The rep was very helpful. If we want to go sit outside, I put my awning out. It creates the shade I wanted. Neighbors have come over and looked at it, and thought it was okay.

I talked to the salesperson at first on the phone, and I knew his father at one time. That led me to, “Okay. Why not go with this company?” The rest of the people that I dealt with were fine, especially the installers. They did a perfect job. However, we weren't too happy with the timeframe because we made it and they put it in the first week in August. It was two months after because there was COVID going on, and they mentioned that they had a hard time with installers and getting the supplies into their office. Still, I would give SunSetter a good recommendation. We like the way it works and we're happy with it right now.

Everything was great, and we love our retractable awning. We have an east-facing deck, so for dinner, we don't need it shaded, but it took the brightness out too.

I called SunSetter Awnings, they got right on it, and I was very happy with the product. The quality is very good, and there may be another person calling them. She was here at my house over the weekend, and I gave her one of the cards. She really liked it, so hopefully, she'll call SunSetter.

I wanted an awning to obscure my view of the house attached to mine and also for afternoon shade. My son's father-in-law does gardens and outdoor stuff and he uses SunSetter, so my son recommended it. The installation team was great. I was inside the house and they were outside doing the installation and they did a perfect job. I love the awning.

The installer was very nice and helpful. But the installation was a pain in the **. That was because the remote and motor failed. So, we went a little over three weeks until the awning was fully functional. The tech came out multiple times. The day he installed the awning, the issue was the remote so they sent the new one. It turned out that the installer had a spare one that was old and used. He tried it and it worked twice and then failed again.
So the installer called SunSetter again and talked to tech support. They said, “Well, it sounds like the motor.” So then they ordered that. A week and a half later, the remote came in so they brought that out to try it and it didn't work. Six days later, they were finally able to come out and install the motor. Now, everything is functioning properly.
The awning is nice to have. It was too bad that it took so long ‘cause it ended up being kind of late-season and the sun drops a little bit sooner in the sky. SunSetter could have done a better job of getting those parts out. For what you pay for, they should have overnighted those parts and it should have been taken care of the next day. It shouldn't have to take almost three weeks to get resolved. But we'll have it for next year.

I called the sales representative from SunSetter up. He stopped over, took a quick look, gave me an estimate and I said, "That's great." They came back about five weeks later and installed it. I don't think it took them more than two hours to put it up. We got the motorized one that has the wind sensor on it. It's very nice. I've used it quite a bit. I put it out on a sunny day just to give a little bit of shade to the back room because it's over a big sliding glass door, and it makes that room 10 degrees cooler by far.
The awning works great. I got the remote control. I push the button if I wanna stop it. I can just let it go all the way out. I'll push the button, and it goes all the way in. Also, it's got the wind thing. On a windy day, if it starts to bounce around a little bit, it closes itself. I'm extremely satisfied. I've already told several different people at my club that this is the way to go. As a matter of fact, one of the other guys at the club said, "Oh, no. That's what I have too."

The rep was very informative and the installation went very well. But, it just looks like the two arms are not strong enough to hold the awning. Other than that, we're enjoying our SunSetter very much.

I wanted the best awning, and I went with SunSetter. I went online to order it. Because I needed it installed and it was a big unit, they sent me to the local guy. The install went very well. I really like the awning. The only challenge I had was collecting of water. I have a short drop. It's a horizontal so it’s not a rain shed. I was just really surprised about it not being a rain shed at all. I haven't tried to adjust the angle to see if I can get a little bit of rain shed, but the first rain I had, it built up really fast. I was kind of in shock.
I have the auto retraction for the wind and the remote, and they are worth having. If I'm doing it, I’d do it all over again. I liked it that much, but the angle on those horizontal arms kind of left me something desired because I've had retractable camper awnings before and they shed water good because we can tip them down quite a bit since they were free-form. Also, SunSetter went really bad on the color selections this year. Typically, they have about 14 different colors. By the end of summer, the color selection was down to about five. I ordered mine way back in the spring when I could get a color that I wanted, so I don't have a complaint. It's just that if somebody is ordering now, they're going to be constrained. Other than that, I love the assembly and everything about the awning.

