I purchased a new Jenn-Air in December, 2013. I discovered that only one burner on the cooktop had a temperature setting of Low. The other three burners only adjust to Medium, which is too hot for simmering sauces, caramelizing onions, etc. Jenn-Air responded that I should have had better consumer information before purchasing the stove. It never occurred to me to ask a question about burner temperatures, as I took it for granted that all burners would have a full temperature range. This is a very expensive stove, and it is not designed for anyone who cooks more than one thing at a time.

Called for repairs on a dripping water spigot in fridge. Technician was a nice, hard-working guy. After two hours, he thought he had fixed it and just gave it a last minute test. The thing was still dripping, so he said he had to order more parts. The rest has been tragicomedy. Nice, hard-working guy disappeared, and Jenn-Air keeps saying its computers are down. Weird.

On 1/13/14 I called Jenn-Air customer service because the downdraft switch on my stove, Model # JES9800CAS, had stopped working. The level of service was unsatisfactory. I escalated to the agent's supervisor, whose response (attached) was essentially your lack of knowledge of our products is your problem. Even more maddening, was the fact that the supervisor, in her response, displayed an advanced level of knowledge of the product. So, clearly the problem is not a lack of information, but an apparent unwillingness to share it with customers.
I understand that you may have business reasons for wanting to encourage customers to contact local service agents. But, for something as apparently simple as a replacement switch, and with such an unhelpful and argumentative Jenn-Air- branded service department, such a policy does your business no favors. What I expected, and found at Sears (see attached transcript), was someone at least willing to help, and so I ordered from them. One wonders why you have a service department.
I am deeply disappointed with the Jenn-Air level of service, to the point that I doubt I will ever purchase another Jenn-Air product, nor recommend that anyone else do so, and in fact I'll actively discourage everyone I know from using the brand. And to be clear, my dissatisfaction came about not from your broken product, but your broken customer service.

I am in the process of purchasing a new range. My former gas range was a Jenn-Air. The top has broken twice. I called the first time and you said I would have to pay for the new top which I did. The second top cracked shortly thereafter. I will NEVER purchase another one as the tops cost $500.00.

The clamp on the company installed water hose to the motor failed. The bulletin Jenn-Air issued in October 2012 about the part, and the kit they sent to repair companies, never reached the owners of this model so we never had a chance to replace it and avoid all of this damage. The clamp was replaced by a repair man their company sent from A&E Factory Repair since it was still under warranty. He took the faulty part with him. He did leave a cash register type receipt with the amount owed as zero since it was still in warranty. I have no idea if I threw it out since I had not found all of the damage or if I just misplaced it but whatever the reason I do not have it. Several times I have requested a copy from the company which was supposed to be mailed to me. I have not yet received it.
At this point we were only aware of a bad smell in our room downstairs. By that evening it was so bad we realized it had to be serious. We looked behind a tall dresser with a tall TV on top of it and found the damage to the wall and understood why the carpet was so wet! The water ran down a wall to the downstairs bedroom, flooded the carpet, and ruined two walls and the carpet. Black mold had grown on the 2x4, the wallboard, and along the edges of the carpet at the base of the walls. We contacted Jenn-Air and were told to contact our homeowner's insurance. We did.
We also informed them we had the information on the replacement kit Jenn-Air had issued for the part. A portion of the ceiling and wall had to be torn down, and the bottom of the wall board beside that wall had to be cut off as well. The room was sprayed with chemicals to kill the mold. The padding under the carpet was cut out. We had to dry out the water. This required the use of dehumidifiers and industrial blowers in both the bedroom and the kitchen. The water seeped under the backer board and the tile in the kitchen. After using dehumidifiers and blowers, it still would not dry. After this failed to dry out the sub floor, the tile was pulled up along with the backer board in front of the dishwasher so the sub floor would dry. USAA sent out a company called Max Care to do the repairs so I have no estimates to give to them. The walls and ceiling in my bedroom need to be replaced and textured, the room painted, and the carpet in the bedroom replaced. All of the tile in the kitchen area will have to be replaced.
I have tried to reach the CEO but of course his secretary is very protective and will not let me speak with him so I can ask why this company treats its customers so poorly! Here is his info. Maybe if we all try, they will get the message!

The first time I used the !8,000 BTU burner to boil water, the glass top shattered. It was replaced under warranty. After several years, the igniters began to fail and trip the circuit breaker. Now, having paid $129 to get service to show up I'm told it would cost $450 more to replace 3 igniters because the screws fastening them to the chassis had rusted from moisture and needed to be drilled out. It surprises me that Jenn-Air uses screws that rust in a product that should withstand occasional spills. Seems like a design defect. The repair man suggested that I use matches to ignite my high end cooktop. I emailed Jenn-Air. Their response - a form letter about how concerned they are about customer relations which included no hint of interest in my problem. I emailed back. No response.

One of the motivations for purchasing over $20k worth of Jenn-Air appliances was a rebate to reimburse installation charges. I filled out the rebate form, provided proof of purchase, serial #s, and made absolutely sure I included the separate invoice for installation. I later received an automatically generated post card from Jenn-Air stating that my submission is invalid because it didn't include a receipt for installation charges. I called them to straighten the situation out and the customer service agent literally just kept repeating over and over and over that I need to submit the receipt. To make matters worse, I have 2 weeks to get it to them (via mail) and have it processed prior to rebate deadline. During the 2-week time frame we have weather, Christmas and New Years to deal with. What a scam. No wonder Jenn-Air has fallen out of favor in recent decades. Why run a marketing campaign to lure customers and then piss them off? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

In April 2007, I purchased a Jenn-Air Dual-Fuel Double Oven Range, Model JDR8895AAS. I had bought insurance for this oven from a local appliance repair business in 2007, and as of 8 Dec 2013 (6 years, 8 months of ownership), this product has required servicing 4 times?! First problem - control panel inoperable ('fried'); repairman stated it was due to my using the 'heavy' self cleaning mode - heat fried panel (but Jenn-Air does not advise customers of this). Repairman advised use no more than 'medium' cleaning cycle (I did so). Second problem - convection fan in lower oven won't shut off? Same repairman showed up, replaced fan - no idea why fan failed?
Third problem - Now lower oven will not work in convection mode - same repairman arrived - replaced control panel Again?! Fourth problem - lower oven thermostat failed during baking bread. Six months prior to this fourth problem, I refused to renew insurance (premium increase of 100%,) I suspected a QA issue at this point - fourth problem confirmed it. Average oven life is 10-12 years, and this 'excellent' product had issues after 3 years, and 4 issues in 6.66 years??!! Calling Jenn-Air gets nothing other than recommendations to spend more money. Jenn-Air was purchased by Maytag - IMO Maytag SU***. Horrible product - I will not buy this product again, nor waste time dealing with Jenn-Air 'customer service.'

Bought a top of the line appliance, a fancy microwave oven and oven. Paid top dollar. It turned out to be junk. Had 3 service calls in the first year, then in the 14th month, it was the same thing again. For 2 months, their technicians came and left with no result. We haven't used our appliances for the last 2 months and Jenn-Air doesn't give a damn to their top clients. Word of advice - DO NOT BUY Jenn-Air junk, no matter how fancy it is. I will keep you all updated with my further updates in case they decide to fix their problems.

