The first awning from SunSetter that we had was getting old and it was one that was manual. We're up in the age, and we wanted a controlled one, so we purchased a second awning from SunSetter. We had the number from the old SunSetter and we thought it was a number in Kalamazoo of a company that sold it. We were gonna go through that company, but instead, we got the general headquarters when we called that number. And then they supposedly were supposed to get in touch with the store in Kalamazoo, and then they were supposed to get in touch with us. It went about a few weeks before that happened. Finally, I called again and just ordered it right straight from that company. The one that we finally ordered it from was okay, but, after we got them, we got a message from the one from Kalamazoo that they'd liked to get in touch with us. However, we already had ours bought and shipped here.
The company where we bought it from said that we would get notified when they were gonna ship, but we never heard anything. My husband was having hip replacement surgery, so we wanted it before that. Then we were going on vacation as well so we didn't want them to call while we were gone. And yet, every time I called to see where it was, it was in Illinois and they had a problem and then it was gonna go to Battle Creek. We just called them and told them to hold up on shipping it, from wherever it was until we got back from vacation. Eventually, we got it.
During installation, we had to jerry-rig it a little bit because we did not look at the directions real good, and you had to have so much room from your overhang down. If we had the correct amount of space, it would have been a breeze, but because we didn't, we had to lower it down because there wasn't enough room between the sliding door and the overhang. We managed to get it done though and it's also a whole lot nicer.

My townhouse faces north, so my backyard was in that terrible heat. It has a big patio and it was so hot, I couldn't use it. So, I finally decided I would need to do something and got an awning from SunSetter. But I didn't care much for the guy who installed it. I also got a panel that hangs on the east side of the awning, because when I was outside, the sun would come up, go right under the awning, and hit me in the face. I thought that wasn't gonna do, so I called and the guy said they have something for $191. It's like a sheet, except it's plastic and it's porous. When the installer came, he said to look at it in the box before I take it out, like I would take it out and say I don't like it and put it back. I was to put it back, so I didn't like his attitude about that.
The installation wound up really fast. I would have liked to have one that was 10-feet wide but that would cross my back door right in half under the vent there from the upstairs bathroom. So, I couldn't have 10 but I'm not sure though that eight feet is enough. Other than that, it's true what they say, it keeps your patio 20 degrees cooler than where the awning isn't. So, I will enjoy that. But they kinda told me to only leave it open when I'm gonna be outside and by that time, if I don't go out until 11 o'clock, the sun had already heated up that area like an oven. So, that part hasn't been good. But I understand that if we would have big a hailstorm or a windstorm, that wouldn't be good to leave it open.

Seriously research if you're considering a SunSetter awning. The gentleman who sold us one really didn't give us the idea that we would have a problem where we positioned it. When we tried to use it, we can’t sit under it in the first 3 hours in the morning then the same in the last 3 hours of the day because the sun comes in both sides. I thought that the unit would come down and give us protection, but it doesn’t because we face north-south. We would have had second thoughts if we would have known it was gonna be an issue.
Also, they were a little crude when they did the installation. Something wasn’t fitting right and I didn’t expect them to use hammers to beat the pieces to put 'em in. I thought they were gonna break 'em. SunSetter charged us for a piece that goes on in the end, but that faces north and so that has no advantage. That was something that came with the package but I didn’t realize that I had paid for. Now I’ve gotta figure out how to get my money back and return that piece ‘cause it’s no good to me.

One side of my SunSetter awning is tilting. I took a picture and sent it through email to the installer. They said they were gonna schedule to come in to fix for me but it’s still not fixed so I'm not happy. Also for that little awning I paid almost $5,000. I feel it's a little too high and I did not get any discount. But I love the awning because it was easy for me. In the afternoon, I can sit at the backyard to relax.

My husband passed away last year and he had always done the yards for 35 years. I redid the whole backyard and the front yard myself, and I was really trying so I went ahead and got an awning since I'd always wanted one. I've always liked everything I've read about SunSetter, and I had my girlfriend check into it a lot for me. I was real pleased with the customer service that I got here. The gentlemen that came out and put the awning in were very careful. My satellite was right there so they moved it over a little but so it wouldn't touch the awning. They worked hard and did what they were supposed to do. They asked me anytime they did something if it was okay. The only thing that went wrong was after it was all in and I went to put it down, it was the wrong color. The gentleman that came out ordered the wrong one, and he called and apologized plus he gave me a credit. I've also had two follow up calls from them since the installation.
The awning I got is the small one but it covers half of my patio. I got a remote and a wind sensor with it because I have crippling arthritis and because living in Idaho, we have a lot of winds here. Yesterday, I took my Australian Shepherd to the vet for her checkup and it was blowing 50 miles an hour here, and I forgot to put the awning back up. But when I got home, it was already up. I'm very pleased with it and I've already recommended it to five people. I have a girlfriend that has an appointment with SunSetter next week.

It was hard to use our deck in the middle of the day the way it was situated without some shade on it. Getting an awning was the quickest and easiest way to use it without building a structure. We went with SunSetter because we’re familiar with them from Costco and our local dealer here put it in. It cost us a little more money from him because he could put the awning in and we knew he was a bit better than the others. He did what he said he was gonna do, was helpful with the colors, and had a good rapport. His whole family is his crew and they were very knowledgeable. SunSetter did a good job of providing the awning when they said they would. We got a motorized awning and it’s 19 feet wide going out 11. We put it in at the peak of the season and it took 3 weeks to do that. They got it all in and since then, the awning has been working fine.

The canvas was shot in our old unit. But that unit had to be about 12 years old so it didn’t pay to just put the canvas on without replacing the old unit. So we decided to put on a new unit and SunSetter is one of the better companies in the market. They have a good reputation. We picked out the fabric that we wanted. The motorized unit that we wanted was a certain size, which they had in stock. The team we worked with was very efficient and friendly, and they did a good job with the installation. We use the awning for relaxation now and we recommend it.

I had a previous awning for 30 years. More recently SunSetter gave me a better deal for an awning and we got a motorized one from them. Everything was explained to me by their rep who kept in touch with me and told me it would take three weeks for it to be delivered. There were three technicians who came and they had the installation done in five hours. They also cleaned up afterward. Overall, everything went smoothly with SunSetter.

I love my SunSetter awning. I have a nice shade on my deck from 10:00 till 4:00 in the day, and that's the time when I want the protection. I have a deck that faces due south. I had a good sized umbrella for a couple of years, but the deck is fairly large and the umbrella didn't do the job. In the summertime, it gets hot during the day. I couldn't even walk out on my deck in my bare feet. The deck was so hot. I went around my subdivision to see and I knew there was one awning. I spent about an hour, one 90-degree day sitting under that awning and I said that was for me.
There's a franchise here in Bloomington and I called a person there to give me an estimate and I thought his estimate was excessive. I had no idea they were that much, and I thought I'd call SunSetter and get some information from them. I did and found out the person was about $1,000 over what it was gonna cost me. Then I started getting determined to get the whole thing. It took me a while, but I'm a cautious person. Everybody from SunSetter I talked to was so nice. If I had a question, I called up and asked to talk to somebody.
I bought a 14-foot awning made of the laminate material. It's nutmeg colored and has the automatic control. I had to get my own installation done and did not go with the franchised person. Afterward, when the franchised person called me back, he was hostile and really upset that I did not call him back to tell him that I was ordering the awning. I just called him for an estimate and I didn't think I had any obligation to call him back. He asked how much I paid for it. I told him and he asked why didn't tell him. He said he could've offered it at the same price. I didn't think he could and I asked why he didn't do it in the first place. I was glad I did not deal with him. I recommended SunSetter to another neighbor of mine who came over to look at my awning at her son's advice. I told her all the good things about SunSetter and ordering it from the factory.

Although this is a nice product, the one and only reason I spent such an exorbitant amount of money vs other awning companies was because it was being offered by Costco, who I very much like and trust and because it had a 5-year warranty. Before I actually purchased the product I asked a LOT of questions such as installation. I was told that ANYONE could install the awning. I ordered the product, received it, and after contacting approximately 10 handymen, not one of them knew how to install this product. I was about to return this item and started the return process when SunSetter contacted me and gave me the name of a person who was familiar with SunSetter products.
They came and install the awning in 30 minutes and charged me $450!!! Apparently awning installers make more money than doctors or attorneys! Two years later, I have problems with the awning (the fabric has little holes and the hardware doesn't open/close). I called Customer Service and apparently the warranty is now limited and this is a do it yourself repair. I WOULD NOT recommend this product unless you are a very good handyman or a contractor who can do all the repairs yourself, or the cost to do something will be astronomical! Definitely do not recommend this product and the warranty is very deceiving.
We are very sorry to hear of your disappointment with your Awning. At SunSetter, we take great pride in our product quality, our service, and especially in the satisfaction of our customers.
As the manufacturer, SunSetter holds the warranty for your awning. We cover all parts from defects in manufacture, but labor is not included.
We do provide instructions for installation, care and maintenance of all SunSetter products on the Owner's Corner at www.sunsetter.com and also have over-the-phone technical support available from 8AM to 10PM daily.

