SunSetter Awnings is the largest American manufacturer of retractable patio, window and deck awnings. The company produces four different awning types, including motorized and manual hand-cranked models. Most of the awnings attach directly to a structure, but the company does have one freestanding model.     The guy who put up the awning was great. He told me when he was coming and if I could be there when he was there. He kept in touch and worked with me. He was also very thorough.     Everything was perfect with the sales team. The awning is very nice. But I'm curious about the warranty and the price, why it was so expensive. On TV, it says you can purchase a SunSetter for $600. Where do they get the nerve to advertise that? Ours cost $4,500 and that's the same thing they show on TV.

    I had an awning put up last year from SunSetter and we enjoyed it very much. Then, I have a lower deck, so we got a bigger one put it there just recently. The only problem I have is that I was supposed to get a floor mat or something part of the deal, which I haven't gotten yet. They said it got lost. Plus, the team had to come back and make some adjustments on the awning. It doesn't close quite right yet. But we like everything about it so far. Give SunSetter a call. They're pretty good.

    I had a SunSetter Awning previously and I had it for many years. We did a bunch of renovations on the house and when they took it down, I saw that the material had gotten shredded. So putting it back up was just silly, with the house being all pretty. So we got a new one. I went with a motor this time and it's blue and white. I definitely love the SunSetter Awning. It's pretty. Everything went really well and smoothly, other than the length of time. When I made the purchase, they said it would be about three weeks and it ended up being five weeks to install. But that's with everything these days because of the pandemic. But it came at the perfect time during the sunniest week of the summer so far. I was able to sit on my deck.

    I had an excellent interaction with the sales and installation team. But I am having an issue with my motorized awning. One of the arms doesn’t come in completely all the way. It kind of sticks out a little bit. So when it's closed, the little ruffle doesn't hang properly. I did text the person that installed it, but I haven’t heard back from him. I know he’s very busy. So, I’ll put another call in to him. Also, I need to know how to protect the awning for winter because it wasn't discussed at all. So if there's a way to purchase a cover for it, I would be interested in that.

    SunSetter's sales guy was great but there was a bit of a struggle when he was trying to help me get to the right person for getting the electric installed. When I called him, he said that they were all backed up and there was only one guy doing it. But they want me to have the cash ready for him to call any day and in my opinion, the process is sort of backwards. So initially, I was ready to cancel the order. Until now, I still don't have my awning and I have yet to hear from the installer to schedule the installation. All in all, the sales guy has been doing all he can to help, but their scheduling is not so great. And the finance reps tried to get me to pay for the awning before I even had it, so that part's not so great either.

    We called SunSetter and they gave us the name and contact information for their New York City representative. They install and they're also the dealer here. We can buy the product directly from SunSetter but then we would need to go find an installer. But we thought there’d be some value to paying a little extra and going through the local rep. That rep met with us and everything went fine. We made a selection in terms of what color and size of awning we would get. She figured out what the cost would be and wrote the whole thing up.

    They also do screens and doors so we also bought a screen to go to the doorway leading out into the terrace where the awning is gonna be. She said that screen could be installed within a week. A month goes by, we still didn't have it. It was all the stories about how her installer had disappeared and she didn't know where the guy was. I finally said to her, I said, “Forget it.” I said, “Cancel the screen. Let's just go with the awning. And when the awning comes in, we'll have you install it." But we ended up with a very sizeable deposit with her because we included the screen. That ultimately was the size of the contract and I was a little concerned about that.

    We ordered the awning on May 17th and she said it would definitely be in and installed before the end of June. As we got closer to the end of June, there was no sign of the product and she kept blaming SunSetter for not shipping the product to us. Also when we ordered, I said to her, “You obviously have done this work around New York City. With apartments, you're familiar, you got to get a certificate of insurance and whatever else." She said they dealt with that all the time and they would take care of it. The day came when we made arrangements for her installer to come with the product to install it. They showed up on time but the building would not let them in because she never took care of the certificate of insurance that they require or getting approval to come in and do the project.

    So I had the super, who was pretty upset with me and he said I was supposed to make sure the installing company does this and this. I told the super that the rep told me she was taking care of it. The super told me he can't let the installers in the building so they left and took the product with them. I called the rep immediately and said, “You never did the certificate of insurance.” She goes, “Well, I need to know what format they want.” I said, “Well, if we had had this conversation on May 17th, I would have gotten it for you.” So I immediately went back to see the super, he emailed me the format that's required, I immediately emailed it over to her. That's where she has gone silent. I have left numerous phone calls, text messages, and emails for her but I haven't gotten a single response from the rep since that conversation.

    Eight days later, we still don't have the awning installed. I called my credit card company and disputed the deposit. They said they'll reach out to the vendor and maybe that will get the rep's attention. I called SunSetter and they said they would send an email to her and give her 24 to 48 hours to respond. I said, “That's ridiculous. Given the story I just told you, she should respond immediately." I hate to think I'm gonna have to start all over, but I have to go to a more reputable company than SunSetter because it's going to at least have distributors and installers they can control and make sure they deliver on their promises. If I had my best friend say they were going to hire them, here in Manhattan at least, I would say, “Don't do it. Buy from somebody else.”

    Back in may of 2020 ordered a Sunsetter awning, salesperson said we would get it by end of June 2020, didn't get it until November of 2020, so had to pack it up for winter, fast forward June 25th 2021 ordered a side weather panel to block out sun, they told me no more than 2 weeks, called July 6th to check status of order, response I get is it's on backorder. Won't get it until August, just in time to pack it up for fall because sun changes direction and I won't need it. Why the salesperson just didn't tell me this when I ordered it I don't know, very very frustrating!!!

    We love our SunSetter. There was a bit of a smaller size, but we went for the bigger size that incorporated the window next to the deck, so that window is shaded as well. The sales rep was a nice guy. Two other people in the condo complex were also getting an awning at the same time, so the company gave us a bit of a break, which was the deciding factor for my husband. I secretly have been wanting one for four years since we moved to our condo. I kept dropping hints and finally, it stuck. We didn't have a choice with the color because everybody’s has to be the same, but it's a neutral color that would go with anything. I like the way it unfolds too.

    We were told the motor was guaranteed for 10 years. A friend of mine had one, and she said, “I used it a lot until the motor died. And I found out how much it was to replace the motor. And then I never used it again.” It is expensive to have the motor replaced and that made me feel bad because the last 10 years went by like a blink. Apart from that, I'm thrilled with the awning.

    We have a little ranch home, white with black shutters, and we wanted something white with those black stripes. And we found what we liked at SunSetter. But we had a little difficulty with the installation. They had an appointment date but they called me the day that they were supposed to be here and they said they couldn't make it. Their crew was over on the east side of the country and that was upsetting for me because we waited five weeks. But Howard, the owner of the company, called me and apologized for what happened. He said that he'd get a crew out here in four days, and he was here the next day where the crew was here to put it on. There were three guys and they got here at 11 o'clock. The installation took about three hours and they were very professional. They were courteous and they cleaned up everything. They even picked the bags up on the yard that were laying there.

    We had some Sunbrella product, which was a standard awning up north for many years. We were very pleased with the Sunbrella product line, but this wasn't a retractable awning before. To continue with the same product that we were very pleased with fabric-wise was great. I wasn't sure how the mechanism was going to be, but it turned out to be extraordinary. The reps and installers were phenomenal too. No trying to upsell us on any given thing. There was one minor little glitch about electrical power, but that the installers took care of it.

