We purchased a suite of Thermador appliances when we built our new home in Autumn of 2011. This is the THIRD ignition we have had to repair. We were told not to use the self-cleaning option because it causes burnout to the ignition. We have not used it but again the ignitor will not light the convection oven, which is the large side. We bought the oven because we like to entertain and nothing is worse than having a house full of people for dinner and the oven just won't light. The store where we purchased the range says go back to Thermador. Thermador says it is not longer under warranty. Very unsatisfied to have spent such a large amount on an appliance to have it unreliable. Will never buy another Bosch product nor will I recommend to anyone.

Just read about the experience of another consumer of thermador oven appliance. I had the same experience about 6 years ago with my relatively new thermador wall oven (MEDES/01). During a cleaning cycle, the bottom oven glass completely shattered. Could have been dangerous if I had been nearby. Shame on Thermador for not fixing this problem! Otherwise the oven has been good, even if a bit confusing at times to use due to the electronic panel (which also had to be replaced early on). Now after about 6 years, the lower oven heating element has stopped working, so I have called a local repair company. No problems with my Thermador warming oven! I love it!

Model #PDMW301J-USA. We just had this unit installed on Jan 31, 2014, turned on the self-cleaning mode for the first time yesterday, and the glass between the interior and exterior glass on the oven door shattered into tiny pieces approximately 1/2 hour into the cycle. The dealer has been very helpful in expediting a resolution, and the local repair guy recommended by the dealer has already ordered replacement glass and feels they won't have a problem with processing the warranty request.

We don't know yet how long it will take to get the replacement part, but very disappointed about the defect and worried that the next piece of glass will also be defective, rendering our new oven useless in the meantime. We were very pleased, however, about how well our first turkey turned out and the cooktop we purchased at the same times is performing nicely so far. The higher end dishwasher that came with the package is perfection (we paid extra for the upgrade on the dishwasher). I recommend that buyers of any Thermador oven unit have the installation technician run it through the self-clean mode before signing off on the install. Better yet, have the dealer do it before they deliver!

We bought a house with Thermador appliances already in it. The oven has never worked properly and I have had it serviced 3 times. It never heats up to the set temp and does not hold the heat. It is impossible to cook with. Thermador was no help. In fact they stated that I would have to replace the whole unit as they are not separate units. So, instead of spending $1600 to replace the oven, I would have to spend $6500 to replace the whole unit even though the micro & warming drawer do work. Well, I will not replace it with Thermador and will never buy any of their products ever again. Awful customer service.

We purchased a Thermador convection 30 inch built in microwave double oven when we did a complete remodel of our home back in 2001. The microwave broke the first day we used it. Broken glass ended up in my food. Service people replaced the glass, which subsequently broke again the second time we used the upper microwave. I was then informed by Thermador that the microwave actually was not meant to cook the food but just to keep it warm. I did not bother to fix the microwave again. The convection oven never worked welI. We tried multiple times and the food did not cook completely. The upper oven door is very heavy due to the combo microwave feature. The doors have broken three times over the years. We have replaced the hinges twice times since 2001: Once in Feb 2008 and again in Jan. 2014.

We were informed by an independent service man that the Thermador hinges are defective and that the company has known about this for years but has failed to inform the consumer. The new hinges that I just purchased apparently are the same defective hinges that I purchased prior. The company has made better hinges because the doors are too heavy, but they do not sell these to consumers. All I asked Thermador was to replace the defective hinges with the improved version but they refused. When our oven broke on New Years Eve, we had a house full of guests. Our oven was 350 degrees and would not close would not close, and it was a hazard to our guests. Our neighbors helped us tie up the oven with rope to keep it from burning the children. We feel strongly that the Thermador oven is an inferior product.

Thermador double oven ME302JS, Refrigerator T36BB810SS - We purchased a suite of appliances including a fridge, range top, double oven, and dishwasher. The double ovens function just fine. However they buzz very, very loudly. Service has been to our house four times to either diagnose or attempt a repair to no avail. The service techs have been pleasant to work with and I appreciate their efforts as they have expressed genuine frustration. They have also expressed frustration with Bosch as they haven't been helpful to find a solution.

The fridge suffers from a slow ice maker. After 24 hrs, the bin is only about two inches deep of ice. The motor was replaced, no success. Bosch told the techs to lower the temp from zero to -4. That didn't work either. The techs have asked for further help from a Bosch area rep on both issues but they haven't been forthcoming. I've also sought help from the store who sold us the appliances. They forwarded my video of the noise to Bosch personnel, but they haven't responded either. My patience has run out. If Bosch was responsive and helpful with a solution, this review would be more positive.

We remodeled our home of twenty-plus years and bought a 30" Thermador Pro Harmony gas range. One of the first times we used the oven we accidentally spilled some liquid on the front of it with the oven door open - it shorted out a circuit board that should have been protected. This was fixed very quickly under warranty and had no further problems with it.

Sold that house and bought another that needed a whole new kitchen. Bought a 36" Thermador Pro Harmony range and love it, no problems at all so far 1.5 years later. Along with that got the free dishwasher, Thermador though it's made by Bosch, works beautifully, quiet. Also have the 36" Thermador French Door, bottom freezer refrigerator with NO in-door water or ice to keep things simple. It's gorgeous, with brilliant LED lighting and lots of storage. With it came the free range hood that is strong and has good lighting, easy to clean grease filters. To finish things off we purchased the Thermador drawer microwave which we were a little leery of, but have grown to love it. No more awkward reaching into a wall-mounted unit, we pluck everything out of the drawer! No turn-table but do not miss it.

The 36" range has very flush grates making it easy to move pots around. The burners are very strong with great low simmer capabilities. The oven works well with roller bearing glides on the racks making them a breeze to pull in and out, even with the Thanksgiving turkey. Would definitely recommend Thermador to anyone, given our experience.

