SunSetter Awnings is the largest American manufacturer of retractable patio, window and deck awnings. The company produces four different awning types, including motorized and manual hand-cranked models. Most of the awnings attach directly to a structure, but the company does have one freestanding model.     We've had the awning for less than a year and we've used it a little bit but we have a lot of issues. I was not happy at all with the sales guy I dealt with. He was a real pain. I initially got a price from him and I got another price from Costco but then he went through all his crap about supporting local businesses. So finally, I said that if he would give me the price, I would give him the business. So we went that route. But after that, he was never very happy in dealing with me.

    After I got the awning delivered, I asked him some questions and he didn’t really wanna answer. I told him I was having some problems with the motor. It would close but it would not open at the certain length. The guy said he could come out to look at it but it was gonna cost me $500. Then he said he would have to take it all down and put it all back up, and he was gonna bring two guys with him. I went, “Wait a minute." I put the thing up by myself. Why would he need three people to take it down and put it back up again?

    So I quit dealing with him and I dealt with SunSetter. I worked with them a lot on the phone and they were very helpful. We got to a point where we couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working. So they sent me a new motor under warranty with the idea that I would send the old motor back. But we had some personal issues throughout the year last summer so I never swapped the motor out. I still have the new motor and with the old motor, what I have to do is to hit the stop button where I want it to stop, which isn’t the end of the world. Actually, I kinda got used to it. But of course I had to tell everybody else so they don’t turn it on and walk away because it's gonna go to the full extent and then close back up again.

    But it's our vacation home and we're not up there that much. So I really don’t have a big complaint with SunSetter. There was an issue but they really worked hard to try to fix it and they sent me a motor. But I would never recommend dealing with that salesman. He even told me he's the only guy in the area. But I found out later that there was another guy who’s actually closer to me. Normally, I would just go with the closest person. He lied about that too. So I'm not happy with him at all. As far as SunSetter though, they stood behind their products.

    I moved to Pine Hills and the deck was very hot. It’s also very windy here. I didn’t wanna just do an umbrella so an awning seemed like the perfect solution. I went with SunSetter because of their price and they got really good reviews and references. Also, the representative, Chris, was wonderful and service-oriented. I chose the stripe and it matched my décor and everything. It's a motorized version. I can use the deck much more because I can sit out there in hot weather. it certainly helps in the summer, spring, and fall. Overall, it was a great experience with them.

    The installer was very competent and honest. Everything was done as promised. The person is from a part of our state where there are a good many Mennonites and Amish people who are often recognized in this area for their quality craftsmanship. And the particular firm that sold us this, also installs decks and other related products. The awning is a high-quality product but a bit expensive. But other than that, we got the nicest, largest awning that SunSetter sells. It’s fully automatic and we got the best quality materials in it. We used it some last summer. It provides shade to where I'm sitting right now in my family room and on our patio.

    We decided to get a 10 feet long, striped automatic awning from SunSetter Awnings. We had one before and liked it, but it was the kind that you had to manually manipulate yourself. Now that we are getting older, we just couldn’t manipulate that anymore. We called the SunSetter place and the owner’s daughter came. She was very good and explained everything to us. The awning came in a bit earlier than when they told us. The installation went very well. The installers put it up in one day. They came, did what they had to do, and left. And we haven’t had a problem since. It is wonderful and we’re very happy with it. We are very well pleased with SunSetter.

    We kept purchasing those canopies that you put together and felt really annoyed to see it going bad and then not being able to remove it. Our neighbor had SunSetter and their experience was really good. Getting SunSetter seemed like such an easy and logical thing to do. We liked its quality. There are color and size options. We were allowed to do as much as what was available and we kinda went with what matched our siding. We wanted a sleeve so we can cover it in the winter, but we were told that wasn’t available and they could never get one after we paid. I looked into it a few times, but it just wasn’t made available to us. It would've been nice to have a cover to winterize the awning because the winters up there are pretty harsh. But otherwise, we were happy.

    We waited a little longer than what Sunsetter first thought. For whatever reason, I had to call the representative a couple of times. They were so backed up with awnings. But once we got it they installed it in an hour or so, and we’ve been very happy with it this past summer. The awning keeps the temperature of our deck way down. And then we spent the extra money and got the remote. I would highly recommend the remote control to anybody.

    I had the worst experience with the company that sold the SunSetter awning to me. I’m a designer, and I bought them through my clients, and I had an issue with every single one. They threatened to take me to court with a multiple set of issues that I ended up just paying them to end it. They never got back to me. First, they told me that SunSetter was going to give them a new motor because it was deemed damaged. And then at the end, their guy told me I had to pay for a new motor or he was gonna sue my client. So, I had to pay for it out of my own pocket. They told me that I could get it installed by a handyman. It came with no screws. I had a guy install it. It fell. So, it also came damaged, but they told me I had to pay for a new cover because it was dragged, it didn’t come damaged. I basically had to buy an awning twice.

    I claimed all the responsibility for the first guy, never asking them for anything. But I said, “The motor was broken from the beginning.” It went on record. The minute we opened it, I had pictures, I sent it to them saying it was damaged. One of SunSetter's people that is repping their line told me they were gonna order me all the new pieces right away. It took them about three months to order me the stuff. I have emails from them telling me that they ordered the stuff. They never ordered it. I have the packing list. So, they lied. It was a really horrible experience. The company out of Scarsdale was horrible. I’ve never ever had this happen, and it was a little tricky because I was the middle man. They said they were gonna put a contractor lien on my client’s house. So, I just paid the money to end it.

    I had installed one on my own, and it was fine. It was really not so much a product problem as opposed to the person representing SunSetter. I had another one that came in okay, they put it up, and it needed to be tweaked, and it took them like six months to go out there to tweak it. “Oh, we don’t have installers,” or, “We have installers. This guy had a mental breakdown.” These were what they were telling me. I was like, “I really don’t care. I have clients that paid you good money for these items that you have to stand behind.” I won’t get involved with it again.

