My wife and I had our retirement home completed in 2005. We decided to buy the top of the line Jenn-Air appliances for our kitchen and the Neptune Washer and Gas Dryer, so we wouldn't have to deal with reliability issues with cheaper appliances! I used to tease my best friend about always using Consumer Reports before making any major purchase. What a big mistake by us. We always bought Maytag Washers & Dryers based on their reputation and our previous experience. Not anymore! The Neptune Washers are pure garbage The washer and dryer had electronic control panels replaced under warranty.

The washer bangs, shakes, and moves when running. I know it is a matter of time, per the repair person, that it will totally fall apart, (wax motor, drum seal, etc).

The $1,700 dishwasher fill valve stuck and filled the dishwasher to the top and flooded our kitchen floor. It had a one year labor and two year parts warranty. It was one month out of the one year, so the $37.00 part would be replaced for free , I just had to pay the $100 labor charge to change it. They do not furnish parts, without someone paying for the labor. I went on line and bought the valve and installed it myself. It has been working fine for a few months now. (knock on wood!)

The above the Jen-Aire cook top Microwave & Hood combination just died last week. Dead blank screen. The technition came out and needed assistance to diagnose the problem. He ordered a new control panel and over temperature sensor. It should be in next week.

The Jenn-Aire side by side refrigerator is very noisey and the ice maker is starting to malfunction. It makes moaning sounds and freezes up because the freshly made ice doesn't eject completely into the tray. I decided to visit our local Maytag Store and found out that it was for rent and they moved to their used appliance location,(a much smaller facility.) I asked him why the change. They laid it on me. They said the customers are pissed! They think we are making this stuff in the back room and taking their frustrations out on us, the dealer. They said that they refuse to take new orders on the most troubled models! We originally purchased a side by side refrigerator, The Professional Series double oven, separate cook top, Microwave/hood combination, Dishwasher, Compactor and the Neptune Washer and Dryer. All top of the line crap at a cost of nearly $8,000! Don't ever buy anything without checking current consumer history. You cannot depend on previous reputation. Not in the U.S. anymore It is all about profits. No follow up or concern. Get the money and run.

We purchased all Jenn Air and Maytag appliances for our new home in December 2001. Our first problem was with our Maytag side by side refrigerator. It wasnt cooling properly and I spent $230 on a new compressor (and labor) to fix the problem. The second and more significant problem is with our Jenn Air convection wall oven. I first noticed that it seemed to take forever to pre-heat to 350 degrees. I was so frustrated I purchased a small Back & Decker countertop oven which I use almost exclusively.

Currently, the oven door wont even close properly because three of the four hinges on the door are broken. Additionally, the oven control panel display? went out several weeks ago and the entire circuit board needs to be replaced. The repairman was here this morning and the total estimate to fix it is $610. Yipes!!!!!!!!!

    Model JGC8536ADS is UNSERVICEABLE.

After two years the ignitors began to fail and when three were broken I called fo help (June 2007).

Visit 1: The engineer comfirmd that three ignitors needed replacement, (no warranty) but could be ordered and replaced for around $200. Expensive, but so was the cooktop. Hey, Jenn-Air has a reputation to maintain so parts must be expensive now they're owned by Maytag. (I've owned/used Jenn-Air for 26 years...They are, no were the best. NO more..see below)

Visit 2: (+2weeks) Parts arrived, engineer too. Unable to remove burner because screws holding burner base to orifice holder have been fused together by the heat. Broke several tools trying to remove the Torx screws! Poor design. No problem we'll order the burners (they're covered by warranty)

Visit 3a: (Today) Arrive to remove the burners by drilling the screws out. Unable to. so called for backu-up

Visit 3b: (Today) Help is unable to remove screws. Soon realised that even if successful the stubs of the screws were still in the orifice holders and would have to drill those out too. And this would entail complete dis-sassembly of the cooktop. Now they have left...unable to effect a repair as they had promised.

My initial investment in Jenn-Air has been poor.

Though the cooktop performs well, the quality leaves a lot to be desired. There must be degrees of Stainless and this must be low. In th old days Stainles meant just that. Now the steel is thin, flimsy and weak and takes marks very easily.