I had a very good experience with the sales team and the tech. I got a very nice-looking awning. It works very well and it's fairly priced. The best features are the remote and the lighting.

I researched awning companies in the area and came up with Central Florida Awnings. They came out, we discussed options, and we decided to go with SunSetter. The installation process was pretty simple. They were very professional. They were quick, courteous, and cleaned up. We love our SunSetter awning. It was an overall good experience.

SunSetter's reps are very good, top-notch people. We're happy with the awning when we use it.

We went with the SunSetter with the company that was out of a small town not too far from us. They did an exceptional job. They installed it quickly, easily and efficiently. They told us it would take 8 to 10 weeks. It took seven to eight weeks to get the awning and within getting the phone call that they had the awning, they scheduled the installation immediately. It was installed within three days after we were notified. So, we got fortunate with that with the way things are nowadays.
Our SunSetter awning is terrific. We really like it. We have noticed that on sunny days, few and far between, that we put the awning out, it saves the air conditioning running inside because it reduces the amount of heat coming in. So, we've used it that way, and we're very pleased. We were not paying as much attention one day, and the wind picked up. The automatic wind sensor worked wonderfully and closed the awning. We didn't have to worry about it.
Reviewed Sept. 8, 2021
The installers did a nice job. They took the old ones down, put the new ones up and it went easy. We got two awnings with the wind sensor in them and they’re nice. We've had them and been in the heat then once I looked out, they were both in. The wind must’ve gotten high enough that they came in automatically. That was great. With the new wind sensor, that makes it a lot easy. You don't have to watch them all the time. Overall, I'd recommend SunSetter Awnings. They do the job.
Reviewed Sept. 8, 2021
I'm really disappointed with my awnings completely. For my installation, I had SunSetter come out with the fellows the representative recommended. But when I close the awnings, they bang against the house. Both the lights that I can have on at night have fallen off. They've unglued themselves from the strips and they just hang. I'm not happy with not being able to fix it. Some outsider had to fix it.
I've called on that and nobody has come. The tech who came because it wasn't closing right complained because he doesn't get paid for all the re-fixes that he has to do. And that's not my problem. I spent a lot of money on these awnings. I'm down in Mississippi and the installer said the light strips don't work because it's too hot. I shouldn't have been sold those. But, they were fixed easily by those little strips that you put it through and tighten and that holds things in place. The techs said they've had nothing but problems with these awnings. The light strips keep falling down and it's a real pain in the neck because they have to keep coming out and repairing them. I love the awning but I'm not really pleased with who SunSetter recommended to install.

We received the order, and I let SunSetter know that we had it. A couple days later, they came and installed it while I sat in the living room watching them. I really like my awning a lot. It has an arm on each side, and when it goes out the full length, then it snaps into place. SunSetter is a little pricey, but worth it.

Sunsetter's installers were very efficient. We're very pleased with our striped awning. It has helped keep the living room much cooler when we had it out and the sun wasn't beating in on the floor in the room.

There were several things (like the way the awning had to be installed) the sales rep told us that the installation people told us differently, and the installation people said that was not the first time. There was also an unexpected charge for helping me lift down a small existing awning that needed to come down. That was two minutes, and the charge was $150. Other than that, the installation people were good. We got the motorized awning and it has a remote control. It's very good for the price. I checked with three different local vendors and all of them said they would be $1,500 more expensive than SunSetter.

Mike the salesman and another guy I worked with were both very accommodating. I'm very pleased with my awning. I get direct sun in the afternoon on my deck and it provides some shade. I highly recommend SunSetter.

