    Water was coming into our home and the repair people put in a sump pump. They had to dig out our whole floor and told us that we needed a generator on that. So, we put one in. We were gonna put one in anyway, because we lose our power out here in Vicksburg constantly. The trees fall on the power lines and we lose our power when the storms come. But since we purchased the Kohler generator, we’ve only lost the power once for about 10 seconds. It kicked on and it kicked off, which was the only time it ever ran. It's a bummer. The generator goes through its cycle every week. It kicks on on Wednesdays and runs through its time. You hear it fire and it purrs like a kitten then it shuts down. And it's done for a week.

    We love the Kohler generator. It's great and we're totally satisfied. I like the peace of mind. You know you got something to back you up. I told family and friends to buy one of these and not a Generac. I've had friends that it almost burned their home down. It's only two blocks away from me and that was not a very good experience.

    We use KOHLER Generators in all of our sanitary sewer line pump stations. My experience with Kohler has been excellent. They make work for municipal and utility applications. They're very good. I almost missed the opportunity to make it to the army-navy football game. And if it weren't for my KOHLER generator kicking on, I would not have had power that day and would not have been able to make it to the football game.

    I talked to somebody local that was dealing with KOHLER and I liked him and he was very honest and upright. He does good work. He had good recommendations. He recommended the KOHLER over the Generac. He could get me the Generac too, but there were certain things he liked better about the KOHLER. And we've had good luck with it. We like it. We had it for about a year and a half now. We've used it a few times, but we've never had any long power outages. It's pretty fast. As soon as the power goes off, it's on within a matter of a few seconds. The guy who installed it and sold it to us has me on a schedule. Comes back once a year to service it. We're well satisfied with it.

    I looked at both Generac and Kohler and they were very comparable but I went with a local business. The sales reps were highly professional and the installation was very easy and simple. It didn't take long. The generator automatically kicks on when the power comes off. We bought one for my uncle first and he lives up in the national forest area and there are a lot of trees that come down when there are windstorms. It's been very beneficial for both me and my uncle, especially more for my uncle because fire lines come down when trees cross them. We’ve used the generator for an hour or two but my uncle has had to use his for a couple of days. It performs very well. The Kohler generator is a highly reliable product.

    Our second home is in an area that loses power quite frequently and we did not wanna have any problems with losing power and perhaps having freezing pipes.     We went through Hurricane Hugo and we didn't have power for two weeks. My mom is 96 years old and if something goes wrong with the power, she needs heat and air. She can't be sitting around. We got a generator and my heat and air guys said Kohler looked good so I bought it. The thing I don't like is it's noisy and it's right beside my bedroom window so it's a little aggravating. But it doesn't run for 20 minutes every week or so and other than that, it works fine.

    The gentleman from KOHLER that came out was great. He explained about the generator and put me in a package that was within my wheelhouse as far as pricing. The installation was pretty cool, too. I needed a couple of things done here and there, and the installer helped out as much as he could. He was expeditious in the way that he facilitated it. So far, we've had a couple power outages where the generator had gone right on cue. For the most part, it was seamless for us and we really didn't recognize that the power went out. I heard the generator kick on and it just stayed on. We thought it was the normal weekly turn on, but it wasn't. When we started hearing everybody else's generators, we realized that the power was out.

    The generator did what I paid for and I was happy about that. Plus, when I had an appraisal done for my home, I had a chance to show the appraiser that we have a generator and what I paid for, and it affected my home appraisal value. If anyone was asking about my generator, I would recommend they get BT, my sales rep. He knew what he was talking about.

    We have been customers of Generator Tech Ottawa for over 10 years. When our 10-year old Generac generator (not purchased from Generator Tech Ottawa) was running and blew an oil cap and blew all the oil onto the floor of the generator, thereby ruining (seizing) the engine, we called Generator Tech Ottawa and they had a new Kohler generator installed for us within a week.     I bought (new) old stock from a former Kohler dealer and Kohler corporate decide the unit was too old to warranty. I understand corporate not knowing what happened between delivery and sale, however, they could have offered to send a certified tech out to verify. Instead they decided to deny any warranty level. This was the easy way out instead of standing behind their product.

    We have been very happy with the performance of the generator. It has come on immediately after 3 power outages. At one point we stopped getting messages from KOHLER that the weekly testing was successful. Our service provider Wilhelm of Amp Champ responded quickly and kept reprogramming the internet connection. He was very quick to respond and was uncertain what the problem was. It turned out that our internet service was malfunctioning and it is now fixed. And we are getting weekly notices from Koehler.

    These Kohler generators are fantastic. I bought it through electric generators direct and I was assured that I'd be eligible for the rebate but Kohler said that the purchase was ineligible because retailer. Kohler makes a great generator but don't count on them to pay out rebates. Part of the reason that I went with the more expensive Kohler generator was because of the quality but also because the price would be offset with the rebate.

