The installers did a very good job, although it got delayed, but the sales rep was kind of pushy. I had some medical problems when I was going through this and I had to go to the hospital. They were out here and he demanded I pay him right then. I told the guys to come back after 3 o'clock. They had another installation to do locally and they came back. I like the awning very much. The only thing I'm disappointed in is that when it rains, it holds the water. The water accumulates on the top so I can't have it out when it rains.

The clips will not hold the cover down. I contacted them a week ago and was told I could get a refund. Never heard a word so called again today and was told I could not get the refund. I had the problem soon after I got the awning cover and they sent me another set of clips just like the original, I had them put on and winter came on so I never went out to the patio until a week ago just to discover the clips did not hold again. I am out close to a hundred dollars for a piece of junk. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy if I had one. They do not stand behind their stuff and they lie.
Our apologies the cover and break away safety clips are not what you expected. We are able to set up a return for you and have done so today. Typically, you have 30 days to return any product for any reason. Your original order was placed in June of 2021 so we made a policy exception for you. The agent you spoke to was not aware of the procedure to make this happen. We have educated her on the process and apologize to you for your frustration. You will receive a refund 10-14 business days after we receive your cover back in our warehouse. Thank you.

SunSetter is great. I am very pleased with the product and the options that I got to include the lights and the wind-sensitive recall feature. I'm very pleased with the installers as well. There was some shipping damage on the arms when the guys opened up the box. We discussed it a bit. They, very graciously, said, “This is not that uncommon. It does happen. So, we know what we're looking at here. And the company knows. They've heard from us before when our clients say, ‘Why is it that a brand-new set of arms for the awning is sort of slightly bent and scratched?’ And so, let's see what we can do about it.” They went ahead and installed everything, and it was functional. It just had those issues.
Days later, I got a contact back from the company here in San Antonio, and they, very graciously as well, said that replacement arms were being sent and they would have the installers out as soon as they arrived to replace those damaged arms. That's exactly what happened. We're in a retirement community with hundreds of residences, and there are newer people that have arrived in the last few months or so since we have. Every time I get the chance, I show them how the awning works, and several of them have said that it looks like a good idea to them as well.

SunSetter did what they said they were gonna do. That doesn't happen everywhere. They screwed up the first order and delivered the wrong size but they fixed that and gave my wife a chance to pick a new color. That made her happy. SunSetter resolved the problem in a reasonable period of time. Our contractor’s a pretty tough guy and he was pleased. So if he's pleased, I'm pleased.
The awning closed automatically due to wind the other day. It stays dry underneath it. But SunSetter could do a substantially better job in terms of connecting wire harnesses to the frames. It looks like zip tie heaven. Zip ties are fine, but we're in an extremely sunny climate and the zip ties will effectively over time disappear. Maybe the awning will disappear, too. The other thing is, to my knowledge, there was no choice in the pick of the color of the lights. It makes it look like a used car lot underneath the awning, whereas we spend a lot of money to light with different warmer bulbs than the bulbs that SunSetter produced.

I love my SunSetter awning so much. I just ordered a second one last November, and I'm getting ready to install it in April. I got the first one during COVID. I was home a lot, so I wanted to enjoy my deck in the sun. I called a couple of companies in the area and one couldn't be bothered with the pandemic and the other one was a little pricey. My SunSetter was worth it. I got a great purchase price, and it's a good product. Get it, too.

I got excellent service from SunSetter in a timely manner. I got the Sunbrella material, which I love. I had to get special approval for that because it wasn't one of the standards that we use here in our neighborhood. I got the LED lights, which I love too. The wind sensor is wonderful ‘cause it works. It's well worth it. The aesthetics are great. I've had other people across the lake tell me how nice the awning looks.

I called SunSetter and told them that I wanted to have somebody come out and take a look. They said they would get ahold of the person in my area. That was on a Friday and the guy called me on Monday morning, came out and measured. We liked what we saw so we ordered. The two gentlemen that came out gave me two options where they could put it. My wife and I decided that the one area was better than the other then went ahead and got them installed. So far, it's been a very positive experience.

They came out and looked at the site. They gave us an accurate measurement of what would work best. They were on time for the installation. The awning came in faster than we thought it was going to but some accessory is still missing. SunSetter didn't ship completely. But I'm pleased with the way the awning works. The only thing I don't like about it are the side shades. You have to manually put them on and take them off.