We bought a Jenn-Air slide in range in May of 2009. Since purchased, we've had the repairman work on it 5 times for the same part; an infinite switch. Each time I paid a service call of over $175. The last time, I called the Jenn-Air customer service and told them about the problem. He (Bryant), told me there's nothing they could do for me. I asked him who would be the next person to talk to. He refused to give me a name and told me he didn't have a phone number for me. Ridiculous!! A billion dollar company? Never again will I even think of purchasing this product line. I will keep trying. If anyone has any information that would help me, I would appreciate it.

We purchased a Jenn-Air Electric Range 9 years ago for $1200 and the clock never worked and now the touch pad does not work. If I want to bake something, it has to be at 100 degrees because the touch pad no longer works and CAN NOT BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. What does that mean? What kind of a company makes an appliance but does not have the parts to replace when they die? From the reviews I have read, this is common with Jenn-Air. No part available which means I need to buy a new range if I am ever to cook again. Doesn't Maytag stand behind their products? All the customer service dept could tell us is that they were sorry! That is unacceptable! Be warned! I will never buy another Jenn-Air product.

I purchased a dishwasher, stove, and microwave in late September. The microwave was delivered damaged with both sides of the unit damaged. I refused to accept the delivery and it had to be replaced. The stove was acceptable when it was delivered. The dishwasher was delivered and had a leak. Jenn-Air, nor HHGregg, were willing to replace it. The technician indicates he "thinks he has it repaired". I am concerned about a leak damaging my wood floors. Jenn-Air refuses to discuss replacement of the "defective dishwasher". They are consistent from the initial contact all the way through their organization to President Jeff Fettig in that they hold the party line of "it has been repaired". They indicate they will not be responsible if a leak occurs and damages the wood floor.

I purchased a Jenn-Air downdraft range (SVE47600B) in 1998, along w/ assorted accessories (grill, griddle, etc.). I have had problems with it since day 1. The self-cleaning has never worked, so I've had to clean it manually! The oven alarms if it's on for very long (I can't even bake a chicken, much less a turkey!), which requires that the breaker be tripped to let the oven cool before the alarm will stop. The digital display got dimmer & dimmer, until it is now invisible. More, too, but not worth my time. These are not problems unique to me. Check FIXYA.com, or google "Jenn-Air range problem." I am now on this site to evaluate other ranges to replace it, and I hope I make a much better choice this time. The Jenn-Air is not even worth donating to Goodwill. I will never buy another Jenn-Air again and just wanted to warn others!

We remodeled our kitchen 3 years ago and purchased 5 new Jenn-Air appliances. Since purchasing these appliances the fridge has been serviced 3 times for water leaking onto the floor, microwave replaced and the replacement microwave stopped working in year 2, oven door lock broke, screw was lodged between the sealed glass door and element was not attached properly. So disappointed, and Jenn-Air has not helped us at all. Was told I should have bought extended warranties. I am telling all I know, don't buy Jenn-Air.

We put in a completely new kitchen from the floor up in 2008, and purchased a trio of Jenn-Air appliances: dishwasher, side-by-side refrigerator, and dual-fuel range. One year later, I engaged the self-cleaning function for the ovens, and after finishing, it kept the doors in "locked" mode. The repairman had to replace the p/c board, but it was under the one-year warranty, so it didn't cost us anything. One month ago, I again engaged the self-cleaning function and the same thing happened. Only, this time, I was advised that (a) it is a couple of months past the 5-yr. warranty, and (2) since we were running a small B&B, it voided the warranty which declares coverage is limited to a "single-family" household. And now (b) the part is going to cost over $450 AND is out of stock until November! So, we have no ovens to use at all.
As if that weren't enough, the refrigerator has been buzzing a lot during the past few weeks and this morning, the freezer side was completely defrosted. This cost us several hundred dollars in spoiled food. Since we had already decided to sell our house, what do we do now with two non-functioning appliances??? I called Jenn-Air and was told that customers have their perspective and the corporation has theirs, and the two don't match. So, I wrote Jenn-Air a strongly-worded letter explaining the problem in its entirety. They called to tell me exactly the same thing their other representative had said.
We are extremely disappointed and upset with Jenn-Air, and I've written a new letter, this time sent to the CEO of the Whirlpool Corp., since they own Jenn-Air. The importing of this substandard, cheap Chinese crap has to stop! Remember the ads for the lonely Maytag repairman who waited for eons between service calls? Wouldn't that be nice! Consumers, we need to gang up on these bloated corporations and hold them accountable!

Purchased the appliance on 4/15/2007 for around $2K. In a little over 3 years, in September 2010, the control panel quit working. Jenn-Air was contacted and they provided me with the name of an authorized repair company who came by and checked out the appliance only to determine it needed a complete new control panel assembly. The repairman quoted me around $1k to replace it. However when I advised him that it should be covered under the five year warranty, a new part was ordered and shipped directly to me at no charge. I installed it myself. It was very simple and easy to do.
However, in less than two years, but just after the five year warranty expired, the control panel quit working again. On 8/10/2012 I contacted Jenn-Air again, but this time they just simply apologized and said they were sorry. They obviously have a design problem with their control panels, because there are numerous complaints posted on line about this same issue.
I designed our kitchen with the cooktop in the center island because of Jenn-Air's downdraft and I am, therefore, stuck with it because no one else makes one. Before I buy another Jenn-Air product, I will completely redesign and remodel my kitchen again. I will never purchase another Jenn-Air product again and I guess that applies to Whirlpool too, since I have been informed they manufacture all the Jenn-Air products. I advise everyone to check out all the complaints about Jenn-Air downdraft before you buy one. Buyers beware.

We built our home in 2000 and we decided to purchase a $2800 Jenn-Air convection oven, after a few years of mild use, the key pad died, then the convection. We used it this way not using the oven for a few years (yeah we did not cook). We bought a 2nd one around 2008 for again $2600, we had upgraded to stainless steel and redid the kitchen. Well about a year after we purchased it, the convection started having issues. It only had problems once and a while.
At year 3 when our cooktop cracked, we noticed the door of the oven was getting moisture inside the glass. Then we noticed a spider climbing inside, we called to have service done before the warranty ran out. The repair man came as a "certified tech" from Jenn-Air, he was rude, tracked mud into our home and said he could not verify how the top broke and we would have to pay for the top ourselves. We have now purchased two pieces of junk that have not lasted 13 years between the two. Don't ever buy a Jenn-Air product, they are expensive to repair and when you Google Jenn-Air issues, many have had the same issue as us.

We purchased a Jenn-Air range in November 2007. Within a year the touch pad quit working. It was replaced under warranty by the company we purchased it from. A year and a half later it went out again at a cost of $225. Now it’s out again and this time the repair cost is about $450. Called Jenn-Air and they basically said tough luck, the unit is out of warranty and we will have to pay for the repair. So now we are stuck with a $2,000 range that the touch pad goes out every two years. I won't ever buy another Jenn-Air appliance.

