I had a residential 20kw generator installed 2 years ago. The dealer, Prostar Electric has been excellent however we have had an ongoing issue of losing the internet connection so that I am not advised by email if the generator is running. This is an important part of owning a generator - knowing that if you are not home the power is out and the generator is running. The dealer has loaded software several times, it works for a few days and then loses connection again. I'm not sure that in good conscience I could recommend the Kohler generator because of this issue.

Generator has ran without a problem until it froze up and failed in 10 degree weather. Lost power for 10 hours. After calling my electrician I find out that it doesn’t have a fail safe for that which I find ridiculous. You buy a generator so when the power does go out you are protected. You pay a lot of money for that peace of mind.

Bought New 20KW unit for my Home 7/14/21 for Hurricane and Blackout Protection. Hurricane Ida landed in Louisiana two months later and the Kohler Generator worked for 21 hours and stopped. All the money spent, and preparation was for nothing. Two weeks with no Power and still had to send my family away until it could be repaired. Finally got it fixed and now all seems well so far. Fingers crossed. Short version of whole story.

No problems with the generator. It is just shy of 1 year old and is due for its yearly inspection some time this month. It was invaluable during this winter's ice storm. I was out of power for 54 hours and the generator worked perfectly. I have a boiler heating system and a well source for water. Everything went very well and there were no blips!

Schilling Propane installed this generator. They did a very nice job and it worked. We have only used it once for a power outage at 2 am this winter for 1 hour. It worked and we were all able to go back to sleep knowing we had full power. I do try to do a full load test every quarter and it works well.

Generator works great, very pleased, but disappointed with Wi-Fi network server connection. My ISP had a service outage months ago and I have yet to reconnect to remote connectivity. Contacted Kohler support and directions to rectify issue was not resolved.

We bought our Kohler through Generators Direct. When we had questions and called the Kohler Company directly they were extremely helpful. We've had the generator for several years now and are very pleased with it.

The 20KW Kohler Generator provides us with peace of mind in knowing that should there be a power outage we will continue to have power throughout our entire house. Since having the system installed last year we have had 2 outages and in each case the generator powered on automatically and when the power grid became active the generator seamlessly powered down. The Kohler OnCue Monitoring System is easy to use, performs automatic diagnostics, and allows us to attend to issues before the issue becomes a problem. Additionally the generator performs a power on diagnostic once a week on a prescribed schedule. We are extremely happy with our generator, and view it as one of the best investments as a home owner.

I can only attest to the quality of the equipment and dependability as being superb. I ordered and installed this generator myself because I am an electrical technician for 40 years in both industrial and residential settings. As for Kohler installation, I'm sure they have competent installers but I chose to use my own talents. The 20 kw generator has performed flawlessly through several power outages. Some lasting as long as 8-10 hours. I have approx 1400 sq ft home and I never had to use load shedding. I kept hot water, A/C or heat at all times. I run mine off propane due to my proximity to any towns and natural gas is unlikely. This unit does consume around 4 gallons per hour of use at full load. But that is pretty much in line with other brans this size. I am well pleased in the past 3 years of my unit. KOHLER make a quality product and is well thought out with its accessories.

My only complaint is the OnCue service. This is free with Generac but I had to pay $265 for the wireless adapter and got royally screwed out of $405 to install it…So $670 for what is free with Generac. When connecting me to OnCue the installer wouldn’t let me see anything so if I switch routers they’ll charge another $405 for a service charge to put it back on line. There was a month where OnCue wouldn’t connect to the server and it was issues at Kohler but we never were notified the problem was at Kohler.

The Kohler generator we bought looks good and does what we bought it to do. However, some changes would make it more reliable. After one year of ownership and less than 50 hours of use, the generator started popping and running poorly. The tech said a mouse had chewed through a coil pack wire. Certainly these generators could be made more mouse-tight, given they are for outdoor use and remain outdoors and dormant most of their life. The tech suggested mothballs. I suggest a screened in undercarriage that prevents mice from entering in the first place.

Installers were very knowledgeable about the equipment and the installation was perfect. We have been very satisfied with the performance of the equipment and service has been on time and properly. We were especially happy about the Military discount received.

I had trouble with On Cue connecting and Christine with customer service was a great to help resolve the issue. The 20K works great. We travel a lot and the system gives us peace of mind keeping power to our home.

I love it. I just wish that if I wanted to plug a cord into it and use it outside doing something that I was doing outside, I could use it. I've lost power four times a year and this generator kicks in. I also had one up at my other house too when I lived up in Milton. I'd buy the KOHLER any day of the week.

My Kohler generator can run my whole house. It'll run my welder in my shop, my air conditioning, my furnace and freezers. I just wish I would've had more time with the guy that sold it to me. Because I don't know much about the generator and he just talked to me briefly about it. Then, when it went bad on me one time and it was under warranty, I had to wait quite a while for him to come over. But we had the power go out for 45 minutes and my generator kicked on and stayed on like it was supposed to. It shut back down like it was supposed to and everything worked well.

Living in the country we experience frequent power outages. My Wife was diagnosed with a brain tumor during one of these 5 days storm related outages. That’s when I decided to get a whole house generator, that was 3 years ago. It has been a great relief knowing at anytime or any weather we would have power. Thank you for that presence of mind. The installer of my Kohler generator was great and prompt. He put it in the wrong place and, without a second question asked, he moved it to the right spot. Always there whenever I called and answered questions.

I proudly own a Skaggs Zero Turn mower, a Miller Bobcat Welding Machine, both with a Kohler gasoline engines. I therefore bought a whole house Kohler Generator 20RCA that runs on propane. Several months ago an electrical storm knocked out our power. The Kohler Generator kicked-on and ran but there was no power to the house. Come to find out the lightning shorted out the circuit board on the Kohler Generator. The electrical company that installed said that Kohler is aware of this problem, but Kohler has no fix for it. After a large bill a new circuit board was installed but this could happen again. I don't see the need in having a whole house generator if the system is not protected from lightning strikes. I will not be recommending this whole house generator.

