Updated review: Sept. 16, 2019
I gave a previous review of 2 stars after my experience with customer service where they denied warranty on the lateral arms that were dented on my awning, saying that it had to be wind damage even though I rolled it up in winds over 30 mph and rolled it up through the entire winter. Perhaps because of this review, I was contacted by customer service and they offered to sell me the replacement arms for half price as a one time offer. I agreed, they promptly sent the parts, good instructions were provided, and my wife and I were able to do the replacement ourselves without significant difficulty. I am satisfied with their response and will probably roll the awning up when winds predicted at 20mph. I really do like the awning and hope it holds up.
Original Review: Sept. 2, 2019
I purchased the awning a little over 2 years ago. I noticed this summer that the outer sections of the lateral arms that connect to the outer rail were crimped and do not allow the awning to retract fully. SunSetter will not warranty the $413 replacement because they say it is due to wind damage. That may be but I can assure you that the awning is fully retracted all winter and I retracted it the rest of the year when winds of 30 mph were predicted. The awning is lovely but I don't think the framing is built sturdy enough if the arms bend with normal use.

The SunSetter awning installation was great. I was in construction business for 40 years, and I was very pleased with it. We had ordered two extra panels with it. The panel across the front is working very well, it's easy to put up and down. However, I don't see how the panel on the side is going to attach. I looked at the instructions and they were not very good, even with what I found so far on the internet. It doesn't give me enough information on how this is supposed to be supported. It has been more than a few weeks ago when we first put it up and it was was partially my fault. I can't help the fact that I got sick. So far, I haven't found the right outlet to try and figure out how this thing goes. I'm certainly not mechanical. So if there's any person in the company that knows a whole lot about how to install these side panels, I'd love to hear from them.
I called the rep and told him I had a problem, in conjunction with the fact that we were getting the two pieces, and he said, "Well, try the installer, just in case he has one in stock, and then call the factory and ask them," which I tried to do and that didn't work real well. Other than that, everything else was so wonderful and I'm very happy. The awning works great and my grandkids love it. Now they don't have to sit on our upper deck with no shade.

My brother has had SunSetter awning for 20 years so I went with SunSetter as well. I spoke to them over the phone and their reps came and showed me their awning. I liked their professionalism and their courtesy. The price of their awning was something I liked as well. I got an automatic, remote-controlled awning from them. Their installers were great. They took away debris and didn't make any mess. Now, we have the awning out front and the sun doesn’t come right in our face.

We needed an awning for shade and privacy, and the SunSetter team was excellent. We went through a company that SunSetter suggested in Rochester, Minnesota but they would not give us the free things that SunSetter has offered, like the $200. We still went with them and we were pleased with their work. Installation went fine and the installers were very courteous and finished all in one day. I got a tan and brown stripes awning. The experience was very good.

We wanted to purchase an awning, so we checked a couple places, and we liked the guy who was talking to us about it. He was friendly and knowledgeable. He had stuff to show us. He told us where we could go to look at one. They could do it in a reasonable amount of time. We got the automatic SunSetter awning, and the installation was great too. Two guys came, and you could tell this wasn't their first awning. They knew what they were doing and they did it the way he said they were gonna do it. They did their work. They were nice and friendly. They didn't putz around. They did their thing and got it over with and left. We should have done the awning sooner because we like it. It's great. It works. The installers were good. The guy that sold it to us was good, and it matched everything that we were told. We've had no problems with it, and I have recommended SunSetter to somebody.

We wanted an awning over our deck and we got a SunSetter automatic and the wind sensor. Everything was great, but we had a hard time getting their reps to come back to check on the wind sensor because it wasn’t sensitive enough and we were afraid something was gonna happen if it was blowing so hard. Nevertheless, they finally came back and adjusted it to make it more sensitive. So far, we love it and it’s very nice.

SunSetter's team was great. I purchased a remote-controlled burgundy and beige awning from them. I added a screen that comes down in front of the awning too. Their team was very efficient and they got their job done a lot faster than I thought. They were in-and-out and did a great job. The awning is at the back of my house and I have two big windows back there. It makes my house much cooler.

I had one of those vinyl curtains but it wasn’t getting the job done. Because of the way my house is situated, in the afternoon the sun shines right on the front porch and it made it too hot. So I got an awning from SunSetter. I had to make some adjustments on it after they installed it. Because where they put it, it wasn’t quite right in the right place. So I loosen a couple of bolts and slide it over a little bit. Other than that, I haven't done anything. But I have to get a cover for it because I didn’t purchase a cover when I bought it.

