I'm the facilities manager for Medina County for the county in Texas, and they had an existing Kohler generator at one of the locations. I like the fact that it could send me all the updates, when it's running, not running, or attached to the Internet. So whenever I needed to replace one, I go with Kohler because I had those capabilities.
It's attached to our refrigerators in which we keep our vaccines in. In an event of a power outage like we had in 2021, we were able to keep the vaccines acclimatized during that power outage because of the generator. We also have radio towers throughout the county that transmit all of our emergency radio equipment, so for sheriff's office, ambulance, fire, we have backup generators. One of them broke down at our Natalia location, so that's the new one that I just signed up and put down.
Then up at one of our other towers which is up by Mico, we had a power outage up there that lasted two days, and the generator ran and kept that tower up and running for emergency services during that time. And that's a Kohler that's up there, so it’s proven. Now I'm getting ready to do another one down at one of our precinct yards which has an old gas generator in there. I need to take it out and I wanna put a Kohler in that one too.

The customer service was great when I purchased the generator. The generator is good. It exercises every two weeks. I like fact that if the power goes out, I'll still have power.

The installation of our Kohler generator was excellent. We received two different quotes from people that dealt with KOHLER and we were happy with the company that we went with. They had it done within a day and they had to do electrical work and bury the tank.

I wanna try Kohler out because I already had Briggs and Stratton one-time, so I wanna see how Kohler works. I bought it and it's working so far. When the power is out, you want your food to stay good and you wanna be able to protect your house with your alarms and all that stuff going on.

Our experience with Kohler was great. The electrician here recommended it and he said they're a little better than Generac, more reliable and easier to get parts for it. So, it really wasn't a hard decision for us to choose Kohler. Everything about the delivery and setup went great. It's a standby one and it does an exercise once a month and it seems really sealed up. It's a nice unit. It's not that loud, too.

The installation and sales were perfect. I love those ladies at Ready Power. They run on top of it. They broke a connection on the main hot water heater. They brought me a new hot water heater and put it in. The generator is all set up. But we had some problems with it. It took about two visits before they finally get it straightened out. They got it straight last week and we had one power outage and it kicked on and ran. But for the next two power outages, it never ran again, and couldn't crank it. But they got it all straight. They stayed there until it worked right. It just took a while. I bought the KOHLER because we live on a farm ranch, and every time I had a KOHLER range, it was always good.
The generator is additional power supply. I'm too old to haul generators around anymore. We live in Louisiana and in the hurricane belt. The last hurricane we had, we lost power for two weeks. We lived in our RV and on generators for two weeks. I bought this KOHLER generator that will run my whole house and my pump house. We have well water and it's 26 kW. I run everything. So, we're good.

I've got a Kohler engine on a lawn mower that we've had and they're just very reliable. I purchased a generator as well. It’s for my parents' house and they're both on oxygen. They had to have something just in case their power went out. I couldn't get anybody around here to sell me. I went through Lowe's and got it.
But I did everything myself regarding the installation because I'm a contractor. I did all the gas. I had my electricians put the electrical to it. However, I had to get an actual Kohler dealer to come out here to start it up where it wouldn't void my warranty and where I'd have the full warranty on. And they charged $1,100 to start it up, just to come out here, hook a lap up to it, and turn it on. They did nothing other than turn the unit on for me. If I had been able to start it up myself, I would have. But I didn't want to void any warranty. I wanted to make sure everything was right.
I've told several people, if I was getting a generator, a KOHLER is the one that I would go with. That's what I would get.

I had a generator previously and when that one died, the guy who maintained it recommended and installed the KOHLER. Everything went well. KOHLER was comparable to everybody else when I priced everything, and this is quieter than my last one. It cycles every Monday and it's cycled so far since this was installed.

I like KOHLER because they’re American-made. The parts are American-made. They’re made in Wisconsin. And if I need parts, I can get parts because they’re all made right there. It’s also a cast-iron engine versus an aluminum head engine. So, it’s gonna last.
I live in Southwest Florida, and we get hurricanes. So, if power goes out, I want power. But I haven’t experienced it since I put it in. But last year, we were out for three days. So, I bought a 26,000, and it should be able to run my entire house for five to seven days. The installation process could have been a little bit better and a little bit more timely. They had their permits screwed up. Originally, it was supposed to be on one size stand, then they got back to me, and they got to do it on a different size stand. There’s just a lot of goopy stuff, and coming back and redoing some of the electrical work for the panels.

We live in the country, so we needed a bigger generator than what we had. My neighbor researched it and he and I got the same 26 kW whole home generator. When we have power outages, it'll be nice that it'll automatically kick on. We don't have to worry about getting gas and bringing out the generators and extension cords. We found a company that does KOHLER and they also said it was a good product. With Generac, I couldn't get somebody to come out to install the power. I would tell people to definitely go with a KOHLER.

The KOHLER generator has been good. I got in touch with them through an electrician and I just got it for weather backup. I hadn't had to use it yet. It only turns on on a weekly basis and I can hear when that happens. So far, I'm happy with the product. The price is a good and it's worth it.

I had a whole home generator before and it saved our bacon a few times, so I decided to put one in a new home I was building. The fellow that came sold me the idea that KOHLER was better than Generac and it had a better warranty, so I switched to KOHLER.
The same fellow handled the installation, and they came across an issue where they stuck regulator valve in it, and it wouldn’t start, so they spent two hours on tech support. But they figured it out and they got it started, so it’s fine.
One thing I’m not crazy about is it doesn’t have indicator lights on it, so I have no way of knowing when it’s time for service, time for tune-up, when it’s not working, and when everything is fine. I have to check it periodically. So, it’s never been used, never had to kick in and cover a period of time.

I had the option between KOHLER and another brand. I did my research and found that KOHLER has newer technology and has better longevity. Installing it just took longer than normal. They told me it would be six to nine months and it took a year.
My generator does a self-test for 25 minutes every week. I couldn’t put it up where I wanted to because the city code wouldn’t allow it to be within five feet of the house, so I put it up near the fence 15 feet from the house. It’s loud, but it’s a motor running. It’s not that loud.

I have two generators. The larger one is going on six years. The smaller one is for my horse barn. It’s a Model R at 30KW and was installed at the beginning of September. I tell people that have horses about Kohler and they would go, "I didn't think about that."
With Kohler, it’s been exactly what I expected. The generators have a timer and they run when they need to run. They’re reliable and take care of themselves. The big one, since it's water-cooled, you can barely tell it's on. You really have to be up next to it and there’s a huge difference with the smaller one. Since it's air-cooled, it's noisier and you can tell it's on. I wouldn't necessarily know that though if I didn't have the other one. It's about the same as a fairly-sized lawn tractor. I had one lawn tractor that had a Kohler engine that was about a 16-horsepower, and that was about the same decibel level as the little one. My neighbor also got from Kohler the same time I got my second one.
The big one, I didn't do any shopping, because I knew it's what I wanted. For the small one, because I had one already, I did the shopping. Here in Florida, we have our codes, so installation was a little bit more complicated. But the actual cost of the equipment was expensive but extremely competitive. There was no big difference with others, even in having it shipped to me.

I’m an electrical contractor. I install a ton of generators. The reason I purchased a KOHLER was just because it was more available than the Generac. And in this area, there’s a lot more support for KOHLER than Generac. I have had quite a bit of issues with Generac in finding somebody qualified to work on them, but they are a little easier to hook up. They’re a little more electrician-friendly as far as termination points, bringing the conduit into the generator. As far as durability, I can’t tell any difference. And I don’t sell generators because I don’t want to deal with getting all the stuff to be able to sell them. So, anybody who asks me about them, I just tell them, “Well, you buy, I put it in. You make the decision.” But the only two choices I usually tell them are Generac and KOHLER. They’re both equal in my opinion.

There are three reasons I chose KOHLER. One, I didn’t want Generac because KOHLER was a better unit. Number two, the contractor Carillo Construction was a great company to work with. And three, the 10-year warranty offered by KOHLER, sealed the deal for me. Another thing is the financing was through Synchrony Bank, and they had 0% interest, which was excellent for me. It wasn’t cheap, but if we lose power around here, we have a standalone generator, and I’m quite impressed with the KOHLER products. Our KOHLER is installed, hooked up to the gas, and it’s a very good unit. I’m very happy with it. I’m just waiting to hear from KOHLER about the 10-year warranty.

Took forever to get the cold weather kit. Oil probe for oil heat had damaged threads. KOHLER customer support SUCKS. The idiot engineer who had the idea for the remote oil drain had a good idea. However, the port is so small oil takes hours to drain. Get your engineers OUT from their desk and OUT in the field. I guarantee they’ll learn something!

We're in South Texas in the hurricane area, and we wanted a generator to make sure our lights stayed on. We have a big house and need an industrial-size generator. Looking at the reviews for big generators, KOHLER was favorable. We had it installed 10 days ago and it tests itself every two weeks. It was very expensive though.

My sister got her Kohler generator a year ago. It's been very reliable. My brother-in-law didn't even know they lost power because the generator was so efficient. She recommended it to me and we are recommending it to other friends as well. We got a quote from Generac too, and Kohler was a little more expensive but what sold us was everything is made in the USA. We had it installed on September 8th, and everything went very smoothly. It was as it was described to us. Everyone was very courteous and understanding of our property in terms of where we wanted the generator put in. They were very friendly too.

The installer recommended Kohler and they just finished installing it the day before yesterday. It took a long time, but that wasn't anybody's fault. Here in Georgia, I had to have a meter swapped out. That was Atlantic Gas Light. That was something that had to be done and Georgia Power had to approve the installation. There were a lot of delays, but none of the delays, as far as I could tell, were caused by anybody that I was on purpose doing business with. I had to just to get a code for them to install the Kohler generator system and that was pretty easy.

This is my second Kohler generator, this one was bought because of my excellent experience with the first. One reason I bought your brand was knowing the experience you have with industrial motors. Randazzo did the install and finished it in one day. Consumers came out and installed a bigger meter to accommodate the additional gas requirement. The only real hiccup was that the wires on the ethernet cable were backwards so I couldn't connect to the Kohler server for a while. All good now. We've only lost power twice since it was installed. Both times it fired up within 10 seconds. Both outages lasted for less than 10 minutes. It's spent more time exercising than restoring power so far. We don't hear it in the house. It's installed behind the garage. I only know when it does the weekly checks because I get emails telling me it started/stopped. I did a ton of research on generators before deciding on Kohler. So far, the Kohler does exactly what I chose it for.