My wife said that she wanted an awning and we decided to get one from SunSetter because of a referral. Then, their rep, Toby, came out and explained the awning to us. But we already knew everything about SunSetter and purchasing from them was a very easy process. We bought a 10 by 16-foot motorized awning and it was about 100 degrees when these poor guys were putting it up. Other than that, there were no problems. We take the awning out and it keeps the sun off the back of the house. I’m sure in the years to come, it’ll be used more. It was an expensive proposition at $4000 but it serves our purpose and if someone could afford it and has a need for it, I’d tell them to buy it.

The sales team of SunSetter was good while they were trying to get the contract. They were very responsive, however, once they had the contract, I was kind of feeling alone. I can understand that at the time that I called them they were busy and they were handling a lot of orders, but if you expect a consumer to use you again, you really have to be responsive also after the contract is signed. Also the level of care changed dramatically. I didn’t have that great of an experience. They seemed to be in a hurry and their attitude "Let’s just get this done."
The problem also is they’re the only SunSetter company that does installation. They have a monopoly for this area so I didn’t have many choices. If I had had other choices, I would have continued to look around and if there was simply a contractor, I would definitely not use them as I didn’t when I needed to have something fixed. When they installed it, part of the board that holds the awning came off the house again and rather than call them, I called my contractor to just fix it.
My previous SunSetter experience was back in ’93 and they were very responsive and polite/ They took care of it and they seemed to be concerned about resolving it. Even though I have used SunSetter twice, if I needed another awning, I would look around for another company and it’s not because of the product. My issue is with the contractor. So if you live in a different area look around and if there are other contractors around, check them out.

They gave us a good selling job and we decided to buy it. The rep was very knowledgeable and was a very nice man. Then the two gentlemen that came to install it for them, were super. My brother asked me about the awning. He has wanted one for a while. We took him out on the deck and my husband showed him how easy it was to open and close it. My brother said, "It is a good idea."

SunSetter Awnings came up while I was researching the other companies that look like they were the ones that have awnings. I definitely wanted the SunSetter. Since they were an approved vendor, I used them. We got the 16-foot mocha with canopy over the top for damage and it’s motorized. Their reps were really good and efficient. They put it up, it works and it’s everything I expected it would be. When the installation started, it began to rain so they had to postpone it ‘till the next day. They did come in and because it was so long, and we wanted to have it up over a bay window, it took four guys to do it. They were very efficient and very good, and they did what they needed to do.
Since then, we’re outside more often than we were before and we have used it quite a bit. We have a large patio and we had nothing back there before so it’s nice having something out there now. Overall, I'm satisfied with SunSetter. It does everything we want it to do. It’s a little pricey, but other than that, everything is good. When you buy SunSetter, you know it’s gonna last. And as far as I’m concerned, it’s the best one in the market, which is what you’re paying for.

We live in the mountains and our deck is in the direct line with the morning sun, so we wanted to be able to use the patio more. SunSetter was the one that was advertised so much and I called about it, and I thought it would work out. The person who got me on the line helped me order and I thought that worked out fairly well. We got the best awning we could find to cover as much as we could. But then after all the items all arrived, I was very disappointed 'cause I ended up spending as much as I did for things I couldn't use. Plus it took forever. I started in March last year and it didn’t happen. This year, I started in March again and it took until the 18th of last month for the awning to be put up. I was very upset with all that.
People kept calling me and trying to get me to sign a paper on the computer. I told them that I'm 71 years old and I haven't used my computer since I retired. I was trying and trying then I couldn't find the password. My son helped me get as far as he could on the computer for me to use it. Then my daughter worked on it and made all phone calls from her house back in Maryland to make this happen, but SunSetter kept typing in the wrong things on the other end and they were sending it to somebody but it wasn’t coming to us. I asked them if they could just send me the paper in the mail, and they said it had to be done over the computer. It was crazy. I'd already sunk in $3,500 and I couldn't get the awning put up. I looked around for somebody down here but I couldn't get any help.
All of a sudden, a guy called me and said they'd be here on the 18th. They put the awning up but then he advised me not to use the the protection thing and he didn’t put it up. He didn’t know how to do it. They worked on it for a long time, but now I can use it and I'm very glad it's here. But it was hell to pay to get it here and months and months of fighting. Now, I've got lights I don’t need. I've got other things here that came with this big package that I don’t need either. I got charged for the fanciest awning that gave us all those items for free. But if I had gotten the one at a lesser price, it would have been better. I like the awning but it was a horrible experience.

We realized that we needed more shade for our new home. We had a SunSetter awning many years ago and we enjoyed it and found it to be well-made. There was a local dealer that was able to set us up with the installation of this awning and it was relatively easy to get, so it was an easy decision for us to go with SunSetter. A local rep came to our house with the fabric samples and showed us the options, and priced out the installation. After the 30-minute appointment, we were set to go. Our experience with the installation was excellent. I would definitely recommend both the installer and the product.

The SunSetter Awnings team was great. They were very efficient, they did what they were supposed to do and the guy talked okay. The installers put the awning at the side of the house on the deck and they did a good job. The only problem I had was the price. They were talking $299 but I ended up paying $3,200 which was crazy. That part got to me since I wanted the awning so bad 'cause I'm disabled. Also, they still haven't done my deductions.

I had SunSetter Awnings before so I got them again and I got the expensive one with stripes that go out. But someplace along the line, somebody screwed up. We measured out the width of my deck, which is not very big, and how far it goes out. I understand it goes all the way out to the end of the road, like your belt on your trousers, but the new awning is going out past my west end, but the north and south are 2 feet short on each end. I tacked nails and used a ruler, and I was happy with SunSetter. And this time it's automated and it’s worked fine. It just can’t go in farther than it’s programmed to go. I saw the guy write the measurement down and the width is worth that.
Now, the awning goes left about 3 feet more. And that’s fine, I understand that it unrolls. It doesn't have to be there and it doesn’t get out there. But the north and south side don’t cover the deck. I was so disgusted. I thought, “To heck with this. I’m not gonna pay around anymore with it. I’ll just use it and never go back.” Overall, SunSetter is a quality product, but they screwed up when they put it together. The awning doesn’t cover my deck and the guy that installed it can do nothing but install what he has at his hand. I paid almost $3000 for this, and it still doesn'’t come out the right size. I liked the awning, but it’s not what I paid for and there’s nothing we can do about it.

In the east of the house, where the sun is very bad, the temperature in the bedroom would go way up. So, we wanted the awning for a long time already. I wrote to the company several years ago and they sent me a whole bunch of papers. The salesman was a real salesman, and he sold me all kinds of things. But the crew that came here and put it on was just fantastic. We then gave them an extra good tip. Our awning is motorized in a way that when the wind comes up, it runs back automatically. It's colored white with blue stripes.
I use it every day. We roll it back at night and in the morning, we’d get up, we roll it down and it keeps the sun off the room. When you got up it was 70 degrees in there, by 10 o’clock, it would be in the 80s. On the first day, I checked it and it was 72 degrees when I rolled it out, and when I came back in about four hours later because the sun got over the house a little bit more, and it was still 70 degrees. It was a great thing. However, I got a card in the mail and it said to call this number and I did, and I stood on the telephone for 45 minutes because they were so loaded. Still, I would tell my friends who will ask about the awning to not put it off too long.

We got a motorized awning and it is good. When the installers came out and a guy lifted the shingles up and found their board that they had to get to. Then they corked all the shingles back down. They knew what they were doing by the way they were working. They were not a couple of fly-by-night putting that up. We are very satisfied with the awning. However, the problem was that the awning was delayed in delivery because according to the contractor, the material that was of the color we chose was backordered. So instead of the awning being installed in late May, it ended up being installed late June. Though the month delay was a little annoying, everything has been fine since then.

