I have thought much about this and wanted to be sure of not in the moment reaction. 10 Feb. 2014, we had Empire Basement Floor installed. Owner made it VERY clear to the Salesman Doug and the earlier salesman that visited home and met with owners that the basement floor had a well-engineered drain, and it should remain ACCESSIBLE even after the floor installation. The salesman agreed, if owner would close drain with a cap, then they would agree to make it accessible as they prepared and leveled the floor. The owner complied and many ways of leveling were discussed.

On installation day, Owner entered home at noon to find the local installer for Empire had poured Concrete material (Sakrete) around and over the drain, making the drain inoperable forever. ** protested immediately about the complete drain closure and the fact the floor is still quite unlevel; and the installer said he could get jackhammer and try to remove. After repeated calls to Empire customer service personnel, a Tim ** only offered to come to pour more concrete material in hopes to try to level floor. ** said, no and requested other means to recover damages. ** said, home has never flooded by natural cause, thus he saw no problem. The owner was very CLEAR about the drain accessibility and the company and installer seemed to disregard the request and the complaint. Obviously, some confusion in the organization’s communication from owner, to office, to their local installer. We now have inoperable drain, which was a great feature of the home if needed, and also an uneven floor.

I had one of the worst experience with this company called Empire Today. After taking the measurements, they showed up on Saturday (Easter weekend) 04/19/14 to do the installation. As soon as they got to my house, they asked for their money and I gave them their money then they started the installation. 3 hours later, one of them called me to let me know that they did not bring enough carpet and I would have to wait until Monday so they can come back to finish the installation. Guest what! Today is Tuesday the 22nd and I am still waiting on them to come and finish that mess they started at my house. Also, since that Saturday, I have been waiting on Maggie, the manager, to call me with some type of apology or something... She has not called yet (that's 4 days later).

I had been shopping for hardwood flooring to replace my living room and hallway and couldn't find anything that I really loved, so I set up a consultation with Empire Today. The salesman was very friendly and I fell in love with the first hardwood floor that he showed me. The price for 215 sq ft of flooring was $2,350, which seemed fairly high, but I had been shopping for quite a while and I was just excited to get it installed. The salesman told me it would probably only take 1/2 day for the amount of square footage I had so I set up the install for Saturday. The day of the install, the installer didn't show up until 11 am and when he left at 8 pm he had only installed 10 rows of flooring and asked what time he could come back the next day.

After he left, I inspected what he had installed and there were several cracks in the wood were he had nailed, deep gouges in a few pieces and plenty of dents and chips. I called him right away and he said that I was looking at an unfinished floor and that after he puttied and the floor was finished it would look much better. The next day, (which I wasn't planning on spending having flooring installed) I spoke with him again concerning my unhappiness with the floor. He said that he was having several issues due to the type of product that I had chosen. I told him if the salesman had been forthright about the product he was selling and mentioned that this product had these types of issues, I would have chosen a different product or gone with another company.

Long story short, after the floor was almost finished being installed (it has never been completed) I found myself extremely unhappy with it and called the General Manager. She sent a representative out to inspect my floor who took pictures and asked me if I was open to another product. I told her yes. I have been waiting for almost two weeks to hear what my options are concerning my flooring and they have still not communicated with me. I am upset and hope I hear something soon so I can get on with my other home improvement projects that have had to be postponed until this issue is resolved.

I just moved into my own house (needed updating). Could not find honest contractor so decided to use what I thought were professionals until about 1yr later the trim and what they call the shoes fell off. Called empire. They said it would cost me more money for them the repair what they should have done in first place. I will have to hire handy man to fix. I feel I already paid too much to empire to pay them any more. Beware their work is not worth the cost.

I have took off of work to have my carpet steps and hallway done today with new carpet so after they show up they would not start until we pay in full first and sign a form that said we were happy with the job and it was complete. That was even before they even started. They started and after couple of hours they tell me they don't have enough carpet so they won't finish because the sales guy didn't measure right. So they left 3 steps not done and did not clean up behind self or the seams they put together to the other carpet looks like crap.

I call the company and got a nasty attitude from a supervisor who transfer me to the local branch who all I got was a voice mail. No call back yet. I will never use this company again or recommend them to no one. Save your money and go to Lowe's or Home Depot as this company don't care and all they want is your money and do a crappy job. I am so piss that words can't say how I am feeling as this is the worst job I have ever seen done and the customer service sucks, the worst I seen. Stay away from this company.

After installation was completed which took all day fawn showed a violet undertone. My floors squeak excessively since the installation. To remove it and make it right for the consumer you are penalized with an installation fee. I now have to incur expenses to work with this carpet. I hate it!

I contracted with Enterprise to carpet the master bedroom and dual closets, lower level rec room, den and closet - over $7000. First issue, check written for deposit was processed as electronic transaction on Saturday after salesman assured me the check would go to the bank the next week after I inquired. I wanted to be certain funds were available. Second, carpet was delivered in an open van with the almost white carpet protruding from the rear of the van for the trip around the beltway on wet road ways.

Arrived at 11 a.m. Time window was 9 to 11. Proceeded to unroll the carpet on the driveway to cut it. The drive was still covered in and salt from winter. Of course when they rolled it up to bring it indoors the sand and salt were rolled onto the top of the carpet. When moving the sofa on the lower level, they left a scrape of 4 feet down a wall. Bad seams in this room. 3 HOLES left in master bedroom walls. These walls were done in a custom faux finish. Denied they did it. Finished the job at 9 p.m. Calls to service for damage to home netted me an appointment that was not kept. After hours of waiting and numerous calls to the Service Dept, I was connected directly with an INSTALLER that said he had been called that day to come out. Said he will as not sure why because he installs carpet and has no clue what to do about holes in the wall.

To finalize the trauma I got an estimate for the same carpet and could have saved $2000 if I had shopped around and waited for the installation. I am not certain that the product I purchased is what they installed. Quality???? Moral - get other estimates and use a charge card that will allow you some recourse.

Before I could get a home estimate, waited two hours for the sales person to show up at my house. After two hours I call customer service. They tell me to reschedule the following and the manager offers me $50 toward my service. Not caring the two hours I waited for the sales person to show up. The manager tells me the sales person called and cancel and they failed to informed me for an hour and half. Why would I ever continue to do business with a company who are not reliable the first time around? 1st impression lasts for ever. I will never deal with this company ever again. I wrote regarding a blind I had installed and the issues behind it, Dec. 2013. Fast forward 4 months later, the blind arrived Jan but was broken (would not roll up) so they took it. I asked that I do not get a refurbished blind but a new one and considering I received it 5 weeks later, I thought it was new. Well certainly not! The blind was installed when I was out of the country and about 3 months later, it still wasn't working. So I called March 22nd to ask it be checked and they came and took it again.

Today, 3 weeks later I have tried to call twice to find out about the blind and was told by the same Cathy rep that she was out sick for over a week. That still leaves over a week where anyone could have followed up with me. This company obviously spends most of its budget on marketing and advertising and very little if any at all on customer satisfaction and quality training purposes. I have paid damn near $3000 for ONE blind and couldn't get the courtesy of one that works with no headaches or a follow-up as to what's going on with it. Mind you each time I have had to have my pregnant sister drive 2 hours to let them in as I work out of the country, and as one reviewer said about warranty - if I let it expire, it would be on me. As the youngens say SMMFH@U Empire!!!

The same week I received my blind in Dec. I had my next door neighbor over for dinner and she almost immediately ordered 9 of the same exact blinds from a design store in Livingston, NJ upon my recommendation! Till this day not only are ALL of her HD Silhouette blinds still working, they are on her window and NOT in some warehouse somewhere obviously being ignored!!! But with that said, I also know it isn't a Hunter Douglas issue! ALL READERS PLS BEWARE!!! Another thing to note that all the reviews say "resolution in progress" but that's actually not true in my case, and I am sure in many others!!! But in the cases where they just might be why do customers have to get resolutions ONLY AFTER it has come to this point of aggravation?

I must say that the service was outstanding and that the Michelle was great at arranging the conditions that semi-assuaged my issues. The vinyl was the thickness that Empire offers and I could not upgrade even if I wanted to. Empire carpeted all my rooms and put linoleum in my bathroom, too. Nobody can touch the price. However, you get what you paid for. If you are looking for upscale material, go someplace else. Their installers are second to none, but they can only work with what they have. I consider this issue resolved and have learned my lesson. Empire is a good company and very affordable. We're done here.

Great marketing. Devious sales person. All salespersons lie, this one was king. Lifetime warranty against product defects. Whose life? 12 months "free" service calls. Minimum $95 after that for evaluation/repair. Installation required cash up front from people who don't speak English. Linoleum is the worst ever. Not my first. The worst. Cracking, tearing, breaking, etc. Only my printer paper is thinner. They disgust me. Oh, and I didn't pick them. My wife got caught up the daily advertisements, and never asked me. They are shysters.

I signed a contract with Empire today to have hardwood flooring installed on 3/8/2014. I was told by the sales representative that the project would take two days to be completed. The project was scheduled to start on 3/24/2014. This should have given the company ample time to order the materials that were needed to complete the project. On 3/24/2014, I received a call from the installer advising me that he would arrive by 12:30. I asked if he would have enough time to completed the project by the next day. I was informed that it would take three to four days. I had only scheduled two days off from work based on the conversation with the Sales Rep. After much juggling, I was able to take off the additional two days that were needed.

On 3/27/2014 I received a call from Empire informing me that they would not be able to complete the project as scheduled because they did not have the transition moldings that were needed to complete the project. I was assured that it would arrive that night at their warehouse and they would come out the next day to complete the project. I now had to take off another unscheduled day from work because they failed to order the correct materials. On 3/28/2014 again I received another call from Empire with the same excuse I received the day before that they did not have the transition moldings that were needed to complete the project. So after placing my order twenty days before they still did not have the proper materials needed to complete the project. I contact the corporate office and spoke with the Resolution Specialist for the area who informed me that she would work with the local office to get this resolved. I also contacted the Manager for the Orlando area who informed me that he was unaware of the matter and would look into it and call me back with a resolution.

The Manager called me back as well as the Resolution Specialist and they both assured me that they have order the materials and it would arrive in the morning and the installation would be completed the following day. On 3/29/2014 the installers arrived at my house and began installing the flooring. Upon examination I noticed that there was a big gap between the flooring and the transition molding that was being installed on the steps, with little children in the home this posed as an extreme safety hazard. The molding is supposed to be flushed with the flooring. I immediately ask them to stop installing because they were not installing the correct material. At this point the job is not complete and I have heard several broken promises that they would order the correct material. I cannot continue taking days off from work to wait for Empire to order the correct material that needs to be installed, nor have I received an update as to when this project will get completed.

    3/8/2014 - Placed order
    3/24/2014 - Project commenced
    3/25/2014 - Project continued
    3/26/2014 - Project continued
3/27/2014 - Received a call that due to lack of materials they cannot complete the job
3/28/2014 - Received a call that due to lack of materials they cannot complete the job

3/29/2014 - Installer arrived and began installing wrong material. Job stopped and remains incomplete

As of 4/3/2014 the job remains incomplete. We have been walking on the dusty sub-floor for the past nine days, to date they still have not received the materials to complete the project. Flooring is your business, how can you not have the materials to complete the jobs that they were paid for. This is worst experience I have had with remodeling a home. I will NEVER use this company again, and neither should you.

I had a very very bad experience with empire though it has been several yrs ago. I wish this review site was up back when I made my purchase. I am writing today because I thought I would throw my experiences out there too. I almost called to get the ceramic tile wood finish. I did call actually but decided to not go with an appointment. For one it is not 50% off or their products are way overpriced. Home depot will be doing my work and they are local. I want the ceramic tiles that look like wood. So for something that is not easily replaceable then it's best to pay top dollar.

In the past I had my carpet replaced with Ferber. It was not real. Looked very nice. But they forgot a closet and cut a square to do a patch job on it. They gossiped to my neighbors because one of the workers know them about how poorly my closet was packed with junk. They broke my living room ceiling light from hammering too hard upstairs and they broke the glass out of my entertainment center. Only gave me 100.00 for damages. Couldn't find a light so had to buy a ceiling fan. And couldn't afford an entertainment center so I had to buy a cheap walmart brand that ended up costing me about 500.00.

They did a very tacky job on my stairway and never came out to repair. We just gave up. They had cut it too short. We used a staple gun and it's being held together with that. Thank goodness that I did not let them come out for an estimate on my ceramic floors I want now. I will pay the 3k and have home depot do the job and get 1/2 the home done. Thanks for all of your reviews to remind me that these people are criminal. They do steal your money and need to be out of business. Hope this happens someday. Oh yeah we are forced to put one star. They don't deserve that.

UNDERSTANDING HOW EMPIRE PLAYS THE GAME, TAKES YOUR MONEY AND IGNORES YOU. The sales department takes your money. The customer service department passes the buck, and you are left holding the bag. After researching laminated flooring, on October 2013 we contacted EMPIRE. The sales person was very knowledgeable and helpful. We reached an agreement and entered into a contract that we paid 50% down, balance upon completion. All carpet, padding, baseboards, nails, etc. had been removed and disposed of prior to their arrival. The entire work area as well as the access had been swept and mopped. On the date of the installation, the crew arrived on time and went to work. The process was very professional from start to finish. We paid the balance and we were more than pleased at the time.

NOW THE PROBLEMS BEGIN. We encountered a minor problem, where one of the threshold pieces was lifting from one end. While this is a minor fix, I decided to follow through with the “WARRANTY” and contacted EMPIRE, in an effort to have someone come out and re attach the piece. We called the customer service as required and scheduled an appointment for the repair. NO ONE SHOWED UP. NO ONE CALLED, even after we contacted customer service later that afternoon. We again re-scheduled a repair for the following week. AGAIN, NO ONE SHOWED UP. NO ONE CALLED. That evening we called and spoke with a “customer service representative and a supervisor (Joel). He was going to contact the crew and have someone call us back or he would call me back and set up an appointment for a third time. AGAIN, NO ONE SHOWED UP. NO ONE CALLED, NOT EVEN THE SUPERVISOR.

I am now upset and more than disappointed. I again called the customer service line. Spoke with another Supervisor named Joe. NOW I BEGIN TO SEE AND UNDERSTAND HOW EMPIRE PLAYS THE GAME. The sales department takes your money. The customer service department passes the buck, and you are left holding the bag. After today, three weeks later, the threshold has not been repaired, the manager has made notes to be sent to the installation/repair for review and I am not happy about the procedure, or the time frame that has taken to avoid a minor repair that has brought this on.

It was a disaster from the get go. From confirming the appointment and then not showing up, to sending out an unqualified crew, to total lack of respect for the rest of house. It took at least 4 days to complete the job, (if that's what you call it). From not bringing the flooring into the house to get acclimated to the temperature, to using a thick dark black crayon mark that will not come off all along the base of the wall for their measurements, a crew member wearing his jeans down to his knees, another crew member repeatedly setting his cold wet drink on our new wood furniture after being asked not to. We had to take pictures and a movie of the terrible workmanship on our stairs to the Manager before they would fix it.

We have a brand new kitchen and they destroyed the kickplate around the cabinets. (They ultimately fixed this, but not without hesitation and we had to buy all the replacement material ourselves). A couple of weeks later, I was on my hands and knees cleaning with a fine white cloth, and noticed a quarter sized dent in the kitchen, and some warping in the living room. My husband and are just sick about this..... $7000 later, and feel there is no one to turn to, unless we take legal action. We did put in a request for them to come back out to take a look at it, but if the same crew is sent out, they will most likely treat us as if we are high maintenance pains in their backside. Again, we are just sick about this.

We purchased a house last November and needed to replace the carpet. Empire has such a catchy tune my wife remembered the number so we called. A salesman came out measured and brought 3 samples with him? Really nice guy but not as knowledgeable as he should have been. We went through the whole deal and decided to go for it. I saw the price was a bit higher than I intended to pay but needed it done asap so we could move into our home. So anyway we do the financing deal and were told installers would arrive the next day. Well they never did. And about noon I decided to call and see what was going on. I called the install number and was abruptly told, "we are not installing till we get paid." I questioned this as it was being financed. After several more calls and transfers a guy said he was a supervisor and apologized and it was a done deal and the carpet would be installed the next day. I was heading out of town for a week for work and was hoping to have this done before I left. Well it didn't. Once again they had no idea what was going on.