    We bought the 20Kw in 2021 from Pritchard Electric, Mississauga Ontario. Extremely helpful and informative. Had one in stock. Problem 1: It was delivered to our Waterloo home when I clearly said it was for the cottage near Dorset, Ontario, about 300 kms away. I had to pay half the shipping cost to Sent it to the proper location. On Dec 28th, 2022, the "stator" (?) failed due to melted brushes? Ontario Hydro indicated it would take 6 weeks to restore power. All water lines, appliances, etc had to be drained because of the freezing Temps in January. The new stator was installed Feb 13, 2022. I've since learned that no one other than Pritchard can service this generator at a cost of $750 just for the travel.

    We bought a home generator installed Aug 2021. It was installed with a broken value that lets the fuel in. Didn't work until we complained and stopped payment on the final check. Then 1 month later the new battery was dead. The install company replaced it at no cost. We have reported several times that it wasn't running smoothly. Paid for a service call and they made some adjustment. Now 2 1/2 years later we have a locked rotor message. Took the company 3 weeks to come out. Then they replaced the battery and said the starter motor is bad. We have been without use of the generator for 5 weeks and there is no telling how much longer and if it's the starter motor or something else. This is not our idea of a good product or reliable. My advice is look at a Generac!!!

    This is the second house that we have had a Kohler installed. No problems with the first unit ever. This unit, the second one, developed an large oil leak and was replaced at Kohler's discretion. The replacement unit has also developed an oil leak although from a different location and we get a code, locked rotor, that renders the unit inoperative. If I go and start the unit manually it will start and run on auto after that.

    Gen is great when the power goes out. The generator was installed on a slant. Condensation gathers on the left side of the generator shorting out the generator. Dealer replaced large part of generator under warranty. They did not level the generator and I am sure it will happen again when not on warranty. I am retired now and cannot afford the $5,000 to fix it again. Dealer shows no intention fixing the problem for me.

    This generator has performed very well for the past 3 years. I exercise it loaded each week to be sure it will not fail in a pinch. The only issue I have encountered is the start battery. It must hold above 9.5 volts when the unit starts to keep the ATS computer powered. If it falls below that, the ATS will not function. The battery would crank the motor just fine, but the ATS would not switch. Keep a close eye on that. Otherwise, I have not had a problem and recommend Kohler over two of the other major brands on the market.

    We bought the generator through Home Depot. They sent the representative to our house. The man looked over everything with me and we had them install the Kohler generator. We have had incidents where the electric would be out for a few hours to a day....We also had the generator run for a full week...and were very satisfied with the product. Once a year the people who installed the generator do a maintenance...The maintenance is expensive but it is worth knowing our unit will operate correctly.

    I cannot rave enough about our Kohler Generator!!! Just last week we had a 14 hour loss of electricity in our area that impacted over 5,000 homes. Our generator kicked in immediately, and ran effortlessly for all of those 14 hours. I had our vendor come out and check the generator since this was the first time it has run for that length of time and because hurricane season is just around the corner. It was in perfect order. The technician just topped off the oil and that was it!!!! Love this generator and so happy we bought a Kohler. First class product that won't let us down in an emergency!!!!     I purchased a Kohler generator because they were supposed to be the most reliable. The generator portion of my whole house generator self destructed during a weekly test cycle when it was no more than 2 years old. It was around COVID-19 time and impossible to get parts from Kohler. After months of waiting I finally demanded my dealer harvest parts from new units in inventory, which was eventually what happened. The unit was repaired free of charge and has functioned perfectly ever since. I just wish I never had to go through that experience.

    Had a bad board and Kohler told me to call a dealer. None of the dealers helped and I had to return the paperweight to Costco. Thanks for nothing kohler.     Our 20RCA generator failed after 75 hours of use. The night it failed we had tornados 1/4 mile away and were without power for 16 hours. The brushes and armature burned and the engine shaft had a huge groove cut into it. No labor warranty means It took 6 months to get it repaired with me forking out over $1500. I no longer will give Kohler good recommendations. Also customer service folks were nice. However it does not seem like Kohler, as big as a company they are, has a central customer service management system. Each time I called I had to wait to speak with same person.

    When the generator self-tests weekly, sometimes it fails to start up. Elite Power & Energy Corp, which maintains the unit, has been unable to correct the problem, going so far as to having denied the problem twice in the past. I suppose that, if you don't know how to fix a problem, deny that it exists.

    Have owned my Kohler, 20 KW for about three years. Since installation, there have been very few power outages! It reliably starts up every week for its maintenance run. I know it is sturdy, because a medium size tree fell on it during the last Florida hurricane. Made a small crack in the case. No damage inside, and I repaired it with a little caulk. The app works well reporting all situations including battery health. The installation company Has been excellent in annual maintenance. I am very pleased with my Kohler and have confidence in its operation.

    Bought the unit 16 months ago. Has only run 4 short times in that period but it turns on 10 seconds after losing power and is pretty quiet.     I've been generally pleased with your product. It arrived with some defective parts that had to be replaced by the installer. I was unhappy with the installer, NH Generator Installers, who I found to be unresponsive when I did have issues, one of which was the Generac "pass through switch" to our kitchen stove. It failed twice and hasn't been replaced, so when the power goes out, we have no stove. I have a new service co., Brook Field Service, who seem to be doing the job, although very expensive.