The large oven kept shutting off and the door doesn't shut. Resetting the breaker appeared to fix it, but didn't. Repairman came out and replaced the main board and relay board for $600. Now the large oven works, but the light does not go off in the large oven, and the fan runs continuously after using the small oven until you shut off the breaker. The repairman does not know why. He also informed me that Thermador no longer makes hinges for the large door, so I need to replace the entire door for $1200. Also charged $200 to replace the switch panel on the vent hood, which he was certain would fix the halogen lights. It didn't. Is anyone aware of a class action suit? Hundreds or thousands of complaints at $6-12K per range, it seems like there are millions of dollars to be recovered from Thermador.

We had the first Thermador induction cooktop installed a month ago, large center burner did not work. Technician came out and ordered a new PC Board, replaced the board a week later, still large center burner didn't work. Week later, installers came with a new cooktop. Guess what, center burner didn't work. I am currently waiting for yet another one that they promise me was "tested" and works. Needless to say, I have taken 4 mornings off from work waiting for servicemen to first diagnose, then fix, then replace, and now replace again.

Dealer is doing their part but I called Thermador directly and spoke to a supervisor in customer service. Her reply after my story was, "What more do you want, you are getting a replacement!" What I really wanted was an apology but her attitude was so laissez faire it perturbed me more. This cooktop replaced a GE Profile that lasted 10 years before the remodel with no problems whatsoever. I live in British Columbia, Canada. I have a Thermador gas stove PRSG304 which I love when it is working. It is the heart of my house. HOWEVER it requires replacement of switches and the BK igniter about every two years at a cost of about $300. So now we are looking at about $1,000 in repairs since I have had it. I have sucked that up, but now I can't even get service. This year, the local authorized repair guy took three weeks to come out, said he'd order the parts and then never came back despite phone calls. The second authorized repair guy could also not get out for three weeks and then did not show up for scheduled appointments twice, also despite calls and confirmation, so I gave up on him. I finally got in touch directly with Thermador Canada. They sent out a guy three weeks ago who said he would provide me with an estimate and order the parts. Still no estimate for the repair. They say he's coming back on November 15th but I have no idea of what it's going to cost. I have phoned them 4 times and still nothing even though they commit to getting back to me. I have now been without two burners and my oven for several months. Why on earth would I ever buy Thermador again???? All I have is a beautiful piece of junk in my kitchen.

Unfortunately I only received two and they were black where the original knobs were "chrome-like" covered plastic. So I had to order another set of 2. Brand Source was at least helpful in not charging another freight fee because of the manufacturer’s having changed the look and color from the original knobs. Final installation was stopped at that point. I tried to have the authorized dealer from which I purchased this replace but I was informed that Thermador repairs before they replace. So, call was made to authorized repair shop who came out on Sept 4 and said parts needed to be ordered and would take 5-7 days. Wrong. Parts may have arrived but I do not know as my service date of Sept 25 was cancelled on September 25 because the technician requires a helper for this repair and now scheduled for earliest possible time Oct 3.

I have been in constant contact with customer service and have been requesting a replacement as this equipment has never worked properly. I have no cooktop and a kitchen with pots and pans that belong in cabinets under the cooktop in a little red wagon blocking the way. Customer service has been very kind and understanding but emphatic that the repair must proceed. I even faxed all appropriate documents to a "supervisor" for review but have been informed today that the repair not replacement is policy. So much for accepting responsibility for defective equipment. Wish I had bought from Sears. Will update if anything is resolved. I think the repair is not going to fix the problem. Thermador SC302T Double built-in ovens. - There have to be the worst appliances for parts availability, reliability and service. You pay Cadillac prices and end up with Yugo reliability. Although the oven is now 12 years old, during this time, it has been nothing but trouble. After the first year, the display started to fade until it was gone. Clearly, someone decided to save 1/10 of a cent per oven by using poor tolerance capacitors in a hot environment. Hey, they made an extra cent, and the customer had to pay 125 dollars for the part and a couple of hundred for a service call. Fast forward two years, same story. The second unit died a couple of years later. By this time, there were no replacements, so I sat with a dark screen for a couple of years. Some time, Thermador changed hands and BSH started making the displays, AND control panel as a unit for 450 dollars. The upper oven temperature was failing, due to the temperature control module. I purchased the board and control, and made the replacement myself. I'm sure that in another 2 years, it will need to be replaced again by which time I suspect the parts will be obsolete and unavailable.

We moved into our home in 2007. Previous owner had just redone kitchen, went high end on appliances not knowing they were going to have job transfer. Recently Thermador downdraft fan stopped working properly. Figured it was out of warranty by now, I took a look to see if it was a switch I could replace - discovered it had a circuit board. I was shocked to see that the circuit board had started to melt along with the wires leading to it. I called Thermador, said I knew it must be out of warranty by now - but it seemed like a defect in manufacturing or design flaw and a fire hazard. After many calls, Thermador reluctantly agreed to send someone at their expense to "diagnose". The technician informed me it happens all the time.

I maintain for the amount of money spent on this type of product one should expect it to last longer than five or six years, and of all the appliances I have ever owned, it is the only one that has ever had a part that melted and posed a fire hazard. Thermador refuses to make good - "it is out of warranty" and it is "normal wear and tear". I recorded my last conversation with Thermador. The audio, as well as pictures of the melted circuit board and wires and a video of it sparking and smoking can be found on you tube under the user **. I now have a stove in the middle of the kitchen with no ventilation.

I want others - who own one of these or are contemplating the purchase of one - to understand the risk and I would like the Thermador to remedy the situation. I have not yet explored whether I am limited to a Thermador brand based on the dimensions of the hole in the granite countertop.

Just FYI - you can buy the current built-in microwave ($900) alone and rig it to fit in the space of the old microwave in the tower. The faceplate (another $350) is different and we're still working on getting to look as good as the original, but at least we don't have a big unfinished hole in the wall over the oven. It still cost us $1,400 total by the time we were done which is also a huge amount just for a microwave. The whole experience was total crap. Never again.