I had to wait for my paperwork to be emailed and electronically signed then they said it would be 3 days before they could schedule the install because I needed to make sure I wanted to do it. Needless to say the next week when I was out of town they finally came and installed my carpet. It is of ok quality. It definitely will not last the 20 yrs promised. And the pad I do not believe was what I ordered. The sample pieces felt a whole lot thicker. So then comes the big kicker. My payment was supposed to be for 2 to 3 yrs with the 1st year same as cash. Not so much. I am now paying for 61 months 5 yrs and 6 months same as cash. I received a phone call well several from financing with different congratulations on your financing for 1 yr same as cash blah blah blah. The reality of it is THEY SUCK. Terrible organization. Too many promises made that were not true. Now I just hope nothing goes wrong so I do not have to deal with any type of warranty issue. As previous reviews have stated that too will be a nightmare. Overall I would NOT recommend this company and nor will I ever do business with them again. Now if I can just get my loan paid off asap I will be a lot happier.

But, I believe there should have been at least two fully skilled floor layers working on my floors rather than one with a trainee on site. With my own know how, I adhered the areas in need on the cove base with calk using some added pressure to reinforce the cove base. That seemed to do the trick and I thought this would be the end of my flooring issues but I was mistaken. Four days after the floor had been installed we were moving the new couch into the house when the flooring ripped an eight inches in diameter hole over a "soft" spot.. The couch legs had pads on the bottom and there were no sharp edges that would have indicated that the legs of the couch would have caused this tear. Again, I was forced to use calk to glue the torn vinyl back down. I set a shelf board in top of the repair and placed the couch on top of the shelf to add weight.

Since my sister (still in a fragile state of mind) was being discharged from the hospital the following day, my options were limited. RESOLUTION: I did call "Empire Today" to complain and they said they would be happy to come out and repair the damage. I still had several concerns however: One: Patching a brand new floor (it was patched; I patched it . . pretty well too). Two: The quality of the flooring and/or the workmanship! Would a new tear in a different area be likely in the near future? Three: With my sister's psychological issues there ARE and will continue to be limits to having workmen in the house while she's present.

THE RESOLUTION: I addressed these concerns with Empire Today's customer service Representative Christina and a negotiation of a 10% refund along with EMPIRE's one year warranty of the floor being repaired was the deciding resolution. Although, I'm disappointed that there were issues with our vinyl flooring and with the installation, I'm impressed with Empire Flooring's Customer Service for their prompt response and willingness to make right my less than satisfactory experience.

Needing new carpet installed to get my house ready for sale, I called Empire Today. They were running a special of install one room get two rooms free. My total rooms were 4. When the salesman arrived he brought in several samples, measured the rooms and then gave me total price. Not once did he give me the cost of the carpet or the cost of installation. His estimate for an alleged 1200 sq. feet was on average of the 3 samples he gave me around $9500. After saying no way, he offered me carpet at 89 cents a sq. foot with total cost of $6700. Now I did that math. 1200 sq. feet at 89 cents a sq. foot is around $1,000, so he was charging me $5700 for labor. He dropped it down to $5700 total and I said so now labor is $4,700?

Remember, 2 rooms are supposed to be free, so you can do the math. Still way too high. Later he called back and asked what I was expecting to pay and I said no more than $3,000. Magically, his boss called me that night and offered to do the job at $3,000. However, since then I had gotten another estimate from another carpet place and it was for $2,400. I told him I had an offer for $2,400 and he said he would see what he could do and call me in the morning. Instead what I got in the morning was Empire showing up wanting to install carpet. I sent them back and never did get a call back from Empire. These people are rip off artists.

It was like pulling teeth to get the price of carpet per sq. foot. The labor costs were totally unrealistic. The salesman never did tell me the exact sq. footage of the house that he measured other than to say it was around 1200. When I measured it later, I came up with about 900 sq. feet. Needless to say, I will never do business with Empire Today nor will I ever recommend them to anyone, friend or foe.

My husband and I bought a new house and were embarrassed to have people over due to the quality of the existing carpet. We had Empire Today come over to give us a quote. Since our downstairs was all hardwood, we only needed our basement (which was pink), our stairs (white) and 3 bedrooms (one of which was blue and the other one was 15 years old). We picked our frieze carpet b/c that's what my mom recommended with dogs. We got it on our stairs (high traffic) and all 3 bedrooms. The basement we got a Berber. The carpet will be 2 years in July 2014, and we just had Stanley Steemer over to clean the carpet. They were shocked when we told them the carpet was less than 2 years old and said that it was definitely the wrong carpet for high traffic areas or with pets (we have 2 dogs). The salesman we had said the carpet will never mat or crush. He also said it will last 15 years.

When I called Empire to get someone out there to see the quality of my carpet, the person who called me back said, "Well, all carpet mats and crushes." Basically the sales person sold me a dream to get the sale and I'm told something different now that I bought the carpet. The carpet is also bubbling in the master bedroom. It's also very worn looking in our bedroom where we walk to the bathroom. I wish I had gone with Home Depot or Lowe's or another company that actually cares about making things right. I can't walk into a store and talk to the manager. All I get is "Vacuum more or pay more and we'll come out to look at it." We will have to buy new carpet in the next 5 years.

This is the 2nd time I dealt with Empire. The 1st time, some years ago, Empire's representative measured my SMALL living room & tried to charge me $2798 for that small area. The 2nd time, they had a "Get One Room Carpeted & Get 2 Rooms Carpeted Free". The guy shows up with only TWO SAMPLES of carpet & BOTH samples were cheap quality. When I asked the rep if he had more carpet samples he told me "they were in his truck". (Why didn't he bring them??) Anyways, he tried to charge me $2800 for one sample and $2100 for the other sample, which was SICKENINGLY OVERPRICED considering the quality of BOTH carpet samples were of cheap quality. It was the type of carpet that if you put your foot on it, the carpet goes flat & looks matted. This is what they're trying to sell to the customers & then the rep tries to talk as if you're really getting a bargain. I wasn't surprised though, because the 1st time I dealt with them they tried to overcharge me. These people do not deliver what they promise. To top it off, the woman who called my house to confirm my appointment had an attitude & she was rushing me. Don't even waste your time calling them or wasting your money - THEY ARE NOT WORTH IT.

My husband and I decided to install new carpet and flooring throughout our home. We made an appointment with Empire after seeing a commercial on tv. Mark, our salesman arrived promptly and we had a prolonged discussion with him regarding what type of flooring we wanted installed. It was a three hour consult. We had 3 different scenarios. The first was hardwood all throughout throughout the ground floor. The stairs and upstairs hall would be carpeted as well as the 3 bedrooms. The 2 upstairs bathrooms and the laundry room would be vinyl. The 2nd was all carpet only and the 3rd was carpet with hardwood replacing the existing tile and vinyl in laundry room and two upstairs bathrooms. There was also some sort of 2 for 1 type special going on.

After measuring the home we were told the 1st option would cost 11,500. 7500 for the hardwood and 3900 for stairs and upstairs hall/bedrooms. He said they could figure in the vinyl to make it work as it was another 750.00. The 2nd option would cost 6400 for carpet replacement throughout only. No hardwood or vinyl. The last option was 9900 with carpet with hardwood replacing tile in entryway, powder room and kitchen as well as the vinyl. We decided on the first option with hardwood downstairs and carpet everywhere else. We were ready to sign the necessary documents when Mark realized he forgot the contract paperwork. We agreed to sign the following day.

My husband had written down his own notes the previous day as we were going over the 3 options, which frankly I thought was redundant but in retrospect am grateful he did. Mark arrived the next morning and while reviewing the contract Mark said the 11500 would cover carpet upstairs and downstairs with hardwood in entryway and kitchen only! I told him to get his notes from the previous day when he told us he had redrawn them when he got home so they would be neater. Well we said that was not what we signed up for and he grabbed all his things and practically ran out the door!

We were stunned at first, then mad at the HUGE error but are now grateful (but disappointed) after reading all these reviews. As today is Sunday, hubby is going to call and complain tomorrow but it sounds like it won't do any good according to other experiences I'm reading about. Although I am disappointed with the experience I AM glad it fell through as it sounds like many others here have had worse experiences with Empire.

My experience started with the salesman that came to my house. When I asked about the specials they show on tv, he said that it was really cheap carpet and I wouldn't want it. Wouldn't even bring in a sample to show me. Bought some barber carpet for my upstairs. When they came to install they were 3 hours late. Then they had to leave because they didn't have the supplies to do the job. When they got back the day was almost shot. Suppose to be a one day job. Had to take another day off work. The installers were 4 Hispanics with only one that could speak a little English.

After one year the carpet has buckled up in 4 rooms. Called customer service and they said they would send someone out to re-tighten, but it would cost $200.00. Told them no thanks, the job should have been done right the first time and I would rather pay a real professional to fix it. Hopefully people will read these real reviews, not the ones they show on their website. I surely wish I had. STAY AWAY FROM EMPIRE.

Purchased Bamboo flooring for my California desert area condo living room on May 13, 2013. 3 days later I had a water overflow which caused me to have 3/4 of the flooring done again on July 1, 2013. The installers did the moisture test in several locations which showed no moisture. The problems started to be noticed in November. Top layer was starting to splinter and buckle in the May and July installs. Installer came back out and said flooring needed to be replaced and no moisture was found. Supervisor came out and stated she just left another house that had same problem. Floor inspector came out, did moisture reading (no moisture present), took pictures and said would be in contacted by company.

Four weeks later Empire called to say it was top layer moisture build-up and was my problem. I am still a little shocked since the flooring (Home Legend Uniclic Bamboo) was glued down and the instructions that came with the flooring state "Uniclic angle is a revolutionary system for installing bamboo floors without using glue" and an underlayment must be used on concrete. $8,000 for a floor that is inferior quality.

I needed carpet in my master bedroom after a pipe burst. I called Empire because there was an ad for 60% off. I had a salesman come into my home that only showed me 4 different rugs because I did not want to finance and wanted to pay out right for the carpet. He then walked around my home and was touching everything and asked me if I had any jewelry to sell him? Then he would accept that to pay for the carpet. Then I did pick a carpet out and asked to show me the padding and he stated it was the same padding that I had under my original carpet. When the installers arrived the next day I had already taken all the carpet out of that room that was soaked. They did not replace the tack board that was saturated by water. They had me barricaded in my living room so I could not see what they were doing.

They had placed furniture in the way so I could not get to that room. The carpet sounds like it is cracking when you walk on it. (as if it is dry rotten on the back). It is no better than an indoor outdoor carpet. The padding is the lowest quality you can get. I am on a cement slab and you can't even walk barefoot on the carpet, it is so cold. I went to fix my curtains and the carpet is so thin the tack board came through the carpet at the sub-base. The pile of the carpet is coming out and it is all over my house. Some guy John keeps calling from customer service and when I call back or leave a message I never can speak to anyone there. Then he calls back and says on my answering machine "I understand your are having a problem with the install." This is not a good experience, if that carpet was 60% off it would have been almost a 1500.00 carpet for this room. No way is this a quality of that price. Also, the installers did not speak English and the only thing they got right was the color of the carpet. Will not use this company again.

Contact Empire and they sent out a rep, (they made us wait 3 months as they claimed it takes that long for the shedding to stop) who took a sample, and Empire actually agreed to replace the carpet. We were told that it must have been from a bad roll. The carpet was replaced and three months later we had to contact them again for the same problem. We actually saved the fuzz in a ziplock to show them although it was quite obvious from the carpet on the floor! Again the sent a rep, then replaced the carpet yet again. Three months later, same problem! They sent a rep yet again, collected the sample, then called back to say they would not be doing anything this time..that the manufacturer claims there was nothing wrong with their carpet! Absolutely horrible experience and we will be pursuing in small claims.

Empire carpet issue: Misrepresented product, poor installation, poor product, failure to stand behind product and installation. Manipulating data to the disadvantage of customer. Poor business practices. We purchased carpet from Empire in July of 2011. Throughout the entire purchase process we discussed Mohawk top grade carpet and examined samples of this. We were interested in excellent quality and a 15-20 year warranty. During the complaint process we discovered that a second rate brand (Phoenix) carpet was actually installed not the Mohawk which we discussed.

Empire promised us outstanding product and that they would stand behind everything. Empire's published commitment is complete support and services for the products we install. Award winning customer service before, during, and after the installation. Valued customer for life. Wow what a joke. 2.5 years later carpet shows signs of degradation, wear, crushing, and matting. Additionally, we have multiple bubbles in every room of house.

We contacted Empire to request they address these issues under our warranty. Empire sent representative Jamie to our home. During his inspection Jamie indicated this carpet looks 10 years old and whoever did your installation did a terrible job. As it turned out Jamie was a salesperson and had been assigned to our appointment incorrectly. Jamie called his boss to inquire how to handle the situation, and his boss told him not to say another word and to leave. They would send an adjuster as this was a warranty issue, not a sales issue.

On January 8, Gina (Install Manager) from Empire came to our home. Gina was surprised at the poor condition of the carpet as it was only 2 years old. Gina noted the bubbling, matting and crushing in multiple areas, and indicated she would submit a claim for replacement. Gina's report indicates home is well kept, carpet is matting and crushing. We were contacted by Karin ** approx 1 week later with a copy of Gina's report. Again, the report indicates crushing and matting of the carpet. Curiously, Gina's report completely omitted the multiple areas of bubbling throughout the house. Through our research we have found that bubbling is generally caused by poor installation, not coincidentally Gina is Empire's installation manager. Karin ** informed us that they were disputing the claim and would submit our complaint to a third party independent inspector.

On January 16th Michael ** who represented Inspect Solutions came to our home to inspect the carpet. Michael informed us that he had 30 years experience in the carpet industry. Michael spent over 1 hour in our home examining our carpet using various tools such as ultraviolet light, magnifying glass, and a grooming tool. Additionally, Michael took several pictures of the rooms in question and close ups of the carpet in order to show the poor quality. Michael indicated your home is remarkably clean and the carpet is as well. Michael also indicated there shouldn't be this much wear outside of high traffic areas and the bubbling indicates poor installation. There is no way your carpet should look this poor after only 2 years and minimal activity in the home. I'm not going to say you were ripped off but. Michael's final comments to us upon completing his inspection was your carpet is not wearing well and was not installed well. Once Empire gets my report I'm sure they will be calling you to replace the carpet.

1 week later we received a letter from Bill **, Empire's customer service manager. Bill's letter indicated our claim was being denied. A copy of Michael **'s report was included with the letter. Upon reading Michael's report we found it was fallacious, and in fact completely the opposite of what he discussed while in our home. It is clear that this company is under contract to Empire and therefore incentivized to provide reports which preclude the customer receiving any type of settlement report points below:

    1. Customer contacted Empire previously to address bubbling issues and Empire re-stretched the carpet. This is untrue and did not occur. Empire never re-stretched the carpet for us.

    2. A carpet grooming tool was employed in several areas of matting and crushing and it returned the carpet to a nearly new appearance. This is untrue. Michael used the tool (essentially a large comb) on 1 stair and commented that while this was a high traffic area the fibers were crushed and untwisting. Additionally Michael noted that almost all stairs were bubbled indicating poor installation.

    3. Inspection indicates the carpet is wearing normally. This statement is in direct opposition to the statements Michael made while in the home your carpet is not wearing well and was not installed well. Separately, the report also indicates the condition of the carpet is FAIR. Good quality carpet should not be in FAIR condition after 2 years in a low occupancy household especially in light of the 15 year warranty.

    4. While Michael took several close up photos showing bubbling, crushing and matting, these photos were not submitted with the report. Photos were submitted showing views of entire rooms, not close ups of the bubbling, crushing, and matting.

    5. Reference item #2. Report indicates a carpet grooming tool was employed in several areas of matting and crushing. Michael used the tool on 1 stair, however he submitted photos of 2 rooms which he indicated were groomed to show that there was no matting. Michael did not groom or comb two entire rooms of our home. This statement is ridiculous.

    6. Report indicates there is matting and crushing in traffic areas. Michael fails to report the matting and crushing in non-high traffic areas. Michael also fails to report bubbling in the following areas: master bedroom, top of stairs, 2nd floor hallway, unused guest room, guest room and 17 of 21 stairs.

