I have been a loyal customer to Moni Security for 7 years. I didn't sign up for Brinks when it switched over. I couldn't afford the extra expense of a security alarm. I called customer service and was on hold for hours. I never got to talk to anyone until days later. Always with a long wait time to talk to customer service. The rep kept pushing not to cancel. All I want to do it cancel my service and I felt like their company didn't respect that. I cannot afford to have this expense and I do not want the service anymore. Why couldn't they respect when a customer says no for whatever reason should be enough.

I live in New York and I had my car broken into so I try to be more safe and I got a home security system. I got Brinks for the good cost of the overall system and the monitor cost. I also had positive interactions with the representatives who had good knowledge about the Brinks product. Other than I still have to put in the video cameras, the installation was fine and easy. The features of the system work and the quality of the security equipment is good. The functionality and performance of the smartphone features have been good as well.

This is the worst security company that I have ever had. They never call when the alarm goes off. They just dispatch fire, police without even consulting with the homeowner. I miss my Monitronics which was a fabulous company that I had for 10 years and now that Brinks has bought them my service is terrible. They have rude customer service representatives and when I had a break in 15 years ago they did not dispatch the police. I want out of my contract but they will not let me out. I signed up with Monitronics, not Brinks, this sucks.

I’ve had Guardian for several years and the service was good but Brinks was a little bit more affordable. Also, I wanted to try something different so I switched to them. Initially, my experience was good but there were a couple of times where things were either miscommunicated or misquoted. The information was not accurate so that was a bit frustrating. But overall, interacting with their reps was fair. For the most part, the communication has been better. They were able to find me someone that could resolve the couple issues that I had and they tried very much to keep me satisfied.
I’m not very tech savvy so I thought that the installation would be a little bit more difficult, but surprisingly, it was not. The rep walked me through and I was able to set up everything with the exception of the doorbell camera. It was more of the way the old doorbell was set up. I like the system and it’s easy to navigate. I was able teach my children how to use it with little to no difficulty.
Tara,Being able to rely on and trust your security provider, is a very important aspect when it comes to a security company. I am overjoyed to know that we have been able to live up to your expectations. I signed up with MONI 3 years ago only to get locked into this pathetic 5yr contract that they will not budge or alter, and obviously the company has now been taken over by Brinks. I pay $55 a month for hardwired basic service that they will NOT upgrade into today’s world aka cameras, locks, doorbells etc without charging me more money!!! If I were you I would go with any other security company that will give you all this stuff for free and you pay LESS monthly. The least they could do is lower my monthly bill if they’re going to keep me trapped into a basic contract. I hope they feel good about stealing my money every month with nothing in return.

I signed up with Brinks 4 years ago with a 5 year contract! I called to inquiry about cancelling it the contract with 10 months to go. I haven't used it in years. Without paying it off, I had no choices. Horrible customer service. They were no help. I'm an Arizona teacher and $59 a month that I'm paying a month to Brinks would go a long way in feeding my kids. Brinks has no heart. Look elsewhere for your security services.

We had a security system and we replaced it with Brinks. Brinks has been good but the only downside is that there are some features in our old system that their system doesn’t work with. Like for instance, the smoke detector system that wasn’t able to pair with their system. We upgraded the exterior but the interior went down because we don’t have the smoke detector.
When I spoke with the agent, he said, “No problem. You can purchase anyone,” but when I contacted the person she hasn’t replied back to me. She was very insistent when she wanted to sell me the system, calling me all the time. Before she would always answer my phone calls and emails and then completely now, nobody called me. But the installation went good. The installation team knew their business. We have the doorbell and also the indoor camera. They are new in our system. Everything works perfect except the smoke detector. I love that I can control everything with my phone. It also has a very good price.

I'm getting broke into all the time. I went online, saw Brinks, and went for it. The sales was great. But all of it was not exactly up to par like what they said it was. The guy did not tell me how high-tech the new motion sensors are. You have to be in there because the sensors have to sense the heat if somebody is moving. You could walk right past the sensors if you want to if you take your time. I was misled there.
I did the installation and Brinks helped me over the phone. I also like the features. I like that I can do it with my phone and I can set it in case I forgot to it or it automatically turns off once I come pulling in my driveway. I can also check the history through the smartphone features. I use the smartphone features all the time. But, then, when I called the tech, I asked for two other sensors and the rep never sent them to me. Also, there was something that happened with these sensors that was not right because I've been hit a couple of times and it just showed up a bypass. And I went looking around and I can see someone has been here -- it's a family thing. It's an inheritance deal which is a weird one because of the fact that the police won't do anything over it. So it's frustrating and they know they're far enough out here, that it's gonna take the police a long time to get here anyway.

BRINKS is the worst company I had to ever dealt with. Had the hardest time to cancel my account. What company takes 30 days to cancel an account. Brinks say it takes 30 days so just in case the customer might change their mind to come back. If a customer want to cancel their account there is a good reason behind it and not want to come back. To cancel an account they dont take your word over the phone. They need to send you a form that takes 3 to 4 days to email it to you. Once you get the email it only gives you an x amount of hours to get it back to them if not the form is no longer valid. So you constantly have to check your email to see if you got it. Mind you it's not even from Brinks. It's from a 3rd party company which they dont even tell you. Calling customer service you are on hold for over an hour.
It's like that commercial with the lady calling her security system company because her house was broken into and when they finally get on the line the representatives says, "Sorry wrong department I will transfer you." That commercial must have been made regarding Brinks. I am glad I no longer have Brinks. I wished I did not waste my money or time having this company. If you search security system Brinks is not even on the top 10 list. Now I know why. I am so glad that my house has never been broken into. I dont think Brinks would have dispatched the call to the police station.
I hope this helps someone when looking for a security system to purchase. No wonder they have people going door knocking to see if the homeowner would like to sign up with their company. That should have been a red flag for me but I was a new homeowner and thought it was going to be good. Boy was I wrong. Bottom line STAY AWAY. There are better systems out there less expensive and services are better. Not money hungry like Brinks. I won't be surprise if they go out of business soon. Thank you for reading and I hope this helps someone.

So Jacob's idea of resolving this issue is to continue to make harassing phone calls several times a day all week long. They finally won out and build my credit card anyway. I'm so done with this company.
Original review: I have had my security system for over 10 years. I didn't buy or sign up with Brinks but they bought our original service. We had no contract with Brinks. We have been on auto pay and after seeing our last bill I decided it's time to move on. I spent 2 hours on the phone trying to get the service rep to cancel my service. He wouldn't quit pushing until I got irritated enough to ask for his manager. Then I get this "It takes 30 days to process your request and we'll continue to bill you" **! I did not sign an agreement with Brinks and I surely wouldn't agree to paying for an extra month after I cancelled service. 4 days ago I receive a call and was told my service was canceled and I owed no money. Today I get a call and was informed they just billed me another 33 dollars! I informed the person I was told I had a zero balance and would not pay any more. She threatened to turn me over to collections! I'm pissed! Brinks can go pound sand!

Our alarm company was Monitronics since 2002. Recently changed to Brinks. Never happy with Monitronics. Contacted Brinks for terms of contract cancellation. Told we would owe current and one month past and our service was done. Several contacts and they say we extended our contract by 60 months. We did not. It was offered and we refused. Another contact said the same thing. Told him we did not agree to a 60 month contract. Offered several things to which I profoundly said no to each one offered. It appeared he accepted this and gave me an dollar amount of $63.40. I paid this by check and mailed it to Brinks Certified. It was my clear understanding that this was the payment amount ended the contract. They will not accept it. Their system is gone from our home and we do not want anything to do with Brinks. At this point I am going to explore all avenues of filing formal complaints.

I always wanted a security system and I liked the deal that Brinks was offering with the equipment. All their reps have been really good and a couple of people have been quite friendlier than others. Installing the system was easy. However, I wanted the indoor camera to act as a motion sensor, as far as being able to set up the alarm, but it doesn’t do that. Also, I need to call Brinks because the front doorbell doesn’t work right. When you press the button, it is like having a normal doorbell and when somebody holds the button down it makes regular noise. When you push it down, it sounds like it’s still trying to do the second ring and then it does that for about 10 seconds. But the system seems easy to program. I was able to change different notifications.

Brinks was too expensive. I started getting a whole bunch of telemarketing calls after I originally got their service to try for free for 30 days. There were a couple of companies that had the same exact amount, the same exact type of service, but 10 to $15 cheaper, and money is everything. I have to budget myself and make sure that I could afford to protect my home that's the reason why I cancelled and I have yet to mail the equipment. They took my payment out after that.
The customer service was terrible. I was transferred nine times and every time, I got transferred to someone in India. These people have such a thick accent and don't even care about helping the customer. They hung up on me three times and it just made matters worse. They couldn't pull up my account and it was just upsetting. So, bring America's dream job back to our country. Otherwise, the sales representative was okay and professional. The quality and functionality of the system were excellent as well. I would recommend Brinks.

After nearly seven years my sister attempted to cancel her monitored Brinks account. The reason doesn't matter, she just decided to go a different route for home security. This is not a review of Brinks' Security Systems hardware and operability, just their Customer Service. When my sister initially contacted Brinks to drop their service, the Customer Service rep she spoke with said that they would email her a form which she then had to 'docu-sign' online and return, which she did.
They called her back a few days later and somehow enticed my sister to verbally 'rejoin' at a slightly lowered rate. She was confused, and said she needed to talk with me (her brother) first to decide what to do... Somehow the agent she was speaking with took this as an 'OK' and re-signed her up for the Brinks monitored service. It was after this, and noting the unauthorized debits to her checking account that she contacted me for assistance.
On 11/26/18 I set up a three way call with myself, my sister, and Brinks customer service. The Brinks automated answering system said we could expect an agent to come on the phone in about 10 minutes... 22 minutes later a representative answered and we explained the situation noted above. The Brinks customer rep said that they would have to re-send the cancellation letter and start the process over again, which would take 30 days to complete, with Brinks withdrawing yet another monthly fee even though we were adamant that my sister did not want this service.
I thanked this customer service agent for her time and asked to be transferred to a supervisor. It took another 20+ minutes waiting on the phone, with incessant admonitions to visit the Brinks website, or text them, interspersed with very tinny sounding out of date hold music, before someone else came on the line. We were now connected with 'Gary' in 'Customer Loyalty' who went through his pitch about what a great a deal my sister was getting in terms of a rate and thanking her for her several years as a customer. He wanted to know what Brinks could do to retain her as a customer, wanted her to take a short survey of service, and basically would not take 'no' for an answer.
Gary asked repeatedly why my sister wanted to discontinue service and what she was now using for a security service. Both questions, in our opinion, which should not have been asked. When a customer unequivocally states that they wish to discontinue service, there should be no further questioning of that decision. To wrap this up... Gary stated that it was Brink's 'protocol' to require a 'customer' (even one who had just cancelled service and was then duped into re-signing up) to perform a 'docu-signing' of an emailed form stating that you wish to cancel, after which they will take 30 days to 'process' your cancellation and charge you yet another month of fees for a service you do not want. (Bear in mind that they will take a verbal utterance you've made over the phone to lock you into a contract.)
A point to consider if you do sign with Brinks... Go with a credit card, with which it is much easier to dispute and reverse fraudulent charges. My sister had an auto draft from her checking account and we will now have to file a 'written statement of unauthorized debit' in order to recoup this fraudulent draft on her account. Again, please note that this is not a review of Brinks' Security Systems hardware and basic services, but solely their Customer Service with regards to cancelling an account.
John,We are sorry to hear of the troublesome time you had when calling to cancel your services, please know that we never like to hear when a customer is parting ways with us. I would like to say that I had hoped that I would be able to say this company was the best ever but no such luck. I have lived in my residence for over 12 years and I have had a home security system since I bought the house but Brinks was not the original alarm company. I moved to them from another company after the original company started to quietly raise my monthly bill with no notice.
At first when I moved to Brinks they performed like I expected except the company I signed my contract with was called MONITRONICS at the time. No idea when the change occurred but MONITRONICS either went under or was bought out quietly no idea which and it went to Brinks, I didn't even know it at the time. My bill was still auto deducted at the same price. It should be noted that my contract with Monitronics had expired and I was going month to month with no contract for several years before Monitronics went away and Brinks took over.
Jump forward a few years and the alarm system started to have issues. I called Monitronics to see if they would fix the issues and I would sign a new contract. This is when I discovered that Brinks was now the name for the company providing security for my home. When I asked if they would repair or upgrade my system I was informed that they would not upgrade the system or fix the issues which had started to plague my security system. These issues included window alarms not functioning and door alarms going off at all hours of the day and night without cause. I was told to contact a private contractor company to see what they would offer but Brinks was going to charge hundreds of dollars to fix the hardware which had failed, not a failure through any fault of my own doing.
After calling several times and getting no real assistance I decided to cancel the account and save the monthly fee, as the system was no longer reliable and I could no longer set the alarm to guard my family. This is when all my major issues started to come to the forefront. When I called Brinks to cancel the account you would think I was attempting to abduct their account numbers and passwords. The number of hoops I had to jump through seemed never ending. I had to be pushed through several people, I had to wait for an email which I then had to fill out again requesting permission to cancel my account. I was informed that the email they sent me would expire in an extremely limited amount of time (I believe seven days), and if I allowed the email to expire, I would have to begin the entire process over again.
I couldn't get Brinks technicians to come out to my home and return my system to a functioning alarm system again (I was even willing to upgrade the system and pay for those upgrades, and possibly increased monthly premiums for increased services) and now I have to literally ask for permission from them to have them stop deducting money from my account and cancel the service even though it hasn't had an extended contract for a few years. If they had been this diligent with me when I called to upgrade and fixed the security system I would have stayed with them.
So this sad tale doesn’t stop when I complete the email and send them my request to cancel the service. I wait for weeks before I receive an answer. Which is a short message telling me that the service has been canceled, however due to the time delay in the alarm monitoring cacellation, there are additional monies due and owing. They have also included a bill for roughly $21 dollars. I look at the bill unsure why there is one, due to the fact that I was up to date from electronic auto payments and I had verbally and through email of all things requested that my account be closed about a month prior. Confused but believing that this was a mistake I called them.
Once I was on the phone with a “customer service” technician I was informed that the bill was accurate. When I asked why I was informed that it had taken them over 30 days to cancel the contract. Due to this time delay it crossed into a new billing cycle which I would have to pay. I was floored, I felt that I was in a bad 80s movie with a kid demanding $2 dollars everywhere I went. I attempted to use logic to no avail. I informed that even though it was a small amount and unfortunately legal it still didn't make it right. How many people across the U.S. Have they done this to and got away with it. I was informed that it took 30 days for the request to move through all the departments to verify that it was canceled. I asked them how this was even possible. In 2018 with all the modern technology at every company’s disposal and it took them 30 days to process what should have simply been a small keystroke.
By this time I had worked my way up the management chain and I was informed that is not how the system works. She used the example of student loans of all things to saying that it would take up to 30 days for the lenders to cancel or adjust a loan. I may have laughed on the phone line for several reasons. One I had not taken a loan and two, even through I may be old I fell into the student loan trap when I was young and I am still paying them.
I can access them on my phone and adjust, stop, cancel and other wise manage them all while seated on my couch slowly turning through the hundreds of useless TV channels that I have access to through modern technology, and if I get bored I can access YouTube, Facebook, Amazon Prime through my TV, and cell phone. Of course unlike Brinks if I suddenly decide to cancel all of my accounts I can grab my cell and stop each and every one even those which I pay right there no hassle, no fuss, and I wont be threatened with legal action and damage to my credit if I don't pay immediately.
For everyone who has slogged through this monologue, just think about something. Our residence or business are the most important assets that we have. When I go to work I want to know that my family is safe and so if my property. I want to know that the most high tech tools are used and the people who use them have the best tech to assist them when I am in need.
Having said that now think about the conversation I had with a supervisor when she explained that it takes 30 days to work through the system. I call bullshit, unless they are using 1970 or 1980s tech to guard my home, then that is a crock and if they are then find another security service to guard your home and property because they are way behind and not competitive.
If the above paragraph is not the issue then then do it to make a little extra cash because it is only 20ish dollars. We all spend that at Chipotle’s for a burrito and a drink. To add insult to injury, I never had a contract with Brinks. My agreement was with Monitronics, and I never agreed to an extended cancellation period that Brinks decided to take.
After explaining my issue with what they did and why even though it isn’t illegal it is unethical and basically being told to pound sand I started to receive phone calls every day at all times of the day demanding money. To the point that it became simple harassment I finally had to block multiple numbers just to stop the continual calls. Now I am going to pay the bill, I am not happy about it but I have no choice. So my advice don’t use them. Go to Best Buy, Amazon, etc... otherwise when you decide to change service have fun because I did

I was a customer of Monitronics since 2001. Brinks took over this company in the past year. On June 20, 2018 I called Brinks to cancel my services by providing my name, address and the private security code that only I would know. I did my part but for some reason they didn’t cancel it. On 11-24-2018 I receive a bill that my account is behind in payments and I owed $67.84. I called in and was told - "Sorry your services were never canceled as you didn’t fill out detail required by a certain date." Therefore account is still open? Are you kidding me. I called and canceled and the customer service person confirmed they were canceling my account. I sold my house and moved out of state.
The customer service person told me they cannot verbally cancel my services. She also told me she would have to transfer me to another department that will handle this matter and it still not resolved yet. I did advise her that hurricane Michael did come in to the Florida Panhandle and there are lots of damage with this area where the house was located and they did not have phone service or power in the area for more than 30 days. And they could not have provided the service for this area. She told me that I was still responsible for this bill. I told her that I have been gone from the area more than 3 months that I left the area back in June and did not get a bill until November. This sounds like a typical case of fraud.

