Now keep in mind the person on the other end might not always be best for your line of work, so you might need a little home knowledge otherwise you might get taken for a ride even with a good contractor as they might not have the approach you need.     HomeAdvisor claims to have a strong system of intervening in case of disputes with contractors. They just check the boxes and hardly do anything to resolve the dispute. Case in point, after I made a formal complaint regarding Victor Lawson (unprofessional contractor I ended up hiring based on HomeAdvisor's paid recommendations and reviews), they were not able to take care of the issue and finally referred me to FairClaims, a third party arbitration settler. FairClaims did the hearing and I was awarded monetary damage but there is no help from neither HomeAdvisor nor FairClaims yet in actually enforcing the award. There is no live person or phone to talk to about it. I have been having a hard time trying to find anyone to respond to my emails.

    Worst thing is, despite this proven formal complaint and the award, HomeAdvisor is still happily putting rave reviews about this contractor on their website. If they were to do this correctly, after the formal complaint and decision, they should take such contractors off their website. I understand they they generate revenue from the contractors for their advertisement but there should also be business ethics bar somewhere there. Consumer like us depend on honest fair review to make our decision on hiring good contractors. With this kind of false reviews and hiding formal complaints and cases, how can consumers like us depend on HomeAdvisor to hire competent good contractors. Stay away from HomeAdvisor. They will not take any responsibility for any wrongdoing and will wash their hands clean after talking nicely with you. Use your own judgement.

    Updated on 08/15/2018: 3 DAYS PAST: Gave my benefit of doubt to HomeAdvisor too soon. They have still not taken the contractor off the site & I am yet to hear back on the help with concrete & practical help to get the award enforced. No one us ever available on phone and FairClaims does not even have a phone option. Potential consumers please be aware if you are thinking about HomeAdvisor. They promise to help resolve formal complaints and will assure you no doubt but on the actual delivery of those promises, there are no promises. I am still getting the runaround, although my complaint has been validated & I have been awarded decisive of monetary compensation claimed. It all means nothing of course if it's not enforced. Let’s see. Waiting. Will keep updating you all.

    HomeAdvisor has listed a company name with our company. The State of Texas will not allow other companies to register a name similar to an existing company name. Our company, Draper Floors is registered with the State of Texas. HomeAdvisor listed a company name of Draper Floor that isn't registered with the State of Texas. We requested HomeAdvisor not to continue to list Draper Floor and they refused our request. Draper Floors has reported this issue to the Secretary of State of Texas.

    Do not sign up as a contractor for this company. Read the fine print, terms and conditions. If you sign up they have the right to use your business name in any way. Including posting on internet sites and rerouting all the incoming call to their company and sending the customers to other contractors. This is legal if you sign. This happened to my son. They basically stole his company so all his customers that he built up are now redirected to another contractor. This is horrible. They also make up other companies with the same name as yours but slightly different so they get all those calls as well. We will be willing to join any class action lawsuit but in the fine print you agree not to do that. I bet there is a way. Any attorneys willing to try?

    My recommendation is that HomeAdvisor allow the consumer to review pro choices and prices BEFORE scheduling. I was surprised to be scheduled right away with a price range of 50 to 500 dollars.     On three different occasions I have had the need for hvac work, what I find is that the ones provided by HomeAdvisor all say that they have the utmost integrity for the customer and highest quality standard. They were also listed as servicing my area, but yet they are apparently such an independent field that they do not respond, but then again the latest request showed that the contractor did service my area and was only approx 10 miles away but when I submitted the request, via the 2 window dropdown menu, it came back that they DO NOT service my area which is in the same county. Go to their website and it clearly shows that my city is listed as one of their service areas.

    When I go to HomeAdvisor chat the person, Christine, tells me that perhaps I should call them to clarify. I came to HomeAdvisor because that is what you say that you do, but apparently not. At other times I have gone to their listed contractors and their reply is, if they reply, they only service the brands that they install. How is that if they are an independent service contractor, if that is the case then they be required to list the brands that they service to avoid misunderstandings and wasting everybody's time.