We have purchased a house with 5-year old all Thermador top of the line appliances. The refrigerator had a chronic problem with the ice and water dispenser leaking and not working adequately on any level. I called Thermador, and they recommended their local factory certified technician. He has made one repair with no results. The second repair involved replacing the door on the dispensers, as well as the optical sensors, with no change in results. I called Thermador and received a rude and uncooperative attendant, who refused to transfer me to a supervisor or give me information as to how to contact the service manager. I say, if you are in the luxury item market, you need to have that level of customer service. I think either a class action suit or a social media storm should get Thermador’s attention. Also, remember to research a company service record before purchasing anything.

Thermador customer service is rude and, frankly, couldn't care less. I even wrote to the CEO of Thermador, who also responded briefly, rudely and offered no solution, other than, "Oh well, you are past your 1-year warranty." The company I purchased the ovens from has offered to buy out our warranty, as they cannot find anyone to repair these so-called high-end ovens. But I am still stuck with a costly oven that does not work and is less than 5 years old. The old saying that you get what you pay for is not true. I'm currently in a dispute with them about this. One of their customer service reps was helpful and told me the correct part number. I told a subsequent rep that he did this so I shouldn't be charged the restocking fee because I didn't choose the part. The local appliance parts store I use told me that Thermador was the absolute worst company for parts, and in many cases, he refuses to deal with them because of their customer service.

After some ordeal, I finally got to order both of these items. The circuit board was shipped and the housing is on backorder. I purchased a 30" Stainless Steel Thermador Range Hood HSB30BS in June of 2008. Within a year and a half and six months out of warranty, the buttons that control the fan and the light began to come off. They are push buttons and are configured in such a way that when you press one to change the fan speed, another will be pushed out and deactivated - similar to an old style car radio with mechanical buttons. The problem is that the sub-assembly that receives the metal buttons is a square plastic peg and the button itself on the inside is round. The proverbial square peg in a round hole. The plastic gets worn and the buttons shoot off when they are pushed. I asked for the repairman to leave the sub-assembly with me after the repair ($350.00) to see exactly what went wrong. The hood cost me $700.00 new. So now that it is broken again, it does not make sense making the same repair again with a poorly designed part.

I contacted Thermador the first time it broke and the best they could offer me was 10% off of the cost of the replacement part. I was busy at the time and was not able to write a proper letter to someone at Thermador, but I have to wonder if the results would have been much different. I have a Thermador stove as well that had a cooling fan motor ($300.00) repair just a little over a year and half after purchase. This one was out of warranty too. The stove cost $3,700.00. So I am, for obvious reasons, not a great fan of Thermador. I had two other repair calls on the stove to deal with a faulty ignitor, but they were thankfully covered by the initial warranty.

I have never been a complainer, but it is hard for me to believe that I have just had bad luck with this company's products. I am a contractor by trade and like some of BSH's products. Bosch makes good tools and others that are not so good. At a certain price point though, my expectations go way up. Thermador looks nice and that's about the only nice thing I can say.

The fan comes on, we smell gas, but no heat (oh, and the light has been stuck on since a few weeks after purchase and the stove top burners have a habit of randomly firing the igniters, even when the stove is off). I was led into buying a complete Thermador kitchen when I remodeled. I got top of the line Thermador Freedom tower fridge/freezer at $6000, 40" double oven at $3000, stainless dishwasher, forget price, and a range top. The stove top is the only one still functioning after three years. Every other unit has failed multiple times, both in and out of warranty. None of the issues were ever addressed by Thermador. The oven was so broken I got a credit card refund after a long dispute over 18 months after the purchase date.

As a software engineer, I can tell that all these problems are from poorly written software. The behavior is characteristic of inexperienced developers and poor error handling. I contacted the Western US distributor director and suggested that he contact me if he wanted some objective feedback on the oven problems.

I had a conference call with Thermador engineers and they truly had no idea how an oven controller is supposed to work. They claimed that the oven knew better what temperature to use than the user and as such it never got hot enough. Apparently, it second-guesses the cook and decides on some other temperature based on a combination of sensor readings.

The freezer failed after about 14 months when the ice maker unit self destructed and was going to cost 40% of a new freezer to fix. I declared time of death on the fridge when the main controller ceased communicating with any of the peripherals. I had been diligently replacing them as they failed but once the "brain" died, it was over, too much money to replace. The dishwasher, well, who ever thought a dishwasher needed an on/off button? With Thermador, you need one so you can reboot it frequently when it locks up. I guess this is the least problematic unit. All the plastic gizmos for flip up trays, etc. have all broken off in the the first six months. OK, I lied, this one's still working. 1 out of 3, after a > $10K outlay. Never again.

I purchased more than $20,000 worth of Thermador appliances in 2007 for a whole kitchen remodel. Fortunately, I also purchased an extended warranty as well. The oven was installed in June 2007. The first problem within the first week was when the ignitor for large oven was not working properly, and nearly made the oven explode. Since that time, I have had over 10 service calls for the same problem. The large and small ovens are not working, and the x-lo burners are not working, or not cycling off and on as well. I have had ignitors replaced, and control boards replaced, numerous times (ignitor gap adjustments, etc.), all to no avail. It works for two or three months, then stops working altogether.

This was my third ruined Thanksgiving dinner. I told Maytag (the extended warranty company) that I wanted a replacement oven. They pretty much laughed at me. Unless the same item has been replaced three times within a calendar year, they will not replace it,and they'll only fix it. At this point, after reading all of these complaints, I don't think it would do me much good to get a new one, because they apparently only make junk, which will obviously not work anyway. Not what I had hoped for, out of an $8,000.00 stove. I placed a complaint with the BBB, but there were already four on there that had not been responded to by Thermador. What a surprise. I can not believe that this company is getting away with this. Isn't there a law against knowingly selling faulty equipment? Buyers beware! Now, I am stuck with an oven that cost as much as a used car, and I will have to continue to pay for an extended warranty, just so I don't get stuck with the bi-monthly repair bills.

Thought I'd add my 2 cents. I gave up on Thermador 15 years ago when we remodeled our kitchen using all Thermador products (with the exception of the Sub-Zero refrigerator).