I was looking for a quality service that does the call back and monitors actively and Brinks' name was a big portion why I ended up going with them. I had the same system at a rental and I wanted to continue using it when we built our house. So far, Brinks hasn't started monitoring the system yet. I'm using a 2GIG system and they haven't been technically very professionally sound and that has become a major issue for me. Technically, I haven't completed the activation process and I'm now looking at other companies to go through.
I signed up with Brinks, told them the system I'm using and they said they could monitor my system. I paid $100 to get a communicator sent to me, then the communicator they sent to me was wrong. I took a picture of it, sent it to Brinks, and they said, “Unfortunately, you have to get a new panel because we can't monitor.” And then, it took me to describe the proper device I thought I needed, and then they sent me a link from Amazon to buy that device. And now, I still have this $100 communicator I bought that doesn’t work in my system. I'm still waiting on an email from them to return it to them. It seems like they don’t know a lot about the security systems. So, I'm looking at Alarm.com or Alarm Good to monitor as well.
I feel like I'm talking three-way. I'd be talking to the sales rep and then they'd put me on hold, and they'd talk to the technician, and then they'd relay what they said, and then I'd give a bit more information, and I'd get put on hold again, and they'd talk to the technician. It has been a hassle. It would be helpful if I was able to talk to the technician that they're talking to. I'm already sold, I already signed up for it, I just need to know what I need and don’t need. I would have to tell my friends to use a different service and maybe that will change once I get set-up. I went with them for the monitoring, not for their knowledge of my system. I don’t expect them to know my system perfectly. I used to be in sales so I understand that they don’t know it. It just seems a very disorganized company, which makes me stand back.

My niece’s husband was able to hook my Brinks system up and put everything in the right place. He kinda knew how to do it and then when I called Brinks, they just walked me through it. It’s 100 bucks for cameras and motion detectors, and the price is about the same as ADT so I think it’s fine.

We utilized Monitronics/Brinks Home Security for 17 years in 3 different states, so we were long time, excellent paying customers. On June 20, 2018, my husband notified Brinks to shut off our account because our home was sold and we were moving - great until Saturday November 24, 2018, when we received a bill to include late charges. They reinstalled our system Oct. 5th - keep in mind we don’t/haven’t lived there. In fact we live in a totally different state and don’t have a system.
Furthermore, Hurricane Michael hit the panhandle (where our home was), and they didn’t have phone or electric service for over a month and may still not have phone service which would be required. How can you be billed when you don’t live there & there’s no phone or electricity - you’ll have to ask them because that’s where FRUSTRATING/UNBELIEVABLE/SCAMMERS comes in. You can’t get this resolved, don’t get responses they promise, but they can sure beat around the bush. They can e-mail, text or call you, but they can’t receive any of the above -BOGUS!!! I would not recommend them for dog catcher.

I had MONI prior to it being Brinks and I wasn’t too satisfied with their service. Unfortunately, I'm locked into a contract. The system wasn’t working properly and any time I called to get something addressed, a new problem arose. When I tried to address the issue, it either got ignored or thrown under the table. That happened several times until I finally spoke to someone and he fixed one of the issues, but everything seems to be straight now. I don’t want the system in general, but that is the contract. So, I'm seeing it out.
We had just moved into the house and the salesman rolled by and sold us the Brinks Home Security. I work odd shifts, so it was a good idea at the time. The salesman that sold me the system was very nice and very pleasant. When he presented the five-year contract, I asked him if I wanted to cancel, what would the price be, because I'm sure with everything, there's a price. He told me a different amount and when I went to cancel it, I was under the impression that it was gonna be that amount. I was told that it is not accurate and that I would have to pay 80% of whatever the rest of the contract was. I told the customer service rep, “Hey, this guy told me this,” their rep said, “Well, unless you got it in writing, he pretty much had it locked.”
I got the basic equipment and for the amount I'm paying, I could be getting a lot more. When I went back and looked online to see what the promotions are, I'm paying the top-of-the-line price for the lowest amount of equipment. They thought I don’t know, but I know. I would tell others not to go with Brinks unless there's a better offer. Brinks' process was very simple, but once you get past all the, press this for this and press that for that, and then you start talking to middle managers, it's okay, but the lower tier customer service needs to be worked on a little bit.

If I could give this company zero stars, I definitely would. Not only does my system not work, it has caused damage to my front door and even locked us out of the house. The problems started immediately, though it took us some time before we actually realized there was a problem. We had been using the system for months and experienced more and more trouble with the front lock jamming the door. This problem intensified until it actually locked us out of the house at midnight with a car full of groceries. We had to hire a locksmith to break us into our house immediately since our new puppy was locked inside. We contacted the company but were told that it was an issue with our door not their installation. We replaced the door handle. It continued to jam and damaged the doorframe.
In addition, several months after the initial installation we stopped using the system at all because we failed to disarm it in time (my son has clumsy fingers) and NOTHING HAPPENED. That's right, we didn't disarm, the time ran out on the clock, and nothing. No alarm. No call to the police. Nothing. So I guess it is a good thing it was just my 7-year-old missing a key and not an actual burglary. We tested this several times and each time, nothing happened. I called customer service and told them I was frustrated and wanted to cancel my services. They referred me to another branch designed to keep me from canceling. I had already paid for almost a full year of services, paid for a new door handle, incurred damage to my door frame, and recently discovered that the thing didn't work anyway.
I was told that they could not refund me because I hadn't called sooner (I guess kiddo should have missed that key the first day we installed it). And that in order to cancel my services I would have my hardware removed but still be charged the full amount detailed in the original contract, a total of some $3,000 dollars. Their reason? "Well, ma'am, you did sign a 5 year contract." They offered to send out a tech and I agreed reluctantly. The tech never showed up and I didn't receive any email or text confirmation as I had the first time. Months later, I contacted them AGAIN via the online chat option. They have offered to send out a tech and claim to have no knowledge of the contract or cancellation procedures and referred me to the same department I had contacted months earlier. Save yourself time, money, and frustration... Go with someone else. Brinks stinks.

But next time, I would want a technician to come out and do it. The doorbell camera was the one that I was really afraid to do. Dealing with wires was my main concern. But their rep sent me a video on how to do it and I saw it was really easy. The only thing that I didn't like was I wasn't told that I will have the money subtracted from my account. But their rep removed my card so I can actually pay it myself month to month. That was nice on their end. If my monitoring price stayed the way it is, I'd be happy. Updated on 12/19/2018: I made a complaint in Nov. Brinks posted underneath my complaint how sorry they were and they would be on contact. Post also had a header that this problem(s) was being resolved. REALLY?? Again, TERRIBLE CS! Nobody has reached out to us.This company just cannot get it together. Of all our problems that we have continually had with them, it's a FIGHT! They SAY it's fixed, but it never is...and that's after we speak to AT LEAST 5 people all with different reasons and resolutions. WHO IS ONE TO BELIEVE??? They have told us we are a PRIORITY and that when our alarm goes off, they would be on our panel within 20 seconds. YEP, that happened for about 2 months MAX!
When we moved they told us we had to register with the town that was our PREVIOUS ADDRESS, after telling them a multitude of times that we no longer live there. We told them where we NOW live and they told us we must register with them. Well our town doesn't REQUIRE that. BRINKS INSISTED it MUST BE DONE or they couldn't dispatch emergency vehicles. Well we got THAT resolved...OR SO WE THOUGHT. WE couldn't register. Brinks still couldn't assure us that we would be secure in an emergency! Then stop taking our money! Mind you, we spoke to AT LEAST 6-10 people all with different answers/reasons/resolves.
I HOPE WE ARE COVERED because they are having no problems taking our money. They never come thru on our panel in an alarm REGARDLESS of incident, be it an accidental set off etc, as promised, AND nobody has called to resolve ANYTHING on my post in Nov. This company is SORRY and I will continue to post until we are assured of resolve or we discontinue our service. Just because they reply to this complaint underneath, does NOT mean it is IN THE PROCESS IF BEING RESOLVED. IT'S NOT. Think twice before purchasing their service!
Original Review: We have recently moved. These people cannot get it straight. We have been thru AT LEAST A DOZEN people, each with a different story. We are being monitored, we aren't being monitored. We are/aren't monitored but nobody will be dispatched in an emergency. SO MANY MORE ISSUES! Everybody has a different story. We don't know WHO TO BELIEVE. When our LIVEWATCH was switched to BRINKS, it has been ALL confusion. The amount of time we have spent on the phone with them, THEY SHOULD BE PAYING US! The CS people are so rude and impatient because they cannot confirm anything. They cannot fix their own problems. STAY AWAY FROM BRINKS!!!

I really don’t like Brinks at all. This is the first house we ever bought and I have two small children. I really wanted to make sure my house is sealed tight and has the best security. But it’s been a disaster. I got Brinks Home Security system and they charged my card twice, I had to get a refund. And then, they forgot to send me one of my sensors. They ended up charging me for my sensor which was so expensive. They are the ones who forgot it and they charged me for it. And then, my sensor in the living room sometimes works and sometimes it doesn’t. So, whenever I set my alarm, it always sets my alarm off. So, I had to set it as “I’m home” rather than “Away.” I called them and no one has called me back about it.
I've called them one time about the sensor. And then, when I had to get the sensor for my front doors, I told them I needed it and that I purchased it. They would tell me they would overnight it. I waited three days and I still didn’t have it. When I called them, they said that something happened and that it got declined. They didn’t even call me about it. I had to give them my card number again and I had to wait another three days. I finally got the sensor, but it was supposed to be overnighted and I ended up waiting a whole week for it.
Their reps put you on hold for a really long time and I feel like they only help you if you consistently call. Now, I’m dreading calling them about the motion sensor in my living room. I want a brand new sensor because when I got this sensor, it has a black stuff marked on the top. I honestly didn’t care because I thought it was just from the box. But now that the sensor doesn’t work, it was obviously damaged. They wanna troubleshoot and I don’t wanna go through all that. I just want to get a new sensor.
So far, nobody has come out to my home and do it. I did it myself. Growing up, I had Brinks so I can install it. I always reset the alarm and if the alarm is ever triggered, the cops were there fast. Now, they text you. I don’t need them to text me. I just want a quick response. I want the cops there because there’s someone sneaking in my house. If I could do everything all over again, I would have gone with Vivint Security. I like their system better and they have better quality. Brinks' monitor is very cheap and I really don’t like it. I have been debating on calling and returning it but I’m past my 30 days so I can’t return it. Nonetheless, the girl who set me up with Brinks and the girl who I spoke with on the phone who did the install and checked the monitors were both great.

I just moved into my first house and got Brinks as my security system. The installation went well and it was fairly simple. I did it myself. I had pretty much everything already set up, and the guy from Brinks went through with it pretty smooth, and it was clear. The system has nice features. When I get a little bit more time, I need to call and add a couple more features on it like the Bluetooth. There’s a thing where if you walk in with your Bluetooth on, the sensor will sense your phone and it'll automatically disarm the system without me having to do anything. The system has been good, so far. It works well.

They informed me that there may be a slight upcharge but that they could accommodate that request at any time. Fast forward to now, post-Brinks acquisition, when I am being told that I will have to cancel my existing contract and pay 1000 dollars in order to switch to the Nest equipment that works better with the rest of my home automation set up. When I asked to cancel everything they informed me I couldn't do that over the phone and would need to write a letter stating my desire to cancel. What is this, 1985? Original Review: I tried to cancel my Brinks service yesterday and was told that per their company policy and my agreement it won't be cancelled for 30 days. Brinks assumed my Livewatch account when they bought them out earlier this year. I never signed any new agreement with Brinks. My agreement with Livewatch stated that I can cancel service anytime without penalty or fees. I have this in writing. Extending my service 30 more days incurs another monthly service charge which I refuse to pay. I've attempted to contact the Brinks representative (Weslon **) several times to resolve this but he refuses to respond. I've notified my Credit card issuer to refuse payment on future authorizations until this is resolved.

I purchased my alarm system with a installer in Southern California. For the year that I was under their warranty I was happy. Years 2 and 3 I dealt with Brinks and the support was not acceptable. I had an issue with my motion detectors and the customer service agent had no urgency to help me resolve the issue. We were disconnected during the call and you would think I would have gotten a callback but I didn't. I had to call back and wait to speak to someone again. I ended up researching my issue online and fixed the problem. You would think a home security company would want to make you feel safe...not this one. We left the state due to reasons out of our control (our second child was born deaf and we needed better resources for him) and Brinks is making no accommodations to extend our hold period (temporarily in an apartment) or even transfer the remaining contract to another family member.

The rep was really nice and personable, asking about family while we were waiting on stuff. She kept the conversation, which was nice.
However, the setup over the phone is flawed. I was on the phone for two hours because the rep was having some issues and she seemed new, which is not a big deal. It just took a really long time to get everything set up. I liked having someone just come over, set the system up and show me how to use the panel and be done with the whole process. I had to do it myself. But that's my only complaint. Brinks Home Security is an affordable system to have. It's nice and easy to use. Our contract was bought by Brinks in January 2018. Our house is in Magalia, Ca. On November 8, 2018, the most destructive fire in California history, the Camp Fire, devastated our town. Our home was affected in this disaster. We contacted Brinks to notify them that we would need to cancel or suspend our service due to the fire. We were told that we would have to pay out the remainder of our contract to cancel. This was basically a slap in the face, and adding insult to injury over our losses from the fire. We had several other contracts with various service providers, from cable and internet, to utility and service contracts for maintenance and routine care on our home.
Not one single other provider gave us any issues about canceling and were extremely sympathetic to our situation. Not Brinks. They proved to be low down scum over the situation and only cared about the remaining $966 on the contract. This is after it took them 2 different installers 3 separate attempts to even install our system. And, the system that was forced upon us was not the system in the original contract. To the last day the system was in operation at our home, it never even functioned to the supposed capability we were told it would. Horrible company. I'd stay away from them if I could do it all over or if I would have known my contract was going to be purchased by Brinks. Besides having to talk to three departments and explain why I was canceling was fairly straightforward. They sent me a cancelation contract that was future dated by a month. I responded and asked for a correction. No response.
Called back in today and asked about status and why it was future dated. They said their process took that long to cancel and I would have to pay for another month while I wait for their cancelation process. Asked to speak to supervisor and was informed they wouldn’t do anything and would tell me the same thing. Insisted and was informed the longer I wait to sign the more they will keep post dating my cancel. Finally was told a supervisor would call me back. I can’t believe in this day and age a company could do this. Still not resolved and waiting to hear back.