    We’re very happy with the product and I love the feeling of home. The kitchen window faces the south so we have a lot of sun there and having the awning out on the porch, it covers that window. Now, I can also go sit out on the deck. I couldn’t do that before. It’s just a comfortable feeling. The family get-togethers are fun too. But we’ve enjoyed the awning more, sitting out there in the morning. Joe and I started reading the paper and having our coffee there, which we had never done before. So that’s been more of a benefit.     The sales representative of SunSetter Awnings was absolutely great. I’ve been in the real estate business and I’ve seen a lot of salesmen. He was really quite exceptional. He was really good at making a connection and keeping things rolling. The guy was a real pro. Everything was fine during the installation too. We have a big bank of wooden doors and a two-storey roof over it, which means that the rain gets to the bottom of the door and it’s caused a fair amount of damage, and that mechanism is now stopped because of the awning just protecting the doors. So, that’s the good part. Everybody at SunSetter Awnings was great. We have gutter helmet as well and they did some cleaning on the gutter. Everything was just wonderful.

    The guys that put our SunSetter awning in couldn’t have been greater. They were fun. I was very impressed with them. I got the awning that was electric and I like that feature very much. I did have to wait for a while for the cover for it because they redesigned it and it wouldn’t fit on there once I got it. It was mounted too close to the top and they had changed the mounting. The only thing that they need to pay attention to when they mount it is it needs space above it to be able to put on the new cover because of the way that the hooks are made now. But it works great. I am very glad I went ahead and got one.

    We had a SunSetter at our old house. We also saw a commercial about eight years ago. When we moved in this house, we wanted to put something in the back, and we thought of the one we liked at our old house. We had to leave it in there. It was part of the rules of selling of the house. We got the motorized awning and picked the color, too. Making the purchase was very easy. They were all polite at customer service. When they were putting it up for the height and then for the angle, I had no idea how it should be but they were very helpful with all that stuff. I like that the awning works. It does what it does.     We wanted to get an awning because our patio faces the west. So far, our experience with our SunSetter Awnings has been good. Their reps were very helpful and prompt. The installers knew what they were doing. They came and didn't mess around. They drilled the holes. They hung it, tested it, plugged it in, did the whole thing and were very courteous and good. Everything went well. We used it last summer and it’s worked well. It does shade us but not as much as we’d hoped, but that’s just the way the condo was built. We do still have some couple of hours late afternoon that we’re in the sun and then it’ll drop down. Overall, it’s good. The only complaint is it was a little bit pricey, but what isn't pricey in today’s world?

    My girls had given us a little deck on the back of our house for an anniversary gift at one year, and we really couldn't use it at all in the afternoon because it was too hot. Somebody said something about SunSetter, so I got in and looked it over, and everything from there went beautifully. There were two fellows that came for the installation. Carl was one of them and he was very professional. This winter, before we came to Florida, Carl had told us about taking the little flap off.     I live in a condo community where they wanted standardization of the awnings, so I went with the company that had put in a few others, Sunsetter. Everyone was fine. The awning didn’t give me the reduction in temperature that I wanted, but it was better than not having it. They could include a dropdown curtain for the front, but I guess that’s an option.

    We had previously owned SunSetter Awnings, so we knew exactly what we wanted and what we were getting into. The salesman who showed up at our house to talk to us about it was nice and friendly guy, and it ended up we had some common friends. He was able to answer all the questions. Then the contractor, who was with his adult kids who were helping him out, came, installed it and did a wonderful job. And it was also fun watching him work. Everything went up exactly the way my wife, who is the boss, wanted it. We like that we have our back deck back. They look nice and I love the easy and convenience of pushing a button. It makes something that is unlivable in the heat of the day into a great place to go hanging out. We love SunSetter Awnings. So, the whole experience was fantastic.

    The only problem that I have had is how hard it is to program the motor and the remotes, and how they lose programming. It is too complicated. Every now and then, we have had the awnings move on their own with no one pushing a button several times now. I travel for a living and I might be gone for four or five days at a time, and the first time that happened, my wife called me freaking out. So, now we unplug them because the last thing I want is to get that thing to open during a thunderstorm while we are gone. I’ve also talked to SunSetter and we reprogrammed them, and the last time we got it set. But even using the manual, I have trouble trying to program the thing. I almost always have to call customer service people, who are great when I call them, to do it. They talk you through it and we get it done in quick order.

    I wanted the same thing as the model home and that was what I did. I like the SunSetter that I have but the people were very unprofessional and damaged the siding of my home. They altered fixtures to my brand-new home like my lights. It takes somebody the skill to know what they're doing and you can't make alterations to someone's home unless you confirm that with the customer. The only thing they were supposed to come and do was to hang the SunSetter. The guys who came out didn't do what they were supposed to do. They took me to court, lied and said they served me. If they just put what they needed to put up, we wouldn't be fighting and they would have been paid in full. Also, I was told that the awning was wind-sensitive. I asked the reps what would happen when it rains or if I forgot to put it out. They said if it was heavy wind or rain, it would go back in, and that's not true. That's false advertisement.

    The rep communicated well and stuck to the timeline that he gave me originally. He said that he was dealing with some bad weather in our area at the time, so he was backed up, but he still stuck with the timeline and was able to get everything done in time.     SunSetter's service was good. The gentleman that sold it was very good, and he explained everything. We bought an automatic. We love it. We didn't use as much in the winter but we use it all the time. It really has no problem. I would highly recommend it.     We live in a condo and have a small little deck on the west side. In the afternoon, we love sitting out there, but it gets so hot. Based on recommendations from friends we went with SunSetter Awnings. Their team was pleasant, informative and did a good job. We got a motorized, white and beige striped awning. I had to have the installers come back because once we used it a couple of times, it was rubbing at one spot. They came and adjusted it a little bit.

