Empire was hired to lay carpet in my home. Wasn't a good idea. They first gave us a time to install. We got everything ready and on the day to install, no show. They try to say they had no installers show - not true. Next they gave another date. That day the truck broke down. They gave another date. They came out with the wrong carpet. Finally the next date they came out and I had to really get mad at them. They didn't want to do the stairs which was in the contract. The boss had to come out and he call the Empire even though I showed him the contract. Finally they laid the carpet. Never again. The installer were ok. They just were doing what they were told.

After reading these complaints I was skeptical; however, so far I am quite impressed with the sales rep. She was knowledgeable warm and very thorough. She showed me tons of carpeting and hardwood. If installation goes this well it would be great--we'll see. A friend used Empire last year and she still likes them.

We ordered blinds from Empire Today when we moved here in 2009. At first all went well. A couple of years later, the strings broke and we asked for them to be repaired. They told us it would cost over $100; the salesman at first told us the blinds were guaranteed for life. No one told us the cords were not part of the guarantee. We agreed to pay, as we had no choice. They were fixed and reinstalled, and the repair lasted about 2 weeks. We asked them to come back to re-repair; they did, and now have had our blinds for over 6 weeks. Have tried several times to call; we have left messages with the receptionist more than once, and have not received any calls back. Very disappointed in their customer relations.

Had an appointment with Empire Today about a week ago to come out and quote us a price for laminate flooring. Unfortunately, my husband and I got held up and had to call and cancel our initial appt. We cancelled well before our scheduled appointment window. We rescheduled and were set for the sales rep to come out today, April 7, between 6-8. About 5:15 today, Empire customer service called us and told us the sales rep would not be able to make it. We were told he was stuck in traffic. I said, "But the window is from 6-8, a good 45 minutes before the earliest arrival time," so why would the rep state he can't make it. I asked several questions, I even told the rep we really wanted to get the rep out for a quote because we had others and wanted to make a decision on who would do the job.

The customer service rep, **, seemed to get upset with my repeated questions, started to raise her voice, and seemed to get angry. I asked her was she getting angry with me and was she raising her voice? She quickly adjusted her attitude, and said she would call the sales rep again. After holding she came back and advised that the sales rep told her, he had been sitting in traffic for 30 minutes and had not moved a mile. Sure... I believe that. Still wanting someone to come and the reason didn't make sense, I asked for a supervisor. At that time it was 5:26 (noted the time on my phone), and I said, "How can your rep tell you at 5:30 that he isn't going to be able to keep an appt that was scheduled for a window of time from 6-8." I even asked was this retaliation for our having to cancel a week ago? He had no answer and said there was nothing he could do other than reschedule.

I asked for a corporate number, so that I could register a complaint because of the poor customer service. I was told everything was handled through the 1-800 number. I politely told him I didn't believe him, and told him not to bother, they apparently didn't want our business. I was very disappointed until I ran across this site. I'm oh so glad, it turned out the way it did! My issue is very small when compared to others. However, I would definitely NOT recommend this company to anyone. If you are slighted by them when they are trying to earn your business, there is absolutely no telling how they would treat you or stand behind their work AFTER they have your money. Keep looking!

I do not recommend Empire Today (Flooring) to anyone. I met with a salesperson two times onsite. He not only measured, but I also gave him copies of the blueprints. The day the tile was to begin install, it was cancelled. The next day I was told the time frame for install would be 9-10 am. By 10:30, no one had arrived. I called and was told the installer would arrive in 20 minutes. 40 minutes went by and no one had arrived or called. I called customer service again and was told he was right around the corner. Another 20 minutes passed. Finally two men arrived, but now the day was half over. (I was told install would take no more than 2 days) I was told they would arrive the next day at 8:00 am. They did not arrive until after 11:00 am. Now at day 2, they had no more than 400 square feet installed.

In the meantime, I was calling the rep, who was supposedly speaking with management. I called and left messages for management. Never received a call back. Third day of install I was informed that they were unaware of a room which was 186 square feet. I explained that the rep measured himself and he walked the space. They now wanted to charge me more for a room that I was told was included. Management called and gave the runaround. I would rather install the tile myself, than give them any more business. Horrible company. I honestly do not know how they stay in business. (That must be why they collect payment prior to starting the job-Red Flag.)

I am writing this on behalf of my mother. Last June, (less than a year ago), she paid a lot of money to have carpet installed. She told the sales rep that the living room was a high traffic area and wanted something that would hold up well. They recommended an expensive berber carpet. She had it installed and now less than a year later, the carpet looks awful. It has spots all over it and not from anything being dropped on it. Despite the fact that she is an extremely clean person, they are refusing to honor their warranty unless she pays to have it professionally cleaned. She vacuums every day and has cleaned the carpet with her own machine.

When she first called, Empire told her that she should be having people take off their shoes when they enter her house if she wants to keep the rug clean. They also told her that in order for her warranty to be valid, she needed to have the rugs professionally cleaned every 12 months. She told them it had not even been 12 months since she had it installed and they told her she needed to have them professionally cleaned anyways. I called today and now they are conveniently saying they're supposed to be cleaned every 8 months, which is a direct contradiction of their warranty. Empire needs to either pay to have them professionally cleaned or send someone out to replace the carpet. Extremely poor customer service!!

I ordered carpet on 3/24/15 and was told they would be out 3/27/15 to install. When they arrived they said that they had the carpet but needed to measure and take the carpet to be cut and bound. I can live with that as the salesperson mentioned this might be the case. Here is the good/bad part. They wanted payment in full even though they had not installed the carpet. So I resolve that by giving them another $500. They call on 3/31/15 to confirm install on 4/2/15. I call at around noontime to get a time for installation and am told that install has been moved to 4/8/15 and they don't know what happened.

I contacted Empire Today for an estimate for hardwood. I had a nice lady come out and do the measure. She quoted me a price which seemed fair at first. She explained their 50% material, labor sale. I agreed and signed up for the deferred finance plan. She left me the paperwork and then I got to thinking...I wanted to do the math so I pulled out the paperwork only to find NO itemized receipt. The so-called sales price seemed like it was not such a good deal upon thinking it over. I called Empire customer care and they said they would send an itemized receipt to me within 24 hours. They said they would have the saleslady's boss call me. They never sent the itemized receipt to date. I asked what the price of regular installation is. They did not know. They did not know who manufactures the materials, or how much anything is. What kind of customer care is that?

I waited all day for this boss to call me and decided to call the saleslady with a multitude of questions. She did not know the manufacturer of the hardwood?? How can you comparison-shop if you do not know who the manufacturer is? I asked her the price of labor, she did not know?? So we did the math together on the phone. The hardwood I picked out with labor would have been $20.22 a square foot at THEIR regular priced. That is outrageous in my opinion. Seems like you just inflate the price to bring it back down. We went 'round and 'round. I then mentioned canceling. She said their would probably be a cancellation charge?? I looked at the contract and was to have been given a cancellation form. It was never mentioned by her or given to me.

I asked customer care about that and they said that they generate the cancellation forms. The saleslady asked if I would still like to speak with her boss. I said yes!! He finally called and he would not tell me a labor charge. He did not tell me the manufacturer. I asked to cancel. He agreed. He told me I should have a cancellation form with my contract. I did not have one. He then called me the next day informing me that he took care of the cancellation. There was no charge. The saleslady called me back saying she was sorry it did not work out. I should mention that I was also told that the hardwood did not need to acclimate to my home before installation as they keep the wood in a climate-controlled building. I inquired about this at another hardwood flooring store and they said it should still be given time to acclimate in the house as the conditions are not the same in every home.

I also asked for a sample of the product. They do not give samples. She told me to take a picture of it with my phone. How would I know if I even received the same product that I thought I bought? I came down with a huge dose of buyer's remorse at 3 a.m.; you know, that inner voice that just tells you something is wrong. By 6:30 a.m. I was on the phone to customer care only finding my gut feeling is right. By days end, it was confirmed. I am just glad I listened to the voice and bailed out on time. My bane will have to be listening to those 1-800-Empire commercials...grrrr.

Reported that carpet was of poor quality. Carpet was crushing and wearing too quick. Purchased it in August 2014 and 6 months later was showing trails and worn, sinking areas in the padding. Also in areas where my feet would sit for periods of time there was extreme matting. Empire sent an inspector who in turn send me a report claiming that there was nothing wrong with the carpet on a microscopic level and they would not do anything nor would the manufacturer. I am very displeased with this carpet and it will wear at a very poor rate and will require that I replace it in a very short time. Empire does not back their products. I will warn all to not do business with them.

A gold ring and a silver ankle bracelet were taken from a small container on the counter. I have called three times, both my salesman and customer service. I have sent emails and faxes and no one is responding to me. There is no way to monetarily replace these two items; they have great sentimental value to me and I am very angry with their lack of concern. These men stole from me and then were kind enough to take the tip I handed them as they walked out my front door! I expected honest, trustworthy workers in my home and now have been callously ripped off! DO NOT USE EMPIRE TODAY!

Hi. I'm a carpet installer for Empire Today in Santa Fe Springs. I am very angry because we don't get paid for a lot of stuff. 1) We don't get paid for moving furniture when Empire charges customers. 2) We don't get paid for doing stairs when Empire they charge customers. 3) I don't like the fact that installers have to take full responsibility for everything before starting the job. They have to collect the cod. If they break something we have to pay for it. We have to deal with customers because sales Rep don't give a lot of info to customers.

Another thing I don't like is that everyday we go work to different places. Sometimes we go really far and the job gets cancelled because stupid sales Rep don't know how to measure and when we get there we're short on carpet so the job gets cancel and the only thing that ** (supervisors) says to us, "Oh I'm sorry it got cancel" and only because we didn't did the job we don't get paid anything not even the gas money we put from our pocket...

All the customers from Empire Today don't know all this and I'm not saying everything but hopefully y'all stop using Empire and realize that they sell the cheapest carpets on the market and their prices are really high and the installers are the ones who get paid the less and are the ones who do everything - move the furniture, install the carpet then at the end move the furniture back then collect cod. That's not fair for us the installers.

It's been a few years now that we had our kitchen, sunroom and bathroom tiled as well as carpeting in the living room, hallway and bedroom. Immediately after having the work done, we noticed a tile that was cracked in the sunroom. It was on the basement door which slides open. Someone came out to replace the tile. However, instead of replacing it, he just placed another one over the broken one. As a result, we have been unable to slide the door closed. We reported that to the company on several occasions and were told that we would have to pay for a service call. I fail to see why an inadequate repair by your company requires payment from the customer to correct.

We now have a toddler and puppy in the house, and they are unable to be in the sunroom which requires the kitchen door be closed at all times. It is dangerous having the basement door open with a drop straight down. How does a company condone this type of work? In addition, the bathroom tiles are peeling, and the color has darkened in one area. The carpets have not held up to the standard we were promised either. My husband is on social security, and I am unable to work due to a disability. His income is limited and mine is non-existent after exhausting disability benefits. When you pitched these products to us, we were promised that they would outlast us.

My main concern at this point is that I have to keep my grandson out of the sunroom when he visits, and the puppy inside so that they don't fall as a result of not being able to slide the door closed as it should be. All it would take would be to remove the tile and replace it instead of placing one on top of the damaged one...something that should have been done initially. I'm well aware that you'll say too much time has passed. However, given the fact that your employee did substandard repair when you were called immediately, and several times after he left, it is unacceptable that we are still facing this problem. Your mistake at our expense.

When I looked underneath, it was placed down with quarter size pieces of something that looked like Play-doh or gum. I called Empire for them to return and fix it. They returned weeks later, only to send someone who doesn't speak enough English (again) and did absolutely nothing. He said he was going to return a week later to repair it.

Another week goes by, I get a phone call from Empire to say there was water damage and they are going to charge me a fee to repair. WHAT????? The floor was never placed probably to begin with. "There is nothing he can do". WHAT???? This is the great professional service they talk about on TV and online? Now I have to wait another week for someone to come and re-evaluate, NOT repair it, but to re-evaluate what is wrong with the floor again. There is nothing wrong with the floor, it was NEVER placed properly. He said they should of used liquid cement. OK, so why didn't they??? So why am I playing a surcharge for something they did NOT do? I will NEVER recommend Empire to anyone and will NEVER purchase anything from them again! I will however NOT accept the fee. We purchased their laminate flooring from a salesman that was, probably, the pushiest I've ever dealt with, Mistake #1. Mistake #2 was believing the Empire would actually honor their guarantee promises. We were going to purchase carpet for 2 rooms in our house, dining room and our home bar. Salesman talked us into going with laminate for both rooms because they are high traffic areas and with their 30 yr warranty against water it was the best option. We went with that in November 2013 and within 6 months started calling and emailing to complain that the floor was actually pulling apart and buckling. NEVER received any type of response despite numerous attempts. Around the 1 year mark actually got a voice mail with a reps number. Tried unsuccessfully 3 times to contact Him then gave up.

Just got through in February of 2015. They finally sent an inspector out to look at the problem. This was an independent contractor and as soon as He walked in his reaction was "Oh my God". That says it all. He did moisture readings in 3 different places on the floor and said they were "extremely low for an older house and well below the acceptable limits". Finally got a call today this week that they will repair the floor and I said I don't want any of your products in my home so they said they'd get back to me and did so today. Well their Extremely "generous" offer was to take $330 off what was my $4000 bill for the flooring and said it was my wife’s fault because she cleans the floor too much and it’s only supposed to be cleaned once a week!! They said it’s consumer fault because we must have put too much water on it even though the readings done by their own contractor showed them to be very low!

Will NEVER recommend this company to anyone. Legal action may be forthcoming.

Empire Today has the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered. I scheduled an in-home estimate in January and received a quote but could not finance the job until later. I called back in March and was told that I needed to have another in-home estimate because my old estimate expired. It took two weeks before I could schedule a new in-home estimate. I scheduled the estimate from 1-3 on a Monday afternoon in the middle of a work day.