We went to Massachusetts Awning and they carried several lines of awnings and I had a previous experience with another company that I wasn’t happy about. Then for my purposes SunSetter was recommended to me and I was very pleased with the fabric.
The only thing that was not satisfactory is that we ordered a side awning because when the sun gets down lower in the sky in the afternoon, it kinda negates the whole awning purpose. The sun just comes right underneath it. We had ordered one and it came, but it didn’t fit right. We’re still waiting for it to be installed and that’s kind of a disappointment because we haven’t really been able to sit out there. Other than that, I would recommend them SunSetter. I called Wes, the seller that I dealt with last summer, and then never did anything. I was so mad at myself, so this year I thought that I'm gonna do it. Last year, we had talked about the color and all of that kind of thing and I sort of knew from that what I wanted. He kept my record so when I got ready to do it again, I contacted him. Then, he went ahead, ordered it, and did all that good stuff.
Everything has been wonderful and I should have done it 10 years ago. I’ve had this deck for how many years and can’t sit on it after 11 o’ clock in the morning. It’s just baking hot. They set up an appointment with the guy by the name of Drew and it took about five weeks to get the awning. He came down and once he got it, it was installed right away. It took two hours and it was done. The awning goes out easy and has its own remote control. The wind catches it and brings it right back where it’s supposed to. However, the lights don’t dim like they want them to and I never heard back from that at all. There was supposed to be three settings in the light and we only got one. Since then, I've been loving our SunSetter awning and I use it every day. I like sitting out while it’s raining, so I can have it out and sit on my porch then. I’d definitely recommend SunSetter Awnings.

We had our deck redone and the SunSetter team had been very good. The rep came out, showed us the material and samples for the color. We talked about the size and he did the measurements. I got a large motorized awning. My mom is elderly and she likes to sit outside, so we use it a lot just for her to sit on the deck. We really like the awning. I like that it retracts and that I don’t have to have a cover over the deck all the time. It’s working great and the installation went really great. Everything has been wonderful.

I bought a SunSetter awning for my mother and when my sister was talking about awnings, I told her how much I like the one at my mother's house and how easy it was to install and upkeep, so she bought too. My SunSetter rep, Tim, was very nice, polite, informative and helpful. We ordered two awnings and we hoped the shorter one would come in first, but it didn't. I was out for the first awning down at the shore and there were two guys who came out to do the installation. They were very effective, polite and professional.
It was a hot day, yet they worked their butts off and they didn't stop until they were 99% done. They had a break and then they came back to wrap everything up and make it look pretty. Also, they gave a demonstration when they were done. They made everything neat that you would never know they were there. Nothing was left behind, not even waste or scrap. It was just "use it and enjoy it." We've already recommended SunSetter to several people. My sister has held a couple of parties and people have inquired about the awning. We told them where we got them and how to look for them.

I went with SunSetter because of their name recognition. When I went to the store, said that I wanted a shade and that I wanted it measured. A guy then came out and measured, showed me the different options that were available, and we did it. We chose the upgraded fabric and a motorized awning. We are very pleased with the quality. I've had a good experience with their team and it was quick. They came out here, did the installation of the awning and it went well. My cousin got SunSetter and he said that we couldn’t have a nicer person explain everything. So we tried the same rep and she was very helpful. She couldn’t do or explain enough for us, and she was very pleasant explaining everything about the SunSetter awning. When we picked the one with the black, beige and gold stripes, she started to laugh. She said that it wasn't because we chose it but because it’s the one that they sell the most. We paid cash for everything right away. We got everything that we could really want in the awning including the push-button. So when my cousin came, he said that it's beautiful and bigger than theirs. The rep said that our deck could use a 16 and we figured we had the space so we went with it. Our backyard has sun from the first thing in the morning until almost at night, and we just can’t sit out there without something like that.
I am very satisfied with SunSetter, and the two fellows that came to install it were also wonderful. They came late in the afternoon and so I said they’d never finish the job. Then they said that they would and one fellow said that he has done it for years. I could tell he was the one with knowledge. He also said that their bosses are the best he has ever had. During the summer, it’s very hard to go out to the back deck because there wasn’t any shade or anything there. The salesman was great but the company itself was the problem. We ordered the awning the first week in May and on the first part of June, I called the representative. He said that it has been ordered but SunSetter didn’t have the color in stock and that it was back ordered. I wasn’t happy with that.
Another three weeks went by and the awning came in. Right on the order, it said that there was supposed to be three brackets that hook onto the rafters to hold it in place. After unloading the awning and as the guys who came to install it were getting ready to put it up, they looked and said that there were no brackets there. So, they had to put it back in the tube and called SunSetter. Two weeks later, the parts arrived. The installers called the day before that it was scheduled to be installed and asked where the brackets were. SunSetter had to overnight them so that it could be installed. So, from the time we ordered it in May, we didn’t get it installed until the end of July. Nevertheless, we love the awning and it’s excellent but you have to expect delays.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him just because he answered any questions that we asked, he didn't pressure us, and he chose the color that would work with the color of the house and the shingles. So, we bought a striped, retractable awning from SunSetter. The salesperson and the carpenter that he brought did not rush the installation of the unit. They even took time to level it with the level tool, which I thought was important so it wouldn't be crooked. I noticed that right away. They took pride in what they did. It is really pretty and I'd like to put it out all the time just because of it but I don't want to wear it out or damage it when a storm comes up. So, I only put it out when I'm home and it's so hot or when we sit out on the back patio. It has the perfect color combination.

He knew what he was talking about and answered all my questions. He did things and got them moving along in a timely manner, so I was quite pleased. Then there were two guys out here that did the installation and I couldn’t have asked for better. I was impressed by their work ethic. They did not know that this was gonna be an eaves or a soffit mount, so they had to leave and get wood. That was no big deal to me. They had the awning installed and showed me all the workings, all the ins and outs, and all the little amenities. They also told me about other little things that could be bought to put on the awning such as lighting.
The awning provides plenty of shade and gives me a 15-degree difference than being right in the direct sun. It’s everything I thought it would be and more. My granddaughter and I went out there and she fixed us cheese and crackers and juice. We sat out in my little Adirondack chairs and had the SunSetter out. We got a motorized awning that's 10x16 feet. It's big and has a solid beige color, and it's attached to the house. I have a screened-in-porch that's hooked to the port to the deck on the outside, so, in the mornings, when the sun starts hitting it, I put the awning out. That way, it also helps shade the screened-in-porch more and we don't get that heat from the floor. If it's not raining, I try to use it every day. If my friends are outside and they do a lot of entertaining or it's just unbearably hot, the SunSetter awning is well worth the money and I would tell them to get one.

My mother and I were talking about getting awning and she said she wanted the SunSetter. My mother has a little deck on the end of her little apartment here. In the wintertime, you want the sun to shine on you to get warm so we didn’t want to build a permanent roof. And then when the sun is out in the summer, you can use the awning to get in the shade.
The people from SunSetter Awnings that we talked to on the phone, all the way to the guy that came out to show us the samples and talked with us about the different models, and the installers, were easy to work with. The installers came out and did a good job. They introduced themselves, went straight to work, got it done really fast and they explained how the awning works and how to use it. It’s a nice awning.
We ordered the awning a little bit bigger than the deck because we wanted it to hang off past the deck so when it rains, the rain would drip off onto the ground instead of on the deck, and the installers made sure that we wanted it larger than the deck. They felt that might have been a mistake and they weren’t gonna put up the awning until we okayed it. That was really good because apparently, most people get it the same size as the deck and we didn’t wanna do that. I’m on a slight hill and I’m in a senior development and a gated community. Back in September of last year, we had a hurricane come through here and they had to cut some trees down that had weakened. The trees, especially in the summer, were high enough that it created some shade on a concrete pad that I had outside, my lanai, and we could sit out there. Now, since all of the trees were cut down on that whole area up and when the sun’s high in the sky in the summer, we couldn’t get close enough at the back of the house to be in any shade, so I thought that purchasing an awning might not be a bad idea.
I had seen an ad on TV and it talked about, “It’s 20 degrees cooler under this”. At that time, they were running a special of $200, so I got online to figure out if there was a local dealership close enough here. There were two. I put a call in through one of these two and I ended up with this gentleman. He was a nice enough guy and he explained things, but he was somewhat overbearing and was good with his tongue. Nevertheless, I went with him and we picked out what we wanted. I had done some measurements and I knew the size. He had come to the house and he spent an hour with us, and I signed up to get it done.
The guy that did all the work during the installation was a nice guy. He did all the hard work and the lifting and he knew what he was doing. We had a good interaction and I asked him some questions. We were good up until that point in time. The very same day that the awning was put up, it was out about halfway, not totally extended, and it started with a slight drizzle, so I wanted to close the awning. I heard a creak first, then a crack and one arm broke and came right through the screening of the lanai. The whole awning collapsed on the concrete pad out back.
The guy that put it up and represented SunSetter misrepresented SunSetter. I was watching the TV and SunSetter had the thing on. It wasn’t a downpour or a hurricane, but there was rain and the grandkids could now go up and down on the porch in bikes and all of the benefits of this SunSetter. I realized that the guy was giving me all the grief about something I didn’t understand, so I called the ad number that was on the TV. I asked if the awning could be up when it drizzles or rains a little. The rep said yes and that there's no problem with that. That’s what prompted my letter and I sent it to SunSetter because I felt that the guy was misrepresenting them. The awning wasn’t properly installed. It was not SunSetter’s fault but the guy's fault.
He finally agreed to come back out and took down the awning. It cost me another $298 to get it reinstalled. Before he even did that, he kept telling me that the awning was to screen the sun and it does not do anything for the rain. I cannot have it out when it rains at all, but he just overstated that. It was almost like, “You know I told you this.” He was putting words in my mouth and he was not that adamant about the thing. So he put it back up and now, I tried to find somebody to replace the screen. The person came out and said that they couldn’t put the screen up because the SunSetter that I have there interferes with where they would have to put the new screening in, to push that in with the little rubber grommet all around. He insisted that he couldn’t do it, so I called the guy who installed it back again and he said that the screen people didn’t know what they were doing and that he knows that they could do that.
I finally had a callback from the people that were gonna replace the screen and they said that they have a solution. The guy got back and said they could drop it by 2 inches where the screen gets attached by putting a 2-inch piece all across the lanai and put the screening on at that point, and that was what they did. It cost me close to $300 to do that. Nonetheless, the SunSetter product lives up to its billing. The material seems great and it’s supposed to be mildew resistant and also water-repellant.
I would recommend SunSetter if somebody had the same need as I have and I would tell them to give it some consideration, but I would tell them to be careful who they get to install it. The guy that installed it called me less than a week ago and he started out by talking nice. All of a sudden, he said to me that if I cost him any money through my letter to SunSetter, he is gonna sue me. That really set me off and I said that he better hire a good attorney. I was gonna continue, but he hung up on me, and that was the last I heard of it.

