It's a $3,000.00 piece of crap. In the 3 years since my purchase, the refrigerator's inside shell has cracked in the bottom corners and all along the bottom at the front, the rollers have broken off the drawers, the cover to the light has melted, thick build up of ice has to regularly be removed from the bottom of the freezer in order to open or close the freezer door, I have to keep a wet vac beside the refrigerator to suck up the water that puddles up around the outside of the refrigerator, from time to time the digital controls seem to have a mind of their own and all light up at one time, and I have to unplug the refrigerator and plug it back in to turn them off.
I gave up calling the repairman out to my home twice within 1 year about the ice build up in the bottom of the freezer. He claimed it was because I have pets (?), but within 2 weeks, I could hardly get the freezer door open or closed due to the thick layer of ice in the bottom of the freezer. With the current one, I've lost everything in my refrigerator compartment, because it quit cooling completely and the water pooling around the front of the refrigerator is as bad as ever.
I got a letter from LG saying they'd send me an annual check due to the false low-energy rating attached to the unit at the time of sale, but I've yet to see a check.

I have an LG Icebeam door cooling fridge/freezer that is approximately 5 years old. The door fell of the fridge at 04:00 in the morning. Upon inspecting the problem, I found that the bottom portion of the door has bent open and it resulted in the door becoming dislodged from the hinge. It was found that the plastic part that is supposed to hold the metal part has become brittle and started breaking off, resulting in the metal portion of the door to open up. I am a big supporter of LG products, but was really disappointed in the short life span of this fridge. The front plastic cover of the fridge below the door also broke as it became brittle after only 2 years of use, and as it was out of guarantee. I did not see it as a major problem. The door needs replacement, and I will have to buy a new fridge to use as this one is currently unusable. I suffered loss of food stuff that was stored in the door such as milk, and eggs that broke.

We purchase an LG refrigerator as we had heard it was one of the best brands available. What a mistake! The noise the fridge made was like a train coming through our kitchen any time it started up. I tried working with their customer service department via e-mail, but my complaint was only passed on and never resolved. Eventually, we replaced the fan motor, which brings the cool air from the freezer to the refrigerator section. That seems to have helped, but not because anyone at LG cared or tried to help. We will also never buy another LG appliance. But, if you have the same problem, this may help you.
The motor and technicians cost us about $200--money that should not have to be spent on a 1.5-year-old refrigerator. But, I guess this is a lesson learned. I do have to say Adolfo at LG was consistent in his response, doing nothing.

I bought an LG refrigerator in September 2008. Within the first weeks of ownership, the ice maker failed. It was supposedly repaired twice before it was completely replaced on the third service call. It was under warranty, so there was no charge, just inconvenience. Now in March 2010, the entire refrigerator has failed completely. I am waiting for a part to arrive. It was explained to me that it was a type of "motherboard". Since no fuses are replaceable, it takes a complete new panel. This unit is less than 2 years old and the two major electronic components have failed. LG should be ashamed of themselves selling such faulty equipment to the public. The consequences were the loss of hundreds of dollars worth of valuable groceries.

We purchased a LG refrigerator and the 2nd one delivered has a strong odor that smells like moth balls. The dealer said that it was a packing tape and sealer that has the order but it is now making the food smell also. LG does not want to address this issue. We have had 2 units delivered and still do not have a refrigerator that we can keep.

The plastic is breaking by the day. The inside lights are stuck on, the freezer gets iced up and every thing quits working because the condenser coil gets dirty. You have to take the back off to clean the coil. What happened to simple coil on the back you could dust off easy? It is always something wrong.

I purchased LG french door fridge model #LFX25971SW/1, serial #8055KRSB00318 in November online through a licensed LG dealer. We installed it ourselves, plugged it in. The next day, there was one load of ice in the ice maker, that was it. I called LG, they said to adjust temp in the fridge and freezer. No difference. They said to call Seward Appliance Repair 402-643-3344 and have them out to look at it and repair it. Long story short, Dan from Seward Appliance Repair has been in my home enough times to be on a first name basis with myself, husband, kids and pets! They have documentation of everything they have tried, at least 3 new ice makers, new water valve, sensor, the list goes on and on. Every time, it makes one load of ice and stops.
In addition, the fridge is way too cold. Anything sensitive, lettuce, green onions, cilantro, parsley is frozen in the drawers they are supposed to go in and the fridge, freezer and drawers are set as warm as they can be set. Also, door opening on the right hand side results in a terrible creak noise every single time. The repairman has been out here no less than 6 times with the same results, nothing. First, let me say I bought the fridge in November since my old ice maker was not working (15 years old) so we could have ice in our home for holiday parties. All I have done is purchase ice the entire 4 months I have owned the "new" fridge, that and replace frozen produce. Talk about embarrassment to have company in your home for the holidays when the ice maker doesn't work and the door makes a loud noise when opened.
Ya, I am real proud of that new LG fridge and let me tell you, I make sure everyone knows how pleased we are with our "new" LG fridge. I wish I had never purchased an LG fridge in the first place. This was our first ever LG appliance and it will be our last. Next time, I will stick with a Maytag, GE, Whirlpool etc. I really wish I had. I will also make sure anyone who I know is purchasing new appliances knows the problems we have had. Every time the repairman has talked to them, they always say "Well, I don't understand why it isn't working, try this". After realizing all our problems with this fridge, I got online and found all the problems and complaints with this LG model fridge and know why they have discontinued it for a different model. I would seriously like my money back and have them come get this piece of junk out of my kitchen.

My 4-year-old bottom freezer refrigerator has its interior plastic mostly cracked. The supporting parts for drawers are in pieces. The wall in one spot has foam showing (not sure if this is a health hazard). Also, the freezer never worked properly because it accumulates ice and stops working. It needs to be defrosted like in the old times.
This is the worst refrigerator I ever bought in 42 years of married life. Our US appliances have lasted us 24 years (Maytag), 20 years (Kitchenaid), 15-20 (Whirlpool). We never expected this kind of disaster. What should we do? We have not contacted anyone yet, because the plastic breakage started recently and it's progressing daily. From what I read in other reviews, we will probably have to buy another refrigerator. From now on, we will stick to US brands (even if manufactured abroad), because of the ethics.

We purchased an LG refrigerator in August of 2008 and it stopped working February 16, 2010. Period. Stopped working. Our repairman says it's just a fuse, but LG has created a control board that has the fuse permanently mounted in it. We can't just change the fuse for $5.00. We have to change the entire control board for $400. So I called LG customer service and talked to several different people. The first thing they ask is, "Did you purchase the extended warranty?” No, we didn't. We firmly believe that manufacturers should be able to produce a product that lasts more than a year and a half instead of expecting the consumer to shell out more money for an extended warranty!
I asked if the company would stand behind it, since it's only been out of warranty for six months. I was told to fax the receipt to the company. Of course, they gave me the wrong fax number. It didn't go thru and I got a kickback message from the fax machine. So I called again and got another employee who gave me the same (incorrect) fax number. Then he corrected it. I started getting the idea I was getting a run-around. So I faxed again, believing that my request would be reviewed and I would be notified in 24-48 hours (according to the customer service rep). No call. So I called again and was told my info hadn't been entered into the system (corporate-speak for "we don't want to bother with you, go away"). I asked if my info had been received and didn't get a straight answer.
So I talked to a "supervisor.” She wanted me to fax the info again! This was Friday afternoon and I didn't have the receipt at work with me anymore. I couldn't fool around anymore without getting my repairman going on actually making the repair. I am truly disgusted with this company and their "customer service" department. Their website goes on about their "code of ethics" and "management by principle," but they have taken planned obsolescence to new levels and are ripping off the consumer. Build a product that lasts and stand behind it LG!

LG replaced my refrigerator after 11 months of non-working ice maker and freezing of vegetable. When the installation company came to install the refrigerator, the front doors of the unit were misaligned. I asked them to readjust them and they said they could not. I would have to call a repair service company to do it. This is just another example of LG's inadequate customer service. The doors are still misaligned. LG said I would have to pay for it to be done!

I did an extensive remodeling job for some fine customers on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. The work included a total remodel of their kitchen. They bought LG appliances from Home Depot and right away the ice maker door would not close right and stay closed. A serviceman was sent out twice. He finally replaced the plastic ice maker housing, which included the door. Then the whole refrigerator failed. The serviceman came out again and said that the compressor had failed, which means no refrigerator.
LG has been totally unresponsive. My customers should have a new refrigerator. LG seems happy to sell their products and then not want to back them up. This is really foolish PR. I am a builder and a mediator, and you can bet that my customers and I will spread the word. LG has a consumer complaint webpage that says they see every complaint as an opportunity to prove their commitment to their customers.
They lost frozen food and got a tremendous inconvenience of not having a refrigerator!

