My AC broke. I did what they asked and been in review for 10 days. They asked for records on AC which I don't have and because I don't have any, they wont fix my ac. I have been on hold for 30 mins then get John who says "since you did not send in records we are not paying for this." WHAT!!! If I don't have any, how can I send them in. DON'T GO USE THIS COMPANY. I am done with them. I wont use them anymore. I would say run don't walk and if you live in the SOUTH, RUN. 48 hour after they get your pics, oh yes you must sent in pics or they wont do the work, so after they get them and it is in review they will go from there. I was told today it was in review, then I get a manager and he said no it is not in review and they wont pay for it. STAY AWAY. I have been put on hold and told 48 hours since last week. I will yell it from the top of the mountains to stay away from this company.

Select was asked to send a repairman for a washing Machine. The repairman showed up several days. Almost 2 weeks later Select stated that the part was still under warranty therefore they would not cover the part. However the washer was long out of warranty. After several phone calls and promises that a manager would call they stated that they would refund a portion of the repair because the unit was too old to fix. They said they would pay approximately $125.00 for the part and 43.89 for another broken part. I decided to replace the unit for $505.00. They sent a refund and release agreement that indicated it would be repaid in 10 days on 8/21. I forwarded the signed documents and proof of purchase on 8/22. It is now 9/15. No check from Select yet! More emails saying to send the same Documents.

It's an AC that sat on the roof for 30 years. So, yes my fault I should have read every line. They don't followup and let you know AND now, the coverage no longer exist in my area!!! Really?

I purchased a 2 year policy for $1260.00 ($52.50 a month) and paid in full. After 5 months of poor service, not returning calls, emails, etc I decided to cancel the policy. I was told that I would receive an email within 48 hours with the details of the refund. The email I received only stated that my policy was cancelled and would receive a refund within 30 days. There was no breakdown of the charges. I called again a week later and was told that I would receive an email within 48 hours with the details of the refund. The second email I received again only stated that my policy was cancelled and would receive a refund within 30 days.

I called today and was told that my refund was $771.00. They charged me for 6 months of coverage, instead of 5 months at $69.00 not $52.50, because I was given a 'promotional' price when I purchased the policy and because I was cancelling prior to the 2 year term, I was being charged the monthly rate of a full price policy, plus a $75.00 cancellation fee because they sent a technician, who did nothing but visually check the system and said I would need to have a leak test performed that I would have to pay for and then request reimbursement from SHW. This is a very shady company.

I signed up with Select in April, paying the full year cost upfront. In Sept. my oven went out and I called Select to have someone come to fix the problem. The customer service rep I spoke with seemed very helpful, and assured me he would find someone to come and repair the oven ASAP. Shortly after, I received an email that it had been assigned to a repair company. When I did not hear from them after the 48 hours noted, I was told I would need to wait an additional day as it was a holiday weekend. Understandable, I tried calling the repair company several times the next day, with no answer.

I called Select back asking them what was going on. They assigned the repair to another company. The repairman came out, assessed the problem and let me know that he needed to order the part and contact Select to make sure it would be covered. When I had not heard anything from Select for another 48 hours, I called AGAIN to find out what the status of the repair was. Then I was informed that I was to pay for the repair, and send them the invoice for reimbursement. The rep stated this is the way all repairs are handled and it is to "prevent fraud". I explained the reason I have a home warranty is I don't always have a few extra thousand dollars in case something breaks. I was then told that he understood, but this is just the way they do things and that it should have been explained to me when I purchased the warranty.

It was not explained to me in this way. I instead was told when I purchased the plan that, I pay the call out fee and they cover the rest as long as it is covered under the plan. The rep said he would find out what they could do for me and would call me right back. That was Friday. It is now Tuesday and I had not heard anything back from Select. When I called them, I was informed that the repair quote was "over the max allowed" and that if I get it repaired or replaced, they would give me $150. Not even covering half of what the cost to fix the oven is! I explained that to the rep and he said the cap for appliances is $150 per year and that is all he could offer me. I am beyond frustrated that I was scammed into this company, and I will be cancelling to get at least some of my money back from these scam artists and filing a complaint with the BBB.

