I have several forms of coverage with HomeServe. When I take out a policy they explain it fully and carefully and answer any questions I have. I have called for service 3 times in the years I have had my policies. Each time they promptly arranged for a qualified professional who solved the issue quickly and to my satisfaction. I have recommended their service to my friends and relatives.

Since Thursday 1:30 PM and after you send a plumber to fix the sewer line and now it is Saturday and nothing happened. The plumber told us we cannot use water and bathroom till he come back to fix it. For three days I call your customer service and request to talk to a supervisor but I was only promised that a supervisor or manager will call me back and no one call despite all my calls. I do not know when this will be fixed so we can use the water and bathroom normally and like humans.

About a week ago, a repair man came here. He was a nice man. He had to fix two of my switches in the living room. He had a problem and it took him a while but he did good and he finished. Having HomeServe is worth it. I make everybody in my family get it, especially for the sewer lines and the water lines because I know how much you got to pay when they break. I save money having HomeServe in the long run. When a plumber walks in your house, it's $50. It's not too expensive. A regular electrician or a regular plumber are much more expensive.

Plumber dispatched determined that line was broken where irrigation line branched off and then was advised by HomeServe that repair was not covered. Sure wish I'd known this limitation before I subscribed. I did see this limit in the terms and conditions but I'd already paid for essentially nothing.

My drains were backing up in the basement. I called HomeServe and they put out a call to companies in my neighborhood. Technicians were able to come out on a weekend and snake the drains. I have a lot of trees in my neighborhood around my yard and the tree branches tend to grow into the pipe. It was a great experience. Everything’s working as it should now. I like the convenience of having HomeServe. I don't have to go to the internet looking for plumbers and stuff like that on my own. I can just call HomeServe and they'll do the work for me.

The drains were going slow. The guy came out and said that he snaked the bottom. There was a thing in my bathroom that was rusted and he couldn't fix that because time was up. He said I was limited to two visits and he would have to come back and fix that. He said he could fix it for $250 and that he would have to get a part and come back and fix the sink, and that another visit wasn't covered. But then, I had one of my nephews come out and fix the drain for about $50. I also had a plumber come out because the kitchen sink wasn’t draining right. I paid him $250 to snake the drains, like the guy from HomeServe said he did, which evidently, he didn’t do a very good job because I had it done again and I had to pay for it this time. I’m not very happy with HomeServe right now. The whole thing just didn't make sense to me.

HomeServe was the best bet to have things done. A couple of people were talking about HomeServe taking care of vendors. Now, I wanna make sure they're right by telling me that HomeServe takes care of business if something happened. I'm not satisfied because this electrical stuff been going on for three months now. The contractor finally came down here three weeks ago and the tech checked all the wiring. But he never came back and finished doing what he was supposed to do. He sent HomeServe a picture of where the wiring was all burned out. He was waiting on them to give him the okay. But they are not doing anything. I should be taken care of because I seldom call them. The service has been good, but sometimes it takes them too long to get to it.

HomeServe was a referral from my dad. He used them. If I want to reach them, I just call the phone number and someone picks up and I can easily file a claim. That's cool. I like their promptness to getting appointments there. The customer experience with HomeServe is good and I can always recommend it. My sister recently got a house and I recommended HomeServe for her because she needs it.

HomeServe was notified that my sewer line needed repair after numerous cracks and a belly was found when camera'd. Their contractor refused to replace the sewer line. The line kept backing up into my house - they told me I had to call them when I saw the water - by the time they got here, it had gone down. Their answer was "it's still draining - it's not a blocked line therefore we have no obligation to you to repair." Well I'm not obliged to continue to pay for their "policy". My sister also had HomeServe. She also canceled her policies. Same thing. Her line was actually completely severed and the sewage was draining hydrostatically into her basement! After paying them for a worthless policy for many years, it's time for me to put that money back in my own pocket. DON'T GET TALKED INTO THIS! YOU WILL BE THROWING YOUR MONEY DOWN THE DRAIN.

Whatever your coverage is, HomeServe handles that. The few times that I have called them and they did a job for me, the contractors were professional. They did their work. The one that they fixed was the leaky pipe. They changed my pipes under the sink and I think that's all they do. Overall, you would have to call another plumber because it's not that specific thing that you're paying for. But HomeServe is good for us. The reps are nice and helpful for me.

I just submit a claim to HomeServe when I need a service. The process has been pretty easy. I've been told how long it'll be before the contractors call me back. The ones I've had, except for one, have been good. He seemed a little ticked off and I didn't appreciate it. Overall, HomeServe saves you money on a million things but there are certain things like the plumber doesn't fix leaks. At least, I was kind of told it wasn't one time. So, I have a leak and I didn't ask him to fix it because I knew they wouldn't according to what they told me. It'd be nice if they could do anything that you have in plumbing.