Thermador Double Oven and microwave: Immediately, the knobs were unscrewing and falling off. Eventually, the oven lock handle hardware fell off and was lost. This is an old style "venting" oven and the self-clean is unreliable. There is a switch that measures the flow of the vent and if it is too low, it will not allow self-clean. You have to take out the oven, clean the switch and adjust the vent tubing about once a year if you want to continue to use the self-cleaning function. After 10 years, the microwave magnetometer broke. This is a 600 watt microwave. Thermador charges over $500 for the replacement part. Needless to say, we just went out and bought a 1000 watt separate microwave on sale for $80 instead of repairing.

Thermador stove top: The electric ignition is horrid. You turn on a burner and it often continues to click, click, click until you turn on all the burners and let them run for a few minutes. You turn the burner to low and it often starts clicking again. After 3 or 4 years, the ceramic coating on the burners was cracked and flaking. We bought replacements and they also cracked and flaked after 3 years and at that point, Thermador had stopped making replacement burners for the stove. Eventually, the burners got so bad they didn't work properly and the stove had to be replaced.

Thermador Dishwasher: After 6 years, the dishwasher racks had rusted through. Thermador did not have any replacement racks as they no longer supported the product. When we got sick of using wire hangers, we broke down and purchased a Bosch replacement.

So on average, our Thermador products were usable for about 6-8 years. We were promised these were top of the line appliances and they would be a longterm investment. I really can't believe they stay in business. I guess if you charge significantly over the market price for your cheap products, people will just believe it must be high quality. Stay away from Thermador. Caveat Emptor!

The hood is apparently not the correct hood because there is no way to fasten this hood to the range. Before buying this Thermador range, we researched online and found Thermador had quality issues but it was reported that the quality of their products was improved.

Don't believe it. With the problems we have had with this range and for what we paid for the range, we should not be having any problems at all. Instead, I am spending an inordinate time on the phone with their customer service, taking time off work to be at the house for multiple visits by the repair people who do not have any spare parts, so it's a minimum of two trips for each issue. And, oh, by the way, the hood that is not connected to the stove. which I believe to be a safety issue, is according to the Thermador representative not Thermador's problem. I am now trying to get the correct hood resolved with Kitchen Design Specialists from whom we bought the stove. It's more phone calls and more time. Beware of this second rate manufacturer.

I have had oven problem with Thermador Gas Range PRG3666EH/07. The top gas burners all work, but the oven does not start. Our range is only 18 months old. I bought it from Abt Chicago in April 2009. Not good for a range that costs $5,000! The Thermador service person (at 1-800) was not helpful, focused on our range being out of warranty, mentioned that the gas pressure may be too low and would not troubleshoot the problem over the phone.

The range worked for 18 months! Give me a break! When turning the main knob (bake/convection bake/off/light/broil) the blue lights (preheating/heating) turn on and off with sometimes a clicking sound, or sometimes everything is silent. Sometimes these blue lights turn on on their own when not using the range. I am not impressed by Thermador. I wish I had bought a Viking.

I bought an MBES/01 Microwave on January 2010 and its memory chip burned when installed. We had to wait almost a month to get it repaired. Now, the latch to the door which is made of plastic broke and it's been three weeks to get it repaired. It seems that the company has dropped the ball on this top of the line products. Parts are not available and not enough technician to service the units. When calling for service, you need to call Thermador to arrange the service and it takes about a week to get service, another few weeks to get the parts and another week for installing the part after that.

This company and others are being manhandle by the foreign makers of such products. Thermador needs better control of their products and quality of their products. We are being bombarded by junk and we are paying a premium for junk. $600 for a built-in non-convection microwave that supposed to be top of the line and it broke down twice in less than a year is not worth buying anymore. Samsung and LG seem to have corner the market with better products, but whatever happened to total quality management that we started in this country and now the littlest countries are using it and producing better products.

Why can't we produce our own top quality product? We have the talent and expertise plus the equipment to make it happen. Why do we have to pay such a high price for junk that the companies themselves don't check. They don't care about the consumers, only about the profits. We used to be a proud nation. Now, we are dependent on other countries to produce for us and their product are not all that great. Whatever happened to our pride in quality? We created it and had the Japanese apply it on their products. Now, they're producing better things than we do. It's a shame and seems that no one cares.

I called Thermador service, now operated by Bosch, on a Monday before Thanksgiving. The technician came on Tuesday morning, as promised. The tech had no idea of the problem, even though it was spelled out with the CRM the day before. The tech had to order parts from CA and said they would be back in 3 weeks to install. With over 20 people from out of state coming over for Thanksgiving, I was freaked out and in shock. No one could care, the tech said this was not his issue and was not in his region anyway. I called CA office 10 times between Tuesday and Wednesday only to find out that the parts would be there (NYC) on Wednesday but there was no one to install them.

I begged and offered money for overtime, but to no avail. When I asked what we should do with our Thanksgiving and our out of state guests, she said "I can't help you" and so on. They made no effort. I would never buy Bosch or Thermador products again. This was not the first incident with them and won't be the last. Very disappointing how little effort they made. Today is Friday November 26, 2010. My smw272 built-in oven was purchased on August 2003. So far I've had to replace the bake element twice, the convection element twice, and the mother board. Less than a year after the motherboard was replaced, the LED readout went completely black. For the past 6 months and as of Wednesday the 24th, one side was always hotter by 25 degrees and it took 30 to 45 minutes to preheat.

Yesterday, on Thursday November 25, 2010 (Thanksgiving Day), the motherboard went out again and I had no oven at all to cook dinner with. Not only that, but this is the second Thanksgiving that the oven stopped working completely. Is this what's known as Thermador quality?

I have cooked on at least 12-14 different ovens over the last 40 years, some in deplorable condition, but this is the absolute first time I've ever experienced such shoddy workmanship. None of the other ovens had a problem greater than a 5 degree variance or the light bulb burning out. This is the most overpriced piece of pure junk I've ever purchased! Thermador is a rip off to the consumer. If I repair, instead of replace, the oven again, I will have paid in excess of another $1,000.00 towards the equipment. The original price was over $2,000.00 when purchased new.

When the burner shut itself off, it has not came back on again. I moved the pan, only to have the second burner do the same thing. I paid over $8,000 for the range. You would think it would last longer than a few years before it would fall apart. It is only about 5-6 years old. This range is draining me.

