Like several others, I asked what my monthly cost would be for service and was guaranteed it would only be $20.00 for service per month. Now I have a bill for $82.00. They tacked a $35 container deliver fee, which I can get past, but I can not get past the "Total Fuel/Environmental Recovery Fee" that is $19.46 thereby doubling my monthly fee. From their site, they claim this is not a government required tax or fee, just something they tack on to "make a reasonable profit". In other words, they trick people into signing up for their service at $20/mo, then hit them with another $20/mo charge to make money because their company is so poorly run that they can't make a profit at $20/mo, so instead of charging people $40 up front, they lie. I wouldn't be surprised to see a $1/mo special sometime in the near future with a $60/mo "Fuel/Environmental" fee. I'm "dumping" them first thing Monday, pun intended.

Just received a bill from Republic Services due on Jan.1, 2015 for $205.42 for services to be rendered from 01/01/15 to 03/31/15. Our account was current and paid in full through December. Included in the new charges is a $51.45 Fuel/ Environmental Recovery Fee. (Even though fuel costs have gone down). Republic Services has had a bad habit of not making up for non pick ups on holidays or inclement weather. Apparently they feel this should be my tough luck. We are currently seeking a new provider.

I had this garbage company for 3 years. The entire time I was told I pay in the middle of the 2 month cycle. When you cancel their service, I was told I pay at the end of the cycle and I owed another 2 months and they charge me 30 bucks to pick up cans which they do anyway on last day (crazy)... 3 months of collection mailings and threats when I made 4 payments for 8 months of service but they still want 2 more months payments plus container pickup of 30 bucks..The lady in sauk rapids, MN is a liar... I paid it because I was tired of the threats. No national number to contact. I will get my 40 bucks worth as 10 of my neighbors will be canceling because of my experience.

Republic bought out our previous waste pickup company. After two months of commercial service with Republic, in which we had multiple missed pickups and inconsistent pickup schedules, we noticed that we were still being billed separately for recycling, though Republic apparently does single stream recycling for all pickups in our area and neglected to inform us of this fact. We called multiple times to get the charges reversed and have them close out our separate recycling account. Have still not received confirmation or notification that our credits have been processed. We then had more than a full week without our pickups being done as scheduled. Called on a Friday regarding our missed Thursday pickup and were told that it would either be picked up Friday or the following Monday (which is one of our regularly scheduled pickups, in which case we would receive a credit for the missed pickup). Our pickup did not occur until Tuesday.
When calling customer service, we were told that they had no notes on our account regarding a call on Friday and that their GPS said they stopped by our location on Thursday (something that they did not say when we called them on Friday). We were unable to get in touch with a manager or supervisor and the customer service rep was incredibly rude and basically accused of us lying. We then tried to put a hold on our account as we are a business and are closed on holidays and were told that they would not put a credit on our account while it was on hold, even though they would not be doing a pickup at our location.
After months of being double billed, having multiple missed pickups without any resolution, and dealing with a maze of horrible customer service reps, we are switching service providers. The fact that they expect us to pay them for missed pickups, and for calling ahead to put our service on hold, is reprehensible. It is their responsibility to take notes of customer service calls. It is their responsibility to make pickups when scheduled. It should not be our job to call them on a weekly basis to make sure they do their job.

I contracted with Republic Services for a dumpster rental, and they took a $472.92 deposit. I paid all the invoices and now my account has a credit balance. I tried with CS 3 times already, and nobody can tell me when or how will get my deposit back. This has been more than a month since I returned the dumpster and paid the invoices. They did not send me the first invoice and I was late a couple of days, and for this they sent me a collection threatening letter.

I contacted Republic to get an accurate quote about their service, and I made sure to ask if there were any additional fees or expenses. I was told it would be $14.50 per month with no additional fees, taxes, etc. So you can imagine the surprise when my first bill arrives and the $14.50 per month has risen to $55.44 per month instead. They failed to let me know that they charge to deliver their container to you (additional $10).
During the first month, they missed two pick-ups, but most surprisingly is that when I contacted Customer Service, they didn't seem in the least bit surprised about the price differences. Customer Service was quick to let me know that they wouldn't be changing anything on the bill even though I never asked them to. I was calling to let them know that I wanted to cancel the service as I don't want to stay with any company that misquotes prices and then gouges you later as if nothing is wrong with that. That fact that Customer Service wasn't surprised and didn't even bother to apologize about the misinformation lets me know this is nothing new for them.
After looking on the Better Business Bureau site, I saw that this seems to happen to many people as you can see in all the complaints filed against them. If they had been honest from the start and let me know that they charge you to deliver their container to you along with a Fuel/Environmental Recovery Fee, County Environmental Charge and a Solid Waste Management Tax I would have been a more informed consumer and gone with another company. I'm assuming this is why they failed to be honest with me.
Thankfully I caught this early on and never signed up for a 2-year contract with them. From what I understand, there's a steep cancellation fee if you are on that. I did find another great company that let me know all the fees ahead of time (Walters Recycling) plus they don't charge you to deliver their container to you! If you are looking into Republic for your trash pick-up just be aware and get your quote in writing via e-mail. Walters had no problem putting it in writing, and I was never able to get the person at Republic to send over their quote to me in writing which should have been a red flag. I learned and now hope that others don't have to go through this too.