Submitted a claim on my pool pump and was denied (but they still wanted to give me $100). Salt water pump had some corrosion on it and the contract has a statement that if anything has corrosion, they will not cover it. So I cancelled the policy and I was told by the sales rep it would take up to 30 days due to credit card refunds. The lease clearly states that they would refund prorated portion of my fees. I paid $1199 for 3-year policy and I had the policy cover me for 188 days. They should have refunded $936.96 but wouldn't/didn't - they ignored me until I contacted the BBB. Then and only then they refunded $515 and told the BBB they had already refunded the policy (they refunded it on day 34, I contacted BBB on day 31).

I disputed the amount they refunded and they told the BBB I had the policy for 8 months and they had to deduct service fees. They are a bunch of liars, beware! Poor customer service on the phone and lots of double talk is why I cancelled - ain't nobody got time for that. They showed their true colors after I cancelled by ignoring my calls and demand for a refund. On day 31 after cancelling, I called back to ask why they had not refunded my money yet. They told me to keep checking my credit card. I asked if someone could let me know why it had not been refunded and call me to let me know when it would be refunded and "Robert" responded with, "We don't do that." I contacted the BBB and after the BBB asked on my behalf, Select responded they had already refunded the customer. My only recourse now is to take them to small claims court to get the rest of my refund (they still owe me $421.96). Good to learn from your mistakes, better to learn from others. Mine cost me $684 and several frustrating hours dealing with these jokers... I am not done yet!

I am beyond angry right now. On May 11, I submitted a claim for my stove, because the oven was not heating to the proper temperatures. May 19 was the first visit from the repair person. When he left, he said he would order the part and be back in 5-7 days. Four weeks later, having heard nothing from anyone, I called the Repair Co., who put me on hold for more than 45 minutes before they disconnected the call.

July 1, I had the first discussion with anyone in the SHW claims department in response to another email I sent asking for the status of my claim. He told me it was not economically feasible to fix my range. No one from SHW told me anything until I asked repeatedly. On that call, he offered to pay $109 for my range because they said they would not pay for the repair. At no time was there any mention of paperwork needed in order for the check to be cut. July 7, I had heard nothing so sent another email and talked with a man, in SHW's claims department, who again agreed they would pay me, and I was told the payment would be received by me within 10-14 business days. At no point in this discussion either was a release mentioned to be signed before the check could be cut. I assumed it would be done in the timely manner he promised, and that same day, purchased the new range, which was subsequently installed July 12, 2014.

Aug. 6, I again called and was told I had not completed the paperwork! They emailed it to me. I completed and returned it the same day, being told the check would be sent to me in 10-14 days but to allow 21. Today, 21 days later, I called SHW again and it still has not been processed. They told me to call back after 21 business days. By then it will have been FOUR MONTHS since this debacle started! There is no communication from the company and clearly I've been hung out to dry by them!

I called and did bought the policy because of the pushy salesperson, but soon realized that they are not the right one as when I call the claim number, they put me on hold for 15 mins and they have a long list about why the item is not cover... And when I called back to cancel my policy, the salesperson first argued with me why I went ahead and got the policy if I wanted to cancel it and banged the phone down...

I called back again to cancel the policy and ask the operator to transfer me to a manager and he argued with about the reason I want to talk to a manger and never transfer the call, and when I asked to at least cancel my policy, he notify me that it has being already been cancelled... Even after 5 hrs, I have not received any notice of cancellation... Even on the website, I do not see a number or an email where I can give my feedback or review... I have never experience this kind of rude and horrible service... If they are giving so much of problem being a new customer then God knows what service I will receive when I will call with a claim... Not even worth a star... Very, very poor...

Warning warning, Scam. I've had Select Home Warranty for 6 months now. I have it on three separate properties, 2 rentals as well as my primary property. They offered me what I thought was a good deal 2 Free months and a reduced rate of $45 if I had any problems in my home. And what they don't tell you is you have to have the policy in effect for 4 months before the full policy kicks in and after that they will not fix your appliances. If it's too costly they will only give you part of the parts. I had a refrigerator only 2 and a half years old go bad and they're only offering me to fix part of it and not the whole thing.

This is a total scam and if I help one person not get ripped off it will be a good thing. The Sales is very convincing and they tell you they cover appliances in the contract but over and over again this is not the case. Again I have three properties I have called them out 3x. The first one I got a letter from the contractor stating they were never paid by Select and that I owed them the money. The second one now with the refrigerator they only paid part of the parts. And now the near new fridge they want to only pay 175.00 of parts... This is disgusting. This is no way to run a company. This is a total scam and rip off.

