I question the low scores for Generac. Our experiences have been exceptional, both with the generator and the generator support team that’s available 24-7. The system is a little techy for me and being able to call them and have a person be patient, knowledgeable and clear to understand to assist is well worth the peace of mind this purchase has provided. On a 1-5 scale, I give them 100!

I bought a new gp9200e. Ran it a few times here and there to make sure it was ready for use. Well time finally came and it's a complete turd. It can't run half what my onan pro6000e did. One 240 leg was gone. After about 6-7 hours the missing leg started working, but not enough to power any 220v devices. It runs poorly, governor bounces constantly, power is inconsistent. If you tighten the fuel cap it draws vacuum and starves itself of fuel after an hour, so the cap must remain loose. It's the most awful piece of junk. My onan was trouble free for over a decade. I hoped this would be an upgrade, but it's nothing but a disappointment. I was going to try and fix it, but it's not worth my time. I could never depend on it. This was my first and last experience with a Generac product. Absolute junk.

Size your generator using a good electrician. Total electric homes may require a larger unit. A 22kw unit w/ tax $7k-7.5k. Insure you can get propane co. To set and fill minimum 500gal tank. Some will not do this if you have no other gas appliances. 500 gal tank and first set and fill around $1,000. Plumber needs to install flex connector and hard black pipe to generator with connection for gas regulator at a minimum of 5' from unit. You will need a $250 battery for the generator also. Plumber may cost $150-$300. Natural gas if available is best option. To insure warranty is valid, have a qualified Generac tech perform the initial startup of your unit. I purchased a 22kw unit with transfer switch and flex connector included. Propane company said I was the last customer they would set, fill and service because I'm total electric and the revenue off of my usage is not very much.

Generac Generator purchased in May of 2021. Serial number: 000000003008290317 Unit Description: 48KW 4.5L 120/240 1P NG AL In the 4+ years we have had this generator, it has NEVER worked. It has NEVER once come on when we have lost power. It has an error of "low coolant." When a technician comes to service, they find that there is NOT low coolant. Generac has replaced the sensor twice. This has not worked.

They are recommending doing this for a third time without any explanation for why this might work seeing as it has not. I was willing to try it a second time. I do not want to do this a third time because every time it is replaced, I then have to wait 6-12 months to see if it will work. Invariably it has not, it just buys more time for Generac to kick the can. I have had to escalate this issue to "Appeals and Grievances" department. I speak to a different person each time who tells me they need to review the information. Despite my servicing company having sent detailed emails with notes of the issue and all previous sensor replacements being managed by Generac as under warranty.

Also, they forgot to plug my freezers in, and I had over $400 where the food go bad, they can care less. They're trying to get more money out of me for additional parts that wasn't in the estimate nor demon quoted to me. The first generator I had installed on Lasted, 5 years in. I had a generator installed Sept 2025 and in less than 30 days Oct 2025 a promotion came out for a 10 year warranty and Generac would NOT give me the better warranty, as a courtesy. WHY NOT??? I'm a Veteran, always hearing "Thank you for your service" well it sure would have been nice to be shown some thanks! It is not an unreasonable request to receive the better warranty especially since I just got my unit installed. If it was a product that could have been returned and repurchased I definitely would have done that, to get the better warranty. The general manager for Generac SHOULD NOT BE PROUD of the customer service rendered to me. I wish I could have spoken to the general manager about this. Absolutely ridiculous not to change my warranty after such a short period of time, and Really Thank a Veteran!!!

Can’t recommend. The 26k generator was installed by a professional company that does HVAC and generators. After the install they told us all the common failures, that wasn’t great. They also told us, “Don’t waste my time with the app. It’s garbage.” The tech said “even Generac tells us don’t use the app.” Well I installed the app anyway and the wifi signal is horribly weak. I installed a $400 outside WiFi extender less than 10 feet from the generator, which brought my signal to a strength of 50% some days, wow; in all fairness the app did tell me the battery was not charging which there was no way of knowing otherwise. After a service call we found out the technician didn’t hook the wires correct at the transfer switch and blamed it on Generac for changing the wiring recently.

The install company told us to run the generator non-stop for 24 hours and they would come service it. We did and at 22 hours we had the company come out to change the oil and at that time they found the motor was terrible noisy, the valve rockers came loose on one side. I asked the technician to check the other side and he said, "No, if it wasn’t making noise the engine should be fine, it was just a fluke on the Generac assembly line." Well, today, maybe 3 months later, the generator is doing its weekly 5 minute run and the valves are clattering away. Apparently from the factory the rocker arms aren’t being tighten correctly, bad employee, torque wrenches aren’t being calibrated?

As a former automotive Master Tech, Auto Center manager and Chrysler automotive instructor I can tell you loose rocket arms can mushroom the top of the valves, bend push rods, and do major damage. I have seen on the internet and YouTube that this happens from time to time with Generac and I don’t understand why? Why do they have starter failures at 2 years and the host of other problems the technicians know about? This is just disappointing and a huge waste of money. The technician also told us if the generator last more than 10 years we would be the exception, not the rule. Wow. The salesperson certainly didn’t tell us how unreliable Generac is when they came out! At this point we think Generac should just replace the entire unit with another new unit.

The idle control coil lock nut came loose which vibration caused the screw to push the speed arm causing the engine to rev high & causing the motor to blow out the circuit board. Getting it back running was what I have done but can't find adjustment for that coil arm. I have been trying since Feb 2025, messaging customer service, hoping someone will help with my simple fix. Needless to say you never get the same person to help on my ticket. Every message sent comes back with a new representative giving some worthless information that I've already know about or tried. Again and again sending multiple messages with the same circle back with worthless information like they don't read any information before the last one pertaining to the ticket.

