My GE washer is approximately six years old. The bleach dispenser has rusted along with the top of the tub. This machine just vibrated across the floor due to not being able to balance the load, leaving rust particles on the floor. So apparently the body of the machine has also rusted. I have also had rust spots on my laundry. I've hated this machine from day one and am replacing soon. Will never buy another GE appliance

I bought the top of the line GE front load washer. Wifi enabled, app included, steam, sanitize, venting, auto soap dispenser. It's a gorgeous blue color. It's busted after 14 months and GE will not honor anything on the warranty except the motor. First, the front dial stopped lighting up at each feature. So I could only choose 4 wash modes. Of the modes it allowed me to select, Normal was one so I relegated myself to no longer being able to use the fancy sanitize and steam clean. Then it stopped draining water after the spin cycle. I'd have to pull out the front panel, pull the filter and self drain the washer. Now it has stopped spinning clothes. There is NO SPIN CYCLE.
It's fourteen months old and I paid over A THOUSAND DOLLARS for this blue paperweight. I called GE for repair, they sent someone out for $118 dollars to tell me that repairs on the washer would be $895. I'm so upset and being robbed by GE, they took my money and sold me garbage. Do not trust the GE name, it's not what it used to be.

Washer is suppose to be a top of line machine, with large load capacity. It shakes like crazy on spin cycle. Can’t even handle minimal loads without fierce shaking. Don’t waste your money or Time. Buy another brand at lesser price and enjoy doing laundry. I generally don’t leave negative reviews, but I’m so frustrated with this machine I’d recommend staying away from GE products

I have purchased GE washers most of my Life, My first GE Washer was used, and it lasted me 10 years no issues, it belong to my Aunt and she had it 10 years! I really do not understand why GE Changed the program! It wasn't broken. Why did you change the washers! I guess it always breaks down to corporate wanting more money and the customers pay the price, this GE Quiet Wash Direct Drive is the worst machine I have ever owned, it will not spin out the wash and it goes into balancing mode again and fills the tank back up with water again! And still does not spin out correctly, I have to manually balance the clothes.
I am 5 ft tall and have to get on a stool to fix the clothes, such a shame. I really hate it for the younger Generation, they will never know what true quality was. I will never buy another GE Product. I never give reviews, however I really hope I can help someone not make the wrong decision like I did.

I purchased the GE washer and dryer with the vent system for our new build. After 2 years, it began leaking from the bottom, the fabric softener would not drain from the drawer, and the electronic dial began skipping over cycles, not allowing me to select the cycle I wanted. The technician came out and told me nothing was under warranty and would cost almost $1000 to fix it. I will never buy another GE appliance again.

BEWARE!! We purchased the stackable Sapphire Blue washer machine. Day of delivery the door broke by just taking off the wrappings. We were told by the delivery guys that this is common. That should have told me to return the item. Just one month, over a year from purchase 3 issues with the door lock and there is no manual release. The motherboard need to be replaced which te informed best would be over $400 NOT including initial visit and labor. I might as well buy a brand new washing machine. But will definitely not be going with G.E. I've had too many problems with this brand. Another hard lesson learned.

Do not buy new washing machines. My first GE washer bought in the 1980s was a simple, but durable washer. I got 25 years with it with zero problems. My second washer also a GE lasted 14 years. I had to get a new one 4 years ago. I feel sorry for the younger generations because as time goes on the quality goes down. Now They double the price and make them like cheap disposable razors. The computers were not necessary, nor are the stupid lid locks that get stuck. The one I bought in 2020 is junk but it cost a lot more than they used to. There are people that rebuild and sell the old school washers. Find one of those. GE should hire the people that rebuild the old school washers and learn to build washers the way they used to. People Buy refurbished old school washers. They are small businesses that sell them.
We need to force GE to go back to quality or go bankrupt. The one I bought in the year 2020 has been trash. The older ones were sturdy, didn't make you beg for water, didn't have lid locks that get stuck. This one is now dripping water in the drum when it is off. My brother bought a rebuilt old one from the 80s from a small business instead of a new one and he doesn't have any problems with that rebuilt old one like I do with the brand new one I bought in 2020. G E used to be awesome. They get worse each time. We need the old school washers back.
The water levels were simple low, medium large and max. If the old ones got off balance you could just lift the lid, it stopped, you rearranged the clothes, closed the lid and it started back up. With these newer ones you hit pause and sometimes it will stop sometimes it doesn't. Then the lid lock will not release. I have had to literally unplug this newer to get it to stop banging the wall. Then it drain itself and starts over when the load was almost finished. It doesn't have the knob like my old one where you could set it to start at final spin.