The light bulbs in my LG Refrigerator, model #LFC21760ST, caught fire, burned the housing and the liner of the refrigerator on December 28, 2009. The refrigerator was inspected by a contracted, local LG repair company, that confirmed that the refrigerator was non-repairable and needed to be replaced. I have made 10-15 calls to LG trying to get a resolution. None of the departments can communicate or work with each other. I phoned the company on January 29th and was told my case had been rejected.
I pushed the matter up the chain - only with threats of filing a complaint with Consumer Affairs and with the DA's Office if I didn't get resolution that day. Only then was I allowed to speak with someone who could resolve the case. She said I would receive a phone call within 7-10 days from a local freight company with the day I could expect the refrigerator to be delivered. That was January 29, 2010 and I still have not received a phone call. This model has a history of the lights and housing catching on fire. There are vlogs, by the dozens, about individuals who were lucky enough to have had someone at home when this fire occurred. LG should have a recall on this refrigerator model before someone loses their life or a house burns down. I am hopeful this matter will reach the appropriate authorities who will look into this product that contains a fire hazard serious enough to cause an electrical fire.

We just bought two months ago a new fridge (model number LSC27910SB) and the ice dispenser don’t work and it makes a horrible grinding sound. I called customer service and they gave me the local repair place they work with in our town. Guy came out and said the electronic part went out and he would order the part. He came back once and he got the part and replaced it. The next day it still wasn't working.
I called LG customer service again. They gave me another name of company to call to repair. I called them and I don't feel comfortable they will fix the problem. I will tell you this. I bought all new kitchen appliances and washer and dryer. The only thing I bought LG was the fridge. My husband wanted that. Everything else is GE. We've had no problems with GE and I now wish I would have bought the fridge as well. Looking at all these complaints, I'm all in for a class action suit. They need to be held accountable for what they are selling and the price they're charging is no small change.

Purchased LG refrigerator in 2006 and have been unhappy with the appliance since the beginning. Have had ice maker worked on twice, when it was new, but the main issue is the ice has a horrible odor and taste. I have noticed this at other people's houses but always thought it was the result of a dirty freezer. I live alone and am an immaculate housekeeper, including the refrigerator and freezer. I have contacted LG several times about the problem and they say it's because I leave the water in the "tank" too long. However, even when I empty several gallons of water and toss the ice, I continue to have the problem. My suggestion, do not buy an LG product.

I purchased an LG refrigerator in September 2008. Within 2-3 months I had to call a technician regarding a problem with the unit, specifically the ice and water units. They supposedly fixed the problem but we still experienced intermittent problems.
Around September 2009, we started experiencing problems with the refrigerator again. The read out on the front started giving us an error code. I called the company and was told to unplug the refrigerator and let it reboot. This accomplished nothing. The problem continues to persist.
I called many times and was told to reboot again and again. Finally, I was referred to an appliance company that repairs LG refrigerators. As it turns out, LG has never given training to these technicians regarding repairs to their refrigerators. We have since had the company out 3-4 times to fix what LG says is the problem.
Each time they ordered what they were told was the problematic part and each time the part sent, it was not the correct part. We have not been able to use the refrigerator for several months now because it quits working whenever it pleases. We paid a lot of money for this unit and have had nothing but headaches with it. I purchased the extended warranty and it seems that means nothing in getting this appliance fixed in a timely manner.
This situation is becoming extremely stressful in that we are not being dealt with in a speedy and expeditious manner. We are spending money buying groceries more often because we cannot rely on the refrigerator to keep our food cold and safe to eat.

We have an LG Model LRFC22750ST refrigerator, which was purchased new in 10/2005. We dad a problem with the freezer door, the seal was concave (factory defect) and didn't close right. LG replaced the fridge on 11/20/2005. Since then we have had to replace the motor fan, the ice maker assembly. On 1/27/10, we noticed that the food on the top shelf was extremely warm and in looking, discovered that the light bulbs continue to stay on when the doors are closed. There are 2, 60 watt bulbs.
The bulbs got overheated and melted the plastic housing all around them. Thank god we were home and it didn't start a fire. I called LG and their response was as always, "Sorry it's no longer under warranty". I went on the internet, and found hundreds of posts of the same problems with LG refrigerators. This is a fire and a safety issue! I can't believe these things have not been recalled. If you pull it up online, you will see its many different model numbers. The physical damage was just to the bulbs, the housing around the bulbs and the top of fridge where they connect. The economic damage is of course the fridge itself, and quite a bit of food. I had an LG Dishwasher (actually 2, as they had to replace that one under warranty too). The 2nd one leaked under the floor and ruined my wood floors in the kitchen & dining. I got the same response, "not under warranty".