The awning is okay with the sun but not the rain. If the rain falls and the awning will be down. It doesn't serve the purpose for the rain. I want it for the rain but they say it mustn't get rain. Other than that, SunSetter's team was very good.
Thank you for taking the time to write your review. You should always retract your awning during a storm. To keep water from pooling on your awning you can adjust the pitch (angle) of your awning. Please visit the Owner's Corner on our website or consult your User's Manual paying specific attention to "using in the rain" section for instructions on how to adjust the pitch You may also call customer care for DIY assistance. The Fabric on your awning is water repellent and will protect you from light rain and passing showers, as long as the water does not pool on the fabric.

The rep knew what he was talking about and represented his company well. We purchased a 16 foot by 8 foot awning that has a remote control and a wind sensor. It blocks out the rain and later on in the year, it will block out a part of the sun. It's functioning well.

Our SunSetter awning, so far, is terrible. It rained and the sensor never went. It was windy and it never closed up. It got full of water and I couldn't close it, so I had to get the water out. Now, I was told I could put in some type of bows to keep it from sagging. So, I'm not too happy so far. The guy who did come out gave me some cockamamie story that it should be this, it should be that. That was not what he told me when he first installed it. Also, the awning is kinda low. It feels like it's right on top of my head. So, I need to be up there because it was my son who is up there. I'm down south. I come and go up and back. So, I have to make an appointment with the guy to come out and see if we can put those bows in to keep them from not sagging. I'm very dissatisfied. Everything that they said it would do, it hasn't done.

The SunSetter representative was very good. He spent more time than he anticipated. So he had to make a call to his next appointment and apologize because we were taking too much of his time. He went over the product. Everything went well. The only problem that we had was the time that we waited was well beyond what we were quoted. We were quoted 4 to 6 weeks and it took 12 to get it. I understand with COVID and everything else, that there’s a lot of stuff that's been backed up. It took a lot longer. Had I known that, I would have been prepared for it. But it got a little frustrating when I would call, and they would say, “We still don't have it.” But that wasn't their fault.
We went with everything with our awning. The size is 10 by 12. There was a booklet where we were able to choose the color and the pattern of the design on the awning itself. We got the LED lights, the motorized one, the wind sensor, the sensing unit on it. The installers were very friendly and cordial. They ran into a couple of problems. They couldn’t find the studs on the outside wall. They ended up having to go into the attic to find the studs because they wanted to make sure that it was anchored securely to those studs. One poor gentleman had to go up in there and it was at the opposite end of the house where the entrance area was to the attic. But they did a great job. They got them all hooked up. They were here way after dark, putting this thing together and making sure it was done the right way.

The rep was kind of a character. He was a little offensive. He would come in several times while we were putting the awning up and wanted a glass of water. He would ask if we had something else besides water. He was a pleasant guy but kinda overstep his boundaries. He initially came to look at the old awning that we had then proceeded to talk us into a new one. But it wasn't a hard sell and I like the product. We had to order the thing that makes the awning come back if it gets really windy and there was a delay in having that come.

SunSetter installed our awning well and it looks beautiful. It came down from the rain, so they had to put another one back up. We always tried to retract it any time we were gone so that wouldn't happen. However, we didn't know it was gonna rain at all and when I came back, it was already down. I was shocked that in that short amount of time, the awning was brought down. They had not told us about that. I would have appreciated them explaining that from the beginning to me. But now we know through experience, any time, even if I'm gone for an hour and the skies are clear, I'm gonna retract it.

The sales rep needed more knowledge on the awning. She knew what it was but didn't tell me everything about it like the outlet that I got to have power to. When we first got ours, the installer put both of the awning out, a big one and a small one, over a door. We had it out one morning going to church on Sunday. A shower came up, filled it up with water and broke the big one before he could get out there and put the outlet in. It would have been nice if they would have told us we needed the outlet. I thought he was putting it in the same day he was putting the awning up. But he said he had to come back three or four days later. We had to go ahead and use the warranty on it. I had to pay $90 for shipping cost then repay him about $600 before he put up the new one. The guy did an excellent job putting it up but the sales rep needs to tell more about it upfront that if you don't have an outlet, it’d be best to go ahead and put it up so they can work.
Thank you for your feedback. We will follow up with your local place of purchase to let them know.