We have had problems with Thermador Oven, Model # SC301T, since date of purchase. The local repair company would fix it (under warranty) but now that the unit is out of warranty, we are of course being charged for the same problems/repairs that had previously occurred.

The latest episode is concerning the self-cleaning operation. During the self-cleaning mode, the oven starts beeping, gives error messages, etc. and the only way it can be cleared is to turn the breaker to the oven off. This most recent episode caused the oven to lock up and we now cannot open the oven door! The repair company will come out to replace the part for the recall (so it won't start on fire!) but says that they will need to charge us to diagnose why the oven went in lock mode and thus, we can't open the door and or obviously use our oven! Again, this has only occurred when using the self-cleaning option.

We can't use the oven at all - it is locked up! A diagnosis service call from the authorized appliance company is $172.90; not to include the cost of the parts which will be well over $300! Thus, we are paying over $500 for an a service/repair that has occurred over and over again. We would like to have Thermador step up to the plate and either get it fixed for good or provide us with a new unit.

I have the POM30 Professional wall oven/microwave combo, purchased from Allen and Peterson here in Alaska. What a nightmare this unit and dealing with Thermador customer service has been. The clock doesn't keep up. Unit emits 5 loud shrill beeps when started, when you allegedly reach temperature, any time the door is opened and randomly throughout the cooking cycle.

Thermador's response to the low temp, slow cook time was, "Well, we've found with that unit that after it beeps to tell you it's at temp. You have to give it another 15 minutes to let the corners heat up." Are you kidding me? Their response to the beeps was to replace the motherboard. When that didn't work and I kept calling, they then said it's normal. I asked what purpose the random beeps served and they'd say, "Well, we don't know. " I asked them to ask their engineers. Long story short, I finally had to call them again, ask what they'd found. They thought maybe the door wasn't sealing and the oven was beeping because it thought the door was open.

This was over the course of a year and numerous phone calls on my part to the point where they started to become very rude on the phone and suggest I was the problem, not the oven. I had people listen to me as I talked with them on the phone, and all agreed I was calm and not abusive in any way because after awhile I started to wonder if somehow I was coming across wrong.

They are horrid people to deal with. I thought I was getting a premium, professional product. I cringe every time someone moves towards this oven because I know we're in for a few hours of random, shrill beeps, and Thermador won't do anything about it. I'm going to try and sell it on Craig's List, then just dump it on Allen and Peterson's front doorstep if it won't sell.

On Dec. 28, 1999, we moved in to our newly built home where I had installed a SC302T built in double oven. On 10/16/01, the temperature module went out and was replaced. On 9/13/04, the module went out again and was replaced on 9/29/04. On 2/22/06, the module went out again and was replaced on 3/3/06. On 8/20/06, I got an F4 reading, same as I started getting when the module went every time before. I got another F4 reading on 4/3/07 then again on 1/2/08. I nursed the unit along finding that if I used the unit, turned it off and tried to turn it on, it wouldn't work so I would have to do all my baking in one day.

Sometime on 2009, I email Thermador and complained that I needed the module replaced and how many times it had already been replaced and they told me to hire a repair man to find out what was going on. I don't need to spend money on a repairman when I can deduce what is wrong. Every time the unit is cleaned the heat escapes up to the module adversely affecting it. I can see the excess heat marks. This unit cost over $2500 in 1999! I told Thermador I felt it was a lemon and now seeing the similar postings here my suspicions are confirmed.

The module is now no longer made and I can have it remanufactured for a cost to me of $300 to $400 counting the repairman's time to remove and ship plus a total of three weeks down time. We bought a Thermador Gas Range PG304BLP/02 in 2005. Within the first 3 months we had a problem with the starter for the oven - the oven would start, the gas would start and then it would turn off. They tried to fix the problem three times, with us waiting weeks between them getting us replacement parts - so weeks of no oven. Finally we demanded a new oven and got it.

We had no problem until two months ago when the oven just stopped working including the light. We called Thermador and they had a local guy come and check it out and he played around with it and cleaned the rear filter and thought it might be fixed. Then we had a power outage two weeks ago. When the power came on the oven and the cleaning light were both flashing and lo and behold the oven and light didn't work. We tried the breaker multiple times and each time had a different reaction from the stove, ranging from nothing to it turning itself on full!

We had the repair company come again and they said that the electrical board was blown and that they see this all the time with these stoves. They ordered the part ($800 for everything, which is mostly the part). The repair guys were also able to get the stove working temporarily. One week later the repair guys came back with the part. They opened up the stove and tried to install the part and found that Thermador had sent the wrong one. They told us that they would come back with the new part and it would not cost us any more, which is actually really nice of the repair guys.

But the part was back-ordered for a month! They put everything back together and the lights started blinking again and the oven didn't work again. So now we have no oven for a month and we have to keep the fuse off, which prevents two of the burners from working. We are forced to cook for a month with only two burners. Great quality appliances....not! No damage, except we were just not able to use a $3000 stove for a month because of faulty parts and no stock replacement parts.

I purchased Thermador Masterpiece double wall oven, a Thermador 6 burner + griddle cooktop, vent and blower in November 2008. They sat in the garage during our remodeling until September 2009. During installation, I needed additional wiring for the blower as it is located remotely from the vent. Thermador only gives you a couple of feet of wiring although they do give you the wiring couplings for an extra piece. Then I contacted Thermador, they tried to tell me to use Romex rather than a color coded 6-lead low voltage (control) wire. They were clueless. I hung up. Since the blower is in the garage, I had to use "rated" wire since it went through the garage wall.

Well, guess what? Try to find 6-lead low voltage rated wire. Good freaking luck. After four days of searching, I found a company online that had something. I needed 6ft of wire. Their minimum purchase was a 5,000 ft coil. Fortunately, they found a 35ft piece of scrap they sent to me for $25. That was the easy part. My cooktop griddle is a piece of crap. It's electric but it still take a ridiculously long time to heat up. Even on high (500 degrees) pancakes take about 15 minutes and they don't cook evenly. The "drip pan" coating flaked off after about two weeks. My double oven doesn't work right at all. It seems to be the control board. It takes a long time to heat up. If you open the door, the oven cools down then doesn't reheat. You have to set the temperature to 25 degrees higher than you want. The lower oven doesn't have the fast preheat function.

