Maytag bravos xl - HORRIBLE at washing and cleaning the clothes. Broke a little after a year... Went to Maytag site, saw that they push 10 yr warranty. Transmission went out... but not covered?? Garbage.

I bought this washer (Maytag HE) almost a year ago, and if I could redo my choice, I would not choose this machine. There is no separate spin cycle. Often items are left with quite a bit of water in at the end of the wash cycle (often literally dripping as you transfer to the dryer), and you can't just rearrange them in the washer and then spin again. The only option on the washer is to both rinse and spin, which almost never helps get out more water. So you then have a heavy load in the dryer, much longer dryer time, and higher utility bills to get some loads dry, especially bath towels, sheets, jeans, etc. The washer is large capacity, but if you fill it more than 1/2 to 2/3 full (depending on the heaviness of your items) the spin cycle definitely will not get nearly enough water out of the clothes. The lid on the washer is SLOPED!
The most ridiculous design I have ever seen for a washer, everything you set on top, even for a moment - laundry detergent, folded clothes, wet clothes - ends up on the floor. And the lack of agitator means at the end of the cycle, some loads that contain a sheet or any large flat item (tablecloth, etc.) the rest of the items are captured below the larger flat item that is over them like a mushroom cap. You can't tell how long the items have been like that in the washer, but it's hard to imagine they are getting properly cleaned and rinsed. You absolutely cannot use powder stain removers, especially OxiClean, unless you are using the oxi cycle (much longer than regular cycle) because with any other cycle you will have white cloudy patches on all your clothes and items where the powder dissolved in the water but did not rinse out. You have to manually scrub them out, as putting these items through another wash cycle does not remove all the spots.

I purchased these appliances on 02-10-16 from Home Depot in Loganville Ga., for almost $2000.00. I filed the first repair call less than 3 weeks after delivery. The sensor panel was "bad" and had to be replaced. Now 8 months later the washer is not starting, AGAIN. The dryer will only dry one load a day or you get the AF code. This means that the dryer cannot push air over 5' or so and we need to have a vent booster fan (an additional $200.00) installed plus have an electrician run a new outlet. I returned to Home Depot with my complaint. Feeling that I have an inferior product, they tried to get Maytag to make it right. Maytag refused to offer any solutions whatsoever. Home Depot refunded a little over $300.00 for my inconvenience.
The washer is an absolute ill-conceived piece of junk. It is ROUGH on clothing and does not remove soap. I started out with brand new (expensive) towels when I purchased this machine and 8 months later all of the hems have been snatched off and they're unraveling and falling apart and are slowly becoming car wash towels.
You cannot wash delicates in this machine and allow it to spin. Underwires in bras are badly misshaped or broken completely. You cannot wear them afterwards without being gouged by bent wires. The only way around this is to take away the spin cycle, but you better be ready with a clean garbage can to haul the dripping clothes elsewhere and hung up to drip dry. The washer has NEVER removed all of the soap from bed sheets. I have a dark gray set that show the soap best. Now I have to wash once with soap then wash again with no soap. This negates the machines being "efficient".
Unfortunately, I found the negative reviews AFTER buying the machine. My complaints are well known to Maytag, seeing has to how the same complaints are found online as far back as 8 years ago. I have been brand loyal for 30+ years to Whirlpool and thought that I was moving up with a Maytag, based on my parents' 50 year experience... I was wrong! I will never purchase another Maytag product nor Whirlpool since Whirlpool now owns Maytag. I have researched and am of the opinion that Speed Queen is a far better product and plan to junk this set and replace them with Speed Queen.

Bravo Series Washer and Dryer. I hate, hate, hate this washer and dryer. I have had it for 2 years and hate it more every day. What makes is worse is the over $2,000 spent to buy this piece of crap technology. The engineer should be fired and sham on Maytag for selling such a piece of crap. Washer does not get clothes clean and I have pictures to prove the amount of dirt and lint and soap left on clothes and bedding. Very poor design, and worse yet absolutely horrible engineering.
To wash one item on delicate takes 47 minutes. No way around it and you are limited to the water temperature you want to use and the spin cycle that you want for that item. Water level is too low no matter what setting you use. I have read and reread and gone step by step according to instructions with no success of clothes coming out clean. Clothes are also twisted and knotted and wrinkled like no other machine I have used in over 50 years. The washer is very limited in what it allows you to do. Bedding cycle is a joke that does not work at all. One of the reasons I bought this was so that I would no longer have to take the time to drive to a laundromat. I washed a comforter and so much soap and lint and dirt was left on the comforter. I still had to take it to the laundromat to get it clean.
Dryer is just as bad. Even with the energy saver off it still takes 1 hour and 20 minutes to dry 4 towels that are 5 years old. I can't imagine how long it would take to dry brand new fluffy towels. It was engineered to sense when ONE piece of clothing is dry. I want ALL my clothes dry, not one piece and the machine shut off. How stupid is that??? Engineers - design it so it senses when clothes are still damp and the machine keeps running!!! I can only use the time dry setting because no other setting even comes close to getting the clothes dry.
To top off the hatred of this machine some damn engineer apparently thought this was a car and needed to be aerodynamic with a curved lid on both washer and dryer so you cannot put anything on top of the machine!!! Not every house is 5,000 square feet with plenty of room and storage!!! They want to force you to buy the drawers to put underneath and then the washer becomes too tall for short people to reach down into to get the clothes out. There is not one positive thing I can say about the washer and on top of it I will never purchase another item from the store I bought this set from. I have had service come out time and time again and they say it is an installation problem. Installation says it is service and yet no one will admit it is just a very poorly designed machine. Do not buy this brand or series of washer and dryers. This series deserves a minus and the company should replace every set sold!!!

For families where people work in gardens, work on vehicles and get just plain dirty doing things anywhere outdoors these agitator-less machines are not for you or me. I've had mine for two years and I truly dislike it (Model MVWC425BW1). With different products I scrub dirt and grease stains on pants before they are put into the washer, scrub again when they come out of the wash and then scrub and wash again a few more times but I cannot get all the dirt out. I now work more on laundry and harder since I got this machine.
This agitator-less machine is designed for people who don't get really dirty - just remove everyday perspiration and household grime. I think this machine was designed by engineers who have never done daily laundry for any length of time and theoretically thought it would clean really dirty clothes. They were really wrong! Having done laundry for 50 years, I now know that an agitator cleans better. It would be nice if other women and I, who have done laundry for years, could be on focus groups about developing new washing machines.
Reviewed Oct. 8, 2016
As with most other owners I am dissatisfied with the cleaning action of the machine. I suspect, that in an attempt to garner "green" bonus points, the engineers have tweaked the cleaning water amount to the absolute minimum that may do the job and lengthened the wash cycle to the point that laundry for two average adults is an all day affair. Only get a decent washing job if you make very small loads. If you put a set of king cotton sheet in the machine, you will find that the machine manipulates them into the shape of your compact spare tire, and when you take them out... you will find many sections where the water did not reach... bone dry! Reload, rewash, ground hog day with each load. Can't wait for it to throw a bearing so I can get something else.

