SunSetter Awnings is the largest American manufacturer of retractable patio, window and deck awnings. The company produces four different awning types, including motorized and manual hand-cranked models. Most of the awnings attach directly to a structure, but the company does have one freestanding model.     The SunSetter sales rep was very knowledgeable and good. The installers were also professional and did a good job. The only thing I've noticed when we're using it in the rain, it seems to puddle at the end. Then when I tracked it back in, it all just splashes down.     For the most part, my experience with SunSetter was fairly good. Everybody was nice. We had to have the awning material and the remote replaced. The lights weren't working. It didn't go easy, but it seems to be okay now. The installer was very nice. Brought somebody with him, but the wiring for the lights was left hanging. I was gonna have to get zip ties to neaten it up. But when they came out to replace the box that controlled the lights that weren't working properly, that gentleman said, “This is not right. This should be all neat. I'll fix it.” He did and he did a very good job of it.

    We looked into SunSetter Awnings, and we talked with someone on the phone. Sunsetter scheduled someone to come out. And we went through the process of what and how to do it. We decided that it was something we wanted to do. So, we contracted with them. The first time we had two awnings, because the way the deck was made, we had two. They were side by side. We couldn't get one that was big enough to stretch the whole length that we wanted plus one needed to come out further than the other. There were some differences in the way that the deck was designed. And we saw a color that we like. It was a stripe color and it was automatic. We had covers for it for the winter. And it was easy to manipulate.

    We had a little issue with the motor, but that was just wear and tear. We got that straightened out. But it started to get old. And the color with the sun and everything had faded it some. We redid the deck this year. We wanted to update it with a more vibrant color that fit more with the decor that we chose to do this past year. And we decided we did we only wanted a portion of the deck covered because of the changes we made. So, we just got one this last time. Depending on where the sun is and where we are or what we're doing out there, that's when we let the awning out. The sun's hot, but when you put it down, it makes a tremendous difference.

    The sales rep was concise. We went right through and were done within half an hour. For the installation, I had to call an electrician first and have an outdoor plug ready. Then two men came out and put the awning up. They also gave me a hand crank in case the electricity went out. I love the awning. I love pressing the button.     When I started researching SunSetter Awnings, they came up and there was a location close to me that they were able to send somebody out and take care of us. What I like is that the rep wasn't pushy. He just gave us the information and let us make the decision. He was friendly and knowledgeable. He had a book that showed all the different options and colors. He covered what was available. It was a good experience. After the installer was done, he visited with us on our deck and he was very friendly and interactive. We liked him.

    SunSetter had attachments so you could add a wall that slides on. We got that. When the sun starts to go down, the sun gets in under the awning. There's no getting around it. So, it's almost like hanging a sheet on one side of it to keep that sun out. But it attaches to the awning so we can put that up if we want to avoid the sun coming in. It seems like a good quality. The times we've used it, it was good.

    I wish I got that sensor that causes it to close up when the wind gets strong because we've noticed if the wind kicks up, the awning can blow. There's a remote that they gave us that we use and we just press the button and it closes it up. But there is a crank that comes with it if you ever have to crank it if there was a problem with the remote.

    The awning has made it more comfortable for me to sit outside on my deck. We were sitting on our deck in the evening, just relaxing, and we didn't have the sun in our eyes. It also helps to keep our house cooler because the sun beats in. It comes through the windows, it heats up the house, and we have to close their blinds, which I don't like to do because it darkens the house. So, this way, my blinds open, keeps some daylight coming in the house without heating it up too much.

    My house faces the west and where the kitchen is, it got hotter than heck when the sun was out. We decided to look at SunSetter. We had this guy out and he said they were from SunSetter. They come put in the awning and charged me. Everything was fine but when I had wind damage from the storm, a guy out of Windsor Heights came out and he said my awning was not a SunSetter. The guy that came initially was fired by him. The guy from Windsor said he won't give me crap and he replaced the whole thing including the railing. He did a good job and I was satisfied. He was fantastic. My awning has a remote control, wind sensor, and lights in it. It's a nice and beautiful awning. The only thing is, I'm not gonna enjoy my awning because I'll be moving next month. But in the home I'm moving into, there's already a SunSetter awning there.