    Most of the people I know know about SunSetter. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine was the one who referred the rep over to me because she was in the process with them. SunSetter's sales rep knew what he was talking about and he was able to take care of what we needed. The installers were great as well. I pretty much had to call to see if the awning was in, but that's not unusual with all the stuff that's been going on in this world lately. Despite that, the installation was on time because the sales rep said it would be in in six weeks and when I called, it was seven and they had it. They just never got around to call me yet. So far, we really like the fact that the awning keeps the sun away off of our deck. Now we can sit on our deck and enjoy it.     I'm highly disappointed because they said I’d pay for everything in May and at the end of June, it would arrive and ready to be installed. But I have not received it. I called SunSetter and they said that they show on file that it was delivered to the installer and they would get back with me. This was the poorest customer service I've ever experienced in my life, where no one could tell you what was going on, but they get $2,000 cash from me. I haven't heard back from them. I’m at the point now where I’m about to change my mind and tell them to refund my money. It is almost three months, and nobody seems to know what they’re doing. No one is doing a follow up.

    In this house, I get full sun all day. I had umbrellas but they didn't cover my deck. I called SunSetter and the guy who came out and sold the awning to me was really good. He wasn't pushy and just gave me the bill. Then he told me what to do if I wanted to do proceed with the purchase. The whole process with them took four weeks and I love the awning. It solved my issue and it's a really good investment. You can go out there on the deck and sit now. We're getting a lot of the wind at the moment, so I put it up. Then sometimes I'll just go ahead and close it. Or it'll close on its own if it gets too windy. It’s also a nice feature to the house.

    The installers had a little tough time because of the installation obstacles, but they worked hard to get the motorized awning up. They had to attach it through a Bedford stone wall, go through the stone blocks, and then get into something solid. We only had the awning a short time, but we like it a great deal so far.

    I've got the awning that's got the flap down the front and there's a little hole in it. They were supposed to order me a new one for that but I haven't heard from the rep. I sent him a picture and he said he ordered one. Also, we were supposed to get a $100 gift certificate for my buddy that recommended me for it. But he has not received that yet, either. But we love the awning. I wish we had done it years ago. We're very well satisfied with it.

    I ordered a SunSetter awning on 6/19/2020. When it arrived I called SunSetter customer service to get it installed. The company recommended Elegant Awning and Shade Systems LLC, Belmont, NH. The awning was installed, but the cover was defective and I had to order a replacement. The installer said he would return to install the cover. The cover arrived, I called to have it installed and they have never called me back. I called customer service and they told me they could not help me with the installer, even though SunSetter recommended them. Then the awning ripped and I called customer service and they ordered a new one, but they would not help with the installation, but told me to call Angie’s List or Installs, Inc that I will have to pay for this. SunSetter did send me a coffee mug, I guess I can offer it to the new installer maybe he will put it towards the installation of the new awning. I will never recommend SunSetter for any of their products.

    I called SunSetter, got an appointment and the guy came out. It took about a month and a half or so to get the awning, which I understood because they gotta make it especially for you. The installer called me on a Monday then they were out on a Tuesday. It took them half a day, and it was done. We had it up on Father's Day and most of my family was here. It started raining late in the afternoon and we kept it up a good hour and a half into the rain. The rain got a little too heavy and we shut everything down then, but we stayed dry underneath it. There was a little mist coming through, but it wasn't bad. SunSetter has a more waterproof one which I did not get because I know that once it starts raining that hard, I'm not gonna be out there.

    There's also an awning that will hold up to stronger winds. If I was gonna do it again, I would spend the extra money to have the extra strong one put in so I can use it a little more often. If you have a sheltered area where there are trees and houses around you, it wouldn't make a difference, but I'm on the corner of a street, and right across at an angle from me out west is a big open cornfield. When the wind comes from the northwest, there’s nothing to block it. When it gets a little windy and I get a bit worried about losing the awning, I close our awning down. Otherwise, it works great and I love it. It was for my comfort ‘cause I’m home a lot. Being retired and being older, it comes in handy for me.

    The awning was out all the time. We couldn't turn it in. The man that put it up didn't tell us that we have to keep it wound back if it's gonna rain because if it gets wet and you wind it in then, it will mildew. But we like the awning.     We had an in-person meeting with a rep and that went well. The person that showed up knew the product well and explained everything to our satisfaction. He placed our order. I had a fairly long lead time for manufacturing but it was within the timeframe that the rep had told us. We had a little bit of a hiccup along the way with the installation. We were called on the date for the install and we were out of town. When asked when the next possible date would be, we were told they didn't know. We drove two and a half hours back from where we were to be here for a 9 o'clock install.

    Before we left at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, I called the person and left a voicemail asking if the installation was still on. I got no answer back so we left and came home. At 8:30 that night, I got a text saying, “Looks like it's going to rain tomorrow, so we're going to do a rain check and do it on Monday.” We had planned then to go back to the location where we were on Friday then come back for the install on Monday. The installers cooperated and put the job later in the day on Monday so we didn't have to be early in the day. That situation messed up some vacation plans that we had going on. But they were very prompt very friendly. They got things installed quickly and they explained the system. Overall, it was a very positive experience.

    The guy that put the awning in, Ryan, came in and did a hell of a job. He was conscientious of the surroundings, and everything was great.     We had somebody come out and give a quote. It seems like there might be a bit of a disconnect between the corporate manufacturer and the salespeople. We got brochures in the mail separate from what the salesperson gave us and I realized that he's just like a local reseller. There was definitely some disjointedness between what he had given us and what he was sharing, and then information that we received directly from SunSetter.

    Salesperson was also a little more pushy than we would like, but it was fine. I wasn't terribly impressed with the selection of colors and patterns though. We felt like there could be more options there. We didn't move forward with the awning. There are some other options out there now that are also compelling to us, but SunSetter is definitely worth looking into. It seems like a good product.

    I had a SunSetter installed and the salesman was great. I had to call a few times to find out when it was going to be scheduled. The crew was polite and they were clean. The quality of the awning is good. It comes out of the wall and goes back in like I want it to. It's lovely and I like it. It's just we buy the extras and we think it's going to work one way and it doesn't. I got a sensor and that doesn't work. It's not was worth the value. The wind kicked up a few times and the awning did not automatically retract. The rep said it would be a 10 inch difference and the wind would have to really kick up. I have forgotten the awning out there twice and I thought the auto retract would probably retract it maybe less than 10 inches. But I ended up having to go out and retract it. I called the salesman about that. Other than that, the experience was good and I would recommend SunSetter.

    The people at SunSetter were fantastic. They were efficient and any questions we had, they helped us out. So, we were very pleased with everything. Our experience was definitely easy all the way around. Two gentlemen came to do the installation. The measurements had been taken previously, so they already understood where they were gonna install. It went pretty fast and they complied with everything, so we were very happy. We’re enjoying the awning, especially here in Texas. It’s really hot.     My husband and I picked out a SunSetter awning together. We did a 16-foot laminated one. We chose that because of the water repellency and it was a better material for what we needed it for. The delivery went well. When we opened it up and started taking it out of the box, the part that has the scallops on it looked like it rubbed on something. It had a line about three inches long that had little holes. I called SunSetter right away and told them about it. Their rep was very nice and said that she would immediately get the part ordered and replace it. We have not received the replacement yet. That was the only thing that was wrong. That aside, everything was fine. We put up the awning ourselves and everything went well. So far, we're thrilled with it. We just haven’t had the chance to use it much yet because we're not done with the patio.

    I had a good experience with SunSetter overall. When I said that it didn't work, they came back and fixed it. I was a little bit disappointed that it was so small.     SunSetter was good. But one thing I didn't like was that they didn't communicate within seven weeks. I had to make the call to them to see what the process was. When you purchase something, you'd like to get some feedback throughout the process to see how it is going. The people that installed the awning were great guys. But they should take a little care. We just had a new $50,000 deck put in, and they gouged the floor and scratched the rail. So I had to call the deck company to see if they could replace or fix it. SunSetter should consider using cardboard or some type of protection before they start laying the material. It's hot to walk on the deck during hot temperatures. But with the umbrella extended, we were able to stand on the deck.

    When we called the SunSetter people, they said that they were gonna send a video and the awning was easy to put up yourselves. But we were not happy about that because we didn't wanna put it up ourselves. So we called Long Island Awning and they said that they worked with the SunSetter people. It took about four weeks to get the awning, which they said it would. Then they came out and installed the awning. It was done in a little bit of time. They were very good. They cleaned up the backyard and whatever they left. They were very professional, especially the people that installed and the guy, Eric, who runs the company. He was very nice.

