With my arthritis, this hand held can opener looked very easy to use and didn't seem like it would cause me pain when opening. I detest electric can openers because they fail so easily and take up too much counter space on my small counters. Farberware has always been a high quality name in kitchenware products so I had no problems at all paying the $12 for it. However, after the second use, the teeth on the gear bent together. I discovered the metal is very soft, as I was able to pry the teeth apart to use it a third time.

After that, all of the teeth sort of went askew and it unusable completely. The blade wheel is still sharp and I still use it to open cans. I have to puncture the can lid with it all the way around, creating an enormous amount of pain in my hand, shoulder and neck from the long, tedious process, but at least my can still get opened. It would make no point in getting something else because everything is made cheaply and substandard these days. But I had hopes for this one because of the name. I guess reputation has been sold out by big profit as well.

Well, my mother used to always tell me, never judge a book by its cover. And just because it has a name once associated with quality, big comfy handle grips and it's pricey (we used to be told that 'you get what you pay for' too, which is a long ago bit of advice that no longer applies) doesn't mean a thing anymore. It's all the same, all made in China; poor quality, it's depressing.

Well, I thought it was just me. But after googling to see if anyone has had these same issues and reading other reviews, I've discovered I'm not the only one. Why doesn't Farberware know they have changed their products for the worse? It used to be a reliable long lasting brand. Now I've been through 2 can openers (resorting to the cheaply $1 one you find at the Dollar Store when they quit turning after limited use), 2 sets of knives and a spatula and measuring cups that handles just snapped. I am one that despises wasting money. So I'm not sure I will purchase another Farberware product again.

After limited use, the wire on the cheese slicer came off on one side. I loosened the screw on the right side of the slicer but the wire had actually broken and was no longer long enough to connect under the screw, which I presumed would be the only way to fix the problem. What on earth has happened to this once great company? I can't, in good conscience, buy Farberware products in the future. You've lost yet another customer.

I bought what I thought was a can opener that would "last" for a while but it didn’t. It was a hand held opener. I was using it when the black twist handle broke and would not turn the can to open it. I got pissed off and threw it in the trash and said to myself, I’ll never buy this crap again. What, a name like Farberware, can’t they stand behind their product and fix it or replace the crap that doesn’t work?!

Four weeks ago, I purchased Farberware manual can opener at the local Target. At fifteen dollars, I thought it was a bit pricey but it had such a nice ergo-friendly feel and heavy-duty appearance. I thought it would probably last me the rest of my life, especially since my mother has had one of those cheap, stamped out steel ones for over twenty years now and it still works fine. It's just not as nice looking or comfortable as the one I bought at Target. Of course, hers probably only cost about forty-nine cents. The opener was wonderful at first. Then the crank handle started spinning freely on the spindle and would not go around the can to open it. So, off to Target I went to get another just like it because I liked the way it felt and figured this failure was just a fluke. Anything can happen, right?

Well, this morning, after opening approximately eight cans, the same thing happened to my new opener. I now have thirty dollars worth of Farberware openers and cannot open a can of beans. I have an opener that my father gave me from his three years in a Korean prisoner of war camp. That would be 1950 -1953. Whoever packaged the C-rations during that war would toss in a handful of these openers. It is the simplest designed item that has ever been issued to the military except maybe the tent peg. The official Department of the Army nomenclature of this item is "P-38". It consists of two pieces of stamped steel that hinge together and even has a little hole in one end to place on a key chain. It opens a can of beans in about twenty seconds. It is considerably slower than your opener when it works, but it is still working after sixty years!

If someone at Farberware Customer Service is actually reading this, I want you to know that I don't want anything from Farberware, certainly not another opener but I would like to know how to get in touch with your Research and Development department. I would like to know the name of the person who took the time to sit down at a drafting table with pencil and paper and draw up the design of this opener and decided it was good enough to pass on to fabrication then on to marketing. Did anyone at any time during this process stop and test it out? I expected more from such an iconic name as Farberware. I don't expect a response to this letter or for anyone to even read it. I wrote it as a form of venting and self-satisfaction. As an American in today's world, I don't have many choices as to where my dollars go. But as a consumer, sometimes I do. And I can decide on which name brands to avoid. If you can forward me the email address of the person who signed off on this opener as "acceptable" I would appreciate it. I would like to write him a letter also. Thank you for listening.

