We moved into our current house in winter of '04. It had a newly installed Thermador oven. After two years of trouble free usage, we started getting an F34 error. At the time, it wasn't too bad: if we restarted the oven (pushed the bake button and the temp) it would start up. After about a year of this, it started getting worse. Even multiple restarts would still lead to the F34 error. In the past two months, it reached a point where the oven would not run. The F34 error became a permanent part of the oven (this was three days before Thanksgiving, nice timing).
We had a service guy out to look. He wrote down the details, and we never heard from him again. The second service guy did a little better. He reset the control board, and the oven worked. Yes, it worked for about three hours, and then the F34 started up again, as serious as ever. We called this guy back, and he said he would look into it. He called back the next day, and said that he talked to Thermador. They had indicated that the oven was going to be recalled, and that replacing the control board was not necessarily going to address the problem. Whether or not this story is true, I am somewhat uncertain. I think the service technician was just trying to take our $200 and saving himself another visit back out. At this point, we are out $350 and have nothing to show for it.
So, thirty minutes ago, I called Thermador. I got a bunch of detached nothing. The warranty does not transfer; yes, it's a known problem (though they blamed it on my pushing too many buttons at once and 'frying' the memory, ha ha, which I have never done). So, now I have two more technicians that are Thermador-trained, and am about to throw lord knows how much more money away on this dog. I think the best course of action is to yank the POS and buy something new, but I simply can't justify the cost. The thought of throwing good money after bad doesn't thrill me either.
I HEARTILY recommend to anyone thinking of buying Thermador: DO NOT. Stay away from these hacks, and get yourself in with a company that will stand behind their products.

We also purchased a nightmare Thermador range from American. Initially we spent 5 months waiting for a range on back order thru American that ended up not even being the range we wanted. Then after getting the correct range, there were additional cost. We had to pay the difference from the incorrect model. Finally in December of 2002, the range was installed. It worked for 3 months. When I contacted American, they would not even talk to me about it and referred me to Thermador for any warranty. The computer board was replaced which had to be ordered from Canada. That took 3 months (June 2003). Then in November 2003, the computer board went again (Out of warranty).
Two months later, after many emails back and forth, a lot of mine being ignored (they claim my file was closed because they thought it had been repaired), our warranty was extended to August 2004 at my request. From other comments, I guess we were lucky there. They replaced the computer board and we had an oven until February 2005. This time it was a wire harness. Supposedly it was replaced with a heavier one that they had figured out these required. They did this at no charge to us also. The whole time, at each repair, I requested a replacement range and they refused me each time. I was convinced we had a lemon. The wire harness has held up so far and the computer board but, last year the griddle quit working and as anyone who has dealt with them knows, They are impossible to get anything from so we procrastinated getting it fixed and went without, not to mention the fact that the self-cleaning feature that I had to have. I am too scared to use. It may prove fatal to the oven.
This March 2008, the top element went out of which we paid for the repair, did not fix griddle at that time because of the cost of the element repair. Now here we are October 2008 and we just went to battle again because the bottom element went out. $430 for this repair and we still have to deal with the griddle that will be $83 plus labor. Our nearest repairman is a half hour away and this becomes expensive for the evaluation trip and repair trip. Thermador never wants to even talk about replacement or the fact their products are not the quality they promote. Each time they just tried to sell me another at a pro-rated price. This is where it really got fun!!!!
They sent me a letter offering me a new model for $2,099.70 plus tax. We actually decided maybe this was the thing we needed to do to once and for all have this over. I called to make sure the model wasn't scratch and dent and was assured it was not and would come with a one-year warranty. The lady I spoke with also directed me to their website to see the ProGrand range. I called my husband and then called them back to go ahead with the order and they immediately back tracked about how the letter was incorrect and they would issue a new one. They would not honor this letter in any way!
I received my new letter with a "great" offer of $3,999.00 for the range but it would require the different Island Trim $154.50 and the different PLP kit at $39.50. Plus tax of course! Which I can happily place on my credit card and live happily ever after! I called a lawyer of which many others may have. Can you believe we have no rights once the product is out of warranty unless we are hurt! In case it is not obvious, I will not be taking them up on this fine offer they feel they have given me. The lawyer led me to this website and I got to read all of the stories so similar to mine that it makes me sure that no matter what range they would give me, it would not work long.
Prior to this, I had a small smooth top Kenmore that I bought from a guy that had it sitting outside on his porch in the rain for $100.00 and I was concerned it wouldn't work but at that time couldn't afford any more than that. He told me if it didn't work, he would give me my money back! It worked for many years and no problems with it the entire time I had it! Unfortunately I left it at the house we moved from! Thermador should take a lesson from him!