We have also experienced problems with the computer touch pad. We are on our third one and are experiencing problems with the numbers not working. The first went out just before our warranty was over. They came and fixed it. We bought the third one and then bought the extended warranty. Pretty sad commentary, when a stove should last a lifetime or at least 1/2 a lifetime. They go to computers to make it work and they break. We have been happy with everything else. We have the following appliances Jenn-Air dishwasher model # JDB1100AWS, Range model # JES8860CCS01 and fridge model # JFC2290VEM3. First the dish washer. Purchased in 2004 we started having issues in 2008 (ok 4 years I understand there could be the chance of problems occurring but from a supposedly quality expensive washer??). The dishwasher started to leak. After 6 visits and "repairs" the dishwasher is still leaking. On one visit the wash pump was cleaned and then the technician had to come back again to replace it, another service charge and the cost of a new pump.
After a month the dishwasher started to leak again and is still leaking. Now the control panel is not functioning properly. The technician returned to tell us it would be better to buy a new dishwasher vs. repairing it. Total parts and labour for these visits $617.42. Now the range. Purchased in Sept 2010, in Feb 2013 the control panel failed. Technician replaced control panel (under warranty) service charge $124.24 (hmm we thought this was supposed to be $81; I think we got hosed). Two months later the control panel starts to act up again, not a complete failure like before but little issues, i.e., can't use enter button on some features. Still waiting to see what can be done.
Now the fridge. Purchased in Sept 2010. In August of 2013 it started to leak at the front. Technician repairs a small rubber part. The technician forgot to reattach the internal plugs so the fridge did not work at all, yet again another dispatch (they came fairly quickly though and fixed the problem but in the meantime another 24 hours before we can use the fridge). I called the Customer Services Supervisor at Jenn-Air Canada and all they offered was a dispatch number to fix the appliances and then they want to talk to the technician. Well we have had three or four different technicians from different companies with no permanent resolution to our appliance issues.
There is no offer of compensation in any way and we were told we would have to pay another service charge to have the technician come back and fix the problem with the range controller. You would think when you buy Jenn-Air you're buying quality but I suppose it's buyer beware. In fairness, Jenn-air did honor the warranties though some are fairly limited. I am just relating my nightmare experiences with these products. Total for all parts and labour $833 and there is no compensation from Jenn-Air. In fact all they are doing is the bare minimum we are entitled too anyways. I am not making recommendations one way or the other, that is up to you to do your own research.

I have one of the double ranges that they had designed several years ago and had a copyright on it. Since I purchased it about 5 years ago, we have had nothing but problems. The gas burners stopped igniting within the first year. The computer pad always gave us problems and numbers stopped working (3, 7 and 5). We started using auto bake to get around this. Then the entire panel went about 2 years ago. The clock worked for a while, but now nothing. We only use the burners and cook in a mini oven.
I am thinking of fixing it because I have a get together coming up, but not sure if worth the money. This was considered top of the line and we paid $2,000 for this on sale. Not a product or brand I would purchase again. I will update after we fix it. As I was writing this, I found their brand promise: Uncompromising performance. Uncompromising design. I bought a brand new Jenn Air slide-in electric range from an authorized Jenn Air dealer ($1,999.00). The range was delivered on February 15th, 2013. I don't do a ton of cooking so I hadn't used this range all that much (the oven twice and the cooktop itself twice). So, on the evening of February 25th, I was making pasta and sauce using two of the surface elements. As I was heating the sauce and boiling the water, suddenly a bright flash appeared under the cooktop - similar to that which would be created by an electric arc. A few seconds later, a number of similar flashes appeared under the cooktop and the range went dark.
Since it was later in the evening, I wasn't able to contact the dealer until the next day, Tuesday. I called and told them what had happened and they asked me if I wanted to speak with the service department. I told them no; I wanted to speak with the salesman and I didn't want the unit "repaired." I wanted it replaced. The woman I spoke with was nice enough, but she said they would not be able to replace this unit - it would have to be serviced. The salesman was not available so I left a voice mail message and sent him an email. In the meantime, I called Jenn Air Customer Care,1-800-JENN-AIR (536-6247), and spoke with a representative. I told her what had happened and she said Jenn Air would not replace the unit, but would have the dealer send someone out to examine the range and identify a repair option.
I told the Jenn Air rep I didn't want the unit, which had been in my house a total of 9 days when it went dead, repaired. I wanted it replaced. I spent $2,000 on this range and I shouldn't have to be stuck with a "repaired" Jenn Air product. The rep told me that was Jenn Air's policy. Later Tuesday, the dealer called and arranged for a serviceman to come out to examine the range. He came on Friday (March 1st). I explained what had happened and he examined the unit. I told him I wanted a new range to replace this defective unit and he agreed that if it were him, he would have the exact same position. However, he said the dealer really had no say in how the problem was resolved and Jenn Air policy was to only "repair" defective units.
The range now has to have a new user interface, new board, new cooktop and new electrical wiring harness replaced as there was in fact electrical arcing under the Ceran surface. In the meantime, I'm without a range and have no idea when the situation is going to be resolved. I've contacted my credit card company to dispute the two-thousand-dollar charge and they agreed that I should not have to be stuck with a defective new range. They have filed a dispute with the dealer and credited my account the $2,000.
As a contrast, I have an LG washer and dryer pair I purchased at Home Depot. The washer went on the fritz a couple of weeks after it was delivered. Long story short, Home Depot replaced the washer with a new one. Hmm, does anyone see a reason why American industry is struggling? So a word of caution to anyone considering the purchase of any Jenn Air appliance - don't! If anything major goes wrong with your new Jenn Air product, you're going to be stuck with a repaired unit.

We remodeled our kitchen in 2009 and installed a Jenn-Air gas cooktop. I’ve been married 42 years, lived in six homes, and this is the very worst appliance we have ever had anywhere including a home in a third world country. With the latest repairs, we will have spent more on repairs than the cooktop cost now three years ago. Of course, other than the knobs that lost their finish almost immediately, the other problems began exactly one day after the warranty expired. These are not small problems. The burners turn themselves on and since it is a gas device, we must unplug it, requiring us to remove heavy drawers from cabinetry to get to the plug, not easy for people in their 70's. We are hoping the new part our repairman is to install Monday will at least solve that problem, but I will do everything in my power to save others from buying this defective product.