    A week later, we heard this clicking sound. My husband and I called SunSetter yesterday. The girl in the office wanted us to take a video of it and she could hear the click. She told us that a lot of these awnings have clicking sounds. But how would she know? This may be a fall from the mechanism. She shouldn't have given us answers if she wasn't a technician. She also said that she would call back and check with her boss.

    We were told that they were going to call back yesterday. We waited all day yesterday but they haven't gotten back to us. I'm still waiting for them to get back to us and to have somebody come out here and take a look at it. It was an expensive item and the girl at the office should not have brushed me off like that. SunSetter has to improve on their staff. The awning itself is a nice product and it works well. It provides shade and it's attractive-looking.

    We met with the company that sold the SunSetter awning to us. Their guy had some installed at his home. He's currently local and he showed us how everything worked. He was really very thorough. We decided to go with an awning so the guy came out and measured everything. He told us it would probably be about 30 days. That's how they were running and that was fine. The installation was pretty much exactly 30 days and there were no delays. They scheduled a time to put the awning in. It was installed a week or so ago. Everything was good and we're very pleased.     We had a SunSetter at our previous house. We put it up 12 years ago and never had any problem with it. We moved and got a new awning. We were very pleased with the people that put it up. The timeline for the installation was between a month and six weeks. They told me that at the time that I signed up for it. The quality of the awning is fine but there was one thing that we weren't terribly happy with. We got the lights with it and they are put on just sticking to the bottom. The people that put up the awning just did what was in their packet as far as what they were supposed to do. This is the problem with SunSetter and not with the application. The lights came unstuck and it wasn't too thrilling to have those come peeling off during the hot weather. We used ties to hold the lights up in hopes that eventually the sticky part might stick.

    I was remodeling my home. I purchased an awning to just kind of give kind of a facelift on the house. I had interest in doing this for quite some time. I couldn't do it before because I was working, and now I'm recently retired. So, I decided to start remodeling my home this year. And I figured, well, let's work on the outside while it's summer out and everything, do the outside work. And then later on, I'll do the inside during the winter. I saw SunSetter's commercials and I enjoyed what I was looking at. Originally, I was going to get an awning for a deck except I have a basement door. When the guy came out, he said that there's a building code that the deck has to be six feet above the door, which means I couldn't build a deck the way it was. I built a deck going out.

    When I had the contractor come out, he explained to me and he also explained to me about the building code. That was one thing I didn't even think of. We decided to go a different way in which we did, and he did the contract. I also spoke to their office about the financing, and everything was adequate. They had to order the part. I placed the order back in April. They finally had the order come in in June. They wanted to make sure that all the pieces were in before they scheduled the installation. A part of it is because there's a lot of permit restrictions. I just followed up with them to make sure that they had the permits and everything before they came out because I have other different projects going on and I didn't want that to get held up.

    They came out Saturday. They were scheduled to come out between 12:30 and 4:30, except we had a downpour. I kind of thought that that was going to back up their schedule. What happened was I didn't get a call, and I didn't know if they were still coming out because it was 5 o'clock. I didn't get any status updates that they were still coming. I left a message with the office to have somebody call me, and I didn't hear back from anybody. So I called back my salesperson, Larry. I asked him if he could follow up on his end because I told him that I was scheduled to have an installation that day. I know because of the rain, things were backed up, but I didn't get a status update. Finally, he said, "Okay. Let me check on it. And I'll get back to you." About half an hour later, he called me back and told me that they were still coming out.

    They came out at 6 o'clock. By that time, it was sunny out. The two guys that came out were great. They checked out everything, and they did the installation. They explained to me how the awning works manually and with the remote control. They did a great job putting it up and explaining how it worked. Overall, the follow-up should have been better. Everything was proactive on my end. I didn't know what was going on, and I was at home between 12:30 and 4:00. I could have done other things on a Saturday afternoon instead of waiting. I was very disappointed that there was no follow-up if they were late or if they were coming. Other than that, everything else was good.

    The SunSetter team was very good and the group that we worked with was excellent and kept us informed. The guy even gave me his direct cell phone number and told me to text him and he would get somebody out right away, or if I had any questions. So it was nice that I had that immediate go-to person if I had any issues at all. I bought an awning that’s a higher-end model, which is retractable. It also has the screen in the front that we can drop down and the wind sensor.

    The guy who was in charge of the installation spent some real-time making sure that they had it lined up the way we wanted. We had one installed on our upper deck and one on our lower. So, he wanted to make sure that the upper one was directly in line with the lower one, and how we wanted. Once they started, they got right after it and got it done. Then, they showed us how to use it properly, so they did good. We use the awning any afternoon that we have sun and we also drop the front screen down once we get into the evening hours.     SunSetter took about three or four weeks from manufacturing the awning to the point of installation. Everything's taking too long right now because of COVID. The installers came when I wasn't home because we had other plans but they installed the awning and it was fine. The awning lowers the heat out there and it looks nice. I thought that I had done quite a bit of research but I realized I hadn't because I wish that I had known that I could have had a built-in front netting thing to stop the sun. You don't know sometimes until it's extended how much you need that front piece to keep the sun. The awning faces the sun and the reps could not have known exactly how much they needed either at the time. But now, they're trying to comply with it by making one at the company. Also, the side pieces, which we ordered afterwards, could come in other colors.

    It was pretty quick from the time of purchase to installation. We wanted it by Memorial Day and they were able to do that. They were supposed to be here at 7:00, and they got here at 6:55, knocking on the door. It was three guys and they did a very nice job with the installation. It was a little loud, drilling into the siding to attach it but it was a very good service. They did a very good job of explaining. I also like that I got to pick the color. We took the standard size and centered it over the back deck. The deck is small so the awning hangs over on either side, which we like. The SunSetter awning works really well. With the awning now, we can get patio furniture and use our back deck more often.

    The salesperson from SunSetter visited our neighbor’s house and we were already in the market to go with them. So, when they were there, we all listened together intently and doubled up on the questions. A couple of guys installed the awning and they were good. We had the deck cleared off for them and they eyeballed the job. We'd like it centered between the railings on the deck and the height as well, and they were right on to it. They were always one, two, three. There were no issues at all. The GFI outlet was already there, so it was straightforward. We also upgraded because we wanted that roll-down at the end of the awning so that when the sun gets low, it can't peek underneath. The guys were able to accommodate that. SunSetter is worth it and we're very happy with it. The quality is gonna hold up between 5 and 10 years.

    The sales representative, Ken, did a great job of explaining the features and options of the SunSetter awning. We were able to select easily what we decided upon. He went outside and helped to sort of lay down a measurement scale and see what we would choose in terms of sizes and what made sense for our space. I made a decision based on that. He was also available and I could contact him with questions afterwards. He was very prompt in responding to my questions on a quotation and so forth. The awning provides nice shade, especially during the middle of the day when it would be otherwise difficult to be out on the deck. It's nice to be able to sit out there on a chair at the table and even eat lunch during the day outside.

    The only trouble I had was reaching someone in the office. It was a little bit concerning because I would leave messages or they might leave a message. It was a little bit difficult to follow up with someone in the office when we were expecting to hear back about the arrival of the awning or right after we heard that the awning was in. There was not enough support to spend the time to follow up on calls same day after the sale. It can be confusing and frustrating in the after-sale process trying to get understanding of what's going to happen next.

    We bought a new house up here in Gardnerville in Nevada and we thought it would be the right thing to put an awning outside. We got ahold of SunSetter and a gentleman of Reno came out. We went through all the different options and we bought their awning. When I went online and looked at some of the reviews, it was said that there were problems with SunSetter's customer service. But the gentleman that I dealt with told me that I don't have to call customer service and to call him instead. He would take care of things. He was very helpful.