I love Kohler. In a home that I've built on the North Shore, I put in a Generac generator only because Kohler prices were out of site. When Kohler decided to get their act down and come down to where they were affordable, I put a 20 kW here in my home where I live now. However, they should make it a little quieter. I find the Kohler generator is noisier than the Generac and they're both 3,600 RPM machines and both of them with 20 kWs that I had. In comparison, they were the same machine except the manufacturer was different.

We're satisfied with the Kohler generator. It seems to be doing its job. I like the fact that I run the Ethernet through it. I am able to access the control panel from my phone or whatever computer. I like that feature. It's a reliable generator and I'm happy to have purchased it.

A rainstorm was coming up and we had a terrible hard wind. It damaged a lot of power and broke lamps, and miles around, everybody was out without power. It was great to have a generator, and it worked fine. I've been real happy with it. I would recommend Kohler tremendously over some other generators that are sold in town and that people are buying. It's far, far more efficient.

Kohler is great. I love it. The quality is a 10.

I wish the Kohler generator had a computer chip so I can turn it on and off with my telephone when I want to. Other than that, it's been a benefit not losing stuff out of the freezer and having power when I want it.

We love our Kohler generator. We were impressed that we were able to get it sooner than later. we could have invested in a smaller one but it makes sense to get what we got in and not have to worry. We've had the techs over to inspect it every year and that worked out really well. We're very pleased about that.

I live in a very rural area and experience many electric outages…A few years ago we purchased a Kohler generator from Short’s Oil…Best investment ever! The product exceeds expectations…If you’re on the fence debating purchasing one do so…You won’t be disappointed!

We have only had one brief power outage since we have had the generator, but it came on and seemed to work fine. It has been starting every week. We do have some peace of mind just knowing that we have it.

I am disappointed at the origination, administration and eligible participants in Kohler's rebate programs. I have always loved Kohler and used them exclusively for all my indoor needs in my kitchen and bathroom. So when I considered a back up generator, I immediately went to Kohler for an estimate.

Very happy called to have yearly service and someone answered the phone and it was scheduled within a few days. Guy came on time. Was very nice and thorough. I have no complaints at all. Was very pleased. Thank you.

I did the mortal sin and bought this 14KW through a dealer called AP Electric & Generators, Pleasant Prairie, Wi 53158. I ran all my own Natural gas piping. I ran all the electric myself. To explain: I have worked most of my life in an Industrial maintenance environment. My father was a Master Electrician and I spent years working with him. So, right from the get-go, Kohler would not put the warranty in service until I had this thing checked out by some dealer. Could not get anyone to look at this unit because they won't make the big bucks. I finally found a dealer who charge me $300.00 to come out and that issue was resolved.

I liked the representative. He was very thorough and pleasant. I also like the follow-up that they do. A gentleman came in and measured and figured out where the generator would be. I had the gas company come and redo a line. They brought the unit. They put down a cement slab and then the unit on it. So it was all done very quickly, and there was no mess. Everything worked out real well. It works. My only complaint is that it is very, very loud.

The Cost, Availability, and Installation were top notch. Our former house had a competitor's generator which we used for 11 years so I am qualified to say that this Kohler generator is more energy efficient than the competitor's. I would buy this unit again if in need of a generator.

I've had devices with Kohler engines in them before and I thought it was a good brand. I got a Kohler generator. Just two days ago, we had somebody hit a telephone pole down the street. So, we were out of power for three hours and the generator worked like a charm. Having the generator, I've got some peace of mind when there's power outage. One complaint I have is it's really noisy. When it runs, it's loud. So when it runs on its test cycle once a week, it's pretty dominant in the household. I was disappointed in the sound. I've had other generators of other homes that were quieter.

Our generator has come on twice, and it works flawlessly. It does exactly what it's supposed to do, and everything's been great. We have peace of mind knowing that we're not gonna be without power or lose our food. I've already told one friend about Kohler, and they just bought one.

I researched and saw a YouTube video how KOHLER makes their generator coils and how they laminate their armature. I'm an engineer and that interested me. And the way they did it, I said, "This is something I want." However, KOHLER didn't have their act together on their service reps. So, I had to get the generator certified before I turned it on and I called the salespeople, they said I had to go to Los Angeles to get a rep. I called the company I bought it from, he said, "Oh, no, here in the valley, it's an Oakhurst, not too far from you.

We looked at many generators and we decided to go with Kohler and I know we made the best choice. It runs maintenance check each week and the first time our lights went out I was outside. Looked at weather and lighting popped and went out, for a sec and generator came on and run 6 hours before power was restored so yes we love our Kohler Generator.

The Gen set was installed by "The Generator Connection ". Workmanship was superb, start to finish, very professional. Genset has performed flawlessly since install in Oct of 2021, with several outages and weekly maint. runs. We are very pleased with the high quality of the unit and highly recommend Kohler to anyone.

In place of the order number which I do not have, I have provided my unit serial number. My 14RCA propane generator (in off-grid solar backup service) is very well designed and built. However, during the first year of service several serious problems occurred. I was unable to obtain any helpful support from Kuby Renewable Energy ltd who installed my system. However, Frontier Power Products of Calgary provided very prompt and effective repairs on warranty. At this point in time, after 1 1/2 years and about 130 hours of service my Kohler generator seems to be operating as it should.

This generator does what it's supposed to do. It runs and self tests every week and it ran flawlessly during and after hurricane Ian during the three day power outage. I also like the reports and data and the installation and service provided by Florida Power Solutions was outstanding.

I'm quite pleased with my new whole house backup generator purchased from Empire Energy. I am especially happy with the wifi kit that connects my smartphone to the new system because unlike Generac, Kohler does not charge monthly fees. IMO, Kohler is a superior product and I will recommend them to everyone I know who may be in the market.

I have had my Kohler Generator a little over one year. We have had bad weather several times and the generator came on within about 5-6 seconds after the power went off. I just could not believe it was sooo fast. I am so happy to have it and know I will never be in the "dark" and "cold" again. I certainly would recommend the Kohler to anyone wanting to purchase one.

We have heavily relied on our generator at our main house due to frequent power outages. Although heavily used the generator failed after a year. We did buy a second unit for our camp and it unexpectedly came with 2 oil fill reservoirs (same unit at home has one). The rear cap was loose and blew off during its initial use. It was dealt with by our service tech but unclear why the model differences and cap not toques at delivery.