Yes, it has failed again, so this time I phoned Jenn-Air. Their response was that they would compensate me 25% on the part, nothing for labor. Why don't they care that the same part keeps failing? The plastic face plate control panel off touch control burnt through. Now, I have to put a small wood dowel through it to shut off the stove. I have a warranty. The Jenn-Air stove gas and electric model SVD 48600P was originally over $1,600 and was purchased approximately 2001. A repair guy came over 2 months ago. He said he would get back to me with making arrangements to replace the part. I never heard from him. Today, I called the warranty department and was told how glad they were that I called. They said that the part is no longer made, and I will be getting a cash out value of less than 1/3 of the original price.
It makes me angry that there was never any follow up by them. I still see a similar model in the stores. I bought a new Jenn-Air gas grill model 720-0336B. This was an end of season floor model from the retailer. I spoke to the store manager and made a deal with him considering it was end of season and he wanted to get rid of the seasonal stuff. It was in brand new, perfect shape and I got a great price. I felt good until I got it home and hooked it to the gas tank. Electronic lighter worked twice then died. Then the left burner would not shut the gas off when lit. The rest was fine. No problem, I pulled out the manual and warranty, and called for warranty service. Bad news... This grill is made by Nexgrill. I had one before and it was junk, parts are cheap and service is poor. I had to rebuild it almost every year!
Well, I called, got a nice person on the phone. He took all of my information and I emailed him the receipt and serial number. He also said this is an older grill model and now discontinued. This would explain the good deal I got. Well, he called back and really nice said they would not warrant the grill. He said that because I negotiated such a good deal, they consider that it was broken or used. He said that he would be happy to sell me parts, for a 2-day-old grill? I offered to send a picture of the perfect grill, never cooked on. There was only a small 2-inch scratch on the top. Nope, no luck. I asked for a supervisor. She called and said, "Too bad, you are stuck" with this new, never used grill. She said they must have known there was a problem with the grill and they entered the serial number in their computer to ensure it would never receive any manufacturer support because I paid too little for it?! I'm not sure how they would know the valve didn't work or that the electronic starter will work then stop working.
Wow! What poor (wrong word, non-existent, terrible) customer service and support. I am stunned that Jenn-Air would allow this company to put their name on their product. But then Jenn-Air is no longer known for the quality they once were. I was demonized for negotiating a great deal on an end of season store display unit. I wonder what the assembled units at Lowe's are considered? Aren't they all store displays? I will check to see if the retailer will support me on this matter. This really leaves me wondering what a warranty really is worth. My lesson learned here: Listen to what all of my friends have been saying - buy a Weber!

When I first moved into my house, it had a Jenn-Air stove. It worked more or less fine, but the main issue was that it was clear that whoever designed it was never forced to cook on it. It was awful to clean, and the clever do dads (plug out stovetop for a grill top) were all too clever by half, and not particularly useful. I was thankful that I got rid of that piece of junk. Fast forward to my new kitchen, I swore never to get a Jenn-Air stove, but was talked into buying a Jenn-Air refrigerator. It never worked properly. It has been repaired three times, and right now, the icemaker just broke. The doors really don't close properly unless you actually remember to push them closed. (I mean, close the door, and then as a second step push on it.) So it uses way more electricity than it should. It is just a piece of junk. I cannot imagine how a company can have such shoddy engineering, and still stay in business.

I purchased all new appliances for my new home. I bought Jenn-Air appliances. Well, I bought a wall oven/microwave combo Model #: JMW9527DAS that cost $2,300 and it was installed last July 2009. I even purchased the extended warranty just to protect myself or a while longer. In 2012, after cooking a roast one Sunday, I noticed spider cracks all over the interior of the oven. When I called the repair company out to see what had happened to the interior of the oven, they told me that the oven weld assembly (which is the interior of the oven) was cracked and they would have to order the parts.
They called into their office and then they told me the parts were not covered. I said, "Okay then, order the parts and I will pay for them." I was then told the parts were discontinued. I contacted Jenn-Air which told me to contact the repair company. I explained that I had already done that. They said there was nothing that they could do for me. So I am left with a $2,300 wall oven that is useless. I have even searched the Internet for the parts. All I find is that it is no longer available. I will never purchase another Jenn-Air appliance again.

The grill on my 1.5 year old Jenn-Air stove melted when left on 3/4 temperature for 34 minutes. I have owned Jenn-Air stove+grills for 19 years and this is my 4th one. I never had a grill melted at any temperature over any time period. The new style grill is flawed and will melt, fusing with the heat element and leaving a puddle of molten metal in the grease tray. Hours on chat with their support and they are willing to replace the two $115 grills for half price (but not the electric heating element that is ruined now too) but only if I get a service call for $109. That nets me $6 and is such an insult when I paid $2500 for this stove 18 months ago.
The new grill design is flawed with heating element next to or touching grill instead of inches away like it used to be. They are going to burn down someone's house. Their response was dismissal. Unlike the other person here who had their grill melt, no foil was involved, just a hot dog. Do not buy any Jenn-Air product. They don't care if they have design flaws that will burn down your house. Their quality is down the toilet from 10+ years ago. They just want to sell more $350+ flawed grill modules that will just melt again. They also told me that nobody has ever had a grill melt, which looking here and other Google search results on "Jenn-Air grill melted" is a lie.

Unfortunately, our project took months longer than expected. In all the upheaval, I did not read all the details of the rebate, as was dismayed to find they had expired. I realize it isn't Jenn-Air's responsibility to do anything about it but they really didn't have anything they were willing to help out with. I think if they didn't want to extend the cash rebate or add it to another current program, they could have at least offered an extended warranty. If they feel their products can hold up the test of time, it really would not have been a cost to them. For a major company, you would think they would want happy customers. If they were willing to give us rebates a few months ago, and they have programs now, why not offer some goodwill and make their new customers happy now? When our guests see our new appliances and consider their own purchases, it would have been an opportunity for new sales.

For those who are having persistent problems with the touch pad failing, it is not a big deal. You can open the front of the machine with a screwdriver, unplug the attachments for the clock, snap in the new unit and you are good to go. You can order the part online. It runs about $180-$200 with shipping. My appliance store is so angry at the way Jenn-Air handled this that she sells me the replacement at cost. My Jenn-air gas range was purchased in 2000. This was my third unit. The other two were great! Not this one. From the beginning, it was a piece of junk. The BTUs on the grill side could never be adjusted to give equal heat; there was insulation packed around the convection fan so that it did not run; the sparker unit on the grill side broke off twice.
The first time, the repairman told me that Jenn-Air's official fix for that was Super Glue. We tried it and when it broke off the second time, he fixed it properly. The touchpad unit goes out about every 12-18 months. When you open the oven, the sensor does not recognize the change in temperature and does not bring it back up to whatever it was set. When it was about to go off warranty, I contacted the customer service people. They looked over the records and told me that it was clear that this was a defective unit. However, I had waited too long to complain. However, they had a great solution: they would give me 30% off the cost of a new machine. I suggested that if they were not going to replace the machine that they admitted was defective, I would be satisfied with keeping the machine on permanent warranty. The supervisor laughed and told me that was a creative suggestion but it was buy the new machine or sod off. I am saving for my new machine, a Wolf or a Viking. Never another Jenn-Air.