I purchased an automatic awning from SunSetter. It has a remote control and a crank that I can use if I lose my electricity. The installer was super. I could tell that he has done the job many times. He had a helper with him but he did most of the work. He installed my awning properly and explained everything as he was doing it. Thus far, we're very happy with the awning we got. It faces directly south, and so, during the middle of the day, it's perfect. Later in the day, we need something to the side to block the sun coming in underneath it. So we need to get a side unit. Otherwise, we're happy and we've had a great experience with SunSetter.

I'm not enjoying my SunSetter Awning. I haven't had time to use it. The awning is up and working, but it's not extending out the way it should all the way. The arms are still quite an angle. I was very disappointed. I paid for it way back in May. Then they kept putting me off but when they did get around to do it in July, they did all right. They did a good job with the installation but it took a very long time getting around doing anything and I never got my cover. Right at the moment, if anybody asks me about buying one, I'd be very hesitant on recommending them.

I love my SunSetter awning. We’ve had a lot of rain so I haven’t had an opportunity to use it as much as I like, but I do love it. Everything works well just as much as I could expect. I use the remote mostly. But if I’m out there and the wind is coming up, I know that I can crank it. And I’ve had no issues with it whatsoever. It looks very nice. I like the material that I picked out, and it blends in well and it gives me lots of shade. The installation experience was very good. The installer was very knowledgeable, very friendly, very efficient and answered all my questions, and did a good job in a short time.

I had a SunSetter awning before, and I got a new awning from them. They went above and beyond what I requested. Now I have two awnings and the new one matches the other. Its automation is perfect too.

I saw SunSetter's awning on television and the ad said that it was $700. When the rep told me how much it was for the size of the awning, he said that the cost was almost $4,600. I questioned that because that wasn't what the ad said on TV. He told me the size on TV was just for one window. He told me that the awning is custom made. I got one from them but then when the installer connected it to my outlet outside, it wasn't properly connected so I still had to call my electrician and pay him $360. He said that there's no cover from the rain and snow so he added an outlet.
Additionally, the awning I got is three inches shorter than the frame. I thought it was supposed to be 18 inches but then their rep told me 15 so I went along with that. SunSetter also. had to call somebody out because the computer didn't work properly. Initially, they gave me the system that I could use manually. I have arthritis and I'm disabled so I didn't want that. Instead, I wanted something that was easier for me to use. They gave me a little button that I could push but then I couldn't get the awning to come all the way out. So, they came back and corrected that.
My awning was up so high that it didn't shelter me from any sun at all. All it did was cover the patio but the sun is still shining all the way on us. Their team took it down and put them up over the harness which was okay because I didn't want them to take my awning. I ordered a screen and they never brought it. Summer is over and I couldn't use my yard like I wanted to. I'm supposed to pay my last payment on August 15th but SunSetter never completed the installation of what I ordered. When I got through counting the money, I paid them over $3,000, and I still owe them some money for the last payment and that screen. I don’t feel I should have to pay anybody for everything that I don’t have. I'm not satisfied with SunSetter at all.

First this is not about the product. It would not be fair to rate the product since it was never installed. This is about service or lack of service. I ordered my awning through Costco. Process was online, easy and efficient. Once I received the awning I had a handyman look at the soffit mounts and due to how my soffit's construction these mounts would not work. I contacted Sunsetter to exchange for different mounts. SunSetter charged me over $300 to send different mounts. Once I returned incorrect mounts then I would receive a refund. After a few weeks I had not heard anything from Sunsetter. I called and followed up and SunSetter had received my brackets on 7.16.19. Stated takes a couple of weeks to process. At that point I would see it by the following week.
It is now 8.23.19 and still no refund. I have called Sunsetter multiple times. People on phone have tried but seems within Sunsetter a person cannot pick up and call someone on a different department to help. Serious on this. Talked to multiple people to see who we could talk to to see what the hold up is. Only thing I have been told is the return is under review. The case was escalated and I was to receive email updates. So far 0 updates have been received. Poor customer service coupled with a siloed process. This awning was $3000. To charge a customer to exchange a part to install your product, I guess I understand but think Sunsetter could have secured a credit card and in case the part was not returned then charge me. Their policy though and I will elect to not do business with them.
Once I did have the correct brackets I contacted the approved Handyman service that Sunsetter has approved in my area. Handyman quoted a fair price but when showed up the price tripled. WHOA! This now will coat an additional $1000 to install. Handyman started installing bracket and crushed brick mounted to. Handyman stopped and said we need to go roof mount.
This time I asked the handyman to source the roof mount hardware. To this date the approved Handyman has not heard from Sunsetter. WOW! At this point I am returning the entire awning. Since through Costco I certainly hope the return process is easier. My advice is find a local company that will sell and install the product. Deal with them because Sunsetter seems unwilling to help or incapable of helping. Sunsetter if you read this, Send me my refund!
We are sorry to hear about the difficulty you had with your SunSetter order. We take pride in the quality of our products, our service, and especially the satisfaction of our customers.
We have put in for your refund for your mounts, and do apologize for the delay. You should see it in your next billing cycle from your credit card company; processing speeds can vary, so please allow 7-10 business days.
Please don't hesitate to contact us should you need further assistance.