The generator was installed without incident. The generator has tested itself weekly without fail. The generator has started and transferred to main power several times. It has operated once for a sustained period, about five days, without any issues. It has operated without incident and when required. All required maintenance has been performed by the installer Verdegy.

Since installation it has kicked in every time and run like a dream (noisy dream), and it's once a week start up has never missed. However, the company who installed it are not the best for support and assistance (BHC Power). I wanted their electrician to come back and add some more circuits and label all the current circuits for clarity. They just do not respond in time. Can you confirm that the 1 year/2000 hours warranty on the amount of time it has run i.e. it's coming up to a year and it's not run a fraction of that time, but will the warranty expire on the 1 year point?

In Sept 2022 during Hurricane Ian our generator was operating very rough and dying, unless we physically got up on a ladder and held a switch to prevent it from vibrating and losing power. This was done every 2-3 hours. The generator was under warranty at the time. We tried to get Florida Power Solutions to contact Kohler to discuss replacement options. They never did, and decided to run a series of tests to determine if they could uncover the issue. We are not sure if the issue has been fixed as we have not experienced long term power outage like we had during the hurricane. Obviously we are very concerned that the issue may repeat itself in the event of a similar outage. This is not acceptable and their customer service has been anything but professional and responsive. Wish you offered the same warranty as Generac. Purchasing an annual service contract should have raised a red flag. Specifically as a review of my experience with Kohler, it has functioned quite well and to my expectations.

Took over 6 months to arrive, required controller to be replaced and letter to President to get results. After initial issues has been problem free. WiFi monitoring should be totally wireless and not require an Ethernet cable connection.

The wireless app connection rarely works. Whenever it gets serviced, it eventually drops the connection after a couple days. So we basically have a connection 2 days out of the year. It would be nice to monitor the parameters of the weekly test results but we haven't been able to do so since purchase.

Florida Power Solutions installed our 38KV Kohler whole house Generator. It has been working flawlessly for the past 1.5 years. We lost power for 5 days due to Hurricane Ian. The generator worked perfectly and kept the power on for our entire home for the 5 days. The unit goes into automatic test mode once a week and it is so quiet you can barely hear it running.

Purchased a 12k backup generator. Runs fine. Luckily, only required it three short periods of time since having it installed. Only beef with the product is whenever the firmware updates, it doesn't automatically update the firmware on the generator. It's not until the local service provider comes for their annual inspection are they able to update the unit's firmware. So for approximately six to nine months I'm not being notified via my cell phone the generator is running.

We live in a rural, wooded area. The power goes off frequently due to limbs and trees falling during windy weather. Our generator kicks on in just a few seconds and we don’t have to do anything. We can sleep in comfort on hot and humid nights. We would recommend Kohler to anyone thinking of purchasing a Generator.

When we started looking for a home standby generator I'm the type person that reads all the reviews. When reading the reviews between Kohler, Generac, Briggs & Stratton I found that the Generac is very strong in advertising, but what I also found is Generac also had a very high repair rate. Seems that there was always something people was complaining about being broke. When I started looking deeper into the Kohler generators I found nothing but satisfaction from the customers so we chose the Kohler for the dependability, quietness and less use of propane. We, we are super excited to get it installed and let it work for us through the Louisiana hurricane season. Thank you Kohler for building a great unit. We look forward to many years of service as per what the reviews say. And not to mention the 10-year warranty is a plus.

We had a whole home service this installed and we never know when the power is out! We also have wonderful service from GECO and weekly reports as the generator is on our WI-FI and monitored for possible issues! It is a wonderful feeling knowing that we have a reliable power supply and 24/7 service.

Kohler doesn't spend a lot of money advertising, like the other generators. They also had a better rating and I liked its warranty. We had an outage for eight hours because of the hurricane and we had no problems with the generator.

It's been a good experience with our Kohler generator. It's peace of mind knowing that if the power goes out, we have power and it's reliable.

We're on a rural electric cooperative, and I'm gone from home for months at a time. My wife wanted a house generator. We got one from KOHLER and it gives her peace of mind. For the same price, we got a little more power and wattage from KOHLER. So, it was a value. It's expensive but it works fine. Since we bought it, it's been on about seven times. My wife doesn't feel like she's without power.

It finally got installed last fall. Roughly October was when it actually got put into service. I did have a few issues, but they were related to the installation. Once those were corrected, the thing has run great. It actually has seen the intended use several times since it's been installed. We had a very severe ice storm last year. So it got three days of solid use. I'm happy that I made that purchase. But the documentation for the installation could have been better. They probably need to do something to address some of the enclosure issues related to keeping mice out rather than relying on the homeowner to do that. Overall, the product quality is excellent.

We lose power so often in our community. I got a KOHLER generator and it works great. It's an instant on and off. We ran it for, one time, six hours and it worked really great. We're very happy with the generator. We had it a full year. We just had the yearly maintenance and everything is in good shape. I just call the company that installed it, and they come by. We don't even need to be there. They do whatever they need to do and that was it.

I had a friend who purchased a Kohler generator and was happy with it. Upon doing research, I found that more of the parts were American-made and I felt more comfortable with it. The warranty was better too. It covered the entire unit, so if somebody comes out to service it, the part and the person's time is covered, and I don't believe that's the case with some of the others. The generator worked fine when I needed it. It's been a great experience and I'm very happy with it.

Using Kohler has been an excellent experience. I have peace of mind with them as my generator. It works as it should.

The Kohler Generator is reliable and fairly quiet compared to others I've heard. The reason for the three star rating was the installation process by Generator Connection. After installation they had to come back THREE times as they'd failed to wire in all circuits as outlined in the contract. Before they'd come back they required me to send pics of insides of all the breaker panels (it's a duplex) and questioned what was supposed to be wired in even though it was outlined in the contract. I haven't voiced any complaints to them as I now have to work with them for service of the generator...but it was not a wonderful experience!