I was home from 1:00 to 2:00 and called Empire, asking where the sales associate was. I called Empire, was on hold for 20 minutes, and then was told that the sales representative would be at my home at 3:00. I left to do some work and came back to my house, arriving at 3:03 pm, to find that the sales representative had left without giving me a call. I had received a call at 2:57 from the 1-800 number but had no way of getting in touch with the sales associate. He could not have waited for more than 5 minutes before he left and cancelled my appointment. Terrible experience.

In addition, it is impossible to get anyone on the phone at Empire. I spent multiple afternoons waiting for 30 minutes to speak to someone, with no luck. I have had customer service representatives hang up on me, promise to call back and never to do, and received email addresses and personal phone numbers from service representatives that NEVER returned my emails or calls. I called the company to have someone come in to look at the 2 small openings in my floor and also to discuss trimming that was not provided at the time of service..... (Dividing the kitchen from the dining room.) I was informed unless it was a manufacturer defect I would be charged for repairs..... not to mention he did not want to hear my concern with the trim (if you snooze you lose was the attitude). I explained to him when I purchased the flooring I was more than reassured by the seller and the installers that I had a warranty for 30 years (at the time I did question this because it sounded too good to be true) but yes they assured me this is how the company works - you would just call them up and they would return to fix any reasonable issue the floor could naturally develop.

The issue I have is a natural issue that may happen with a floating floor, (that was also explained to me at time of purchase) so I am now left with 2 eyesores in a rather large room in my home that cost me $6000.00 and I will now have to pay to have repaired! Needless to say Empire will not be repairing it!

Had Empire install carpet throughout house 3 years ago. We have owned the house 15 years, so this is not our first round of have carpeting replaced. Worst carpet install I have ever seen. I have NEVER had carpet in this room that has a seam. Not only did they piece two pieces together to create a seam, the seam was directly in the center of the room, a seam from the stairs to the fireplace. I now have a rut in the middle of the room as the seams did not hold up. They sent a tech to inspect, took pictures, stated that this in not repairable. He even took pictures of the vacuum cleaner we use. He said he would file his report and I would get a call back in 5 days.

Well you guessed it, it's been three weeks and can't get a phone call back. I have called the main number three times, they have to then call the local office. Of course no one at the local office will answer. When I ask for the local office phone number, they of course can not give it without the permission of the manager at that office. What a crock. So I ask, "Why are they hiding?" The rep just asks if there is anything else I can be helped with? "Well yes there is, get me someone that resolve my issue." Absolutely the worst company to deal with, from the pushy sales guy that starts at a million dollars for carpet and works his way down to something more reasonable, to the installers, and the absolutely worst customer services you will ever find. I had a salesman show up at my house in the evening. I picked out the color and carpet I wanted. I asked for a sample. Empire Carpet does not give out samples. Very odd. On the day of installation, the installers showed up with carpet that looked nothing like the carpet I had chose. I picked a brownish colored carpet. A huge roll of what appeared to be Grey carpet was on the back of the truck. I was so upset when I saw it. I said "no way that is being installed in my house, that is not what I picked."

I was really angry, since I spent two days moving all my furniture. The salesman who we dealt with came to my house to show it was the same as the Sample. He pulled out the board. They were the same. He said it appears different only because we are outside and that it will look different in the house. He mentioned something about highlights in the carpet and me picking at night under my lighting so it's looking different out doors. I kept saying how different it looks and I can't see it being the brownish color I had picked out. He said "Go ahead and get it installed. If you still aren't happy, you call us and we will come out and fix it."

So I called the very next day because when I saw the carpet the next day with the windows and doors open, it looked horrible and the color was not brownish at all. At night it does look like the color I liked. Day time, awful. So we were told someone would get back to us in 72 hours. They didn't. My husband called again. They said they'd call back this morning. No call back. I called. I was basically called a Liar. A "manager" named Janet, said that they are not going to change the carpet for us. I asked if that is their practice, telling their customers to go ahead and install and if you don't like it, call us, then they do nothing.

She said she wasn't there to hear the sales guy say that. This was the first time she basically called me a liar. So now they want to charge me another $1100. I said no way. They came down to $875. I have family coming here in 5 days. They knew this so they are now taking advantage of this. I have no choice but to pay another $875. I had two referrals lined up. I called them tonight to tell them DO NOT use Empire. This was a horrible experience. Customer is not always right with Empire. Instead they say what they have to to get the carpet installed. Don't have your salesman say "just install it, if you still don't like it, call us" if you guys plan to charge a crapload of more money. So shady of Empire.

Be careful, you get 1/2 price installation to go along with that. One of those extras did my master bathroom tile, including removing and reinstalling the toilet. Little did I know that he reused the wax seal under the toilet and now, 1 1/2 years later, the evidence is clear. The pictures tell it all. Now I'm stuck with thousands in insurance repairs. I was going to use laminate flooring in my living room, dining room, small hallway and bedroom. They advertised a 99 dollar room sale which is only for the flooring and nothing else. So that being said they counted my small hallway as a room and thus I now had four rooms. Now at 99 dollars a room that’s only 396.00 for the flooring. But after he puts in all his data to this tablet he has the price sky rockets to almost 9000.00 for a lousy 258 sq ft of flooring.

These people are con artists. Do not let them into your home. I asked for a breakdown and he refused to provide me with one. He told me he understood and when I was ready he would still honor that price.

A couple days later I received a phone call from a manager at Empire offering an additional $2K off the price if I install within 72 hours. He said they just got a huge shipment of carpet and could offer me a discount. So, I was thinking that this would be a great price. The original price discounted by $3K. I thought I would be nuts not to take it. I wanted to confirm the product before accepting the offer. He sent me an e-mail with what I ordered. The products I picked turned out not to be the Mohawk Everstrand - it was some product I never heard of. So I contacted the salesman to tell him the confusion and needed to find out why he said it was one product but the product specifics that the manager sent are different.

A week has gone by and I have still not heard back from the salesman. However, I have been in touch with the manager and he said he doesn't know why I was told it was a different product. I have NEVER been treated so poorly or discriminated against as a woman before as I was just treated by this Empire "salesman." If that is how he tries to get business, he needs to rethink his career choice. Within less than 3 minutes of walking into my home (in an unmarked car, no logo shirt or ANYTHING to show that he was with a supposedly reputable company), I was extremely uncomfortable and wanting him to leave. Right off the bat I was turned off by the strong cigarette odor (coming into my smoke-free home with a baby) but I could seriously not have predicted what was going to come out of his mouth.

The very first sentence out of my mouth was, "We have never done something like this before..." and I was rudely interrupted by, "Who is WE?" to which I replied “my husband.” He then goes off on a near-rant about how my husband needs to be here to listen and hear about the options. I tried to explain that I was very capable of relaying the information and that we have already discussed what we would like to do. It did not matter to him -- women are apparently just too frail to listen and view flooring samples without the assistance of a man. His exact response was, "Is there any way we can get him here?" Ummm, no, my husband is at work and not leaving to babysit me during a meeting I'm PERFECTLY capable of having on my own.

He made it incredibly clear that he was wasting his time by meeting with me (without my male chaperone) despite the fact that I was inquiring about re-doing our ENTIRE first floor in a high end material. This conversation about not working with me because my husband was not present went on and on. Just a tip, sex-based discrimination is against the law and at the very least, not a great sales tactic. If I hadn't been worried about my safety by this creep, I would have given him a piece of my mind. Instead, I'll just make sure NOBODY I know or come across will ever use Empire Today. Don't buy from them - all they sell you is promises and the carpet they put down in the first place was dirty because they cut it in my driveway. WHAT A COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!!

To be honest "$99 a room" this is what triggered me into calling them. The sales person was extremely nice, and took measurements, and after him clicking into his phone calculator he was kind enough to quote me...... $5200 for 350 square feet. That's right $99.00 turned into $5,200.00!!! I understand that there would be more cost for other materials and labor, but $5,000 worth. Seems more like a rip off to me.

Three years ago we purchased carpet from Empire that we were told had a very "SPECIAL FEATURE". The salesman talked up the fact that on this special high cost pet home carpet that any spill or pet accident would be easily clean with just a paper towel. It was SPECIAL because it was treated with a product similar to scotch guard. No liquid would seep into the fibers and would stay on the surface for easy clean up. NOT... when I called with a request for service today I am told that they do not have any such product and if the sales person told me that he must not have told me the truth. Empire is not willing to stand behind what the sales person said. I was told if the carpet was not professionally cleaned in the last 18 months there is no warranty. Not understanding how there can be a warranty on a product feature that they claim to never have. Total rip off.... do not buy from them.

I pity the poor suckers who fall for this. Just absolutely incredible. They advertise a $99 floor, any room, any style. Of course I read the small print and see where I have to pay the installation. They will quote that. I ask for an appointment for the $99 floor. They show up as scheduled and actually call a couple times in advance to make sure I will be there. They show up with a booklet of sample floors (I was using vinyl as indicated when I set up the appointment.) I started to pick out the one I wanted and the guy said "do you have a budget in mind?" I said, "yes, $99 plus the installation costs". He said, "oh, well none of these samples are included in the $99 special."

To make a long story short, he tried to tell me that the vinyl he brought would be well over $1000 for materials, $125 for a skim coat, and then the cost of the install on top. I told him to forget it...not even close to what I had been thinking. He said "Wait, let me call my boss". The ensuing phone call was so cliche....so 'we gotta help this guy out' within earshot of me. He hangs up and says, "Well, we can probably do it for 40% off". After he plays with the calculator...he comes up with $560. I thought for a second, and then he said "Plus installation and a skim coat". I asked him to leave.

These guys give the service industry a bad name...and I hope it is not a deserved name. Shame on you Empire.

I was at BJ’s Wholesale Club and they had a flier for Empire and a free estimate. I called and scheduled. Their Rep came to my house and measured the entire second floor for flooring. I wanted hardwood. He suggested a handscraped laminate that "REALLY" looks like wood and would be more affordable. He quoted $14,000. I said "NO, sorry that was too much". He then made a phone call to his boss, and said that they had 3 bedrooms and a foyer and that they would need extra manpower to handle the moving of the furniture, etc. and then could he do a better price. He said "O.K.!" Then he hung up and told me they could do $11,000 and start tomorrow because they have the extra workers.

I asked him to break down the price for the materials and the labor. I asked him 3 times for this information. I told him my son was coming from out of town and I could not start tomorrow, but I also would not be interested unless he would give me the price break down. I told him that he certainly had some formula that he used to punch in numbers on his calculator and that he could just tell me what prices he used and square footage for the product. He said that they don't price it that way.

I then asked how do they "price it"? He said that he can't tell me but that the reduced price from the boss would go away after he left. I told him this was the new millennium and that I was not stupid and would not order anything unless I knew exactly what I was paying for in materials and labor charges. I asked him to leave and he started saying that they could work around my company and they might not have the extra people at a later time. I asked him to leave again, and he became irritated because I was not going to sign his contract.

He asked me what price I was looking for so that he might be able to give me an additional discount to get the job started tomorrow. I then told him that if he did not leave my home that I was going to call the local police (non-emergency) and he put his pad of paper and his calculator in his briefcase and he left. I was relieved and I gave this information to management at BJ's and have told all of my friends to stay away from this company.

P.S. I had already measured my entire space and knew exactly how many square feet of product I needed and I knew what kinds of prices were available in the outside market for both hardwood and laminate. I also knew that the prices that I was being quoted were outrageous. I was able to purchase genuine oak hardwood that was a special buy at Home Depot and had it installed professionally. The job took 2 days. My total investment was just under $5,000. If I could rate zero stars I would have. Buyer beware.

Scheduled in-home visit - that was ok, felt like the rep was knowledgeable, but slick and good at his job... selling. At the end of his visit, we agreed to have Empire do our carpet and laminate. 2 hours later we had doubts and were looking online and read all the reviews. We felt like we'd made a mistake. Went to Home Depot the next day and for same quality of products essentially, we scheduled an in-home visit - sure we paid for measurements, but if we go with them that goes towards the final cost and comes off. In the end, the quote is about $1,500 less! That's a substantial amount. We didn't even want to deal with the hassle of negotiating with Empire as things with them seemed "off".

Cancelling with Empire has been our biggest issue. We were charged (on a Saturday) within an hour the whole amount. Wow, we were told it would stay pending until we were happy with our actual installation. We immediately cancelled - and told 3-5 bus. days. Then they called and had only cancelled half of our order. Not correct and total is still showing on our card after 5-6 bus. days. Called back, now they said it would be another 7-10. What?! FRUSTRATING!!! We want to be done with them but the official parting seems to be a waiting game. Do not recommend for customer service, following through, accuracy, price, etc.

First I would like to say I had never purchased carpet before and there were subtle signs that really let me know I should go elsewhere, but I ignored them. A relative of a friend had a good experience and I based my decision on that and the $99 room sale. I wish I had come across these comments and reviews before setting up a FREE CONSULTATION. But I was truly just ready to get the simple, small, project over and done with. Please... FOLLOW YOUR GUT INSTINCTS AT ALL TIMES and continue READING THIS REVIEW!!!

My first appointment was scheduled for January 2, 2015 which was great because I was off. About an hour before the time frame that someone was supposed to show up, the salesperson, Lawrence, calls, explains he's out of town on vacation and Empire must've made a mistake scheduling me on that day. He asked if it was possible that he could come Monday. I agreed because I happened to be off that day as well. He said he would call around noon Monday January 5, 2015. I received no call at all. I called Empire and explained the entire situation and the cust svc rep just scheduled me for another appointment on January 12, 2015. No apology for the current inconvenience. Ok fine. I need to get an estimate to see what I am working with so I agree to the January 12th appointment. Now I had a whole week to mull this over and check online, but life got in the way and next thing I knew January 12th was here.

On January 12, 2015, Lawrence (yes same salesperson!) shows up on time. Makes no mention of standing me up previously. How do I know it was the same salesperson? I kept the number he called from to cancel the first appoint and it was the same number he called from on the 12th and it was on his business card. But I am just ready to find out how much it's going to cost me. Now keep in mind I've never purchased carpet before so I am admitting I was clueless. But this $99 room sale sounds amazing and even with the added cost of the product it can't be that bad.

