New residential generator in Dec 2024, spent months trying to connect wifi to mobile app with numerous |Generac tech service agents. New generator had old technology 2.4G wifi module. Generac offered to sell me a new generation wifi module ~$250 for my new generator (ugh). Turns out after a service tech visit that the wifi module and wifi ID label were mismatched at the factory! No amount of attempts by me would have fixed the issue, had I purchased the new wifi module their manufacturing defect would have been concealed. There is obviously another customer with the same issue somewhere. Poorest level of Customer satisfaction I have ever encountered. No commitment to Customer satisfaction or ownership of manufacturing defects! Buy another brand!

At first I was very happy and excited about my new generator! The installation staff was very helpful and professional! But as a new client, I had to deal with some « situation « that needed to be explained! I called the head office in Ontario! The guy (owner) said he’d send a technician! Not only he didn’t, but he got upset when I called him back the day after!! He said he’d send wouldn’t send me a technician each time there is a power outage!! He was very impatient!! I had to call the sales man whom I dealt with, and he said he’d send wouldn’t would send someone to look at the situation, but 2 days later, no one has showed up yet!! Maybe it’s too soon for me to review this service, but I am definitely not impressed by the way things have been handled yet!!!
Hopefully someone will show up and reassure me about this situation!! My generator has been shut off because I am scared of the red light which is supposed to show an emergency!! A bit disappointed! But I think that the product is reliable and the staff is knowledgeable and reliable (except that the owner has a short temper)! Too bad!! Thanks.

Worst company ever, I spent over 80K cash in Pwrcell equipment with standby generator in Dec of 2022. Still does not work in 2025, never has worked and they just keep sending people out here to do nothing. I was part of the BETA test program and assured by Generac I would be upgraded if anything needs it to ensure the system would work. I live in SW FL and so far during every power outage, this thing just fails and the inverter trips and fails. Major run around, never buy this Pwrcell junk, just get a regular generator and skip the green energy nonsense. Try Briggs and Stratton, better equipment and better warranty.

I have had a simple issue with my 7500exl Generac portable. I have been working to have customer service help direct me to a engineer or technical person to help with my issue. The idle control coil lock nut came loose which vibration caused the screw to push the speed arm causing the engine to rev high & causing the motor to blow out the circuit board. Getting it back running was what I have done but can't find adjustment for that coil arm. I have been trying since Feb 2025, messaging customer service, hoping someone will help with my simple fix. Needless to say you never get the same person to help on my ticket. Every message sent comes back with a new representative giving some worthless information that I've already know about or tried. Again and again sending multiple messages with the same circle back with worthless information like they don't read any information before the last one pertaining to the ticket.
Tried to get them to send me to a upper manager which comes back with suggestions not about my issue. What is customer service without a tier two support group to help. I had to purchase a generator quickly for our many power outages online until I got the 7500 fixed. Since my 7500 was reliable and worked great for dozen years, I was stupid and purchased another Generac.

We purchased our 24k Generac a little over a year ago. So our generator is a little over a year old. It worked fine until we had a complete power outage a few months back. The generator fired up and we had power to all appliances except our A/C. This brings me to when we first had the little guy come to our home to go over the size needed and what we wanted powered during an outage. Our major concern was having A/C during any power outage because we live in the heart of Louisiana where the temperatures are always extremely humid. The generator suggested to us by the salesman was our 24k Generac. We questioned him extensively about this generator powering our A/C and he lied and said this generator is what we wanted. There was no mention of added devices such as their (SMM) smart management module.
So when the power went out and our A/C wouldn't come on, we contacted our service department, told them about the problem and an appointment was scheduled. The first tech to show up ran his tests and performed our first maintenance. He later said that the reason our A/C didn't come on was because the (SMM) was either bad or the electrician installed the wrong part. So we scheduled a second appointment to replace the bad part. Ok so when this guy returned they went into our attic and determined that the wrong size (SMM) was installed and that they would have to order a replacement and that I would get a new appointment. Well after almost a month and no one from our maintenance company called, I called them and was told the part was not under warranty.
So I called Generac directly and was told they were not responsible and I would have to work this out with my maintenance company. Well I don't need to tell you they wouldn't budge. I got a quote of $396.97 for a part that should have still been under warranty. So if you are searching for a generator and you want a Generac I highly suggest you do not purchase a unit that requires a (SMM) Smart Management Module. From the reviews I have read Generac is quite aware that their (SMM) units are trash and have failed to fix this issue, so yes Generac is still selling these (SMM) units to customers knowing upfront these units are not going to last a full year.
My suggestion is if you really want a Generac generator my suggestion would be to purchase a unit that does not require a (SMM) module, otherwise get ready to replace this unit every single year at nearly 400 bucks a pop. Now if you decide to have a Generac installed, go into your attic and look for the part in the photo I have provided, if you have this module connected to your A/C, you are in deep maintenance trouble because these are not covered under warranty for any reason or at any time. Please note this system gave me the option to upload one photo which was no problem, but the system also gave me the option to add a receipt but I received a error message stating the image exceeded the maximum size of (% MB), a lot of help that was.