I needed a home security system and chose Brinks over ADT because ADT was so rude. The reps at Brinks have been wonderful and their system works. My sense of security is much better now. I did the installation myself and it was very easy to do. I would highly recommend Brinks to others.

Brinks had great stuff in the service deal. I have the basic service package and if the alarm triggers, they call in a timely manner. The installation went well. Although the rep didn't come to my home, he was on the phone while I did the installation. It wasn't difficult. Overall, I was very satisfied with the features of my package. It is a good service.

There was a time when my house was broken into four times in a week. So, I got a home security system from Brinks thinking that it would be fast and easy. However, sometimes fast and easy isn’t the way to go. I had a system prior to Brinks and it was a lot better - the company had somebody who actually comes out and installs the product. With Brinks, I just got a mailed box and had a horrible experience installing the system. Everybody seems to be helpful though, and one of the representatives walked me through some things, but it would've been a lot easier if there were two or three guys for the installation. While I like the features in the package, the product seemed cheaply made. The sensors didn’t work right off the top.

I was very happy with my Livewatch Security system until Brinks bought them. The first problem came in September when I began to get calls from Jamaica claiming I owed Brinks money and it had been turned over for collections. Many hours on the phone and Brinks admitted they had turned over FALSE information to a collection agency in a third world country including my name, address, phone, and passcode! Someone had put false information on my account about equipment I never ordered and it was claimed I failed to return! Of course, I never had any bill or indication about this matter.
Today while away from home, my alarm was tripped. I was on my way home and fairly close. At NO time did the operator I spoke to tell me the alarm was due to a LOW BATTERY on a motion sensor! My dogs were at home and had to listen to several minutes of loud alarm for NOTHING! I received NO notice of any low battery in advance and it took HOURS on the phone to find out the problem. Then I discovered the camera that had been in use on my panel has been inactivated, I can no longer call the company directly from my panel, and all labels associated with the sensors are now GONE! NO ONE at Brinks could tell me which sensor had the low battery or if I had replaced the right one! When I first called I was told my wait time would be 10 minutes, I gave up after 35 and got NO service. I'm now looking for another company that actually knows what they are doing and I will get what I pay for!

My husband works night shift and I’m home, so I need to have a more security. We have a security guard in our building but this wasn’t enough security for me. I thought Brinks was the company that we used at the church where my husband was a pastor, although I knew Brinks was familiar with other people using it. I saw the signs on their doors so I decided to call. It sounded okay and everything went pretty well, but I don’t know how it’s gonna work now. I’m ready to cancel it because I can’t get my camera. When we called for the installation, my cable box wasn't on yet and in order to put the camera, I needed the internet service. When I finally got it, I called and the whole day, they just kept pushing us off to other people. Then the majority of the time, people weren’t answering the phone.
At this point, I’m not secure because I’m still new. Brinks could have handled the customer service, answering the phones, and getting back with people differently. This is a security. What about the elderly people that are trying to get through, do they have a hard time getting through to them? If my mother, I wanted her to call and be safe, but maybe somebody called Brinks instead of calling the police, and nobody came to the phone and did anything. It’s just a terrible customer service experience and I won’t recommend them.

When the Brinks reps called, they walked me through all of the set-up process and different features of their system. They also answered all the questions I had. They were extraordinarily helpful and very patient with me. Although, I had to stop them once in a while to make sure I understood everything. They're also as pleasant as I could have possibly expected. I had done most of the installation prior to the phone call. I received the package and it had instructions. While the installation of the equipment was very easy, I had few questions about the installation and the Brinks reps were happy to help.
So far, I find the cost fair. That was one of the reasons I ended up going with Brinks. I got quoted a little bit more expensive from other companies but Brinks had one of the cheaper options for me. And although I'll probably won't ever use most of their cool features, they did a good job explaining them and when they would be applicable. Still, I like that you can put up different profiles. So I reinstated service with a contract, but Brinks never took my system off test mode so if the alarm sounded, they would not call me or the police. I have had to alarms go off since July, I have not been called one time to see whether there was a problem.
Called Customer service got account manager "Kevin" I requested a credit for 3 mo of service where I was not being monitored pursuant to our contract, he refused to give me a credit stating that they were still monitoring my service and could see when the alarms were activated. My Brinks home security system was already installed when I bought the house. However, I’m not happy at all because it’s not complete. Their rep did call and tried to set it up on the phone. She walked me through the process of wiring up my communicator. However, she didn’t sound like she knew what she was doing. It was like she was reading out of a book and trying to tell me what to do. Then, when we went to test everything, the alarm went off and it was extremely loud that it scared my children. Worse, she couldn’t tell me what to do, except just go and unplug it. So, I opted for the $200 technician to come out.
While the service technician was very knowledgeable and I was pleased with his work, he couldn’t make the home security system work because the cellular communicator wasn’t strong enough to get out. It can only receive partial signal. So, when we set off every zone in the house, they’re not receiving it. In the end, he was not able to complete the job and he hasn't called when he’ll be coming back. So right now, I’m paying for a service that I’m not getting.

The next day, I started getting notifications of an alarm event that never happened. Then the alarm started arming itself again. It would count down and set itself, I could not stop it. Then the alarm would go off. This went on for hours. I carried the control panel around with me so I could disarm it before the alarm went off.
We finally had to take the control panel apart as the alarm could not be disarmed. Literally, this went on until the panel was in pieces. I called customer service and was told someone would contact me. No one did. After several hours, I got an email stating I called the wrong customer service number. That I should call a different number. I called another 800 number and gave them my number to call me back. No one called. I bought a camera, but I'm still waiting for it to come in. Though I did the installation and it was easy, I don’t understand their system. I’m just used to pushing a button and I could see everything. I just push a button and I get in and get out. Whereas with Brinks' system, I gotta have a code for this and that. It's too much. I’m too old to be pushing all these buttons. I’m not stupid, but I learn better hands on. If I can’t physically see you do it, then it’s a confusion for me. It takes me a long while to adjust to it.
When we leave home the alarm goes off by itself. We pushed it on the way and then the motion in the kitchen went off. How was there motion in the kitchen when nobody was home? We just pulled out in the driveway. We came back, pushed everything, and turned it on again. Then it went off again. My husband and I both have the app on our phones. Original review: My parents sold their home in March of this year via phone... My mom noticed in September that they were still being charged. They say they told her that “she would be sent an email to sign for proof of cancellation. However, in the course of conversation, my mom does not remember any such thing and she would have told them so because she knew they would have no email access for 4 months! After my mom called back in September, the customer service rep made a very disrespectful comment about my elderly mother and email... completely unacceptable! I followed up myself just yesterday and was told that there was no way for a refund (nearly $400) because protocol was not followed.
Owning my own business, I completely understand policy and protocol, however, no follow up phone call was made to ask “email cancellation received?” Sometimes good customer service, happy customer and basic kindness trumps protocol. My parents had been customers of Monitronics since 1992!! To have received this type of treatment after being loyal customers for so long is just a basic lack of human empathy. I encourage all readers to utilize another security company as this lapse of professionalism is inexplicable based on all of the facts and details which I did not go into here. If this is the way they treat long time customers, I would refuse to fund them by giving them your hard earned dollars.

Brinks has been around for a long time and has a fairly trusted name. I looked into all the solutions as I was trying to find the next brand and who was diving into the newest technologies, and it seemed like Brinks has that under control. The sales part was good. Their system, unfortunately, is not very well set up to handle Canadian customers, and that was surprising. But the sales guy was very patient and got help to figure it out. It was a system issue, not his fault, and Brinks was very good in dealing with that. Then on the setup side, which was more technical, the girl who helped me knew exactly what to do. I installed the system myself and she walked me through every step. My interactions with their customer service were fantastic.
Some of the sensors, however, are hard to attach to my style of windows and doors, and I get that. Brinks has the universal type of sensors and they don’t know what kind of doors and windows everybody has. I also found that the double-sided tape on a couple of the sensors were falling off, so we had to reattach them. Still, we feel more comfortable having the Brinks system in our home. I’m still trying get my wife’s app installed though and getting her set up as well, so our system hasn’t been used 100% yet. But if someone happened to ask me about Brinks, I would tell them to go ahead and do it. It’s pretty easy and they’ll help you set it up. If I can do it, they can do it.

On December 27, 2017, I signed a contract with MONI for $39.99 for 36 months for a total purchase price of $1439.64. MONI was purchased by Brinks Home Security and I was contacted by Brinks in April 2018 to install cameras. I was told the cameras were free and came with free installation. My rate would increase to $45.97 per month and my contract would be extended. The Technician who was installing the cameras called to set an appointment, but informed me that the cameras being installed would require an electrical outlet. He didn't install the outlet and I would have to pay an electrician. He said that Brinks did offer a wireless Arlo camera, but Brinks would have to mail it to me and he would not install the camera. The Technician said the Arlo camera was a DIY and he would stand over my shoulder. After all this information, I said, no I don't want the cameras installed.
I immediately called Brinks and cancelled the installation. However, Brinks still continued to charge me as if the cameras were installed and I've called every month thereafter because of billing issues. I've spent hours on the phone trying to get my account back to the Contract amount. Every month I get told that the account has been fixed. The final straw is on 11/6/2018, I called Brinks to once again dispute the charges, asking my rate is changed back to the Contracted amount. On 11/8/2018, I receive an email stating that they have approved my rate reduction, but extended my contract to 24 months. Wait, what? I never requested a rate reduction, never requested a contract extension, and never approved any of these things.
I call Brinks and speak with a Brandon on 11/9/2018 to cancel the service and I'm transferred to a different department. That department is closed, so I call the department back during normal business hours and speak with a Sachelle. I'm told I have to pay for 27 months. I'm livid because my contract was due to expire December 2019. I ask to speak to a supervisor. After waiting over an hour, the representative tells me the Supervisor says to transfer me back to customer service, which is the first department I called. I'm transferred back to the initial department I called, spoke to an Isabelle. Isabelle states that my rate has been adjusted to $41.99 and my contract date is back to its original expiration date of December 2019.
For the life of me, I can't understand how difficult it is to change a rate back to a contract amount. I also can't understand who in their right minds would extend a contract to 24 months and not get any type of additional equipment. I have no faith that this issue is resolved, I've called for 7 months straight and each month, it's the same line. Had I not read my billing, I would be paying a higher rate at an extended amount of time. Go with a better company, who trains its employees properly. I can understand one billing issue, but seven months, it leans towards lack of training or incompetence. I'll let them decided. I urge anyone to reconsider and if you decide to take the leap, just never make any adjustments to the account.

A friend suggested Brinks to me. They have a good and easy to put up home security system. You won’t have to worry about a technician coming to your house. Also, the phone conversation was great and they answered all my questions. However, I have a problem with the system. When we first hooked up the alarm, when you open the door, it tells you that the door is open. Now, it has stopped working on my second door entrance. I’ve moved it around. I need to call them so we could fix this. Also, Brinks told me after I put up the system that I needed to call the courthouse where I live to find out if I need to be licensed to have this security system. So, that wasn’t good and then when I called, the first person didn’t know what I was talking about. The second person said that they have sent it to me in email.
The quality of the equipment is good. I just have to remember to set it and disarm it. I’m not dissatisfied with the system and at this point in time, I’m fine with it. However, they left out a few things. When I got the system, it was supposed to be $99 but I got charged more. Then, they didn’t tell me they would be automatically taking a monthly fee from me of $30. I paid that last month but this month, they have already taken $30 and some cents out of my account. I didn’t give anybody permission to do that. I’m gonna send an email about it because I want documentation that shows I said no. Still, I would recommend it. It’s simple and it’s just the little things that are annoying.

It seemed like everybody I knew who had construction work done on their home was broken into shortly thereafter and I was having a lot of it done. You can't trust contractors sometimes and I felt like I needed to get a home security system. The reps I worked with at Brinks were fabulous, very knowledgeable and patient. I got the basic package and the installation was perfect.

We recently moved to our first home. One of the things on the checklist was to get an alarm system. We received the package from Brinks Home Security because we opted for the self install. My wife called Brinks to test the setup and was completed Wednesday that week and was told that the alarm will be active to their system at midnight.
Our home was burglarized that Friday at 5:30 PM. Brinks did not notify us nor contacted authorities to check the house. I found the problem when my wife texted me about notifications from the system. We could hear the alarm siren through the video feed from the Brinks app. I walked in our home and noticed the bedroom lights on, dresser drawers open and shattered glass all over the master bedroom. I called the police for assistance. Found out one of my new neighbors also called the police.
Called Brinks which I was transferred several times and hung up on by staff. Police officer (Officer **) onsite, taking the fingerprints was also in disbelief since I had Brinks on the speaker phone with them. After several attempts to get assistance from Brinks, my wife finally got a hold of someone and was told that our system was still on "Test" mode. Even with the confirmation from the Brinks support that it will be active that night they completed their testing. Stolen items: Mine and wife's wedding rings, her engagement ring, jewelries handed down by wife's grandmother (over 100 yr old items), Brinks control panel and other little miscellaneous things.
Police found the Brinks security control panel in our backyard and was tampered with. They took it for their investigation. Brinks told my wife that we're responsible to return the panel. I asked my wife to cancel Brinks and just sign up with another security company which she again got transferred several times by Brinks. A day later, she finally got a confirmation that it will be cancelled. Unbelievable experience and never again. I've never heard of such bad customer service until now. Recording of the calls should be reviewed for proof and to help train future Brinks customer service staff.
Carlo, This is very alarming as we never want a customer to home to be broken into. I've been shopping around and I saw that Brinks Home Security was the only company that was upfront with their price, as opposed to other security companies. I gave them a call, then they gave me a quote. Knowing what the price was gonna be before having that conversation was a good feeling. The setup process was good but I have to call them this weekend to install another part that was missing from my original package. Also, there should be more transparency with the cancellation fee which is insane, but besides that, everything has been sufficient on their end and they have been accessible.
The equipment has failed a few times but it might have been due to me. I put it in the windowsill and the heat between the window, the sun and the blinds made the system shut down because it was overheating. I moved it from there and now, the system seems to be working perfectly fine. I've recommended Brinks to some of my colleagues. I've told them that they should get a security system. It makes you feel like you're in total control of your home, and you know what's going on.

Brinks Home Automation was already installed in the home that I recently purchased. My interaction with their rep during the set up has been good. The rep was really easy to work with. She made sure she got everything up before we were done. Brinks has a lot more features than the previous system I had. Their smartphone features are great. We got the thermostat controls and everything on it, and the overall cost was fair. Brinks system is really easy to use and I like it. It is a good company and their prices are reasonable.

The sales reps at Brinks are very courteous, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. They helped me figure out exactly what I needed since I wanted to protect my home while I'm on the road. It was good working with the salesperson over the phone. While I like Brinks more than my previous home security system, It would have been better to have somebody just come out and do it. Cause it took us three and a half hours to set it up since I had old system parts trying to hook up to the new system. Nobody was aware of what they were until I looked them up. The person on the phone had to look them up and figure out what they were and if they could be hooked up.
Although it's nothing like that it was anybody’s fault, it was just to find the proper information and it took time to look it up. Still, the person who helped over the phone was good. They went the extra time ‘cause I called late in the day and they stayed on the phone the whole time even though it was Halloween. They made sure to go that extra little bit which was nice. All in all, the features Brinks offered in my package was everything I wanted. I like the cost and quality of the system a lot.

I called to cancel my service today because I found a much better deal with another company. They told me that we still have a contract and cannot cancel without paying $2,000. The other company was going to give us an outside camera, inside camera, and doorbell camera with the package, and we have nothing like that with Brinks. I asked for a deal on a camera package and was told there was nothing they could do. So basically I'm stuck with crappy service, no cameras, and an expensive monthly fee for three more years. The worst part, though, is that I asked to speak to a manager 4 times and the sales rep refused. It's absolutely pathetic that a company this big will not allow you to speak to a manager. I was stonewalled. I am incredibly unhappy and will warn everyone against this unethical company.