Machine purchased in 2019, also purchased 5 year extended warranty policy. Approximately one month later the first issue, it is determined to be the motherboard [control board]. It's replaced. A short time later issue arises same, motherboard is replaced, and then a bit later [this time relying on memory] another memory board is replaced. From when the machine was put into service till the last service date [2022] there were five or six service calls placed, only on service report given to me.
As stated earlier purchased was a 5 year extended warranty, as I thought it was a 3 year policy. Now to the core of the issue, the motherboards [control boards] as manufactured were bad, hence the replacements. Recently happened to come across receipts and found a actually is was a 5 year policy, not 3. Current status of the machine, motherboard is bad; action: called GE support, no help, they will however provide in home service, the cost well no discount or allowance. My personal background is having worked with computer vendors for over 19 years, and when defective boards were discovered they would be replaced. Now on the bright side, the hardware appears to be quite sound at this point.

Purchased all GE profile appliances for a new build. EVERY SINGLE one of them has given us trouble. The washing machine detergent dispenser has never worked, I finally pulled it out because it was only collecting water that would grow mold. Not exactly what I want growing in my washing machine. Refrigerator water dispenser locks randomly all day long and does produce very much ice. If we have company at all we have to buy supplemental ice. Range control display cover has deteriorated and cracked at corners for no reason, replaced once about a year ago and it is back to the same ugly cracked cover. The light in the microwave has already gone out, these appliances are only 2 years old. Never again.

I have never in my life hated an appliance as much as I hate my GE washer. I bought an inexpensive model because I'm old-school and it looked like I didn't have to be a programmer to be able to use it - not too many bells and whistles, so I assumed it would just be a good, basic model. From Day 1, it was unsatisfactory. Didn't get the clothes clean, just basically washed the dirt enough so that I could transfer it to my dryer and have it end up in the lint trap. Within less than 3 years, the lid switch went and it started leaking. I replaced the lid switch and decided to live with the leak. Now it's unresponsive - "Oh, what, you want me to do something? Try again!" Takes forever to get a load going, pressing freaking buttons and raising and lowering the lid. Never another GE.

DON’T BUY GE!!!! This is the WORST washing machine EVER!! About 1 out of 10 loads will actually go through the entire washing cycle. The other 9 times I have to reposition the items being washed so that the machine will go through the spin cycle. There is a “balancing” function after the rinse cycle & before the spin cycle. WHAT A WASTE OF MY TIME!!!! This machine doesn’t balance the load, it pushes the entire load into a ball on one side of the tub. I might as well be washing my clothes by hand. Oh, and have I mentioned that this machine leaves black streaks on our clothes. No mater how I clean the tub or what products I use to clean the tub before I wash our clothes, they come out with black streaks. DON’T BUY A GE WASHING MACHINE!!!!

Updated on 08/16/2025: If I could give them a below 0, I would. I bought this washer and dryer set March 2025, made by GE and it has been a nightmare, I have had to call for repairs just about every other week, they won't replace it. They won't let me talk to someone higher up. Worst washer and dryer I have ever owned. I used up my savings to buy this set so I wouldn't have problems as I am a disabled senior and like I said it's been a nightmare. Many parts replaced and still having to have them replaced again, What is up GE? You can't admit I got a lemon of a set??? Never buy a GE product, I had problems with a glass top stove of GE's also. Someone from GE make this right!!!!
Original review: I have just bought a GE washer and dryer, it's been a week now. I was looking for appliances with very little electronics and wanted to be able to have control of the water level, that is why I went with the set I got. Well, first is doesn't really let you control the level of water, just just gives you the illusion that you can. Second I even told Home Depot I was having issues from day one and they refused to bring another washer out, the lights won't shut off when the load is finished. You have to pull the plug for lights to go off, I even let it go to see if lights would go off after 10 min but no they were on for over 8 hours. So now only 1 week old I'm having to have new parts put on. What crap!
Then the dryer has a big safety issue, Most of the newer dryers that have the vent in the door have a cover that keeps the lint from falling into the dryer, but not this dryer. When you go to pull the lint filter out the lint falls into the dryer. Oh and the dryer just burned my quilt. I was really hoping to give a good review but I can't. Oh and with all the technology today you would think one thing they could do is make the washer lid not fall so hard and fast as it broke my little finger and it was black and blue.