A different rep said, “Too bad, out of warranty.” The rep gave me a phone number for the service company. I was told to "pay it yourself". I can't get the service company to call back. Our LG refrigerator of 2 years has died. It is not fixable. We were told that LG's policy is that if something is not fixable, it is replaced. We have been told several times that it would be replaced, only to later be told that it would not be replaced because we do not have an extended warranty. If a part could fix our refrigerator, this would be a non-issue. Without me having an extended warranty, I of course would buy a part that would repair my refrigerator. However, no part exists! and we were told by our tech that it is a fire hazard to use our refrigerator in its current condition.
Our tech and LG's tech have agreed that the refrigerator is not fixable. After two months of going back and forth with poor customer service, we have been told that LG would buy back our refrigerator at a discounted rate instead of replacing it. This is very insulting and does not show any corporate integrity. It has taken a financial toll on my family. In reading about the company's code of ethics (listed below), I find it is not in line with my experience. The biggest area of discrepancy is number three: "Providing Value". We were told that we would receive a new refrigerator, and then were told we would not. We were told of LG's policy of product replacement (stated above), but that policy and promise have not been fulfilled.
Our requests have not in any way been met in a manner of speed and accuracy. Our experience has been the exact opposite. Value number three talks about offering "top quality products and services to our customers". I am wondering if an irreparable 2-year-old refrigerator meets the standard of "top quality products". I also wonder if 2 months of going back and forth without reasonable results meets the standard for "speed and accuracy". Let me outline a chronology of what I (and my family) have experienced. I think you will be in agreement that the company has not been true to its values.
In the beginning of December 2009, our refrigerator stopped cooling. This was our first refrigerator for our first home, and we purchased it two years ago. A tech came out and ordered a part from LG to repair the refrigerator. (Note: even though we did not have an extended warranty, LG did not charge for the part). When the part came, the tech said when he went to put the part in, he found out that it was not the right size, and also, he discovered that the back of the refrigerator was all cracked. He stated that he had not seen anything like it. He said he could put his hand through one crack in particular, as it was that large.
The tech said he could not fix this refrigerator. He said that he would call LG to see about replacing the refrigerator. He said that if he put the part in for now, it would be a fire hazard, so we turned off the refrigerator altogether. Our tech called and discussed the situation with an LG tech. When the model number was given, he said the reaction of the LG person upon hearing the number made him wonder if others have had problems as well with this particular model. It was initially reviewed and we were told that it would not be replaced because we did not have an extended warranty. I understand that since we did not buy an extended warranty, that if a part is needed, that we would pay for that.
I would be more than happy to pay for a part that would fix my refrigerator. However, no part exists. Our refrigerator is not fixable. It is a thousand dollar lemon. So LG said they would have to have our tech call LG's tech again. We asked the tech to call LG again. He did not understand why this was necessary as he had already explained the severity of the product failure to the tech. However he agreed to call again, and he repeated the same information to the tech as he had the first time. The case was reviewed again. Then we were told that it would be replaced and that previously LG did not understand the severity of the damage to the refrigerator.
At this point, calls have been going back and forth for a couple of weeks. Then we were told that although the refrigerator would be replaced, it would not be until after the New Year because of a new computer system being installed. We were also told that it could be 4-6 weeks after the New Year before we had a new refrigerator. We called after New Year's to follow up but we were not able to be helped because of problems with the new computer system, so we were told we would have to call back. We then called back, and we were asked to send in our receipt.
We sent in the receipt. We called back. Now we were told that the case had to be reviewed by a supervisor. We were given the impression that in fact, it had not been approved to be replaced, although this was inconsistent with what was presented to us prior to the New Year. We were told that it would take 3-5 days for the supervisor to review the case. I called back in 7 days and the person answering the phone checked the computer system and said that the supervisor had not reviewed it. She said that she would submit it to yet a different supervisor who would be certain to review it in 3-5 days.
I did not hear anything in over a week and a half, and my husband called and found out that the supervisor had denied us a new refrigerator. (Note: I am uncertain why LG cannot call me to tell me the outcome of reviews. Myself or my husband has initiated every contact with LG in this process). My husband was told that this was because we did not have an extended warranty. My husband talked to a different supervisor named Valerie who stated that it should have been approved, so it would be sent to another supervisor for a second review. But of course, it would take another 3-5 business days. This last conversation happened on 1/22/2010.
At this point, I am extremely angry. I called on 1/22/2010 and talked to Jewell who is a supervisor. After two months of remaining calm, I am now very angry, and I explained the whole situation to her. I told her that if there was a part that would fix our refrigerator, that we would pay for that because we did not have the extended warranty. However, she stated "this is not an extended warranty issue" She stated that LG's policy is to replace unfixable refrigerators. She said that our tech and LG's tech were in agreement that it was not fixable, so she is uncertain why the replacement was denied. So she said she would send it to another supervisor for review, as it should not have been denied per LG's policy, and again, it would be 3-5 days.
When I explained how frustrated I was to hear it would be another 3-5 days, she said that she would ask for the process to be expedited. Today, I called to follow up and I was transferred to the department that handles replacements. I cannot recall the name of the person I spoke with. She reviewed the file and said that it was denied to be replaced because we did not have an extended warranty but LG would buy back our refrigerator at a discounted cost. Again, I went through the whole chronology of events and frustrations to this individual. I asked who I need to talk with and she said that Becky is my case agent. I asked for the name and number for Becky's supervisor and this employee told me that she is not allowed to give out that number.
I am astounded that I am not able to have a phone number for a supervisor who oversees my case. I told this employee what Jewell had previously stated to me about LG's policy, and this woman told me that Jewell is not authorized to speak to whether or not an item will be replaced. This employee was not very compassionate or understanding. She is the most frustrating and least helpful person I have spoken with to date. You can check your own records for her name in order to follow up. This has been an awful process. I have shared this experience with many people and they are astounded that we have remained calm up until this point.
Let me explain the toll this has taken on us. We have been without a refrigerator for now 2 months. My family consists of myself, my husband, and our now 13-month-old daughter. We have been living out of coolers. For two months! My daughter had her one year birthday party at our house, and we did not have a refrigerator. Christmas has come and gone, and we did not have a refrigerator. Same with New Year's. Can you imagine not having a refrigerator when your one year old begins eating table food? Anything she does not finish, we often have to throw away. We are unable to feed her any fresh foods. And we hope that her milk has been kept cool enough.
Luckily she has not become sick. If she had, this discussion would be happening in a court room. Here are the costs of this experience for us so far, in addition to the refrigerator: We have been spending 20 dollars a week for ice for the two coolers. To date: $160. Cost of eating out. We each have had to eat out often a couple of times a day. Wasted work time calling company. Each call often took 20-30 minutes. My husband does not have an office-based job, and has had to pay for going over cell phone minutes in trying to resolve this issue.
We have used more gas going back and forth to the grocery store nearly every day to buy a couple of items just for that day. We have been unable to have people over at our house. We have been unable to cook food in our home for two months! We often have to throw out food that has not kept in the cooler. Eating out often, and all the other items stated above, have been extremely expensive for my family. Many people would ask for compensation for all of the above issues. We are looking at a case, where it was decided in early December that the refrigerator should be replaced, and here we are nearly two months later, without a new refrigerator.
We have been incurring all of these extra costs, during a time when the economy is poor. At this time, I am not asking for compensation for any of the above items. I am just asking for a new refrigerator as soon as possible. However, my patience is wearing thin. I would assume your company would stand by its product (and its policy) and replace a poor product. Truly, I just want a refrigerator. I have never experienced anything like this. I feel that LG still has a chance to redeem themselves in my eyes.
Here are my concerns broken down: Although the folks answering the phones initially are very nice, they appear to be reading off of a script. They have no power or authority to make anything happen. After two months, we are very tired of hearing "Sorry for the inconvenience". One time my husband asked to speak to a supervisor, and he was told that it wouldn't change anything if he spoke to a supervisor, because it had to go through this process. I was told that I could not be given a supervisor's number or extension. It appears that this process has so many steps and red tape, that each person is responsible for a certain part, but nobody who has any power over the bigger picture is involved.
If they are, we did not know how to reach them and actually were denied at times. I am concerned that LG would not stand by a product that died after 2 years. I feel that LG has been extending this process hoping that we would wear down and give up. I promise that the only acceptable outcome to this is to receive a new refrigerator, and I will not stop until this end is reached. Even if it becomes difficult. It is a matter of principle as well. If I have to involve outside parties, I will.
I feel that whoever is over the entire process (not just supervising a piece of this) needs to be consulted. I am not going to tolerate having to go through several more departments, more red tape, and more waiting, in order to receive a product that works. I know that there is someone who can make this happen quickly. Please forward this letter to the appropriate executive that has the power to fulfill the promise of replacement in a timely manner. Thank you for taking the time to hear my concerns and my experience.

I purchased a LG Refrigerator Model #LFX25960SB in November 2006 and after 1 yr 2 months, I came home to a completely frozen refrigerator section. Absolutely everything was frozen solid in the upper part of my $2049 refrigerator including my sun tea jar which busted into pieces. Now 3 years and 2 months after purchase, the refrigerator almost started on fire! I thought I smelled something hot and it turned out to be the light bulb's socket on fire. Where you screw the light bulbs in, it is black. I unscrewed the bulbs and called LG. They told me, "too bad", it was over 3 years and the warranty was up. I would have to pay for a service call and parts. I told him I spent $2049 and had no intention of spending one more penny on this refrigerator and hung up.
I then researched to discover that a number of these refrigerators have had the exact same problem. I don't understand why there is not a recall, potential fire and nothing is being done. I called LG again tonight and got a different customer service rep and now they are sending a technician and paying for parts and labor because it is a known problem. They say it needs a computer panel replaced and it will be fine. I will never buy LG again! The energy rating has also been wrong from the beginning and I found out that if you register, they have to send you a rebate and pay you annually as long as you own the refrigerator. I plan on doing that as well.

We bought an LG refrigerator in October of 2006. It wasn't delivered until February 2007 and wasn't really in use until April 2007. We were renovating our kitchen and didn't finish until then. Anyway, about 6 months after we installed it, little pieces of plastic kept showing up all over the refrigerator. I couldn't figure out what was breaking. As time went on, bigger pieces started breaking off and now we're up to chunks of plastic breaking off. The glides on the drawers are broken, the hinges on the door are broken off, the light cover is cracked. The bin covers have completely broken off.
In other words, anything that is plastic inside the refrigerator (except for the actual inside shell itself) is either completely broken, cracked or chipped. We started calling LG's customer service department (coincidentally) 1 week after our warranty expired, and they refused to do anything because the warranty had expired. We've tried to explain to them that it's not a warranty item, that the whole interior of the refrigerator (not the shell, but the rest) is made of defective plastic and should be replaced.
We've been trying to convey this for 2+ yrs. Finally, during conversations with an LG representative, in December 2009 and January 2010, they agreed that if we would pay to have an authorized LG representative come out and say that it was defective plastic then they would make concessions for it. Their representative came out on January 14th (which I had to pay $100 for, out of my own pocket), said it was obviously defective plastic, not owner abuse or normal wear and tear. He called LG, from my house, and reported his findings.
The LG tech said to fax him his report and they would give us concessions on the equipment. I faxed the report to him the next day. We didn't hear anything from them for a few days (meanwhile another big chunk of plastic broke off) so I called them. I requested a supervisor, who said that they weren't going to do anything for us because the warranty expired. I was shocked. I went through the last 2-3 yrs with her again over the phone and her answer was, "Sorry! Your warranty has expired. There's nothing we can do."
I asked her why she made me pay $100 to her representative if the answer was still going to be "the warranty expired"? She basically said, "it is what it is!". She eventually said she'd send my request to corporate for their response, which surprisingly was "We aren't going to do anything for you!".
I think this is so wrong. My parents had the same refrigerator for 30yrs and never had anything like this happen. For this to be defective plastic, not even wear and tear or abuse by us, and for them to do nothing is not right. There are so many websites full of people with this exact same problem! Something needs to be done about this.
Instead of LG doing the right thing and fixing this for us, they are hiding behind their customer service reps. You can't get a corporate address, phone number or anything past their customer service people. I've never been so angry and frustrated in my life. I would never buy another LG product in my life, and quite frankly, I'm surprised that America is allowing them to get away with ripping off our citizens like this. It is so wrong.
Who can I go to for help regarding this issue? $2000+ may not be a lot of money to some people, but it is a lot of money for us. Not only do I not have money to go buy another brand new fridge, I can't even keep things on the shelves, of this one, because the shelf holders are broken. Keep in mind, we've only had this thing for 3yrs and we've been dealing with this after having it for only 6 months. That's crazy! Again, my parents had the same refrigerator for 30 yrs! Somebody help me. Please!