Our Thermador triple oven(micro, warming drawer)was delivered 9/07 and installed 12/07 for our kitchen remodel. One year and 8 months later the oven has failed. Thermador tells us they no longer manufacture the relay board that is apparently the problem. We are stuck with an appliance that our kitchen cabinet was fitted for. Did I mention the MSRP of $3999? Thermador will not help us since the product is out of warranty- a whopping one year. Beware of this company. Once they get your $4000 they could care less about you. And, yes, it is a noisy unit with the fan blowing at all times during baking...had to get used to that.
We are going to attempt to send the relay board to a refurbishing company. If that solves the problem we will have spent approximately $4-500. After reading the experiences of others I lack confidence in the oven.

We bought a Thermador 36 range in Feb 07. It was placed in an unoccupied house until May 08 (Note: warranty expired before first use!) Now, after about three months of use, the 2nd of three door glass panels has shattered. That would be the one in the middle, not the outer or inner glass. This happened early one morning (actually woke me up, I thought someone had broken a window) when the range was not in use.
Thermador is no help. They want $721.00 for a new door. Won't sell just the glass. Really disappointed and worried that my $5000 range will be an ongoing disaster.

I had three appliances (approx cost $8,500) delivered either damaged or non operative. The Pro Hood was repaired, but the freezer and refrig Thermador Freedom Columns (two separate units) and the The only support was to refer me to warranty repair. Given that these are built (add'l required special install cost for warranty - $500 not disclosed at time of purchase) in appliances, I was not able to return them to the store. It is now three weeks and the store tells me that warranty repair through a 3rd party is the only solution even though the refrig failed upon start up and the freezer was, per the service tech, built wrong. Parts are on back order with repeated delays. I only get excuses that this problem never happened before. Loss of food $100 +/-, required to dine out every night (family of 4)($30 +/- ea night - 3 weeks so far).

We purchased a thermador gas oven/range that was installed in September 2007. In December 2007, we began having trouble with the oven working properly. Thermador has been useless in getting this repaired.
It is now August 2008 and we are about to have our 8th repairman out to service the faulty mother board or so they think it is a faulty motherboard - hard to say since none of the previous replacement motherboards have fixed the problems. Thermador has been of no use to us. They send out the Thermador repairman twice who spent all of 15 minutes each visit to say that the problem was happening when he was on site so he couldn't fix it. That was it, nothing more.
Finally, after a complaint in writing we received a subcontractor for Thermador. They have been on 5 visits to no avail and seem as frustrated with the product as we are with it. One motherboard replacement left us with a cheat sheet to work the oven - light equals bake, bake equals off - how safe is that?

I have a two oven setup model C302 installed in 2002. I had a computer failure within 3 years where the oven completely shut down. The part was about $400 to repair. Additionally, the oven door hinges were replaced. One year warranty, although standard, is just not enough since hardly anything breaks in a year!
I have spent over $500 in repairs to the ovens within the first three years of ownership.

In '01 we purchased the top of the line Thermador double oven and cook top. Almost immediately the ignitors began giving us problems. Had them replaced, of course, after the warranty. Since then we've replaced, perhaps, four and the service man said These are a joke. They get brittle and break. Thermador changed the design, but that doesn't help you. But the worst is yet to come. The bottom oven began giving a code f64? Some code. We shut it down and try again and it would work. Finally, it would not work at all.
Called the factory service people and they at first thought it was a small switch that had gotten dirty and the debris would not let the fan motor work. He ordered a new switch and in a week installed it. Fired it up and code f64 flashed again. hmmm, he said. He called some people and I think even a Thermador rep and was told it was the main mother board.
To the tune of about $500 we ordered a mother board. In a week it arrived and it was installed. Still the code flashed. That was 11 months ago and we are out nearly $1,000 and my wife still does not have a lower oven. No one seems to be able to figure this out. As others have said, we spent a lot of money on these worthless products. Never again will I ever consider Thermador.
Besides the initial cost of the products, about $7,000, no one can fix them when they break. I feel there should be a class action suit against this company. Even the tech said someone bought Thermador and they hope things improve. That was his thought with the mother board, the new company made this one. Hopefully it will work. Well it didn't. It's been 7 years since we installed these things. I'm sure the statue of limitations has past.

