    I purchased a pool in February and paid in full. They were supposed to install it in April and due to the pandemic they pushed me back to June 1. They told me June 29 and they called back and they told me June 15. I have contacted the installation department several times for the last two months. Never received the phone call back. I’ve left emails and been to the store multiple times. No one can seem to help. I know times are tough right now but at least reach out to your customers and respond to their voicemails or emails. It’s so disappointing considering I praised your store and service. I let the store know that I had an autistic child living with me and much needed the pool. The store Told my husband and I that someone would get back to us right away and that was last month. I went to the store again and they said the same thing but they keep advertising about pools to the public but no one’s here to help you.

    Purchased a pool 4/30/20, told survey would be 5/22, delivery 6/5, installation 6/9. Of course no survey on 5/22, not even a phone call. After 2 days of calling, finally reached someone who said survey would be done 6/5 with delivery. 6/5 came and went with no delivery. Another 7 hours calling and multiple emails, finally got an email from Chris saying delivery was changed to 6/6 and he would get back to us with approximate delivery time. It is now noon on 6/6 and still no call or email with delivery time. No response to my emails. I think I made a BIG mistake choosing this company to purchase a pool. Maybe I need 7 on your side!

    Ordered pool on 2/8/20. Was suppose to be delivered in May and then was told on the phone and in a voicemail it would be delivered on 6/2 and installed 6/5. I have tried contacting them several times but get no reply. Went to the Massapequa store and was told “not my problem”. I would never ever do business with them again. We are an essential worker family and I thought ordering a pool that early even before Clovid 19 occurred they would do as they said and deliver the pool.

    Purchased a dark pool liner late February 2020, first payment, second payment 30 days later. Was told liner was in stock by sales manager. Store website showing liner available. (Not true). Went to pickup at ware house, with receipt full payment in hand. A lighter but thicker was offered. (Not taken). Back ordered original dark liner. 30 days later no liner. Wanted a complete refund, was told 10-14 business days check will be mailed. (only excuses). After the 16 business days (no check), was told check will be in store in two days. 2 days later received a phone call saying check will be in store between 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Arrived at store 6:10-15 PM (No check). Said check was en route. Waited another hour. From start to finish, 92 days later and still no replacement liner. To rate this matter (NO STARS) will gladly go to the mom & pop pool shops in the area!!!!

    My wife and I recently purchased a pool and paid in full. Scott, who was the sales rep that assisted us last Thursday with everything and said we would get a receipt emailed to us and the company that is going to survey the area would call in 48 hours to set up an appointment. That was nothing but lies. My wife and I have left numerous messages on the phone line no one now answers, I messaged them on Facebook and Instagram and still have not received a reply. It is so sad that in times like the ones we are in, there are still companies out there trying to take advantage of their customers. I hope they read this because soon enough the charges will be disputed and the BBB will be notified, and my business will taken elsewhere. Please steer clear of Island Recreational, it has been nothing short of a massive headache dealing with this company.

    I purchased a pool package over the phone and was told I would receive an email confirmation with an itemized receipt within 24 hrs and someone would contact me to schedule a survey of my yard. It’s been over 2 weeks and I have heard nothing! I call several times a day and leave msgs, tried to chat on the website which just sends you in circles. They debited the money right away but I have no way of knowing if I am actually getting this pool or if it’s a scam. If I don’t hear back this week I am reporting them.

    Thanks to the manager at the Deer Park store who said he would have them come back and correct the problem w/ skimmer leaking and missing screws. The skimmer was defective and that's why leaking so bad. They replaced with new one. If only they would have answered my calls for the 3 days I tried reaching them with no callbacks. Pool is good. Now pleased.

    I had a pool I purchased from them installed by them. The installation was poor. They came at 4:30 and finished in the dark. Next day I found they left screws out and the skimmer is leaking bad. Found screws around pool which I had to put in. Called them many times. No call back. Emailed. No response. Should have listened. People told me they have good prices but customers service stinks. They are so right. Been a week. No call back.

    We purchased a pool and paid in full before the closures from the pandemic began. They delivered the pool a week before what was our installation date and we had the sand we needed delivered. The date came and went with no one showing up or calling. When we finally reached them they told us they were not allowed to do construction at the time, so we were stuck with parts of a pool and sand. Now we are trying to confirm the new date which is supposed to be next week and cannot get a hold of anyone.

    We bought a liner replacement for our above ground pool on 12/19/19. On my receipt it says that my pool is 52 inches high, which it is. They sent someone to measure the pool to double check, that man said the pool was 48 inches. A few days later a man and women knocked on my door and said that they had to verify the size of the pool. I went with them and told them that the pool was 52 inches high; they said no, 48 inches. I have the original receipt from when I bought the pool and it says that I bought a 16 by 24 by 52 inch pool.

    On May 13th 2 guys installed a 48 inch liner. We filled 1 foot of water that day, then 1 foot on the 14th, as instructed. On the morning of the 15th we had less water in the pool and a huge puddle outside the pool wall. I have called and emailed with zero response. We went to the Deer Park store twice where the manager, Andy, told me that there was nothing he could do to help me as we were in an "epidemic" (his word not mine) and I should call the governor! What kind of customer service is that? Now we have a flooding backyard and a pool that we can't use! This a warning to not use Island Recreational for installations! They do not stand behind their work!

    Updated on 05/23/2020: I ordered and paid in FULL for a pool 12x 18 With installation included. This was March 17. Now I am being told they don’t have the heater or ladder. I have to DRIVE to their YAPHANK location to PICK UP the pool if I still want it installed on May 28. No one answers any phones, emails or chat. I am a single parent and they have mislead me and others. They are still selling pool, heaters and ladders and lying to the customers about the delivery dates and stocks just to get you to give them your money and after you do they tell you the nonsense that's all your items are out of stock.

    Why steal money from us during this tough time. Just tell us that things are out of stock before the money is exchanged. I have emails, phone records of me calling. I am out of money. It's going to cost me more than $200 to rent a truck pick up the pool. I am out of a heater for the pool because they dont have it and now no ladder. Island Recreational the least you can do is call me!!!

    Original: They keep changing the deliver appointments. I am spending money to extend my permits. Taking days off to wait. NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE!!! Or chats or installation problems!!! It is unacceptable to move people appts in short notice.