    Before purchasing my whole home generator through Lowe’s. I did a good bit of research and thought that the Kohler brand was probably the best. Here is my review. The process of purchasing the generator through Lowe’s was a total mess. First ordered late August 2023. When I went to pick up the generator from Lowe’s on the delivery date, September 15th, 2023, Lowe’s stated that it hadn’t come in yet. It had been three weeks or longer. Lowe's contacted Kohler directly to get a new delivery date. The CSR at Kohler stated they had no record of the purchase. Lowe's showed in their computer system that the order was placed with Kohler.

    In order to re-order the generator Lowe's had to refund my credit card which takes 5 to 7 days. I had to then use a separate card to re-order the generator again. Kohler stated it will be 3 to 4 weeks for the delivery. One week later Lowe’s contacted me and states the generator is in. I am a licensed electrician in the state of West Virginia, and I installed the generator myself along with the ATS. I went through the proper steps per the installation manual to program the controller. After many attempts to start the generator, I called Kohler directly to get some technical assistance. They worked with me as much as possible, but at the end of the day, the generator still would not start, Kohler advised that was all they could do, I would have to contact a Kohler dealer in my area which I did.

    The dealer could not come out and look at my generator until November 2nd. I was fine with that understanding that I did not purchase it from them directly and I was not a priority to them. The dealer technician came to my house to troubleshoot the generator and came to the conclusion that the controller was bad. Intermittent signal from the crank sensor was preventing the engine from starting. He ordered a new controller and stated they would call me when it came in to schedule a date to install. The controller finally came in and the technician came back in late December. The new controller did not fix the no start problem.

    The technician was very good and knowledgeable. After rechecking everything the generator still had the same issue. I advised him that he should really check the wiring harness and connections. Finally while he was on the phone with a Kohler tech, I happened to reach under the generator housing to feel for the wires going to crank sensor and I found the two wires were nearly pinched in two. It looked like it probably happened when the factory was mounting the generator to the base, probably was pinched by or from some type of lifting equipment.

    Once he used wiring butt connectors to temporarily repair the harness the generator started up as it should. The technician ordered a new harness and came back Jan. 2nd to replace, however Kohler had sent the wrong harness (imagine that). The technician decided to make a more permanent repair to the wiring harness and the generator has worked properly since then. Just to recap this process I initially ordered in late August 2023, finally up and running Jan. 2nd, 2024. Four months, good thing I didn’t need my emergency generator during an emergency. I can only hope the generator works in the future.

    We have two Kohler generators. I've also recommended two neighbors use Kohler over Generac. So I have experience with four generators since 2019. As of now, all but one has been without issue. One problem generator had its engine seize up for no explained reason, then costing $5k in repairs. The local tech then told us that they've seen several engines seize within a couple of years. Thus making me worry about ticking timebombs. Our local dealer has been very helpful, but Kohler doesn't seem to want to help with the issue.

    Purchase 20KW model 20RESD generator through Kohler distributor. Generator exercised routinely and was serviced every six months during 5 year life. It rarely ran (other than exercise), and never greater than one hour. Experienced two outages during its fifth year (each greater than 24 hours) and generator ran without issue.

    At the 5 year and 2 month life the routine exercise halted and an error message (AC send loss) appeared. Upon inspection, Stater and rotor needed to be replaced for $6,800. Kohler refused any assistance despite bi annual maintenance and less than 65 hours of run time in 5 year life. They refused to speak with me directly on the issue and would not offer any assistance to distributor (Power Products) who I understand is no longer a distributor of their product since Company was sold to a company that distributes a competitor product. In conclusion, for 2 months beyond warranty, with a complete Maintenance program, although there was minimal use of generator the, Kohler refused to constructively interact with me (to explain the decision) nor provide any assistance.

    20K Kohler Generator 12.1 Hours 6 months old. is dead, Let us down twice The engine, blew at 12.1 hours. Oil everywhere even in the ground. Kohler factory warranty people were rude, not at all helpful. We got a complete runaround. One person went off on our son because he knew her name, she was mad and going to her supervisor. We feel we need a replacement generator. They will replace the motor but we just can not trust a piece of equipment that has already bug down and had a complete engine failure. The sound damping is oil soaked as well. The installation and servicing companies (not Kohler) have been great. No recommendation on Kohler from us. Wish we purchased another brand.

    I live out in Wyoming and we've used the generator many times. When the power goes out, it waits for maybe a minute before it kicks on.     Kohler’s installers had trouble when they put the generator in and something wasn’t wired right. But it wasn’t their fault. When they finally got the wiring, everything straightened out. This is a new condo, which is only three and a half years old. The power went out a couple of times and my wife wasn’t on oxygen at that time. When she was put on oxygen, I figured the generator was an extra life insurance policy to make sure that she never runs out of oxygen. I'm also on a CPAP machine, so I need it every night. Here in Indiana, we get severe thunderstorms as well as tornadoes. I live just off of a major north-south artery and the poles over there are always getting hit. Having the generator gives me comfort knowing that if something happens, the power will come back up.