    The way the sun sets, the awning doesn't do the total job. But it's good. The installation guy did a great job. He cleaned up after himself and blew the leaves off the patio. But the salesperson was very rude to me. After I signed the contract, I explained to him that I would be leaving in May and that he had to give me a notice so I could come back to Myrtle Beach for him to install the awning. He called me one day and was wanting to do it two days later. I told him I couldn't be there. I gave him a date that I could come and be there, and he blew up. He ended up hanging up on me. I ended up waiting till the end of the summer.

    I have a patio that has southern exposure and lots of sun. I needed shade and SunSetter looked like a good option based on my research. There's a local guy here that sells them out of his home. I went to his home and he showed me his SunSetter awning and let me play with it and convinced me that it was what I wanted and then had me order it. When it came in, he installed the awning and did a good job so I was quite pleased. I used it for a short period of time at the end of the summer and it seemed fine. It works well and it retracts and extends without any difficulty. They put LED lights on it so it has a pleasant atmosphere in the evening with the lights on.     We had a SunSetter awning in our prior house in New Jersey and on my rental home down here in Florida. Then, I called them again because I wanted two awnings at our main home here. One over the garage and one over my table under my birdcage. I wanted the one from the garage to go out into the driveway so when the car is outside, it's not under the sun. It's under the the awning which keeps the car cool. The guys from SunSetter came and measured. They came when they said they would, then they got the awnings up.

    But the one over the garage sunk a little bit and I had them come back three months later. The woman I talked to was giving me a hard time because she wanted to charge me $150 for them to come out but I told her that I've only had it for three months. And I didn't even put the awning out much because it was raining and we weren't in the pool. The awning is 19 feet wide and after a while, it sinks because it's heavy when they first put it in. So the guy has to come back and make it tighter. He also said that they're having trouble with a lot of the big awnings sinking. But once he comes and refixes it, it's fine. We shouldn't have to pay $150 for him to come out to do that though. Finally, the woman and I agreed that I would just tip them when they came to change the awning. Other than that, if it's too windy, that awning automatically retracts.

    As for the smaller one, it's12 foot wide and when it's windy, it automatically retracts, too. We have a pool area that's under a birdcage, so it's right over the glass sliding door and it goes out over the six-person table that we have outside. We use the awning all the time during the day and the sun is beating down. We use it when we sit out, read magazines at the table, and eat lunch. It's nice and it keeps the sun off of you. A lot of people would stop and ask about our awnings. They'd say getting them is a great idea and I'd tell them that it's SunSetter's.

    The sales representative from SunSetter was very knowledgeable and he brought samples so we could look at the material. Then, the two gentlemen who installed our awning did a very good job. They took the old one down and put the new one up within a couple of hours. We got a regular awning with a remote and we like it because it's an upgrade to the one we had before. The new awning also covers a larger area and they were able to angle it so it didn't hit my head when it came out. Our old awning was designed for a smaller deck, so when you walked out, the awning was there and you hit your head on the top of it when it came out.

    The sales rep sounded like he knew what was going on and was very helpful. We went in the back patio and talked about a few things. He gave suggestions. We looked at fabric and materials and that was how we decided. We were looking for something that could be rolled out. We have storms every once in a while and high winds and we wanted something that could handle that.

    The installation was quick. It was done very professionally and they looked like they had done this many times. The awning we got has electric motor, a remote, and the hand crank. The fabric seems very heavy-duty. I like the awning because I can also adjust the pitch of it. You can tilt the fabric down or up or straight. You could adjust how low you want it from the end. It's a rough mount. Waiting for the product to get here seemed a little long though. Also, we received a lot of emails from SunSetter, sometimes too many. This was after it was sold to us.

    I have two SunSetter awnings. One is in Colorado, and another is in Phoenix. The one in Colorado was perfect. It was the same person who sold it and installed it. In Phoenix, it was mounted on a beam, which we knew. There was a salesperson and then a different installer, and neither one of them mentioned that the screws that they were gonna put into the beam were a little bit longer than the thickness of the beam. The sales guy probably knew that but maybe he didn't bother to check. The installer came and he put it up. He made eight holes in the beam, so the wood splintered. Then he told me that and then left. We didn't see it until after he left. When we called him to mention it to him, he said, “Well, I showed your husband,” which was an out-and-out lie. He did not show my husband. Then he mentioned that the sales guy should have told us that the screws were longer.