    Summary:

    1. Empire representative Jamie indicates carpet is in poor condition, and bubbling throughout. Indicates poor installation.
    2. Empire representative Gina indicates home is well kept, carpet is crushing and matting. Gina identifies bubbling however does not include this in her report. Note that bubbling is generally caused by poor installation and Gina is the installation manager.
    3. Independent expert Michael **, works for Inspect Solutions Inc., a company under contract to Empire Carpet. Michael's report contains contradictory data and contradicts Michael's assessment while in our home.
    4. In spite of 3 separate opinions from Empire representatives that severe issues exist with the carpet after only 2 years, Empire is refusing to rectify the situation. Data is omitted where convenient, the independent expert is under contract to Empire and his report indicates no issues.

    5. The carpet is 2 years old yet appears to be 10 years old. The household was described as extremely clean and is only inhabited by 2 adults and 2 cats therefore not highly trafficked. Shoes are not worn in the home.

We did not receive the product we thought we were purchasing. Empire denies any reasonability for product quality and poor install.

After the workers tore up all the carpet I was told I needed a subfloor. I needed to pay an extra $1000 on the spot... I was stuck. During the installation they kept leaving the front door open and also opened the windows. It was a 25 degree day and all the heat was going outside. When they finally finished they barely cleaned up, they left bottles of drinks in parts of the house where they were not working and tools were missing from the small tool box I had. I also discovered that several of the boards were at least a 1/4 away from the wall.

The final straw was that they unplugged my freezer in the garage for their tools and never plugged it back in. By the time I discovered it all the food was ruined. Adele told me I would receive a check for $200 to compensate me and it is now three weeks later and I am still getting the runaround. I have already taken to social media to share with everyone and asked them to share what a joke customer service is. My next recourse is the Attorney General's office as suggested by a friend. They lack professional skills as they do not introduce themselves and will say whatever they want in Spanish whether you understand or not. They did not install the carpet properly at the corners and damaged our garage door doing something they had no permission to do. Overall just very disappointing outcome for the price of $4200. I called and got the run around about how they could come out and glue the floor down for an additional fee $500.00 fee. I felt they should pay for it but I said okay to the $500.00 because I want my floor fixed. They were supposed to send according to them their very best crew out on Saturday, December 21st, 2013.

No one ever showed up after I spent time taking all my china and other dishes out of my china cabinet so they wouldn't get broken, unfortunately I dropped and broke a bowl that is 40 years old and can never be replaced. I called and asked why they didn't call or come as they said they would. They said they were trying to round up someone, ROUND UP someone, they said they were sending their very best installer. Then they said they would come on the following Monday. Well, on Monday, it was pouring down rain but they wanted to come but I said NO it's raining and I don't want my new wood floor walked on while they have to go in and out of the rain. Finally I was so mad I told the lady Janette I wanted them to just come out and take the floor up and give me my money back. She had another man call me and I say man not Gentleman called me and he was not very nice at all. He told me I could not get my money back POINT BLANK. NO REFUND. After putting me on hold for 10 minutes she got back on the phone, apologized and said a manager would be contacting me this afternoon. I still have not heard from anyone. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, I am filing a complaint with the finance company, Wells Fargo, to dispute the balance on the account and have contacted you. My hope is that this can be resolved without legal action but I will pursue that route if need be.

I had both vinyl and carpet priced, approved and ready for the install. On the day of the install, the contractor asked for another $128.00 because he had to purchase and install particle board to extend the underlayment in the dining room for the vinyl. Because of the critical timeline I had of putting our house on the market, I paid it. Normally, this would have been a deal breaker.

I called for service a week later for carpet seam(s) which had raised due to "according to the contractor", when they use the seam tape, it shrinks and makes the seam raise. I found this explanation hard to accept. I remember walking through many new homes prior to buying this home in 2004 and had not seen any issues like this. I also had the contractor redo the vinyl seam in the dining room where he installed the particle board. The seam was very noticeable and the contractor had to pull the vinyl up using a heat gun and use leveling compound to make the transition more dynamic. Several days later, the carpet seams once again raised up so I called for service and left 3 messages and got zip.

Through the BBB process, I ended up talking to the Bob ** (GM) and found him to be a nice guy who was genuinely concerned about my issues. Empire Today uses subcontractors who sometimes have a bad day which turn into a poor install. This combined with limited follow up on behalf of Empire Today turned into a terrible situation for me. My $9000 floor covering install turned into an unexpected $14000. My BBB case is listed as Resolved but it really isn't. I am not happy.

We would pay off the $5,100.00 in 12 months to Wells Fargo Bank.

Then the last week of November, we received a statement that the $1,600.00 must be paid by 12/13/2013 2 pm or we must pay the 27.99% accrued interest of $447.84 for a total $2,04784. I purchased carpeting from Empire 26 months ago, I found unusual wear on the stairway rug and called to inquire about the warranty/guarantee coverage. I was informed that the guarantee does not extend to high traffic areas like a stairway and therefore, there was nothing Empire could, or would do. The Empire Representative proceeded to tell me that I should have had the carpets steamed cleaned annually and taken better care of the rug as that would prolong the life of the material.

I asked as to why the Sales Representative did not mention the fact and she indicated that I should have checked the web page to learn about the carpet warranty limitations and maintenance procedures. Who gets their rugs steamed cleaned annually? As I purchased carpets for a large living room and second floor stair hallway/landing, I figured that the salesman would have mentioned that carpet on a stairway would not last long He did not! Also, there are only three people living in this home and one uses a stair lift to move up and down so her feet never touch the carpet. There is not a lot of traffic on the rug; it appears to be just plain junk and not inexpensive junk at that!

As Empire is going to nothing to remedy this situation, I can only advise you NOT TO PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE in order to be spared the grief of warranties that do not warrant anything and guarantees that that are beyond useless. I am going to have the carpet replaced but NOT BY EMPIRE!

He proceeded to peruse through the paperwork looking for his lead sheet for my appointment. He came into my house to measure and every two or three seconds, he will sit on my bed. He smelled like old dirty clothes and he was like over 75 years old. He didn't have the strength to measure an area which resulted in him needing to take multiple breaks. I have no ill feelings towards the elderly. I felt that Empire Carpet should have given this guy a job answering phones or something.

Fifteen minutes into his measuring. He asked to use my bathroom. He was gone for like 45 minutes and when he opened the bathroom door, the smell was offensive!!!! OMG!! I couldn't believe what I was experiencing. He then used my entire can of air fresheners in an attempt to conceal the stench!! How upsetting!! He finally finished the measurements and I asked him to email or send me the quote via regular mail. He insisted that he will be done shortly, blah, blah, blah. In the end he tried to force me to purchase his overpriced carpet. I told him he needed to leave my home. He continued to pressure me. I had to threaten to call the police in order for him to realize that I was serious.

It was the worst experience I have ever had!!!! I have been in sales for over 25 years and not once did I EVER behave in that manner!! I will never use Empire Carpet even if they gave me the carpet and padding for free!!!! These guys are the worst EVER!!!

Empire was to install our laminate flooring on Thursday & the following Thursday, they were to come back & install new carpet in 4 bedrooms. Was told by my "rep" they would call around 8am on Thursday, start early because "big job". At 11:00, still no call. Called the rep. Installers show up at noon. They proceed to put our furniture outside in our yard. After that, the one guy left saying he would be back at 6pm. "This guy can do the living room alone. He should be done by 6pm. I'll be back to help finish the hallway." After about 2-3 hours of talking to this guy, he was looking at me but not responding. I figured out he spoke no English, so I left him to his work. My husband gets home from work. At 5:30pm, only about 5 boards were laid. Time keeps passing. The other guy never shows up.

We called their customer service #. They were extremely patronizing & sarcastic, basically did not care that this job was not being done. I called our rep also & left a message. Finally, about one hour later, it's completely quiet. So we go out to our living room to see what’s going on. This guy has now stopped working & is sitting out on our step talking on the phone. At 9pm, the other guy finally shows up. When I asked him where he had been since he was 3 hours late, it’s dark out, our furniture is out on our lawn, his response to me: "If you needed me, you should of called my cell. You had the #." First off I did not have his cell #. Secondly it’s not my job to call him & thirdly could he of told me this guy spoke No English - he basically laughed. Finally our rep calls me, our furniture was moved back in & we were told this job would have to be finished tomorrow.

I originally set this up to be done on 2 consecutive Thursdays due to my work schedule. This guy proceeded to complain to me & my husband about how much work he has, no manpower & how he is not happy with the company, etc. So now I had to miss 8 hours of work on Friday to be home all day again for what was supposes to be "next day installation". JOKE!! The next day I receive a call from some manager who stated, "Sorry, I didn't get the message last night. I was out playing poker." The most unprofessional group of people ever! This guy goes on & on about “what we can we do to compensate you", "we don't want to lose you as customers", "this has never happened before", etc, etc. So I was to hear back on Monday from him & our rep about this so called compensation. We stated what our request for compensation was which was comp the floor & we'll pay for the 4 bedrooms.

Monday rolls around & NO CALL from either of these people. We called both... no reply. Tuesday, we receive a call from our rep stating their compensation is $300 off!!!!! WHAT A JOKE. That doesn't even cover my 8 hours of missed work. Keep in mind they’re charging us $6700 and offering $300 off. He then asks if Thursday is still good for our carpet installation. Are you kidding me? I will NEVER use Empire again!!!! We now have a bill for $3300 for this disaster. I also have contacted the BBB, the Attorney General. I will also be contacting an attorney if I receive one bill from these idiots!!!!

The sales representative for Empire Today came to our home. We had Berber carpet at the time. I told the sales rep that I was interested in like quality carpet that was durable, and would hold up for a long time. We had the Berber for 13 years and it still looked good, I just didn't like Mauve for the color. The sales rep. showed me carpet that was supposed to be like a low shag type. He also said that good padding would be beneficial. I was hesitant as I didn't want the carpet to mat down in walk ways. He told me that the carpet was very good quality and would be replaced if defective. He also said that the light color I was considering would be good with the specs of darker color in it as it holds up very well and doesn't lose its color.

The carpet is awful. The areas where there has been any traffic is nasty matted down. I have had the carpet cleaned professionally and still no difference. The carpet cleaning technician also said that the carpet was breaking down. The pad is not good and shouldn't be flat. Empire Today sent their guy to my home 3 different times. The 1st guy took pictures and told me that it did seem as there may be a problem with the lot that the carpet came from, but he would have to take the pictures to the office and I would be contacted. I did receive a call and I was told to have my carpet cleaned again professionally and call back to have another rep out to take more pics and inspect the carpet. I did and when they came out the 2nd time, pictures were taken again. The guy said he could see a major difference; however, it may be normal wear and tear. I cannot believe that it is just my husband and I.

I received a 3rd call from the assistant at Empire Today and she said there was nothing they were willing to do. I told her that I was so upset and also my sister-in-law whom I had referred to them also was very upset. The carpet is trash and what a rip off. I received another phone call about 2 weeks later from the General Manager that said he was sending an independent carpet inspector out which he did. The inspector did his tests and I received a call about a week later from the General Manager telling me it's normal wear to carpet and nothing he could do but to offer to replace the carpet at 1/3 the price if I agreed to sign contract. I think a class action should be started against this company. There are a lot of consumers that are also unhappy with the carpet they got from this company. I am contacting the BBB also to report this company.

Empire came in June to repair. Same problems. We called again. This time, Empire said their "installation supervisor" had to come out to inspect. She found installation errors (no expansion cuts), and also found a small spot of green mold in one bedroom.

She then sent installer out to fix the other bedroom. SAME PROBLEMS - warping, buckling, and popping out. Now Empire claims that it is our fault, that there is a leak in our condo, and they will not repair or replace (however, inspection before we purchased showed no leaks). If Empire cannot properly install bamboo flooring in South Florida, why are they taking our money?

    Issue was resolved.

    Original Review: Sept. 17, 2013

We contacted Empire Today for an estimate on new carpeting in our entire house. An Empire Today salesperson came out with samples of carpet and gave us an estimate of approx. $3,000. He assured us that the carpet was good quality, and that there is a 10-year warranty should anything happen to it, such as excessive wear or stains. It also came with a 1 year installation warranty. We decided to purchase. Not even 2 months later, the new carpet looked worse than the 10-year old carpet we had replaced with it. It was worn down to almost nothing and it was falling apart from the seams and from the middle of the floor. We do not by any means abuse our carpet. We never wear shoes in the house, we vacuum at least twice a week, etc. So we called Empire and they told us that they would send an inspector out to look at it. Instead of an inspector, an Empire salesperson came out, but even he told us that there was clearly a problem with the carpet and that he said he would request a full replacement of an upgraded carpet. He took pictures and went on his way.

Over 2 weeks later, after not hearing anything from Empire, I called them to check on our claim. The lady on the phone told us that the claim had been denied because, from the pictures, they could not see any defect in the carpet or the installation. When I asked to see a copy of the pictures, I was told that the salesman who took them passed away and they did not have access to his computer. After fighting with them for weeks, and filing a complaint with the BBB, they finally "offered" to replace our carpet with an upgraded carpet, but they called it a "goodwill replacement" and wanted us to sign a release form saying that they are free and clear from any problems we may have from here on out, we are not allowed to publish anything negative about their company, and we are not allowed to take legal action against them. We refused to sign such an "agreement" and decided instead to hire a certified inspector out of our own pockets.

(Side note: When we told Empire we would not sign the agreement because needing warranty work should not void a warranty, they tried to further get us to sign it by saying that's not what it actually meant. We had our lawyer read it and he told us Empire was lying, because it clearly states all of the above.) Hiring the certified inspector was the best $200 we spent. He was very precise and ran many tests on the quality of the carpet. It turns out the carpet was not installed properly to begin with, and on top of that, the tests on the quality came back under federal standards. The quality of the padding did come back within federal standards, but just barely. So all in all, they sell the cheapest stuff they can get and lie by saying it's good quality and that there's a good warranty on it. We are now suing Empire for our money back.

I have read many reviews where customers are unsatisfied with the quality of the flooring Empire installs and how Empire does not hold true to their "warranties." I urge you to run far and fast from this company. It will save you a lot of money and a lot of headache. And if you already purchased from them and are having trouble with their terrible customer service, please do yourself a favor and get a professional to inspect it for you - not one that Empire or even the carpet manufacturer sends out. You have to hire an independent contractor YOURSELF, or else they will not run all the necessary tests.

I have been seeing the Empire Today commercials for years and they always gave me the impression that their deals were great. I was very wrong concerning these so-called "deals" that they always have. With Empire Today, be prepared for extremely high cost next day installation. I'm not saying their product isn't quality but you should be prepared ahead of time that you will be paying far above the average price. The sales people are on a mission and they will ask you to commit that same day. The sales lady measured 830 square feet during the install estimation and the laminate selection was very small. Their final quote for 830 sq feet of laminate installed was over 8000, and that was after 50% off of the product and install cost!

Today, I had Lumber Liquidators come out for an install estimation and they measured almost 100 sq feet less than Empire Today did. I am getting my quality laminate installed for half of the cost of Empire Today. My purpose here is not to give them a bad reputation as I didn't end up going with them, but to inform potential buyers who may be on a budget. I did the math and had I went with Empire Today I would have spent almost 10 a square foot to have the old removed and the new installed. No, thank you.

Refund check for deposit received today. A manager of the local Empire Today made a telephone call to us and told us the check would be forthcoming from Northlake, Illinois and he was true to his words.

    Original Review: Aug. 29, 2013

On July 14, 2013, I placed an order for a large, bound carpet and 3 area rugs. The salesman was nice enough but way too chatty. Apparently he distracted himself because the order never got submitted. He told me the bound carpeting would take 2 weeks to arrive at my home. After 3.5 weeks and no word from Empire or the salesman, I called the Customer Service number. The Customer Service person could find no order (even though I had an order number). I knew I was in big trouble then. The customer service rep was nice and kept saying "I am so sorry, I need to call the local office to see if there has been an order number mistake." I was promised a call back that day.

No call that day or for 3 additional days. I called back. I spoke with another customer service rep who was apparently reading from a script and kept saying "I'm sorry you are unhappy." Really? I was told the local installation manager would call me back that day. No call. I waited 2 days and called again. I did speak with the local installation manager who told me that the carpet was now at the binder (we are now 4 weeks out on a 2-week job). He said he would call me back with the install date. No call.

