The SunSetter brand was popular in my development so I learned about them from other residents. I went over and looked at a couple, and my wife liked them. The pricing was fair. We called them and they were very prompt in coming out. As far as installation, they told us about whatever delays there were in the manufacturing process and we were fine with that. They came out to the house. There were three guys, and they put the awning up in less than two hours. The salesperson was there too. So far, it's working beautifully. I put it on an upstairs deck that got a tremendous amount of sun and heat during the afternoon hours. From our experience, this thing does very well with that. So we're now able to use the space for in the afternoon. I recommended it to a couple of neighbors. They have also purchased and had a SunSetter installed.

Right now, the SunSetter is not working so I'm not happy. I can't get the remote to work at all. They called me back and they said, “Did you do this and do that?” And I did all that. And they said, “I guess we'll have to come out for this faulty remote.” And they said they'd come out but they haven't come out yet. But the sales rep and the installation crew were fine.
Thank you for your recent purchase. We will reach out to your dealer to let them know you are still in need of assistance with your remote. You may also call our technical support line at 800-670-7071 to troubleshoot over the phone.

The purchase process with SunSetter was very straightforward and smooth. The man who came out explained who he was and his relationship to the company. He didn’t try to upgrade me or sell me anything I didn’t need. He seemed genuine and I appreciated that. I called at the end of October and the awning was done before Thanksgiving. The guy said they manufacture and make everything there and that’s fabulous.

I got a 16-foot awning from SunSetter and it goes out 10 feet and has a remote control. It took a couple of hours for the guy to install it and the quality is good. It's not the cheapest awning you're going to find but it's one of the best.

SunSetter did a nice job and the quality of the awning has been great. It looks like it's good and sturdy. I'm tickled to death with the whole thing. There were a lot of companies and there were buying a lot of products over the years but so far, SunSetter seems like a fine company.

When my husband talked to the rep and had him come out, we were really pleased with the presentation. Another rep double-checked the measurements for installation. It's tricky to go up under eaves and we had a patio door to contend with. They had to get the SunSetter in between the eaves and the patio door. We were very impressed with all their ideas as to how to do it and to make it work. And it worked.

We have been researching for an awning for years and reached out to the main number who gave us someone who never called us, although they may have had the wrong number. So, we called back SunSetter and said we would like another referral. I'm glad we missed the first one because we had an excellent experience with the second one. In this day and age, the awning came much faster than SunSetter quoted us. We purchased the motorized and we love it. We were concerned about the height of it and it trapping a lot of leaves, but those were not concerns. I wish there were more choices of fabric. Because the choices in the lower one, we couldn't apply to the upper one. We wanted the sun protection. We wanted the stripes, but we went with the solid because the color combinations were not what we were looking for. So we settled on that, but we're very happy with it. If you can afford it, go for it.

SunSetter's sales rep was good and knowledgeable. Installation was great. The only thing that I reported back to the company was the cover of the awning is really hard to get on. I did send them an email, but I hadn't heard back. They sent these safety strap things. It was like an act of God to even trying to figure that out. There's no video online. Two other people in our community had some installed the same week. We couldn't figure out the safety thing. We finally called the company and they said, "Oh, don't use those. It'll take you hours to get that on. Just get some bungee cords." That was what our neighbors have done too. We got bungee cords, so now we have this several thousand dollar huge awning with these bright green Menards bungee cords on them. For something that cost that much money, I thought they'd figure out a system for a cover with a zipper. Other than that, it's good quality.
We are happy to hear you are enjoying your SunSetter awning. Thank you for your purchase. Please make sure you do not use bungee cords with your cover. Please take a look at your owner's manual for how to install your awning cover correctly with the Breakaway Safety Clips Kit. You can also access this information on the Owner's Corner of our website http://ownerscorner.sunsetter.com/login.asp. We want you to safely enjoy your awning for years to come, so please remove the bungee cords and use the safety clips.