When my commode started backing up, I panicked and I called somebody. They came right out but they charged me 500 and something dollars and they couldn't complete the work. The next morning, my wife reminded me that we got that home warranty for plumbing. I called HomeServe and they had somebody come out. They were not able to complete the job that day and ended up having to come back. But I was pretty much pleased and satisfied with the K & S plumbers.
I was calling this morning and somebody called me back. I'm having a problem with plumbing again in my kitchen. There's water that's going down into my garage. Something in my kitchen behind my sink is draining water down so something has got to be busted. We have an older house that was built in the late '70s. It's well-kept but some of the plumbing still have the old cast iron instead of the PVC which is put in the newer homes. Some of the plumbing probably need to be changed out.
Having HomeServe is excellent because you never know when you're going to have problems. Even a new home can have plumbing problems. It's a good idea to have that extra security if you have a plumbing problem. Initially, I had gotten the coverage for my plumbing that goes from my house out to the main line because I was told that if I ever had a problem and they determined that it was not from the main line, I would be responsible for it. I extended the coverage and got coverage on my plumbing as well as my sewage. That worked out pretty well. HomeServe has been very professional and prompt.

The technicians came out quickly and resolved the problem. It was a good fix for me. We’re pleased with the experience with Homeserve. Because we have a newborn in the house, we would love to have communication over what they plan to do so we can better organize things for them. It’s better for us to prepare but it's a very novel case so I'm okay with things that already happened. HomeServe is a service that’s needed. We’ve lived in this house more than two years and something happened. So, we strongly recommend it.
If Homeserve has an app like the auto insurance that we have right now, it would be much easier for people to use. When I went to the website, I had to research for the things that were available there and I saw the phone number. So I clicked on it to call. It was the quickest for me. I just go on Google and search for the HomeServe website. For most other insurance, we use manual checking to see what’s happening with our bill or paying the bill. But with HomeServe, I signed up automatically and I never used it until more than two years later.

I have had plans with Dominion Products and Services since they began. When they changed over to HomeServe the service is horrific. I have had plans on several properties only to find that my checks have been cashed but my plans have been suspended or cancelled for non payment. Since January of 2021 I have paid almost 1,000.00 on several properties and plans and the customer service I spoke to today told me there is no record of my payments. The bank has confirmed that the checks have been cashed. The customer service person said there is no way for them to know who cashed the checks even though I included the payment stub with the payment.
Now I have to go through h__l to try and find out what happened to the money and the plans are no longer in effect. I have had plans for years and never use them, I keep the insurance for peace of mind, now I have no insurance and no money. A company this large should really have their record keeping more together than this. It is hard to believe that I get a bill (statement) but customer service has no record of the address even being included in any plan. I can't even imagine how long this has been going on. I have paid these plans for years. :(

The water line between the water meter and my home started to leak and so my water bills were escalating tremendously. After talking to the city, we determined that there was this leak, and they told me I had to get a plumber. I called a man who had been my plumber. He told me he wasn't equipped to handle this kind of job and he would try to find someone. But after a week, he never found anybody. Then I knew that I had this coverage, so I reached out and HomeServe provided me with the first plumbing company, but they were unable to respond quickly enough. They said they couldn't schedule me and if I could find someone else.
I went back and HomeServe said that they would find someone else, and they got Around the Clock Plumbing. This company was very responsive. They sent very fine young men out to do the work who appeared to be very qualified. Unfortunately, when they went to work on the line where the city was, they cut the wrong end of it. For two days, water just guzzled down into the street and the city had to come and literally repair their end of the line. Around the Clock Plumbing came by and did everything they could possibly do to make it right. Also, the city had to do what they needed to do. Unfortunately, it was a couple of extra days, and it was a lot more water wasted as a result of it. But everybody was very polite and they went about fixing it. Now, I'm waiting for the city to pour in the concrete because they left the meter a little too high, and they needed to adjust it. I had the coverage with HomeServe before Hurricane Sandy in 2008. I collected nothing from the flood, but I continued to keep it because my house was partially submerged. I was worried about the wiring and the electricals. I had full coverage, electrical, plumbing, drainage, and et cetera. After the flood, I had several issues with my electricity so the warranty paid for itself for a while. But I don't pay $800 a year for all the coverage that I have a need.
On occasion, the claim submission was difficult because HomeServe outsources whatever problem you have. If you need a plumber or electrician, you're at the mercy of a local plumber or electrician. Sometimes, the service guys have an attitude. I recently had a problem with a plumber. He wanted to make more of a bigger job out of the claim because he submitted a larger bill to HomeServe. Roberta, the rep from HomeServe, was quite helpful in helping me after I initially signed up. Then, I got back in touch when I was having a problem. Somebody came out two Saturdays ago and he snaked the pipe but he thinks that there's a crack in the pipe. So, he gotta have somebody come back out with a camera and take a look and see what the scoop is. It just had happened that we had some flooding going on in the basement and we don't know how that happened or why. So, we're still working on it. The guy who was sent by John’s Sewer was a good guy, very upfront, to the point, knowledgeable and cleaned the pipe out nicely. And so, I liked him and the service.