I've read a few reviews and would have to agree. This is the worse washer I have ever purchased. I agree clothes go in dirty and come out dirty. I have to hand wash clothes to get them clean and won't even mention how long it takes a white t shirt to start looking like it was placed in mud vs being placed in a washer. Called Maytag and they said I was loading it wrong even though I was loading it as suggested by the manual. Then they suggested it needed service. I think not after reading these reviews.
The irony is that I had called for service on a front loader due to prolonged washing cycles, the repairman was as useful as this MayTag washer. Come to find out I replaced a perfectly functioning washer, intake screen on cold water needed to be cleaned, for this piece of useless metal. I guess since reading that Maytag doesn't value its customers by offering some type of consideration I will replace this piece of crap. Please don't buy the Bravo series. You will be sorry and you will never have whites white again.

I bought the Bravo XL HP Washer and Dryer in 2014. Dryer is great but the washer just after having it 1 yr started making awful noises. Had a repair man come which cost me money and was told the bearing went out and I needed a new one. He said it would cost over 700.00. I didn't fix it as I could buy a new one for that price. I did that. I hate the washer. It doesn't get the clothes clean and the cycles are long. My clothes don't feel or look as good. I have to leave the top open or it smells awful. So, I got the new washer 1 yr after the other one in 2015. It is now 2016 and it is making noises. Theses washers need to be recalled and we should be able to get a different one or our money back. Please, do something about these washers as a lot of us are stuck with them.

2 years ago I purchased a Maytag Washer & Gas Dryer. Unfortunately, I did not invest or believe in extended warranties. I believe in trying to buy quality products. The door on the washer would not open and 2 error codes were displayed. I was trying to add another piece of laundry and the washer had just started. I canceled the load, waited for the door lock light to go out, but the door would not open. The error codes began displaying E3 and F5. I immediately went to the Maytag website for a resolution. The suggestions did not work and was instructed to obtain service if they did not. I called for a service call for $35, but was told that the repair would be over $300 for parts and that was not including labor. The parts I needed were a control panel and a part for the door lock.
This was not a Maytag Company service tech and he told me that this happens because the parts are plastic. Currently, besides a Maytag Washer & Dryer I have a microwave, stove, and dishwasher that are also Maytag. When I replace these appliances, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MAYTAG PRODUCT. I expect the quality and life of an appliance to be more than 2 years, without buying an extended warranty. When I told a friend what had happened with my Maytag Washer, she told me that she had a Maytag Washer broke down with a control panel problem, and she couldn't remember the other part. She informed me that her repair was over $500.

Does not clean properly! Water level is too low for clothes to move around properly. This appears to be a very poorly engineered product. We have had Maytag products for many years. The only good thing I can say about this product is that it beats a scrub board. Would not recommend Maytag product to anyone. Looking at other complaints it appears that Maytag is doing nothing about this. Will try to sell this at a yard sale and hope no one asks my opinion. Then go buy something that works.

Washer was delivered Feb 2016. (First one delivered Jan 2016 with damage.) Home Depot HEAVILY promoted this model - we paid $600+. This washer has NEVER thoroughly cleaned clothes & now does not drain completely!!! There's always lines of dirt left on clothes - you can see dirt clearly on dark clothes. Washer does NOT fill with enough water to thoroughly wet clothes! (Even on the bedding, extra dirty settings!) Clothes smell clean because the detergent was not washed or rinsed out. Washer does not agitate, turn over or rotate clothes... It gently "shakes" the tub side-to-side (like a mild earthquake does the ground) which does NOT move clothes around.
Home Depot salesman said it "strongly rocks clothes turning them around and under". It does not do that! You have to stop washer and PHYSICALLY move clothes from center and turn them around so bottom of pile gets wet (Now I understand why this model has a see-through lid!!!) This model is supposed to pre-wash 'sense' the load amount by shaking the tub side-to-side to gauge how much water is need - FALSE ADVERTISING! I put gallons of water in two loads (same bulk & weight of clothes) to see if more water would be used on the heavier load - results: the same amount of water was used on both loads. Now (Oct 2016) the washer is not draining completely and going back to 'wash' instead of rinse, drain! Maytag Corporation just says they'll send a repair person out but this is a SMALL town & the repair shops they'll use here are sketchy!
This Washer is a huge waste of money just to own laundry status tone bells & non-usable settings. It's probably in violation of OSHA health/safety codes because if there are chemicals, feces (sorry, but where's there's kids...), blood, diseases (if you visit anyone in a hospital), etc on the clothes... Those things are NOT being washed out of the clothes, so you're being infected by touching improperly washed clothes. WHY is there not a RECALL for this appliance? There are many, many people having the SAME problems as us. This is our first HE top-loader and I wish I could afford to get rid of this & buy a washer with an agitator... But alas, we still owe $300 on this worthless (albeit fancy-looking) appliance. :( Maytag XL HE top load Washer MVWB835DW (Does NOT clean clothes!)

This machine is the worst! I purchased this Maytag washer 2 years ago and the machine leaks from the left side bottom. I called Maytag and they said I need one of the techs out to check the machine and the cost was going to be $115 so I agreed even though was not too happy that there is no guarantee after 2 years. The service tech arrived. He could not move the machine himself and was a little angry so my wife called a neighbor to give the tech a hand after looking at the machine.
He called if office to help him diagnose the unit and said the drum seal was bad and it would cost $315.00 so my wife agreed but at the end of the transaction my wife asked the technician, "Is it guaranteed that this would fix it?" He replied there is no guarantee but we still have to pay to try... What kind of diagnostic is this, I'm very unhappy with this company. 1st the machine sucks after 2 years to start leaking and 2nd their service dept. sucks also... stay away from Maytag.

Very disappointed with Maytag Bravos XL, four year old unit with bearings going out. Quoted $400 + for repair. With two in the house, wash demands are normal. Quality is questionable to have bearings & seal going out in four years. Also you cannot buy the bolt which holds the Washer Motor Rotor Cover on without buying the whole $130 assembly. I bought a every expensive Maytag Neptune (washer and dryer one unit) and it is now sitting in the carport. The washer broke and I had to have service people come to my house continuously. Over a period of 6 months I had to pay for 3 motor control boards plus service calls. That's when I had I moved to the carport. In 2012 I bought a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer so I would be able to stack them. I had to put them at Sears because I had to use layaway. I paid for them over 12 weeks and had to use a laundromat during that time. Last week I got a F01 E02 error code which means "replace motor control board". These boards cost over $300 each not counting the cost to install it.
I did talk to Sears since the washer was only bought 4 years ago. They were nice to me but could do anything for me. Truly sad when a washer only lasts 4 years for the amount of money I had to pay to purchase it. I don't know what I going to do now since I am now retired but I WILL NEVER BUY A WHIRLPOOL OR MAYTAG AGAIN.