    The way the awning cools the deck down is amazing. It also helps cool our big living room because we have huge windows. Sometimes we even put the awning down in the afternoon during the hot weather and it helps keep the house cooler. We enjoyed our SunSetter very much last season.     My husband Dave really wanted an awning for our deck. He had seen SunSetter before and he really liked it. But I was against it at first. Then, when the guy came and showed us the fabrics and everything the next thing, before Dave knew, I was ordering lights on it. It is pretty. My sister in North Carolina has the awning too, but it came with a kind of an aluminum cover. And ours doesn't have that. They sent us some kind of a canvas thing that has hundreds of screws.

    We got the motorized awning. We worked that out. When we first got it, they put it up and then after they left we discovered there was supposed to be factory-installed lights, but we didn't get that. So then we had to wait a while, and then they came and installed them from a kit or something. So, that was the only thing because we thought we were gonna just have one plug. But we haven't had any problems with it, with going in and out.

    The professionals installed it. I wasn't there when they installed the awnings, but I was when they put the lights up. This guy was very nice. He told me he had been there to actually install and showed me how to operate everything. I always put the awning out pretty much in the summer. It helps with keeping my kitchen cool because the heat that was on the patio goes into the kitchen.

    Our house was destroyed with a flood when Florence came through and we lost everything in it. So, I’ve hauled in 75 big cans of loads of dirt from the driveway to build me up a path, and then put a double-wide on it and so it came up 42 inches above. Now, we're sitting about 9 feet above the ground so we won’t get flooded any more. Then, we got an awning to go over the back porch.

    I called SunSetter and communicated with Tim, our salesman, several times. He answered my questions and finally did the deal. But I wasn’t real happy with the installation process. Two guys showed up in the truck. They looked like they had some drug issues and were in a great hurry to get out of my house. They were very pushy and didn’t take their time which is why I think the awning ripped. Aside from asking them a couple of different times if they were in a hurry, I also asked them to fix the cord because it was all wrapped up and didn’t look neat like the rest of it. They didn’t like that. Nevertheless, everybody else had been fine. I love the awning even though it's pricey. It’s an investment and I’d recommend the SunSetter awning to somebody. In fact, there’s another one on order and SunSetter's gonna take care of it.

    My previous home had a homemade kind of canvass awning that somebody had built on it. Lo and behold, it fell down the first year we moved into the house. And then I thought, there’s gotta be people that sell awnings, like tent people, who would make a strong enough frame and the wood stuff to hold the thing up and look pretty at the same time. So, at my previous house, we got two small SunSetter awnings for the back patio, and they were just marvelous. Our neighbors were sweating away in the summer and we would pull out the shades and enjoy life.

    Now, this is my third house that I've put the same things on. I had one for about 10 years, and I got another one because the sunshine runs across the whole back of our house. We have a big patio and a built-up decking that I did myself. I’m 89 years old and I love it, going out there and working in the yard instead of sitting in the shade. And people who came over would always sit out in the backyard with us and look at the pool and the greenery and not sweat away. It was very comfortable.

    And it’s unreal how fast these awnings go up. Two guys showed up on each thing and a third guy came the last time. Within an hour, the awning is up and ready to go, especially if you have the lights on it. I also found out when I sold my home of 20 years, that the awning would look like brand-new. I just had to wash off the material. It was great. They’ve got the longevity on it and there’s not much that could go wrong. I get all electric for the winding up and unwind, and it's just gorgeous. It’s easy to use and there’s no ifs or buts about it.

    Purchased 10X16 motorized free standing awning at CostCo. Delivered on time, installation was fairly easy, works great. Was informed that Sunsetter was redesigning the cover and I would be receiving the newest version in time to cover my awning for the winter. The cover arrived, installation was easy but the quality is unsatisfactory. Has a bunch of small bull clips to hold it shut but they won't remain fastened, even with the slightest wind. The entire cover keeps blowing off into the yard. I've read that they recalled the older covers that had bungee straps due to some fool activating the awning while covered, then trying to undo the straps without completely closing the awning, resulting in the awning moving and injury. Have requested refund for cover and plan on buying Advaning's Cover at Home Depot that ties shut. I understand the need for safety but for the price of this awning, should really have a better design, perhaps a zipper that doesn't rust.

    Sunsetter recently re-designed their OASIS awning cover and has begun shipping them to customers after a Month's-long wait. The "re-design" uses a little metal spring-clip to secure one side of the wrap-around cover. The "safety-clip" (Sunsetter's term for it) is completely useless for holding a piece of vinyl fabric securely in place in any wind. The "clip" reminds you of one those wooden, spring-loaded laundry clothespins but use a weaker spring and are made of smooth metal that slides right off the fabric and the awning cover goes blowing away to who knows where. If they send you one of these things, be prepared to devise an alternative method of securely fastening the cover over your retracted OASIS awning....you'll need it!

    Let me begin that I’ve been a happy Sunsetter Awning owner for 18 years. The awning has been one of the best outdoor living space purchases I’ve made. Did I mention 18 years I’ve had this thing? Last year I replaced the awning vinyl. That said, this past July 2019 I ordered a replacement for the lateral arm cover which covers the awning when retracted. The only reason for replacing the existing cover is over the 18 years of use the color has faded some. The new clean awning cover finally arrived in mid-October 2019. Seems a bit long to get it but, the old one was fine till the new one arrived. I happily opened the box, pulled out the cover and went out to do the install where the old one has been all these years. I need to mention the cover was been redesigned.

    Unfortunately they redesigned that great 18 year lasting cover with something of a much lesser quality and made it 8 inches longer than the existing cover. By changing the length it required to grommets to be spaced differently which creates a problem lining up the grommets to the existing anchors which are mounted on the house. When I called Sunsetter Customer Service I explained what I had encountered and they promptly told me that with every cover made the space between grommets is different because they (the grommets) are adhered to the covers by hand. (Sounded like this guy just wanted to get me off the phone). I then explained that I would have to remove the existing anchors from my vinyl siding and install new anchors spaced to match the new cover. This would require more holes through my vinyl siding and patching the existing holes from the old anchors. Why would I want to add more holes in my siding?

