We purchased an LG refrigerator (model # LRSC26911TT) in 2004. The water filter system is broken. We have spent over $300 trying to fix it. Eventually, the techs said they were not able to resolve the problem. They spent numerous calls on hold trying to contact LG. Interestingly, they were always disconnected after a long wait time. I have wasted over 50 hours into trying to solve this problem with LG’s costumer service. Our water dispenser was also broken. After multiple visits and charges from techs, it turned out two wires came unconnected. The face of the system was broken trying to get it out of the refrigerator. Finally, there is no flapper on it to stop the ice from being dispensed once it is full, resulting in a cycle of overfilling and over-spilling onto my floor. Of my 41 years of purchasing items, this has to be the worst item I have ever bought. I will never purchase an LG product again. My hope is that no one else falls prey to such incompetence.

The company for LG called me about a refrigerator I bought (model # LFX25960ST). They said there was a recall. They came out and replaced seals on the fridge and replaced an electric piece in the back of the fridge. They also said that they would be giving me a check for $28.37, this being the difference in their claim that I would save this much in energy costs. It has been several months of calling their number and no check.

After two years with our LG model number LBN 22515ST, it decided to stop working. We had a repair person come out to see what was wrong and he said it was the main board with defrost control which would be $462 to replace. This is almost what we paid for the fridge. I am so disgusted with this company and their so called customer service. My husband tried to be very friendly and diplomatic with them; however, it did not work. So I am attempting to deal with them at this point. We have an oven and microwave from them and I am afraid these too will go out soon! We are not financially able to pay for this part and have been without a fridge for two weeks. We also had to throw all our food away.

My 2-year-old LG refrigerator began to smoke. After calling our local fire department, it was determined that there was a short in the system within the refrigerator and that it was unsafe to plug back in. The lighting cap cover completely melted off the roof of the fridge, along with the plastic covering around the light bulb area turning dark brown from the heat of the light bulbs. Apparently, the bulbs were not shutting off when the fridge was closed, therefore causing the appliance to spark and smoke. Thankfully, we were at home and able to call for help, for had we not been at home, the result could have been devastating. LG claims the fridge can be fixed by replacing the motherboard and all of the melted parts. We are not satisfied with their remedy. We feel that LG should obviously recall this model as they have for several others, and replace or better yet, reimburse us for the cost of the fridge. We do not want another LG product.
We lost approximately $300 of spoiled food, as it took LG almost a week to get a technician to our house to "check" our complaint. We have 4 small children and my youngest became ill due to eating food that had apparently not been kept cold enough in the cooler over the week. We now have to buy a new fridge after spending thousands on the LG fridge just 2 years ago, and in this economy, that is quite difficult.

We bought a LG Refrigerator (LFD22860ST) in January ‘07. Recently, we have run into three problems/issues that many on this site are complaining about. First, the overhead light cover is melting. Second, the door "flipper" is broken and last, the top freezer drawer broke due to the weight of ice cubes. My wife called LG's customer service and was told that LG will cover the cost of the light cover melting because that is a "safety issue". As for our other two problems, well, we were basically out of luck.
I read a post on here that repairing that flipper means replacing the whole door ($500+). Now, what's the likelihood of the other door flipper or even the repaired one going bad within the next couple of years? Pretty good I'd say! May as well buy another fridge and save the headaches. Remember when you could expect an appliance to last more than two years? Those were the days!

I bought a french door style LG refrigerator model #LFD22860ST in April '07 and in April of '09, the little white latches at the top of the doors broke off (one after the other). I found them laying at the bottom of the fridge. I called LG customer service and since I am not under warranty, they referred me to a local service tech who came out to have a look. The white latches that came off are screwed into a black part that is integral to the whole door and I have to buy two new doors and have the tech install them for a cost of over $500 for a fridge that I only paid $1500 for! This is a design flaw. So what happens if I buy the new doors and a year goes by and I am out of the door's warranty again? The plastic part where the latches are screwed into will give out under repeated stress flex again and break off. A complete design flaw that allows LG to sell more doors!

In September of 2007, we purchased a new LG refrigerator (Model LFX219605T), LG microwave (Model LMVM2075ST) and LG dishwasher (Model LDF68105T/01). The total cost was almost $5,000. We immediately (with a few weeks) began to have problems with the microwave, having to call a service man three times. Finally the entire door was replaced. Then it was the refrigerator; the icemaker leaked down the front, the food in the refrigerator was frozen solid, and the ice maker did not work properly. It was also repaired three times, finally the entire ice maker was replaced.
Then we discovered that the dishwasher was leaking. After two trips from the repairman, it was discovered that all the washer and gaskets were bad and had to be replaced. The worst part was that we had a solid hardwood floor and it was damaged during this leakage. Luckily we had purchased an extended warranty, so no out-of-pocket expenses. That is, except for all the flooring which had to be replaced at a cost of $500. I wrote to the President, Mr. Hwang, in April 2009, asking that LG consider some reimbursement of the flooring. To this date (June 22, 2009) I have received no response.
It seems a very small price for such a large corporation to pay to keep me as a customer. Where is there goodwill? Believe me, I will never buy another appliance with the LG logo on it. They have lost my business. In my opinion, all three LG appliances were somewhat defective or they would not have had so much repair work to be done within the first 18 months. To be so expensive, I believe their products do not hold up to my expectations. We have been inconvenienced on 9 occasions by repairmen and it took 2 weeks to have our floor replaced at a cost of over $500.

When I bought my LG side-by-side fridge (model # LRSC26940ST), the water dispenser didn't work. I called customer service (which takes hours) and they made me hold it for 4 minutes. It finally dispensed water. The next time I tried to use it, it didn't dispense water at all. I gave up and used my Brita. A small part that funnels the ice broke. No big deal, but it inspired me now, four years later to see if someone can figure out the problem.
I spent hours on the phone waiting for the LG parts dept. before giving up. I found the funnel on a site called repair clinic. I ordered it and it's on its way. The water thing makes no sense. The filter is charged, the ice works. Somewhere in the innards, the path is defective or blocked or a part is missing, that's all I know now. I'm looking into it, but this thing should not have had defects on day 1 and the customer service got me off the phone quickly when they had me charge the system and they really should have made sure it was all working.

