My garbage disposal was leaking and my son replaced it in feb or March 2015. After using it for a few days ,I noticed that my belonging under the sink were wet. When I was about to call a plumber, I realized I had a home warranty Insurance. At this time , I contacted my insurance since it was the 1st time using them, so after a couple of days a tech from Allright Mechanical came out to repair the garbage disposal. He said it was a minor problem, and he fixed it and said I wouldn't have anymore problem with the garbage disposal. On the morning of the 30th I decided to use the disposal and noticed a puddle of water on the floor. I immediately open the doors to the sink and noticed the water coming from the disposal worst than ever, as it wet the rug in front of the doors. I immediately called for the technician to come back and fix this problem that he had claimed was fixed; then I called my insurance and told them the tech did not fix the garbage disposal. About 25 minutes late, I missed a call from Chris with Total Protect, but tried to call him back, but another party said that my claim was invalid because my son had originally installled the disposal improperly. This is asinine! Since when you can't attempt to fix something in your home without being penalized! Nonetheless, the tech will not return to fix the problem, which he deemed was repaired and yet, I have a leaky garbage disposaL after giving TotalProtect more than $300.00 and paying my service fee of $100.00. Where is justice here, I ask? I hope the Co. will rectify this problem soon or we will take it to another level, which I hope won't be necessary. What good is insurance if it doesn't deliver? I hope no one else has to go through what I am feeling now. Currently, I am very angry and cannot sit and watch that water destroy my cabinet, so I may have to contact another plumber and if it resort to that, the I may as well cancel this so-called insurance.

My microwave and dish washer broke. Totalprotect is unable to get these items fixed, instead the company have sent numerous technicians but the problems are still not resolved. The could have just bought a new microwave for less than $400, but they have spent over $500 buying parts and fixing motor board. I don't understand. I will never use this company again. These claims are now over a year old, and still not being fixed.

When you call to submit a claim to HMS they immediately send out an approved technician. Generally, waiting time is no more than two or three days and everything's fixed. The billing is also really easy. We first used HMS for our refrigerator when the duckbill on its bottom was causing it to leak. Now, we had someone today who replaced the sump pump. The technician was kind, courteous, nice, and basically changed out the duckbill and no more problem. Unfortunately, he loosened some of the fittings on the water back up when he was knocking around with the sump pump. He wasn't allowed to touch and fix that so now, I have to call a different plumber out. That's not good but I expect it will be okay.

When our house became old and things started breaking, we looked into getting a home warranty. We've had TotalProtect for probably eight years. They usually get things done pretty quickly. For the most part, submitting a claim with them has been very good, except when you have to have your pool done. The automated process online does not process pool claims, although it says it does. I have the pool warranty for 5 years and it's been the same. They always have to go in and do something to get the pool claim to go through.
But when it comes to interactions with their claims reps, they've always been very good. They're courteous. Recently, I had a situation where they gave me a technician's name, but the person came out on a different day, left a door tag on my door, and then never called me back. The issue hasn't been resolved yet, but they were able to get me somebody else to come out to help me with my problem. The guy that came out yesterday was very nice. I've had a decent experience with TotalProtect every time so I recommend them.

Submitting a claim with HMS Home was easy but during the plumbing side, it was long. No one came here from HMS. I had to find someone who was willing to work with them because I was too far out for the people that are available. HMS gave me names and I called, and they said "You're too far out for us to come." So I said "Okay." So I called back and said that, and they said "Well, you have to do this and then get pre-approved." Pre-approval was a little lengthy but it was okay. It all works out and the plumber was very, very nice and easy-going. He was more concerned with getting done right what needed done, as opposed to 'Hey, I'm on the clock and I have to see so many people in a day' kind of attitude. He was a 'yes, he was willing.'

Every technician that’s ever been out from TotalProtect has been extremely professional, except for the air conditioner people. They act like they’re a bunch of idiots and I’ve not been happy with any air conditioner person TotalProtect ever sent out here. They did what they’re sent out to do for the quarterly inspections but they don’t even look like they have the license to do business.

We've had HMS since we purchased our home 15 years ago. My experience submitting claims over the phone has been great and for the most part the vendors they send out haven’t been bad (our heat and A/C guy was very good) but some of them I wouldn’t have as a part of my HMS system if I had to choose them. One in particular disturbed me because he brought in a manual as if he didn't know what he was doing as he was trying to repair our washer. To me, that’s not an impression you want to give your customer, that you’re not sure what’s going on. If you need a book go to your truck, but don’t bring a book inside our home on what process or what procedure that needs to be done to correct the problem.
We also had bad ordeal with our water tank where the vendor didn’t do a great install and two years later, it went bad as a result of their faulty installation and the cost that you incur with HMS in replacing the water tank to me is exorbitant than most other warranty companies. We weren’t happy with the water tank replacement because it was replaced in 2011 and then it was replaced in 2015 or 2014 and it was too soon for us to have to come out with a $1000 or $1200 for something that we weren’t responsible for and doing a poor install initially.