I have had my Kohler generator for over going on 8 years. The best thing I have invested on. It has been a blessing m. Where I live in the woods we lose power a lot. 7 years ago my better half was diagnosed with cancer he was on a machine. We could not lose power. A friend recommended BGR power. They came, told me exactly what I needed. My boyfriend has since passed but it has been a lifesaver even now. In the last year we have lost power 10 times probably more.

We’ve had our Kohler generator for less than a year and used it twice in the two big outages. We live in Michigan and one was the ice storm that took a whole bunch of trees. I told people about the generator. I didn't sell them, but they got Kohler generators. It runs good and it’s quiet. We like it. It has been starting up great. I bought the app so it'd be online. It was working fine but I forgot the password and now, I can't see if it's working or not. I bought it so if I was on a vacation, which for now we're in Florida, I wanna see if it would kick on or not. The last time for an outage, I couldn't see if it kicked on because when our power went out, our internet went out. So, I had no idea if it was running or not. That was a bummer but that's not Kohler’s fault. It was a $500 package deal for having the app and that was a waste of money for me but everything else is running great.

We lived in the foothills of Northern California for many years and on occasion would lose power. Our home was approximately 3000 Sq ft, plus a little 800 Sq ft cottage on the property for our daughter. We had a Kohler generator installed that effortlessly powered both homes. It was much more quiet than the other generators in the area. And we loved it.

Nothing but good things to say. We live remote and are the last residence on the power supply. 9 times two years ago over 24 hrs w/ no power. Researched Generac, nothing but problems and bad reviews. Kohler was the only choice. Reliable dependable, easy to maintain. Expensive investment, but worth every dollar.

My guy that works for Kohler and that set me up, Steve, was great, and the generator has been working fine. I got it for safety. I got propane, and I wanted something where if the power goes off, I can last a couple of weeks. With all the shutdowns, PP&L, you never know when they're just gonna shut the power off. My guy just came out and serviced it couple of days ago. He's a good guy.

We purchased 3 Kohler generators for our 3 Properties. They are terrific - well made, WiFi access with app to check their functioning, easy service and terrific customer service from Power Outage in Topsfield, MA. The generator serial numbers are: Serial #-33DCGMHG0023, 33DCGMHM0026 & 33DCFMJG0092. We are thrilled with our purchases. The 1st purchase replaced a Generac. From that one came 2 more purchases. Thank you for making a terrific product.

I bought a new house down in Florida and live here full time now. We have hurricanes, so I decided to get a generator from KOHLER for backup purposes. I did my homework on it and they're definitely the best built out of all of them. Everything about KOHLER is definitely much better and you don't pay much more. They just don't advertise as much as Generac. They advertise like crazy and their units aren't as strong. They'll do the job. But I'd rather have a KOHLER any day. They're American-made too and I'm big on that.

Not functioning consistently when first installed. After several months it was discovered not all changes had been made to convert from natural gas to LP. Once corrected it has worked fine and consistent.

Needed a replacement transfer switch at time of installation. Worked fine the first couple of outages but one year in and it has not started up during last 2 power outages and the installer JDWiring can't figure out why it "throws an error". This is not acceptable. I don't know what to do now.

I have had my generator 1 1/2 years. Since having it installed, I have only had it come on for 10 minutes or less. Just enough time to have to reset my clocks! The company installing the generator was very professional, timely & very clean. I would highly recommend ECS Electric & Kohler.

Well, I was leery about Kohler since we've had so so results with their bathroom's (toilets) vanities. These whole home generators have been different so far. We have the 14RESA model (14 Kw) with an ATS switch unit. For the house's size and electrical requirements that we have this is more than enough power. Many local contractors, also including other competitor's brands will try overselling you what you do NOT need for a lot more money. Don't fall for the sales hype crap.

We could not be happier with everything about our generator. Our installer/servicer (Harrison Generator) was amazing and took the needed time for our complex and custom project. Everything went exactly as told, and it works perfectly. The peace of mind during storms is priceless.

I spoke with one of our electrical installers here and he said Kohler has a good engine. They have okay electronics and auxiliary systems. I like their new metal enclosure design. It is far superior than anything I've seen as far as service ability. You can remove the entire case around the generator in a matter of minutes. I've never had a missed start on the Kohler. That is way better than what all my neighbors have.

KOHLER is a good company. I'm happy with the generator and the people that work there. I'd recommend KOHLER to anybody that is looking for a generator.

The generator has been a lifesaver during the recent California power outages. Two 48 hour and a 5 day. I invited the neighbors to bring their refrigerables and come warm up and recharge their devices. One significant problem. Noise. I am looking for a solution for excessive noise in much of the house.

We can get some big storms here in Lakewood Ranch Florida. We do not want to be driving in dangerous traffic during an evacuation. Our home is hurricane sufencent for up to 150 mph wind and we are well above the floodplain. We want to be safe and comfortable while riding out storms. We have sufficient bottle water and food stored away and the KOHLER generator will keep us supplied with power. Our last outage lasted for over an hour but we cool and safe. Four neighbors were so impressed with our Kohler generator, they had Florida Power Solutions install a Kohler generators at their homes.

When I moved into our home (and area with more trees and power outs). There was a 14K Generac generator installed. It was Loud and unreliable. It constantly had to be reset. After 4 years we had enough and Purchased a Brand New Kohler 21K Generator. We have it for one year. It was slightly higher in price compared to Generac, but is absolutely worth every penny. Power comes on Fast! even with A/C or heat on. Starts weekly, App that tells me everything I need to know by giving me data in real time. This Generator is much quieter than the previous one. The Best is NO more Propane smell. By far I recommend this Generator over Generac and before you look at anything else.

I have had my backup generator since January 2022. It actually was needed the first evening after installation and performed perfectly, as it has 2 more times since. It test starts automatically every two weeks. All components have performed perfectly. Totally pleased with its performance and cost for equipment and installation.

The unit was installed in December of 2021. We are of two (2) instances in which we lost power, and the Kohler generator performed flawlessly. It has a weekly maintenance cycle which turns the unit on for 15 minutes; -again, we've encountered no issues with this unit's operation. We also noticed that the Kohler generator itself operates much more quietly than a "Generac" unit we had used in a weekend cottage in Connecticut.