I will never buy any LG product as long as I live. Our refrigerator is a little over one year old and we have had five service calls and another scheduled for tomorrow. First, there was an error message on the LED display and the ice maker didn't work. That took over a month to get it fixed. The refrigerator was working, but I paid for an ice maker and I should have a working ice maker. The gasket has been replaced twice. The crisper drawer cover fell apart. They were cited for erroneously stating the energy usage and to be fair, came out and supposedly fixed it. How would anybody know? It is by far the worst appliance I have ever had in my 73 years, including toasters, waffle irons, anything. Bad, bad product.

I bought my French door fridge in 2007 (model LFC2560). The shelf that runs the full width of the fridge promptly broke. We assumed we'd done something to it so we bought a new shelf and repaired it ourselves. It immediately broke again. Looking at it, it's apparent that a design flaw—there is no center support for the shelf—is responsible. I called the company and they sent someone out to repair it. I told them I knew it was going to break again and what would happen when it was out of warranty? I was considering putting a 15-lb. turkey on the shelf so it would break again because he said if something happened three times, they would replace the fridge. He told me not to worry: they would replace the fridge even if it was out of warranty if the same thing happened again. He gave me a case number and a telephone number. He said with the case number, there would be a history of the problem in the LG database and there shouldn't be any problem.
You can see where this is going. A year and a half later, the shelf is sagging again and the stress broke one of the drawer covers. I called the company, gave them my case number and they said there wasn't one single thing they would or could do since it was out of warranty except tell me how to order a new part. There's no one else to talk to. There's no recourse. They suggested I write a letter of complaint that they will use to improve their product for someone else to buy, not to fix mine. I plan on finding every single consumer review website and posting the same review and complaint. I don't want anyone else to buy this big, expensive, stainless steel brick for their kitchen.

We purchased an LG French Door refrigerator, model No LRFC22750SW, in September 2006 from Sears in Kelowna. It was fitted by the Sears representative into our new home but when we moved in a week later, we found it was faulty. The light and fan were working but not the cooling system. Sears dealt with this failure to our satisfaction. A short time later, we wanted to use the ice making facility so I hired a plumber to make the connections. We returned to our home later that day to find the floor flooded. The plumber returned and discovered there was a piece missing in the system. The piece was replaced.
A few weeks ago, we found the interior light and control panel cover started to melt, and the screws heated and the whole thing was falling down. There was a smell of scorching and a danger of fire. We called an electrician who was an official LG repairman. He called LG and they said he needed to replace the main control panel. This he did and said he needed to order a new light cover and would come back and fit it when it arrived. A day and a half later, we opened the freezer and found the contents completely thawed and ruined. Neither the fridge or freezer was working.
Once again, we called in the repair man, who came the next morning, and he said the new main control panel he had fitted was faulty. There was no starting on the compressor. Therefore he refitted the old main control board, which meant we had no lighting but had cooling. The repairman has now fitted another new main control board, a new light assembly and lamps and everything appears to be working. We have spoken with LG to no avail as the fridge-freezer is out of warranty. The repairman is in contact with LG and we are waiting to hear how we stand.

The fridge developed many broken parts in less than a year. Then the light stayed on and melted the light housing. If we weren't home, the house would have possibly burned. The service centers won't return calls. The store we purchased it from has dropped their line due to lack of service and parts. LG had extended the warranty, but has never been able to get anyone here with the correct parts to fix it. One repairman told me they do not have parts for these. We filed a complaint with PA Attorney General, but they have refused to answer it. In the meantime, I have to keep the bulbs turned out so we do not have to worry about a fire. There is a serious defect with this refrigerator and LG refuses to admit this!

On February 16th 2007, I purchased an LG refrigerator (LFX25960ST) and filed a complaint with Home Depot that the refrigerator had switched labels and the energy usage was wrong. On April 23, 2007, after no help from Home Depot, I started litigation correspondences between myself and LG-E corporate. On May 2, 2007, I filed a complaint with BBB in regards to my complaint with LG and the refrigerator I had purchased at Home Depot. On May 23, 2007, I received a nice letter from LG granting a customer purchase to buy back below the original purchase price. On June 27, 2007, I received a letter from LG engineering explaining the way they calculate the refrigerator's energy usage to be correct. I found it incorrect and very biased. I declined several times the purchase settlement after May 23, 2007 (reference incorrect amount).
On December 26, 2008, I received a cost deference energy consumption check in a DOE (Department of Energy). LGE claim issue to be paid to me for the next 14 years (14 average life of their refrigerator). On June 4, 2009, the lights inside the refrigerator stayed on after the door was shut and melted, (plastic was melted, smell was bad, and food was lost). On June 4, 2009, I reported to LG-E corporate I am ready to accept a purchase replacement settlement. Main reason refrigerator is unsafe, not to mention the labels are wrong on energy usage. I need to get this unit out of my home for my testing is finally done on this model!
All my correspondence with LG-E and its employees has been very respectful. They have always been very nice and helpful getting back to me in a timely manner. The issue I originally had with LG was the energy use of the refrigerator I purchased did not match the UL label on the refrigerator I purchased in the store. The store model said 4.5 amps maximum usage and the one I received said 6.2 amps maximum usage. I have confirmed without a doubt the energy usage to be incorrect (above 7 amps) even after their engineer told me it was correct. I also have more than confirmed the model I have is incorrect on energy usage on your electric bill and unsafe to have in the home. Yes, I would like to be core council witnesses in a class action suit to help those who have also purchased this same type of refrigerator in their defense.