    He explained to us that we could buy the awning and install it ourselves. That would have been cheaper but I was not going to do that. The people that I was looking at on the internet had problems getting any satisfaction with customer service on their own. It's better to have somebody from SunSetter do the installation. The gentleman said that if something's wrong with the awning, I could call him.

    I got the Platinum Series awning and we love it. It's 18 feet long and the gentleman said that we shouldn't put it on the roof. It's really heavy. Our neighbor down the street bought an awning too. The gentleman installed it the same day as ours. I really like that our awning automatically closes when it gets over 25 miles an hour wind. We sit in the valley and there's a ranch behind us that's about 600 acres. We get some wind but I don't have to worry about it as the awning automatically closes.

    Our awning keeps the sun out and we can use the backyard more. We can go out on there and spend more time. Even in the wintertime, we go out and use it as long as it's not really windy out. That way, it makes our patio a lot bigger. Our awning is not the cheapest thing in the world but it's well worth it. We're probably going to buy another 12-foot awning.

    SunSetter contracts with private companies throughout the country. Ours was Bast Awning, and the owner of the company was great. He came out, measured, brought samples, and brought up the contract. The only negative was the length of time it took, but I've been dealing with a lot of products, and everything is taking longer than it used to before COVID.

    Our awning is electric, it extends out and there's a remote control. It's 15 feet wide and comes out 11 feet. It covers the patio off of my slider in the backyard. It's a nice-looking awning and it contracts nicely. I've showed my brother-in-law the SunSetter, and he thought it was nice as well (the remote control aspect of it and it also has the manual feature). I'm pleased with the purchase we made, and I would encourage people to talk to SunSetter.

    The one thing I wish I had looked at a little closer was the neighborhood. I wasn't as familiar with it when we moved in. It's very windy and there is a mechanism that if it gets too windy, the awning will go in on its own. The owner was very knowledgeable and explained when he did the overview with us that you wanna try to avoid that. You don't wanna keep the awning out. If the gusts of wind are too heavy, they can pull it off. If a big gust came out of the blue, it could trigger something. Most often, the safety feature would pull it in.

    We've been disappointed in the situation with SunSetter. We haven't even got it installed yet. First of all, it took us four weeks to even get somebody to call us back to let us know whether it was in or whether it was ready to be installed. We finally had to call somebody to find out what was going on but nobody knew what was going on. They didn't know if it was in, they didn't know even if it had been manufactured.

    My wife was talking to one of the ladies there and said, "If we don't get some satisfactory answer on this, we're just going to cancel the order. We already paid for the whole thing, and we'll just cancel the order and then contact our credit card company." The response we got from the ladies was, "Do what you got to do" and that was it.

    We finally got a call from Brian who was supposed to be the top dog there. He said, "Yes, it's in and it'll be installed on such and such a date." But then, he called us back again and said, "They sent the wrong hardware to install this, so we'll have to have it shipped to you overnight." I said, "That's fine. So, you'll get it in here then overnight and install it then tomorrow?" But then they told us that they couldn't install it the next day because they were too busy.

    Then we went on vacation and we just got back. We're still in the process of trying to set up a date for them to come out and install it. The installer was supposed to get ahold of us and we haven't heard anything from him yet. But we heard from Brian again and he said he's going to get it taken care of. But once again, we haven't heard anything. We were all excited about this but it's been one disappointment after another.     I've bought a SunSetter twice. Next to the one that I had, we had an electrical pipe coming up to the wall that we couldn't get by, so I had put up two. I bought one last year, and then I told them we’ll do another one next year. It was great both times. My salesman came out, the stuff came in, and he put it up with the guy working with him. In a couple of hours, the awning was up. There is a difference in the color of the two because one's been up a year. Originally, they look the same, but they get weathered. Still, I’m happy with them. It works great. It’s on my back patio and I use it every day. I was also told not to leave it up overnight, in case the wind picks up.

    The representative came out and he was very nice. I live in an active adult community, so I had to show them a piece of the awning that I was putting up. The representative gave me a little swab of it to put on the contract to give it to the HOA for them to see the pattern. He didn't give me an actual piece to keep for myself though. When the awning was brought here, it didn't look like the same one that I picked out. The pattern looked different. I called the owner and told him, and he said, "Mrs. **, that's the exact one." Also, he just said, "Mrs. **, you're gonna have to give the men the check. You can't hold those men up. They need that check to pay off." Now, I gave them $2,000 down and the balance was $1,400. They didn't act too friendly or compassionate at all. All he wanted was that check.

    I tried to get that pattern back from the HOA, and they said they got rid of it. My choices were very slim, then. I decided I would just keep what they installed since I didn't have anything to back up my word. The pattern was more a brick color red, while this one has stripes. It has a beige in it, and the brick color. That did not look like the part of the pattern that the man cut the little swab off at. The dealer should have left me a piece for myself and a piece to put on for the HOA. They could have said, "Mrs. **, this is your piece to keep. That when your delivery comes, you can match it and make sure you got the right one." They didn't do that. They're going to tell me, "Oh, Mrs. **, this is the one that you picked out." They may not have been right, but I can't prove it right now because I have no piece.

    I hope SunSetter stands behind their name and the quality of the awning. Where I bought the awning from, they said he's a SunSetter dealer and the name's supposed to be good. However, for what I paid, almost $4,000, I'm not that happy. I haven't heard from the dealer since the day they installed the awning. They could have been more concerned about my awning. I could've gotten a call back from the manager and said, "Mrs. **, how are things with your awning? How do you like your awning? I'm sorry that you don't have a piece to match it." They could have said, "Mrs. **, did you find the swab?" or "Let me send the man back out, your representative, and maybe you can look at it again and maybe it might come clear to you, seeing that you couldn't retrieve the swab that we gave you."

    I called a local guy here that installs SunSetter Awnings and talked to him about it. I bought the biggest one they had that SunSetter offered. It's made of good material and he was very knowledgeable about them. I would recommend them for sure. He came here and did an excellent job installing the awning. He had to mount it on top of the roof because I didn’t have enough clearance. We love our awning. We can put it out on our deck and feel the difference. It’s cooler underneath the awning than it is on the deck.

    We had SunSetter in our other house and they worked well. I even had the standalone. We moved and put a deck on the house. We bought an awning and went with SunSetter again. The SunSetter team took longer than they had said they would. With the pandemic, they kept having excuses. I called the company a couple of times. They had $2,200 of my money and I didn't appreciate being on hold. But they got it done eventually and that's fine. The awning works well. The awnings that we had before were over 25 years old and I can recommend them. They're expensive but you can't have everything. My neighbor up the street needs an awning for her deck.     They have a really nice salesperson. She was very helpful and good. She came the same day that I had called. So that was great service. Upfront she told me it would take about two and a half to three weeks to get the awning here and it was a little less than three weeks. They came when they said they would come. The installers were very nice too. It was one, two, three and they were done.

    The quality of the SunSetter Awning is very good. It's quiet. It works and it's very nice. It's a good option. We have a remote, which we use. There is also a crank if we needed it, if the power would be out. It also has a curtain rolled up in it that we can use a crank to bring it down if we want to. It's a nice perk. It was expensive but it was still cheaper than trying to put a roof on our deck.

    Everybody did great. When I called, they came out the very same day and measured. They showed me what they had and told me it’d be 4 to 6 weeks. It was 4 and a half weeks when they came. One Saturday night, my son went out to use the awning and was sitting there, and it wound itself back in because of the wind. I'm glad to see that that feature works good. They're not too cheap but they seem to be a good quality product.

    The only issue I've had was I also bought the LED lights and within 2 days, one of those was dangling down. They came back and reattached that. Within about 3 or 4 days after that, another one came down. Before they got back, the other ones came down. They said Sunsetter had changed ways that they attach those LED lights with this doubled-sided tape. Now, my LED lights have zip ties on them to hold them up. If Sunsetter does come up with an improved way of attaching those LED lights, I'd like to be put on a list to have mine looked at or if there's something else they decide to do. The zip ties aren't bothering me but it doesn't seem like a quality fix. But the people here that I worked with in Clear Lake were fantastic. I highly recommend Northland Glass who is who I went through.