Total garbage. I spent $925 on a GE high efficiency front loader washer in late 2022 (and $995 on the matching dryer). In 2 years the washer required 2 repairs totaling nearly $700. Of course none of it is under warranty. The second repair took 2 weeks to get an appt and then another 2 weeks to get the repair, so we also spent hours and over $100 at the laundromat. Next time this machine breaks I am going to video tape us taking a sledgehammer to it and posting it publicly. Stay away from this machine, and its matching dryer unless you want mismatched appliances.

Avoid This Washer & Dryer Combo! We purchased the GE 5.0 Cu. Ft. High-Efficiency Stackable Smart Front Load Washer and its matching dryer in November 2023, and it was a huge disappointment from the start. Washing performance: Clothes never felt truly clean, even after a full cycle. To get somewhat decent results, we had to run a pre-wash, making each load take around two hours—far from efficient. Drying issues: The dryer, even on the "most dry" setting, left clothes damp, requiring multiple cycles to finish the job. The worst part? By February 2024, the washer completely broke down. Fortunately, our Best Buy warranty kicked in, but after multiple repair attempts, they couldn’t fix it and ultimately gave us store credit—for the washer only.
Now, we’re forced to replace both appliances since we refuse to buy another GE washer, which means our GE dryer is useless too. I’m selling a $1,000 dryer for $100 on Facebook Marketplace—if that tells you anything about its value. When shopping for a replacement, I met another frustrated GE owner at Best Buy who had the same experience—his washer broke after just two years, and the repair cost wasn’t worth it. Bottom line: Stay far away from GE washers and dryers. They are unreliable, inefficient, and simply not worth the money. Shame on you, GE.

We purchased this GE washer after returning an LG washer thinking that Made in the USA would be better. WRONG!! It has been a disaster. Had GE Service twice and the issue is still unresolved (the 20 year old LG works better). If you only have 1 item in the washer, for example a queen bed sheet, it will not spin. The water remains in the twisted, knotted sheet at the bottom of the washer. In order for it to spin all of the waster out of the sheet you must manually either twist the water out of the sheet or use a 1920's clothes ringer. I bought GE Profile Top Loader washing machine and dryer 6/23. We bought GE Profile appliances in years past and assumed they were still as good. We were wrong. Even though we have been happy with the machine, overall, we are so extremely frustrated that during the drain and spin cycle it makes so much noise as the drum hits the sides of the washer. I'm talking noise so loud we can hear it at the other end of the house and even in the garage. There is no way I can do laundry in the early morning when my son is still sleeping. If I wash a blanket or a few rugs, on really any cycle, it makes noise during the drain and spin cycle. I've had to use that cycle a few times before the clothes are dry enough to out into the dryer.
We have contacted GE a few times and no one has been able to fix the noise. One repairman said the parts are made cheaply overseas and that there is nothing more they can do. Today, 1/9/2025, we purchased a new GE Profile front Loader. We had no choice but to get another GE washer as we bought the blue and wanted a matching set. Hopefully the front loader will be better. Purchased a new dryer, with stack kit and cord totaling $894.62 on 9/30/24. I picked up dryer at Lowe's on 10/4/24, took home, installed, and continued to use until it failed 11/10/24. I filed for warranty service, on GE website, on date of failure, which referred me to their warranty repair company, and I scheduled a service appointment on 11/13/24. Service tech arrived in an unmarked vehicle, likely being his personal vehicle. I had to loan him a step ladder, since he evidently his employer didn't furnish one. As he was working on the dryer, in the bathroom, I was working in the kitchen, just outside the bathroom door, as this is a new home. I could hear at least 6 screws hit the floor as he worked on taking the dryer apart. About 30 minutes later he said "the motor was bad", and he's have to get approval to replace, and order the parts, and would return in approximately 10-14 days.
After he left, I went in to the bathroom and saw a screw laying on the floor he didn't bother to reinstall, I have no idea where it was left out of. I also noticed damage to the baseboard, minor scuffing of the corner of the wall, and a chip in the finish of the side panel of the dryer. Every appliance I purchased was unboxed at the store and inspected for damage. There was none.
I called GE and explained to them I wanted a new dryer to replace this one because they sent unqualified service repair, and I would have zero faith in any repairs they would make, meaning after any warranty expired I would be vulnerable to pay repairs for any poorly made repairs, I was refused, and told they would send the same 3rd party repair company back out, as it seems there's no one actually qualified, nor GM certified to make repairs on their appliances. She (Tina) claimed she tried to get one of their actual service techs to look at the dryer, but "there were none in my area", so evidently that subjects me to whatever subpar service they force upon me. I want a new dryer.