We have a lot of sun on one side of the house and it made the house really hot. Dealing with SunSetter Awnings, at first, was fine but there was an issue. We went on to the installation team and the awning was supposed to be installed. The rep put through the order and then for some reason, there was a three-week holdup where the awning supposedly was stuck at a UPS facility. So it took over two months for it to be installed which is halfway into the summer, which is already crappy. It was a very unusual situation. It was unbelievable that the awning was stuck at a UPS facility for weeks on end. Plus, I wasn’t notified and supposedly, they had a wrong phone number for me, even though I called them and they had my right phone number. Something in their process needs to be improved. The installation team was wonderful though once they got there and the actual awning itself is wonderful. It works beautifully.

The SunSetter salesman, John, did a good job when he came over to visit with us and we booked everything right there. He was very pleasant, very easy to deal with and was not a pushy salesman. He gave us the whole scenario like what was available and what wasn't and we went with it. We went for an electric awning, which is about 12-foot long. The installation guys came in here and introduced themselves. They went up on top of the porch and they cleared enough room for themselves to do the work. It took about a half hour and they were done. I recommend them.

We have an area in the back that was not usable because of too much sun so we decided to get an awning. I have a friend who was very pleased with her SunSetter and we had ours installed a few months ago. We paid $4,000 for it and the installation which was a lot of money. The awning is very pretty and so far, it's a great product. I was a little concerned about getting the dark one thinking it would be hotter and they assured me that it wouldn't. They said that the fabric will take care of everything. However, it's not quite as cool as all the advertising talks about.
The awning is about 21 feet wide and it's the extended one that goes far like 11.5 feet. They put together panels to create that width and I noticed the other day that there's a little scallop edge. From the house all the way out, it's fine but the scallop edge did not match up the pinstripes. It's a navy one with pinstripes every six or eight inches, and they don't line up. It was a part that SunSetter manufactured and didn't have anything to do with installation.

I was gonna have a big party and my deck was not usable in the summer so I wanted a good awning. SunSetter was recommended to me. I dealt with Backyard Solutions here in Paradise and they ordered it for me. It took quite a while to get my awning because UPS lost it, and it was a mess but the salesman followed it up because my awning wasn't coming. It was stuck in Redding, and the weekend was coming for my party so they came a day before and they had a loaner. That one was on consignment and they found out it had never been put up and it was flawed, but it was still functional for me and that was all I cared about. They put that up for me and it was a lifesaver. I really appreciated them doing that. They went above and beyond.
The awning comes in two parts and there was something they did not deliver and they couldn't put it on without that. Also my awning has a beige and sort of a maroon color and black in it but the cord is off-white and it has to be attached around the house. It's hanging down and hitting my eye so I needed to buy something to either paint it or wrap it because it looks yucky. They should make a different color because it doesn't blend in.

I built a new deck and it was so hot out in our summer house so we decided to buy a SunSetter awning. I ordered it on the phone and the guy I spoke to was very nice. I told him I wanted the awning to go out longer so it covers more but he said that it doesn’t. He sold me a guarantee instead and that for 15 years, it was against everything so I bought it too. He also told me about the LED lights. I got a 10 foot 3 inches awning and it is all electronic. I also got the LED lights with it as well as the shade that comes down in the front and the side. It was almost 3000 bucks.
My cousin came down and helped me install the awning as he had put up a couple SunSetter awnings for himself, his father-in-law and his brother. The installation was very easy and good. I wish though that I had another bracket that goes through the house. I let the people from church come up to our vacation place and I show the awning to them. However, it’s still hot out in the deck and the awning doesn’t give us enough shade. It doesn’t keep our deck cool like they say on TV and the video. So I went online and found SunSetter which seemed like a good one to go with. Their team was good and very helpful but they couldn't seem to get somebody scheduled to show up here at the right time for the installation. We had three different appointments set up and people just never showed up. Eventually, they got somebody new and the guy did a reasonably good job. However, it seemed like he hadn't really worked on the product before. He had to read the directions and when I asked him a couple of questions, he didn't seem to know.
After he left, the awning looked like it was very slightly tilted. I didn’t really care that much but then, it looked to me like it was a little more slightly tilted. Maybe something slipped or maybe it’s my imagination. I've been thinking about calling the guy to have him check it out. But the unit is up, it works, and we didn't pay anything for the installation. They were scheduled to come one day but they had to call and cancel ‘cause they had a problem with something that was coming in that didn’t get there. So, they came at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. They wanted to get it done cause they were in the area and they were here ‘till 7 o’clock. I wasn’t in that big of a hurry, but they just wanted to get it done for me. So, I really appreciated that.
The awning that we got was 12x15 and it's a beige color and then it goes into the brown ‘cause my deck is brown and my house is green. It's a perfect color for the house. It's also attached. It does have the motorized part of it and it goes up. The only time I put it up is if the wind gets too strong. But other than that, it's down all the time and I sit down there to have my coffee in the morning before I go to work. And in the evening or in the late afternoon, it's wonderful to sit out there because before I couldn’t because it was too hot. The sun comes there all afternoon and part of the evening. The awning was a little expensive though, but it's worth every penny. I'm really enjoying it. And it will also be a good situation for me for resell when I sell the house.

The rep from SunSetter was a very good presenter. He gave all the details and the answers to all our questions. They installed the awning in about three hours, and our experience went pretty well. Before, our family room would get too hot with the sun coming on. But now, we can sit out back on the deck because it's not that hot.

I have a back patio and I'd been using a Coolaroo sail over it. I'm getting a little older, so I spend more time at home and out on my patio. SunSetter is on TV and I got something from them in the mail, and the guy who mows my lawn says he's had a SunSetter awning for 15 years. I got a reasonable chunk of change back from my income tax and I put it into an awning. The salesman came out, no pressure and told me what to expect. Then the two guys who came out and installed it were wonderful. They took an hour and a half and explained everything in detail. They could not have been nicer and I felt very comfortable having them in my home.
My awning is a beige color with burgundy and brown stripes, and that matches the trimming on the back of my house. I bring it in every night and then in the morning when the sun is coming from the front of the house, I don’t put it out ‘til almost noon when the sun is gonna be coming around because it covers my flat sunroom. However, it's starting to get where it dips a little. It's not as tight as it was and I assume that by next spring I'll probably call SunSetter back and ask if there's any way to tighten that up. If it's gonna rain, I make sure it's in so that it doesn’t have a lot of weight of the water. The one time that it started to rain when it was out there, it collected the water. So, it just needs to be tighter.
Overall I sit outside more because I have SunSetter. It's just much more comfortable out there. Everyone who comes over goes, “Can I push the button?” I also have a 70-pound black Standard Poodle and they don’t do well in summer heat, but my dog loves my awning. In my life, $4,000 is a lot of money but it was well-spent and that’s what I tell all my friends.