    In this automated world we live in today, I cannot believe the Sunsetter Company is hand installing grommets. Does this sound like a line of crap? Remember what I said at the beginning of the review about being a happy Sunsetter Awning owner. Well, I still am but their customer service is less than acceptable and the engineers that redesigned the new cover need to go back to the drawing board. Bottom line, if you are planning to purchase a new vinyl awning cover for your existing Sunsetter Awning, DON’T. I will be returning it for a full refund. If you did purchase a new lateral Arm cover and encountered the same thing I did, please make your voice heard with a review and feel free to reference my review. BTW, not letting this issue fade away. My next correspondence will be to the BBB then on to see if the local TV stations would be interested in doing a story.

The sales rep was okay, but I didn't particularly like GreenPath, the finance company they had. I had dealt with that company through Home Depot and they don't seem right to me. I wouldn't even have applied if I had known it would be GreenPath. Other than that, the installers were excellent and I really liked them. They called me and came straight out. So, when the sun does hit the back of the house, we put the awning on out, and it's very simple and easy. That’s what I like. I don’t leave it out when the wind is blowing hard because I live by the water and there's no houses in the back of us, so when the wind blows, it kinda hits hard here. I've watched SunSetter ads on TV, I called them and they got a good man out here that’s doing the Sacramento area. I talked to him before and I knew his family.     Sunsetter has a contractor in Va. that installs them for customers. He installed 3 awnings in Spring of 2016. Only the model 900 was registered to my account for warranty the 2 model 1,000. awnings never made it into my account. He sent the paperwork in and gone!!. My old Sunsetter awnings were 14 years old and still worked well for those 14 years fabric was worn so we wanted to upgrade to bigger ones. My new ones broke down in 2018 at less that 2 years old. The replacement gear heads lasted only 10 months and have failed this summer. The quality is not there and for some reason they can't straighten out my account. They even charged me full price for handles that were covered under the warranty. They keep telling me I only bought 1 awning. Going back to the contractor again for help. He is as frustrated as I am.

    We had another SunSetter for about 25 years, and we were pleased with it. When we needed a new one, we went with them again. They were very thorough and they explained everything. The installers were very efficient, too. They came when scheduled and they didn’t leave a mess. Everything was fine. We got a motorized awning. My only problem, however, is the sun comes underneath the awning. It has the panel in the front but the sun comes in on the sides. So, late afternoon, when you want to eat on the deck at 5 o'clock or 5:30, the deck is in the sun. I was under the impression that we could get a side panel, but when I called they said that there was nothing to book it on to for the motorized. I didn’t realize that when I purchased it.

    During the summer on a 90-degree day, the sun sets in the west and our house faces that way. So, we get brilliant sunshine from 1 o'clock onwards and it was heating up the house and making the air conditioner come on more than it should. I thought I could plant trees there. We had some maples when we first moved here 30 years ago and that's kind of a good shade thing. But getting the awning from SunSetter was simpler. It didn't take 20 years to grow, so it helped. We set it up for purchase in May and it was installed June the 26th. So, it took them a month to do it. They may have been busy, but I've purchased an $8,000 brand new train system air conditioning because my air conditioning went out and it was installed the next day. So, it can be done.

    Other than that, we got the automatic awning and if there is no electricity, it can be operated manually because we got a retraction rod put there. And I purchased the motion sensor, although I don't really know about that thing because sometimes I watched the trees out here, and it's too windy for that awning to be out. So, I retract it myself. The installers showed me how to do that, but the guys came a second time because the first time, they didn't have it installed to where it blocks the sun. I was starting to get sun at 5:30 in the evening and the sun wasn't setting back then until 8:30. So, they sent a second crew to show me how to readjust it about a foot, he did it, and it worked out. I like it and so far, it works really good as far as blocking the sun on the porch.

    SunSetter Awnings is great. The awning itself is great, too. It’s automatic. It’s got the wind sensor on it, and you just press the button and it goes up or down. We used it yesterday. It’s a little cooler this morning. I’ll bring it out later this afternoon again. I just called Brian the other day. We do have a problem. It’s not even windy and the thing will go up by itself. Sometimes, it might go two or three times a day, then it will go three days and it’ll stay perfect. So, I called Brian and he wasn’t sure what it might be, but he said he’d stop by.     SunSetter's team did a good job putting up my awning. It took them a couple of hours and it looks nice and straight. At first, I had problems because I didn't know how to use the remote. Their rep told me to hit the reset button at the very bottom then arrow up to make it go out, down and go in. That worked for me. I tried it again though after the lady talked to me and I couldn't get the awning to go out again. I'm wondering if I have to be in a certain position because their commercial says that I can open and shut my awning while I'm in my house. However, I can't get that to work.

    I gave a previous review of 2 stars after my experience with customer service where they denied warranty on the lateral arms that were dented on my awning, saying that it had to be wind damage even though I rolled it up in winds over 30 mph and rolled it up through the entire winter. Perhaps because of this review, I was contacted by customer service and they offered to sell me the replacement arms for half price as a one time offer. I agreed, they promptly sent the parts, good instructions were provided, and my wife and I were able to do the replacement ourselves without significant difficulty. I am satisfied with their response and will probably roll the awning up when winds predicted at 20mph. I really do like the awning and hope it holds up.

    I purchased the awning a little over 2 years ago. I noticed this summer that the outer sections of the lateral arms that connect to the outer rail were crimped and do not allow the awning to retract fully. SunSetter will not warranty the $413 replacement because they say it is due to wind damage. That may be but I can assure you that the awning is fully retracted all winter and I retracted it the rest of the year when winds of 30 mph were predicted. The awning is lovely but I don't think the framing is built sturdy enough if the arms bend with normal use.