We used to own a Neptune Model. After always leaving the door opened and following the recommended monthly cleaning and many extra cleanings with diluted bleach and water, we could not get the smell out. We paid for a new seal, Advice from Washing Machine Repair service even though we paid a lot for an extended warranty. We had to pay for this ourselves. We also had our year to year maintenance. Because we could not fix the issue, nor would MAYTAG, we donated the set to donated it to Salvation Army.
We decided to give MAYTAG another chance, so we purchased a brand new FRONT-LOAD WASHER and DRYER in 2014. As I would repeat the same regiment, I would notice little black specks, so I would clean it an extra time with Afresh. I have continued to this date, repeating the same regiment of keeping my washer clean and serviced as we should, I now have the whole tray dispenser spotted with LARGE black goo that smells. So I have continued to clean my Washer.
After returning home from the Cleveland Clinic, I was ready to do our laundry from the trip, more black goo and smell coming from my Maytag front-load washer. My sister had stayed with my 86 year old mother and had wash a load of towels while we were gone. She left the door opened also as she was instructed many times, and that is how we found it. So I took the dispenser tray out as usual and bleached it and scrubbed it. As I did this I noticed bigger areas of goo. I looked in the dispenser housing and OMG it was covered with black mold. I am appalled that our $900.00 Washing Machine is like this. This IS BLACK MOLD, There is no way to remove this mold. I have the sides and bottom cleaned with bleach, BUT I cannot get into the multiple crevices.
I called Maytag and I was initially told by a Maytag Customer Service Person said that it sounds like BLACK MOLD and MAYTAG COULD DO NOTHING! I asked to speak with a supervisor. At first she seemed a little put off, but as we talked she became more pleasant, I offered to send pictures or a video of the WASHER WITH THE BLACK MOLD and she said no. She told me to pour bleach into each dispensing compartment and the drum. Then run a wash with no clothes on all HOT WATER 2 times, then rinse 2 times and this should get rid of it and to also leave the dispenser drawer open a crack as well as the door after each wash.
The Supervisor said ok and thanked her for her help. Then she said good luck and thanks for calling MAYTAG. I've did and already do everything our Washer manual says to do on cleaning and maintenance of my expensive Maytag Washer and dryer. The manual says nothing about leaving the dispenser drawer open a little so it dries. The bottom of the housing looks great from doing this, along with me scrubbing it until 5:00 am with diluted bleach water. However, in the MANY SEAMS, CREVICES, THE SCHUTE AND POSSIBLY THROUGHOUT THE WASHING MACHINE IS BLACK MOLD that we cannot access without disassembling the machine and voiding our extended warranty.
MOLD GROWS RAPIDLY and causes many illness. I already have an ongoing illness since childhood, I take care of my 86 year old mother, my husband just finished cancer treatment in January. We certainly do not need any other health issues. I called my local Appliance repair company and they said that they normally do not handle anything like this, but if my husband couldn't take the outside of the machine off then the top I could pay for a repair person to come out to take it apart then call and have them come back to put it back, pay them again to reassemble our Washer.
I believe Whirlpool in its purchase of Maytag has taken a Monkey on its back. Maytag will do nothing, why should they? They already have their money from when we purchased our machines along with money from many other consumers who also have ongoing issues with their WHIRLPOOL/MAYTAG Front-Load washing machines. It is undignified and deceitful how they treat their consumers with such disregard when we have filled their pockets by being loyal customers.
Word of mouth is good or bad advertisement for any company. Everyone who has unresolved issues of any kind can write a formal complaint to the CEO and President of Whirlpool/Maytag. The address is on the internet. Shame on Whirlpool/Maytag for taking many consumers hard earned money, when apparently some of Whirlpool/Maytag's money is ill gained by developing and manufacturing a consumer product that causes black mold and marketing it to sell to us, the consumer. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WHIRLPOOL/MAYTAG. OWN UP!!! My advertisement begins today!!!

I'm have finally given up and purchased a replacement for my Maytag Bravos XL Top Loading High Efficiency Washer! The Maytag was 2 years old and I have ALWAYS had trouble with it. My towels became sour after 1 or 2 uses (sometimes they smell sour even before use!). My dark clothes ALWAYS came out of the wash LOADED with lint. I researched online to determine whether these were common problems and found several sites with suggestions such as: don't use more than 1-2 spoons full of high efficiency detergent (which recommendation I followed), Use white vinegar or liquid fabric softener. (I tried both with only minimal results.)
ALSO use a dryer sheet in the dryer (I did this but it seemed like a waste since I was already using fabric softener in the washer). Don't overload the washer. (I didn't, but if I couldn't fill it, then why did I buy a washer with such a large tub ?!) Clean the washer monthly. (I faithfully did so, and tried alternating Affresh and bleach to see if there's any difference in the result... not really. Make sure you are fully drying the towels (I ALWAYS DID!).
We had a Sears repair technician come to the house the last time my frustration level was overflowing and she only made me feel like an idiot, repeating some of the above recommendations and insisting they would solve the problem -- which, if they had worked, would have precluded my need to call a repair technician!!! The repair technician provided no other service or ideas to fix the problems. My husband decided we should go back to the tried and true agitator-type washer... bye-bye, Maytag Bravos.

I bought this washer brand new in 2011 for $650. I had bought a Maytag washer before in 1967 and it was still running in 1995 when I gave it away. Considering my first Maytag lasted me nearly 30 years (Last I heard the machine was still running in 2005), I never thought my new Maytag would give me any problems, until it was at least 10 years old. (I did know Maytag had been bought by Whirlpool but didn't expect any difference in quality). Boy, was I wrong! After using it for a month the machine broke down and it had to have the clutch and gear box replaced. Last week July 2016 the machine broke down again. It was the internal computer (referred to as the electric control unit) a printed circuit board that retails for approximately $300 (A ridiculous price given that much more complicated laptop and tablet computers today can be brought for $100, the circuit board should retail for no more than $40).
With labor the repair bill came to $550, which was nearly as much as a new machine and did not justify the cost. Supposedly the electric control is susceptible to current surges and power outages. Given that this is the case, it makes no sense whatsoever that a machine billed as eco-friendly would carry a part that will doom it to the junk pile because of a power surge or outage and does not carry a surge protector. After learning of my experience Maytag called me the next day and offered to sell me a new Maytag at a discount price, which of course I flat-out refused.
I would never ever again own a Maytag appliance or one made by its new owner (as of 2005) Whirlpool. With such susceptible electric units these appliances will sooner or later result in electric fires that will end the life of its owners. The US govt needs to protect US citizens from these predatory companies that make over-prized, throwaway products labeled as eco-friendly that are potentially dangerous. My advice for anyone that is thinking of buying a Whirlpool or Maytag washer don't do it. For those that already own these machines do not run them without a heavy duty surge protectors. It is not worth your life.

The washer has given NO problems, other than the brake has taken to squealing. This causes nothing more than a notice that the load is done, so no repair is necessary. Two years ago I bought a matched set of Maytag Neptune washer and dryer. Although I bought really liked the front loading and large capacity, I bought them because they were Maytags. I remember my parents grumbling that they couldn't afford a decent washer or dryer like Maytag and had to settle for Kenmore or some other brand that they figured was inferior. I noticed that they "struggled" through 20-25 years of maintenance free use of their inferior appliances. So when I found a pair of Maytag, I thought I had finally arrived. I was 60 years old and I knew this would be the last washer and dryer I would ever have to buy.
It is now 2 years later and we developed dryer problems. The repairman found the computer malfunctioning and suggested it would be cheaper to replace than to repair. We asked him to check the washer while he was here and his diagnosis was similar. The drum bearings were gone and probably too expensive to repair. The Maytags are now in some scrap yard and I now have an "inferior" washer and dryer and I am looking forward to many years of maintenance free "struggles." I used to think that "Maytag repairmen are the loneliest people" because their machines were reliable. I now know that they are lonely because all of the "Maytags are garbage and not worth fixing."

