I have been a customer of Orkin for over 5 years now. For the last year, every time it came time to schedule an appointment, there would be problems. We would call and ask for the service person to please call us to reschedule and never receive a phone call. But he would sure show up on the original scheduled day and spray on the outside and leave a note for indoor service. Well in our instance, that indoor service is much more needed since we live in a row home. With the outdoor service, we are basically only getting the front and the back sprayed. But then we would have to make another phone call (since our first call was never returned) to get them to come out again. Yes, this is the service that they'll provide if needed, but that seems excessive. And as a customer, it's frustrating not to receive any return phone calls.

This is not even where our problems start. We have had several instances where we have had flying ants and regular crawling ants. They were coming in at night and infesting the entire kitchen area along with some other areas of the house. I am talking about hundreds of ants a time. We were told to spray Windex to slow them down. We did this and only cleaned them up for the day. Since it was so late in the evening, we would be told that we will receive a phone call to schedule service. 3 or 4 days would go by and we would not hear anything. We would have to call again. One of the service people came out and asked my husband where they were coming in at. They were told they were coming in the left side of the backdoor. He sprayed exactly where he was told. A few nights later, they were back and they were coming in the right side of the door (why wasn't the whole area sprayed the first time?).

We understand that things are not always going to work 100%. But the amount of ants that came into the house was unacceptable. And furthermore, the flying ants were not dying. They were only active at night. We thought we had gone around and cleaned them all up. The next morning, they had gathered under a light and it had appeared as if they were dead. Because of work and rushing to get out of the house, they were not cleaned up. But sure enough, night time came around and they were crawling and flying again. Any other insects that we saw in the house would be found dead or close to dying, but not the ants. In dealing with this situation, once again we did not receive return phone calls and had very poor service. Here we go again making phone calls.

In being a customer for so long, I had a credit card on file at one point and would be charged every 3 months. When it expired, I gave them another one to put on file. It worked for the first 2 services I believe and after that, I was sending a check in every month. They told me they never got a new card number. Well, I was not going to give my number out again. In being very unhappy with Orkin, I did not pay the bill in hopes to get someone's attention. All we wanted was our issues solved and to receive a phone call (with a message). But in not paying, I would receive anywhere from 3 to 7 phone calls in 1 day according to our caller ID and of course, no messages.

I wrote a letter stating all of these and that I wanted to make my payment. I wanted someone to call my cell phone. Instead of being called, the phone calls stopped and in about 1 week, I received a letter that I was sent to collections. I then also called the regional office late in the evening the day I received the letter. I explained everything to the person who answered the phone. All I wanted at this point is for someone from the regional office to give me a call. I never received that call. I have made my payment. Technically, I did owe the money even though it was for poor service. The ants are gone for now (until next spring that is). But I will be sure to find a different company to deal with.

This is the second appointment missed. I called to ask why Frank wasn't here for the inspection appointment. Frank got on the line and immediately began lying about the the time of the appt. We ended the exchange with him promising that he would be here in 40-minutes. An hour and 10 minutes later, I locked up and was about to leave for a meeting I was now late for when he finally showed up. I told him to look at the storeroom first. Ha said he didn't think that was included. I told him it is part of the structure and to look anyway. He spent maybe 10 to15 seconds shining his flashlight about. Next, I had him come in and do the interior inspection next, so I could lockup and leave. That took all of 3 to 4 minutes. I left and parked on a side street to see how long he'd be inspecting the outside area. Sure enough less than 10 minutes later, his Orkin truck whizzed by.

In summary, I had reminded them that they were late for the appointment (again). For an hour and 10 minute wait, all I got were lies, excuses and a useless inspection.

Original scope of service: Initial termite inspection and treatment 09/2004; renewable for up to five (5) years. Years 2 through 6 to consist of quarterly visits to monitor/service termite bait traps at $396 per year. I renewed the monitoring service for four (4) years.

On June 12th of this year, I received a certified letter from Orkin, claiming to have been on-site to perform their quarterly service on 06/08. I am retired and was home that day and no visit was made. They simply mailed it in.