    When I called the sales guy, he said, “Well, the installer should have mentioned it or something.” So, then the installer said he would pay me to have our painter come and kinda repair the spot. He never did. I sent him the $60 to come and repair the spot. There was really nothing. So, I emailed, I texted him and I said, “You said you were gonna pay me. Here’s what he charged.” I had never heard another word from him. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with the awning itself.

    I called SunSetter because the awning has to be tightened. They were supposed to send somebody but he never came. But the installers were good. There was no problem there. It was just because they had retracted the awning, I didn't realize that it was loose and should have been tightened up. I also like the awning.

    We bought a SunSetter for our home up in California about eight years ago. We've been very happy with it. Everything was good. Their guy did a good job and was responsive. He did what he said he was gonna do. Our SunSetter is multicolored with bands in it. It's 14 feet long and it’s extended. It also goes out automatically. I've enjoyed the product over the years so we bought one for our winter house down in Tucson. We put it here because we don't have much of a patio.

    Back in the late ‘90's, I had a SunSetter installed in my Colorado home and 15 years later when I moved out, there was some separation in the stitching on some of the canvas, But other than that, it was working the day it was installed. So, I felt that was incredible validation of their product and 15 years later, it's unlikely that they have gotten worse, so I didn't even bet and purchased from them again. I like the awning that I recently bought and what's even more important is that my homeowners association likes it. I'm also going to go and have another one put on. The awnings that cover a span of approximately 35 feet and the one that was put up is about 20 feet. So, I'm going to add another 15 feet to it sometime this year.

    I bought my first awning in 2004, and I never had any cover on the driveway. I had to get a second one, so I went back to SunSetter. They have good quality material. However, the people that were supposed to deliver had a truck and couldn't get up into my door. I had to go down there and pick it up, and they owe me something for that. These people weren't UPS. Somebody else took over the company, and it's lousy. The installation cost me a lot of money as well 'cause SunSetter doesn't have anybody up in my area that does the work.

    The way my house is set up, I use the awning in the summertime more than I do in the wintertime. Like now, the sun is sitting in the wrong place and my awning just covers enough area for me to sit on. The day's temperature right now is about 70 degrees, and I'm sitting outside in an awning. It ain't got nothing to do with the awning. I bought an 8-footer and that was too small. I bought this 10-footer, and it's working out perfect. The awning I selected this time is a different type of cloth compared to the original. It seems a little thicker than the other one, and so far, it looks good. I like it. I'm also thinking about ordering later on to see how this works before I order this wind sensor.

    The guys who installed the SunSetter awning were very helpful and cleaned up after themselves. During the installation, the installer told me that there's some kind of sensor that you can get that will automatically retract the awning if it senses winds over 20 miles an hour and the salesperson never mentioned that to me. That’s something I would be interested in. So, I called Shank Door after the installers left and they said the salesperson would call me back. He was busy. But I've never received a call back. The awning is expensive so we'll see, quality-wise, how it holds up.

    Their rep Carol was really nice. But they only have one style of awning and they didn't have the scalloped one anymore. The old SunSetter awning we had that was damaged was scalloped at the end. But that's fine and they had a lot of different colors so I picked what I liked. The installer was okay but he was young and he did not put the awning up the right way. There were screws missing. Also, the tech was turning one of the screws so tightly and my husband, who was sitting on the patio said, "He's going to strip that screw. Watch what happens." No sooner did my husband say that and all of a sudden, the whole thing snapped.

    My husband called them back and they said, "Okay, we'll come back and we'll fix it". We were waiting and waiting and waiting and they never came back. My husband is handy and he had screws that would fit the awning. So, he just put in his own screws and fixed it himself.

    SunSetter sent a boatload of information and they had all the discounts. I do a little due diligence also, and I found out that they make quality stuff. The SunSetter team that I worked with to get everything done was out of Ventura, and it was a little bit hard getting return phone calls at first, but we finally did get in touch with them. They contract out to an installer. He was a little bit of an odd duck also, but it all got done and he did certainly seem to know what he was doing. So, that was good. The awning has been fine. I ended up installing a sensor on it, and that turned out to be a big hassle but we got it done finally. The tech support was okay with that, and they were responsive. As far as it working, we haven't had any problems with it, so it's working okay. The only thing is it was expensive.