We had a little trouble with the delivery of the awning. It had to come in pieces and we had to reorder, but it all worked out. The contractor was great too. I'm very satisfied, and I’d recommend SunSetter.

SunSetter did a good job with the installation. They came in a week sooner than I thought they would. The installers were quick and the work they did looks nice. They were very professional and did the job in a couple of hours. They explained to us the part that we had and the little things that we had to adjust a bit if we wanted to. The only thing is that we bought a lighter gray awning and we can feel the heat of the sun on it. That makes sense since it has black in it and you can feel the heat coming through. But other than that, it's fine.
There's one spot on it where it has a little worn area. I'm gonna have to keep an eye on that because if it gets worn, it would be in the material in the canvas. The awning was also more expensive than I thought it was going to be. It was $250 that they were supposed to take it off but they didn't because I ordered better quality material that was not included.
Reviewed Sept. 4, 2021
The rep was fine but the two workers didn't explain things thoroughly and they botched some things. I got the electric awning which also had the manual. With the manual, the hook would not fit into the key. Also, when the awning closed, it would make a banging sound. I said, "I can't have that." The two guys were like, "We don't know how to do it, but the owner does.” So, I had to reach out to the owner and she's like, "We're slammed. We'll come back in a week." I wasn't too happy about that. But she made things better. I recommend SunSetter and I'm happy with them. It's not inexpensive, but in the long run, it's worth it, especially if you're gonna sell your home.

Sunsetter came out, their price was decent, and I was happy with everything I got. However, if I were to recommend, I wouldn't recommend the salesperson. It was a second business for him, and he seemed very uninterested and would never return my calls. The company, in general, was really good though. They were professional once we got past the sale part of it, and the team that came out to put up the awning was very thorough in showing us everything. I was happy with them. The product is great too. If I had to do it all over, I'd probably do it again, only because I'm so happy with the product. It is absolutely wonderful. The back of my house faces east and, in the morning, it's so bright and hot in my kitchen and family room that I just open up the awning. It cuts down on the heat in the house.

I had my first SunSetter for quite some time and it had a little bit of wear and tear. I decided to purchase a new one and the installation is a different time to what it used to be, so it wasn't too bad. When they called, they wouldn't be able to put the SunSetter in the garage 'til it was installed so I put a delay on it for a week. But then they called and said they really didn't have the awning and they had to trace it. It was very hot weather and by that time, the installer had a lot of jobs, so that moved me down the list a bit. But that was no problem. I have morning sun and afternoon sun on my patio so the SunSetter is really good. It makes a big difference on the temperature of the house. I've always enjoyed it and I recommend it.

I had a spot out in the back patio that I wasn't ready financially to cover it all in. Sunsetter came up with a good deal for 10 x 10, and installation was fine. I'm extremely happy with the awning. Well worth every penny I spent. My dog and I have a bench underneath of the awning and we sit and watch the sunset. I've still got the brochure and the CD, and I've promoted it to as much as people that come around.

Everything went well with SunSetter. The sales rep was very good. She spent a lot of time working with me, selecting my options and it was a very smooth process. There was a little bit of a delay in the rep's coming, but I can understand in the current time there’s a delay in everything. The guy who came to install it did a good job, too. However, I was told that there would be a cover with the awning, which I could put on during the winter, but I didn't see any cover coming. But it was really nicely done. They installed it very well and we used it over the weekend. It was good.

The team was 100% efficient. They're in Massachusetts and I'm in New York. They came, put up the awning then I noticed a manufacturing flaw in it where it didn't roll up correctly. I called, and they came back within three days and fixed it. The first team that came out was very knowledgeable and they've worked with SunSetter for a long time. The second team that came out were two younger men who happen to be brothers and they've worked for nothing but SunSetter since they were little. I was impressed with them. It was a family-run organization. The quality of the awning is good, and although it's a little overpriced, I'm enjoying it. I love it, and I'd tell people to definitely get one. My daughter has had a SunSetter awning for over 20 years. The same one. All she had to do to it was put a new battery in the remote, and it was just recently.