As a licensed electrician, I can say that these units are professionally designed and built to higher standards than others. KOHLER's tech support is on point and will answer just about any question you throw at them. I can always count on my Kohler RCA20 to power my home as long as the proper maintenance schedule is followed.

It appears that the space directly below the control panel, where the main wiring harness connections reside, is intended to be rodent proof...It is not. The Kohler telephone service representative agreed that the area is intended to be rodent proof but stated "You know rodents. They find a way". The $549 wiring harness is not covered under warranty. I would recommend adding additional sealant to keep rodents out of this critical area and an annual dose of mouse poison. Otherwise, for 4 1/2 years, other than replacing a battery, the generator performed as expected.

Kohler marine generators are the worst generators ever made. Mine has 230 hours on it and has had a catastrophic failure in the generator head. I have been told that the warranty does not cover it even though it is still within the warranty time because I did not have a post installation inspection by a a Kohler representative. The nearest Kohler representative to me is over 1000 miles away. I had mine installed by a certified marine mechanic and it operated fine for 230 hours. They first told me I had to replace the control board for $4000 then the starter for another $2000 after paying $20,000 for this stupid generator. It is now a boat anchor. Do not buy Kohler generators. They have the worst generators and the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in any product I have ever bought. Not built to last.

We had a Kohler 12kw installed 5 years ago and it was reliable until just now. It failed to start during our last power outage and investigation has determined that the engine seized. There was no oil in the engine. I check it regularly and it had been fine. It was professionally serviced on a regular basis. The technician who came to the house could not determine what failed but said these units, in particular, were prone to short lives. Now I have to buy a new generator. Kohler won’t honor the warranty because I was months past the 5 years. Pretty crappy.

I purchased a Kohler generator after my local dealer recommended it. While initially drawn by its affordability compared to the water-cooled alternatives, priced at $4,000, I've had some eye-opening experiences. We're currently on our second Kohler generator. The first one malfunctioned just after the warranty period, with something frying internally. Unfortunately, we had not used it much, but the malfunction led to the entire device needing a replacement because of one part. The dealer, who has done a lot of work for me, including a solar system installation, gave me a bit of a discount on the replacement generator, but Kohler themselves provided no compensation.
The generator is automatic, serving as a backup to our solar system. It usually runs when there's no sun shining for electricity and handles outages by running for 24-36 hours to bridge gaps. However, it works quite differently based on seasonal variations. It's more active during the winter. I was advised to try a more expensive water-cooled generator, but for now, I've given Kohler another chance. If this one fails, I might not go with Kohler again due to my previous experiences.

My good friend, Ben, is one of KOHLER's distributors. He shared some insights into the benefits of KOHLER compared to other brands, and ultimately, I chose them.

The delivery and setup process for the generator was straightforward. Being a plumber by trade, I took care of the gas line and also collaborated with Ben, who is an electrician. I dug the trench, laid the conduits, poured the concrete pad, and handled the gas line, while Ben took care of the electrical wiring. This wasn't a typical installation, given my extensive involvement in rebuilding my house after it was destroyed by a wildfire. However, this collaboration gave me confidence in the installation.

I chose a KOHLER Generator based on a recommendation from our solar installer, who regarded it as the best fit for our system. Having had it for about a year, we primarily use it to supplement our solar panels during periods of decreased sunlight. Though it hasn't been used extensively, mainly due to our cabin's remote location, I believe it's operating effectively.
The generator, to my awareness, performs well, but I'm not entirely sure about its self-check features since it's not running most of the time. Most interactions with KOHLER were managed by our installer, but I've encountered no difficulties, and the generator functions excellently.
In terms of rating, I would give KOHLER Generators 5 stars for product quality, although I'd rate the price at a 4, considering the overall expenditure. Overall, despite not engaging directly with KOHLER, the generator has served us well, and I have no complaints.

I got a KOHLER generator after speaking with a representative at Generators Direct. They advised me that KOHLER offered a better motor compared to other brands, which influenced my decision. I've had my KOHLER generator for almost a year now, using it frequently since I live off the grid. So far, it has accumulated around 500 hours of use.
Functionally, it has been running quite well; however, I started to notice a propane smell near the carburetor area each time I serviced it, which I suspect correlates with the propane level going down. I'm not entirely sure if this is normal. Despite this, the overall performance has been satisfactory.
Although I dealt with Generators Direct for the purchase, where the customer service was impressive, I did not interact directly with KOHLER's customer service. I took on the task of installing it myself, and so far, it's proven to be fantastic. In terms of overall satisfaction with the product, I'm happy to rate my experience a 5.

Living completely off the grid, a reliable generator is essential for us, especially during the winter months with limited sunlight. The Kohler Generator backs up our entire home by recharging the batteries, ensuring we have power even when the days are short and lacking sunlight.
We've been using the Kohler generator for about three years now, and aside from one minor issue where a part needed replacement, it's been fantastic. That part was swiftly handled and has been running perfectly since. In fact, it has about 220 to 230 hours of use, but whenever we need it, it performs excellently, as it does not run continuously.

Living on a ranch where getting power lines installed by PG&E would have been far too costly, I needed a reliable and main source of electricity. My system comprises a KOHLER generator integrated with solar panels, sixteen large backup batteries, and propane. The generator plays a crucial role as my main power source. Initially, my experience with KOHLER was a mix of good and bad. I encountered several issues with different machines — one of which suffered from loose bolts, another had oil leaks. Despite multiple attempts and some frustration, KOHLER eventually replaced all faulty units. Although dealing with these issues was time-consuming, KOHLER did make it right in the end.
While I find the actual quality of KOHLER generators commendable, the customer service leaves much to be desired. There seem to be no local representatives in Northern California, as my service inquiries were supposedly handled from LA, some distance away. Much of my on-ground troubleshooting and support came from Martin, my electrician, rather than direct KOHLER assistance. If asked, I would tell friends and family that KOHLER makes a good machine, though be prepared for potential challenges in customer service. Despite the initial troubles, I trust the KOHLER brand enough to stick with their generators instead of considering alternatives. Lastly, price-wise, I felt satisfied with the value they provided for the investment.

We ended up purchasing a new KOHLER generator from a local electrical company that retails them. We use the generator as a backup power source at a cabin located on a mountainside. Despite having solar panels for charging batteries, the KOHLER generator remains essential year-round. This particular unit connects to a computer allowing us, and Norb’s son who resides in Longmont, Colorado, to remotely monitor its performance. We do onsite checks every couple of weeks to verify everything is operational, and it’s consistently reliable without any malfunction codes reported. I would rate our experience with KOHLER as quite favorable, both in terms of the overall product performance and customer service, giving it a solid 4 out of 5.

Kohler has terrible customer service. We have been installing their generators for almost 10 years and we have noticed the decline in quality. One of their liquid cooled generators we have installed have had issues from the start and Kohler is refusing to assist us because “we aren’t a dealer”. Therefore we cannot help our customers. We will no longer install them and direct our customers elsewhere.

Our Kohler generator that we have is not working and we've been waiting for two months to hear back from them whether or not they're going to replace the generator under warranty. We have an off-grid generator should be for 18 months and 1,000 hours and it only has 300 hours on it and the generator quit running. We had a technician come out and he said that the generator has lost compression on one cylinder.
So we've been waiting for two months to see if Kohler is going to replace the generator for us, which they obviously should. It's well under warranty. They initially told me that they couldn't replace it because, when I was changing the oil in the generator, I was not logging my oil changes into the computer. I sent them pictures of my logbook that I was writing down the oil changes every 100 hours and we're waiting to see if they accept that or not.
The salespeople have been fine. I bought the generator from a Kohler dealer and they've been trying to do everything that they can possibly do to get Kohler to give them the okay. They've been great. I have no complaints about the Kohler salespeople at all.
Kohler has not held up their end of the deal as far as the warranty goes. If Kohler is going to give a warranty, they should abide by the warranty that they give, which they haven't even come close to doing that for me. I wouldn't recommend them. I would tell anyone the problems that I've had, that Kohler is not backing their warranty on the machine.

I researched it, and Kohler was almost equal to Generac in all the important categories. When I saw that Airco carried Kohler, I decided to have them install the generator.
I’m older now, and I don’t want to bother my son every time the power goes out. The electricity has gone off several times during storms, and the generator comes right on. It’s wonderful. It performs beautifully.

We bought a house about seven years ago off-grid with solar panels and batteries. It had a smaller KOHLER generator and when it got worn out and needed to be replaced, I looked at Generac. The neighbor had one and hated it. He was getting rid of it and was going to a KOHLER, so I went to KOHLER as well.
The one I got had about 7,000 hours on a machine so something’s gonna break at some point. I had a part go out and took a couple of weeks out. It allowed us to upgrade to a little bit bigger one to handle my central air. My central air is 220 which takes quite a bit of juice to run. And the generator won’t come on if I turn it on in the middle of the day, but it may come on later in the evening. Also, I had to buy another one because I can’t be without a generator in the wintertime. I fixed the one that was broken and have it as a backup.
I’m very satisfied with what I got. They’re pretty low maintenance and easy to hook up. The generator is set up to come on whenever it needs it especially in the wintertime when we’re below zero with no sun. It starts up and run, and it charges the batteries and powers the house. So, it’s not an emergency backup for us but a part of my whole system. In the summertime, if I’m not using my central air, it won’t run for several days. But if we do, and we have to use power at night, it just comes on automatically. We keep our air conditioner at 72 ‘cause that’s comfortable for us.
We have some cold weather issues this winter with it. KOHLER sent out a heater for free. I have an app on my phone so I can watch my generator on it. They’ll watch it too to see what the temperatures are outside. We had about 20 something below 0, with heavy winds that pushed it close to 40 below 0. A little bit of issue was starting, but once we put a new heater on, it warmed up and the generator ran fine even at those temperatures.
Some people I know already use KOHLER. My parents are on the other side of the state. They’re looking at a little backup generator cause they don’t need a lot to run the whole house. They’re talking about Generac but I told them that you can buy those everywhere because you have to buy them everywhere. They’re big and heavy, and not as durable as what one would think. They haven’t got anything yet but I recommended KOHLER.