The Ice maker broke. We stopped getting ice,and the flap on door didn't work. The tech came and couldn't get parts for three weeks. LG sent wrong parts. We waited two more weeks for new parts. Tech fixed refrigerator and then the cooling fan was not working. Again, we waited for parts for another two weeks. We had to go buy an ice maker in the meantime. Tech comes again and replaces the fan. The fridge worked for three weeks. Besides all this,we kept telling the tech that the front panel was leaking and leaving water marks that will not come off.
None of the techs handled this problem; they blamed us. We then lost water again because the main hose for the water and ice maker exploded in the middle of the night and flooded our basement. The tech came and said we need a new hose. This took weeks because they couldn't get the part because it "never happens". He took it off a fridge in one of the showrooms. He puts the new hose on and leaves and never turns the water on to check if it's working. Of course, when we turned the water on it did not work. We called again, now we are told we need a new relay and couldn't get the part for three weeks.

We bought an LG 3-door, bottom freezer, refrigerator about 2 years ago. It is the worst refrigerator we have ever had. All of the drawers or their guides have cracked or completely broken. The ice maker is the slowest in history. It takes about 8 hours to fill its tiny bucket. The chute gets clogged about once a week and you have to remove the bucket and clear it. The switch for the light in the refrigerator quit working and melted its fixture. To remove the bulbs, I had to break it open because it had welded together. When you contact LG, they just tell you "your warranty has expired". So I guess their products are only built to last as long as the warranty. Buyer beware! Well, my days of buying LG products has expired! Do as I am doing and tell everyone you know about this company. Maybe we can drive them out of the US market.

I purchased an LG 3 door french style refrigerator (model number LFTC2376ST) on June 18, 2008. On 12-18-09, I took my shelves out for cleaning, and noticed that there were substantial cracks. I generally do not put very much weight on these shelves, aside from an occasional gallon of milk. I contacted LG in regards to my shelves, and they told me that the refrigerator only comes with a 1 year warranty, and that they could not assist me with the repairs. My concern is not so much the cost of having to replace the shelves. It is a question of the quality of the product. Should I expect to have to replace these shelves every 1.5 to 2 years? Are the shelves only built to last that long so LG can continue to make money, the way printers and ink cartridges do?
The component of the plastic shelves are brittle and falling apart to little particles. I have 4 years Home Deport warranty, but it did not cover removable parts. I am debating to have someone to make shelf for it, or to replace the self to support the two veg drawer. It costs $217.00, that will last for another 1 1/2 years again. Also,I have two other shelves that cracked at the same location. If anyone has a chance to read this article, please save yourself from the trouble. Do not just purchase for look or style. Purchase items that are more functional, and durable. Life's good (LG).
The materials that make up the tray or shelves fall apart after almost 2 years, like a potato chip. The materials are very poor that it cannot hold the weight of a gallon of milk and juice to family of three.

We bought the LMX25981SB French Door refrigerator from Best Buy at the end of August '09. The unit worked fine until it broke down completely the second week of December. I called LG and reported that neither the refrigerator nor the freezer was working. They sent a service man that was not experienced and had to call LG back and forth to figure out what was wrong. They determined that the compressor had to be replaced. The local service didn't have it, so LG had to ship it a week later!
The service man came to replace the compressor and after further testing determined that the original compressor was okay, but another part had to be replaced and the unit had to be refilled with Freon. The refrigerator was repaired and worked fine for a week! Then it broke down again. LG sent another service contractor who deemed the unit irreparable and reported it to LG the same day. This was right before Christmas so I was told to contact LG after the holidays and they will make a decision on replacement and let me know how to proceed. I called after Christmas and spoke with a manager, Ms. Valerie M who told me that LG has a problem with their "system" and nothing can be done, but they will call me right after the New Year. Nobody called, so I called them on January 5th and I was told that it will take 24 to 48 hours for a different department to make a decision (remember, the refrigerator was deemed irreparable by the LG service tech.) and call me back.
Nobody did, so on January 7th, I called again and I was told that my case is being reviewed and I will be contacted by LG within 3 to 5 business days. I demanded to speak with a manager again but I was told that all of them are busy and nobody can talk to me. So the case continues and I don't know how it will end. On top of that, who will reimburse us for all the spoiled food, twice! This is just a warning for those of you who might consider buying LG product. They would send someone out and there would be no charge. I told them my fridge seemed fine but they said it needed to be changed and also offered an incentive, a small check as a reimbursement for extra energy the fridge had consumed for not running at the proper temperature. I agreed and American Unlimited Electronics came out on 3/4/09. The paperwork stated mode modification and mechanism malfunction.
Again, this was not my complaint. Not long after, the fridge really did begin having difficulty. I kept re-arranging things and adjusting the thermostat. Recently my food in the fridge especially the crispers started freezing. There literally is ice forming on the food. I called back LG and told them that the part they replaced was defective and they needed to come back and fix what they did. They said sorry, I'm out of warranty. We purchased a brand-new LG refrigerator (model # LRSC 26940SW) in July 2007 from Appliance Direct. One of the features it has is a jet freeze versus express freeze. Less than a year after we purchased it, the refrigerator kept on switching back and forth between the jet and express freeze cycles. In May of 2009, the refrigerator shut down completely, and we lost everything in it. I called and the service person told me to unplug the unit for 3 hours to reset the computer in it, and everything should be fine. I did as I was told, and yes, the compressor kicked back on when we plugged it in. Well now, we are in December and the compressor again shut down. I tried unplugging it for 5 hours to reset the computer, but this time it didn't work.
So I called LG. This time, they tell me it is out of warranty and to call an authorized service repair company. They gave me two companies. The first said they no longer service LG. When I asked if it was because they were terrible appliances, they said yes. The second company came out, and the technician had to call LG as he had never seen anything like what he saw when he opened the back. They told him the main circuit board was defective and the defrost switch was bad. Being that we had only owned the appliance for 2 and a half years, I called LG again. Valerie, the "Executive Service Department" contact, told me that although I had only owned the refrigerator for 2 and a half years, it was manufactured in 2005. Being that, it's 4 years old and they would not help with the repair. This leads me to believe that since it only comes with a 1-year warranty, the warranty was moot because when I bought it, it was already 2 years old.

Second problem is the refrigerator area temperature goes down far below 32. It freezes all the food. This problem happens 3-4 times a year especially in spring and autumn. Whenever it happens, I have to discard all the food in the refrigerator, 3-4 times a year the past three years of using LG refrigerator. I called CS, but they say it's not a problem. It's just the result of the circulation of the refrigerant. If it's not a problem, why does the refrigerator freeze all the food? It's supposed to maintain the temperature of 34 degree that I set up, but it goes way below it and freezes all the food. I really regret the purchase of LG and its services. I didn't get the Best Buy warranty (big mistake) because LG provided one. It didn't make sense to buy another and I assumed that anything was wrong they would make right. Not! They sent someone out to fix it. I took 1/2 day off work for the repair guy, he looked at it, called in parts and then set up another appointment to replace the parts and I took another 1/2 day off work. This happened another 4 times. The 3rd time I asked them to replace it; they said, "No, we need to try and fix it again."
The 4th time (9/09) they said the same thing but also, "If this happens again, we will replace it." I told them that the next time it will most likely be out of warranty. They said, "Don't worry, if it is the same issue we will take care of it." Well, here we are 12/16/09 and all my veggies are frozen again. I called LG and got the same runaround. The worst of it is, there is only the customer rep and a supervisor and no one above that person to talk to. She then told me my fridge is now out of warranty and she would have to extend it. I am like I want it replaced! She said, "Ma'am, I can extend the warranty and have it repaired again or you can deal with it yourself." So, of course, what choice do I have? I also asked, "How many times does the same issue have to be fixed before you will replace it?" Reply was: "Ma'am, I can't answer that."
I asked, "What happens if it does this again and the extended warranty is over?" She responded, "Ma'am, you will have to see if you can get it extended again." Best Buy can't do anything because I didn't buy their warranty. They wouldn't even take it back when this first started. My advice is, from now on when you buy a major appliance, buy the warranty from the store and verify their replacement policy up front. Do not ever buy an LG appliance. I have their dish washer and love it. I love the fridge when it works. When they work, their appliances are great. The problem is, if you get a lemon, you will have to have it fixed over and over again until they finally say "No, sir/ma'am, we cannot extend that warranty again." That is enough for me to not buy another LG.