Cost for part $247 + shipping if we do it ourselves or 400+ if we take it to TUCSON repair facility - probably 600 if they come to the house. This is of course our last Thermador
I simply can't/won't afford to replace a dispay kit at $250 - especially when others indicate it probably won't last Seems this part should be recalled given number of failures

In 2002 we purchased a Thermador double oven for our vacation home, so we have probably used the oven a total of 100 times maybe as this is not our primary residence. In 06 it started heating very slowly and now the display went dim and finally out. Come on Thermador, 5 years for this electronic control to go out on all of these ovens is obviously a factory defect in design. Now my Bosch dishwasher quit pumping water same vintage and use as the ovens. Bosch better wake up to these quality issues on these high end appliances. I am building a new house and will stay a long ways away from any Bosch / Thermador products.

The Thermodor Oven SC301TS was installed in our model home in 2001 but was not used until we moved in in 2004. The display control module failed within a year. Thermodor refused to warrenty it as it was over a year old even though it had in been used in the builders model home until we moved in. They did replace one under warrenty in our immediate neighbors home under similar circumstances. I have just learned that three other neighbors with the same oven , but installed more recently have the same problem.
THis defective part is available only as a kit, which contains two electronic boards. This kit costs $192.72 as the lowest on line price. Apparently the part needed for the display is not available separately. Also, it is apparent from the complaints registered that the repair parts are not any more long lived than the original. The installed price for these parts is upwards of $400. These ovens should last from eight to ten years without major repairs every year or two. Is a class action suit feasible?

After purchasing a Thermadore Freedom Collection freezer column and a regrigerator column I found the appliance specifications to be lacking and inconsistent, their customer service people to be incompetent, the information given to be incorrect and the response I got to my letter of complaint to be totally without comprehension of the problems. But most ourageous was the fact that after purchasing these two units for an amount in excess of $7,000 I was told that only a Thermadore trained technician could install the custom panel doors, even though I ordered plain, stainless steel doors. There is no scuch thing as a plain stainless steel door. Thermadore's reasoning is that this arrangement gives the purchaser maximum flexibility for customization. I didn't want any customization and ultimately found out that these were the only doors available so in addition to purchasing these already expensive units, I also have to pay an additional $400 per unit to have the doors installed.
I wrote the CEO of BSH a letter explaining my frustration and outrage with the problems and hidden charges I had encountered and he handed my letter off to his Executive Assistant, Ms. Kristin Chin, to respond to me. Ms. Chin dutifully responded with a response that clearly indicated that she had not read my letter completely or did not comprehend the specific areas that needed to be addressed. Adding insult to injury she sent another copy of the same spec sheet I had complained about that did not contain the information I was looking for namely, how much distance should be allowed from the nearest wall (next to or along side the unit)so that the door of the unit could be opened 90- 120 degrees without hitting it. None of the information Ms. Chin sent contained that information. She sent her response FedX for some unknow reason. Why waste the money sending out correspondence that said absolutely nothing? I am still fuming about this situation and intend to follow up with Mr. Bosshard as soon as the Thermadore columns are installed because I am thinking that their specifications for installing the units may be incorrect also and right now, Theremadore has zero credibility with me.
I bought two very expensive Freedom Collection refrigeration units from Thermadore without any knowledge that their custom panel doors had to be custom installed at an additional cost to me of $400/unit. I informed my appliance salesperson that I had not ordered a custom panel door, that I had actually ordered a plain stainless steel door that had a different item number than the one shown on my final list of appliances ordered. She told me that the door and its item number was used for marketing purposes only and that the only doors that exist for these units are the custom panel doors. That smacks of false or deceptive advertiing if you ask me.

We called Thermador to start a service repair for our ventilation unit and our double oven. The double oven needed a part replaced to fix the digital display. So a new appointment was made for when the oven could be fixed when the part was in. On the date of the appointment, I had to be at my parents house for an emergency and missed the service technician by 30mins. Surprisingly, they came at the beginning of the time slow and bailed when I wasn't there. So, the appointment was rescheduled again and this was the start of my frustration.
Two to three weeks later, the second appointment comes along and the service guy comes but says that he doesn't have the part. I couldn't believe it. He said there was a confusion as to what actually needed to be fixed so he didn't bring the part. I was ******. He said he'd go check the warehouse and call me to see if they even had the part in. He calls me about an hour later and says the part isn't in and will have to be ordered and they will reschedule the appointment. So that brings us 3 more weeks later to today. I block out my whole afternoon since the time window was 12:00pm to 3:00pm, very anxious that FINALLY my oven would get repaired. They call me at 4:00pm and the new service guy says that he doesn't have the part. I flipped out. I was ******. I wasted my whole afternoon waiting for them and then they call and say they don't have the part again? Excuse my language but I was ******* mad. I told him to forget it and what was the point of him coming by if he couldn't fix the oven.