I bought a black soft handle can opener with the magnet on it a short time ago and it has been nothing but trouble after the first couple of weeks. The handle started slipping when you tried to use it and had to be redone over and over to get the can open and then it came off completely. It was $10 when I bought it and I got better use from an old cheap can opener I got at a yard sale for $0.50 several years ago. I used that old one for years without any trouble and then put it in the camper and I'm still using it there. Why is everything made like junk now and doesn't last long enough to hardly get it home from the store? We live on limited income and I can't afford to pay that big price for a piece of made in China, fall apart junk. Your warranty is no good if I have to pay to send it back and be without an opener for weeks. I had to go ahead and buy another cheap ($2) can opener at the store today and I'll bet it will last a lot longer than your $10 one did! I thought when I bought your can opener that your brand was really good and well made. Boy, was I wrong!

I purchased a Farberware knife set in a wood block, mostly because I've known Farberware to make quality cookware that I've owned since 1994. The knife set was purchased in December of 2011 and yesterday, July 2012, a steak knife broke where the metal joins the plastic handle. I expected the lifespan of a Farberware knife set to last much longer than 7 months. I followed the manufacturer's directions and "baby" these knives with hand washing instead of dishwasher cleaning. With that much care, the knives shouldn't be breaking 7 months after purchase.

I purchased a Farberware Potato Masher because of the name brand and it looked like it was well made. On the third use, the masher broke where the handle attaches to the base. The consumer is duped into thinking the item is strong because it is 3/4" x 3/8" at that point. Upon close examination when it broke, one can see that the actual thickness is only 1/2" x 5/16" plastic, with no metal reinforcement. As a Quality Control Engineer I can safely say, "They will all break at that point in time." If Farberware wants to throw away its name recognition by having "Made in China" stamped on the handle, okay. I will choose to buy a different brand!

The pan will tip and spill whatever you have in it and also slides off the burner. I'm not the only one that has this problem. I think you should take these off the shelves and replace them with lighter handles. If not, a child, adult or someone's house may catch on fire. Seriously, this is a problem. It was well-wrapped in bubble wrap, more wrap, and in a large box. And when I unwrapped the knife, the top plastic filler was already cracked at the end next to the blade! I called customer service, and because I had photos, the woman said to email custserv@farberware.com, which I did. I included the photos of both knives and our customer info. The email came back "mailer daemon" as undeliverable. The call center (including another number she gave me) is now closed, and I'll have to wait till Monday (I may be unavailable all next week).

The quality control is poor; the design is poor. There should not be a plastic filler in the handle that takes the force of the blade when using the knife. The rest of the knife is supposedly stainless steel. In my email (which came back undelivered), I requested a perfect replacement at no charge and no shipping costs if we have to return the replacement knife. I don't need an attorney to contact me about this, unless it is to the benefit of a group. The guy told me you could not do anything if I did not find receipt. Just owning the product of that size should show I own the product. Second, the can opener. I bought it and it worked just for about a month. I could not even cut a can or turn the handle. My husband, who is a lot stronger than me and is a full-time fireman, could not turn it. I am not sure if I have the receipt or not. I bought it at Kroger.

Third, I bought your 22-piece wood block kitchen knife set for $29.99. After rebate, it will cost $10. I went and purchased at Kroger, but I could not find rebate. I spoke with a cashier when checking out and customer service. They told me to go on their website and it should be there. I could not find it after looking.

I went back a week later. I asked for a customer service manager. She called the lady from the department in the store. Her name was Cynthia. She said you did not get the rebate slips in from your company when the product came. Cynthia said to give me a refund. I went on about my business and went down the cutlery aisle by the meat market. There was a whole display of these displayed with rebate taped to the front. I was excited. I bought the product, sent off the form, and sent in the UPC code. I took it to the mountains to keep in our cabin.

Now, I am back home been, waiting for a refund and get a card telling me I did not send it in the time allowed. I could not believe it. I called Farberware customer service, and a lady told me she could not help me because she has no way of seeing what I sent. There is a whole different place that handles the rebates. Then she started telling me that I should have saved a copy of my receipt.

First of all, you, guys, do not even keep a copy of receipt and the rebate form I sent you, but you're going to tell me I should keep one? I have been looking for a copy, because that is generally how I do my rebates. I never thought I would be treated in this manner. She told me to send an email to this other warehouse rebate place, explain, and see what they say. Most of the time, you never hear back from emails from companies. Second, it's not fair to have us jump through dozens of phone calls and emails, when you are the manufacturer of the product and we have no way of speaking to this company that represents Farberware.