The stuff you consume today isn't worth the money you pay for it. The money isn't worth the time you spent to earn it. I am gonna try to find a old washer and rebuild it, and a dryer as well. Or just use solar. Best to keep the old stuff repaired and running. I don't know how many people I have spoken to about this problem. Our infrastructure is crumbling. A consumer based economy. Only there is not anyone to service the products we consume... pitiful. I guess my wife will be out back with a tub and washboard before it is all said and done... she will not like it, I guarantee that. I could not even begin to repair the washer. It was a computer operated board that did not work correctly from the beginning. The dude came out from the repair shop and fixed it while still under warranty. It died a slow painful death shortly after that. I disassembled it with a screwdriver and now have potatoes growing in the tub.
The dryer has not met the same fate yet. It just sits there, anticipating the moment when I remove it and dissect it with a Sawzall. And I guarantee that day is coming. Do not buy anything from Maytag or its subsidiaries, think long term. We have become a bic lighter economy. I have been on the forefront of that movement. I did not realize it at the time. I do now. and for that I am sorry. I always expect something to work when I need it and if it doesn't, I try to repair it. Cannot fix this stuff now. The support we used to take for granted has been outsourced as well as the production of the product. Bob Dylan said it best in the song "union sundown"... Thank you and e pluribus unum.

Clothes are getting trashed, faded so bad & smell bad. Having to use a cleansing product monthly, in one aspect, should encourage the engineers that signed off on this POS to change careers. Maytag customer service says "no complaints have been filed!!!" Horse **!!! $ 800.00, trashed, unclean, wrinkled "to the point of almost needing to iron all your clothes". We purchased a set of Maytag appliances (our third set) in February. We noticed that lint was being spewed in front of our and our neighbors front doors and throughout the landscaping. We live in a condominium and share our front area with 8 other units. We had our vent cleaned out twice and are still having the same issue. We have had at least 4-5 dryers in the past and have never had this issue before. We finally contacted Maytag and requested service. Gary from Brandt's Appliance came out and checked it out and after taking apart the housing found the screen left a gap and that lint was getting past the screen. He brought in a new screen and tried that and it did the same thing, left a gap. So he said he would order a new housing and see if that would solve the problem.
There are 8 other units that share our front area, all with dryer vents that don't spew out lint. Gary returned today and checked the new housing with the screen and the same issue was present, a gap where lint would get by. He went to his truck and made a call to Maytag for further instructions. They gave him a file number (**) to give me and said there was nothing else they could do. I then called customer service and talked to three people and explained the issue three times and each one stated there was nothing wrong with lint being spewed out of the vent.
Now, we have never had this issue before and have owned Maytag dryers in the past. Gary even stated he did not feel this was normal, but was told by tech support that it was. We feel also this is not normal and also is a fire hazard by letting lint gather in the duct unnecessarily. It is also a constant eye sore to us and our neighbors. Since lints blows out, it lands not just at the front doors but in landscaping where it is difficult to remove. After my final chat with Tanya #**, she said there was nothing to be done that it was buyers remorse!! Nowhere in the Maytag manual/guide that came with the dryer does it state the it is normal to have lint come out of the exhaust hood. In fact in the manual it says not to use it if the screen is loose.
I asked Tanya if I could talk with next person up the chain and she said she was it, so that is why I'm contacting you. This is just unacceptable for a company as large as yours not to resolve an issue as important as this. This is truly a design flaw and we are left holding the bag because your team says there is nothing wrong. So we and our neighbors are suffering because of it. We would like a quick resolution because it not fair to litter up our common areas with lint. This is a hardship because we are limiting the use of the dryer and cannot pick up all the lint off the landscaping. We will be happy to exchange this dryer with a different model with a different lint trap design.

I have only had this machine for 2 weeks after having a Maytag since 1994. Even broken, my old machine was far superior to this one, a Maytag Bravos. Fortunately, the salesman noted that I wouldn't be happy with this machine but, thanks to a government mandate, all new machines behave in a similar manner to save water and energy. This agitator-less machine neither washes nor rinses the clothes/bedding/towels properly. It takes four times as long to wash the items but doesn't get them nearly as clean.
Today, I put 2 pairs of shorts, 2 T-shirts and a standard bed-sized mattress cover in to wash. The mattress cover never even got thoroughly wet even though I used the deep wash and extra rinse settings. Last week I put sheets in the sheet setting only to have them come out totally wrinkled and stiff as a board with soap even though I used the recommended amount of detergent. This is a disaster. Shame on Whirlpool/Maytag and the U.S. Govt. A river and a flat rock would work better!

SO SO disappointed. I thought by purchasing a Maytag washer and dryer that I was purchasing quality products. Not so. After only 3 yrs, the dryer is broken. It needs a new heating element assembly at $139 plus a visit from the technician and installation. In total, it will cost about $300 to repair. The washer is slowly going also. It takes about 2 minutes before it starts. Never used to do that. The technician told me that these do not last and that the computer is likely to go in another couple of years which will cost $400 to repair. I called Maytag to see what they could do for me. They offered the part at 1/2 price but insisted on another diagnosis even though I've already had one. That along with their labor cost was going to cost more than anyone else. Whirlpool refuses to replace the pedestal saying that the pedestal must have come that way or was installed incorrectly or was overloaded. There are only two of us and we never "overloaded" at all. The first 2 times it broke within 3 months of owning the machine, so I called Maytag and made very irate complaints and was able to get the 1-year factory warranty extended by another 6 months. This month (May) marks the end of their extended warranty and lo and behold, the machine broke again! I called Maytag again, asking to speak with supervisors instead of customer service reps. They refused to put me on the phone with anyone higher up. I got as far as a customer service manager and she wouldn't budge. Her response was: "If the machine breaks again, call us back and we will be happy to review your case at that time."
I assured her that the machine would definitely break again, because it is a lemon and has broken 4 times already and wanted satisfaction NOW!! She refused to continue speaking with me and told me to call back if and when the machine breaks again. I am deeply disappointed in Maytag as a company. They had a wonderful reputation way back when, but their customer service department is sorely lacking along with selling a sub-standard product that they will not stand by. Maytag Top-loading washer MVWP475EWO - I just want to comment on how engineers have made our washing machines worse instead of better. I had to replace my Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine - and did try a new one of that brand, but had the dealer take it back. It had so little water when it ran and was a piece of junk. Anyway, replaced it with the Maytag and it too has the water saving feature (which I understand all of them do) but I have to put it on the bulky setting all the time to even get the water to at least cover the clothes. The clothes just barely, if at all, actually move! They sort of rotate a little at a very slow speed. Boy, maybe this was the time to try a front loader so the clothes at least moved a little in the machine! I am so disappointed in how all the machines are manufactured now.
One dealer told me I would like the Speed Queen, but it would take five weeks to get one. Thought this Maytag might do the trick, but now I'm stuck with it anyway. It does not spin the clothes out nearly so well as my old Cabrio did. The clothes are pretty wet! So, another fine "engineering" feature. I wish the engineers would be the ones that actually did some laundry so they would see how bad the machines are. My daughter has three young boys and there's no way this would clean the clothes for her. I told her she should be glad her machine is still working. The dealer was very nice about it when I returned the other one, but it seems all the machines aren't really made to clean clothes anymore.