I called Customer Service AGAIN. This time I spoke with a supposed manager of the local operation. His English was fractured and I got frustrated and told him to cancel the order and that I expected my $100 refund back immediately (after all, they took and cashed the check immediately). No check as of 8/28/2013. I have filed a report with the BBB and posted several blogs.

I would think long and hard about doing business with these folks. They absolutely LIE when there is no need to. Had I been told the truth on call #1 (that the salesman lost the order or his mind), I would have been okay with a human mistake. But to be told repeatedly that "you will receive a call back" and no call is forthcoming, to have to repeat the story over and over and over, and to now be waiting for MY money is ridiculous.

So I see all these people are not happy about how they were treated from the company Empire Today. I had applied for a sales position with Empire Today and thank god they had a meet and greet before their class. The sales manager was giving us some info on how they expect you to sell their flooring. I have been selling flooring for over 10 years. Had a great reputation. I moved so I thought maybe Empire Today would be a fast track to the area. Basically I learn they treat their salesperson like used car salesmen. They want their salespeople to close every sale on the first visit. If the person thinks about it for a few days the original salesperson loses out on the sale and the next guy gets all the credit for the sale. They want to train all their salespersons to be very aggressive and they want people to call up complaining about their salesperson.

They are also very proud to be the most expensive flooring company out there. As a consumer I would recommend that you take the time to get a second opinion and don't rush into buying a floor from high pressure salesperson. The company's ads are so misleading that even most of the salesperson don't understand them. Don't believe me. Just ask them to explain how you are going to get 2 rooms for free or the next room for $99. I would bet before they leave they will make a call to the sales manager who will then try to sell to you over the phone. All I kept hearing from the sales manager was, "Any excuses your customer tells you why they can't buy the floor today, then they are lying to you."

I'm sorry but 90% of my past customers never bought from me on the first visit. They either needed to talk it over with their spouses, maybe wanted to get a second quote or wanted me to bring different samples to pick from. But on the second visit, most of the time, I would close the sale and the customer was very happy and didn't feel rushed into a floor from a pushy salesperson. If you are thinking of buying or working as a sale rep, do your home work and google them and look at all the bad reviews. There are way too many bad reviews. I would hope a red flag would go up before you do business with this company.

They paid for the plumbing which was OK but only gave me 250 on a brand new table, had the manager come put the light fixture in and put the part of ceiling they damaged.

Now my light doesn't go on. I couldn't find anyone to fix my damn table and there could be mold in the ceiling now. I want to first say that I have never lodged a complaint with any vendor I've ever dealt with. Empire Today is one of the worst companies I've ever had to deal with. I wish I would have done my research first and talked to my friends before buying carpet from them. Let's start with the fact that the subcontractors they use don't speak English very well and showed up in a beat up Navy blue van. They didn't represent Empire very well. They showed up two minutes before the end of my window to install the carpet in three rooms, my hallway and stairs. Also note that it was 6 pm when they showed up and were banging around in my upstairs until around 11 pm.

I was happy for them to leave, but it was late and I had already made them fix seams in several areas. I was pregnant at the time and didn't have the ability or time to deal with my dissatisfaction. I dealt with the issue of how my stairs looked until after the baby was born and finally decided to call Empire after myself and several other people, including children, were getting injured in tack strips poking through on my steps. Not too mention the fact that they didn't cut the carpet correctly and there was blue padding showing on the edges of several of my steps.

So now the nightmare started. I called my trusty sales rep who left me his card and said to call at any time. I called him to talk about the issues and he directed me to customer service and said he couldn't help. He basically said he was paid his commission and the job is complete on his end. Unbelievable!

So I called customer service at their 1-800 number. Complained about the tack strips and the uneven carpet. Also complained about the installers and requested that they don't send the same guys back. I was then contacted by their Baltimore/Washington office customer service representative who should seek a new career that doesn't involve her talking to real people. She was unfriendly and was simply calling me to book the appointment. I also told her my concerns and told her I didn't want the same installers back in my home. I was shocked and pissed off when the same damn guys showed up the next day. I allowed them to hammer in the tack strips since that was crucial to be fixed and the damn guys literally pulled my carpet back from the wall and cut the blue padding out so wouldn't be visible where all the uneven cuts were. They pushed the piling over and said it was fixed. I demanded they replace the stairs and get it right. They told me my wall was crooked!?! Regardless, they proceed to call their supervisor and spoke in another language about the issue, which was not only disrespectful....it's just wrong.

They leave and I received a call from the unfriendly lady scheduling another appointment for a sales rep to come out to show me samples because they don't make my carpet anymore. Keep in mind I bought the carpet in December and they stopped manufacturing it in January. So now I have the issue where they told me they would replace the stairs with a different carpet. I was pissed and told them I wanted them to at least replace the hallway, too, so it matches the stairs. And that it's bad enough that it will not match my three rooms. They had the nerve to tell me that I have to pay for the labor of the hallway replacement.

I demanded to speak to a manager when she called to schedule it last Wednesday and she told Me she would send it to the manager's meeting the next day. I never heard back from her or a manager. I decided to call back today, which is a week later and the unfriendly lady told me that she finally got a message from management saying that I still have to pay for the hallway labor. I asked again to speak to a manager and she wouldn't let me. She told me management made the decision. I asked her for the manager's name and she wouldn't give me a name. She told me the email just came from management. She proceeded to book an appointment and I demanded yet again to talk to management and also demanded to have new installers come. She pushed me to agree to pay for the hallway (165 dollars) before she could be it.

I don't know what to do at this point. They are not understanding the fact that they screwed up the install and it's not my fault they don't have the same carpet I ordered. I shouldn't have to pay for the labor in the hallway. Empire needs to admit to this and pay for the hallway and stairs. It's bad enough I had to pick a color close to what I have in my rooms in a different type of carpet so it won't look bad. It still won't match my rooms and it'll be a completely different carpet. Does anyone have any suggestions on who I can contact at Empire outside the Baltimore/Washington office and someone who is responsible for that office??

It looked very nice as long as you didn't look closely at it. Corners and mistakes are hidden by molding which is pieced together. When I called the company in Orlando FL, I was given the runaround. I was very persistent. Empire sent out a husband/wife team who fixed some of the mistakes, however their solution to a bubble in my bedroom floor was to slice it with a razor. Now I have a cut there. This all took place about 2 years ago. Very shoddy workmanship. I want to cry every time I clean my flooring. I know other people have had this same experience with this company. Sorry, I have no pics.

I worked for Empire for almost 3 years. At first I was excited about the apparent very reputable and fine flooring company I was going to work for. Prior to going to work for Empire I had been very successful in sales for over 25 years. All of which were in-home sales positions. Let me first of all say that if I had done due diligence and researched this company before going to the interview, I would definitely have not been interested. I was in desperate need of a job so I just went for it. Besides my ex boss was working there, how bad could it be? (More on this later.) They do offer to pay you $300 a week during your training which is nice but believe me they get it back quick. What happens is that the trainees get most of the leads out of the class until they have run 50 leads. At this point Empire can run the numbers on your track record so at this point your graded as a rep (More on this later also.)

So as you can imagine many of the fresh meat (being led to slaughter) has many of the high sales numbers and are lifted up at sales meetings as if they are the next big thing. In the meantime those leads are taken away from the hard working dedicated and very experienced reps so their numbers/success suffers. At which point the management says, "Why are you having a problem? Come on get with the program". Or "generate some of your own referrals, go door knocking in your neighborhood, or mail your existing customers for referrals to generate sales" (at your expense of course). And since they are constantly hiring this is a non stop process. I say hired but you're never an employee, you are a contractor so you are responsible to get/pay for your LLC etc, etc. I hired on with 3 people in my class. After the training I was the best rep doing $75,000 my first month and only getting leads for 3 weeks.

I believe I came in 3rd or 4th out of 25 reps total for that office. I received a 1% bonus ($750) which did not even cover my gas expenses for those 3 weeks. This was one of the problems with the bonus structure, you soon discover you had to reach $75,000 in (installed) sales to just have your gas bill paid! From my experience about 10-15% of the reps were able to do this on a consistent basis. There was another bonus if you did over $100,000 in (installed) sales but this was very hard to do. You basically had to run 4 leads per day to even have a chance at doing this. And with new reps getting leads first and less leads to spread around, getting to that level was extremely difficult. The turn over rate was astronomical. You would see new faces on a weekly basis. Churn and burn was Empires process.

A few months after I was hired they started a new training procedure, instead of 3 to 5 very sharp trainees per class I began to see 8 to 12 (bodies) new trainees per class so you can imagine what happened to the leads at that point. Hundreds of leads were wasted on dozens of reps out of training that did not even last a week! This was like Empire physically reaching into my pocket and taken money. Then about 4 months out of training Empire started a grading system for reps. This was from A to F - A=best rep to F=worst rep. Bottom line if you were not a A or a B rep you were out of luck when it came to leads. And get this, if you were given a lead and the customer cancelled the appointment, it was still counted against you. Well as you can imagine I went from an A rep out of class (after 50 cherry picked leads) to an F rep left out to dry. It took almost 3 years for me but again I had 25 years sales experience and a work ethic to back it up. But for most reps it's crash and burn real quick. So if you are thinking about working for Empire do your research and know what you're getting into.

As far as Empire from a customer stand point: Read these reviews, 95% of what you hear from customers is true. I LIVED it for almost 3 years. I won't repeat any of them as they are quite obvious. Let me just say that as a rep it became increasingly difficult to back the ads. What a scam most of them are, I can't believe they have not been sued yet! I do not believe the founder of Empire would ever have believed his company would end up like this. And I don't know if all the locations or offices are like mine (God lets hope not) but according to inter-office resources, that place was the accumulation of every bad soap opera you could imagine! And again it's a miracle they have not been sued in this area also! Let's just leave it at that! STAY AWAY!!!

Horrible carpet installation and even worse customer service. Our experience started with a pleasant sales person who came over and estimated the pricing. When he was going over the contract there was an item called: "We do not adjust doors." He said, "Your closet doors are adjustable and they will adjust them if needed." After the carpet installation guys came over, they first charged me and then told me one of the closet doors may need adjustment, but they are not able to adjust it. I called the sales person and he assured me that he will send someone to take care of that the next day. After installation, none of the closet doors were installed and none of the room doors could be opened or closed!!! They even did not care that I am disappointed and was laughing, saying, "You should get someone to cut all the doors"!!!

Since then, I have been calling the customer service, the sales guy, and the person who was supposed to come over and adjust the doors and no one is taking the responsibility! They keep telling me, "We will contact you by tomorrow!" The worst experience ever.

In April of 2013, my wife wanted carpet in our front room. At the time, I was working two jobs and did not have time to do it. She had just had her foot screwed together after an injury and could not do any lifting. She called Empire and the salesman came to the house. When he came, he made a remark about how well of a job Empire did on the bamboo wood flooring in the kitchen. I had installed that just two months earlier. After being assured that the installers would move the large items because I had no time to do so and my wife was not able to, we agreed to a price and paid that day in full. The installation of the carpet over all looked good. The problem lied in the fact that the installers scratched not only my new bamboo flooring, but the oak hardwood in the hallway. There was also an issue with the installers helping their selves to some alcoholic beverage that was in the hutch that they moved.

We called Empire and they sent a person out that oversees the installers. She told my wife she was going to stop by because she had a feeling. She took pictures of the damage and told us to get estimate because they do not sell bamboo. At the time, it looked as if Empire was going to step up to resolve the issue. They called a month later to tell me that the owner of the installation company was willing to pay out of pocket for the damages, but Empire told him that we wanted it to go to his insurance. That is not the truth. I could care less how it’s paid as long as it is resolved.

Once I was contacted by the insurance company, they told me that they spoke to the installers. The installers informed them that they might have done some damage, but not all that we were claiming, and they would not be fixing my floor. We called Empire back to see if this was standard practice for them. After waiting a day to get a call back from a District Manager, her response was “It is not our problem.” I'm not sure if this is a battle between the install company and Empire or what. If this is a bluff on both their parts to not pay or fix the floor, they are sadly mistaken. I am a person of principle. I will pay three times the amount in lawyer fees than I did for the carpet in the first place. I will never use Empire again.

I started as a Salesperson with Empire Today in March 2013. I live in the state of Tennessee and for the most part, people are very poor. During my training with Empire, I was always skeptical about the sales training. They start telling about how much money you can earn. After observing the commission percentage scale, you begin to see the possibilities based on the amount of sales. However, they never tell you that when you make a sale of $13000, with their 60% promotion, it's reduced to Empire making most of the money from the sale; you will most likely end up with $250.00. They will tell you one day to make the sale by any means possible to beat out the competition, and another day you can be terminated for doing just that. They exploit everyone.

You run your car to the ground and there is no compensation. Their products prices are inflated. They ran a $99 ad. Our job was to convince the customer that the product was $99 and the material and installation would be several thousand dollars. I had trouble with that and because I had trouble with feeling comfortable with my explanation, the company began to have trouble with me. I felt as an Independent Consultant, I also had the right to make a sound decision about what I found acceptable. This is when you discover that you have no rights. Everything is fine until this point. There is no discussion. Empire rules and you are out.

After spending weeks regretting your decision, you are too far to quit because you need some money to pay the next bill before you can start looking for something else. I had a lead taken from me and given to someone else in front of me instead of offering me a gas card. I have seen worse than that from the Empire's Managerial Staff. I am a sixty-three-year-old lady living on a budget and was tossed out in the cold. Everything was good as long as I was bringing in the money but a couple of bad weeks based on a bad advertisement they ran and I was penalized. They came with a lot of reasons but all were unreasonable. They were ready to try out their new trainees and after they had invested $300 per week, per person. It was time to send the sheep out to repay the money.

Somehow I can't help but feel that there is something unlawful about the way they conduct business or it should be unlawful. You get the feeling that you are working with mobsters. There is so much to tell about these people, you don't even know where to begin. If you keep your mouth shut, you might last 6 mo. Whoever heard of an Independent contractor not being allowed to speak or give an opinion. I was told that they can terminate me at any moment's notice without a letter or discussion or conference call - just like that. If there is anyone out there who has a legal answer to this question, please contact me.

I contacted Empire Carpets for new vinyl and carpet while they had a $99 per room special. The contract write up did not show $99. I was advised that all I was paying was $99 but it had been rolled into the labor and installation charges. This should not be. How can a customer be certain all they are paying in $99? This very issue became a problem when my contractor had already done some bathroom work. I saw a work order that stated the materials needed were quarter bead, seam sealer, and removal of vinyl. The removal of the vinyl was already done. Their quarter bead was not used and no seam was created at it was a small bathroom. When I called Customer Service, I was transferred to Lisa in the Raleigh, NC office. She informed me that I could not receive a credit for these charges as I was not charged for these items. That is a lie. Empire does not give products for free. Everything is charged for.

A second bathroom was not worked on at all. I had left my contractor in charge as I had a medical issue. Lisa refused to work with him and was very rude and unprofessional, resulting in the installers having to come back for a second day. The actual installers were very good; however, having at least one person on the job that is proficient in English is essential. Empire Carpet needs to redo their billing and not hide or mislead customer with their charges. Lisa in the Raleigh office needs to learn to be more professional and work with customers and not speak to them as if they are too stupid to understand.

We all know advertised deals have fine print, but I guess they do business on the hope that consumers are idiots! The ad was $99 per room/hallway, and they gave me a price of $3,700 for two very small rooms with a 4' x 4' hall in between, totaling only 250 sq. ft. Okay, I'll give them it's "3 spaces" according to their standards, so after accounting for the first $297, how did they justify the other $3,400? Installation! Really?! How long will the job take - a month? Haha! "It should be less than a day, maybe 4-5 hours." So you charge $700-$800 an hour for labor? No answer, of course not!

After that joke of an estimate, to keep the day I took off from work from being a total waste of time, I agreed to carpet for a flight of stairs which wasn't a bad deal at $424 - except when they came to install a few days later, they brought the wrong carpet. The strange thing was that it had the same name as what I picked from the book, and was on my receipt, but it was definitely not what I had picked out. The installation manager and salesman were very apologetic, and I agreed to have the salesman come back to show me the samples again, and they would re-install the right carpet at no cost if I wanted, or I could keep what they installed.