Purchased the 2-year plan, EVERYTHING was going to be covered. Whenever I made a claim, they paid partially, they always requested "service records" on anything I made a claim for. I paid $1799 in October 2013 for 2 years. The first claim I made, I got $150 payment, next claim $250, after that, it was such a hassle that I decided in April to cancel my membership. They never replied and said they would work it out. I sent them the requested pictures, service records, etc. for an air conditioner repair and never received a dime.

I cancelled my membership. They now claim they never got a chance to review everything before I cancelled. Another likely story. If this ends up as uncertain status, I will realize that any complaints on their company don't make the website. Well, I received a refund of $413 last month as my cancellation. So, it cost me $1400 for October through April for "service". They said once you cancel, you go to a monthly membership fee, not the reduced one. I will have to find that fine print in the contract (rather will let my attorney do it).

The first one went pretty good as far as getting somebody out and the problem taken care of. They had assigned the second one to two different contractors for plumbing and I had problems with both setting up an appointment time to come out the house. It took the third time in order to complete that claim. You can only submit a claim if you call them or you can email them and have them call you back. It would be an improvement if it could be done online.

During the 4th of July holiday I had a bad gas leak in my home. Could not get in contact with anyone but was on hold. Because I am disabled I had to go on and get leak repaired, gas company had to shut off gas to house. After the holiday finally got in contact with customer service and they said they would reimburse me to submit my bill. After three weeks of phone calls finally someone calls back after I say I will report to the BBB about the service. The customer service person was very rude. Every time I tried to speak he disconnected the call. He did this four times using the excuse that something was wrong with the phone.

After about 20min. of this he said he would give me $75 on a $600 bill. I asked to speak to a supervisor. He said he was the boss and there was no one over him, I had to deal with him. I told him this was no way to treat a customer. That in today's world good business show respect to their customers if they want to keep them. I again made the statement I was going to report them to the BBB. He said if I told anyone about the service I received that I would not even get the $75. This man does not need to be dealing with people. He is very rude. I have never been hung up on before. I was upset but if you listen to the recording of the call I never loss control no cursing. I looked online for warranty companies. We heard from a couple of them, and we ended up going with Select Home Warranty. We purchased the best plan that they had, which covers everything. They were okay. Our only problem was we’ve had a couple of incidents with Select Home Warranty where we had to pay more money out of pocket than we thought we should have. Usually, when you sit down with somebody about warranties, they’ll explain it to you. But in this particular case, it was done online and everything was faxed over, so it wasn’t really explained to us. We didn’t even go over all that.

It should be explained a little more in detail in the future to other customers. If you tell me it’s going to be $300, I don’t mind paying that $300. But when I’m supposed to pay $100 and then they say $300, there’s a problem with that. If you prepare me and tell me from the beginning what it is, I’m okay with it. But not with the extra money that was added to it. It was something that they told us after that. It was on the contract, but we never read it. As far as submitting the claim, the experience was okay. My interaction with the claims representative was all right. And I was impressed with the technician that came to service our appliance. He was very knowledgeable, courteous and really good.

I bought Select Home Warranty policy # ** on October 17, 2013 and filed my first claim to have a Dishwasher door fixed on July 8, 2014. At the time of filing the claim I been told that a contractor/mechanic will contact us with the 48 hours but we did not heard back from anyone for next 8 days. Within those 8 days I contacted the Warranty company at least 3 times but each time someone said the same thing that a mechanic will contact us soon. After 10 days of filing the claim a Mechanic called us and scheduled time to come over and look at the Dishwasher on Friday July 25, 2014. Mechanic came over, looked at the Dishwasher and said that it needs a small spring replaced but he needs to contact the Select Home Warranty to get the authorization. No work was done but he charged us $45 our deductible and left.

Yesterday evening (July 28, 2014) I got a call from Select Home Warranty and representative told us that the replacement of door spring is not covered but even then they will do me a favor and will reimburse me a small amount of the repairs. Please note that contract I signed had no indications about exceptions also. I have already spent $45 and now I am being told that my claim is not covered and I will have to spend more money to get that thing fixed. Last year I paid $400 for this policy. This was my first claim for a minor repair. I have already paid $45 (my deductible) and now I will be paying more to have those repairs done. This is rip off and should be stopped. We deserve the services without any additional charges.