    The installers came out and wired the generator. They put it on a circuit that was ground-faulted so it would trip if something happened. That was to start the generator and the first time it did it, I went out to look at it. The battery was dead. Kohler said it didn’t charge. So, they fixed that. Six months later, it started to act up again. I called the salesman and told him I was tired of this and wanted it fixed. Kohler sent a guy out and ever since that kid spent the whole day out here and put in some new parts, changed the wiring completely and tied into the fuse panel, everything's been perfect. It hasn't missed a hit.

    We’ve got the generator set to come on every Monday at 11 o’clock in the morning. It took a couple of months, but it got smoothed out. It wasn't perfect but I'm satisfied now. I looked at Kohler and Generac and when I read how they were made and where they were made and rated, Consumer Reports and everybody else said Kohler was the better one. The price is good. I got it on sale and got a rebate plus I got some extended warranty thrown into the bargain too.

    I haven't been happy with the generator. We had it installed last November and when the storm came, it did not start. They came out and they said that it needed a heater. They placed the heater in there. It does a manual check and it was doing it every Saturday at noon. Last week, it was doing its check and it tried to start up once, twice, and it just did not start. They had to come out again and they said they thought it was the spark plug because they said I hadn't had a check on it so they did that. Also, I had them switch the check to Tuesday at 9:00 so at least I'm up and I can hear. I haven't really had an opportunity to see if it will produce, which is kind of my concern because it was almost $12,000. But the techs have been great.

    We purchased a whole house Kohler generator several years ago because we live in a rural area of New Hampshire with a population of 250. We are the last to be restored once power is lost.     We bought the 12 RES generator late 2020. I did the installation myself in early 2021. I am a contractor, the work was filed for, done to code, passed inspection, etc. The generator ran fine on the initial startup but then would not restart. Kohler eventually sent a service tech who discovered a linkage arm, between the carburetor and the servo, had somehow become inverted. It was an easy fix, and the generator has run flawlessly since, providing us with power through numerous outages.

    However, the reason I am only giving it 3 stars is the frustration I had trying to get parts, accessories. The manual lists an upgraded control module and remote monitoring station that I really wanted to have. These items are unobtainable. I tried getting them from Kohler but they have no direct sales to customers, they couldn't even give me the correct part numbers! They directed me to a local dealer who said they would get the parts, but never did. I couldn't find them available anywhere online, either. Eventually I gave up. My worry is, future repair parts may also be difficult or impossible to find. Come on Kohler it's the 21st century, it's time to update your parts program. SMH. Attached is a photo of the generator during the gas line pressure test.

    KOHLER manufactured my generator with a defective part; the coolant reservoir tank intake and output drain holes were blocked; this resulted in overspill of coolant while the unit is hot. I spent hours on the phone with Kohler, sending them photos and receipts for the repair that their certified technician was supposed to fix; he could not find the problem. I found the problem. I was promised by Alissa that she would review and reimburse me for the defect. She ignored all my emails and phone calls and never contacted me. Kohler service gets an F for customer service.

    I have two of these on two properties in Hayward, WI. The installer, Voyageur Electric did an excellent job installing them. All in all they have worked great but one did have a defective or improperly installed shaft seal from the factory which blew out and leaked all of the oil out. Luckily your engine management system caught this before the engine was ruined but it did cause a few weeks of downtime to get this repaired.

    I replaced my old Kohler generator with another Kohler. Kohler products are all made in the US, which is important to me and I'd had real good luck and good service out of my old unit. At the time when I bought it, availability was kind of sketchy so I had to wait a while. But they put me in the queue and as soon as one came in, the company I bought it from had it drop shipped directly from the plant. Other than that, the timing was pretty good because they were offering a 10-year extended warranty at no charge.

    The quality is great. I was replacing a 17-year-old unit, so I was confident in that. We live in the Gulf Coast and power outages are not uncommon. The last big event that my old one ran on was Hurricane Sally. It ran the whole house for 14 days and it was business as usual for us. The generator was on an automatic transfer switch so when the line power dropped, the transfer switch sensed that and started the generator.

    The only negative portion of purchasing and owning a Kohler is the difficulty in purchasing the yearly maintenance kit. It would be nice if there was a Kohler store on Amazon where the kit could be purchased. There's a lot of cost that go with having a generator that I wasn't aware of, like coming out to do your regular inspection and replacing things.     My good friend who has Kohler recommended them over Generac. They said that Generac was not nearly as good as the Kohler. The electrician that I used to install my generator recommended them as well. The electrician put in the generator and it has come on when our power went out, but not for any extensive use. Most of it has been a couple hours. This past Labor Day was the longest time. It ran for four hours.

    After the generator was installed, I read about it, and it said that after eight hours of running, the generator had to be shut down and the oil had to be checked. In the last 10 years, we've had two situations where New Jersey got hit with some multiple day power outages, and I thought that a generator just runs, that people don't have to inspect it every eight hours. I don't wanna go out in the middle of the night and shut down the generator and check the oil. It should have a situation where it could run longer without having to go through all that. However, I've never had to do that, so I can't say that it was ever a problem.