PROJECT: Replacing only the carpet in 1 small bedroom with dimensions of 10x11 with a carpet as similar as possible. The salesman gave his whole spiel, history of the company, etc. I know he must do this, but I also know I am only getting this one room done so it's no big deal. I look at the samples, pick the carpet. He measured the room and never told me what he came up with. So now I'm saying to myself ok that's a little weird. He starts telling me about all these discounts I am eligible for, etc. Now he's talking my language. He breaks out a calculator and starts computing figures behind his briefcase so that I cannot see what he is doing. But I can hear him banging on the calculator like crazy. If you've ever seen the scene of Tyler Perry's Diary of a mad Black Woman where Madea is in the kitchen adding on a calculator, that is the same exact thing Lawrence was doing, but he wasn't talking, just calculating. Right then I was thinking this is going to be really good or really bad.

It was really bad. I was told padding is included in the price and that's just how Empire does it so I couldn't get carpet only. The least expensive carpet quote was $614.27. And the rest went up from there increasing in $100-$150 increments. And they were all just flat numbers. Not a breakdown of what exactly I would be paying for and what discounts I was getting.

Should've said NO THANKS right then and there, but I really wanted this job done. He told me he could have one of his 20 crews back over here tomorrow and have the job done in an hour or so. I said ok, at least I wouldn't have to wait any longer. He pulled up the contract on his tablet and said I would get a copy overnight, I just had to sign some areas. Then he said he would need my credit card info or check to secure the appointment. He stressed that no one would get paid until the work was done and that I signed a certificate of satisfactory completion and gave it to the installer. That is how they get paid. So I said ok, it made sense to me. I made sure I saw that in the contract as well as my right to cancel and signed the contract. All this took place over the course of 40 minutes. After Lawrence left I spent 2 hours trying to comprehend how $99 plus cost of carpet turned into $614.27. I got online and came across this site and spent over an hour reading all of the horrible reviews. My heart sank. I had made a huge mistake. I had to cancel.

I called Empire Today the same night, about 4 hours after my free consultation and explained that I needed to cancel immediately. Please do not send any installers. The CSR told me the department that cancels installs is closed, but my cancellation is processed and they will just review it to make sure I get refunded. Refunded? I haven't had anything done to get refunded!! The CSR says my account shows a payment via credit card for $614.27 paid in full. Now I am furious, but I am thinking it must be an error. Lawrence said they don't get paid until the job is complete and I sign that certificate. When I got off the phone, I checked with my bank and sure enough, there was a pending transaction against my checking account for that $614.27.

The very next morning on January 13th I call Empire back to confirm my cancellation and make sure my money is being refunded. I spoke with a CSR who asked why I was cancelling and I told her I found someone to do it for less (I had not, but I didn't want to go through a whole song and dance). She asked for how much and I told her it was only 1 room and I found someone to do it for half the price they were charging me. This CSR tells me my business is appreciated and she sees some rebates that I am eligible for which would knock my price down considerably. It wouldn't be as low as half, but they really want to do business with me.

WHAT?!! Are you kidding me?!! I told her I would have to decline because even with the rebates, it doesn't take away the fact that money was charged immediately for services that were not completed and I am not happy with that. She reviews my account and told me she saw where there was a deposit charged. I told her that nothing was mentioned about a deposit and I would not have agreed to a deposit that was the full cost of the project. She said she wasn't there so she cannot say what was agreed to, but don't worry I would receive my complete refund in 3-5 business days.

Yes you read correctly. The same money they took immediately as a "deposit" now cannot be refunded for 3-5 business days. I am livid! I am mad at myself, Empire, Lawrence, the whole situation!!! She told me that because I used a credit card I would receive a refund much faster than if I had wrote a check which could take up to 15 days. Her final question was if there was anything else she could do to help me. My response was "Unless you can immediately refund my money the same way you took it, then no there really isn't any other way you can help me."

Is this situation over? No. I am so paranoid and skeptical because of what I read I call Empire back on January 14th, the day after I confirmed my cancellation, to make sure it was truly cancelled and the refund was processed. That CSR is showing the cancellation, the cancellation number and tells me it will be refunded in 7-10 business days. Excuse me!!! What happened to the 3-5 business days from yesterday? This CSR is sticking to her script and tells me it will be 7-10 business days and this is the credit institutions policy. The refund will be deposited as soon as they can do it. Ok is it 3-5 business days, 7-10 business days or as soon as you can do it?!!

I hang up feeling dumb and defeated. I should've known better. Empire immediately sent emails confirming my free estimate consultation and my installation. But when I cancelled, I received a cancellation number and no email to verify it. If it sounds too good to be true, many times it is. This story does end well though. I ended up asking another friend for a carpet install referral. I explained the Empire catastrophe and he introduced me to a local guy who came and assessed the situation. I bought some carpet from Lowe's for $150 (I had to get a 10x15 piece for the style I wanted). This local guy picked up the carpet and installed it. My all inclusive (carpet, install and tip) price was $260. I felt relieved and it took the edge off of having to wait to get my money back from Empire for work that was never done. Imagine looking at a room with jacked up carpet after $614.27 has been taken from your checking account. Not a good feeling.

Empire returned my money to my checking account on January 21, 2015. Technically that was 4 business days after I cancelled (the 19th was a holiday). But it felt like an eternity since it was 9 days from the date of my FREE consultation. Please beware of the $99/room sale. Especially if you are doing your whole house!! Attached are before and after pics of the bedroom that needed the carpet replaced. I just want you to see that paying a total of $260 for new carpet and installation does not mean the work is shoddy at all. I am extremely pleased now that Empire is out of the picture!!! NO THANKS to Empire Today.

We had Empire install their "highest quality, longest warranty, most expensive" Berber that they had in their portfolio. After 3 months, it was fraying and wearing so poorly we called them, they sent two inspectors and eventually deemed it "defective" and we scheduled replacement. I was told that there was no way the second batch would have problems. Wrong. The second install of the same product had the exact same fraying and poor wear again after 3 months. We called again, this time saying we wanted our money back. They would not provide any refund but offered to replace it again.

Since I had already purchased their absolute best and highest quality product, I have zero confidence that anything else would wear any better. We have been stuck trying to decide what to do since it is so bad I just can't stand it. It looks like the carpet is "furry" because it is fraying so badly in all traffic areas. This was a large install: master bedroom, walk in closet, family room, bedroom, mudroom, entry way and stairs.

We have already gone through this twice and I am so frustrated I could cry. When their product is deemed "defective" by 3 separate inspectors (twice the first time and one the second time) there has to be a bigger problem with their products in general. I don't know if I dare go through this with them again or if I should just spend another $5000 with someone else who has quality carpet.

My house was a working zone and furniture piled in one room and everything else cleared out and flooring pulled up everywhere. I didn't agree to pay extra for your company's mistakes therefore Empire Today company cancelled the installation on the spot, leaving my house a complete disaster.

All their tiles and flooring materials where left unopened or used and piled in stacks in my house. By myself and hurting my back, I had to move all the materials out of my house and stack in my back porch area so I could have room in my small house. The company said they would come and pickup all your materials, to this date THIS STILL HAS NOT HAPPENED but, my $5,355.00 check was immediately cashed same day they cancelled the contract and I was unaware. I have not been refunded yet either also, causing me several overdraft banking fees.

The customer service line is a nightmare. Keeping me and the contractor on hold for 20-30 minutes at a time and then transferring call causing to be yet again put on hold! At this point the company should be reimbursing me for continued storage and protection of their supplies. Not to mention for my pain and suffering. Besides calling the company over and over I sent an email and never have received a response. Lastly, their products are completely substandard. Due to their cancellation of our contract I had to go and purchase my own flooring and supplies at a flooring warehouse and the comparison in quality to cost is amazing. This alone is a great reason NOT to use Empire Today Flooring Company.

Every time I clean my floor, I am unhappy! A few years ago, my husband and I purchased laminate flooring from Empire Today. Consumers should be educated regarding the negative aspects of laminate flooring. I was not prior to purchasing the product. Pet owners beware! If your pet has an accident and you don't mop it up immediately, and I mean NOW, the flooring surface will lift and/or bubble. I would expect consumers with children may have the same issues since spills are frequent if one has kids. The flooring is NOT user friendly. It requires special cleaners, streaks when cleaned, scratches easily, and I have not found any product safe to use, according to the manufacturer, to disinfect the flooring should you wish to.

I did contact Empire Today and a representative was sent to inspect the flooring and interview me. The end result was that my problems were not covered under the product warranty. In fact, about the only thing that MIGHT be covered is fading from sunlight. Not a problem for me. Thank goodness, we did not replace the Pergo that my husband and I installed in one bedroom many years ago! It has performed beautifully! It is waterproof, scratch proof and you can use any cleaner you want to. I have even used diluted bleach and it has shown no ill effects. It is my opinion that Empire Today uses inferior products but charges premium prices for them. I truly regret not having Pergo installed instead of Empire Today's product. My hope is that your site will make other consumers aware so that they may avoid making the mistake that I have. I NEVER recommend Empire Today to anyone EVER.

Back in June of this year, I had some hardwood floors put in. First, the person who came out was very rude and in a hurry and told me to hurry and decide. They had the 50-50 off. What a joke. I had checked on what I had done with another company first and at the 50-50 off by Empire, it was the same as the regular price somewhere else. They gave me a quote and when I said that was too high, then they lowered it some. I decided to try them as I had never dealt with them before. Then, they came to do the job and didn't have half of the materials. They had torn all my steps up and didn't have the product they needed. I was left with my house tore apart for about a week while they got the stuff. Finally, they got it. I was very upset about the whole job as it was a headache from day one. I had done my dining room, kitchen, and steps, and hallway.

A few months ago, I decided to do my living room. I called them and asked when I could buy the hardwood and they said they were the only ones that could sell it to me and I wouldn't find it anywhere else and unless they installed it. I couldn't buy it from them. There was nowhere in their ad or anywhere else that states that. They were rude and said if I would have asked them when I first had it installed, they would have told me. I looked all over and couldn't find it anywhere. Now, unless I have them install it, I can't do my living room.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I wrote the company a letter and they refuse to respond to me and when I call the number, I get someone who has no say in the problem other than to argue with me about the situation. The first time I called, the guy told me that it was in my contract that I couldn't buy it without installation. The next time I called, I got a woman who said it was on their site. I have looked all over and there is nothing that says that. I now have wrote the second letter and they refuse to respond. Everyone should boycott them and don't buy from them. Their service sucks and you will be very upset in the end. Their so-called "sales" are a joke. They double the price and then when they give you the price, it is normal retail or more. They are a bunch of crooks. They will not respond to any problems you have and treat you like crap.

BEWARE, AND THIS HAPPENED IN LAS VEGAS. DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM AND I AM GOING TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IN VEGAS KNOWS ABOUT THEIR UNPROFESSIONAL DEALING WITH CUSTOMERS AND HOW THEY TREAT YOU.

December of 2011 Empire installed carpet in my living room & hallway was told the carpet they suggested was excellent for high traffic. My old carpeting of 18 years was better than what we received. Called about 2 years to complain carpet was matting and ripples. Pd 1,140. We're told it was our fault because we hadn't cleaned it within 18 months. No such information was given to us. She out and out lied to us. They were not willing to just replace the hallway. Very rude conversation. They sent papers with different info. Would never recommend them ever. Never.

Set up installation date. Wanted to be paid up front. I refused. They agreed to install and be paid afterwards. Laid carpet in street to measure and cut. Car ran it over twice. Installation was terrible. I criticized work and installer went crazy. Called me a ** . They left gaps near walls and only did 2/3 of carpeting in a closet. Left a huge area without carpet. On metal transition piece, they nailed it poorly and dented the crap out of it. The supervisor had to come back to fix the installation.

Their installation was so poor, it told me why they wanted to be paid up front. I have had carpet installed many times and there is no comparison. These guys were horrible. Stay away from empire. This was quite awhile ago and I am still steaming over it. What kind of an installer swears at the customer because he was criticized? The main office could care less when I complained about installers behavior, language and poor installation. Avoid this company at all costs!

We own a small ranch home and wanted tile in the small entry way and new carpet in the living room, hallway, and bedroom. Not a big job. They quoted us a price that seemed a little high, but since we wanted it done quickly & that is their claim to fame, we pulled the trigger and paid up front the night the sales rep came to the door. We told them the tile could be done any time but needed one week to get painting done before carpet. They said it could be done all in one day. Thought that was weird and tile should have been done first but they're the experts right?

Carpet people showed up in the morning on a Tuesday and went to work. Tile people showed up at 1:00 that afternoon and were frustrated that carpet wasn't done & thought tile should have been scheduled first. Ripped up plywood flooring, sawdust all over my new carpet, found a rotten board. Not their fault, couldn't proceed, took about 4 hours to determine this however. Said "if we got the board fixed it could be done within 24 hours." Got board fixed the next morning before 10 am.

Called sales rep, in a meeting. Called another rep that had stopped by during lunch, left a msg. Called sales rep again, no ability to leave a msg on phone, no answer. No return call all day. Got home at 4:30 & had a msg from the office, called back & she finally tried to set an appt for me. Finally scheduled tile for Thursday afternoon and carpet for Friday morning. Account rep stopped by on Thursday morning to check repair, said it was fine, now tile couldn't be done until Friday. Carpet will be done too. Tile people were supposed to call me on the way to job so I could get home to meet them, didn't happen. Called from house frustrated that no one was home. I was home 7 minutes later, by this time we have missed so much work dealing with this. It's gotten super frustrating.

Tile people worked on that all day, wore shoes on brand new carpet at times, but were very friendly and nice. Carpet people came and tile was not done. Got a call that tile could get messed up and would be better to do it on Saturday. Said fine, wanted it done but not at the expense of screwing up the tile. Carpet people to be there between 7-8 am. Got up early, they showed up at 8:10. Finished carpet finally. A one day process became a 5 day process. The manager had promised a credit of $150, which we thought was ridiculous given the problems, but said ok. Never saw the credit, marked them down on the sheets and said I wouldn't recommend them. Never heard from anyone about it, it's now been 4 days.