I had a home warranty through American Home Warranty for the last year on my home and because of the expenses I had to find a warranty that was more affordable. Let me be clear, the American was exceptional in their service. I called a Select Home warranty rep and his pitch was awesome about the company. A month later I called to have my AC unit looked at and a part on the AC unit was bad ($150) part. In order to change the part the repairman will need to recharge the system with new freon. Even though he must recharge the system that is not covered and I have the PLATINUM plan. This seems very sneaky and unprofessional of something not spelled out when they are selling this policy. American Home would have never done that and covered everything to repair the defective part, especially if it was directly affected by the bad part.

Still dealing with this situation and not sure if the labor will be covered with the approach By Select. Another issue I have is with the deductible. I am having to pay the entire bill upfront then send the invoice to Select for the $150 they cover vs paying the deductible and having the repair company deal with reimbursement. Would love to hear feed back on this. I would never recommend Select Home Warranty to any homeowner. Pay the extra money and get quality service!

I contacted Select Home Warranty after having the policy in effect for about 3 months. The AC unit was not running, it was over 90 degrees in the home. We waited until the THIRD day and their contractor called and said they were 'not going to be able to make it over that day'. I contacted Select Home Warranty representative and was told that if we wanted to contact a service contractor in the area that they would reimburse us for the amount of the bill, less the $45 that we had to pay for the service fee. We contacted a reputable HVAC technician in the area and he was able to rearrange his schedule to be at the home the following morning (4th day). He drove to the location, 30 miles from his business address, was at the home for over 2 hours, identified the problem as a bad capacitor. He replaced the capacitor, which had most likely been struck by the lighting and storms going through the NC area the prior week and the unit was up and running. Our family that is in the home has an infant that was struggling with asthma and the heat was making her condition worse.

Select Home Warranty representatives were unaffected by the situation and simply stated that they would 'reimburse our costs because their representative was unable to make the service call within 48 hours'. Now they tell me that their 'labor for a capacitor replacement' is $90.00 This does not begin to cover the technicians time, mileage and efforts to bring the unit back to working condition. This unit is approximately 7 yrs old. Never had problems before, The 'fine print', according to the representative states that they will only pay for 1 hr labor/installation and that I should READ the contract. I did read the contract and it is so verbose that even as a finance manager and owner of several companies, I could not 'read between the lines' of the legalese to extract the exact meaning of their reimbursement clause. I only know what I was told, three times, by their representatives.."If you need to get a contractor to get the job done, since our contractor is not able to make the appointment on the third day, WE WILL reimburse your cost less $45.00 for the service call.

I purchased a two-year home warranty one year ago. I didn't file any claims until 11 days ago. My refrigerator stopped cooling, so I called and filed a claim. The representative that took my claim said someone would get back to me that day or the next day. Three days later still had not heard from anyone. So, I called back. The rep said they couldn't find any contractor in my area to service my refrigerator and that I had to hire my own contractor and pay the $80.00 service call as opposed to the $45 service call that I would pay if SHW found a contractor. So, I called Sears and they arrived the next day.

I was told to email SHW the estimate which totaled $989.00 due to compressor failure and that it would be sent to a review board. I emailed the estimate shortly after the the technician left and called to make sure they received it. The rep told me they got the estimate and that it was under review. I would get a call later that day or the next. I got a call from SHW the next requesting photos of my refrigerator which I emailed that day. It's now been six days and I haven't heard from anyone! They don't return calls, they do not acknowledge emails. I feel like these people have stolen $700 from me! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

We bought a home warranty since all major appliances in our home were at the end of their projected lifespan. Our hot water heater was making a racket and died a few short months after we moved in. We called Select and they had a local plumber out to look at it within a few days. I had to pay the copay of $45. The plumber said our system was old and it "died" and needed replaced. It sure sounded like it was dying, so I believe their diagnosis. The plumber was getting upset with me because he couldn't get in touch with Select Home Warranty. My husband tried too. They were on hold for over an HOUR. Of course the plumber hung up well before the hour mark. He has to make a living.

My husband said, "You bought a scam home warranty." I defended them... I had researched and at the time, they were getting good reviews. Once we FINALLY got to speak with someone, Select Home Warranty said the plumber told them our tank ruptured. I am not a plumber, but I would expect to see lots of water if a hot water tank ruptures. That was entirely not true. I called the plumber and spoke to the owner and he again confirmed that they did not report a ruptured tank to Select. So who was telling the truth? My money is on the plumber. Select Home Warranty's platinum policy clearly states it covers "Water heater". But my friends, the fine print says, "This Agreement covers all modules, components and parts of the water heater system necessary to the functionality of the water heater system." So far so good....