We've been with TotalProtect for years and as far as I'm concerned, I'm going to continue since I don't ever have any issues with them. Recently, most of the interactions with the claims representatives have been automated. But in the first two years, I spoke with live people and it was fine. We had an issue but it was taken care of. Most of their technicians are fine and friendly. The plumbers are usually the ones that are a bit more difficult but I guess they're just a different breed.

TotalProtect was convenient so we went for them as our home warranty provider. Right now however, we are considering cancelling the policy. We had a few claims. The one regarding the dishwasher went very smoothly and was taken care of very promptly. We were very happy with the representative from Sears that TP sent out.
The biggest problem we had and we still have this outstanding issue is with our AC unit. I was very disappointed in the way that it was handled. I actually made several calls and spoke to several people regarding it, including the supervisor. 2 out of the 3 representative that came out to my home to make the repair or give a diagnostic were poor English speakers, and I really felt like I was being ripped off. It was like a scam, and I told them this.
All three of the different people that came out to take a look at the AC unit had different opinions as to what was wrong with it. So if I were to go ahead and make the suggested repair, there was no guarantee that the part of the AC was still going to still work after that. And even with that, we would probably have to fork out about $2,000 and repair everything or go with a new unit. The person that I spoke to with the TotalProtect had told me that it's very complicated and difficult for me to understand.
When I googled for reviews on the representatives that they sent for the AC repair, there were over a hundred negative reviews on them. The AC guys were a bunch of jokers and were very inappropriate with the way they spoke to me. I went back and explained all of this to TotalProtect and basically the end result was that we had to go with what was covered. Therefore, I still have an AC unit that's not working. I actually paid some of my own money to get another (unbiased) opinion on the AC from a company off their list. The man gave a totally different reason as to what he felt was wrong with the AC. In fact, he was the one who I would have probably trusted to have just gone ahead and fixed it. But TotalProtect would not authorize that because he was the third person.
I really think it comes down to who they're choosing to do the work. I think if Sears would have been doing the AC, I probably wouldn't have had that problem. But they're getting these small companies, and when I called more reputable companies in my area, they say they don't deal with those. I think what happens is that these little companies aren't going to get a lot of money from TotalProtect so they have to make money some other way, like proposing deals that has nothing to do with the issue that I'm having. This is the first time I've ever had anything like this kind of a protection. I don't think I would ever do it again because I just don't think it's worth it.

Contacted the company about our refrigerator not working beginning of June. They said they would call back and did not. After several attempts to contact them they finally agreed for us to find someone on our own to come and look at the refrigerator. The tech informed the company of the problem and the company did not respond on what they would do to fix the problem. After many more calls the company said they would only reimburse certain amount for the refrigerator to be replaced. Now we have replaced the refrigerator at our own cost and sent in the receipt as requested no word on reimbursement and no communication from the company. One of the worst companies I have dealt with. I am a business owner and know how important customer service is and this company has the worst customer service. I hope I do not have to legally pursue this.

With HMS, overall, we’ve had some bad experiences and we’ve had some good experiences. The people who came to fix my washing machine couldn't take the washer and dryer apart so we had to do that. When we called them back, they said one issue was wrong with it but it wasn't. In two or three times, they didn't bother to show up and when they did finally show, they claimed that it was a manufacturing problem. When the guys did come out from the manufacturer, the issue was the spin part that holds up. They said, "they should've known that", and that they could've fixed it anyway in two weeks but it took them two months to get fixed.

I would have been better off without this company. Spending $45 a month for about 4 years and cost to fix hwh was $500 to me. Hwh was under warrenty so TP paid about $90 and their required company charged me $500 in addition. Have AC problem today and they will not allow me to use my AC company. Their company cannot even come out until Thursday so i am without AC for the week and probably will be charged more than with my company. Very unhappy with this company. Think twice before using them! I will probably use my company and probably will pay less to fix this issue. If so, i will try to end contact with them asap! Wasted years of monthly coverage!

My concern was immediately addressed and resolved.

They're good but my most recent encounter with them when our air conditioning unit went out didn't meet my expectation. #1 Contractor did not do what they said they were going to do. The two men that came out told me they were putting the claim one day but they didn't and I had to call them the next day to get them to put in the claim. #2 Contractor waited until they got the part into the store before they even scheduled the appointment to come out. I shouldn't have to wait for a part to come in, and then wait another week for your schedule to clear up when I could have made this appointment a week in advance.
Another problem is that you can't go to anyone else. If I had stayed with another company whom we paid to check to our AC unit prior to submitting the claim, I would have paid a thousand dollars and had it fixed within the same day, but because I went to HMS, it took three weeks to be repaired, and I paid a hundred dollars for the deductible. I couldn't blame HMS but I talked to them about who they're hiring or contracting work out to. I would definitely never use that contractor personally.