I was having a problem with my teenage daughter. She was letting people in the house. I was on a budget and Brinks had a special then so I went with them. The installation process was easy. I ordered it, they brought it here and then, the following week, the installer came out. He was here about an hour and a half, put the system in, explained to me how it works and then he left. I like their features because it’s linked with the phone. They set it where whenever the door opens, I’d know about it. So, I know if my daughter is now opening up the door to let somebody in. The overall cost was okay. However, I didn’t like the $200 installation fee. I wish that was a little cheaper. Nonetheless, I’d recommend Brinks to others.

It was straightforward as far as Nest System goes. The only thing I’m waiting for is for something to come in for cellular backup from Brinks. I already had part of the Nest System which does the monitoring for installed monitors. However, Brinks hadn’t completed what was supposedly offered, as far as the monitoring goes. Nonetheless, the equipment works well. It’s innovative, pretty well as a smart home system. The initial cost is not cheap but after it’s up and running, all I’m paying for is the monitoring. If others are going to put in the best system, Brinks is only option they have.

We are an existing business customer with two locations. We informed Brinks we would be moving one location to a new address and expected at least a 9 month lapse in need for service. We were told on the phone they would suspend the account and stop auto billings until we and resume service at the new location.
to Rod in the Retention Department Sept 17, 2018 and he agreed to reverse and credit the last billing of-of $95.31. He recognized that we had already paid 9 months with no service provided. Rod said he could not send us an email with what he promised because the system would not let him do that.
The credit Rod promised was not issued and they sent the $95.31 to collections resulting in 2 calls per day. Very annoying. We have been on the phone twice trying to get this resolved. We get passed around between collections and service with nothing getting resolved. We are a long term customer and always pay our bills. We continue to pay our bill on the other location.
But at Brinks they are so impersonal and departmentalized that they abuse their customers. 1) They did not have a "suspend the account" feature they told us about - they just continue to auto-bill you. 2) They lie on the phone saying they will document the issue and do not. I have asked them to read the notes from prior phone call and they do not have notes. 3) When they say they will issue a credit it does not happen. 4) They pass the buck to a different department if the customer has a legitimate problem. Then they usually seem to hang up on you when they go to transfer you to the other department. Clearly they are not customer service oriented. Their main concern is collecting the money and not working with the customer to resolve a legitimate problem.
My advice: Don't use Brinks. Someday you may have a dispute or need to terminate your service. They don't care about the customer. They just want the money. $95.31 is peanuts to our company but the principle is what is important: Treat the customer fairly. Brinks does not. What will I do? I will give it one more try to get this resolved. If not resolved I will move our other location away from Brinks. When the new building comes online it also will not go to Brinks. I will find a company that treats us fair.

We were switched to Brinks when our previous company sold to them. We called and cancelled our service in March, 2017, had it taken out and signed with ADT before leaving on an extended trip with no internet access. We didn't know we had to complete their internet only cancellation notice. When they didn't receive it they continued collecting payments for service, even changing our payment amount over the course of that time with no notification to me. Through a series of mix UPS, I didn't realize it until September, 2018, when I called and received another cancellation form, which I promptly sent back. They still collected a payment in October - per their 30 day cancellation policy. There will be no refund, I'm told, due to their policy.
What company doesn't follow up when they don't receive the required paperwork? Brinks! I'm out a bunch of money, have never received another notice from Brinks in all that time. What, they don't know they aren't connected to my house any longer? What kind of company runs like that? Brinks! Terrible, terrible customer service on their cancellation policy, with no way to solve it satisfactorily. In other words, I (customer) didn't follow their rules, so tough. I would never recommend this company. I feel that I need a home security plan for their home security.

I have been a Monitronics (Brinks) customer for over 13 years and had technical issues throughout. During the summer of 2016, we were traveling overseas and had to be sure that our alarm would not set itself off randomly, as this was happening from time to time and alerting the police. We contacted support and they agreed to upgrade the system, with an apparent 42-month contract. I was not aware of this contract, but it seems they have my voice recorded and keep rubbing it my face. However, now thinking back I believe I was feeling major pressure to get this issue fixed so I could feel secure while I was travelling. I would have agreed to anything during this time and they knew it and exploited my vulnerabilities.
Fast forward 2 years later we continue to have problems with the system. We have door sensors that randomly say they were tampered and chirp all night keeping my family awake. After fiddling them they seem to stop for a while. We also have a keypad in our bedroom that my wife wanted for easy access to a panic button in the middle of night. The most recent issue was another sensor failure that was reporting a malfunction, which started late on a Friday and did not stop chirping until tech support disabled it from the system. The surprising thing was, we never received a call stating our system was malfunctioning over the course of 4 days of being kept up at night by the chirping noise.
We ended up contacting tech support the following Monday to address the issues and our trust in the company quickly diminished. We were told that the sensor that was originally malfunctioning stopped, so they would not even look at it. The current failed sensor will take 7-10 days to be replaced and as for the keypad in our bedroom, they said it’s not even in the system and not compatible. To get everything addressed would be additional costs for each issue. I then considered cancelling my service only to discover I was locked into “verbal agreement” which prevented me from cancelling my service. Since then I have tried to settle this matter with their Facebook messenger app and speaking with customer service. It was during these conversations I totally lost faith in Brinks to secure my house.
After asking questions, it would take hours to get a response and it would be from a different person most of the time. They always say the same thing. “We have your voice saying “yes” so you're stuck with us unless you want to buy out the contract”. The last call I made to Brinks was simply asking to cancel my account. They said I would be billed until the end of the contract term, which is 18 months from now, but put my account in “Test mode” so it’s virtually ineffective now. At this point I would really appreciate help to cancel my service and waive my current verbal agreement, so I’m no longer billed. As stated above, I wasn’t aware of this verbal agreement and felt great pressure to have a working system while I was overseas. The pressure I felt may be reason why I didn’t process the fact that the solution to the technical issue equated to a 42-month contact after being a loyal customer for 10 years at the time.
I sent a very similar letter to Jeff Gardner - CEO of Brinks and to my surprise, I received no help or even an acknowledgment the e-mail was received. I don’t think I should be responsible for a contract that I was not even aware and beside that the price increases at least 2 times per year. Why would anyone agree to a contract like this? There hundreds are not thousands of people complaining about the same thing and it's shocking a class action lawsuit has not been filed.
Currently the alarm system is sitting in a Ziplock bag just as effective in this condition as when it was connected to their system, since I was not receiving any calls when my door was malfunctioning and never knew about the keypad in the bedroom not “hooked up”. What if we had to use the panic button and it did nothing? This could be been a real problem. I really need help to cut all ties with this company while ensuring they will not file to claim to a credit bureau. It’s a shame I must worry about this from a company that is supposed to make you feel safe.

Updated on 07/09/2019: It has been a year and no response from Jacob **. The last review that I wrote was I think a generic response. I have been paying for a system that I do not have nor want. My biggest concern was that even after calling multiple times to inform them that I sold my house and was no longer living there yet I still had access to the locks, alarm system and video cameras for 2 months, they didn't seem to care. There is no way I will do business with them ever again and warn other people to be wary of this company.
Original Review: Shortly after my wife and I bought our house in 2015 a Monitronics representative showed up and told us about the alarm system that was offered in our area. We liked it and went ahead and signed up, now at the time it was for a 2 year contract. When we sold our house a little over a year later I called Moni (as it was called then) to let them know we were moving, and to ask what I needed to do. They told me to leave the system in place and I would have a brand new system installed in my new house. I was ok with that. They came out to the new house after we moved in and installed the same system that we had in the old house but we added a outdoor camera. Everything went smooth.
Now we have since sold that house and again was told to just leave the system. I called to find out what needed to happen because we are just renting for now and didn't want to have anything permanent installed. They told me that they have a new system that has a tablet like panel, I was ok with that. Then the representative told me that I had to extend my contract to cover everything. I asked why and they said to cover all the costs of the equipment, I didn't want to extend because I was unsure that I wanted to even stay with them.
I was then informed that if the new owners decided to activate the alarm system that they could just take over the contract. The new owners did not want to use the system. During all of this I kept calling and asking Brinks to disconnect my account from the system in the old house. From my app I could still unlock front door and disarm the alarm. It took 8 phone calls and a whole lot of yelling for them to finally do it. That was the last straw for me and I told them that I did not want to do business with a company that would do that to a person, imagine knowing that just because you have that system in a house that you buy someone could still have access to it.
Now I am being told that I have to buy the new system outright for $1k or extend the contract for 36 months and pay $500. I told them to just cancel it and they told me that I was on a 5 year contract, that was news to me. Have asked to talk to a supervisor and get the same BS every time that someone would get back to me (NEVER HAPPENS). Customer service is constantly rude and dismissive. Hope this helps someone avoid the same.

I received my credit card statement and was charge $542 by Brinks not the Advertiser's price of $99. Buyers beware of false advertising. I am praying Brinks sends me a refund asap.

Ten years ago, I got to talk to a man who was exhibiting Monitronics at an event where I was also an exhibitor. At that point in time, Monitronics was a division of ADT and I was familiar with ADT. The pricing was also right and the man didn't try to sell me a bunch of things I didn't need. Then, my wife and I talked about buying a home security system, and we went ahead with them.
The package we got just fit in to what we wanted to do. My wife and I both work and our kids are away. I was working for a company that had a travel club, and we were doing some traveling overseas. It was gonna advertise things where people could go to the page and say, "Oh, he's gonna be gone." One time while we were out of the country, I had a person come over to mow grass. I do not have the door of the garage door covered, but there's a glass break in there. The person proceeded to start the lawn mower and before he could take it outside, the glass alarm was set off. So, I got a call and I happened to think that the person was cutting grass. I called the person and he was there and told him that the police are gonna come.
I've also had an issue with what they said is a cell phone that keeps at a contact when the power goes out. Two young men came out and they did some work on one of the meters or sensors at the door and fixed it, so it was a good experience. We also use the app and it's been working well. I arm the system through Alarm.com. We have a cleaning lady and we can see when she comes and when she leaves. The biggest thing though was my wife and I both got new iPhone 10s and we had to reprogram the passwords because we never used them before. But, we were able to find them. Other than those issues, I have no complaints. Everything that Brinks is doing after they purchased Monitronics is still working.

I have been a customer with Monitronics for 10 years. Due to treatment of an incurable form of lymphoma I have been on disability and need to cut my living expenses. I called Brinks to cancel my service but was offered a significant reduction on my bill. I balked but eventually agreed to continue at this reduced rate. Fast forward six months, now I’ve decided to sell my home. I called to cancel my service again and now they are saying I’m locked into a contract because I accepted their lower rate offer.
There was never any mention of a new contract or commitment when they lowered my rate but they insist that I am obligated to continue with the service. My wife took over this battle and was told that we were all done and they would stop taking payments from our checking account. Well they did stop taking it out automatically but now I get a paper bill in the mail. This situation has caused me more grief than all of my chemo treatments, stem cell transplant and surgeries combined. Thank you Brinks for making what time I have left as miserable as you possibly can.

Brinks has billed me for service when my account was suspending. The signed contract had no date to restart services at the new location. I recently moved homes, before moving I called LiveWatch (recently acquired by Brinks) to suspend my account during the move as the alarm was staying with the old home. I was told Brinks would reach out in a few months once I was settled in to work with me on a new system design and during this time no billing would occur - they never reached out.
The move agreement had a clear termination date for services at the old location and the start date for the services at the new site was TBD. Three months later they start charging me again claiming they only offered a 3mo move window and they were billing me for service at the old site which the contract clearly states was terminated. When I called them they fought me to escalate the issue, once escalated they refused a refund even given the agreement terms. Brinks will not honor their agreements and frankly is unjustly enriching themselves charging for a service they aren't delivering.

I originally contracted my home security with ADT; a 2 year agreement. When that agreement was met I ended it and chose to go with Monitronics as my security company. The person that came to my house told me that it was Monitronics that paid for the original install of all the equipment but that ADT did the monitoring, a lie I later found out. When all was said and done the system was all set up and working and the tech left. All went well. After a time if I remember right just before the 2 year agreement was over Monitronics changed its name to MONI then not long after that it sold out to Brinks then the price went up. I called wanting to end my contract because the 2 year agreement was up. That's when I was told I was in a 5 year contract but they didn't know why since all the contracts were 2 years.
I told them they broke the contract by going up on the price but they told me all they were required to do was refund me the overcharge and continue with the contract at said price. I managed to get it a dollar lower. Then I moved and was forced to take the security system with me or buy out the remaining contract. After it's all set up in the new home I am charged $99.00 and was told that 12 additional months are added to the original contract which still had a couple years left from the original 5 years and that I agreed to those terms. I was not giving any proof of my supposed recorded statement nor the original contract that showed I indeed signed a 5 year contract. I never signed any agreement or contract with Brinks and I cannot get out of the contract unless I pay it out. If you are thinking of getting a Home security system check with a local company DO NOT deal with any door to door salesman for security.
They are all out of state and do not care about you. Only what they can stick you with and how to keep you under contract for as long as possible. Even after your contract is up. Most of these companies have some sort of system in place designed to trick or force you into another contract. Some won't stop billing you even after you cancel the contract after your agreement time is over. Again I repeat. Never NEVER go with any alarm company that sends a door to door salesman into your area. You will regret it. Brinks Home Security is not a good company to deal with. AGAIN Brinks Home Security is not a good company to deal with. Do your research and do it on local companies. NEVER no matter how good a review online is DO NOT go with an out of state home security company.

Prior to having Brinks' system, I really liked the first unit I got with my previous provider but then my window wasn't wired. A salesman came along and said that he had worked for my previous company and that it was changing hands. He also said he could change my existing unit and do the windows as well. At the time, he said that it would be no problem to switch over, not realizing that I was still in a contract with the first company.
When the salesman was talking to me, I wanted to call my first provider but then he kept saying that we should just write them a letter. He wrote one out and I signed it but I didn't realize I was in an existing contract either. He had his telecom job equipment that night and he gave it to us. When the salesman was installing the new equipment, he had a hard time and he kept saying it was because of something about the way the previous provider rigged up my first system. In the bedroom, it wasn't right and installing took him a lot longer than he thought. Thereafter, I had no use for what he replaced so I threw it and the garbage man took it away. The first company then wanted to charge me $600 because I had gotten rid of their equipment and I was switching providers.
I got the salesman thereafter and he paid half of the cost. I found out from my first company that I could have made the salesman switch me back but then we already threw the equipment. That really upset me. Furthermore, with the unit I have at my door, I don't like how I have to close the door to set off the alarm. Also, at one point in time, our alarm kept going off and Brinks had to end up sending someone out here to fix it. The salesman claimed it was something to do to the wiring of the first system that I had.
Nevertheless, I think I have a good system from Brinks. I like the idea of the glass breakage thing and the motion detector because not all my windows are hooked up. Also, I like using my system through the app. I'd rather not give my password when we have to have someone come to our house so I just shut my security system off. Though my Brinks system is expensive, it's worth it for the protection.

Apparently at that time that signed me up for a 60 month contract. I didn't understand this. Fast forward to May. We decided to sell our home. It sold the day we listed. I called to let the company know I needed to hold service because we would be living with family for a few months until we could get in our new home. They told me they could put the account on hold. I was still billed monthly even though I wasn't supposed to be. So long drawn out phone calls multiple times through the summer to fight those as they weren't monitoring anything. We moved in in September. I call and am told $700 to come install equipment.
The home has equipment but they do not know if it is compatible... I know that the company the old owner used starts at $10 a month and we have the equipment so I want to cancel. Today I was told that it would $1500+ to cancel! Insane... wish we had never lowered our bill $15 for three months so I could have just canceled easily months ago. I have spent so many hours on the phone since June and haven't even had anything being monitored!