A friend said that they had HomeServe and they'd had really good luck with it. So I went ahead and called and got one policy started. I've had it for quite a while. I had a backup in my sewer when I was on vacation. The kids were staying here and there was a terrible backup. We wound up having to redo the whole downstairs and it was a mess. Luckily, my household insurance covered most of it.
The recent service request I had still was one of the drains. It was the main drain that had backed up and I caught it before it got too bad down the basement. It just had a little pool of water and lots of toilet paper and ick. Over the last six years, they have had to clear the drain many times and they can't ever find anything that will be stopping it. When the drain was cleared the time before, the plumber mentioned that if this would continue, I should probably have someone come in with a scope and check it out and see where exactly the problem was because it kept happening all the time.
Other than having grandkids or family over every once in a while, it's just me here in the house. So the amount of toilet paper or whatever that would stop it up, I don't know how that's happening. We went to Northern. That was what the plumber told me as one of the better toilet paper to use to have something soft. We don't use any tampons and we also don't use any of those wipes that you use for a baby to throw in there.
This is an old home and it has had a lot of renovations over the years. The other problem I've had over the years is that I've sprung leaks on my water lines three times downstairs. The plumbers had to either patch or replace some of the water lines. Luckily, the last one was covered by the policy I have with HomeServe. I got the sewer inside, sewer outside, and the water lines covered. The first two times it happened, I didn't have that and they told me that eventually, because of the age of the home and the condition of the pipes that I would probably have to have all of those replaced at one time. But other than these things that I've encountered, I've been very thrilled with all the service that HomeServe has covered for me.

Somebody suggested to me, "If you get HomeServe, it's an insurance so that you don't have to pay a lot of money to get something like that done." The process itself for people to get here is good. But every single time I called, it was like, "Oh, this wire is connected to this fixture. Therefore, the fixture is interfering with the job." It was ridiculous. Every wire was connected to a fixture. So it was a fixture problem, not a wire problem. That's why I cancelled my electric one.
I got two brand new boilers. I don't have the insurance for that anymore because it doesn't cover pipes going into the boiler. It just covers the boilers. And the reason why I have plumbing insurance is because I have tenants, and there are always plumbing problems, like a clog here or there. And Roto-Rooter is expensive. I just find that the water one is very good and carefree. I was like, "Oh my god, thank god, I'm covered for this." Because for a plumber to come just to tighten up a valve that got loose, which was what happened to me last week, is ridiculous. I have people that do that for a living, but I'm not going to rely on those people because they're always busy, and they have their thing going on. That's why I find HomeServe to be good, because Lancer's or whatever company that they call are always here within a day.
But let's say something is up with the fixture that was damaged during the fixing of the pipe. I can't use the sink anymore, because the nut that was going into where it screws on got stripped and now it's leaking from there. How much would it cost if we put a new one that wasn't stripped? The contractor would say, "$200," when a plumber that I know would come over and do it for 65. Their prices are double, and sometimes even triple of whatever I can get that. If I bought a wrench for $35, I could probably do it myself. And they would charge $190 to do it.
If the valves from the radiators and all the pipes leading to the boiler is not covered, then I find that to be one of those things that people should be aware of. And it costs a lot of money because that's a bigger expense. HomeServe should raise the insurance amount, but have the pipes leading to the boiler that's making the boiler not work part of the thing. I had a leak that was right on top of the boiler, but it wasn't sending the water to the boiler, and it was making the boiler malfunction. So, I had to get the pipe fixed, which was $700 because they had to cut the pipe and then put a new pipe in there, and new nuts and screws to weld it together.

I first heard about HomeServe through some people that I know that have tried them. I usually call and they’ve been responsive anytime I've called for any questions. We had no heat on Sunday, and they scheduled an appointment for Monday. That was what I expected. If I have no heat, and I signed up for service, that somebody would come out quickly, and that was absolutely what happened. So, I'm satisfied.
The guy that came yesterday for the heating thing said that one of the parts that was leaking, even though that it's part of the heating system, because we have the plumbing plan, that I should call back and have a plumber come look at that. Having no heat and then having heat was my first priority. But I just found that a bit strange that he wouldn't communicate that information to HomeServe directly, that the job was more than half done because he restored the heat. However, there is a part that is leaking in the heating system that he said he doesn't readily have parts for, but the plumbing people would. That was a little disconnect. Why would I get that information more so than Homeserve so they could finish the job? Because I don't expect that if something's leaking, that it's gonna not leak at some other time.
He's the technician, he sees that something is leaking, he knows it’s temporarily stopped, but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen again. It has never happened before. So I just thought that was just weird, that I was expected to follow up with that, versus him saying, “All right, I fixed this part. But this part is not something I have in my car, so I'll have the plumbing people come and fix this for you, or schedule an appointment.”
Other than that, he was very professional, nice and thorough, because I had a question for him as well. Also, my heating is working. It's not heating up to what I'm setting the thermostat to, which is a little concerning because I haven't had that happen before. But it's 24 hours post the technician coming to my house, and I had no heat at all Sunday. I'm going to give it another 24 hours and see what happens. I'm happy that the people who recommended HomeServe did recommend them. And so far, so good.