    I have a workshop in a barn and I have an area outside of the workshop where I sometimes use tools that produce a lot of sawdust. I had an episode this past summer where I was taking a medication that I was sensitive to sunlight and it was something I had never taken. The warning was there but so many times I was like, "Okay, one in a million." I was that one in a million and I had a pretty good severe skin reaction to that sun. I can work out here in the summer if I had some shade. I can also do that during the fall and spring depending on the weather. I looked into SunSetter and that turned out really well. I really like it.

    Everything was fine. Installers came right out and showed me materials. They explained how the awning would be put up and what it would be. They gave me some choices, materials, and colors. They gave me a bid and I accepted it. They said it'll be about four weeks for the product to show up. About four weeks later, they called and said, "We have the product and we'd like to come out tomorrow and the next day and put it up." They did it very quickly and efficiently. Everybody was very friendly and professional. Two of them even put up a couple of rollups that I had started to put up in the garage but I wasn't able to finish the job. They did that in 10 minutes. That was very nice of them to agree to do that. There was no hesitation at all about helping me out with that. They did it right the first time.

    Everything was great but the guy never offered me the awnings that come with LED lights. Only when he installed it was it mentioned that they come with LED lights. I asked why wasn't it offered and he didn't have anything to say to me. He said I didn’t ask but he was supposed to tell me that. Then he said he can install it but it’s gonna be another $700 and I didn't really like that. It should have been offered and it would have been factory-installed. Other than that, everything works fine.

    The SunSetter sales lady and the first installation team were very good. Somehow, when they got here to install it the first time, it was the wrong awning. We had it set up to get installed just before Labor Day. On Labor Day weekend, we were having an open house for my wife's birthday. They installed it and I said, “Now, wait a minute. This isn't the right thing.” So, they called back the installation team, and I had a very good experience with them. They were really friendly and really good guys to work with.

    They called back to the factory and they said, “Okay. Well, we're gonna have to take this down and return and put the proper one up.” I said, “Now, wait a minute. We've got it planned for a weekend gathering here.” So, they finally did give permission to the crew to be able to leave it up, which was very good because it was like three weeks before they got back. The second installation crew wasn't very friendly at all. It was like all business.

    We got a shade to the west that I could crank down and get additional shading later in the evening. What they did was they threw in an additional shade to the south at no charge to me but when the new one was delivered, I said, “Well, what about the shade to the south?” They said that was not written down on the paperwork so it was never ordered. So, the ordering process seemed to be something less than ideal.

    Tom was a great guy. His people did a wonderful job. He came and checked it himself a couple of times. The installation went well. But I have some major suggestions on installations. If you're going to run the electric down to the plug, I'd put that in some kind of plastic conduit to make it look neater. Even with your plastic connector above the awning, I would put that in a plastic container to protect it more and make it look better.

    With the electric lines running across the awning, I'd run them inside of the beam instead of strapping them to the beam. It’d just make it all look so much more professional. Because I went and did it myself, and now it looks ten times better. Otherwise, here you have this beautiful awning, and there's nothing worse than seeing electric lines. Above the awning is where all the connections are made and that ought to be put in a plastic cover, too, which I did myself. It would also help protect the connections better. I know they're supposed to be waterproof, but being in it, it'll even be more protected, especially when you're building these homes in hurricane zones. But the awning works nice. I really needed it on the back of my home.

It went so well that I ordered the awning and then I paid for everything right after our one-hour conversation. Then, the following day I needed to adjust something and it was no issue.     I paid $9K for a platinum 14 x 11'8" motive denim 4895 with wallmount, wind sensor, weather sensor and phone app. After 2 days, the phone app didn't work. Later, the rain sensor that was supposed to retract the awning, didn't work. When the sun came out, the awning didn't expand. The tiniest breeze caused the wind sensor to retract the awning. In short, nothing works as promised in the contract. I have complained to the main company and local company but all they do is send a link for me to troubleshoot these problems myself. No support, no guarantee of the product. The material is nice, the color is quite lovely - but getting it to operate is nil - as is the customer service.