The installers were quick. They had both of the awnings up in one day. We got the top of the line model, and we like them. We put them out and they do what they're supposed to do. The SunSetter installers were very professional, and they took care of business and gave me information that I needed and asked for. I’m totally satisfied with it. There was one thing I wish they had done, but I'm told that I can do it at a later date. I would like to have a cover for the winter months, to cover it up. From what I understand, you can clean them rather easy, but the point is that as time goes by, the exposed material would definitely fade. It won't look the same as the other material that’s rolled up that’s not being exposed. Other than that, I thought the awning would go nice in the particular area that we put it in and it did. I would also like to get one for my son and his wife, for their house, next spring, but it's gonna be a surprise.

We were having a bit of difficulty, and she said, "Well, let the motor cool down." I said, "The motor is not hot. Nothing's working." "Well, I'll call you back in a little while." However, the awning started working, and it works fine now, but she never ever called back. That was strange. Apart from that, my experience was good.

I love our awnings and I wouldn't want to be without them. But I would never want to have the company that I had again. There was no place to plug the awnings and instead of being a company that would say, "Here's the name of somebody," I was told to get an electrician. The guy said he would not be responsible for anything an electrician might do here. I wasn't asking him to be responsible. I was asking if he could refer someone. In the end, I would have to go to the Yellow Pages to find somebody who would come and put in an outlet for us. That should have been included in the whole thing. That aside, the two young men who did the installation of the awnings were wonderful. They knew what they were doing and they were done in a lot of time. They were in and out. I wouldn’t normally do it, but they worked with me. They gave me an extra remote, too, because I'm blind and I said I’d probably lose the one. So, they gave me an extra remote. I appreciated that so much. They also gave me the lights to hang on it. The awning is working great. We also put a unit on there. It takes three AAA's. When the wind gets up to 30-miles an hour, it automatically retracts. I was out there with the rain going the other day, and I was shaking the water off and it retracted. So, that works. I liked their company's name and their power awning. I also like the guarantees that were involved with it. The sales guy was very nice, professional, and personable. He offered and talked to me about the many different options and we took time to find the colors that I wanted. He did what he needed to do and was gone within a reasonable length of time. I got a little bit of tan and navy in my awning. I found the right colors through the swatches that he had and he took the time to hold them up against the gray brick of my house and helped me make a good decision.
I got the automated awning and its color blends in very well with my gray walls and white. I love it and the only bells and whistle I bought was the power. It comes with lights and everything with it, too. But I chose to only have the power where I can open and close it easily, then I have the rod in the event there's a power failure and if I need to get it pulled in, I can do that quickly. SunSetter's reps were pleasant and they got me in touch with the gentleman who put the awning up. They made sure to get him my information, and then he contacted me in a timely manner. I ordered it in June. He put it up on the 17th of August. When he came to see me to let me look at the brochure, talk to me and do the measurements, I was flipping through the book and I said I wanted something that would pop because it would bring out the fact that the side of the house is light-colored. So, I got the emerald. It has the white and the thin white, thin green, and a thin beige.
The sun is on my side of the neighborhood I live in. I let the awning out and it helps keep the house cozy and cool so that the sunlight wouldn't come in from that patio door and windows. It helps even in the inside of the house. I love it. I'm happy about the money that I spent in it because anything that I am going to get there, if I consider good quality that would last a long time, I have to just say to myself, "Okay, I'm going to spend this amount of money."