    I love our whole house generator, and I was very impressed with Ferran Engineering. They were the one that made the proposal to me, and we discussed the various kinds of generators. We selected Kohler, and they acquired it. They also installed and serviced it. They continue to service it, and it's working beautifully. It's on an automatic transfer switch, so if the power goes out from our local utility, the generator comes on and serves our entire house. It has done so several times. We live in Florida where the hurricanes bring the power down. Even local outages and a severe storm, it'll blow out a transformer somewhere. As a matter of fact, I was on vacation during Christmas, and on my phone, I got a notice from The Orlando Utilities that they experienced a power outage in my neighborhood. It didn't worry me a bit that we were gonna be without power at home while I was away. I felt very confident in the performance of the generator.

    Other people have asked me what my generator is that serves my whole house because they're thinking of doing that at their home. I've recommended Kohler on four different occasions. As architects, we've also recommended that to a couple other architects that are interested. Also, I got the recommendation from a consulting engineer when we were making the decision.     When we moved from NYC to our rural area of PA, we did not realize how bad the electric company protected their lines. So many outages, and lost food. We finally bought a gas generator and it helped, but we had to go outside, fill it with gas, get it started, and run power cords throughout our house.     My first generator failed working 3 weeks. The seals blew out within the first few weeks and dumped oil everywhere including coating the entire generator. The dealer came out and said he’s never seen a generator fail that way but under warranty they are replacing it. This was during Covid so a generator was at least a month out. The dealer called me and said that Kohler is upgrading me to the arctic package free of charge and it will be here in a week. I live in western ny so the arctic package is perfect! The dealer installed the new generator and even put a new pad under it for me. That day I signed a contact with him to come service it once a year.     When I queried my electric coop to determine my home's maximum power load they sent me a 365-day spread-sheet showing that my maximum load was 10.7KW. That simplified my choice of generator size. From one of your distributors I ordered your 12RESV, 12KW model. I also ordered a Kohler maintenance kit, concrete mounting pad, OnCue Plus Wireless Radio Kit, a MT-51/51R 12V CCA battery and a RXT-JFNC-0200A automatic transfer switch. Calling on my educational background as a graduate electrical engineer and FCC licensed broadcast engineer, and my experience installing automatic generators, I found the Kohler installation and operating manuals easy to follow and was able to achieve a successful installation.

    After hiring a certified gas installer to make my LP (propane) gas field conversion and making a connection to my 500-gallon buried storage tank, your generator started quickly, ran smoothly and produced 60Hz at 240VAC. My home is heated and cooled by a central forced-air heat pump, which is our largest electrical load. After transferring all of my home's power to the generator, I found the quality of power from the generator to be excellent, compatible with all of our electrical devices and able to fully power my home and to start and run our central heat pump effortlessly.

    Once I was supplied with your activation code, I did several simulated power outages and found that this generator and transfer panel required only ten or eleven seconds to fully restore power. Situated near our home's heat pump's external unit our generator produces barely more sound than our heat pump does. If we have a power outage at night it's likely that we'll never be awakened by our Kohler system's automatic restoration. Living in an area where we experience frequent power outages having automatic restoration enables us to continue living and operating our home normally without hassle or significant interruptions. I'm pleased with our purchase.

    The generator itself seems well built and hopefully works as it should. But I don’t know that because the OnCue System that allows an owner to monitor the generator operations remotely using a phone app, is faulty and unreliable. The app requires communication with two linking devices, one installed on the generator and another nearby in your house. The linking devices do not use WiFi, as they should, but use an inefficient and often ineffective radio signal; and the software is faulty. When first installed it took an hour with a Kohler phone tech to get the system communicating. I don’t live full time in the house; it’s 200 miles away from my primary residence, so knowing my generator is functioning properly is absolutely necessary, especially in wintertime when a power outage could be catastrophic for me.

    For the second time in two years the system lost communication. The first time it required me to reboot the entire communication protocol on the generator using a laptop plugged in to a jack on the generator. Not something 95% of people could do, but because I’m reasonably tech savvy I could pull it off. This took 4 phone calls to Kohler and 90 minutes. Approximately a year later, about this past September, it failed again. This time when I called Kohler I was pretty frustrated. The Kohler tech told me this is happening because the system is 12 years old and “Kohler has not updated anything in years.”

    I currently have no communication with my $10,000 generator. I have no way of know when my power goes out if and the generator is running. I would never have purchased a Kohler if I would have known the app they claim one can monitor the system with was this dysfunctional. In fact, my installer (who has installed dozens of these) told me that I was the only install he knew of that had ever been able to use the OnCue app, even for a limited amount of time. Kohler, DO BETTER. Update your communications equipment!

I am somewhat disappointed with the controller which on occasion loses remote connection. This prevents me from connecting to the generator.     Generator had as only come on during an outage a few times but worked flawlessly when needed. Service people doing the once a year maintenance have been efficient.     My generator has not run correctly on the load since I bought it. The local service tech told me that the gas pressure was too low so I hired a plumber to come and increase it. It has been done. The generator is still not running correctly. It misses and stutters.. I have called the local service tech, Prime Energy Solutions, three times in the past 30 days and spoken to the receptionist, they have never returned my call to let me know when they can come out and see what’s wrong with it. It’s still under warranty.