This was an insult. I checked my records, and over the last 4 years, Orkin has missed 4 of the 16 quarterly inspections. That is a failure rate of 25%, equivalent to one year of service. I have repeatedly tried to get Orkin to acknowledge their 'failure to perform' and in short, I am getting the run-around. Promises to call back that are not fulfilled and endless excuses are the norm. Closer examination reveals inferior service in addition to the failure to keep their service commitments. Orkin management seems to think that if they stall long enough, I'll get tired of the process and let it go.

Orkin erroneously claims to have serviced my residence on 06/08 and is unable or unwilling to prove otherwise. Orkin has missed 3 similar service intervals. Orkin has been avoiding any reasonable attempt to rectify this situation as I am now entering month three (3) with this problem. I'm convinced Orkin is in material breach of contract for failure to perform.

What I seek from Orkin is a refund of the equivalent of one year's service. This is in reference to the 4 missed quarterly appointments that Orkin billed me for at $396 per year. For the above reasons, I simply want a refund of $396 for the services not rendered. I do not want Orkin to have the opportunity to do any "make-goods". They've had that chance.

I just wanted to say that Orkin was recommended to me by my brother in law. He had Orkin come out to his home right after he purchased his house 2 years ago. I just recently purchased a foreclosed home, and since I had no insect inspection, he said I should have Orkin come out. I did, and was/am very satisfied. He was very detailed in checking out problem areas and making sure our home is protected. I also called the customer service line and every operator has been really nice and helpful. Just because 1 person has a bad experience or just wants to complain, don't think that's the way it always is. If I stopped eating at all the restaurants people complained about, I'd never be able to go out to eat. Orkin was great, that's the bottom line.

What Orkin does is they say you can have 100% satisfaction guaranteed. They will use as little material, and spend as little time at your residence as possible. Let's say you are on a every other month contract. We are allotted 25 minutes, that's it, at your home. If you are a monthly, then you will see an Orkin guy for 15 minutes. They practice techniques and have little to say if your bug problem still continues. Orkin raised prices. Well with what we were trained to say and to do, it's not worth your money. Let's say you decide to skip a service or cancel. An Orkin tech will have a percentage number of cancels he is allotted. If it goes over 2%, then Orkin views it as the tech is not selling the need for Orkin and is fired. That's why there are many phone calls. Orkin hires to fire people. Orkin has a very high turn over rate. Just look at how many techs have serviced your home. Also we are trained to aggravate a potential problem. Like you might have conducive conditions for termites, Orkin will make you believe your house will fall down in a year. I could go on.

Where should I start? Orkin sucks! We have ants, spiders, silverfish, mice, and occasionally, cockroaches. We emailed them a year ago for a free inspection quote. The representative I spoke with gave detailed info on what the inspection would consist of. It didn't happen. She said they would inspect inside and out (they did), go under the house and inspect (they didn't). During the first visit, they were all nice and agreeable.

They sprayed, I paid, and they left. After that initial visit, I was always sent the invoice bill first, and then the tech would call the next day to schedule the next service. There was one time when I wasn't able to be there for the service, so the tech said he would come and spray outside, and suggested we do the "give your home key to tech" service. I don't think so! Who would do something that dumb! Besides, if I had done that, he would have been met at the front door by my dog. I said no to that idea. He sprayed outside and said he would be back in a couple of days to do the inside. All along, I asked and asked that they call me before coming over, so I could put my dog outside, so he could spray, but he never did. I waited out on my porch for over an hour, but no one showed up.

I called the office and the tech said he came over and knocked, but no one answered the door! They never totally got rid of any of my pests. On the last visit, the tech had me pay him after he was finished. Why do they send me an invoice bill if I am going to pay the tech? What a waste of paper. Anyway, I noticed the bill was more than the contract stated it would be. I called the office and asked why my bill went up, and the woman said that was the corporate office decision to raise prices. I asked why I didn’t get a notice. All she said was she didn't know why I didn't get a notice. I asked when my year contract was up, and she said it was up two months earlier on the prior visit. I was so mad. Why didn't they send me a letter to let me know of this? I know they want to do crappy service and still make you pay for it. Never again, Orkin. You suck! I still have pests, and I am out hundreds of dollars. It cost about $82 each time they came to the house to spray.

