Bought a Danby 5.5 Cu Freezer this year. The seal started to leak and frost built up. The nightmare then started with customer service. Showed pictures, did what they asked and then to get me a new freezer I would have to cut cord and send picture. What am I going with all my frozen meat. No replacement POLICY if I don’t cut cord. After sending many emails I GAVE UP. I will never buy any Products from this Company again. I would 0 Stars if I could.

To whomever might be able to assist. We bought an upright freezer from them and cannot get support for it. It is within the 5-year warranty but all the service centers we have contacted from Danby website won’t work on the unit. We are finding they won’t support the warranty as they are having the same trouble to get in touch with them. We have been trying for a week and gotten only auto response emails other than the 1 email they sent us saying yes, it is in warranty and here is your case number and reply if you have any issues. Well, we replied and advised them we can’t get anyone on their approved list to come out unless we pay them first. What good is a warranty if we must do all the work. You have lost more than just us as a customer. You have gained an advocate against your company.

We got gift 15 month from friend the chest freezer, it's stop working and we tried to claim warranty as its in warranty. But company never support and ask so many documents. We provided pictures & serial no to avail proof. But they trust more invoice instead of their own product and serial number. Fact they don't want to give any service or warranty of product after sales. Just to highlight sales they put 5 years warranty. False marketing. Today we found here so many unsatisfied customer list for warranty. Please compare other good company who give best service after sales.

Difficult to make them adhere to the warranty. I purchased a Danby upright freezer two years ago at Costco. My freezer stopped working on 07/31/2022. I have been contacting them since 08/01/2022 to get them to fix this freezer because the freezer wasn't holding its temperature. They sent me an email telling me to put paper in between the door and the hinge and take a picture and send it so they could make sure the door is that I closed adequately. Then after repeated calls where they stalled and pretended that they couldn't hear me talking over the phone.

I spoke to Costco, and they pressured Danby into giving me an answer four days after my initial call to Danby support. Then I was given an email with some phone numbers that Danby told me to call so that I would finally get my freezer fixed. However, I was told by the repair place that Danby has to contact them and request the inception of my freezer. Please value your time and energy and not buy from a company that treats its customers like crap when you want them to be accountable when their product fails. I have a five-year warranty.

We bought our Danby standalone freezer from Costco in Jan, 2021 and it stopped working March, 2022. I called Costco as it's under warranty and was told that they do not service Danby products, that was number #1. I was informed to contact Danby directly, I had to wait until Monday as they are closed on weekends. I have had nothing but Horrible service from Alicia at Danby specifically. I have requested to speak to her Supervisor for a formal complaint of her lack there of, of customer service and her work ethic. In short, we had to drop another 900 on a new freezer and lost over 1k worth of meat. This is unacceptable on every level. I will NEVER EVER buy another Danby product as well as I spoke my mind to Costco on how Dandy treats their customers.

The Danby freezers are China made Crap. We bought ours on June 1, 2021 locally at an appliance store here in town and it went out in Feb. 2022. It ruined about $500 worth of food which is nearly the cost of the freezer. HUGE mistake made here. Never again!

I paid $1200 for this freezer and after 2 that is two months it started to act up. I was in contact with the company by e mail and phone looking for a appliance repair center to come and look at this dying appliance. The two companies would not come out a 25 minute drive. I informed Danby many times and no help over 2 months went by and I lost $500 of food. I could not take this big delay from Danby. I called Maar24 appliance repair. They came out the next day. Two days later came out and did the repair. Danby has been told all this information and how good this repair and to use them as they were not able to give me any service or help. Now I want my money for repair. Company is not responding to this. $80 for inspection and $216 for the repair with a Danby part. I am doing a reno on my Kitchen and I need to buy many appliances. Just a thought here. N J

The 26 cubic foot (or so) upright freezer I have is two years old in 2021. It seems to work properly and to be well built in all respects except one. The door does not reliably stay shut. My last freezer had a strong magnetic gasket. With the old freezer no matter how timidly or strongly you closed the door it would stay shut. The Danby magnetic gasket isn't worth a bucket of warm spit. You have to push the door closed and pause for a second and then let go. If you swing the door closed it will bounce open slightly, and you will lose all the food inside.