I purchased an LG LCS26905SW from Best Buy on 10/17/2007. After six months, water was pouring from under the refrigerator. It was under warranty, and the service company in Augusta, GA that handles this, Appliance Pros, dispatched a tech who pulled out the refrigerator and said, “You need a new water line,” and said, “$90.00 - $60.00 for the service call and $30.00 for I attached the water line myself.” I called and complained and the charge was only $60.00. Now today, water is pouring from under it. I pulled it out, the water line is dry. The line in the front of the kick plate is dry. I called today and was told, “You are no longer under warranty.” This company sends no notifications like other appliance companies do when your warranty is near expiration. It seems to me their products only last long enough for the warranty to expire. Then you have to spend hundreds of dollars to have it repaired. My last refrigerator I bought from Sears almost 20 years ago never had to have it repaired finally went out. And I got this one thinking I would have a good appliance. It just looks good. This is a rip-off.

I purchased an LG LRFC22750SW refrigerator in September 2005. This is the French door bottom freezer model. It was approximately $1,400. In 2008, the motherboard went, was replaced by a local company for $120. In May 2009, the components that control the lights off switches malfunctioned, causing the plastic light guard to melt and spoiling all food on the top shelf. I immediately called our local repair facility, who stated that they were aware of the issue. It was a common issue but the parts must be ordered.
On May 30, we received a call from the repair facility stating that this problem was common with these refrigerators, and it would cost approximately $750 to repair, half the cost of the refrigerator! This facility recommended that I call the LG customer service center to see if I could remedy this, as it was a known problem. On June 1, I contacted the customer service number for LG and was told that the refrigerator was too far past warranty, and that I, basically, was out of luck. This, to me, appears to be a very unsatisfactory resolution.
If I were out of the house for a vacation, this could have started a fire, destroying my home. If this is a known issue, shouldn't a product recall have been instated? Not to mention, to keep a four-year old $1,400 appliance operating, I have to invest half the cost of the appliance! Not to mention the $120 repair I had to make last year. Should such a reckless, life-safety endangering company be allowed to sell their wares to unsuspecting consumers? To repair this 4-year old unit would cost $750 (including labor), half the cost of the unit.

Customers beware; do not buy an LG refrigerator. I’m sorry I didn't read all the complaints on the Consumer Affairs website about LG defective refrigerators and poor customer service before we bought our LG refrigerator, on 03/10/09. It’s enough to make you cry! Within 30 days of purchase, the ice maker dispenser froze up due to the accumulation of flecks of ice in the dispenser with each use. After about a week’s usage, the dispenser needed to be unclogged. Also, the refrigerator did not cool evenly and froze the fruits and lettuce. After four service visits, including the complete replacement of the ice maker, I knew urgent action would be needed to try and resolve this issue.
Fortunately for me, the defects of the LG refrigerator became apparent near the dealer 30 day return and exchange period and the dealer exchanged it for a similar sized Whirlpool. However in my research, I developed a plan of action that may be of benefit to some of the posters on this Consumer Affairs Complaint page:
Progressive Action Steps: First, call customer service and try and have the problem fixed ASAP when noted. After four service calls to fix the same problem, write a concise certified return receipt letter to customer service, copies to LG Appliance Division President and President of North America at the following addresses: LG Electronics Alabama Inc., PO Box 240007, Huntsville, Alabama 35813-6407. Copies to LG Michael Ahn, President and CEO/North America; Young-Ha Lee, President and CEO/Home Appliance Company, 1000 Sylvan Ave. Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632, (201) 816-3157. If the preceding steps do not work and you are past the dealer return and exchange period, your only recourse is to sue the dealer and LG in small claims court!
Example Letter: The purpose of this letter/email is to return an LG refrigerator purchased on March 8, 2009 and received on March 10, 2009 from BrandsMart, Sunrise, FL. The reason for return is due to the fact that the unit is unrepeatable and defective. The problem is a defective ice maker, which has been serviced 4 times in 30 days from April 13th to May 14th without repairing the unit or determining the problem.
Continuing problem: The ice dispenser freezes continually after a 7 to 10 day period of usage, requiring unblocking and cleaning to function. With only cubes selected, flecks of ice are also dispensed with cubes and accumulate in dispenser opening and freezing. Cleaning creates a watery mess each time. Service repairs by visit (LG rep): 4/13 - unblocked ice jam, cleaned, and tested the circuit, no problems found; 4/20 - unblocked ice jam, replaced ice dispenser and auger motor assembly, and verified temperature and proper operation; 4/29 - unblocked ice jam, cleaned ice dispenser, tested circuit, adjusted water flow lower and set ice cubes to small cubes; and 5/14 - Jayâs service rep unblocked ice jam, cleaned ice dispenser and wrote that he was unable to find a problem with unit. The dispenser flap is closing well. Water is not leaking to a bucket from the ice maker. Ice is freezing up at bucket.
Based on four serviced calls for the same problem, the replacement of the entire ice dispensing unit, the inability of two different service techs to find the problem causing the ice jam of the dispenser in a 30 day period within a 60 day period of ownership and usage, I believe this refrigerator is defective and unrepairable! Please expedite the authorization for pickup and return ASAP! Consequences: emotional distress caused by realization that I purchased an expensive defective product which might result in financial damage!

I purchased an LG bottom freezer appliance on April 11, 2008. The unit would not keep food cold in the fridge or freezer and was repaired on December 30, 2008. The repairman said that the valve for the coolant was defective and the coolant leaked out. He repaired and refilled the coolant. It is now May 2009 and the fridge/freezer is not cooling again. I called Sears and they told me that the appliance was out of warranty. I told them it was not fixed correctly the first time, but they said 60 days had passed and there was nothing they could do.
I should have realized the day after I purchased the fridge and went back to Sears to set up delivery. The manager said he would not have sold me this appliance. It had a small ding on the door but I guess that was not what he meant. Anyway, how can LG get away with this? It seems like they are programmed to go out after one year (read all the other complaints). I am at a loss as I don't have the money to spend to pay a large repair bill and cannot afford to purchase a new fridge. It sounds like this would be a good platform for someone to make a statement on behalf of the American consumers.