    I have purchased an above ground pool in Feb 2020 and paid in full.. Due to the pandemic the date of installation was delayed and postponed to June23. I received a call on 4/22 that they wanted to deliver the pool and leave it in yard till June. I tried calling and left multiple messages to speak to someone and left multiple emails regarding the situation and have had no success. I have no response and I am concerned about all the money paid or may have lost...

    I reserved their Big 18' pool package ($799) on 4/9/20 via their website. It said it would be held for 48 hours. I received a call from a salesman named Bill. We discussed the package and I asked if I could callback to order after I measured my yard. He said yes as long it was before 6PM when they close and I would have to make the purchase. He also explained that I would be calling into their system and should leave a message mentioning his name. I called back at 4:20PM and left a message. I then called back at 5:20PM and left a second message. Overnight the promotion changed to $999.

    On 4/10/20 I called and left another message and then finally resorted to entering another request on their website. I then received a call from a person claiming to be their Massapequa manager. He said the owner would not honor the $799 since the sale ended overnight. Needless to say this is very poor customer service and business practices. My wife and I chalked up to a warning that we probably avoided bigger issues with them down the road.

    On Sunday I spoke to IR about a pool installation. I asked to call me back on Monday. No call in Monday but between Tuesday and Wednesday they called me 14 times, no message, just harassing calls. When I could answer the call on Wednesday afternoon, Gwen said she didn’t call and blah blah blah. IR really has earned its horrible reputation.

    The salesman Anthony was very helpful- he assured us the heater was in stock and we could have it delivered by Thursday 8/15/19. This was okay- we wanted the pool ready for an 8/24/19 event. While checking out we tried to verify the delivery date- another salesman- unnamed- said it would probably be a "week and a half". When I protested that the other salesman said it would be Thursday this week- he said no all deliveries are on Friday. Anthony told us all deliveries were on Tuesdays & Thursdays. The unnamed salesman said they just give "estimated delivery dates, that the warehouse would call me with a delivery date.

    Then reading the paperwork they gave us it clearly states that the customer must call to set up delivery or no delivery would be made! So I called and was told that a delivery could not be scheduled because the item was NOT in stock and they were waiting a shipment from China! The customer service rep (who refused to give her name or employee ID number & stated that there was no supervisor in that office for me to speak to) sent an email to the store asking them to call me. She would divulge however that she worked in "headquarters."

    We are heading back to the store to get a refund. By the way this is the Deer Park store on Commack Rd & and they don't take incoming calls. If you call the store number you get the same undercover customer service rep who has no supervisor. This is not the first bad experience we have had at this store; I have no idea how the other branches operate. We spent $2,000.00 today and are completely aggravated; I don't know why we keep trying to have a normal retail experience here but those days are over. I only gave it one star because this site made me- zero stars is more accurate.

    6/25/19 5pm. It took me 23 minutes of calling and getting disconnected to actually get connected. Told the girl I needed to purchase a power supply for my robotic pool vac. After trying to find it with the manufacture with no success and now the fun begins. Apparently you can’t just call the repair center. You have to go through the call center. So I tell the girl I was told in a store to contact the repair department to see if they had any or knew which one would be compatible with my older model vacuum. She got back on the phone and told me they don’t sell them, so as I’m trying to explain to her OK then I need to know if there are any compatible since I purchased them in her store (she so nicely pointed out that she didn’t sell them to me) she starts arguing with me about not listening to her. They don’t sell them.

    “Why am I arguing with her” because yes at this point I’m starting to get a little frustrated and finally getting a tone in my voice (absolutely no foul or disrespectful language), “I haven’t even told you what kind of vacuum I have.” When I said that to her she got more nasty. I asked her if I could speak with someone else, she told me there was no one else. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said she was the manager and hung up on me. So now it’s a game. I called her a total of 25 more times of that she picked up once and held the phone. And in the background I can hear a guy ask her, "What’s that?" She said “It’s a customer and I don’t understand why they just can’t Google these things.” TWO more times she picked up the phone and yelled into the phone GOOGLE IT!!!

    The final time she answered she put me on hold. I was on hold for over 40 minutes before she hung up on me, enough time for me to get ready and drive to the Medford Long Island Island Recreational who were amazing!! The kicker of the story is I got the box I needed at Island Rec in Medford and there were seven in the Massapequa Long Island store so not only do they sell them they had them in stock. So much for customer service. Island Rec you need to check your customer service reps. Apparently they need re-training on the service part of the job. I’d like to add normally when I run into people in a bad mood like this I assume they’re having a bad day and I let it go but I get the impression this rep has a bad day every day. She had no issue hanging up on me 22 other times and screaming into a phone "Google it." And question, who do I report is to? Nobody because I have to go through her at the call center!!

    I purchased a pool ladder at the end of the season (thinking I was getting a good deal). The box was nicely sealed and had packing straps on it so I had no reason to look at it. To my surprise when I opened it this season the ladder was clearly used (had dirt and algae on it), I went to return it to Deer Park where I purchased it and all they could say was, "It was not returned within the 90 day return policy". I was not looking for my money back, only another ladder. Clearly it must be their policy to sell used items because of the great job they did at making the box look brand new.

    I don't even want to give them one star. Purchased the higher end pool liner with the lifetime warranty from Island Recreational, installation day came I had to work so the wife stayed home to meet the installers (White Glove Pool Installations Inc.). Drained the pool and left behind about half an inch of water and half a bag of leaves in the pool bottom which the installer hit me for an extra $300 to remove. The manual they give you at the store has it @ $150 max. Then he said I had an issue with the return which had corrosion and had to be repaired, another $50 and it's still leaking.

    Called the store today to complain. Spoke to some guy Chris, no help whatsoever. Spent roughly $2000 on this liner. You would expect to receive better cooperation than what I got. Island Recreational and the installers they contract are the worse. Strongly believe this guy took advantage. Should have stayed with Leslie's Pool Supplies. Definitely taking Island Recreational to small claims.