HomeServe works very well. I am Bernice's POA and she was concerned about the call of having to dig outside in the street into the house. The piping was very expensive so she didn’t want that to happen. I submitted a request to Home Serve for service and it did well. The contractor for the plumbing and draining issue was wonderful and the service was great. They even came early. They called me, wanting to see whether it was okay to come because they were outside my door. They had finished up a job and I liked that they didn't waste on using the window of time they had given me to come. They got to me and we got done fast, and everybody went on with what they were doing.
I use HomeServe when I need them. They’ve come through and they follow through well. They were able to do everything that I called them for. I asked about some other things like appliances and if they expanded their services. That’s all I do and they say yes or no. If it’s something I need, I get it. I’ve got confidence in Home Serve and they have not been a letdown. I've called several times. I had a pipe that burst in the basement that went out to the street. We didn't know it was bad because they came and fixed the first part and then we realized that it didn't solve the problem. The problem was the pipe that went into the walls to the outside. They came back and fixed that. We also had someone come in and fix the toilet, and then the cables on the second floor about a month ago.
I've recommended HomeServe because a young lady friend of mine had a problem with her sewer’s line from the street to the house. I told her to get that coverage way before the problem came up and she procrastinated. Then, the problem came. She asked what the insurance was that I was telling her about. I had a claim with HomeServe and the tech that they sent out didn't repair anything. He just came in, looked at the washing machine, and told me that I needed to get a larger hose. There was a leak where the pipe goes into the outflow and he said that when the water came out, it went into this little hole and it was supposed to run outside, but it was backing up. Then he was saying I needed to get a longer snake drain to put it down in there then that'd unclog it, and unlock it. And when that happened, he said I'd be okay. That was it and he charged me $79. That did not work out for me and I'm trying to understand what the $79 was supposed to be for.
But as far as HomeServe is concerned, they have been wonderful. I have a ceiling fan in my hallway. The ceiling fan helps the air conditioner and heating. It draws all the hot air out in the summertime, so the air conditioning doesn't have to work as hard. It's called a fireman's relay switch on this thing, and it went out about four years ago. I called HomeServe up, and they came out. They looked at it and they told me it was the fireman's relay switch. They replaced it.
I got a phone call from HomeServe before the guy came and put a request order in saying that it's not covered. But one time it's covered, and then next time, it's not covered. The rep said, “Well, it has nothing to do with your furnace and your air conditioning.” I said, “Yes, it does. It cools the house down before you turn on the air conditioning.” She said, “No, it doesn’t.” I love their service until they start to get nitpicky with you with a point where, “Oh, we don't cover that no more.”
As far as the reps, the first time I called up, I got ahold of somebody. She said she would get in touch with somebody that’d call me back. This was back in January and nobody called me that day or the next day. So, I called them. The lady forgot to put my request in. I understand it’s an human error. But it’s like, “Come on now. You wrote all this information down, but you didn't process it.” There's a little lack of consistency.
I'd like HomeServe to cover my fireman’s relay switch. It’s like, “How could you say one time it’s covered, and then the next time, it’s not covered?” They told me it should have been covered in the past, that was why they did cover it. But why can’t they cover it now? I said it still pertains to my furnace and my air conditioning, and it's an assistance to help heat and cool the house down. But they don’t look at it that way.
I’ve had problems with the water heater, too. They came out the next day and replaced it with no problems. But I think the new people they got working there just don't give a damn. Nobody cares anymore about their job. They just show up, and that's it. Before, I never had a problem with these people. It seems in the last year or so, they just don’t give a damn. I even asked the lady, “Why am I paying this insurance every month, and you people obviously don’t care?” She couldn’t answer me. So, I’m thinking about dropping it. HomeServe's service is terrible.

Can you hold?” She came back, said they were not taking orders and they couldn’t do time because the roads were still icy, snowed in and slick. She didn't know when they would do it.
The third time I called them, I said, “Well, somebody was supposed to call me.” This gentleman got on the phone and said, “Let me get ahold of somebody.” And then he came back, said that somebody would call me and give me a time. And then he said, “Hold on,” and called them. And I got it. They said they would call me the same day. The gentleman then called at 10:30 and said that he would be here at one o'clock. I had to cancel one of my doctor's appointments in order to be here for him.
He got here and checked everything out. 11:30, he told my husband, “I got to go home and get some parts and I'll be back.” He didn't get back until almost three o'clock. And he left here at 11 something. I called back, then the gentleman said, “You need to call this number and then make them call to find out what happened." At that time, my husband came in and said, “He just pulled up in the driveway.” So I told the guy, “Don't worry about it. This January when I called for water standing in my kitchen sink, provider said earliest service would be 24 hours: I was disturbed at length of delay but acquiesced. Then shortly before time for arrival provider advised service would be delayed additional 60 hours. Second provider broke a ptrap, without service over weekend. Third call resulted in repair to ptrap, however subsequently water leaked from under toilet and into tub downstairs. Yet another provider used a larger element to clear line to street, so hopefully system is working again.