Bought a GE top-loading washer from Lowes when my Roper died, after 22 years! Bought a brand new GE washer for $700 since I thought I deserved a new appliance. Worst purchase ever! Should have had the Roper fixed since it was old school, not filled with electronics and motherboards like the garbage they make today. As a single person, I wash a load or two every other week. In less than 2 years, the washer won't fill or spin and there are multiple suggested fixes on their site, each cost adds up to what I paid for the washer new. Thought I could trust a well known name brand appliance, but GE doesn't have a good track record these days, as evidence by all the 1 star ratings on their washers.
Never buy a GE washer! Will now purchase an older, refurbished washer with no electronics, for less than a third of the price. GE building trash appliances is hurting the people who can least afford to pay top dollar only to have to replace or fix their junk washers shortly afterwards. If they have confidence in their appliances, they would add a longer warranty since they seem to break soon after the warranty expires. Pay the extra money and buy a speed queen!

We bought a GE profile washer. On the higher end of their appliances from what the rep we talked to said. We haven’t even had it 30 days and something went wrong to the point it would not drain or spin. I called GE and got the run around for 2 days. It was number after number after number. Couldn't get the answers we needed or an RA# to be able to return it. We are a household of 8…6 being kids! I got ahold of someone finally to have someone come out and look at it only to have them after I sent pictures and video of what it was doing cancel my appointment, said they were looking into the problem to decide whether to just order parts or send someone out to diagnose the issues. So therefore they were guessing what could had been wrong with it. Again this washer was less than 30 days old. Two weeks after we had it the soap dispenser broke which really was whatever we use pods anyway.
After they canceled my appointment to have some come look at it. It took them almost 24 hours to respond back to me and claiming I didn’t respond back to them which I again have proof that I did! At this point I’m just wanting my money back to get a different washer. Well because I had it longer than 48 hours without returning it there wasn’t anything they were willing to do. Wouldn’t give us a RA# nothing. I get the text today now being without a washer for 3 days now saying it would possibly be a week before they could make it out to look at it. I’m like that’s not going to work. My father in law passed May 21st of this year our old washer a Maytag which was amazing went out not even a month after he passed. We go to Lowe’s to get a new washer…thinking the GE profile was the way to go because it was a good price and had good reviews, just wish I would had looked a little better at the reviews.
Anyway after two days of fighting with them we finally said ok this is what we are going to do. We loaded the washer up took it back to Lowe’s and thank goodness we have some amazing people who work there also before I forget Lowe’s tried to explain everything to GE customer service as well and they were just as rude to them as they were us but I digress…Lowe’s took it back, put the money on a gift card and we were finally able to get a new washer another Maytag. Not only are their products crap but so is their customer service. I did have two ladies in customer service out of the like 20 we talk to that were amazing and should definitely get a raise! I’ll NEVER buy another GE product again! EVER!

I ordered a washing machine off of their direct website. That included delivery and installation. I paid extra to have the old washer hauled away. I was at work when the new washer was delivered but my teenage daughter was home to let them in. The delivery guys just dropped the washing machine off in the middle of my living room and left. I called the delivery/install crew to have them come back to hook it up and take the old one away and they straight up told me "No. It's too late." I called GE customer service to inform them of what happened and so they scheduled to have someone come out 2 days later to take the old washing machine. I moved it outside on the patio to make it easier for them to take it away and in return I asked that they move the new washing machine down to the basement where my laundry room is. Again I was told no. They said it was not on the order so they weren't doing it.
I also noticed that GE charged me a second time for "haul away" when the old washer was never hauled away the first time. I called ge customer service again. They reversed the first "haul away" charge and scheduled someone to come out the following Monday between the hours of 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM for install. I made arrangements with work to be home during that time frame. I get a text that morning at 6:30 AM, on my way to work, saying that they would be at my house in 30 minutes for install. I text them back stating that the time frame for install was for that afternoon and they told me the work order was changed, that I was their first stop, and they weren't coming back in the afternoon. I had to call and wake up a friend of mine to go over to my house to let them in.
They finally installed the washing machine but never stacked my dryer back on top and never hooked hooked the dryer back up. The reason was because the dryer wasn't a ge dryer so they weren't doing it. So that is something I am going to have to deal with when I get home. I am beyond aggravated with ge and its contracted delivery/install crew. I will never order another appliance from them ever again. Honestly, I should be compensated for all of the trouble and aggravation they put me through. If I could give negative stars, I would.