Do not use this company. They will not tell you this when you sign up, but if you ever choose to discontinue service, as in our case when we were moving and would no longer need it, they decide that they retain the right to keep billing you for 30 days or more from your cancellation date. I received an entire month and a half extra in charges after the service had stopped and we were no longer even living in the home. Customer service was entirely unhelpful, first speaking to a "billing" specialist that could not form words in English to save his life, a security specialist that just immediately transferred me, and then a general customer service rep that refused to do anything to remove these charges.
I was told "it's like when you move out of an apartment, you give 30 days notice." That's not how this works; you still have access to the service you're paying for in that example, this was literally paying a fee for a canceled service, and because the amount is small enough that no one would take it to court, this company gets away with stealing your money. Avoid at all costs.

The cost is fair especially if I can get the other features working since all I have right now is a doorbell and the security when I leave out. I have the smartphone features but I don't know how to use them or how to set the alarm. I also don't see when my doorbell rings or anything on my phone when I'm not at home. Updated on 10/25/2018: Within 24-hours, "Jacob" their online customer service rep responded on this site that customer satisfaction is a must, he'd like to look into it and I should contact him at the email provided in his message in order to resolve things. I've since contacted him FOUR times via email over the past week with absolutely no response whatsoever. So, the "Resolution in Progress" notation on this site is worthless and completely untrue. It is simply an acknowledgment that the someone from Brinks publicly replied to a negative review, NOT that any effort to research or resolve the issue has actually occurred. I reiterate my previous review and, frankly, am even more adamant that I would NOT recommend Brinks Home Security anyone. Ever.
Original Review: This is the absolute worst company I've ever dealt with in my life. With every phone call, they somehow extend my contract, but refuse to pull the tapes to prove that I agreed to the supposed extensions. I recently moved and was told that I was required to continue with their service for another 27 months due to my extending my contract last year (which never happened). However, I was assured that they'd set up service at the new address in order for me to "fulfill the terms of my [nonexistent] agreed upon contract". After 5 phone calls to dispute, I finally agreed to just transfer service to the new address (despite the new home having a very expensive closed circuit system that came with the house).
Three days after the tech came out to hook up all of my old equipment at the new house, I received a letter stating "per our discussion, your contract has been extended by 33 months". When I called to dispute this new extension and ask how in the world I was now tied into FIVE YEARS - the original 27+ additional 33!? I was informed that, "because they came out to install the equipment and connect to their network" (which I was required to pay for, by the way), that was a de facto "agreement to extend the contract and [they] didn't have to prove it". When, in frustration, I exclaimed, "This is insane, so I'm basically trapped by your company, you don't have to prove it and there's nothing I can do?! How is this possible?!" I was also told that I "indeed have choices. You don't have to pay for the continued service, we'll just send to collections. So, you see, you do have options." Would never, ever recommend - not even to my worst enemy.
Rj isaacson, The words described in your review is the complete opposite of what we strive to provide with our customers. Here at Brinks a customers complete satisfaction is a must, with this being said we like to investigate this matter further. We've always had a home security system. I had ADT for years and I was very happy with it. Then, a MONI rep came and told me $39.99 a month. I hadn't heard of their company at the time and I said I would try. I switched to MONI which was bought out by Brinks. The installation from their third party contractor was a fiasco. I signed up in March and the system didn't work properly until at least June. I told them I wasn't happy with the system and the guy said he would fix it. He kept coming over as long he kept responding. He had to change the keypad and at the end, it turned out the equipment, like the CO detector, was expired. I took it down and it said, "Replace in 2016."
Then, I started feeling weirded out because the guy started saying weird things like, "Oh were you calling just to see me?" He started being inappropriate and when I told him he was being inappropriate, he did a 360 and started being aggressive and totally rude. I started calling Brinks and telling the customer service and every time I ask them for an email from Brinks advisor and I told them I wanted somebody with some authority. They couldn't give me that. It was all lip service. I did some research and found the emails for all the CEO's. It was July and that was when the ball started rolling.
I got a call from the executive team member and he listened to my story but he insisted there was nothing he could do and that the third party contractor owns the contract for a year. Then, between June and August, the sensors started falling off the doors. I tried calling their guy and he stopped answering my calls. Brinks tried to contact him and he was ignoring their calls, too. He finally responded to them in August and at that point, I didn't want him in my house. I wrote a scathing letter to them and tell them that I was done.
However, even after dealing with the executive team, I still couldn't get my service canceled. They finally called me up after I wrote them a scathing letter and told them I was going to Consumer Affairs and the Attorney General's office. The executive team member called and told me they didn't want any problems and they were gonna cancel my service. Also, they were gonna reimburse me. But I've never heard from them since and that was about a month ago. The system is still working. They were supposed to shut it off in September and they disappeared, like hoping I'd go away. I was just gonna check my American Express billing and see if they kept charging me. I don't know where to go from here and I'm really pissed off.

My husband died and I wasn’t comfortable being here by myself without a home security system. I have a neighbor who was very good in helping me and he advised me to get one. I'm very illiterate about the technical side of the system but my friend was here when it was put in and it was fine dealing with Brinks. The person who came to put the system was professional, friendly and helpful. My needs changed not long after it was put in because my daughter and her husband moved in. They have staggered working hours so, the monitor was put right outside my bedroom. They were way on the other end of the house and they couldn't get through it before it would go off. So, we just don’t use it. It was something that I needed at that time but I don’t need it now.
I remember that I was told that it would be $49.95 for five years if I signed the five-year contract and that wasn’t true. The price went up. I called and asked them with any way I could just cancel the service because I was not using it, and they said yes, but there would be a $2,000 penalty. I can't pay that, so I'll just have to keep paying $50 a month until it expires in 2020. Nevertheless, I would recommend Brinks if a person has got the need that I had at that time. I was well-pleased with the system but it was a little complicated for me. When I signed the contract, I thought it would be protection for me because I was living in a big old Roman 14-room house, and it's spread out all over a hill. I don't even have a close neighbor so it was essential that I do it, and I'm glad I did. I was satisfied because the system made me feel a lot more secure.

That might not sound like a lot mind you, but that's an extra $240/year that I did not agree to. I tried to cancel earlier today and the customer service team was more than unhelpful. They originally couldn't get a supervisor on the line and when I said that I would hold, they let me know that it was against their policy to keep a customer on hold and basically pressured me into hanging up. After I made it clear that I wouldn't be hanging up any time soon, a supervisor, Natasha, conveniently became available. I explained my situation and she said I still had 22 more months to pay on my contract. That's not the case.
On my physical contract that I have with me, it clearly states it is a three year contract. She told me she couldn't find it on her end, since I signed with Monitronics and not Brinks, and unfortunately I would either have to honor the contract or cancel and still pay the rest in full. I'm recently separated and moved into an apartment of my own, where I couldn't even keep the contract, that I did not agree to, if I wanted to. I've been bullied into this position and all I want to do is stop paying for a service, I can no longer use. I've looked into some legal counseling and if worse comes to worse and they still need me to pay 22 months of a contract I didn't sign, I may have to take action.

There was a break-in in my neighborhood and everybody here in this cul-de-sac had gotten an alarm system. I went with Monitronics and they changed to Brinks. Compared to ADT, their technology is updated. I intended to leave Monitronics to go back to ADT, but I didn’t know I was under a five-year contract. So, I didn’t change because of what the cost was gonna be. Monitronics's reps have all been courteous, cooperative and professional though.

When we bought our first home, it came with Brinks. Then, when we moved to our new home, we tried to turn it over. They paused our service and it was easier that way. Whenever we had to pause our service, they told me they were gonna credit us months, so when I called to re-activate, they said I have a balance because it was still active. Also, we had an issue where they forgot about the fire detector. They had installed the break and door sensors and they sort of forgot about the fire detector. I called and asked if I was ever gonna get it and they had someone over the following day and it was installed. And other than those, they were always helpful and nice. I had good customer service and the techs were always on time and efficient on everything.
We pretty much got the same set up we had before. So, it wasn't a big change for us and we didn't think of anything else we needed. They tried to get us on with the doorbell and video camera but since we don't have wireless where we live, it was sort of difficult. I kept having to remind them I don't have Internet out where I live and that it's not a possibility for me. But the system makes me feel safer whenever my husband works late or is out of town, with my two kids. And when we were in East Texas, we were constantly coming back to Austin, so it gave us the peace of mind that our house was secure when we were gone. It's very user-friendly, as well.

I had Moni prior to conversion to Brinks for roughly three years, no problems. I moved in 07/2018 to a new address and called to have service moved. The moving department assured me that all would be as it was at my previous address and to have installed free of charge I would just need to extend my contract 36 months. Well here we are 10/2018 and it’s still not right.
All my equipment is not installed and I have called no less than 10 times trying to get this corrected. Today someone was supposed to come to the house between 12-4 to finish installing and no show/no call, this is not the first time this has happened. If you are looking for a home security company look elsewhere. They can’t even get the installation correct. How am I suppose to trust them to effectively monitor the security of my home? Will be calling AGAIN to speak to management to cancel. I have given so many chances to this company and have been disappointed EVERY time!

Jacon from Brinks supposedly took care of my issue with Brinks on 9/25. Apparently his assurance that I wouldn't be billed anymore after I tried to cancel on 9/11 was complete crap. I just received another bill from them today. My guess is they will play the in public act like it's resolved, then wear you down until you pay so you don't have mark against credit.
Anthony, I apologize there must be a misunderstanding with your account. We originally had Brinks and they did the switch over, which I didn't know they were gonna do. We had good experience where I live before in Southern Oaks so I figured to continue with the experience with them and where we are now in Redding. When I tried to have it transferred over, they didn't disarm the service. Their rep didn't set it up nor turn it off. The people that moved into our former home turned on the alarm so the Police Department and the ambulance came. We got charged for that ridiculous situation.
The original guy we've been dealing with was very good. He came from Sacramento and sounded like he knew what he was supposed to have. But he has come out many times already and still hasn't finished. For two times, he didn't have the right equipment. So he just hired Jacob, who lives in Redding, to finish up the job. I talked to the original guy the day before to make sure that the person that he hired would have the right equipment.
Since hiring Jacob, everything is being taken care of. He's one of the higher ups yet he had to talk to the technician, took his time, referred and checked to see if things are done. It's been an experience. I want to make sure that somehow, someway, Jacob would get a credit for making me continue to go on with using Brinks. He's the one to give me peace of mind. He was outstanding and professional. On the other hand, the people that I've talked to on the phone doesn't know that the others are doing. This is because there was a change over from Monitronics to Brinks. The transfer and keeping everyone afloat on what's going on was not done well.

We just moved into a new home and I wanna make sure we have it secured. We had our own internal so we can monitor it ourselves before and I didn't wanna have to wire everything myself. So, we decided to go with one of the top people that were out there and went with Brinks. I called and we ordered the equipment. I called on a Monday and we had the equipment by the end of the week. Then, the tech came out, got it installed, and he was in and out within an hour. But we had a cellular module go out in the main panel and I had to call them on. They came out and we're good about it. The tech was pretty technical so it's nice to have somebody like that.
We had to call back to do some additional upgrades and we're pretty happy with the features. It's really easy and it's for non-technical people. And the cost is pretty apples to apples. It's good for what we have to pay for. Everything has been great, so far. When we travel or away from the place and if there are any issues, it's nice to know that the house is secured.

I signed up with Monitronics where I had a guy come in and I told him about the houses and what needs to be done. Then I was told what it would cost and they set me up on a monthly monitoring. They then traveled out of Midland all the way to the ranch and Lubbock to put all the systems in. The guy also set up the payments and put the app on the phone. He did it all for me.
However, Monitronics changes names all the time but nobody advises the clients that that's going on. So, when I saw a text on my phone from Brinks, that's how I found out that they changed to Brinks. Although that's okay, I just never know who I'm paying when I see them on my bank account. My other concern about that is that two out of four properties that I have were set up as LLC, so I need to change all the banking graphs to those particular entities.
Another problem that I have is because we have four systems, when they call and ask me if I'm okay since the front door has a thing, I never know which home they're calling me about. They assume that we have one and that part is confusing. I'd have to ask them to give me an address. I have three on the app which was put in by the guy before they were Brinks and I need to learn how to add the fourth one.
Additionally, the batteries die every two months even if I put in lithium batteries and those type of things on the monitoring equipment which they recommend. There's always half of every single system that will not function or cannot make a connection to it. Then, if I get a phone call from Brinks, I had to be in front of my panel, but I'm not gonna drive six hours to stand in front of it. So, we have a bunch of partial systems.

I had Monitronics before they changed their name to Brinks. I completed my five year with Monitronics and wanted to cancel my service since I was laid off of work and was at home most of the time. I called Customer service which they were able to convince me to keep it and that they would reduce my bill from $45 to $19.99. I agreed and was supposed to have this service for 24 months without contract according to Michelle who is the account manager and who I spoke to on July 25, 2017. When Brinks took over the company, the bill started being $45 again.
I called customer service again to try to cancel my service. Customer service assured me that they will allow me to still keep it for $19.99 a month. I agreed to continue to keep the service if I could have it for $19.99 a month. Customer service stated that they just needed my permission to allow them to change my plan which I agreed to. It turns out that they renewed my contract for 60 months! They are a bunch of crooks, I called Brinks two days later after I got a letter from them of my change and the 60 month commitment.
I called Brinks and argued about this change. All they would say is that I agreed to it which I didn’t. I was under the impression that they would just give it to me for $19.99 to keep me. Nothing was settled at that time. I called again yesterday when I found my notes of when I talk to Michelle the Account Manager on July 25, 2017 at 11:22 AM and she gave me that promotion of $19.99 for 24 months without a contract. It should still be active as of today, but they were able to con me into the same price for the same for 60 months, which if I would of known from the get go I would of said no. I talked to another account manager By the name of Clia in regards to this issue! I explained to her that I did not know they were going to lock me in for 60 months and that I wanted my old plan to still stand which was the 24 months. She threatened that if I didn’t pay I will be sent to collections.
I told Clia that I had already had a plan in place for the 24 months for the same price. That why can’t I keep that since it was still active. She said because I had agreed to pay $19.99 a month which I told her that was the same price I was supposed to be getting from the get go. Then Clia did found the notes where Michelle the account manager agreed to let me have the plan for the $19.99 but then claimed that the line was dropped so therefore that offer was not valid. No call was ever dropped and I feel that they made that up to have me locked in. Customer service are never helpful and the account manager aren’t any better. A little to no help with this company. I will make sure my Neighbors, friends and family know to stay far away from this company. There are better companies out there with better customer service and morals.

Be careful signing up with them, they’ll send you on hurdles back and forth between American Defense Systems and Brinks because apparently Brinks is just the monitoring company in ADS. On Brinks' site it states there is a 30 day cancellation without contractual obligations, but upon trying to cancel they’ll send you to ADS and ADS will tell you it’s only 3 days to cancel and that you would have to pay 80% of your 36 month term (In my Case $1800+). I asked what was the 30 day cancel window for and they promptly answered with “I don’t know”. If you want a good company please look elsewhere as you will see that I’m not the only one with this issue.

I was a MONI customer for ~10 years. 3-year contract at first, then month-to-month. There were price increases over the years but nothing excessive and the service was good (at least there weren't problems). With the switch to Brinks in early 2018, I didn't notice any changes except for a letter from Brinks requesting to auto withdraw from my bank account. That's not something I allow anyone to do so I ignored it. (Now I'm glad I did.) In late June, I put my house on the market and disconnected the alarm system to make showings easier. It took Brinks until early August to even notice the system was disconnected. Not sure how that's "monitoring". At that point I made, what I thought, was a simple request to cancel my account.
The house had already "sold" pending closing at this point and my contract had long since expired. I explained that I no longer owned the house and wanted to cancel my account. After being transferred to 4 separate people and sitting on the phone for an hour, I was told that I couldn't cancel over the phone. Not only that, but cancelation is a 30-day process once they received my letter and I would continue to receive a bill. Brinks is treating this cancelation like a firearm "cooling off" period. It's a pathetic and ridiculous policy designed to force customer continuation. I've still received bills from Brinks even after receiving confirmation of account closure from them. Again glad they don't have my bank account info. All of that is a horrific customer experience, but it gets worse.
Now, I receive multiple calls a week, during the work day, at dinner time, in the evenings, with a hard sell from the Brinks "customer loyalty" team trying to convince me to come back. I have ZERO need for a security system currently. Yet in spite of explaining that and asking them to stop calling, they continue to spam my phone. Obviously, my experience isn't unique based on the other reviews. I wouldn't recommend Brinks to anyone and I'm now very skeptical of Nest's offering that can include Brinks monitoring.