Never purchase a Generac generator. They have zero oversight and will allow their dealers to steal your deposit. I hired ACH electric out of Lambertville NJ to do my job. Gave him 9k in December of 23. Kept calling every two weeks. Told I’m next in line. Family had a life changing event in March of 2024. Called to cancel job which he had dragged out. Said it would be a few weeks to get me my money back. No harm no foul. Next customer gets the generator. Reach out several more times till he tells me there is a no refund policy. He screwed me out of 9k. Reach out to generac to complain and they tell me it’s out their hands. So generac is ok with their dealers sticking customers for deposits. I’m thinking about suing federal and ACH Electric. Don't buy Generac products.

Installed in 2013. Maintenance of $160 per year. Used for a total of 130 hours since then. This includes recently, when my local utility went down for 3+ days in the heat. The unit ran fine for 15 hours, then quit. I got an emergency repair ($1000+) and it ran another 15 hours and quit. Now it needs about a $1200 repair of the generator system. So there you have it, 130 hours and the electrical l system is worn out. It is useful for some short term convenience, but never again will my family have security in owning a Generac.

New generator install by FA Electric. Dropped off and pad mounted one day, installed in one full day after propane hooked up. Competitive pricing. Very knowledgeable and detail-oriented during estimate and install. Checked heat pump specs to make sure generator model was adequate. Inside panel work, transfer box, and load sheds very neat and orderly. Highly recommend.

I have purchased and installed 3 whole house generators in 3 houses. 2 Kohlers and 1 Generac. The Kohlers were very reliable and service was excellent. The Generac is at best mediocre in reliability and local service is terrible. I called for warranty repair. The service tech came to the house, declared nothing wrong and left then they sent me a bill for $200. 2 weeks later the engine failed in the same way. I called and they said they would not fix it unless I agreed to pay for it because I installed the gas regulator too close to the engine. In reviewing the installation guidelines, there is no spec on that. Do not buy Generac!

We have purchase a whole house system because we are on oxygen and have b-paps and c-paps for sleeping. We have had it installed for over 4 years and it never has come on in emergency. It tests fine once a week. I have now felt this is one of the worst investments ever and would never do this again. We have had service, but they have yet to find a solution. They are just waiting for the warranty to run out. This is not and reputable American company. Their claims are false and need to be removed from service. Some clients need this protection to work for health reasons.

This is my 4th Generac generator I have had installed by various Generac authorized dealers. All of the installers have been knowledgeable and professional. My latest purchase showed how horrible Generac support for their dealers and customers really is. Once installed and start up took place within 3 minutes there were horrible noises coming from it and my technician shut it down immediately. After a tear down by my installer to find out the cause it became apparent that the generator had been assembled incorrectly in the magneto area. Once new parts arrived and installed it also became apparent that there was more damage done by the start up in the flywheel area.
Next Generac would not replace the unit for my dealer… He was honorable and decided to do that on his own. They insisted on keeping the start date of the faulty unit as of original start update… Also Generac makes dealers pay for their units in full on start up… You guessed it.. Now my dealer had to pay for 2 of them even though the first one was worthless. If Generac can’t supply better support for their dealers/consumers I’d consider Kohler or some other brand.

We had an authorized dealer install a Generac Solar System complete with a backup storage system less than two years ago. It has the attached remote viewing system so that Generac can check on it at any time. We built the new heated shed to house the battery backup. The installation company has gone out of business. The backup system went down last November. We have made numerous calls and emails to Generac customer service. They say they have not been able to locate any service personnel to work on it. I called the nearest company I could find which services Generac, but they don't do warranty work. We are making payments higher than any benefit we have received from the solar panel working alone without the backup system. Our Generac system has been nothing but a money pit to us.