We bought two SunSetter Awnings for two different houses. In the first house, we picked it out on our own. It had the Good Housekeeping seal. I liked all the reviews I read, and we thoroughly loved it. We sold that house and then we bought into a 55 and older community that Toll Brothers built. SunSetter was the only recommended awning that we were allowed to put up. When I found that out, I thought, “Well, that's no problem. We've dealt with SunSetter. We had no issues with it.” We were very happy with the gentleman that installed and sold it to us. Unfortunately, they were backordered for so long. We ordered it in August and we did not have it put in until right before Christmas time.
We have golfed on some golf courses and I have recognized the SunSetter awnings, and some of them had the lights on them. We had purchased the lights with our first house and used them. We did not purchase them yet for this awning. I was hoping they would kind of change the style because they're more like a round ball and now, you see those LED-like lightbulb lights that are a little bit more popular. It would be nice if SunSetter would design something like that to hang on the awnings. You can buy those light packages at Costco or wherever and you plug them in. I would be right on it if I knew SunSetter had them versus those plastic balls that they have. They look a little outdated.
Thank you for being a long time SunSetter customer. We are not carrying the globe shaped patio lights anymore. We do carry the LED strip lights for nighttime enjoyment. Please check out our website at sunsetter.com to find out more about our LED lights. We appreciate your business!

We placed our order to SunSetter with the expectation of delivery for May. We happen to be in Florida right now, and the purchase was for a property up in Massachusetts. When we bought it, we had a time when no one was wanting to be sitting outside. So, we were trying to be proactive to make sure that everything was ordered, received, and ready for installation as soon as we got back.
We went with SunSetter because of the dimensions I was looking for. I was looking for that extra depth. We have ordered the XL depth. The deck in the townhouse that we recently purchased happens to be 11.5 feet deep. So, it's like it is custom made for it. I called in and spoke with a representative. She ended up telling us that we would have to find an installer and she gave us the names of installers. We met with the installer first because we weren't even sure how feasible it was to install and would we be happy with the choices that had to be made for the installation. In the process, they also act as a sales rep. We fully recognize that we paid more for doing it through the sales rep, but they were looking at all the aspects of our property and were going to be responsible for getting it installed. So, there were pros and cons. I could have ordered through the 800 number, but then it was on me to make sure that I’d done things right.
The only thing that was weird is the information I got from the 800 number was in direct conflict with stuff that I was told via the representative that I was ordering with directly. She was pretty appalled by it. That aspect was confusing and I kept going in circles. I was like, “You sure? I've been told I cannot order that.” She said, “Of course, you can order that.”
With the type of fabric mine is ordered in, the 800 number person had told me that that was not an option. The brochure would imply that it was not an option. Also with the 800 number person, I had found some difficulties with the reading of the website and had questions for her, and she got combative slightly with me on that when I told her, “Look, this is a customer giving customer service feedback that I found this aspect difficult. It might be worth the company knowing that I had difficulties finding this, that this would be valuable.” I got really snappy back with her. Other than that, we are expecting to be very happy with our product. We're excited and looking forward to it and looking forward to what it's going to do for us and the usability of our guests.
Thank you for your feedback. We do apologize for the initial confusion. We are thankful you decided to place your order, and hope you enjoy many years under your awning.