We got Brinks and the same guy installed it. He was very nice and he seemed to do a good job. He knew what he was talking about and everything works fine so he undoubtedly did a good job installing. One problem was, we purchased the camera to put in the foyer at the front door. But there's no electrical outlet there. It was a plug-in camera, so we've not been able to use that. I wish that was wireless some way.
We have been very pleased with it. It lets us know bad weather and fire and we liked that. Also, the guy put the icon on my phone so I can turn the system on from wherever I am and I like that very much. The features were what we needed. It is a little expensive but everything is going up, so comparatively, it's about the same price as other systems. And for safety, the system is good. My husband used to work third shift and the first time he went on third shift, I slept with a butcher knife under my pillow. I was scared to death. I moved my baby into the bed with me and he stayed there too long. The system gives me a sense of security. I feel very safe with it and that's comforting.

A rep from Brinks came to my door and because of the option for the doorbell camera, the garage door monitoring and the stuff on my phone, I switched over to Brinks. Their system has more features that the system that I had previously. Although the garage door works fine, the rest of the other features doesn’t work most of the time. So, I'm considering changing again because I'm not getting the benefit of the dollars that I'm paying.
This neighborhood doesn’t have a good signal so sometimes my doorbell works and sometimes it doesn’t. The camera hasn’t worked in months on the doorbell. It's funny about driving to work and then go, “Did I close the garage door?” But then, I could look on my phone and see that it's closed which is good. I've also had a few things where I've gotten calls from the people at Brinks because of motion from something in the house. So, at least, I feel like it's secure when I'm not home. But I don’t have a peephole or anything on my front door so it's important to me that that camera works but it doesn’t and I haven't had much response from Brinks when I've called them about it. They said, “Well, it looks like maybe the signal is weak or it's something with your modem,” and I'm not good with all of that.
I've had a bit of interaction with customer service and I haven't been 100% pleased with them. It seems that I can't call and talk to them about a problem and they don’t seem to listen to what I have to say. They wanna go through the whole system check thing while I'm on the phone, which I have to do when I'm at home. But I'm not home a lot during the day so that’s an issue to me. It's more about, “We're gonna go through this checklist of things that have to done and we have to check on all those things and then you can kinda talk to me about what's going on.” But I don’t care for that and that is not customer-friendly.

In November 2017, a rep from Alpha/Moni/Brink lash whoever keep buying or transferring the company came to my house and make the alarm system sound like a good deal. Funny thing about it is I signed for 36 months, but when the contract was "sent" it reflected 42 after signing. I did not notice it because the rep Julio **, Albuquerque NM said that the internet was not working, but it he was going to send it as soon as he gets to the offices that date. 8 days after the contract was signed, did not received a copy of the contract. Technicians finally decided to come by to install the alarm system. It was obvious he did not know because he was using Youtube to install/set up how to install things.
On top of that, he did 5 different holes on my drywall about 4 inches by 6 inches big, did not repaired them until 4 weeks later and did a messy handy work. My 12 years son would have done a better drywall repaired than him. I call Monitronics and they said that they were going to send someone to fix it. 2 months later after calling many times for getting a supervisor finally got someone to come see the mess. He took pictures, said that was going to compensate for the technician's work and never came back. While I already 8 months in, I still have an electrical cable hanging freely of the drywall, couple holes on my drywall, took 9 months to get a copy of my contract where I found out that my length was changed, and reps said: "suck it up".
I would love to cancel the contract but want me to pay full length of contract and still ignored the mistakes their technicians did. Would not recommend ALPHA Alarms, Monitronics, ALARMS.com due to are not professional, not polite treatment after signing the contract and just don't give a ** about you. Brinks is now the new name and between Brinks, Alpha, Capitol and Monitronics they just jump that "you have to call the other company due to we do not handle those issues".

I like the way their guys did their presentation when they came to the house. One time, they showed up and tested the alarm, which was great. Then my alarm system went out and I called the company and they got the people that they used to come. It took them a long time to get here, but they fixed it free of charge. It is great having an alarm system, and it always has been. The other company we had was terrible. We had to threaten to sue them because they kept taking money out of our account, but everything on the MONI/Brinks side was good. I'd recommend them.

I have accidentally found out that one of my sensor in my house in not working by setting up my alarm on "away". I have called the company and the first person I spoke to told me that if something happen to my house I have a personal insurance for that. Second time I called the company did all the testing while I was in the house and technician over the phone determined that the sensor is set up to high. I am 5,11' and the sensor got activated when I have raised both of my hands. Technician offered to fix that issue if I buy additional package for $40. To me this is insane. I have a alarm system that is set up by the alarm company incorrect, I am not protected in my own house but I do have to pay for it. Wishing to get out of the contract. Oh moreover when I sign the contract I paid 39.99 now I am paying 45 without even letting me know that the price will be increasing. Please go with different company.

This company continues to take money from our bank account 28 months after first cancellation! BEWARE! Do not give them your bank account information! When we bought our house in 2001 we walked in through the garage door after closing. We had no idea the previous owners had set the security system and we set it off after we opened the door. We call the 800 number listed on the keypad. Brinks Home Security refused to silence the blaring alarm, no police ever responded to the alarm. We had to argue with Brinks to get the alarm turned off, they refused and our only option was to rip it off the wall and throw it in the garbage. I said then that we will never use them for home or business security, they didn't respond at all the alarm going off, nor it being disconnected and thrown away that day.
We did a bit of research and met an independent installer at church and chose to go with Monitronics. Service was always good, they always responded quickly to alarms and was affordable at $34.95/month. We bought a new house and moved our service in 2012 and called the same installer. The monthly charge had gone up incrementally to $39.72/month over the past 11 years. Had I known that Brinks would ever be involved with my home security again, I would have cancelled it then. In 2016 we consolidated and went with Xfinity for cable, telephone and home security. My wife called and cancelled our home security monitoring with Monitronics in March of 2016, at that point this story should end.
Between family health issues and running a business with 26 employees, I did not notice they continued to withdraw from our personal bank account. My wife has gone to our bank and stopped payment and they continue to withdraw $51.10 from our bank account. When I asked them why the big increase in monthly monitoring charge, they said it's a "cost recovery fee" which "cultivates better products and services for your protection" and affects everyone benefiting from their monitoring services. They claim they do a "due diligence" test every 30 days per initial agreement.
How can they claim to monitor and test your system every 30 days to "ensure it is functioning" when they have made no attempt to contact anyone in regards to the security system being offline completely? I've been told that to cancel service and stop taking money out of my bank account requires the code word, then an email with instructions which I've done both and now they are telling me to send a cancellation letter to P.O. Box 814530, Dallas, TX 75381. They have changed the cancellation process continually and still keep taking money from our bank account. This is blatant corporate larceny, the only way to stop them is to close my bank account. They will take what they can for as long as they can until you close your bank account. It's hard to believe this is a "security" company. They are not interested in what they are monitoring other than your bank account.
$1,350 might not seem like a lot of money to some people but if they do this to 100 or 1000 people every month which it appears they do, the federal government should intervene with these billing practices. It is outright stealing from clients that placed their trust in them to provide a service. This is nothing other than a way to ramp up their revenues and screw as many little guys out there as possible. I wish I could post all the texts that Brinks has sent me to justify their actions. DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY YOUR BANKING INFORMATION! They will keep taking money from it as long as they can.

I was reading online and I found out that Brinks had good customer reviews and it was a locally-owned company. The guy who put in my new equipment was really good. We found out though that the alarm wasn't triggering. I was paying for it and it wasn't working. I called and the first girl I talked to was fantastic. She followed things up and was very helpful. Plus the guy who came to service it was great. However, Brinks ended up charging me, so I had to call back to get them to take that off, which they did. But they still charged a service fee and that's not right.
This time, we are having another problem and they're supposed to come on Monday, but they're saying that they are gonna charge me to fix their faulty equipment. Right now, the master glass break is not going off and they said that it's gonna be a $50 service charge. I've only had the alarm for a couple of months and it's not my fault. There's nothing we've done or touched this way up on the wall for it to not work. We're paying $65 a month for monitoring and that includes paying the service equipment but if it is not gonna work right, then what am I paying for? Everyone is trying to help though.

I was a Monitronics subscriber originally. I signed a 60 month contract on 8-6-13. It says on my contract Rate guaranteed for term. I have had 3 increases since that time. My contract was up on 8-6-18. When I called to cancel my subscription I was told there was a verbal contract extending my contract for 7 more months because I moved my service. My contract states that moving would be free of charge also I never agreed to a 7 month extension. The service worked great but between the hikes in my cost and this 7 month "verbal contract" I am very disappointed. NEVER AGAIN.

Today (9/19/18) Brinks called us to say that they were not getting a signal from our alarm equipment (they shouldn’t have gotten a signal since 8/23 and they are just now noticing it. So much for their monitoring). I spoke to billing to tell them to quit taking money. They said that they received the written cancellation on 9/11/18. They should have received it at least a week earlier. Then I was told our letter was incomplete. What??? I was told that we hadn’t signed it. NOT TRUE. I was told it would take 30 days to cancel. Therefore our account would be cancelled on 10/11/18 (just in time to swoop in and get another payment). I thought our cancellation letter was incomplete. They also tried to tell me that we pay a month behind. Again not true. We have cancelled the auto pay with the bank (for a fee).

We've been with MONI for a year now and at the time of the transition to Brinks, everything was going good. But the last time that I called for service, they delayed going to the house. One of the cameras broke after Hurricane Maria and getting it repaired took about a month. I was thinking that the camera wasn't in warranty and they made a request to pay for the camera because they knew they were not covered for the hurricane or a heavy storm. That was the only issue that I had. After that, everything has been good. The customer service is fine, and I'm very happy with the equipment and the service. I would recommend them to my friends.

I had Monitronics and they were not servicing my home for 11 months, but they kept charging me monthly quotas until Comcast came and the technician talk to Moni and they confirm that they could not connect to my phone. I called to cancel the account and that's when they told me they were BRINKS. They said they could not refund my money but that they could reduce the monthly fee, and that they would installed a chip to access my home through satellite with no need for phone and that they will give me credit. I tried to clarify this deal but every attempt was obstructed by their so call customer service who always politely said they were sorry that happened to me but that they could not do anything about and that they could not transfer me to a supervisor and that there was no record of me talking to anybody.
Until I requested to be transfer to cancel my account then they put a man on the phone stating he was a supervisor and that if I wanted to cancel my account I needed to pay $300 for the chip and 36 months remaining in the contract. They said there was no records but now they said they have a phone record that I agreed to the new terms and a verbal contract which I won't had agreed since that is out of my character to agree to long-term contracts over the phone. Please, there are many home security companies. I tell you if they keep changing names is because no one wants to do business with these scandalous, unprofessional people. STAY AWAY.

Got a full system weeks ago. The sales guy was awesome and made me feel very comfortable. I was told the system was quick set up as I needed it on short notice after a scary situation and I was leaving town for the weekend. I have seen Brinks trucks around town (not armored trucks) and thought if I had trouble they could come help with the setup. The system came late due to an error and when I got my setup call we were on the phone for nearly 3 hours. It became apparent after unboxing that the sensors would not fit my doors and I was told to just stack them several inches out from the door. This of course caused them to be too heavy and fall, breaking open and setting off an audible tamper alarm that I wasn't warned about. It terrified and traumatized my pets. Micah was obviously done with his work week and didn't care if I had a working alarm system.
He just wanted to get off the phone. He was rude and treated me like an idiot because my doors were not compatible with the sensors. At one point he put the phone down and started talking to a coworker about me. It was ridiculously unprofessional. Needless to say I didn't have a working system that weekend. I wrote a long complaint about this and never got a response. Instead, I got several follow up calls asking if I was comfortable. I explained the system wasn't even working and I had not even gotten it set up much less been trained on the thing. I kept getting passed around to other reps. I forwarded the complaint and asked if anyone had ever read it.
One wrote back (that didn't mention previously that he had received my complaint) and had me send photos (I had already sent photos to several other reps) and told me he was going to "send me something". When I got the package and opened it I couldn't tell what it was. I wrote to the rep that sent it to me and told him I received the package and would have it by that night. "Thanks for the update" was his response. I had no idea what I was supposed to do with the contents of the package. No instructions in the package or from the rep.
I still don't have a working system. I had to ask the rep what he sent me. I got a short response telling me they were magnets and if I wanted a working system I needed to call another number and talk to tech support. Long story short- BRINKS SUCKS. I wouldn't trust them to wash my socks much less monitor my home. I want to return the system and use ANYONE ELSE. Using nothing is better than using Brinks. I should have trusted these reviews and stayed far away.

We've had a lot of break-ins in and around the area. We're out in the country so it would be hard for us to get a hold of somebody to come if somebody was breaking in or had broken in. At the time, ADT in Murfreesboro cost more and they charge to put the system in. A Brinks Home Security rep contacted us and we picked the day for them to come out. We had a gentleman come out and talked about the product. He wanted us to have an alarm but he wasn't pushy and gave us time to think. He was very nice, very professional and walked us through everything. We got Brinks Home Security and everything was put in for free. We did have the monitored lights in the hallway. My husband turns the alarm on for hours. If I'm here by myself, I would turn the alarm on. But I wouldn't if I'm not by myself because my grown kids bop in when they come around.
Every time I call their customer service, their reps have always been nice, even if it's just calling to get them to help me. I have a different pad now that came out. There was something wrong with my alarm and the rep updated it and put me in a pad. I didn't know how to set the time when it goes up or when it goes down. I still don't so I just left it alone this time. But when I called and asked them about it, I said, "This is gonna be a dumb question." And they said, "There's never a dumb question." And they helped me walk right through it.
Our backdoor won't shut good at times. One time, one of us forgot to push the alarm on and the door blew open just a bit. It may have set the alarm off and they sent a policeman up here. They came in, checked everything and went back out and locked the door for us. We didn't even know that. I had a voicemail telling me that my alarm at such and such door went off and told me they had called the police. And then, I called the police to check to see if they've been here and they said yes and that they didn't find anything, so that was a good thing. Brinks gives us security. When I had to go to the hospital with my daughter and I left lights on in certain places, I knew that Brinks would be watching it. So, if anything happens, they would take care of it. Brinks is a good alarm system and the people are nice. Others should get it too.