I have been an Orkin customer for almost 20 years. Tommy, our favorite tech for many years, always did a thorough job controlling our roaches and fleas. Two years ago, Orkin sent us a new tech who would pretend to spray the exterior of the house - then come inside and spray. One month, he allegedly sprayed only the outside of the house and said he would come back to spray inside the next month - after my grandchildren had moved out. He didn't come back, but we were still charged for full service. Now I received a bill for service on Feb. 18, 2009, when no one from Orkin has been here since December 2008! Roaches are crawling all over the house, but I don't care. I trusted Orkin for so many years, but they have let me down for the last time. I'm switching to a different pest control company and I am not paying for services that I did not receive!

A construction man suggested that we have, in our 25-year-old home, carpenter ants. I called Orkin and Ms. Konae came and spent 10 minutes inspecting the house. She told me that we may have carpenter ants, but I should buy termite protection from Orkin which is a $2,000/year contract because she can see some signs of termites under the stairs. Other two companies I've called said we have a perfectly clean house (no ants or termites) and there is absolutely no need to poison the environment. I've called Orkin and they totally ignored me.

All of you who are complaining about ORKIN need to move to WA and ask for Matt as their service rep. When my husband first came into contact with them at a trade show, I was skeptical and I hated having to sign a contract for a year. However, we had some problems that needed to be addressed. Rats in the attic was my biggest concern. Matt took some samples and said he looked them up. He called with some great suggestions as to how to adjust the environment so we didn't invite them in. We got rid of the bird feeders. kept all the food picked in the garden, dismantled the fountain. He stopped by often to empty and replace the traps. After a month, we opted to live trap and kill them ourselves because we could do that daily. Once they were gone, all 14 of them, Matt donned biohazard gear and inspected for me. He did that every visit for a year, assuring me they had not returned. Ants were in the barn and we needed to get a grip on those. That's hubbies space and he's happy with the results. Fleas are our latest concern. We tried all the natural stuff but nothing works like poison (ha ha). I hate it in the house, but it works and we don't seem to have obvious reactions. Fleas are currently under control. Yippee. With the poor economy, we had to look at dropping service, opted to keep it for one more year and will reevaluate in May. Heeding the warnings of others, I will call Terminix if I suspect termite problems though.

I had been an orkin customer for several years with the basic contract. In all those years they never noticed carpenter ants on my property. I was having minor construction work on my side porch & the construction crew discovered a carpenter ant infestation. I called Orkin to inquire how it was possible that I could have this problem when they had been spraying for pests for several years. They informed me that my current contract didnt cover carpenter ants (?) That would be an extra $150. I agreed since construction had been halted until the ants were taken care of. On the day of the appointment I waited all day but the technician came when I was picking my children up from school. He left no note or invoice that he had been there. The next day I called another local company, they came immediately, sprayed something that was connected to their truck (not just a can) & thousands of ants came pouring out of the porch. It was like a black cloud. This local company felt so bad that I had been duped by Orkin that he didnt even charge me. Orkin has taken me to a collections agency because I refuse to pay for a service I dont believe was rendered & I didnt give them a chance to send out a service manager to take care of the problem.

The management company called another pest control company fumigate the apartments. That is when I realized that Orkin had not been inside 8 of the 10 apartments in almost two years. I called the local office manager, Michael Long, the regional manager and Peter Youngpeter the VP of Client Services. Everyone passed the buck and made excuses. They were not, in the least bit, concerned that I was dissatisfied or that they had done a disservice. Eventually, they began to ignore my calls. I would not recommend Orkin to anyone!