Warranty states that in third through fifth years, parts...which fail will be ..replaced free of charge but the owner pays labor. This unit cost $800 new and with $2000 exposure already it's becoming uneconomic to even invoke the warranty...their labor will soon outweight the cost of a new unit. And I bought a Jenn-Air for their reputation for features, service and reliability. That was then and this is now...I am rapidly losing confidence in Jenn-Air. Poor design means that even experienced engineers are unable make a simple repair .

Now I am seriously concerned about the viability of any repair to this unit. Gas appliances need to maintain higher safety standards then electric. Gas appliances do not have breakers to cut off the flow if something goes wrong and I may be in serious danger from and equipment failure due to poor design, shoddy manufacture or a repair which is not up to original manufacturer specs!

We purchased a Jennaire stove in 1998. Of course there is no longer a warranty. The oven started taking forever to preheat and finally last week it took 30 minutes to go from 110 to 145 and we smelled gas so called and got the name of a reputable repairmann. He came out ($69 service call) and told us that the repair would cost $398! That plus the repair cost is nearly what we paid for the store on sale!

I certainly wish I had known about this web site in '98 as I would never have purchased a JennAire product and I most certainly will never in the future.

In 2004 we built a new home, all Jann-Air appliances because our contractor had a deal. They have been nothing but trouble from day one.

We were in the house one week when the ice maker had to be replaced. After 6 months the starter on the outdoor gas grill went. Within a year the repair people came out because the gas cook top caps warped and the burners were melted. The oven door didn't close properly, so they rplaced the hinges.

On December 31, 06, I opened the side-by-side refrigerator to have a blast of hot air come out. It was 81 degrees, and the freezer was up to 58. The local authorized repair service came out and determined that it was a warranty issue. We finally had a number, 1-800-905-9505, A&E Factory Service, who sent someone out. He was a nice guy, but he was here every week for the next THREE MONTHS. The compressor was replaced, and the defrost timer, along with every part you can think of in a refrigerator. Every morning I would open the door and water would come pouring out. Freon was injected at least 4 times. Finally, in early April, after many phone calls, letters, and finally getting our builder to contact the local distributor, a new unit was delivered. I didn't want it, but thousands of dollars are involved.

Last month we paid $695 to repair the undercounter ice maker. The pump died. Now it is noisier than ever.

Yesterday, I was baking fish for a dinner party for 6 people. When I went to get the fish out of the oven, the door fell off on the left hand side. One of our guests managed to yank off the other side and put the door in the garage.

My microwave door sounds like a haunted house. I'm waiting for that to fall off, too. Dishwasher is making sound it shouldn't. It's just a matter of time. Would I ever buy Jenn Air again? Not on your life.

Refrigerator, lost food. Oven door could have been disastrous if I had a hotroasting pan in my hand when it happened, or if it fell on my foot.

My icemaker/water dispenser on my Jenn-Air/Maytag side by side fridge turns on by itself and flooded my condominium and the people below, causing $3,000 in damage to my unit, not including the repair of the celings in the unit below. Repaired for over $300, and guess what? It just happened again. This will be the 6th service call on this fridge in its 6 year life -- the cost of repairs are nearing the cost of the unit new.

By the way-my Jenn-Air Maytag gas oven will not heat up either. Both were expensive units.

In 2001 I purchased all Jenn Air Appliances for my home - Convection Oven, Induction Counter Range, Microwave, Trash Compactor, Dishwasher and Side by Side Refrigerator.

The Microwave door does not open unless the door is pushed upward while pressing the opening lever. The built in oven's entire control panel has been replaced, the most expensive part of the oven. The refrigerator condenser/heat exchanger completely freezes up and the panels have to be removed from the freezer to defrost and remove the ice build up.

This has been going on for over 2 years and Jenn Air would do nothing. Of course all warranties have expired and if I want it fixed I can pay for the parts and a very expensive service call. So much for top of the line appliances.

We built a brand new house in 2004 with all Jenn Aire appliances in the kitchen. The fridge didn't work right away; it just didn't get cold enough. We were told that is as cold as it gets. Turns out the brand new fridge needed Freon - already! The wonderful new Jenn Air oven takes 20 minutes, at least, to heat up to 350.