    The SunSetter awning installation was great. I was in construction business for 40 years, and I was very pleased with it. We had ordered two extra panels with it. The panel across the front is working very well, it's easy to put up and down. However, I don't see how the panel on the side is going to attach. I looked at the instructions and they were not very good, even with what I found so far on the internet. It doesn't give me enough information on how this is supposed to be supported. It has been more than a few weeks ago when we first put it up and it was was partially my fault. I can't help the fact that I got sick. So far, I haven't found the right outlet to try and figure out how this thing goes. I'm certainly not mechanical. So if there's any person in the company that knows a whole lot about how to install these side panels, I'd love to hear from them.

    I called the rep and told him I had a problem, in conjunction with the fact that we were getting the two pieces, and he said, "Well, try the installer, just in case he has one in stock, and then call the factory and ask them," which I tried to do and that didn't work real well. Other than that, everything else was so wonderful and I'm very happy. The awning works great and my grandkids love it. Now they don't have to sit on our upper deck with no shade.

    I'm not enjoying my SunSetter Awning. I haven't had time to use it. The awning is up and working, but it's not extending out the way it should all the way. The arms are still quite an angle.     I saw SunSetter's awning on television and the ad said that it was $700. When the rep told me how much it was for the size of the awning, he said that the cost was almost $4,600. I questioned that because that wasn't what the ad said on TV. He told me the size on TV was just for one window. He told me that the awning is custom made. I got one from them but then when the installer connected it to my outlet outside, it wasn't properly connected so I still had to call my electrician and pay him $360. He said that there's no cover from the rain and snow so he added an outlet.

    Additionally, the awning I got is three inches shorter than the frame. I thought it was supposed to be 18 inches but then their rep told me 15 so I went along with that. SunSetter also. had to call somebody out because the computer didn't work properly. Initially, they gave me the system that I could use manually. I have arthritis and I'm disabled so I didn't want that. Instead, I wanted something that was easier for me to use. They gave me a little button that I could push but then I couldn't get the awning to come all the way out. So, they came back and corrected that.

    My awning was up so high that it didn't shelter me from any sun at all. All it did was cover the patio but the sun is still shining all the way on us. Their team took it down and put them up over the harness which was okay because I didn't want them to take my awning. I ordered a screen and they never brought it. Summer is over and I couldn't use my yard like I wanted to. I'm supposed to pay my last payment on August 15th but SunSetter never completed the installation of what I ordered. When I got through counting the money, I paid them over $3,000, and I still owe them some money for the last payment and that screen. I don’t feel I should have to pay anybody for everything that I don’t have. I'm not satisfied with SunSetter at all.

    First this is not about the product. It would not be fair to rate the product since it was never installed. This is about service or lack of service. I ordered my awning through Costco. Process was online, easy and efficient. Once I received the awning I had a handyman look at the soffit mounts and due to how my soffit's construction these mounts would not work. I contacted Sunsetter to exchange for different mounts. SunSetter charged me over $300 to send different mounts. Once I returned incorrect mounts then I would receive a refund. After a few weeks I had not heard anything from Sunsetter. I called and followed up and SunSetter had received my brackets on 7.16.19. Stated takes a couple of weeks to process. At that point I would see it by the following week.

    It is now 8.23.19 and still no refund. I have called Sunsetter multiple times. People on phone have tried but seems within Sunsetter a person cannot pick up and call someone on a different department to help. Serious on this. Talked to multiple people to see who we could talk to to see what the hold up is. Only thing I have been told is the return is under review. The case was escalated and I was to receive email updates. So far 0 updates have been received. Poor customer service coupled with a siloed process. This awning was $3000. To charge a customer to exchange a part to install your product, I guess I understand but think Sunsetter could have secured a credit card and in case the part was not returned then charge me. Their policy though and I will elect to not do business with them.

    Once I did have the correct brackets I contacted the approved Handyman service that Sunsetter has approved in my area. Handyman quoted a fair price but when showed up the price tripled. WHOA! This now will coat an additional $1000 to install. Handyman started installing bracket and crushed brick mounted to. Handyman stopped and said we need to go roof mount.

    This time I asked the handyman to source the roof mount hardware. To this date the approved Handyman has not heard from Sunsetter. WOW! At this point I am returning the entire awning. Since through Costco I certainly hope the return process is easier. My advice is find a local company that will sell and install the product. Deal with them because Sunsetter seems unwilling to help or incapable of helping. Sunsetter if you read this, Send me my refund!

I got an automatic awning and the installation team took about 2 hours to set everything up. They did a good job. They mentioned to be careful in the high winds, and now I'm wondering how strong a wind I have to watch out for. Also, I gotta call them to let them know and to make sure that the cover, which is supposed to be delivered, should come before the bad weather. I'd like to have that by October before winter.

    Other than that, most people who come to my home are glad that I have the automatic awning. Nobody wants to sit in the sun anymore and people are conscious of too much sun. The awning is much nicer and it shades my dining room double doors, which keeps the hot sun from coming in. There's a lot of pluses to the having the awning and I'm very happy with it.

    The west sun comes in our patio door a lot, so we normally keep the drapes closed all summer, which makes it dark in the house.     We are located where the sun’s on the south of us and we needed some shade. Although SunSetter was a little cheaper, that wasn't why we used them. It was because of the guy that came out. I like doing something with someone that I feel I can relate to. The installation was great. The installers knew what they were doing and answered questions I had. They told me I should have the awning closed with a wind speed of 55, but even at 30, I can see the awning double up. I don’t like that. And I think it stretched the awning. Besides, if the wind speed is that much, I don’t need to be out there underneath the awning. I like opening it just a small amount though. My chairs, which are in the direct sun, are underneath it so it protects them too. I don’t have to have it wide open for me to sit out there and enjoy the shade, which is nice. I’m happy with the whole situation right now.