Your product review on this knife set says the handles break off after a few uses. I do not know yet, because I have them at my cabin, which I go to only a few times a year. Not only will I be out money, but now, the product eventually. I have not seen one person praise this set of knives. I have spent 100s of dollars on your products. I could have used that $20 in gas.

Fourth, the coffee pot that I used a long time ago started shorting out from the cord. I called your company. Again, I had to speak with a manager, this time because I was not taken seriously about this safety feature. My husband was concerned about this causing a fire. I cannot remember the full safety problems he had seen in this. But I explained in detail. I told the lady I would send the whole product back where it could be sent to the proper department for research. She did not care and just told me to cut off the cord and she would send money back. That's what I did. Sad.

Where did customer satisfaction go? Why should the customer be treated in such a manner? Your product reviews are horrible. Have you ever looked at all the feedback you, guys, get on your products? I will think twice before I purchase another one of your products. Now that it's taken me another hour to find this form and type up this complaint, who knows if I will hear anything from Farberware? I used to be a loyal customer.

Both have used the pots and pans on a regular basis, and not in an abusive manner. Both sets are having the paint chip and peel off the outsides.

My mom does not have a dishwasher and washes her pots and pans by hand. My sister does put hers in the dishwasher sometimes. But for only being less than 3 months old, they look horrible. Now, the inside is beginning to chip around the edges. My family has always used Farberware in the past, and I didn't want to switch brands, but I am very displeased with the sets I recently purchased. No one was hurt but to think that could have severely scalded someone is unconscionable. I will not use it anymore and have since purchased another kettle.

I'm very disappointed with the product especially since it carries Paula Deen's name. She should be made aware of this hazard and you should recall this item from the store shelves before someone really does get hurt. However, two weeks ago, it suddenly stopped working. I didn't understand why. So I unplugged the wire from the pot and looked inside where the prongs go and there was a piece of plastic that had broken off. It was supposed to hold the prongs in place but when it is plugged in, the prongs go too far into the coffee pot and doesn't have contact with the wire to work. My daughter doesn't have the receipt or the box and I cannot afford to buy a new pot. I would like to receive a new one in place of the defective one.

Everyone in my family has used only Farberware and another brand of cookware. We have always loved them because of their quality. Their lifetime guarantee is a good thing also. That is until recent years. I never really trusted or cared for coated pots and pans, but one day while looking for a wedding gift I bought two sets of coated cookware that had both pots and pans and that gave $20 rebates for each; one set for the gift and the other for myself. After all, I couldn't go wrong, they were Farberware.

After making my first pot of homemade spaghetti and after eating it, when I got to the bottom of the pot to wash it, I noticed the entire bottom was peeled or flaked away. That was six (6) quarts of sauce eaten. Had we been poisoned? I was very concerned. Sent a letter to the company, as I didn't have a computer, and because the store I bought them at told me I had to contact Farberware for any resolution. I knew the company would help me out because of course it was Farberware and they guarantee their products. I never was able to resolve the matter, and never received the $40 rebates owed me.

Recently, my favorite pot, a 3qt stainless steel pot I've enjoyed for 30 years ended up with a tiny hole 1/3 of the way from the top, so I can't use it except for small amounts, but I forget, or my sons forget. There is no place I can find in the website to email my problem to have the pot replaced. I take great care of my cookware and should not have to replace it myself for faulty metal. Can anyone help? I became a widow at 24 yrs of age with two babies and one of the things I was able to do with the life insurance was buy a box of Farberware pots and pan. It was a 3 pan, $30.00 dollar investment. That was in 1980 and in 2002 the bottom separated from the rest of the pan on my 2 qt. I remarried in 1995 and my new husband was cooking and all of a sudden he noticed that the pan separated. It was a hard time in our lives. We were even homeless at one point, but I kept the pan in my storage area. I was confident that when I got back on my feet that one day, Farberware would replace it.

Later, we tried phone numbers and asking store personnel. Then finally retail store personnel told me that Farberware no longer backs their pots and pans! So I put it in the back of my pots and pans. I recently got the internet service and one day stumbling across my pan I looked it up. It was not surprising to read what others have written here. I realize one would think that after 30 years, I shouldn't expect my pan replaced. But my mother taught me to take care of my pots and pans and keep them clean and free from buildup and that they would last a lifetime. My mother, Jean, has passed and I have one of her pans that I know is now at least 50 years old and you can't tell because she took care of it so well. I've had my Farberware pots for almost as long as I've been married which will be 50 years in two weeks. (I'm still using the pots.) I am wondering if there has been a recall on the coffee pot.