We own two of Sunsetter Solar Easy Shades that we purchased through Costco. We haven't used them all that much (possibly several dozen times over the last 4 years) and when we returned to Florida from up North in November, we tested the shades. The one worked fine, while the other shade didn't work at all. After a lot of fiddling with the hand-held remote control, we finally got it to work, but only sporadically, and when it did work, it went "down" pushing the "up" button, and "up' using the "down" button. It would sometimes get stuck halfway down, and then we couldn't get it back up.
We have spent lengthy periods of time on the phone with Sunsetter Customer Service (three different customer service reps over a several month period) trying to re-program the hand-held remote. The first person thought it was an issue with the solar panel, so she suggested that we purchase a replacement Solar Panel (for $170), which Sunsetter doesn't manufacture - and which you can't just purchase a replacement Solar battery for. We went ahead and purchased the replacement Solar Panel and installed it, but the shade still didn't work correctly.
The second person we spoke with spent an hour with us on the phone trying to reprogram the hand held. She suggested that we replace the battery in the hand held, but if we still had a problem, Sunsetter would provide us with a new hand held for free, and she would put that in her notes. We replaced the battery a week later (not a common battery), but continued to have a problem and called back again, and spent another hour with a third customer service representative trying to reprogram the hand-held, but to no avail.
This individual told us that the second customer service rep had put nothing in her notes about a replacement remote, and if we wanted one, it was going to cost us $52. In the alternative, he helped us re-program the good hand-held (from the second shade that does work), but couldn't get us the free hand-held we had been promised - for the hand held which no longer worked. The whole experience with Sunsetter has been one of frustration, as the Company doesn't appear to stand behind its product.
Anyone buying the product needs to realize that the expensive solar panel is probably only good for three years, and even then, any payment they might make will only be pro-rated. We spent nearly $1,000 for the two shades that we've hardly used, in addition to the $170 for the new Solar Panel. To spend another $52 was just going to add insult to injury. Had I known that the Solar Panels were only good for 3 years, I would have gotten a motorized shade, as we did have an electricity source within a couple feet of the one shade.
We have 22 Solar Panels on the roof of our house here in Florida, and have had them for almost 5 years now. They continue to work just as well as the day they were installed. For a product that costs as much as these shades cost, we shouldn't have all these expenses after just 4 years, especially with the low usage. While the customer service folks were all apologetic, and spent time trying to help us solve the problem, they had no power to really do anything, other than walking us through the incredibly complex reprogramming process. The complexity of the reprogramming process could be the subject of an entirely new review. In summary, I would not recommend these shades to anyone, and I would give our experience a rating of "1", and that's only because the customer service folks did spend time with us trying to correct an obviously flawed product.

I really like him. The install team did a great job and I was really pleased with it. We have a motorized awning attached to the house. It's ice and snow Idaho so I put three feet out just to keep the patio doors clean. So, I can still have a chair out there that won't get covered in snow.
Thank you for your kind words. We are happy to hear you had a great experience. Please remember not to let ice and snow build up on your awning. You should always retract it in inclement weather. Be safe and enjoy!

We had to build a deck onto our house, and my husband missed an overhand. So, we needed something and I liked the idea of a retractable from the roof. Our friends have one of SunSetter's blinds. We liked them, and we liked their shades. So, we thought we should get one too. The guy that helped us choose the awning was great and came out and measured everything. The people that installed it were really good, very quick and very professional. The problem is that Sunsetter had gotten the order wrong. So, the people that installed it didn't have all the right parts because it hadn't gotten transferred to the order correctly. Then, we had to get that picked up.
In the meantime, something happened to the awning. It wasn't rolling correctly, and the motor sounded horrible and it was skipping. But it was also cold that day. So, they unrolled it and rerolled the next time they were there, and it seems to be doing better. So we're just going to keep an eye on it. I wish it had been perfect, and not had any odd wrinkles in it, and made any weird noises, but it did. We went over to our friends' house and listened to theirs, and theirs was much quieter. But it might just be the unit. I thought that it seemed like a nice quality product. We went with the cheaper fabric. There's two different types that they sell. One is SunSetter, and the other one comes out of Florida. I wish we had gone with the more expensive one because you actually do see a lot more of the dots of sun through it. But it matches our house perfectly, so it'll be fine.