    I hired three pros through HomeAdvisor and have left 2 reviews of the three required to take part in their $50.00 Awards Program. However, after the fact, I found that I do not get credit for one of my Pros I hired because they were not on the original list submitted to me by HomeAdvisor. I did not like any of the Pros on the first list submitted so I went back in a requested additional Pros. I was not informed that I had to use someone off of the original list submitted to me in order to partake in the Rewards Program. This is totally a deception to the consumer. User beware if you are planning on the $50.00 reward.

    I have tried working with HomeAdvisor several times. HomeAdvisor is a company dedicated to taking care of customers but treats the Contractors that make HomeAdvisor a business to begin with like they have no value whatsoever. I was charged for jobs that the husband signed up to have the work done by a Home Advisor pro and found out his wife had already hired someone outside of HomeAdvisor to have the work done. HomeAdvisor charge all three contractors a fee even though the work had been completed by someone outside the network saying "It was a legitimate job therefore we have to charge you."

    The second time I signed up for HomeAdvisor I had not been using the services so after a year I decided to discontinue my account. I called them to cancel the one year and a couple days after my anniversary date and HomeAdvisor told me since I did not cancel on or before my one year anniversary that I had to pay a whole year or I was threatened they that "we will ruin your credit if you don't pay a whole year to cancel with us." I think someday HomeAdvisor will realize they are NOTHING!!! without the companies that do the work for them.

    When starting my business I decided to use HomeAdvisor. Not only were the leads very very unsuccessful to even say the least HomeAdvisor makes my company look like complete idiots by the horrible and importer grammar used to describe my business down to the misspelling of the city. I have called and called and called. To get them to get my information off there site with still no success. They also laid calm to my business on Google so I cannot even set up a account myself.

    You search my company and it takes you straight to HomeAdvisor then you read the horribly written information on my company and it puts you through to them in which they give my business to others. I am again currently at this moment been trying to contact them. Been on hold for 20 min. A lady answers. Informs me she has to transfer me to another department to handle this in which she transferred back to the beginning again. Where now I have sat on hold for 48 mins. Do not use them. I would not recommend them to anyone. As I have told my business to stay away and explain what I am/have been going through for the last around 6 months now. Lesson learned the hard way and lost a lot of money.

    Recently I spoke to a salesperson at HomeAdvisor (Tv advertisement). I gave her all the info to get started. I changed my mind after review within 24 hours. I called at 9 a.m. Friday to cancel, They charged my card and refuse to return deposit for 30 days, I'm not sure if this legal but I do know it's scammy.

    We received numerous references from HomeAdvisor. The top roofer "Paramount" came out twice (did not provide estimate on first trip) to get an estimate. Many of them never returned our calls. A month later we called Paramount again and he finally came out. The quote was $36000, but they had a sale and knocked the price to $24,000. My neighborhood was hit with a bad storm and most neighbors are having their roofs replaced.

    The going rate is $8000 to $13000. I pretty much kicked this Rep out of my house. What a scam, when I checked reviews they had 1 to 1 1/2 stars (Roofing side of business) on most sites except for HomeAdvisor. I contacted HomeAdvisor to complain, and they tell me to write a review, and I informed them to do their due diligence and check out all the other internet reviews on this company. How can you trust this company, when they don't do their homework? Obviously, this Rep "Low-Life" is totally out of line and preying on older couples to rip off.

    Finding a pro contractor was easy. I hired the contractor, scheduled a review of my job, and contracted the work to LL Michaels Company, Landscape & Home Renovation in Dallas, GA. It was downhill from there. This contractor was a nightmare! He tried to rip me off by charging 2x as much as he settled on (1st bid $1800, negotiated to $975), didn't show up on time for the job, didn't show up as requested when rescheduled, then cancelled on site the day of the appointment because I thought we had agreed that he would "haul" the excess dirt away.