I had wanted an awning for a long time. My experience with the SunSetter Awnings team was alright. That was why I got the awning. It is by remote control, so it’s electric. So it’s all right. I wanted to sit in the shade on my deck and I chose to buy a SunSetter awning for the advertising that I've seen. Also, a friend of mine who lives in Florida recommended them. I got an automatic awning and the installation team took about 2 hours to set everything up. They did a good job. They mentioned to be careful in the high winds, and now I'm wondering how strong a wind I have to watch out for. Also, I gotta call them to let them know and to make sure that the cover, which is supposed to be delivered, should come before the bad weather. I'd like to have that by October before winter.
Other than that, most people who come to my home are glad that I have the automatic awning. Nobody wants to sit in the sun anymore and people are conscious of too much sun. The awning is much nicer and it shades my dining room double doors, which keeps the hot sun from coming in. There's a lot of pluses to the having the awning and I'm very happy with it.

We are located where the sun’s on the south of us and we needed some shade. Although SunSetter was a little cheaper, that wasn't why we used them. It was because of the guy that came out. I like doing something with someone that I feel I can relate to. The installation was great. The installers knew what they were doing and answered questions I had. They told me I should have the awning closed with a wind speed of 55, but even at 30, I can see the awning double up. I don’t like that. And I think it stretched the awning. Besides, if the wind speed is that much, I don’t need to be out there underneath the awning. I like opening it just a small amount though. My chairs, which are in the direct sun, are underneath it so it protects them too. I don’t have to have it wide open for me to sit out there and enjoy the shade, which is nice. I’m happy with the whole situation right now.

The west sun comes in our patio door a lot, so we normally keep the drapes closed all summer, which makes it dark in the house. We wanted to be able to have a little more light without having the direct sun. Plus, we have the patio out there as well. We figured that SunSetter Awnings was probably the best way to go. We also looked for an awning on Wayfair and different places, but they were so cheap. We figured one that costs $2,000 compared to a couple hundred, it’s gotta be different. The SunSetter team was great. David came and knew all about his stuff. We placed our order with him, then he came back and installed the awning. He and the seller that was helping him did wonderfully. Everything went very well and the awning is working great.

One of my friends in Wilmington, North Carolina, had a patio that had a lot of sun and they said they were gonna get a SunSetter. I asked what was that and they told me about it. Then, within a short time afterwards, they got one and it was nice. Since then, I've moved up from Wilmington, North Carolina to Mocksville, North Carolina, and we have a patio back here that's full of sun from about 10:00 in the morning until 7:00 at night. My wife has sun poisoning and can't sit out in the sun so we decided to put a SunSetter up.
The sales rep was fine and answered all my questions. However, the SunSetter couldn't be delivered to the house because of the HOA wherein the roads are too tight. The installer had to get it on his trailer and bring it in, and it all worked out fine. We got an 18-foot long electric awning and we love it. Push a button, it goes up. Push a button, it goes down. It's on the backside of the house and whenever we put it out in the daytime, it cools off the inside really nicely. I enjoy being able to use it and it was a fantastic experience with SunSetter.

The sun would shine in here right at the door. I went to Sunsetter because they were cheaper and the awnings are made better. We’ve ordered a manual one first. And they got it put up and then it didn’t work. It wouldn’t even roll any way, up or down. It rolled about six inches and that was it. So, we told the installing crew to order us an automatic or electric one. We ordered that, and they come out, and they put it up, and about a day later while it was expanded, it was just about on the ground. They didn’t fasten this to the house right. But they did come back the next day and we’re real happy with it. We ordered a cover for it and we’ve never seen it. They said they had to redesign them and then I haven’t heard anything about anything yet. I just hope we get it for a similar price.