We purchased a very expensive natural gas grill when Lowes first started carrying JennAire. We thought JennAire had such a great reputation they would have a great product. This grill has never cooked even as well as an bottle gas grill. The middle burner doesn't get hot enough to even cook a hamburger. I have had a gas service man out to check on it and he said it was just the grill. Does JennAire have any policy for refunds or exchanges of something this expensive? When we paid this type of money, we expected it to last many years.

I purchased a new Jennaire oven microwave combo in Dec of 2005. Since then the door to the oven has fallen off three times, two of those times it crashed to the floor into a million pieces of glass everywhere. We happened to catch it the one time it did not break.

Unfortunatly I was hurt this time because it fell on my foot, cutting it. Is Jennaire waiting for someone to get killed before they do something about this?

In June of 2005 we moved into a home that has two homes in one, two laundry rooms, two kitchens. The microwave in the downstairs kitchen has blown out twice, and the disherwasher, which is rarely used, the handle to open the door is frozen.

In the upstairs kitchen the six burner stainless steel cooktop that we paid to have upgraded is poorly designed. The way the racks sit on the stove it scratches the front and back of the stove. The knobs are plastic and a medium sized pan, if not placed perfectly on the rack, will melt the plastic knobs.

The double oven has a fan that not only stay on the entire time the oven is on, it stays on for a substantial period of time after the oven is shut off. The noise is so loud, it cannot be talked over. The touch pads scratch terribly, and the self cleaning feature does not work. These appliances are less than two years old, and without a doubt the poorest quality appliances I've ever owned. We will be replacing these appliances, rather than paying exorbitant repair costs, knowing that it will only be a matter of time before they break again.

I will not spend any time writing to the CEO, I will retain an attorney and file a lawsuit, or have the appliances removed and sent to the home of the CEO. And while most Americans might prefer to purchase goods that are manufactured by American workers, these kind of quality issues send us to the doors of foreign manufacturers. I wonder what the CEO's bonus was last year.

There will be at least a $400.00 repair bill for the micro-wave and dishwasher. Plus my 82-year old mother has to climb stairs to use the microwave.

When we remodeled our kitchen, 3 years ago, we were excited about our new Jenn Aire wall oven/microwave, dishwasher, and cooktop. The oven door didn't close enough for the light to turn off so we called the repairman. He replaced the gasket, but the problem still existed. Called another repairman who jerry-rigged the door so at least the light goes off. The door still doesn't shut completely. The first time I used the self clean feature, the oven door discolored and so did the frame of the microwave. The self cleaning feature is a joke too. The repairman told me to clean it with the new oven cleaner made for self cleaning ovens. If I wanted to do that, I would have kept the old oven!!

The cooktop knobs melt when large pots are used...replaced them twice now and they are not cheap.

A letter to JennAire was not even answered! So much for quality and customer service. I have purchased my last Jenn Aire products, and have told all my friends about my experiences. Three of them wanted to purchase JennAire products but changed their minds.

I purchased a Jenn Aire oven four years ago. When it was installed, the door did not shut tight but I assumed that because this was an expensive appliance, it was supposed to be that way. A year later, I called a repair shop and learned it was defective. A complaint to Jenn Aire produced an unsympathetic letter. After three years, it began giving me a F1 error code and shutting off. Another very expensive repair.

Late September 2006 we finally realised our dream and our holiday home became our permanent home; completed in Sept. 05 we purchased 'top of the range' side by side refrigerator, $6500; double oven range, $5000; dishwasher and microwave. To date the expensive refrigerator has had 4 no cool problems. The first call out was when we were back in England as we could not get a service call whilst we were in the country (for a month); the service guy said 'theres nothing wrong with your refrigerator'. Upon our return a few months later? Still a problem; yet another call out. We have had what they call 4 no cool situations with this very expensive refrigerator and due to our non residence in this country the warranty has now expired. The freezer finally died Jan 07. The tech said he has rebuilt the thing and can do no more. Jennair are refusing to replace saying that its not excessive service. We explained that as we have not been in residence it is excessive for a brand new product which cost $6500. The store where we purchased all the Jennair prodcuts basically do not care and just keep telling us to contact Jennair. I now have a refrigerator on loan situated in the garage. I have lost two complete freezer loads of food and guess what? The front door hinge has just gone on the range. These products have had no wear and tear to speak of as the home has been a holiday home, now we are actually using them they are falling apart. The customer service with Jennair/Maytag is non existent. My advice DO NOT PURCHASE JENNAIR PRODUCTS.