    About 18 months after professional installation of Kohler 20RCA/200ASE generator package, the system had electronic failure. Emergency electrician found a board had fried. He was not a Kohler dealer so he could not repair it, but could get power rerouted so HVA worked again. Tried to arrange repair under Kohler warranty but no one would come. Called Kohler and explained difficulty, but got no help. Some email promises arrived, which again resulted in nothing. System remains broken and shut-off almost 2 years later. The Kohler engines are great. But the electrical power management is not. Low quality, 3rd party add-on. Don't make my mistake and buy for the engine. Buy for quality electricity handling/management -- get a Briggs & Stratton. Kohler is unreliable and has no service or warranty coverage.

    I've been happy with our KOHLER generator. It's doing the job. The only thing is that it is a propane generator and it uses a crap ton of propane when it runs. It's not very fuel efficient. Every time it starts up, it runs for about five hours to charge the batteries. It uses a phenomenal amount of propane for that length of time. Other than that, I'm very satisfied. I would recommend it.

    Got a 20K generator since 2 years and it work great, but the motor had to be change after 12 months. It take less than a month and everything went alright. My only concern this year, is the current come and goes in a blink, the generator start and stop in 20 second kind of. My questioning is, could that damage the generator to start and stop, sometimes 5 to 10 times in an hour? Thanks.

    We were a little bit disappointed that it cost so much to have a KOHLER generator installed. Normally, it's the cost of the product times two. Because of this COVID thing, it went up to three times the amount, which was a bit excessive. But we only have one KOHLER generator place in town. So we were stuck. But being in the nursing home field, so many people swear by the KOHLER Generators that they actually last longer and they're quieter and a better deal than the Generac.

    At Father's Day, we had a huge tornado that knocked out the power lines and people didn't have power for three and a half days. Our generator was running continuous for three and a half days. We had power. Everybody around us had those portable generators that only powered the refrigerator. But ours powered the whole house. It was nice too. We had to change the oil once. But it worked out okay. Then we had another time when the power went out for about an hour and there was a three-second delay and our generator kicked on and it worked out pretty slick. We’re happy that we got the natural gas generator. The product is superior and it's sort of quiet. We were supposed to get a $750 rebate but KOHLER said, "No. You didn't do a certain transfer switch." I told them we couldn't do that transfer switch because it was too large for our house. But they said they could only give us a 650 rebate. That was a bit sketchy there. But it is what it is.

I got it from Service Professor and they disconnected my doorbell transformer when they put the transfer switch in. So I gotta call them. But overall, the experience has been very positive.     All in all the unit has performed well, but I had to replace the main controller at 21 hours which was a pain getting a Kohler qualified technician to work on it in Hockley, Texas.     The only thing I am not happy with is how the composite fiberglass enclosure of the generator is degraded over just a few years. UV rays have dulled the enclosure and it looks terrible. Customer service has no suggestions except to sand it down and paint it so not happy with that but the generator has performed flawlessly.

    This generator has less than 60 hours after almost all weekly exercising after 4 years. When finally needed, the stator was bad. Burnt windings. Factory defect. Huge two man job to replace. Two service techs are in their 4th hour now tearing it completely apart. I requested from Kohler a new unit due to the extremely low hours and they refused and have indicated they won’t even participate in the labor to replace the stator. It’s pretty hard to endorse a product when they won’t stand behind it due to a factory defect and so few hours. I’m gonna gag when I see their bill and will share if allowed to on this site.

    I called Kohler and they told me to get ahold of a local rep that could install the generator for me. Airco Service, a local HVAC company, did it almost immediately and they did it perfectly. I mostly dealt with Airco Service. However, there was a $750 rebate available, and I didn't get it for a while, so I called Kohler. I had to deal with customer service to try to get that back, and they ended up sending me 650. It took three calls but it's no biggie. They were great.

    I haven't had to use the generator yet, but I charge it once a month. I was told it's for every two weeks, but every four weeks, I go out there the day before and turn it on auto so that the next day, it'll charge. It's so easy. I just turn the key, open it, and push off or auto. It's very cool. I stay at home, and I keep the generator off. I manually turn it on once a month, then I turn it back off because I don't want it bothering my neighbors for no unnecessary reason. If the electricity does go off, I wanna be able to control when I turn the generator on, because it comes on no matter what. If it comes on in the middle of the night, I don't need it, and I don't want it to wake my neighbors. I don't know if it's that loud or not, but I'm close to my neighbors and I don't want to take the chance. I don't want any trouble.

    I love my Kohler generator. It was expensive but it's something I chose to do. I'm very happy with it, and I'm not sorry that I got it at all. I would buy it again. If I didn't have it, I would buy one this year. The generator gives me peace of mind, and I know that it's gonna work. I've been in Oklahoma 17 years, and I've had three times where the electricity has been off for seven days, and I did not enjoy that at all. So, if that happens again, I can turn my generator on a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon, and then suffer like everybody else. I don't plan on running it round the clock because I think it will bother my neighbors.