The awning I bought is motorized. I got the protection from the wind too, which seems to be fine. Since then, my daughter and son-in-law have been pleased with the awning.

I put a new deck in my house and I needed shading for it. I researched and found SunSetter Awnings. The reviews were good for them, then I talked to their local guys. I felt comfortable with them and I decided to go with them. But the first group that I went with were a little unorganized. There was a miscommunication between the salesman and the owner/operator of the store and when I called a week or so before my order was supposed to arrive, the salesman found that my order hadn’t even been placed. But he was very amenable. He apologized and returned my deposit. So, that wasn’t bad. But at that point, I felt uncomfortable dealing with them and I cancelled my order.
Then I called SunSetter and got a more local person. He was out of state but from where I lived in the State of New Jersey, he was closer to me than the original guy was. So, it worked out. He ordered the awning, came when he said he would, and installed it in no time. He did a great job and I love the awning. I had a couple of impromptu gatherings here since then and people asked where I got the awning. They also asked for details, so I’ve given SunSetter good reviews to them.

I'm very happy with my SunSetter awning. I looked at it a couple of years ago then I finally decided to go with it so I could get rid off of all my umbrellas on the back deck and use the big awning. The sales rep conducted himself the way I would expect him to be and he knew what he was talking about. Everybody was extra nice and the two men that came here to install it did a good job and cleaned up after themselves. I was quite pleased with the whole operation.
I got the power one that's 20-foot wide by 10'2", and they attached it to the top of the roof. With the little bit that I've used it so far, I've enjoyed it a lot. The weather has not been that conducive to sitting out there and when I get a chance to sit out there for good weather, that's when I have to go to the doctors and everything else. Then when I want to sit out there, that's when it's pouring rain. But every time, I love the idea of being able to just press a button and sit out there and have it open up or closed. It's so convenient. I also recommended it to people that I talked to. Everybody that knows that I got it keeps asking me how I enjoy it and I give them a double plus.

The woods next to our property where we have a greenhouse were cut down and it went from a wonderful sun solar room to a boiler because there were no more trees for shade in the summer. We saw an ad on television for SunSetter Awnings and we thought that might be the solution to our problem. So, we called the local number and the man came out to see if it was possible to put an awning over the greenhouse. I wasn't sure how the remote would work or any of that or if the awning would fit or clear the greenhouse but it's perfect. SunSetter's team was also wonderful, delightful, clean, and neat.
The awning is a beautiful thing and it's good to have something as advertised. We had a marvelous experience with it and we've told everybody we know about it. It's motorized, 15 feet long, and covers the greenhouse. Initially, my husband wanted the hand-cranking but SunSetter's rep talked us out of it. He realized that my husband was trying to be a little bit cheap and finally, my husband realized that the convenience of the remote is beyond belief. It's been pouring and sunny in weather here that I have to close the awning then bring it back up and put it back down because then it's 100 degrees and raining. I can't say enough good things about the SunSetter awning. Don't hesitate to get one.

But the people that put up the awning were okay. I got the beige SunSetter awning that's electric and has a remote control. The new awning is easier for us to use. All we've got to do is push a button for it to go on out. With the old awning, however, we needed a couple of people to put it out before and bring it back in. But overall, my experience with SunSetter was mediocre and I wasn't really happy.

A year ago, with all of the SunSetter ads that I saw, I thought the awning was great and I would love it. I like to sit outside whatever the weather is so the awning would be good for me. Even if it was raining, I could sit out there. I wanted to get one so I got in touch with SunSetter and they put me through to a local dealer, who came in and spent five minutes here. He looked at the wall and he said they could not do it as there wasn’t enough space above the window. My one wall facing the sun is completely window and it goes all the way up to the edge. He recommended I go to Home Depot and ask them if they had a tent that I could use. I lost that idea and did nothing more about it.
However, I kept getting ads for the awning and just three months ago, I was thinking why they keep on reminding me of something that I really want but I can't have. I called SunSetter and asked them to stop sending me their ads. They couldn't do it for me and that’s that. They put me through to another dealer who happened to be Patrick. Instead of taking me off the list, he asked if he could come and take a look. I agreed but I told him that I know there isn’t three inches at the top and that they couldn't do it. He took one look and said he could put it in the roof easily, but it would cost me a little bit more. I told him that we could talk about it and see what we could do. We went from there and now I have my awning.
It didn’t have to be put into the roof tiles because there wasn’t any space on the wall itself to do it. It took a lot more and it cost me $3,500 altogether, which was a lot more than I wanted to pay, but I had my mind set on what I wanted. Patrick had a lot to contend with as far as SunSetter was concerned, but to my understanding, it was the delivery people's fault. I paid $2,000 down but I had to wait a full two months to get my awning in because the delivery people lost all of the equipment. I'm not happy with the SunSetter service that I had gotten. They should be a bit more careful who they employ to transport their materials and they need to be on top of the job.
But Patrick bent over backwards to try to make things right for me. He went ahead and he gave me a deal because I had to wait so long. There was something on here that senses if the wind gets too strong and causes the awning to automatically close up. He didn’t charge me for that and lost out. He had already been paid to receive the material and just did it for me. SunSetter should keep that in mind and refund him in some way, but they don’t do stuff like that. He certainly satisfied me but he suffered for it from many points of view because he couldn’t get the materials to do his job. That was unfortunate, but I'm delighted with the job that he did. He does all kinds of work and as far as I'm concerned he's my permanent handyman. As far as the materials and the way the awning works, SunSetter did excellently. I love the awning and it's making a big difference to my life. I can sit out there all afternoon and read very happily.

I had to come up with a solution for the back of my home getting as hot as it did. I called one of SunSetter's distributors, Toms River, and spoke to the owner of the office. I was then referred to an individual who worked at a Middletown office. He came over and he was personable and informative. What I wasn’t happy with was they didn’t have an accurate representation as to the color and the pattern styles. The book that they had didn’t offer proper visual representation of the product. And in looking at something that’s made of fabric, I would’ve thought that the sample choosing would've been like from a fabric book as opposed to a rendition or photograph of something, which is always something to speculate.
But the installation was quick and easy. There was nothing complex about the area that was prepped. But it was embarrassing what they charged for the installation. They need to revisit their base installation charge. Also, the $700 price that they advertised on TV was nowhere near what I paid for my unit. I understand marketing but I think the price point should be something more in line in the reality of what the experience is.
I use the awning everyday to minimize the amount of heat that comes through my kitchen area. I specifically bought a size that didn’t cover the grill because I didn’t want that nonsense going up and getting caught in the grease and the smoke permeating the fabric. So, the grill is set up beyond the edge of the awning. Also, the unit is motorized but the interesting thing about it is that it has a manual override. But when I asked a technician to display it, it certainly did not look like it was an easy thing to use.

Then on the day that the install team came, it only took them 45 minutes to get it up. They talked and they were pleasant.
We got the motorized version because we have a lot of wind that comes in between our house and our garage. It works fine and it has retracted three times on us because we had a few windy days. Other than that, we can now go out to the patio earlier and it's not gonna be real hot like sitting on the cement, because we like to sit out there in the evenings. Shipment was prompt within 6 days and everything worked out ok and the broken part was returned immediately arriving again after 6 days at their location. I placed a call after 6 days to inquire about the reimbursement and found out that they pretended not to know if they received the part yet. Based on the FedEx tracking # they finally admitted that they had received the part.
After another 2 weeks I call again to request an update on the status of the reimbursement. This was still not even processed in their system and it took another couple of days before I received an acknowledgement that the part had been received and it would take up to 14 days before I could expect the reimbursement. What is going on with a company that seems to not handle such straightforward customer interactions with routine follow-thru? To charge a customer for a replacement part directly rather than leaving a charge pending on the credit card just for insurance is a much more above board approach. To actually follow this up withholding the reimbursement for extended period of time borders on unethical behavior.

Also, he was very attentive. Even through the installation process, he called, followed up and showed up when he said he would. He installed a mid-grade, electric awning with a motion sensor.
However, the awning is slanted when I open it up and it's noticeable to carry into one side, so it's not level sides. Furthermore, it seems to slowly go more and more to that one side. I've been calling the SunSetter installer and have left him two voice messages asking if he could come back. I haven't heard from them. Nonetheless, it's been a good experience and the awning seems like a reliable product.