The previous repair was July of this same year $321.12, plus damper assembly $90.74 and 4 hours of my time for installation. The previous same repair was the first year I owned the refrigerator under warranty. I have just been told that the newest drip pan part #W10199913 has been modified with a heating element that should correct the continuing problems? I also had the crisper assembly part #67002144 replaced. I was told the part costs $1250.00 and was unavailable at first, by Greg and Bethany and finally, Gloria ** (supervisor) promised to find the part. She did not. I did receive a replacement from the Corporate Office after 8 phones calls to the Customer Service Center, Research Department and finally the Corporate Office.
It was Tiasha ** at corporate who actually resolved the location of the part. Service call for the diagnosis cost $85.00, plus my time investment of 6 hours. FYI, this part is still listed as unavailable and without it, the refrigerator stops working. Probably just a $0.50 transistor or diode yet not covered by warranty and renders the entire refrigerator useless. Unbelievable! (Exhibit A). The refrigerator door shelf part #67001561 had to be replaced as the plastic, which holds the chrome retainer split. $110.00 for a plastic door shelf? I have also had both door seals parts AP4077728 and AP4076565 replaced under warranty, but that took 3 home visits between December 9, 2007 and February 21, 2008 to complete.
The microwave door switch part #AP4044474 has also been replaced on September 19, 2011 for a cost of $120.00. The oven glow plug/bar igniter part #AP4090961 was replaced on May 18, 2011 for a cost of $224.47. The clear ice maker grid cutter part #PS2056214 was replaced on November 12, 2009 for a cost of $383.63. Also, the bin thermistor on May 20, 2011 under warranty.
The dishwasher has also been serviced on February 8 and again on March 13, 2008 as it failed to drain. Picture dates should read February 8, 2008. June 13, 2007, I purchased the appliances from Direct Buy. Exhibit (B). July 9, 2007, appliances were delivered to my home during construction. Exhibit (C). July 22, 2007, they were still in my garage. Exhibit (D). October 5, 2007, installed when the remodel was completed. Exhibit (E). February 6, 2008, my first letter to Direct Buy with problems and the problems have continued ever since. Exhibit (F). I have calculated my maintenance costs to date which amount to $1745.96, which is 14.3% of the initial purchase price of $12,195.00. I cannot afford to pay 14.3% of the purchase price to keep my Jenn-Air appliances working. Additionally, there has been 13 service calls, each requiring a 4-hour window of time that requires my presence. A guesstimate of my time on the phone, on the internet checking for parts, composing this letter and personal installation time to save a few dollars conservatively totals another 15 hours.
Time is money and 67 hours is 67 hours I could have been, well you understand my theme. It's only been 4 years since I have made my purchase and at this rate with the escalating cost of parts (if available) and repairs I will be repurchasing my appliances within the next 5 years. I have recently retired and on a fixed income and can no longer continue to afford these costly repairs. Considering the amount of time, trouble and costs I have had and expect to experience with your appliances, I respectfully request that you consider offering me some financial relief for the future. It is my belief, after having read your corporate Code of Ethics, advertising materials and Whirlpool web home page underwritten by you, that what I am going to propose is fair and within your corporate power and policy.
Having checked into extended warranties offered by third party companies such as E-Warranty Center, the cost to cover my appliances for the next five (5) years bumper to bumper, all parts and labor would cost me about $1457.00. As I have explained, I have spent over that amount already. Now the freon is out again and we are being told $3000 to 4000 to repair all the guts in it to fix the leak. I called Jenn-Air and the rep basically told me tough luck. The touch-pad control panel on our Jenn-Air failed recently. The gas range is 5 years old and obtaining a replacement part from Jenn-Air was impossible. The customer service rep indicated that Jenn-Air, a Whirlpool company, no longer makes the part despite the law which requires parts to be available for nine years. I found a replacement in Fresno, CA from Marcone, a national parts distributor. The cost? $400. Add in installation and the repair was $520.00. The repairman told me that touch-pads are a common problem no matter what the brand and fixing energy efficient appliances will become more costly because the electronic controls are not fully tested before they are designed into a new product.
The touch-pad in question could have been designed to be a standalone part rather than part of the overall front panel of the range. Kitchenaid has done this and the part is $34.00. However, other components have a high failure rate and extended warranties only cover the part not the labor. Troubleshooting newer appliances is time consuming and manufacturers themselves have a difficult time understanding how something works and why components fail. The irony is that although a consumer may save money on energy, the county and state spend more money to process the discarded appliance.

Fortunately, I opted for the Sears 5-year extended warranty. The electronic panel stopped operating after about 11 months of use. Sears came out and replaced the panel. About a year after that, the panel stopped working again and Sears had to come out and replace it again. Each time, I was without a range for 2 weeks.

Before calling in for repairs, we combed the Internet and spoke with friends about possible fixes like how to reset/fix it. From talking with others who have our kind of stove and from reading postings on the Internet, it sounds like this is a common problem.
Our friends who have spent hundreds of dollars on getting theirs repaired say the service people know all about this. One said, "See you in 3 to 5 years to repair it again." My neighbors who have kindly lent their ovens are glad to know what stove not to buy. There should be a fix for this. Jenn-Air said that they would not cover as an aluminum foil is being used. Since when do you ever hear a grill melted even if with foil? I mean, we were cooking fish and it's on medium and the Melissa ** who assisted me stated that the heat capacity of the grill is 1900 watts, which is nowhere near the medium heat. Jenn-Air failed to fixed and/or recalled this defective grill. It should not be out on the market as it post danger especially to kids who might be around the kitchen area. But because of doing renovations, the cooktop was not even used for the first month. The markings are defective and the company would have done well to recognize this defect and correct the situation. I will be pursuing this with BBB. Better they had done the right thing.

How do you give zero stars? The knobs on our Jenn-Air cooktop broke consistently over the years, mainly because they are made of cheap plastic. We continued to replace them at a cost of about $20 each, till we got tired of it. Why are the knobs not made of aluminum? I don't know, ask Jenn-Air. Anyway, when we called Jenn-Air customer service, all we got was a weak "we can give you 10% off on replacement knobs". Wow! A whole $1.30 because we still would have to pay the shipping. We sent a letter to customer service, as per directive, but we received no response. I don't think Jenn-Air is a company that "gets it". I suggest not buying Jenn-Air products ever again. We won't.

I replaced an electric two burners and grill Jenn-Air downdraft 30" cook top with a gas model of the same configuration. The grill is useless and the downdraft is insufficient and the design does not pull smoke from grill top. Most of cooking smoke will end up in house. The burner side does not even boil water. I have a standing invite to Jenn-Air to come over and show me how to boil water and grill a steak at the same time. It is impossible. Jenn-Air/Whirlpool is a joke. We have called them and had so called experts out multiple times and all agree, 'yep, it doesn't work.'
Had I known better, I would have never purchased this product. The flame pattern on the grill leaves large areas without flame. Smoke is not effectively drawn down the vents (Holding a piece of tissue paper on the outer edge of the grill is not even moved by draw) on the burner side with burners turned all the way up we cannot even boil water. I contacted Jenn-Air to no avail. They do the usual 800 number wear down the customer's technique in hopes that you will wear out and disappear. After sending out teams of 'expert' installers for the past three months Jenn-Air is poo pooing it in hopes that we will go away. They say they have not ever had any complaints from anyone on this before. However, if you check the internet there are all kinds of complaints. If you want a gas, downdraft cook top, stay away from Whirlpool and Jenn-Air products. Their designers obviously don't have a clue what they're doing. And if you think they will help you, you're in for a surprise. Do not buy.

The control panel sends messages and beeps for no reason, usually in the middle of the night. The solution is to cut off power to unit. Very annoying and possible prelude to total breakdown of panel. The other parts (cooktop, grill and oven) have so far worked fine, however, not like my first two drop-ins which were great but made by Jenn-Air before it was Maytag/Whirlpool. It seems China or India are not the best possible choices for manufacturing these products.

My first glass top on downdraft gas cook top JGD8430ADS cracked due to thermal issues. Since it is under warranty, Jenn-Air tried to replace it with a second one, which came cracked out of the package. This part is so poorly manufactured. There should be a recall on it.
On discussion with their consumer specialist if I could pay the difference and get a stainless steel cook top instead (to avoid yet future and repeated repairs with glass top, which could possibly damage my granite countertop underneath), I was told no way, that I had a repair warranty, not a replacement warranty. This is a company whose products one should try to avoid at any cost.