SunSetter's sales rep who came to the house was fine but we got a little confused towards the end while we were waiting for our awning to come in. At one point, the day that we were supposed to get the arrival, they said we didn't have an order and we were not on their records. So, we got a telephone number for the representative and he was having medical concerns, but he had the owner get back to us and we were told that we had an order and it was going to be delivered the following day. Then, we had the delivery the next day. The installers were awesome and they came immediately at the time they said they were going to come. They did it in an hour. We got the motorized awning and I like it. But I didn't notice it when they first showed us that when you press the remote, it makes a large click sound like it's lifting and the fixture is releasing itself. So, it scared us a little bit, but we're used to it now.
Other than that, we thought the price was high and there was a little confusion in that too. I was not sure if we got the complete definition but they said we were going to have a cover and we opted out for the plastic cover that came with it. We opted for the more expensive cover for the winterized. But when they left, we told them that there was no cover on it and asked how do we cover it up for the winter. They said that was it and that we didn't need to cover it. So, we paid 450 extra for what we thought was the way it's opened in the summer. But in the winter, I'm not sure. We're going to have to experience it. I also have to go over and see my neighbors' to see if theirs is the same. But they didn't think they bought or paid extra money for the cover, so we're not sure about this.

That was two weeks after I made the appointment and paid money. On the next call, I was told it was in the mail. I called this week again and was told to call the company. That aside, SunSetter is very helpful and understanding. I enjoyed talking to the people. I like everything about the awning because it's shady. It's much cleaner. I would recommend it to people. We’re enjoying the SunSetter awning and it lives up to everything that we thought it was gonna be. The awning fits the entire dimension of the top level of our deck and it had the drop-down curtain, which keeps us in the shade if we want to be on it no matter what time of day it is. We talked with the installer about different things and he came out and looked at it before. He was highly recommended and we went with him. He had a little bit of a discount on it and he came and installed it.
I've been doing independent contractor work for years so I know that sometimes things doesn't go right. Also, we had a little bit of a deal when he first put it up. It didn't get a solid flush against the soffit and then it would roll up crooked. But he came back and fixed it like it should be. He made another hole in the middle of the bracket and then lag screwed that hole because he couldn't find enough dimension on the rafter pieces to get it to hold tight with the screw holes that were with the brackets that came with it. He resolved it perfectly and then, he came out about a week later and got the lights, and got them installed.

I had a team from here in Beckley for the installation. They came in here at about 8 o'clock in the morning. I've got a 20-foot system and this big, long thing was laying on my front porch. They picked that thing up and brought it out here. At about 1 o'clock that afternoon, they handed me the papers and talked to me a little bit with it. The awning is doing well. I read a lot of the thing and I'm getting it better but I'm going to call one of SunSetter's people here pretty soon as I've got some questions.
My wife learned the hard way that when you leave it out in a bad rain and it fills up with water, and you open the door to that and push that button, then it starts coming forward. The tricky thing about it is it doesn't come stark out of the thing. It goes clear up to the top and it's almost like being in a big lake. But it's a tough thing. I walked out here one morning, and it didn’t have one big thing of water right in the middle. It had one on the left, one on the right, and one in the middle. At least it tried to go up 'cause we've got the system on it where when it rains, it will shut, and when it quits, it opens. It kinda got twisted into three pieces. But it didn’t hurt it and it works fine now. We've also got three cats, and we try to keep it up as long as we can because two of them likes to sleep out there. We’re tickled for it, laying out there in the deck, sitting in the deck. The air comes through the awning and it does give you 20 degrees less heat under it. We're very happy with it.

The sales guy was nice. The problem is SunSetter doesn't seem to sell this product direct or, at least, they want you to just order it online. The biggest thing that was an irritation for me was that the pricing that's advertised is not available for the product. It's more like a get you in the door, and then you pay 30% more to buy it. I also haven't been able to get the device installed and I don't have an install date. The people are nice. I just can't to get in touch with them. They call me and leave messages and I call them back then I hear back from them a week later. I don't have time to call them every day. From my understanding, the device is in their warehouse and they're waiting to come over, install it and get paid on it. I know other people that have a SunSetter, and the product speaks for itself. It's great. You just got to be educated on the pricing and figure out who can sell it at the pricing that's advertised if anybody can.