We've had a SunSetter for almost 18 years over our other place. We just bought this place and so we had to have one put up here, too. The installation was wonderful. It took about four hours, but the guys got it done nice and it’s works wonderfully. We’ve used it four times already. The guy that got the SunSetter for us was supposed to bring some cleaning stuff for us to clean the awning with, and they didn't bring it when they came to put it up. Other than that, the two SunSetters we’ve had have been wonderful and lasted like it’s supposed to.

We bought a SunSetter for our house 12 years ago. Our cottage got destroyed in a hurricane last year because a tree came down. That tree was what gave us shade. In August, we couldn't even step foot out onto the deck to get any shade. So, the family decided to get an awning based on the experience that we had with SunSetter. One sister didn't want to go with it because it's too much of a hassle. They don't have a SunSetter. Theirs was another brand where you got to lift poles and do this and do that. I convinced her though. With SunSetter, you just push a button and it opens.
Eric's Awnings did the installation. They were very good, knowledgeable and professional. The awning at the cottage is starting to get holes in it, so we decided to go with a different material down at the cottage. Hopefully, it holds up because it's right on the water. I'm afraid of the salty air. I did ask about if a beloved seagull flies over and decides to put a nice little deposit on it, the rep said, "No, it should clean up pretty good." He showed me how to clean it. We got the wind sensor with it, too.
Thank you for being a long time customer, we appreciate your business. We are sending you a SunSetter Magic Mug. The mug will arrive via Fed-Ex. Enjoy!

I can't stand the heat and I saw the commercial on TV that an awning would lower the temperature between 10 and 15 degrees. I would recommend SunSetter highly. I called their number and the guy I spoke to said he would be here and he was here when he said he would. I told him what I wanted and he measured it out. Everything worked out nice. The installers were beautiful. One was Paul and the other one was Tom. They were very cordial and nice young boys. They were in and out in no time. They were here when I got home from work. They had told me they would be here. They didn't need me to be home.

Our SunSetter Awning is working fine so far. It seems to have very good quality. The installers did a fine job. They had to come back once because the gutters were put on afterward and it was hitting the gutter. They came and they readjusted it and it's fine now. It's expensive though. But it's worth it. I use it to shade my family room. I use it every day and then I put a mat on the deck. I like to hang some clothes outside sometimes. Now, I can close it to hang the clothes and then open it back up again. It's much easier to do.

I liked the warranty that SunSetter has with their awnings so we went in that direction. We went through a local company in Colorado Springs to help because my husband didn't want to install it. And we ordered through them. But we ordered the awning in June and we finally got it maybe a month ago. It was an extended wait and I had to stay on top of it in order to make sure that we eventually got what we paid for. I think it's just the pandemic, though, and no one can control that. But it might have been easier to get more frequent status updates as to where things were. Outside of that, when I would call, they were very responsive and tried to get back to me, which was good. Also, the awning is really nice. We really like it.

SunSetter offered more products, more selection of color, and also service. The two men that came to do the installation were very efficient and timely. They came when they were supposed to. They did exactly what they were supposed to do. In about two hours, they were finished. Everything was well. I've got the one that has the stripe. It's light gray with a beige stripe down on it, has a filter on the end that you can crank out to block the sun. It automatically opens and closes by itself. It also has this device that closes it if the wind happens to pick up when you happen not to be around to close it, which is a great device. We just built a deck and it's a good-sized deck. We wanted to utilize the space. We get the sun in the morning and the awning took care of that problem. We have enjoyed it so far.

We've had a previous SunSetter on an older home and we had our second purchase recently. The experience was fantastic. It was done in several hours and it looks really good. Everything's operational. We really like the fabric. We got the premium model with the hood and powered. The only thing I don't like is the wire harness for the power and the module, how it has to be mounted separately on the wall up with the unit. The cables are extremely long and there's really no means of securing that, so I had to come up with my own way of making that look good. All the installers could do is just roll the wire up.
It'd be nice if there was a secure tab or wire ties that could hold the wire up and out of the way, which is what I did. I used sticky-back automotive tape and got the cable up and out of the way, and it's all tucked out of the way so that no one can see it. But the module where everything plugs in for the power and the LED lights, has to be mounted separately with the termination points. It looks a little off. It'd be nice if that could be incorporated or hidden somewhere on the unit instead of being mounted separately on the wall. The price was also a little on the high side. But we got a quality unit and hopefully, it will last for years.