I paid $2300 for a Jenn-Air slide in gas downdraft range about 3 years ago. Due to the way my kitchen was configured, I had no other choices. No other slide-in gas downdraft range is made. There was a non-working Jenn-Air in the space when I bought the house. I should have been alarmed I suppose. Stoves are supposed to work for decades without problems. I have had numerous problems but nothing that has not been mentioned by many other people. The igniter on the double burner quit working early on.
The oven door has never shut properly. The first time I used the self-cleaning feature, it discolored the oven door glass quite badly and the oven was not exceptionally dirty. I, too, got an F1 message that is everything quit working on the night before Thanksgiving last year. I finally went down in the basement and unplugged it and then replugged it in and it began working. And yes, if you use the downdraft fan to clean the air, it certainly does blow out the burners on the right side.
But the most expensive and annoying problem has been the repeated failure of the CPU which renders it useless for months. It was under warranty the first 2 times, costing $872.00 to repair August of 2009. I did not have to pay it but that was the charge. Also, they sent the wrong part twice. I needed white and they sent black twice so it took forever. Now, only 16 months later, the CPU has failed again and I will probably have to pay.
At present, the CPU has failed partway; no vent fan, no convecting, but it will still bake and broil for now. If there was any way I could afford to remodel my kitchen and move the location of the oven or if there were any other viable choices for the existing location, I would certainly change it out. It is very troublesome. But what really scares me is reading all of these posts from people who watched theirs catch fire! It was quite expensive and I, too, thought that Jenn-Air had a good reputation. It is really unconscionable to charge that amount of money for something so riddled with functional defects and dangers.

Last November, I purchased a Jenn-Air Stainless Steel 30'' Slide-In Gas Downdraft Range JGS9900CD from Sears. In 10 months, under normal household use, the touch panel for this new stove stopped working. I contacted Sears. I purchased the three-year extended warranty. Sears’ first action was to replace the circuit board for this stove which didn't resolve the problem. Next, they ordered the touchpad. A week later, a wrong part came in, so they ordered it again only to receive the same wrong part. It took me two and a half weeks talking to a Sears’ representative to get another repairman to come out and verify the part being ordered. The repairman talked on the phone with the parts people for about half an hour, after which he told me that they would research the part number and send me the correct part.
A week later, I received for the third time the wrong part. Jenn-Air seems unable to get their act together with the design of their touchpad interfaces, and the replacement of these parts. Sears now wants to replace the stove. Because I didn’t have Sears do the initial install, the plumber who did the pipe work in my kitchen installed the stove. Sears now wants to charge me for the installation. When I bring up the fact that I have to pay for installation twice, they pointed out that they are giving me a new stove like they are doing me a really huge favor. They seem unable to understand that I bought a warranty and they should be fulfilling a service agreement.

My slide-in Jenn Air range has been nothing but a disappointment since I bought it in 2007. The heat elements have given out 4 times and the electronic panel had to be replaced and repaired. One of the knobs stopped turning and had to be replaced (the inside and outside parts) twice. Jenn Air kept telling me they needed for the repair man to tell them the range needed to be replaced before they did that. Obviously they were waiting for the warranty to expire and the service men would like nothing better than come over every week, if they could, or the word to replace would never come from them, even thought they were telling me how many people had trouble with their new Jenn Air Appliances.
It is unbelievable to me, a company like this would not own up to what they manufacture and they would disappoint so many loyal customers like this. I say when you complain, use the name Whirlpool, not Jenn Air. Whirlpool bought Jenn Air out, is managing to destroy Jenn Air's reputation as a reliable product and really doesn't seem to care. My Jenn Air electric 30" slide in range was bought in April 2009. Today's date is Nov. 3, 2010. It’s now on its 4th electronic keypad. It’s unreliable. It takes too long to order spare parts. The service agents call promptly but do not have parts. So, we must wait an indeterminate time while the warranty runs on until the parts arrive. I’m thinking of calling CBC market place to expose this issue on TV. Whirlpool washes its hands off the problem when the warranty expires and offers no fix for problems with their electronic keypad: no oven, no downdraft fan, no convection, or a combination and complete shutdown.
I’m going to court to seek removal, restitution, and redress from Whirlpool if the new control pad, when it arrives, proves just as unreliable as the previous 3 under normal use. Whirlpool has not admitted that any problem exists and or that they are working on a solution. My family and I should be able to enjoy at least 15 years of trouble free use, except for normal wear and tear of this expensive range. Instead, I'm waiting for a new control pad the service agent has ordered. It has been two weeks so far. Whirlpool won't admit there is a problem, because then they would have to solve it.

A little over a year later, I noticed spots on the front of the stainless steel door and kick panel. I never used anything but soap and water in cleaning it.
By October, these areas turned to rust. We called the manufacturer and they told us it was out of warranty for cosmetic reasons. When we asked at what point does something become manufacturer's defect versus cosmetic, and cited many complaints about rust on the internet. She put us on hold and came back to say that as a goodwill gesture, they would authorize us to have a dealer come out and replace the panels. In setting up the appointment with the authorized dealer, he laughed when we told him the story and appeared to believe us immediately over the Jenn-Air rep. "Let me check stock", he said.
If it's not there, it means it's usually a high volume item (meaning used a lot for repairs). Sure enough it was. A week later, the part was in hand, the rep arrived and placed a magnet on our Whirlpool stainless steel fridge (fell off), Whirlpool stainless steel dishwasher (fell off) and then our 18-month-old Jenn-Air range (stuck like glue). Moral of the story-cheap steel. Our 2008 year Jenn-Air downdraft gas cook top / grill came with our manufactured home, as an expensive upgrade. This stove is junk. It is not worth $1800 for a cook top. So we are faced with stinking up the house when we cook, especially bacon, onions, fish etc.
Jenn-Air used to have a great reputation for fit, finish, function and quality. That is why we choose it as an upgrade. I cannot say that this unit fits any good quality description. When I called about it, they said that it can't get too hot or it will break the glass top. I guess I should have thought of that myself.
I have also realized that I hate to clean the glass top. It always looks dirty. Even if I just boil water it leaves spots. Black top is not for me. The latest issue started about 5 months ago. Occasionally, the oven part of the range does not shut off. It will continue heating beyond the temperature until it faults and shuts it self off. I can't predict when it will happen. Problem for Jenn-Air SCE30600 Slide-In Electric Kitchen Range, Clock and oven control display.
I have a Jenn-Air Radiant Range Model # SEC30600. It seems to be a wide spread problem that the LCD display gets dimmer with time. From what I have read online, the C3 capacitor which is 35 volts and 68uf goes bad. This is about a $2 part but they want you to replace the whole circuit board at a cost of around $190. I really believe that this is a manufacture defect because of the wide spread problems. Maybe the capacitor cannot handle the heat and goes bad. Just do a Google search for Jenn-Air SCE30600 Slide-In Electric Kitchen Range. There are so many problems with this range that it should have been recalled long ago. Class action lawsuit?