    The Kohler generator tests itself dependably on the minute every weekend and we have a maintenance contract. The techs come out and check the oil. So far, we haven't needed the generator but it's doing what it's supposed to do. I would highly recommend it because it's been problem-free since it was put in. My mom was living here with us and she was very ill. She has since passed but we needed to have oxygen for her all the time so it was a matter of needing to have that backup.     I purchased a Kohler generator in 2013 right after Superstorm Sandy. I purchased Kohler over Generac because it was supposed to be a much more reliable brand.     My buddy told me that as soon as I get a standby generator, I won't have any power outages. And that's exactly true. Other than the Kohler generator running its weekly cycle for a few minutes, I haven't had any use for it. But when it does fire up, it takes 30 seconds and then, it comes on. I can hear it spin and try to start and then it starts up. The system almost sounds like it's putting a load on it. Because it'll start out halfway noisy and then it'll kind of quiet back down a little bit. Near the end of the cycle, it seems to ramp up a little bit. At this point in the game, I have no reason to believe that Kohler is not a good product and that it's not gonna do what it's supposed to do.

    We're getting up in the years and we have a sump pump in our basement and if that doesn't work right, then we get water all over the basement and we're not able to do anything about it at our age. We can't do a lot of things. So, we thought if we had a generator, then it wouldn't matter whether we're home or we were away. At least there would be power to push the sump pump. It was a precautionary thing on our part. We've used our KOHLER generator twice for about 10 minutes. So far, it's very good.

    We have peace of mind having a generator. The only thing I was concerned about is we had a lot of snow last year and we just thought, "Hey, we're home free. We got a generator," but we had to get out there and scoop it out of the snow. You can't let snow pile up around the generator. So, that was a little disappointing. We still have to go outside and clean the generator off. If we were to go away, our generator would not work if we didn't have somebody watching to clean up the snow around it. We figured out a stopgap measure to try to make sure that snow doesn't get up into the vents that they have on it.

    I would have to say this is the worst purchase I have made in the 20 years I have been in business. I had purchased an 80 KW commercial generator (about $50,000) for my business because my business is located in an area where we have frequent power outages. It started to act up soon after the warranty ran out, which was about 3 years ago. The problem began with the generator not functioning properly during a routine power outage. At the time, I called the Kohler installer who came out to do routine maintenance and was unable to diagnose the problem.

    I was then referred to the local "experts", costing $450 just to show up. The "experts" diagnosed low gas pressure and recommended I have the generator replumbed, even though it had run adequately for 5 years. I spent over $3000 to have the gas replumbed which did not fix the problem. Over the past 3 years it has been tuned up 3 more times, multiple visits by the local "experts", 2-3 times they have "recorded" readings to send to Kohler and most recently sent me another invoice for almost $3000 for the next round of attempts. At the end of the day, I expect to have almost $10,000 in repairs for a generator that may never work right. Some of the diagnostics have shown issues which could only have been from the manufacturer. Please save your money and go anywhere else!

    Streib Electric did a stellar job of installing my Kohler generator. It wasn't the most least expensive bid but the value I got from installation and not owning a Generac were what I wanted.     KOHLER has always been perfect and the unit I got from them is very dependable unit no matter what. It's a little more expensive, but I own a construction company and my electricians would refuse to put in anything but KOHLER. Right now, with my experience and with what I have done multiple times is since I put my KOHLER generator in, I have pushed at least three to four people towards the KOHLER generator and they installed them to date.     I've installed three KOHLER Generators and my experience was excellent with each one. The size of the generator was right. I wanted a two-cylinder engine instead of a one cylinder. And Kohler seemed to have the best package for that and the best sound quality. It has an automatic transfer switch so we don't have to go out and start it. It does it automatically. And if I'm not home, my wife doesn't have to worry about if there's backup power.

    There would be an outage and it would take 10 seconds for the generator to record the outage, determine it's out, and go through a start up and we switch over. That's usually the first thing that we would notice. And I would listen to see if the generator came on. It's like an air conditioner running outside. I could tell whether it's on or not.

    I had a generator that failed after a few years. Because of the type of transfer switch I had, KOHLER was the only one that would work. I start my generator manually because I'm not always at my house. It automatically transfers, but I manually start it and I can turn it off because I don't wanna listen to it at night. Then if I'm not home, I don't want it running. The way I have it set up, it does about 90% of the house, not at all at one time, but it powers up lots of stuff. I've used it for days at a time.

    I wanted a generator in case power goes out, and I looked at the GenX one. Been in the industrial business for a long time, so I need Kohler-built generators. I just didn't know how expensive they were. I got on their website, looked, and filled out the information. Then, I had the individual call me and come out and give me a quote. From start to finish, everything was really good. It was a lot of money for it. Four other people that I know have got the same generator now, and they went through a different source, and it was less money for them. But they did a superior job of setting it up. Our power goes out every once in a while, and the generator kicks on. It goes right on after about four seconds, and we don't really notice much difference except that you have to reset the clock.

I drove someplace to look at one and I was very impressed with the heft of the product. It's well put together and thought out. And I heard it run and it was very quiet.     The people that we deal with here in Colorado have been very good and nice to work with. The rep's husband is well versed in the KOHLER Generators and ours works good. It didn't take him long to hook it up. And he said the generator and inverter work together. So, he went back, looked and found out, came and wired it into the inverter and it has been wonderful. He told me how to reset the inverter and it worked great.