Also, the first tile people left product & when the second, different crew came, they were told backer board was there, it wasn't. They had to go buy some along with different grout, they were going to do it off white with the gray tile, I said "no" so they bought gray grout. The whole experience was a nightmare, do not use this company if you want organization and the process to go smoothly. The left hand apparently doesn't talk to the right, they are very unorganized and it was a horrible, very stressful experience for what should have been a very small, easy job. Will never use them again, wish I had gone with a local company who cares about the customer.

I paid $5,700.00 for my carpet and vinyl tile from Empire. My sales rep roped me in by telling me if I wasn't happy within a day of install - they would "come back and rip it up... but hopefully you won't do that". The entire install was to be done on Thursday 12/4. So I took 2 vacation days on 12/3 to prep and 12/4 for install. I am a single female who lives alone and I had a lot of things to move. While the carpet was being installed on 12/4, I received a call from another Empire employee who stated they had no idea I was getting carpet laid and they couldn't do it that day! Very upset, I took a third vacation day and missed 2 important events at work. They were to show at 8 on Friday. They showed at 9:30 and forgot the requested transition pieces. Those transition pieces were ordered by my sales rep the day before. I requested the grout line to be larger than what they showed me. So they started and I stayed downstairs.

Near the end I came up and the grout was thin and the wrong color. I immediately told them this was wrong. I called my sales rep who came over 30 minutes later. He brought his color samples in and confirmed on phone with another Empire employee the color was wrong. I also showed him where the transition pieces had been installed, that the carpet was bunched up and bubbled. He then made another appointment to that employee over the phone for 8 Saturday morning. I told him I didn't have a 4th vacation day and they would need to be gone by 11:30. He stated it would be quick. Saturday I woke up and they never showed! I finally called, and the Installation dept. had no idea they were supposed to show up - their own employee had made the appt! So... there went my opportunity to have my floor "ripped up" within a day of installation. They failed to comply with their own promise by failing to even show up within their stated time frame.

I am very disappointed with my floor and wish I had used someone else who could give me the grout width and color I asked for. Fortunately the other two workers who did my carpet were great, on-time and hard workers. They should get accommodations. Unfortunately I will not recommend Empire Today to friends or family. An expensive venture turned wrong. I was so excited to have my house looking good. I had saved up money for my down payment and financed the rest. I don't have any more options - since they won't help. Every employee I have been passed around to stated they cannot help me any further with my requests.

I had rugs put in 3 years ago from Empire Today. The workers that came to lay the carpet down were Spanish and they were speaking in Spanish as well! I guess they did not realize that my husband was Spanish speaking as well. They were talking about how they had to hurry up and get the rugs and molding down because they were already late to a party. Well they literally just threw the rugs down. I called a week or two after they put the rugs down and a woman and two men came and took pictures of the rug and the molding that is cutting up my 9 month old's legs (posted picture on Twitter). They said they would be calling to let me know when they will be fixing it. They never called or came back.

It should not matter how long it has been since they put the rugs down, they should come and fix them. It would have been fixed two weeks after the rugs first went down but due to their lack of respect and customer service nothing got done. I am extremely upset about this! I am to the point that I want to get a lawyer!! They are trying to tell me that it has been too long and that I will be charged for them coming to fix the rugs. That is just not right. They were supposed to come back and fix the rugs after the woman and two men showed up.

They are sooo nasty on the phone and have this attitude like they are better than their customers. I am so disgusted. My 10 year old could have done a better job! They did not cut the wood flooring right. They used metals molding instead of wooden molding which was supposed to go down. They did not staple the rugs right so they are all coming away from the wall. The rugs became torn and started shredding a week after and that is why I called them two weeks after. The molding is all dented from them hammering it in. They tore the wood flooring under the stove and did not fix. They did not cut the metal molding, instead they just bent it to make it fit.

My kids are getting hurt and they will not do anything because they are saying I waited too long. I called two weeks after, they came, did nothing. I called again they did nothing. Over time I got another job, had another child was in and out of hospital. I did not forget about my carpets but life gets busy sometimes. I called again after about 2 yrs and they said I waited and it is at my cost. But that is a lie. Like I said I called them two weeks after. It should be at their cost!

Customer service told me they don't guarantee against scratches even though the salesman told me and my wife the floor would not scratch. I also told them about the indentations and the poorly attached transition piece.

After arguing with customer service for a half hour they finally agreed to send out an inspector to look over my complaints. The inspector came over Monday 12/1 and looked over everything and took pictures. Empire customer contacted me today a said it would cost me $1000 for them to fix the floor. They said to call so I did. Worked with Mark ** here in NY and he was great. I received all new carpet. I did have to pay for installation which didn't bother me and I chose an upgraded carpet, much better than what I had before so I chose to pay a little more for that.

But I have all new beautiful carpet and they couldn't have been more helpful. The installers were great too. Fast and efficient. Gave me their contact info, said of there was any issue to call. I guess the help you get depends on the region you are in, but I am a happy customer. Thanks, Mark.

For those of you who are not one of the thousands that have had a bad initial experience with Empire, don't think you are out of the woods yet. I have an Empire carpet that is 6 years into a 10 year warranty. It is all crushed and matted. The salesman who sold me the carpet never mentioned the warranty. He didn't give me any information on the warranty or what I needed to do to maintain it. After 5 years I noticed how worn the carpet looked and downloaded the warranty information. It talks about general care but no specific 'must do' instructions. I contacted Empire and they asked me to have it professionally cleaned. Cost me $200. Looked the same. They asked for pictures and then told me the manufacturer would not honor the warranty because I had only had the carpet professionally cleaned once. Where does it say that in the warranty? Nowhere. That was the end of the story as far as Empire was concerned. DO NOT BUY EMPIRE PRODUCTS. Even if all goes well, they won't honor the warranty for the life of your product.

I told him right off the bat that I was only looking for a quote and that I was getting another quote that afternoon. He was perfectly fine with that, and we discussed what I was looking for in carpet grade, etc. I picked what I liked and he went and measured room to room. He gave me a very fair quote and I told him I'd be back in touch with him one way or the other. He even gave me his personal cell number.

After a bad experience with the other company, I made my decision. I liked how professional Scott was and I didn't feel pressured at all. I called him that night, and we set up an appointment for Sunday to sign the contract. Again he was right on time. There were no hidden charges, and we scheduled the installation for Tuesday. Installers called at 7am to tell me that they would be here before 9am. Showed up early, got right to work and installed the carpeting beautifully. I told them I didn't want my walls banged or scuffed since I just had my house painted. They cleaned everything up, vacuumed etc. and I couldn't be more pleased. I have not heard back from empire, winter is setting in. They may have to wait in correcting the problem. I don't want to move everything again for the workers to fix the problem. In the middle of winter...everything was until the workers put the floor down wrong. I can hear my 10 pound cat walking on the squeaking floors. The never ending story... I think that this is going to be a really long one. Will wait and see what happens. I just want them to fix the floors the right way.

The dilemma has been going on for several months. Torri began to take care of the problem within the first few days of finding out about it. In addition he handled the situation very professionally, friendly and effectively. His choice of carpenters to finish the job were the best there were available. The two workers were more like cabinet makers than carpenters. They were diligent and performed each operation with exact detail. They went out of the way to do the little extra things that are not expected. This operation overseen by Torri has made my home safer and much more attractive. I would like to thank the Empire Today company and all those involved for a job well done.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Purchased $9000 worth of flooring and boy were they happy to take my money and get my flooring installed within 3 days. Within a month the carpet fibers were pulling apart and forming bare spots on my floor. I called customer service and they sent the carpet installers out who took pictures and submitted them to Jim ** at ext. **. I received a call about 2 weeks later that I was approved for a reinstall of the carpet due to the factory defect. Lakesha at ext. ** called and left a message that she needed to set up a salesperson to come back out so I could pick my carpet color again. I called and left her several messages along with Michelle who works in the office that I didn't need a salesperson, that I just wanted my same carpet, I loved the carpet!

After a few weeks I finally called again and spoke to Michelle again and explained that I just wanted the same carpet, she scheduled the reinstall for me a few days later. I asked her at that time to check was the install for all the carpet since if it was all on the same roll it would all be defective. Michelle put me on hold and came back with the answer, "Yes, the entire upstairs."

Today the carpet installers arrived with only replacement for a portion of the upstairs because that is all that was approved on the work order. The installers told me that they were told to only come and replace a small spot and they refused and said no it's a high traffic area and needs to be replaced and they didn't want the reputation of a bad job. The company then approved the install for the living room and dining room. I called Empire Today and spoke with Jim ** and was told that's all I get that is all the mill approved. I asked him if he paid $9000 for carpet that was defective and only got a 1/3 of it replaced would he be upset. He was very rude and said "Yep it would be fine."

I asked for his supervisor and he gave me Paul **'s name at ext ** who conveniently was not in. I will call him on Monday. I told Jim that there are more spots in the bedroom and I was afraid that this would happen after the warranty expired that I wanted it all replaced. He was not helpful and very disrespectful. That is when I realized he had no authority to help me nor did he want to. Great employee for your customer service department! I will be happy to keep you posted to what happens on Monday.

Had home completely re-done by Empire Today in June 2014. Empire Today sales rep drew specific plans as to how we wanted new rug, vinyl, and laminate flooring to be laid. Communication problems with the installer led them to not do the floor as requested and drawn by sales rep. They refused responsibility for this after job was done. Called them right away on this problem, but no help was offered. Also, the rug that was installed caused allergic reactions to two of our cats, which resulted in us having to take the cats the veterinarian, causing additional expense.

Problem with the cats became so bad, we moved out of the home, but are still having to pay on the flooring. Contacted Empire Today and requested some financial relief due to problems caused by incorrect floor layout done and cat issues, in the amount of $1,500 or $1,000 to help us. Empire Today offered us $100.00 for all the headaches and problems we have encountered. They have refused to offer us any further financial relief, and we have moved out of the home, but still receive bills from Empire Today!

I spoke to Bob in the cancellation dept and explained my story and he was understand and promised to notify the "powers that be" about hiring better installers and having their salesman concentrate on the customer.

He is issuing a full refund and he also offered to take $600 off If I still wanted to get my carpet. He also said it was good for the next time if I purchased from Empire and he gave me his direct number. He apologized multiple times for my "ordeal". I am satisfied with the refund and apologies but once you get bitten you hate to put your hand out again.

Until they get a handle on their installers and sales people, I will not be ordering from them. I was able to get a great deal from another company and they will do the same job for $600 less so I am pleased. I figure everything happens for a reason. Lord knows I need to save every penny.

Salesman came for estimate. We picked the tan color. I was told that the delivery men would move all the furniture, install the padding and carpet and put it back in 2 rooms. I paid over $2100. When the men get there they refuse to move any furniture and they say that they don't get paid for that and that the salesman will say anything to sell the carpet. However it is in writing. Not only that but they brought the wrong color carpet. The salesman was supposed to devote his attention on us but instead he took many calls in between and got the color mixed up on the contract. This is totally unacceptable. I am livid. I live in NY and my parents are over 80 and I am their power of atty and only help. Empire needs to screen who they hire to install their products. I called to complain and I am waiting for a call back FROM THE MANAGER but now I have to rearrange my other delivery for my parent's new bed because now there is no carpet. I will never do business with them again. They LIE!!!!!

My husband was in an accident and became wheelchair bound in March 2013. We used our tax return in June 2014 to get rid of the carpet and get vinyl plank installed in the two main rooms of the house. (We had originally wanted laminate but the sales rep told us that vinyl plank was more durable and scratch resistant as long as we made sure to keep it clean.) The installers came on time and moved the furniture for us since we were unable to do so. They were fast, friendly, and efficient. They also moved the furniture back into place. We are very happy until that evening. The floor scratched that very night! Not from dog nails, not from heavy furniture but from my 4 year old son gently scooting his chair back. The sales rep aired us that this kind of thing wouldn't happen with vinyl plank!

In the 4 months since its installation, there are several more scratches that have appeared even though we sweep every day and make sure to not drag anything across it. The dogs nails stay trimmed and even when they "launch" across the floor, they don't leave marks. There are sections of the floor that are also coming up. Empire Today's solution to all of this? "We will split the cost of replacing the damages sections with you." Call me crazy but why aren't they willing to fix it and make it right without charging us? Especially the boards that are coming up! Over all I'm VERY dissatisfied and will NOT used them again - not recommend them to anyone.

As a result, the installers came in and installed the flooring against the old white non-matching molding and closed in the gap with a strip of laminate. Once I realized what they did, I contacted ET and spoke with their service supervisor who listened to my complaint and told me that I am right - the job is not done properly. I called the salesman and he admitted that he does not know much about installation and made a mistake.

After back and forth emails, they came in to correct it yesterday - the "correction" is full of gaps, the floor shifted and once the new molding was installed it opened up gaps between the floor and the wall, as I predicted but was assured that they can handle it. There is no support for the expansion strips and the floor is now sagging under the weight of the furniture. There is no continuum of flow between the rooms as previously and now the whole floor separated and is bouncing when you walk on it. It's a nightmare!!!

After 4 months the laminate began to buckle and so we bounce when walking across it. Called and another installer came out and said to us that the previous installer had not left enough space along wall for expansion of floor when there is variance in temperature, and he would return the next day to take up a portion of floor, trim it and replace it to remedy the problem. Next day Empire called to say they would be back to us in a few days. After a week we called and were told in no uncertain terms that they would not fix the problem because it was our problem for having a Florida room next to the room where the problem exists. Since the temperature is not the same in the two rooms, we are at fault. We asked why no one ever mentioned that there might be an issue before installing and taking our money, they had no reply. They have been nothing but a problem and would never do business with them again. Considering a lawsuit.

I wish I could give them zero stars. Never again will I call Empire. The other day I had an appointment, a window of 2 hours, which the salesman came at the very end of. He was very pushy throughout the whole process. I kept telling him I was not interested in scheduling an installation and that it would be 3 weeks to a month before I needed the carpet installed. 4 times he said to me "You want this installed in a week". Not as a questions, as a statement. In his mind I was already committed to using Empire. He kept bad mouthing other carpet installers, which he didn't need to do - I didn't care. I only cared about what Empire could do. He even bad-mouthed carpet installers I made up. Clearly he is just a salesman.