Our SunSetter is a retractable one that goes over my deck and it has the lights to go with it. But I'm not happy with the people that I purchased it from, the dealer I dealt with in Canton. My sister and I bought it on the same day. We spent over $8,000 between the two of us. They came to install it and within days, the lights were coming down from it 'cause they used a double-sided tape to put them up.
I pushed them back up. They came down again. I pushed them back up and then the third time when they came down, I called the company that I purchased it from. She said she'd have to get back to me. She called me back two days later and said that they were very busy right now with stoves and fireplaces that they couldn't do anything until next season. There was no one that could come out to do whatever they need to do to fix these lights so they're not dangling. She said, "You could go to your local hardware store and get some double-sided tape or some tie bars." I said, "I just paid you over $4,000 and you want me to go to a hardware store to tie these up until you can come out next spring? I better be first on your list coming spring." Now we have them taped up so they won't dangle for the winter. I was furious. But I'm happy with the quality of the awning. I love it. I just don't like the way the lights had been put up.

The existing awning in the house was damaged because of a storm. As part of the deal buying the house, I wanted it to be replaced and I upgraded to the SunSetter because I wanted the wind protection. I also wanted a particular fabric. The rep that I dealt with was Andre and he was not attentive. I kept trying to reach him and I couldn't. He wasn't always available. I ended up speaking with a girl in the office and she was very helpful.
When the order was put in, I had to work through the owner that was selling the house. He took some time to find out if the insurance company was going to cover it. The original fabric that I picked became out of stock by the time that the deal was being finalized. I was trying to get ahold of Andre so that he could help facilitate this but he said, “No. It's out of stock.” I tried to call him back to say, “Call me.” But he never called me back. I called the girl in the office and she kind of stayed. I ended up talking to her about three times. Finally, when the stock came in, she said, "I just want you to know I did get the fabric for you. We're switching it out." So she took care of the loose ends. If it wasn't for her, I don't think I'd have the same kind of response. So kudos to her.
I love SunSetter. But I wouldn't have bought it on my own because it's very expensive. It's $6,700. But I love the convenience of it. It's all automated. I have all sun in my backyard and it's over concrete. When the awning comes out, it's attached to my solarium and it really gives a wonderful oasis look, which I love. So I'm happy.

I had two companies come out and the salesman from SunSetter was a lot better at explaining the awning. At the time, they had a few deals that helped me make up my mind on it. They gave $500 off plus a free wind device that will close the awning up automatically by itself if it gets too windy. The people came out and measured for it. The gentleman said what the price would be. I asked how long it will take and he said about five weeks and that I'll get a call within five weeks to actually install it. He didn't ask any down which was surprising to me.
They called up and said they would be able to be out at a certain time. They came and installed it relatively quickly. The guy putting it up was very knowledgeable and explained everything about the awning, how to work it, and any problems we might have. He also said that if I have any problems, call the main office and they would take care of it. After I had the awning, I opened it one time and then, I waited about a week to open it again because it was really rainy out and it wouldn't work. I called to talk to customer service. They ran me through some things and we still couldn't get it to work.
I called the main office and talked to a gentleman named Matt who was the owner of Weather Armor. He sent out a guy to check it and we found out that the motor was shot. He ordered another motor and it was sent out via FedEx. Within several days, we received it and they came out and put it in. It opened up and ran fine. But then there was a power outage and it wouldn't work so they had to send somebody out again to reset it.
The last time the guys came, I told them that there seemed to be a problem when the awning closes. One of the arms doesn't close as far as it should. They adjusted that and reset it. So far, after that, it's been working okay. They've had to come out several times, but they were very nice on the phone. If I had a problem with it and call, they'll come out and fix it if there is one. I have been pretty happy about that. The quality of the product is good too. I just had the experience with a bad motor, but that could have happened to anybody.