The person I talked with said she did not know how to transfer the phone to her manager.

Received a notice in the mail that my bill was overdue. Then received a "courtesy call" with a message to call a certain number to discuss my bill. I called the number but after waiting about 10 mins on hold, the system cycled to a chose giving me the option to leave a message. I left one stating that I was cancelling my service. Call the number a second time again leaving a message regarding the cancellation. By this time I have received a threatening notice in the mail. I called the number on the bill and spoke with a representative. When I explained that I had left message about cancelling, the representative was unaware of the number I called. To confirm my statement, she called the number. After finding that my statements were true, the service was cancelled with a retroactive credit.
3 weeks later I receive a notice stating my bill has been sent to collection and it is for the original amount. I receive another call with another number to contact someone. After several attempt to reach a live person, they inform me that the credit has not gone through and will not for another week. But my bill is still being sent to collections. Plus there is a $25 removal fee and fuel and environmental fees for the removal. If I just decide to keep the trashcan they will charge me $65 for purchasing a can that is 12 years old. And they wonder why I am choosing another company. When I started with them the bill was $45 dollars a quarter. Now it is $145 a quarter.

I have been a customer for 9 years and recently when I questioned my bill, I was treated terribly. I was told they have a right to raise the rate anytime they want to, which they have. I then asked them about replacing my dumpster, which really seemed like a hassle. As I explained to them, it had a large hole in the bottom and trash was everywhere b/c of it. They said they would replace it with the next pickup on Tuesday. I called back b/c at this point I was just mad at the way they were treating me so I asked them to cancel my service. Now they became very hateful and said a sales rep. would call me. No one did so 3 days later, I called again and was told the same thing, So I also sent an e-mail. Still nothing. So I decided to call again the next day. This time I actually got a person that was pleasant. She gave me the sales rep's number and I called him. He told me I was under contract, and I said I signed a 9-year contract, he said he would bring it by which he did.
It is a 3-year contract renewable automatically every 3 years unless I cancel by certified letter 60 days in advance. This same contract allows them to raise the rate at any time for any reason (I can't blame them for this part b/c I was the D.A. that signed the contract). I called back the sales rep and asked what the fee was for cancelling. I left a message on voice mail and am now waiting for a call back.
To backtrack a little when I signed the contract, it was $35/month for a 3-yard dumpster to be picked up every other Tuesday. There were no service fees at the time. I now pay over $89/month for the service and another $34/ for environmental and service fees. That's right $123/month, over a 350% increase over the original contract. As I stated earlier, I take responsibility for not reading the contract more carefully and will chalk that up to a life lesson. But their service is terrible and the people that work in customer service are hateful people. The way they do business is definitely underhanded and sneaky. With any luck, more people will catch on to them and they will either change or go out of business.

Pick-up service inconsistent. I've had yard waste at the curb for the last 3 weeks. When I call customer service for pick-up, they tell me that they will let their driver know he's missed the pick up but they never show up. This has been going on all summer long. I asked for my bill to be adjusted but they refused claiming they had no documented proof that I had called so many times! Customer service not that friendly either! I would not recommend this company.

Terrible service and even worse customer service when trying to deal with service issues. They service my home inconsistently and because recycle pickups are only scheduled for every other week, this basically translated to ONE pick up per month. I constantly had to call to remind them to do their job and service my home because our garbage always filled up due to missed servicing. They did offer me a refund when I asked to get out of my contract, but said it would take SIX OR MORE MONTHS TO PROCESS. Total joke coming from a company I have NO trust for based on a service track record. The icing on the cake, however, was a $30.00 container removal fee when I canceled the "service" [hard to call it service]. Basically if you use this company you DEFINITELY WILL be disappointed and will be wasting your money on a company who doesn't care about its customers.