The technician advised me that I make sure power never goes out to the range, and if I need to turn power off to the house (which happens quite a bit when you are remodeling) that I leave power on to the range, or unplug the range from the wall. Otherwise the motherboard will probably fry again.
He also said that if power goes out or surges in my area, that there is a good chance the mother board will fry; and to avoid this I should consider an APC backup specifically for the range (another $500.00). It was stored at the dealers until we completed our residence and installed in late 2005. We did not have use of the unit during Christmas season, for about two weeks, of that year. Since that time we have missed many days of use, Thanksgiving of 2006 being one.
I have called customer service to complain and wrote two emails to customer service and the repair service departments. There have been two service engineers from the dealer who have replaced fans, computor boards (at least three times) and other parts. We have been told not to use the self cleaning feature since it makes it necessary to have a service call to reset the unit. I was told that whatever the problem was the service person must have made a mistake.
We now have both ovens out and Thermador is saying they will only replace a part but no replacement of the unit will be considered. We cannot get anyone above a customer service agent to talk to us or respond in writing.
I am an architect with 40 years experience and have used this companies product many time without problems. I had a client who had many of the same problems with this Thermador unit. The present repairman holds an engineering degree and is more than qualified to do the required work. I feel the oven creates too much heat for the parts to withstand and cannot be permantly repaired.

This is the worse range oven ever. i purchased in 1996 and throughout the 9 years i've had it, it has never worked properly. the grills chipped when hot, the broiler doesn't work, the igniters failed constantly, the steel plating on door comes apart when the oven is on, the stove fails to ignite when baking for over 1 hour, the oven light switch failed twice, after repair of the broiler still does not work. this is by far the worse investment ever. for 3000 dollars, you'd think a quality product should be delivered. customer service puts you on hold for eternity (probably dealing with large complaints like mine).

Our Thermador oven has broken 5 times now, and the company has terrible service. Don't even think about buying a thermador product! The gas valves quit working completely, and have always leaked gas into our house, very unsafe. we have complained numerous times, and it does no good. This was the biggest waste of money in our remodel, they are unsafe and need constant repairs. our bill is over $1000 to keep it running. Every 6 months another valve fails. We will have it removed and sold as junk (not safe to resell)
We have disconected our stove at the advice of the inspector, the gas leak is internal and common to these stoves from we have heard. This product will put your family's health at risk. We wasted thousands on this junk and suggest NOBODY even consider these disaster procucts. Good luck with customer service, they even took their email contacts off the web site. Rated F in all aspects. Terrible, terrible terrible!!!!

I own a thermador oven model number SMW 272YP that had a display burn out. After contacting the company I was told that the display was not under warranty. I proceeded to pay thermador to replace the part and was told by the technician that this is a common part that is burning out. I also went into my local store and was told that the display was burning out on most theramdor units. I then proceeded to recall theramdor and ask why this part was not warrantied and was told that the unit was 5 years old. I asked what percentage of these units had burnt out and was told that is none of my business. My point is that if these displays are burning out that fast there must be some type of defect.

I wish I had read reviews for this range before purchasing. I have had problems with oven since it was installed in April,2005. Oven goes on or not, I never know. it seems after reading reviews I have a motherboard problem. Of course it's not on warrantey now. Expensive investment for unreliable product. I don't know how they stay in business.

We purchased a Thermador 36 range, Model PG364GEBS, serial # 3950500836, for $7,043.87 on 10-10-2005. On 10-13-2005 the oven stopped working and was fixed under warranty. On 01-24-2006 the oven stopped working again and was fixed on warranty. On 10-17-2006 the oven stopped working again. I was told that the warrenty was over and I complained about the two other breakdowns; they fixed it as a courtesy. I was told that there would be no other repairs on warranty.
Three different parts were replaced in the three repairs and the last time it was the mother board. After complaining once I received one return email stating that they have fullfilled their obligation. Thermador has refused to communicate in any manner since then. If it breaks again, I figure in about 2 months, I will have it fixed and sell it. Are there any sites that I can get the information out to the public? I want to let every one know that Thermador does not stand behind their product and that Thermador is owned by Bosch.
I have not been able to use my oven for a total of eight weeks in one year. We are always wondering if the oven will work and have no peace of mind.

We purchased a Thermador Wall Oven for our new house built in 2001. Since then the oven has been down three times. The first time was just before Thanksgiving in 2002. Some part went out in the Mother Board. In 2004 the oven went out again so they came out and replaced the same part as in 2002. Now in 2006, just before Thanksgiving, the oven again broke down and yesterday they reported the Mother Board needs to be replaced and they tell me it will take two to three months to get the new part.