A neighbor had a SunSetter awning and I bought my daughter one six years ago, and it worked out all right for them. My neighbor's had his for 30 years. My daughter has had hers about six years. And I needed it. It has been proven that it works. The rep came out and they didn't have the color I wanted in the five-year warranty, but they had it in the 10-year warranty. After I already signed the contract, he said, “No problem. We'll put that one up and it will be a 10-year warranty instead of the five.” I said, “Hey, fantastic. That's great.” The two guys who came installed the awning within an hour. It didn't take up my time, even though I'm just hanging around watching. But they said they would be here at a certain time, they were.
The awning does drop the temperature 20 degrees. On my deck, I'm facing south, and it gets hot out there. That awning works. And it's efficient. You can take it in and take it out. And the wind was blowing the other day and I got the sensor on it, and I was gone, I came back, and the awning was in. That wind sensor works and it's a good thing to have there, too. I couldn't be more satisfied with it. So far, it has proven everything that I wanted and what SunSetter said it would be.
I just had it open now and it just rained. But I only had it half open, so I had to let it dry off before I roll it up. That's not a concern, but it's something that you should do. If you don't, it will mold. I know it will mold when it gets wet if you had it rolled up. Because my neighbor's is about 30 years and his is molding a bit on the front cover. I asked the guy then, too, because the neighbor asked me to ask SunSetter how much it would cost just to get the awning replaced. It's around $1,500. I said, “Well, that seems pretty high, but I'll tell him anyway.” When I told him, he said that he didn't think he paid for it that much when he bought it new. I said, “Well, 30 years ago, you probably didn't.” I'm very satisfied with it. But the price is high. And most people probably won't get it because of that price. That's the only negative thing. That's a lot of money to invest in something like that that most people aren't sure of. If it was a bit cheaper, I'm sure more people would get one.

The awning is great and I use it almost every day if I can, when it’s not raining. But the awning is very sensitive to the wind. The wind isn't very strong and it's not like I'm getting a thunderstorm but the thing rolls back by itself. The second day that I used it after the installers left, it kept rolling back on me. I don't know whether there is a setting on it. It was not windy enough that it would roll an awning back. The only other thing is that if I had to roll it back mechanically, it would take me a good 10 minutes, especially if it was windy and it didn't roll back by itself or the electric went out on it.

Everything I ordered got here and everything he put in looks nice. I like everything about the awning. It’s perfect. It’s the right size and the right length. We had a heavy rain and it didn’t leak behind it.

Everything was perfect with the sales team. The awning is very nice. But I'm curious about the warranty and the price, why it was so expensive. On TV, it says you can purchase a SunSetter for $600. Where do they get the nerve to advertise that? Ours cost $4,500 and that's the same thing they show on TV.

I had an awning put up last year from SunSetter and we enjoyed it very much. Then, I have a lower deck, so we got a bigger one put it there just recently. The only problem I have is that I was supposed to get a floor mat or something part of the deal, which I haven't gotten yet. They said it got lost. Plus, the team had to come back and make some adjustments on the awning. It doesn't close quite right yet. But we like everything about it so far. Give SunSetter a call. They're pretty good.

I had a SunSetter Awning previously and I had it for many years. We did a bunch of renovations on the house and when they took it down, I saw that the material had gotten shredded. So putting it back up was just silly, with the house being all pretty. So we got a new one. I went with a motor this time and it's blue and white. I definitely love the SunSetter Awning. It's pretty. Everything went really well and smoothly, other than the length of time. When I made the purchase, they said it would be about three weeks and it ended up being five weeks to install. But that's with everything these days because of the pandemic. But it came at the perfect time during the sunniest week of the summer so far. I was able to sit on my deck.