The SunSetter team was wonderful. They were very easy to work with and on time. They had my awning up in no time at all. We purchased it as our deck faces west, and with the evening sun exposure, the deck has not been useable since we bought the house. It was too unpleasant with the sun right on top of you until it set. I’ve been wanting an awning for a few years, but it has been costly so I put it off. This year, I had a hospital stay and I knew I wouldn’t be going out much in the summer. I can’t really sit in the sun that long anymore and I decided I’m gonna get the awning so I can sit on my deck and be comfortable. I had brochures and the contractor that I chose said that he had a SunSetter, and that he would recommend it over the others for durability as well as cost. SunSetter is a bit cheaper than the others and just as nice.
The contractor noted that I’m up in age and even though the crank kind was cheaper, he said that using it would be difficult for me. So, he recommended the motorized one and I’m glad he did. The awning is quite large and I would certainly not be able to use the crank. The technician who installed the awning was excellent and everything went very smoothly. The SunSetter is great. We were going with some shade on our deck because after the fire, all our damn trees burned out! We had no shade! It was either the cost of a pergola or just go with the awning. But SunSetter made an offer in that brochure that I couldn't refuse. It had a free barbecue and a discount. The model I got has an electric control. It rolls on out and stops, then rolls back in again and stops again. I was also impressed that when the wind comes up a little bit, the awning coils back up and gets out of the way. It was a pretty clever idea. For the awning, we chose this grayish color that blends okay with the rest. Our house is gray and the metal roof is blue, then the awning is a darker gray than the house.
The two installation guys were capable too. They did their job and got it done. I'm quite satisfied with the experience overall. The SunSetter awning is great. When we bought it, I thought that we also had ordered a cover for it. But we were happy with the salespeople up to installation. The service was good. We use the awning probably five times a week in this time of the year. The lights work very well and I didn't think they would be as bright as they are. The color is kind of a tan. The other people who have them in the neighborhood all have the same types of colors. I live in a Del Webb Community and they regulate the colors that can be put out, so that the community always looks pristine. So I didn't go with the big stripe or anything like that because the board wouldn't approve it.

We needed shade on our back deck and since my son has a SunSetter awning, that was what we decided to get. It was very good working with their team and I would recommend them highly. The awning we bought was 10 feet coming out and about 15 feet high. It's also got the wind thing but I don't think that works. We had left home and forgot to put it up once. It got windy and the awning flopped over and caught on the spouting. We did get it down fast though. That aside, we can now sit on the back porch in the evenings without getting burned up. We have two windows in the kitchen and the awning shades those too so it's cooler in the kitchen.

My backyard has southern exposure and when it gets so hot, I can't get out in my patio. Then in the afternoon at 3 o’clock, I get the western exposure and I have to go in the house. We purchased a SunSetter awning which was installed about two or three months ago. I ordered it through a fellow named Dave who lives at Port Townsend. I live in an HOA and I was told it wasn’t approved. And then, I found out it had been approved a year later. He worked with me and I didn’t have an increase in the cost. The awning arrived in about three weeks. Two or three days later, Dave installed the awning and showed me how to maneuver it. It was very easy. The awning is very big. It’s a remote and it has the metal hood over it and so far, I love it and have recommended it. In fact, one of my neighbors came over and she also has this south exposure. She ordered an awning through Dave and it was installed about a week ago.

I was looking at SunSetter years and years ago when I didn't even have a deck. I always liked the idea of an awning and I liked SunSetter's price. It's not false advertisement. I did look at some other ones but I did not care for some of the set-ups. Just 'cause the price is cheap doesn't mean anything to me. If you're gonna give something nice to do what I need, I'll spend the extra money.
My SunSetter covers my whole 15 x 15 deck. It's perfect and it works for me. I got a Pro XL motorized. The guy that I was talking to said I didn't really need that to a point but I got everything I could get on it like the wind sensor and lights. The only thing I didn't get were the LED lights that go on. I really want them, but they're so damn expensive.
The installation was perfect. There's only one local person around here that really does it and I had him install mine because though I'm mechanically-inclined, when it comes to warranties, it's better just to have somebody install it. It took less than two hours and my installer only charged me less than $400 to do everything. I got no complaints with SunSetter Awnings. I had four friends that came over and looked at my awning already. I've given them flyers and told them who to talk to.