    My experience with this company was terrible. I had bought my pool (Above ground pool) in cash, had them install it and had one problem after another. 1st one gave me the wrong liner then told me they would credit me back $200. Never received the money. 2nd thing the first time they put the liner on they messed it all up and had to come back fix it which meant I had to drain the pool and start over again. 3rd thing is on the 2nd time coming back to fix the liner they punched a hole into the frame of the pool which now I have a piece of sharp metal pushing toward my liner. Told them about it and they now tell me I need to call the manufacturer to see what they will do about after them telling me to send them pictures of the damage. So at this point I now have to take them to court. Great experience. I give them a big fat 0 on doing anything correctly. Never got the energy star 2-speed rebate from PSEG for $150 either.

    We spent over $6,000 on an above ground pool from Island Recreational in June 2017. The pool came in, the surveyor came in, painted the pool on my grass where we spoke about where it should go, no issues found. Should have known cause he did not know any of the codes for Town of Oyster Bay on pool and fence lines, that I was going to have issues. Pool installer came in and that cost me another $650.00 not counting the two yards of Sand and bricks that I had to get to my house prior to installing them. Installed the pool, Had my electrician come to install power. He informed me that they would not be able to sign off on the electrical inspection due to power wires too close to the edge of pool, had PSE&G survey the wires and was told that the pool was too close to wires and would have to be moved.

    While we waited for PSE&G we called Island Recreational's customer service number and spoke with someone there and I assumed that we had 60 days to return the pool, that was my mistake cause I should have read the entire contract and had my electrician there when the pool was being installed. I even mentioned it to the customer service person that I was talking to and he agreed with me that they would assist if we had any issues.

    My wife and I took the PSE&G letter to Island Recreational and asked to speak with a manager, and told them that the pool had to be moved. Manager took letter and papers for about 30 minutes, came back and informed us that it was not their problem or issue, that it was up to us to get that done and when I asked to take the pool back he informed me that since the pool was already installed and filled they no longer would take it back or credit. We should have known the issue prior to having the pool installed. Hope my issues prevents or assist aggravation to any shoppers of pools on what they need to know when buying it from Island Recreational.

    1. Know all your town codes as well as PSE&G before you purchase the pool, installed or even delivered.
    2. Surveyors from Island Recreational do not care or know any of the town regulations, they are paid by the hour and most likely just told to paint the pool as they see it and make sure they inform the consumer/buyer on the sand and bricks they need to get before the pool is installed.

    3. Shop around and make sure that you have options or you have other companies that you can use or compare prices.

    My overall experience with Island Recreational is very bad, parts were back ordered and we had to call to get them instead of them calling us that they had arrived or that they had other pumps to exchange it for. Not one time did I not have an issue with them. I should have listened to my neighbor that Island Recreational was unreliable and not good to deal with. I will get the pool moved and my electrical issues resolved with PSE&G, and if I have issues will get someone other than Island Recreational to look at it and fix it. Will no longer give them any business. Luckily we have other pool companies like Leslie's or 3 Brothers if we need anything pool related in the future. Very disappointed!!!

    UPDATE ON 11/14/2017: Received a call from Kemp the installation manager from Island Recreational stating that since had written a bad review online that he would work with us to correct this issue or get us a refund, he waited a couple of weeks for us to decide whether another pool can be installed (Smaller), after we decided that we would get a smaller pool replacing the one that was installed. After talking to Kemp and realizing that all expenses outside of the new pool would be on us, we opted for a refund.

    We received a call from Kemp letting us know that the pool had to be taken down, picked up, and delivered back to the store before a refund can be issued. On October 14, 2017 the pool was taken apart and placed on the side of my house, waiting for Island Recreational to pick it up. After several calls to Kemp, received no callbacks and the pool is still sitting on the side of my house since October and have not heard from anyone at Island Recreational. I have include some pictures of the pool that sits on the side of my house, thank goodness for fences.

    I recently purchased an above ground pool system from all the way in Ohio, as a Birthday gift, for my twin nephews that live in Long Island, NY! The customer service team was excellent and helped me pick out the perfect pool for them and then had their installation team take care of the rest!     I wish zero stars was an option. I purchased a Bestway Steel Frame pool from the Hicksville store in April and my experience with Island Recreational has been nothing but a frustrating disaster! There is not enough space to list everything! My first problem was the fact that the sales people in store had little knowledge of the product. I had to see from an advertisement in Newsday that the pool came in a size other than the one we were told and purchased. I was to be called when the pool was in and that never happened. I had to go to the store to find out my pool was there and ready for pickup. I was provided incorrect information both from the store and your customer service number. The store is completely unorganized. The sales people don't know whether they are coming or going and the managers are extremely lacking.

    We upgraded the filter and we find out today that - IN APRIL- we were not given all the parts to the filter to the vacuum portion is missing! We now have to wait at least four days for the part to be in and GO BACK to the store to check if it is in and be sure we can get one before they are all out. And there is NO WAY we are driving to Deer Park to the warehouse. The only silver lining in all of this is when we have our permanent pool put in, we will not be using Island Recreational. A very important lesson learned that we will share with others.

    I've owned a pool for 30 years and I occasionally go to Island Recreational Pools to buy chlorine. I am not very happy with their procedures. Their advertising is poor and misleading. For example, there's a big advertisement on chlorine, X number of dollars for 24 pounds. When you go in there, it's not the normal chlorine that most people use. They're very small tablets. If I want the one I consider as normal, there's more money. They should put "This is for the small tablets" in their ad. Also, their computer system is not accurate and they're losing money because of that. I ordered something in the winter to pick them up in the spring and pay for them. I told them I want the big ones and when I went in the spring, the man came out with six buckets of big and small tablets. The whole system is screwed up. I would only use Island Recreational occasionally for special needs when the price is very, very reasonable.

    Island Recreational is local in our area so I tried them out. I'm brand new to pools and I got a brand new pool. I bought a pole to clean the pool and a solar cover which was nice. Then I placed an order for the reel that goes with the solar cover but now I have to wait for over a month for it. I paid for it already and I've been very patient. They keep telling me that it's delayed and it's going to be in. I want my pool reels because trying to fold up a solar cover is very difficult and so I would love to hear them say, "Hey, your reel is in. Come pick it out." I didn't know it's such an odd product.