    It's a nice awning. SunSetter is expensive, but they're worth it, especially for my wife and I because we're up in years now. The electric motor can be retracted or extended. But whenever they sell a SunSetter, they should check to make sure there's a plug-in to be able to plug it in. I had a 100-foot extension cord there and the installer picked it up and plugged in the awning there. That's very dangerous to have that extension cord with that on there. It's not very good. Either the person that sold the awning to me or the installer should have said something to me. So I had to have an electrician come out and put an extra plug-in there where the SunSetter thing could be plugged in closer.

    We have a screened-in porch with a side that was sunnier where I had outside furniture. It was too hot to sit. I wanted to check the SunSetter awning so I called and got a nice woman. The awning is fine. But it took forever to get it because of some snafu in the electronics of things. It was on a truck that it wasn't on. Initially, it showed to be in Manchester. It took two weeks for them to locate it somewhere else. And that was only through a phone call because a poor woman wanted to know how come in her truck was something that she didn't have paperwork for. It wasn't what I expected as a happy experience.

    The other thing is they didn't explain to somebody who doesn't realize you need to check and see exactly where your sun is before you get one of these things. The location that you're putting the awning in for the sun has got a big impact on how it's gonna work to be productive for you. I spent $2,500 to purchase the awning and another $1,200 to have it installed. Basically, it's worthless. I get an hour of SunSetter shade. And because of the way the sun goes around the cottage and starts to set, the sun is pouring in on the angle on the side.

    I had to get the 8-foot one because of the location that it's in. I couldn't get anything any wider. But that wouldn't have done the trick. The location of where the sun is that when it comes around to the front of the cottage, it just goes right in. The seat that I wanna sit in is covered a little bit. But as it goes around to the side where the side is, where the arms are, that just pours right in all afternoon. I get zero benefits from the SunSetter.

    Next summer, what I can do is get some type of material. We have the New England Cloth Company that's really got everything known to man. I can get something very similar that I can attach to the scalloped-in that will drop the curtain down some way and that will give me some help. But as far as the right-hand side where the sun comes pouring in, I gotta get a little bit more creative. Maybe I could use the same material that wouldn't cut the wind. All in all, I love the awning. But they should be really clear about the location of the sun so the customer doesn't get stuck like I did.

    We had one of these SunSetter awnings in our old house. The other one was 11 feet. This one is 14 or 15 feet. We took the higher grade of material and bought the lights and wind sensor with it. It also has the motor with it and the remote. It's a good product, but it's way expensive. It's hard to budget something that you're only going to use five months at a year that's gonna hang on the outside of your house. Based on from when we bought the last one to when we bought this one, the price has jumped significantly. And because of that, we were against the wall whether or not we would go ahead with it. We paid 3,800 for the last one we bought. And granted, this was three feet longer. I couldn't see three feet jumping the price by almost 4,000. But we paid over $7,000 for this. Our son was looking at doing something similar until he found out what we paid for this thing and he went with lawn umbrellas.

    The reps were good, even the people from the office. They relocated, but we used the same outfit that did it the last time and they were timely. There was a problem when the awning was delivered. It was a wind sensor wasn't with it and the technician didn't realize that until he got to the house. But they came back immediately the next day and attached it. They were very nice people to deal with.

I went with SunSetter because of the quality and the fact that there were the Sunbrella materials. I really like the color choices. The only thing that was negative was that when it arrived, there was some kind of scuffs, almost like dents, in the piece that holds the awning. But the installer came back, and he did some kind of a repair to it. So, it was fine. I like the wind guard feature where it just pops back because we live in a windy place.     SunSetter is widely known and I liked their reputation as well as the look of their products. One gentleman did the presentation and that was decent. He seem to know what he was saying and was quite transparent. The awning I got is not electric and we have to do everything to open or close it. We started using it in the summer, mostly in the afternoon or morning. It provides shade and protection from light rain. But it has limitations and I wish it was a little sturdier and more reliable in most weathers. In bad weather such as windy and rainy weather, it doesn't come very handy. That part is a downer. We have to watch out for the weather and I wish it wasn't the case. This awning cost me almost 8,000 and it is not worth it. Look for other choices if you have any.