On Aug. 13, 2007, I purchased an LG French-door refrigerator (model LFC25760SB) at Home Depot for $1400. In the last year, the ice maker has had frequent problems like spilling over and jamming the drawer. The internal water line to the ice maker failed and caused a leak that has damaged our tile kitchen floor, cracking tiles and compromising the subfloor.
Several months ago, I noticed the freezer frosting and ice shrinking and it's taking a very long time to make. Then it got so warm in the freezer that an entire box of popsicles thawed and gooed the main bin and everything in it. I followed the manufacturer's recommendations to "reset" the freezer and it helped minimally. After I finally gave up my denial over the failure of my $1400 unit, I called an LG-authorized service company whose number LG has supplied me with. I was told that I had a "sealed system leak" that would in the end cost me $700 to repair. Before he came, the freezer was reading about 20F degrees. It now is reading 27F degrees.
I find reports similar to this on multiple websites, so I know I'm not alone. One doesn't expect to buy a new fridge every two years, and I recently lost my job. Most reports on the internet show that LG is unwilling to stand behind its products, so I'm discouraged before I call back again.

American Home Shield does not cover ice makers (what a joke this is, I am paying for a premium policy and this is not covered). I’m trying to call LG once again because Canada gets a 2 year warranty and US gets only a 1 year warranty. I do not feel it is my responsibility to pay for a new ice maker when it is less than 2 years old. I come to find out this model has been discontinued and there are a lot of complaints about the ice maker not working anymore. I feel it is a lemon and LG is not owning up to it.
The second time I called LG, the nasty customer service rep basically told me I am SOL. Could you believe it?! I will never buy LG again! We purchased an LG refrigerator with the bottom freezer drawer and ice and water on the door. We paid almost $1000 extra to have the ice and water on the door. The refrigerator has had problems since we purchased it. The water pressure was terrible and it took forever to fill up a glass of water. We called LG several times to get help and finally ended up calling a plumber and replacing the water line ourselves. The ice maker jams continuously so that every few days, you have to open the ice container and chop up the ice and clean out the shoot. Both hydrator drawers have broken (the plastic pieces where they insert into the tracks break off with almost no pressure).
LG did replace one of the drawers when the rollers could not be repaired but the other drawer they just sent replacement parts with no explanation. After we called, they did send out a repairman to fix the drawer. The front piece of the drawer (plastic) also broke off and is beyond repair. I do have to say that for the first year, while the refrigerator was under warranty, LG did fix everything that was broken with the refrigerator. It's just that this was an expensive refrigerator and one would expect that things would not be breaking in the first year. We have continued to have problems but it is no longer under warranty. On further inspection when the lights were bright and very hot, we noticed that the upper control panel had melted away from its screws and was hanging free with the lights still on even if you push the buttons to simulate that the doors are shut giving access to exposed wires. We brought this product on the basis of the Kenmore-LG reputation. I guess we should have done more research. We are out of $1,800 for a piece of junk. Is this what we get for being loyal to the Kenmore products and believing in your company?

I have an LG French Door refrigerator (Model # LFX25960ST) that nearly caught fire. The interior lights which has 2 60-watt bulbs wouldn't shut off when the door closed, heating up plastic and nearly melting. I had to unplug it for a period of time to unscrew the bulbs and prevent further hazard. Looking online, this appears to be a concern with others and I think that there should be a recall as this is a potential fire hazard.

We own an LG model #LFX25960XT refrigerator with bottom freezer. We had issues of parts breaking and hairline cracks on drawers/shelves within 3 months of purchase. After 3 wheels had fallen of and shelves breaking, we went to Home Depot where we purchased the product since LG wouldn't honor those breakages because the warranty covered only mechanical parts. Home Depot folks were great in cataloging parts and ordering new parts for us, which we replaced at home.
3 weeks ago, the freezer (at the bottom) defrosted. At first, I thought the ice maker was acting up. After calling the repair number given (this happened on a Friday), a date was scheduled and the repair person didn't show. Meanwhile, the freezer started to work and after a few days, items were put back into the freezer. One week later, a service guy was able to come and he checked the freezer thoroughly, but because it was now working, he had nothing to fix. At least I have documentation of the issue in case our warranty runs out and it happens again. I do not know if LG would honor it anyways. We think the workmanship on this LG unit is extremely cheap and will stay away from LG in the future as our LG dishwasher is now making weird noises.