Bought the small 6.cubic grey up freezer with 3 plastic drawers from Costco on Sept 17, 2021. Got it home and when I took the cardboard box, plastic bag, styrofoam etc off, It reeked of "wet like mold smell" including all the packaging. I got on Danby website online and seen complaints about this. Said to wipe it down with baking soda wash and leave it plugged in for up to 4 days with no food in it. The danby site said it was recycled plastics used (freezer made in China) and that caused the "temporary" smell.

By the 4th day it was worse. My utility room reeked from the smell. Thank goodness I did not put any food in it. I took it back to Costco and was refunded my money. They said first complaint, but as I was leaving the store 2 more of the same freezers were being returned. The customer said they had the same problem. They could not get rid of the smell. I have never had this horrible smell in any of my Danby fridge, freezers, AC that I have bought previously, including a small freezer fridge bought about a year ago. The problem may be from the recycled plastic used in the product. I will not be buying any Danby brand in the future without unpacking and checking it out in the store.

Bought a stand up Freezer in March 2021. It is now July 2021. We went downstairs to find our freezer flashing an E2 error. We contacted them through their website because their call center is shut down. I received an email to unplug the freezer for 5-10 minutes and see if that works. We had already accomplished that when we had to clean out the mess we had with unfrozen meat and plugged it back in when it was at 00 degrees so we loaded the meat back in and the temperature rose to 52 degrees but did lower to 21 degrees so we thought it was working. It wasn't later that morning we went back and it was up to 31 degrees so we unloaded the meat and luckily were able to use a relative's freezer that was empty so we wouldn't lose a 1/2 beef we just ordered. We are now sitting over a day later with no response from Danby and are ready to return it to Costco. STAY AWAY FROM DANBY PRODUCTS!!!

I purchased a Danby Upright Freezer a few months ago. First, I got it from Warners' Stellian. It took a month to get it. Then I didn't know you have to slam the door shut so it defrosted on me and all my meat was thawed out. Now that I learned I have to slam the door... the freezer went out again last night. Don't know why. Water was all over the floor. So far, I wouldn't recommend this freezer. I had another lesser name brand chest freezer and had it for 14 years with absolutely no problems. This one... not even a year and problems already.

I bought a chest freezer several weeks ago that worked for two days then suddenly stopped. A repairman recommended by Danby came to see it and said he couldn't fix it. Since then I have been dealing with customer service trying to get my freezer replaced since it is still under warranty. It has been three weeks since the problem occurred and my constant headaches by Danby started.

Every time I call customer service I am on hold for about an hour each time. Once I speak to a representative they are barely helpful and say they need to look into something or contact a different person in the company. They say they will call me back that day or the following morning. I have done this about 4 times and each time I wait several days then call Danby back. The new person I talk to then tells me the information I've been waiting to hear but even they don't know the full situation and again I am told they will contact me later (example: the first time I called, I had to get my fridge seen by a tech).

Second time: they contact me after saying the tech didn't give them a work order: the third time I called they said that they got the work order they can give me a refund which I asked for a replacement instead, they said they would check. Next time I called they said they needed to look for my freezer to see if it's in stock and so on. Every time I called them after an hour of waiting I only get a tiny piece of more information in which they say they will follow up on. Which they never do. In the end, they said they will only refund me and it will take 4-6 weeks and I have to get rid of the freezer myself. Do yourself a favour and never get anything through this company. You get better service at the DMV.

I like the variety, I know they have a lot of features and products to offer to us but not only to us but worldwide and I've never had a bad experience with them which is very great. However, I'd improve the warranty, the price, and how easy it is to access the brand like apps. On the other hand, I like how it freezes very well and all this time my freezer has never broke. I've always had a good experience with them but There was one time I had to contact customer service for a little screw that I lost somehow and they were very patient with me.

I love to cook and plan my meals the night before so a freezer is key to my lifestyle, and I'm very pleased with the Danby Freezer overall. Right size, auto defrost, baskets allow leveling and more storage, holds temperature, has alarm when too warm with a front light indicator rudded moves well, easy to clean and maintain, lockable, inside light, top stays open, freezes quickly when turned off. But I freeze a lot of food, keep a clipboard on the unit - a built-in clipboard "Frezer log" would be ideal.

The freezer absolutely has no problems to speak of, just a little too deep for me - have to stand on a step stool, need another or bigger baskets for small items. Had to improvise, make basket so they hook to each other. Wish this freezer had wheels too so as to move to clean under and behind. Cleaning inside is awkward but I delegate that! Never any problems with functionality just with appearance (white). When I purchased only white available - colors would be nice.