HomeServe sent someone who fixed the plumbing leak out front. The guy was very helpful and pretty quick at it. We caught the leak earlier this time but 10 years ago, it took the poor guy a full day down in the muck of the clay that had been so saturated. My gardener found it, and it was a water main. So, he did a great job. Overall, HomeServe did a great job. I appreciate that they follow through with their insurance policy. There was never a question. They just managed it.

My dad has had HomeServe for a couple of years. They do a good job. We call anytime we have a claim and usually somebody contacts us that day. If there are issues, we call HomeServe and they act as an in-between. From December to now, it seems like everything hit the fan at once and we needed them for our plumbing, so it was a good thing we had it. We just had a big job that was done and everything is covered and taken care of. Lanzo did the big job and Ace Mechanical came when we had a clog. Once they were here, the guys were very good at what they did.

They work with contractors who will do the minimum possible and when there is a big problem they find ways to avoid paying for it. In an emergency, you will need to find your own contractor or risk property damage. This year I spent $12,000 on a new water and sewer line that HomeServe should have paid for per their contract. They created so much stress and left us without occupancy for a week before we got our own contractors to do the job. Also beware: You are not the customer for any of their contractors who work directly for HomeServe and do not care about your needs.
Angela, I am looking into your situation and I will be in touch with you very shortly to discuss this matter.

I'm dissatisfied with HomeServe and I would not recommend them to anybody. From day one that I got the warranty, there was an issue. The first issue that I had was electrical. I called them and they sent somebody. At the time, we had just bought the house, we had a home inspection done, and the home inspector said everything was fine. But one day, I was driving home from work and when I looked up, there was an electrical cord sitting right on top of the roof and that was scary. I also called them them about a switch that made a noise when turned on.
We got the home warranty because of unexpected things but I cancelled HomeServe because there was always an issue when I needed something to be done. Recently, something unexpected in the kitchen happened. We removed the faucet so we could move the cabinets up but when we did that, a bunch of cables came down. Then, the lady from HomeServe accused me of trying to get all my wiring done. But I told her that I wasn't. I just needed the wiring in the kitchen to be fixed because the guy that they sent out here said that it was a fire hazard. They were giving me a hard time and I told her to cancel everything.
They also sent out a tech for the plumbing two years ago and he told them what was going on. He said he was going to take the job and have it fixed. But then, COVID happened and he got overwhelmed with a lot of work that he chose not to do this one. I told this to the other plumbers that were coming and they were still trying to charge for cleaning the main drain. But I told them that I already paid somebody else to clean the main drain more than once. They were all trying to clean the drain when they came out so that way, when the actual job needs to be done, there's not going to be any money because everybody was coming to clean the drain. And cleaning the drain is a day fix then, the problem comes back.

I initially heard about HomeServe through SUEZ that they were providing policy for our waterlines outside our house. I ended up purchasing that policy from them. Subsequent to that, I found out that they also offer a policy for indoor plumbing issues. My experience with them, so far, has been excellent. This last claim that I had was for an indoor plumbing issue. It was a leak that I found. I did have a little bit of an issue with a previous claim though. They must have a bunch of contractors that they use depending on your area and the first person that was sent here by them was almost kind of useless. He didn't fix the problem at all. He didn't want to be here.
When I called back HomeServe to call in a second claim some months later, I said, “Do me a favor. Do not send that original contractor back. I don't want him coming back here. The guy doesn't want to be here. He's not the best option.” They were more than helpful and more than understanding. They made a note of it and sent me another guy. That other guy was excellent. I've since told them if I have any more claims to please send that guy.

My heat was not working properly and I had to turn it up extremely high in order to get the heat to come through. Then sometimes it was warm and sometimes it was not. So, I called HomeServe to have it checked out to see what was wrong. The tech confirmed that it was a thermostat issue, which was not covered by the insurance, and I have to take care of that on my own. It was a very bad experience when I submitted a claim. I had two people come in over the time period. They didn't do anything. They just told me that this is a problem and they could not fix it. I already knew the problem, that was nothing new for me. They didn't fix it and they didn't give me any guidance on how to fix it. They gave me a detailed note. Some of the sockets in the garage were not working. The guy came in, he said, "Your supply line, you'll have to create the whole new wiring inside. We cannot do that." He left. Then, I had a private electrician come in. He opened the socket and fixed it. I also had a plumbing service called in. I had a faucet in my bathroom leaking. The guy wouldn't fix it. He said he didn't have the right things to fix it and I'd have to call them back again.
It's been a horrible experience. It's a waste of time. They come in, they spend hours and I don't know why they spend so much time and they give no details. They just go back, sit in their car for a long period of time and then come back. Then, they tell me, "No, this cannot be fixed." I don't know what kind of contractors they hire for the service.