I'm an installer. I don't own a Kohler. But one of the best benefits of Kohler is that the generators come out of the factory with a two-wire start. I work with systems that usually interconnect with generators and they are automated by other various types of equipment. And out of the standby generators, Kohler is the only one that comes out of the box with the type of logic to be able to interconnect with things how I use them.

I live off the grid so I needed a generator to power my house that already has a solar system in place. I spoke with a person at a dealership and Kohler was recommended to me. The power comes on, and I have not had any issues. However, I am always going to complain about the price. Also, I have called a couple of times and I still have not seen my copy of my warranty. Still, overall, it has been a positive experience.

We get a lot of power failures where I live, so I looked for generators and KOHLER had the model and type I wanted. I’m happy with the actual unit, but unhappy with the company I bought it from. I purchased it through a dealer, and had it installed by a contractor who did all the work in my house. I've been trying to get in touch with the dealer, and they haven’t gotten back to me. I'm disappointed that I can't get ahold of anybody. I'd like to have a service person who will make sure it's running properly and set it up on my phone.

We got our generator from KOHLER Generators installed. It runs and everything’s good. It’s a great product. The customer service was okay, but the company that KOHLER had me use for the installation should have been a lot better about responding to phone calls, emails, and return calls. It took a long time to reach the service team. I’ve had to call multiple times to get a hold of someone, and that was irritating. Apart from that, I’m very satisfied with the product.

The salesperson that was helping me was great. Now, we’re getting some technical service from them. And that’s a little challenging.
I set it up myself, and it ain't hard. The problem was getting it registered so you can use it automatically. But everything has been taken care of.
Well, getting it registered was not the easiest thing to do. The last time was more challenging than the other two. But I understand there's some kind of sale or somebody's buying them and then transitioning to a point.

Kohler engines have been dependable so I bought a Kohler generator and ATS from AP electric. The ATS came with the top corner of the metal case compressed (popped the rivets). Several screws were missing from the generator and ATS. I found the ATS does not come with a 125 volt supply for the engine heater (it must be wired from a house circuit). When I called Kohler to inquire the rep was rude and nasty. Said she couldn’t tell me if the ATS had a 125 supply because they would be sued. AP electric was helpful and courteous. Considering the damage and missing screws/pins/nuts, rude customer relations and difficulty getting the code to unlock the generator (another story) it was a poor experience. They only want to work through official installers/dealers (I had a licensed experienced electrician do the hook up). Maybe someone else wants your business more.

We were going into winter and we needed the generator as a backup for cold nights. I was trying to purchase a Generac generator from a place in Wisconsin, and they discontinued it or were having trouble getting the parts, so the guy recommended a KOHLER. It was the same kind of model, just 14 kilowatts instead of 15, but he said it should be more efficient. So we went ahead and looked at that. The cost wasn't too bad, either.

We had a KOHLER generator at the house that we purchased. It blew up and we had to replace it with the same make and model number because it had to fit right on the pad. The generators never really communicated correctly with our solar system, which makes it really difficult. It was also difficult dealing with Kohler’s warranty issues. They only gave us an 18-month warranty on the new generator, which I personally don't think is enough. We've had to replace several parts on the generator because they're plastic, like a little piece that makes the generator rev half faster and higher.
Customer service is a joke. When we had our other generator before it blew up and we had to get a new one, we needed a specific part for our generator. I called them because the people who we had that generator serviced from didn't have the part, and we needed it right away because we are completely on solar. If our generator goes down, it's bad news. At that point as well, that generator was out of warranty. I called Kohler to ask them, "What part is this? It’s like a little fitting and I'm gonna try to source it somewhere else." They were like, "You have to call a dealer." I said, "I need to know what part it is so I can tell the dealer what I need." They wouldn't even tell me what the part was called so I could get it from the appropriate person.
They were so incredibly rude. If I didn't need to have the same generator for this specific system, I would have gone with somebody else. My dad has a Generac and they've had amazing service. Kohler’s customer service is poor.

I bought the Kohler generator in Michigan and installed it late summer, early fall at a cabin in New York. I went back up there this spring and reinstalled the battery, and it took right off. Everything was good. My only complaint is when I was trying to get it installed, I had to get a code from them by calling or going online, which I couldn’t do because I was off-grid. I ended up going somewhere on an hour-and-a-half trip to get a signal so I could call them. That’s dumb. I would have registered it when I bought it and had the code all ready to go. Nowhere did it say anything about having to get a code. Other than that, the generator runs great and I’m happy with it.

Kohler has been around forever, so it’s established, it’s more American parts and American made than Generac, and there was a Kohler here before. I bought mine from a solar company, and they hired a private electrical contractor to come and install it. It tests itself every so often. It comes on and runs, so it's doing what it's supposed to. I had some difficulty with the directions to operate it, so I called for tech assistance and she was helpful. She taught me how to scroll through on the little touch button pad and reset it. The price was okay. Free would’ve been great but that’s not gonna happen. Only thing is it’s hard to find comparable oil filter numbers to buy the proper oil filter for it and there's no one that sells Kohler oil filters.

I was told by the installer, the Silver Guru, that KOHLER had the proper protocol. The line of generators that they have connected easily to the solar system. That was the primary reason I went with them. I have a standalone system. It's set up to automatically kick on when there's an inadequate battery supply. When it gets somewhere below 24 volts, it automatically kicks on and runs the cycle to charge the batteries. I got a maintenance kit the other day from a third-party vendor. I'm gonna do that in the next week because the maintenance is due.
I had an issue with the generator initially when it was set up. There was debris in the propane line. There was nothing bad about the generator itself. It was just the fuel filter was clogged so the generator was not getting appropriate fuel. After that was fixed, I've had no issues with it. The generator is loud, but it's not excessively loud. I read that there can be some sort of muffler that can be installed on some generators that will help to dampen the noise. I contacted KOHLER and asked them about a particular muffler that I found that some people are using for that KOHLER generator. Customer support was quite prompt. A few days later, they sent me a note and said that they didn’t recommend any modifications because it would nullify the warranty.

I replaced the KOHLER that I had. The company that sells KOHLER came out in just a couple weeks at the most, and it was a good installation. I had a problem with the generator though, so I'm waiting to see if they're going to cover it. Other than that, KOHLER is rated good for off-grid. I don't have electricity. I have batteries. And when batteries are low, the generator will come on.

My electrician and builder brought in my generator. They are the ones who decided to get from Kohler Generators. I bought it because I didn't enjoy it when the power went out. I lived in New Hampshire for 17 years, and everything in the house went down, including the well.
I'm older now. So when I was doing a renovation, I just decided that I was gonna get a generator to also make my future and make it a little easier. The generator has been excellent so far.

It was either KOHLER or Generac. I also had a Kohler previously and it did really well. I like their battery charger system and the remote control system because I use the generator offline. Right now, it's a backup to a different generator. I use it power up remote water wells. I've had it for over a year. I've barely started using it, but it runs beautifully. It has easy maintenance and I like it.

We got a backup generator for solar and it works fine. But I'd like some alerts on the inverter, the box, or anything that's hanging on the wall for a pending problem. There was a problem recently. It had nothing to do with the generator per se. But the gas delivery system got baffled. It was the absence of the propane. If you don't have fuel, you're not gonna have the generator running. My neighbor came over, looked, opened the top, and said there was very little gas there. Once we figured out what it was, we called and someone came over and did a fill-up. It was really not a problem.
But if there was some alert that would say the pressure in the tank reads such and such, that would tell me to get on the phone with the delivery system. If there was a light on the inverter or some place on the panel, that would save the anxiety that I went through. That would be very beneficial.

They need to respond quicker when someone's having a problem. I bought my Kohler four years ago, had nothing but problems with it and it took two years before they replaced it. I went a whole winter without a generator because they kept trying to fix it and couldn't. But since it's been changed out, we haven't had any problems.

I had another brand of generator that failed on me, so I decided to switch brands. I bought a KOHLER generator as a backup for my house. I’ve had it for about two years and have been very satisfied with it. I’m pretty dependent on the generator because I live off-grid and often need to charge my home batteries when I don’t get enough sunlight via solar. It works as I need it to whenever I have to use it. The generator doesn’t check itself automatically, so I have to turn it on to make sure it’s working.

My generator cut off and was not operating for a week or so. Deep snow. We had a huge blizzard in the winter of '23. Generator was placed in an area that had no cover--it was not even a consideration when placing it. I now place a large plywood board at a 45-degree angle on each side of the generator that has the air vents. It keeps off the snow and now it works fine.

I purchased a Kohler generator with a Wireless Kit to support your app. The wireless kit continuously disconnects. It does not work. Kohler has developed a new cellular connection to support the app, but want $325.00 for it. I don't think I should pay for your failed product and be charged for a replacement product. What kind of business are you people running?

I don't know if the issue was with the product or with the person that installed it.
They fixed it and it ran, but it ran really rough. I had to pay somebody $500 to come out and service it. It runs good now. It isn’t as good as my other generator. I had that thing for years and never had a problem.

I had spoken to electricians that install these and asked them about what brand they like. They mentioned that they would not advise buying a Generac and they all mentioned the KOHLER, and that's what I did. The first year, the unit had some difficulty starting, but the licensed dealer that installed it was prompt to come out and take care of it. It ended up having an arbiter problem and they replaced the whole unit. It's been at least 18 months that it has not had any issues whatsoever. I'm happy.

Our Kohler home generator was not that expensive. It was well within our budget and it’s worked like a charm. It’s a backup to solar which is programmed to exercise itself once a week. If I’m outside, I can hear it. Bu if I’m in the house, I don’t even know it’s on.
There was a company that comes out to the country where we live and does off-grid advising. They were the ones that recommended Kohler to me. They’d had good success with it that’s why we bought it. I’ve already recommended this generator to about five friends who have either looked into buying or have already bought.