The hurricane took down the tree that was shading the house, so we purchased an awning. We decided to go with SunSetter because of their reputation and the installation was outstanding. Our awning has a color that goes well with the house and it’s 12x14. If someone asks me about it, I would tell them the same thing that friends told me, "It's the one to get if you’re gonna go that way."

I was not able to sit on my deck all summer long. It was so hot out there, you couldn’t go out to even walk in your bare feet. My daughters encouraged me, they said, “Mom, you really need to get a SunSetter.” And we went for it. My neighbor down at the end of the street was the only one in this whole neighborhood that had one and I saw a little bit of how they installed it.
I ordered from SunSetter and my son-in-law came to help me with the measurements. The SunSetter reps were very efficient. They tested everything before they left and they explained a lot of things to me. The awning is beautiful and matches my storm door on the deck. I stand out in the yard and I just look back and think, “That looks so classy.” It’s a big one and it’s all electric. I’ve noticed that when the winds really get bad, I don’t have to worry because the awning rolls back. I love my awning and I can sit on my deck now.
I got a card to get additional insurance on it and I’m considering signing up for that even though I got a five-year warranty to begin with. I’m thinking of going ahead and taking the additional, so that in the future if something needs to be replaced with the awning, we’ll do it. If anybody in my neighborhood ever asked, I would tell them what to get. I really had a good experience with SunSetter.

I bought a 16-foot, motorized awning and they did a good job installing it. However, they put a slat on it when I asked them to put on a little bit of a pitch so it's collecting a lot of water. I'm thinking about calling them back to tell them to fix it. Nevertheless, the awning is pretty and the equipment is fine. I use it during the evening and weekends, as well as when I have monthly visitors.

SunSetter has more quality and more value. A guy named John called me and he was right on the time and the date for getting delivery. He was also on time for the setup and for putting the awning up. He did a good job, did the follow-up and asked me if I was okay with it. We like the awning and it is nice to sit down in the sun and the heat and be in the shade. We use it every day and it works perfectly. However, it has a flap in the front and the bottom, and the flap that hangs down on the end of it is like a wavy cut. I hang some fishing line and weights on it so it doesn't flap as much. And even when it's retracted, the wind is flapping it up and down all the time and the inside of it as well. Also, SunSetter awning’s price is a little steep but if you want one, you got to pay for it. Other than that, everybody should have SunSetter and they would love it.

We have a portion of our deck that’s up against the back of the house. It gets a lot of the afternoon sun and we spend a lot of time out there because of the pool. We've talked about getting an awning for several years and we just decided to see how much it costs. SunSetter was the company we heard about the most and I haven't heard anything bad about them, so we went their route. We had no idea what it would cost and we were a little taken aback by the price. But it was well worth it. We got a 17-foot long awning from them. We got the one that has a beige and brownish stripe to it because it matches the brick and the mortar on the house well. We’ve also got the LED lights and the wind sensor. It looks really great.
SunSetter has an area contractor and he was really wonderful. He came in, measured everything, asked us what we wanted, all the extras, and explained it all. Then the installers were very polite, courteous, and neat. They picked up after themselves and explained everything like how to use the remote. We use the awning almost everyday and it's very simple to use. If it’s not too windy we’ll put it up just to shade the windows. My experience with SunSetter has been wonderful and I would recommend them. You’re gonna pay a good price for their awning but be prepared for a good product.

I looked on the internet, liked what I saw and I talked to the rep. He knew his product and I’m happy with the green, motorized awning that I got. It was for a new log cabin and I have an architectural design for it, so the installers looked at those. There wasn’t enough room underneath so they mounted the awning on the roof. They did a good job and did it all in one trip. I’m pleased with my experience with SunSetter Awnings and I’d recommend them to a friend.

It's ivory and brown-colored and has a cover on it that matched the siding perfectly. The unit was delivered to where I wanted it and I put it up myself. And the installation was simple. All the directions were good. It took me a long time to do it because I did it in little pieces but when I had to lift it up there, I had to have two of my friends help me because the awning itself weighed 90 pounds. The awning has made the back part of the house cooler because the sun doesn't shine in the sliding door anymore.

We purchased our second power-retractable SunSetter Awning late in 2017. The previous one had served us for about six years, and we wanted a much larger one. The new model features remote control; but, apart from that, I cannot say it was an "upgrade." SunSetter's manufacturing standards have clearly dropped significantly over the past half-decade. Everything seemed more flimsy. As we did the first time, we ordered the unit through a SunSetter-Authorized Installer. They brought it in and installed it very professionally within one day.
About a month or two later, one of the seams on the fabric opened up. The installer inspected it, took photos, and had SunSetter replace it under the warranty. Unfortunately, SunSetter's warranty does not cover the full cost of the repair. Installing the replaced fabric onto the retractable frame (which is a very technical job) is a customer expense, according to SunSetter - even though it costs more than the fabric. In general, SunSetter's warranty only provides a false sense of security: If any part of their product fails, they will only mail the item itself. They don't care about the actual repair. It's like a transmission manufacturer shipping you a new transmission for your car after a recall, and expecting you to install it yourself. If you're going to buy a large power-retractable awning, do yourself a favor: Get it from a manufacturer that TRULY stands behind their product!

My son-in-law has had a SunSetter awning for five years and enjoyed it very much. I have a very Western exposure and I needed something to cut all of the sun. It took about five weeks from purchasing to installation of my SunSetter awning and everything was terrific. I was very impressed with the fella that came in and gave us all the pertinent information as well as the people that installed the awning. We got a motorized model that's 16 feet wide and it's cream colored. It had to be readjusted today because it had to be more on a slant so that it would do a better job protecting the patio. And the same fella who installed it did the readjustment. He was here a half hour max and he was very careful and checked it thoroughly. So all seems to be under control and I'm looking forward to being able to use the awning.

We have a lake house Trex deck that when it hits right at noon, we cannot use it unless we have some kind of a shading. So, besides putting a screen porch, cost-wise, we decided to go with an awning. Our deck is a big one, so we got the SunSetter's biggest motorized awning that covers the majority of the deck. SunSetter first came out with a laminate material which was cheaper, but knowing a little bit of difference in the materials that are used, the laminate will not last as long. So, the one we got is a new material that fades less, is woven, and has a longer warranty. The cost, on the other hand, was twice as much.
Other than that, everybody who I dealt with at SunSetter knew what they were talking about, from the representative that came out to the two gentlemen that hung it. The installers were fairly quick. They answered all my questions and were thorough with what they were doing and the demonstration after. We did all the upgrades on the awning, the operation and the remote control as well. I knew exactly how they hang it when you take a little bit of siding, and you're hanging it in and finding the studs on the wall. We've used the awning a couple of times already and it makes all the difference in the world. We couldn't use the deck because it was so hot there, but with the awning now, we are able to use it. We're very happy with the awning and I'm considering doing a lot smaller awning for our house in the mountains. I would recommend SunSetter as long as the people that will hang it knows what they are doing.

I had put a SunSetter awning up when I moved into the house in 2000-2001. The components of the awning were stainless steel. The arms look like they were powder coated with very high paint quality. I covered the awning in the winter, and if it got rained on, I let it dry out before I rolled it back in. After almost 18 years, the fabric started to fade out a little bit. It aged well and I figured I wanted an awning in another part of the house too.
The salesperson who I dealt with was knowledgeable, polite and very nice to deal with. She was well-versed in the product and was able to discuss the options, pros and cons of the different fabrics. Also, the installation team was good. They were very courteous, nice and professional. Originally, the awning was designed as an under-eave installation but it didn't work because my rafters did not extend. So, they had to do an on-roof installation. They had brackets with them to do something that they had not planned to do. But it was clear they knew what they were doing. They were able to asses that there was a problem and instead of just throwing up their hands and walking away, they re-engineered it on the spot. They were very careful with drawstrings and aligning it to make sure everything was good.
However, they were tying the wire down with standard cable tie. That was not a UV outdoor-rated cable tie and they didn't even know that. They said they never had a problem with the tie. Maybe it was never an issue but usually, if I do outside stuff, I buy ties that are UV-rated. Also, they lubricated the arms on the old awning a bit, and the oil dripped on to the slate. They could have been a little more careful.
Even so, I've been happy with the awning. It has been great. I come home with a motorcycle. I don't want to put it in the garage and I just leave it under the awning. It's also not good to wash your car or motorcycle in direct sunlight, so I can do it in the shade. It definitely was a good purchase on my part. I've told others about SunSetter, and my brother is already buying one.