Whole house generator that powers everything in my house was installed a year ago. It's kicked on a few times during brief power outages. It self-tests every Monday afternoon and results appear on my phone in the On Cue app. Installer performed annual service last month. I'm very happy with the peace of mind Genny provides! It is well worth the investment and I've recommended both Kohler and the installer, Dave ** from Power Pros Inc., to a number of people.

Not quite two years ago, we had a new Kohler generator installed based on the recommendation of our local generator dealer. The old unit was not a Kohler. We are happy with our purchase and we have not had any problems with our unit to date. Fortunately we have not had many power outages recently, but it's great peace of mind to know that it's there and ready to go. We did have one significant outage at Christmas 2022 and that outage lasted for 73 hours. It was great to have it running.

Our cabin loses electricity quite often. So we bit the bullet & purchased a Kohler backup generator. Also upgraded to a 1000 gallon propane tank (highly recommended). It’s great peace of mind knowing when we aren’t there for weeks in the winter, that we don’t have to worry about outages & our furnace not working! We just built a new home & we will be adding another Kohler generator here as well.

We love our whole house generator. Not nice, but we do a little giggle when the power goes out in the neighborhood and we have power. So glad we did this investment and wish we would’ve done it sooner. We have had for over five years now.

Purchased a 8.5KW standby generator in 2018. 1st issue occurred in 2020 when the control module failed. Kohler covered the parts under warranty but I had to cover labor. The 2nd (major) issue occurred in December (2022) when the Generator died during an outage. The technician came out (spent 15 min with the generator) and informed me that he believes the engine seized. The generator only had 75 hours on it (only 11 hours if when you subtract out the weekly maintenance runs)! Warranty claim was submitted to Kohler since it was still within the 5 year warranty.

The best money we have ever spent. In Upstate NY (as in on Canadian Border), we have frequent outages due to snow, ice & wind. Never thought I would be excited about a machine, but peace of mind is worth every cent spent!

I originally got a unit seven years ago and it never worked correctly. I had got a five-year warranty and there was some significant repair work that occurred inside the warranty period and then, the engine failed right outside of the warranty period. So, Kohler ended up replacing the engine at no cost, but I had to pay the labor and that took probably six months to negotiate with them. I threatened to call the CEO of the company and as soon as I made that threat, I got somebody who was a decision-maker on the phone almost immediately. The person I dealt with was very helpful but that was the extent that I had to go to to actually get help. Then the second engine blew up and Kohler said they were not doing anything for me anymore and I have to buy a new unit. And because the plumbing and electrical set up was there for a Kohler, I had to order another Kohler. Because if I had ordered another brand, it would have had to be reconfigured.

I talked to a couple different companies that were selling Generacs, and another company here locally that was Kohler. I had a better feeling about Kohler, so I went with it. I live in Mississippi, and it's made in Mississippi. The generator store I purchased from is top-notch.

I'm using Kohler as a backup generator for the house. It's come on twice since it was installed. The power stays on. I'll recommend Kohler over Generac.

The generator works like a charm. It’s wonderful. I got it from a guy I deal with and they recommended Kohler and I’m glad they did. I’ve used the generator a number of times. Every time there's a power outage, within seconds, it comes on and gives me all the power I need.

It was great when I purchased our Kohler generator. I was familiar with the local dealer here, Power Solutions. I've seen them do a lot of different projects around town, so I called them up, and they hooked us up and did a great job on the installation. The last hurricane that came through, we were without power for a week, and it saved our bacon. Ran for a week straight. It runs off natural gas. So far, so good. I get emailed when it needs to be serviced. It was serviced a week ago and so far, the experience has been great.

The company that installed our Kohler generator has been awesome. They were here one time. There was something they had to do. They got the message before I even knew there was a problem.

I used the Kohler generator during the hurricane that just came through and it worked fine. It's a whole house generator and it runs everything. I like that with it, I get to have power when there's no power to be had. The cost and quality are good, and I would pick Kohler over any other brand.

From beginning to completion GECO was there and everything went perfectly, including increasing the generator size after the initial order, after care, and the internet enabling to have the app on my phone.

My wife retired this July. She told me I better get a generator before winter. I did my research and Kohler was the one, I have seen the huge ones in office buildings so I knew this was it for us. We are happy it comes on when we need it. One day the temperature was-15 with the wind it was -35, it warmed us right up, TV on, hot water. The best investment we ever made.

Generator was installed as agreed but when the salesman came to our house, he mentioned that would be able to monitor the generator from our phones. We downloaded app and could not connect. Called numerous times and then was told it would be an extra 300.00 for the wiring. We paid almost 14k for this generator, highly disappointed they did not include the wiring.

We had a general idea of what we thought we needed in terms of the strength of the generator. So, it was a matter of this person saying, “Here's the bare minimum for you in terms of kilowatts, and if we did that, you would have to flip the six breakers to get the power to minimally run your home. Or you could go with this other generator that would run the whole house, and you wouldn’t have to be managing breakers.” And we were in a position where we could afford to do that upgraded generator, and that is what we chose. It was very straightforward.

KOHLER always makes a good product and the local dealers had a good reputation. I trusted them. I got a generator for backup. My experience has been satisfactory.

I'm glad the generator is there when the power goes out and it's very easy to use. Also, I really like the local business that I worked with.

Paid extra for the Kohler because I wanted the best. Very satisfied with unit. Just wish the side panels would fit easier without having to squeeze front and back panels to get side panels to fit properly. Also wish the screens in side panels were aluminum or stainless. Looks like my exhaust side is beginning to rust after paint was burnt off. Last, with unit had a cool down cycle. Unit quits as soon as it transfers power back. Thank you, Mike **.

The Kohler 10RESV series generator provided peace of mind during recent ice storms, though we avoided needing it at that time. However, had a short 4-hour power outage last summer. We were happy to hear it switch on, almost wished it we had more of a chance to truly need it since installation (Dec.'21).

We used our Kohler generator a week ago because the electricity went off again. It went well. So far, I've been really pleased with it.

Somebody crashed into an electrical pole the other day. For 15 minutes, we lost electricity. The generator kicked on. It is a great thing to have. Specifically, based on my electrician's recommendation, Kohler is one of the best.