I bought two generators from KOHLER Generators. One of them was fine, but I could have burned the other one real easy because when they put it together at the factory the adapter fitting screws were all finger tight, and when I went to change the oil on it, I only had about 16 hours, but I am supposed to change them once a year. I had a big old puddle of oil. It was leaking out of that. It never got tightened up at the factory.
I didn’t tell anybody about it because it was made clear to me by somebody that if I use them in an off-grid situation, I get no warranty. I just fixed the problem and moved on. Other than that, everything was great.
Having generators has been really beneficial when the time comes because I’m off-grid, so if I don’t have sun for a few days, the generator needs to run. I’ve got two separate houses. The main house has an ADU, and it’s dwelling in it. I need to have a backup generator on both of them.
I’ve got 10 battery cells, and one of them was defective. That one battery gave a false reading and they were low, but my generator ran more than it should have this last winter. Even in the summertime when I get plenty of sun, it still runs once a week for 10 minutes.

We had an issue on the motor of the generator. The little discs burnt out so that was a little disappointment. But it’s our second KOHLER generator and we were taken care of. We had warranty but outside of that, it’s helped us. When we don’t have enough sun, it powers up so it can generate charge to our batteries.
That incident was the first time it ever happened and we still don’t know why. But other than that, the generators are very reliable and I wouldn’t buy anything else.

I stood my ground on payment terms and the team returned promptly to complete the job. The generator's performance has been stellar. Six months in, a power outage hit our community, home to 54 households around a lake. While others were left in the dark, my KOHLER roared to life just three seconds after the power cut, providing seamless electricity for 14 hours. All vital electronics and even my PCs continued running without a glitch, though minor clocks needed a quick reset.
KOHLER's reputation among my peers is notable, especially considering issues like lack of a simple test start button, common in our neighbor's Generac model. Nevertheless, I'm planning on enhancing mine with a propane conversion for gas supply security. The American-made factor holds a bigger appeal for me, not just for generators but across products like my trusty car lift and air compressor. While KOHLER generators might be marginally pricier than some brands, their reliability leaves me unbothered. We had just bought a new home and wanted to put in a generator. And so, we bought a KOHLER generator from someone we know who is a KOHLER dealer because we’ve always heard him say that they’re the best, and much better than Generac. He does a lot of servicing on generators, and he said he gets a lot more calls for breakdowns on Generac than he does on KOHLER.
And I see Generac commercials constantly. They’re all over television. But we owned a golf course for many years, and my husband had other KOHLER equipment. So, he was kind of a fan of KOHLER anyway. And then knowing other people who had Generac generators, and they had issues with them.
So, when the power goes out, the generator comes on quickly enough that I don’t even have to reset the Wi-Fi modem. And it is right next to our home. So, if you’re standing outside, you’re gonna hear it louder. So, you can hear it when it’s running.
And I think most people have their generators set to come on once a week and run for a little while. But we had him set ours to come on once every two weeks, and it runs for 15 minutes.
The representative who helped me is a super dealer, but I think KOHLER has not been overly kind to him for whatever reason. I’m not sure I understand all the issues, but he’s had issues with the KOHLER company. But by far, he recommends KOHLER over Generac. So, he’s probably the best spokesman they have for KOHLER. And he could be sitting in a great restaurant, but if he gets a call from a customer, he answers it. But KOHLER doesn’t treat him very well.
And I think the price could be less. KOHLER is expensive more so than other brands. And the representative said that he quit doing business with other KOHLER products, because it became very expensive. And sometimes the parts are not available and all that sort of thing, like the engines on some KOHLER products. So, it’s a bit more expensive, but we’re satisfied with what we paid.

I needed a generator as a backup power source for my cabin in Prescott, Arizona, especially given the power outages we experience, primarily during colder months. I looked at a couple of them and Kohler was running a special at that time.
I've been using the Kohler generator with an automatic transfer switch to charge solar batteries, approximating a usage of about half an hour when the batteries go low. While the idea was for it to serve as a reliable backup, issues arose. The generator unfortunately encounters shutdowns at the most inopportune times due to a low voltage shutoff issue, questioning its reliability.
Support has been quite a challenge. The only certified repair representative listed for Prescott didn't respond to my calls, pushing me toward someone based in Flagstaff, which is over two hours away. Although I haven't reached out to them yet due to concerns over potential expenses, it’s disappointing.
Overall, the generator’s faults have been frustrating, especially considering it's new. If I were to relay my experience with Kohler Generators to a friend or neighbor, I’d advise caution. The product itself shows potential but lacking accessible support poses a critical issue.

The company that I hired to do the solar system recommended the KOHLER unit. It's a backup generator for an upgraded solar system. We use the generator to charge the solar batteries. We had to send a couple of technicians to set it up. It has worked for us three or four times.

Well, initially I was pleased. Unit was installed January 2025 and operated as expected for 2 whole months. I began smelling propane near the generator not the propane tanks. My concern was dismissed by all who had part in the installation and set up. I was told by all not to worry. It was most likely the propane tanks "puffing". Two days later I smelled it again and reached out to all the contractors. I was told the same thing. "Don't overthink it", "It's probably the tanks puffing". I explained the odor was coming from the generator. Since the propane tanks were only temporarily installed in place to allow for the generator to be quickly installed and operating the propane company was scheduled to come back in 3-4 weeks. I was not comfortable with that so they arranged an appoinment later that week. What do you think they found when they arrived??? A propane leak in the generator.
The Local Kohler dealer then came and confirmed the leak stating he believed it was the fuel regulator valve. Well that was 3 weeks ago. The unit has been out of commission since then while parts were ordered and the contractors could figure out a time to all be present which is not for over another week. I reached out to the Kohler Corporation who though they did respond to my email promptly within 24 hours they said since the unit is under warranty my request for a NEW unit was not an option at this time. I purchased this brand due to reliability and reputation as my husband and I are both now on disability. I no longer have peace of mind or faith in my unit since it has developed an issue so early on. Depending on how things turn out I may be able to add a more positive review but at this time I have serious doubts.

I have previously had a positive experience with Kohler Generators. I am a returning customer, and my decision to go with Kohler again was based on their proven reliability and longevity.
Unfortunately, my latest generator developed a major mechanical issue, which was disappointing. Even though it was the exact same model as before, it didn't seem to be constructed as well. Kohler did assist by having one of their authorized resellers address the problem, but I found the process lengthy and cumbersome. Overall, this experience has not met my expectations based on previous interactions with their products.
I appreciate the resolution but would have preferred not to encounter such an issue with a generator brand I've trusted before. If someone asked about my experience, considering the hassle this time, I would rate it a 3 out of 5.

After inheriting my grandfather's house, I found myself responsible for a Kohler home generator he had installed. This generator proved invaluable during a couple of recent storms. Initially, we dealt with some warranty work when it was first installed, but following that, it has functioned perfectly without issues.
I would confidently recommend others to consider it, though it would benefit from being a bit quieter since its proximity, being just a few feet from the house, lets us hear it quite clearly. Regarding the installation, while most aspects were handled well, I did notice they left the electrical entry point unsealed, which I had to address with spray foam.
Though I didn't purchase or pay for the installation, I can rate the customer service and quality as top-notch, giving it a high score for those aspects. Overall, my experience with Kohler generators has been positive, and I'd recommend them to others exploring similar options.

A severe storm left us without power for five days. Being in an all-electric home, it was a challenging time as we lost all of our refrigerated food and were without water. Initially, a different brand was on my list, but I couldn't find one. Kohler was next, and after researching, they became my choice. It's been a fantastic decision because, in the four-plus years since installing it, the generator has run without a hitch.
The generator sits about ten feet from my house. If there's an outage longer than ten seconds, it switches on automatically and powers the entire household seamlessly. It's not overly loud—like a vehicle running outside—it won't disrupt sleep unless you’re specifically listening for it. In terms of cost, it was substantial. However, the peace of mind from having uninterrupted water and electricity is worth every penny. Also, I have an authorized service provider known as PWC. They handle maintenance and they've been amazing.

In over 45 years of commercial relationships I never experience a worse company than Kohler. Our local dealer cannot get a human to answer a phone or give a consistent answer. Our machine had an electronic issue upon we deliver. WE PAID to overnight and replace the part because of Kohler's delays. After 3 months the generator went down again. It has been 14 months of them refusing to ship the parts. They insisted that the tech remove an assembly and ship it back before they'd warranty it. He did. They said, "why did you send this back?" He shared their instructions w them. Now still waiting endlessly for the parts to get a brand new $7500 generator running. We've spent over $7000 trying to get it resolved. NEVER EVER BUY KOHLER ...EVER!

Updated on 05/20/2025: I originally wrote a review in April before I knew the reason for the second major failure. In just over 2 years the generator has had two significant failures in the only two times it was called on. It was installed in November 2022, August 2024 the motherboard blew. In April 2025 the fuel regulator failed. Those were the only real power failures we have had since the install. So two needs, two failures. The quality of this product is obviously below basic needs or that of the competition.
As mentioned in the first review, generators are there to provide peace of mind and reliability in the case of emergency and that is not Kohler. Buy from any other manufacturer. Due to multiple issues with the unit I spent $1600 in propane for 11 days of running in April. STAY AWAY. I did voice my concerns to Kohler per their response to my original review and their new response was kind of "it happens." Very ambivalent to the situation. At least I have found a competent service agent because the first one caused additional issues. I will continue to review as more failures happen as there is no doubt not the last.
Original Review: Stay away at all costs. Bought Kohler instead of Generac. Motherboard failed in less than 18 months. The two times we have needed it it's failed and we lost everything. Canada service reps are limited and support is horrible. The maximum it has successfully run is 36 hours and failed again. A generator is for when you need it. And it can not be trusted. Stay away. Worst significant purchase we have ever made. Buy Generac. Better service. Better dealers. More available technicians. Can't say enough to avoid them.