We have the awnings up and I am enjoying them very much. And I've had a lot of compliments on them. The other ones that I had were manual and I always had to call my son and have him come out and install the awnings because they were too heavy for me to put up and take down. Now, these are the electric ones. It makes that much easier and I can do it myself and I don’t have to bother my son.
The new awning is over my deck. I live on a lake and had family members out from Virginia for two weeks. We used those awnings every day and was on that deck every day. It was really nice to have them because it had been hot here. I have told my friends what the price of the awning was and I said that I had to save up the money to buy them. I saw the ads at Costco on their online but the problem is there's no option if you want to buy the awning that way and then be able to contract with SunSetter to have it installed. So I looked at that and my contractor who does work for me absolutely refused to install it. He didn’t want liability, so it was difficult it cut some of my options. I got SunSetter's local dealer who gave me discounts on the installation but I wasn’t able to talk care of any of the sale items that they had through Costco -- the free hood, the free cover, the free closer and things that were included. I wasn’t able to avail myself of those because I had to get it through a dealer to get installed.
But the salesman was knowledgeable and their installers were excellent. My wife and I goes out to sit on the deck. Our house faces east so the deck is on the west so on a hot afternoons the awning makes it possible for us to utilize our deck. The rep came here and was very, very courteous. We had to move a heap of furniture and they were very accommodating.

However, the installers had to come back because we had a cover that went over it and they did not give it on the propped up awning. They said they would be back on a certain day and they were right here and they installed it with no problem at all.
The deck used to have two large cedar trees of about 8-10 feet that always gave the deck a shade. But they were too old and they died. So we decided that we wanted some shade there. When the trees were removed, there was like a whole new room in that area. The old tree that blocked the view of the lawn and the flowers is now wide open. I like that SunSetter's awning is retractable. When their salesperson came, I already made up my mind that I wanted it and it was just choosing the fabric which was very easy to do because of the color of my house. And I got a beige green striped awning. The installation was fine and the installers did it in one morning. They may have put it up a foot too high, but I can live with that.
The awning was attached to my house and I use it when I want to sit down in the shade on my deck. But I don't like that it is freestanding. It goes up from the house, and it supports itself with those two rods underneath. But I didn't get the wind sensor and I have to be very careful. I told the man to make sure he attaches it to the house very well because I live on top of a hill and the wind causes that awning to sway, and I don't want them to be twisted so I have to be alert if it's on.
It's too high and it's all by itself. I couldn't leave my house and leave the awning down. I really had to go get the remote to put the awning back. SunSetter ought to figure out some way of stabilizing the awning in order to prevent its swaying in the wind as much as it does. It's causing me to have second thoughts that I should have gotten a fixed awning then I would just take the canvass off and have it cleaned and stored. Other than that, my experience with SunSetter was all satisfactory.

We ordered a 10' awning from Sunsetter on May 2, 2018 (Shipment #1). #1 shipped on May 22, and Sunsetter took our $1089 on May 22. We were told one of us had to be at home all day to sign for it. When it came it was damaged. We sent it back. After 2 or 3 phone calls we were told another would be sent but our account would be charged (which we had to explain we already paid for it!). Shipment #2 was sent and we waited. Nothing came! We called again, and found out #2 got lost! The shipper didn't know where it was and neither did Sunsetter. Sunsetter apologized saying they would "expedite" the shipment of another one (#3) as though they were doing us a favor by putting a rush on it.
One month after Sunsetter took our money, we still had no awning. On June 22, we called and asked them for a $200 rebate, since none of this was our fault, and putting up the awning had now been delayed until cooler weather. We thought this was fair, they agreed. We were told it would take about a week to see it in our account. No money came. We called the next week, they did see the rebate note on our account, and sent it to their mysterious "Accounting Department" (which we could not speak with), and they would "expedite" our rebate. No money and no awning. We called the next week, no awning, no $200 rebate. They told us again they were working on it and they would "expedite" it.
On July 2, we called Sunsetter again, still no $200 rebate, the request took time and we were asked to "be patient". Same day the delivery company said they couldn't deliver our shipment (#3) because their 18-wheeler couldn't make it into the neighborhood! They did, however, ask us if we could pick it up in our car! The order finally came on July 3rd, FORTY TWO days AFTER they took our $1089.00! And still no $200 rebate in our account.
The lost order (#2) arrived on July 11! We sent it back because it was the right thing to do! If we did business the way Sunsetter does, we would have kept the second awning! As of the writing of this complaint, July 13, still no rebate. We will NEVER recommend Sunsetter to anyone. It may be a great product, which is the real shame here, but the cost in cash, time, frustration, missed work and being lied to about receiving a rebate, not to mention it took 2 full months to get the product, really wasn't worth it. We could have gotten a similar awning from Lowe's (delivered to our door for free!) for much less.

I was specific with the SunSetter salesperson that I wanted a wall-mount. I questioned whether or not it could be wall-mounted because if there was enough room on the soffit to get the awning mounted, and he said they can do that. He measured it and he did not pressure me into ordering the lights on the arms. But I wanted the lights, and I asked about that. I looked at the picture and the lights appeared to be in the arms themselves. And when it got here, the installers took one look at the back of the house and said they can’t put that on the wall and it's gonna have to be a roof mount.
But I didn't sent it back because I really wanted that awning. We have a pool out there and it’s hot all the time. That’s outside the family room, so the family room heats up like mad. I asked where the lights were and they pointed to a separate tube. There was a thing that they could punch out and put those in. So they got it up on the roof, and I did not like the look of it. And then I came out and the lights were zip tied onto the arms. It looked horrible. And I turn around and looked, and they ran the cords down over the gutter.
And now there are two cords. My husband got mad because they weren’t even the same color. So now there’s the power cord from the awning and the power cord from the light. They're running them both down the slope to the gutter. Then across the gutter, then down the gutter, and then down the wall to the outlet, which was right by the door. I took a look at that and the zip tied lights and told them to take it down. Then I got a call from the salesman and I told him that I did not want a roof mount and it looked horrible.
We’ve got a hip-roof there, so that it’s pitched back. So when they mounted it, there was this huge gap between the back of the awning and the roof behind it. So all the rain would have come down over it and over the cords. And the salesman said they will have an electrician come out and hardwire it for us. I told him that it will not fix that and it was not what I ordered.
So then the owner calls me, and he said they’d pay for the electric to have that hardwired in so I wouldn’t have to look at the cords coming down over the gutters. But at that point, I just want them to get it out of here. Then he started negotiating and I told him that I'll pay the installation fee since the guys have been working out there in the heat. So I paid $400 to put it up and take it down. I had an absolutely horrible experience.

We enjoyed the awning we had in our other home but we had gone with another company for that. The deck went out 18 feet and SunSetter couldn't cover it. We used the same type of fabric as SunSetter though. But for this house, we got a motorized SunSetter awning. It is 20 feet wide and it goes out 10 feet, which is as far as SunSetter can go. SunSetter's team was very professional when they came in. They did what they were supposed to and when something needed to be adjusted, they came back and adjusted it. They were a pleasure to work with and I've told friends to get SunSetter as well.

We see SunSetter Awnings on TV a lot and we chose to purchase from them. I talked to the people from SunSetter by phone and they were good. The only thing that we had a problem with was the salesman that sold it to us. He didn't tell us that the awning we have . We wanted the18-foot awning but when we got the awning, it was 12-foot and the salesman didn't tell us about that. So, we were sort of disappointed. But other than that, we like the awning. It's in good shape and has a motor with it. I would tell others that they need to get an awning.

I ordered. Was told it would be shipped in days, it was two months but my credit card was charged immediately. No hardware or remote when it arrived, then long time to get that but they were not surprised so I assume this was intentional. Speculation: is the company going broke and can't afford inventory or to order supplies. Bought from them before but this is a different company--incompetent.

When I finally had the money, I went ahead and purchased an awning as I've been looking at it for seven years. My experience with SunSetter Awnings sales-wise was fine, but getting the awning put up was the biggest headache I had. It took me over a month to find the right people to install it because it was pretty heavy. I was looking for a professional and I Googled it and then there were some specific people that actually do the SunSetter. And when I first spoke with them, everything was fine. I had the awning done within a couple of days and the guys told me that I got a good deal.
The awning that we have is the largest size, which is 22 feet. It's tan in color, it has lights on it and is motorized. But I wish it has more of the shades that I can put around it. It has one in the front and that one is sufficient, and on the side, it has one that ties. Also, it would be nice if it slid in like the one that goes in the front. But so far, I'm enjoying my awning.