What????!!!!!!!! How do you NOT have this information??? I'm so confused and lost over this situation! How were we supposed to know what company was delivering the dishwasher in the first place??? And how did they even get a delivery date in their system?!!! The MANAGER didn't even know who had my dishwasher because they had a different delivery company in their system. My husband and I thought that Sears, GE, or Total Protect were going to be the actual company coming out to install it because their the ones that gave us the delivery date. This company is extremely disorganized, horrible at communicating with their customers and third parties and after all that her attitude with me gave us a bad taste in our mouth. We never got an appology for completely dropping the ball on us. I'm assuming they don't replace many appliances so when the time comes, they just don't know what to do or how to even get the claim for a replacement finalized. This department needs to be educated in this process. Even if they knew what the correct delivery company was and just told me to call myself to schedule with them (like the manager said was SUPPOSED to happen) that would have been fine! It's the miscommunication with us, with the delivery company, and making up a random date in their system and then not even calling to let us know anything is what is so unprofessional about this situation. The dishwasher is "supposed" to be delivered tomorrow, we will see if they even show up. We don't have high hopes. Oh and we were never even given a claim or order number for this either...

Submitting a claim with TotalProtect is really easy. Everybody is so nice and helpful. For the long time that I have been with them, I've only had one person that they sent out who was awful. He was sent to fix the air conditioner. It was 103 degrees in here so it was extremely hot in this house. And I'm 81 years old. So I asked him if there was any way that he could hurry and he said no and that he had a lot to do and he'd get to it whenever he could. So I said okay. Then he went in and started taking parts out and he said that we have to order a part. I understand that and he promised that he will come the minute he gets the part and fix it no matter what time it was.
What upset me was that he called me and he said that the part is in, but there's no way that he can do it since he was tired and going home from out of town. He said that he will be with me first thing in the morning, but instead, he came on the afternoon. When he got here, he took the thing apart again and started putting things on the carpet in the hall. He said that he was going to have to go out on the front porch because it was too hot in here. I wanted to go hit him over the head since, yes, it's hot in here and that's what I've been telling him for four days. I also asked him to go check out and see if I need any freon in the AC. He goes out and said that the AC needs not much but it does need some freon and when he brings these parts back, he will put it in.
So when he put everything together, I said to him not to forget to go put some Freon out but he said that it doesn't need it. I said to him that he just told me that the AC needed freon and when he comes back, he'd do it. He then said that I was lying to him and that he never said that. I don't know what was wrong with him, but I would never have him back out here. It's really dangerous here in San Antonio when the heat gets like that especially for older people and children, so I was concerned and my children were, too. But we toughed it out and I made it. Although, this last group that has come out for my dishwasher and my dryer have been so nice. They've come back and done some things so I would still recommend TotalProtect to a friend.

TotalProtect came about with the original mortgage holder on this house so it was automatically added on to our mortgage. Subsequently, we've changed mortgage companies and we refinance, so now I just charge through a credit card and have it every month and I've had them for ten years. They've been very responsive when we submit a claim online or through the phone. And if something was tied up for a day or two, there was usually someone I hear for my problem, depending upon who the sub-contractor is.
With the technicians, sometimes the part that we need for the repairs may not be available locally but I've always had it within three days if it's something from out of town. And if it was for heating and air conditioning, I've never had to wait at all. They worked on that because they know, we have to have the air conditioning here. Before, the service company who serviced us for the air conditioning was very expensive. Then I went ahead and joined TotalProtect's Gold part in which I pay a little extra money a month, and I'll be getting the same service.
So I thought, "Why am I paying these people a monthly service and I have this TotalProtect thing I've been paying on for years, and with a little bit of an upcharge, I can have the same service?" So I eliminated the heating and air conditioning company and just went with TotalProtect. Since then, I have no complaints and I'm very pleased. I've even had some of the sub-contractors who've come out here and work at our place and they told us that they had very good luck with TotalProtect versus American Home Shield. So I feel quite comfortable with that.
Up to this point, there has never been a price increase at all. Over the years, if I hadn’t upgraded to the other plan, my premium would’ve remained the same. I don't know how they’re able to do that because I know everything has gone up. But I understand the $75 service charge. I understand the agreement that we have for certain things and I have no problem with it. I recommend TotalProtect to anyone. Excellent Service.

I never thought of any home warranty provider but I kept getting TotalProtect flyers in the mail with my mortgage statement so I decided to use them since it's attached to my mortgage. It has saved me a lot of money. Their claims process is fairly straightforward. However, part of the difficulty is that it has to go through all the hoops so it takes twice as long. When the hot water heater or the air conditioning goes out, two weeks is a long time. But other than that, it's not so bad when it's something that you don't really have to live with.
Their people are very helpful, courteous and friendly and it's easy to get a hold of people there. However sometimes the contractors on their list are not always the best. I found a few of them that I really didn't like so I had to call and ask for somebody else. One air conditioning guy came last year and said, "Oh, it needs freon and a new fan." They provided that when in fact, it was fuel and oil. And the guy this year found that all of the unit had to be replaced. If I can call up and talk to somebody to say, "This is the contractor I would like to come cause he has come before and I liked him, and he does good work," it would be a lot more helpful than having to deal with the automated system that gives me their number one contractor where I have to call up and ask for that to be changed.