I originally purchased this generator to support my 48v off-grid AGM battery bank and it worked well! As my AGM battery bank was end of life, I converted to BigBattery CONDOR-3 LiFePO4 Batteries. The 48v with ripple output from the 6VSG appears to confuse the battery BMS causing it to cycle Charge/Not-Charge modes making the 6VSG generator speed-up and slow-down as the power draw turns on and off. The Kohler technician and I tried various settings and currently have it set to 50% power output at 54v (anything higher causes generator to speed up and error out with an overspeed error). Even with these settings the unit oscillates charge modes and does not run efficiently. I'm very disappointed as I can disconnect the batteries while generator is running and supporting load to the house inverter and with batteries disconnected, the unit purrs like a kitten. I will need to replace with a 220v 12RES or similar to make it work well.

I purchased a Kohler 14RCA Generator in the fall of 2024. It worked great for months. Then in February, 2025 we had a code show up on the controller that said AC Sensor Loss. We are off grid users. At the time we only had 98 hours of use on the unit so I assumed that since it was still under warranty (1000 hours) I should call the service company that installed it to come and take a look.
When they arrived the technician said the rings were dirty and cleaned them. I assume that cleared the error code. I then received a bill from them for the service call. I questioned Kohler as to why this visit wasn't under warranty. The error code was the reason I called and since it was relatively new I assumed it should be under warranty. I complained to both the service company and Kohler directly and was told the Area Service Mgr would investigate. The follow up was that they considered it a maintenance call which is not included in the warranty. I didn't place a maintenance call, I placed an error code call. The Area Service Mgr won't even speak directly to me, the customer, to discuss details. I requested to speak with him and he hides behind his staff and supposedly doesn't speak with customers. What kind of management is that?
After spending over $4,000 on this new generator and only having minimal use on it, my concern of an error code in order to make sure all was ok, in my opinion, warranted a call to the service company and yet they still want to charge me $287 for travel and labor and Kohler won't stand behind their warranty or customer. What an awful way to do business. The Area Service Mgr shows no interest in trying to make his customer happy. BTW, this is our second Kohler generator but it will definitely be our last. We will go back to Generac should this one fail. It just proves that warranties don't matter to huge corporations who could care less about their customers. The product may be good but the people behind it don't support their customers.

Kohler 20KW Air-Cooled Standby Generator. From the day it was installed this generator has had problems. After a year, it does not run. The dealer keeps telling us Kohler is going to replace the motor. No one can give us any clues as to when that might happen. Wish we would have gone with Generac, or anything else that will run.

Customer support in my area and nearby is non-existent. The tech told us he would not be back due to the distance from Yakima, WA, to Moses Lake, WA. He also complained about the road he had to travel over. He was not cooperative, and his complaining attitude sucked. Unfortunately, I recommended and installed Kohler to my other 4 off-the-grid neighbors (from 14,000Kva to 20,000 Kva RESA). We all pay the consequences.

I purchased a new Kohler Generator model 20RCAL serial # 339RGVHN0940 and wish I had not! Put the generator on our newly built home in May of 2021 and it only ran once a week for 20 minutes for its normal start up procedure. The first time our power went out in April of 2024 the unit failed after 26 hours of running. When the tech arrived to get it going I was told we had major issues. He found a melted brush holder, broke brush and broken slip ring. The unit would not run without replacing all the parts. When the unit died it had a total of 84 hours on it. I called Kohler and they replaced the parts under warranty but would not cover labor. I understand the warranty but with only 84 hours of use before it fail, I would expect them to stand behind their product. If this is all the better they can make a generator, I would not get a Kohler. PURCHASE A GENERAC for a better product!

As a generator installer I was requested by by customer to install a Kohler generator. I do not typically install this brand but I agreed. The install went OK with a few strange issues like tie down bolt holes not accessible. After install there were problems with the internal gas valve. Did some work to it and it ran. After two months and a season change the generator stopped running. The same valve issue. Tried to get warranty help and Kohler refused since I’m not an authorized installer. They sold me a generator as a licensed installer but won’t support my customer now since I’m not part of their “authorized” club. Be careful who you buy it from. Not blaming them but their sales tactics are questionable. They should have refused to sell it to me if they wouldn’t support it!

Horrible service. Couldn't connect their new app - needed to reset the pin. Figured that out myself after hours of searching online, calling to get a robo answer, and trying email - that did respond days later with the wrong information. I'm still missing the two prong plug for the TB1 circuit board. Kohler told me to work my retailer (Menards). After KOHLER sent the wrong part they are no longer responding to the retailer. Wish I would have bought a Generac.

You don’t need a professional to do an install. I bought my KOHLER generator wholesale and saved almost $4000! I bought a precast cement pad and I got a local gas fitter at $250 to plumb in the Natural gas. I then got a local electrician to hook up hook up my generator as well as a panel upgrade to 200amp. From 100 that my home had. Cost $2500. My whole cost to install was $8000! The quotes I got from generator companies was from $12 to $16k!! I’ve had the generator for 8 months with no problems! Best investment in my home I ever made! Oh, by the way I live in Canada. So in American dollars I spent $5,700!

Kohler has a big problem with connectivity between their servers and my 20KW generator. The online app has been replaced with a phone app which doesn't make things any better. Kohler is suppose to send notifications when the generator is operating in either Test Mode or Outage mode. The hardwired connection to the generator has been checked many times and as an engineer I am appalled that Kohler's customer support team blames the problem locally rather than their own servers. If you can't be notified about an outage, even when the internet stays up, then what's the point? Get your act together Kohler. Never buy this again.

I would highly recommend the generator but not necessarily the customer service. My initial setup was good and after a few months it lost the connection to the wifi. I called and all I had to do was step through the process without changing anything. When the new app came out from OneCue to the Kohler Energy management app getting the app set up was a small problem and when I called the support center I was treated less than kindly. It worked ok until yesterday when both apps claim to have lost the ability to communicate with the generator. The Generator says it is connected. Both apps say it is not. I can't get through on the phone to talk to anyone. The technical support says they are experiencing high call volume and to call back later then repeats the message. With questionable software how do I know this generator will work when needed?

I purchased a whole home Kohler generator for my new house. Spent over $18000. Sales rep really talked Kohler up over Generac. Same price for either. Kohler does not stand by their product. The generator only worked 1 hour. All the oil leaked out of it. Have been told by multiple people at Airco the engine needs to be replaced. Airco has been trying to get the repair authorized for 2 months now. Kohler wants to do a band aid repair on a new unit. Replace a seal. This is unacceptable. At this point it still hasn’t been repaired. Should never take this long to get a brand new generator repaired. If looking for a generator go with Generac. I had a Generac at my old house for 18 years and never had an issue. Biggest regret ever is going with Kohler.

Started the process of getting a quote from their website, they assigned a company that did a site survey but the dealer never followed up with a quote. I contacted them, and they never replied. I contacted a 2nd dealer from Kohler's dealer list and filled out a form to have them come and do a site survey, but they never responded. I contacted Kohler corporate twice at their generator feedback email address as listed on their site about these problems, and never heard anything - apparently, they have enough customers and don't want any new ones for a big ticket item like this.

My Kohler Generator continues to have oil leakage concerns since install. NHgenerators installed and repaired the concern only to have Oil continuing to leak. I have yet to receive a root cause analysis from NH Generators. I have since contacted Powers Generator to perform my first required maintenance only to find the Generator was and is still leaking. Powers repaired and is looking to have a repair history from NHgenerators. I contacted Bill from NHgenertor for root cause and corrective actions taken by them in order to have a comprehensive service report but have not received. Currently my "investment" continues to leak.

Two generators had issues—with one, a flange broke off and my electrician and you Kohler folks said you had never seen that before. I was advised to get a new one rather than have it repaired, because there was no guarantee it would not happen again. With the next one, the electrical connection did not work right. It’s been almost 2 years and all seems fine now.

I bought an army generator 20-something years ago and when I did, my father-in-law who owns a meat market asked why I bought it. I said I have a home office and I live out in the county and I can't afford to lose my power at home. My father-in-law put a Kohler in his meat market for the first time and he was very happy with his generator. So, I used that example to get a Kohler. I talked to the guy who sold me the military generator 20 years prior and I was looking at a Generac. And he said not to go with it and that there are parts shortages. I said I was just asking and he just sealed the deal. I knew where I was going, which was Kohler. But I got the generator too late. I should have gotten it a year earlier.
I was a truck driver over the road and my wife moved out to Michigan to take care of a family business. We didn't have anybody in the home and then we had a power outage and the military generator was not one that automatically came on like my father-in-law's in the meat market. So, we suffered some water damage in the basement. We pulled the trigger on Kohler. There’s minimal maintenance, which is once a year. I let the rep take care of it and he calls me if there’s an issue. The representative is first class. He is the best, super representative of Kohler. We've recommended Kohler and our neighbor's about to buy one. There are several $100 spiffs if one of your friends or neighbors happened to come on board and it was great. But I would have done it anyway. People should relax and rest easy. Their power problem is not a problem. It is now solved.

I got a generator because I don't wanna be without electricity. Every couple of months we lose electricity, and our KOHLER generator kicks on by itself. It takes a few seconds. It senses that the electric is out and turns on by itself. It's done that every time, seven times in the couple years I've had it. And then it stays on until the electricity comes on. It automatically turns itself off when the electricity comes back on. The worst case we had was one that went 40 hours.

I decided to buy a home generator because I feel that solar power is not where it needs to be to put it in my house. KOHLER has the shortest wait time as far as backorders. It was a great experience. The guys came out and got my quote in quickly. Unfortunately, we ordered right around the time of COVID. So, we had to wait a little while because of the backorders. It wasn't Kohler's fault. It was everything coming in from overseas. So, we understood that. But when our actual generator came in, it was in place and working in no time. We had an 18-wheeler take out a power pole and it took out quite a few blocks of power for homes in the area. It was about six hours of time before they were able to get the power back to the homes. Our KOHLER generator kicked on within seconds of our house losing the power. It was great.

I have a 20,000KW purchased new. There have been issues since day one. Have not had running in 4 months. Have had no less than 7 service calls, have replaced regulators on tank regulators in unit new starter. New circuit board, now they are saying probably a new motor every part = no less than 2 service calls. I have spent $2500+ on service calls. I can't get anyone in Kohler to help me, their service gives me the same crap, we will replace this part next. I want the unit replaced. It was built during covid, they must have had help issues or something for this is not what I expect with quality product. I now feel like no matter what I will always have issues with this unit. IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK. REPLACE THE DAMN UNIT. I HAVE ELDERLY HANDICAPPED PEOPLE IN THE RESIDENCE. We have had 3 outages since this went down, I live off the beaten path. Could you stand by your product, PLEASE replacing, everything is not standing by quality.