    A salesman came out and he was great. But he oversold and underdelivered. The product itself is great and 100%. Things broke down when it came to the installer, the crew, the owner of the company, and the communication. We didn't have a normal installation where we weren't putting the awning seven feet off the ground. We were putting it 13 feet off the ground because of the way our windows are in our back. We have an outdoor kitchen. The salesman said that was not a problem and that they could install that. But then the owner of the company called me to try to talk me out of putting it up high and I told him that was where we wanted it.

    When the installer showed up, he was badgering my wife about changing the installation down low and she said, "No." He couldn't finish the installation that particular visit because the installer was not equipped to do a job of that height when they all had photos and everything of knowing exactly what the customer wanted from the beginning.

    When I came home, I took photos of ladders touching the house, tools on my granite and my coolers. You don't do that. You stay neat and organized and you don't use somebody else's countertops for your tools. I didn't say much because, at that point, I just wanted it to be done. That aside, the end product was still a positive experience. Ultimately, I'm happy with getting the awning. We love it and it's what we were looking for. We're happy with it. We'll be a repeat customer for future houses.

    I got three awnings. One was the wrong size, so they had to take them back out and redo them. When they finally came back, they brought one back and it still was the wrong shade or covering. They're supposed to come back in a week or two to replace it and I haven't heard from them. Also, I didn't know that the awnings were for the sun. I thought it was for the rain also. But after they installed them, the installer said, "When it's raining, you really shouldn't have them out either." So I was a little upset about that, but too late.

    We love SunSetter. We've wanted to do it for years and we're glad we did do it. Keith did awesomely. He was very personable. He came and measured. We asked questions and he gave us good advice. When the awning came in, he had two helpers and they had it up and in. They swept off the deck of any wood shavings after they were finished. The dirt was very minuscule. They've been awesome.

    As far as the awning, I like the shade it gives us. The only thing that is kind of scary is we have to make sure we have it rolled in because we get wind gusts unpredictably. They can come up from anywhere. So, we're always nervous if we're leaving the house and we're not sure how long we'll be gone, so we just pull it in. Overall, it should give shade where you don't have any. It's awesome. I've recommended it to all our friends.

    Everything was good with SunSetter. The installation was good. The guy who installed it explained everything. We had a little issue because we couldn't remember what he told us exactly, and something came up, but he was able to tell us how to get back on the right channel to get it to open. Our SunSetter is doing what it's supposed to do. It's blocking the sun when it's hot, and we can use our deck a little more than we usually do in the summertime when it's about 90 degrees.     SunSetter turned out to produce a good product as I was told it was. But I was a little disconcerted with them getting about a $200 thing off. Nobody would honor the rest of it that I got in the mail offering me almost another $1,000 off because I had already placed my order. That was four days after I placed my order. But the awning has lived up to what it said it would so far. The people who put it in were fabulous. In my case, they were wonderful to work with. I absolutely love what the awning has done for my outdoor living and my general space on the patio. So I would do it again. The awning is too expensive. But this is my son's home, and I didn't want to put up something that might have to be replaced in five years. This came with an unconditional 10-year guarantee.     We've had a SunSetter awning since the 90s, and we were very happy with it. We replaced the fabric and repaired the spring ourselves at one time. But it worked very well. We liked it. We went right back to another one because we thought it was very good. The installer did good. The only thing I don't like is the cord that he put down, all he did was put a small nail in there and bend it over. They should have had a nice molded piece. They make the clips like that. It will stay, but I'm gonna get my own clips to put on there. Other than that, it did very well.

    The installers were good but when they left, there were sharp little pieces of aluminum left around. I mentioned this to the fella that we bought the awning from because it would have been dangerous for somebody to be out there in bare feet like that.     SunSetter responded right away and found somebody in my area. The sales rep contacted me right away and came out. He talked about what he could do and what I would like and he made it happen. Also, the installation went great. These guys knew what they were doing and they got it done. The only thing that really kind of bothered me about that is he said it would take two to five weeks to get there. It was right in the middle of summer so the five weeks is almost up. I called and asked if my awning is coming in and the rep said it was there. They didn’t call me to tell me and that kind of really irked me.     The price of SunSetter was decent. The installation was okay. They had to come back and fix something though. My siding is thicker than the spacer they used. One of the pieces of siding was too tight and it was popping off. So, they had to loosen it. They also had to come back and put on the LED lights. We think it looks cheap. It was installed using zip ties. When we're spending all this money on something, it should look nicer than that. But we like the fabric and the ease of use.