I chose TotalProtect because of the initial outlay of the money. When it comes to claims, one thing that I didn't like was the fact that Sears was supposed to have come and take care of things which I didn't find out until a month later that Sears appointments were made through TotalProtect. There was the same problem going on with the garbage disposal stuff for over a month before a lady called me and said, "We made that appointment." I said, "Nobody told me. So let’s make the appointment." And after that, everything went smooth.
The technicians who have come here were fine. However, a year ago, I had problems with my fans and the guy was so busy and lived way downstate that it was hard for him to get up here. So it went on and on then I had a problem with the wires burning. It took one fan and so he finally came out and fixed it. The problem with TotalProtect has always been the time from when I put in a claim til the time the problem actually gets fixed. But I had recommended them, and the fact that I’m sticking with them says it all.

TotalProtect has done great. It's very easy to submit a claim - the 1st one I did online and the 2nd (yesterday) I called in. Their reps have guided me through in terms of whether it would be an appliance or a plumbing issue, so it wasn't a hassle. The technicians that have come were very friendly, knowledgeable about what my issue was and resolved it in a quickly manner. Getting signed up with TotalProtect helped me in the long run in terms of the cost when everything's breaking down or needing to be fixed. The cost of $40 something a month is definitely worth having protection on what happens in my house. It's the best decision I've made in terms of my house. I have recommended TotalProtect to two individuals who've gotten it as well.

As of 7/21/15 my boiler still has not been serviced, nor has anyone come back out to look at it. I have contacted Total Protect at least 15 times, spoken to 15 different people, even had a Supervisor with Total Protect do a conference call with AC Mechanical (Andre), he promised he would come out the next day, I stayed home from work and waited. He never showed, never called! I am Totally disgusted and dissatisfied with Total Protect Home Warranty!!! They need to have a better screening process for the contractors they hire to work for them. TotalProtect did everything they were supposed to do but I had a problem with the contractor that they used. They put a list together of things that needed to be done to put that air conditioner in, stuff and charges I didn’t need. It was over a thousand dollars out of my pocket for them to put the air conditioner in. I thought what if this was somebody that didn't know any difference and they'd say "Oh, wow! Okay. Go ahead put it in." But anyway, I was able to negotiate with them and I got it from over $1000 down to $260. So overall, experience was good and I'd recommend them.

TotalProtect is efficient, quick, and easy. When I submit a claim, they do the recording and get the information they need, but I personally enjoy talking to an actual person. Generally, they give me a claim number, the phone number of who's going to make the repair, and either schedule the repair or I can schedule it myself. Technicians have always been good and willing to fix the problem. They diagnose what is wrong, then call TotalProtect to get the okay. That can be anywhere from five minutes to longer. Things get either repaired, replaced or I am given some type of a loan towards a new one. I've actually had a couple of appliances replaced.

Finally, the gentleman did come out and he repaired something that seems to be the same problem once again. I spoke to HMS three days ago and I filed a claim. This morning, I finally sent the gentleman an email because I figured they ask you to wait 48 hours if you haven’t heard anything, so I sent him the email and hopefully I will get some response. I try to keep the house comfortable for my mother who’s just home from the hospital a couple of weeks and I’m not really thrilled with the response. No one ever discussed what we were getting, sent any papers or responded in a timely manner. My wife almost had to go to the emergency room because we though we could hold out until service was provided. Because we are up in age (over 60), the heat is dangerous. This is not acceptable conduct on the part of this company. To make matters worst, even the air conditioning company had no idea of what is going on. We cannot and will not continue to live with others. If we stay in our home and any medical situation occurs, we will hold you totally responsible. This type of unprofessionalism should not occur. We need immediate action on this claim, and we need to talk to someone as to what we may eventually be getting. We cannot allow you to just send something that we do not know what it is. Well, to be honest I did get a bit of a runaround. They sent 3 techs and the first 2 mis-diagnosed. The first tech had to come back 3 times within 5 days cause he kept mis-diagnosing. The air would work for a few hours and then blow warm again. Finally, he just gave up and said he did not know what was wrong and would not return. So the search begins again, in the middle of the summer in Georgia, to find an available tech. So we got another one who said essentially we had the wrong unit - that cause the warranty to deny the claim. With that, we had to go to work ourselves to prove we had the right unit, then get the guy to call in and correct his error - which he did. However, keep in mind that all the while I had to pay the Servicing Fee to each one. The 3rd tech finally said I needed a new unit, so now I had to wait days for the approval, then I had to wait more days for the equipment to arrive and then more days for the tech to install it. Ends up we were 3 weeks in the Georgia 90+ heat without air! However, I will credit this company for recognizing that they needed to replace the unit, and stepping up to the plate to make it happen. Now we have a completely new system and we are happy. Hardly even remember we spent 3 weeks in weather reaching 90+ degrees on some days while we waited for the repair and subsequent new install. I would recommend them, yes, only because they do the right thing - many warranty companies, from what I hear, do not. Customer service was good - but it was hard to get them some days we held up to 45 minutes waiting on them to come on the line. They did honor their commitments to call us back and they did seem to work to get our claim resolved - we spent a lot of time on the phone with them - a lot!