I purchased a set of Farberware cookware, and there was supposed to be a rebate of $20. I filled out the rebate form and included everything that was asked for, namely:
Original receipt, showing purchase of appropriate product and price
Original UPC Code from product packaging

    Coupon from inside the package.

I mailed everything back within the time proper frame. But I received the envelope back marked "not deliverable as addressed," even though I used the exact address shown on the rebate coupon exactly as they had it for the rebate. I tried calling the number on the coupon, and the number was not working. It is now later than the 30 days allowed, but I originally sent it within the appropriate time frame.

What a waste of time. There was no info on warranties at all, just trying to sell you parts that cost more than the product. I won't ever buy anything else with the name Farberware. Warranties are no good.

I contacted Farberware letting them know that I got a set of pots and pans for Christmas. I used the dutch oven for stew and the cover of the pan started peeling when I washed it! They told me to send it back to them to let them determine if it was my fault or if it is a faulty product. I called the place where my husband purchased these pots and pans. They told me to return the product to the store and they would give me a refund. So if anyone else has a problem with their Farberware, I would suggest taking it back to the store for a refund and buy a different product. I've used Farberware in the past and really surprised at the products they have on the market today.

There was absolutely no rebate or warranty of any kind in the box. There was just the cardboard used to pack the pans and lids. However, I looked at other people who wrote into Consumer Affairs.com and got the right phone number. The nice lady at rebate, 1-800-214-8369, was very polite and explained that the rebate processor went bankrupt and was no longer handling the rebates. She then gave me the appropriate address: Velocity, P.O. Box 22178, Tempe, AZ 85285-2178. Then to track the rebate, call 1-800953-3098. Also, put Farberware Rebate on the outside of the envelope. The bottoms of these pots and pans and skillets are too slick. They slide around on the burners. None of my other cookware slides on the burners. While cooking in Farberware, if you stir your contents, you have to hold the pot or skillet to keep it on the burner and if your stove top isn't level, the hot pot full of boiling liquid can slide all by itself off the stove, scald you or a child or pet. I have had this set of cookware for about a year. It is the same slippery problem even after much use. They are not stained. No food sticks to the outside either! This is an obvious case of production flaws which can and will lead to personal injury, much worse than the McDonald's hot coffee case.

I used my Farberware 5 quart slow cooker FSSC500 for the first time recently. Since my kitchen had just been remodeled, I placed a plastic cutting board underneath since the directions read "the cooking base unit will get very warm during cooking. This is where the heating element is located. If necessary to handle, use pot holders or oven mitts." Luckily I took the precaution of placing the cutting board underneath the unit and checked the unit often.
My recipe for pulled pork called for a cooking time of 8 hours on low or 4 on high. After 8 hours of cooking on low, the pork was hot but not cooked enough to pull apart. At this time, I turned the control to high. An hour later I checked the cooker only to find that one of the plastic legs had melted completely down to the screw on the bottom of the unit, the top of the plastic cutting board had melted, the plug had burned through but had not shorted because it was positioned flat and the two exposed wires were not toughing each other, the counter top was extremely hot as was the underside of the counter top. I called the 1-888-881-8101 number the next morning. I described the scenerio and was asked to hold on the line. Several minutes later the representative came back on the line and said they would consider the unit under warranty even tho at this time I did not have my receipt. She said they would be happy to send a replacement appliance free of charge. I could pick out another appliance since they no longer carried the slow cooker. I said I was not looking for another appliance but did want this model to be recalled. She said if it were determined that I needed to send it back for examination, I would receive shipping instructions via mail. A few days ago I received a letter advising me how to "apply" for a replacement. It was sent from Applica Consumer Products. There was no mention of sending back the unit for examination. I did search for this model on the web and found several sites where it can be purchased. Anything you can do to make certain that no one else uses this slow cooker would be greatly appreciated. Except for my preventative measure and my attention to the unit, there would have been a house fire without question. I am hopeful that no permanent damage was done to my laminate countertop but only time will reveal that. I thank you for your assistance in this matter.

I have never had a spatula that pulled apart. There is no complaint address or number that I can find on the internet, just complaints from people regarding Farberware. What a shame. But I am now deeply disappointed with the coffee percolator. I had one for about 20 years that finally gave out. I purchased a new one that lasted only about 3 years. It would "re-perk" the coffee after the initial cycle was done. So, I bought another new one, believing that it was just a one time mistake and trusting the Farberware name.