When you have problems and if you don't get the right stuff, HomeServe doesn’t tell you anything until they come out to fix something. Then, when they come out to fix it, they'd say that they couldn't because it was not on the contract. But they should have said that in the first place. I'm not going to recommend anybody to them. I'm paying all that money for the warranty and I can’t get any satisfaction. The claims process should be easy when you pay. I signed with HomeServe when they first started in Baltimore City and I've been with them for five years. I wish they had a policy where you just pay one thing a month and that covers everything. Everything with HomeServe is an individual policy so it starts to add up quickly. Add this on and add that on. That gets to be pricey.
I put in a claim when my water wasn't getting hot and the process was very easy. Service people were here within 48 hours. The particular company that came had been here before. HomeServe is crappy. This last time was the first time in at least the four previous times that we've used HomeServe that I didn't have to spend time on the phone with their representatives then with their representatives’ manager. It was the first time that I didn't have an argument with the representatives. One way or another, the first line of representatives doesn't know a thing about the policies they are talking about.
If you are buying the service, you're supposed to get something. If you listen to their technicians, they go, “You don't get to have your faucet repaired.” This is what I went through. The technician said, “We don't do that. You're not covered by it.” I asked what they do then and he said, “We don't replace fixtures.” But I was not calling to replace a fixture. I was calling for them to fix a fixture. He said they don't do that.
Two episodes ago, I was referred to Anton who has been with them for 15 years. When he said, “We don't do that,” I said, “Look on page two. It says you repair but you don't replace. So if you can't fix the fixture, you don't replace the fixture.” That's the constant theme that I've had every time I’ve talked to these people. With the last representative, I told her that we have premium service. She put a note on that. This was the first time that the claim went okay.
Mayes called within minutes. They have handled several properties for us through HomeServe. Overall, they are an excellent company and the technicians are good. They generally don't try and sell you anything. They clean up. The latest service was three small items that included fixing a leaking faucet, a leaking toilet, and tightening a faucet on a sink that was loose. Mayes and Sons has also done a sanitary line maintenance on another property. There was another company that we had through HomeServe and of those two, I'd recommend Mayes.
On the whole, there should be changes right at the ground level with HomeServe. They need to pay the people more money or get more educated people. They should educate them on the product and what are in the policies that the claims are filed against. These people would tell me that I don't have any coverage. Why would I have HomeServe then? If they are not going to fix my faucet, what do they do? Other than that, everything works after you get through that boloney.

I usually had a good experience with HomeServe until our furnace broke and it was -2 outside. I had two small children in the house. I had been paying for my furnace and knowing it was old, I had gone over the policy with the agents to make sure that wear and tear was covered. But whoever crafted these policies carefully did so with an HVAC expert so that the heat exchanger, which is one part that goes out in a furnace and is the most essential to it operating, is not covered.
We were left with a cold home and we had to leave it. We had to go to a town half an hour away, stay with family, and commute to work. My kids missed school. It was only by the grace of God that we were led to a not-for-profit program that provided us a new furnace. Had we have not, we probably would have lost our house. It would have been a snowball effect because COVID has ruined our credit to the point where we couldn't even get financing to purchase a furnace. That was why we covered it with a warranty. That is why we tried to be smart homeowners and cover the things that we knew were going to be reaching their expiration. But we were paying into a warranty that didn't help us so I cancelled all of our policies. If they had an expert carefully craft that policy, I'm sure they did it with others. I wasn't going to give them another dime.
While I understand that home warranty companies make money a certain way, it would be within reason to say to their policyholders or somebody who's shopping for a policy, “You might want to have a tradesperson with expertise look at this policy before you purchase it.” That wouldn't be something that would hurt their business. I understand they can’t specifically say, “Just so you know, we're gonna list off 30 parts of your furnace, and the heat exchanger is not going to be one of them.”
I felt duped as a first-time homebuyer with no expertise. The agent did read off about 30 parts that were covered. As an uneducated consumer, I should have educated myself. But it seemed like a good deal. In the past, we had had a plumber come out and there might have been another service call that we had called for somebody who usually got back to me really promptly. The tradespeople who were sent were always professional. We never had an issue until it was our safety that was in jeopardy.
I had a problem with the lack of empathy and the communication that I received. It was as if everyone's hands were tied and there was nothing they could do. It would have been nice to have heard any glimmer of hope like, “Have you looked into other programs through the state? Or have you looked into assistance?” The only way we found out about the not-for-profit that serves our county was because the HVAC people that HomeServe sent out told us about it because they work with them.
Because I work for Meals on Wheels, I can now share that information with 300 people in my community. Everything happens for a reason. It was incredibly heartless the way that some of the agents spoke to me as if there was nothing that could be done. That was a low point for me as a parent to not be able to keep my children warm and having believed that I was doing everything I could to make sure that if anything happened, they would be safe. But they weren't. We're just really grateful that people stepped in the way they did to help us when HomeServe didn't.