I called while under warranty to relay that it was frosting and freezing up in the freezer all over including the ice, food, and outside of the plastic on the drawers. This was while in warranty and said I didn't need a repairman. They replied on the phone that I must have left the freezer ajar and to unplug and totally defrost it. And of course, after warranty, this same thing has occurred so many times plus the ice maker causing problem, etc. At this point, the freezer internal plastic parts have all cracked and the top shelf dropped down. The slides and the outside at the bottom are cracked.
I'm 68 and this refrigerator is less than five years old and I've hated it since the beginning of the trouble. I can't take it anymore. I went out tonight and bought another refrigerator on sale over $3,000. My nerves are totally shot and my husband is tired of helping me unload, defrost and go through the process another time. I will also take pictures of it. I thought it would last the rest of my life. Wrong. It's going bye-bye. No more high blood pressure and tears. I have fibromyalgia and the wear and tear on nerves and body of loading and unloading won't take it anymore, plus a phone call while on vacation from house watcher that check all refrigerators and deep freeze. The executive service team, **, asked me to fax the proof of purchase, which I did. He then called a few days later stating that they would not cover any service. I have a "lemon" of a refrigerator and I believe many others do as well. LG knows they have this problem, I am sure, but they cannot repair it to the customer's satisfaction. We purchased an LG LFX23961ST French door refrigerator back in June of 2008. It is only 14 months old. Thank goodness we bought the extended warranty. About a week ago, the Friday before Labor Day, the control panel on the front of this LG read FF ER. I notified the Geek Squad. Their policy is to book you an appointment 5 days prior to the visit. So the tech came in. He told me that the freezer fan was not working because the sensor that keeps the ice off the fan was defective. He said that this particular model made in 2005 through 2008 has this defect. He advised me to defrost this appliance for 24 hours.
According to the LG website, they only advise you to unplug your appliance for 4 hours. Anyways, he said if this doesn't help, then call the Geek Squad to make another appointment. Guess what? It didn't work, same problem. Another 5 days later, the tech came in, said the freezer fan is not working. He placed an order for parts. I asked him if he can just consider this a lemon and approve a replacement. No deal. Another 5 days later, the parts arrived. We got a technician to come in on Saturday, the 12th, and she attempted to replace the parts and get this thing working. She says that although the previous tech ordered the correct parts, they don't seem to fit in the housing. Huh?
After seeing our frustration, she made the call to her management and finally got approved to get this piece of junk out of here. My wife and I go to Best Buy in West Covina. We were so happy because we thought this nightmare was finally over. It's not. We are told that the replacement fridge won't be available and won't be delivered until Oct. 4th. I purchased an LG stainless steel French door model fridge model # LRFD22850ST in 2007 and now it is beginning to have problems. The lights stayed on in the main part and melted the light shade. I thought that I had possibly left the door open a crack and this is why the lights stayed on. In order to test whether the lights were staying on, I put a bowl of water on the top shelf and discovered in a very short time the water was heating up (lights were staying on!). I also noticed a burning smell, and then noticed the light sockets were brown from burning. I unplugged the unit, removed the bulbs, and phoned customer service. They said they would try to get approval to have it repaired at their expense even though the warranty on parts and labor has expired.
I expressed my concern about this being a serious potential fire hazard and would like to know where I could report this to LG as it is an obvious flaw in design. I was not given a direction to follow in order to pursue this concern any further. I also asked if this has been a problem, but told nothing! This time, the response from LG was much different and they constantly reminded me that they had already replaced the part once out of courtesy. When I asked them why I should foot the bill for an obviously defective refrigerator that is 2 years old and cost nearly $2,000.00, they replied that it is my responsibility to purchase an extended warranty.
"Why on earth should I have to purchase a warranty to cover the repair of a defective fridge?" I asked. "Why should my $2,000 purchase not last more than a year when I have a $400 fridge that has been fine for 15 years?!" My initial encounters with customer service agents were somewhat sympathetic, but once I was passed along to a supervisor, they were condescending and placed the blame on me for not having an extended warranty. I am sick to my stomach. I do not have the money for this repair and no one at LG seems the least bit interested in customer retention. Our previous refrigerator worked for 25 years without needing a repair. On 7/12/09, our LG LFC20760SW refrigerator failed catastrophically less than a year after it was purchased, becoming completely nonfunctional while still under warranty. I spoke that day with Mario in customer service, who told me that Suzer Electronic Services would be at our house on Tuesday, 7/14/09, between 8am and 12pm, suggesting that I call on 7/13 to see if we could get them out sooner.
On 7/13, Suzer called to confirm that they'd be coming on 7/15. I pointed out that I had been told 7/14, but they insisted that LG had scheduled 7/15, forcing us to be without a refrigerator for an extra day. On 7/15, a Suzer tech determined that the electronics board needed to be replaced. He called LG and was told that the part was on back order until 8/25 but that since that was unreasonably long to make us wait, LG would replace our refrigerator with a new unit after I faxed Suzer's work order and our original receipt of purchase. I faxed that information within an hour of learning these requirements, and I waited for a response from LG. No one called back.
On 7/16, I phoned customer service at 11am and learned that nothing had been done with the faxed information that had sat for almost 24 hours unattended but that the representative would now first give it to the right department, where someone would be assigned to review the case. Not understanding what needed to be reviewed, I had the rep add a note that we had already been without a refrigerator for 5 days. No one called us back.
On 7/17, I called again and was told that it would take 3-5 days (until 7/20 - 9 days after our unit died) for the returns department to review the case. I asked to speak to a supervisor, who said that she couldn't make the decision herself but admitted that she didn't see on what grounds the new refrigerator would be denied. I asked why, if everyone agreed that the part was back-ordered until 8/25, there was anything left to review. But she said that we wouldn't hear until 7/20.
On 7/20, not having heard anything further, I called again, at which time, I was told that LG was waiting to hear from Suzer. I told them that Suzer had contacted them 5 days ago. After a prolonged wait on hold, I was then told that it would be 7-10 days for review. I asked to speak to a supervisor and finally got Karla, the only LG rep who has ever told me anything accurate in this entire odyssey.
Karla said that she would bring the matter to the attention of Charles in the returns department and expedite the resolution. When I called her back to find out what transpired, the call went directly to hold and was then eventually disconnected. I called back, asked for Karla, but was told by a supervisor named Michelle that the exchange for the new refrigerator was denied and that our only choice was to wait until 7/27 for the defective unit to be repaired. I refused and asked to have Karla call me.
Karla called, got the exchange approved by Charles, and said that an agent, assigned to effect the exchange, would call me on 7/21. No one called. So on 7/21, I called yet again and was told by a supervisor that the case was under review. I told her that the exchange had already been approved, but no agent had called. I asked that Karla please call me. She did and told me that Tasha was our agent (our "Dispute Resolution Counselor") and gave me her direct phone line. I left a message on 7/21, another in the morning on 7/22, and another that evening. But Tasha did not call. So, I had to call Karla again on 7/23.
Tasha finally called on 7/23, but by the time she tried to arrange the exchange with a local dealer in our area, the store had closed for the evening. Tasha promised to call back on 7/24 with the answer. Tasha didn't call on 7/24 as promised nor on 7/25, 7/26, or 7/27. LG had already left our family without a refrigerator for 15 days in the dead of summer, and no one had called to tell us when the new replacement fridge will arrive.
At that point, on 7/28, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Alabama, because all complaints about LG Electronics USA, Inc. (located in Illinois) are apparently handled by their customer service department (located in Alabama). In the complaint, I specified that since LG's customer service was even poorer than the quality of their appliances, we wished to have our money refunded so that we could purchase a new refrigerator from a company that makes more reliable equipment and has more competent and caring customer service. We also requested some minimal reimbursement for lost food; for meals that we were forced to eat outside of our home, because we could not store food; and for the 30-person party that we had to cancel because we could not store food.
The following day, I finally received a message from Tasha, telling me that the replacement had been arranged. This time, she contacted me by email rather than by phone. I responded to her email that same day (7/28), advising her of the complaint with the BBB and instructing her that we would no longer simply accept a replacement, because we distrusted both the quality of LG products and the company's customer service, based on our experience thus far.
I did not receive a response from Tasha, but I did receive a call from the local appliance shop that they had a refrigerator to deliver to us. Surprised, I asked them whether they had heard from Tasha about the current problems and was told that they had not. I apologized to them for the inconvenience and emailed Tasha again immediately (on 8/4). I received an automated response that she would not be in the office until 8/10. I responded with a note that she was not only continuing to frustrate and anger my wife and me by not responding to our messages, but was also inconveniencing this store by failing to advise them of the problem.
We heard nothing more until 8/20, at which time, Joy, LG Electronics Executive Service Corporate Correspondent, responded to my complaint with the BBB. This LG representative completely ignored the problems with LG's horrendous customer service. She also minimized the significance of their product failing catastrophically within a year of purchase, commenting "All electronic equipment requires maintenance from time to time despite the most exacting quality control standards at the factory."
But this is not some kind of routine maintenance that can be expected - it is the complete and total failure of the item that LG manufactured. Ms. Joy then claimed that her records show that we received a new unit two weeks earlier, which is completely untrue, thus demonstrating that in addition to being uncaring, LG's customer service is also misinformed and inept (as if this point needed any further evidence).
Not surprisingly, we have also not received a response to either email sent to "Dispute Resolution Counselor" Tasha on 8/4/09 (more than two weeks ago), despite the fact that she was to have returned to her office a week and a half ago. So now, we have gone six weeks without a refrigerator in the dead of summer, and there is no solution in sight. I have written to Mr. John, VP Public Affairs & Communications for LG Electronics USA, Inc. and am awaiting his response.
I exhort anyone reading this post to avoid this particular product. In fact, since all complaints about LG Electronics USA, Inc. (located in Illinois) are referred to their customer service department (in Alabama), apparently regardless of the type of product involved, I'd suggest that you boycott LG products in general, as I am now doing. If not, you'll be dealing with the same incompetent, unresponsive, and uncaring people when you try to get your item repaired.
As I explained in my response to the BBB on 8/22, I see that the BBB of Alabama has received many hundreds of complaints against LG Electronics (more than 750 so far) and has given the company a C rating, indicating that the BBB clearly has questions about whether "the business is operating in a trustworthy manner and will make a good faith effort to resolve any customer concern," as their website explains. A class action lawsuit may be the only way to get LG Electronics to take its customers' concerns more seriously.

We purchased an LG refrigerator in Feb 2008 at Sears in Edison Mall, Fort Myers, FL. We have not had any mechanical problems to that, however, two days ago, the plastic cover for the bulbs in the refrigerator broke off. I put something away before going to bed and it was fine, but when I opened the door, the cover had fallen off due to the screws pulling through the plastic, exposing the bulbs and wiring. We are not sure who to call to get this repaired or if it would be covered by warranty as a defect. Another problem we have been experiencing is that there seems to be a design flaw in the ice maker. The ice cubes pile up at the back of the collector pan and the wire sensor scoops the ice and drops it under the door whenever we pull out the drawer. The only work around to this is to remember to pull the ice cubes forward before opening the drawer, something we sometimes forget to do and visitors don't know must be done.

Luckily, we were home. We removed the light bulbs and contacted both Home Depot and LG directly. They outright refused to assist us since 2 years had passed and we had no warranty. LG's customer service was deplorable. We went to our local appliance store and they would not even touch it because of LG’s reputation and lack of customer service support. Within a year after purchasing an LG refrigerator (Model: LRBC22544ST) from Fry's Electronics in October 2005, the bottom freezer began to frost up. An authorized repairman managed to get us about six months without frost. After that, the periods between the 3+ hour manual defrosts with the use of a hair dryer on the walls of the freezer, as recommended by LG in response to our complaints, grew shorter and shorter.
Our calls to LG brought such responses as: you are leaving the freezer door open, you don't have the frig level, you may need new gasket, scrub the gasket, put the gasket in the dryer to make it more flexible, something is blocking the air flow, vacuum the air intake below the fridge, etc. We did everything suggested yet periods between needed manual defrosts shrank. By June 2009, I defrosted weekly!
An authorized LG repairman tells us the fridge cannot be repaired as a design flaw causes the housing between the fridge and the freezer to separate and sag, allowing condensation in the insulation between units. This moisture seeps into the freezer causing frost over everything including ice we use daily. What toxins could be in moisture from insulation? No answer. As housing sags, more frost builds up faster; thus, needing to be defrosted more often. LG rep at last admitted that LG had changed the design and now has two sealed units, freezer and refrigerator.
What about a four-year old fridge that must be replaced? Sorry, it's out of warranty as per LG and "it's between you and LG" according to Fry's! What about the possible toxins that we have been ingesting daily? Again, no answer. Does anyone know which law firm filed against LG in US District Court, Newark for toxins in water and ice last year? I want in!