3 years ago I originally signed up with a third party company that gave me my security system and set me up with Monitronics for the monitoring. I was originally told it was a 3 year contract and NOW I just found out I’m stuck with a 5 year contract, but that’s a whole other story. I called in the other day because my 2 year old alarm panel (2GIG-GC3) is malfunctioning and the screen is faded with no color. I was told that they would have to send out a technician (on my dime) and if the panel was damaged I would have to purchase a new one. Why would I purchase a new one if it’s just going to fail again in 2 years? So I began to inquire about the Nest product, I think it sounds like a decent system and it would fit our needs. So I asked if I could just throw my current alarm system in the trash and purchase the Nest system.
This is when I was told that I had 21 months left on my contract. So I asked if it was possible to purchase the Nest security system, continue paying the $40/month that I’m contracted to and have Brinks monitor the new Nest system rather than the old system. Keep in mind that Brinks only charges $19/month to monitor the Nest system. Apparently I’m the first person ever to ask this question because it took over an hour of explaining the situation to 5 different reps all from different departments before I got an answer. I was finally told by a Customer Care rep that they can get it all set up and it shouldn’t be a problem. She then transferred to billing, where again I had to explain the whole story because there was nothing in the notes and I was blindly transferred to her.
She then explained that the switch should not be a problem and then she transferred me over to the sales dept. Again, I had to explain the whole thing over to the sales rep. She had to place me on hold multiple times so that she could speak with her manager to get the approval. I’ve now been on the phone for an 1hr 30min. She comes back and tells me that the switch should not be a problem and she is going to have her manager contact me right away to get it taken care of. She said I should receive a phone call within 5 min.
6 hours later without a phone call I decided to call back. After being passed around from one department to the next I finally got to speak with customer care. Customer Care rep tried to figure out who was supposed to call me so she could put me in touch with the right person. Well, nobody in the sales department wanted to talk to me so they just relayed messages back and forth through the customer care rep as she would put me on hold and ask my questions then return with “what they said” answers. So after spending another hour on the phone, I was basically told that they will not monitor my Nest security system unless I cancel my contract (and pay it in full $840) and then set up a new contract to monitor the Nest system.
Even after explaining that I was told it can be done by 3 different people in 3 different departments it still didn’t matter. It was obvious that they did not want to help me unless they could squeeze more money out of me. So after spending 2.5 frustrating hours on the phone I got absolutely nothing accomplished, my control panel is still broken, my alarm is not functioning and I’m stuck in a contract for another 21 months. Thanks Brinks.
I will be sure to reach out to you. -Jacob B

He didn't get his way with me as a customer, so he proceeded to tell me that I was a waste of his time when, in fact, he had called me, not the other way around. If he is an example of the quality of service of this organization, I not only won't purchase from them, but I will make sure that everyone that I connect with who is interested in a system, knows to stay away from Brinks. I was also grandfathered into Brinks from Monitronics. I was desperate at the time of sign up because of a recent issue that had happened, so I signed with Monitronics. With the exception of charging for everything after the basic system, everything was fine. Until I looked at the Brinks site and saw they offer a few things Moni didn't. I tried their support which was unhelpful to say the least, all I wanted to do was add a doorbell cam and the updated, bigger panel. I gave up, went to Twitter, and there I received exceptional assistance. This put a little faith in it. Set an apt for 2 weeks out. Confirmed my apt with the installer 2 days before, also got reminder calls - things were looking up. Day of the apt... No installer. I called, leave a message. 30 minutes later, Brinks scheduling calls me and says the installer just put in the order for a new panel that I had requested. I made no changes to my request. I told them to cancel it.
Next day, I call to cancel my service. Mind you, I already had an issue because they started to charge me MORE than my contractual agreement. With no notice to change or update contract terms or conditions. I inquired over the phone and the lady only told me that's what she sees. I signed on for a 36m contract in Jan of 2017. 36m puts my end date at Jan 2020. The lady on the phone said I was wrong, that the end date was Jan 2021... That I have to pay some ridiculous amount to end my contract. Look, I don't mind that because it's an agreement, but YOU ADDED AN ENTIRE YEAR TO MY CONTRACT WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION OR NOTIFICATION! Now I am going to fight it. The dollar amount she told me I need to pay, does not match my records or coincide with my contract.

I wanted to upgrade to have the service that gives you the cellular but I couldn’t get the people to come to my house and with the right equipment. Well ever since then and especially after it was bought by Brinks they keep raising my rate. I call every month and the representative always tells me the same thing. That they are going to lock my rate at $54.96 and I will see it adjusted on the next month. Yet every month they pull a different amount from my account. I will be calling today and at this point I am considering legal options. I originally was told that I would be locked into my rate if I sign a contract.
I remember it being a 2 year contract according to the salesman but when I called they told me it was a 3 year contract. Yet no one will send me a copy of the contract I signed. My original rate was $53.99 then they raised it to $54.42 then they raised it to $55.06 then they raised it to $57.89 and then when Brinks bought them they started charging me $60.59 even though I was told in July that they would be locking my rate in at $54.96. I am beyond displeased and annoyed that I have to deal with this every month and I have never been refunded and what they tell me is going to happen never actually happens. Considering a class action lawsuit at this point just because they should not be able to get away with this.

After MONI took over our security system from the original company, there was one feature that wouldn’t work anymore. Before, the system had alerted us when a tornado hit less than half a mile from here. That was one of the things I liked because my dogs and I were here and we actually went downstairs and sat through the worst of it. That feature was one of the things I really enjoyed and I think a lot of people would enjoy having that feature too. But after MONI took over and there was another tornado, I didn’t get the alert except from my phone. The tornado wasn’t as close though and thankfully, I had my phone with me at the time.
Also, when I decided to go with MONI, their rate was supposed to be lower and for a while, they were. But then they raised the rate. At first, I went with it. But then they raised the rate again. That was when I called them. I said that while I liked the contract, I didn’t want to pay more. They had raised the rate up to $50 and after I talked them back down, they charged me $35.86. But when Brinks came in, all of a sudden, they said they would be raising my rate. They also told me they could set me up with a doorbell monitor and it would only be $39.99. It would not be much of a difference and I would be getting more. And I've always wanted the doorbell thing. With this feature, I can now see who's approaching my home and trying to ring the doorbell. If I'm at work and somebody is there, it shows me a video on my phone. It’s cool.
MONI may have also been in the middle of switching with Brinks when they came in to fix my backdoor sensor. It had gone out and I actually had to call out for that. A cop came in and inspected the house to make sure there was no break-in. He said that he thought we had left the backdoor unlocked and the wind just blew it open. But that couldn't have happened because with a system like this, you have to have the backdoor door shut to set the alarm. Also, there was no way that the wind could have blown that door open from where it was. It's like a walk-in downstairs basement and the wind doesn't go in through there. We’ve never had a problem like that either. So somebody had to have pushed it hard. Maybe they pried it open but then they heard the alarm beeping, realized there was an alarm and didn’t go any further.

I was with Monitronics then it changed to my monies and I had no problems. Then Brinks came into the picture and have totally screwed everything up. They keep saying they didnt receive payment. Every month since April 2018, even though I have confirmation numbers (which it turns out are useless). It doesn’t matter. They have argued with me every time. They waive late fees like they’re doing me a favor. They credited me 1 month because the lady said it was their fault. Now they won’t do anything and I am at my wit's end. I will give everyone the punch line at the end.
I also argued about my contract. I asked to heat the recording, because I said my contract should be up but nooo I listened to the recording and sure enough it was me agreeing to an extension for some cameras. Problem is I never got the cameras and now they said, "Tough luck. We sent them. Not a problem." I want out of my contract so badly now it’s unreal, never have I disliked a company as much as I do this one. Anyhow bottom line is Brinks will not help in any way, shape or form. As to why when I pay my bill and keep getting late notices, I finally got hold of my bank about this to see if Brinks tried to get the money for the bill, this is what I was told: “We are not releasing funds to Brinks Security because their fraud score is too high.” Now I have to find a way to pay this company that won’t help me.

Back in 2015 I initially signed a 5 year contract with MONI (now BRINKS). After a day or two went by I called in to customer service to tell them it would be a hardship for me to do the 5 yr contract. The lady I spoke to was very understanding and said she could set me up with a 3 yr contract and sent me a new contract via email. Now, 3 yrs and a month down I call Brinks today to cancel my service and they tell me they don't show a 3yr contract, only a 5 year and if I cancelled it would be $1600 to do so. I asked if they had notes written regarding the call I made 3 yrs prior and of course there aren't any notes on file.
Customer service offered to lower my bill $10 but that is not a help to me when I thought this entire time I only had 3 years. Customer service also said no supervisors were available to speak to. I'm in the process of trying to find my copy of the 3yr contract but so far I've been unsuccessful. I've already paid them $2600 for services with them and I will NEVER do business again where I have to enter in to a long contract. Life happens, hardships happen and BRINKS just didn't care about my situation today.

I purchased my home in 2006. I got home security after someone kicked in my door and vandalized my home while I was out of town. The company was Alarm.com at that time. We had an AGREED amount that I have been paying of $58 for the last 7 years. It changed from Alarm.com to Monitronics...still had no issues. Now all of a sudden it is called Brinks and you have the audacity to increase the amount I pay to $61 a month. I'm pissed, because I was signed up through automatic withdrawal. I received NOTHING from Brinks stating there would be a monthly increase. When I called today to speak with a representative, I was given every little hustle they can think of: "Increases take place when you have an upgrade on your system", "Increases take place when you have an upgrade in the area", "We sent a notice to you about this upgrade (NOT)."
They came up with every excuse to try and convince me that it was okay for them to take EXTRA money out of MY ACCOUNT without telling me. Brinks has left a very foul taste in my mouth. I don't even care about finishing the contract out now because they breached the professional courtesy that I should have been given before taking my hard earned money. You have lost a very very good reliable customer. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH BRINKS AGAIN AND I HOPE YOU GO OUT OF BUSINESS WITH YOUR SHADY TACTICS. My girlfriend had a unit and the guy that she was dealing with was an independent guy. When we were talking business, I told him I wanted to understand his business. He has a guy who comes in and puts in the systems then he sells the contracts off. But I wasn't real happy with the service afterwards because I asked for a sign to put in my yard that showed I have a security system, and he never brought one over. I called him about a month after he sold me the system and he told me that he sells all the contracts off. But that was how we started with MONI and then they became Brinks.
The unit works well and I feel more secure because we have a security system. So it's nice to have even though my husband's at home. We also have people coming in and out of our house to take care of our fish if we're on the road for a day or two. And the feature that I like on my system is the ability for several different people to have different codes. So I know when certain people, whether they're family members or neighbors, are entering my home. That's a good feature.

I will keep in mind others look at reviews. With that said here is my story. I have had a security system since 2015. No issues until it was bought out by Brinks. I was in the process of moving. I had a person helping me to clean and pack. They wanted to know what I was going to do with the house because they may want to rent. I told them I would think about it. This person was only in the home with myself or another family member present. From what I can figure out without my knowledge they unplugged the base and yes it does have battery backup. I was not in the house every day. From what I have figured out happen is that the battery eventually died and then this person went to the house and kicked in the front door and moved in.
The security system is still not working. The police were called however the person in the house said they had permission to be there. They did not and since no alarm was sounded the police believed them and let them stay. Now I can't get them out security still not working. I am unable to go in the home, but have been told it is trashed and not only that I still had numerous items in the home because had not had time to get everything moved. Most likely a lot of it is gone. Had like TV, Blu-ray players, computers, personal items, my grandmother's silver furniture and a lot of other things. NOT A HAPPY person at this point. Why have security if it goes down and you don't even know it has.

I went with a place called Skyline and they came out to my house and showed me what they had, I liked the pricing. So, they installed it on the same day, which was fabulous. Then, I gathered the people that were monitoring was called MONI and they were approached by Brinks who took over. I was having problems and the manager from Skyline didn’t seem to want to talk to me anymore. In the end, I called Brinks and told them my problem and that it had to be taken care of. They said I don't have any warranties which I didn't even know about. I thought, “Why not?” Skyline advertised saying everything is 100% warrantied. I need the warranties and I’m not a situation to be able to afford big bucks every time someone comes out to my house because I’m not used to it. But Brinks came out and Skyline paid the bill because they didn't tell me they were meant to be responsible for the first year.
The guy from Brinks was fabulous to the point that if I ever need anyone else to come out, he would come back because now he knows my home and what I have here. He took care of everything that was a problem that Skyline installed. Brinks is the best but if they're going to take over from another company, they need to get that company to sit down with the customers and go over everything, then tell what’s gonna happen at the other end because I had no idea. Other than that, they’re very professional and they answer the telephone. Thanks to Brinks, everything is up and running. I feel good and I know I’m protected.

We had equipment put in our home (which we purchased) from Infinity in Placer County - California. We agreed to a TWO YEAR contract to lock in the price of $55 Per month. Soon after - Infinity became Monitronics. I called Monitronics after 2 1/2 years to cancel, and was told I signed a FIVE year contract. I requested that they send me the contract. Mind you... while on the phone with the cancellation department, after waiting 1 1/2 hours on hold, I was suddenly disconnected. I waited and waited for the copy of my contract— it was never emailed, and never mailed to me. And now, since Brinks took over, I again called, and told them I wanted to cancel- explained that I signed a two year contract, and requested a copy. Brinks— has told me the same — I signed a FIVE year contract. And again- I asked for a copy of that contract with my signature... and again — it has never been emailed or mailed to my house.
So, I am being charged $62 per month for a contract that does not exist. I have completed my obligation, and want out of this abusive relationship. I get the same answer when I call, and the same result... they are unable to produce a signed five year contract. Next step... getting a lawyer. I had high hopes when Brinks took over Moni, but what a complete disappointment. Oh, and needless to say, the monitoring they provide, is on a malfunctioning alarm service, which to have fixed... they will charge me for that as well. If I could leave negative stars I would.

Now lately our cameras are not connecting to the internet because our internet service changed and the technical assistance department informed me that other than having a tech person come to our home for yet another fee, we have to climb on a ladder and reset each camera. We signed a contract with Monitronics in 2014 for a 60 month term at $49.99/month. My contract clearly states the company cannot increase my monthly rate during the initial term if the term I initially agreed to was 60 months or more. Three months ago, Brinks took over. We received no notice of this, and they immediately began taking more money than the agreed upon amount. Customer service was no help and were actually arguing with us on the phone and stating that the contract allows them to increase the rate during the initial term.
I guess she wasn't counting on me having the original contract in my hand 4 years down the road. I read the contract verbatim to her. The rate can only be increased if the initial term I agreed to was LESS than 60 months. More than a little unhappy with how this company treats paying customers. On March 2016, I signed a piece of very misleading paper from a salesman when the company still named Monitronics. The reason I agreed to sign this paper was that he told me "You can stop the service anytime after 2 years" which my family will stay this home address for about 3 years and move out US. Then the ironic thing happened today, when I called customer service today to terminate my service. First they asked me "when I installed the system?" I said started at April 1st 2016. Then The guy told me "Oh, it is a 5 year contract!" I was shocked! I was like "what's the **!" And I have been asked to send an email to this email address: ** to solve the issue.
I just sent the email, hope the issue can be solved. Here is a simple calculation: 5*12*56 = 3360 dollars. This is a damn huge number compare you can install a home security system for less than a thousand without any further charge. I think the salesman have been trained to bait the customers to sign a paper with a great deal contact and turned into a 5 years contract! Good Job on cheating game!!! I'm glad to have a friend from law school told me that if the salesman told customer different content from the contract, the contract is unprotected. I can sue them.
Oh BTW, when the stupid technician installed the system, he smashed on my drywall and make several holes and did NOT fix them, I have to pay some construction guys to come and fix them. And He damn forgot connect the charging wire to the thermostat which the battery dead after 1 yr and I thought was my A/C issue, I paid extra money for A/C professional came and check, then He found this "Stupid issue." We also have no smoke detector working. We called Brinks and it was 2 weeks before the same install tech came back out and tried to convince us everything was working even after we showed that the system was not. Tech finally gave us new glass break sensors and rewired motions. He said everything is working now. The system still was the working. We started getting false motion alarms when nothing was moving. We got fined by Memphis police for false alarms.
The panel started reporting low battery and the main panel started beeping with led flashing. We called again the Brinks. We had to wait another 2 weeks for a different tech to come out. This tech said he found no issues, replaced the motion sensors and said we need to replace the batteries and he left. We replaced batteries for the panel which gave the alert. The batteries where dead by morning. The last tech didn't check power cable connections which were loose causing power issues to panel draining the batteries. There still is no smoke alarm. Strangled I canceled them in May 2018, charged stopped and my home was sold in July 2018. In August 2018 charges started up again, I called Brinks. Spent hours and hours on the phone for two weeks to cancel. I was told I’d get an email to cancel twice and it never came and a credit for the August charge, no credit ever received. With each call back I was on hold for longer than hour. Finally I got the email completed the cancellation with an understanding it would be canceled and it was understood that since I was only removing my husband's name it was not considered a new contract.
But today I received a letter saying “cancel request incomplete”. Contract does not end until 10/24/2021. A complete misrepresentation to me as I was only removing my husband's name. Furthermore just a month after I removed his name for safety reasons our alarm went off and guess who received the call from then Moni to disarm my system, my ex husband to be. They never even removed him completely risking my life and my children’s and then now you tell me you put into a new contract. Three years ago, we entered into a security service agreement with Moni/Brinks for five years with a set Total Monthly Fee. The contract says specifically in paragraph 3 of the agreement, "The company may not increase the Total Monthly Fee during the initial term if the initial term of this agreement is 60 months..." In May of 2017, the rate changed and kept changing with the current rate being well above the contract agreement. In addition, Brinks is charging a cost recovery fee. As stated on their website, "This fee recovers costs incurred in the provision and maintenance of hardware, firmware and software to connect customer’s homes and businesses security systems to alarm monitoring networks, including costs for the replacement of customer premises security system radio equipment utilizing legacy cellular networks."
There was never any notice of rates increasing or passing off the expense of maintaining or replacing of equipment in the form of a new fee. You intentionally breach our contract with increasing the "Total Monthly fee" and adding fees that are in violation of the contract. I never agreed to paying a cost recovery fee. The fees I agreed to pay are listed in the contract. I recently contacted your customer service and complained about the breach of contract. I requested cancellation of service. I was told,"no," at the time.
You have failed to address this breach of contract. A "Goodwill Credit," does not properly address an intentional and continued breach of contract. I am very disappointed that a company with such a rich history would simply whitewash such an injustice. Is this what the legacy of Brinks has come to? Taking advantage of the American people?
You have failed to uphold your end of the contract. Cancel my service and impose no additional fees what so ever. I did not choose to do business with Brinks. You purchased the company I entered into this agreement with. The manner that you choose to deal with our situation will dictate whether or not I do business with you in the future and how loud as a disabled war veteran, I raise my voice about this injustice. Please do the right thing, correct your business practices, and cancel my service.