I remodeled my kitchen in 2007 and put in a glass front french door refrigerator, glass front dishwasher and glass top slide in range. It has been a disaster from the start. The range cooktop shattered and was replaced. I had to haggle with customer service the whole time to get them to cover the expense of this. Next, the key pad on the range stopped working, requiring another visit. It was replaced. The key pad broke 2 more times, which left me only able to cook at either 350 or 375 degrees, and was replaced 2 more times. Now it is broken again.
After fighting with them about the cost of the repair, they covered it to their credit, but now the party is over. It has broken for the 6th time, and they are telling me I now have to cover the labor, which I refuse to do. I won't put a penny into this piece of junk. While my range was breaking, the dishwasher joined in, with the spring going on the door, leaving it to fly uncontrollably to the ground, shattering into a million glass shards on my kitchen floor with children afoot. They fixed this as well, but shortly thereafter, the spring went again, and we were able to keep the door shut, so it wouldn't collapse and shatter. They came out and fixed the spring, though my conviction is it is an engineering design flaw and will break again under the pressure of the weight of the glass front. Do we have any recourse? It's maddening.

They came out and said the oven was not wired correctly at the factory. They had to order parts which took over a month. Within a year, the mother board went out and had to be replaced. Again it took a month to get the part. Within the next two years it did the same thing. The last time the fan for cool down went on and wouldn't stop until we turned off the breaker. I thought Jenn air cool good appliances. I will never buy a Jenn Air again. I found out that now our dishwasher is recalled. They can have it.

Now I am considering throwing it out and replacing it with something from Wal-Mart. The display keeps showing an error message and the beeper has not stopped beeping for days. I called the company, who told me I needed to have "an authorized repairperson" look at it. The only "authorized" person within 100 miles of my house will not work on it since I did not purchase it from them. I live in the country, and cannot find anyone that will come out here just to look at a stove, even unauthorized repairmen. I am stuck. I have no idea what to do. It singed my hair and eyebrows, and burned my sclera (white part of the eye). I called Jenn Air customer service, and they apologized for the "inconvenience". They said they will send someone to fix it at their expense, but I am afraid to ever use the broil function again. Word of warning, if you use broil, open the door slowly and stand back. Has this happened to anyone else? My hair was singed (around the front of my face and my bangs were singed completely down to the scalp). My eyebrows were singed also. We purchased a new Jenn-Air French Door refrigerator in 2004 as part of a total kitchen remodel. After a service call about 6 months ago, in which the switch relay needed to be replaced, the technician noted that the compressor did not sound very good. Well, today his monition came to fruition. The compressor died and because the warranty ended 6 months ago, we must purchase a new refrigeration to replace the $2,200 that we purchased 5.5 years ago. Jenn-Air customer service basically said, "Too bad, so sad," and offered the 15% rebate/discount if we buy another Jenn-Air refrigerator.
After reading this website, I realize we have joined an exclusive club of persons who have been hoodwinked by an illusion of quality and now, must shell out more money as a result of that illusion. The guarantee I would now make about Jenn-Air is that we will never buy any of their products again nor recommend them to anyone (even our enemies) and do everything morally and legally permissible to tell the world about their shriveled up lemon-like appliances. Worst of all by far is the 48" gas Pro line Cooktop with Griddle. The BTU's are so low, the cooktop is miserable to cook on. I contacted Jenn-Air, but that was a waste of time. I live full time in The Bahamas. Having purchased the range (Model No. JES9860BAS Serial No. 19318549PA) on line through the internet in Aug 2009 for our holiday home in Vail I did not see the stove until late December and upon discovering that it did not work properly reported the fact the authorities at that time as per the User Guide. They (Jenn-Air) were unable to get an agent/mechanic to come out before I left Vail around 10 or 12th January of this year. I reported the problem again around 12th March this year and finally after a few weeks an agent/mechanic did come to the house but was of little to no help and stated that the new downdraft Jenn-Air ranges are not as effective as the old ones.
Another agent even went so far as to state that if we had purchased the range from where he worked it would have been replaced - this statement has since been denied by the owner of the store (Alpine appliances located at Eagle Vail, Colorado. The same agent stated that the only way to fix the problem was to install an overhead exhaust fan at a further cost of approx $2,000.00. I feel that we have been sent a "lemon/a faulty stove" as I cannot believe that after paying some $2,500 or close to that figure we now have to put up with the fact that it does not draw smoke/steam from even a shallow pan when the downdraft exhaust fan is on high let alone expel cooking odors.
In addition to this the oven door is out of alignment. The space between the bottom of the oven door and the oven is 1/16' the space between the top of the oven door and the oven is 6/16". I sent photographs to Jenn-Air and was advised that they were passed on to the appropriate department/ authority of the company BUT just before departing Vail at the end of April I was informed that nothing could be done - What can I do at this stage? I cannot believe that this sort of dishonest trading is permitted in the United States of America. The range does not expel/draw any steam or cooking odors as expected of a downdraft range of its' reported high end quality and price. The oven door is out of alignment between the top and the bottom. I felt at the very least there should have been a replacement stove offered but now on reflection I feel a full refund of money expended would be more in line with the problems and the amount of time it has taken to get this far.