Fair enough, at least I thought, until he "forgot" to show up for our next appointment. Now I have to waste more time trying to get a resolution. BTW, the installer didn't do a good job either. The carpet isn't tight, especially along the edges of the stairs against the wall. When the installation manager said they'd re-install the right carpet for me, the installer acted upset and started telling me that now Empire would charge him for two installs, so he'd lose money - as if that were my problem and I cared. I had to literally tell him to take it up with Empire, not me. I'm done with Empire and would tell anyone not to even bother doing business with them.

I get a call Friday morning from Empire having to reschedule. But they will take $50.00 off. I rescheduled for Monday, 4-8-2013 same time. 8:30 Monday morning, Empire calls to cancel once again. But Empire said they will take an additional $50.00 off. I’m thinking by now my $99.00 room is paid for.

I reschedule for today, 4-9-2013. The sales agent comes at 9am. It’s starting out good so far. He came in, measured and with the $100 off, the installation fee was still going to be $1,495.00 for 1 room. I asked him twice in disbelief if that was truly the price because to me it sounded ludicrous. He stated that the prices were matched with competitors and industry prices. I asked how much Empire was charging by square foot to install, and he stated $3.21 per sq. ft. He said I could call any other big name store, Menards, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and they would charge the same if not more.

I thanked him for his time and was on the phone with Menards to see if what he said had any truth in it. After speaking to several contractors who literally laughed when I told them Empire's story to me, they stated that Empire charges outrageously and most contractors charge $0.39 - $0.59 cents per square foot. So now, buying carpet that cost me $395.00 plus the contractor’s fee which is $350.00 I am going to pay $750.00. That is really far-fetched from Empire’s leading competitor and industry prices. Thank God I listened to my gut, and instinct told me that something was just not quite right. Thank you Empire for nothing.

As a former Empire sales person, let me just tell you it’s not the sales people’s fault as to the deceptive practices. Empire trains the sales people to measure and then add a formula to that calculation that adds sq. ft. and if the sales people do not add that footage, they do not get paid and cannot work there for long. The sales people are forced to do this by the system Empire uses to hand out leads to the sales people. They are taught to be as deceptive as possible and to flat out lie to prospects.

Empire rewards the deceptive reps, which are usually the ones that are making the most money, by taking it from you the customer and paying themselves and the company. I learned a lot working there, and that is, I would never do business with these slime balls and crooks. The entire company is all about hoping that people are dumb enough to pay the prices that they con you into. Empire even goes as far as to teach the sales people how to gain the customers’ trust and then nail them with the highest price possible. This is a flimflam company. My best advice would be to stay away from Empire; they are all con artists and will lie to your face!

Yesterday, we picked out flooring for the lower level of our home. The salesman seemed professional and caring, and we agreed on an installation today. We discussed that we would not pay until the job was completed and inspected by us. This morning I received a call for complete payment, and they indicated they had not even left Newport News yet. I told her that regardless of what their contract said, we would not pay in full or even half prior to install. She asked why we signed off on their contract, and I told her that the contract was given to us during the measuring process and that the rep knew we would not pay until complete.

I have now had 3 calls from them this morning. We cancelled the contract and I faxed them a cancellation letter. The last 2 calls, a manager Linda and the sales rep but said companies do not put that much material in a home without payment in advance. I assured them both that we never pay in full upfront, and I was told that could not be possible. The salesman said the same thing, which is crap as we have never had to pay in advance for contract services. I was also told that my credit card would guarantee that the work would be done properly, but we all know that is an uphill battle of wills. I am uncomfortable that they have our address and have been in our home; I guess the alarm will stay on all day from now on! Don't trust anything they say.

I met the salesperson in my building. He measured 5,250 sq ft., showed me and I pick the carpet I wanted. He was to send an expert to check the floor to tell me what it will cost to prep it. None was sent. Their estimate to prep was $2,100. I signed the contract, gave a deposit, and was not offered any deals or financing. COD to pay $8,100.00 before they even start. They would not budge to pay them COD when the carpet was put down. When installers went to the bldg., I received a call from Mr. Lou ** (might be misspelled), the manager, telling me I needed to do some repairs to the floor before they can install. I paid $200 to a contractor and he did patch some areas. The confirmation was for them to be there between 9 and 10. I told them we could not be there till after 3. I received a call from Mr. Lou and he said, “I cannot let them start without the check."

I had to drive 45 minutes to the bldg in terrible weather. I got there; he was telling my tenant the floor has structural problems, just after he was telling me over the phone. He and the installer are my tenants. The only way to install the carpet without any indentations is to put a sub-floor in. I am the customer; I pay him and he is telling my tenant all this. I got there with an $8,100 cashier’s check. He took the check, even though he had cancelled the delivery of the carpet. He insisted that the problem was between me and the tenant, and I asked him, “Who is the customer and who is paying?” Unprofessional customer service, the job was not done, the inspection of the bldg. was cancelled, 2 weeks have passed, and the tenant will not get in first of the month, and yes I would like to sue, also!

Empire Today came to my home mid-May and we chose their high end carpet, extra grade padding with a 20-year warranty. It was installed on June 2, 2012. Total hours is 9 hours first day, 3 hours second day and only sent 2 guys. It did not look or feel like what we picked. I tried to reach the company so they could send my salesperson back to look. It took two weeks for a call back. They left a message, I tried to again reach them again but had no response for another two weeks. Finally I called the credit card company. Capital One said to have an independent company to inspect the carpet. Their findings were poor installation, below grade padding and builder grade carpet quality. The charge that I paid, $3,087.00, was now in dispute with Capital One.

After 5 months of documentation, letters and transcripts, Capital One turned it over to Visa, who sided in our favor that we were victims of bait and switch scam. The other interesting fact was that the padding was below 4.5 and we paid for a padding that was 61/4. The 20-year warranty was only valid on padding 4.5 or higher. Our warranty was non-existent even before it was even installed. The case was closed by Visa on Nov. 11. We just started to receive harassment letters from Empire Today that we owe them $3,087.00. We have responded by phone as they asked and explained we do owe them anything. They did call back and have sent another letter threatening a mechanic lien and credit reporting.

We will need to hire a lawyer. Stay away from Empire Today as they are scam artists.

We moved all of our bedroom furniture into our living room and dining area because we figured we would be done and have our new rug today. After several phone calls to make sure of the time and confirm the day, we waited, and waited. Finally, I called at 11:30 am (they said they would call at 7 am) and the girl told me I was never scheduled! I was furious! I said that I couldn't live with no beds and everything piled in my living space. Her reply was to wait 5 more days! I said, "I want my money back." We called to get a quote for carpet for our family, living rooms and hallway. A salesperson came out and was early which was nice. He had just sold carpet to a condo in our neighborhood and starting telling us personal information about this person(!). First, after measuring 586 sq. ft., he quoted $2550. My husband and I just laughed and said, "No, thank you." "Well, I wanted to make a sale but I couldn't go below $2000." Then he says, "If you remove the carpet, I can take $100 off." Then he was looking at his paperwork and said, "Oh, I made a mistake; it's 486 sq ft," and said if we would do it for $1500. After all this, we gave him a deposit and my husband was reading and signing the paperwork. I said, "So the $1500 includes moving the furniture and removing the carpet?"

"Oh yeah, I wasn't going to charge you any way!" It was shady sounding now. After he left, we called around and found a very good company (locally) for nylon carpet which is better. We could pay about $100 more for carpet that would last as long as the one we are replacing (26 years). My husband then decided to measure the rooms, since we were feeling a bit ripped off from Empire and our floors are only 375 sq. ft. Don't believe this company!

We complained and they sent their own inspector. A joke! He was very rude and used a hairbrush to lift the nap on a small section, looked at our vacuum and concluded (surprise, surprise) it was fine. 4 years later, it looks like it's 20 years old instead of guaranteed 20 years. $3,000.00 down the drain, in my opinion.

My family scheduled a free at home estimate for ceramic tile in a very small bathroom (25 square feet). The salesman showed up on time and was friendly and informative while he measured the space and explained the process of laying tile. We had already removed the toilet, existing floor and underlayment. When we sat down to talk about price, the friendly tone took a drastic turn. He gave us an original price of $858. We thanked him for his time and told him we would let him know what we decided. Not happy with our response, he says he can lower the price to $732 if we agree to have a lawn sign in our yard. Again, we told him we are just looking to get estimates and would not be making any decisions on the spot. Throughout this time, his attitude is becoming increasingly aggressive. He proceeds to call his manager on the phone to see if he can get the price lowered any more. Finally, he says that if we sign now, our price would be $532.

Once more, we told him that we are waiting for our mom to come home before making any decisions. I asked if the price would still be good in a few hours when my mom had a chance to look over everything. At this point, the salesman becomes extremely agitated and insists that he would not have time to deal with us later in the day and that if we wanted the lowest price, we had to sign on the spot. Not falling for his aggressive tactics, we informed that we would not be signing. He hastily gathered his belonging and literally stormed out of our house. Also, one of the first questions I had asked when he arrived was how long the estimate was good for, his response was 30 days. However, upon his exit from our house, he insisted that paper he has written our estimates on was for his record and that we could not keep the estimate. This left our family with no proof of any of the prices that had been discussed.

We had an Empire laminate floor installed on the entire first floor of our house in February of 2012. The installation took a full day longer than we were told. They did not cover the entire area that was paid for, and the installation was incredibly poorly done. We decided that, instead of having them spend even more time in our house, we would live with the shoddy installation. Unfortunately, after a few months, we noticed a black mold growing in the floor throughout the house.

After calling Empire Customer Service, we were told someone would be out to check the floor. The first contractor said it wasn't mold and that we weren't cleaning the floor correctly but after being unable to clean the staining himself, he agreed that he would send it up the chain. A second contractor came out, said it wasn't mold and that we weren't cleaning the floor correctly and that if it didn't come clean after using Simple Green (it didn't), Empire would replace the floor. A third contractor who didn't seem to have been appraised of any of the previous discussion came out, was blown away by the poor installation and agreed that the floor was faulty.

At this point, our Empire Customer Service rep stopped returning phone calls. We went back to the 800 number to try to start again and finally ended up with the same rep who promised to send yet another contractor out to look at the floor. Finally, a full review was done. The contractor said he had seen this many times and wrote a report stating that it was a known flaw in the floor's manufacturing. Again, our Empire rep disappears for a while. Next, a salesperson comes to the house and tells us we can pick a new floor, but only from the three versions of their cheapest floor - not comparable to the floor that we originally paid for. We picked a floor and then, surprise, no follow up about when they will install.

We called the 800 number again, got shuttled around some more, finally we were set up an install date. The day came and no one showed. We called the 800 number, got shuttled around, got told that not only do we not have an install appointment, but there was no record even of a salesperson having visited our house. At this point, we just want a refund and to never have to deal with Empire again. As of this point (November 2012) Empire is still dodging our phone calls and refusing to give us a straight answer about what we can expect. This is the most atrocious customer service I have ever experienced in my life.

We decided to re-carpet our carpeted areas. First, we checked the Home Improvement stores (HD & The 'L' place); thousands of pieces of carpet yet no one who knew carpets at either place. We checked a few stand-alone carpet places - either too high or too low quality. We decided to give Empire a call. Shoot me if I ever recommend them to anyone! Peter the Slick salesman arrived on a Saturday; a half hour late, but that's ok. He thought we're some sort of rubes but he's pleasant enough. When he gave us his 'best price', I said it's too high and offered 15% less (which brings it down to the Home Improvement places' price). He did the ''let me call my boss routine - yada, yada, yada'' and they agreed to the cost. We decided 2/3 of the carpet will be installed the following Friday (the in stock pieces) and the remaining ''TBD''.

I got a call the next day (Sunday) reminding me of my Friday install (installers can arrive anytime between 8am and 6pm). I got a call and an email on Monday, reminding me of my Friday install (installers can arrive anytime between 8am and 6pm). I got an email on Tuesday saying I “must call them and confirm the Friday install or they will call me,” which they did before I saw the email and I was reminded that installers can arrive anytime between 8am and 6pm. I get an email and a call on Wednesday, reminding me of my Friday install (installers can arrive anytime between 8am and 6pm). I got a call Thursday reminding me of my Friday install and that the installers could arrive anytime between 8am and 6pm. Did you get all that?

So, Friday arrived... at 3pm I called Empire. After pressing several buttons, the message said, ''Installers can arrive anytime between 8am & 6pm. You can hang up now or wait for a customer service rep.'' Ok, ok, I get it, they're probably on their way. At 6:05pm I called Empire, “I want to cancel my contract! You ** call me everyday and then don't show up?!” Peter the Slick called me 5 minutes later, ''I am so sorry! This is not the way Empire works. I've never received a call like this (sob, sob, sob). Can we please put your carpet in tomorrow (Saturday)? If you don't hear from someone by 10:30am give me a call (which is the message I am supposed to hear when I call them, but never did!).” I agreed; the installers arrived at 9am and were very nice men. One of them speaks perfect English and they do an excellent job of carpeting the upstairs. I told them that I hope they will be the ones coming back to do the downstairs Berber when it comes in.

Two days later the Berber arrived; I got a call, “We will be coming between 8am and 6pm on Wednesday.” I called back, “No you won't! Allow me to tell you when is convenient - is that ok?” We decided 2 Fridays later - 11 days. On Monday the calls and emails started again. Enough is enough! I told them and they didn't call again until Friday morning at 8am (the date of the install) to say they will be there between 2 & 6pm. “Excellent,” I said! At 5:54pm on a Friday night they came screaming up my driveway. Ok, ok, it's the same crew; excellent! I'll forgive the fact that my night will be ruined to get this over with. The lead man started measuring, “Oh, did I tell you that I'm a general contractor? Well, I am.” I noticed that he's measuring 2 ways; I asked, “You're not putting two seams perpendicular to each other in my Berber, are you?'' ''I have to, they didn't send enough material to do just one seam.'' Berber is fairly hard to seam in the first place, putting 2 seams in will be noticeable. How much more carpet did he need to send? Fifteen inches! He sent 30 feet when he needed to send 31’3”!

I called Empire to say that I had had it with them; to take the carpet back and refund my money. Of course, that department was closed so they'd call me back Monday morning. It's now Monday afternoon. I just called; ''Someone will be calling you back in 1-3 days to let you know what your refund will be.'' Oh, I already know what it will be! End of story: Avoid Empire today at all costs! There is no such thing as a sale; there is only salesmanship! They are clueless as to scheduling and the customer service stinks!

The bad reviews I read about Empire Today are exactly what I experienced. The salesman was pretty much late. He was supposed to be at my house between 1 and 4 pm for an estimate. It was only after I called to cancel the appointment that he showed up 10 minutes late. I wanted to have the laminate in the kitchen replaced b/c of water damage from the freezer water line. Initially he gave me an exuberant quote in the amount of $3,200 to replace kitchen laminate (200 sq. ft). My eyes almost popped out of my head when he gave me the quote.

He graciously reduced the price to $2,700. I still balked at that price. So, he called his manager and offered me a deal of $1750 if I agreed to have the laminate installed the next day and selected the laminate they wanted me to purchase (I didn't like the pattern and color). Then, I was the recipient of a pressure sale pitch to have it installed the next day, saying this was the best price ever and that I would never get a better quote from anyone else. Now mind you, it's standard practice to have laminate or hardwood flooring acclimate in the house for 7 days. Otherwise, bucking or warping could/would have occurred. There was not a peep from the salesman about that. Had I done the next day installation, there was a good chance things would have gotten screwed up (buckling/warping of the floor), and then the fight to have it fixed. He left when I said I would not pay more than $1,000.

Empire Today's competition came in and gave a no hassle laminate floor quote of $1,080, which actually looked very nice. I since have had the kitchen flooring replaced with 5/8ths inch intertwined bamboo for $1.08/ sq. ft for about $1,000, a big price difference. Stay away from Empire Today.

My husband and I recently ripped up some crappy laminate in our dining/kitchen area and are looking to replace the flooring with either laminate or hardwood. I called Empire Today because I saw their commercial advertising free installation. Their sales rep came out and seemed like a really nice guy. We were getting along fine until it came down to calculating the cost. Mind you, the area to be floored is about 220sq ft. He estimated that it would cost $2,750 for laminate! I know that I can get bamboo flooring for about $1.98 per sq ft and with some patience, I can get nice laminate for $1.39 per sq ft. Underlayment is estimated to be about $0.50 per sq ft and renting a floor stapler is $35 per day. Therefore, I estimate material costs to be no more than $750 at the most for bamboo.