There is an 'unlock' button, but it takes quite a long time to unlock (maybe 15 seconds), then an even longer time (seems like a minute or 2 to restart). The machine is LOUD and at one point in the cycle BANGS. I actually returned the first as 'defective', but when the 2nd machine made the same noise, I was told, 'no, that's the way it is'. It seems to take much longer to wash a load than my previous machine.
The "Power Wash" tears my clothes. Even the regular wash puts holes in my thin tee shirts after a few washes. Really had to get spots out. The BAD news is (they) dont tell you when you buy the unit that you have to buy and use special detergents. One of the cycles on the dryer stopped working within ten weeks.
But the REAL thing we hate about these is the fact that they are built out of PAPER-THIN METAL. If you push on it hard with one finger you will have a permanent dent. They proudly display American flag stickers on the units proclaiming "Made In the USA". They should be more concerned about the quality of their construction. Long life is important! Low incidents of repairs is very high!
My Maytags were purchased in 1992. I bought the top of the line top loader washer and the gas dryer. I am so happy with both that I shudder to think of having to find a replacement for either or both. My units are full size. They clean beautifully and are fuel efficient even considering their ages. Maytag is the brand I had for 18 years and never had a problem with the washer or dryer in all that time. So when my dryer died I decided to get a new set of Maytag washer and dryer. I picked the set together and they don't have a lot of bells and whistles, simple to use and the washer is an HE. Cost was about $900 for the pair. I bought the washer and dryer in May of 2015. Models are simple to use. I have not had any problems and quite pleased with the work they do.
I like to stick with a brand if it has served me well. Energy costs need to be low and I look for sales. Capacity is something I do not need a lot of, since it is just two I am washing for. Good quality is what I look for. I have not ever had paint chipping or rusting. Never had socks missing or a bad result with cleaning or drying. The washer has a cleaning cycle and the dryer is very easy to clean, the lint filter, and I get great results with no static when I take clothes out of the dryer.

Bravos MCT - I researched online and bought the highest rated machine that had the features I wanted. I like the top loading and the less water used. It cleans well but I would like more control like water temperature for example. I have had this washer about a year. I also want quiet but did not get it in this washer. That is tough cause you don't know until you have it!
I think that it is hard to buy big appliances and be happy with them at my age because at 70 years old you remember when a washing machine was built to last a lifetime! Now they last maybe five years and they cost as much or more! I am not interested in lots of the bells and whistles. I just want a washer that will last and does its job. Mine has a glass door in the top so you can watch your wash (I guess..). Well, who wants to stand around and watch your wash...get a life!!! Also, it fogs up right away so you couldn't see it if you wanted to. It all seems pretty silly to me but I guess that is the way the world works today. So I go with it and I watch my wash.

Don't know how old they were when I bought them (maybe 3 years). PRICE, close to home for pick up, 18 years bought (used) 2nd hand, still going. I would buy this brand again, seems reliable. Energy efficient, brand reputation, cost are most important. Used is a strong consideration for a good brand as most people upgrade/move before a machine actually breaks down. I hate "crap". Make it good or don't make it at all. Brand name is preferred like Maytag or Kenmore & LG seems good too. Those are the ones I know. Started out looking for STACKABLE, space is a strong consideration - Side by side won out as it seemed more stable. Maytag has been around a long time.

Had to buy a motor for Washer but lasted 12 years before giving problems again; then couldn't find anyone that would service for cheaper than $100 for just coming to your house plus $75 an hour for labor. That's HIGHER than my billable rate! Rip-off Service & parts charges. Found out it was easier & cheaper to troubleshoot ONLINE myself using FIXYA site and others. Expense for an appliance above what most run ~ 1500 for both units. Plus if it doesn't have or offer a 5-year warranty then something is wrong with the quality! Maytag Neptune Series MLE2000AYW 27 Inch Electric Laundry Center with 3.34 Cu. Ft. Washer Capacity, 4 Wash Cycles and 6.0 Cu. Ft. Dryer Capacity, 3 Dry Cycles: White.
Worst part on this model was a WAX MOTOR that they used for the Washer to control the door being closed or open. Next worst DESIGN error was they didn't put a drain hole in the plastic rim seal for the Washer door, that area would build up mold & mildew if you didn't learn to keep Washer door open at all times AFTER a wash. We learned by removing the light bulb! Therefore it was easy for my crew to learn to leave the door open after washing. This model was Energy star certified and had a long life here 12 years. Unfortunately I think they build these things to only last 10 years; then you have to replace them. In years gone by... the 1970's Washing machines and dryers would last 20 years!!

Maytag bravo - thought it would be a good brand/buy/new technology. Absolutely nothing to like. Complete junk. Bought it in June 2013. Doesn't get things clean and takes a long time to not do that. We thought a good reputation from a major brand would mean a durable efficient washer with a reasonable capacity and good features. Unfortunately we didn't know when we bought it what a bad design/investment it was. It has destroyed numerous garments with fraying and doesn't rinse soap or dirt out because it doesn't use any water.
The bravo from Maytag is supposed to be low water efficient. Unfortunately, it doesn't use enough water to wash clothes, no matter how little or how much HE soap you use. It frays clothes, leaves soap residue, won't wash jackets or blankets or bulky things, takes forever to NOT get things clean, doesn't get heavy stains or mud out, the list goes on and on.... oh, and it's expensive, and breaks down a lot. I cannot believe that there has not been a government recall where the people who were unfortunate enough to buy one have been given a large amount of money back.