Then it has a disclaimer under that that says: This agreement does NOT cover solar water heating systems or the components thereof. This agreement does NOT cover the following lists of modules, components and parts relating to the water heating system: i) holding tanks; ii) flues; iii) drain piping; iv) pressure reducing valve; v) leaks. My fault for not reading the fine print. I accept that fault. BUT, our tank did not rupture. The supervisor from Select Home Warranty argued with me and said they would "give me 20% of the value ($500) which would amount to $100, but he would send it onto the Review Team, who's usually more than generous."

It's now been 3 months. I haven't received SQUAT. I call weekly and get comments like, "Someone will call you tomorrow," or "I see it's gone on to the Review Team, let me check into that and give you a call back." Just yesterday, I called and they asked if I ever filled out a "Reimbursement Form?" No.... that's the first I've heard of that.... Ok, we'll email that to you right now... No email until this morning. I have the form and it is VERY legal sounding and waives me of all lawsuits... hmmmmmm.

It took almost a week before we had someone come to look at it. The technician said it was a fan motor and he would order a replacement. We are still waiting and the owner has made us submit our proof of normal maintenance which we have sent to him three times. Then he has the nerve to call and say he would pay $125 toward this bill. This is not what our contract says. We pay a $45 co-pay and the company pays the repair bill.

We purchased a 2-year policy in good faith. We read through the terms and conditions (when they sent it - after they had their money) and didn't see any issues we felt we needed to be concerned with. Six weeks into the policy our motor for the a/c (in the central system) started making a terrible racket and smelling like something was burning (June 21, 2014). We followed the rules and shut it off to keep from causing further damage. We called Select's claims department and filed a claim. We were asked how old our home was (no bearing on the age of the unit at all), then asked if it was completely broke down. We said it was not and the representative said they would not cover it if it still worked. We said we could turn it back on and take a chance of burning our house down. He said that he would submit a claim but that they wouldn't be able to contact anyone until the following Monday.

So we went through the rest of the weekend with temperatures in the high 80s. To cut to the chase, after waiting until last Thursday to have someone come and check out the system, we were told yesterday (Monday, June 30) that they needed pictures before the "review board" would make a decision. My wife left work, came home and took pictures, uploaded them to the company and called. For the 4th time, we were asked for the age of the home. Then, because we were unable to produce maintenance records for the past 10 years (we just purchased the home in February 2013 - an estate sale) they said that they reserve the right to only pay $125 toward the repair.

Our home is nice. We know this home has been well maintained (as a certified building inspector verified prior to our purchasing the home). Now, Select Home Warranty is ready to cancel our policy if we wish - but they say that we have to pay a $75 cancellation fee and that the remainder of our contract will be prorated at the higher annual rate (not the rate we were quoted and paid for). They DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS - THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT $$$$. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - STAY CLEAR. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR AS THE SAYING GOES. There are companies that are a bit more expensive - but they are reliable. We know this because we did not renew what we had with another company (First American Home Warranty) because their rates had increased but we had to have a stove replaced last year - they bought us a new stove $1,350 and all we had to pay was $60. Reputable places do exist but Select Home Warranty is not one of them.

I purchased a Select home warranty plan and my a/c went out on Saturday June 21st at 5:15 p.m. I was told that because I have a six week old infant that I would receive emergency service. I called to check the status of my claim on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. as I had still not received any communication as to who would be out to service my home. I was then advised by a representative that it was probably my freon and that was not covered, and then he told me that it could take up to 24 hours to receive a service call.

I then called again Sunday evening as no call was yet made to me, to be told by their representative that the offices were closed. A technician was not dispatched to my home until Tuesday. The technician stated that the system was low on freon so that may affect the cooling temp, but also that the condenser fan motor was bad. The technician stated that he spoke with the warranty company and they advised that they would not pay. He said he could not help, but he would gladly make the repairs and I would have to pay.

This is a complete breach of contract. After speaking with Select home warranty on the phone they advised that they would not cover the repair if the a/c unit had ever been worked on by anyone else ever. And that I should provide them with photos and receipts of my a/c service history. The point of having a home warranty is for the what if factor in life. They are not living up to their end of the contract, they were happy to take my money to pay for a year of service upfront, just to turn around and not do any repairs that they don't feel like covering.

This is straight from my contract with Select: 6.3.6. Air Conditioning (Central). This Agreement covers the primary floor air conditioning unit of the covered home only, provided that the air conditioning unit does not exceed a five (5) ton capacity. This Agreement covers the following air conditioning components: (i) motors; (ii) compressors; (iii) condensers; and (iv) thermostats.