Just please include me in a class action suit against this company. Lightning has struck two times. LG offered to buy out the remainder owed on the refrigerator because the compressor kept blowing out. It was slightly beyond warranty. We went to the dealer and bought the last one because it fit into the opening we had built around the first refrigerator. Now, the second refrigerator has a creaky door and makes a strange sound in freezer. Quite frankly, it’s just a matter of time before this goes too. The first time, we lost the food. I purchased the LSC 27950SW in September of 2007. We had to have our ice maker fixed in March of 2008. Now it is broken again. First it would not dispense ice and now it won't make ice at all. The first two customer service reps I spoke to just tried to dismiss me because I am out of warranty. The third gave me a couple of tricks to try. The fourth gave me another trick and the fifth finally transferred me to a manager, who once again told me there is nothing LG will do to help me. The funny thing is, I asked all six people if LG offers extended warranties. The sixth person told me now LG offers them, but I am too late since I purchased my refrigerator in 2007. So instead of the $99 it would have cost me to extend my warranty, now I will spend over $200 to have my ice maker fixed again. I have to pray it does not break again next year.
You know, good companies like Whirlpool and Frigidaire send you a letter/bill when your warranty has expired and they offer you an extended warranty. I will never buy anything from LG again. My dishwasher sucks too (it smells and the dishes are never clean). I've been searching the internet and finding all of the complaints people have with LG, so I know I am another unsatisfied customer. PS: Now I hear it might not really be Energy Star approved.

Inferior and expensive product needs a recall. LG will not replace if over one year old. I have the French door LG LFC25670SB and it's about 2 years old. I experienced the same issue that several folks on this site complained about - lights not turning off when the door is closed and smelling of burnt plastic within the fridge. I have other LG units (front loaders) and they have been solid units. I called their customer service and took a different approach. Their call centers are pretty high tech (based on my call) and I asked the CSR what the number one problem people have with this unit. She, of course, told me the melting controls within the unit.
So after little conversation, she initially asked how old and whether or not I purchased the extended warranty (I did not). She asked for my receipt (faxed copy) and then put me on hold. She came back within a few moments and told me that LG would resolve at zero cost. A tech is coming out this week and I trust that this will be good to go after he leaves. The root of the problem is that these units were manufactured in Korea and LG is having all kinds of issues with the units manufactured in 2006.

We purchased a brand new, still in box LG French door refrigerator in July 2008 off of CraigsList. It was being sold only because it wouldn't fit in the seller's kitchen. Last week after nine months, it stopped cooling. I called LG and was given 3, count them, 3 companies who work on them here in the Charlotte NC area. We have two pro sports teams, and only 3 companies are authorized to work on LG refrigerators. Can you believe it? Well, three was an over estimation, since the companies were actually in towns outside of Charlotte Metro area. However, I still called them and two of them laughed and said they don't work on them anymore because they weren't worth the trouble getting parts along with the constant array of other service related problems. Can you believe this? These are people LG authorizes to fix their stuff.
Well LG was stunned but really did nothing more than tell me they filed a complaint against the companies. I'm sure the companies are "shaking in their shoes" about now. One lone company in a tiny town outside Charlotte is sending someone out today. I have made it easy for them as compressor oil is all over the floor. I called them and gave the model number in order to save an extra trip. I sure hope the compressor isn't in Korea, but I haven't heard back, and that's not a good sign. Anyways, the moral of the story: don't by an LG piece of crap, unless of course you buy the one I'm dumping on CraigsList the moment it gets fixed.

I bought the top-of-the-line LG refrigerator about 2 years ago. Ice make never did work consistently and there were other things about the unit that I didn't like. But the major problem happened about 2 months ago. The refrigerator burned up from the inside due to the lights staying on even with the door shut. Unit had a melted top and the light receptacle was fried. I had an extended warranty from Home Depot that refused to cover the issue because it was a manufacturer defect. LG gave us the runaround with calls and faxes and finally offered to give us $1800 prorated for the $3000 refrigerator, unbelievable! Their product almost burns down my home and they want to prorate the unit's replacement value. If anyone else has had this problem, please contact me and let's see about a class action suit. Thanks.

We bought our LG fridge, model LFX25960, in June 2006, but didn't install or start using it until September 26, 2006 because our home was under construction. In the first year, the computer board, ice maker, and the crisper drawer broke and had to be replaced. Luckily, they were all still under warranty. Since that time, we have had to replace the ice maker two more times; the frame holding the crisper drawer broke, and the automatic defrost fan motor, and now the computer is shot again.
When the fan broke down, I phoned LG. They told me I was no longer under warranty and should look at getting it repaired on my own. What he didn't tell me was that the error code on the computer display meant that my fridge had completely shut down. This had happened in the evening when I couldn't get a tech to my home. When I woke up the next morning, I found all of my food spoiled and the frozen food in the freezer was thawed.
All of these major repairs in 2 1/2 years are totally unacceptable. Every time I phone them about the problems we have been having, we get the runaround. The call center staff is well-trained to not connect the consumer with management. I spoke with their local warranty repair tech but he was not interested in helping solve this problem. I am totally fed up and want to join the next class action suit against this company.

He said they have to order some part. It took three weeks until they called to come and replace the part and they didn't show up. When I called them, they said they sent the wrong part to the tech and he didn't even call us to let us know about it. It has been three weeks past and they haven't called us. When I called them, they have no answer and they kept telling me that I have to wait. I told them to please replace my refrigerator but they said no. I called LG and they said the same thing. They said they have to send someone to look at it and I'm still waiting for them too. Is there any number to complain about this people or sue them? What kind of business is this? I called customer service of Conn's and LG and both are not responding to my complaint. They don't care.

We purchased an LG Refrigerator (Model LFC 22740ST at a cost of $1400) on 9/11/2007 at Best Buy. In June of 2008, we spoke to LG about a "helicopter whirring noise" coming from the bottom freezer section of the refrigerator. We were advised by LG that this sound was normal (didn't sound normal to us). We again spoke to LG several times during the course of the next nine months regarding the noise that wouldn't go away and were continuously advised by LG to unplug the refrigerator for three hours and then plug back in.
To make a long story short, this has been going on for the past year (and of course) the warranty has now expired. Finally, this past Tuesday, after once again being told by LG to unplug the refrigerator - we called one of their recommended service companies. It turns out the whirring noise was due to a defective controller which cost us $200 to replace on a 1 1/2 year old refrigerator which cost $1,400. This is totally unacceptable! This is apparently an ongoing problem with this type LG refrigerator which they were aware of, but neglect to share the information with the consumer when calling customer service.
When purchasing this refrigerator, we did many hours of research before making this purchase and thought we were buying a dependable brand name. Apparently, LG has quite the scam going and I would definitely not recommend purchasing this brand. Please include us in any class action suit that hopefully will be brought against this company and this model refrigerator.