One of them said, "If I were you, I'd go with the one with the push button instead of the one you pull out yourself." I took the man's advice and I'm glad I did. They also instructed me that if the wind starts going hard, to crank the awning in if I had it out because the wind would mess the awning up and tear it. They also told me to not leave it out open at night and always crank it in. I'm well pleased with the awning and I've had a lot of compliments on it.

    We called the gentleman, he came over and was very nice, and we ended up buying one, and we like it. The gentleman that came here was very informative. And then, whenever it was ready, there were other gentlemen that came and they put it up, and they were also very nice. My husband had a long conversation with one of them, but they were very personable and pleasant. Everything went smooth. There was a guy who is supposed to come out and hook up an electrical outside. And the guys came to put the awning up before the electrical guy came. It wasn't a big deal, but that was the only thing we had. And he came. He came in four days later, whenever we could set it up that we were here. It was all good.

    We got the motorized and we have lights on it too. It looks good quality. We've had a lot of good comments on it.     We got an awning three years ago and we wanted another one. They provide so much shade just like they say on TV and it keeps the heat out. It's cooler and you don't have to sit in the sun, eat out in the sun. I love both of them, but there was a mix-up in the color that SunSetter ordered and they blamed it on me. They ordered a new one for me. I have it sitting in my garage and it's the color that matches the original one. But I've called at least four times to let them know that I received the new one and nobody got back with me to replace it. So, I wasn't satisfied with that, but I love the awnings. So now, I have a beige one, and my original one was gray. It's in the box sitting there. They were supposed to come and change it, but they figured it would cost more for them to send two or three men out to change it. So, they never got back with me. And the owner over in Delaware was very upset with me. And then, her husband called me back.

    The first time, I was happy. But this time, they didn't like the idea. She said, "It was your fault. We ordered it from your receipt." I changed the color from beige to gray the first time. She could have sent me a revised sale slip saying that it was gray. So, they ordered the second one from my old receipt, which was the beige. That's what they installed. But then, I said, "Well, because of the inconvenience, can you give me a little break on it?" They slipped out and they didn't want to. And that's fine, but get back with me and say, "We're not going to do anything and we're just going to cancel the gray order." But now, I have three awnings, two are up on my house, one gray, one beige, and one in my garage. The awning is wonderful. It's just that it's a different color. I'll just keep it now. But they're not coming back to cover it.

    They had already ordered the second gray one and they figured, "Well, we'll just lose the money on that," because Kelly started me telling how this is gonna cost her an arm and a leg. And I was like, "Okay, do you really tell a customer that?" I cannot believe that nobody replied to me. And she sent me a text, "Let me know when it comes in. It should be in soon." I texted her on the day it came in, which was the 7th of May, and it took no time to get to me. But they sent me the replacement. So now, it's sitting in a box in my garage and nobody came out. I called them at least three times and sent her a text twice.

    I never had that kind of customer service ever in anything I've done. I've worked in customer service for years in utility. So, I know how it should be. Just call me and say, "Listen, we'll come and change it, but you're not going to get any discount." I was like, "Fine." And because of the mistake, they haven't taken the last $500 that we owed them. So, they said, "You can pay for 500 when we come back and replace it." I'm not sending them a check for 500 because they never responded.

    Also, they should close the communication loop, and do what they have to do. Because she said, "Well, I'll give you $100 off." Then, her husband called and said, "We're not in the business of giving a discount. This is expensive and it's going to cost us. My wife is really upset." And I was like, "Are you telling a customer that? You don't do that in business. And I was in business for 45 years, so please don't act like I'm stupid." He called me back, and that was my last call. But at that point, they were going to replace it.

    I could have gone anywhere. I could have called SunSetter myself or the 800 number or whatever. But I went back to Kelly because we were so satisfied with the first time and we love the awnings. They're beautiful. But this time, I'm disappointed. They came out in a timely manner, and put it up, but I wouldn't deal with them again because they made it very clear they were very dissatisfied with me or they didn't like the idea. I said, "Well, my sister-in-law would like to have an awning also." "Well, we're not doing New Jersey anymore." I was very surprised. I would not recommend them. Product, yes. Not recommend working through Awnings by Kelly.

    My good friend has a SunSetter and was very happy with it, so we went with the same fellow who installed it and that brand. The rep was very nice, helpful and reliable. It was done in a timely fashion too. The longest thing was just waiting for the product to come in, but once it was in, he had it up in no time. After we had it installed though, I saw all these ads for SunSetter. They're having all these promotions and you get money off and everything else. I don't think that was available when we got ours.     It was a very good experience with SunSetter. We called them and requested a certain week for them to come if possible. They contacted us by telephone and they came. The gentleman was very knowledgeable and helpful to us. The salesperson advised us what we needed and we went right along with it because we had decided what we were going to do in advance anyway. A couple showed up and installed the awning, They worked efficiently out here and they were very on the ball as far as the time element getting here. The awning that we got has a screen because it’s an additional shade and it’s on the west side of the house. It's retractable and it's got the cranberry worked into it with the beige.     We had SunSetter before at a different house. We moved last August and purchased another SunSetter. We worked with the same guy twice. The first time, we had a little problem. The second time, it was perfect. The installation process was the problem the first time. The electrical wires, all the photographs and the brochure didn't show any. Then when they came, all they did was leave them hanging all over the place. They said that’s the way they do it. I had an electrician come do it the correct way and the bill was $250. He paid it, but only after I wrote a letter to him that said I had sent a copy to SunSetter.

    The awning is top quality. But this time, we just had the electrician set up to do the wiring. We had the box already there underneath the soffit. The way they do it, if you have a plug down by the floor, they just run the wire right down the wall and plug it in. That was just ridiculous to have wires showing and hanging all over your deck. So we always have wires put inside the soffit with an electrical box, covered and directly wired, not plugged in. That’s the way it should be done when you have something that costs that much money.

    The sales rep did what he needed to do but he was new. He didn't seem to know a lot about everything but enough to sell it. Also, it was a little long to wait for the installation. But both guys did an excellent job. One guy was very knowledgeable and it was the other guy's first day so he learned on the job. The awning is a very good product and we're very happy with it. It works as advertised. We got the optional wind detector so it will automatically come in when the wind blows too hard. I asked, “Can you test it?” They said, “You don't really want to test it because that would be like moving it up and down a lot.” When it started to be a little windy, we realized the wind detector actually works.

    The cheesy part of the SunSetter is the way that they're attaching the LED lights with double-sided tape that literally fell off within three days. For the amount of money that we spent which is $6,000, the tie-wraps look cheesy. They had to come back a week later to tape and tie-wrap the LED lights. They put more tie-wraps on it. They even said, “This is new from SunSetter. It's not the way they used to attach the LED lights.”

    I got a 20x10 SunSetter Awning. Goes out 10 and it's 20 long. The only thing I gotta worry about is the wind. So, I'm wondering if SunSetter could put a line down from the part that goes all the way out, the steel part, the roller, and put a little hook on that, down to the deck on each end. That would take a lot of wind out of it or stable it. Other than that, I'm impressed by the remote control. Also, we've had the awning out and in a few times, and everything is good so far. I've raised it up to a few because I'm in a trailer park, and a lot of people come by and they wave and look. I've talked it up. I'm a longtime retired guy, and I sit out here on the deck a bit.     I had a good experience with SunSetter the first time but I can't say that for the second time. It's been a very bad experience. I ordered the awning way back in April. It was supposed to be shipped. They said it was shipped and it would be here May 23rd. The shipment came in and it wasn't there. They couldn't find it. They had to order another one. I'm going to call the guy tomorrow and tell him that if it's not installed by the 15th of this month, I'm canceling the order.     SunSetter came out for an estimate and we also had another company come out. We called SunSetter back and told them we wanted to go with them. It took four days before they got back and said they were gonna get things started. It took a lot longer than I was expecting to get everything going. It took the company a while to get back to us, which was a little disappointing. As a matter of fact, we had given up and said we'll just go buy a gazebo and set it up out on the patio somehow.