I have had service with them for 10 years. I moved into this house and the dumpster was already there so I had it switched to my name. They missed occasionally for the first few years. Then as the service got worse, they closed the local office. In the last 2 years, I have had multiple times that they missed and always had an excuse, truck broke, new driver, no driver for this route...etc. Two times they told me that they would have someone out the next day to pick it up and that didn't happen and they missed my regular day again. About 2 months ago, they missed for 3 weeks in a row. When I called I was told I would get a 3 week credit on my bill.......didn't happen. I tried to get in touch with a real person last Friday because that was the second Friday in a row that I did not get my trashed picked up.
They have now only an automated menu for phone calls and say they will be in contact. I went to their website again and filled out complaint. I received an automated email saying someone in customer service would contact me the next business day. No one contacted me on Monday. I filled out another complaint on the web and got the same automated email. This time I told them I would solve their problem by cancelling my service. I have not heard an answer to that. I have already ordered service from a different company and they have delivered the dumpster. I have a couple of friends that have cancelled in the last 2 years and they say that Republic wants to charge a $60 pick up fee to come get their own dumpster. That thing can stay in my alley and turn to rust before I pay them to pick up their own equipment! I wish there were negative stars on here, they don't even deserve one star.

The city of Sheridan forced the residents of Sheridan to use Republic Services AKA Allied Waste services starting June 1st 2014. I have 2 homes in Sheridan. I live in one and my son lives in the other. I asked for the 32 gallons rate of $7.80 a month for both homes, because I have a hobby auto shop in Sheridan where I have a 4 yard dumpster which I own and is picked up weekly by Waste Connections. {GREAT COMPANY} So I really had no need for Republic's services.
Long story short, Republic has picked up my home 32 gallon 1 time and it was a week late, while my son's home has not been picked up at all. I got a bill today for my home and it was $47.95. For my son's was $25.00. Both bills contained a container delivery charge of $18.50 even though we did not ask for this service. It was forced upon us .When I talked with Misti at Republic she acted as though I was trying to get a free pickup from Republic instead of helping me. I was asked where the can was, was there trash beside it, was it out on time, and why did I wait a week to call. Not once did Misti ever think the driver might have missed our stops. Why do I have to use this company? I pay the bill not, Sheridan.

I have experienced multiple problems with this company over the years but remained loyal thinking they would work out their issues. This month was the last straw. They stopped picking up my yard waste bin without warning, no courtesy pick up with a note for me to call their office to remind them to send me my bill. (something they should KNOW TO DO) My yard bin in the meantime got full as one would expect. I called them again and confirmed there was nothing owed on my account and to ask why they still were not picking up my trash. They said they had truck problems and that they were running behind, then when they finally got here a couple days later they still didn't pick up my yard trash bin because they said it was too heavy now and that I need to go out and empty it into bags.
Well, I am an older person, I explained that the reason it is heavy is because they do not pick it up each week like they are supposed to because that is what I pay them to do. Their customer service rep was so rude and expected me to shore up for their short fall. I dropped them today, told them to get their containers off my property and after over 25 years of being a loyal customer I have to ask myself why? They DO NOT DESERVE TO HAVE ANY CUSTOMERS! I have had problems with this company 4 times in less than 10 months. They automatically started billing me without telling me, and I did not live in the residence. I bought a house in April, but I did not move in until August, YET I received a bill for services that they did not do. I informed them that I did not live there thus they did nothing, they told me it did not matter, that the city law says they can charge people for service no matter if they are or not, or the house is Vacant or not.
I noticed that they would take the lid off my can, throw it on the ground so the wind would blow it down the street, so I tied a VERY loose string on it so the lid would not fly away, they cut it off not once but TWICE. Then I made a "hinge" so the lid would fall back and they could dump the garbage, they broke it off and I lost my lid (I looked everyone it's like they took it). I contacted them they said the wind did it (Yes the wind cut the string twice and broke a hinge).
I cut branches off my tree in 3 foot lengths with NO other branches sticking out, in other words it was a 3 foot long log. I tied them together (About 8 pieces) and put them on top of my garbage with the now missing lid. They took OUT the logs, laid them by the can and threw away the garbage. I contacted them, they said it might have been a safety hazard to handle to logs, YET, they could pick them up and put them by the can alright.
I went to dump some paint at their yard on the day they said I could. I saw a sign saying "Do not block driveway", so I waited until the car in the driveway moved, then I moved up out of the way of the yellow curb, a woman runs out of the booth and YELLS, "YOU'RE BLOCKING THE ROAD." I looked again out my window and was not (Also how can she see how far up I am from the curb when she is a good 50 or more feet from the road), when I turned back around the car in front of me moved so I moved again.
When I got to the booth I told her I was not blocking, she said I was and then printed out a paper for me to sign, there was a "scratch mark" so I signed next to it. As I drove away she YELL AGAIN, "YOU DID NOT SIGN", when she stood RIGHT NEXT TO ME WHEN I SIGNED. So I said, "Yes I did, right next to the mark you made." She said, "That is not a mark, its my signature, YOU need to sign here", and pointed to a spot lower on the paper. So I signed it AGAIN (Don't know why they cannot take a signature ANYWHERE on the sheet as it proves the sheet was signed). I wrote to them again, and I did not hear anything for a WEEK this time (no holidays in between or nothing) and the person was seeming to tell me it was my fault for everything (He of course did not come right out and say it, just told me the reason why the booth lady was "asking me" - it was yelling NOT asking" - to do those things).