And after the installation was all over, they demonstrated how to use all the stuff. I had gotten a 10x12 awning that is gray and white with stripes. It's motorized and has an automatic feature. Our home was destroyed by the flood with the hurricane Irma and my awning got torn up. My son is a plant manager for one of the subsidiaries of SunSetter so we decided to purchase an awning from them and their reps did a good job. The awning that I got was more of the cloth type one rather than the laminated sort. I got it in nutmeg which is a light brown color. I got the electric remote too. We did it that way. It’s 14 feet wide but the original one that was on here was 28 feet wide. It must’ve been a custom-made though. However, I have a big sunroom and the awning that I got on one end barely covers it.
The other windows that I wanted it over are 12 feet 6 inches. They’re a bit wider so I couldn’t get an awning for that. I wish SunSetter made their awning a bit wider and get up to at least 15 feet, that would be good. They could sell a lot more off them particularly here in Florida, because we have windows all over the place and we really need them. Nevertheless. the installation team was really good. The rep told us not to leave it open when the wind is 10 miles an hour. 10 miles an hour in Florida whips up right now, so we don't leave it out. I just put it out today and it's raining, but I got it just over the porch, not out into the driveway like we want it. If we want to go to the store, we can't because we never know when a storm is gonna pop up. Other than that, it works real good. It goes out, and then press the button and it comes in. I purchased an awning from this company back in May 2019, at which I asked the company about making sure it would fit and work correctly in my backyard. I was told they don't send anyone out but I could order it and "hope for the best" but if it didn't fit after I ordered it I could return it and SunSetter would provide a return authorization label and send it back. They also claim that it is super easy to install (which it is not) had to call Handyman company which is one of the installers SunSetter says that they work with. Cost me $650 to have it installed to find out that it doesn't fit right in my backyard because of the overhand of my roof. When my awning is fully extended I have to duck under the awning (a lot) just to come out of it and I am only 5'4".
I have tried 3 times to get a return authorization and have had nothing but excuses about not returning it from them. I am also now being told that if I want to return it that SunSetter only provides the Return Authorization number and it is my responsibility to figure out how to return it and gave me the number to UPS Freight. I called UPS and they want $200 to return it. HHHMMM but I only paid $49 to get it shipped to me. SunSetter makes it impossible for you to return their product especially when you are not satisfied.
So if I return the $3200 awning that I bought I would have wasted $1219 and not even have an awning I am happy with ($320 restocking fee, $49 for the first shipping price, $200 for shipping to return it and the $650 I had to pay to have someone install it that SunSetter recommended). I am sorry but that is a lot of money to spend and have nothing for it. Even with professional installers it sill took 4 hours from them to install my awning and SunSetter claims it should only take a couple of hours. This is simply not true and the exact reason I had to waste an extra $650. I do not have a lot of money and for me to spend $3200 on this awning in the first place was a major stretch for me.
All I want is for SunSetter to honor the original return quote that they told me and to give me a return label with the authorization number. I don't care that I have to pay a restocking fee of 10% or have both shipping fees of $49 be deducted but I am not paying $200 to have it ship back when that is not what I was told. I would have never purchased it in the first place if it was going to be that big of a risk in purchasing the awning and that big of a hassle to try and return it. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM.

The SunSetter team was helpful, very friendly, and thorough with us. We bought a tan colored awning, very neutral to match our house and to pass neighborhood HOA. And it’s close to being the largest. It retracts and we got the option with the lights underneath.
The installer was very helpful and took the spot out our back. He gave me a couple of options and we picked the spot that worked the best. The installation took very little time. He was very thorough and showed us how to use the remote. We need the awning whether or not we’re sitting outside. We use it as much as possible because even if we don't sit outside, we have a lot of windows across our back and it keeps our inside cooler by blocking the sun. It was a really good purchase we made. We would highly recommend it.