We bought a Thermador Kitchen Range there and was assured that it was covered under Mfg. Warranty. The unit was deemed defective by their Authorized Service and we were told the unit had to be replaced. Fiberglass is blowing into the oven onto any food cooked in it, so we can't use it. Thermador told us that IT'S NOT A HEALTH ISSUE and refused to replace it. What are we to do? Whatever happened to the UNIFORM COMMERCIAL CODE?
When we were using the oven in the beginning my wife opened the door to check the food and fiberglass dust blew into her eyes. Her eyes were irritated for several days. Needless to say we still can't use the oven!

Have had our 30 Thermador gas range for 12 months. Has broken twice- and still is not fixed since the second time it started having problems 3 months ago. Repair people have been out 3 times- to no avail- as they have not been able to fix it. During this time our warranty has run out. Not only will Thermador NOT return our calls, but they will not consent to extending our warranty or taking the oven back.
Expensive stove, unuseable 25% of time we have had it. Initial problem could have blown up our kitchen/burned our house down (and this problem was a defect straight from the factory)we have no idea of what is causing the second problem but are stuck with a lemon! (though after reading some of the complaints about Thermador on the web, it sounds like poor products and customer service is the norm, not the exception...which is unfortunate, as I thought we were getting a quality product with service to back it up).

On or about February 21, 2005, my glass top Thermador cooktop shattered and literally exploded in my wife's face as she was cooking. The opposite side of the cooktop from where she was cooking is the side that exploded. Glass went everywhere; in her face; in her hair, in her mouth, injuring her and causing her severe emotional distress. I contacted Thermador Customer Service, and emailed pictures of the defective product. The customer service rep. later called me back to inform me that Thermador would replace the unit and provided me with a dealer to contact who would order the replacement.
I contacted this dealer, and the replacement was ordered. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. Without a cooktop in my home. I finally called the dealer back around March 10th or so, who casually informed me that the part was backordered, and would not be arriving until the beginning of April. I informed them I was not interested in a replacement glass piece, the unit needed to be replaced, as there obviously was something wrong with the wiring underneath, in order to cause the unit to overheat and explode. They had not been out to assess the damage, they only ordered a replacement part. They advised me that Thermador would only replace the part and labor. I even offered to bring the unit to their shop so they could assess the damage, as I had to remove it from my countertop because the glass continued to spider and break, falling on the kitchen floor where it could be stepped on by bare feet. The repair facility said they did not want it in their shop. So again I waited. And waited. And waited.
Around April 1st I again inquired as to the status of my repair, as I had now gone over a month without a cooktop. (I had been boiling water and cooking on my backyard BBQ!) They now informed me it would not be before the middle of April until they received the part, and once received they could schedule the work out. I again called Thermador back, and informed your customer service supervisor, Gaby, of my displeasure, not only of the length of time it has taken to get a cooktop back into my home, but also at the approach of repairing the defective item without even examining the unit. I informed Gaby that I was not interested in repairing the defective item as it had not even been examined to see if the wiring was the cause. I offered to take any like size, like color replacement cooktop she had, and install it myself, in order to put this behind us. She indicated she would voice my concerns to Senior Management and would call me back within the next day or two. This is now 15 days later and I am still awaiting word from Thermador.

We purchased a Thermador Professional oven and range one year ago. This appliance has never worked properly and we have had it serviced several times. I contacted Thermador directly because I wanted a representative from their company to come out and see that the product we purchased was not manufactured correctly. The person I spoke with at Thermador would not do this and didn't stand behind the product at all. The only thing they were willing to do was to send out a service company. I felt they should have been willing to come out and see the faulty appliance for themselves and then decide. We spend several thousand dollars for this appliance, and I will never buy any product made by thermador again.
We were unable to use our new oven for at least six months out of this year. We dealt with a service company associated with the company we bought the oven and range from, but they were inadequate and poorly run. No one is willing to assume responsibility for this faulty product.

First Thermador oven lasted 13 yrs and then melted while in self cleaning mode because a fan failed. Second Thermador oven is now 3 yrs. old and has been a problem almost since it was installed 3 yrs ago. It has had 3 computer control brains and it keeps failing. My service people will not install another brain since they feel the oven has some basic flaw and needs to be replaced. The service records are available at Mullets Appliances in Sarasota. I have written to the CEO of Thermador and have been ignored. This oven is in excess of 4000.00.
We have had many breakdowns of this oven since it was installed 3 yrs ago and currently have had no oven for the last 3 mos.