I am writing on behalf of my mother. She is living on a fixed disability income. Four and a half years ago, after saving for a year, she purchased an LG fridge. It died, as in the compressor quit last month. The store where she purchased the fridge will cover the replacement cost of the compressor, but not labor. LG will not help in any way. In my experience, aren't refrigerators supposed to last more than four years? The estimated labor cost to fix this model is $250.00, approximately half of the original purchase price of this model. She is on a fixed income. Is this unit destined to become landfill? Their representative actually said to me, "You can tell as many people as you want about this. Our policy is not to extend warranties or pay for repairs." I encourage all consumers not to purchase any LG products. Their main objective is to make a profit at any cost, whether at the expense of customer satisfaction or the environment.

LG Bottom Freezer Refrigerator Model #LFX21960ST, Serial # 704KRZH00613, purchased 6/27/2007 - Regarding the above referenced refrigerator, I am notifying you of my disappointment in the workings and appearance of this unit.
Upon delivery and installation, I took note of condensation around the doors. A service call was made and the technician explained that even when only one door is opened, both doors must be pushed closed. The problem was resolved. The next problem encountered was the ice maker not making cubes only crushed ice even when the function for cubes was pressed. The ice maker was replaced by the technician who did not resolve the problem. The next technician replaced a component of the ice maker which did resolve the ice cube formation. When ice cubes are to dispense through the door, they come out so fast that I have had glasses break. Rather dangerous with broken glass in the hand. I can no longer use the dispenser and must fill the ice tray and dispense ice by hand. When ice is needed for a large gathering the dispenser is worthless.
The stainless steel exterior is of poor quality. Some areas are magnetic which indicates a low grade of stainless steel. The finish is subject to constant maintenance. The slightest touch shows immediately, making the refrigerator look unsightly. An indentation on the right door occurred with a slight tap of the cabinet which is adjoining. The plastic interior is also of poor quality. Each glass shelf is set in plastic which has become unsightly with normal use. Even upon cleaning, the scratches are quiet apparent. The snack pan handle is cracked. The lower right crisper has rails which always have to be snapped back into place when drawer is opened and attempted to close.
Recently, a technician called to tell us the unit was determined not to be energy efficient and I was entitled to a “free” repair of the problem. Paying $2,200.00 for an appliance I would expect better quality. This unit was purchased for my home but would also showcase a kitchen for a prospective customer in our custom home building business. I cannot promote this refrigerator for a prospective client. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to resolve these complaints. I am enclosing my bill of sale, delivery ticket and certificate of occupancy. Even though the unit was delivered July 2007, the use of this refrigerator did not start until August 2008.

I'm an Electrical Engineer working for a French multinational company in Doha, Qatar. I bought an LG fridge (390 lits) + washing machine during the promotion period in March 2009. The salesman there did a good presentation about the LG products, but very cleverly avoided the country of manufacturer. I did not want to buy any product which was made in China or India. I insisted on original Korean products (because of my previous experience). Now the problem is my new flat is very noisy (especially during night) because of my new LG fridge (owner's pride). The compressor starts like a diesel generator. We complained to the distributor and they sent us the technician.
3-4 successive repairs by different technicians did not find any permanent solution. I asked the distributor for a replacement of my fridge with a bigger capacity because I do not believe that my present refrigerator can be repaired. They have lots of excuse to reject my request (I'm willing to pay more for a different higher capacity fridge). Moreover, this present fridge was made in India (I came to know about it only after delivery) and the utility is poor. I don't want to complain more to the dealer about this matter since I had complained so many times. We don't want to receive LG technicians every week in my house. My prestige and self-respect prevents me to make more requests and complaints.
Now myself and my wife have decided to stop complaining and to arrange a transport to return this LG fridge to the distributor store at our own cost. Before we are forced to make such disgracing steps, we would like you to intervene into this matter and find a solution. We insist on a replacement and no more repairs (since it's only 3-4 months old) preferably with a higher capacity fridge. My family is happy with the performance of LG washing machine.

I purchased a side-by-side LG fridge on 5/6/09. The ice-maker never made enough ice to fill the bin. The ice-maker was replaced twice and the computer was replaced once. Then, the in-door dispenser would jam and water and ice would continue dispensing. I had to open the door to stop it then un-jam the dispenser button. The good news is Home Depot was great! They let me pick a different brand (selected GE) and they gladly picked up the LG fridge. I’m sorry to say I had purchased an LG range, microwave and dishwasher so my appliances do not match now. However, I do have all the ice I need. LG is not a good brand if you enjoy ice. I am only hoping my remaining LG appliances continue to work well. There are no problems so far.

In September 2008, we bought an LG refrigerator (Model #: LSC27931). From the very beginning, the ice maker would jam. It also doesn't make enough ice and the ice bin is too small. Occasionally, a single ice cube would drop out of the ice maker onto our hardwood floor or the catch tray would overflow and water would run down the front of the freezer door onto the floor. Due to a busy schedule and being out of town for an extended time, we didn't start the repair process until March 2009.
To make a long story short, an LG repair technician has come out five times and a non-LG technician once. They have adjusted the ice maker flapper spring, replaced the ice bin, replaced the whole freezer door which has the ice maker in it, replaced the flapper spring with a stronger one and loosened the screws on the flapper bracket. Still, no fix. Hhgregg refused to help as they said it was an LG problem and after 14 days, the appliance can't be returned.
They basically wiped their hands off the matter. We now will have to continue getting the service technicians to come out, wasting our time and theirs, until they deem the refrigerator unrepairable. Who knows how long that will take. Even if the ice jamming is fixed, I will not buy an LG appliance or shop at hhgregg again.

After 14 months, my LG refrigerator's main controller board failed. Two months out of warranty, the service rep said that I have no recourse since the fridge is out of the warranty period. I had an LG microwave fail after 5 months. Fortunately that was still under warranty and repairs were covered. I am really sour about LG, and will never purchase another product from them. I will make sure to let everyone I know never to buy one of their products. It is outrageous that a controller board is not under a longer warranty.
I'm looking at a week without a refrigerator, since it takes 3-5 days for the part, depending on which warehouse it's coming from. Then, I have to wait for the repair person to return. They don't work on the weekends, which I can accept. But I will have no refrigerator. At least $200 worth of food will be thrown away.

I purchased LG side-by-side refrigerator/freezer on 8/15/2008. On 2/25/2009, no ice was being made and the freezer was not working, causing all freezer food to defrost. All ruined! Also, there was leaking coming from inside the refrigerator, creating the need to clean up puddles of water on refrigerator shelves each day. I called for service. The serviceman came out and said he needed to order parts. On 3/8/2000, the serviceman came out to replace parts. On 3/10/2009, same thing. The freezer was not working, all food ruined again! On 3/12/2009, an LG repairman came out and said he had to replace the freezer door. On 3/18/2009, he replaced said the door. On 3/19/2009, the freezer was not working. All food in freezer ruined, for the third time!
On 3/20/2009, another LG serviceman came out and fixed the freezer door. Everything was working properly until 7/22/2009, when the freezer and refrigerator stopped working. Very packed freezer and fridge and all food ruined for the fourth time in less than a year. LG came out on 7/23/2009 and said they will be back with parts sometime next week. I called LG and begged for a replacement. I talked all day with various supervisors who became increasingly rude. They finally told me they would not replace the unit and an executive supervisor nastily told me that LG would repair the unit 20 times or more in a year, but I would never see a replacement.
Also, they do not provide food allowance for ruined food. Home Depot, both local store and corporate, said they would not help in any way. $1,500 spent and hundreds in ruined food and nobody cares! I went out last night and ordered a new Kenmore from Sears hoping for a more reliable appliance and better customer service. I won't hold my breath! I will junk this LG, nobody else deserves this headache!

A year and a half later, we woke up to find that the lights in the refrigerator did not shut off when the door was closed and melted the whole plastic cover to the point where it could not be removed. It also caused food spoilage due the extreme heat of the bulbs. When we called LG, they said they would not cover this because we are the second owners. Needless to say, we will not buy another LG product ever again. I also have an LG cell phone that constantly shuts off, even after I had it serviced and replaced the battery.