Although I had no problem with the service or the technician. Unbeknownest to me, after the year was up the tech continued to service my home without informing me of the situation. I have been disabled since January 2006 living off disability insurance and my childrens benevolence. I have told Orkin of this situation and they are now threatening me with collection procedures. I have had a service agreement for pest control w/Orkin since 10/07. The agreement was for "Must call first - Saturdays only" (as I work during the week and needed to be home to provide access as there is a locked fence around my yard) every other month which is clearly noted on each ticket generated by Orkin. I have had nothing but problems with this service beginning in 3/08 as I have been billed for services that supposedly were provided during the day on a weekday when no one was home to provide access. I have called Orkin several times to complain and they have promised follow-up calls to schedule Saturday visits to provide the services that I had already been charged for but had not received. On 10/7/08 I once again noted a charge to my credit card for services not provided. I called Orkin and told them I had been through this with them too many times and wanted the charge removed and to cancel their service. The woman I spoke with in the National Office assured me the charge would be taken care of and she would have someone from the Orlando office follow up with me on my complaints. She also stated that it was noted in their records that I had several service issues documented. I spoke with Tracy from the Orlando office on 10/22 to explain once again that I wanted the charge credited back to my credit card and to cancel service. Tracy informed me that the charge was valid and that she had a service ticket from 9/08 with my signature on it. Since I knew no one had been to my house in September I immediately requested she fax a copy to me. The service ticket was dated 9/24, time noted was 3:50pm and someone signed my name under customer's signature. I called Tracy and explained that someone had forged my signature as I was working until 4:30pm that day; and told her I was absolutely livid that someone had forged my name. Tracy said she was going to refer this to her manager. On 11/23 I called Orkin once again and requested copies of all service tickets for my residence. I discovered 2 more dates during the day during the week with a forged signature, as well as 2 unsigned tickets again in the middle of the day on a weekday. In fact I only have copies of 3 tickets which I was home, on a Saturday, and signed for at the beginning of this contract. I received a call from John Gay, service manager, from Orkin who said he was willing to waive the fee for the 9/24 service call that never took place. Furthermore he could not understand why the alleged service calls took place during the week when the tickets clearly state "Must call first - Saturdays only". He also stated he could not understand why anyone would forge my signature as signatures mean nothing to them as many times customers are not home when service is provided. I explained that while signatures may mean nothing to him they certainly meant something to me when mine has been forged as this is absolutely illegal. Not only have they taken money from me for services not provided but have crossed an even more frightening line into forgery! When he continued to discuss that signatures were not needed as customers sign a contract initially I reminded him that when I spoke with Tracy she was validating the charge based on a service ticket with what she assumed was my signature. Therefore, if they are able to validate a charge based on a customer signature then certainly the customer can invalidate a charge which lacks a signature; and certainly invalidate a charge for blatant forgery. I also asked him if service was provided at a home with the resident there did the technician get the customers signature? He said yes. I told him my point was that I requested Saturdays only so that I could be there to provide access; in which case I would sign the service ticket. The first three visits were scheduled for Saturdays and my signature is on these tickets. I asked him to compare these signatures (as well as my signature on the contract) with these forged signatures. He said he would discuss this situation with his regional manager. I told him that I do plan on seeking legal advice as I am extremely upset with this situation.

I called the company to set up service. I was told over the phone by the employee that it would be 6 months total, once every other month. When the tech came he had a contract for me to sign but he gave me a story about how he was so busy and had a lot of other houses to get to so I felt bad and trusted the company would give me a contract that reflected what we spoke of over the phone. I was mistaken. I called to cancel the service(after the last one) and they told me I still had 3 more treatments totaling over 200 hundred dollars. I was livid.

I tried to explain what happened to the manager and he said there was nothing I could do about it anymore because they had my signature on file so I couldn't fight it. He also stated that it did not matter what the employee said to me because the contract stated other wise. That's fine but when not willing to work something out with the CUSTOMER over what untrained employee did thats just bad business. He also stated that the contract stated in black in white what the service was for, I told him it was fine print and long and he said it wasn't and sent me a copy of the contract which showed what the service was for in very, very fine print.

They were so unwilling to help. I called the company later that day to see if they could help with something and the employee hung up on me before I was done. The manager also continued to interrupt me and let me get my story out, like he didn't even want to hear it. I first call Orkin for services in August of 2007 due to complaints of mice I was getting from my tenants. I was offered a contract for multiple services which I denied and specifically stated I will call again if I need anymore services. Payments were made for the time in which I ordered services. Periodically, a technician will show up on my property to performed services. When no one answer the door, a yellow receipt left in front of my door stating perimeter service was performed and to call back for interior service.