Around 5 weeks ago, there was no debate about what needed to be repaired. Since then, Total Protect has done nothing. I call nearly day and they say they are searching for a part. My local contractor has already given me a bid to repair the system – why is it that he can find the parts but Total Protect cannot? Total Protect is stonewalling – makes me wonder if they are going out of business. I went with TotalProtect over any other warranty provider because I like their philosophy. I would ask around at church and a couple of people who also have TP said they have been really satisfied. For the most part, we've been pretty pleased with TP. There was one instance though with our dishwasher we weren't too happy about. The guy that came out and looked at it said it quit working because there's been cockroaches up in the board - he hadn't even opened it so there was no way he knew that. But TotalProtect didn't want to even get a second opinion so we ended up replacing the dishwasher. However, we felt that they should have taken the initiative to get a second opinion. We even called them back and offered that my husband, who has a lot of experience with small equipment repairs, put in the board if only TP pays for it - but they said they can't do that either.
Also, the technician that came out to replace the hot water heater really didn't have any idea what he was doing. My husband knew more about it than he did. The technician was gonna cut off the pipe right at the hot water heater and attach it right there and my husband warned him that it will blow off. He told the technician that if does blow, the company the technician works for is gonna have to pay for the damages. Nevertheless, TotalProtect itself have been very accommodating and I always get emails asking me about the service. I'm upfront with them and I tell them if it's good, bad, and different. I know it isn't always their fault, sometimes it's the company and the technician they send. So overall, we've had a relatively good experience with TP.

The customer service rep was able to get back with me within two days of when I could make an appointment which also means no showering for two days.
Then it was a matter of them making the appointment which was for the following Monday - another two days later. They came out to say that it needed to be replaced. That took five days from me to get approval. I had an emergency installed that didn't go through very well and they were able to install the following Monday. I came out of pocket for the whole amount too, and I'm still waiting four weeks later for a reimbursement check. So it’s not a very good experience at all.
Moreover, the quality of the work was done by somebody outside of HMS. It was done by Lowe's because they did the buyout option. It's a skewered piece of mind that everything's going to be okay, but when you get a problem they want 75 bucks for each thing. A lot of times repairs aren't worth the deductible and I'm playing the waiting game. Next time I'll make sure all that stuffs fixed before I move in, and never try to rely on my home warranty.

We had a warranty provider before who didn't provide much coverage in general for the amount we were paying, and TotalProtect seemed to be of better value so we switched. We've had 4 claims. 3 of them had been stellar and 1 of them was awful but overall we're pleased. Reps are always well-informed and efficient. When they say they're going to contact somebody, they'll contact someone. If they say they're going to call, they call. They get the information accurately, and everything goes smoothly from their end. Most of the time technicians were very personable and skilled. I get to talk to them first time. We've never had to bring anybody back. I tend to be a curious person and I pay attention to what they're doing while they're doing it. They explain things to me and never seem to have a problem doing that. Quality of work is excellent!

I may have skewed expectations of what a warranty service, or just basic insurance for that matter is supposed to help with in the event of an unforeseen incident. We moved into our house almost 4 years ago, and one of our primary concerns was the age of some of our appliances, namely the existing A/C unit. As part of our negotiations the seller opted to provide 2 years of warranty coverage (via HMS Home Warranty) to alleviate some of these concerns. When this period expired my wife and I opted to extend coverage with HMS seeing as we still had concern for certain house systems (again, a focus on the A/C).
We had activated the warranty for a few other items in our house over the years, mostly plumbing issues - not really thinking much about the blanket $100 deductible charge for repairs (even though certain repairs did not seem to necessitate the full $100, but some of these contractors I believe have grown used to simply charging the deductible without any further breakdown of the invoice).
Just this past week we noticed that our A/C unit was making noise and so decided to file a claim and have someone from HMS come take a look. They discovered that our fan had lost a blade and was running unevenly, causing the noise and wearing out the motor. Parts were ordered and we were told the repairs would be covered by our warranty. We were told by the technicians to use the unit sparingly until the parts arrived after the holiday. Within hours the unit was making a terrible noise, and when I noticed that the motor was creating enough torque to rip a hole in the top cover the unit, I immediately shut it off and informed the technicians.
Speaking to HMS shortly after, they informed me that the unit would now have to be replaced and that I was no longer covered. Their reasoning was that they do not cover "external damage" of equipment, only mechanical failures. So instead of looking at the A/C unit as an overall appliance failure, they instead chose to focus on the failure of specific components, likening the cover to resulting damage - similar to a water leak's effect on drywall, or an Act of God. So in the end, HMS did not have my back when a primary appliance in my house failed, which was really the only reason I had the warranty in the first place. They chose to opt out on a technicality, and even had the nerve to essentially admit to this on the phone to me.
The customer service experience was another sore point. After routinely waiting 15 minutes plus to talk to a human, I proceeded to speak with several claims representatives with varying degrees of politeness and competence. Everyone I spoke to had a different reasoning on why I was not being covered. I was sent in circles between the claims department and the membership services department, each claiming that the other knew more about my particular case, and I was ultimately forwarded to a case manager, at which point I was disconnected (this happened multiple times).
I was finally told that a case manager would call me within 4-8 business hours, and when she finally did (2 days later), she was more prone to repeat the company line than anyone I had previously spoken to. When I informed her that this ordeal had negated my need for a home warranty and that I would be canceling my membership, I was simply told "I am sorry to hear that". All that being said, I would not recommend this service to anyone else - it is clear that HMS Home Warranty is in this business to take your money and not fulfill the intent of the product you pay monthly for.