All I wanted from him was an estimate that I could use to compare with others and then make a final decision. They don't do that he said. They only hold the prices for that day. And If I wanted a written estimate I needed to provide them with a $200 deposit, sign a contract and as our salesman said "Take a risk". A risk? I don't think so. This all again because they assume you will be using them. He even insulted me a bit. He made the "Phone Call" back to the office to get me the best price and told the person on the phone that I don't care about quality and only want the cheapest and I will pick cheap over quality. Basically calling me cheap. No thank you.

The song and dance they put you through is worse than buying a car. Although, I should have seen this coming when he pulled out the leather binder with dozens of Empire printouts telling me how great they are. I should have paid attention to the reviews I read here and other places. Do yourself a favor, know what you are getting into. You will probably get an amazing price from them, probably too good to be true is all I can say. My advice, don't bother. It is a waste of your time.

Empire Today installed laminate floor in my Dining and Living room areas 2 years ago. My floor is now bulking, and when I walk on it the floor sinks in. I had Empire come out the first year and at the time I thought the problem was resolved. The next year the problem continued so I called Empire again. First call was Sept 4th, and then they sent repairman to come out with no product. This continued on for a number of weeks with calls and repairman coming out. Finally the installation manager came out and said the laminate was laid down too tight.

Long story short hearing from a group of people with and without flooring experience, the original floor should have been picked up before they laid the laminate floor and the underlay they used was not cushioned enough so it caused moisture between the 2 floors and that is what caused the bulking. When I asked the manager why they did they not pick the original floor up he responded "How would we know that the floor would cause a problem?" He then said Empire would do the repair and not charge me for 23 boxes but only 10, then they would pick up the original floor and lay down the laminate at a cost of $1700.00, I don't think so. This should have been installed properly and I would not have had this ongoing problem for 2 years. If I knew then what I know now, Empire would have never been my choice. To the consumers I hope you investigate other options before using Empire Today.

Salesperson Akeem ** arrived on time. When I mentioned the nationally advertised sale, he ignored me and said that the sale is only on carpet, not installation or padding. He then gave me of over $2000 for three small bedrooms. I asked him if that was 50% off the regular, he hesitated and said yes. I said, "Do you mean to say that the full, regular price for this order would be over $4000?" He unflinchingly said, "Yes." I said, "We have no deal," and only then then did he call a manager and come back with a price of $1475.

During all of this, he asked me why I was moving to this area (Lancaster, CA) as if one would be insane to do so. What an insult. Also, none of his business. He then asked me when I was moving in. Again, none of his business. He was completely over-familiar and somewhat menacing at the same time. I'm going to start here as a dry run for what I am going to do to Empire Today when I get to Yelp! My appointment was this morning. But, first, I had already gone online to get some estimates for laminate with sizes of rooms similar to mine from a few other companies, to include labor and taxes. Great, I have a ball park in mind. Here comes your representative, so very charming and professional, to the door. He comes in and we get right down to what we want. Downstairs laminate throughout, and new carpet up the stairs. We pick out colors, styles. Now, time for price. He gets his calculator out and does his thing. Oh, "it's your lucky day" because they are having a sale like no other! 50%/50%/50% on everything! This is one of the biggest sale for you and it's going on right now. (Uh huh, I already smell a rat). Long story short he quotes us a price, all inclusive 4,909.00. My partner and I had already said we thought 5,000.00. So, great, that will work. And, we can have the downstairs installed tomorrow! Boy, are we ever hooked.

As we are filling out the application and getting our checkbooks ready, there's your man on the phone. "Oops, I made a little mistake", and out the front door he goes to tell his "manager" all about it. Ah, here he comes, with a "realistic" price of...6,440.00. Yeah, a "little" 1,500.00 mistake. I've been in sales before, and even if I hadn't, I am smarter than Forrest Gump, and I get what's going on here. The phone call he took outside? I'm willing to bet it went a little something like this: "Yeah, I got these two chicks hooked, they were super excited when I told them the installation can be tomorrow, I don't think we have to come down at all! " I've been here before, most people have, they quote you a price that you want, and then turn around and say..."oh, wait..."

You should have heard this guy RE-explaining why the new price is right, as if that shouldn't have already been a consideration. Then, when I am calling his little scam out, he is telling me how he has been doing this for years, and it's not a scam, it was an innocent mistake. Ah, I see, and how often in all of these years do you make a 1,500.00 mistake? I said, "OK, well if it's YOUR mistake, YOU should absorb it." "Oh, no, I would get fired or something." Really? For an "honest" mistake? You lost a 5,000.00 sale over it, and THAT won't get you fired? 1,500.00 or 5,000.00 loss. What am I, STUPID? I'm supposed to think that losing a 5,000.00 sale is preferable to eating the 1,500.00 and giving me the original price you quoted? "I could maybe take 400.00 off." Great, now we're down to a 1,000.00 mistake, wow, THANKS!! What a favor.

I asked to talk to the MANAGER, the guy in charge. "Oh, he is just heading into a meeting", at 10:12 in the morning. No meeting starts at 10:12 in the morning. And if I am the manager, I can let the meeting start 5 minutes late to speak to a customer who was just about to hand over 5,000.00 dollars to my company. Nope, screw you customer, "there's nothing more we can do for you." It's the lying, the cheating, the scamming that, of course, pisses me off. But it's also the fact that your company does this to people who don't know any better. It's how you, obviously, conduct business. We read on Yelp! too late, that this goes on all the time.

As I questioned him on exactly what the mistake was..."the numbers". Oh, yeah DUH!!!! What exactly in the numbers, I'm a smart cookie, I'll get it. Around and around he went, and I was keeping up with him all the way. He must have felt like he rode a rodeo bull afterwards because after I lapped him, he stood there with a helpless look in his yes. I stared him down, waiting to see what he would pull out of his hat next until it was clear he was played out. I say, "OK, we're done." I tore the application in half, grabbed the "worksheet" where he had put his scam in writing. And let him pack up and leave. I have a wide reaching media footprint, and plenty of ways to articulate this kind of cheap, dishonest lack of ethics.

You must be doing great to have let a customer down so egregiously, and to let a sale walk out the door, knowing that you are going to get your company name and reputation exposed for what it really is. You are obviously very good at this since you have had "over 50 years" of "quality" service. Trust me, I will be relentless in my advertising, posting, spreading the word.

She put me on the phone with one of her bosses. He basically was trying to get me worried not to go with that product from that company. I've done plenty of home remodels and renovations in my life and the product from the cheaper price was better. Bottom line is that Empire Today overcharges people that don't know any better about cost of flooring.

Every bit of negative review online is true about Empire today (carpet and flooring). I read a few reviews and about how their salesman once they enter your house don't leave. As if they are trying to see what they can steal. I still called them as they were running some specials. The elderly gentleman who showed up at my house at almost 10:00 AM. He started gathering info and explaining the services they offer. I only needed carpet replaced for less than 1900 Sq Ft on one floor.

After almost two hours he was not even done measuring. I had an appointment at 12:45. So I requested him to hurry up. He took his own sweet time and then at 12:30 started making an estimate. I had mentioned to him earlier that I was trying to get an estimate as I would like to compare other places right at the beginning.

At almost 1240 he started stalling me more checking out what stuff I had in my house. He was on the phone at least 45 mins during the whole time he was there at my house. At 12:40 I lost my cool and asked him to leave. He slowly started picking up his stuff (samples, files, laminates etc). I picked up his stuff and kept it outside my door for him so that he can pick it up leave. Then he did exactly what I had read earlier on previous reviews. He asked if he could use our restroom. I showed him the restroom. He was in the restroom for more than 25 mins although I had told him that I had a 12:45 appointment. He stayed in the restroom till almost 1:00 PM and then came out. By then the bathroom stunk to high heavens and he dirtied the bathroom too. He peed allover the bathroom and there was tissue and water all over. Bottom line very unprofessional and worst company.

I have been duped by Empire carpet recently. I felt pity on this lame salesman and was conned into buying a so called Mercedes of the carpets. I agreed to pay $3000.00 cash including the installation. People who did the installation did an awesome job but the problem started after two days when massive amounts of lint started to come out of the carpet. The lint is in everything, in food, sticks to clothing, just everywhere. If this is their top of the line carpeting then who knows what their common household carpet is like?

I called them and filed a complaint; they said, "It's normal. Watch for 2-3 weeks and call us back." I waited, vacuuming, and removing the container full of lint each time every two to three days max. After 4 weeks finally I was able to get hold of them. They said, "We will send a professional cleaner to take care of the issue."

They showed up next week and did the cleanup and they too were surprised at the massive amount of lint but they did their job and left. I was happy assuming that the problem was fixed now that it's been washed, but to my surprise the lint continues to come out again. I got upset and called them again. They sent yet another rep to take some pictures to make a case for the supplier. Weeks passed no reply. I called them again. They said there will be another 3rd party inspection. Holy crap! How many inspections???? Each time we have to take a day off just for these people to show up and then say it's not their call it's someone else's. How unprofessional!

After almost close to 200 days they came to a conclusion that the carpet has no defect. I had to call in to find this out; they never cared to bother calling me and informing me about this. Today I called them and asked for the refund so the lady said, "I will transfer you to the specialist." I waited for 15 darn minutes and nobody took my call. It is clear to me now that these people are a big rip off . I am going to get my refund no matter what. I am going to take legal action if they refuse and I will reach out to every website possible to spread the awareness about Empire scams until I get my full refund. My humble request to everyone out there, buy your carpet from any place you like, just don't give your business to Empire.

To top this off, I paid for tile floor which was place at 10pm at night and the men did not leave my house until 12 midnight. I paid again on my Capital One card $498, that is not including the carpeting. My house is not over 1200sz ft. Just the dishonesty of people. They are stating I still owe $3,500 just for the carpet. Our Company has had a relationship with Empire Today since about 2005 and I guess they thought this loyal customer would remain loyal regardless.

I ordered vinyl tile from our regular Salesman George ** for our office. Tile was selected, installation details worked out and job paid for. Pretty simple process as always. The day of installation, the installer goes over the instructions and reviews the tile selection and I noticed that was not the tile I selected. I immediately called George. I then get the explanation that there are variances in color from batch to batch. I inquired if there was a possibility that the sample board he used was labeled incorrectly. He assured me over and over again that was not the case. After insisting this was the tile I selected we proceeded. Once the job was complete, it was revealed a couple of days later that the sample board WAS incorrectly labeled and they did install the wrong tile. (Strike # 1)

The second phase of the installation was scheduled and I requested the same installer since he was familiar with the project and I really liked his work. Once again, I was assured that he would be there at 5 AM as planned. The day of installation comes, I'm at the office at 4:45 AM... and the installers did not show.

When I called "Customer Service" line I was reminded that the time of installation is just a request and they couldn't guarantee the time - despite George calling his manager and assuring me that it would be done at 5 AM. Customer Service then proceeds to tell me that another installer will be there between 9 AM and 11 AM. I told them not to bother because this is a place of business and I can't have the noise and demolition going on during business hours - why couldn't they understand that.

I get transferred to the National Scheduling Manager (Ray) and we discuss (again) the reason for my request. He states he will come by the office to look at the job and determine the best way to proceed. Till this day he has yet to stop by. Instead he sends Robert the local manager who has no idea what is going on as he is returning from vacation and the only information he is given is that I am a “**” and am very upset. All this time, the salesman is nowhere to be found. (Strike # 2)

Robert and I go over the job and installation details again and we come up with a plan to have the installers start at 5 pm (the first time this was given as an option of evening hours) and work through the evening over 2 days. Little did I know that I would be at the office with the installers until 1 am each day but the second phase was complete and they did a great job.

Now we move on to the third phase - carpet installation in our Board Room. Based on the previous reviews, the "deal" they gave me for the inconvenience was no deal at all. I had to reschedule a couple of times because I had to time it with the meetings scheduled in the room all the while keeping the full communication with the call center so the installers would not make a trip in vain - a courtesy they couldn't give me.

I am finally able to schedule the installation and confirm once again the start time (5PM) and the same installers as before. Once again, I am assured that it is all set and my regular installer will be there. How they love to say "Yes" when you are on the phone but had difficulty delivering.

The day of installation, after an hour of waiting, I call the "Customer Service" line again - now I am informed that Jesus (not my regular installer is running behind on a job and should be there shortly). When I keep inquiring as to why my regular installer is not coming as requested and promised, the response I received was "What do you want me to do?" I replied, "Deliver what you promise." I was then transferred to the Supervisor - Marcy who explains that they are just the call center and they have no control over the scheduling. I then ask her to transfer me to the person who does have control over the situation. She replied, that would be Ray the National Manager. I said don't bother because he was a no show that last time we had an issue. She then gave me the option of Robert at the local office. I asked for the office number and she was unable to give it to me. I would need to call the call center again and ask for his extension. I then asked for her full name because people are going to held accountable. She refused. I replied how convenient because when I call tomorrow and tell the manager what happened there won't be an employee by the name of Marcy.

After that conversation ended, I left a message to the salesman - George letting him know that he has lost a long standing customer and I will be finding another vendor to not only finish our office but handle our 15 other offices since Empire doesn't seem to want our business. When the installers finally did arrive, I sent them home.

I now understand why customers no longer show loyalty to companies because businesses show no loyalty to us. If I pay full price I expect full service. "I Apologize for the Inconvenience" does me no good as this simple project is now going on 2.5 months and still not complete. How upset would Empire Today be if I promised them full payment and then gave them sub-standard payment followed by excuses like "I don't have control over the situation", "It's not my fault", "I Apologize for the Inconvenience." Then why should I settle for sub-standard service? This is why they have lost yet another customer.

Bottom line: if you love to haggle, this is the company for you. I read many bad reviews about this company and it's sales tactics and should have known to stay away. The salesman was in my house for almost 4 hours. My house is small, 1200 sq ft, and when he came back with a quote of $3000.00 for the carpet and $8000.00 for the hard wood I laughed and said "no way". He then did what I read about in the reviews but couldn't believe it; he went to call his manager to get a better price. After many calls he got the price of the carpet down to $1700.00 and the hard wood to $5500.00 (which I still couldn't afford). I agreed on the carpet but he wanted a commitment on both. I said no. He then had to go and call his manager again. He came back in and said ok, it's a deal, just the carpet. It should also be noted that after the sale was completed the salesman told me that he doesn't make any money working for Empire and that usually these free estimates are a waste of his time unless they are for large complexes or commercial buildings.