This review is for my new GE Profile 5.3 front loader & matching dryer. I’ve run approx 20 loads so far and it’s one of the best machines I’ve owned in 25 yrs of having front loaders. The 5.3 is massive & quite capable of handling larger loads like comforters & beach towels. The hand dial turns smooth as silk & digital display is very reactive to touch. I especially like the sanitary & express options. Auto fill detergent allows you to pre-fill the machine with soap & it auto dispenses per your command, or you can manually add soap.
I like the auto for kids using the machine! It’s reasonably quiet and spin cycle is extremely proficient, helping to decrease drying times. Door has micro-ban with auto-vent so “keep door open” rule no longer applies. Dryer is very efficient with damp dry sensor or timed dry. Multiple options I haven’t even explored yet. I bought the sapphire blue set and it’s very attractive. I recommend you measure your laundry and entry ways before buying because though they’re beautiful machines, they’re quite large & heavy. I’m VERY pleased with my purchase.

I have been washing clothes for 40 years and I have never ever had a washing machine do this. When the repair man came out two months ago to clean the disgusting putrid gunk out of the bottom of the machine and I was told by him it's going to be an ongoing issue even though I am using high efficiency laundry soap I am still having the same issue. I am getting black sludge building up again that smells like raw sewage and ruins my laundry. I cannot believe I spent $1700.00 on a brand new washing machine with an "extended warranty" that they will no longer honour as according to them it's my problem and not the extended warranty company.
The machine a a joke and badly designed. So I now have to cut my financial losses and take it to recycling as no one wants this "lemon". I had to buy a used washing machine today as it's all I can afford that actually works. I can't tell you how furious I am. Fuller Watson the company I bought it from in Maple Ridge BC has gone out of business and could not care as they got my money and the extended warranty company will not honour my extended warranty any further so I am totally left with a washing machine that's not usable or sellable! Then on last Tuesday he repaired it and my wife got 2 loads and it would not drain and water stayed in the drum. Today Friday he was back again; telling my wife don't use it and we will be fine. I bought this machine for $798 new.
I contacted the GE complaint department and sent them all the paperwork. They came back with 50% off the part but not the labor. They also suggested maybe I should get a 2nd opinion with another authorized GE dealer. That was going to be $369 just for that 2nd opinion. That is the only thing they could do. Purchased my house in 2011 and it came with a front load Whirlpool Duet Sport washer and matching dryer. While I never had an issue with them, I thought the washer was kind of odd as the water level seemed quite low compared to the type of washer you find in a laundromat. In October of 2020 I thought it would be wise to upgrade to a more family sized washer and dryer. This washer and matching dryer were given very high praise in the various reviews I read. At nearly $1000 a piece I didn't think it was necessary to purchase the protection plan. At those prices the device should just work without issue and for many many years. That is far from the truth. Everything worked fine at first but:
1.) After about the first 3 months the detergent tank failed to work properly as a full tank of detergent would completely empty out after about 4 loads. Service tech came out to look at this no less than 10 times, each time replacing different parts hoping he would eventually fix it. After the initial warranty was up he was still kind enough to keep on attempting to fix it without charging me trip fee, parts, or labor, because that should not fail that fast. The tank never got fixed and still has the problem today. I'll give that a pass as I now just toss detergent pods in the tub instead.
2.) Water level is extraordinarily low. I started reading and discovered the ridiculous department of labor requirements of these appliances. They want to save you money on WHAT IS ALREADY the cheapest utility. So, since you're using much less water, you'll spend 3x the amount of electricity as the cycles take on average 3x longer than older washing machines. But then, I further discovered that the ONLY requirement set by the department of labor is that each washing machine has a single energy efficiency setting. There is NO requirement that all cycles use a tiny bit of water. Blame this on all the manufacturers of the big name appliances for misunderstanding the regulation. In short, get yourself a Speed Queen top loader. They still fill water to the top AND are made to last.
3.) This is what really makes me want to destroy this with a bat: If there is the smallest slightest possibility that the load might be unbalanced it refuses to spin. It tries and tries and then finally gives up, cycle stopped. Sometimes you can switch it to the spin cycle to pick up where it left off but sometimes I have to repeat the spin cycle multiple times before it spins. There should be an override!! I don't care one bit if there's an unbalanced load or if my washer moves across the floor. I WANT MY THE WATER EXTRACTED FROM MY CLOTHES! You can't even wash a single blanket!
4.) Has an extremely loud grinding noise when spinning. This started about 6 months ago. GE guy came back out to have a look. Opened up the back and said there was a damaged bearing. Said the part itself was around $500 and with the labor (requiring two people) it would cost around $1500 total. That's insane.
So basically we paid $1000 for 3 months of problem free washing. I have not taken the plunge yet but once this thing dies I will be replacing it with a Speed Queen from one of our local appliance stores. The big chains don't carry them so check your local stores.