In April of 2006 (I think), we bought LG washer and dryer and an LG refrigerator from Best Buy in Hawthorne, California. In less than 2 weeks of using the washer, it began to stink to high heaven. I still stinks. I should buy stock in Arm and Hammer as I've used so much to try to keep the laundry from smelling like old mold. The laundry room is located in the house and I'm embarrassed to use it when company is present. The smell is horrible. I thought it was that the water was not draining due to the unit sitting uneven. When balancing failed, I just gave up and hoped it would go away; it didn't.
The refrigerator didn't mess up for 6 months! It started making a loud noise and that went on for weeks. I finally got someone on the phone with LG products and they told me to unplug it and wait for a few minutes. I did and it worked fine; for another few weeks. I then noticed everything at the top half of the refrigerator was warm and everything on the lower half was frozen solid. I did not understand that until I realized the freezer side was doing the same thing! No ice was being made and what was left from when it did make ice, melted and froze in streaks on the bottom half.
Here it is, 2009, and I still have the same problems. After the last authorized technician came, I have gotten plastic in my glass with the ice and in the last 6 months, I have to open the door to get ice from the dispenser. It is either frozen from the run off of water that goes into the ice tray or the dispenser just doesn't work! The TV lasted longer than any of them until a blue line appeared down the right side of the screen. Now, it is just there blocking the screen and messing up the picture.
I was warned about LG before I spent more than $8,000 on the products. I was told about the problems a friend had with a refrigerator. I just thought maybe it was his dumb luck. I suppose it is all our dumb luck since I've talked to more people with the same complaints and I've read some of the consumer complaints about LG products. In my opinion, every one that ever spent a dime on LG products should be reimbursed double what they spent and LG manufacturing should be eradicated!

I actually bought an LG double-door refrigerator about 8 months back. From the time I bought this, problem persists; but because of my two kids, I did not have time to complain. The problem is in the freezer zone; there is accumulation of ice like in the typical old refrigerators and in the refrigerator zone, the vegetables get burnt. They become hard like ice, and there is accumulation of ice on top of the vegetables. In short, there is over-cooling taking place; and as a result, vegetables, green leaves, etc. get rotten in 2-3 days' time, even when the knob is kept at a minimum.

They tell me it's a manufacturing defect and cannot be fixed! Now LG says there is a part number for the fix and they have to replace the door to fix the ice maker. It will take 4 months to get the liner fix kit and Lord knows how long to get the door - and I'm sure it won't match! I paid $2500 for this POS! Please do not buy any LG products! I feel that if they used faulty part and were aware, they should have done a recall and been responsible for replacing the part especially since I spent over $2000 on unit. Also, it doesn't meet energy efficiency shown, so didn't qualify for state energy refund available with replacement if it meets energy level.

About 2 years ago, I purchased an LG French Door refrigerator from Home Depot in Sandusky, Ohio. Immediately, the ice maker started to overflow dumping ice onto my kitchen floor. I called LG service and they sent me a new shut off arm for the ice maker. It didn't work! A short time later, the guides and rollers on the crisper doors began to break. The refrigerator doors never did close properly, therefore, causing the light to remain and melt the light cover and push the control pane right out of the top of the refrigerator. Complaints to LG and Home Depot did not result in any satisfactory resolution to the refrigerator problems.
On July 19, 2009, I opened the door to the refrigerator to smell smoke. I discovered that the lights would not go out even with the doors completely closed (you can test this by pushing the light switches in with the doors open and the lights do not go out) and the top of the refrigerator was hot. The control panel was pushed out, and a container of walnuts was close to burning.
When I purchased the refrigerator, I asked the sales person at Home Depot (Evelyn **) if there were any reported problems with LG products and she said there were not. She did say that they did have problems several years prior to my purchase but they had made major improvements and their products were very high quality. Hmm! I now find out that the problems I have had been going on for years and continue to go on today.
I also bought an LG microwave at the same time but that's another story for another day. Needless to say, I will never buy another LG product and I will do all I can to make sure no one that I know ever purchases any LG product ever! Customer service from both LG and Home Depot is terrible. You would think Home Depot would discontinue selling this LG junk. It can't be good for their business.

He conveniently went to the truck and pulled out a new $340.11 icemaker that had my receipt already printed and on the box. I know he didn't have a printer in his truck. Funny, how he knew the icemaker was going to require replacement and already had the bill ready! My icemaker is less than 2 years old. LG acted like they would have replaced the item; however, when they found out Sears was involved, they washed their hands of the problem. I purchased my LG refrigerator (LFX25960 ) in May 2007. Within weeks of buying, the ice maker went bad, causing water to drip into the freezer and knocking out the light fixture. They replaced the flap door where the ice comes out, saying it wasn't closing and thus causing the ice to melt and in turn cause the drip. It worked for a few months, just long enough for my warranty to run out.
Then the next problem was the cheap plastic holding the drawer has broken, causing the deli tray to fall every time we pull it out. As well as the crisper doors are breaking. We now have no doors on the drawers and the tray now seats on the shelf below. The rubber liner around the doors is also tearing off. The stainless steel sheeting around the freezer door is pulling away. The freezer door handle comes off in our hand. The worst is that the lights stayed on while the refrigerator doors were closed overnight, causing everything to spoil and darn nearly caused a fire. The fixture is melted, and we are to afraid to screw the lights back in for fear that next time it would start a fire.
I have called customer service, and they would only repeat the same thing no matter what I said. And I quote: "I'm sorry. Your warranty has expired. There is nothing I can do for you."

In November, I received my LG refrigerator model 27931 after waiting about 6 weeks for my order to be filled from Best Buy. Right After we got it, we noticed that the icemaker liked to crush some ice even though it was set to dispense cubes. The problem got worse, the dispenser would clog up and when you held the glass under, nothing would come out. Using a wooden spoon to dislodge the cubes would bring an avalanche of crushed and cubes crashing all over the place.
When the serviceman came to fix that, we also wanted him to investigate this sound that was coming from the fridge. But, of course, it didn't make the sound when he came, thus no problem. The serviceman supposedly fixed the icemaker but, I thought the problem was worse. Meanwhile, the noise persisted and the refrigerator heated up to 56 degrees one day when it was set for 40 degrees and many things spoiled. The repairman returned to replace parts and fix the clogged icemaker.
I am very disappointed and disgusted with the product. It used to be that refrigerators lasted forever and the only reason you got another was to upgrade. Now, I've got an expensive piece of junk. I would not recommend an LG refrigerator to my worst enemy and hope that companies who sell inferior products go out of business.

I purchased an LG range (LRE30451) and refrigerator (LRFD22850ST, SN 604MRVB0055) in summer of 2006 from Best Buy in Green Bay, WI. Right away, we had problems with both appliances. The range was damaged and replaced. The replacement range was damaged and replaced. In the summer of 2008, one of the burners could not be turned on, the flat panel control button didn't seem to be working. Since it was out of warranty, I didn't want to pay the service fee for the tech to come and tell me the control panel needed replacement, out of warranty. The problem has not been resolved.
The refrigerator has given us problems from the start. The water dispenser has dripped from day one. A technician came out to fix the original unit, but it still dripped. So, we got a new unit in October 2006. The dripping still occurred. On May 9, 2009, the technician replaced some ice maker parts and the control unit (receipt attached). The unit still drips. On June 25, 2009, the unit stopped cooling and we had to throw out the contents of the refrigerator. However, after I unplugged and plugged in the unit, it started cooling again. But on June 28, 2009, the unit stopped cooling. On June 29, I had a local service center check out the unit and the technician says that the 2-year-old control unit needs replacing again, which will cost me $300. The fan that cools the condenser is not functioning. It cycles on/off for a few seconds, then stops working completely. Additionally, the technician thought the condenser may be damaged because of the heat. I now have a fan blowing on the condenser, and the unit seems to be working okay.
I contacted LG and although the customer service people (3 or 4 separate calls) told me that this situation would be resolved with favorable results to me, once I spoke with the "supervisor", I was told the product was too far out of warranty and I was out of luck, $300 out of my pocket for the control panel, which will likely fail again in a few years.
The failure of the second control unit is unacceptable. This is a $1,500 refrigerator that has given me nothing but trouble from the start, along with the range. We spent nearly $3,000 on these appliances and it was one of the worst purchases we've made in the past 25 years. If these units were over 10 years old, maybe it would be okay, but I still look at these as new appliances. What options do I have?