    Island Recreational is not the greatest company in the world. They're like the Harbor Freight of pool places and they're good for one-time. Their products are not the best but they're cheap if it's in stock and so it's easy and quick to be picked up, like going to the convenient store. All my stuff is Hayward and it doesn't seem like they carry Hayward. Nonetheless, they have very nice, knowledgeable and always helpful people when I go in the store. They come right over to see what I need. They also send a lot of emails and got a lot of coupons which is good. Although I'm learning that it's probably easy to buy stuff online because I get it so much quicker and get a better product, I'm not going to stop going to Island Recreational. I'll buy stuff that's in stock there but I'm not going to place any orders. Also, they might have the golden thing that I need the next time I need it and then there will be a box.

    I've been Island Recreational's customer since the 90s. Their store is located near the house where we live. It is clean, the people are nice and friendly and they know where the stuff is. The one we go to is in Massapequa. They had an old terminal from the 80s that was outdated and it always went down. They never upgraded. When you call in, they can't say something is in store, which is frustrating. Sometimes we need a couple of things and there's always some issue when we go down there. They don’t always have what you need in stock, so you have to come back. It's never a smooth transaction. But you go there because they do have the products and they do have the best prices.

    There's a main customer service number but you can’t call the store directly. If you leave your phone or something there, you're screwed. I had a problem with something we bought last year, and we couldn’t get to the store. Somebody will never ever call you back. You can't talk to the manager and the guys are not knowledgeable at all.

    But I am pleased that I can go there and get the chemicals that I need. I bought a pool pump there, and they've given me a warranty. Also they do these sales for two hours on Sunday from 10:00 AM to noon where you can get an item that you usually get. It's like $10 for this but it's normally $30. If you go there, there are only two in the store. If you're gonna go down there and be the one person that gets it, you're lucky. This season, they started doing giveaways online.     I purchase a new pool from Island Recreational. I upgraded the liner and pool installation was free. When the installers came they said my pool was 5-6 inches off. NO WAY. Then they hit me up for $245.00 to level the ground (which was already leveled). They told me to buy 2 yards of sand and only use 1 yard leaving me with a mess to shovel up. Then they walk inside the pool with their boots on and leave deep giant size foot prints all over the pool. I told them about the prints they said not to worry it would come out when we fill up the pool each day. THEY NEVER CAME OUT. I called Island up and they told me they would come at the end of the season and fix the problem. They wanted me to drain 14,000.00 gallons of water out of the pool to fix it. Then they said they would refund us the $245.00 extra we paid. That never happened.

    I spent nearly $3,000.00 for this pool and have nothing but aggravation. I had to pay $100.00 for someone to come and remove 50 bags of sand from my property. The sanitation refused to take all the bags. I am taking them to court and plan to sue them. I have had a pool my entire life and never had this problem before with any other pool co. Will never do business with them again.

    We purchased our pool in July 2014 and have not had a full problem free summer yet. In fact we have not been able to use our pool at all for most of the 2016 summer because of a hole somewhere in the now 3rd liner that was installed in Jun 2016. All of our problems started with the initial install. Installers had to come back 3 times to fix damage to pool walls in the first month and a half we owned it. Sadly they were unable to fully repair the walls properly and we have permanent indents and creases around the pool. One of our biggest concerns is what are all these holes in the liners and water seeping through doing to the pool walls. I am going to assume this pool will not last much longer because of all the problems.

    Not only have we had liner and install problems, but we have had to replace 90% of the products we bought with the pool, like the skimmer, filter, filter pump, vacuum head and winter cover. The float selection the store offers is good, but you'll be lucky to get more than a month of use out of anything they sell. If you do take the risk of buying a pool from these people, the other thing to watch out for is the installers. The group that came to our house tried to jack up the price of the leveling so that they could stick more money in their pockets.

    We purchased a buttress-less pool where the three center supports get buried under the sand. At the time we were purchasing I asked if burring the buttresses was part of the install or if it was additional cost like the leveling of the yard. I was assured by sales girl that it was all part of the install because it was part of the pool we purchased. Day of install came and the installers tried to charge me and extra $300 for the buttresses install. Spent an hour on the phone with the company while these guys Sat around in my backyard getting this fake charge removed off the leveling bill. Needless to say the tip we were going to give stayed in my pocket.

    We submitted a request for the company to pay for a new liner and installation from another company, reimbursement for the 5 times we had to refill our 15,000 gallon pool, and a 10% rebate for the permanent damage to our pool wall in few areas which equaled $1750. This submitted request did not include the other moneys we have had to pay out for a new filter, pump, and a skimmer, which would have increased the amount to $3100. The reason these amounts were not included in the request was because we opted to purchase more reliable equipment that Island Recreational does not offer. After about half a dozen rejected lower offers, we finally had to go out and spend the $1000 for a new liner and installation because, we refused to let the very hot 2016 summer go by without our family being able to use the pool.

    I've given this company several chances but still come away dissatisfied. I got lured in by their variable pool pump promotion. Between the PSEG rebate and $500.00 store credit (which I was told at the time did not expire) it seemed like a good deal. I do have to say the pump still runs 1 year later though I did lose the display and needed to reset it. I tried to use my credit primarily for chlorine tabs but other items I purchased were a leaf skimmer (broke), treads for my aquabot (3 have broken already), and I hope everyone knows their liquid shock is less than half strength than you buy anywhere else. And guess what - my remaining credit was voided 1 year after I received it. Stick with a real pool store and you'll spend less in the long run.

    After writing this review island recreational has offered a $200 dollar refund for my troubles. It's greatly appreciated and allows for me to pay back for all the unused sand I purchased. What is missing now is for the liner to be replaced because of the hole in it but let us see how that works out.

    This is by far the worst purchase I have ever made in my life. I bought a pool with them on June 3rd, 2016. My installation date was set for June 27th but a 3 days before my installation date they call to say they do not have the pool wall nor the liner in stock but they can send a standard steel and different liner but I declined and said "I'd wait". They changed my date for July 3rd and when looking over the products I purchased I saw they sent me the wrong liner. I went back to the store furious and they said they would send one in for Monday so my date was changed once again. After having my date changed and waiting for said liner they call to say it'd be another two weeks. Upset I said to forget it and just keep the regular installation date I will go get my refund. Later that day I get a call informing me my date was changed from July 7 to July 25th since I have requested to wait for the liner.