I would recommend a KOHLER generator. I like not having to hook up the other one when the electricity goes out.

I’m unable to start a little generator, a pull starter, so I wanted one that would start by itself. Once a week, it checks itself and makes sure it runs. A lot of people around me have lost power, but we haven't.

Gillitzer Electric's install was professionally done on a winter day - much appreciated to get this generator installed quickly. After generator system install, the system had to automatically start at least 3-4 times in the last year and deliver electricity to our home for at least 5-6 hours per time. This generator system works very well.

I was excited about getting our Kohler generator in and it took a little time to get it. But other than that, my experience was great. They had a subcontractor who came out to install it and it went smoothly. I have rental houses and nothing ever goes smoothly in selling and remodeling houses. The service guy said that the generator would crank up every Friday at 10:00 AM and it does that every Friday. It runs and shuts off. I've been thinking about getting it for a few years and I didn't want to spend that money. But to have your livelihood and family made comfortable in a time like a hurricane, you can't put a price on that.

Would have been 5 stars but here's why. I was pretty upset after having my brand new Kohler generator installed. Something didn't seem quite right. Wasn't running smoothly. Then one day I decided to take a look under the hood and oil was everywhere. So the contractor I used (and they were GREAT!), diagnosed two bad seals that needed to be replaced, so they did that repair.

Gen works great. Love it. I have tried to buy an extended warranty but have had no luck. Now I see extended warranties are included. Maybe I should have waited. The Kohler web site or sales people are unable to help.

I sought to replace my Kohler 14kw Generator on the advice of Selkirk Power Generation; They replaced the existing unit with a newer model of the same rating. The new generator had numerous problems trying to maintain voltage control which were tuning related issues. The controller was replaced with the one from my old generator so it would work. Around 200 hours, the carburetor vibrated loose (see image) and fell off the engine shutting the generator down. This was remounted and over the next 80 days continued to have problems with what was supposed to be a brand new machine. The over frequency and control problems became so severe I contacted Selkirk Power Generation and asked for a replacement, ending up paying more money to upgrade to a competitor brand. I will NEVER buy another Kohler product, the quality control has definitely gone way down because of the pandemic I guess….

This generator has worked flawlessly, when it's needed most to power heat, hot water, lights and the necessary appliances. This is critical during extreme cold spells, or even heat waves to function normally and avoid food spoilage.

Researching residential stand by generators was certainly more involved than I was thinking it would be when I started this project. A constant flurry of Generac commercials piqued my interest, Kohler had no advertising I saw. Online research yielded the Kohler brand which I knew as quality products from kitchen and bath products. Ritzman Electric was listed as a Kohler gold star vendor. Mike and Sarah were instrumental in our education and, once our decision was made aware, taking care of all the details every step of the way, providing once again Marketing gets your attention Sales closes the deal. The only refinement I would urge on the manufacturer is to increase the sound deadening insulation. The product has worked flawlessly.

I went generator shopping after an outage left us without running water for 6 days. My local installer recommended Kohler so I trusted them and I couldn't be happier I did. This thing runs perfectly and is very reliable. It's fairly quiet for what it accomplishes, much more than a smaller generator would be. Powers my whole house and looks pretty nice in the enclosure. It's definitely not an eye sore. Fantastic product.

We had a new Kohler installed, found out that there was a faulty part this was still under warranty Kohler repair person came and installed the defective part finally and finally the unit works. I had to pay for the service, and the new part. They said it would take 6 to 8 weeks to receive my credit on the defective part. I contacted my service person several times and they said they have not heard back from Kohler. I paid over 300 for the service and 1,500 for the part so not happy the I have not received my credit. But I am happy that my generator is finally working like it should. Thank you Anna Martinez

I had the generator for 4 years. It had 100hrs on it and the alternator/stator went out rendering it useless. Not at all satisfied. All maint. was done on schedule..This Generator was done through a Third party with the solar package. I was told by the Solar company KOHLER will not stand behind the warranty and that I needed to buy a new generator. I also called KOHLER and was told the same thing. Buyer beware.

I had complete confidence in the electrician that was responsible for the generator. He told me who had to look at it to oversee the final installation. I had had the representative come to the house previously, too. So it was a good experience. The generator is great. It comes on when it's supposed to. I'm glad we did it. When the electricity goes off, the generator comes on within a few seconds. There's nothing that we have to do for it, and there's no concern that the power is gonna remain off.

Kohler 12 RESV generator. After being In service for 1 1/2 years 100 hours use, (local electrician and propane company installed new), unit cranks but will not start and getting Kohler service out to look at it is impossible, I contacted the two dealers in the area and was told they do not service units they did not sell and install. I can't even get an appointment out of them, so basically your warranty is useless, Kohler appears to have a weak service network that is extremely limited and for that reason alone I can't recommend this unit, it is just a yard ornament now.

Power went out, generator came on...for 3 seconds. Done. Right when we needed it most! Called the emergency number. Guy comes out and says the stator went out. Can't fix it for 2 days. What?? I am so angry. We ran it once a week with no trouble. This thing is less than 2 years old! I wish I heeded the reviews.

Purchased a 24Kw Marine Propane Stand-by gen with an automatic transfer switch from a "approved" Kohler seller. Do not waste your money. Horrible service and no call backs from Kohler customer service. Spent over 2K on repairs by a Kohler certified repaiman due to a rough running engine and the issues were never resolved. Replaced it with a Honeywell 24Kw genorator.

During Hurricane IAN the whole home generator initial came on when electrical power was lost; however, as the storm intensified (around midnight), the system failed. This required waiting for winds to subside in order to open Hurricane Shutters to investigate. Discovered that the container latch failed and the cover was open, exposing the inside to wind and rain. This appears (in my opinion) to be a critical design failure, as wind tunnel testing should have identified this as a potential risk, and measures taken by KOHLER to mitigate this challenge.