KOHLER was recommended by the contractor that we normally use, Crisafulli Bros. We also like the availability of KOHLER compared to any other brand. We got the generator mostly as a precaution for winters. We want to make sure that we won't have blackouts. Until the 20th of last month, the generator worked perfectly. We had it this year with a couple of outages. One was very long. It was six hours in my neighborhood and it was not an issue.
We have it programmed that will test the generator every Saturday but we haven't been in the house for the past three weekends. So, we couldn't tell that it was not working. We had an outage on the 20th and it did not kick in. We called Crisafulli. So, they scheduled an appointment. They came in on Monday and it turned out that, where the gas-air mixture is done on the generator was loose. The bolt just came loose and it was sucking air and not enough of a mixture of gas. So, it was not starting. The tech fixed it. He just tightened the bolt.

The signup process with Kohler was super easy. I just told the reps what I wanted. We sized the generator to power everything in the house, the shop, the cabin and the whole nine yards. We have two of the generators and they seem like good products. As long as it's supplying me natural gas, they'll keep running.

There have been some very brief outages since we got the KOHLER generator, so it has kicked on for six occasions for no longer than half an hour. We're perfectly happy with the generator and it has done everything we've asked it to do. After we got by the capital cost of installing it and installing the propane tank that it uses, it's been totally hassle-free.

The company I hired came out a week after I signed the contract, brought the generator and had everything up and running in less than a day. The quality of the Kohler generator is great. Every time the power went out, it instantly kicked on and I haven't had any issues from it. Also, a lot of electricians recommended Kohler and said Generacs are being made poorly now. The only thing I would recommend is Bluetooth or wireless capability.

KOHLER's rep was very knowledgeable and he had a lot of details about the generator. Purchasing was easy and the setup was great. But I used the generator twice so far and it didn't perform as it was supposed to. The first time, there was a error code on the generator. I looked online and I tried to reset it but I wasn't able to. So, we had to wait a couple of days until a repairman came and fixed it. The second time was when the motherboard fried out and the battery had an issue. The motherboard was included in the coverage, so that was fine, but we had to get the battery. We used the generator three more times and that worked out fine. We used it for four hours, six hours, and one time for at least 16 hours. It can power the pool and every single thing in the house. I'd tell my friends to buy one.

It's been great with Kohler. They have good products. We went through the generator service up here and I had a friend that's a good electrician. He put the generator in and it was real easy. It's been in for two years and we've used it seven times. We had lost power for three days through a windstorm. We just turned it on and we were fine. It's super convenient and so easy. I can just go in the garage and flip it on.

At 47 hours of run time (all exercise hours) my 20kw generator engine failed. An internal engine part blew a hole in the engine case. Kohler would not cover my labor cost for replacing the engine. I had to pay $1300 for labor after only 47 hours of run time! And terrible Kohler customer service. My local, independent (200 miles away) service technician was outstanding. But Kohler - no way.

My experience with Kohler was great. They were able to help with any problems I had. I purchased a propane unit. After I purchased I thought I should have purchased a diesel one because what if a propane truck can make it in to fuel it up and I'm screwed and with diesel, I'm able to pack a container to keep my generator going. I am happy with my purchase and not having the inconvenience of not having electricity. With this global warming you just never know how long we'll be without of electricity.

I got the generator, after being in the heat for 3 days. Trees fell and knocked out my power. I have not had an outage since, that storm! I just feel relieved when it comes on every Saturday morning, for its test run. I researched and read reviews on every generator, I could find online.

We purchased a Commercial grade Kohler generator KG1000R for our Ambulatory Surgery Center and the oil pump broke within 2 years of purchase. We needed a backup genset which is costing 16k per/month and it's taking more than 3 weeks for Kohler to approve the warranty work and still waiting... Have called customer service 5 X's and tried to escalate but being told that the warranty has not been submitted correctly. We are getting ready to go on 2nd month of paying 16k for the replacement by the time we get the parts, and the generator is fixed we will have paid what the generator cost. Not sure why Kohler would not stand by this product which could be a manufacturer defect. Very disappointed.

My first KOHLER generator was a good purchase. I live in an area that loses power because the wind changes direction. Annoying. We had a freak Autumn snow storm several years ago around Halloween. This is the reason I purchased a Kohler Generator to service the entire house. There was no power for a week. A plus being the weather was manageable with fireplaces. Several years into this, used less than average, I believe, the "motherboard" died. I had it replaced and it was not cheap. A year or two later, not much longer, I believe, the "motherboard" died again! The cost to replace it was astronomically higher. (More than twice that of the first replacement.)
That replacement happened last year, 2023. So, wish me luck. The first time the generator was doing its weekly test run (2023).... It did not!!! A brand new generator!! No, I was not happy. The service company came and reset whatever the issue was and life is good.... So far!

Not all Kohler's fault, but our 12Res has not been fully functional for a couple of years now. Kohler agent, for installation and warranty work goes missing sometimes for months at a time and still has not been able to get us a working generator. My calls to Kohler have not been much help. Still waiting on lemon generator that should have been replaced with a working one long ago.

Dealer Purchased From BOLD Electric & Generators, Model Number: 20RCA, Serial Number: 339RGHKG3955. I have purchased this with 10 year warranty. Purchased in in year 2022. Since last 6 months my generators was not coming up on routine service. When I contacted my dealer who installed, they came, repaired it, however they did not cover this under the warranty. Which was very disappointing. Generator was not working proper, don't understand why it will not cover under the warranty. Bold company mentioned that Kohler did not cover this repair. Very disappointing.

I've had two KOHLER generators. The first one wasn't good. The motherboard went out and I had all kinds of problems with it. I had it repaired, but it cost thousands to fix it, then it went out. I replaced it with the brand-new identical unit and I haven't had a problem with the new one yet. It runs for 15 minutes a week to charge the battery and if the power goes out, it turns right on. I've used it for four days straight to power my whole house. It's a 20 kW and it works great. Having it gives me peace of mind when the power goes out.

I have had nothing but problems with the generator and the service from Alaska Diesel Electric after many months of waiting. They finally got the generator to start and run but only a few months later it is throwing a stuck rotor code. I have contacted them several times and no response. No help.

Do not buy online as you won't be able to get any service. Issues with our purchase. No support. Leaking oil. All electrical connections were loose. Cannot get the Kohler application to setup the generator, their cell phone app is nearly worthless as you can't start the generator remotely when there is an error of any kind, big minus. If you purchase online, don't expect any local dealer support as they all say who installed it, where did you purchase it, if you don't purchase from a local dealer do not even consider a Kohler as the main number. Folks can't really help you.

Generator doesn't turn over at 15 degrees. Warranty covers nothing. Service locally changed parts and warranty covered nothing. Called Kohler and told there was nothing they can do. Wind chill here is minus zero. Not uncommon. Not pleased overall. We were out of state on both failures. Not good. Thank you.

My biggest disappointment was not able to get an extended warranty. I purchased from Lowe's in Palestine, TX and they said they did not sell extended warranties. My electrician I learned after the fact they were not authorized to install KOHLER products therefore could not sell an extended warranty. So, you should understand my frustration as a consumer.

After installation, I complained about noisy operation; the rep told me that the generator sounded “normal.” After a few months of operating, the unit no longer sounds like a loud Harley Motorcycle. The unit functions properly and is a comfort during power outages. I’m glad I have security during storms and other causes of power failure. Knowing that my entire house will have power just seconds after an outage happens is great! I would recommend a KOHLER unit to anyone who is searching for a back-up power system.

Our local installer (Ritzman) took care of ordering Kohler generator, installation and permits. The generator already had a little half hour outage that was seamless. The machine looks very well built and came highly recommended. Maintenance is minimal and the weekly self test is scheduled at a time to least bother anyone within earshot of noise. But honestly the noise isn’t bad and test runs short time v.

Installation was difficult and painful with the distributor I bought from. Initially I was told delivery would be 2 weeks from order and install would be 2-3 days. The whole nightmare took 6 months and the distributor was here 15+ times. Lots of phone calls, messages and I had to work my schedule around the more than 15 times he was on site. The engine was finally started March 23, although project was not complete. By May of 23 details of the OnCue were not final but I couldn't deal with any more appointments with the whole thing. I finally gave the distributer the last payment and said we're done. Since January 2024 I have reached out to another distributor to schedule annual maintenance. As of yet, it has not been scheduled and is now overdue. I'd say your distributor network needs some work.

The planned outage lasted four and one half hours, and the backup worked as expected. This was the only outage to date. Many outages before I purchased the Kohler backup. Looking for more outages to come. No more nights of getting up and starting a manual backup, or going on vacation wondering if everything is safe.

The Kohler Generator is a lot noisier than I expected. If there could be some more sound dampening, that would be great. I also couldn't find a way to reset the amount of time on the generator since my service. I know that they want me to have it serviced by a certified technician, but I serviced it myself. But I was satisfied with its price.

I've had the Kohler generator installed for over a year, and it works like a champ. We had to use it once for about half an hour or so, then another time for a couple of minutes. However, we had a lot of problems in the beginning. My electrician installed the generator and it was set up to go off every Monday at 10:30 in the morning, but it would not turn on. I had the installer as well as the plumber come back many times. Over and over, they tried all different things. They practically reinstalled all the inside of the generator. Finally, they replaced the generator with a new Kohler generator and it was fine.

I'm very satisfied with the generator. It kicks on every Sunday at a certain time, runs for an allotted time, and kicks off. I've had the power go off a couple of times, and it would kick in. As soon as the power would come back on, it would kick off. When I first got the generator, I couldn't find out about a warranty so I called Kohler. There was a lady there that was working with me to get the extra warranty, but we got disconnected and she never called me back.