    I told them I never agreed to the change, I'm keeping the liner and I do not want my date changed given I've been pushed back 3 times. They managed to set me up for July 8th. Installation date finally arrives and the sand box was built by the previous installer who could not finish because he said we needed 40 bags of sand. We paid him for some of the work he did and the new installers came and they were upset because we had already paid 300 to the previous installers and so they used none of the 40 bags of sand because they said it was unnecessary when in reality they were being spiteful. They set up the pool and the pump and informed us the pool ladder would be an extra 150.00 dollars if we choose to have them set it up. Of course we declined and so they left. The following day the pool is set up and we turn on the pump and the installers did a terrible job and the water was leaking everywhere.

    I called and they said they could not have anyone there until Wednesday and I was making the call on Monday. By the time the pool is set up summer will have been over. In all honesty terrible customer service and terrible products. I extremely regret this purchase and everyone I speak to will hear of my experience with Island Recreational. I truly hope they go out of business for all the customers who may have gone through a terrible experience and to save those who may end up in their path. There are so many other pool places we have now come across and strongly regret doing any and all business with Island Recreational.

    Purchased a pool with "free installation" from Island Rec in late May. Free installation does NOT include the price of sand, delivery, filter installation or salt generator installation or the ladder assembly. What a joke. After scheduling 3 plus visits, having the installers be RUDE to my 71 year old mother, (White Glove Pool Installation - nasty) and haggling with customer service reps who said things like, "we hear your type of complaint all of the time" I truly believe that Island Rec is operating a bait and switch business.

    They bait you in with the advertising of "free installation" and then all of a sudden you are paying for things and having to do things (like cart away thousands of pounds of soil yourself) and assembling a ladder. None of this fine print was gone over with me at the time of purchase which is unacceptable. The extra money spent on sand, land removal, filter assembly and install, salt generator and install as well as the ladder assembly reduce any benefit of their so-called "free installation." Their customer service reps refuse to give me managers names or provide direct phone numbers. All calls go through the call center with ridiculous wait times. I will never use them again, have no faith in their business practices and will be reporting them to the BBB as well as Nassau County Consumer Affairs.

    Bought a whole pool and filter, and salt system, and August 2015 the pump only lasted one month before broke. Went to the Deer Park location they told me to use. They would swap it out in the store when I got to Deer Park location with the Palm. They told me I had to go to Massapequa to get the pump replaced. When I got to Massapequa at 5:15 PM they told me that they were closing soon and they could not help me. No one knows what they're doing. Their poor customer service and their products are junk, not built to last.

    We are just opening our pool today and one of the solar heaters blew the line. Of course, we were five days out of the warranty. I brought the heater to Matt, store manager, and once he saw that I was really just out of warranty, he got a new heater for me. I'd really like to compliment Matt for his initiative.     By far the worst customer service of any establishment I've shopped with. Purchased a new filter and heat pump in February, set a install date of April 27th. It was postponed 5 times and when they finally came on JUNE 6TH the man couldn't even install the heater because he was by himself and couldn't move it nor the filter because it wasn't on his worksheet! I've made numerous attempt to speak to higher ups in the company and get the runaround by getting told they'll leave a message for them to call me! That never happened! I made several trips to the store to get the run around from the manager CHUCK there too... not even an apology was given. I told them to come pick up their ** and refund my money, now we'll see if that even happens. You might save some cash going with Island Recreational but you'll pay with stress, time, inconvenience, etc. It's true... you get what you pay for!!

    I purchased a pool liner on 5/2/16 and it's now 6/7/16, and they still don't have it in the store. My install date is 6/9/16 and was told by a service rep on the phone after waiting for 40 minutes that it may or may not come in tomorrow. I received one word answers from this rep who did not seem as if he cared or want to be there to help. Previously, I made three other trips to the store to pick up the liner which they say did not arrive yet. This is yet the most horrible customer service I have ever received.     I have to say that I have been to the Massapequa, NY store about 10-15 times in the past 2 weeks and once to the Franklin, NY location. I am a manager for one of the largest shipping companies in the world and I do know exceptional service when I see it.     I just had a pool installed on May 31st. I am extremely dissatisfied with the level of service I have received from Island Rec. Went to the Deer Park location and ordered the pool with what seemed to be a very nice guy. He was very helpful at the time but I since realized he did not tell me about many additional charges regarding my installation. I was looking to save some money and since I own a truck, I agreed to pick up the pool parts at the Yaphank warehouse. Put down a deposit. Had an on-site inspection. Guy was very nice and explained to us about the additional charges that we were never told about when we ordered the pool. Because this was a replacement pool with an existing deck and sand leveling we had to pay an additional $252. Not happy but we agreed. He told us to be sure to call the installation department right away to get an install date because they were filling up fast.

    Called to get the install date and I was advised that I need to pay the full balance of the pool. Very odd practice to me because what other place or contractor requires 100% payment even before the work is done? Seemed shady but I paid it so my kids would have a pool for the summer. Got an install date and I advised I need to pick up the pool and parts in Yaphank. I was told to call before pickup but no one could get my call transferred to the warehouse. This company has 1 phone line only. I took a chance and went to the Yaphank warehouse anyway because no one could call them? They had my pool but a winter cover for the skimmer was not in stock. I asked the guy if they would be sending me the part in the mail when it came in and he responded "it's like $10, can't you just go buy one"? This part is included with the skimmer, why should I have to pay extra for it? I was so aggravated at that point and just left.

    May 31st, install date. The guys come and start installing the pool. The main guy tells me the additional charges are not $252 but $310. They are charging extra to re-level some dirt that I had already leveled. Of course, cash only. I pay the guy. He finishes the installation and they did a crappy job. The pool is not level and there is a dent in one of the panels. Luckily, the dent is under the deck. He then tells me that he has to come back tomorrow to install the skimmer because the pool needs to be filled halfway with water. I fill it halfway as he requested.

    June 1st, wait all day for him to show up to install skimmer. I finally text him at around 3pm and he says he will be there today between 5pm-6pm. Of course, he does not show. He does not answer my texts. I called the one number at Island Rec., wait on hold forever, and the guy tells me they can't send anyone else over to install the skimmer, it has to be the same person who installed the pool. The rep on the phone promises me he will be back in the morning, first thing to install the skimmer. Another day that my wife has to stay home and wait. Not sure they will show up today as I type. My guess is no. They have my money and they were suppose to be here by now. Feeling foolish that I chose Island Rec for my pool install. I should have paid the extra few hundred bucks and went elsewhere.