    The price of SunSetter that I was quoted was significantly lower than other prices that I've received. The experience was very good, but one thing didn't work out. The size isn't exactly what I was asking for. I ordered a 10x12 and they ended up giving me a 9x10. The thing that surprised me too was the material choice was a lighter material. While it blocks the sun, it doesn't block the heat at all. In fact, with the awning open, it's even hotter under there than without it. If there was some undercoating, that would be perfect. Because that way, we reflect that heat off.

I couldn't get any information on when the unit was gonna be arriving and when the unit was gonna be installed.     The awning is pretty heavy duty, so they're good. I got the motorized awnings and they seem to be working fine. The fellow that installed it is gonna come back out later this week and help me fine-tune some things and answer some questions and make some final adjustments. I had 15 footers installed and the second one ran into trouble getting it mounted up there. When they finally got that resolved, they forgot to change the pitch on that one. So we need to get them to match. Then I have questions about winterizing them so that they will be out of the weather underneath my eaves. So it's kind of a follow-up thing now that I've read the instructions.

    The mounting was a little difficult and by the time they got out of here, it was dinnertime. They were very busy, and it was hard for me to communicate with them. I finally got a callback that he was gonna come out and help me with this. So I'm satisfied with both the awnings themselves and the service I got. I'm very pleased with SunSetter. It worked out well. It provides a solution for me. I'd recommend them but they are expensive. But you get what you pay for.

    I'm totally disappointed with SunSetter. I have tried to make contact and I was not treated well. In fact, the fellow hung up on me when I described what the problem was, and I don't consider that to be professional. I had purchased an awning five years earlier and it had needed repair in-between times. Then, a storm flattened it onto the roof and broke through the bolts and did damage to the overhang. So, I let it go for about six months. Then, when I purchased a new awning for $7,000, I called back the company here in Redmond. They explained the situation that the guarantee for the first damaged awning can be considered. He looked at the dates, called me back, and said he would call back right away. I waited about four hours before he returned the call. Then, he said the guarantee is over. It's five and a half years old. I said, "No, If you add the date, subtract the new date, you get five years and 20 days."

    He hung up on me. The job wasn't finished either. The fellow who brought in the new awning to install had to reinforce the overhang. He said the first awning was not installed properly and did damage to the roof. There's still a hose that doesn't connect properly to the outlet. It needs a different connector and a cord needs to be attached to the house. He said he would be back and finish the job. He needed another person to come with him, and he never showed up. I didn't get a return call. I'm totally bummed out about the company.

    I'm not very happy with the awning because the guy that installed it is very bad. He's not cooperating with me at all. Some days, I need to adjust it back. He suggested that I put the attachment on one side. I asked him to come to remove that part or put another hook on the other side for me and he won't do it. He said it’s gonna cost me $225 for someone to do it. I’m very unsatisfied overall.

But I wasn't pleased with the salesperson. He sold me a 10 x 12 awning for $4,009. After that sale was made, I didn't see or hear from him.     I had an awning and it was quite small. It's only 10 x 12. When I moved into my condo, the Sunsetter was already on here and it seemed to be very reliable and good, so I stuck with them. I was also hoping that I could use the motor that I already had. I added another awning to my patio. I spend a lot of time out there, so I wanted to go further out and wider. I got an awning that's 12 x 14. It's a canvas one and it's beige with a thin stripe.

    My sales rep was okay but I could have used a little bit more information. The one I had was vinyl and he said this was a better material. I was pressured a little because he said he drove so far and if I could make my choice that day. I knew what product I wanted and I wanted to get done so we can enjoy it this summer. The only thing was I thought we had a local dealer. But when I called, they sent me somebody that was two and a half hours away. That aside, the installation was fine and quick. But I was not happy with the fact that the awning was not really tight. It seemed to have some wrinkles at the seam. When it's rolling up, it should go in closer. It sticks out from the house further than my other one did, which makes me nervous. This winter, I don't want it to build up with snow, and I'm not taking it down. That's my concern.