That tells me that this was intentionally designed to fail, with the warranty covering only the motor - a part that could realistically be repaired/replaced fairly easily. GE does not stand behind their products and it is very dishearten to know that this long standing, trusted company is now turned to crap!!!! I am not one to bash anyone or their business, but my experience with GE has been terrible and I sure do not want anyone to have to endure this added, uncalled for stress in their lives!!

The machine worked well up to about a week ago and it started with not spinning, I thought maybe we had a power glitch so I restart the machine, this only happened once so did not think too much about it. After doing laundry yesterday, we went to do a load today and the machine was dead as a doornail. Nothing worked. Tried to reset the computer as instructed nothing. The extended warranty only covered the machine, not the computer or electrical parts. I would recommend doing research and seriously thinking of a different company instead of GE.

Upon further review I noticed washing machine only puts a couple of squirts of water in. I have to use a bucket every time I do laundry to add enough water that clothes get wet. Tried pre soak, same thing. Couple squirts of water only and that's called soak? I am all for saving water but having to manually fill my washing machine in 2022??? This washer was installed by Home Depot. It worked okay for about a year, after the year passed it began declining. On the second year mark, it completely stopped working. GE offers limited warranty and it’s for a year or less, after that you’re on your own. We paid $107 just for diagnostics, we were then quoted $499 just for the part that needed replacement, after labor our bill was supposed to be at about $700 - $900. Just after 2 years of use. We opted to buy a new one instead of repairing this. A day after we replaced this washer, the matching dryer stopped working. Another expense after two years of owning this brand we are left with nothing and no help from GE.

I purchased a 2022 washer from GE.MODEL#GFW650SPN2SN. Called and a installation person came, he informed me nor unbalanced but defective. Called GE, they sent a service repair person and he informed my motor and a number of other parts were defective. GE answer to this was to repair, to me that means they are going to refurbish my washer. I paid full price, if I would bought refurbished I could have saved a lot of money. Now GE service company is telling me parts are on back order for at least 5 weeks. GE said they were going to search for parts. Should take at least 5 business days. Meanwhile my washer was delivered in June and I am still without a washer. Today is August 15.
My recommendation would be for anyone searching for a washing machine, to look past the bells and whistles and go with another brand. I bought Samsung 4 door refrigerator with all bells and whistles and it works beautiful. I will not, for my own sanity deal with GE again. Dealing with that company is like pulling teeth. Sorry I cannot recommend. Washer ties sheets in ropes with clothes often inside rope. Agitator holds water which builds mold and rust on bottom bolt. Had one replaced before it was a year old. Have to add more water as recommended levels barely cover clothing. Have to leave top open after use to dry out and buy cleaner to clean washing machine. Never had to do that with my 16 year old machine of another brand. Even with cleaner I get black mold chips or black globs on the clothes. Dryer filter seldom full as everything seems to go to the outside vent. Have to clean the outside vent about once a week. Why?