    We've had days when the batteries have been down and the generator decided to kick on. But we have a separate tank for the generator and we filled it last year sometime. And my wife said, "Oh, we better check, make sure we're good before the winter prices." So, I went and looked and it was just barely off of the full mark.     I got a new KOHLER generator as a replacement for another KOHLER generator that was installed in my house back in 2011. The 2011 didn't last too long. We had to change it, because it looked like the carbon was wearing out, and they couldn't find pieces for this generator. Actually, this was a replacement for a new one. They were saying those generators came out with defects. So, this one is like the one that I had before, but it runs in fewer RPMs, and they say it's more efficient. I'm living in the mountains.     The installer came, put the generator in, and everything worked fine. Having a generator is essential for the situation I'm in. My house is off the grid and if the sun's not out for a few days, I use it to charge my batteries. I use it frequently. It has a problem with the governor circuit though. The little plastic bushings go bad, and for a brand-new generator, I wasn't expecting replacing bushings. It was about $100 on it. We just had another one go bad and I had to replace that as well.

    Our generator was installed on 3/15/22. Between that date and about 5/3/23 we had more than 20 service calls on the generator. Causes: failing weekly test or failing to come on during an outage. Our electrical contractor, Streib Electric, worked tirelessly (in conjunction with Kohler) to come up with a solution. Finally, over a year later, Kohler had Streib install a new carburetor. The generator has since passed all weekly tests and we have not had a power outage yet. All of this involved a whole lot of frustration and irritation.

    I ordered this generator from AP Electric after carefully comparing competing brands. Kohler won out due to its years in the business and its outstanding warranty. The fair price was sweetened by the offer of a rebate, and this included free shipping to my curb! I was able to set the generator in place myself (with some assistance), but the fact was that I still needed a Kohler installer to hook up the system (to validate the warranty). This turned out to be a very good thing, as the gas supply line had to be installed and a larger gas meter to feed it had to be put in from the local gas company (at no extra charge!). In all, I am very happy with the Kohler generator company, the generator itself, AP Electric the supplier, and Power Pros, the installer.

    In Sept. 2022, I purchased a Kohler Generator from Colorado Standby in Colorado Springs, Co. I paid a certified master electrician to install it and he has triple checked his work. It still was not working and I reached out to Colorado Standby for help and was put in contact with a lady named Angela that works for them. From the beginning, she was very rude and hateful towards me. She will not return my calls or my electrician's calls.     Updated on 06/02/2024: In September of 2023, I contacted Kohler regarding needing assistance with finding someone to service my generator. After going back and forth several times, I was told that you contacted a business in the Macon, GA area and they will contact me. Well, that has been 36 weeks ago and no contact. I said it before and I will say it again, nobody should get a Kohler generator. The support one gets after purchase is preposterous.

After much research, we decided to purchase a Kohler 24RCL generator. We chose the 24RCL because it met our power requirements with a quiet-running, 4-cylinder, water-cooled engine.     I have a propane fueled Kohler 20KW generator at homes in Massachusetts and Maine. I also have service contracts to maintain the Kohler generators. The generator in Massachusetts is not a whole house generator because of the size of the house and electric load. The generator in Massachusetts powers all the essentials with some outlets. The generator in Maine powers the house, garage and shed. The generators have functioned properly with each outage, regardless of weather. I am particularly impressed with the casing which has kept out wildlife in both locations. My previous generator was a different manufacturer and wildlife got in and ruined the generator, so our service contractor recommended replacement with Kohler and we have not had any issues with wildlife getting into the generator.     When this generator was installed I expected transparency. NOT A CHANCE. There was no continuity between separate work crews that did the install. My yard is a mess and the ditch is still visible, rocks from the trenching litter my lawn. since the general manager did not communicate with the trenching crew, my invisible fence for my service dog was severed and left unrepaired. Pea stone around my foundation was mixed with soil from digging and left in a pile against my foundation. The owner in my opinion is a difficult person to deal with.     You shipped the unit knowing it had a defective part. The installers knew about it also. I authorized to pay for a replacement part but you would not allow it. You said would have voided the warranty. It took 4 follow up service call to fix. Get your act together. You're better than that.

    The quality of the Kohler generator has been very good. I'm completely satisfied with it. It had to come on several times and it worked fine. Every two weeks, it starts up on its own for a test run, you can open the lid and there’s a light on there to tell you the status of it. It isn't real quiet, but it's far enough away from the house, it doesn't bother me any.

    Our KOHLER generator runs every other week and it comes on automatically when the power goes out. Its price was $2,000 more than what I paid for my old unit even though they are of the same size. So, it's too costly to keep buying, but so far, I don't have any problems with it. Their customer service was very good, too.

    My neighbor and I are very disappointed that one of Kohler's representatives, Metz Electric, could go out of business and not perform the needed maintenance on our generators with no warning or advance notice. We are left high and dry with no support for our substantial investment. Doesn't speak well for the Kohler and its representatives.

    I'm a journeyman lineman. I do outside electrical work for a living and I know what happens when trees fall on wires. I don't wanna be out of electricity. I prefer KOHLER over other brands out there. If we're away for the weekend and our power goes out, my food and everything will be safe when I come home. The generator will keep me with power for as long as it needs to. People should buy it if they can afford it.