    About three weeks later, someone called. We decided we would get an estimate. If it was about the same price as a gazebo then we would do it. If not, we would just go another way. Things ended up working out. Overall, the people that were out were great. They answered all our questions, kept the house clean, and respected the yard and the house. We really like our awning. SunSetter seems to be a good company and I would recommend it.

    My sister has a SunSetter awning, so she was happy with it. So, I said, “I think I'll get one.” I got it from the same place as she did. She gave me the information. The customer services was very good. They were great when they came here. And they were great when they came to put it up. They took their time. They folded the pages of the booklet that they said I would need the most. And I did go in because I couldn't operate from the remote control. So, I went back to the book. And they knew that we were senior citizens. Because I said, “Listen now. I’m a senior citizen. So, you know, I might not grasp things.” And then they said, “Oh, no. You just call us. That’s the number. If the instructions are not clear, you just call.”

    However, we heard a big thump and we went outside, and the awning was broken. I called the rep to tell him. It wasn’t great how they put it up. But they came out today. It was raining a bit, but they said that if there’s trauma, it will go in by itself. But it never went in. So, it’s faulty. And then, my husband and I couldn't get the awning to shut down. It shut down all right. But it didn’t work. The tech had to roll back the top manually because the arm broke off. I don’t even know how it broke off because it was just raining lightly. And I couldn’t put it back in because the motorized thing didn't work. The gentleman was very nice. The faultiness was the machine itself because I couldn't put it back in. My sister also said it wasn't the same material that she had.

    I just want SunSetter to replace it. We had storms about right after they put the awning up. The awning wasn’t out then, but we had a bad windstorm. That was towards the end of March. I got this on March 25th. So, it might have been a couple of days later. We laughed because I went out there and said, “Oh, I know if I have my thing up, I would have to run out there and close it up.” But we had this bit of rain, and it broke. I thought that the rods were made out of metal of some sort, but it didn't hold up.

    I was looking for a replacement awning as the one I had could not be repaired. One vendor that I was dealing with said that SunSetter changed their design a lot since the last time I looked at them. He asked me to give them a look over to see if that would meet my needs. Everything went okay with the vendor I was dealing with. The only problem is the fabric we got from SunSetter. It had several defects in it. The installers noticed it and they contacted their people from SunSetter. They ordered a replacement awning. I'm waiting for them to come back with a new fabric and install it.

    I only used the awning a few times because of the weather. But I'm hoping to use it more as the summer goes along. Based on the times I used the awning, it seems to be doing the job it was intended for and I'm satisfied with that end of it. It was just the initial condition when I got the fabric like if it was a QC problem when it left SunSetter, if it wasn't inspected well enough, or if it was just something that was overlooked. Hopefully, with next set of fabric that gets put in, there won't be any issues with it and I'd be a little more satisfied with that. If there's anything I would change with SunSetter, it would be their fabric warranty. If given the option, I would like to see that extended a little more than what they currently offer.

    The installation of the awning was done very efficiently and it seems to be working correctly. While I like the quality of the product, $6,900 is a lot of money to put into an awning. Also, when we signed for the awning back in March, we were told four to seeks weeks. We got several weeks past that and we called. We were told that the awning is sitting in Chicago on the dock for the trucking company and that SunSetter can't get it from that place to the company in Gary Indiana where we purchased it from. The company had their own truck and they had to get permission from somebody to go get it along with 10 other awnings that were sitting there waiting.

    Nobody called us and told us there was a problem when somebody should have. Last week, I called SunSetter customer service. I was told there was no one above the customer service level with whom I could speak and the best they could do is leave a message for a supervisor to call me. However, no supervisor ever called. The next Monday, I was on the phone again for quite some time and it ended up with the same result. Fortunately, in a little while, someone did call me back. His name was Sean and he's out of the New York customer service office. He was very courteous and apologized and he said, “Do you have an installation date?” I said, “Yes, I do and it was for today.". Sean goes, “Okay. I will mark it down and I will keep track of this. And I will call you back after three o'clock on Friday, the 4th.” He has not called me back but there's still time.

    I had a friend that came over and we put the awning together. You read the directions and everything is pertinent. We knew that we had to find three studs. That was what the guy had told me ahead of time. So after we mounted those anchors on those studs, it was just putting it up and that was it.     We're very satisfied with our SunSetter awning. The installers were very good. It really worked great the way it is because it's at the end of the fence and there's nothing really there. The thing that helps us so much is that we have a sunroom. It's on the east side of the house and our SunSetter keeps that sun from coming in until the sun gets up over the house. So that's helped too. The only thing is, now we wish we got the bigger one. We really almost need a second one but they're kind of expensive, so we'll not probably do it.

    The vendor coordinated the electrician so that the electricians came. We had to have electricity brought to the side. They got that all done. When they walked away, everything was working. And they made sure I had everything going on my phone so I can run the awning from it. I love that I could do it with my phone. I also love that the awning cuts the temperature in our sunroom.     I purchased a 15-footer awning 15 years ago. I put it up myself. This year, I realized that the awning got pulled out of the house because of the high winds. At the same time, the fabric was discolored. It's been there for a long time. So after SunSetter kept sending me these specials so I can get this amount off, I called up and I told them I needed a new awning, and also, to re-fabric the old one as well. These guys that did the awning did a good job because they removed the siding and reinforced a 2x6 along there and they covered it back up with siding, so it doesn't pull out the wall that is previously done.

    I got a 20-footer. I also got to re-fabric my 18-footer. So almost the back of the house is covered with awning. I only got about 8 feet more left and I'm going to do something else there. They're covered in molding. They put the J molding over the door trim, which is the wrong way. It's supposed to go under the trim. The awning that they had to re-fabric was loose in the middle like the wind could take it up and run with it pretty fast. The guy told me after a while, it would tighten up. I knew that was **. But I allowed him to leave because they had been there for the whole day and I knew they were tired.

    I called SunSetter back the next day, took a picture of the J molding that was over the siding. I also lay a complaint out saying the one that they had to re-fabric, I needed it tightened up because it's loose in the middle. I also told them I needed some extra lights for the 15-foot as well. I called and made this complaint. I gave the receptionist my information. I got a message saying that they're going to try to make it on Wednesday. I was waiting for them to come out but they didn't come here. My only day-off options are Wednesdays and Sundays. They don't come on Sundays. So last two weeks now I've been waiting and nobody has come and nobody has called. I'm dissatisfied because it's a simple thing that can be easily taken care of and they still haven't done that.

As it is now, we spent all that money to buy an awning from SunSetter and the thing would come down. So I had to make several phone calls. Somebody finally told me that they’ll come tomorrow. But even if they said they'd call me tomorrow, they didn't tell me the time. That's for me to just wait and wait.

    The second thing is that the awning itself was wrinkled. When I purchased it, I didn't know the little valance was going to be so small. I don't like the look of it. When I called somebody, they didn't care. They were just an answering machine. I just wish somebody would look at the valance and sit with me and find out what's going on.

    We called in and SunSetter offered to have a sales rep come out to look at everything. He was fine, friendly, and answered our questions. We had a couple special requests and said that they could take care of it. We scheduled to have two awnings installed, and they promised it would be installed before Memorial weekend. We went ahead and agreed to move forward. About a week before Memorial, I realized we hadn't heard back from the installation company, Trim-A-Seal. So, we called them and questioned, then they said, "Oh, yeah, we can get you on the schedule."

    We got on the schedule for the Wednesday before Memorial Day. The crew showed up for the install, but they were late. I juggled my schedule to allow them to be there and met them. The first thing the install guy said was, "Well, I don't have the ladders or scaffolding on my truck to do your installation." I said, "So, what does that mean?" He said that, "Then we'll probably have to reschedule your installation." Realizing it's Wednesday before the weekend, I said, "Before Memorial Day?" He said "I can't make any promises like that." So, I said, "Well, I got availability through my business, ladders and scaffolding. Maybe I could just get one of my guys to bring it out, so you can get it installed."