Now, when you press the oven light button, some other menu comes up and the light doesn't come on. All in all, I'll never buy Thermador again. Too bad too because my old Thermador cooktop was great. By the way, Thermador would not honor the $500 rebate promised by AJ Madison. We haven't seen anything. I think everything we bought from AJ Madison (online retailer) were seconds, refurbished or something. We've had issues with almost everything.

July 2009, I purchased Thermador refrigerator (T361T71FNS/01). Fridge was delivered and installed late August 2009. The refrigerator did not cool properly and the freezer not at all. In September the first so-called certified service repair person attempted to repair frig. Unable to make the repair on the first visit, a part had to be ordered. Several weeks later a second unsuccessful attempt was made. A second certified service repair person was then sent out in October, November and December. While he was able to get the refrigerator portion of the unit to chill properly, the freezer portion was still not functioning at all. When I complained to Thermador customer service, I was told that the unit could not be replaced until it was determined "Not repairable.”

Four months without a fully functioning refrigerator which their specially trained repair men and I was force to wait as each so-called repair failed and another part had to be ordered. When I asked for a replacement because it was apparent the unit I have is a "lemon," the response was there were no units available. They had not been able to find another unit in the entire USA. The cargo ship had not yet reached our borders and would not until mid February or March or even April. And on January 2010 the third repair was attempted and failed. I've been advised that a store credit is going to be issued. The fact that I was sold a unit that did not work and the major inconvenience it caused me was never a concern with Thermador. Unfortunately I also purchased a stove and hood and dishwasher at the same time, but I will never recommend Thermador to anyone who would listen.

The damage was the level of mental stress. I did a complete renovation of my first floor, which was stressful enough. Having survived that, I was ready to settle into completely new place. You can not appreciate the convenience of a cold refrigerator and freezer until you do not have one. I had planned to have Thanksgiving dinner at my new place. I hoped for Xmas, but no. And through all of this Thermador is telling me it's repairable but not one of the 3 persons sent out could fix it. To say I have been stressed out for the pass 5 months is really an under statement. It disrupted my life for nearly half a year and it is not over yet. Thermador says a store credit was issued; however, the last repair man said he ordered more parts.

I purchased a floor model Thermador Dual Fuel Convection oven about 8 months ago. The unit was set up for natural gas and needed to be converted to LP. When I bought the unit, the store told me they did not do the conversion. I would have to call Thermador, get the parts and have them put on. No problem. They even discounted the stove to make up for the inconvenience or so I thought. They just discounted it to get rid of it. I called Thermador and was told the part was no longer available. What? This was a brand new unit. After weeks of searching the internet, I found a place that had the parts for the changeover. I had the parts installed and thought everything was good.

For about 30 days the oven worked great. Then it seemed like it started not heating properly and then no heat at all. The bottom coil had burnt out. I am not sinking any more into this thing. Yesterday went and bought a new oven, not Thermador. Guess what? Everything works as it should. As the switch out was made, the front glass fell out of the oven. Glad this didn't happen when it was hot and my kids were near. I spent half the money and got twice the oven. More expensive does not mean better.

My blower went about 3 years later (convenient, right after the warranty expired). Then the self-cleaning stopped working, then a crack appeared across the top, then 2 burners stopped working. Then the oven stopped coming on altogether. I will never even consider this piece of crap again.

From the very first day we had the same problem as many of the other contributors. the oven stopped working within 6 months. As described by others, we were getting a whooshing and popping noise from the oven. When I looked through the gap at the burner, it was half igniting then going off completely, then flaming up then parping and coughing. aLL the time giving off a smell of gas. We called the supplier who said an engineer would contact us, He duly arrived and replaced the ignitor. The oven worked for about 9 months, just enough to get it out of warrenty!we have had this thing four years. The oven does not now function at all. The appointed agent in the UK wants approximately $1500 to repair it. All the screws internally have seized, I am guessing due to electrolytic reaction, as they are not compatable. An Internet research of the problem revealed that this was a common problem that had persisted for some time. Thermador apparently had no problem selling these incredibly expensive units knowing full well of the flaw. I guess they figured that the public would just have to put up with the inconvenience. It has been about nine months from the last repair (it took several visits to finally repair the problem the first time) and guess what? The oven is once again, not working. I am flabbergasted that even after spending thousands of dollars on a luxury oven and range that we would have these kinds of problems. I suppose that Thermador concludes it no skin off their nose that I had a ruined dinner party this evening due to the fact I could not properly prepare the meal. Two weeks ago, it was installed. The very next day, I used cooktop to make a pot of spaghetti sauce - cooked sauce 4 to 6 hours. I used the simmer option at 2.5 hour interval. The control knob was extremely "hot" to touch. Husband contacted Thermador and was told "they are aware of problem," and referred us to a local service agent. The local agent told us they would not schedule visit since this was a "safety issue".

Thermador returned husband's call and said they were aware of concern and we should not use a pot with a diameter greater than 8" as heat permeates from burner to stainless control knob. We advised Thermador rep that front burners w/ simmer feature was an option and we were told it was meant for use with long-cooking meals. Such meals do not use smaller pots and there is nowhere in the owner's manual that states you must use a pot smaller than 8 inches. We advised Thermador we want a solution as our 13-year old cooks a lot and we do not want her safety jeopardized. Thermador rep recently recontacted my husband and said the unit is operating as "designed". Most recently, even the replacement parts have been defective much to our frustration and to the local technicians. Thermador apparently just told the technicians that their supplier made defective parts. The technicians just returned our payment to them and told us to get a new stove from a different manufacturer! Over the last six years, we have spent in excess of $500 in repairs to keep the oven going. Each time the oven went out, it was three weeks or more to get new parts and have the appliance fixed. Now it seems permanently out.