I purchased an LG washer, dryer and refrigerator in 2008. I have required maintenance on the refrigerator immediately. It was a nightmare dealing with LG Customer Service and maintenance. I have also consistently had a problem with my LG washer (Model # WM2455H). The washer has a terrible odor which requires that you leave the door open after each cycle and it leaves an awful discharge in the rubber seal after each cycle. This causes your clothes to retain the odor, resulting in many items having to be rewashed. LG claims this is a maintenance issue which is my own responsibility, despite having maintained the washer as directed in the manual. This washer is still under warranty; however, LG refuses to acknowledge this as a repair issue. I see numerous complaints on the internet with consumers having the same problem.

I bought this refrigerator almost 3 years ago and it sat unused for a year as my kitchen was not finished. I sold my motorcycle and wanted to use the money wisely and wanted the best refrigerator for my new home. When I first started using the LG, I noticed the ice maker would not shut off, so I just turned it on and off manually as I needed ice. After less than a year of use, I had the same problem with the light not shutting off and melting all of the control panel and lens. I went back to Home Depot because I was told by the salesman that this had the best warranty, seven years, while others only had a year. Of course, he then told me that it only covered certain items and not this. I left so I did not strangle him.
I then called LG and they refused to help in any way because I was now over the warranty. I was enraged and still am. Today, the unit quit altogether and will not run. I know a man who does refrigerator repair for Sears so I called him for his advice. He knew immediately of the problem as many of these LG units were sold under the Kenmore brand name. He said they have been repairing these even after the warranty expires, by replacing the computer board and installing a new light unit with overheating protection in it. He told me to buy a new board and install it myself, as he would not get involved due to the safety issue. I have ordered the parts. I'll leave the light off for now. Grrr!
What is wrong with this damn company or where is our protection as consumers? I am anxiously awaiting a class action suit so I can be a part. Who is it that we contact to start such action? I will also forward this info to the Atty. General's office in my state. Do the same.

In November of 2007, I purchased an LG Refrigerator from Sears. It was the new models that had the french doors at the top and the freezer drawer at the bottom. In February of 2009, I received a letter from LG stating the following: Based on guidance from the Department of Energy (DOE) about the interpretation of the testing rules for refrigerators, LG Electronics has changed the energy rating on the model I purchased. The rating now reflects higher energy usage than was indicated by the information on the labels and other materials at the time I made the purchase. The letter then states that I may be entitled to cash payments for past energy usage and future energy usage as well as a modification to the refrigerator to make it more energy efficient but still not what was posted when I bought the refrigerator.
On 2/23/09, I called the 888-848-1266 number listed on the letter and informed the customer service rep. that I felt as though LG did not misinterpret any energy ratings and I think they were caught red handed with giving false ratings so that consumers would buy their product over a competitor's. The customer service rep. transferred me to a supervisor named Wendy. I explained to Wendy that I wanted my unit picked up and the purchase price refunded to me. She said no units were being picked up at that time and the only thing being offered was what was in the letter. I asked to speak to someone above her. She said she would have to put in a request for that. I asked for a phone number and she said there was none. She said I should get a call back within 2 days.
On 2/26/09, I had not received a call so I called and spoke to a customer rep named Tina. She transferred me to Wendy. Wendy claimed she had put the request in and would check up on it so that I would get a call. On 3/5/09, still no call. I called back and spoke to Lionel. He had me on hold for a few minutes. He came back, said Wendy was busy, and I could leave a message to have her call. I left another message. I then called 800-243-0000 to see if I could get anywhere and could not get past a customer service rep named Rick. I wanted the corporate phone number and address. He would not give me a phone number but gave me an address of PO Box 240007, Huntsville, AL 35183. I sent a letter on 4/6/09 with delivery confirmation to that address with my complaint and request. I still have not heard one thing from LG about this matter.

It happened to break down on a Saturday so when we called, they said they couldn't do anything for us until Monday. So of course, we lost all our food. So Monday morning, we called LG. Now with most companies, you just call a direct line and work from there. Oh no, not with them. We called over 5 different numbers. When we finally got a hold of someone from LG, she was extremely rude and said basically they aren't going to deal with us because our warranty expired!
After arguing with them for over 10 minutes, she said she could get someone out sometime Thursday or Friday! I told them I haven't had a refrigerator since Saturday. This is unacceptable! Then she had the audacity to tell me that I should have taken care of it Saturday, when it broke, if I needed it fixed faster! But they told us Saturday we had to wait until Monday! This company is so unprofessional they can't even keep their stories straight. Then they told us after a third party comes on Thursday if it's their fault, they will then order the part and it takes about a week to get. So basically I will not have a refrigerator for 2 weeks! They were so unwilling to help us and rude. This is the worst company I have ever dealt with! In all my life I have never heard of a company refusing to fix their product. I purchased an LG refrigerator with French doors and freezer on the bottom at the end of 2007. I tried returning it because of design flaws but Home Depot would not take it back. Well the design flaws have now gotten to the point that one fresh food drawer has broken off the track. The deli meat drawer tracks have both cracked enough that the drawer nearly falls out. It’s just my husband and I. We are people who buy things and take care of them so that they look like new years down the road. I have never had a product fall apart like this refrigerator. I have talked to LG and never received a call back. The refrigerator all and all is of poor design.
When first installed, LG came out twice to level it. The doors do not fall shut as they should and when one door is opened, the other opens and unless you push on both they do not shut properly. We have had trouble from day one with all the drawers coming off the tracks; far too easily than they should. The refrigerator no matter what setting we put it at freezes all the food at the top. The water dispenser was designed for glasses that should only be two inches wide and eight inches tall. I have to put my hand around the glass and use the back of my hand to activate the water dispenser to fill our glasses. I have not lost food yet but as each thing keeps happening, it is probably only a matter of time. I hate this refrigerator. It is poorly made and service is atrocious. $2,000+ is what this appliance cost and I can't afford to waste my money. I would tell everyone of thinking of buying one don't.