    He then said he'd take the dirt to the back, and when I asked him to "spread" it instead of "pile" it, he said okay, then two minutes after the call, he texted me that he wasn't doing the work because I was trying to get something for free. I didn't realize that "spreading" the dirt instead of "piling" the dirt should cost me more. He then threatened to sue me if I wrote a "bad" review. He texted me multiple email threats saying he was getting a lawyer, going to the police to file harassment charges, and filing a cease and desist order. So, when I contacted HomeAdvisor to write my review, they advised that because no work was done and no money was exchanged, I couldn't write a review.

    What kind of operation won't let the consumer share their 'experience' with one of their so-called 'approved contractors'? Be leery of HomeAdvisor's stamp of approval, because apparently you have no idea how many contractors were fired or quit on the spot for unprofessionalism, unethical behavior, false advertisement, unqualified, bullying, or any other reason that you might decide to reject before your project or home is ruined. These reviews will never show up on the HomeAdvisor's page because unfortunately they don't allow you to share this experience. They actually suggested that I write my review on Yelp or Google. How about they let all consumers who use their resources write a review. Now there's a concept known as 'transparency'.

    We had a good experience with finding a general contractor through Home Advisor. We didn't, however, find great people for projects the contractor didn't do. The wall paper guy we first contacted wasn't responsive enough, for example. And I couldn't find anyone to sew drapes so ordered custom drapes online which was expensive. We found our own company to do cabinet remodels and granite counter tops. Those projects turned out great, so we were lucky. ;-) Overall, Home Advisor is a good company.

    HomeAdvisor call and misrepresent their leads, charging for lead that are not answered, I put the account on hold and asked for someone to call about leads, no returned call, called several times, finally got someone to answer, She told me the account would be cancel and that they would be no charges. Call customer service stating they would not do anything. (Note they state they record all conversations. But the recordings can be change to they advantage or they could lose or destroy the records). Even if they told you they would address the problem, you have to have a e-mail or voice recording to prove it. The customer service rep. stated he believed me about the sales rep, but they have a recording stating I agreed to paying for leads not called.

    This past month's going back to March I had this guy contracting under this lady that had her own cleaning service. I would report her on problems I was having with the guy cleaning and washing clothes and the restroom and making my bed. She have him do another way and again he wouldn't do the job I asked of him. In two months he only changed the sheets on bed once, haphazardly did the sheets and always had me refold what he had folded. He wouldn't clean and mop and in three months only one room had gotten help. It wasn't swept or mopped at any point and he said he would mop the floor and I'd go in and it would be dry.

    I told his boss and he would repeat what I had talked to her about. My concerns is One or both hacked my phone and took all the conversations we had. That is my privately owned phone and although nothing had been taken getting from phone is punishable and I'm going to have that checked. They are two partners in crime and told her that very thing. She is the owner of Marybelle Cleaning - she is high rated (stars 5). I would do further checking on her and her employee is Robert ** into electronics and music. Buyers beware, some things aren't what they seem. Three months one room cleaned and had to refold clothes and I told him I had a bad back and he would say I didn't. You draw your final conclusions. They don't work for me no more.

    Some things you may need to know first: 1 - They are going to charge you around $550.00 upfront to setup an account. 2 - They don't exactly advertise that you pay for the leads generated regardless if you get the job or not like $30.00 per lead up to $65.00 per lead (again it does not matter if you get the job) you still owe each lead. 3 - Your phone and email are going to start blowing up, but 80% of the time even if you call immediately the phone numbers are either invalid, or disconnected (WOW disconnected in only 2 min) and even if it is coincidence you mean to tell me I am supposed to quote a job when this person can't pay their phone bill (It's EITHER THAT OR HomeAdvisor is generating fake leads to run up your bill).