They came out to the house. There were three guys, and they put the awning up in less than two hours. The salesperson was there too. So far, it's working beautifully. In this day and age, the awning came much faster than SunSetter quoted us. We purchased the motorized and we love it. We were concerned about the height of it and it trapping a lot of leaves, but those were not concerns. I wish there were more choices of fabric. Because the choices in the lower one, we couldn't apply to the upper one. We wanted the sun protection. SunSetter's sales rep was good and knowledgeable. Installation was great. The only thing that I reported back to the company was the cover of the awning is really hard to get on. I did send them an email, but I hadn't heard back. They sent these safety strap things. It was like an act of God to even trying to figure that out. There's no video online. Two other people in our community had some installed the same week. We couldn't figure out the safety thing. We finally called the company and they said, "Oh, don't use those. It'll take you hours to get that on. Just get some bungee cords." That was what our neighbors have done too. We got bungee cords, so now we have this several thousand dollar huge awning with these bright green Menards bungee cords on them. For something that cost that much money, I thought they'd figure out a system for a cover with a zipper. Other than that, it's good quality.
We are happy to hear you are enjoying your SunSetter awning. Thank you for your purchase. Please make sure you do not use bungee cords with your cover. Please take a look at your owner's manual for how to install your awning cover correctly with the Breakaway Safety Clips Kit. We bought a SunSetter for our house 12 years ago. Our cottage got destroyed in a hurricane last year because a tree came down. That tree was what gave us shade. In August, we couldn't even step foot out onto the deck to get any shade. So, the family decided to get an awning based on the experience that we had with SunSetter. One sister didn't want to go with it because it's too much of a hassle. They don't have a SunSetter. Theirs was another brand where you got to lift poles and do this and do that. I convinced her though. With SunSetter, you just push a button and it opens.
Eric's Awnings did the installation. They were very good, knowledgeable and professional. The awning at the cottage is starting to get holes in it, so we decided to go with a different material down at the cottage. Hopefully, it holds up because it's right on the water. I'm afraid of the salty air. I did ask about if a beloved seagull flies over and decides to put a nice little deposit on it, the rep said, "No, it should clean up pretty good." He showed me how to clean it. We got the wind sensor with it, too.

We really like the fabric. We got the premium model with the hood and powered. The only thing I don't like is the wire harness for the power and the module, how it has to be mounted separately on the wall up with the unit. The cables are extremely long and there's really no means of securing that, so I had to come up with my own way of making that look good. All the installers could do is just roll the wire up.
It'd be nice if there was a secure tab or wire ties that could hold the wire up and out of the way, which is what I did. I used sticky-back automotive tape and got the cable up and out of the way, and it's all tucked out of the way so that no one can see it. But the module where everything plugs in for the power and the LED lights, has to be mounted separately with the termination points. It looks a little off. I ended up speaking with a girl in the office and she was very helpful.
When the order was put in, I had to work through the owner that was selling the house. He took some time to find out if the insurance company was going to cover it. The original fabric that I picked became out of stock by the time that the deal was being finalized. I was trying to get ahold of Andre so that he could help facilitate this but he said, “No. It's out of stock.” I tried to call him back to say, “Call me.” But he never called me back. I called the girl in the office and she kind of stayed. I ended up talking to her about three times. Finally, when the stock came in, she said, "I just want you to know I did get the fabric for you. I had two companies come out and the salesman from SunSetter was a lot better at explaining the awning. At the time, they had a few deals that helped me make up my mind on it. They gave $500 off plus a free wind device that will close the awning up automatically by itself if it gets too windy. The people came out and measured for it. The gentleman said what the price would be. I asked how long it will take and he said about five weeks and that I'll get a call within five weeks to actually install it. He didn't ask any down which was surprising to me.
They called up and said they would be able to be out at a certain time. They came and installed it relatively quickly. The guy putting it up was very knowledgeable and explained everything about the awning, how to work it, and any problems we might have. He also said that if I have any problems, call the main office and they would take care of it. After I had the awning, I opened it one time and then, I waited about a week to open it again because it was really rainy out and it wouldn't work. I called to talk to customer service. They ran me through some things and we still couldn't get it to work.
I called the main office and talked to a gentleman named Matt who was the owner of Weather Armor. He sent out a guy to check it and we found out that the motor was shot. He ordered another motor and it was sent out via FedEx. Within several days, we received it and they came out and put it in. It opened up and ran fine. But then there was a power outage and it wouldn't work so they had to send somebody out again to reset it.
The last time the guys came, I told them that there seemed to be a problem when the awning closes. One of the arms doesn't close as far as it should. They adjusted that and reset it. So far, after that, it's been working okay. They've had to come out several times, but they were very nice on the phone. If I had a problem with it and call, they'll come out and fix it if there is one. I have been pretty happy about that. The quality of the product is good too. I just had the experience with a bad motor, but that could have happened to anybody.