The rep was top of the line. He told me the truth and did what he said. We got a full house generator that keeps everything running. For about seven seconds, you're in the dark, and then you're back in the light again and keep your freezers, refrigerator, and air conditioners going. We got three air conditioners and everything goes on like nothing happened. Our generator is a $37,000 unit and it's got a natural gas motor that you don't ever have to charge it up and fill it up. It just runs like a car engine. It runs as long as you need it to. It's pretty nice to have around. It's peace of mind.

I am impressed with the Kohler's quality. We have two Kohlers now. We love it. I need to generate the whole house. I got a Kohler generator and we use it quite often. Everything was fine. The first time, when we received the Kohler, it had a bad motor in it. So, the company had to come and replace it. That took a little time because no one wanted the warranty, but Kohler came back and they told the company to come and do it. That process took about a month. The generator worked fine after they replaced the motor, but the motor seized up.
Someone needs to be accountable if it seizes up. The distributor didn't wanna replace it. So, DeBlois Electric, where I bought it from, called the distributor and said, “Hey, look, this motor seized. What do you want me to do? We bought it from you. We installed it. And it seized up.” It didn't even have 10 hours on it. They were complaining, “Oh, you guys didn't put oil in it.” But it had oil in it. It ran. It was defective, and nobody wanted to be accountable for it. That Kohler generator cost $15,000. So, that's a lot of money. We don't use it at all. It comes on once a week to exercise itself. So, if we count how many hours we've used it during the storm, we lost it for four days. So, with 24 hours of the day times four days, it ran constantly and everything was working fine. We had no issues.

My Kohler generator had a problem, and they told me that the ones that came out during covid had a problem. This was one of the last ones that they had sold, and they stood behind it. They came out, took the thing apart, replaced a lot of parts in it and all the insides out of it, and there's been no problem since. The supervisor from Billings, Montana came up and helped supervise it, making sure it was all done right.

Decision to purchase and have Kohler installed after reviewing information with local contractor. Mid Missouri weather is so unpredictable, and the generator worked well. Also worked well when unexpected outage(s) with utilities work! Told one job would take 1 hour and it took 6. Stayed toasty warm and cost was not unreasonable to run.

The waiting time on the 12RESV generators have been a little extended. Not sure why. Also, with Wells Fargo you could pay for the generators as you sold them. With needing to order at least 4 generators for free shipping, they need to be on one invoice and then you have to pay for them all at once. You do not have the option of paying as you sell.

I live in a rural area and the power goes out a lot. I got a KOHLER generator. We had a power outage when the storm came through. It knocked down some of the lines. I used the generator for about two days. Overall, the generator did exactly what the instruction said it was gonna do and what the installer said it was gonna do. It's a lifesaver for me.

I had an oil leak. I came to find out, it was a seal on the engine itself. They came out and replaced that engine. The techs who came out were also very good and knowledgeable.

Kohler is the best value. It isn't the cheapest but it's more robust and stronger. Because of its efficiency, it works perfectly. Every Saturday morning it runs a 15-minute test. Sometimes I go out and look at my panel to make sure everything's running as expected and it's always been 100%. The dealer I worked with recommended some transfer switches on the air conditioners so that when all three units are on, it won't have a major drag on the generators. That was a small upcharge, but it's worth it. I paid for extra deal where they come in every six months and check it. They’ll change the oil so that keeps the warranty valid. The dealer is no longer in business, so I'm dealing with a different dealer. They're not quite as good but this other dealer is less than a mile from my house.

I've had a good experience with Kohler and their warranty. We've had some problems and they followed through well. However, I had a bad purchasing experience with the guy in Laurel, Montana who had bought the company from somebody else who had a good reputation. They didn't file my warranty and when there was a problem, they sent me bills. I had to call the company, and they sent me around talking to different people. But we got together with some other guys and TJ in Stevensville, Montana got it fixed. He's an excellent technician and he helped us get set up. We had another problem with another generator and they sent us a new one. We appreciated that very much. Kohler is the best for me. The generator comes on when we need it.

In 2023, I decided to get installation estimates for a standby generator. Internet searches indicated Kohler had better reviews for longevity. Some reviews described Kohler as a "light industrial grade" standby generator. I setup 3 estimate dates and 2 were fulfilled by Kohler dealers. The dealer estimate for Kohler's major competitor brand never showed up, but called me 3 weeks after my Kohler generator was installed. I had to tell him "I bought a Kohler!" I'm 75 years old now and I have to say, getting a Kohler generator installed was one of my best decisions. For over 22 years, I would drag the 5kw portable generator out of the storage shed when power was lost and try to get it started. No more of that agony!
In 2024, we lost power 3 times between January and April. The Kohler generator performed flawlessly. We used our electric stove, washing machine, electric clothes dryer, microwave, furnace, well pump, etc. The generator never hesitated under the load. I know several folks that purchased one of those heavily advertised standby generator brands that start with a "G". The units failed during their 1st power outage! Luckily, they had a warranty. However, after an incident like that, I would lose confidence in my investment.
My Kohler generator starts up and test runs for 20 minutes every other Monday at 1:00pm. And, I receive cell phone notices when the generator starts up for any reason. Plus, I can start it remotely with my smartphone using the OnCue Plus App. Since I have a high water table at my home, my basement sump pumps run constantly in the Spring and Fall. It's 1 more reason I need to rely on a standby generator. Thankfully, I have a Kohler standby generator that has not let me down yet.

We lost power in a storm in June 2023 and we're out for 2 weeks. I had to drive 200 miles to get a gasoline generator and chase gas around after that. We decided after that to get a whole home generator and leave that world behind. We don't regret it at all. We have had neighbors go dark and we are up and going.

When installed, unit would not start. Took a week for techs to come out and determine that the rear seal was leaking resulting in having to replace the whole rotor unit. Knocking sounds now coming from unit on like it is getting a false signal to try to start. Just does this occasion.

My generator goes off-line every two or three weeks and really doesn’t give me a level of comfort that it’s going to work when needed. I’ve had the company that did the installation out multiple times and they have no idea what to do to remedy this problem. Very disappointing.

Had the generator installed by service professor. Within 1 year the generator would not run. They came back and replaced the whole thing. Said bolts had sheared off internally. We will see how the replacement goes. They had recommended your generator over the Generac that I had for over twenty years. Not happy so far.

I had two consecutive problems with my generator. Both the switch and generator needed repairs over 2 weeks. I was encouraged by the Kohler repairman to ask for a refund from Kohler since the warranty just ended. When I called Kohler customer service and discussed the issues, I was told by the repairman's wife that a Kohler customer service rep told her to, "Back your customer off." The repairman dropped us as customers, and I'm left with an unreliable product. The whole situation was not worth the purchase of the generator, which in total cost me approximately 15K to install with an underground propane tank.

We love our KOHLER generator. we have had zero issues with it. It has never failed to work seamlessly when it needs to. There are times when the power goes down and we don't realize it. Smith Power Systems did a great job installing it and maintaining it! It also has a clean and neat appearance.

Our firm installs several generators each year with a wide range of sizes. Our experience is the air-cooled generators give us a high degree of call backs and failures. We seldom have call back and failures on liquid cooled units either propane or diesel. We now try to avoid promoting air cooled generators.

We had a 26RCA (26 kw) generator installed by Blue Star Gas out of Salem Oregon. It's quiet, and runs smoothly. The oncue App works well for remote monitoring. I've simulated 2 outages by turning off the utility supply and run up to 24kw of appliances. The transfer switch is fast enough that the our network router doesn't reboot when transferring back to utility power.

I called a company and they had an eight-month waiting list. It was at the time where there was a power outage. But Kohler had them available so I went with them. The rep I talked to was very knowledgeable and let me know anything I needed to know. I'm pretty happy with the generator. It comes on for its test every week and they come every May. They test it once a year and touch it up.

Quality is not expensive, it's priceless. I've been using that in my business. Stand behind what you got and do a good job at what you do. That's how I feel I have with Kohler. It also makes a difference who do you have to repair and, in time of need, to have somebody to call on. It seems we have somebody reliable in our area to do that for Kohler. The generator has more stainless steel inside the engine bay so I like it. When the battery went dead, they came out when I called them and replaced the battery.

The quote we got was right at the beginning of covid. It was 10,000 to 12,000. By the time I got around to it, it went up. It was 16,000. But it was like everything. Construction companies couldn't get lumber so lumber went skyrocketing. The availability was the reason and I understood it, so I paid it. I'm very satisfied with the Kohler generator. It works. The time it came on for half a day, it did everything it was supposed to do. I was supposed to go out and check it, but I wasn't exactly clear on how to check it. You have to check the oil after 24 hours of running, so you have to shut it down. But they had showed me when I got it. I also had called the office previously and asked which one as it's got three buttons. The rep knew right off the top of the head.

I've had nothing but good feedback for Kohler. They do a full annual maintenance, then they come six months later for a quick one. I've only used the generator once and it automatically kicked in in less than 30 seconds. Having the the generator gives me peace of mind.

Our KOHLER Generator runs very well. A few times we've had a brief outage, the thing went on. I am not a technical person. I'm very happy with it. Once a year, this other service company that came to my buddy's rescue, comes and does the service. And everybody's happy. It's not cheap to do the service. I usually have a senior discount. Didn't work in this case until we had a couple of brief outages, only for a couple of minutes. One time, it was 20 minutes. All my neighbors were very mad at me because I was the only bright light on the block. I would recommend KOHLER highly.

My generator won’t start. Factory defective wiring. My generator is a $20,000 paperweight. ** I have had three factory authorized electricians out to get it started. The electrical wiring won’t energize the solenoid. They get it started by jiggling wires and then leave. The wiring connector is a cheap rubber. Push pin plug runs great when electricians get started but won’t start without electrician's jiggling wires. Worthless.

Great job on install and sizing on generator. Clean area after install. Schedule was good. Randazzo did a great job on cost evaluation and follow up. All gas upgrades and mechanicals were good. Permit process was fine. City gov't. on granting the pass/fail was slow and they were confused on the task at hand.

The generator has been operational since July 2024.The generator has started and supplied power flawlessly when needed and has run for over 2 hours at a time on at least 3 occasions. Generator is testing weekly and appears to be functioning well. We haven't had an actual power outage to see how it does in a real situation; however, I'm confident it will perform well. We did have to change to the testing mode to "full power" as the "Eco" mode would result in the motor sputtering and chocking itself out.