The next day I was still annoyed by the whole situation so I called Empire to cancel my order. When I spoke to the man on the phone he asked why I wanted to cancel and I basically said that I have no idea if I got the best price and I didn't trust the sales person. He said that he may be able to better on the price. He put me on hold and when he came back on the phone he said they could install the carpet for $1500.00. I figured I'd take it one step further and just blurt out the price I wanted to pay, $1200.00.... he said yes! What the hell!? Why can't this company just give you this price to begin with!? I ended up paying $1200.00 for 600 sq ft of carpet plus stairs and they hauled away the old carpet. I felt this was a good price. The next day the installers came by on time and installed my new carpet in under 4 hours. They were at my house for less time than the salesman was and they were more professional. They did a great job and all seems well. I would never buy anything from Empire again solely on the grounds of shady sales tactics.

Less than 2 years ago, we ordered carpet from Empire Today. Less than a year after installation, the carpet began to buckle. To their credit, they came and restretched the carpet. Since that time, the carpet has begun to buckle in another room. They said it was out of warranty and we would need to now pay to have the carpet restretched. The carpet is of substandard quality and not what we paid for (2 bedrooms ran $2,500). We did not appear to have been given the advertised special. While I can't prove it, I believe that we also received a substandard pad while paying for an upgrade. Having bought and sold several homes and purchasing carpet from several different vendors, this is the only time we have ever experienced this kind of buckling and poor workmanship. Their customer service is non existent. I would never, ever do business with them again and I would strongly recommend that no one else do business with them either.

We ordered tile and four rooms of carpet from Empire today. The carpet installers arrived a day later than expected and when finished left without mentioning all the unfinished edges and raw wood left exposed where the carpet meets the tile. When got home and saw what they did I called to complain. The installer said he had to call and find out what "they" wanted him to do. He said the tile Sub floor, also installed by Empire, is the problem. I wondered why this installer just went ahead with the job, said nothing about the problem and offered no opportunity for us to reject the carpet install or find an acceptable alternative. They slapped in the carpet and left saying nothing. I also feel and hear something under the carpet in my bedroom.

Empire Today answered my complaint by telling me they cannot install carpet the way they agreed. Oops, sorry we made sure to tell the salesman not to offer that to others. Amy who spoke to me tried to make me feel it was my fault that this was done, "it is what you wanted". I was offered ugly brown or silver metal strips and said this is how they could fix the problem. This is exactly what we did not want and would not have ordered the carpet if that was our only choice. I told them to fix it as per our contract or remove it. I am still waiting for a repair with no response from the company.

The day came when the deliverers were to show up between 8 & 5 to do our entire house and they showed up at 5 00 p.m. They proceeded to begin to rip out our old carpeting to install the new carpeting and it was getting late into the night. Only one of them spoke broken English, the rest could not understand a word I said. They were in such a hurry to put the carpet in they were piece mealing some parts together on the stairs. Within one year our carpet began to buckle and mat down quite a bit. So we called them to try to follow up to get it stretched. They never followed up back with us. The carpet was crappy after only two years and we take good care of our carpets, vacuuming them all the time and not spilling anything on them. Due to their poor delivery and follow up, I will not be buying anything from them again.

The old carpeting looked worn in traffic areas, and we thought it was time to replace. We take a great deal of pride in our home. We vacuum 2 or 3 times a week. The installation process was fine. The issue is that the carpeting is simply not holding up well at all. We did not get the low end either. The stairs are wearing quickly and the carpet needs to be stretched in 2 rooms. Needless to say, we are very disappointed. After calling twice now, still no resolution. I simply want a representative to come out and take a look. Did we get a bad roll (s) of carpet? Is this normal wear for their carpeting? I also requested that Empire stretch the carpeting in two areas. I will call again, but thought I would try this route as there is still no resolution.

Then the vinyl installers tracked glue on my bedroom carpet, got the glue all over the baseboards, knocked a dent in the fridge, the sheetrock in the kitchen got gouged. All the dust from the hardwood sawing to trim went into my desktop computer and fried the internal components. I called several times complaining but got nowhere except they kept saying they wasn't responsible for the computer. They came out several times to re-do the vinyl because they have rookie installers. Every time a crew came out it was a different bunch. One crew came out and it was some little guys who didn't speak much English and couldn't even pick up the fridge. So I had to help them. I'm 6'4 and 225 lbs. It was god awful. The salesman walked in and immediately handed me a empire today bobble head of that old cartoon man you see on their commercials. I thought well that's cute. He then spent a great deal of time talking about a "side" business he and his wife have selling their own brand of coffee. And implying he was only selling carpets to help pay the bills. This really annoyed me that Empire sends a salesman that isn't really into his job but is only doing it as a side thing.

I asked about the buy one get one room free deal and was told that's only "select styles". That's just another way of saying "the crappy stuff". I only needed the upstairs carpeted (less than 500 feet...we live in a small row home). The salesman went upstairs and proceeded to tell me "you can have carpet on Monday (it was Saturday when he was there) and they can do it in 3-4 hours. Now I know I have a small home but how can they pull all the old carpet, move furniture, and lay new carpet in 3 hours? It's impossible. But he insisted it could be done. I insisted it couldn't. I also wouldn't want them to rush the installation and make mistakes. He said they only get really good installers. And by his own admission...most don't speak English but have passed rigorous testing and requirements. I asked, if they don't speak English how are they passing any tests? He replied, "they're not tested on vocabulary but on ability."

He took his measurements (410 sq ft) but added an extra 20% for a total of 492 sq ft. Comes downstairs and takes about a half hour to do a drawing and scribble some other things down. He hands me the quote and the first number, their "list price" was so outrageous I had to laugh. It was almost $6,000!! For under 500 sq ft. Of course then he subtracts all these BS discounts like First time homeowner, civil service discount, etc. This gives the appearance that one is getting all these discounts but they are not. Empire merely inflates the initial price.

When I said I had other bids to consider he became very defensive and said I needed to sign a contract to "lock in the price". I said I wasn't signing anything. He finally left after nearly 3 hours. For the last three days I have receiving calls from Empire saying I am eligible for ADDITIONAL DISCOUNTS. That is an insult to me. If I was eligible for a lower price it should have been disclosed to me at the time of the quote. This company is a total scam!! Do not buy from Empire Carpets.

My wife and I had Brazilian Cherry hardwood floors ordered for our house in the living room and kitchen area. The crew that came by were sub-contractors and not direct employees of Empire Today. The Brazilian Cherry "hardwood" that they put in looked more like a laminate made of some cork wood, not real wood. It was not a sturdy "wood". The wood, as it turned out, had pre-existing wear or lines in them, as if they had been removed from another location, though the shine of the floor looked nice. As time went on the floor began to warp in several places, and where there was weight, like where our refrigerator and TV console was, the installed floor began to sink about 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch. Our original floor was perfectly flat, and despite what floor installers tell you, the house did not "settle" causing all this after their install. The material under the (fake?) wood was giving away, the cushion between the original floor and the installed floor. When we saw it was spreading, we called Empire Today Customer Service in May (2014), about 7 to 8 months after install, attempting to take advantage of the one-year limited warranty, though the problem was definitely the install, not the material or us.

Nobody called on us so we called again, and then got another crew out, not the first. The original sales person, Karen, finally did call back and I wanted to directly speak to the original two-man crew that installed the floor. I was told that they "no longer worked for the company", but that they "had been good installers". I very much doubted that. I began to think that the problems followed this crew that Empire Today sent to our home. The other crew came in June (2014) and acknowledged the problem. They took pictures, but we didn't hear from Empire Today again, so I called again, and Customer Service acknowledge the June service call, and they put another call to the local rep here in Toledo, and again, no call, no message on voice mail or message machine at home, no text, no email. It is now August 18th, and I am calling again. I may have to call my attorney and/or bring this company to Small Claims court or higher if the near $6000.00 we spent for this little flooring we got doesn't get results. I would like a full refund for the floor. We don't want to go there, but there are other companies that do better than this.

Wanted to share my experience with Empire Carpet in Colorado with any other consumers who are thinking about using them for your carpet purchase/installation. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! This was the worst experience ever - it made buying a new car seem like a dream! First off, I cancelled my appointment, but the salesman still showed up. Since he was there, I let him come in and show me what Empire had to offer. We had already had two other bids, and were pretty set that we were going with another company. After talking to him, looking at the samples and having him measure my home, his price $1,100 higher than the other company we were going to use. He told me that he would match that price, that the price included furniture moving, AND he could get me started that Friday/Saturday. I asked for his price in writing (which was $5,199), and received it in writing the next day. I felt it was a pretty good deal, so decided to go with Empire.

He came over the next night (Thursday) and I signed the paperwork. He then told me that Friday would no longer work for installation. I said then I would have to wait for a few weeks then due to our schedules. He said they would do it Saturday/Sunday instead. I said that was fine. Saturday morning at 8:00 am, the phone rings. It was Empire calling to let me know that the carpet I chose was not in stock. Strike 1. I told them that I was going to go ahead and exercise my right to cancel the contract (I had 3 business days). She told me they would give me a different carpet (the next level upgrade and a moisture barrier pad). I said fine, chose a carpet and they arrived about 10:00 am that morning to install (We had already cleared one room of furniture ourselves to help the installers and to try to move things on a bit quicker).

When the installers arrived, they called the office to process our payment. The office tried 3 times but could not get the payment processed off our debit card. I then gave them a check from the same account and it went through fine. To me, this was Strike 2. The installers told us that our home was going to be a 2-day job, and that they did not work Sundays and that they would have to finish on Monday. Strike 3. I immediately called the installation center and told them what I was told and that my salesperson had told me originally Fri/Sat and then changed in to Sat/Sun. I told them they needed to figure it out or we would be sending these guys away (even though furniture was already moved). I told them it was not acceptable to have the job finished on Monday and if they had to do that that Empire would compensate us for having to miss a day of work.

After an hour and a half, they assured me that someone would be out Sunday morning to finish the job. While on the phone with customer service, I asked the price of the carpet that we were changed to and the sales rep told me that it would cost $4989 for that carpet in my home which was LESS than what I was paying. I asked for the cost of the original carpet I ordered and it was $5300 which was $1,200 less than the original price he quoted me BEFORE he matched my other offer -- so... He quoted me more than it would have even cost if I went with his original offer! AND The upgraded padding I was told I would get DID NOT GET (Strike 4)!!!!! The installers also told us that they were told this was an empty house and that there was no furniture to be moved, and they didn't have enough workers to help move. Therefore, NO ONE helped with the furniture moving. We did it all ourselves. When I told customer service this, they said they would compensate us $125 for moving the furniture (2 days and 6 rooms' worth of furniture because the Sunday installers did not help either!).

When Sunday morning rolled around, no one had called or shown up so I called the installation manager to find out when someone could be expected. She called back and said the original guys she had told to come out were not answering so she had to call another crew. By noon they finally got there. They finished at 5:00 pm. Then my husband and I were left to move all the furniture back.

This was the most horrific experience ever!! To be WAY overcharged ($1200), to not have the carpet in stock that we ordered and find out the day of installation, to have them not know how to process a payment, to have the installers show up (to what they were told was an empty house) not expecting to move furniture, and telling us that they would not be back until Monday, to not getting the upgraded pad, the Sunday installers not showing up until noon, to having to move everything ourselves. Please re-think your options! Everything they promise is not what you are going to get. You will eventually get nice carpet but not without hassle and many headaches!

We contracted with Empire. At first it went well. They discovered asbestos underneath our 60-year-old parquet, so we went with carpet. The carpet installation took place in April. It turned out to be manufacturer flawed. Something called tip shearing. A manager came out and saw the flaw immediately and said the carpet would be replaced. A fair deal. Please note that we were extremely happy with the crew that did the first installation.

The second carpet installation crew did awful work. Not only that, but they damaged a portion of the baseboard and the wall above it. They "repaired" it. The so-called repair job consisted of using a totally different paint (shiny) over the bent and lumpy "repair". Note that the first installers also installed new baseboard throughout the entire house, so this was not old baseboard at all. The crew did not inform us of their damage. We saw it as we were walking around when they were finishing up and asked what happened.

Another issue is that when scheduling the replacement carpet, we specifically requested the first crew. Obviously, this did not happen. When we were scheduling a repair of the baseboard today, August 8, we again requested our first crew. No problem, we were told. Well, the same second crew showed up this morning, didn't seem to "remember" their damages, kept blaming their damage on the age of our house and crooked walls. Note that the first crew did a beautiful job. It will be a continuing saga as we now will wait for a phone call from Empire. Do not use this company.

The installers did a poor job and they were tripping over each other to get out of here. I also paid extra for them to move the furniture and they just took off.

Requested an estimate for the second level of my townhouse. Estimate came back totaling $5200. I asked the sales guy why so much. He stated that the area was 1800 square feet. My townhouse is 2000 square feet and only the second level needed carpet. I have no idea where he got 800 square feet extra from as the whole entire floor is tiled. I immediately went to D'Best, where my estimate was $1800 total for 1000 square feet. My frustration continues as now Empire continues to call me, telemarketing style nonstop, about the estimate and how they can bring the price down. I told them I have already installed the carpet and they were rude in saying congrats! But it will take two weeks to remove from our dialer. Frustrating situation all the way around. I don't recommend anyone to call these people as you will just have headache after headache.

I'm just unhappy how they conduct business. They start with a ridiculous price and give you all these magical discounts. So the person from empire showed up, showed me a carpet I kinda liked. Then said, "oh the better one is way more expensive and we have a cheaper version of this", so I said I'll just go with the mid range. The person measured my apartment which is 1189 square feet and said that the amount of carpet they need to order is 1105 sq ft.... I only needed 3 rooms done. The areas that were not carpeted was kitchen, 2 bathrooms and laundry room... so really it should be no more than 800 square feet. So they quote me about $4900 and change, then they get on the phone and say, "oh I have to call the manufacturer since I am getting more than 800 square feet, they get volume discount". So they give me 15% off and that brings it down to about $4200.