I've had multiple SunSetter awnings on multiple homes that I've owned. I got my first one probably 20 years ago. The latest one was about a month ago. The guy who sold it followed up with me. Then the installation was a breeze. When I got home, it was done. I've had two more and I installed those myself. I'm very happy with it. I'm actually using it these days in the afternoon.
Thank you for being a long time customer Aster, we appreciate your business.

Initially, I called SunSetter direct. But here in Fort Dodge, it would be difficult for me to find someone to install the awning. So then, I decided to try to find a dealer. And there isn't one in our area, so I had to go to Clear Lake. The installation went great. It didn't take the techs very long to get the awning up and working. If you want shade or you want to enjoy your patio, a SunSetter awning is the thing to do.

We purchased the awning because we were in the sun all the time. We like the sun, but we like the shade, too. The gentleman who sold the awning to us was very good and we've had good experience so far. We didn't get to see the awning rolled out because the reps installed it and we closed up our cottage at that time, so we have not used it yet. So next spring, we'll get to see it and hopefully when we get to use it, it'll be fine.

We bought a SunSetter awning for my daughter. It looked like a good quality product. Our sales rep wasn't pushy and he just talked things over. We got the 10-year awning with boom arms and it came with a cover on it. It's automatic and it has a wind sensor on it as well as lights. The installation went really well. Right at the moment, I'm pleased with SunSetter and what they did. I even got a thing that was unusual but the installer sent me a message saying it was time for the fall cleaning, which we just put up two weeks ago.

Josh, the rep from SunSetter, was nice and very personable. The installers were professional but one of the wires was tucked in behind the railing. We love the awning although the lights never worked. We called several times and didn't have any luck to have them fixed, so we said that we paid for half and we're not going to pay the other half until we're satisfied with what we have. So, the reps are going to come and take the lights off of the awning and take the price off of that, and that's fine with us. We were just trying to be extravagant at the time but we can get by without those lights. They looked nice but they didn't work.

The guy that sold the awning to us was good. Then the people that installed it got it working, except I had bought a wind sensor, and then when it was put on, the guy tried to program it and it screwed everything up. It'd go out and then it'd stop. They wind it back or it might go all the way out and it wouldn't come back. They called somebody who said that it must be the remote and that they would send a new one. The new one came then I had to wait till it wasn't windy. They came up and programmed the new remote and got it to work.
Then, all of a sudden, it only went out a little way, and then it would come back. Sometimes, it would even go out. We called the guy that sold it to us, but it just went to his cell, and the guy said to call his number. We waited and waited, and nobody called back. I called the guy too and he never called back. Then, on Saturday, this guy came back and asked if the sales rep called me, and I said no. He looked through the instruction book and he called someplace for help, and he got ahold of some lady. She walked him through everything and they got it working one time, and then it wouldn't work again. The guy told the lady about it and the lady said to wait a while because we were running it in and out so much that the motor got warm. We let the motor cool down, and then it worked well. The only problem now is it's been so windy and the sun ain't shining. I haven't run it out since. But then it's a good awning. Go ahead and order it if you want it.

We like the quality of our awning. It's great. I would recommend it. We tried a different method in the area that we put the SunSetter in. We bought a kite-looking thing from Home Depot. I knew it wasn't gonna work, but I had to satisfy my wife and try it. We ended up bringing it back. I said, "We just gotta spend the money on this SunSetter." It's a little expensive, but I know the quality is really good. SunSetter's been around for a long time, so that was why I called.

I didn't know if the side arms were supposed to be totally straight or left kind of sideways. My wife wanted an awning to block the west sun. She called SunSetter and made an appointment to have somebody come out and take a measurement and go over it with us. We asked a sales rep directly if this was totally enclosed. He said, "Yup, you won't see anything when it's closed up." But it's not and that upsets us a little bit. We look out our window and see the arms hanging down and all the back of the underside. Around the front, they got six or eight-inch valance across the front that hangs out.
The installer is very nice and seems to be straight up and honest. He ran into some problems. He got it up there finally, and said it didn't work right, and they are replacing it. It's on order right now. Also on the underside of the awning, it was all frayed and that wasn't part of what he saw. This is what we saw later on. So, we're having issues. We waited seven weeks to get it, we got it, and now we had to reorder another one. What we have now does what we wanted it to. The other thing is the frame on it is like an off-white. We have a log home, and so we got this off-white framework staring at us. It'd be nice if they could offer like maybe a brown or beige and a white. Overall, I would recommend it.