Further, the oven has so much heat escaping from the front side of the oven that the white therma-foil covering on the adjacent cupboards had shrunk. A lesser, but still annoying problem, is the burner grills. The ceramic has chipped away from the grills and in other areas has left crazing. While the stove was under warranty, Thermador replaced the grills but said this will continue to happen and it has.

Thermador replaced the part the first time as a "courtesy", but doesn't want to hear about it this time. The suggested finding a 3rd party parts distributor/dealer who could do the repair. The part, if available at Thermador (it is not), costs approx. $300.00 not including installation labor, whic is probably several hundred more. The only reasonably feasible course is to dismantle the top control module yourself and ship it to a company near Chicago who says it can repair the unit at a cost of only $172.00 including shipping and handling. Of course, taking the control module apart and removing the display unit and the two control boards is not easy. I may have to resort to an repair service so the job gets done right. There's always the possiblity however, that the part will fail again after awhile, rendering the wall oven(s) useless. Rather than cause us more inconvenience and hassle, my wife and I decided to put up with the irritating problem. In 2004, I was in the kitchen and began to smell smoke. It was coming from the range. THE STOVE TOP NOR THE OVEN WERE ON. I turned off the breaker and called the service company. They disgnosed the problem as a "bad relay". It was replaced along with other damaged parts. On April 8, 2009, I was standing close to the range when I suddenly began to hear a crackling sound coming from it. I began to smell smoke and bent down to see where it was coming from and fire began to shoot out of an area just above the oven door. I shot it with our fire extinguisher and ran to our garage and turned off the breaker which should have tripped. I called the service company. Again, it was determined, "fire started from relay". THE STOVE TOP NOR THE OVEN WERE ON. The range is now a total loss due to the fact that Thermador stopped making the required parts. It is only 15 years old. My in-laws recently replaced their GE range rather than repair it, it was 60 years old. There were parts available. I contacted Thermador/BSH but they were un-willing to compensate us for anything. The service tech mentioned that it might be a good thing that it can't be repaired, it was a very dangerous appliance. We agree. The fire instantly melted metal and this was next to the gas tubes. The fire would have spread very quickly. Our electrician stated that he would refuse any job that has anything to do with a Thermador product. The GSCB30 range was a faulty design with faulty dangerous parts. It should have been recalled. We are very fortuneate that I was present when this occured. It could have caused the loss of our property and our dog. Had it occured in the middle of the night, it could have cost us our lives. We will never purchase any product made by Thermador or BSH. We urge every consumer to do the same.

We purchased our Thermadore Built In Ovens(Model SCD302T)in 2000. Our digital display hasn't been working because the circuit failed in it months ago for the third time (it breaks down about every 2-3 years requiring expensive and hard to find parts). Thermadore apparantly knows there is a problem with these ovens as they are no longer sold and they don't make the parts. I am very unhappy with my Thermadore oven and recommend oven shoppers to go the opposite way when you see a Thermadore appliance. I have an oven that I never know if I set the temperature or timer correctly because you can't see the read out to check yourself. I also can't use the self-timer because I never know if I set it correctly for the same reason. If there is a class action suit please let me know!

Two years or so after purchasing an expensive Thermador SC302 double-oven, the control panel dimmed. The unit was out of warranty so I quietly accepted the associated aggravation and paid for the cost to replace the necessary parts. A few years later, 2008/2009, the same thing has happened and Thermador expects me to suffer the same aggravation and cost yet again. A quick Google search reveals that many others have the same problem so obviously it's a design issue that needs to be or may have been corrected. I have other, less problematic concerns with their cook top down-draft system. As a business owner, I extended the courtesy of writing to Thermador. It has been 3 months without the courtesy of a reply. This non-forward looking company now puts us in a position of seeking a legal remedy. If there is a class action suit pending, please include me as well.

Here are the invoices from Brandts for repairing the Thermador oven, which despite minimal use since installation completely crashed in November. It required a new relay board (the brains?) which cost us $341.06 as per the attached invoice. I understand that the original guarantee is no longer valid because of the time elapsed since COO; however, as you know, we have only visited the house on 2-3 occasions over the last 2 years and for no longer than 2 weeks each time. Therefore, I feel that this is an unacceptable performance from a reputable manufacturer. I would be grateful if you could pass along our disappointment to the company and a request for reimbursement.

The second invoice relates to the Viking range which despite multiple efforts and replacements still occasionally takes time for the ignition sensor to switch off. Again, this has not nearly had a normal year's use, given our short stays since COO and I feel very disappointed in the manufacturer. I would be grateful for any assistance you can provide in bringing this to their attention and seeking reimbursement.

We purchased our Thermador double ovens in 2004 and they were not installed until 2005 - the 1-year warranty is useless. First service call was to recalibrate (it was almost 50 degrees low). The second service call (also within the first year of use) was to replace the heating element for the upper convection unit. Now, in the third year of use, the control panel is too dim to read. On rare occasions, you can read it - there was no explanation as to why. I am afraid to replace it. After reading all of the other horror stories, I'm in fear that worse things could happen with a new panel. Maybe it will stop working altogether or give error codes. I am in the design and engineering field. I am helping clients choose appliances right now. They are the ones who found this website and forwarded it to me. I will never recommend a Thermador appliance to anyone and will tell all my future clients to avoid them completely. Thank you to everyone who has reported.

On February 1, 2009, I noticed that my refrigerator is not cooling anymore, so I contacted Thermador. They told me that I have no manufacturer's warranty so I should go with my extended warranty which was not correct. I did it but after two appointments, each one 1 week apart, All Valley Appliances notified me that they cannot fix it. I called Thermador for my manufacturer's warranty and after 30 minutes on the phone, they finally found out that I was right so Thermador made an appointment with a company called All Kitchen Appliances. When I called to confirm my appointment, that company stated that they do not fix refrigerator. I called back Thermador and they gave me information about Pro-Teck Appliance Service, Inc. They looked at my refrigerator and ordered parts. It took 2 weeks to get parts, and then they came to fix my refrigerator on March 11, 2009. Three days later, same problem occurred. I called Thermador. They said we cannot do anything. I have to call Pro-Teck, so I did. This time, to get the parts and to do the repair took over one month. They fixed my refrigerator today, April 14, 2009.