    I had one of my employees deliver ladders and scaffolding to my home, so they could do their installation. A bit of time went by as they were getting things set up and the install guy then came to me and asked if I had a level. He said he worked on a project at his own home over the night and he forgot to put his level in this truck. Fortunately, I had a level he could borrow for my installation. Also, when the guys installed the light kit on the SunSetter, I questioned it because they were using cables zip ties to hold the lights to the arms. The guy said, "Well, the adhesive strips don't hold. We've had some of the lights fall off, so we now use cable ties to help hold the lights to the arm, so they don't fall off." That's fine, but that to me sounds like a quality issue, and this is their band-aid.

    Since we have the two awnings, I reminded the install guy that the salesman told me that they could program each remote to operate both awnings, so that way my wife could have a remote in the house that looks out on the porch or on the patio. When we have guests over and we're sitting outside, using the garage service door, we could open and close the awning if we're sitting outside (if we want more light, less light or to turn the lights on for the awnings). He instantly said, "Well, I don't think that can be done." I said, "Well, your salesman called someone in your office and said yes, it can be programmed." He said, "Okay." I left for a few hours and came back, and he told me about the programming. He said, "Well, I haven't heard from anybody in my office. I'm afraid to do it because I might screw things up. I'm sorry." I said, "Well, I'm just letting you know I'm not happy."

    I was told the units could be programmed together. That was one of the reasons I chose SunSetter then. This is partially a training opportunity for the company to teach their installers how to program remotes. I went online, figured out how to program the remotes, and ended up programming the remotes myself, so I could run the awnings the way I wanted to. I would have thought an installer that does these all the time would have had a good idea of that. At the same time, whether the salesman didn't communicate to the install crew needing additional scaffolding, it looked like a training opportunity as well.

    When the install guy went to leave, his credit card machine wouldn't process my card. I said, "Anyway, no problem. I'll call the next morning, and we'll get settled up." Because it was late when they got done, the office would have been closed. I tried two times the next day (on Thursday) to call and they had phone problems. I tried multiple times on Friday, calling their multiple phone numbers, and finally got through to someone. Said they were going to put me in contact with a manager because I wanted to share everything I just shared here.

    I got to talk to a manager, shared everything, and said, "Before I authorize this final payment, I would like a bit of consideration on my final balance based on had I not loaned the guys my tools and paid one of my employees to bring tools out and come back and pick up the tools, you guys wouldn't have been near as efficient. And you guys would have had to cancel and reschedule and still not be able to make good on the promise of before Memorial Day. So, I'd like a little bit consideration for the use of my tools." He said, "Well, what are you thinking?" I said, "Well, how about $300? We did two awnings. That's not even 2.5% of my total investment." He said, "Oh, I don't think my boss will approve that. How about we split the difference?" I said, "Well, if that's the best that can be done."

    The manager said, "So, I'll give you a credit of $100," and I said, "Splitting the difference between 300 and zero, in my numbers, is 150 at the least." In the school I grew up with, split the difference is halfway in between. I said, "Fine, you guys issue your $100 credit. Instead of me educating you and sharing with you as a training opportunity, it's what I really want to do. A little bit of consideration here." I was a little frustrated to say the least. He said, "Oh, let me transfer you to one of the gals that can process your payment." I was given one lady's name I was supposed to talk to, but another gal came on by a different name and said, "We processed your payment yesterday with the card that you had on file."

    By then, I was already upset, because I otherwise had a question, "Why did you process my card without my authorization?," but I didn't go there. I was already fuming over the 300 and 100. I said, "Well, am I going to get a credit for the $100 at the very least?" She goes, "Oh, yeah. I'll do another transaction for your credit." I said, "Mail me a receipt." I want to still have a relationship with SunSetter, but I felt a slap in the face. I told the install guy and even my salesman, once our above-ground swimming pool is gone, because the kids are getting older, my wife and I plan on adding one more awning right next to it.

    My fear now is that if I was honest in my review of what happened, then maybe they don't want to take care of me. If I ever have a problem with the SunSetter product, are they still gonna be willing to honor my warranty and guarantee? In a way, I'm thinking, maybe I shouldn't have put a review online for them because essentially, I used up every character I could to share online. Because I wasn't going to had I got a little bit of satisfaction, but I felt that the manager didn't even try. I wasn't asking for $1,000. It's like, "Hey, cover my guy's time, the use of my tools." I like the product, and I hope that if I have any problems, I can still reach out and contact SunSetter or that Trim-A-Seal and get it resolved.

    I have a friend who has a SunSetter. I asked them, and they said they were very pleased with it. I called and this gentleman came to my house and showed me lots of samples. The people who put it up were very nice. It was Wilson Awning. Thus far, I'm very pleased with my awning. I got the wind sensor too. I didn't realize that it would really work, but I have a dog and she doesn't like all the wind today. I also have a sunroom off of my deck and the awning will provide additional coolness to it because the sun will not be shining as brightly in there now. It's a good product. I've enjoyed having it so far.

    We called SunSetter and we didn't even think about another awning company. The reps who came out were very nice and helpful. Our automatic awning covers the back porch and it's comfortable. We have a little pusher thing that we push and then we also have a sensor that if the wind is too heavy, it will come back by itself. We really enjoy our awning.

    We live in Florida, so there's a lot of sun and a lot of heat and our HOA doesn’t allow roofed enclosures. We didn’t want to get involved in anything permanent, and have to get involved in building a whole room type of thing. We have an RV which has great awnings on it, and we use them a lot. So, we kind of like the concept of the awning. Also, the LED lighting is really important, too. SunSetter advertises a lot. I did look at some on Amazon, but I wanted a full-service place that would put it. I didn't want to get involved in a project or try to install them myself. I didn’t buy the awning direct from SunSetter. I bought it from a SunSetter dealer. I like that they had such a good installation, and had a lot of good referrals, businesses and homeowners that have purchased from them. I just looked a little bit around and then picked out a SunSetter.

    The whole thing was pretty easy. I contacted the dealer, he came out within a week and measured, and we just ordered it. We didn’t have to put any deposit. Then he said it would be installed in about two to three weeks. Two and a half weeks later, he called up and said, “Okay, it's in. We'll come out Monday and install it.” Everything was smooth. I've had a lot of people complimenting it. I’ve already recommended it to several neighbors. They were really good.

    We had one of the nicest awnings. It went all the way out. It was canvas and it had an electronic control where you bring it in. It had a wind sensor on it if the weather is bad. Unfortunately, it was out on the day that the bad storm came through and we didn’t get home in time for it to come in. We replaced the very same thing and got the top brand that SunSetter offers. We contacted SunSetter and they gave us the name of a distributor here that would install a new awning. The gentleman, Jonathan, came out and looked at the one that we had initially. It was not repairable. He gave us an estimate and once we made the deposit, it took three or four weeks to get it. Then as soon as he got it, he called us, said he had it and installed it right away. He’s wonderful. We appreciated it.

    The young man that came and installed it was very kind and accommodating. We're older and in the pandemic going on, he was very conscious of everything. It was a good experience and the product is wonderful. It's with the control and is nicer that it rolls up into its own little protective case when it’s up against the wall. We've enjoyed the awning because we have a lot of family gatherings. We have a huge back porch and it's nice to have it. We have a covered porch and we have it over to the side. When you have it out, it probably brings the temperature down 20 degrees under the covered porch.

    I wanted more shade. SunSetter was the only product I could find support for in Fort Lauderdale. I went on the internet, searched for awnings and came up with three different people. They all sold SunSetter Awnings, and two of them worked for the same company. I got a remote controlled electric awning. The installers came in the morning. I greeted them. We went to where we should go. When they were done, they called me and showed me how everything worked.