I call the company and mentioned I no longer required or need anymore services and to stop sending technician on my property after that incident. In May of 2008 another technician show up on my property and my wife specifically told him we did not schedule any service and do not need service. The technician left and stated to call and scheduled an appointment if service needed. I have been receiving multiple calls and bills from Orkin for service they sated was done on May 31, 2008. I call Orkin to inform them of my frustration and unhappiness with the company action. I was told I had a contract and I need to honor it. I ask for a copy of the so call contract on many different occasions and I have yet to get a copy.

I scheduled service with Orkin only to receive a phone call an hour later stating that they needed to reschedule for an earlier time slot for the same day. I said okay, and chose another time slot. I contacted my tenant to apologize and notify that the schedule had changed. They worked out their schedule to accomodate the service visit.

Then I received another phone call from Orkin about an hour after that, to notify me that they needed to change the schedule again. They said they could come early in the AM on the same day, or I could choose 3 days later. I didn't want to make my tenants wait for an additional 3 days, so I told Orkin I would call them back and let them know.

I decided to schedule service with Terminix. They had a slot available for the same day. I called Orkin and told the agent that I had scheduled a service but I wanted to cancel. She hung up on me. I called a different number to get a different service center. They cancelled the service for me. I hope they don't decide to keep my debit card number...

This is NOT a complaint about Orkin--this is a THANK YOU for the complaint site that I was directed to, after clicking on an Orkin page. Thanks to that site, I will NOT be using Orkin. It appears that it is a rip-off outfit that only exists to take money from people and not provide the services that they promise. Worse--they run right over people, as witness the poor widow whose home was so infested after Orkin Care that she had to sell it at a huge loss. To her especially I say, I'm sorry for your loss--but thank you SO much for putting it online, as I was about to call Orkin for my roach problem. I now know better and will investigate other services--and do so with a VERY leery eye!

We hired Orkin to treat termites. They charged us $2390.00 to spray under the house and put bait monitors around the house. For two years they ocassionally checked the baiting and always said that since there was no activity there were no termites.

Less than four years later, we are replacing the floor in 2/3 of our house. The carpenter could easily put his pocket knife half way into the joists and flip it out to expose the live termites. The carpenter pointed out that there are no trenches around ANYTHING that goes from dirt to floor. David from Orkin came out and crawled under the house when only 1/2 of the flooring was demolished and said the damage was from water and that there were no termites. We pulled one out of the joist under which he entered.

Plus, when our contract was up, I called Orkin twice to have them pull up the bait monitors; they are still there. NOW they find it important to remove them. David was so very condescending to us. At first the lawyer said that the contract we signed wouldn't hold up with a jury because Orkin obviously didn't do their job. He has since said that the contract is binding. If you don't sign their contract, they won't do the job. This is a standard procedure for businesses.

We had to replace 2/3 of our floor, and we had to take a loan out for $30,000. Our family of eight was displaced from our home for more than a month.

Orkin was contacted to take care of a moth problem in my home, as well as wasp/bee problem outside and spray for ants around exterior of my home.

On May 2, 2008, the initial visit, they came to service my home. Their solution to the moth problem inside the house was to leave one SMALL glue trap inside the cabinet under the kitchen sink and two SMALL glue traps on the garage floor where the garage door opens. Apparently, they sparayed the perimeter of the house to repel any ants and sprayed for wasps/bees.

There were never any moths in the SMALL glue traps that they left. When I would see a moth in the kitchen, I would grab the one glue trap left under the kitchen sink and attempt to catch the moth in the glue trap. This is the only way I could eliminate a moth if I saw one. The moth would never go into the glue trap on its own.

About two weeks later I called and told them I still had moths and that their SMALL glue traps were of no help. They said they would send a service man out; however, they could not give me a time when he would arrive--therefore, an all day sit and wait thing.

When the service man did come, all he did was replace the one SMALL glue trap under the kitchen sink with two larger sized glue traps.

My complaint is: I paid $294.25 for a service that is not working when it comes to my moth problem. When the service man was here and replaced the small glue trap with two larger ones, he commented that this was all they had, they were out of the larger glue traps. He took the small ones back with him. (I would have thought Orkin would have put glue traps in each room in the upstairs of the house where moths had been spotted.)