They replaced the parts that caused the fire, and said the rest is cosmetic and they are not responsible for cosmetic problem. The damages to the inside of the refrigerator is a direct result of the fire. Another major repair is the board and fan. An energy kit is supposed to be installed. I was informed about the energy kit from the appliance repair shop. LG took several weeks to get the correct paperwork to the repair center. I called to have the relay switch repaired and was told they are installing an energy kit. The fire inside the refrigerator could have set the home on fire, with family members and pets in it. The ceiling of the refrigerator melted and cracked.
The fire could have set my home on fire. I have a damaged $3000 product that I expect will have more problems in the future and I fear could go on fire again. LG is being irresponsible to the consumers. Their customer support is awful. They are unreliable, dangerous, and untrustworthy. LG has accepted monies for items that claim to be energy efficient and reliable. The refrigerator is not energy efficient based on the standards as it was sold; therefore, the cost to run the product is a loss.
The cost of the food at approximately $300 is a loss. Direct from LG's website is LG Electronics innovative technologies, unique products, and cutting-edge designs are an investment in the future? Then I read the article in Consumers Reports magazine about it not being Energy Star-compliant. I contacted LG about the compensation and modification through their website. They never responded. Finally, I called them. I was informed the part is on backorder and would not be in for several weeks and that there would be a yearly compensation even after the modification as it would still not be as energy efficient as originally stated. I just went to the fridge, and opened the door. The light was on and then abruptly went off and the burning plastic smell became very noticeable. I unplugged the fridge, let the lights cool off, and removed the light bulbs.
I also am sorry I bought this LG brand. I’m very disappointed. I called LG. Now, I cannot seem to get anyone to answer, but I am left on hold for over thirty minutes. I have another call back to the repair service. I agree that some sort of action should be taken against LG to make them responsible for neglect to the consumer. I am also concerned about the fire hazard. I, fortunately, was at home both times that I discovered the problem. When I got a glass of water at 2am was how I discovered the first one. The LG people want me to sign off on a $1,000 check and sign off on the responsibility; not to mention the ruined contents of the said unit. I have no unit, and I have this mental anguish from thinking if our next refrigerator will go on fire while we are sleeping. I am getting fair help at all from the parties responsible. Thank you, Robert **. This is a well documented defect according to what I have read online.

We also had the problem of the lights staying on and melting the control unit. The dealer, a small local store, responded very well; replacing the parts themselves at his own cost since LG refused to help him as the refrigerator was out of warranty (22 months). However, he asked us to pay the labor, which was about $70. I was not happy about this, which caused me to call LG myself (1-800-243-0000). They immediately admitted to a problem, even before I started into my case, and said they would cover all cost. The dealer and LG are now working it out. I expect to get back my check for the labor. I intend to register the problem with the Consumer Products Safety Commission (http://www.cpsc.gov/) as a potential fire hazard. I believe the fault is such that LG should consider an active recall, not just wait for complaints.

On September 30, 2007, my husband and I purchased a new LG refrigerator, stove and over the range microwave at Home Depot in Davenport, IA. The appliances were delivered to our home on October 4, 2007. The refrigerator that we purchased cost $1,402. It is a stainless steel side by side model. A few weeks ago, on January 1, 2009, we noticed that all items inside our freezer had thawed out, and that our freezer and refrigerator had stopped cooling. We are a family of six so we had a lot of groceries. We hurried and put them on our screened in porch to see what we could salvage, but we still lost at least $100 worth of groceries. I immediately called LG to report that the refrigerator was broken. At that time, they told me that they could not assist me because I was not under warranty with them anymore. The warranty on the refrigerator was only for one year, and we were three months out of our one year warranty.
They gave me the name and number of a repairman in my area that I could call to fix the refrigerator, but I would be responsible for all labor charges since we were out of warranty. The repairman came a couple days later and immediately diagnosed the problem since it was a known problem with my model. He had seen others with the same exact problem. He told me that he would need to order a part and run some tests, but he was 80% sure that our refrigerator would be irreparable due to this defect; however, LG would require him to try and repair it before they would replace the unit. That visit cost me $180 for work that was under two hours.
It is now January 22, and we are still without a refrigerator. The repairman finally was able to do the final testing on January 20, and at that time, determined that our refrigerator is irreparable because LG doesn’t give you the option of buying the part that is needed to do the fix. LG considers our unit contaminated and will not allow a repair. I phoned LG customer service on January 21 to find out the procedure for getting a replacement since we have now been without a refrigerator for three weeks. They now tell me that they don’t have intentions of replacing our refrigerator since we have no warranty left. I’m absolutely appalled at how this can be. We have a refrigerator that our repairman has deemed as irreparable due to a manufacturer’s defect, and LG doesn’t see a need to help us or replace the unit that is only fourteen months old? So we spent $1,402 on a refrigerator one year ago and we lost over $100 worth of groceries and there is no help or compensation for our troubles.
We had nothing to do with this refrigerator breaking. Our fridge was put together incorrectly and now we have to pay the price. I feel this is an outrage. How can LG be allowed to do business like this? LG is supposed to call me this afternoon to let us know what they may do for us. I was told if anything, they may send us a very prorated voucher since our refrigerator is a year old and has lost a lot of value, or they may decide to send us a refurbished refrigerator with a 90-day warranty. This is extremely unacceptable, and I hope that other consumers never have to go through the nightmare that my family had to go through. I can’t even count all the numerous phone calls and hours on the phone with LG to try and get this resolved, only to find out that in the end, they are not going to help us by replacing the unit anyway because they feel they don’t have to because we have no warranty. Please advise if you can be of any assistance to my situation. I’m a completely helpless wife and mother of four small children that needs a refrigerator.