Maytag 7000 series front loaders bought in 2013 on basis of high ratings from Consumer Reports. Also durable and look good in the process. Had for 3 years. Machines highly rated by Consumer Reports and bought on sale. They were a very good value. Both W & D have steam feature but find I've rarely used it. Durability is key, as is the ability to balance wide variety of loads, which our machines do well. Capacity of 5 cu ft or better sufficient for a household of 2. Maytag reputation for durability and reliability and made in US, though a clone of Whirlpool.
These are big, heavy machines, best for side by side but they can be stacked. The units are quiet, have more features than we've ever used and so far have been reliable, gentle on clothes incl delicates and drum bearings really help with keeping loads balanced. Door hinges built like a tank but the chassis they're attached to aren't up to par. W & D have stainless drums. Maytag water efficient, no central spindle top load. Clothes come out with scum on them. Really a problem on the solid darks. I have to scrub with terry cloth to remove. Maytag insists this is normal. Refused to honor warranty. Usually check Consumer Reports for quality and best buy. Energy/water efficiency is important. I like to have some control over the machine so that I can use it the best way for me. Such as soak. This machine cannot be manually controlled at all. Also it doesn't have a lint catcher, doesn't filter the wash or rinse water at all. All the lint and pet hair remains on the clothes or even gets worse.
The clothes are not clean. I have no way to control the machine for my use. It may be water efficient but seems to use too little water to clean the clothes. Maytag wants to blame the EPA - This is irresponsible on their part. It's an awful washing machine and they made it. Maytag continued to insist that scum on the clothes was "working normally". This scum was added by the machine. I used very little detergent; the clothes were relatively clean - just lightly wore a few days. They come out of the machine with streaks of white scum that I have to scrub off. The clean the machine cycle uses a huge amount of water. I bought my Maytag Model LA608 washer in 1976. It has very few electronics and a mechanical timer. It has been used every week since then for 2 or 3 people. It has had 3 problems in its lifetime. I replaced the 2 valves that control the hot and cold water entering the machine. I replaced a small plastic sprayer part. And last year I replaced 3 clamps that rusted and started to leak. That's it in 40 years. I was able to open up the front and back covers to get at the parts quite easily.
It is a simple machine with almost no electronics to stop working. Nothing bothers me about the machine. It's simple and wonderful. When it finally breaks, I will try and find a good sized machine that washes permanent press and regular clothes, has a controller to select hot/cold/warm water temperatures, has a regular and gentle cycle, and has 3 load levels for the water to be used. I will try to find one that is good quality with few electronic parts. I will not buy a high efficiency model that uses less water as I am on a well and water shortage is not a problem where I live. I will not buy a front loading model.
I would not buy a machine that has options that I do not need. I would hope to find a quality machine similar to what I have now. I would read as many ratings about the various models before making a selection and then I would cross my fingers and hope for the best. If it is possible, try and find a good quality machine that will be dependable over time. Buy a basic machine with only the options that you really need. There will be fewer parts to stop working.

The deal breaker is all these "safety" features that are really inconvenient and pointless. If I could have found a good used washing machine at least 10 years old, I would have bought it. This is a Maytag Centennial. I don't like the automatically locking door, the inability to choose the water level myself, and the requirement to use a particular kind of soap. Also, I hate the idea that I have to clean the washing machine from time to time. Whoever heard of that? But you have to do it otherwise your clothes will have a sour smell. These new washing machines are not an advance in technology. I may have to go back to using a wringer machine.

It took 2 weeks to get it delivered on April 15. 1st use it shook and wobbled even though the load was balanced but I've read that is a problem with these machines. 1st load of clothes, washer didn't fill with enough water to wash properly - 3-4 inches of water for a full load of jeans. Top 2/3 of clothes hardly got wet! Changed the setting, same problem. Changed the setting again, same problem. I had to stand at washing machine and keep lifting the lid to get more water in the machine. Clothes didn't rotate in machine so all the clothes on top half didn't get cleaned.
The spin cycle is scary! You could hear clunking noises and it had nothing to do with load being balanced. Did a small load and same thing with water level and spin cycle. Called Home Depot to pick up both machines on next business day. The dryer lint trap is so long, it made a mess trying to remove the lint even after only 1 load. NEVER AGAIN MAYTAG! We only spent that much on the Bravos XL set as we were heading into retirement and wanted to update our appliances. Maytag has always had a decent reputation, so we decided on this particular set.
This washer was a terrible purchase decision. The drain hose had to be replaced due to leaking. We handled that fine. However, just past the extended warranty period, the main bearing went out. Also, the transmission was going out, and the washer was spewing nasty black fluid all over from underneath. The repair was going to be a minimum of $750.00 just for the bearing and tub assembly, and the repairman was honest and said it wasn't worth it, to just replace the washer. We didn't even discuss the transmission issue. We were more than a little disappointed in the duration of life out of this washer. I had my other washer for 20 years plus. Thankfully, and hopefully, the dryer will remain in good working order for some time.
Being a senior, this was not the expected lifetime I was after out of a major appliance. I don't need this sort of expense every four years, or less as I've read on these reviews. On average I do 2 to 3 normal sized loads of laundry a week at most. Not good Maytag, not good. If there ever is a class action suit in regard to these machines, I'm interested!

On washer have been having problems for 6 months with different error codes flashing f51 ld sd and maybe a few others. It's a pain because one of the error codes stops the cycle at the rinse and drain cycle and the only way to finish cycles is to unplug electrical and replug it back to wall and then turn knobs to the rinse cycle and restart. What a hassle. Can't go thru a full cycle on its own.
My husband watched a video on Youtube that helped us try and fix it ourself. However after buying the part of 100 the lid lock error is gone but having other issues. This machine is junk but talking to a appliance technician almost all washer and dryers are junk and life expectancy is only about 7 years on any given model or brand name. So bottom line don't spend 12 or 1500 on a bells and whistle washer and dryer when most likely that will not last any longer than the cheaper ones. Next time I will probably buy the cheaper model LG. I purchased the Neptune HE pair because they are front loading and can be set on pedestals to raise them to a comfortable working height, plus the brand and reputation are both excellent. I like that the chimes can be adjusted from low to high, or turned off. The front loading washers clean so much better and with a lot less damage to items than washers with center agitators. Looks are secondary, that's for sure. Functions like warm/warm cycles and being able to adjust to whatever load needs to be washed is really most important to me. Any appliances with a good, proven track record of reliability with few repairs is high on my list. Expensive appliances should be made to last and be of durable quality! No cheap plastic or weak-looking welds or components, thank you!
Quiet operation and dependable cleaning and drying are top in my book, and this pair has exceeded even my picky expectations in total overall performance. They are 11 years old now and look & function like new! I had one minor repair on the washer at 5 years, and not a single problem since. With front loading washers, it's important to keep the door open a little when not in use so that they don't get a musky smell. I've gotten into the habit of using laundry boosters to help clothes, sheets, and towels smelling fresh longer, and putting a small amount in the washer drum has kept my whole laundry room smelling nice. Purchasing the pedestal drawers to set the washer and dryer on added extra storage to my laundry and it's much easier for me to load/unload them at this comfortable height. I'm totally spoiled by it now, so when I use someone else's laundry room (when I visit) I am reminded how nice my own setup is.

It has been real reliable, sometimes drying 20 loads a week.
Large capacity, but has to fit down a narrow and twisting stairway. Must be energy efficient, have good reviews and decent price. We always look for sales or buying incentives. Brand is secondary to quality. Knowledge of an appliance's historical reputation is important. I would look at reviews, especially concerning cost of repair. I would attempt to get a hands-on view, before purchase from a reputable supplier at the best price. My dryer has only required one major repair in the time I've had it. Also, I have to turn the dryer on two (2) cycles in order to dry most of the clothes, and the machine makes a lot of noise. Those are minor problems compared to the washer. This all was noticed almost immediately after purchase, but we lived with it trying not to believe our worse fears. That is until we both started breaking out with skin rashes. Just logged on this site after a Google search... We were shocked and disappointed in our purchase decision. We will join in a class action lawsuit if ever one is initiated... Any lawyers with one of these?