Then, on Saturday, this guy came back and asked if the sales rep called me, and I said no. He looked through the instruction book and he called someplace for help, and he got ahold of some lady. She walked him through everything and they got it working one time, and then it wouldn't work again. The guy told the lady about it and the lady said to wait a while because we were running it in and out so much that the motor got warm. We let the motor cool down, and then it worked well. The only problem now is it's been so windy and the sun ain't shining. I haven't run it out since. But then it's a good awning. Go ahead and order it if you want it.

We like the quality of our awning. It's great. I would recommend it. We tried a different method in the area that we put the SunSetter in. We bought a kite-looking thing from Home Depot. I knew it wasn't gonna work, but I had to satisfy my wife and try it. We ended up bringing it back. I said, "We just gotta spend the money on this SunSetter." My wife wanted an awning to block the west sun. She called SunSetter and made an appointment to have somebody come out and take a measurement and go over it with us. We asked a sales rep directly if this was totally enclosed. He said, "Yup, you won't see anything when it's closed up." But it's not and that upsets us a little bit. We look out our window and see the arms hanging down and all the back of the underside. Around the front, they got six or eight-inch valance across the front that hangs out.
The installer is very nice and seems to be straight up and honest. He ran into some problems. He got it up there finally, and said it didn't work right, and they are replacing it. It's on order right now. Also on the underside of the awning, it was all frayed and that wasn't part of what he saw. This is what we saw later on. So, we're having issues. We waited seven weeks to get it, we got it, and now we had to reorder another one. What we have now does what we wanted it to. The other thing is the frame on it is like an off-white. We have a log home, and so we got this off-white framework staring at us. It'd be nice if they could offer like maybe a brown or beige and a white. Overall, I would recommend it.

I got a couple different estimates from three different companies, including SunSetter. The price and the look of SunSetter were better than the others. The sales visit was fine. The rep quickly gave me an estimate and it was fair. He said he could install it where I wanted it installed and all would be good. It’d just take six weeks to get it and then he'd install it. All of that was fine with me.
We did run into a little bit of a problem after installation. I was not home when the installation was completed and when I looked at the situation, I was really unhappy with the way the awning was placed on the back of my house. It was too low. I could see the cassette and sort of the guts of the mechanics. Outside, it blocked part of my kitchen window. It almost made it impossible to open my patio doors which swing out. So I was really disappointed.
I got the installer back on the phone, and he said, “Well, I really couldn't install it higher because there's that pipe there.” I said, “We had the discussion about the pipe,” which was a PVC drain that comes out of my attic through the stucco. It drips the water condensation from my air conditioning unit and I said, “We could change that. We could move it. We could cut it off and I'll deal with that.” He didn't seem to remember that part of the conversation. So he just installed it in a lower position, which looked wrong. It was not where it belonged.
Long story short, I mentioned to him that I would be calling SunSetter if he didn't want to come out and fix it. So he called me back and he said, “I'll be out on Wednesday and I will move it.” Then he came out and moved it two inches higher. It took him 20 minutes. He made it right. It looks great. I’m extremely pleased with the awning. I would consider putting it on my second house.

I've had my first SunSetter since early 2004. It was a manual. I had no trouble putting it up. That thing went through a hailstorm and there's a million holes through that thing. But I kept it up. Sometimes, if we knew the weather was getting extremely bad, my son and grandson would come put it up. Hurricane Sally, everybody was busy. I just left it and went to my son's house. Came back, half of it was ripped off the house. They insisted I get this one where I just have to push the button. If I get that with a push button, I don't have to call them. I can do it myself. SunSetter put it up, and when they put it all the way out, I had a 4.5 foot head clearance to come under. Everybody else is five eight or five ten and above. I enjoyed having it up there. I didn't have to stand and lock the door in the rain. I have a 10 by 30 open deck. So I just had a 12-foot awning, but it made such a difference out there under that thing.