To be fair, I understand the goal of any insurance company is to pay out less to you than you pay them; however, with HMS Home Warranty the odds are stacked quite heavily in their favor. When they're selling you a home warranty, they act like they cover almost any repair; unknown pre-existing conditions? - No problem! But, what is buried in the pages of fine print are exclusions for all of the most common causes of home repairs. Their network of "pre-screened qualified service professionals" are more often than not neither qualified nor professional. I can only assume the pre-screening process is asking if they're willing to accept half what they'd normally be paid for their time.
A good service contractor typically generates a steady stream of employment based on quality work and satisfied customers; these folks aren't interested in working with warranty companies because they have enough work on their own and make twice what HMS is willing to pay them. So, HMS is left with the bottom of the barrel contractors (again, to be fair, not all of them are terrible. I did have one positive experience with an HVAC technician who showed up on time, was polite and knew his business). I've waited weeks for their contractors to schedule appointments, had misdiagnosed or improperly repaired issues that I've had to hire my own contractors to come in and fix, had one of their contractors who no call/no showed to two consecutive appointments (couple others that have shown up late), and most recently had HMS try to assign a plumber to diagnose and repair my pool equipment which he knew nothing about.
Making an initial claim is easy since you don't have to talk to a human at all; however, calling their "help" line to follow up on a claim (typically for me because their assigned contractor never called back or failed to show up for appointment) is a nightmare. I have never been on hold for less than 15 minutes, once waited over 45 minutes to talk to someone, and on a couple other occasions hung up after 30-45 minutes of being on hold. It feels as though the entire process is specifically designed to frustrate you into not bothering to file claims or get repairs done because you don't have weeks of your life to give up waiting on or fighting with HMS.All in all, their warranty coverage is pretty worthless. If you value your time or expect a job to be done right the first time, my recommendation is to save your money on a home warranty and simply hire your own repairmen if needed.

We purchased the HMS Home Warranty with our home in August 2014 resting assured if we had anything major happen with our stove, microwave, dishwasher or AC Unit, we would be covered. Our AC Unit went down, they sent a technician out twice and at almost two weeks later we were given nothing in regards to fixing our unit or covering a new one. Our family was out of our home for this entire time with three small children and HMS Home Warranty called and stated they would be repairing nothing and it was not covered. The inside and outside units were "mismatched" and no one figured this out until the claim was almost at 2 weeks. We were not told the parts were mismatched at the purchase of the home and feel HMS Home Warranty should at least give back the $100 deductible that we paid.
This was a tremendous burden on our family and resulted in us paying over 4K to replace our system since HMS Home Warranty took entirely too long when filing claims and gathering "authorization" for services needing to be rendered. We will no longer be purchasing a home-warranty with HMS and hope others will be mindful of extreme circumstances when buying these warranties.