    I went to get a water test from Island Recreational this week because I was having problems with my pool. The water was green and cloudy and I was having a hard time clearing things up.     I purchased pool hoses at Island Recreational, Franklin Square. The 1 1/2 inch opening is too narrow. It fits inside the old hose I am replacing. I called. They said to put the ends the hose in hot water to stretch them. I will try it. I think they made them too narrow and are using the hot water as a fix. So my complaint is to warn other pool hose buyers that they will be expected to heat the ends of the hoses to get them on the nozzle of the pool or filter. Maybe it is an experiment.

    Island Recreational had a sale on pool supplies that required a $10 additional purchase to get the sale price. I drove 15 miles (30 miles roundtrip) to the Deer Park store (Commack Road) to purchase my supplies. The total came to $200 on supplies. I needed to purchase an on-line chlorinator for $50 but they were out of stock. This was the item needed to purchase to get the sale price on the other items. I ask for a rain check on this item and if they could call me when the item came in. When they total up my purchases, I noticed that I didn't get the sale price. When I ask the manager he told me I needed to purchase an additional $10. I told him about the chlorinator, but he stated that I would not come back to buy this item. I been a loyal customer for over 10 years. To insult me and to argue over $10 for my devotion in spending an yearly average of $250 was shocking to say the least. I will be searching for a new pool store in the future.

    Pool installation was pretty good - no complaints. The issue was with the surveyors who came out first. Had the complete wrong size of the pool mapped out and wrong on the amount we would have to level the ground - almost double what they said. My husband dug out for roots with the original size from the surveyors but we had to pay additional because it was wrong and had to pay more money than originally thought because the estimate was so wrong with the leveling. Understand it needed to be done but what is the point of the survey if it is completely wrong?

    You cannot really want to improve, all you have to do is look at any site that has feedback for years and years. My experience usually is disappointing. One example, wanted to buy a winter cover you were advertising (I know not to believe but I tried anyway). After 20 minutes waiting for a rep, I wanted the cheapest model, that was not available until the middle of October *(was labor day) I was told, so were the next two models.     The Commack store looks like a bomb hit it. Dirty, no stock, and the people are not very helpful. I was told merchandise is available in the Massapequa store. This must be the jewel of the chain. It is much larger than Commack and they did have some items in stock. Unfortunately, you are not able to call each individual store. The guy told me which filter they had and which one I should buy for the size of my pool. He said the guy from the Massapequa store would call me in about 15-30 minutes. After about one hour I called back and said he never called. He told me that he would email (or contact) the store and tell the guy to put the filter on the side so I could buy it. I offered to purchase it right then but he said I had to deal with the store. I received no call and today I went to the Massapequa store. The guy there told me they have no record of my call, that I could buy the filter at full price but then said he had none in stock. I have been buying from your store for years, left because of certain issues and then said let me give them a try again.

    I walked out of the store after the guy basically called me a liar that I called yesterday and this is not how it works. So I left the store, called the 516-520-1860 number again. Today's customer agent told me he could not tell me what Medford had in stock and what was available but I had to drive to Medford to see if you really had a filter on sale or one even available. This is a disgrace - how they treat your customers. It looks like they just put things in the paper and then tell people you don't have it or just ran out of it when you arrive.

    I have dealt with Island Rec for several years. Each time leading up to some problem. I normally do not write reviews but I must say I am completely satisfied with the level of service I have reviewed at the Deer Park location. Eric and William well are getting it right. Their phone system 516-520-1860 and corporate customer service is the worst in the business and has been for decades.

    However, when I walk into the store it's like night and day. People that actually know what they are talking about and are pleasant to talk to. We had a severe water problem for two months that manager Eric helped us resolve. Each time we walk into the store he remembers exactly what we talk about the previously time. His staff is well trained and overall great kids. Rose is exceptional. I know this company gets a lot of complaints and I have seen people get irrational over petty things but keep going in the direction. Your true customers appreciate it. So, Thank you Island Rec for finally making good decisions.

    Island Recreational is misleading the public by placing ads and then not having the merchandise in stock. They give you a rain check and you must come again and again to see if it arrived.     In August of 2014 I bought an expensive pool heater and received a Splash Bucks Card with $400 to use in the store. I was told the card was good for a year once it was activated. I was told the expiration date of the card would be August 15, 2015. I used about $350 of the value and each time I made a purchase I would try to confirm the expiration date, but the store manager told me he cannot get that information. The back of the card actually says "When you make a purchase with your Splash Bucks Card, your receipt will show remaining balance and expiration date." This is a lie, the receipt does not show the expiration date, at least not from the Franklin Square store.

    When I went to use the remaining $50 on my Splash Bucks Card the cashier told me it was gone. When I asked for information about it they told me to call the number on the card. When I called the number on the card they said to go to the store. Finally they both gave me an email info@islandrecreational.com and told me to direct it to Pete and he could help me out. I sent an email last week and still have no response and the expiration date I was originally told is in 2 days so it looks like I am out the $50.

    I bought a pool heating cover from your Deer Park store. I went to buy a specific brand, but I was offered to buy this cover as it would be better for my pool. The lady also told me that I have 7 days to return. I tried the cover, but it does not do anything for my gunite pool. I went to return to the store where I met IRSEAL (a manager a believe) who told me that the pool cover could not be returned. I mentioned the whole conversation with the sales rep but would not listen and told me to call 516 number, which I did. So here I am after all that, I am stuck with a $170.00 worth of plastic that I could have bought from hardware store for $10. I must say that this was a horrible experience to say the least and I am hoping NO ONE EXPERIENCES what I did. STAY AWAY from this place.

    I always shop at Island Recreational Pools and Supplies to get anything I need. But this time my purchasing experience was very difficult. First of all, when they give me the modem they didn't tell me it is digital. My husband don't know nothing about digital and I'm not good with it too. They just tell me the savings - that’s no good. They shouldn't sell me this. My pool did a green and they don't want to help. They said, “Just call in a service and they will help you.”

    They have a law, they did not take in anything which is bad. If the people are not happy they should take it back. Any store you go, if it’s 14 days - you buy it, you're not happy you can return it. One time I have some problem with the cupboard, they never take it back when they gave me a wrong size. I'll go to another pool service that gives me better service.