This company is incompetent in many ways. From the way they communicate with their corporation to the tone in their voices when you call to get THEIR admitted error. After signing up for service with them only last May, we have had nothing but problems. We agreed to a period of one year at $55.00 per billing cycle and for our convenience opted for the auto-payment plan, charging it to our credit card. What a fiasco! We limited the amount to $55.00, after all, that was the agreed amount.
Well, due to them billing us for MORE than the agreed amount, the payment was rejected. This caused a "service interpretation" penalty of $35.00. No notification was sent to us in order for us to prevent this problem. They increased our rate without telling us then fined us for not paying them (We have an outstanding credit rating of about 817 or so and you don't get that by NOT paying your bills on time)! They said that unless we upped our amount that they were allowed to charge to our credit card this problem would occur again and that they would Not waive the late payment charge again.
Really? It's as though they wanted to collect as much as they wanted and we should then, call them to correct the problem. Are you kidding me? Who runs a business, much less a multi-billion dollar business, like this? Or maybe this is why they Are a multi-billion dollar company. Hmm? At any rate, after months and hours of trying to figure out how to get our trash picked up, having our agreed dollar amount to our credit card, we have given up. No way are we going to allow them to take any amount that they wish to charged after we both agreed on an amount. That would be ridiculous and SO IS REPUBLIC SERVICES. Too bad for them that there are many companies out there who, incidentally charge less and have much more reasonable people with which to deal.
So, Republic, I suggest that you check into why your company doesn't stick to the agreed fees, suggests that your customers fix your unannounced rate increases and check your agents/reps condescending attitudes. Just a thought from someone who has run her own successful business for more than 40 years. I'm just sayin'....

When we moved to a different city, we no longer needed their services so I called to cancel our service and have our trash / recycle bins picked up and removed. They never picked them up. Shortly after moving we received an enormous bill stating they were charging us for the sale of the bins since they weren't picked up. I called my previous landlord and he indicated that approximately 2 weeks after we moved and him complaining to the garbage truck driver, the cans were finally picked up. I tried calling and having a civil conversation with customer service and eventually someone claiming they were a supervisor. That conversation ended with them saying they needed to check with their operations dept to confirm they were picked up. He stated that they would call me back with the results. Needless to say, I never got a call back.
Late November we got another bill with the same amount being charged saying if we didn't pay it, they would be sending it to collections. I called them again and received the same results. Once my recycling bin was finally delivered it has not been picked up once. I've called multiple times, each week asking to speak with a supervisor. I've spoken to countless reps. The last rep I spoke with said it was noted in my account that I spoke to a supervisor, when in fact I was placed on hold so that the rep could speak to a supervisor. She also told me that I was not on the pick-up schedule, even though I should be.
She stated that she would have someone call me back. No one ever called back. I called again and finally spoke to a supervisor this Monday, Sept. 9th. He assured me (like others had before) that I was now on the schedule and my recycling would be picked up. Again, this week, it was not picked up. I was given a measly $7 credit for all this trouble and inconvenience. I've left multiple voice mail messages with no returned calls. Also the management team will find little things to pick on you about to try and make you lose it so they can write you up or worse. Stay away from this company!

This company keeps billing me even though I cancelled the service months ago. Don't use them.