When we were told that it would be seven to eight weeks, and we still hadn’t heard anybody after that time frame, it wasn't easy tracking down what the status was. But it's not that big a deal. The guy that showed us our options did a good job of letting us know what we could get. The installers also did a good job. It was a 20-foot unit. And they got it in through the garage out the back door and installed on on the side of the house with no major issues. We keep it open most of the day unless there’s high wind just to provide shade for the deck area. It also helps us to shield the sun from some of the windows in the house.

Shawn was great. He’s a local gentleman and he was on time. It was my mother's idea to get a SunSetter awning and when Shawn was coming out to tell us about it, my husband said, “Well, let's get one, too.” We sat down with my mom, picked the color, and he suggested the style of it. There were some challenges of the way her door opened and the way the sun came. In Nevada, the sun is really hot in the morning so she couldn't go outside. We picked hers then we came to our house and Shawn showed us the same thing. We also picked colors, the style and what he recommended.
My mom's awning is good, but we couldn't get that big of an awning, and we had to roll down the screen. The only challenging thing for her is it's hard for her to put that screen down to block the sun. However, what I like about it is it has the wind thing. We have a lot of wind in Nevada and we don't have to worry about it. When the wind blows, the awning kicks up and automatically rolls up, which is awesome. In the end though, we were the happiest ones that got it. Our house would really heat up because of the way the sun would come into our dining room window, but ever since we got that SunSetter, it's cooled things off for us. The quality is excellent, and we are enjoying ours much more than my mom is.
Although there were some disappointments with installation, I can't blame the company with it. My husband was thinking ahead more than the installer. We wanted to make sure that the cord wasn't going to dangle down on both locations and the timing gave us time to find an electrician to set up a way to plug in the outlet, so it wouldn't dangle and look cheap. That part was good. We could prepare ahead and the guy was helpful in helping us decide where we needed to put that outlet.

The installer was very nice and helpful. But the installation was a pain in the **. That was because the remote and motor failed. So, we went a little over three weeks until the awning was fully functional. The tech came out multiple times. The day he installed the awning, the issue was the remote so they sent the new one. It turned out that the installer had a spare one that was old and used. He tried it and it worked twice and then failed again.
So the installer called SunSetter again and talked to tech support. They said, “Well, it sounds like the motor.” So then they ordered that. A week and a half later, the remote came in so they brought that out to try it and it didn't work. Six days later, they were finally able to come out and install the motor. Now, everything is functioning properly.
The awning is nice to have. It was too bad that it took so long ‘cause it ended up being kind of late-season and the sun drops a little bit sooner in the sky. SunSetter could have done a better job of getting those parts out. For what you pay for, they should have overnighted those parts and it should have been taken care of the next day. It shouldn't have to take almost three weeks to get resolved. But we'll have it for next year.

I put it out on a sunny day just to give a little bit of shade to the back room because it's over a big sliding glass door, and it makes that room 10 degrees cooler by far.
The awning works great. I got the remote control. I push the button if I wanna stop it. I can just let it go all the way out. I'll push the button, and it goes all the way in. Also, it's got the wind thing. On a windy day, if it starts to bounce around a little bit, it closes itself. I'm extremely satisfied. I really like the awning. The only challenge I had was collecting of water. I have a short drop. It's a horizontal so it’s not a rain shed. I was just really surprised about it not being a rain shed at all. I haven't tried to adjust the angle to see if I can get a little bit of rain shed, but the first rain I had, it built up really fast. I was kind of in shock.
I have the auto retraction for the wind and the remote, and they are worth having. If I'm doing it, I’d do it all over again. I liked it that much, but the angle on those horizontal arms kind of left me something desired because I've had retractable camper awnings before and they shed water good because we can tip them down quite a bit since they were free-form. Also, SunSetter went really bad on the color selections this year. Typically, they have about 14 different colors. By the end of summer, the color selection was down to about five. I ordered mine way back in the spring when I could get a color that I wanted, so I don't have a complaint. It's just that if somebody is ordering now, they're going to be constrained. Other than that, I love the assembly and everything about the awning.