    I got Island Recreational because it was close to the house and people who used their services before me never complained. From the time I started with them, I've been surprised throughout the years. I was spending about $300 to $400 a season on the pool. I bought everything from the liner protect so I wouldn't scratch the liner, the proper pH. I'm a chemical engineer so I was anal enough as it is with my water, but I was very, very, very concerned with fading.

    There was a little rust spot on the first pool I get after 10 years. I had explained to them that when they take the pool liner out, I'm gonna reinforce it with aluminum and it will be fine. But the Island & Recreational guy comes to the house tried to fix it - he took the side of the pool and put a foot-size hole in it. Now I got a buy a new pool.

    Hence I buy a new pool. First, in the paper it said $595 for installation. $2,300 later, it's installed. I told them to not give me a tight-fitting liner because there's gonna be ice (due to the weather in our neighborhood), it's gonna hit under the waterline and rip the liner. They all told me I'm wrong and I don't know what I'm talking about. Guess what happened? The liner ripped and I had to buy a new liner! (One guy at least gave me a free hose, but the hose was only worth $4. But the point is that he did something! He didn't stand idly like the other guys used to.) After they ripped the liner, instead of me watching them work, I stayed on top of the guy and told him to make the pool flushed against the wall. We filled the pool with water within the course of four days. Now I finally have a right pool after 10 years.

    Don't even let me start on the chemicals. I used to buy the clarifier by the case. One day I decided to do a pH test on the pool water to see if what I am buying is really a clarifier because my water is not blue. It turned out to be 73% color dye. I got pissed off. I called the management and all of a sudden, things were changed. Now the other chemicals they have now have a shelf life of a week - they don't last. So we're paying top dollar for what we think is gonna work, then you go to Walmart and you buy the HTH and theirs last three weeks to a month! Hence, I stopped buying stuff from there.

    Island Recreational has had bad management before - they were not nice to people and that turned me off. But the last two years they've shaped up to the point where I got interested to purchasing things again 'cause I didn't feel ripped off or pushed. Their people nowadays are fantastic. As far as customer service, it doesn't need improvement this year. In fact, I'd recommend them now because of their fantastic manager Eric. Their products are now placed correctly, too. (I used to complain that they have to get some chemicals away from those that are gonna start fires.)

    We have known about Island Recreational for years. I bought stuff from them, and a friend of mine used to work there. Purchasing is easy but what they advertise and what actually happens are two different things. The have a lot of advertising to bring you in there and then it's not as what they say. For example, they say that the pool pump is free. So I pay them $778, and I got a rebate of $350, then they give you a store credit for $350. So, it's not really free. Instead, they should say that it includes a store credit of $350. If you paid them, that's not free.

    I also have an in ground pool, and they installed a variable speed pump that I had trouble with. The guy that set it up, set it up wrong and it took me about three days until we straightened it up. They kept wanting me to bring the pump in. I said, "Listen, I'm handicapped. I'm in a wheelchair. My wife is handicapped. I had to pay somebody to drive me over to the pool and spend the money to buy it. Why don't you just send the guy back who installed it?" Well they didn't.

    Finally on Sunday, I got my grandson over here and we spoke to one of the guys at Island Recreation and he helped us reprogram. But evidently the guy who installed it didn't program it right. So now, I got trouble with the Aquabot. It worked twice. My son cleaned the bag and put it back in and it wouldn't work. I noticed that at the bottom of the Aquabot, the bag was hanging out. So I resealed it, but I don't know if it works.

    A lot of times, they do a two for one and then I find out that they've jacked the prices up. I'm handicapped and have no more income so, I watch my dollar, and I'm very conscious about spending money. They used some deceptive advertising, but they have all the good equipment. Also, the people that work there are nice. I am satisfied with Island Recreational.

    We purchased a pool filter and motor. The motor did not work and when my husband went to return it, they said he couldn't and would have to send it out for repair. After 40 minutes and some choice words, they finally gave my husband a new motor. After hooking that motor up again it didn't work. We went back to the store again and they refused to give us a refund. They said they cannot take it back because it was used. How can it not be used to see if it works. We had the manager of the store call corporate who said the manager of the store could make the decision to accept a return. The manager of the store refused and offered the worst customer service I have ever seen. Now I have to go to my credit card company to dispute the charge.     I purchased a new, energy-efficient pump from Island Recreational center in Medford. They came to install the pump and the technician said that he had to charge me $20 to put the old cord on the new pump so it could work. I agreed and gave him $20. Once he installed the pump, both fittings were leaking. He told me that he had to install a new fitting and it would cost me $20 (he said it was not included in the installation). He installed the fitting but the second fitting was also leaking, so he put teflon tape. I asked him to change the fittings and he said he had no more fittings in the truck and that the teflon tape would hold. He gave me his number and said to call him if there was any problems.

    A few days later the pump was not drawing any water and fitting was leaking. I called him and left numerous messages and he never returned my call. Needless to say I bought new fittings and pipe and fixed the problem myself. This pump does not have the power like my old pump. Worst purchase I've made. Thinking of throwing out.

    MUST READ THIS REVIEW! Thinking of going to Island Recreational for a pool, part, chemicals? DON'T!! I DEALT WITH BOTH LOCATIONS MASSAPEQUA AND DEER PARK. Bought a pool there, heard installers call up their manager telling him the ledges for the pool were no the correct ones. Manager on speaker said "make it fit." (I was inside looking out the window.) A month later, they started to warp. I called 10 times, issued complaints. What do they do? Issue me new ledges (the same ones.) As this is going on, pool started sinking to one side, they had to come empty the whole pool, reset it and I had to buy all chemicals again. 6 months later, these ledges started to warp, fighting with them for another 3 months they finally send me correct ledges but wanted me to pay for shipping!!!

    After fighting they said no shipping charges... the screws around skimmer which are supposed to be rust proof, rusted, so if skimmer ever leaks (oh by the way skimmer was replaced once too.) Chemicals on sale at Island rec, hurry and get there before they are sold out. "Oh I left my coupon at home," well, they tell you they can't honor without coupon. After major fight, guess what? Cashier has coupon in their drawer!! Employees are nasty, attitudes from just about everyone. I have never had to deal with such bad customer service and incompetence. Went there, bought a sand filter, I asked the sales guy 3 times "are all adapters included?" He said yes. Hooked up sand filter, surprise it didn't come with adapter to hook up to pump!! Went there next day, told and showed him what I needed, female adapter, they gave me a male adapter instead. Shall we continue???