My husband just recently became disabled. They put an addition on our home and a little deck outback outside the addition. It didn't have any coverage. I wanted him to be able go outside and enjoy being out there without getting sunburned. I felt like SunSetter was probably the best way to go or something that at least has some kind of name to it so I went with them. The company who came out went over everything with us and gave us options on different colors and different little fancy things. We ended up getting the LED lights added on to it so we can be out there in the evening. They were really nice. After we talked to them, it was not even two weeks that they came out and installed it, and it was done that same day. They only actually took a few hours and they cleaned up everything. It was like they were never even there so that was kinda nice.
My neighbors saw that I had it, and they were like, "These are really nice. Where did you get it? How much was it? We wanna get one." I told them I definitely would recommend getting them because it's nice. During the days where you want sun, you can kinda retract it a little bit. And during the days where you want to just sit in the shade, you can do that too. I like having that option whereas if you have just a normal awning there, it's just kinda fixed that way and there's no other option.

We had a SunSetter awning on our house in Belle Fourche. We liked that one a lot and we decided to buy another one for this house that we purchased. We have a big window and a door on the west side of our house, and the patio was out there also. The awning is motorized and we ordered the color to match the paint on the house. We’ve got it installed on our own and we didn’t have any difficulty with it. We just had a few people here to help us ‘cause it was 15-footer and pretty heavy. We really like it because we can now sit out here in the evening and it’s like having another room on the house.

Friends of ours had SunSetter installed and were very happy, which made us go with SunSetter. Everyone, from the salesperson to the installer, was very professional. I was impressed that they returned my calls when I called, which is not something that happens all the time. They also kept to their word of when they were coming. I had one outstanding item that has to do with the cover for the awning and they've assured me that I'll get it. It was very comfortable and no major concerns at all. The awning has met our expectations by far and I would recommend SunSetter.

The sun kept getting hotter and hotter on our back. Also, we have a huge patio and we like to entertain, and people kept staying in our house instead of out in the patio. So, we decided to get an awning and we purchased the Pro 17 x 11 Platinum Awning from SunSetter. We looked at three others but we didn’t like their look, style or price. SunSetter's team was wonderful, too. We called their 1-800 number and they told us that there was a local contractor in our area. So, we contacted them. The rep who came out showed us two different sets of fabric then they came up with a newer set. We ended up picking the darker one which is almost brown and I love it. That one’s supposed to be the longer lasting one and the more sun-resistant. It was different than the original and we got the features for the shade added as well as the wind.
We had one issue when they put in the electrical box part and that gave out a couple of months after it was installed. But when we contacted them, the tech was back by the next day. He replaced it right away, so we have no issue with them. So far, the awning is working because people are staying out on the patio now. It’s a excellent investment.
If you’re suffering in the sun in your back or the sun sets in your back, it is a necessity. If you like to enjoy your backyard like I do and you don’t really wanna be closed in to a screen den, you should get it. I also debated on getting a screen den but we’re on water and I like the view. So, I didn’t wanna be closed in. My brother-in-law will be here tomorrow and he’s been complaining about his back. So, I’ll be bragging tomorrow about our SunSetter awning and tell him that it's what he needs to get. I would recommend all of our awning's features as well. I love the LED lights and my husband was really impressed with them. I love the wind sensor, too.

We saw an awning at our friend's house and we went with the company that they used which was SunSetter. The salesperson was good. We had a little issue at the installation where they blew a fuse on the outlet in the garage. We didn't realize there was even an outlet there so then we were having trouble. We couldn't close the garage door. We were trying to figure out down in the circuit box. We couldn't see it, so we didn't know what happened. When we called and asked them about it, they didn't tell us. That was very frustrating, but it's minor.
We are pretty happy with our SunSetter awning. It has a nice quality. But wind will interfere with using it sometimes. When we are sitting on the deck and it's sunny because our deck faces south, we just put it out. We live on top of a hill and it's often very windy. The awning can't stay on the wind so it retracts in the wind. Sometimes, you can't use it, and our dog is afraid of it because it slaps the wind.

One of the first things I do when I get up in the morning is put that out because that makes such a difference in being able to use the back of the house. On their end, the SunSetter reps were professional and they knew the product. However, their flyer is very deceiving. It says you get this and that free, “Please call your local representative.” It makes you think that if you go through your local representative, whose name is right on the envelope, that those free things are going to come. Also, we could’ve ordered it direct, but then it was dropped at our door, I had to take it off the truck and then I had to find somebody that was going to be able to move it and put it up.