I signed up with HomeServe back in October last year. Signing up including the payment was pretty straightforward. You sign up online. But the follow-up part had been little bit awkward. I had to call the company to confirm I’m already part of the enrollment and find out where are the plan documents or T’s and C’s. It took a while for me to get there.
I had a call the very first time early this year on a Saturday night. The answering part is very quick and efficient. You can reach the operator right there and the communication about what would happen and what we would expect has been wonderful. However, I had to call back probably more than six times. It is probably a common practice in the industry that they have a bunch of contractors or third-party vendors they are affiliated with. They send a request to those people according to their preference or priority and it is upon them to call me back to set up the appointment and to confirm it. It was more of a waiting game on my end.
When the first vendor did not call back, I returned a call through HomeServe. I told them I hadn't received any phone call and asked them what was I supposed to do. Some of the representatives were quite honest to say, “Let me try myself and I’ll put you on hold.” It took longer than expected. He said, “I will call you back or give another hour or so.” Then another representative told me, “If they don't call you back, how about Monday or Tuesday?” In the end, Sunday around noontime, they reached out to a different vendor who was willing to come out to service. This was where things became so easy and straightforward. The vendor eventually came out and they did the work. It was a very simple declogging sewer line work. If you have the right tool, it's a piece of cake.
If I'm the one paying the vendor directly, it would be a different story. I have no idea how HomeServe is dealing with more preferred vendors and how the payment is going but I tend to believe they may not have any more interest to satisfy me as a customer due to the arrangement that was made between HomeServe and them directly. But I have no issue whatsoever with the service I'm getting. If the job is satisfactory, that's all that matters. That is what I got on Sunday so I'm happy with it. I will not hesitate to recommend to my friends. Even though they are not directly hired by me, they came out on a Sunday and did a wonderful job at least to complete it.

One of my tenants called me and said that there was a leak in the bathroom faucet. I called HomeServe and the service was prompt. My only complaint is I didn't get a follow-up call for the plumber to tell me what he did. A representative from HomeServe called and told me that in the process of the plumber trying to see what was wrong, because the faucet was old, something broke. He recommended that I replace the faucet. But the tenant was there and she told me he was kind of rough.
Whatever damage the plumber caused was something that I'm now going to have to spend money out of my pocket to replace the whole thing. Also, he should have been the one to call me and tell me what happened. I shouldn't have to wait for HomeServe to call me and relay the information. He should have been upfront and let the customer know exactly what was going on. But the good part was he came on a Sunday and I wasn't expecting that. He was on time and he did what he was supposed to do.

HomeServe is well worth the money. We've had to use them twice for the sewer backup and both times, they were very good. They were very quick in getting back to us. I called them up recently and they set me up. Within 15 minutes, I got a call saying their contractor would be out between 9:00 and noon. The guy called 10 minutes later and said he'd be here in half hour, and he was. He was very good and very punctual. He was wearing a mask and he put slippers on.

I got the furnace working before the contractor came. I called them back and advised them that I got the pilot light lit and the furnace was working. I asked if they could stop quick and look at it to make sure it's alright, and that's what they did. They were going to come the next day. I had to call them back and tell them I was concerned about my pipes freezing. I needed the heat. They said they would come out that day. They were only here for five minutes. They came down, looked at my furnace and left. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. Everything's great. With HomeServe, I'm not having to worry about my furnace, my hot water heater, etcetera.

My mother introduced me to HomeServe and I have them for a couple of years now. They are very efficient and the service is fantastic. I have so many people I've recommended to them. When their contractors come, they do their job. There's no out of pocket when they come in your home. When you have these other people come, before they even look at anything, it's $200 and $300. I had a request with HomeServe last week for my home in Delaware. It was the switch that was turned off in the attic. Their contractor came and turned it back on.

I was pleased with the technician. I did the claim Sunday night and the next morning, about 8:30, he gave me a call and told me was on the way. I was happy with that. He had to go through the mainline then I had another line in my basement he went in. He did a good job and answered any question I had for him. I'd recommend him with somebody else. HomeServe's prices ain’t bad. Stuff happens and you come out your pocket. I’d rather pay that one time upfront and hope I don’t have to use it, but if I do, they all got it.

HomeServe is reliable, fast and professional. I've been affiliated with them for five or more years at this point. Once you sign up for one service, they send you information about a whole lot of other packages that they have. I have five different plans with them, from electrical, to heating system, to sewer lines, to in and outflow plumbing pipes. They've provided services through the years.
They seem to have a good relationship with Total Plumbing which is a local plumbing service. They've been sending them out. This last time, they said, “I see that you've had Total Plumbing come out once. Would you like us to have them again?” I said, “Sure, if they're the first ones that can come out,” and they did arrange to have Total Plumbing. I have another issue with a toilet that I'm having Total Plumbing come out and fix tomorrow because I'm very satisfied with the work they provided. They're very fast to respond especially if there's something that needs immediate consideration. In this case, we had a backed-up sewer pipe so we couldn't use any of the water facilities in the house. They had somebody come out the same day. The process is flawless and people are always friendly on the phone.