My husband purchased the LG French door refrigerator (model# LFC25760ST) on 12/06/06. We haven't had a problem with it until 01/20/09. I opened my refrigerator to a burning plastic smell. The temperature control and light assembly was melted away from the top of the unit. I got on the phone and called the number on my paperwork which was to LG. The lady told me to unplug the unit and let it cool down and then remove the light bulbs, and then plug them back in. The lady got my information and said that my warranty had expired. I told her that we had an extended warranty, and she said that I would have to contact the company it was bought from for the repair. Well I did, and then I was told it would be 24 hours before someone would contact me for the repair.
My question is, if LG knows about this problem, why haven't they recalled these units or sent someone to repair them before this happens? Thank God I caught it early enough that I didn't lose any of my food. Now, I'm concerned that there is some sort of electrical problem with this unit so I am still worried about my family and my home. What can be done about this? I think that we should get a class action lawsuit against this damn company.

I told them that the LG refrigerator (model LFX25971) we purchased from Home Depot on 10/11/08 and installed on 10/28/08 was running 75% of the time. Also, when the refrigerator is running, it makes a low humming noise that appears to vary in frequency. I told her we received a letter containing a check for $7.94, which was to cover past energy usage from date of purchase to 11/14/08. They will modify the refrigerator to make it more efficient, and then they will send an annual cash payment for future energy usage.
Yari transferred me to Linoshka, who said they could do the modification late in January. When I asked if this would also correct the refrigerator running so much, she said she would transfer me to another department. As typical during the so called transfer, I was cut off. Rather than calling back, I sent an email to LG requesting a replacement of the refrigerator with a new model that did not have these problems. Nothing has happened yet. This refrigerator has the new LED lights, so I don't anticipate any problem with that.

I purchased a fridge from HHGregg on 7/14/06 and on 8/22/06, I had to make a service call because the freezer had ice crystals in it. They said the defroster was not coming on and they replaced the circuit board. Then about a month later, the light panel melted and burnt. They just replaced the plastic part covering the lights. Again, the light panel melted and this time, they replaced the door switches that control the lights. I had to call a third time due to the lights not going out when the doors are shut and they replaced the entire light housing, cover and circuit board again. I would not buy another LG product again.

I needed a part for my 1-year-old LG refrigerator. I called the only east coast supplier of LG parts. Imagine, Kim at Vance Baldwin could not find part number, so she said Wayne (the parts Guru) is the only one who can help and that he would email me with the information. I called back 24 hours later since I did not hear from Wayne. Lisa (snippy) said I would have to wait until Wayne can get to me, he is backed up. That was on January 5th, and I still have not heard from Wayne.
I will never buy an LG product again if Vance Baldwin is the only east coast supplier of parts. They do not care about customer service at all. I got the part from Sears. They found the part number immediately. LG didn't even notify me that I could get the part from Sears. I did my own research. It was just a huge annoyance, and a lot of wasted time.

We bought an LG refrigerator double door with bottom freezer. The first time it gave an error message and stopped cooling our food .We called a technician who charged as $525 to replace a mother board; this did not fix the problem, it only worked for a while and was giving the error messages again. The last technician we called to look at it was honest enough to not take our money and advised there is no fix for the problem! The only temporary advice would be to turn off the fridge and let it defrost for 72 hours (that's 3 days with no access to fresh food for a family of four including a toddler and an infant). We did this. And today, we turned it back on and within an hour, the error message was back and it is still not cooling.
We have already spent $525 to get a technician out to the fridge which did not fix the problem. We live in-town with no room or space for another freezer or alternate fridge when the LG refrigerator stops working. We have a 1 year old and 2.5 year old who need food/milk refrigerated and fresh. I have previously gotten food poisoning before realizing the fridge was not cooling the food. We have to buy or eat out every day for a family of 4 is costing us dearly, including the gas needed to go out every day and get food and the time. Each time the fridge goes out and stops cooling the food, we are forced to dump all the food that we cannot consume. Then we have to restock; our regular grocery bill is $200 a week. When we have to restock, it goes as high as $350.

We have had the melting, burning light fixture issue and the frozen vegetables problem in our LG refrigerator. LG is repairing our unit. But a couple of days ago, we got a letter from LG regarding their French door refrigerators and issues with energy efficiency. The letter included a check for $76, a promise to retrofit the refrigerator and compensation for 14 years for the energy efficiency issue. The letter also states that if you sign the check, you cannot hold them responsible for anything.
Has everyone received this and does anyone know of a class action lawsuit? I don't want to cash the check or do anything until I figure out if there is something else that can be done on a bigger scale that will help all of us impacted. It seems that at the very least, we should all have our refrigerators replaced; but I am not sure who to consult. Consequences: the inside of our refrigerator was smoking, the light fixture was melted, and all the food was hot to the touch. We narrowly avoided a fire in our kitchen. We cannot store produce in our unit without it freezing.

French door refrigerator: first one delivered leaked water all over my floor! The second unit’s ice maker failed to work. The rubber insulation around left door fell apart. Customer support the second time around was virtually not available! Home Depot sent an unauthorized (Spanish-only speaking) "repair person" to help… to no avail; he was also drunk. Finally, I got a hold of somebody who quasi-cared at LG... had the unit fixed. The rubber insulation less than three months later is falling apart.
I received a letter from LG indicating that our unit is subject to excess power consumption (their only reason why we were drawn to the LG French-Door unit) was much higher than indicated at time of purchase. LG wants "us" to cash a $60 check, releasing them of any liability. I called LG, they don't care about customers. Do not buy anything LG! Also had a cellphone from these makers of **! Last Monday, I noticed a strong electrical burning smell in the kitchen. After investigating, I found it was coming from the refrigerator. When I opened it up, the plastic cover for the lights was lying on the glass shelf. I attempted to pick it up, but it was too hot to touch. I immediately called LG. They told me that there was a problem with the lights in the fridge and to unplug it. They would send a service tech to fix it, even gave me the name of the company they would send. Two days later, no tech. Called again, and LG said they would not cover this problem, my extended warranty would. Called Home Depot extended warranty dept, they said no way they would cover this. This was LG's problem, and they knew it! Back on the phone to LG, they are having me jump thru series of hoops, and as of today, the fridge is still not fixed. I asked LG if they wanted the house to burn down and have my insurance company subrogate against them? I don't think the tech support person understood what I was talking about. Terrible customer service so far!!