Horrible machine. Uses too little water, cycles are too long. No matter what the size of the load, it takes an hour. Just after 3 years the bearing went out on the machine. Cost for repair will be $250. That's not even an electronic problem which I'm sure would be next. NO THANKS. I'm getting a new machine and it won't be a Maytag.

Purchased a Maytag Bravos 300 quiet series and am totally dissatisfied. I have a bandsaw, router and several saws in my workshop and by far my Maytag washer can drown them all out with the noise it makes. On top of all this it does not complete its cycles before it shuts off and if you try to restart it you never know where in the cycle it is going to start at. This may occur six or seven times before you are able to complete one wash. It may take a day to wash one load of clothes. Maytag should refund the total purchase price of this piece of junk!

I have replaced two belts. It never spins the clothes out. Always have to restart it to respin. It turns off in the middle of the cycles. It will take hours and hours to do one load. At this time it just puts up the minutes and counts them down...does nothing. I am just fed up with this washer. I also bought a Maytag Centennial Commercial dryer. I have replaced a belt once. I purchased a new Bravos X MVWX700XL2 silver gray washer and dryer in May 2013. I have been unhappy from the beginning. Junk! Waste of $1200.00 - 2 inches of water will not cleanse clothes. I found that the bulky setting gave more water so I run most of clothes on bulky. Now for the past 6 months there is a very loud grinding noise while washing & rinsing. So loud my neighbors have commented on it! When I remove them to put into the dryer they are all twisted and a few times clothes have been torn! How can a product of this sort be sold? I have always trusted Maytag but this has me going in the opposite direction. I spoke to the department manager a year ago and he said nothing can be offered. They didn't seem to really care. It does NOT use enough water to clean or rinse the clothes. My clothes are getting stretched and worn. I have to run extra rinse cycles to get the detergent out of my clothes. For the cost of this machine, it should be working much more efficiently than it does. Not seeing any savings in electricity or water bill due to extra cycles needed. Waste of time and money. In 2011, we purchased this Maytag Centennial MVWC200XW1 washer. It will not complete the cycle when it goes into rinse and spin, will not empty water and once the cycle starts, it sounds like someone is inside with a hammer banging on the basket. Clothes come out with a powder residue on them and several pieces have had holes. Called Maytag and was told there was no service available in our area. I will never purchase another Maytag product. Used by two adults a couple of times a week, this machine should be trashed. I have to hand-wring our laundry as we cannot afford to replace at this point. My last washer was a GE and I had it for over 20 years, we replaced it because we moved into a new home thinking Maytag was the best out there. I checked for a recall because there are so many complaints on other sites but found none. We purchased from Home Depot and of course, they are no help.

A lot of the reviews contain complaints about the Bravos XL MCT top load washer. We purchased one in December, 2015, and so far have not had any problems. We had a 3 yr old Whirlpool side loading washer that we just gave away, as it never got enough water to even dampen a comforter or quilt. This machine works very well, in spite of lower level of water. I was pleasantly surprised when I could see the water level with the first load! The controls are not as intuitive as other machines; e.g. spin only requires you to select "Rinse/Spin" cycle, and THEN turn OFF "extra rinse". Perhaps the proper way is to have a Spin-Only cycle, and then tell the user to click the "extra rinse" ON. We do probably 1 load a day.
Water bill has not been significantly higher than when we had the Whirlpool that hardly used any water. Today, though, a heavy quilt (it WAS distributed evenly around the impeller) was put on "Bedding" so the water level would be a bit higher to ensure the entire quilt was wet. Fine so far. However, during the Spin Cycle, the unbalance became so violent that the washer stopped for a few seconds and then went BACK to the Rinse cycle. It did this several times before we realized that the time remaining had not gone down in over 30 minutes.
My guess was that the sensor believed that maybe some additional water with another Rinse cycle MIGHT even out the load. It didn't. I finally stopped the machine, redistributed the quilt and then ran the Rinse/Spin cycle, choosing NOT to do the "extra rinse". All came out fine. There was NOTHING in the manual indicating that this might be needed, except for the instructions to "Spin" only. If I have any other problems, I will send here.

Save money. I have always had Maytag & loved them until I bought the Bravos xl top load washer. The salesperson insisted it was a large capacity energy efficient w/ great maintenance record -- greatly misleading. The water level does not rise enough to effectively clean or rinse so clothes do not get cleaned or detergent doesn't rinse out thus allowing only 2 to 3 towels or jeans to wash per load. Such ineffective cleaning cycles create the ongoing need for loads to be rewashed and be extremely small, yielding credence to other consumers’ accusations of being mislead and false advertising of xl capacity. As such, it takes hours to wash a family of three's clothes. The machine shakes like crazy and clothes get ruined as they get twisted and tangled into each other ripping, tearing, misshaping and ruining them.

The sales pitch (according to Manufacture) is these smart machines have sensors that can detect how much water is needed. THIS IS NOT TRUE. My Maytag machine only gives me 1-2 inches of water on the normal and rinse cycles and maybe 4-5 inches on deep water cycle!!! Certainly not enough to cover clothes, towels or sheets. I purchased both the washer and dryer in this series. First the washer does a horrible job actually cleaning the clothes unless you set it as a bulky load and use more water. Despite that issue, after only owning the set for four years the dryer broke down. It made a terrible noise and you could not run it because it was far too noisy. My husband thankfully bought a replacement part and fixed that issue. A few months later I started having trouble with the washing machine. It freezes constantly and I have to unplug to get it working again. It usually take over 15 times to actually get it to begin to fill with water. Now it started to stop working during the wash cycle and I have to unplug it again to get it going. Most times I have to change it to another setting like "rinse and spin" or "drain and spin" to complete a wash cycle.
Last night it began to have a plastic burning smell. I used to own the same washer for 20 years and only had minor issues that come with extended use. To only own this pair for under five years and have them both break down proves that these are poorly made products and you should save your money and purchase a different brand altogether. I will never buy another Maytag as long as I live if this is how well their products are made. I expect to have my appliances last longer than five years for their price. So save your money when it comes to these machines. I promise you will not be happy with your purchase. I will either have to repair the washer and hope it will last at least a few more years or chalk this up to a lesson learned and discard both machines.

I recently purchased a Maytag washer and dryer from Lowe's. The performance of the washer was highly unsatisfactory. The water sensor does not allow sufficient water to enter the machine. Thinking it was a malfunctioning machine, I spoke to Lowe's, and ask them to swap it out with another machine. They were cooperative and pleasant to deal with however, the replacement machine was no improvement.
The water sensor does not allow enough water to enter the machine to even begin to saturate the load of laundry! I bought a washing machine, not a dry cleaning machine, but a dry machine was what I got and that is NOT okay with me. The literature states that load will not be covered with water, so that is how it is designed to work. With inferior water levels, and no agitator, there is not even a chance of water splash saturating and cleaning clothes. I am not an engineer, but common sense says this is 'efficient nonsense'. VERY, VERY DISSATISFIED!