    So far, everything is okay. The only thing is the remote control is a nightmare to program on the operator side. It was the only thing that I asked the installers to come back a couple of days later to have it programmed. I tried to set and program it myself. I work in IT. I don’t know why it’s so hard to program that thing. I spent hours on the internet on watching Youtube and trying to follow the steps, but it was a nightmare. In my mind, it should be much easier to program a 3-button remote control that controls two different awnings. But otherwise, once it's programmed, it works very nicely. I can even use it from my phone. So once set up, it seems to be working good

    I had SunSetter for 25 years and I wanted to continue with their product. We did an upgrade and the experience was great. The awning I had was still perfectly good. But I had a new deck put on, and where that product had little screws that went into the deck, when they took that board off, I forgot to tell them to keep them and you couldn't get them anymore. So, I could no longer pull it completely out. Also, that motorized sounded pretty good. So, I went to the motorized awning. The original awning was put up by ourselves, but this one I had somebody else put it up and it took about eight weeks. I've used it a little bit and I'm pretty satisfied. There was a little click in it when it would retract. That bothered me, but the guy said that it wasn't a problem.

    I bought the house with the SunSetter awning on it a couple of years ago and we really liked it. But it was ripped off the house in a windstorm so we went with SunSetter again. But I was very dissatisfied with the experience this time. Their installer put the wrong screws in. They were 1 1/2" screws which were supposed to be 5" screws. We had another windstorm and it took the awning and ripped it out of the cement and was hanging on my house for two weeks. After calling them several times to come and get this half-hanging awning off my house, they finally came and did it. We had to upgrade to an awning that retracts in and they charged us a 600 and some dollar restocking fee on the piece of crap that ripped out of the cement. So I was not happy with them at all and I'd never use them again. I would never suggest using them.

    When I called to speak to the SunSetter customer service agents about a question that I had about the awning, they kept sending me emails about them placing my order and getting a rebate. So, I thought I was getting the rebate. I wanted a SunSetter Awning because of its brand and reputation. I also went online and looked at Costco and they had the awning that I wanted for 300 bucks. I called the agency that would install the SunSetter awning. When the guy who owned the agency came over, he was going through the whole thing and I told him that I already looked at the pricing from Costco and it was significantly less.

    I kept getting these emails from SunSetter and it said that I could get a rebate. So I thought I was getting the rebate. I called the guy and asked him if I would get the rebate from him or if from SunSetter directly. He called me back and he was furious. The guy said, "Are you just trying to pull a pass like that?" He was very nasty. I was really upset. SunSetter didn't help it. After that, they said, "Oh, if you order, you get a free grill." They offer all these things that you've already placed your order. They need to stop that.

    The guy's wife called me back and I wound up crying on the phone. I told her that she'd better talk to him 'cause he should never speak to a customer like that ever again. But he never called to apologize. Other than that, they came and put the awning in. It's a good product and I'm happy with it. But I was dissatisfied with the experience that I had only because of the owner of the agency. I would never ever recommend him again, ever.

    I coordinated getting an awning for my parents’ house. With COVID, they wanted to enjoy the backyard a little bit more and hoping that summer, when it gets warmer, they'll be able to do so. The installers who came were very pleasant and professional. We got the SunSetter in January and the weather hasn't been all that cooperative, so we haven't had a chance to use it all that well.     With the pandemic, we're spending more time at home on our deck than we have in the past. We looked up a vendor that sold awnings and we looked at what they had to offer, and SunSetter was what we chose. The rep was very helpful. The first day, when we called, he had somebody in the area so he had a couple of guys stop by, look at our deck, take some measurements and give us some initial information. We followed up and went to visit at the shop and saw some actual samples. They were extremely helpful.

    They did not try to upsell also. There were a couple things that we looked at and they were saying, “Realistically this isn't going to do that much for you.” So I felt like they really looked at what our needs were, what we were looking for, and did not try to run the price up just to be doing that. We got the awning late in the year so we've only used it a couple times because winter showed up. One of the reasons we got it is on our deck, we do get a lot of leaf fall and a lot of pollen. I'm looking forward to the summer and not having to go out and blow leaves every time we want to sit down and use the deck.

The experience with their team was excellent. They couldn't have done a better job. With the COVID, SunSetter was having a lot of problems getting materials because they couldn't produce them fast enough. But these guys were terrific. They kept in touch with me during the entire time I was waiting for them and they spent time with me beforehand. They showed me how to do the installation and they were professional.     We needed an awning for our back deck. It needed to be covered. We wanted to screen it in but it was a little bit too expensive. I've heard about SunSetter for years, and I had to call them. The representative that came out first, measured everything and told us what we would need. The only thing I didn’t like is nothing was listed as far as prices. It was just sitting off the top of his head, and I wasn’t like that. I like to have everything listed. Other than that, we like the unit and it does what it says that it’ll do because we've got a lot of fun on our back deck.

    The installation was wonderful. The rep that came out had told us that we needed to mount it on our roof. When they got here to install, they said it didn't need to go on the roof, and that saved us $300. I would recommend SunSetter Awnings, but I would also recommend that they give a list of everything. In the catalog, the rep has a list, to me, it’s kinda confusing when you don't know one material from the mix. If I had to do it over again, I would definitely want something that shows me a list of everything I'm being charged for including the warranty insurance.

    So far, I'm really not impressed with SunSetter Awnings. The guy who sold the awning to us should have done more. He came to our home and he showed me all their products and all the different conglomerations we can do. We took a day or so to think about things and then we called him back and made arrangements. We decided on a smaller awning so that it would fit in the space where we needed a bit of clearance of their product to extend.

    I had to call to find out when our awning would be delivered. Then, the seller called me back and said, "Oh, yeah, we'll deliver it next week," which was last week. And then, the seller showed up earlier than I expected them, so it was not as convenient. I didn't mind them coming early. But then, they couldn't install it because they said there wasn't enough framing in the area where they had to install it. They have to come back and do some framing so that they can install it some other time.

    The fella who sold me the awning should have known that. He should have checked that before the installers got there because it was an aggravation to them. They didn't say that and they were very nice. They knew their stuff and didn't want to put it in wrong. I spoke to the guy who sold it to us yesterday after the installer left and he said that one of the installers is a construction guy and that he can open up the sheathing and put the framing in so that we have studs for the awning to attach to. If I had realized this was going to happen, the guy who built our deck would have done that.

    SunSetter is doing their best to remedy things but I'm kind of unhappy with their preparation. The seller didn't prepare his installers. They didn't inconvenience us and my world isn't coming to an end because they have to come back. This is mostly irritation on my part. When I was working, I was expected to do the job right. If I didn't do it right, people suffered. The installers are trying to meet that standard.

    The salesman was great. He was very thorough and professional. We got one of the power ones that go out. It has the remote shut-off. We had it mounted on the roof. The house is gray, so we picked something that would go with the gray and the maroon shadows. We had planned on the installer doing it when we weren't here. So we were in Aruba when he did the installation. He contacted us immediately once he knew we were going to be back. Then when we came back, he came back and went over all the functions of it. We recommend SunSetter highly. It's definitely a high quality. You can buy cheaper ones and you get what you pay for.

    They were the nicest and I was more comfortable with them. The only thing I was upset about was it took forever to get the awning because they were out of stock. They were trying to come over here and put up another awning and then leave it up and take it down when mine came in. But I didn't want to bother them with all that nonsense. So I just waited. But it was well worth the wait. I'm very satisfied with it. It's absolutely beautiful. The rep answered all my calls and he tried to make me happy until mine came in.

    My porch is on the south side of my house and it gets really hot from the sun. I needed an awning and it was unable to come off the roof, so I decided on the Oasis. The reps were very nice. I loved them. The installers were really nice too. The awning pretty much covers the deck and the colors go well with my house. I have a neutral-colored house and I got a neutral color with the dark blue. A neighbor of mine wanted to see it and I had to show him everything about it and he was delighted.