    Now I'm back at Island rec, seems the pump they SOLD me with the pool is discontinued and they don't even have the parts. Response from both managers was you need to shop online and search for the part, there is nothing we can do for you, pump and parts for a pool you had not even 2 years are not available here. They sent me to pool tech in Farmingdale, who were extremely helpful. They said that island recreational sends everyone here when they don't want to do the research for their own customers!!! Wow, Island rec is still in business? Not when I'm done spreading the word... have a folder overfilled with my documents and phone calls. I showed this review to the manager in Massapequa on route 107, hicksville Road, he didn't even care. I told him just give me an equal value pump and I will delete review, he said there is nothing he could do for me... Again, epic customer service pal!! NOT.

They came in and installed my pump, but they didn't tell me to get an electrician so as far as I knew, the pump was installed. A week later, I'm ready to hook up my pool and get it going, and I can't because there's no electric. I called there and said, "Isn't that something a salesman should have told me?"     We've had a pool for many years so we know Island Recs have been around for a while. However, we didn't end up buying anything and in fact returned what we bought because Island Rec doesn't sell quality stuff. What we bought was made in China and it's not what we wanted. We want to get years out of what we buy and not just a couple of years. In addition, we had bought the things right at the start of spring and they didn't have the unit. They told us they'd have it by Monday but four Mondays came and went and they never even called us to let us know that it was never there. It didn't leave us with a warm and fuzzy feeling so it wasn't good - it was neither here nor there.

    I am so disappointed about Island Recreational. I paid over $5.000.00 for a pool and installation. After installation, I noticed there was a leak in the pool. I immediately reported it. They took weeks before they sent someone for the inspection. When the person came, he discovered the hole in the liner. I call Island Recreational to replace the liner. They refused to replace it. During the conversation they hang up the phone. Customer service is terrible. They have no manners and no respect for customers.

    My experience with Island Recreational is not very good. They sold me a filter that is 1/3 the size of what my filter was here. They charged me $700 or $800 for a filter that was worth $200. I just have the guy here now. Somebody else also looked at it just this morning because they were supposed to come and install it. The guys had to take my pump apart and the guy that did it for me looked at it and said that the motor is a piece of garbage as it was too small. He said that this motor is not going to work for this pool. So I got to call somebody tomorrow to come and fix my filter that was originally here and to give me all my money back. We took it apart because they sold that wrong stuff, and I thought that was scammy.

    I have recently purchased a Blue Torrent Variable speed pool pump for quite a bit of money at the Island Recreational Pool supply store in Medford N.Y. When I installed it, I looked high and low in the box for the instructions manual on how to run and program the pump because it has a control pad on it that is hard to use. There were no instructions with the pump, so I went back to the store and asked the manager if I could get a copy of the instructions for operating the pump, I showed him my receipt and he stated that I would have to call Island Rec. directly and talk to them as he did not have the instructions, he also said that when the installers come they have a booklet but it's for the installers not the customers. What is the big secret? Why can't I have my own copy of the instructions?

    Every item I have purchased is of inferior quality. I bought a new lid for my cartridge filter, took it home, put it on and it leaks. I use more of their chemicals than Leslie's, everything is a "scam" to get you to think you're paying less. Went to buy a new pump, $549, on sale for 379 - with rebate 200, with in store credit free, but still 379 out the door... BUT you have to have them install it and LIPA has to inspect it. Went to another pool store and bought Haywood pump $250. Reminds me of a company run by HS kids.

    We ordered a liner in April. We had an installation date set for mid-May. My husband called numerous times to confirm our appt. Now they tell us it is back ordered until mid-June and we can get an inferior liner for the same price. Second time they did this to us. The exact same thing happened when we first installed the pool. Terrible way to run a business!

    I purchased three solar heaters for my in-ground pool; they were of very poor quality. I contacted a plumber to install the heaters, he said return them or throw them away. I called Island Recreational and was told there are no refunds after the box has been opened. I made a Consumer Affairs complaint and got a reply from Mr. ** at Island Recreational. He told me to return the items and they would refund the full amount. They put a full credit on my card. I am happy. Thank you Mr. ** at Island Recreational and thank you Consumer Affairs.

    Purchase of solar heating system which was useless. Attempted to get a refund and was told that because the boxes had been opened I could not get a refund. The product is of such poor quality that when I called a plumber he looked at it and said return it or throw it in the garbage.

    We purchased a pump and a solar cover which we never got. The purchase part was fine but they kept telling "Oh, I'm gonna get you a cover in a couple of days," then a week and a whole month went by. They had no cover and didn't bother to order one though we already paid for it. Even to this day, I still don't have the pool cover. I went back this past weekend and we had to wait in the customer service, was there for an hour trying to get my money back for the pool cover they never got.

    I also wasn't happy with the guy who installed the pump. He said he had to do something extra and said it was gonna be $20 and it had to be cash. That was definitely a shady experience. I refused to give this paperwork guy. If it was a legit service, he should have given us a receipt that he did it and we paid for it. It was like he was pocketing the money. It was horrible. I'm never going there again.

    My recent visits/purchases at Island Rec continue to pleasantly surprise me. They are better stocked than they used to be, and now when out of stock on sale items, they are happy to provide a rain check (even for VIP/pre-season sale items at really steep discounts). This had not always been my experience in previous years, but the merchant seems to have improved their customer focus. I'm also glad they finally did away with the old VIP program where you paid $100 to get back $100 worth of discounted merchandise.

    Island Rec is more straight-forward now, though I still sometimes get confused by certain sales where a merchandise card is part of the discount or $20 of additional regular-priced shelf items need to be purchased. I skip those sales events and only purchase during the straight-forward "Key to Savings" sales promotions. SO... Island Rec... good work, but a little more adjustment needed in your sales campaign if you want me as a steady customer. Otherwise, In the Swim or Leslie's still gets some of my $$$ too until that time. But kudos for being nimble.

    We were told we needed one yard of sand which we did not need. We were replacing an existing pool and spent $65 for no reason. And after filling the pool I noticed by the filter the bottom of the pool wall is buckling. We have called and emailed with no response.