    4 - They also don't exactly advertise that you will be competing with up to 7 other people every single job (The odds aren't exactly in your favor) especially for the $1,500 you will owe at the end of the month for leads and you didn't bring in but $300.00 from the one time the one person did answer and you did get it. Let me be clear as a well established business owner of 3 companies myself (using my Gmail account). HomeAdvisor is a business to make money period end of story, they are not here to help the customers, or the business owners at all. So do not let the gimmicks fool you.

    At the end of the day where the rubber meets the road, you're paying someone up to $1,500 per month to give you phones that don't answer, are disconnected as in like a minute ago, and when you do get to speak with someone you get the comfort of knowing that 7 other people are in front of you to quote the job which is also extra cost in driving, talking, and end up not getting it or even if you do. Let's not forget you still owe HomeAdvisor that monster bill at the end of the month. For the kind of money you're going to invest you could advertise for free on Craigslist, Facebook, Facebook buy sell groups etc. and still pay a full time sales person to hand out your pamphlets and cards in person.

    I needed a patio door repaired so tried HomeAdvisor. I selected Sliding Doors Express. They texted me that night and I set up an appointment for the next day, today between 10-12. They arrived at 12:30 after two calls. I asked the guy where his truck was and he told me he came in his car. Small concern. He came in and replaced two patio door rollers ($225), the lock mechanism ($85) and installed a pin lock ($15). I was shocked by the price thinking around $200. I later called Walts Repair noted for being good but a tad pricey and they quoted me about $225. Concern 2. I think I really overpaid especially since I was serviced by a guy in his car. When paying, I wrote a check to Bluestar Management. The business card that the guy left me was for Tri-County Sliding Door Repair and the sticker left on the patio door listed the company I assumed I was dealing with, Sliding Door Express. Concern 3. I do not think that I will ever use Homeadvisor.com again.

    I found this company through HomeAdvisor and I will never recommend it to anyone, first they never show up the day of the appointment and later they send me an email with a different schedule for the next day, they sent me an electronic certificate although I have already told them that I need the paper copy for the city, it only took a whole week to get it on the mail after I call them two times and when we went to the city they told us it was wrong, one more time I call Landmark to get it fix and this time I talk to a lady call Brianna ** with absolutely no manners and no IDEA what customer service is especially when people pay in advance for a service and she argue with me over the phone for more than 30 minutes until she finally agree to call to my city to find out she was wrong and I know this because in less than 30 minutes I got my elevation certificate fixed, but it does not end here.

    I Email her back asking her to please send me the paper copy with the correct form and when I call today 3 days later they had not sent the paper yet on the mail, they promise they will do that today but I have wasted about 3-4 weeks dealing with this people, not professional at all and all they want is to get your money. HomeAdvisor please don't advertise someone that has such a terrible customer service and don't know what they are doing. This is exactly the reason why people like me use your website so we don't have to deal with this type of situations or these type of people. VERY DISAPPOINTED ON BOTH OF THESE COMPANIES. WILL NEVER USED AGAIN.

    First, I was outright lied to repeatedly by Alex, their sales representative. I was told that the fee for a home inspection lead was $8.99. Alex told me that the leads are only going to 1 or 2 other tradesmen. This statement was an outright lie. Alex told me that there is an over abundance of leads with no tradesmen to fill the leads. Again, an outright lie as I have not gotten one lead in my immediate area. I have him on recording as proof.

    If you want a customer to write a review, they will be given repeated calls by HomeAdvisor. This is a good way to lose customers. Their customer support often is miseducated or ill-equipped to answer questions. I have found only 2 reps out of 12 who actually had accurate information. The charges are often not proportionate with the job. For example, painting a hallway and 2 bathrooms and a bedroom takes 2 days. They take over $90.00 for this lead. This company is everything that is wrong with corporate America.