    I had somebody come back out. With this second guy, SunSetter could have sent me Mickey Mouse. All I heard from the guy was, “I know what I'm doing. I'm really good at this. I can do this. I can do that.” But I'm not sure that the awning was any different than it was before he came. I figured I'll just accept it the way it is because it has a five-year warranty. If this thing doesn’t hold up, that's on SunSetter. I'm in a condo association and a lot of people are interested and they wanted to see the awning. I already had a couple come over and look at it. It looks fine other than it has wrinkles.

    There's nobody else that has anything comparable to the Sunsetter awning. My experience with them was great, except it took forever to get the product.     My wife wanted a SunSetter awning so we called and ordered one. My experience in the beginning was terrible. Supposedly, they couldn't install the awning when they were supposed to. It was just excuses after excuses. They cancelled twice. Finally, I was told it was fine. The awning is in now.

    The awning has a thing on it that we bought extra and the awning is supposed to close in the wind. We're in Arizona and monsoon is the windiest time ever. We were standing out there and I videoed the wind and it was bad. The awning never shut so we finally shut it. I'm worried that if we have a storm and the awning was open, it probably would have been torn off. The salesman Chris is supposed to come and look at the awning. But I haven't heard from him in three weeks to a month.

    The three guys that came out and installed the awning were very nice. They had very good manners. They explained everything and cleaned everything up real good. I was real happy with all of that. The awning is installed but it's uneven. When it retracts, it slams, and then the arms pop back out. They took my wind sensor to put in to another customer's place and they were going to come back and put mine in. But I've been waiting over two weeks for the installer to come back to finish fixing it. I've never heard back from him.

    So far, our SunSetter awning is good. The installation just needs some adjustment. It's a roof-mounted unit and a little section of it is sitting right on the roof where it should not be. Water gets backed up when it rains pretty hard. I did mention it to the installer before they left. He didn't think it would be an issue. So, I've got to call them to have them come out and make an adjustment. As far as the product goes, I don't have any complaints. If you're not going to have a complete deck with a screened-in roof, the SunSetter awning is a good option for what it is.

    Everything was done perfectly fine and I’m very happy with the installation. Now, with the awning, it can rain hard and the water doesn’t touch the sliding door at all. Plus, it’s a lot cooler. I live in Florida and when you have the SunSetter awning rolled up, you can feel the heat. When it's rolled all the way out, it's 13 feet out and you don't feel any heat on the glass at all. They had some problem where the original installer called me, scheduled an appointment, and then passed away. They were super quick to scramble to get somebody to drive up from Tucson to install it for me. I told them that wasn't necessary. He passed away, I can be patient. But they did a really good job of covering that. The actual installation was early and they finished very quickly. Everything was clean and done properly. They did discover a tear in the awning when they installed it. They told me they would be contacting me in a few weeks to come out and replace the fabric, which they did.

    The sales agent knew everything about SunSetter. He said he's been doing this for quite a few years. I had no problems with him and everything went smoothly. We got the awning that was above the bottom one and two guys did the installation. They were efficient. They looked at the back of my house where I wanted it and set up everything. Both of them worked and they had it done in a little over an hour. The outlet was right there to plug it in. So, it worked good. I use the awning down in Florida when it's hot outside.     We selected the canvas cover for the awning and it was not in stock. We had already paid six weeks in the time that we signed the contract and paid for the awning. No one called us back and said that they didn't have the particular cover for the awning and that we either order something else or wait till the particular awning that we want comes in. The only reason we found out was we called SunSettter and asked what was going on. We were told four to six weeks, and we were at five weeks and we were anxious to get the awning put up.

    SunSetter's rep said that the actual canvas cover material was on backorder. We asked how long it was going to be and they said it was a month and a half and it was questionable when they were going to get it in. So, we selected a different canvas cover. It's just as nice so, it all worked out. But we were a little bit annoyed. Still, the awning is awesome and we love it. The guys who came to install did a great job. They were done in a few hours and we were very happy with the installation and the product.

They delivered the SunSetter but it sat out on my driveway for weeks with me trying to find someone to hang it up. Finally, somebody who does our pool found someone who would put it up.