When you purchase your Generac generator, that is just the beginning of your costs. Then it suggested you buy a maintenance contract which will cost at least $395 per year. Otherwise all warranty calls come with a diagnostic fee to get someone out to check/fix the problem. The Generators come Wi-Fi equipped, but the free Wi-Fi app from Generac does very little except receiving countless push notifications. [You can’t even crank the generator using the “free” app]. You’re invited to upgrade the app for another fee per year to make your Wi-Fi fully functional.

I have a Generac micro inverter system. My installer replaced a unit under warranty. When he contacted support to have it provisioned, they may have provisioned it incorrectly, two days later the unit was no longer showing any voltage. He opened a support ticket but no one from Generac would reply. To help get support I called the number on the case. After being transferred a few times I was unable to to get support. I asked them to formally escalate the lack of support but they refused. Despite a warranty replacement of a Generac micro inverter unit and subsequent failure, I have received no support from Generac. The installer believes the replacement unit was incorrectly provisioned, leading to a zero-voltage state. Both the installer's support ticket and my direct calls have been ignored. Generac has also refused my request for formal escalation of this issue. Terrible after sales support!

Our Generac Home Generator is 3 years old. I purchased the generator with a 7-year warranty. Two weeks ago, I noticed that the indicator light was red, so I called the dealer (after 5 PM on Friday), got a recording, and left a message to call me on Monday. I waited until noon and no call. I called the dealer, and they said that they would have a technician out the next day. The tech arrived and diagnosed the problem and was gone in less than 30 minutes.
The company tried to sell me a wi-fi system so they could diagnose the problem from the office. They wanted 49.00 per year for this service which should be included with the warranty. Today I received a bill for 230 dollars for that service call. I called the company and they told me the problem was not covered by the warranty. When you buy a total coverage warranty for your generator, it should cover everything not just specific parts. Each part of the generator and the system has a different degree of warranty, ie. 7 yrs 5 yrs, 3 yrs. When you buy the generator and system the salesperson does not tell you all the details. They just say there is a 7-year warranty. That is very misleading. I am going to pay the bill but I am not very happy with the misrepresentation by the company about their warranty.

We bought a Generac generator for our home, expecting it to work during emergencies. However, during the hurricane in July 2024, the generator failed to start, even though we had it serviced and were told it would work while we were away. When we returned a week later, our house smelled awful, and we lost hundreds of dollars worth of food. It’s now January 2025, and we still haven’t been able to get anyone from Generac to help us. We’ve tried calling and emailing multiple times, but all we get are automated responses. Their customer service is terrible, and we’re extremely disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend Generac to anyone.

Go with Generac Generators via Canteer Power if you live in SC (over 70 years in business) for your generator needs. They only specialize in Generac and you don't have to wait. The came in over $1K less and didn't have to go through the attic, etc. Finance interest free via H Depot like I did. 24/7 remote monitoring, 10 year warranty. Don't be without power. The motor stopped working correctly on our 14KW Generac Generator. Fortunately, it was covered under warranty. MS Solar ordered the replacement motor at the end of Oct 2024. At the end of Dec 2024, we still had no probable delivery date on the motor. I had to repeatedly call MS Solar during Nov and Dec to inquire as to the status of the replacement motor. They did no follow-up on their own--my inquiries triggered their follow-up. Frustrated at going two months with no generator, I asked the owner to call me. He/she did not. Instead, I received a text message from their staff, reconfirming that they had ordered the part in late Oct. I finally bypassed MS Solar and called Generac directly. They provided me with a shipping date. Does it REALLY take two months for Generac to fulfill its warranty promises? This is NOT the service we paid for.

My XT8000E starts usually very good but I use non ethanol gas and a fuel stabilizer. The hour meter failed though at around 23 hours I believe and had to buy another and found they are rather high priced. For some reason, it wasn't designed to charge the battery when running which is a flaw. If you read the manual, you will find the valve clearance is supposed to be adjusted at 50 hours. If you want to do the valve adjustment yourself, it’s best to get a service manual. It can be challenging to get a service manual though from a dealer I found but a digital pdf version doesn't cost anything.

They called 2 days before asking for payment and trying to say I never schedule an appointment. Why would I call a month earlier if not to get. They didn't care. Spoke to customer service. She promised to keep the original date. No one showed up. It's humiliating. I'm done.