The management does not care - they just want the money. They treat the employees terrible. They are union and are always trying to scam the customers and the employees. This is the worst place work and the worst trash removal service I have seen. Your day is never done. They stick you in trucks that are below par and dangerous. They lie, cheat and implement rules unless it suits them. I am going to Waste Management because the Republic is so lackluster. The teamsters don't do anything for the drivers. All they want to do is take your money and and if any incident happens, it is all your fault. Ernie ** is the worst operations manager ever. They screw you out of anything they can and ** is a yes man, and Dave ** is the most incompetent person I've met. I've talked to him and hey, he just puts his hands in pockets and rolls, looks up at the sky because he doesn't have the fortitude to look you in the eye. He is weak. All in all, go with waste management. Republic is more expensive but you get what you pay for.

I continued the residential trash service used by the prior owners when we bought our home, thinking the fees were probably similar and competitive, but I was wrong. I didn't question it for over 5 years. This past Christmas, we had a few gift boxes that didn't fit into our (usually not full) can left at the curb, twice. When I inquired, I was told others on the route were putting out more than their fair share. While I agree that those who routinely abuse a service should be held responsible, we were not the ones who did. Last week, we had some styrofoam in our can which was an inch or two taller than the can (which was not otherwise full). Because the lid wasn't completely closed, I received a phone call to tell me that I needed an additional can (at a higher cost). I got seriously aggravated and made some phone calls to other providers. I now pay about half what Republic Services charges locally for identical service. In addition, my new provider will take any "extras" at a reasonable charge, if they charge at all, and not require a second container and fees for it. It seems it pays to shop around and consider your options. I'm glad I did!

What a waste! - I've been using this "service" for the last few months in Cobb County. Today makes the third or fourth time I've had to call because my recycling hasn't been picked up. At first I thought maybe I was getting the schedule wrong since they only pick up every other week. However, after rolling my bin out every Friday and leaving it Saturday as well, this is just unacceptable. The first time I called, the lady was nice but informed me there wasn't a driver in the area to pick up my bin, but she assured me they would come the following Friday. Guess what? Never happened.
I called yet again and the nice guy made sure someone came that very day and assured me my next pick up would happen flawlessly on the 28th. It's now December 31st and my full recycling bin is still sitting by the curb. Are you kidding me? Who runs a business like this? This waste management service is truly a waste of my money. When I called yet again this morning, the girl once again typed notes on my account. She also tried to get me in touch with a supervisor but he was unavailable. I am beyond frustrated with this lack of service and lack of results.

Commercial accounts - If you own an apartment and are looking to use this company, beware. They do not get out of the truck to pick up trash and if there is trash next to the dumpster, they will set the dumpster right on top of the trash!

They are the only garbage company who services our garbage pickup. They hadn't picked up garbage in 6 to 8 weeks. This is an ongoing problem with the recycle driver for the last 4 years. I am a disabled and can not take garbage to the dump on my own. The above person has abused her authorization to cancel accounts. She is very disrespectful on the phone. Also, the driver manager is disrespectful. I don't know if it's because of my disability or misunderstanding me on the phone due to a speech problem from my accident. Also, if the garbage cans aren't where the drivers want them, they never get picked, especially by that recycle driver. He has always just driven by.

I missed residential pick up three weeks in a row and haven't come same day to fix it. Usually, it takes two to five days for them to come back.
We didn't have a problem before they bought Allied Waste and the recent problem is being blamed on a computer software glitch, so they have to build the routes manually, but after calling in each time, they still haven't fixed the route to include us. I am getting complaints from neighbors, since the trash is infront of the house.

I am a customer of Waste Management and have been for the last 9 years. There was a random charge on my last bill of $18.48. I didn't look at my bill closely, so I paid it. On my latest bill, the random $18.48 has been added again. I phoned WM today (08/19/11) and spoke with a customer service representative (Stephanie, Floor Lead/Supervisor).
They told me it was their mistake and that they couldn't explain why it had been added, but I have to pay it anyway and they will then credit my account on my next bill. I told them I cannot afford to pay the random charge/mistake, which is to be reimbursed in two months' time. I was told that if I do not pay this random added charge again, I may incur late fees! After hearing this, I asked if I could speak with a Manager, only to be told that the Manager had just gone into a meeting and will only repeat the same anyway. I'm outraged that I have overpaid on my last bill and now I have to overpay on this bill when I can't afford to.

This is a notice to All Gwinnett County GA residents. As a homeowner, I am furious that Republic Services (my Gwinnett County Government required waste provider) will not pick up my yard waste in my well-marked (painted) plastic trash can! They require the brown paper bags! You have got to be kidding me. Paper bags require more trees to be used for yard waste ! That is just plain stupid! Please do the right thing and force Republic Services to take yard waste in a truly recyclable container, that is well marked Yard Waste.