And..the service person who came back to replace the SMALL glue traps for the moths with larger ones informed us that the small ones were not the ones that should have been put in the house, that they aren't normally used in that manner and he didn't know why they were put in.

On June 6, 2008, I called to complain about the amount I had paid for such little service and spoke with a person named Jeff. He told me that I had purchased a one time service that only carried a 30 day guarantee and my service time was up. He said Orkin recommends treatment every other month at a fee of $76. Their yearly fee is $700. I feel their charges are exorbitant and that they charge a high initial fee in case people do not continue their bi-monthly service.

I am very dissatisfied and, in my opinion, Orkin does not provide quality service for the fees they charge.

Unfortunately, it wasn't until after Orkin came to my home did I find a previous receipt from service I had from Terminix in prior years and later contacted them to find out their current service costs. Terminix provides about double the service for almost half the cost.

I will never deal with Orkin again.

On May 15, 2008 I contacted Orkin Pest Control via of telephone, talked with the Manager, Steve. At this time I shared with him my disappointment and verification that the monthly service to the above address had been neglected. I wished to terminate the contract. Fact finding mission: On May 13th it was discovered that the phone line was not working at the above address and it was found to be the result of a mouse, chewing the phone cord. Also it was apparent that traps for bugs and spiders were not being changed regularly. Dodson Pest Control (a competitor) was contacted.

As a result of Dodson's initial inspection (on May 15th) it was found that the residence was infected with spiders (3 varieties, silverfish, mice, and other typical household bugs). A minimum of 3 to 4 months of treatment would be needed to just rid the home of spiders--primary focus of treatment at this time.

Having been appalled and felt like being taken advantage, I called Orkin (same day). Steve was more than willing to go to residence on May 15 to begin treatment and offered to continue doing so at no additional cost to me. I declined Steve's offer. Later I found where Orkin had been at the residence on May 20th to treat and a bill left for the monthly fee of $36. I called Orkin again and told them I was not going to pay for the April or May treatment and from the May 15th call (with Steve) and final call on May 22 or 23rd (Trina) it was agreed that I did not owe Orkin anything.

Would I recommend Orkin to anyone in the future? NO! It is evident that unless in residence at the property year round when service can be monitored, Orkin can not be trusted to deliver. Sad, thinking back, Orkin as contacted in the Spring of 2003 and it was felt that Orkin was appropriate for the job, we were confident and agreed to the terms worked out for monthly treatment, etc. Neighbors who assist family in overseeing residence have informed me several times that the service technician would go into house, spray around front door and leave within minutes upon arrival, indicating to me that service was being neglected.

It was apparent that traps for bugs not changed regularly. Lessons learned the hard and costly way. Thus, business taken elsewhere--initial treatment $125 plus a monthly service fee. Something I personally felt shouldn't have been had Orkin been doing what was expected, contracted and required.

The purpose of this letter is to notify ORKIN in writing the termination of contract and to express the disappointment in service and billing. Payment for April and May 2008 should be void, account closed (if not all ready done so). Would six months of reimbursement of services be helpful? YES, money would be used to pay Dodson. On a positive note, when talking with Steve and Trina both have been most professional. But does not solve problem at hand. I had contacted Orkin in the past questioning the service and this last event was the icing on the cake.

They informed me that I could cancel at that time, but would be responsible for the next schedules service on 1/7/08. (Which I understood).

We sold our house and bought a new home on 1/25/08. Much to my surprise, I recieved a charge on my credit card for a so called service that was provided on 3/28/08. However, the response from Orkin.com customer service was rude and unresponsive. When they initially responded to me they even referred to me as a female, even though my name is most definitely a male name. When I complained about the rude and arrogant response, their action was to completely ignore me.

I was only reminded of this because I received a call today asking when they could come by and do my annual termite inspection. The local office, to include the manager, has always been very courteous and easy to work with. The manager had me forward a copy of the message, which he then forwarded to his regional manager. He stated that he did not know they failed to respond. I informed him that I would no longer do business with Orkin, even though he graciously offered an apology in behalf of his company.

It is a shame that a local office that is attempting to build up good will and do a good job has to suffer from arrogance and rude behavior by their parent company, but I do not intend to tolerate it.