    The sun would shine in here right at the door. I went to Sunsetter because they were cheaper and the awnings are made better. We’ve ordered a manual one first. And they got it put up and then it didn’t work. It wouldn’t even roll any way, up or down. It rolled about six inches and that was it. So, we told the installing crew to order us an automatic or electric one. We ordered that, and they come out, and they put it up, and about a day later while it was expanded, it was just about on the ground. They didn’t fasten this to the house right. But they did come back the next day and we’re real happy with it. We ordered a cover for it and we’ve never seen it. They said they had to redesign them and then I haven’t heard anything about anything yet. I just hope we get it for a similar price.

    I’ve been wanting an awning for a few years, but it has been costly so I put it off. This year, I had a hospital stay and I knew I wouldn’t be going out much in the summer.     We were going with some shade on our deck because after the fire, all our damn trees burned out! We had no shade! It was either the cost of a pergola or just go with the awning. But SunSetter made an offer in that brochure that I couldn't refuse. It had a free barbecue and a discount. The model I got has an electric control. It rolls on out and stops, then rolls back in again and stops again. I was also impressed that when the wind comes up a little bit, the awning coils back up and gets out of the way. It was a pretty clever idea. For the awning, we chose this grayish color that blends okay with the rest. Our house is gray and the metal roof is blue, then the awning is a darker gray than the house.

    The two installation guys were capable too. They did their job and got it done. I'm quite satisfied with the experience overall. With summertime, it gets hot outdoors but we did have a little bit more use to the deck because of the awning. It was nice to have. I've also mentioned it to my brother-in-law who lives in Nevada.     The SunSetter awning is great. When we bought it, I thought that we also had ordered a cover for it. But we were happy with the salespeople up to installation. The service was good. I live in an HOA and I was told it wasn’t approved. And then, I found out it had been approved a year later. He worked with me and I didn’t have an increase in the cost.     I was looking at SunSetter years and years ago when I didn't even have a deck. I always liked the idea of an awning and I liked SunSetter's price. It's not false advertisement. I did look at some other ones but I did not care for some of the set-ups. Just 'cause the price is cheap doesn't mean anything to me. If you're gonna give something nice to do what I need, I'll spend the extra money.

    My SunSetter covers my whole 15 x 15 deck. It's perfect and it works for me. I got a Pro XL motorized. The guy that I was talking to said I didn't really need that to a point but I got everything I could get on it like the wind sensor and lights. The only thing I didn't get were the LED lights that go on. I really want them, but they're so damn expensive.

    The installation was perfect. There's only one local person around here that really does it and I had him install mine because though I'm mechanically-inclined, when it comes to warranties, it's better just to have somebody install it. It took less than two hours and my installer only charged me less than $400 to do everything. I got no complaints with SunSetter Awnings. I had four friends that came over and looked at my awning already. I've given them flyers and told them who to talk to.

    Our home was destroyed by the flood with the hurricane Irma and my awning got torn up. My son is a plant manager for one of the subsidiaries of SunSetter so we decided to purchase an awning from them and their reps did a good job. The awning that I got was more of the cloth type one rather than the laminated sort. I got it in nutmeg which is a light brown color. I got the electric remote too. We did it that way. It’s 14 feet wide but the original one that was on here was 28 feet wide. It must’ve been a custom-made though. However, I have a big sunroom and the awning that I got on one end barely covers it.

    The other windows that I wanted it over are 12 feet 6 inches. They’re a bit wider so I couldn’t get an awning for that. I wish SunSetter made their awning a bit wider and get up to at least 15 feet, that would be good. They could sell a lot more off them particularly here in Florida, because we have windows all over the place and we really need them. Nevertheless. the installation team was really good. They came when they said they would and they put the awning up and were professional about it. They installed another one up the street from me, and I talked with that man before I had this one put in. He was happy with his awning also.

    I purchased an awning from this company back in May 2019, at which I asked the company about making sure it would fit and work correctly in my backyard. I was told they don't send anyone out but I could order it and "hope for the best" but if it didn't fit after I ordered it I could return it and SunSetter would provide a return authorization label and send it back. They also claim that it is super easy to install (which it is not) had to call Handyman company which is one of the installers SunSetter says that they work with. Cost me $650 to have it installed to find out that it doesn't fit right in my backyard because of the overhand of my roof. When my awning is fully extended I have to duck under the awning (a lot) just to come out of it and I am only 5'4".

    I have tried 3 times to get a return authorization and have had nothing but excuses about not returning it from them. I am also now being told that if I want to return it that SunSetter only provides the Return Authorization number and it is my responsibility to figure out how to return it and gave me the number to UPS Freight. I called UPS and they want $200 to return it. HHHMMM but I only paid $49 to get it shipped to me. SunSetter makes it impossible for you to return their product especially when you are not satisfied.

    So if I return the $3200 awning that I bought I would have wasted $1219 and not even have an awning I am happy with ($320 restocking fee, $49 for the first shipping price, $200 for shipping to return it and the $650 I had to pay to have someone install it that SunSetter recommended). I am sorry but that is a lot of money to spend and have nothing for it. Even with professional installers it sill took 4 hours from them to install my awning and SunSetter claims it should only take a couple of hours. This is simply not true and the exact reason I had to waste an extra $650. I do not have a lot of money and for me to spend $3200 on this awning in the first place was a major stretch for me.

    All I want is for SunSetter to honor the original return quote that they told me and to give me a return label with the authorization number. I don't care that I have to pay a restocking fee of 10% or have both shipping fees of $49 be deducted but I am not paying $200 to have it ship back when that is not what I was told. I would have never purchased it in the first place if it was going to be that big of a risk in purchasing the awning and that big of a hassle to try and return it. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM.