I got a couple different estimates from three different companies, including SunSetter. The price and the look of SunSetter were better than the others. The sales visit was fine. The rep quickly gave me an estimate and it was fair. He said he could install it where I wanted it installed and all would be good. It’d just take six weeks to get it and then he'd install it. All of that was fine with me.
We did run into a little bit of a problem after installation. I was not home when the installation was completed and when I looked at the situation, I was really unhappy with the way the awning was placed on the back of my house. It was too low. I could see the cassette and sort of the guts of the mechanics. Outside, it blocked part of my kitchen window. It almost made it impossible to open my patio doors which swing out. So I was really disappointed.
I got the installer back on the phone, and he said, “Well, I really couldn't install it higher because there's that pipe there.” I said, “We had the discussion about the pipe,” which was a PVC drain that comes out of my attic through the stucco. It drips the water condensation from my air conditioning unit and I said, “We could change that. We could move it. We could cut it off and I'll deal with that.” He didn't seem to remember that part of the conversation. So he just installed it in a lower position, which looked wrong. It was not where it belonged.
Long story short, I mentioned to him that I would be calling SunSetter if he didn't want to come out and fix it. So he called me back and he said, “I'll be out on Wednesday and I will move it.” Then he came out and moved it two inches higher. It took him 20 minutes. He made it right. It looks great. I’m extremely pleased with the awning. I would consider putting it on my second house.

I've had my first SunSetter since early 2004. It was a manual. I had no trouble putting it up. That thing went through a hailstorm and there's a million holes through that thing. But I kept it up. Sometimes, if we knew the weather was getting extremely bad, my son and grandson would come put it up. Hurricane Sally, everybody was busy. I just left it and went to my son's house. Came back, half of it was ripped off the house. They insisted I get this one where I just have to push the button. If I get that with a push button, I don't have to call them. I can do it myself. SunSetter put it up, and when they put it all the way out, I had a 4.5 foot head clearance to come under. Everybody else is five eight or five ten and above. I enjoyed having it up there. I didn't have to stand and lock the door in the rain. I have a 10 by 30 open deck. So I just had a 12-foot awning, but it made such a difference out there under that thing.

I liked SunSetter's longevity in the industry. However, we had to chase them down. I know that there is a pandemic and that supply chains are an issue, but that should not change a company's commitment to good communication. When we were told that it would be seven to eight weeks, and we still hadn’t heard anybody after that time frame, it wasn't easy tracking down what the status was. But it's not that big a deal. The guy that showed us our options did a good job of letting us know what we could get. The installers also did a good job. It was a 20-foot unit. And they got it in through the garage out the back door and installed on on the side of the house with no major issues. We keep it open most of the day unless there’s high wind just to provide shade for the deck area. It also helps us to shield the sun from some of the windows in the house.

Shawn was great. He’s a local gentleman and he was on time. It was my mother's idea to get a SunSetter awning and when Shawn was coming out to tell us about it, my husband said, “Well, let's get one, too.” We sat down with my mom, picked the color, and he suggested the style of it. There were some challenges of the way her door opened and the way the sun came. In Nevada, the sun is really hot in the morning so she couldn't go outside. We picked hers then we came to our house and Shawn showed us the same thing. We also picked colors, the style and what he recommended.
My mom's awning is good, but we couldn't get that big of an awning, and we had to roll down the screen. The only challenging thing for her is it's hard for her to put that screen down to block the sun. However, what I like about it is it has the wind thing. We have a lot of wind in Nevada and we don't have to worry about it. When the wind blows, the awning kicks up and automatically rolls up, which is awesome. In the end though, we were the happiest ones that got it. Our house would really heat up because of the way the sun would come into our dining room window, but ever since we got that SunSetter, it's cooled things off for us. The quality is excellent, and we are enjoying ours much more than my mom is.
Although there were some disappointments with installation, I can't blame the company with it. My husband was thinking ahead more than the installer. We wanted to make sure that the cord wasn't going to dangle down on both locations and the timing gave us time to find an electrician to set up a way to plug in the outlet, so it wouldn't dangle and look cheap. That part was good. We could prepare ahead and the guy was helpful in helping us decide where we needed to put that outlet.