Power On filed Chapter 11 not long after the gen was installed, which explains why I was never able to contact them by phone. The gen password was never provided to setup OnCuer. I got instruction on how to find it, but am unable to safely go to the gen due to its location. A new company, Capital Power Systems, LLC, has serviced the one year checkup and I was told that they would provide me with the password, never happened. However, they wanted over $1,000 to set up a link for monitoring, I already have a hard-wire connection to the internet. Hindsight, makes me wish I had never signed up for your product because of poor/unreliable maintenance service.

Installed June 2023. I bought property Sept. 2023. Installer (Bush Electric) refused to provide any information about the generator located at ** unless I paid him $100 for a service call. I know nothing about the generator. I am 73, windowed and hoping the generator will work if I need it.

I have a 20RESC home generator on propane. It was installed a little over 3 years ago. I recently had a problem with it not starting. Engine was turning over but it wasn't starting. It was determined that it was a regulator problem due I think to a design flaw. Feel free to call me if further information is needed. Replace regulator and is functioning correctly now.

My opinion on the 20RES-A vs. the 20RES is that the reliability has suffered. Moving the trickle charger into the controller has increased our controller replacement tenfold. The board replacements are not only more frequent but also more expensive. I understand that other manufacturers are doing the same but the reliability of our 10-15 year old generators exceeds the reliability of our 7 year old generators.

We purchased our Kohler 20KW Generator thru Woodlands Power Generation LLC. We don't have a Order Number. The unit is still louder than we anticipated and need to know that if we use a Zombiebox to reduce the operating noise, we won't void our 10-year Warranty (purchased). We recently had an overnight power failure that lasted throughout the night. By morning, our neighbors were not too pleased with the noise our generator created. We are looking at Zombiebox as an option but are concerned we will void our 10-year PURCHASED warranty (over $900).

I have had the generator operational since October 2023. It has been doing unloaded cycles for 10 minutes every 2 weeks. The unit is well built. It is out in the open exposed to North Central Nebraska's weather. The local electrician sold me the unit and installed it. They forgot to allow for CAT 5 cable to be pulled out so it could be accessed by the transfer switch.. I really wanted this option.. Another company came and did the initial startup. Everything worked well there. No problems... It is a very well built unit and should last many years...

I am satisfied with the purchase and performance of the KOHLER 20RCAL-200SELS 20KW unit purchased thru Power Equipment Direct on 4/21/2023. I did the install and commissioning myself (retired EE) so I was very unsatisfied to not be able to download or even purchase a copy of the Kohler Site Tech software. I have installed several larger commercial generators over the course of my career and feel you should make allowances for people who are capable of using it safely.

The unit was installed professionally and we would rate the installer a 5+. However, we’ve had an issue from day 1 with the internet connection. Whenever the unit is connected to the router it causes issues with our internet. The installer has been out twice and checked the cables no issues found. I’ve given up and just keep it unplugged.

Haven't used the generator during a power outage yet. I'm sure the quality of operation will be fine. Disappointed with the briefness and thoroughness of the walkthrough after the install. I'm still uncertain of some things related to the generator. Was assured by the sales rep it was one of the newest, quietest models. My neighbors Generac seems to be significantly quieter. When the generator exercises it seems to struggle to start up and get going. Overall, primarily disappointed in the noise level.

ELi Generator installed our new Kohler generator in January 2023. No issues with the generator installation. However, generator stopped working in November, just about 10 months after installation. ELi checked it, had to do some diagnostic work, reported to Kohler their findings, and Kohler sent them a brand new engine to swap out. I find it hard to believe that a generator engine, which has been used very little as we've had very few power outages, could go bad in less than a year after installation. Fortunately there were no out-of-pocket costs for me as the generator was still under warranty.

Kohler Generators are so dependable and I’m a huge fan of the Kohler Command Pro engine …. that I view as practically bullet-proof as I have two in equipment that have lasted for decades. So, easy decision to draw upon kohler's almost 100 years of experience in generators and the most reliable engine made for my home use. We live in a very rural area and the grid is not always reliable… but our GenSet is. We’re never left in a bind. Awesome product that is the ultimate security blanket and provides much needed peace of mind.

My Koehler generator works as expected. It has been installed for one year. Bryce ** did an exceptional job within the limitations of the covid pandemic and the supply train issues. There were some communication issues in the beginning, however, those were resolved. We are satisfied with our selection of your product.

I bought a Kohler 10/12RESV natural gas generator through my electrician, as part of a large rewiring and service upgrade at my house. Unfortunately, Kohler treats you like dirt if you do not buy through their dealer network. I had a gas leak from the start. Apparently there was a design flaw with a crucial part that should have been covered but Kohler was stonewalling me because they said they did not know if the installer (a certified and bonded gas fitter I used) did a proper job. After spending nearly $10k on a generator, I was not impressed. Thankfully, the person at the local Kohler distributor -- who does the service on Vancouver Island -- was great. He fought for me and Kohler covered it under warranty. The generator is working fine -- starts up every week for 20 min -- but I haven't had a power outage yet. My message to Kohler: don't sell me your expensive generator if you treat me like a second-class citizen.

We been having trouble with it. The first time our electric went out it didn't work. The company been very helpful trying to fix it. I am not sure if it works at this time. Would not recommend this to anybody. The company I bought it from is not at fault. I think the equipment is inferior to generac. My friend has one with no issues. Hope this will work if there is a problem. Paid a lot of money for this unit.

We have looked for someone to change the oil on our generator, but we have not found anyone. This is very frustrating, the place we purchased the unit from is of no help as they told us they did not service them. So here we are with no one to service our unit! UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS!!!!

Quality of product and experience with contractor installing the equipment. Accessible representatives from Kohler. The contractor was very knowledgeable and did a great job with installation. Follow-up maintenance within 6 months. The generator was briefly engaged during a power failure and worked very well. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

We purchased a Kohler generator 5.5 years ago (one that would supply power to the entire house). At the time, we paid almost $10k for the unit and install. Since the unit was installed, it may have used it 10 times in 5.5 years (very limited), and we had the generator serviced every year since the install. A month ago, the generator would not turn over on its weekly scheduled start so we called a company out to see what the issue was. Come to find out two major mechanical parts are no longer working (costing an estimated $3000 to repair).
Of course, this all happens six months after the 5 year warranty. Again, keep in mind that we have only used the unit approximately 10 times in the last 5 years. Find yourself a better generator product, $13000 total in generator fees (not including the annual maintenance conducted) is a little excessive. We are very disappointed with the product. Generators are supposed to be providing insurance to the homeowner when power is lost. Not this brand.

With the automatic transfer switch, the generator kicks right on within 30 seconds of the power being out. There isn't any disruption. Once the power comes back on, the generator shuts off automatically and you don't have to do anything except to reset a digital clock. You don't notice any loss of service other than that 30 seconds it takes for the generator to kick on. Also, when you put a surge on a Kohler, the voltage doesn't fluctuate like it does on a Generac.

I always like Kohler. Their products can be reliable. I use their generator all the time. We are off the grid and it's what charges our batteries when there's not enough solar power. This time of the year we don't get a lot of sunshine so it runs once a day for three hours. It's all done through a website through my inverter. So far, it's been excellent. We're running on our second year with it. We've had a couple of problems when it was first made. They left some some bolts loose but the folks we bought it from came and fixed it. If anybody talks about buying a generator, I always tell that they should look at Kohler. The quality of the build could have been better though.

We had one outage for an hour and a half and my KOHLER generator kicked on. It did fine. If it's on the exercise cycle, the generator comes on and transfers in a split second. Doesn't even blink the lights. And if it's on an outage, it takes it a few seconds to recognize the outage, start and come up to speed and transfer. It's high quality. I'm familiar with the KOHLER engines and have been for years. And even though it's a small engine, it is great. The same quality holds over into the generator.
The only downside of any part of it is that the company that I contacted to come and do the initial startup in order to enforce the warranty, they offered to come back and service the generator, and they were coming from 90 miles away. So, they wanted almost $500 to service that generator, which is ridiculous. It takes a quarter and a half of oil. Other than that, I'm very happy with it. I recommended a friend of mine in Florida to get a KOHLER generator. She did and they will do the installation April 1st.

My KOHLER generator comes on every week to check itself, and after 12 months, you're supposed to do the once-a-year maintenance to change the oil and the air filter. It was on a Monday that it would check itself and I wanted to wait until it ran for 12 minutes, then as soon as it shut off, I wanted to drain the oil while it was hot. But it didn't come on and that was right after the time change in the fall. So, I waited for it to come on at 1 o'clock, but it still didn't come on at 1 o'clock. So, I called the guy that installed it for me and who I bought it from. He said he would walk me through the process to get it to start. But it wouldn't start and would just give an "Ur. Ur." Like it had a dead battery. He told me to come on over and that he'd give me a new battery for it. He also said that it was still under warranty. So, I went over, got another battery, and put it in. But it still wouldn't turn over.
So, I called him back and he came out. There was something wrong internally inside the engine, so he had to remove it, go get a new one, and put it in. But when he put it in, the battery was dead. So, he didn't know if it was going to run or not. I was out of town for a bit and when I came back, I tried to start it and it would just give me a little buzzing noise whenever I hit the start button. So, I called him back and this was three months later. The generator still has never run since he put it in there. He came out and changed the battery in it, then he started checking this and that. There was some kind of relay that went bad, so he had to come back another day, which was a Thursday. When he came back on Thursday afternoon, he put the relay in it and he finally got it to start. It's supposed to check itself every Sunday at 1 PM, so I'll know on Sunday at 1 o'clock if it's going to run or not.

The Kohler Generator has been great. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. I've had no problems at all with it and it provides security. I would highly recommend it to anybody.

The city street was being rebuilt and the power was turned off for six hours on a Sunday. So, the generator came on and protected the refrigerator and the garage door. Compared to Generac, the Kohler generator is loud and we’ve had some issue with maintaining it.

Our KOHLER generator starts and runs every week for 20 minutes just to warm up and make sure everything is running right. The generator isn't that loud. I haven't had to use it for long term but it seems to work fine. It's good to me. The price was good.