I purchased an LG French Door refrigerator March 2007 from Best Buy. Yesterday, October 20, 2008, I smelled a burning plastic odor near the refrigerator when my daughter opened and shut its doors. I opened the doors, discovering the overhead lights extremely bright and hot, the plastic cover and light assembly melting, and the entire refrigerator warm, contrary to the 36 degree digital display on the front panel. I tried to cut off the lights using the doors' pressure buttons, but only succeeded in starting the blower motor. Fearing a fire might start, I tried to remove the light bulbs, but they both exploded, spraying shards of glass on me, throughout the kitchen, and inside the refrigerator.
Seems like it oughtn't have done that! I have an extended warranty, but only because the salesperson offered to back the cost into our final negotiated price. Now, I'm anxiously awaiting the typical multi-visit; don't have the right part; must have been my fault; call LG - who says call Best Buy - who says call the repairman - who says not my problem, man, appliance repair service company with the Best Buy lowest bid contract.

I posted earlier about my Sears (LG) refrigerator almost catching fire because of the lights staying on. After reading about the other LG complaints I repeatedly called them until I got a service technician. My refrigerator was over a year old. It took 5 visits, each visit being a weeks wait, wrong parts ordered, wrong parts sent to do a 15 minute swap out of the mother board (it has a bigger capacitor on it now), interior lights, and temperature module. Sears did explain that they had received a service notice on the problem and corrected the situation at no cost. However I had to do a lot of screaming in the beginning.
One thing that did get their attention was what another individual stated they did and that was telling them you are going back to the the credit card company and filing a complaint. Along with that I was ready to call the better Business Bureau, and notify your state attorney general. Now ironically my refrigerator is starting to have the low constant hum and I am afraid the next problem is going to be the FF error. I also noticed that the frost had built up on the back freezer wall a lot. It's really a shame that consumers of LG products have to go through these hassles and be place in a fire risk situation.
We've spent thousands for these products and I am not sure what a consumer product safety site is for if they do nothing but just let us vent and not help establish a class action suit against LG. It's time we put an end to companies like LG that produce hazardous products and put consumers at risk. I urge each of you to contact the 3 organizations I listed above and file your complaints. Then go back and tell Sears/LG you have done so and you won't stop until their products are recalled and money refunded. I am disappointed in the consumer safety products has not taken action to eliminate this problem. At the very minimum demand your product defect be corrected and don't give up. We need to keeping calling LG/Sears until they become accountable for their actions. And it's small but spread the word to all you cannot to buy LG products. I've already detoured friends from even looking at LG's products who are shopping for appliances.

The authorized repairman came out and told me that the card had to be replaced. It will take 7-12 business days to get the part. This is ridiculous. Have they never heard of overnight express?? I suggest you stick with a well known US brand that you can get repaired on the same day and not have to wait. No more LG for me. Ever!! BTW the repairman told me that LG purposely builds their refrigerators to fail and consider them expendable items. They don't make them to last 25 years anymore. So plan on replacing your LGs every 5 years. Once this one dies, I'm going to Sears.

Our most recent and worst problem was when the lights stayed on and melted the light sockets, lamp cover and display case. I didn't have any problem getting the technician to come out. They actually diagnosed the problem over the phone saying the main control board was the problem, and now LG has an updated version. At a cost of $362.94 they could fix the problem. When I called LG they told me that the warranty was only good for one year that they would not cover any of the cost. I explained that this a defective part and is a major fire hazard but they didn't seem concerned at all. Before this LG refrigerator purchase we had an Amana for over 20 years without a single service call. It was still working when we gave it away - we just wanted a new updated refrigerator. In the year 2005/2006 we did up our entire house interiors - from flooring, to new electrical wiring/fittings, paintings, tapestry, curtains, kitchen cabinets and the works basically. All the household appliances were equally new. We had purchased 5 split ACs, 1 tower AC, 2 fridges (1 - 2door DIOS 700 ltrs n the other 450 lts), 40 and 42 TV all LG products, besides all other house appliance of various other makes.
From the month of March'08, we have been complaining that the ice dispenser was getting choked and not functioning, besides the ice in the above ref. side tray was getting full. Every 2 hrs or so we had to pull the tray and empty it out. In the mornings we would have huge pool of water under the fridge, also there was ice on the glass shelves that was forming on the ref side in the DIOS fridge. The engineers would come and do some settings and go, but the problem did not sort out. We had to take this matter to some higher up, then I was told that the fridge being 700 ltr capacity, was not utilized fully so the engineer decided that he will change the controller unit to bring it to a lower capacity, which we refused and asked him to repair the same. But some controller was changed and I had to pay Rs850/-(Indian rupees). After changing, within a month, we had a major blast in the house and our entire kitchen was fully gutted along with all the appliances, and the soot had damaged our entire house - from the floor tiles, to our clothes, curios, tapestry, curtains, paintings, art etc.
We immediately informed the company personnel to visit the site to check the damages and also the fridges. They came from their Mumbai office, their HQ - New Delhi, Pune office, saw the damages, checked the fridge, took photos, made their reports, and that is it. We requested them to help us out by servicing or replacing the ACs/TVs etc. and pay for all the damage caused, but suddenly they have changed their stand and say that they were not allowed to enter our premises to check the damages. This is the type of company that LG is portraying themselves as.... Brand of Lies, deceit, bad service, faulty/sub-standard products which they are dumping all over the world. The whole light unit melted and there are burn marks above and in the light sockets.
Good thing we caught it over night rather than after a weekend away. We ended up taking the lights out and now have to find our food in the dark. Very disappointing. While I loved the refridgerator at first, I will never buy LG again. I am afraid what the next melt down might bring.
Interior of the refridgerator is scorched and melted all around the light unit. Several hundreds of food items gone to waste each time the FF error code comes up - at least 2 times a week.