When we remodeled our kitchen 9 years ago, we selected a Thermador double oven unit (Model SCD 272). Within a year and a half, after several service calls, we had to have the entire unit replaced (the distributor picked up the tab). The newer unit has also had its problems - the front panel went haywire and had to be replaced (parts were under warranty - the labor was not), and the lower door has had problems closing well (it stays ajar, heat escapes, the light stays on). This problem has been fixed twice, and now it has happened a third time. The spring or closing mechanism wears out, and an expensive service call is the result. We also have a Thermador cooktop, which has also had a half-dozen service calls in the past 9 years. I am disgusted with this brand name and will never buy Thermador again.

In 2006, I bought a stovetop made by Thermador and had it installed later that year in my remodeled kitchen. Last year, three burners stopped working and the electronic ignitor would not stop clicking. Since then, I have had two service people check it out and have found that it is not reasonable to have it repaired since it would cost as much as the appliance cost in the first place. The problem is that they used incompatible metals in the burners and what was designed to unscrew has fused, which means the burners (all of them) must be drilled out before a repair can be made. Thermador admits this. They are large brass nuts, therefore, labor intensive to drill out.

I emailed Thermador and after several back and forth emails, I was told I should have this repaired anyway because appliances break down, and after the service person replaces the defective parts, they could put in a lubricant to prevent this from happening in the future. The service person told me to throw the stovetop out and get a new one! This was a manufacturing and design error which I should not have to pay for or eat the cost of replacing or repairing. The cost to replace a similar stovetop is $800 minimum, plus installation and possible repair of the countertop.

Our Thermador wall oven was purchased in 2005. We are on our 3rd clock display. Each time, the display faded until it was unreadable. Lucky for us, we purchased an extended warranty - something we don't normally do. The last part only lasted a few months. We also had to have the oven hinges replaced. Our warranty expires this August (2009) so I guess we will get screwed by Thermador next time the $350 part breaks (the part price is extremely inflated - there is no way this should cost that much). My opinion is that Thermador is low end, poorly made crap with a high end price tag. Don't buy Thermador.

I spent a lot of money purchasing a KBUT4860A02 refrigerator and a P36 gas stove with a grille and self-cleaning feature. Well, let me begin with the refrigerator. From the day it was plugged in, I discovered that it took forever to cool and freeze items. Then one day, it just began working properly. The freezer side is now working, but the refrigerator side is at 48. From day one, the stove had a problem in that the grille was never hot enough. It appears that the flames were too low. Then after a year, we discovered when we tried cleaning the oven, the cycle never worked; the temperature gauge shows that it is very hot, but no heat. Then when you turn it off, the temperature falls ever so slow as if it was hot.

I called Thermador, but nothing happened. My mistake was buying the product and taking it out of the US to my vacation house in Jamaica. I was prepared to fix it in Jamaica, but Thermador refused to supply the company with any information on the product. I also had a similar experience with buying this product and putting it on a yacht. You could get no information from Thermador if your boat was out of the USA, so watch out pleasure boat users. Make sure your yacht builder never supply you with any of these products. Frankly, I am displeased with the product. Thermador offers no assistance, and you can’t pass the call center, ever. Notice the service manual you receive with the product has no address and no telephone number directly to them, only website and 800 numbers.

    Thermador Range installed July, 1998.
Store delivery team dropped range when delivered. Only offered to replace broken glass oven door, did so. Range top bubbled after a few months usage: my fault, they asserted, since I probably splashed milk on the cooktop and that could corrode. Oh. After cooktop was replaced (I paid for repair service), the top was loose, not properly seated. Again, repairman out to range: previous repair person should not have reseated it as he did....Oh. Two more trips until it was more or less stable. Now, the control knob has malfunctioned. It will be replaced. More service calls, repair charges. Exorbitant, I think, to charge $77.95 to come and tell me the knob needs replacing. The clock display is extremely dim. Whole clock would need replacing. Oh. Never again would I purchase a Thermodor product. This one: model RES 30 RS

I purchased a 36 duel fuel Thermador Range for a new home I built in 1999. I didn't relize there was a place like this where I could complain until today, as I can't begin to tell you about the hours I've spent on the phone with this company. I have had nothing but trouble with the range since the day it was installed. The ditital front panel went out a few months after it was installed. It took me forever to find an appliance store in my area that would work it, and it was still under warranty at that time. Right after the repair man put in the new front panel, it went out again. It took months and many phone calls to get the repair company to come and fix it again. Shortly after that was fixed the left side front burner wouldn't lite. The repair company wouldn't come back again so I had to find another local person Cliff Beamon's appliance repair to come and see if he could fix it. He said they were the hardest company he had ever had to work with. Finally he fixed the front left burner, and within a month the back left burner would not lite. He tried for over a year to get the part, but he said they would not return his calls, and he simply did not have the time to deal with them. He said they are the worst company he has ever dealt with. My back burner has not worked in 3 years, and I can't get a repair company to fix it. What a shame! After all the money I spent on that stove. Also, the burners are so slow to heat it takes forever to boil a pot of water. I HATE IT!!

We purchased a Thermidor double oven, Model SCD 272ZPSS in 2004. In 2006, the control panel and all digital readings stopped functioning. To replace it cost us $241 for the part and $179 for the labor.
Now the new part has now gone out! Replacing the control panel every two years is completely unacceptable. I am shocked at what a poor product Thermidor manufactures. I don't know where they got this reputation as a high quality appliance, maybe based on their high price, but please do not fall for it. I have had other ovens in the past, none as expensive, but none that caused me absolutely any problems. I called their customer service number, where while on hold I was treated to a recording of how Thermidors are luxury high-end appliances. However, Thermidor refused acknowledge that it is unacceptable for a control panel to need replacement every two years. They refused to stand behind their inferior, defective product and will not provide the part so that I will only have to pay labor costs. Oh, and the part now costs $483.33. (Labor is minimum $199 additional.)