Right after that, I took the quote to home depot and showed it to the carpet guy and he almost pissed himself laughing at me. Told me based on the square footage empire gave me, they could sell me a better carpet (higher oz weight - empire was selling 40oz and home depot had 65 oz and 50oz, they didn't even carry the cheaper one) for $3000 based on the higher end carpet and about $2500 for the lower end with installation included (he also doubted that the measurement was accurate based on what I told him). So I asked them to come in and give me a quote and then I called Empire to cancel the order. The guy I spoke to wanted to give me a deal, match home depot or anything to get me to stay but I don't want to play their games anymore.

Expect to pay over double for any kind of flooring from these con artists. They prey on stupid people that fall for just about anything. Same folks who buy swamp land in Florida. Their advertising is completely false and I can't imagine how this company has avoided prosecution. I imagine that it's the same way that used car salesman have done it. Their quality of carpet and other flooring is the cheapest, lowest, contractor grade that you can find that they try and pass off as higher grade carpet. Their pricing is over double than what Lowe's or Home Depot charges for real quality flooring.

Buy one room and get the rest free is total crap. The sales person measured our house and gave us an estimate over 30% more than our entire home was including our garage! We were only carpeting the upstairs and the stairs as the whole downstairs is tile and hardwood floors. I asked the person to remeasure and or check their math and they assured me that they were correct. I've been in construction my whole life and never have I ever ran across such a blatant liar. It was downright creepy having this person and this company in our home. They tried the pressure tactics on trying to get us to sign, called repeatedly over the next few days, and we were so freaked out we were afraid that their sales person was going to come back and do something to us because we didn't sign their contract.

Empire is a complete and extreme con all the way. Lowe's came out and measured our house and it was spot on exactly as I had measured the upstairs and stairway. We got 10 times better carpet, pad, complete hallway of the old carpet, and installation of the new carpet (took 6 hours) for 40% LESS than the Empire quote. Empire Carpet and Flooring are predators and con artists. BEWARE!!!!

Bought carpet from these folks in January 2013. Recently, the carpet began to tear down the middle. Called the customer support number this week for help. Got lots of questions such as: how many kids do you have, and other questions designed so that they don't have to honor the warranty on the carpet. Finally, got someone to come out today.

A guy named Matt ** from the Eagan, Minnesota office came today. This guy is a CROOK! I told him I was recording his visit to protect myself, and he said that's fine, he records ALL of his calls. He refused to give me a business card when I asked. Started taking pictures of the damage. Said, yeah, it is by a couch. He asked for my cleaning records, said the guarantee would not be honored unless it had been professionally cleaned. Well, my wife and I have cleaned the carpet, and besides, that is not the reason it fell apart. The carpet fell apart because it is CHEAP JUNK, even though our salesman (who was another sleaze bag) promised it was good quality.

After this interaction, I told him it would be replaced by them or I would sue them. I mentioned the fact that 1000s of complaints exist against this company, but he didn't think that was a big deal. Really, 1000s of complaints is not a big deal? Since he refused to give me a business card, I decided to take a picture of the paperwork he laid on my table. When I did that, he said this was over and grabbed the paperwork and headed towards the door. Apparently, he didn't like my attitude, because he then proceeded to tell me that he was ex-military and that if I came to his came he would 'show me his medals.' I think that I was supposed to interpret that as a threat? At that point, I told him he had 30 seconds to get off my property before police were called.

To sum up, I am clearly incredibly unhappy. I don't like being sold junk product, I don't like it when scam companies don't stand behind their product, and I very much don't like being threatened in my home. I will be filing suit against this company next week to recover the damages that they have inflicted on me. Additionally, I will be filing complaints with ALL federal and state consumer protection agencies, and I will be creating a website about my experience with this company where I will post the video of this person's visit to my home. At a bare minimum, this Matt ** should be immediately fired. He is clearly not able to interact well with customers. I don't really give a damn if he's ex-military or not, you don't walk into someone's house with a bad attitude and treat them poorly in front of their children. Obviously, I was rude to him as well, but I'm the only one who got screwed here. I'm out the money that I paid for their junk carpet, I'm out the time that I wasted dealing with their useless staff, and I will be out the additional time that it will take for legal action against this company.

I honestly don't think these folks should be allowed to stay in business. Clearly, they think a certain level of very angry customers is acceptable and the cost of doing business. Like Mr. ** said, 1000+ complaints is really not that many. I noticed that the State of California sued them and got a judgment, perhaps other states should do the same.

AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!! THEY WILL SCAM YOU!!! READ THE REVIEWS... THEY HAVE SCAMMED MANY, MANY PEOPLE!!!

"If you don't give me the check now I am leaving and not doing the job." Well, they give you no choice. After getting the check, he started speaking Spanish to the other worker while in the middle of a conversation with me. I asked him to either speak English or translate to me what he said - keep in mind we were still talking about the carpet. He said "I was not talking about you so I do not have to speak English in front of you." I said, "When you are up here (the carpet was to be laid in the basement) you need to speak English or translate so I know." He got mad, said he was not doing the job, then he calmed down and went to the basement, then he tells me he can't do the job because he does not have the tape.I told him that is not my problem but Empire's. He said he would have to go out and buy the tape, then he says he can't lay the carpet because the basement floor is cold. I told him he needed to lay it anyway. (He had the tape on him.)

He packed all his stuff and called his office. They never spoke to me even though I called too. Evidently they told him to do the job. He started asking when my son was home, when I was home, what hours we worked. I told him that was not his business. Then I look out the window and they had laid the carpet out on the street, the street mind you and then rolled it and brought it in. Is that common to put your new carpet out on the roadway that was just recently tarred? Management never got back to me and they got the money. I never signed anything saying I was happy or unhappy. He got my check and that was it for them. Do not use these people.

We came to a compromise with Empire and this complaint has been resolved.

    Original Review: July 30, 2014

We had Empire install Brazilian Cherry hardwood floors...1000 sq. feet... almost our entire downstairs. Had major cleaning up, damaged walls, etc. that we had to fix. After a couple months, noticed white spots on about 25 boards - very ugly. Reported to them. They came, inspected and then said the manufacturer will replace entire floor rather than each board. So once again, we had to pack up the entire lower floor of the house, move piano, etc. and what was to be a 3-day job turned into 2 weeks - torn up house, dust everywhere... not a good thing with asthmatics in the house and 3 dogs!!

They brought the wood and it was so bad they couldn't lay it... The installer who contracts with them refused to lay it - it was crappy wood!! Empire refused to use another manufacturer to get us good wood. We asked for a refund so we could find quality wood with another company... they refused!! So they found more of their manufacturer's wood in California and we are up in Washington... said they would expedite it up... Took 6 days. Really??!! All the while, we are living in a total mess. The second batch of wood arrives and found 3-4 boards in each box that were bad.

The installer had to check very closely each board before installing which took more time. We had to change vacation plans. We were wheezing for two weeks, having to eat out since kitchen was part of this... It was total chaos. Asked for some compensation for all the losses we had... deep cleaning, piano re-tuned, packing, unpacking, etc., etc. We paid $18,000 for the floors and we asked for $3,000 back in compensation and they would only pay $1,000 and only then if we signed this contract saying we give up all rights or claims against Empire, no bad reviews, no "telling" everyone what a crappy company they are but we could still have our 1-year warranty on the floor and then as I am talking to the customer service manager, she goes online and says, "Oh this type of wood can get white spots. It's part of the wood".

Then WHY, if it was normal, no one told us that and why would the manufacturer completely replace the floor... Those boards should not have been in there. The manufacturer didn't "grade" them properly... Well obviously we didn't sign it... We now have a sub-quality floor and watching to see when the defective boards will start showing up, no compensation for our losses/time. It's obvious they could care less about customer satisfaction... I'm only writing this to warn people to beware of them.. We have never had anything like this and wish I had seen these complaints before we bought our floors through them. My bad, but hopefully someone will be spared what we've been going through.

They sawed in the house, which would have been fine if they had cleaned up. They did my hallway which leads to all of the bedrooms and bathroom.

After they left I walked into each room and found piles of debris and in some cases there were screws on the ground. My bathroom was left extremely dirty. I also didn't like the fact that they went into my bedroom to find weights to be used to hold down some of the molding. I called and have someone coming to fix the nail holes. They didn't care at all about the lack of clean up. I even took pictures. In fact, I was taking out the trash later that day and found old carpet padding in my bushes!!

The products we chose have been as promised but that is where it ends. The actual installations have been sloppy and sub-par. There have been many attempts to correct the work but every time it was only made worse. The installation department as a whole seems to be very disorganized, i.e. sending installers without the correct materials for the job, sending the wrong installers for a specific job, setting appointments that nobody shows up for or are extremely late, not returning phone calls in a timely manner when promised, and fabricating stories as they need.

We endured numerous repair appointments, with each one consuming an entire day, only to be left with the same problem (or worse), plus damages and a huge mess. With each appointment, we spent a considerable amount of time preparing for, moving furniture ahead of time, waiting for installers, and cleaning up after each one. We ended up making concessions and settling for less than what we were promised each time, just to have this over with. And even then, although it has been a full 6 months and the repairs are still incomplete.

We have used other Empire locations in the past with good results but apparently this location has lower standards and does not stand up to their advertising. So I contacted Empire about doing some work at my new house - carpet, wood and vinyl flooring. Now first I did not know that they would not sell me flooring alone, so after meeting with this guy that did not speak great English I decided that I could use them to just handle the carpet part of my job. As the back door of the SUV opened I was already confused on what was going on. Now some might think this was normal dealing with flooring, but seeing that I have almost 10 yrs in the flooring Installation industry something didn't smell right. The carpet samples looked nice the first one he pulled out I was almost sold on the look and feel right on the spot. After looking at two of the samples he showed me the price it was $5.82 per SF but without me even saying anything he knocked a whole dollar off the price. So I brought the samples in the house so I see how they looked with the paint colors.

After requesting that he just give me a bid on the carpet and setting something up so my wife could see the styles and colors with me he went to work. 1st thing I didn't like was the fact I had my 4 year old son with me and he knows to keep your hands and things of the wall that I just had painted at the cost of $4000.00. Ms Empire man didn't seem to get the training. Leaning the flooring samples against the wall was good practice in his line of work. 2nd after knocking carpet samples into door casing, he didn't seem to navigate the kitchen well tripping over the plumbing sticking out of the wall in the kitchen. Keep in mind that there are no cabinets and the house is being remodeled 3rd. Finally after a few mins of what turned out to be either a 3rd grade mathematics session or down right trickery, he revealed his pricing for my carpet. $949 SF at $3.75 per SF installed.

Now keep in mind that this is a pretty good deal as far as a bid goes, BUT let's not forget about my flooring history... The three bedrooms of carpet is not $950 SF it's really $720 SF that changes the quote quite a bit price wise. Now I will admit that at first I didn't catch the error he had made. I did call him on the phone about an hour later after I confirmed that he was wrong in his measurements and when I got him on the phone and explained my finding, he all of the sudden could not hear or understand me and he would call me back when he wasn't driving anymore. Well I guess he is still on the road because I haven't heard back. ANYONE THAT IS IN THE BUSINESS OF SELL FLOORING SHOULD BE ABLE TO MEASURE THE FIRST DAY OF THE JOB. I AM GOING TO WRITE THIS OFF AS A MISTAKE AND NO WHAT I REALLY THINK IS A DISHONEST ATTEMPT TO MAKE MONEY..... AREA = LENGTH X WIDTH, PAUL OR WHATEVER YOUR NAME WAS.

When I contacted the company representative, he totally 'played me off' which forced me to contact corporate before the 3-day contract cancellation clause kicked in. After another several days, corporate finally agreed to the $1500 reduction. I did finally receive help from one of their CSR named Judy who was great and this was the only reason that this nightmare was finally completed... Empire did not even give us a post installation consultation to confirm that the job was complete and billed us anyway. Empire's communication to their customers needs great improvement and they should stand behind what they advertise. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

An Empire representative came to our home. He was very nice. He quoted us a price of 2400.00 to carpet our basement. He said that if we agreed to go with them right then, we would get 20% off. My husband kept telling him we were getting other estimates and we would not commit at that time. The salesman said his final offer would be 1700.00. Big jump right? Well after getting other estimates the salesperson from Empire said our square footage was almost 700 feet however the other estimated indicated it was only 5 hundred and something square feet. No wonder he was able to drop the price because he added more square footage. BEWARE OF EMPIRE!!!!! Make sure you get more than one estimate. I'm glad we didn't commit to them.

On April 22, 2014 Kurt ** came to my home to speak with us regarding having wood floors and porcelain tiles installed in our house. I told him that I did not want anything but porcelain so please do not show me anything else. We chose Oak flooring and what I thought was porcelain tiles. He then asked me how much I want to spend. I said not over $5000, so how did you conveniently come up with a $5000 amount for the floors. I should have known when that question was asked because any other company would have told you the prices immediately. Scam.

The tiles we choose was ceramic - thinking that they were porcelain tiles, the salesman did not say a word and packed up and left knowing that what we chose was ceramic. The guys arrived at our home on April 29, 2014 and installed the Oak flooring. Then the next week the guys arrived to install the porcelain tiles. They proceeded to tear up the ceramic tiles that were on the floor. After all the tiles were up, they were preparing to install the tile when I noticed how thin the tile was, and I asked the question: Is that Porcelain? The worker said yes, but it didn't look like porcelain so I walked over to the box and looked for myself and the box said Ceramic. I then asked them to leave and not install ceramic on my floors because I specifically asked for porcelain. I cannot tell you how much I stressed porcelain floors to the salesman.

I called Empire and told them what happened. The salesman Kurt ** then called me and said "I have shown you all that we offer, so I suggest you find someone else to install your floors." Empire was shocked to hear that Kurt told a customer to find someone else to do the job. Empire then sent a different salesman to my home and he showed us nothing but porcelain and we chose one. On May 7, 2014 Empire sent another crew out to install the porcelain. The crew arrived and had the same ceramic tile as before, because Empire did not enter the correct porcelain tiles in their computer system. So this crew left to go to the warehouse to pick up the right porcelain tiles. They came back and started the job.