I signed a piece of misleading paper from a sales guy, offering free installation, no contract, $35/mo. After a few days I get a call that says I signed a $70/mo for 5 years. I was irate and demanded to see the signed contract. They apologized for the misrepresentation and renegotiated a 1yr $50/mo contract. Tried to cancel 2 years later, and Brinks says I’m on a 3 year contract, and they don’t do $70/mo 5 yr contracts. Basically calling me a liar. I demanded the signed 3 year contract and they send the $70/mo 5 year contract forged by Moni.
Brinks cannot produce the 3 year contract that I supposedly signed. They just took out another $56 from my account. Plus, my doorbell cam that was installed by them has not worked for 6 months, the installation was terrible, drilling holes down my wall to find the wire and just puttied it. Looks terrible. My thermostat didn’t work and going that the installer connected the wrong wires. I had to pay for someone to come out and fix it. My doorbell cam is still not working. Extremely dishonest, horrible service, if any at all, contracts only benefit them, you are not protected at all. If you sign anything, they own you, doesn’t matter how dissatisfied you are.

The customer service was absolutely terrible. I ordered Brinks Home Security monitoring service with a nest secure system. When the system was delivered 2 days late I plugged it in as instructed but was unable to activate the account. After being on the phone with customer service and technical support for nearly 5 hours I finally discovered that the nest secure system wouldn't work because we do not have T-Mobile cell service coverage in our area. No one during the ordering process confirmed that the service would work.
My house was broken into which is what prompted us to order a security system. I then requested a return shipping label twice and still have yet to receive one. During the process I asked to speak with a supervisor or manager and was told that there was not one working and was hung up on by the customer service representative. So to answer the question, would I recommend Brinks Home Security... Absolutely not. DO NOT get this service unless you want to be disappointed and waste your time.

I, ALONG WITH 99% OF THOSE LEAVING A REVIEW, HAVE HAD THE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH MONI/BRINKS. I was a VERY SATISFIED ADT customer, who was sold a MONI contract, by a very charismatic, deceiving 3rd party contractor. Unfortunately I fell for it, only because he was "local", and it was less expensive. I have been experiencing false alarms, the inability to connect with customer service and when I do get thru, have been put on hold for over an HOUR, (ESPECIALLY during the weekend and off hours) when those alarms went off, an INCREASED monthly payment which is higher than I contracted for, the inability to contact the third party contractor, which MONI stated I was "married to for a year", etc.
I was FINALLY able contact someone in the BRINKS corporate offices, who is currently addressing my issues. BRINKS is VERY CONCERNED with the negativity being expressed by MONI customers. I highly suggest anyone with MONI concerns do the same. Hopefully my issues will be addressed. When and if they are, I will be rescinding this negative review so I will be able to give "Brinks" FIVE STARS.

My unit went out and I called on a Friday, they scheduled a contract company to come on the following Thursday. The contractor stated my unit is on backorder until sometime in September hopefully. I am by myself all night and husband works midnights, I informed brinks that I needed a system within a week preferably. They stated my sensors only go with my existing unit so they can’t do that. Stated I will have to wait. I am disturbed that the company’s sole purpose is to provide security, yet they are with letting me go a minimum of 3 weeks without a security system. I am very disappointed on how this was handled. I started with NorthStar then Moni bought them, then Brinks now own them. Sad to see these small companies that go above and beyond being bought out by huge companies that see its customers as a number and not a priority.

Originally contracted with Monitronics years ago. Was never notified that Brinks took over the company. Have been trying to cancel my services for several weeks. Every time I call the representative says they're sending an email that I should receive within a "week." Really? An email should arrive in seconds, not days. Needless to say, Brinks has not sent any email with instructions for terminating my account, despite repeat calls and verification of my email address.
This company is a total scam. DON'T authorize automatic debit -- they don't allow you to leave. Now I have to work through my bank to revoke their right to debit my account and have the bank block future payments. So unnecessary. Never heard of a company doing this to "customers." Pretty sure it's not legal to block customer's ability to cancel service this way. Have reported to FCC and BBB as well.

After three or so phone calls the first day I was assured that if he couldn’t give me a month-to-month that everything would be canceled. I returned from vacation to find that I had been charged for something I did not want and spent the next three days trying to find someone to actually pick up a phone and help me. We signed up with Monitronics home security 3 years ago. We recently had a baby and are having to cut down on our expenses. We decided to get rid of our home security system especially due to the rate increase. My husband called to cancel since we were told when we signed up we could cancel without penalty. It turns out we signed a 5 year contract and the only way to get out of it is to pay it off. So now we are stuck with an alarm system we can't afford for 2 more years! I never would have signed a 5 year contract under these conditions. I feel like the salesman who sold us the system was dishonest so now we are stuck with a new company for 2 more years. I would pay an early termination fee but paying off our contract to cancel service is ridiculous. I will not be recommending this company to anyone. I am very dissatisfied and feel like we were lied to.

I would give this company zero Stars if I could. When I first joined in the salesman came to my home. He informed me that I would be signing a 12-month contract for my home security. It is very unfortunate for me that I failed to read the fine print because I unknowingly signed a five-year contract rather than a 12-month contract. When I called a year ago to get my rate reduced since I was paying almost $50 a month for a service that I really wasn't even using because I never actually armed my stupid security system in the first place they never informed me that I was still under contract and offered to meet the price of the company I had threatened to switch to if I continued with a 12 month contract.
That was two years ago and when I called to cancel today after having their services for over 6 years and never using them or arming my system more than once or twice they tell me it will cost me almost $500 to cancel early or I can just choose to eat my ** and continue to pay for their lame services for the remainder of my 11 months that I have left in my contract, which is what I'm going to do because continuing with their lame Services is only going to cost me $385. I can't believe it actually cost me more to cancel early than it does to just continue through my contract. And the fact that they get away with giving people 6 year contract is ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend this company to anybody. They're rude on the phone. They provide poor quality services in a poor quality machine and charge too much per month for a service they failed to even accurately or adequately provide.

This is the worst customer service I have ever seen. They made me signed the contract by showing some free junk and one of it is SkyBell doorbell. It stopped working in 3 months and their support team went over and over again several times before they send technician. Finally the technician discovered it as defective unit and send report to Brinks for replacement.
They rescheduled 3 times saying it as back order and it still not fixed as of today. I reported about the doorbell problem to their customer service saying the bell is not ringing at all and UPS/FedEx guys or neighborhood friends knocking bell and use to leave assuming we are out. Brinks customer service will never understand the problem after selling a junk contact. I am asking them to cancel or fix and they offered a free one month payment. I choosed to cancel my contract and they say I cannot cancel without completing the term. Never go with these kind of cheap companies... Lessons learned.

I originally signed up with Point Security which was taken over by Monitronics, then taken over by Brinks. I did not want to go with Brinks security because I had them before and was not pleased with them then. That is why I got a smaller company, so I wouldn't have to worry about dealing with a big company that could care less about their customers. Now, I have been told that Brinks has taken over the company and the only way out of the contract is to pay it off completely! I waited on the phone one day for 30 minutes to get transferred around and then hung up on.
When I called back, I waited another 20 minutes to get someone on the phone to discuss my options and contract (which she couldn't answer any of my questions) and I had to ask 3 or 4 times to get them to put a supervisor on the phone. That supervisor told me to call back between 8-5 (since it was after 5 now because I had been holding for almost an hour) to get someone on the phone who could help cancel my contract. I did that and was told that the only way out is to pay the entire contract? Why would I cancel it if I have to pay the whole thing? Really, really bad customer service and I wish my original company was still the one I was working with. I hate being just a number to a company. I will not ever recommend this company to anyone that I know and I will definitely be ending this contract as soon as I can.

We signed up with Monitronics Security about 6 years ago. We have had the system turned off during that time more than it has been on. Problems with batteries going low and continuous "beeping noises". I continued with the system until March 1 of this year. March 1, I contacted Monitronics to cancel the system. I was offered several options to continue the service. I said "no" to every one, letting the person know I don't want the system. If I changed my mind, I would contact them.
I heard nothing more from Monitronics until this week, when I received a "bill" from them for $137.04. This is broken down as $ 53.52 July service (dated 7/9), $25.00 "returned check fee" (dated 7/10), $5.00 "late fee" (dated 7/28), another $53.52 for August service (dated 7/30). I called the number on the bill to find out what this is all about and was told "Yes, I see where you cancelled your service March 1, but you were offered a special rate to remain on as a customer". Not true. I was then transferred to someone in what I assume was customer service and got the same answer. Both people could see where I had cancelled my service March 1, but there is a note saying I agreed to some new program, which I did not.
Jessica had a termination letter sent to me to sign which said I "agree to pay all cancellation fees and other charges, or I will be reported to the credit bureau". But, it does not say what these fees entail. I don't sign blank agreements. Furthermore, this should have been sent to me first time I cancelled and not 5 months later. An interesting thing is, the system was turned off back in March. I have heard nothing from Brinks in any form until this week, when I received the bill. Also, I was not billed for anything prior to July, then they threw in a "returned check fee" & late charge for good measure? I don't get any of this.
Updated on 09/10/2018: Back on August 11, I submitted a review of the Brinks Home Security problems I have encountered with a bill I received telling me I owe them for June and July service, although this service had been officially cancelled on March 1. A Jacob ** said he would look into and contact me to "resolve" the problem. To date, I have heard absolutely nothing from Jacob ** nor anyone else at Brinks, except for phone calls "reminding me I am past due". I have also received several E-Mails "reminding" me to sign Brinks' cancellation letter agreeing to "pay whatever cancellation charges they deem appropriate". I have already said I will not sign that letter and sent my own letter back on August 11 stating this. I also reminded Brinks that the service was cancelled back on March 1. To date, I have heard nothing concerning my letter, nor have I heard anything from anyone at Brinks.
Just this past week, I received another bill from Brinks cancelling the "returned check fee" and "late fee" from the previous bill, but billing me for July, August, and September. Not sure what Brinks does not understand about I am not going to pay this bill. I have never had a contract with Brinks. My only contract was with ISI Alarms, signed back on May 31, 2011. This was a 36 month contract and has long since been completed.

DISHONEST - BEWARE! I agreed to a 1 year contract, cheated into 3 year contract without my knowledge! Brinks won't budge! 2 years ago, Monitronics came to my door sold me an amazing deal on an alarm system, the rep walked away leaving a flyer and he wrote no contract, monthly 19.99. I get mail a few days later saying I need to sign a 3 year contract and it's $75/mo. I said no. So we negotiated, I shopped around, we settled on 1 year contract, at $50/mo, no upfront costs, alarm system was complimentary. I felt that was fair.
The alarm company has done nothing, and the alarm itself is a standalone deterrent. The alarm isn't even connected to local police, fire etc because of the nightmare fees I've heard of on false alarms, which we get charged through the alarm company anyway. I call Brinks who bought Monitronics to cancel my month to month, they said nope, it's a 3 year contract. I explained above, they said I need to produce the 1 year contract, and now that I think about it, it was a recorded phone call, that was the contract, and they said they have a signed contract for 3 years. They refuse to work with me, said I'm on the hook for another year, sorry. My parents have ADT and said they've never been cheated or mislead.
After next year I will cancel my contract with Brinks and if I decide to sign up with an alarm company, I'm going to ADT. Any referrals to alarm companies, Brinks does not have my enforcement at all, Stay Away! Oh yeah, the installation was a nightmare... My heater didn't work, had to call service pay then got reimbursed because it was a wrong connection through the alarm system, my doorbell cam still doesn't work after they replaced it twice, the second time I had to help the technician, these guys are completely incompetent.

I have been with Moni now Brinks for the last 3 years, and haven’t had to much trouble with them but renewed my contract this year due to the increase. I wish I hadn’t because ever since, I’ve had more false alarms in the middle of the night and now this fire alarm went off at least 5 times this morning and my screaming granddaughter was terrified. When a customer service person called my phone, he didn’t help. He just put me on hold and another person would answer and I’d have to repeat the same thing while the piercing noise continued.
At least 3 times I was put on hold and someone else would ask me what I needed, due to my frustration I said right now I feel like canceling this stupid thing and the representative said she would gladly send me over to have it disconnected. Then I explained we are surrounded by California fires but there was no smoke in my house so I did not know why it continued to go off, she suggested I unplug my service until the fires in California are stopped. I was infuriated, first she let me know she didn’t care about my business and second she obviously didn’t care about my home security. She just didn’t care period. I only wish I could cancel this service and go where they are concerned and are able to help when a customer is in need.

The Better Business Bureau and relevant agencies should be alerted to the scam Brinks is attempting to pull on my elderly mother who’s in her 80s. My mom moved into her new house in 2002 and had used the ADT Security System until January 28, 2016 when she was enticed by a seductive upgrade offer from Alliance Monitronics (aka Alliance/Monitronics/Brinks). After her heated refusal with the Alliance sales agent to sign a lengthy contract, the agent called in to his supervisor and got approval for a limited 2-year contract. Or so she was told!!! Unfortunately, my mom, who is not very tech savvy, signed his electronic device thinking it represented the terms of their agreement. She did not receive a printed or electronic copy of that contract.
After approximately one year, she was confronted with a breakdown in the system that Alliance/Monitronics/Brinks never would repair. After numerous calls reporting the problem and their several unfilled promises to send out a technician, she was thoroughly exhausted and finally gave up and continued living with and paying for the broken system. After more than a year of living with that broken system, and the persuasions of relatives concerned for her safety and property protection, she decided to go back to ADT.
The ADT sales representative never questioned any contractual obligations to Brinks, which it so happens, merged with ADT in 2009. It was only after the new ADT installation that my mom was mailed a copy of a fake contract alleging that she had signed up with Brinks for 60 months and was therefore obligated to continue payments for the replaced broken system until January 27, 2021!!! It was only then that she received her first copy of the fake contract. This attempt to extort double payment from my mom for the old broken Alliance/Monitronic/Brinks system and the newly installed ADT system (both owned by the same company) is purely and simply.