Granted, this does not factor in labor costs. I'm not an idiot. I knew that I would not exceed $1,000 for flooring. More than that is just ridiculous, especially on a grad student budget. He seemed generally upset that I would not budge from my cap of $1,000. I told him before we got started that I was just feeling out what the costs would be. During this time, he never brought up the free installation. It's his job to mention these specials to please the customer, not mine. He started with the high pressure tactics such as, "You called me here. I know you want this" and "This is how I make my living." Then he tried to negotiate down the cost, which just made me very angry.

The cost is what the cost is! He was pushing for me to commit to the floor (which I wasn't that crazy about) despite me telling him that a purchase that large would require reflection. At that point, I just shut it down and got direct with him that we would not be purchasing their product. He then insisted on calling people to see what else they could do. I was so angry by that point. I held my ground with no and eventually he left. Bottom line, if I'm going to spend >$10 per sq ft for flooring, it better clean and mop itself, cook me dinner and tell me I'm pretty.

Against my better judgment, I did reschedule and a rep showed within the agreed upon time slot. I told the rep (Christian, who did not bring any samples with him) that I wanted wood laminate and wanted to take advantage of the "free installation special" that they advertised on TV. He said the special only applied to a certain kind of laminate and I asked what the price for that would be.

He measured the area, which was 300 (three hundred) square feet, tapped some numbers into his calculator and told me the price would be $3,000! (Without showing me any samples!) I was stunned because I know for a fact that the job should not have exceeded $700. In fact, I had a friend who got wood laminate for 3 large bedrooms for only $1,800 from Home Depot, which is where I will be headed next. Needless to say, I threw the guy out of the apartment. I decided to change the rugs on the top floor, only two bedrooms, an office, little hallway and the stairs. One bedroom is 12 x 11, 2nd bedroom is 11 x 10.5 and the small office is 5 x 6, hallway and stairs. I called Empire and they measured the rooms; after their calculations of the two bedrooms with the rug that I chose in accordance to their offer, he gave me a price over $2Gs and then he started to calculate the office, hallway and stairs in which I didn't know why since their ad on TV said two rooms and the rest of the house/room will be free. The representative came back with a different price, almost $4Gs. I don't own a big house to be that costly and second, if your ad said two rooms and the rest will be free, why would you come back with a different price? On top of everything, the rep called his office and I heard his manager or whoever it was telling him "if that doesn't work give him this, if not then give him this." Seriously, come on now? I was so angry that I told the rep to leave my house. That Empire Today is a racket and I'm not a fool.

Installation scheduled and cancelled for 6 times - End of June, I purchased laminate and carpeting from Empire with next day installation. The laminate installation was fine, but the Carpet installation was scheduled 6 times (the 6th time it was installed) because of several reasons (that was given to me by customer service): (1) The installers did not show up for work; (2) they did not have enough carpet; (3) no reason, just cancelled; (4) did not show up and; (5) came with a carpet for one room when I purchased for three. I spent several phone calls and emails with the salesman and customer service. They always apologized and finally said they would give me a $300 refund. As of today, after two more emails to the salesman and customer, I have not received that refund.

Empire totally came through. I am beyond happy with the outcome of this situation. Our new floor is beautiful and functional for our living situation. Thanks Empire Today!

    Original Review: Aug. 8, 2012

We called Empire Today about a year ago (summer 2011). The salesman came out and I told him that I had rescue dogs and they had "issues" and that is why I had to get rid of my carpet. He said he understood and showed me some floors. I said I wanted hardwood floors and he advised against it because it would scratch. He said I should get this wonderful laminate product. I asked if this could withstand my "issues" and he put the laminate under my faucet under running water and said "yes, even if it sat for eight or more hours, it would be okay."

Well, guess what? It isn't okay. I called about 3 months ago and said that the floor was coming apart at the seams and they sent some guys out to look at it. They said, "it's urine." I said, "Yeah, I have rescue dogs and that is what they do." I said, "That is what I told the guy who came to my house and he told me it would be okay. He told me this was the floor that would best withstand my dog issues." The floor is coming apart at the seams and is also wrong for the shininess and shows every footprint, not to mention the noise when the dogs walk.

The company agreed when we complained, said we should have been sold tile floor, said they would make it right. That was two months ago. We call daily and leave messages. They don't respond and they don't care. This company is cold-blooded and they don't give a crap who they lie to. My advice to anyone thinking about hiring them, call me. Please don't call them. Call me first.

Rip-off! Do not use this company. I had a rep to come out and give an estimate. They told me that in order to hold the quote price, they would need a $50 deposit, in which I had 72 hours to cancel. I called the rep the very next morning (before the bank opened) and told him to make sure that he did not cash the check because I had another company coming to give me an estimate. He said that he had the check in his hand was would rip it up. He "immediately" called back and stated that he had to deposit the check. I called and talked to a supervisor and superiors. They all talked nonsense. It is amazing that they would risk their reputation over $50. But what they failed to realize is that you can't cash a check that has been cancelled. Do not be misled by their advertisements!

There starts my many calls to the GM customer service because he never returned my calls. After two set up appointments when they could come and replace my floor, I got the call saying the floor is not in. The second call, the GM didn't even have enough balls to call me himself. He put it on an appointment setter. I must also mention that they called me the same day I was thinking they were coming over, at 8:30AM, after moving everything in the kitchen to say the tile is not in. To make a long story short, I had Empire install carpeting in three rooms of our house. I talked with the salesman about the pathway from the kitchen, through the dining room to the living room - the upgraded padding to the very best. One year later, after vacuuming weekly and having it cleaned once (carpet cleaning company said it was worn and cleaning would not change it), I called and had Empire come out to look at the carpeting. The inspector spoke Polish (which I found out later). He proceeded to pull out at least 10 strands of carpet. Over a week later, I received a standard letter saying it is normal wear. I called and talked with Empire and was told if I did not like what the inspector found, I could hire an inspector of my own.

After being transferred to a supervisor, he was nice enough to get back to me and told me that they would send out one at their cost. A week later, a very young man came with two tool boxes to look at it. He used my vacuum and never opened his cases. He asked me who from Empire was here. He was in and out of my house in 15 minutes! A week and a half later, I got the same letter - normal wear for carpet! My last carpeting was in for over 15 years and never had such bad wear marks. I will be tearing it out and would never ever suggest Empire Today to anyone! I will also be telling my fellow employees (I work at a major health care provider) to never use them!

Unsatisfactory service and failure to reimburse for damages - Last fall (2011), I ordered carpet for six rooms, a hallway, and a stairway. The carpet was scheduled to be installed on two separate weekends last November. Seven months later, the problems I experienced with the carpet installation are still not resolved. No customer deserves to encounter the problems I experienced with Empire. The carpet was not installed correctly. Empire's carpet installers installed the wrong carpet, left clumps of padding under the carpet creating visible bumps in the carpet, did not match the padding pieces together properly, leaving large dips in the carpet. They left one of the closet doors unhinged so the doors fell on me when I tried to open them. They broke the hinges on the other closet doors. They came to my home without the sealant or rollers required to do their job and required me to take their installer to Lowe's to purchase the sealant and roller.

They demanded that I pay the installer $100 on the side for putting on the sealant and did not install the sealant across the entire floor. They incorrectly installed the carpet on the stairs, chipped the marble on my fireplace when removing the old carpet, and did not arrive at the times when they were scheduled on either of the first two weekends. After promising me, I would be reimbursed for the multiple moving costs, the broken doors, the damage to my fireplace and the hours of time lost, Empire's corporate customer service manager refused to pay me the amount the local customer service representative and district manager agreed in writing to reimburse me.

The specific details are as follows: Last November, I arranged for the first floor carpet to be installed on Saturday afternoon. I scheduled an afternoon time so that I could have the furniture moved out of the dining room, living room and office areas. I received numerous calls and emails about the installation for days before the carpet was scheduled to be installed, asking me to confirm the times, despite having already scheduled the installation for a specified time. On the first Saturday morning starting at 7:45 am, the installer called to tell me he was on his way to my home. I told them he was scheduled to come in the afternoon and he could not install the carpet until the furniture was moved. He said he could not come in the afternoon. After numerous calls and a ton of frustration, the district manager and sales representative finally convinced the installers they had to come in the afternoon.

When the installers arrived, they did not have sealant for the floors so I had to take the installer in my own car to get sealant and a roller which I had to pay for myself. Even after buying the sealant, the installers only put it on in spots, not over the entire floor, and then proceeded to install the carpet before the sealant dried. The installer told me I needed to pay him separately for putting on the sealant, asking for $100 for putting on the sealant even though I already had arranged for full payment of the carpet installation. In the process of pulling up the old carpet, the installers chipped the marble in my fireplace. When the installers were done installing the carpet, there was a large bump in the carpet in the office and the wrong carpet had been installed (the wrong color and style).

After bringing these issues to the attention of Empire's local customer service representative, she assured me that the next weekend when the upstairs carpet was to be installed, the installers would come at the scheduled time in the afternoon, they would have the sealant and equipment they needed, and that Empire would send their very best installers. She also assured me they would correct the problems with the carpet already installed.

On the second Saturday morning, the installers again called me at 8 am to tell me they were on their way to install the carpet. I explained that they could not start until the afternoon because the movers were moving the furniture out of three bedrooms. I reminded them that they were scheduled to arrive at 1 in the afternoon. The installers told me that they could not complete the job if they came that late in the day. Again, after calls to the district manager, the installers arranged to come at the scheduled time in the afternoon. Interestingly, they finished their job by 3:30 pm, having no difficulty completing it before the end of the day.

When they arrived, no one spoke English. They rushed through the job and had it done in less than 3 hours. Once again, they installed the wrong carpet. There were dips under the carpet in several locations where they did not take the time to match up sections of the padding. When walking on the carpet, there were several indents that could be felt even with shoes on as you walked. The installers removed three closet doors. They broke the hinges on the hall door but put the door back in place as if it were hinged. When I went to open it, the door fell on me. The closet door in the bedroom was not reinstalled at all because the hinges were broken off. New hinges had to be purchased to reinstall the door.

After complaining about these problems, two people from customer service came to my home to inspect the carpet installation. They assured me the problems would be resolved. They suggested the bump in the floor was simply the padding expanding. They told me the installer should have had the sealant and equipment with him, that he should not have asked me to purchase it and that he should not have requested separate payment. I was assured he was no longer with the company which was confusing. Was he an employee of the company or an independent contractor? Interestingly, the salesperson who sold me the carpet and the installers all work for Empire, hold themselves out as representatives of Empire, use Empire forms, wear Empire badges, have their time scheduled by Empire, are paid by Empire, are under the direction and control of Empire, can be fired by Empire, and hold themselves out as Empire employees; yet, they are considered independent contractors. This would be a good company for the Department of Labor, the IRS, as well as the comparable state agencies in Oregon and Illinois to audit.

Empire assured me they would send out another expert installer, their very best installer who could correct the problem with the dips and bumps in the carpet. They would pay me for the sealant and supplies and they would pay to have my fireplace repaired, instructing me to have me get estimates for the cost of repair. They also would pay for the cost of paying movers to move the furniture again so that the necessary repairs could be made. This meeting with Empire representatives took place during the week, requiring me to take time off work. The representatives confirmed that the wrong carpet had been installed and agreed to install the correct carpet.

Again, I arranged for all the upstairs furniture to me moved in preparation for the third installer who again came on a Saturday. I spent hours moving personal items so the furniture could be moved. When the third installer arrived at my home, he observed the problems and confirmed that none of the carpet had been properly installed. He indicated he could not fix the problems with the upstairs carpet without removing and replacing all the carpet because the padding had not been installed correctly. He did not have carpet to install that day because he was told he could simply come in and fix the dips and bumps in the carpet.

So, all the time and money invested in moving the furniture this third time was wasted as he could not fix the carpet without removing and replacing all of it. In the office, he found a wad of padding in the location where there was a visible bump in the carpet. He found that the sealant had not been put on correctly in any of the rooms. He also noticed that the carpet had not been correctly installed on the stairs. Another full day of my time was lost because he could not fix the problems he encountered. All the items I had boxed up so the furniture could be moved had to be unpacked so the bedrooms and office could be used. Once again, I had to pay the movers to move all the furniture back in place. If there is any doubt that all this happened, the movers can validate it all: the same movers moved the furniture five times. Customer service again came out to my home for another meeting so the correct carpet could be selected and installed. Customer service verified that the correct color and style of carpet had not been installed in any of the rooms. Two more weekend dates were set up to reinstall the carpets.

In January, two more weekends were set aside to reinstall all the carpet on both floors. Again, movers were paid to move all the furniture upstairs and downstairs and I spent hours boxing up books, dishes, and personal items so the furniture could be moved. Two more weekends of time were lost. But finally, the carpet was installed correctly. Customer service assured me that I would be reimbursed for the cost of the movers who repeatedly moved all the furniture three extra times. The local customer service representatives informed me they could not match the marble on the fireplace that had been damaged by the installers but told me to get an estimate for repairing the damage to the fireplace and assured me that I would be paid for the cost of repairing the fireplace after I gave them an estimate.

Customer service assured me that I would be made whole in every way for the hours and hours of time and frustration I experienced in this ordeal. The email communications with the local customer service representative and her district manager confirmed Empire would pay me $2,500 to compensate me for the damages. Weeks passed and I was repeatedly assured by email that it was just a matter of time until I would receive a check. But the check never arrived and still has not arrived. After waiting for over a month for the $2,500 payment promised to me by the customer service representative and the district manager for the damages caused by Empires carpet installers, I received an email stating that I could only be reimbursed for my losses if I signed a settlement agreement agreeing not to defame Empire, agreeing that I was bound by Illinois law even though the work was done in Oregon and including equally inappropriate terms.

Empire had one employee in this whole ordeal that was honorable, honest, and tried her best to right the wrongs that Empire committed. That person was the local customer service representative. She did her job to the very best of her ability, she met her commitments, she acted honorably, and she tried her best to provide excellent customer service, only to find out that the company would not stand behind her word. If all of the employees of Empire did their job like the local customer service representative, Empire would live up to its motto and the representations about excellent customer service that it makes in its advertisements and on Empire's website.

No customer deserves to encounter the problems I experienced with Empire. I would not wish this nightmare on anyone. Empire caused damage to me and my home that they witnessed, documented in pictures and acknowledged in their emails. They agreed on a dollar amount to reimburse me for the loss and now they refuse to honor their agreement.

After seeing the commercials for years, I decided to give Empire a call. What a Joke! Apart from completely missing my scheduled in-home estimate (the salesman was a no-show), the whole experience was crazy. When the salesman eventually showed the following day for another attempt, he was unapologetic and very rude. Not only that, but he smelled like a bear and lied through his teeth. How do I know he was a liar? Let me explain.

He was peddling what he called solid hardwood but it was actually nothing more than engineered wood planks (a sliver of real wood pressed unto plyboard). Anyone who's in the market for hardwood would know he's full of garbage but he persisted. Granted, engineered wood is actually very nice, but it certainly isn't solid hardwood and it shouldn't be advertised, sold or peddled as such. The salesman continued. Keep in mind, a major Home Improvement chain already bid the job at around $5,000 including installation (solid, .75 inch wood planks). Empire wanted $15,000 for the same job (using the engineered product). That's over $35.00 per SF! Are you kidding or just high? What a total waste on my incredibly valuable time.

Our experience with Empire comes with extreme praise for a job well done. My husband and I are very picky and were dreading getting the floor done, as in the past, we have had nightmare experiences with carpet/floor installation. They called the day before to set up a time, and on the day of installation, they were actually early. The crew that was sent got to work immediately. They removed all the furniture and then began tearing up the old carpet and padding. Within a very short time, I was able to see our new flooring appear. Four hours later, I had a new laminate floor in the great room, dining room, entry way, hall, and closets.

This crew was very courteous and professional. They left absolutely no mess for us to clean up. Best of all, they did no damage. We were anxious that walls or trim would get damaged. Not at all. We would highly recommend Empire Today to our friends and neighbors, as our experience was highly favorable. Thank you, Empire Today for a job well done.