Tried to get them to send me to a upper manager which comes back with suggestions not about my issue. What is customer service without a tier two support group to help. I had to purchase a generator quickly for our many power outages online until I got the 7500 fixed. Since my 7500 was reliable and worked great for dozen years, I was stupid and purchased another Generac.

We purchased our 24k Generac a little over a year ago. So our generator is a little over a year old. It worked fine until we had a complete power outage a few months back. The generator fired up and we had power to all appliances except our A/C. This brings me to when we first had the little guy come to our home to go over the size needed and what we wanted powered during an outage. Our major concern was having A/C during any power outage because we live in the heart of Louisiana where the temperatures are always extremely humid. The generator suggested to us by the salesman was our 24k Generac. We questioned him extensively about this generator powering our A/C and he lied and said this generator is what we wanted. There was no mention of added devices such as their (SMM) smart management module.

So when the power went out and our A/C wouldn't come on, we contacted our service department, told them about the problem and an appointment was scheduled. The first tech to show up ran his tests and performed our first maintenance. He later said that the reason our A/C didn't come on was because the (SMM) was either bad or the electrician installed the wrong part. So we scheduled a second appointment to replace the bad part. Ok so when this guy returned they went into our attic and determined that the wrong size (SMM) was installed and that they would have to order a replacement and that I would get a new appointment. Well after almost a month and no one from our maintenance company called, I called them and was told the part was not under warranty.

So I called Generac directly and was told they were not responsible and I would have to work this out with my maintenance company. Well I don't need to tell you they wouldn't budge. I got a quote of $396.97 for a part that should have still been under warranty. So if you are searching for a generator and you want a Generac I highly suggest you do not purchase a unit that requires a (SMM) Smart Management Module. From the reviews I have read Generac is quite aware that their (SMM) units are trash and have failed to fix this issue, so yes Generac is still selling these (SMM) units to customers knowing upfront these units are not going to last a full year.

My suggestion is if you really want a Generac generator my suggestion would be to purchase a unit that does not require a (SMM) module, otherwise get ready to replace this unit every single year at nearly 400 bucks a pop. Now if you decide to have a Generac installed, go into your attic and look for the part in the photo I have provided, if you have this module connected to your A/C, you are in deep maintenance trouble because these are not covered under warranty for any reason or at any time. Please note this system gave me the option to upload one photo which was no problem, but the system also gave me the option to add a receipt but I received a error message stating the image exceeded the maximum size of (% MB), a lot of help that was.

Said it would be a few weeks to get me my money back. No harm no foul. Next customer gets the generator. Reach out several more times till he tells me there is a no refund policy. He screwed me out of 9k. Reach out to generac to complain and they tell me it’s out their hands. So generac is ok with their dealers sticking customers for deposits. The unit ran fine for 15 hours, then quit. I got an emergency repair ($1000+) and it ran another 15 hours and quit. Now it needs about a $1200 repair of the generator system. My latest purchase showed how horrible Generac support for their dealers and customers really is. Once installed and start up took place within 3 minutes there were horrible noises coming from it and my technician shut it down immediately. After a tear down by my installer to find out the cause it became apparent that the generator had been assembled incorrectly in the magneto area. Once new parts arrived and installed it also became apparent that there was more damage done by the start up in the flywheel area.

Next Generac would not replace the unit for my dealer… He was honorable and decided to do that on his own. They insisted on keeping the start date of the faulty unit as of original start update… Also Generac makes dealers pay for their units in full on start up… You guessed it.. Now my dealer had to pay for 2 of them even though the first one was worthless. If Generac can’t supply better support for their dealers/consumers I’d consider Kohler or some other brand.

Stay away! They took my $13,000 3 months ago and cannot tell me when I could get a generator. Even worse the dealer has no knowledge, so they grab your cash and tell Canadians to sit on it! Customer service writes to you with a code to simply say we have no clue where you are in the cue and when you could expect a unit. Is this 2025? Got to think you can track orders? Horrible experience

My generator has malfunctioned since day one. Every time I call to have someone come repair it, the appointment is over a month away. The help line is very unhelpful. The nearest dealer is over an hour away, and they usually "can't find the problem" till the second or third visit.

Go with Generac Generators via Canteer Power if you live in SC (over 70 years in business) for your generator needs. They only specialize in Generac and you don't have to wait. The came in over $1K less and didn't have to go through the attic, etc. Finance interest free via H Depot like I did. 24/7 remote monitoring, 10 year warranty. Don't be without power. Generac, only the best.

The motor stopped working correctly on our 14KW Generac Generator. Fortunately, it was covered under warranty. MS Solar ordered the replacement motor at the end of Oct 2024. At the end of Dec 2024, we still had no probable delivery date on the motor. I had to repeatedly call MS Solar during Nov and Dec to inquire as to the status of the replacement motor. They did no follow-up on their own--my inquiries triggered their follow-up. Frustrated at going two months with no generator, I asked the owner to call me. He/she did not. Instead, I received a text message from their staff, reconfirming that they had ordered the part in late Oct. I finally bypassed MS Solar and called Generac directly. They provided me with a shipping date. Does it REALLY take two months for Generac to fulfill its warranty promises? This is NOT the service we paid for.

My XT8000E starts usually very good but I use non ethanol gas and a fuel stabilizer. The hour meter failed though at around 23 hours I believe and had to buy another and found they are rather high priced. For some reason, it wasn't designed to charge the battery when running which is a flaw. If you read the manual, you will find the valve clearance is supposed to be adjusted at 50 hours. If you want to do the valve adjustment yourself, it’s best to get a service manual. It can be challenging to get a service manual though from a dealer I found but a digital pdf version doesn't cost anything.