The Customer Service and general service of the company overall was absolutely horrible it was a long wait time just to here the same dribble from the unhelpful costumer service reps. No one was helpful in our claim which has lasted for two months and no one is trying to help us, luckily we have called just about every day for the past month or so but the results are minimal they are just now sending out a repairman to aid us and they expect us to pay a new deductible for the same claim we've been dealing with. When I first started calling I would ask for representatives that spoke Spanish because speaking English is hard for me however the supposed Spanish speaking representatives never answered and told me to leave a message with my name, number, and policy number. I left this message four times. They did not call back within the two months nor have they called back so I am left to assume the Spanish department at this company is something fabricated by the customer service in order to hang up on us quicker than normally. I have never dealt with such a truly horrible service in my entire life. Dealing with these issues has brought up one question in my mind though, Why do I pay these People if they aren't going to help me? I Feel as though i have been cheated by this company and they think of me as some idiot who will spend money on everything they tell me I need to pay well in return is it to much to ask that they actually service me? I am led to believe that it is indeed to much to ask of them to help me seeing as to how my problem is only now being slightly resolved after two months of a raised electrical bill because they have been too busy to come and replace one lousy piece on my A/C unit. I had a home warranty provider before and I wasn't exactly happy with them so I went with TotalProtect. So far, submitting a claim to them is okay. I've only had one occasion when I was very unhappy because we had to wait over a week to get our heat back on downstairs, and it was the middle of winter. So I had to use the fireplace and go out and get wood every day, several times a day, in terrible weather and bring it indoors. And I’m 83, so it wasn't too easy and it's getting harder every day. So that wasn’t a good time and my fireplace doesn't heat up the downstairs.
I even had to go out and buy one of those heating devices and that was about as bad as the fireplace. It was pretty hard to cook because everything's electric in the kitchen. I was coming downstairs to 45 degrees and there was no heat. That was one of their projects and they made me wait over a week as they played games between the insurance and the repair companies as we had to replace the whole heating system downstairs. The big problem is they only did a half-assed job on the heat because that same unit is also the air conditioner.
Knowing most of those companies, what they do is they put in the cheapest system they can find. But it's a heating and air condition system, and I've had one that I've replaced in the attic and I did that on my own several years ago. When you don’t match them up properly and you don't get the emergency electric part of it – for the difference in the money, it's not that much between the electric emergency and the propane parts. The one that I have in the attic switches to emergency electric when the propane problem occurs, so I don't have to depend on just propane. Whereas the one that they put in was the cheap version and it just does propane. It doesn’t switch automatically and that only means that the 25-year-old air conditioning system that's part of that total package is 25 years old and it's going to go awful.
It's something to look forward to in the middle of summer. So they should’ve solved the problem at the same time and tried to make a deal with me for different options, instead of just making their own decisions and just throwing in the piece of crap. If they asked me to pay another 500 or a thousand to help defray the expenses of the part that didn't break, I would have gone along with it. But they don't give you that option. They just charge ahead like a bullet in a China store.

Their technicians were also nice, very polite, and we're happy with their work. One time, I called them again because it turned out that the product they placed in my plumbing was faulty so it was leaking again. But there were no questions asked and no problems the minute they replaced it.
The only thing that I wished they had covered are the porch light fixtures. I didn't care about paying the deductible and then I had to pay the whole thing again. But I understood that's always the possibility and I thought, "Oh, well. They fix your refrigerator one time, they fix the stove, they save me money over the years. So, it balanced out." Overall, we're very happy with the company and we've never had any messing up with them.

I looked into acquiring home warranty because, at the time, I had just purchased my home and I had all brand-new appliances. I'm a single mom, therefore I was trying to be smart as far as my expenses, and I thought that that was the best way to go because if something breaks, it's very expensive to fix. I went with TotalProtect over a different warranty provider because of the price. Submitting a claim is easy when you get through their call center. The claims representatives were definitely courteous and nice, and have good customer service skills, basing on their willingness to assist. However, there's always a breakdown in communication and that is very frustrating. So it might take more than one call to have things fixed.
It took about five different visits for the technicians to fix the garbage disposal and the first company was horrible. They removed the original disposal unit that was faulty. It kept on jamming and they replaced it with a much smaller unit. And then the second unit also kept on jamming. When I called, they told me that it should have been on warranty because it was brand-new. So then I needed to deal with the installer. Then I found out that actually the unit wasn't new. So there was no warranty. They gave me something that was refurbished. The bottom line, I have a garbage disposal that I did not want and that you have to be super-careful so it doesn't jam, and it's not new. So I am not happy with them.
I've been with them and I never cancelled, and I keep on working with them. But as far as the actual experiences, they should rely on better servicing companies. Right now they're in the process of trying to fix my oven and the technician has come out three times already. They have replaced two parts but the oven is still giving me the same problem -- It just shuts off. So today, at three o'clock, we have another technician coming out. In the meantime, it's been more than two months and I cannot cook a meal in my oven because it will shut off. I've had things that were fixed just fine. I had technicians come out and fix my washer -- That was the first claim that I had. The technician came in and fixed my washer, and it lasted and that was fine. I also had somebody come to fix one of my toilets and they came in and fixed it.
So the bottom line is that they rely on a third party company to come out, which is fine. However, the third party company is just milking it. So I'm changing this part and this part, and I pay the 60 bucks. But they charge the insurance company more than $600 for those two parts and it's still not working. So I suffer as the customer and the insurance company suffers financially.