I had an excellent interaction with the sales and installation team. But I am having an issue with my motorized awning. One of the arms doesn’t come in completely all the way. It kind of sticks out a little bit. So when it's closed, the little ruffle doesn't hang properly. I did text the person that installed it, but I haven’t heard back from him. I know he’s very busy. So, I’ll put another call in to him. Also, I need to know how to protect the awning for winter because it wasn't discussed at all. So if there's a way to purchase a cover for it, I would be interested in that.

We called SunSetter and they gave us the name and contact information for their New York City representative. They install and they're also the dealer here. We can buy the product directly from SunSetter but then we would need to go find an installer. But we thought there’d be some value to paying a little extra and going through the local rep. That rep met with us and everything went fine. We made a selection in terms of what color and size of awning we would get. She figured out what the cost would be and wrote the whole thing up.
They also do screens and doors so we also bought a screen to go to the doorway leading out into the terrace where the awning is gonna be. She said that screen could be installed within a week. A month goes by, we still didn't have it. It was all the stories about how her installer had disappeared and she didn't know where the guy was. I finally said to her, I said, “Forget it.” I said, “Cancel the screen. Let's just go with the awning. And when the awning comes in, we'll have you install it." But we ended up with a very sizeable deposit with her because we included the screen. That ultimately was the size of the contract and I was a little concerned about that.
We ordered the awning on May 17th and she said it would definitely be in and installed before the end of June. As we got closer to the end of June, there was no sign of the product and she kept blaming SunSetter for not shipping the product to us. Also when we ordered, I said to her, “You obviously have done this work around New York City. With apartments, you're familiar, you got to get a certificate of insurance and whatever else." She said they dealt with that all the time and they would take care of it. The day came when we made arrangements for her installer to come with the product to install it. They showed up on time but the building would not let them in because she never took care of the certificate of insurance that they require or getting approval to come in and do the project.
So I had the super, who was pretty upset with me and he said I was supposed to make sure the installing company does this and this. I told the super that the rep told me she was taking care of it. The super told me he can't let the installers in the building so they left and took the product with them. I called the rep immediately and said, “You never did the certificate of insurance.” She goes, “Well, I need to know what format they want.” I said, “Well, if we had had this conversation on May 17th, I would have gotten it for you.” So I immediately went back to see the super, he emailed me the format that's required, I immediately emailed it over to her. That's where she has gone silent. I have left numerous phone calls, text messages, and emails for her but I haven't gotten a single response from the rep since that conversation.
Eight days later, we still don't have the awning installed. I called my credit card company and disputed the deposit. They said they'll reach out to the vendor and maybe that will get the rep's attention. I called SunSetter and they said they would send an email to her and give her 24 to 48 hours to respond. I said, “That's ridiculous. Given the story I just told you, she should respond immediately." I hate to think I'm gonna have to start all over, but I have to go to a more reputable company than SunSetter because it's going to at least have distributors and installers they can control and make sure they deliver on their promises. If I had my best friend say they were going to hire them, here in Manhattan at least, I would say, “Don't do it. Buy from somebody else.”

SunSetter's sales guy was great but there was a bit of a struggle when he was trying to help me get to the right person for getting the electric installed. When I called him, he said that they were all backed up and there was only one guy doing it. But they want me to have the cash ready for him to call any day and in my opinion, the process is sort of backwards. So initially, I was ready to cancel the order. Until now, I still don't have my awning and I have yet to hear from the installer to schedule the installation. All in all, the sales guy has been doing all he can to help, but their scheduling is not so great. And the finance reps tried to get me to pay for the awning before I even had it, so that part's not so great either.

We love our SunSetter. There was a bit of a smaller size, but we went for the bigger size that incorporated the window next to the deck, so that window is shaded as well. The sales rep was a nice guy. Two other people in the condo complex were also getting an awning at the same time, so the company gave us a bit of a break, which was the deciding factor for my husband. I secretly have been wanting one for four years since we moved to our condo. I kept dropping hints and finally, it stuck. We didn't have a choice with the color because everybody’s has to be the same, but it's a neutral color that would go with anything. I like the way it unfolds too.
We were told the motor was guaranteed for 10 years. A friend of mine had one, and she said, “I used it a lot until the motor died. And I found out how much it was to replace the motor. And then I never used it again.” It is expensive to have the motor replaced and that made me feel bad because the last 10 years went by like a blink. Apart from that, I'm thrilled with the awning.