Over 3 days went by no one called so I called their preferred provider L.A. Pools. When I asked when they were coming out they had no clue who Select Home Warranty was - no, that they were a provider to the company.

I called Select Home Warranty back and told them the story and they said that they will have LA Pools call me back. After another 2 days LA Pool did call back and they did go to my home and confirmed that the pool pump had to be changed. Another 2 days go by I get a call from Home Select Warranty telling me they needed pictures of the pump. I sent them 3 pictures to show them that it was leaking. The following day I get a call from one of their employees telling me that since I didn't have any maintenance documents of the pump that as a courtesy they would pay me $150.00 for the repair. I told them that it was unacceptable since I didn't have a clue as to how much the repair would cost. He came back and told it was going to be $940.00 and that was way above what they would pay. I asked him why wouldn't they cover the repair and he continue to over speak to me saying that it was my obligation to have the maintenance documents.

Never was I told when I purchased the service that in order to get things repaired I need the maintenance documents of any of the appliances, pool or the plumbing. The employee told me that he would call me back and he was going to try to see what he could do for me. He called back the following day and as a great solution he said that he could pay me $200.00 vs the $150.00. I told him that was still unacceptable since the repair was much more. I asked to please give me their max which was $480.00 and he said that based not having the records he couldn't. I went back to my policy and it stated maintenance documents or photos. I did provide the photos and I guess it was enough.

I highly advise anyone that wants to sign up because of a lower deductible beware that many times by being cheap you lose out on the long run. This was a lesson learned but please do not buy any warranties with Select Home Warranty. I sent a e-mail as requested by Claims to a Mr. Alex ** and of course no response. Three weeks of going back and forth no solution and it left me choice than to cancel my contract with them.

I purchased SHW because they seemed nice and let's be honest, they are one of the lowest priced warranty companies out there, but you get what you pay for!!! Actually I donated my premium to them, as they haven't covered any of my 3 claims since I've had them for 1 year. BE SURE TO READ THE NOT COVERED COMPONENTS of your contract before signing and giving them money. They find a way to NOT cover anything. Even if it's not listed in the not covered components, they will find a way to not pay. Most recent incident, today...... I have a faulty sensor on my garage door opener. They indicate it's not covered. Really?!?!? I read the contract and it should be, but true to form - they aren't covering it. I even had one of their technicians tell me when my claim was denied, "Let's face it. You chose the cheapest warranty company out there and they just don't cover claims".

I have three of my houses under Select Warranty, and it seems like kind of a hit-or-miss, depending on who gets called as far as taking the call for a claim or a service that needs to be done. Sometimes I get somebody who's very easy to work with or somebody who's not. When I put in claims, it seems like there's a lot of information that's asked for to be able to qualify for a claim when it's not really specified in the contract. So I haven't really been too happy with the service. Unfortunately, I have paid through I think a couple of years on all three homes. Had I known it was going to be like that, I would have gone with another. Actually I did some research on the internet and it seemed like there were some good reviews, but obviously it doesn't reflect my experience so far.

I informed them that this unit never has had any problem since installed and SHW said it had to have records.... OF WHAT???!! The contract is written directly in their favor, not the consumer. After talking with them several times, I have come to the conclusion that this company is staffed by about 3 to 4 people that rotate excuses each day. Stay clear of Select Home Warranty!!! Let me first point out that even this website contains false information. They are not BBB accredited and their current rating is C- NOT B+. Go to the BBB website before believing any other site's claims. Air conditioner unit is malfunctioning. Similar issued occurred last year and service was provided by Select Home Warranty.

Lie # 1 - Company claims that since we do not have any maintenance records beyond the time with their company that we are in violation of their contract (maintenance was done personally and nowhere in the contract does it state it has to be done by a contractor). Lie # 2 - the "manager" tried to convince us that we had an outdated contract and finally after much argument agreed that our contract was current. Lie # 3 - they are requiring that a certified HVAC professional has to look at the unit and stated the cost was $280 and they would only cover $120 (no explanation was given as to how they came up with that number as the contract states they cover up to $250 when claim is denied).

When we contacted the HVAC company, they informed us that the cost would be $330. Blatant misrepresentation of facts. Please consumers, do your homework and stay away from this company or you may be the next person who gets taken advantage of! I learned about Select Home Warranty through a Google search I made after my previous company suddenly dropped me without notice. I chose them based off of the reviews and what they were quoting. I got a five-year platinum or whatever the highest was with an additional 2 air conditioning units, additional heater, and additional pool and spa.