    We’re brand new in this condominium, and the lady had an awning before us. We are very happy with our SunSetter awning, but I am not happy with the guy that sold it to us, and I am not done with him yet. To begin with, he did not tell us everything available. I forgot to ask, “Does this have a wind sensor?” which the old one did. The guy never mentioned it. He should have been the one to remind, "Do you want a wind sensor?" So, we’ve got the awning without the wind sensor. We’re very pleased with the product, we were very pleased with the installation, but I have been after the guy who runs the show out of West Springfield, Massachusetts.

The experience with their team was great but the rep told us that there were only a couple of sizes. He didn’t tell me that there were other companies where I could’ve purchased a larger one from. I ended up with a size 16 but I wanted something that was closer to 24. My sister’s house had a gigantic awning and I didn't realize until I went there how big it was and then, it was too late.     I ordered the 20ft XL motorized awning back in Aug 2018. The package deal was better than just buying the awning, so I did this. It came with front and side weather breakers. The front will not work due to the deck steps being in the front. I received the weather breakers in October 2018, so they were never installed. I called SunSetter to see if I could return them. I was told you only have 90 days to do this. I couldn't locate this on my paperwork. The person said sorry try to sell it on eBay. I would have thought they would have done something since it has never been open and I paid a lot of money for their product. I was even expecting a handling fee. I won't be buying any more accessories from them in the future. That's just poor customer service.

    Realized after the death of my spouse that the awning was tearing apart. The completion date was April 3, 2014. The rep was nice on selling his product and accepting check. When it appeared it was not installed correctly, we called him. Twice he came out and was very rude. The last couple of years were spent being a caretaker and letting other thing go.

    After the loss, when things started to settle down some, I noticed the tearing of one corner. I called the company to no avail. They sent a repair patch that is suppose to last three or four months. Son and I realized that that side was about half inch to an inch shorter. From the time the rep supposedly fixed the problem called on, it made a loud noise when closing it. Not very good at writing reviews, so please excuse all errors. SunSetter did offer $700 for new awning, think I would have had to pay labor chargers for repair. We paid $3088.93 for awning. Not happy with situation and cannot afford to replace it at this time. If you start off having problems, get in touch with the company right away, maybe your outcome will be better then mine.

    I had a SunSetter but I was not using it as an awning. I was using it as a door. But I had an umbrella on the patio which broke so I decided to do SunSetter Awnings. I had my contractor install it. I have it on a steeper pitch than you would normally have it on so it covered more of the late sun. The advantage of a deeper pitch is the rain doesn’t buckle it. But I have a suggestion for SunSetter. They could have a rain sensor so when the awning is out and it rains, the rain sensor will pull it back just like the wind sensor.

    We bought a condo and the patio is situated in a situation where we have full sun almost all the time. So, we felt we needed an awning to allow us to sit out there and enjoy the patio. The condo association recommended only SunSetter and a particular color which was why we went with SunSetter. We got a motorized PRO and the installation experience was great. From the time the installers got here to the time they left was probably 45 minutes. It was smooth sailing from the get-go.

    We love the awning but last week, we were sitting out from under it and there was a gentle breeze and all at once, there was a huge wind gust. It raised the awning up and it settled on one side of the roof that sort of jets out on one side of the awning, and the awning started to retract automatically. I came in to try to stop it but it wouldn’t stop and it tore a part of the awning itself. We called the person in the company that installed it and he ordered the canvass. He told us to call him once we get it. I got it within a couple of days and I called him, and he is gonna come out Monday and replace the canvass. I would highly recommend SunSetter Awnings.

    I purchased a Sunsetter awning 7 years ago.. with the more expensive fabric and wind sensor. After 7 years the unit stopped working. I call Sunsetter customer service and ran through many test procedures. They said I needed a new remote control at a cost of $51.00. After getting the remote the unit still did not work. I called back and another customer service person had me go through all kinds of test procedures again. This time they said I would definitely need a motor at $460.00. In order to change the motor on this awning I have to get on a 26 foot ladder because the motor side of the awning is that high.

    A real pain to install and pay for. After the installation the unit still does NOT work. Now I have a new remote control and an new motor. Out of frustration I removed the batteries to my wind sensor...Bingo it worked. Now I am stuck with a $460 dollar motor because it is too difficult to change back, I sent the remote back and they only credited my partial because they are too cheap to cover the shipping!!!! Bad business!!!

    It's a hot summer and the side of the house that we have covered with the awning is uninhabitable. You couldn't even use it. So, it was a wasted area and really bothered us, so we started talking among the condo neighbors and that was when we came up with the idea of getting an awning. We had one of the neighbors kinda take a leap with this and present it the HOA board, and he picked SunSetter. We were comfortable enough with the commercial, but then when a representative presented to members of the condo community, we liked what we heard and we focused in on him. Our experience with our SunSetter awning is really good. It's kind of a darker beige, and all of the ones in the community are the same standard beige. I wish it went out further. I don’t know what he was doing driving around Tucson in that shape, but he took my order, gave me some good advice and sent out a crew of guys to put the awning up.     My husband just recently became disabled. They put an addition on our home and a little deck outback outside the addition. It didn't have any coverage. I wanted him to be able go outside and enjoy being out there without getting sunburned. I felt like SunSetter was probably the best way to go or something that at least has some kind of name to it so I went with them. The company who came out went over everything with us and gave us options on different colors and different little fancy things. We ended up getting the LED lights added on to it so we can be out there in the evening. They were really nice. It was like they were never even there so that was kinda nice.

    We've been in our house for one year and last summer was just too hot to sit outside without an awning. We had friends that have a SunSetter awning.     The sun kept getting hotter and hotter on our back. Also, we have a huge patio and we like to entertain, and people kept staying in our house instead of out in the patio. So, we decided to get an awning and we purchased the Pro 17 x 11 Platinum Awning from SunSetter. We looked at three others but we didn’t like their look, style or price. SunSetter's team was wonderful, too. We called their 1-800 number and they told us that there was a local contractor in our area. So, we contacted them. The rep who came out showed us two different sets of fabric then they came up with a newer set. We ended up picking the darker one which is almost brown and I love it. That one’s supposed to be the longer lasting one and the more sun-resistant. It was different than the original and we got the features for the shade added as well as the wind.