I see others have had the same troubles we have had with our Kohler Generator. We purchased in Oct 2019. It would fail when needed, resulting in unhappy guests and lost income. Finally got a guy to come out (1.5 hrs away for a licensed tech plus cost of mileage) and discovered it was never properly installed. LPG Orifice was zip tied to the unit and should have been installed to accommodate propane. We were told we were overloading the system when in fact it has been like flooding an engine. I hope it works next time. We completely regret ever having this installed to the tune of over $12,000 in investment. Nothing but frustration on our end with service calls costing way too much money.

My 20Kw generator worked ok for the first few years. I spent $350 a year for preventive maintenance and it turned out to be for nothing. The PC controller failed leaving the unit useless! The repair cost estimate was approximately half the cost of a new unit. ($1200 part) The unit has been in service for 4-1/2 years and now it's a boat anchor. I've had 3 outages in 4-1/2 years. Looking back, this generator was a real waste! I live near Greensboro NC and there isn't a factory authorized repair person in our 5 county Triad area. The closest technician is 2-1/2 hrs away near Fayetteville NC. When I am able, I will replace this unit with a Generac. No more Kohler for me. I certainly wouldn't recommend them to anyone I know.

I just upgraded my old Kohler generator to the latest model a week ago. During the weekly test, the generator basically blew itself up. I was told by the installing contractor, he has seen several others do the same thing within that last few months. To make matters worse, Kohler can't give me an estimate when I will have a replacement. Stay away from Kohler until they can fix this defect!!

Generator purchased after Hurricane Delta. Generator never worked right. We live in Louisiana. Generator was taken back to where it was purchased by buyer for repairs. When generator was returned it still did not work properly. We have sent many emails and someone has come to our place to fix it but it still does not work. We paid $6000 for the generator including installation fees and have had it since last year and it never worked right and still does not work. We have asked to return it or to replace it. Kohler Generator Customer Service does not respond. My 90 year old Mother lives on our yard and we do not want to be without electricity. We was without electricity from our electrical company 6 weeks after Delta. We are back in the hurricane season now and would like to get the issue resolved.

Thanks to our wonderful Kohler Generator and Castle Rock Electric, we have had power during several Pandemic Time electrical outages, some for days at a time! Never did we have to worry that we would not have power and especially water usage since we are on a well and need electricity.

14KW. So far so good. Had an initial issue with kicking on when the power went off. The control panel was replaced under warranty (thank goodness as they are expensive). After that it has been fairly flawless.

Good generator, very reliable. It could be quieter with less vibration and I would give it a higher rating. I'm very happy to have it any way being in Hurricane alley!! I think it has a 5 or 7 year warranty!

We bought 3 whole house Kohler Generators over a period of the last 15 years. The first two were for our main house and a guest house on our property. The homes were on an island and we had quite a lot of power outages. They came on in about 8 - 10 seconds after we lost power and worked flawlessly. Whether they were on for only a few hours or a couple of days, we had everything going in the houses as we normally would.

Ordered a 13KW generator in September 2020 with a $4000 deposit- it is now mid February 2021. I have contacted the contractor and Kohler several times for delivery and installation updates with little to no response. Covid is one thing, lack of a response and service is another. I will never trust or do business with Kohler generators again as they have not provided timely responses or given confirmation of a delivery date while they still appear to be selling the product through numerous 'dealers'. This used to be a respectable company - Just find another company.

I own a 17KW Kohler generator which only has 785 hours on it. Recently the fan became unattached from the engine and damaged the fan shroud on the unit. Kohler has discontinued the part and no replacement is available. So now I am left with a hunk of metal that cannot be used since Kohler does not have a replacement part. I would not recommend a Kohler generator because even if it works today like it may not work tomorrow because a critical part is not available.

Clock timer was set wrong.

We are an electrical contractor who have installed over 200 generators. To keep the review legit, we will not disclose the brand we have sold exclusively since 2012, however we will share that Kohler machines have been the least reliable and most problematic of any generator we have ever sold or serviced, including; Winco, Generac, and Briggs and Stratton. Kohler will not answer tech questions directly, you must call the distributor. Our local distributor has a guy who pages through the manual and reads it to you over the phone. We finally partnered with another strictly generator company so that we’d have someone with years of field experience on actual machines, and regarding more complex issues. Here are examples of problems we’ve had. Should mention that these units were all serviced annually:

Purchased a Kohler 20KW natural gas unit 1-9-17 -unit installation turned into a disaster, finally got unit installed and started. We live along the East Coast. Wanted the peace of mind when the power went out that the unit would keep our home livable, unit worked great until 11-29-2018. Have been trying to get unit repaired properly since, today is 12-5-2019. For a year I've had techs here multiple times, replaced battery and gas regulator at a cost of $300.00 to me. Unit still will not start and run spins over but doesn't start. Tech came again replaced stepper motor, same issue. Tech came back removed throttle body to check gasket at butterfly, was ok. Tech came back checked all the internal wires for poor connection none found, tech came back took out controller and took it to shop to check it over, came back reinstalled controller same issue, ordered new controller and installed, unit now will start but hunts terribly.

Purchased a 20KW Kohler Generator from a Generator Retailer. They were great installing and servicing it. The thing has had problems since day one hunting, voltage drops constantly. Kohler has said the motor needs to be replaced but won't pay for it. The Tech. has been out here in storms in winter and summer at least 20 times. Called Kohler Customer Service, that's a waste of time. I contacted the President of Kohler. He was nice but palmed me off to his VP of Customer who is of no help just puts you off, he was useless and told me not to contact them any longer, what kind of company are they????

If you are considering installing a whole-house generator, I would recommend against Kohler. After having our Kohler 20 RESAL model professionally installed five years ago, the machine has almost never operated correctly. It has only kicked on automatically for a few of the many power outages we’ve had. We’ve had to call repairmen at least 8 times in the short duration since it was installed, and have already poured more money into repairs than the machine is worth. Kohler has been resistant and argumentative over honoring their short warranty. After just 9 hours of operation, the machine now requires another thousand dollars worth of repairs. Kohler has refused any help. I would rate Kohler generator operation, customer service, warranty, and my satisfaction with this product as poor. We are now replacing this machine with a Generac. The Generac comes with a ten year warranty.