My husband and I emigrated to the USA Sept 06 hoping to start a wonderful new life in a country we adore. Our dream home was waiting. This experience has been very upsetting and Im astonished that a country known for its service has been so badly let down by Jennair/maytag. Not a good impression for foreigners arriving here. I find it astonishing that they are allowed to continue treating customers this way. Are there any consumer protection laws in this country if so can you advise? We are not a wealthy couple and cannot afford to replace this jennair junk.

I don't have enough time to go into everything so I will keep it brief I purchased a Jenn-aire Range model #JGS8850 in Jan.03 and the electronics have gone three times. The last time was in March 06 and 8 months later the same part went. I have a 5 year warranty, parts only. The last time the serviceman came he was told by me that he had to call the tech-line which he did and they informed him that I was more than likely cleaning the front of the oven improperly. I told him that was not the case and he told the serviceman to then continue we the replacement and that he was done.

I asked to speak with the tech-person and was told that wasn't possible. After the part blowing out for the third time I was expecting someone to get to the bottom of the problem, well I guess I wasn't expecting anyone to get to the bottom of the problem but I was hoping.Without anyone really addressing the problem and the part just being replaced I am realistically expecting the part to blow out within the next year and if it happens after Jan.07 I will then be responsible for parts and labour and oh yeah a service call I am looking forward to a bill for over 700.00 dollars. I hate to sound pessimistic but after 3.5 years and 3 replacements the proof is in the pudding which I am unable to cook.

This Jenn-Air stove has been repaired at least 3-times, and continues to fail in strange ways. Stove is one year past warranty, so we have no direct recourse with Jenn-Air.

Repairman damaged much of the sheet metal venting under the stove, and created a gas-leak in the supply pipe. Luckily we discovered this and replaced the gas-pipe ourselves.

I telephoned them on 11/13/06 and reported that the hinges on the lower oven were broken. I had scheduled the service call for 11/21/06. Before confirming the date, I specifically asked if the parts were in stock. I was told they were. (I asked about this because I had the same problem with the upper oven, and Maytag took over 3 months to repair the upper oven. Once, the evening before they were to come out and make the repari, they left a message on my phone mail stating that the part was back ordered.)

On 11/20/06, at 4:30 PM, I was telephoned and ws told that the parts were in and that I needed to make an appointment for the service call. I informed them that I already had an appointment for the next day. The Maytag representative informed me that they did see in their notes that the appointment was indeed for the next day, but I had to reschedule because the part just arrived.

It broke again (same element) in March (replaced switch), July (replaced switch), and October 7. Each time a repairman was sent to fix it.

We are still waiting for it to be fixed because now Jenn Air wants to try to replace the switch and replace the dual element burner. We have constantly complained to both Jenn Air and Home Expo. I can't afford to pay for the same type of repair every 4-6 months with no garantees that it will ever end. I'm so frustrated I could scream!!!!

We purchased a Jennaire ceramic electric cooktop in 8/05. Just 1 month later on 9/9/05, the unit was making a rattling noise. Maytag sent a service technician out, he said a wire had come loose and was hitting the coolant fan blades. Repair down, with a little improvement in noise, but not gone completely. On 2/13/06 the rattle became very loud. Tech. said coolant fan motor needed to be replaced. Service technician put in new fan motor on 3/2/06, and unit rattled like it did the very 1st time. Technician said that was normal.