It was installed within three days after we were notified. So, we got fortunate with that with the way things are nowadays.
Our SunSetter awning is terrific. We really like it. We have noticed that on sunny days, few and far between, that we put the awning out, it saves the air conditioning running inside because it reduces the amount of heat coming in. I'm not happy with not being able to fix it. Some outsider had to fix it.
I've called on that and nobody has come. The tech who came because it wasn't closing right complained because he doesn't get paid for all the re-fixes that he has to do. And that's not my problem. I spent a lot of money on these awnings. I'm down in Mississippi and the installer said the light strips don't work because it's too hot. I shouldn't have been sold those. But, they were fixed easily by those little strips that you put it through and tighten and that holds things in place. The techs said they've had nothing but problems with these awnings. SunSetter did a good job with the installation. They came in a week sooner than I thought they would. The installers were quick and the work they did looks nice. They were very professional and did the job in a couple of hours. They explained to us the part that we had and the little things that we had to adjust a bit if we wanted to. The only thing is that we bought a lighter gray awning and we can feel the heat of the sun on it. That makes sense since it has black in it and you can feel the heat coming through. But other than that, it's fine.
There's one spot on it where it has a little worn area. I'm gonna have to keep an eye on that because if it gets worn, it would be in the material in the canvas. The awning was also more expensive than I thought it was going to be. It was $250 that they were supposed to take it off but they didn't because I ordered better quality material that was not included.

The rep was fine but the two workers didn't explain things thoroughly and they botched some things. I got the electric awning which also had the manual. With the manual, the hook would not fit into the key. Also, when the awning closed, it would make a banging sound. I said, "I can't have that." The two guys were like, "We don't know how to do it, but the owner does.” So, I had to reach out to the owner and she's like, "We're slammed. We'll come back in a week." I wasn't too happy about that. But she made things better. I recommend SunSetter and I'm happy with them. It's not inexpensive, but in the long run, it's worth it, especially if you're gonna sell your home.

It was a second business for him, and he seemed very uninterested and would never return my calls. The company, in general, was really good though. They were professional once we got past the sale part of it, and the team that came out to put up the awning was very thorough in showing us everything. I was happy with them. The product is great too. If I had to do it all over, I'd probably do it again, only because I'm so happy with the product. It is absolutely wonderful. The back of my house faces east and, in the morning, it's so bright and hot in my kitchen and family room that I just open up the awning. It cuts down on the heat in the house.

I decided to purchase a new one and the installation is a different time to what it used to be, so it wasn't too bad. When they called, they wouldn't be able to put the SunSetter in the garage 'til it was installed so I put a delay on it for a week. But then they called and said they really didn't have the awning and they had to trace it. It was very hot weather and by that time, the installer had a lot of jobs, so that moved me down the list a bit. But that was no problem. I have morning sun and afternoon sun on my patio so the SunSetter is really good. It makes a big difference on the temperature of the house. I've always enjoyed it and I recommend it.

The second team that came out were two younger men who happen to be brothers and they've worked for nothing but SunSetter since they were little. I was impressed with them. It was a family-run organization. The quality of the awning is good, and although it's a little overpriced, I'm enjoying it. I love it, and I'd tell people to definitely get one. From what I understand, you can clean them rather easy, but the point is that as time goes by, the exposed material would definitely fade. It won't look the same as the other material that’s rolled up that’s not being exposed. Other than that, I thought the awning would go nice in the particular area that we put it in and it did. So, I got the emerald. It has the white and the thin white, thin green, and a thin beige.