SunSetter was highly recommended and advertised. It also seemed to suit the bill for what I needed. I had a slab that was already poured and was used, but nothing to keep the bright sun on that west side from coming in that’s why I went for it and called them and asked them to come out. They did the installation very quickly. It was done beautifully and I really enjoyed it.
The only thing was that when I paid it, I put SunSetter on my check and then it wasn’t SunSetter, it was somebody else and I didn’t realize it. The guy that did the work did not explain to me or look at the check. Kim, the one that handled it from this end right where I am, wanted me to put it on my card. I said no and that I'm going to wait until the check comes back so I don’t get confused and pay two or three times. She was a little upset about that. It took me a couple of weeks of waiting on the mail and to get that check back before I went to write another one. That was a nuisance having to go back and forth trying to get that check cleared up.
Right now, I'm waiting on somebody to come and shorten one side of the awning or raise it up or tighten it. It is lower by 10 inches than the west side is and then it seemed like after we had heavy rain, it came down more. I don't know what it takes and I have no idea. I hope this person comes and gets my thing fixed. It's been three weeks now. One week, the guy was out, and then he came back and this past Monday, but I haven't seen either a hair of him. But then the issue hasn't prevented me from using the awning. I got the adjustable one or the motorized and on the first night, my cat got up on the desk and rolled it up and I didn’t know it ‘cause I had the drape shut. When I woke up the next morning, it had rained all over everything.

The first time I ever used it the morning after I got it, it wasn’t even 12 hours old. I was showing my daughter what I got from inside on FaceTime, and I started to let it out. She was getting all excited watching it. It was a little bit breezy out there so I stopped it before it went all the way out then let it go back in. Wind gust came along and took it over the gutter. As soon as I hung up, the sensor went off and closed it by itself and ripped a big, foot-long hole in the awning. They came out, fixed it, and replaced the fabric.
A day or so after I got the second one, my friend was over and asked, “So, is that a hole I see in the middle of it?” There was a hole in it. I tried reprogramming the remote, etc. several times to no avail. Today I called customer service and was told I needed to install new batteries. The customer service rep was lovely and helped me as best she could. However, I shouldn’t have to be buying new batteries so soon. Secondly I don’t feel there is adequate technical support... someone to talk you through the re-programming.
I think my biggest complaint is the the website is sorely lacking for an e-commerce site. If a company that brags about selling 1/3 of the countries retractable awnings, it should look like it and make the sites more user friendly. As it is, it operates like a website from the year 2000. Spend some money and step into this decade. Technical information and help should be easier for consumers. Meanwhile I will continue on my own to address these issues.

I spent the next several weeks troubleshooting based on their website, and then through Customer Service and apparently the motor was dead—after one season!! I explained that I am a 68 year old disabled woman living in the country and customer service assured me that I could—and would HAVE to—replace the motor myself. All I had to do was stand on a ladder and remove it from the end.
I now have the motor and instructions in hand, and it clearly states it requires 4 people to remove the awning from the supports, remove the end brackets and replace the motor—then lift the 400 pound awning back up to reinstall it on the mounts. The installation took longer than anticipated, but there's no problem. It was an under-soffit installation. So, I guess there's a little more involved. We are still waiting for the free winter cover and it is a little annoying. They also have to get their order process straightened out. But other than that, I'm very happy with the product. I love that it's electric and that it has the front screen that will also come done. We'll increase our use of our backyard a lot.

It took a couple of weeks to install our SunSetter awning, but it wasn't very long. The installation company came to the house and gave us a quote. They also told us how it should be installed should the awning be put on the roof or below the water drainage from the roof. The guy knew exactly what to do. Our awning has good quality. The electronic mechanism is very handy and its colors go with our house. We live in Cape Cod and most of the houses here have cedar shingles which are brown and we have a kind of a brown, white awning. Our deck has direct sunlight during most of the summer. It's so hot and we can't use it. But now with our SunSetter awning, we can go out there and have lunch or read a book. It's helpful for us to have an awning.

I got a patio on our deck on the back and I didn't have any trees out, so it was pretty hot. I called SunSetter and ordered an awning, and I put the first one up myself. And then I got an automatic one that is run by a remote and I had people put it up. However, SunSetter said that if I ordered one, they would send a little carpet rug. But the guys ordered it and they said that they didn't get one. I also ordered a flagpole from SunSetter about a month ago and I didn't get the rug either. I purchased over $50 and was supposed to get one for that. I’m without a rug, but I've gotten an awning and I love it. I sit out underneath it and it's great. It’s about 20 degrees difference between the hot sun beating on my head and the shade that is going on. Overall, I’ve had no problems with SunSetter whatsoever, even the old one. I bought some flippers for that and got them with no problems.