The next day, 3/3/06, 1st time cooktop was used since repaired, I smelled a very strong smoke odor. Called service dept. and they said it was probably just the new motor and smell would go away after 2 days. If not, call and they would have someone look at it. That same evening, I was using the cooktop, and the odor was even stronger. A few minutes later smoke began to roll out of the drawer directly under the cooktop. We opend the drawer, saw flames, and immediately hit the off button on the control panel. The flame went out, but we could not tell what damage had occurred inside the unit. No damage occurred to drawer because we opened it just in time.

Service tech came out on 3/6. Took out cooling fan motor, showed me where it had actually burned. He also wrote on the invoice repair that, new cooling fan motor burned up, all wiring looks good, no visable signs of bad wires. Naturally, I complained and was referred to the Maytag corporate office. I requested a new unit based on the fact that I didn't think the unit was safe and that we starting having problems with it after only 1 month. They claimed the technician told them that 2 wires needed replaced due to damage and that there was not a fire.

Both my husband and I saw flames, not a "spark" which corporate kept trying to claim. The technician also could not tell me what had happened. He said he was not familiar with these fan motors because up until a year ago, the cooktops never had a coolant fan motor in them. It was something new. I feel like the service dept. and maytag have some kind of agreement going on to cover themselves so they don't have to replace a bad appliance. It was obvious that I was being lied to. Needless to say, they refused to give me a new cooktop, and a 3rd fan motor will be installed soon. I am not at all satisfied with this, but what else can I do.

Ran to cellar and turned off circuit breaker. Fire self-extinguished. Opened top of range and found yellow wire attached to rear bottom oven door lock switch charred and its switch connector had melted out of the switch. Insulators above and below the switch had also been damaged by the heat. Schematic indicates switch as Relay R-1. Found description of same problem at www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/jennaire (5/20/03) and report states that Jenn-Air had changed design of (replacement) part. We bought our stove in aug 2003. Used it very little as I don't cook much. In Sept 2004 I stopped cooking completely because I became pregnant with multiples and was on complete bed rest. The next time we used the stove was the summer of 2005 and it didn't work. Still under factory warranty. Jenn Air came and tried to fix the range (replace the control board), but they forgot to fix the ignition (the thing that lights the gas oven) and they had to come back.

The repair man said I was luck that we didn't blow up our house. After that it's been compltely downhill. Jenn air has tried repeatly to fix the oven and it still doesn't work. Like I said before I don't cook so I always find out it's not working when I need it most -- holidays & parties. They have changed every part in the oven at least once. When I called in Dec the girl in the customer service asked that we let them try to fix it one more time and if they can't they would replace the range, so I gave them a chance.

In Jan they replaced the only original part left on the range and guess what -- it still doesn't work. We went on vacation for 2 weeks in Feb. Came home and a few days later the thing stared beeping. I called Maytag-Home Depot dept and spoke to a man that basically said too bad and maybe after they fix it another 6-12 times thay might replace it. He said he was a supervisor and they are not in the business of giving people new appliances and I should have bought the extended waranty and then they would have replaced it.

Needless to say I was furious and hung up. Well we woke up yesterday to a house filled with gas. The oven is trying to turn itself on but it never lights. Thank God I noticed right away, opened up the windows & my husband shut off the gas & the electric. My mother & father live with me and both of them smoke. I have 3 babies. If they would have gone near my kitchen mY whole family would be gone

No matter what one did, i.e. put in a temperature and hit cancel, unplugged the unit for 5 minutes and reset clock, or whatever, it never worked.

Three weeks ago after nearly a month in trying to get someone out under the wonderful warranty, someone showed up and confirmed the clock mechanism was faulty and needed to be replaced. It's now another 2 1/2 weeks waiting for the part and no one has showed up. When I complained to Maytag Dependability Service they said I would have to make another appointment and basically go the end of the line and wait my turn for another repairman to install the unit (apparently they have one guy who serves Oregon, Washington and Idaho, and he has a hard time getting over to Seattle when it snows in the Cascades!

I'll let you all know if this clock mechanism ($197 part) gets fixed this time or not. I would warn anybody considering buying a new GE, Bosch, or Jenn-Air applicance to think twice since they are serviced by the same company, Maytag Undependability Service, headquartered somewhere in Illinois. These people, apparently care about nothing in terms of prompt customer service (worse than Sears!) and will leave you hanging for months. Might be better to go out for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner than gambling your range will work when you need it.