I purchased a Maytag Bravos in October 2015 and a month and a half later the machine began to make a "tweeting" sound and the clothes were coming out incredibly wrinkled no matter what spin cycle I put it on. There were also times when the clothes came out totally dripping wet like they hadn't spun at all. I called Maytag and they sent out a technician from a local store which was not a Maytag store. When I told him what was going on, his response to the machine turning out very wrinkly clothes was, "Well, why don't you just chose no spin." I said to him, "So the clothes won't spin and I have to take out my clothes dripping wet? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a washing machine that spins?" He didn't say anything to me.
It turned out the machine needed a new gasket motor... after two and a half months... and it would take a week - minimum - before he would come back. Maytag sent me a survey which I filled out and they called a day later. They offered me a six month extended warranty for free. I explained to them that I didn't understand why something mechanical would break after two and a half months but the woman just kept apologizing.

Purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer at Lowe's in 2004. Until recently it worked without any problems; however, the agitator never seemed to work quite right. Normally, an agitator rotates in such a way that the auger action of the vanes pulls the clothes in toward the middle and then down into the water such that you have a continuous cycle of clothing being pulled down the middle, agitated at the bottom, then pushed up the outside. This one agitated but the clothing would just go round and round in the tub. Everything managed to get clean enough, but clearly something was amiss. Recently, the spin cycle became loud. A rumble became a loud roar over the course of a few cycles. Then I noticed water on the floor coming from under the washer. The short story is that the center shaft seals had just worn out. After almost 12 years of use, that's not surprising. What's surprising is that it had worked so long without any issues other than the agitator.
I took it apart and, to my dismay, the water had gotten into everything so that some of the metal parts were hard to remove. After having determined what replacement parts were necessary, I ordered them, but then placed additional orders for parts that probably would wear out eventually. So I ended up doing a near-complete rebuild. Other than the difficulty of taking some of the parts apart, and removing/installing the tub springs, it was actually pretty easy. I have reassembled, and now it seems to work flawlessly... so far. About the agitator: I found that shims are used on the transmission shaft to adjust tension. Too much tension and the clothes just ride around the tub; like mine did. Too little tension probably results in the thing not agitating at all (I don't really know). Once the washer is apart it's easy to set the tension (insert the shim washers) correctly.
There is a clip that holds the shim washers in place on the shaft. It was really tight; somewhat difficult to remove. One of the shims wouldn't fit when I tried to reassemble. As it turned out, that was a good thing. My research on this model revealed the way to get the proper tension. My assessment is that whoever assembled this washer at Maytag (or whoever builds these) assembled it incorrectly! Another thing I found out - after I ordered/received parts, unfortunately - is that there are two types of tub/shaft seal sets for this washer. I ended up replacing the newer type seals with the older type. Everything fits, but I may be losing out on a newer, better design. We'll see. Overall, I am very pleased and impressed with the longevity and reliability of the MAV9501EWW washer. I have had Kenmore and Whirlpool; neither of which was nearly as durable and reliable. I hope this is helpful to someone.

Called Lowe's (installers) and they came out and said it was level. There was something fishy about the grinding type noise it made. Also noticed that in spite of all the noise that the clothes essentially stayed in the same spot while the basket moved. Sometimes the clothes on top never got completely wet or rotated through the wash water.
Called Lowe's again and they looked at the machine and said it needed replaced. But the 90 time period for replacement had passed. Lowe's said it would be repaired. A technician came and replaced the basket, saying it might have been out of round. He left, we used the washing machine and it was worse. He came back an hour later and talked with Whirlpool and they said there might be something wrong with a gear. He's going to replace the gearbox sometime. Meanwhile we are stuck with a washer that makes a lot of noise, vibrates terribly and doesn't appear to do much washing. If noise equated to cleanliness then it would be fantastic. Granted, lots of people do not have any mechanical ability at all and just pay through the nose for a repairman to come to their place for any repair then pay dearly for the service but, I DO have mechanical ability so I do all the work myself. My wife told me tonight that the serviceman told her that they were getting similar complaints from other people who were having that same problem with this particular washing machine made by Maytag. If I knew that Maytag knew that there was a problem with this particular washing machine of theirs that I would never had bought another washing machine from Maytag on 12/29/15 at all. I wish that Maytag would stand behind their product instead of selling this defective product to unknowing customers like me and countless others who thought they were buying a top notch washing machine from Maytag.

There are few nightmares that worm their way into reality, but the forcing upon us of the low water washing machine has excelled beyond man's wildest imagination. A tool which everyone finds an absolute necessity is now a tool which does not work! In reference to this particular machine, there isn't enough water to wet the clothes, it beats the garments with such viciousness, even on hand wash, pieces go missing off the clothes, ripped into oblivion. You no longer can buy a machine which does not SENSE the water level, so we have all been reduced to either buying new clothes every week, or wearing crumpled wrinkled disasters which aren't quite clean, and we get to use 3x the electricity and waste 3x more water, not to mention wasted time in repeating the process in hopes of getting our clothes clean and wearable.

As others have stated, can't wash more than a couple towels or 2 pair of blue jeans. The washer is useless. Purchased Maytag for quality and received crappy worthless machine. Maytag should take returns and refund buyer's money!

I purchased the Centennial Commercial Technology washer in June of 2013. In the last 2 1/2 years it has been repaired 3 times. The transmission had to be replaced twice. My household consist of two adults and definitely it is not overused or overloaded. The washer currently is not working. Consumer service cannot schedule an appointment for repair for 2 weeks. Previous repairs took approximately 2 weeks to schedule a service appointment and it took another week to two weeks to get the part in and washer repaired. I have decided to consider this an expensive learning experience and will not purchase Maytag products in the future!

My husband and I bought a Bravo XL washer in the fall of 2015. I certainly wish we had read the reviews on this site of this product. We would have saved ourselves a lot of money and grief. This machine does not clean clothes and actually damages them during the spin cycle as reported by others. This low water no agitator technology does not work on a top loader. Stuff doesn't come clean! I'm not sure what we are going to do but we learned a valuable lesson the hard way. We purchased this machine in September of 2015 and are unhappy with it!

Bought a Maytag washer from Lowe's 3 years ago and it is just junk. I am 62 years old and never had a washer that actually broke down. What happened to good American technologies. I guess those days are gone, anyway don't buy a Maytag, duh. It is the day after x-mas and I have to buy another machine.

Bravo Large Capacity Washer with Optimal Dispensers - 4.3 Cu. Ft. - The washer's shortest cycles take at least an hour (not including having to do another spin/drain) and uses such little water that I have to use the extra rinse cycle on most loads. The washing machine is VERY hard on the clothes; towels (which I feel are pretty hardy) have been destroyed. Today the machine stopped draining/spinning completely and smelled like it was burning.
I called the warranty number and was told it would be a week until someone could come out. When I tried to escalate a sooner repair date the manager Jessie refused to assist in any way insisting there was nothing he could do. I spent the morning calling my local repair shops and was able to find a Maytag warranty repair person to come out the same day, but had to call the warranty number again and have Maytag place the request. Sorry for the long post, but this washer is the WORST purchase I have made. The warranty experience was very unimpressive. I will not be purchasing anything from Maytag/Whirlpool/Jennair ever again.