    We had one issue when they put in the electrical box part and that gave out a couple of months after it was installed. But when we contacted them, the tech was back by the next day. He replaced it right away, so we have no issue with them. So far, the awning is working because people are staying out on the patio now. It’s a excellent investment.

    If you’re suffering in the sun in your back or the sun sets in your back, it is a necessity. If you like to enjoy your backyard like I do and you don’t really wanna be closed in to a screen den, you should get it. I also debated on getting a screen den but we’re on water and I like the view. So, I didn’t wanna be closed in. My brother-in-law will be here tomorrow and he’s been complaining about his back. So, I’ll be bragging tomorrow about our SunSetter awning and tell him that it's what he needs to get. I would recommend all of our awning's features as well. I love the LED lights and my husband was really impressed with them. I love the wind sensor, too.

    We saw an awning at our friend's house and we went with the company that they used which was SunSetter. The salesperson was good. We had a little issue at the installation where they blew a fuse on the outlet in the garage. We didn't realize there was even an outlet there so then we were having trouble. We couldn't close the garage door. We were trying to figure out down in the circuit box. We couldn't see it, so we didn't know what happened. When we called and asked them about it, they didn't tell us. That was very frustrating, but it's minor.

    We are pretty happy with our SunSetter awning. It has a nice quality. But wind will interfere with using it sometimes. When we are sitting on the deck and it's sunny because our deck faces south, we just put it out. We live on top of a hill and it's often very windy. The awning can't stay on the wind so it retracts in the wind. Sometimes, you can't use it, and our dog is afraid of it because it slaps the wind.

    I purchased the 12 feet laminated awning and we got the remote with the wind sensor. We have just a small home but we get the morning sun, and it comes in through our sliding patio doors. One of the first things I do when I get up in the morning is put that out because that makes such a difference in being able to use the back of the house. On their end, the SunSetter reps were professional and they knew the product. However, their flyer is very deceiving. It says you get this and that free, “Please call your local representative.” It makes you think that if you go through your local representative, whose name is right on the envelope, that those free things are going to come. It’s a motorized one and they did a good job installing it. I just don’t like the side curtains that I bought and would like to sell it back to them. Other than that, I recommend it.

    SunSetter was highly recommended and advertised. It also seemed to suit the bill for what I needed. I had a slab that was already poured and was used, but nothing to keep the bright sun on that west side from coming in that’s why I went for it and called them and asked them to come out. They did the installation very quickly. It was done beautifully and I really enjoyed it.

    The only thing was that when I paid it, I put SunSetter on my check and then it wasn’t SunSetter, it was somebody else and I didn’t realize it. The guy that did the work did not explain to me or look at the check. Kim, the one that handled it from this end right where I am, wanted me to put it on my card. I said no and that I'm going to wait until the check comes back so I don’t get confused and pay two or three times. She was a little upset about that. It took me a couple of weeks of waiting on the mail and to get that check back before I went to write another one. That was a nuisance having to go back and forth trying to get that check cleared up.

    Right now, I'm waiting on somebody to come and shorten one side of the awning or raise it up or tighten it. It is lower by 10 inches than the west side is and then it seemed like after we had heavy rain, it came down more. I don't know what it takes and I have no idea. I hope this person comes and gets my thing fixed. It's been three weeks now. One week, the guy was out, and then he came back and this past Monday, but I haven't seen either a hair of him. But then the issue hasn't prevented me from using the awning. I got the adjustable one or the motorized and on the first night, my cat got up on the desk and rolled it up and I didn’t know it ‘cause I had the drape shut. When I woke up the next morning, it had rained all over everything.

    I had a very small patio out in my backyard. And the aluminum awning needed to be replaced, and I wasn't so sure what I was going to do. And my son has a SunSetter and he just loves it. So, I thought I'd try it. I just needed a little bit of shade out in the back, and I just picked a plain color. I just wanted a basic covering. And I wanted the windimizer. My son said that would be a really good added feature in case I wasn't home and a wind picked up.

    The installation was excellent and everything was fine. The only problem I had was on my end of the thing. My son said that he could put in an electric outlet out there for me for it because I didn't have an electric outlet outside, and he wasn't able to do it. So, at present, it's hooked up to an outlet I have inside of my garage which is fine for now. Everything was fine with my experience with SunSetter. I didn't have any problems at all and I'm very satisfied. I would definitely recommend it.

    SunSetter was very professional and did a very good job. The guy that sold us the awning was very helpful. I bought a motorized awning and it was a little on the expensive side. The installation was fine though and their guy explained everything. I asked him some questions and got all my questions answered so I knew what was going on. I like that the awning keeps me out of the sun. It is a very nice awning and it has lived up to what I’ve seen on TV for years.

    SunSetter has been in business for a long time, and I've known them for a long time too. I also know people who have owned SunSetter awnings for a long time. It's a good product. I worked with a contractor in getting mine and the experience was fine. We sat down at the kitchen table and the guy went through a notebook with me and showed me different options. I got the first one, and then a year later, I got the second in matching color. My awnings have a sensor and would retract by themselves if it's too windy. However, they're not quite the same. They're not calibrated the same way as one is much more sensitive than the other. I'm wondering if it's a preset at the factory that you can't touch or is there a way to adjust it. Other than that, I would recommend SunSetter.

    We have had several motorhomes that had awnings on them so we were aware of SunSetter Awnings and how much we liked them. We live in Nevada. Our patio faces west and we get the afternoon sun. We love our SunSetter now. It's excellent. We were kind of limited by our HOA so we ended up with the beige one. The lady we bought it from was great. The installers were very friendly and were happy to explain what they were doing. They did a good job.