I believe I received the best price available for the carpet that I ordered. Everything went extremely well. On Sunday, I went to this website and started reading all of the bad reports on this company. I became worried. The biggest selling point for the company was the A+ rating with the BBB. I called my agent and he reassured me that this was only 1 % of the customers that were complaining.

On Monday morning, they arrived a little late, but it was understandable since they were coming in from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The installer was extremely knowledgeable and he immediately showed me that the carpet was the correct carpet. Based on what I had read, I was worried. The only problem was that I had originally secured the pad with pet protection. It was not written on the invoice, but after some brief discussion with Empire’s customer service, dispatch and sales, a remedy was sought and agreed upon. Everyone worked well with each other and I was surprised, based on what I had read, how everything worked out so well. The installation was awesome. I would recommend this company to anyone. The Empire Today is run by incompetent fools. The woman who did the measurements for our family room did it wrong. On June 9, 2012, Saturday, when the carpet was installed, it came to light that there was not enough material for a job. The warehouse was closed. Only the padding was installed on Saturday. The trip to warehouse is two hours away from our house. They are in San Francisco so there was no help there. Today, Monday, the delivery was to be in the morning (by 11:00 am). No show, so far.

After I called and talked to two people for over 30 minutes, I was told that they will be here after 3:00 pm, before 6:00 pm. I wanted to speak with the supervisor, but was told I can't do that. I asked the supervisor's name and was told that they will not give names for anybody. This sounds like in some communist country where questions can't be asked of responsible people. After arguing with me about the horrid way they do business, one finally came on the phone. All the people I spoke with are not from this country. So their company is run by foreigners, as I can see it. Their way to run it is like in the third world country. No names, loose scheduling, people in the company's names will not be given to client when trouble arises. Another thing is that nobody is responsible for any mistakes made. How maddening is that? They readily accepted my cash of $800 for the down payment without a problem.

But now that the service is needed, nothing so far. What makes this so irksome is the fact that my husband is off three days for us to put the house back together. Since today is his last day off, nothing is going to work like we planned. No carpet so far, the house is a mess with all the furniture in the other rooms, jam-packed everywhere. And we are expecting a relative from San Diego in a few days. People, if you need carpets and on schedule, do not use Empire Today. The quality they show is nothing to hurrah about either. This is cheap, loosely run enterprise, run by fools at the helms (if there is anybody at the helms).

I was told our old tile and sub-floor would be taken up and new sub-floor put down prior to vinyl installation in our kitchen. When I saw they were gluing the vinyl right over the old floor, I immediately called the installation coordinator, who called me back and told me they let the experts decide what to do when they get there. Well, the experts (the installers) already had their marching orders when they got to my house because they showed me their papers, and it said nothing about taking up the old tile and putting down new sub-flooring. They were told to put the vinyl right over the old floor.

So when I called to complain that we were charged for work we did not have done, they promised me a $210 credit, which I never received. I am still attempting to get that as I placed another call today. They also promised me a call from the sales manager, which I never received, and I called back a second time, but he's never called me back. They also took a huge piece of vinyl with them when they left, which I'm assuming we paid for. My husband didn't want to use them for the kitchen. He thought it was way too much, and the salesman was measuring the kitchen at almost doubled the actual square footage. Then they took the leftover material with them. I'm guessing so they can then sell it to another customer and get paid twice for the same piece of vinyl.

I also had carpeting put in my family room, stairs and upstairs hallway. Tim, the salesman, told me they do not put thick padding under Berber carpeting. Well, it's more like no padding! I had Berber before this, and the padding was much better. We also have Berber in one of our bedrooms, and you can tell the difference from the hallway carpeting to that bedroom. It's much higher and softer to walk on. I really, really wish I had read the reviews before I dealt with Empire. People warned me against them, but I didn't listen. Do not deal with Empire. I'm 63 years old, and they are the biggest rip-off company I've ever had the unfortunate experience of dealing with.

I called to take advantage of this deal. My kitchen is the largest room, so that is the room I paid for. Then I was to get 2 rooms carpeted for free! Wrong. Of course, the "free" carpet is the lower grade, so I paid to upgrade the carpet. When the installers came out, I noticed right away it was the lower grade, nice try there Empire on the bait and switch! So along with the installers came a supervisor and when he overheard me talking to them about the carpet, he went in my house and lifted up a small piece of my old carpeting and started taking pictures and claiming I had asbestos and told the installers not to install the new carpet. After speaking to the EPA, I was informed pictures prove nothing and a sample would have to be sent to the lab for testing to confirm.

So here is where I'm at after speaking to countless reps and managers at Empire, I'm without my "free" carpet. But boy did I get suckered on this one. My kitchen flooring cost over $4,000! Empire will not hold up their end of the bargain, which was to give me the free carpet. Plus, they will not discount the cost of the kitchen floor to help offset the cost. I only agreed to have the flooring installed because of their deal, otherwise, I either would have gone with another company or just waited longer to have new flooring. The sales rep is guilty of not providing full disclosure when he came to my house for the free estimate. Of course, his goal was to make the sale. But he mentioned my kitchen may (never tested or confirmed) have asbestos and that is why they laid the new floor directly on the old flooring. But he made no mention that my carpeted areas may also have it. Had he done so, I would of course cancel out right then and there!

Google the names of the sales manager and the self-proclaimed VP of customer service, and dozens of complaints come up. I have a customer satisfaction issue that they are not willing to budge on, and it is extremely disappointing as I relied on their #1 sales rep to provide me with the guidance and vision to select the right color for my flooring. The said rep has not returned a single call from me. His suggestion was wrong, I'm stuck with a $7K bill, and no one at Empire cares.

The VP of Customer Service, and supposed front line to the owner of Empire Today's (whom I asked to speak with but was told "no"). Linked In profile reads: Sr. Regional CS Manager at Empire Today, LLC. The last I knew, "Regional" is not all encompassing, nor is it a Vice President. I spoke with the BBB today, and their opinion is as follows: In that, I relied on their expertise and professional experience to make my decision, I have a reasonable complaint to file with them. I'm doing so now.

I met with the salesperson on July 22, 2011. I had carpet installed. On 1/26/2012, Chuck came to inspect the carpet as I am not happy with the way that the carpet is wearing. The carpet is only 6 months old and it looks terrible. The pile is smashed down where people sit on the floor and after vacuuming the carpet, it does not come back up. Chuck informed me that the manufacturer could find nothing wrong and that I needed to have my carpets professionally cleaned every six months. He then told me that a sales representative would call me. That was on 2/1/12. I did not hear from anyone and called Chuck on 2/13/2012 who told me that the person had twins and that is why I did not hear from anyone.

On 2/13/2012, Jeff ** called and told me he would have customer service call me. So far, no one has called. At this point, I would never recommend Empire to anyone. I am in Real Estate and advise my sellers when they need to update carpeting. I could not, in good conscious, recommend this company to anyone. This is such cheap carpeting and had I been told by the salesperson that my carpet would look like this in less than six months, I never would have purchased it. I don't know of anyone that would professionally clean their carpet two times a year. When Chuck was here and did testing, he could not find dirt on the carpet. We don't wear shoes in the house nor do we eat in the family room. My next step is the BBB.

They started off 5 hours late! Not only did Empire short our carpet an inch and refuse to fix it correctly, they also scratched the brand new kitchen cabinets and brand new hard wood kitchen floor and would not compensate for the damages. The installers were rude and even argued about where to put the furniture. When I tried to get it fixed I was treated very poorly and screamed at over the phone. And instead of compensating us for our shorted carpet, they were going to fix it by coming to our house, ripping it up, and putting a seam down the middle of two rooms! Very unhappy.

We called Empire to purchase a new floor to replace the carpet in our DR/LR and Hallway. We have a concrete subfloor (the house is on a slab). The salesman came and showed us options and we picked a vinyl floor that looked like stone (multicolor). The floor was installed a few weeks later (Saturday) by (4) gentlemen only (1) spoke English. They were there all day and had said that they had another job after ours! They did a rush job which resulted in a visible seem bet the DR/LR, bubbles in various locations, they scrapped the floor all down the hallway with a 2X4 that they used to smooth the floor (which they should have used a roller of some kind), there are tears in the flooring under different areas where the furniture sits (which should not happen, as the salesman told us would not happen).

We contacted Empire in January and told them (we have a 1 year warranty) and they sent a representative to review everything and they then sent the same salesman again. We picked a different product because this product was not what was promised or did it meet our agreement when we signed the contract! Empire said we would have to pay an additional $4,000.00 for the floor (wood laminated) so we opted to have them reinstall the original floor and do it right this time. The installer came and said that they cannot install that floor onto a concrete slab and gave me better options.

In between, all this phone calls are taking place and the customer service representatives are very nonchalant and rude and I'm getting nowhere. A salesman comes by again last week and I choose another floor which is compatible with the concrete slab and then I get a call that I have to pay $4,000.00 more. This is completely ridiculous and I told them on the phone that I am going to take them to court now because they is not how they should treat a customer who paid in full on a floor that should never have been sold to me in the first place.

Empire Today is not monitoring its territories, its salespeople need training, their CSR need training in people skills and they need to honor their agreement and treat the customer with respect and professionalism.

We had a hardwood floor installed in March 2011. When the Empire salesperson came to our home to show us the different types of flooring, we specifically asked the salesperson numerous times for a floor that would withstand our lifestyle. We have two children under the age of 4 and had to replace our carpeting because our children were both allergic to it. The Empire salesperson informed us that pre-engineered hardwood was much stronger and durable than hardwood. After only a few weeks of the floor being installed there were numerous problems that arose; the floor in front of our refrigerator came up. They came and fixed that with no problems. We then noticed indentations underneath the feet of our furniture, which obviously never move from those locations.

We were initially trying to resolve the issue with Empire directly for which we were unfortunately unsuccessful. The last time Empire was here to evaluate the floor and have a third party inspector determine the outcome they took pictures and evaluated our home. Empire then followed up with us by saying that they would no longer fix the floor unless we paid for it ourselves because the dents are happening from objects that we have in our home.

So our concern is that we can no longer sit on our couches or move our furniture because our floor is getting destroyed. We have never heard of something so ridiculous in our lives, especially because we specifically asked for a hardwood floor that would be appropriate for our lifestyle and be able to last. We are additionally concerned with what the floor will look like in years to come. Additionally, when the time comes to sell our home we are concerned we will have to replace the flooring, causing us essentially double the costs. If the floor is not strong enough to hold the weight of people sitting on our couch or static furniture, then the floor has must have a defect and we would like it replaced. If we ever decide to get a new couch we can never leave that space without something to cover that damage. This floor is not even a year old yet and should not look like it is 5-10 years old. I was sold a floor that is not durable.

Below is the information we have acquired from Empire when trying to resolve the issue with them directly for which we were unfortunately unsuccessful. We would like to have this issue resolved and a positive outcome.

    Desired settlement: replacement.

Product or service: Visions II hardwood.

I purchased luxury vinyl tile for a large bedroom, vanity area, walk in closet and 2 bathrooms. I was quoted an "out the door" finished price and the installers were to come between 0800 and 1600. They showed up at 1530. They pulled up the existing carpeting, but then claimed they did not have the wax seals to replace the 2 toilets. My husband had to go to Home Depot and purchase these. They then asked us if we would keep their beer cold in our refrigerator. They did not come with the floor pieces that go into doorways, so there is still nothing in this area.

They were at my home until 2330. They left my shower and sinks filthy, one of the toilets now leaks, there are gouges in my walls from where they moved my furniture, tiles are lifting and there are spaces between the tiles when they should be flushed. I was assured by the salesperson, Theresa ***, that the crew were experienced, professional installers who worked for the company for many years. Instead, I received a contract labor from Diamond Flooring. I have made numerous phone calls to Empire's customer service to no avail. I had to hire a plumber to repair the leaking toilet. I will have to purchase paint to repair the gashes in the walls. There are areas around my home that are covered in tile glue and I can't get that off.

Following a leak into my downstairs neighbors' unit, it was determined (by 2 plumbers) that the shower stall Empire Today installed four and a half years ago was installed very poorly and the shower pan was sinking around the drain, breaking the seal and thus causing the leak. The pan needs to be re-installed or another pan installed. My insurance company talked to them. I put in a service request on 10/26/11 and was told someone would contact me within 1-3 business days. No one did. I called again on Oct. 31, and the earliest day a plumber would come, their employee said, was Friday, Nov. 3. The appointment was made for 2 PM.

Today, Nov. 3, their plumber called before 8 am to tell me the person who was supposed to come "had a family emergency" and could only come Sat. Nov. 4 in the morning. I refused; I received another call again a few minutes later, just before 8 AM, and was told that someone was on his way and would arrive at 9 am. 20 mins later, their plumber called again, saying the #5 Freeway was very slow, and he would be late. When I told him he messed up my day, he told me I "messed up his day too". Somehow, 2 hours later, no one has showed up and I very much doubt that I will see today a plumber from Empire Today. The shower stall was not installed according to professional standards and Empire Today is failing to fulfill their responsibilities. I already had a leak problem right after they installed the shower in May 2007.

I asked for the square footage he came up with and he stated 1901 sq. ft. My whole house is only 1440 sq ft and the area I want carpeted is only 900 sq ft. I am guessing, because I was a female, he thought I was stupid and would agree to it. He was pushing for me to sign off on the paperwork and have the carpet installed the next day; and this is after I had stressed several times that I would not be ready to have it installed for at least 3 weeks and I would have to speak with my husband. He then contacted someone and said once again if I could have the carpet installed next day then they could get the price down to $8500. Once again I explained I could not do that. He caught an even bigger attitude and gathered his things and left.

Upon watching numerous advertisements for Empire Today, "Buy one room get two free," as well as no finance charges for the duration of the year's purchase if you open up a credit card, my family and I decided on June 21, 2011 to contact Empire Today to make an appointment for wood floors in my mother's home. The appointment was scheduled for June 22, 2011 between 8AM-10AM. Once 10AM came and went and the sales representative for the company did not show, I re-contacted Empire Today to find out the estimated arrival time of the sales representative. I also spoke with the manager of the representative, namely Joe, since Empire Floors had him contact us directly. He explained that she was running late, that he would take off an additional $250.00 if I kept the appointment; and he also apologized all over the place. He further indicated that she should be there no later than 2PM.

At 3:30PM, the representative finally arrived. It was then that my family and I began to suspect that this company may be unprofessional and possibly shady. We indicated to the representative, namely Arsan **, that we were only interested in wood floors. Several hours later, we settled on what we thought were wood floors. Arsan stated and re-stated that they were wood, both verbally and in writing. She measured our home to be 612 square feet, but we could not afford the entire 612 square feet, so we settled on just the downstairs. She showed us many wood floors that she alleged were wood and we picked out Simply Living Century Oak. We had no idea that these wood floors that she quoted were actually laminated.

To our surprise the following Saturday, the installer called and indicated that they were laminated. We immediately canceled the order. Once again, Joe contacted my family and told us he would give us an unbelievable deal if we took the laminate. He stated, "My guys are half way out to you and I want to make you happy". I tried to make a deal with him to give us the floors for half off with the additional square feet that we could not afford, and he flatly refused. He stated, "I was trying to be nice". We were satisfied that he did not agree because we had originally wanted wood floors and not the laminated ones. Besides, we had the original contract which stated the opposite, with a specific quote of $4,454.16. I tried to get the company to give us the deal that they originally offered for the wood flooring, but the representative, Ms. Helen ** at corporate, was unresponsive, rude and unprofessional.

Ms. ** never gave me an opportunity to explain our situation and what we demanded. We were clearly in the right, and this company was in the wrong and should fix it. The regional manager of Empire Floors was worse. Tim S. was argumentative, combative and unprofessional. He flatly refused to give us the wood floors for the price that was stated in the original contract and laughed at giving us the additional square footage, stating that we'd have to pay well-over 6 thousand dollars. This is clearly fraud. This company lied, baited, bungled, heisted and flimflammed my entire family into believing that they would say what they meant and meant what they said, even though it was a mistake. I have this quote in their writing and on their letterhead; and now, they refuse to give me hardwood floors at the price that they originally stated.