Submitting a claim was a little difficult because I had to do it after hours. The website was not responding to an error with their website. I was having an issue with my pool pump. When I called in, there was unfortunately only one person who did not have access to my information and couldn't answer my questions. He was very nice and was very apologetic. The thing I liked best was he was very upfront with his limitations due to the time that I have called. He basically took a message for the next morning, but they got it. The person that came up was not able to make the repair at the time, let me know it was no big deal, came back fairly within two or three days, made the repair and it's worked perfectly ever since. I'm happy with what they did.

So far, it's been really good. The only thing they need is overnight support. I felt really bad for the technician who had to answer the calls because I understood what his limitations were and I don't think that the company should have put him in that place. That's my experience from being in technical support, over the phone for years. Other than that, everybody I have dealt with has been very kind, very customer service oriented and very nice. So overall, the experience with the individuals has been fantastic. I just wish the technology would catch up with their customer service.

The first guy that received my claim told me that I was supposed to get a call from someone that's supposed to come to fix and I never received this call. So after a few days, I just called myself some company that they referred me to. This company said they never received anything from Select Home Warranty.

I called again Select Home Warranty and they apologized and someone called me pretty quickly in a few hours. The technician came, did his job, called in to someone on the spot to get authorization because he didn't have it before. He described the problem and fixed it. And I paid him my deductible and he left. The work done was perfect. Everything is fine but I would expect that if someone tells me someone will contact me, it will be true and someone will contact me. Otherwise it was a good experience.

Submitting the claim was okay but it took quite a while for them to get a service provider to me. Also, the technician that came was pretty skeptical of the company and had worked with them before. He was frustrated because instead of being able to order the parts for a dishwasher himself and just getting it done, they insisted on ordering it and shipping it to my house. Then I had to call the technician and let him know that the parts arrived and then he was another week out so it wasn't a simple process.

When the parts came, one of the parts was missing and rather than go through the whole rigmarole again, my husband and I just went online and ordered the part. It was a cheap part, otherwise I wouldn't have done it but it was about $11 out of another $11 out of pocket for the parts that should have arrived to begin with. The part was ordered because it was confirmed but it wasn't on the parts list or on back order. I was just to the point of "we're just gonna do it and get it done."

The final result was fine. And like I said, it took the technician a while to get back to us again. But he should have been able to just order the parts through his own network and get it done rather than wait for the company to order and deliver them to us and then reschedule him to come back again on our own. It was just lengthy.

Select is economical but you get what you pay for.

I fired Select Home Warranty last month. I have waited a month to allow my emotions to calm down. They have. However, I would warn anyone of buyer beware with this company. Have your lawyer read the fine print. If you don't have a lawyer do not do business with this company is my advice.

Situation: My heater in my family room was not working. Called Select Home Warranty in Jan 2014. After three weeks of waiting for someone to call me I called them again. They sent a very nice gentlemen out to the house within 24 hours. It was the motor on the heater. The service man cautioned me that they would only pay 10% of the cost and had another customer have major issues with SHW. I thought that won't be me. Well it was. When all said and done the cost was well over $1000 and they offered to pay $120.00. I canceled the contract in April 2014 and had to call again and again to get my refund for the remaining balance. I strongly recommend that this company not have a good standing. I have to believe I am not the only angry customer. To the vendors, you are tarnishing your name being associated with this company.

I had American Home Shield in the past and it was less expensive as far as the premium, so I chose it over the others. They did respond when I called in for a service. Sometimes you feel like you need someone out immediately. It was a couple of days before someone was able to come out. I don't know if I'm real happy with that particular way. Now, that may just be part of it.

I had this policy about 11 months when our washer failed. Select sent a repair co. out and the estimate to repair was more than to replace. I called the claims dept and was told by Sam to go out and purchase a new washer. I told him I was uncomfortable doing that without a dollar amount or a purchase order or something that would give me some idea of the reimbursement amount. He said just go buy another one and send in the receipt. I was impressed, I should have known better. Since we had a Whirlpool Duet front loading unit that is what we bought. In this company's advertising they describe situations where an appliance could cost a loss of anywhere from $500 to $1300. The impression is that they will step in and prevent the loss. What they don't tell you is that there is a $500.00 cap in the back of the policy.