Also more often slight freezing to wall on the bottom and sides, gets too cold once in a while with no warning, window on top to see inside contents, ice accumulation to top inside fridge when one of the kids leave open a little - maybe a buzzer to alert me that is going on, fold out or detachable racks too on the back to allow for more efficiency and thus more product storage. Have add-ons or optional accessories - possibly an ice maker or Slushee attachment.

Other than those the Danby Freezer is one of the best, most efficient and rugged appliance I own. It has been moved two times with relocation trucks and has been through two hurricanes and still works like the day I purchased it. Highly recommended, and the price was good! Energy efficient and quiet too. All in all I never worry about it! Really helps save money by freezing vegetables and on-sale meat items, and still help out neighbors after hunting. But I should have purchased a larger unit, now I need another one. And I would rather long shape (rectangular) not square, doesn't fit in kitchen. Is in bedroom!

I am pleased with the freezer and I appreciated the color selection. I ordered this freezer because it was the perfect size for where I wanted it to go. It takes up the same space as a standard dishwasher. It is light-weight and easy to move. The front opening door made it perfect for under the counter. The temperature control is easy to use. The hook-up was easy because it plugs into a standard wall outlet. The freezer keeps the contents perfectly. It was delivered promptly and was securely packaged. But I didn’t like the shape/capacity of the bottom shelf... It makes it difficult to stack meats, vegetables, frozen dinners, etc. in the bottom, so food falls or tumbles over. The adjustable legs are hard to adjust. The shelves themselves cannot be raised or lowered.

      Reviewed March 10, 2018

I've had a great experience with the Danby freezer, it works better than any freezer I've ever purchased in my lifetime and the warranty on it lasts for years, so if there's any problems, you can get ahold of somebody and exchange or get money back. Very big and has a lot of space to store all your frozen items, easy to clean if it just so happens to get dirty. The temperature of the freezer is astounding, keeps everything as cold as you would want it. Has a thing for ice which is very convenient so you don't have to go buy bags and bags of ice. Slides in and out for easy access.

The only thing I would change is perhaps the handle, would like it to be the same color as the exterior of the freezer itself. And maybe a setting to change the temperature of the freezer although it's at a perfect temperature. And the icebox should probably be located elsewhere because ice sometimes slips behind the freezer and jam it and it's very hard to get out due to the small spacing between the icebox and the back of the freezer. All in all, love the brand and would highly consider other products from Danby.

Lots of space and great cooling for items and stuff that need to be refrigerated and cooled. It also has a great water dispenser. It’s pretty good and would buy a more better version if I had more money. But, the water dispenser doesn’t come with the ice cube dispenser. Also, there’s not a lot of features but if there were more features I would get another freezer of the same company and might even pay a bit more for it.

Danby Freezer author review by Jonathan Trout

Danby has been designing and making refrigerators and specialty kitchen appliances for over 65 years. Its line of freezers range in size from 2.6 to over 15 cubic feet. You can choose from 19 models of wide or upright freezers. Find the nearest retailer that sells Danby freezers on their website.

      • Compact freezers: Danby has seven models of compact chest freezers ranging in size from 2.6 to 7 cubic feet. They feature foam insulation, mechanical thermostats and storage baskets. Each design is made to fit flush against your wall.

      • Larger-capacity chest freezers: Danby has six models of larger-capacity freezers ranging in size from 8.1 to 11 cubic feet. Similar to smaller models, these freezers have foam-insulated lids and cabinets to save energy. They have rust-resistant aluminum liners that make cleaning a breeze.

      • Upright freezers: Danby makes six upright freezer models ranging in size from 3.2 to 13.8 cubic feet. They can reach temperatures as low as -11.2 degrees and come with reversible door hinges for left or right-hand opening. Upright models come with multiple shelves and are Energy Star compliant.

      • Frost eliminating: Danby freezers help eliminate frost buildup that comes from warm air sneaking in when the door is opened and closed. If you choose a unit with a frost-free option, it uses a coil that warms up just enough to melt frost. The water then runs down to the drain pan and evaporates.

      • R600A refrigerant: R600A is an energy-efficient refrigerant that’s better for the environment than standard refrigerant. It is 162 times less damaging to the atmosphere than right-hand refrigerants like R134a.