We love our awning. It’s definitely a quality product and we like everything about it, especially the shade it provides. We installed it ourselves and if you know what you’re doing, it’s very easy. The nice rep also came by and checked to make sure it was properly installed, and we did a good job. However, SunSetter has an aluminum cover that seals a fabric itself across there, and they sell that separately. I wish my awning came with it. I paid a good price for the product, and the cover is quite expensive to buy separately. People should at least get it at a discount if they do it separately. It would be nice to be able to protect my investment. Still, the company’s good.

I got a blue and white remote controlled awning from SunSetter. The installation went very well. Their installers were very nice people. They cleaned everything up and didn't leave a mess. I've been happy with the product and I highly recommend it.

I ordered a cover for my Sunsetter Awning in August 2018. I have called several times and received a different excuse for the delay in shipping. Now 10 months later they are saying it has been recalled and will not ship until the fall of 2019–maybe! What is going on? Why can’t someone just be honest with me? I am receiving brochures in the mail all the time selling new ones. I am very disappointed with how I have been treated. I don’t recommend anyone dealing with this company.
We apologize for the delay in sending you your awning cover. At SunSetter, we take great pride in our product quality, our service, and especially in the satisfaction of our customers. We started the redesign of our cover in September of 2018, and the process has taken considerably longer than we expected. We are currently advising new customers that there is a delay in shipment for new covers.
We remain committed to sending you every SunSetter product you ordered and will contact you as soon as we are able to ship the upgraded cover to you. We hope that you have otherwise enjoyed your awning.

The SunSetter awning is wonderful. I burn very easily and having an awning was a nice convenience. I also had a very nice experience with their team. One man came to install it and it went very fine. I just put it down and then my son and I are gonna sit out under it. I have a two-seater swing and I just sit out there.

We got an automatic, navy blue awning with white stripes from SunSetter. Their rep did the job rapidly and we had good rapport with him. He was very efficient. Thus far, we've been using the awning to take care of some of the sun and to keep out inclement weather. Though we had a problem when it caught on the eave when it got so windy, it's working now. Overall, the installation was done well.

We have the automatic awning where you just press the button for opening and closing and I’m satisfied, but SunSetter advertised on TV that it’s so much cheaper, and I paid way the hell more to have it installed. Still, we’re both in our 90s now and we live on a lake and live upstairs, so if we’re gonna eat out there, it’s a blessing to have the awning to get some cover. I’d recommend it.

We live out to the lake and we get a lot of sun in the front of our building. We have a couple of sliding glass doors and we wanted them covered up and a place to get away from the sun. My friend had a SunSetter done a year before and the following year, we had ours put on late in the summer. We told SunSetter the color we wanted and that’s what they installed. They were good and they didn't take them any time to install it. Our awning is motorized and it has the wind sensor on it too. I want it to be protected if I wasn’t here, so I had them put it on. Now, we use our outdoor space more.

This is the first full summer that I’ll be using my SunSetter awning and so far, so good. I was able to get the measurements that I needed and an awning cover on it. Also, the quality is excellent for its cost. The SunSetter reps I dealt with were very good, prompt, and competent, and the people who installed it did a great job.

We built a deck onto our back porch and we wanted something where we could sit out there and the sun wouldn't be beaming down on us. I went with SunSetter Awnings and their team was so nice. The people who came and put it up for us were really nice too. They told us to watch the wind and since then, we haven't been letting it all the way out when the wind is blowing because it could break. Still, they're an A plus.

I have a very exposed front concrete porch that was very hot and I wanted it covered, so I could sit in the shade in the evening. I Googled and SunSetter seemed like the best deal for the price and what it was to do. I’m a retired journeyman carpenter, so I figured I could handle the installation and I did the first one myself. Also, I’ve had several reps and my experience has been positive. The woman who helped me with my last purchase was great. She called me back and got me a deal. It was amazing. I got an electric motor extension. When I decided on the color scheme, I was looking at the tablet and it was hard to tell. There’s also no way to send a sample swatch without sending an eight-foot wide strip. Eventually, the awning I chose is a gradation of colors. My house has a black roof, and it made sense that it would be grays and blacks.

I had a gazebo to stay in the shade, and the weather took it out. I couldn't stand the heat so I got an awning. The SunSetter team did what they were supposed to do and did a good job. They got in and out, and let us in the shade. You would never know that they were here.