We have a lovely back deck that’s in the sun a lot of the time and I don’t like the sun so we decided to purchase an awning. We had priced out different awning companies, but we had seen the SunSetter at a home show. It was reasonably priced and a good product so we went with them. We got the 12-foot wide motorized awning with a solid blue fabric.
Andy was the one who came out to price the awning at the home show in February. We loved him. He ordered it and got it in a few weeks. After that, they were able to install it in April. He was also one of the two guys who came to install it and they were wonderful. Since then, it's been great to have the awning. We have big doors that lead out onto our deck and the awning is providing shade for that part of our kitchen so it's out and we're out underneath it. Also, I have long drapes that go over those doors and I can keep those open and be able to see out. It's awesome.

We just moved to a new house and a lot of sun came off of our patio that didn’t have a roof over it. Instead of putting something that was permanent because we don’t know if essentially later on down the road we would want it enclosed, we decided just to go with something that could possibly be temporary. We purchased the awning and the prices were better at SunSetter.
Their team knew what they were doing and they knew what to install. They were able to get it up and they were able to explain to me how it worked as well as providing me with the manual. The awning is motorized, but if there were to be a power failure, I have the cranks for the manual. A week later, my kids did something to the remote which offset my awning and it looked like it wasn’t winded up correctly. The team came out and showed me that I needed to do like a toggle on the remote. They fixed that and then showed me how to fix it if it were to happen again in the future.
We usually put the awning out to help with the shade when we go outside. We have like a little section of the kitchen that is right by the doors where the awning is and sometimes that gets a lot of sun, so we’ll put the awning out and then it shades that area and keeps it fuller. It’s convenient and it’s not like one of those tarps that you were to put over but then you’re baking underneath it. It still lets the airflow through, which is nice.

I moved into a fairly new house and we needed an awning out over the patio. I got the motorized model from SunSetter and it has the automatic withdrawal. We used to sit outside but we have dogs here in the neighborhood and they said the clubhouse was not a dog park. They kicked us out of it so, we would go to different houses in the afternoons and it worked great. We were using the patio a lot but it’s gotten too hot. SunSetter was excellent but look out for the length of time you get it. They were slow and they said the 16-foot awning was lost in the shipment. The rep said he would be here in three to four weeks and he didn’t show up until about six weeks. But when he got here, he was in and out in a couple of hours and the installation was good. I was satisfied, the awning works great and I’m very pleased with it.

We needed more time on our deck and more room if we had a large umbrella. The salesman from SunSetter was much different than the first one we had had come out to the house, and he was just being honest and sold us. We have a pool and got the awning installed by the deck. It was a good experience overall, and I would recommend them.

We live in a subdivision where we have to meet all the codes and to put a top on our deck, it would have cost us 30,000 or 40,000 because we would have had to take the roof off to go to the highest peak. We went with SunSetter because of their name, and our experience with the rep was very good. The installation went well too, except for the person who mismeasured. The awning was a little bit too long and too wide, and we had to wait a little longer and let them re-order. Once, the weather got extremely bad, and I told my husband that the awning was going up in the air. All at once, it started rolling in so we were pleased that it worked. Right now, I'm sitting under it because it is very cool. I have also recommended them to a physician that we go to church with. I invited him to come and look. He thought you had to have a post put out, but I said, "Oh no, you don't."

SunSetter Awnings have the most incompetent people in the region. The installers bore a hole down through the deck flooring to reach the lower level plug when they could've attached it to the plug that was already there. If they told us to do it, we would've done it at our expense, so they wouldn't have to bore a hole and run that ugly wire down to the sides of the patio. They also had to come three times to get us to sign the papers and we paid for it in cash, so it was awful. I was very displeased with the service. But, at this time, the motorized awning is functioning well.
We are very sorry to hear of your disappointment with the installation of your new awning by your local independent SunSetter dealer. At SunSetter, we take great pride in our product quality, our service, and especially in the satisfaction of our customers.
We will reach out to you privately to discuss your experience with your dealer.

I had a SunSetter awning last year. We've put it on the patio and we liked it very much. It did a super job for us to sit out there. However, we had a light ice one night and we forgot to roll it in all the way. The ice compacted and it broke the awning. When I called my insurance, they said they didn't cover it. But I wanted another one and while it was a double expense since I just bought one a year ago, the awning did what we wanted. It cooled the patio off. We also pulled it out to protect the flowers in our house, so we were just very pleased with it.
The awning we have is motorized. It has full coverage of my patio extension all the way out. And I had an adapter put on it. In case a high wind comes up, it will automatically fold it up. I bought it from a SunSetter in Mississippi. I called that company but there was no one there all day at the time. We then called back and told them that we wanted to see if they could repair it. But we got no reply. So I called the SunSetter office and they gave me a gentleman out here where I live in Collierville, Tennessee. They came out and they were very efficient and very knowledgeable. They put it up and did good service. It's working fine now, and I would recommend it.

The installation was smooth and the awning did settle. We have a young son and one on the way, so I can sit on the awning with the baby while the other one plays in the yard. I have recommended them and will continue to do so.

We've got an enclosed patio that the sun hits a lot it keeps turning off heat so we decided to buy an awning. We had some estimates from other companies for different kinds and we decided that SunSetter Awnings is the cheapest. Also, their sales team had a nice attitude. We received the awning in about a week. The husband and wife team who did the installation were very nice. They got here 10:00 o’clock in the morning and left at 3:00 in the afternoon. We got an awning that has a motor. It is red and gold in color and it retracts itself. Having this awning has extended our outdoor living area.

We moved to a new place where we now have an atrium. We like to be outside, but it was very hot to be outside in this place with the sun, and we wanted to have a corner where we could relax. I went online and saw the SunSetter awning, and I decided to buy it. I wanted to order an awning with stripes but I couldn’t get the one with stripes because it wasn't motorized. When you get to a certain age, the power should be in the device. So, I just got the plain, motorized one and but it’s fine, but it took a long time to receive it. The awning that we got is nice and I’m happy that we have it, but I also had to wait for quite a while until somebody installed it. When it was first installed, the remote did not work so they had to send us another one, and this took quite a while and I was not happy about that. But our awning is working now. I wanted the SunSetter awning and I like it.

It's motorized and vinyl with black, blue and white stripes. We use it everyday. I'd tell my friends that if they need an awning, they should get a SunSetter one.

We had a deck that we've never used because it was so hot and sunny that it was almost unusable. We're just at 90 degrees right now and we wouldn't be able to use it unless we had an awning. SunSetter's good reputation made me choose them. Plus, I like the electronic part of it. It's automated. When I went online with SunSetter, they gave me a vendor that was in my region. It's a small company. I called and the owner came to the house. He took measurements, showed me the choices, the fabrics and the extra options. After picking out what we wanted, he had his staff call me. Then I just gave my credit card over the phone to his wife who was the customer service.
If you look on the SunSetter website, the main picture has a gray and white bright pattern. That's what I wanted but we couldn't find it. We called SunSetter while the person I was working with was here. Nobody could figure out which one it was and it wasn't in his fabric palette. That delayed us by about two weeks because he kept trying to find it. We asked if it was discontinued and if it was, why they have it as the first picture you see when you go to the SunSetter website. They changed their fabrics but somebody needs to update the website. I also asked if I can get a custom made one. They said no so, we ended up picking another one and I was fine with that.
The installers were terrific and did everything very quickly. The awning works great. They picked the right size and I was happy about that. But they were smoking on my deck and personally, I don’t like smoking. I asked them not to smoke because they kept coming through my house. They didn't leave a mess though. My awning is motorized and it has the waterproof fabric so I can sit there if it's just sprinkling a little. I got all the options except I didn't like the lights hanging, so I got the LED lights. I've repeatedly used my deck more in the last month than I've used it in five years. Moreover, my neighbors say my awning is terrific.

Everything went fine with the SunSetter team. The installers were in and out of here in no time at all and they did a very good job. However, they were late the first time and their timing was a little off, although it was not that late. The awning that we purchased is motorized, cream in color, and connected to the roofs. It's been darn hot and I've been using it, but I close it at night. I would tell my friends to give SunSetter a try and see if they could afford to have one and to put one in.

We have a deck that faces out to the south and it's in full sun for the majority of the day. It was just too hot to sit out there. SunSetter was available and the installers were about an hour away from us. When they came to install it, they took a couple of soffit pieces out from the ceiling of our deck and found that there was nothing to support the awning, so we had to put a beam in there so they could hang it up. We could not install it above the window because of how our house was built and we had to install it out further. It would be nice to know that you could possibly run into this when installing one of these awnings. It took us a while to put the beam up ourselves and we also had to order new soffit through the process. Other than that, the motorized awning from SunSetter is very nice and we really like it.