I purchased a new boat 9 months ago with 11 kw Kohler generator model 11EK0ZD. From day one the generator shut down continuously due to the LOP (Low Oil Pressure). The oil has been change twice. Despite endless phone calls describing the situation and disappointment in their product, Kohler customer service accepted that they have problem with the oil pressure sensor and they are running a campaign to replace the sensor. I tried to get the Kohler tech to replace the sensor in South Florida and everyone wants to charge $200 per hour and $1.95 per mile, and they requested a credit card to before they send a technician.

I purchased a new Kohler 20RES generator 6 months ago from a local good authorized dealer. They were the highest bidder. It locked up when running a weekly test 4 weeks ago. My dealer spent 8 hours in the freezing cold troubleshooting the problem and codes. My dealer says the engine is dead and the entire unit should be replaced with a new unit, but Kohler is wanting him to change the engine on site. Stupid. The warranty states Kohler Co. can only inspect a product for purpose of the warranty and an agent cannot, but Kohler will not send an employee to make the warranty adjustment inspection. I’m screwed.

I replaced a 6 year old Guardian generator that constantly broke down and finally the main stator failed. I had never heard of Kohler generators, just bathroom fixtures! My repairman suggested it, as he had been installing them for many years and seldom had any problems. I paid a little more than the repairs for my old generator to install the new Kohler (Kohler 20KW Residential Backup Generator). It now has been almost 3 years of flawless reliable service. I just had it serviced (I never had it serviced and it was not exercising) and the tech told me not to let it exercise regularly as it never really gets a chance to warm up and builds up a white film in the crankcase. He said my generator looks brand new; it has about 43 hours of run time on it and he said it is well made. I live on the West Coast close to the ocean, so I am always concerned about moisture build-up, but if the tech says everything looks brand new, I will assume this is a well-made machine!

I just wanted to share a blog article I wrote about my bad experience with a Kohler 20RESAL home standby generator. Poor support, frequent failures, unreliable, Kohler won't help much at all, have to deal with "authorized service providers" which are expensive even for warranty issues, etc. If you are considering a Kohler I recommend that you please read this. We had a Kohler 30RES generator installed ten years ago. Little did we know then that we had bought a dud that Kohler would not stand behind. Technicians refer to it as "The Screamer" because it runs at 3600 rpm, double the speed of Kohler's (supposedly) better generators. It failed to start during the recent ice storm despite having been professionally maintained, and my family and I ended up in a hotel. Exactly the situation we thought we were avoiding by having a generator.

I purchased my Kohler generator a few years ago. Overall cost with electrician, gas hookup, Kohler service tech (for warranty purposes) and cost of generator was around $7500. I have performed the annual oil/filter and spark plug changes (which is the only maintenance that is to be performed until 300 hours per the owner’s manual.) The first oil change is scheduled for 100 hours or annually. Its first failure occurred at only 82 hours and cost $200 dollars to repair. At 150 hours it will no longer run... Again.

Kohler did not put a model # on the boat generator. The generator starts but will not stay running. Put out only 35 Volts. We cannot get parts because of no model #. The circuit board was found to be OK. We don't know it there is a starting capacitor or not. This is in a 41 Viking Yacht. Any help will be great appreciated.

Been trying to get Kohler generator serviced since November 2017, now February, still no service. Have called multiple times to so-called Kohler service in Portland and Saco and have yet to receive callback to schedule. They’ll sell them to you fast but good luck afterwards. You’re on your own. Think about this when considering buying a Kohler generator. Absolutely wretched service.

I have owned a 14kw Residential Generator for about 6 years. I have had the recommended service done every 6 months by a certified dealer. Runs weekly, loaded transfer tested every service period. Now, when I really needed it, big storm, it will not come on. Under voltage alarm. Trees down on both ends of our road so service couldn't come if I could even get them to come. This lousy generator will be replaced with another brand proto. I do not recommend Kohler to anyone who needs dependable service, ever.

Generator controller went out and was replaced with a part that doesn't have as much capability. I contacted the manufacturer and they told me I just had to live with it. Having to reset the exerciser requires paying a service rep to come out or using a laptop and trying to do it myself. Very disappointed with the way they treated me.

It is very good brand and it is high quality. It is easy to operate and can be used outdoors. Powerful, portable and super sleek with lots of great features. Even more power and fuel efficiency in a quiet, portable package. It is very easy to carry and it is not too much expensive. It is the best.

All of the quality of the machine are great and useful. I have a great time using and storing the item. Easy to use. Also, the reviews were great. I researched the product and there are no bad things. I would truly recommend this machine to everyone in need.

Have to do a lot of research and make decisions on things like stationary or standby, features that you want, consumer reviews. I ordered my Kohler Generator from Home Depot and went to pick it up when they got it in. Transporting home was no problem. We have a truck. It has super reliability and performance with a 5-Year or 2000 hour limited warranty, has a locking roof, fuel and electrical connections through the enclosure wall eliminate the need for stub-ups through the bottom. But it can't power all devices, runs on propane or natural gas which is expensive unless it's a must have for you and having a large tank on your property can be unsightly.

Kohler makes a high quality generator and it was on sale so it cost the same as the Generac which I thought was not built as well Kohler. Also, they gave us a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. And so, I purchased from them. I like that there are text alerts and natural gas fuel. The generator is also very quiet and low maintenance. The pad it came with is nice and high in case it floods. Also, automatic start and my wife doesn't have to manually start anything. However, the installation was expensive and we had to have the power off all day when the installation was booked. The generator is also too far off our house and it was difficult to get permits. Had to upgrade my gas service. It's not pretty looking as well and we had to exclude our solar power system. But overall happy so far.

We had a huge wind storm that knocked out power all over the city. We didn't want our food to thaw so we bought a Kohler generator. The stock was fairly limited because everyone was out buying them. We bought what was the best deal we could find. With the generator, I like that I can power my house when the electricity goes out!! I'm also happy that a tank of gas will last a pretty long amount of time. Also it seems it requires minimal maintenance. However, I'm not happy that it doesn't have that high of a power capacity. We can only power a few of our appliances when the power goes out. And I don't like the fact that I have to run the generator until all of the gas runs out so the gas doesn't get old and ruin the generator.