I want to share my agonizing experience with GE. Here’s my story. I have been without a washer from 12/5/2021 to current. I purchased a new GE washer/dryer GUD24ESSMWW in 6/2021. In 12/2021 the washer stopped working. I contacted GE as the appliance is under manufacturer warranty, GE referred A&E appliance. At the 2nd visit, A&E tech said the motor had to be replaced. I requested for the washer/dryer be replaced but was denied. I considered the appliance to be a lemon.
Three weeks went by, I contacted GE and complained that A&E failed to return my calls and emails. Per GE, my repair was reported as completed. Appalled, I told GE that A&E did not return to replace the motor. GE would not listen to me, to make matters worse, GE said the matter was out of their hands. As the consumer I expected GE to resolve the issue to my satisfaction. On the contrary, the 3rd GE person I spoke to pacified me by arranging an appointment with another vendor.
I did not trust GE so I called the new vendor to confirm the appointment. This vendor was not accepting new repair requests. I sent an email to the email address provided by the GE customer rep. You guessed it, the email returned as undeliverable. If GE was concerned, they would have contacted me. I highly recommend GE management playback the phone calls between customers and their representatives. I am boycotting all GE products, you should too.

After 1 week the buzzing, ticking and thumping were so loud you could hear it in the street, and the agitator would not turn. The repairman came again and said the bolt had come off the bottom and the motor had chewed itself up to the point it all had to be replaced.
Now I am looking at a 4th week in a row with no washer. GE refused to replace the machine and will only repair it again. This is a 6 month old washer. It was not cheap. I bought a GE top loading washing machine Model # GTW460BMMWW. I had an issue with its performance and it took months to try to repair the machine, lastly the company replaced it with a new one after much deliberation. This new washer lasted a couple months and it completely quit working. A work order was produced and a repair technician was to come in THREE weeks! Long story short, the company's repair technician came, asked a couple questions, without examining the washer determined that my basement was too damp and therefore dampness was the issue and the repairs too extensive. So I was denied any repair or any compensation with a washer that was still under warranty.
The repair technician's report was requested and was ignored by the company's representative (Maria) after many emails. She (Maria) told me to try it in another location with less moisture (like I have multiple washer outlets throughout my home). If the product, which operates with water, cannot operated in a basement I would think the package would come with a warning not to be installed in a basement. One very unsatisfied customer!

GE GFW490RPK0RR Bought this Machine 3 years ago, was $1399. Biggest gripes: The tub clean would have to be done a few times a week or suds would build up, despite only using very small amounts of detergent. It would smell and it would fill up with suds if not cleaned. It almost always ran off balance and would bang or make noises. Often the machine would be blinking “Paused” I have no idea what that means. Clothes would come out of machine with rips and tears in them. This one puzzles me the most as I could not find any sharp edges anywhere. The soap dispenser intermittently would be found full of water, where you’d have to pull it out and drain it to put detergent into the cups. The door hinge is corroding severely
Recently the machine has been making unusually loud noises, then all of a sudden stopped working altogether. I found that the front outer drum, rear outer drum, had holes in them, and the bottom of the machine had these little steel balls lying on the bottom. I found that the balance ring had worn and spilled its contents, the balls. A quick look on GE’s site, for both balancing rings, the two tubs, the inner drum and seal will be around $800 not including labor. Needless to say, I won’t be putting money like that into this machine. In the end, I figured that it cost us $500 a year to do our laundry, not including the clothes we had to throw away. I’ve read that this problem has occurred in many other people’s machines. I’d suggest finding something else till GE gets this flaw figured out.

Anyways the first day after the technicians left we started doing the first load and after the wash was done we realized the clothes were soaking wet, the water did not extract completely. So, I thought maybe because I made a mistake or the load was too big, so for the the first week, we separated the towels and clothes and started putting 3/4 load and still the water would not extract at least 2 to 3 times a week, so I called the tech support and they dispatched a tech, and he could not find any error code on his laptop so he told us or try to teach us how to use the machine which we have been doing it for more than 35 years.

Some GE may be good, however the machine I was given by AHS is the lowest on the market. Makes horrible noise, does not have a detergent or fabric softener dispenser, cannot wash large loads (even though it is a large capacity tub) due to balance issues, does not spin very dry and just overall a terrible machine.

I purchased my machine in 2019. The only concern I have with this machine is that I’m never sure of the amount of water that fills the tub with some features that I’m not used to. The tub on this machine enables me to wash very large loads including my queen size quilt. After washing, my clothes are practically dried which cuts down on my electric bill for the dryer. The drain and spin feature allows for a drier finish. Everything else is good. As long as you’re using the right soap the clothes are the cleanest.

You can program the washing machine so it fills up with water automatically depending on the amount of clothes which is a good feature. You don't have to program the water level every time you put in a load. The negative thing is that sometimes if you need to add more clothes once you've turned it on the door gets locked and it becomes very difficult to actually get the door to unlock so you can open the door.