So, we got a telephone number for the representative and he was having medical concerns, but he had the owner get back to us and we were told that we had an order and it was going to be delivered the following day. Then, we had the delivery the next day. The installers were awesome and they came immediately at the time they said they were going to come. They did it in an hour. We got the motorized awning and I like it. But I didn't notice it when they first showed us that when you press the remote, it makes a large click sound like it's lifting and the fixture is releasing itself. So, it scared us a little bit, but we're used to it now.
Other than that, we thought the price was high and there was a little confusion in that too. I was not sure if we got the complete definition but they said we were going to have a cover and we opted out for the plastic cover that came with it. We opted for the more expensive cover for the winterized. But when they left, we told them that there was no cover on it and asked how do we cover it up for the winter. They said that was it and that we didn't need to cover it. So, we paid 450 extra for what we thought was the way it's opened in the summer. But in the winter, I'm not sure. We're going to have to experience it. I also have to go over and see my neighbors' to see if theirs is the same. But they didn't think they bought or paid extra money for the cover, so we're not sure about this.

We've had a SunSetter in a different location of the house for at least 12 years, and we love it. It works well, it's nice looking, and to me, it's very well made. I cover it every winter and it's fine. We just bought another awning six weeks ago. We have a outdoor furniture, and we use it for shade and for different little get-togethers and parties. The person we dealt with when we bought it was very nice and good. I even remarked how knowledgeable she was in our product, which is rare. Helped me an awful lot.

We have a SunSetter in our home, and I purchased one for my parents. It was a logical step thing to go with SunSetter because we are happy with it in their home. The installers came out and measured everything when they came. They said it would be approximately 50 days. It was less than 30 that they came back and there was no problem with the install. We're a little worried because it was a roof mounted install, but they were wonderful. Everything is good. My parents love the awning. They're not sitting directly in sun. We also bought them the drop-down shade that they absolutely love. They enjoy their front patio now.

When we bought the house originally, there was one of those hand-cranked awnings that you put on. I’m going to be retiring here in a few weeks. I still have strength but at the same time, it was too much of a hassle. The guy down the street had one that was remote- controlled and we liked it. We got one from SunSetter. The sales team and installation crew were really good. I like our SunSetter awning. I was not impressed with the old hand-crank one.

The man that came over was the same man that installed the SunSetter Awning with his sons. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and got along well with my dog, which is a Great Dane. So, that was not easy. He seemed very nice and confident. The day they came to do the work, it was done in a good amount of time and done well, and nothing was left. I don't think they could have done better. There really doesn't seem to be anything I dislike about the awning.

I enjoy my SunSetter awning very much. I would have done a little bit different than taking the 12 foot out because it goes out beyond the deck 2 feet. So consequently, you can't sit out there. Other than that, it's good. That was our mistake when we were talking because we weren't listening. The sales rep was great. He tried to explain it to us. He was very nice about it. As far as the installers, I couldn’t ask for better people. They were excellent.

The SunSetter team did a very good job. Quick and got it up in no time at all. I like the awning. I just wish I had gotten it a little bit bigger. But I thought what I ordered was about right, but it wasn’t. It's a little smaller for what I needed, but it's fine. It keeps the sun from coming in the kitchen door and that makes a big difference. I'm perfectly happy with it.

The lady that sold me my SunSetter, Donna, was very informative. She came out, measured, and told me all the different ins and outs of it. She was very good, and I liked her. The awning took a while to be manufactured, but other than that, my experience was very good. There were four installers and they knew what they were doing. They got it up and running and made sure I understood it all before they left. They didn't leave a mess of any kind, which is always a plus. I like my awning. When you can't use your deck when it's a nice day, it makes you a little antsy. I have shade on my back deck now, which is wonderful.