So I sent in the receipt and they offered me $150.00 which was unacceptable to say the least since my receipt was for $995.00 plus tax and $200.00 for the pedestal plus tax. They then called and said they were excited that they had good news and offered me $350.00. They then informed me that the appliance cap for any claim was $500.00. I prepaid the premium for three years. These people are deceptive to say the least. Save yourself the aggravation and buy from some other company like American Home Shield!

I have one experience where I had to call Select Home Warranty for a service repair person in. It was a problem with my dryer. Everything was okay. I was happy that they were here within the next day. I don't know if that's how it's going to always be. With something air conditioning in the middle of summer, I don't know if they'd be so quick to respond. And the same with the heating in the winter.

I was searching for home warranties and saw Select Home Warranty online. We already had a home warranty service on our existing residence and this was for a rental, so we got it. The pricing was a lot better. I've had them less than a year. The experience has been very good. I haven't dealt directly with the warranty company because we have a property manager who handles it but everything was good. They're very efficient.

I chose Select Home Warranty because of the deductible and their coverage services. I now live in Boston but I transferred out in the military and my daughter is occupying the house back in so it's just a better fit to have home warranty service. It's cheaper to do that than it is to drive back and make a referral. I've had them since October and so far the experience is good. The contractor that they sent out for the one repair, the plumber only did half the job but that's not on Select Home Warranty, that's on the actual provider. I'd recommend Select to anyone.

I heard about Select Home Warranty from the realtor who sold us the house. We've had other service contracts before and so we thought with an old house, we should probably get one. We've been a customer for more than a year. This is the first time we've used them. It was an oil service call. He came in and it worked for several hours and then it didn't work again, so we called the company that we normally deal with. We're really not happy.

My policy with Select Home Warranty went active mid-December. I got one because a friend of mine suggested I do it and explained to me about the one he has, so that’s what I got. So far I’ve had one claim -- a fairly simple process. They put me in touch with a local contractor. They came out, they repaired it, but they didn’t repair it properly all the way. I called them again, they sent him back out... I didn’t have to pay an additional charge.

I’m satisfied with the way the business is conducted. However, I wish they’d be more clear on what they do and don’t cover in their advertisement. The contract I received, maybe 15-20 pages long, you got to really dig in to see what is and isn’t covered. They cover the septic tank but they don’t cover the sump pump. You got to get a separate one for that. You’d think they’d be all included, but it’s not. Either something comes up or you just get a chance to really read into the contract.

It was a horrible experience dealing with Select Home Warranty. Every time I call, the guys that answer the phone are nasty. I put in a claim as my air conditioner is not working and it was rejected because 3 months ago my other air conditioner was fixed. I told them that the one they fixed was on the second floor and the unit they're going to fix is on the first floor. They said they have to review it and maybe it's just Freon. I don't know if it's Freon so I told them to call one of their contractors to come and look at it to tell them what's wrong with it. The guy said no. How can they tell me that? That's what I have for protection, right? I haven't seen an air conditioner since Thursday. I have two kids and myself that have asthma and it hasn't been done yet.

When I first called Select Home Warranty, they kept asking me all kinds of various questions like, "Are you sure that you didn’t have this problem before?" I was not happy with the way that they were kind of drilling me. I told them that we had just moved in the house 2 or 3 months ago, and all of the sudden the garage door had a problem. It seemed like they are almost trying to get out. Then they told us it would be covered. A guy came out, we gave him $40 and then they called and said "Well I just want you to know that it wasn’t covered, but I'm going to go ahead and honor it." I was like, “Okay.” I just know that I won't have it next year. I'll go with another company. But they did what they were supposed to do which was fine.

My landlord suggested Select so I got it in case anything was wrong. Unfortunately it did not go smoothly, when I finally needed something fixed. They literally covered not even a quarter of the cost. I had to pay everything else out of pocket. According to them it wasn't a part what it needed. The air conditioner could've not run without it. They argued with me forever. They were rude too. It was not a good experience.

I've had a home warranty ever since we bought our home here in Tennessee, for 5 or 6 years. We were with another company and they had a pretty big increase in their policy. Then I got some information on the internet from Select and called them. Select gave me a good price and so I gave it a whirl. I had one claim and was pretty much satisfied. However, it took them a little while to get everything done, so I was a little disappointed. They said that they work with Sears Repair and my appliances were all Sears. They want to call them about replacing the top unit in my oven. They sent someone out and it took about a week, but they did get it fixed and all it cost me was my deductible.