If a sales representative comes to your home representing a certain company and alleges that they are selling you wood, how are you supposed to know it is not wood? How is this error your fault? If I go to a supermarket, and it is advertised at a specific price that they have to give it to me, what is the difference in this case? I wasn't worried because I had the proof in writing; but now, they won't honor what was written as per their own contract because Joe, Ms. Helen **, and Tim S. all stated to my elderly mother that Ms. Arsan ** made a mistake. According to Tim S., "Simply Living Century Oak is a laminate and not a hardwood". However, according to both pages of the contract, the representative checked HW and wrote that it is a hardwood.

Empire Today is using false advertisement to obtain entry into the consumers home to sell their merchandise, and this is what was told to me by their sales representative. This is what he said, "This is just a way for us to get entry into your home." There were other contractors in my home doing other work, and they could not believe that their representative said such a thing. He was also very pushy and very impatient, not allowing me the consumer time to think about my decision.

The commercial that Empire Today is advertising is very misleading to the customer, and it is on national television. This is a disgrace. And I do not think that it is fair to the consumer. The advertisement that is on national television only says it is on selected brands, it does not tell you that the padding or installation is not covered. I would like to know why this type of behavior is allowed. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau to advise them of the false advertisement, and how I felt rushed by the sales representative to make a decision. I cancelled my order because of the service that I received from the sales representative and his manager.

He called the boss and came down to $3500 for a natural oak (light color), imagine not high quality like the Brazilian. Installers came, I paid the balance upfront with cashier's check. I was not sure about how it looked but went ahead. The roofing man came down into the house, saw the floor and said, "Oh, that's the cheapest laminate there is." He had installed in his house a year ago and had to pull it up because it was coming apart.

I called Empire and complained; they were not very helpful. They gave me a # for the office in Raleigh. I left voice mail for Mr. **, then called back and they said he would return my call at his "convenience." That's not good to hear. Anyway, I got his email and sent in writing my complaint because that same day, it was installed already and edges were coming up. The area looks so tight it's bubbled up. The molding was not finished, adhesive was on floor ... So, I sent an email again with pictures to him and headquarters. He sent his installers back, with 5 boxes to replace and fix.

Installers took pictures; I told them the installation was poor, unfinished. They had been in a hurry to see another client and they explained what happened with their job. They started telling me that once they started removing flooring, the way it's made, all of it would have to be replaced, the whole floor, that they didn't bring enough for that. I called the boss. He couldn't come at that time. The installers told me that, in reality, nothing was wrong with the installation, that it was the material, cheap, low quality, that several jobs have had floor replaced 3-4 times.

Well, that really made me very upset ... They left to get the boss to approve more supplies and I have not heard from them. They came on a Tuesday. On Saturday, I sent Mr. ** an email stating that based on problem with floor/installation, I had decided I did not want it in my house any longer, to take it up and refund my $3500. He came back with "no refund", that we needed to discuss fixing what I thought was wrong with it via phone. I emailed him that I wanted to discuss in writing and email would be okay. I explained to him that all I wanted was my monies' worth, a good quality product that if floor is sticking up now, imagine what it will be a month down road. He seemed to not believe it's true, and wanted me to approve an independent inspector to look at it and make a decision. His inspector? I don't know what to do.

I too had mutiple installers come out and had my kitchen floor & carpet installed and with in 4 days and did not receive the same discounts.

When I called Rons manager, Bill B. he told me well I see here Ron did give you a $150 discount for a coupon you didn't have, he just didn't tell you. Who does that? Does that really make a difference to me if your not gona tell me, sure you can tell me but I don't see it on my contract anywhere. I feel these are very much improper selling practices. And the prices are way off! Bill B. and Ron N. both told me they were going to see what kind of compensation they could offer me for this hassel and when they saw I got my carpet for less then my friends I have not been offered anything. I explained to Ron that I am very unhappy, this is unexceptable and he said he agreed. But he never once called me to see if things were finished or how things were going, I always had to call him. He got his commission thats all they care about.

Now I am stuck with a half finished carpet! So when I explained to Ron the salesman that if they don't finish this carpet by a certain day they can take it back he told me "to go for it". Tuesday they final installed carpet but I am still trying to resolve the issue with the installation of the carpet. took them three days to get back out to finish. When they finished we had 4 seams in a 4 by 4 piece of carpet in a 14x15 sq. room. Could see all the seams, gaps, had a bald patch in one section. It was like patch work. We called and they sent an installation coordinator out to inspect. He agreed it was not acceptable and suggested they redo in one piece section with one seam.

Sam M. called me and explained they would redo but they would have to redo whole room because of color differences. So we set up day and I requested different installers to come to fix. When they finished there is one seam now, and you can see the seam running from one wall to the other. And the 4x4 piece is dark and the rest of the room is light. They installed in opposite directions. They ask you to look at when they are done. What do I have to do, watch them do their job while Empire charges me $1050 for the installation?

I immediately called Helen B., (she has been aware of situation from start) and she said she would make some calls. Now I have to wait for another inspector to come out to inspect this job. And then wait again for them to fix it. This is 2nd time and 2nd set of installers and 2weeks to do one bedroom. This is unacceptable! In the meantime, I cant put anything back in my bedroom, and I had to waste my whole week vacation waiting for them to finish this SIMPLE JOB that still isnt corrected and they can't tell me when it will be corrected. This is unacceptable. What is the problem here, I could have done this my self.

They sent another inspector out on August 15 for a second time and that inspector/installer confirmed that it was a "horrible" job because the 14X4 section did not match the other section of carpet direction which in turn did not hide the seam. (which basically means it is was laid the wrong way) As professionals that seam should be invisible to me as the consumer. A job for one room has taking two weeks as of today, and this will be 3 times to hopefully get it right. That is absolutely ridiculous. We are not satisfied. We have had to be inconvienced, annoyed, ignored when we were told people would call back and they don't, waited on hold, the salesman just wanted your sale, and then could care less what happend to you after, and waited for installers to show who never did.

I am sorry that we didn't go with another company. We planned on having much more work done, but after this experience we have reconsidered. And then after all this and two weeks of their mistakes and many, many phone calls they want to compensate us with $150 credit. We spent $3150 total! After all there mistakes, and having to deal with hassle and stress, and time lost because they couldn't do their job right the first time, they compensated us with a $150 credit. That was probably that $150 dollars that Ron never told me about from day one I guess I finally got it. What a slap in the face, how insulting. Thats how minimizing they feel this situation was.

So basically they can screw up many, many times and just get away with it. Empire says they strive for customer satisfaction, this is one unsatisfied customer. Many people will know and have already been made aware of this company and how they do business. This is not the way you compensate a customer especially when they screwed up not once but 3 times! I am now left with $3100 dollar bill for a job that was a just a horrible experience, and we were left with no care instruction packet like our kitchen floor. I have worked in customer service and was trained that the customer is ALWAYS right and in this situation they made me feel as if I was just another number, just another carpet going in. No quality control! I was very insulted to be offered a credit of $150 for the hassle they "May Have Caused Me".

I have noted everything that has happened during this ordeal. We have been nothing but stressed, upset, and we made that very clear when we called each and every single time. And Empire allowed a full week to pass before someone called to see if the carpet was finally finished with quality and correctly the third time considering the situation. They just made us feel they just didn't care. And that was clear when that carpet went in and no one called, not even the installation manager like I said after all our issues. We work hard for our money $3100 is a lot when you are trying to save for a wedding, and you just bought a house that your trying to fix up. We try to make better and then we get slapped with oh here how about $150.

June 9,and of 2007 Had Empire Today install carpet and padding throughout the entire upstairs living area of our home.

    Order # YDO2952 4 BRMS/BONUSROOM?HALL/STAIRS, Color (Tempting) 12.0x158.0) yards 6LB BKDMND 7/16 Padding: 200.6 yards.

Upon arrival at our home, we noticed the crew which was sent consisted of what appeared to be a family. Only one male spoke English, 2 of the crew appeared to be minors. I telephoned Steven Colonna and stopped the work until I could verify the age of the workers and why such a small group had been sent when he promised to send his best crew and complete the job in one day.

I had great apprehension with allowing minors into my home to work, ie.. lawsuit if one were to be injured on the job.

Only 4 or 5 people were on site, they had to move all my furniture, lay carpet and padding and replace the furniture in one day. Mr. Colonna accused me of "Having a problem with women working". I took great offense with his statement and told him so. He went on to argue with me. I was given his word that the crew was :His BEST CREW" and no one was underage, and the job would be done in a day. I asked for 2 days, due to the heat and the amount of work. But was assured one day was enough. I did contact Empire Today and notify them at there corporate office of Mr. Colonna's accusations and was then contacted by Mr. Zavondny. He came to our home and apologized and in a good faith effort took $1,000.00 off the $7,000.00 purchase price.

Since the day the carpet was laid until today May 1, 2008, the carpet has shed.

We have purchased a $700.00 Oreck vacum in addition to the Oreck we already own due to having it in for repair. It continues to become clogged and the belt burns up from so much carpet shedding from each time we clean the upstairs carpet. We have tile downstairs.

We have contacted Empire Today with this problem at 1-800-588-2300, we have emailed and telephoned Mr. Zavondny numerous times. We have allowed Service Master to come and clean our carpet in good faith on our part, because we were told that would cease the shedding. It did not.

I signed a contract with Empire Today on February 3, 2006 to have carpet installed in my new home. On February 6, 2006 subcontractors hired by Empire Today ruined my home. They were to install carpeting in 4 bedrooms, a hallway and a flight of stairs. They slashed baseboards in each bedroom, cut cable wires in all bedrooms, ripped wallpaper off of the walls, 2 bedrooms did not have padding installed underneath the carpet and the other 2 bedrooms did not have the carpet tacked to the floor.

Per Empire's Notice of Cancellation I signed the Notice within 3 business days on February 7, 2006. I called and instructed Empire Today to come and remove the product from my house. For a period of two weeks 4 separate subcontractors came to my house and tried to fix the issues with the carpet, the problems with my wallpaper, baseboards and cable wires were never addressed. The fourth set of subcontractors said that there was nothing they could do to fix the problem and that the job that was done looked like an abortion.?

I put a stop payment on my American Express card immediately following this and called Empire again on February 13, 2007 and instructed them to remove the carpeting from my house pursuant to the Notice of Cancellation. I was told that they did not want to do that and they would not come out and get the carpet. American Express tried to contact Empire for 6 months with no response about the stop payment. Eventually, American Express stopped trying and dropped the charge from my bill.

Within the last 2 weeks I have received letters from Empire's Collections Department (Michelle Ramos-Jenkins) outlining that Empire will be putting a mechanics lien on my house for failure to pay. I have received two letters outlining that I am also going to be sent to creditors.

I have followed all appropriate protocol, signed the correct documents and made Empire's product available for them to retrieve within the 20 day guideline prescribed by the Notice of Cancellation. I do not know why Empire is resulting to harassing and bullying when I, the consumer have done nothing wrong.

When the installers came, one immediately used the bathroom, when he flushed the toilet it overflowed. He said nothing to us, we discovered it on our own and we had to clean it up,
The installers seemed to do a good job, not great or terrific. Along some of the baseboards seemed to be filled with fiber. I noticed this after they left and I vacuumed.

My phone line was cut, so the phones did not work. I had to wait over a week for the phone company to come and repair it.

Some major scratches on some furniture, gouge on chair. They did not take all of the old carpet, and took a leftover piece in which I wanted in case of anything happened in the future. They also propped the storm door open and it was not secured properly so it broke, that had to be fixed and replaced.

They unplugged the fish tank whick they did not plug it back in, all my fish died but one. It wasn't in the way it was on the hearth. I have not recieved a free gift either, we are expecting some sort of compensation.

Contracted for carpet & installation in two bedrooms, upstairs hall & stairs. Installation was completed 10/11. Due to business travel, it took several weeks before I registered a complaint about seams and color variance. They were a no show for the first appt. scheduled to happen between 8:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m. on 11/22.

Numerous calls later, two Empire supervisors viewed problems, agreed with my complaint, but said their word is not accepted and an outside independent inspection would be made since it was likely a "mill" problem. Inspection was done the morning of 12/9 by a Susan Krisha of Inspect Solutions of Zion, IL. On 12/16 I rec'd a letter (& copy of the report) denying my claim; stating the carpet and installation met industry standards with a person to contact w/questions. I tried reaching John Bell twice but spoke to a Dee Glatney instead who told me to do what I felt was necessary, but as far as they are concerned, the matter is closed and there is nothing further they can do.

The inspection report states there is peaking in the seams and color variance, but when doors are closed shutting off natural light from windows and skylight and artificial light is turned on - no color variance is visible making this an "acceptable" product and installation. Their claim is that the carpet is from the same roll/die lot - I completely disagree.

I called Empire Today originally because I wanted my carpet installed quickly and had seen their advertisements on television. The salesman, Jack, came to my house on August 3, 2005 and we signed a contract for carpet in the master bedroom, hallway, and stairway. The installer, Charles Jenkins and crew, came out on the following Wednesday to install the carpet. They were supposed to arrive in the afternoon. They called to say they would be there at 5:00 p.m. They arrived a little after 6:00 p.m.

I paid with a credit card and did not want to pay until the job was finished. The installers insisted I pay upfront or they would not begin work, so I agreed. They worked until 11:00 p.m. when they stopped, and informed me they had ran out of carpet and could not finish the stairway. They were to order more carpet and would call when they could come back. The only call I received was to my home answering machine the following day saying they were at my door and where was I.

I work and so does my husband. The instructions were very clear. Someone was to call me to reschedule. I called the main number and was told they had not ordered the carpet yet and it would take a week. My first question was why was Mr. Jenkins crew at my door the next day if they did not have the needed carpet. Putting that aside, I scheduled for the next Saturday so we I did not have to take anymore time off work for carpet installation. They were to arrive in the morning.

Dan Banks installation crew arrived at 2:20 p.m. They put carpet on the stair steps but did not have enough to do the stringers (something we had told the salesman and Charles Jenkins when they were here that was needed). So now it is the third day of installation, it is 10:30 a.m., and I just received a call that they will be here in an hour to finish the job. This is the third day I have sat around waiting for carpet installers on a job that was supposed to be a fast, easy job. I had requested an 8:00 a.m. installation today so as not to waste my entire Saturday waiting around and was promised we would be first. As it turns out, first means around 11:30 a.m.

I see several problems with Empire Todays handling of my situation. I called the local installers office three times after the second crew ran out of carpet asking for a manager to call me. I called the main Empire Today line and asked that Resolutions call me. I have never talked to a manager of any kind, although I have requested it several times.

There is also a huge problem when two different carpet experts measure and cannot get the measurements correct for such a small area. I would be more understanding if we were talking new construction and installing carpet in a large house. I had carpet installed in one bedroom, one very small upstairs hallway and one staircase.

There is no communications between the people answering the telephones and the installers and the managers (assuming they have a manager of any kind at either location the main office or the local installers office). I paid my $1,900 upfront on August 10, 2005 and here it is September 24, 2005, and I am still waiting for the job to be finished. I am still waiting for someone to call and talk to me regarding this situation.

I ordered laminate flooring for my bedroom about a month ago. In my bedroom there is a step (Arox. 4 x 4). It was explained to me that laminate flooring can not me installed on a step. The only thing they could do is put carpet. I agreed and picked out a color that I liked. That weekend the flooring was installed buy the installers said they were not in charge of carpeting. They said I should check with the company to set an appointment for the carpet. So I did. The flooring was installed on a saturday and they were supposed to come on monday to install the carpet. The installers showed up on Monday and when they saw what needed to be done they said it would look much nicer if I had laminate floor on the step. I told them I would love to have everything look the same but that it had been explained to me it wasn't possible.

The installers convinced me that it was and they would explain to the company what I wanted and everything would be in laminate. So I set up an appointment for the following weekend becaouse I work and the only time I was available to do this was a weekend. Nobody showed up the following weekend. Not even a call. I lost my entire day waiting for them. I had much more important things to do, but I still decided to wait beacouse I wanted the job done. Seeing that nobody showed up I called and we set up an other installation date. This time it would be during the week, after 4:30 pm so I could be home. I waited all evening. Nobody came. I called Empire again!! We set up an other appointment and again nobody showed up.

Not even a call to say they weren't coming. One day somebody did show up at 8 pm to do the installation and they ripped out the old carpet and when they went to install the new one I found out they had the wrong color. So they left me with a bare floor with nails sticking out were you can easaly get hurt. Till this day I am still arguing with the company and have been getting no results. I have been ignored and they have played a round with my personal time.