I had a team from here in Beckley for the installation. They came in here at about 8 o'clock in the morning. I've got a 20-foot system and this big, long thing was laying on my front porch. They picked that thing up and brought it out here. At about 1 o'clock that afternoon, they handed me the papers and talked to me a little bit with it. The awning is doing well. I read a lot of the thing and I'm getting it better but I'm going to call one of SunSetter's people here pretty soon as I've got some questions.
My wife learned the hard way that when you leave it out in a bad rain and it fills up with water, and you open the door to that and push that button, then it starts coming forward. The tricky thing about it is it doesn't come stark out of the thing. It goes clear up to the top and it's almost like being in a big lake. But it's a tough thing. I walked out here one morning, and it didn’t have one big thing of water right in the middle. It had one on the left, one on the right, and one in the middle. At least it tried to go up 'cause we've got the system on it where when it rains, it will shut, and when it quits, it opens. It kinda got twisted into three pieces. But it didn’t hurt it and it works fine now. We've also got three cats, and we try to keep it up as long as we can because two of them likes to sleep out there. We’re tickled for it, laying out there in the deck, sitting in the deck. The air comes through the awning and it does give you 20 degrees less heat under it. We're very happy with it.

The sales guy was nice. The problem is SunSetter doesn't seem to sell this product direct or, at least, they want you to just order it online. The biggest thing that was an irritation for me was that the pricing that's advertised is not available for the product. It's more like a get you in the door, and then you pay 30% more to buy it. I also haven't been able to get the device installed and I don't have an install date. The people are nice. I just can't to get in touch with them. They call me and leave messages and I call them back then I hear back from them a week later. I don't have time to call them every day. From my understanding, the device is in their warehouse and they're waiting to come over, install it and get paid on it. I know other people that have a SunSetter, and the product speaks for itself. It's great. You just got to be educated on the pricing and figure out who can sell it at the pricing that's advertised if anybody can.

A neighbor had a SunSetter awning and I bought my daughter one six years ago, and it worked out all right for them. My neighbor's had his for 30 years. My daughter has had hers about six years. And I needed it. It has been proven that it works. The rep came out and they didn't have the color I wanted in the five-year warranty, but they had it in the 10-year warranty. After I already signed the contract, he said, “No problem. We'll put that one up and it will be a 10-year warranty instead of the five.” I said, “Hey, fantastic. That's great.” The two guys who came installed the awning within an hour. It didn't take up my time, even though I'm just hanging around watching. But they said they would be here at a certain time, they were.
The awning does drop the temperature 20 degrees. On my deck, I'm facing south, and it gets hot out there. That awning works. And it's efficient. You can take it in and take it out. And the wind was blowing the other day and I got the sensor on it, and I was gone, I came back, and the awning was in. That wind sensor works and it's a good thing to have there, too. I couldn't be more satisfied with it. So far, it has proven everything that I wanted and what SunSetter said it would be.
I just had it open now and it just rained. But I only had it half open, so I had to let it dry off before I roll it up. That's not a concern, but it's something that you should do. If you don't, it will mold. I know it will mold when it gets wet if you had it rolled up. Because my neighbor's is about 30 years and his is molding a bit on the front cover. I asked the guy then, too, because the neighbor asked me to ask SunSetter how much it would cost just to get the awning replaced. It's around $1,500. I said, “Well, that seems pretty high, but I'll tell him anyway.” When I told him, he said that he didn't think he paid for it that much when he bought it new. I said, “Well, 30 years ago, you probably didn't.” I'm very satisfied with it. But the price is high. And most people probably won't get it because of that price. That's the only negative thing. That's a lot of money to invest in something like that that most people aren't sure of. If it was a bit cheaper, I'm sure more people would get one.

The experience with the SunSetter sales team was very good and simple. The installers were very nice and they explained everything to me. The awning is great and I use it almost every day if I can, when it’s not raining. But the awning is very sensitive to the wind. The wind isn't very strong and it's not like I'm getting a thunderstorm but the thing rolls back by itself. The second day that I used it after the installers left, it kept rolling back on me. I don't know whether there is a setting on it. It was not windy enough that it would roll an awning back. The only other thing is that if I had to roll it back mechanically, it would take me a good 10 minutes, especially if it was windy and it didn't roll back by itself or the electric went out on it.

I'm not happy with them not getting back to me. Other than that, everything else is fine. The people have been very polite. When they were here installing, a drill was dropped on my deck, which is only a year old, and it took a little piece at the top of my deck.