After my husband replaced the seal in the door and hinges, we have been able to use it with a less than attractive plastic clip on the outside to hold it shut. The door has fallen off several times. Thankfully there are no injuries yet but definitely, it is not convenient to have happen and the door is usually hot when it happens. Also, it's not safe for our children so our teenagers are not allowed to cook in it. Now the control panel is not working on the left side, so it cannot be used at all. The duel fuel stove has a bottom drawer that came in racked. The technician came out and re-bent it. The drawer still does not align properly.
However, this is not the major complaint. I have a French door refrigerator that has not worked properly since the day of delivery. We are on the third service company for the refrigerator. Every time a tech touches it, something else goes wrong. They have replaced the motherboard already and a whole bunch of other parts. I am told that my warranty covers only repair and not replacement. Jenn-Air will continue to send techs out rather than replace the fridge. I have lost hundreds of dollars in food and cannot keep any quantity of food in the fridge, it freezes. My Passover Seder, where I had 40 people, where ruined because my fresh fruits and vegetables froze.
Neither does the convection microwave. Jenn-Air has extended the warranty for an extra year on all the appliances and 13 month later, the microwave still goes on when the door is closed. Here is the latest response from Jenn-Air about the microwave continuing to stay on when one closes the door:“I am very sorry you are still experiencing issues with your Jenn-Air appliances.”
“It is my understanding that Great Kitchens has decided there isn't anything else they can do to resolve the issues you are having with your refrigerator. The service technician called Jenn-Air's technical support line and was advised to try a couple of parts to resolve the issue with food freezing in the fresh food section of your refrigerator. I did send out the parts recommended by our technical support line to your home. They should be delivered on Monday, April 12, 2010. I have scheduled service with Alabama Power Company for April 13, 2010 to install these parts. If you have any questions about the service or wish to reschedule service please call the servicer.”
“The technician also called technical support on your Jenn-Air microwave and was advised there is not a defect as the technician has been unable to replicate the problem. Please just make sure you don't pull and twist the handle when opening the microwave door and you shouldn't have this problem either.”“If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email me with them.”
Jenn-Air sold me lemons for products. If anyone knows of a good attorney, I would love to sue them for manufacturing defective products. I am sick of Jenn-Air and their games. Unfortunately, as the appliances were expensive and supposedly high end, I do not have the money to throw them in the garbage heap, where the appliances belong and replace them with reputable appliance manufacturers’ products. On 12-13-2009, our almost exactly 3-year old Jenn-Air Dual Fuel double oven range caught on fire. Only the surface control knobs (all of them) when igniting the burners to make breakfast. My husband put out the fire with damage only to the stove (none to property thank goodness) and he disconnected the gas to the stove. The next day, I contacted Jenn-Air and they were very efficient in scheduling someone to be at my house by Wednesday (2days). Monday afternoon, I received a very nice call from Lorna with the safety department letting me know the services would be fully covered by J-A. Wednesday, the repairman arrived and rendered the stove useless. He said we had a gas leak in the stove. He said he would put a note to his company ASI to have our family on priority for repair. He needed to order the parts. He said in our situation, the parts should be overnighted or 2-day delivery.
Here's where the problem starts. This was on Wednesday, 12/16/09. He advised me to call ASI everyday to check status because it was so close to the holidays. I did so. Let me add that I stressed to the service tech importance of promptness because of having a 1-year old in the house that needed baby food. I left everyone alone until Friday (wishful thinking). Of course, no parts yet. Monday, no parts yet. Tuesday, no parts yet. Wednesday, no parts yet. Each of these days that I called ASI. I was told that they received shipments all day and that someone would call. No one ever called me from ASI. Wednesday was 12/23/09 and their last day until after the holidays. No cooking over Christmas for my family. No calls from Jenn-Air or ASI to follow up.
On 12/26/09, yes, the day after Christmas. I called the 800 number to Jenn-Air to voice a new concern. My kitchen smells of burnt wire. I was told by Laura to leave a message with Lorna and that Lorna would help me when she returned after the holidays. I did so. On 12/28/09, I left another message with Lorna. On 12/29/09, I left two messages with Lorna. She did finally return my call, but she called my house phone not the cell number I said I would be reachable at. I called the 800 number and got Brandy at Jenn-Air.
I told her the whole story and my new concern. I didn't want them to repair the stove only to discover it would stink when I cooked. She put me on hold, contacted ASI and discovered that magically, the parts were ready and advised I have the parts installed first. Brandy transferred me to Susan at ASI. I found out the parts weren't in yet, but were scheduled to be in on Wednesday afternoon. You guessed it. Thursday is New Year's Eve and no work.
I ended up taking a full day off work on Monday because Susan said ASI wouldn't be able to schedule Monday repairs until Monday morning. It doesn't make sense to me either. The same service tech I had arrived approximately 3PM Monday and replaced the parts. He said the note he put in the computer at ASI making us a priority had been forwarded right back to him therefore, no one got it. He replaced the parts and cleaned the burnt areas with Windex. This is now 1/4/2010. I had to cook at neighbors, order out and buy microwaveable food through the holidays. I am an appreciative person, but seriously, where was the customer service? No one ever returned my calls. In fact, I left messages with Lorna asking how to contact her supervisor to file a complaint. Do you think that call was returned? Yeah, right.
So far, no more fires and no smells, but very poor service. It is scary to think that you work hard and save your money to buy the best because you think that's what you're getting and it's not. My house could have burned down at any time. We were fortunate and still treated poorly. I am utterly disappointed and will not buy another Jenn-Air product or use ASI's service again. I have also spread the word everyone I know. Top of the line isn't so great.

I purchased three Jenn-Air appliances in Spring of 2007. I bought a dishwasher, a range and a refrigerator. I have had so much trouble with the range. The touch-pad controller of the oven settings broke only 11 months after I bought the appliance. When I pressed the buttons, instead of starting the oven, light, or timer, nothing happened. I called and got a repair man to come, who just came and found out the same thing I told him, and called Jenn-Air for a replacement. I got the replacements 11 months after I bought the appliance, just within the one-year warranty. The new panel broke within less than a year of getting it, so I called the repair man again. He came again and asked for a third panel from Jenn-Air. Jenn-Air replaced it again, even though it was beyond the extent of the warranty.
Less than a year later, the third panel broke. By then, we were really frustrated with Jenn-Air and their appliances. Three had broken already! We called the repair man yet again. He came and called Jenn-Air. This time, though, Jenn-Air said they wouldn't cover a new panel. The new panel would cost me several hundred dollars (I forgot how much it was, but it was some ridiculously large amount of money for only that one small part)! I refused to pay for it, so the repair man negotiated with Jenn-Air for almost a month. Jenn-Air was stubborn and refused to give the part for free. All those negotiations were over one small part, a touchpad, for one customer! Finally, Jenn-Air gave in and replaced the panel for us. They said that this time, it wouldn't break. That replacement was in fall of 2009. Now in January of 2010, we haven't had any problems with the fourth panel yet, but we'll see. I am really frustrated with Jenn-Air, their appliances and their customer service. I have only had bad luck with that range. I bought a Jenn-Air downdraft stove in 2000. It was the third Jenn-Air I'd purchased and I loved my first two. From the beginning, though, this unit was a mess. It arrived with insulation jamming the ventilation fan for the convection oven. The spark unit for the left burners broke more than once and had to be replaced. The BTUs on the left side never worked correctly. The front burner charred food, while the rear barely warmed it. The grease drain had to be unclogged every few days because there was a kink in the line. As often as not, turning on the right front burner shorted out the mother board, so I'd get error messages and beeping and could not get it to re-set without throwing the circuit breaker.
This went on the entire time the unit was under warranty. I kept thinking that this time it'd be fixed forever. As the warranty came close to expiring, I contacted customer service. The people were very polite. They reviewed the history of the machine and told me that it was clear that this unit was a lemon. However, they told me that I'd waited "too long" to complain and there was nothing that could be done. They offered to give me a 15% discount on a new machine. I countered with the suggestion that they give me an extended warranty for the life of the machine, say 12 years. I was told that was a very creative suggestion, but they could not accept that. It was the 15% offer or nothing. I asked why I would want a new machine if this one was a piece of junk. Besides, the features that attracted me to the Jenn-Air in the first place -- the different burners, grill, griddle -- were no longer available.
Today, the machine started giving me the error beeps without any interaction on my part. It just started going on its own. Resetting the circuit breaker did nothing. I can start the burners with a match, but I don't know what I will do when I need to use the oven. I've spent the afternoon on the web, looking for gas downdraft slide-in units. Aside from the Jenn-Air, there appears to be only the Wolf Unit for nearly $4k, plus the downdraft vent for another $700. I've gotten a bit of revenge. I've talked two friends who were renovating their kitchens into not buying Jenn-Airs, but that really does nothing to help me.

I am currently comparative shopping as most individuals do. My question to Tasco is how does one decide on a particular product without receiving verbal product knowledge information and literature? We decided to leave the premises and asked for the salesman's business card and the name of the owner. He returned with the manager's business card and refused to print his name on the card. I proceeded to tell this salesman that his service was terrible and indicated to him that I was going to inform all of my interior design students that I teach at 4 colleges not to do business with this company. Believe me, students pay attention to stories like this one. The manager threatened to have me removed from the premises and didn't even bother to ask what the problem was. Great manager! I just wanted to let you know about my Jenn-Air experience. Thanks for listening.
