troy-Bilt had said they would. I told her I was a senior citizen living on a fixed income & could not afford that. She replied that they would not do anything unless we paid the money.

Called Troy-Bilt back at the # Brenda had give me to call if I had trouble with R&J, 1-855-736-7601. Explained the situation to a man there & asked if they could send the tubes & tires if Lowe's called them & verified the defects. Was told that Troy-Bilt would do nothing. Called Lowe's & talked to Chris & explained what had happened. Asked if Lowe's could get the tubes & tires for me. Have not heard another word from Lowe's, Troy-Bilt or R&J power. Am thinking about renting a truck & returning the mower to Lowe's. This was a very expensive purchase for me & I am making payments on it. Because Troy-Bilt put defective tires on the mower, I am expected to pay for it. What has happened to honesty & standing behind the product that a company manufactures & then sells to the unsuspecting customer?