After 2 weeks I had a callback and never returned, called over several times and there was always some excuse. I got so fed up I gave up calling and it is still not working.     I had a powered roof fan lose its cap while I was 40 miles away. Home Advisor has a category for this type of work, but the organizations on the list are electricians. The one I did work with had no ability to install a new fan, just wire one up that was already installed. After two attempts to get a pro with the projects specified and no returned calls or emails and almost a month with a 14" hole in my roof I tried the "handyman" path and had the fan installed in under a week. Home Advisor need to adjust the pros they line up for powered roof fan installations. My tip, the handyman query always gets good resources.

    When I first found HomeAdvisor 3 years ago I thought the concept was good and everything looked legitimate. So I decided to give it a try and found an HVAC contractor in my area called Service Today. There were over 100 "ratings" with an average rating of 4.9, which would seem to indicate that this company is extremely reputable. So I called them to fix my central AC/heat pump. During my appointment they told me that I had to buy a new unit so being a trusting consumer, I went with their recommendation.

    Since then, I've had nothing but problems with the heat pump. First time was when the weather got warm and I had to use the system in AC mode and the electric bill went through the roof. It took 3 months of them saying that there was nothing wrong despite PSE&G saying electric usage was 4 times that of a normal household, and blaming it on air filters before finally attempting to fix the issue.

    Turns out they incorrectly installed the unit and the emergency HEAT was on even in COOLING mode. This caused the emergency heating elements to prematurely fail. Since then, every 8-12 months there's been another issue and each time it takes them a week to respond and finally send someone to take a look. 3 years later, the only reviews I can find online with Yelp and Google are ALL negative. And on HomeAdvisor, they STILL have a 5 out of 5 rating. There is no way a company this horrible is so highly rated. This is clearly a case of HomeAdvisor faking reviews, presumably because Service Today paid them off.

    I requested a boiler replacement. The plumber was alleged to be a master plumber. On a 12K job, I found out much, much too late that the son, who was only a journeyman level, was posing as his father's business. I think perhaps that the father had retired. Make sure you do your own investigations, though these guys had the same name, up to "Jr", which I wouldn't have known to check. I got royally screwed on this. I will never trust this site again.

You can write a bad review for the company that came." HomeAdvisor should be letting the customers know that there may be a fee associated with the technician coming to give you an estimate.     Recently I inquired about how HomeAdvisor worked for professionals. Miles got in touch with me and answered my questions. At that time I decided it wouldn’t be a good fit for our company and I told Miles that. He wouldn’t take no for an answer. Since then I have been getting harassing emails from him. It’s scary that he also has access to all of my contact information including my address. I’ve politely asked him to remove my information, I’ve been unsubscribing to their emails and for some reason I still get lots of emails for leads and from Miles as well. He crossed the line.     This service can be dangerous. Use at your own risk. I received a phone call from a contractor who started cursing about how he provides the best service and that I should hire him. When I told him that I wasn't interested, he said he will show up to my house anyway and will start work. I am very uncomfortable to say the least. I contacted HomeAdvisor about what was happening and asked for some advice. The rep said that she couldn't help because I didn't have his name or phone number (used private number). The rep actually said that it was my FAULT for using a real address in the request. She kept insisting that I should have filled out the request without the address. When I told her that it cannot be done that way, she then said I should have put in a fake address... Don't use HomeAdvisor. You have no idea who they are sending out your information to. Call the companies yourself, directly.

    Apparently HomeAdvisor either intentionally or unintentionally has delivered my contact information to contractors who are cold calling trying to sell me windows. This line of home services has just cropped up this morning but after 3 calls in 15 minutes it is clear that something is amiss with the Home Advisor data security because I has made no such requests. Since Home Advisor does not seem interested in getting to the bottom of this issue please be advised that using their services or not using their services seems to be a path for getting even more unwanted cold calling from probably bottom of the barrel contractors.

And It seems all of these type sites - HomeAdvisor, Angie's List, Thumbtack...all use the same program. (Or are they all the same company!!) My best resource turned out to be the yellow pages! And there I didn't have to answer questions or give address and phone number!