Their crew was over on the east side of the country and that was upsetting for me because we waited five weeks. But Howard, the owner of the company, called me and apologized for what happened. He said that he'd get a crew out here in four days, and he was here the next day where the crew was here to put it on. There were three guys and they got here at 11 o'clock. Most of the people I know know about SunSetter. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine was the one who referred the rep over to me because she was in the process with them. SunSetter's sales rep knew what he was talking about and he was able to take care of what we needed. The installers were great as well. I pretty much had to call to see if the awning was in, but that's not unusual with all the stuff that's been going on in this world lately. Despite that, the installation was on time because the sales rep said it would be in in six weeks and when I called, it was seven and they had it. They just never got around to call me yet. So far, we really like the fact that the awning keeps the sun away off of our deck. Now we can sit on our deck and enjoy it. I called SunSetter, got an appointment and the guy came out. It took about a month and a half or so to get the awning, which I understood because they gotta make it especially for you. The installer called me on a Monday then they were out on a Tuesday. It took them half a day, and it was done. We had it up on Father's Day and most of my family was here. It started raining late in the afternoon and we kept it up a good hour and a half into the rain. The rain got a little too heavy and we shut everything down then, but we stayed dry underneath it. There was a little mist coming through, but it wasn't bad. SunSetter has a more waterproof one which I did not get because I know that once it starts raining that hard, I'm not gonna be out there.
There's also an awning that will hold up to stronger winds. If I was gonna do it again, I would spend the extra money to have the extra strong one put in so I can use it a little more often. If you have a sheltered area where there are trees and houses around you, it wouldn't make a difference, but I'm on the corner of a street, and right across at an angle from me out west is a big open cornfield. When the wind comes from the northwest, there’s nothing to block it. When it gets a little windy and I get a bit worried about losing the awning, I close our awning down. Otherwise, it works great and I love it. It was for my comfort ‘cause I’m home a lot. Being retired and being older, it comes in handy for me.

I had a fairly long lead time for manufacturing but it was within the timeframe that the rep had told us. We had a little bit of a hiccup along the way with the installation. We were called on the date for the install and we were out of town. When asked when the next possible date would be, we were told they didn't know. We drove two and a half hours back from where we were to be here for a 9 o'clock install.
Before we left at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, I called the person and left a voicemail asking if the installation was still on. I got no answer back so we left and came home. At 8:30 that night, I got a text saying, “Looks like it's going to rain tomorrow, so we're going to do a rain check and do it on Monday.” We had planned then to go back to the location where we were on Friday then come back for the install on Monday. The installers cooperated and put the job later in the day on Monday so we didn't have to be early in the day. That situation messed up some vacation plans that we had going on. We got brochures in the mail separate from what the salesperson gave us and I realized that he's just like a local reseller. There was definitely some disjointedness between what he had given us and what he was sharing, and then information that we received directly from SunSetter.
Salesperson was also a little more pushy than we would like, but it was fine. I wasn't terribly impressed with the selection of colors and patterns though. It's just we buy the extras and we think it's going to work one way and it doesn't. I got a sensor and that doesn't work. It's not was worth the value. The wind kicked up a few times and the awning did not automatically retract. The rep said it would be a 10 inch difference and the wind would have to really kick up. When you purchase something, you'd like to get some feedback throughout the process to see how it is going. The people that installed the awning were great guys. But they should take a little care. We just had a new $50,000 deck put in, and they gouged the floor and scratched the rail. So I had to call the deck company to see if they could replace or fix it.