The first time I called for this problem was on 11/30/20, the service person supposedly fixed it on 12/08/20. But it was not fixed the right way. The dryer still squeaks. Most of them were very knowledgeable. They took care of the issue. Might have left a hole or two in my walls, but at least the problem was solved. However, I wasn’t pleased with these particular guys. They left out, and they did something, and I knew that that wasn’t the issue. My husband took them downstairs. I hired a contractor because I was having problems with my sewer line. My basement is finished. If anything needs to be done, do it. I don't care about the finish. I care about functions. And they were like, “Oh, well, we got to do…” “Do what you got to do.” Nobody ever came back. Nobody said anything.
I had some other guys one time come out, and they had to cut the sewer line. This was in another home, and it was through HomeServe. They had to cut the sewer line, they do what they do. I already know they can't replace the wall and tiles. I’m not concerned about the finishing. I could get that done. I'm concerned about the function.
And now the guy told me he got the contractor to go in and do this stuff, and I have to pay for this. I was gonna call back and see if I could get some help because I’m paying HomeServe all this money. He said there’s a disconnection from my basement bathroom to the sewer line. Also, I have a sump pump, and all the rubbish goes into it and it’s just sitting there because there’s no connection for the sewer to go out. I knew it was something because we had this problem. I called HomeServe twice. The contractor came out, they went outside. They put a snake or whatever down in there, and they said they cleaned it. “Okay, but we still got a problem.”
I had HomeServe for years. Even in my rentals, I got them for the sake of my family just in case the landlord wanna get a ratchet and not do what they’re supposed to do. As long as I had them, I never had any problems until now. They came through. It was just a few problems here and there. And the contractors came, and they service it. Some of them are really knowledgeable. They tell me, “Okay, we’re doing this, but you need to do this. Or we’re doing this and this needs to be done.” When these other guys came out, they tell me nothing. I had to actually get somebody to come in here to tell me what was going on. Other than that, I recommend HomeServe to my friends. HomeServe covers a lot. It’s just now plumbing.

I just call and HomeServe sets the claim up. The contractor calls me after and they’re usually on time. Sometimes the weather may create some delays but that's normal. It’s like the doctor's office for any appointment, you gotta think, “No one's and never be on time.” It took the contractor three times to actually do something. I didn't like that. The tech kept saying it was working but my daughter said it wasn't. And then they would be in the cold for two days. Anytime there are kids in the house, don't get there and say it's working and then you’re gonna go out again, then come back, “Well, no, they just needed adjusting.” Really look into it because they were cold for two days. After this repair, the contractors' works were fine.

Submitting a service request with HomeServe is very simple. You just call. And then, someone is usually here within a day. United Plumbing was here not long ago. They were great. We have told a lot of our friends who have become first time homeowners that they should take out those protections through the local water company, because I know HomeServe does an array of things but the coverages we have are plumbing type of coverages. Here in Louisville, the plumbing company that they contract with is a very reputable company. It's not someone that's in business today and gone the next day.
The things that HomeServe offers through the water company just because plumbing issues, and I have an older home, are never cheap. Like Thanksgiving Day, my in-laws left and the sink started gurgling. I have all copper piping, but I had a leak one time, the techs came out, took care of it, and they were gone. The guy got here the next day, which, they went ahead and worked us in the schedule and took care of it. He was was super nice. People need to get HomeServe unless they got millions of dollars laying around. Because some plumbing issues can be way up there.

Getting someone to answer the phone was the beginning of the total experience. I selected call back, which they did 9 minutes later. My phone rang once and then they hung up. So begins the call back routine again. Overall, the experience was totally exasperating. I explained the whole incident in my survey the day it transpired. The end result was, I cancelled my service, and will never take it again. The money I've put into this service on my water bills over the years, would have covered a plumber. I've requested to be removed from you solicitation list, as my deceased husband, continually receives the request to cover the hot water heater, and I assure you I will never accept that offer. I know some people swear by you and your coverage, but unfortunately that was not my experience. Unhappy and totally dissatisfied customer.

Hello - I had a plumbing/sewer incident at my property at ** last week, so I call HomeServe with my contract in-hand (containing contract number, property address, my name, my company’s name, phone number, etc.). The customer service representative was clueless and was unable to find any information related to my property or coverage. When she finally found the coverage via my cell phone number, she was insistent that my PO Box (where correspondence is sent) was the “address” for the policy, and she was unable to find ANY reference to the actual property address (**, noted as such on the document I was holding!).
Eventually she was able to confirm that “I” was the policyholder, so she scheduled a plumber...I received email confirmation of the same. THEN, I noticed that my PO Box was listed at the property “address”, so the plumber cancelled! I called back a 2nd and 3rd time, eventually getting passed to the billing department (?) so they could change my address (?) from a PO Box to reflect **. Another plumbing appointment was scheduled, and properly this time, but it took almost 90-minutes of my life to straightened-out what was clearly noted on my contract paperwork (?). The plumbing service was great though.

Ada, thanks so much for your feedback. I have tried calling you and left you a voicemail to explain your contract terms and see if I can assist in any way. Feel free to reach back out to me. Have a great week!