Thoroughly disgusted with the service and because of it would never recommend Jenn-Air to anybody. If this company cared about their warranty they would do something about it but obviously, if they can wear you down they probably think you'll pay to have their cheezy products repaired by a local service guy.

I purchased a dishwasher, gas stove top, and a double wall oven. The doors on the wall oven have now fallen off, twice. I called Maytag and had to talk to a supervisor before they would pay for parts and labor since my warranty was out for several months.

The oven door fell off once again in my husbands hand last Thursday night, only 6 months after it was replaced. I called again and told my story to nine (9) people of whom, none apologized for what happened. I explain over and over that I should not have to pay parts and labor for a "design flaw" on their oven that makes it unsafe to use.

We splurged on only one thing when we built our home last year(2005) - a Jenn-Aire range and stove top.

The counter top is gas and it takes forever to cook something as the downward draft fan takes most of the heat away. It is impossible to simmer anything as it blows out the gas at low heat. The oven, which is electric, has cold spots when not used on convection bake. It does not regulate to the proper temperature. We always have to use an oven thermator.

We've had a service nam here twice, once to regulate the grill and once to try to regulate the burners. The burners still do not work well. We had an all electric Jenn-Aire in the 80's and loved it.

Last year we completely remodeled our home and bought a Jenn-Air french-door refrigerator and 36" convection/gas range, and a new Maytag Drying Center and washer. In less than 12 months we have had problems with each and every one of the appliances we bought. This week, our refrigerator went out. Just doesn't get cold. I called on Monday and was told that someone would be out the next day -- between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. I rearranged schedules and waited. No one showed, nor did anyone call to say they weren't going to make it.

This morning, I called to see what happened and was 1) blatantly lied to that someone came yesterday but no one answered the door and 2) was told that it would be a week before they could get someone out to look at our 'fridge. This does not sit well with me, since my experience is that when their repairmen show up, they never have the part that's needed, and it takes approximately two weeks for them to receive it and reschedule you to install it. In all, we spent more than $10,000 on our appliances (including a Fisher/Paykel dishwasher, which works fabulously) and have been nothing but disappointed and discouraged by their performance.

My husband is a builder and has pledged never to buy another appliance from any of the Maytag/Jenn-Air/Amana and related companies ever again.

We then noticed that the lower oven fan is much louder than the upper oven fan.

We made several calls to Maytag because it is a rather annoying sound. We were told by several people at Maytag that this wasn't normal but that they were not repair people and they could only replace the ovens if the repair people said that it was abnormal. The repair folks have been 2-3 times replacing the fan but say that the noise is normal.

I called Maytag back, spoke with someone in charge. They said that the bottom oven should not be louder than the top oven, but that they can only replace if the service engineers say it is abnormal, so we are out of luck.

I bought a Maytag refrigerator, Jenn-Air double convection oven, and Jenn-Air gas cooktop in 2001, all of which have broken down at least once. One of them is still broken after repeated attempts at service and a request for its replacement. The double ovens went out first in 2002. They were repaired, only to find out when making Christmas dinner three months later that the repair was not done properly. The company wanted to charge me because the part ran out of warranty in 90 days.

The cooktop was the next breakdown, but because I could not get to the serial and model numbers, which are placed below the cooktop and the farthest away from any opening underneath, Jenn-Air refused to send factory service. Another company advertized in the Yellow Pages that they were Maytag "factory authorized" repairers, so I called them. They sent for a new igniter, but that was defective, and they could not fix the cooktop.

I even wrote to the president of the company. The first response was that the repairman was not factory authorized. Then someone from his office contacted me and said that the company would replace the defective cooktop. When I did not hear anything more from them in several weeks, I called and was told that the person had left and had left no such order behind. They said to go back through their service department.

The next thing to break down was my Maytag refrigerator (they make Jenn-Air) and that cost $200.00 to repair. The refrigerator was less than four years old. I'm still trying to have the cooktop repaired, and as I write the repairman has not kept his appointment, which was supposed to be sometime between 7:00am to 6:00pm today!