I took pictures every step of the way because Empire has already shown me signs of being deceitful and not trustworthy - when the salesman did not say a word when he knew the tile we chose was ceramic knowing good and well we wanted porcelain. The tile men did not install the Ditra system and that is the only reason I chose to let Empire install my tile floors because I was told they only used the Ditra system. I asked the installer why he is not using the Ditra system and he said that it would make the floors too high. It probably would have made the floors too high because they only removed the tiles and not the cement that was installed with the last tile floors. If they had removed everything and started from scratch, and done the floors the correct way, the floors would have been the same. I asked the salesman about leveling the floors before the work began and he assured me they would not install floors unless the floors were even.

The floors are uneven in various spots - some tiles are higher than others and they call themselves professionals. It looks like a job I could have done myself. Empire does not follow through to make sure everything was done correctly and the customer is satisfied. The guys who done the wood flooring completed all except on Two sides of the house where you step down in the living room and kitchen because they could not complete it until the tile guys finished the tiles.

But again, there is no communication with this company - no one knows anything. Empire assumes the work is complete when they send the workers to your home. WEEKS WENT BY AND NO CONTACT FROM EMPIRE REGARDING THE COMPLETION OF MY JOB. IF I WOULD HAVE NEVER CALLED TO ASK WHEN ARE YOU ALL RETURNING TO FINISH MY JOB, IT WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN FINISHED. Because what I was told when I called was, "I thought your job was completed because in our system, it says your job has been completed." I feel like I am paying you for a service so I should not have to call you to complete my job.

Empire should have been calling me to finish my job. When you call on the telephone, no one knows anything. They say let me try to find out. I asked these questions: How much does the wood cost? How much does the Ditra cost? How much does the labor cost? How did you arrive at the price you are charging me? I need to know all these questions, so I can do my own calculations to ensure I am not being cheated or ripped off. Oh forgive me, two people attempted to answer. One person said they charged me $185 per box everything included. Still how did you arrive at that price because another person said $175 per box everything included, so which one is it?

Every time you call, you speak to a different person and receive a different answer. I even asked are you all on the same page? I do not trust Empire because they have been beating around the bush too much and they don’t have any answers and they always passing the buck to the next person. If I go to Home Depot or Lowe’s, they have a price for everything with no hesitation. They provide you with the wood price per sq ft, the Ditra per sq ft, the labor price, everything. You don't have to question their prices or worry about did they make them up because I do not know a company who doesn't have prices. How do I really know if this is a $6,000 job? I know damn well my tile job is not even worth $400, which should be free; someone from Empire should come out and inspect the work.

I thought Empire was actually completing the work; I did not know you were contracting out? Do you know who you are contracting out too? Do you have references from these contractors? Have you seen their work? Do you know if they actually do quality work? Because someone needs to look at my tile - it is terrible. And to top it all off, you would think Empire would have offered a discount for all of the unprofessionalism, being incompetent, and unfinished work they have done. It is called customer service. I think the salesman don’t care because they are out for their commission money. This job started in April and it is now June and the job is still not complete. This is unacceptable. Also, you did not notify billing that the job was not completed, and I received a bill in the mail. How are you going to bill for uncompleted work? I am seriously considering contacting my Attorney after reading all the reviews on your page about Empire and how they rip off people.

I had dealt with Empire once before about 6 years ago, with results I can remember being good. Called for a quote of carpet for 2 rooms, trying to ready the house for sale. The salesperson took measurements and gave a quote. The day before Empire was to arrive for their estimate, I passed a carpet store, that is on Angie's List. I asked if their prices were competitive with the Empires and Big Box stores. They said they have been in business for 25 years. They showed me carpet compatible to what we have, and saw their installed price listed above the display.

Getting back, the salesperson took the measure, and said the price was $2500 for 500 sq. ft. The carpet at the small store was $3.10 installed. I said their price was too high, and offered to call their sales mgr. I do not remember doing this 6 years, so I may have been a sucker and paid full or almost full price. She called the mgr. and they talked for 5-7 minutes, just like buying a car, haggling over price. She kept saying I was ready to buy (just like a car) and they would lower the price, to about what the small reputable store was quoting.

I said I needed to consult my spouse and get another quote. The salesperson then said, that if she doesn't write up the contract right then, she can't guarantee the price. I said, "That is okay, I will wait a day and you can come back tomorrow or two days later." She said she is very busy, and if she doesn't do it "right now", then she said she may not come back. I hate buying a car, and now always use a buying service though AAA, Costco, or USAA. I know Costco sell no-haggle carpet, but it's always top-end.

My husband and I have been shopping for laminate flooring for months. We originally wanted bamboo but found that it was going to cost over $12k. Our appt with the Empire Today rep was to be between 1-3pm. The company called and said he'd be there at 2:40. At 3pm I called them back to make sure he wasn't lost (we live in a rural area) and was assured he'd be there in 5 minutes. He pulled in at 3:35.

Two hours later the rep had only taken measurements of our house - nothing more. The rest of the time was spent talking with us or him out in his car talking on his cell phone. Then he gave us the bomb: for the 1,524 sq ft measurement the regular price would be over $22,000! But his sales manager was going to give us a discount that would drop that price to a little over $17,000. WHAT!?!? Who in their right mind would pay that for laminate for only 1,500 sq ft? I didn't even want to pay $12k for bamboo! And this guy was trying to get me to pay more for his laminate! He told us that that price included the padding and the small amount of vinyl we wanted to put in our guest bathroom but not the subfloor that had to be replaced in the house. (For that price, the subfloor should have been included.)

We asked about the carpeting in the two bedrooms we had requested and he completely forget about the carpeting and said he'd have to reconfigure the price (it would bring the price down). We asked what thickness the laminate was. He said it was probably 3/4" thick. We asked what millimeter? He couldn't answer the question. We asked about the thickness of the padding. He couldn't answer that question either. It seemed he had to call his sales manager for every answer. So I advised him to tell his sales manager to envision HIM going out with HIS wife looking for flooring and receiving a quote for $17k for only 1,500 sq ft and ask him what HIS response to that would be and then come back with a more realistic figure for us because they just insulted us.

When our sales rep returned the price dropped to: $7,800 for laminate (including padding - the best padding they had but it was only 1/8" thick), $1,500 for carpeting (including padding - our choice of ANY carpeting from expensive to cheap), and $300 for vinyl. We still had to pay extra for the subfloor because we didn't know how much was damaged and would need to be replaced.

At this point, he is only offering us ONE type of laminate (the 8mm thickness; they have nothing thicker and nothing thinner). We really want 10mm thickness with as thick a pad as possible underneath because we're laying the flooring in a modular home and it gets cold during winter. But they don't sell 10mm laminate. And they don't offer different thicknesses in padding. However, we CAN choose whatever color we want... as long as it's one of 8 colors. We get a choice of 10 vinyls. And the best variety was in the carpets.

Needless to say, we thanked him and said goodbye... FOUR AND A HALF HOURS LATER! I'm so disappointed. I really thought I'd be placing an order today. We have samples from Home Depot and Lumber Liquidators and the price quotes I have from both of them blew Empire Today right out of the water. And I remember walking out of Home Depot thinking their prices were high. Boy was I wrong!!!!

I purchased a "top of the line" Berber carpet from Empire in February 2013 for my den. I had a Berber in that room for 9 or 10 years from a local vendor and it held up wonderfully considering my children were little and I have always owned Labrador retrievers. Within approximately 4 months after the Empire carpet was installed there were several areas that were matted down and showed dirt. The room is not located near outside doors and not a high traffic area. I filed a complaint with customer service and emailed pictures. After review the photos, the rep felt that the dirty areas were due to dirt rising to the top. Since I own a dog that sheds constantly I am a fanatic on vacuuming every other day so I disagree with her.

Again since there was a Berber in that room previously and owned a dog at that time, I felt it was due to the quality of the carpet that it didn't even last a year. My choice was to pay extra to upgrade my selection; however, I thought I bought the highest quality carpet or receive a voucher to have my carpet cleaned. I chose to have the carpet cleaned. It looked ok for a month and I am in the same boat. I cringe every time I look at the carpet. SAVE YOUR $$$. Don't buy anything from Empire.

Then I joyfully went to Lowe's, viewed a couple million samples, and found a carpet ten times better than Empire's, with a 20-year warranty (Empire's warranty's are garbage). And guess what I paid Lowe's for all this magnificent stuff? $3000! Hope this helps someone. Oh, and one last thing... We had laminate flooring put in our living room, the worst job you ever seen. Took a month to get the job done and still to this day it's not complete. The whole floor was put in backwards by admission of the manager, they busted a custom made door to my closet and the floor has waves and was scratched by the employees. I called the headquarters multiple times and what I got is a $250.00 refund on a job that cost over $2000.00.

I would NOT recommend Empire Today to anyone who wants a professional job done. The worker who originally put the floor in spent more time talking on his cell phone about how bad his boss and his company was that I was concerned immediately and when he started the floor he didn't have enough product to finish the floor (transitions). Every worker that came in after the floor was put in, their immediate reaction was to shake their heads and asked who did such an awful job.

I understand they are contractors and not always honest but Empire should stand behind their customers in these situations and not a dishonest and greedy contractor, especially when another contractor stated wrong pad for this type of floor. We ordered from home and Empire was there the next day. They were courteous, hardworking and got the job done before dark that night. This was a good size house and they put down 1,500 s/ft carpet and two stairways. They were so good that we ordered replacement tile for our kitchen, bar and three baths. This brought some problems in that the installer they sent out told us the job was too hard and he didn't want to do it and he left. My wife and I had both taken off work and we were stunned. It took three days for Empire to send out a different installer who determined that portions of the underplaying floor needed replacement and other problems that were not covered in the estimate.

Long story short, after a bunch of phone calls Empire manned-up and told the installer to do the job right and they (Empire) would absorb the extra costs, whatever they were. Although it was aggravating, at least Empire worked with us to get it right and then absorbed the price of the extra work that had not been quoted to us. For these reasons, as well as the fine quality and competitive prices of their products, I would use Empire again without hesitation and I am happy that I took the time to write this on their behalf.

He told us about a deal he would give us (50%), and then what the payment plans would be. I asked if I could get a copy of the pricing, and he immediately put his clipboard to his chest and said no. So I said okay.. I will write it down. He didn't like that.

I told him, along with my dad, that we would have to think about it first and we would like to call him back. His entire demeanor changed from professional, to angry. He was very defensive and aggressive and said, "What is there to think about?" I explained very nicely, it is my dad's decision and he would like to either pay it all off if he has the finances to do so, or do a payment plan. Clearly, he would like to pay it all off if possible.

And he was still very aggressive about the pricing, saying that if we were to call him back another day he would be wasting his time at our home when he could be making a sale elsewhere. I understand needing to make money, but there is a way to do it, and being unprofessional and rude is never that. I've seen other reviews where people have only had the rep come by, and have had similar experiences where they were incredibly aggressive and rude if you did not make the decision to use their company THAT DAY. Needless to say, I am glad I experienced this so that we did not end up using their company because even the reviews on their installations are not good.

Do not bother getting an estimation, because they will try to pressure you and give you all types of guilt if you do not use them. That's ridiculous. At the end of the day, I am the customer whether I use you or not. It is about what I want, not what you want. You need to be respectful of my decisions, even if it is not what you want to hear. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I felt the need to write a review, which I never do. But I don't want anyone to experience the lack of professionalism that we did, or experience such rudeness that is totally uncalled for. Seriously, don't waste your time. That aside, I have requested the edges be re-attached in front of the fireplace and some carpet was not installed correctly on a corner; several ragged edges were visible and the metal plate to the kitchen immediately started to come loose. We hardly wear shoes on our new carpet yet it is already showing foot paths. (The carpet advertised on TV is not actually what they want you to buy either. The sales lady had 4-6 patches of the advertised special and about 30 or 40 samples of one type in different colors.) She didn't offer an estimate on the "better" carpet either.

Now I have these issues and have been trying to get satisfaction. After 3 missed appointments out of 5 for inspection and repair, they sent someone after I wrote to the BBB, yet I am still experiencing issues with the metal plate they supposedly fixed. It's coming loose again. However, they have not responded to my phone call. I would not recommend anyone use this company or their products!

I have thought much about this and wanted to be sure of not in the moment reaction. 10 Feb. 2014, we had Empire Basement Floor installed. Owner made it VERY clear to the Salesman Doug and the earlier salesman that visited home and met with owners that the basement floor had a well-engineered drain, and it should remain ACCESSIBLE even after the floor installation. The salesman agreed, if owner would close drain with a cap, then they would agree to make it accessible as they prepared and leveled the floor. The owner complied and many ways of leveling were discussed.

On installation day, Owner entered home at noon to find the local installer for Empire had poured Concrete material (Sakrete) around and over the drain, making the drain inoperable forever. ** protested immediately about the complete drain closure and the fact the floor is still quite unlevel; and the installer said he could get jackhammer and try to remove. After repeated calls to Empire customer service personnel, a Tim ** only offered to come to pour more concrete material in hopes to try to level floor. ** said, no and requested other means to recover damages. ** said, home has never flooded by natural cause, thus he saw no problem. The owner was very CLEAR about the drain accessibility and the company and installer seemed to disregard the request and the complaint. Obviously, some confusion in the organization’s communication from owner, to office, to their local installer. We now have inoperable drain, which was a great feature of the home if needed, and also an uneven floor.

I had one of the worst experience with this company called Empire Today. After taking the measurements, they showed up on Saturday (Easter weekend) 04/19/14 to do the installation. As soon as they got to my house, they asked for their money and I gave them their money then they started the installation. 3 hours later, one of them called me to let me know that they did not bring enough carpet and I would have to wait until Monday so they can come back to finish the installation. Guest what! Today is Tuesday the 22nd and I am still waiting on them to come and finish that mess they started at my house. Also, since that Saturday, I have been waiting on Maggie, the manager, to call me with some type of apology or something... She has not called yet (that's 4 days later).