My wife and I are elderly and we both have COPD. Our air conditioning unit quit running 4 weeks ago. We called to place a claim that same day. A week later they sent Del's Heating and Cooling to our home. The serviceman removed the cover and found a dead mouse and claimed the "mouse shorted out the control board". Total Protection Gold DECLINDE THE CLAIM. We paid two different companies to come out and both companies told us that the compressor was locked up and the control board was in a sealed enclosure and there was no damage from a mouse. I, finally, was allowed to talk to a supervisor. I finally got him to agree to send another company out to my home if I paid another $75 deductible and we agreed to stand by whatever the serviceman found, mouse damage or no mouse damage. They determined the unit quit running do to age and not because of a mouse. Total Protection Gold is dragging their feet and offering to replace my two stage Lennox air conditioning unit with one of the cheapest, lowest Consumer Reports rated single stage unit on the market and to use R22 refrigerant which will be restricted or outlawed by the EPA on January, 1, 2020 because it damages the ozone layer. If they would use the EPA approved 134A refrigerant the "A" coil in the furnace would have to be replace and would cost Total Protection Gold a few hundred dollars more. The R-22 refrigerant is being phased out so a 20 pound tank cost $400 just for the gas not including installation. I was told the gas if available after 2020 (4-1/2 years) could cost $1200 for a 20 pound tank. the current gas is about $75 for a 20 pound tank. When you call to place a claim you can only speak with a person with limited knowledge and if you ask to speak with a supervisor you get the run around. I have called numerous times a week about this claim and only was allowed to speak with a supervisor once and he gave me a direct phone number that does not go thru. I suppose he gave me the false phone number to get me off the phone. So beware of Total Protection Gold and check their approval record before signing up with this company. I plan to pay for the equipment and installation myself and then hire a lawyer to reclaim my costs. I've paid about $600 a year for several years to get treated like an idiot. The policy states Total Protection Gold will replace the covered system or appliance with a new one of comparable features, based on our research. So they determine what they think is equal.

So if you think that they replace AC you need to know they won't. Call your local Appliance Companies and they can tell you which warranty companies they work with that you may want to consider. The original company out there seems to be the first and the best. I am unsure as to if I can say the name in this report so the initials for that company are AHS. Good luck!

HMS Home warranty was great and I would recommend them.

I used HMS the first time last month and the guy who came was very good as well as the claims rep I spoke to.

The experience with TotalProtect has definitely been good although my last experience with one of the technicians was not the best. He would say he was coming out at a third time and always had an excuse in not making it but he would put me off so late. The quality of work was fine though, just getting in there was the problem.

HMS Home Warranty was provided with the house I bought last year. When I submitted a claim, I got an immediate email back with the claim number and the service provider to call. They got the problem fixed that same week. The claims representative didn't have issues in getting the appointment set up. The technicians were great: on time, professional, personable and knowledgeable. After the repair, I haven't heard back from them since, so everything went smoothly on that end. Problem solved!

We like our home warranty plan. It's easy, if something happens we can just call and usually TotalProtect can get it done right away. We would recommend them.

We've been using HMS Home Warranty for quite a few years. Submitting a claim with them has been rather tricky but it gets done. The claims representatives were fine. The technicians that serviced our appliances were very nice, and they did way more for us than the company did. They did great work for us. As far as I know everything was taken cared of so I'm satisfied with HMS.

Our experience in submitting a claim had been excellent. It's been an easy process and HMS people are very helpful. The representative I dealt with was courteous and was able to answer all of my questions. When I called, they set up the contractors to come out. The technicians were prompt when they got here, and took care of the problem right off the bat. We haven't had any problems at all. I'm recommending them.

Most times, my experience submitting a claim was good except for that one time I put one in and the claim went in, but when they sent the person that was supposed to get it fixed, they didn’t know what they were doing.

We were looking at HMS Warranty when we purchased our home, and got it through our realtor. Extremely easy to submit a claim. Didn't have to wait or anything like that. And claims reps were professional and the technicians were very knowledgeable. I drilled them with a bunch of questions that I had about how the refrigerator worked and they were very cooperative, answered all my questions. HMS Home is quick to respond and at one point, we had to order a part, and even the part came fast as well.

My original claim was placed early in May, where I needed someone to inspect my AC/Heat Pump unit because it was not working. They sent a service company to inspect the unit and the service company reported back that the AC/Heat Pump unit needed to be replaced. A month and a half has gone by and if I do not continuously follow up with HMS, I would receive NO updates on what is going on. Additionally, it turns out that incorrect parts were ordered but this was only determined when the service company arrived to try and do the installation. I continue to wait for the AC/Heat Pump to be replace with the summer heat sometimes rising above 103.

waiting for call from Serv tech, had to call TP to find out that the Serv Tech called did not service in my area. I do not like the new system TP has recently decided to use, before I could stay on the phone when I called to put in a claim and they would schedule with a company then and there. there should be a way for customer to call Techs and then TP take care of bill beyond our payout!

HMS Warranty was good. Every time I called, they did what they were supposed to do. Just the last couple of times, it's kind of confusing and I didn't think it should have gone that way. But it did what it did, and everything's working. I'd recommend them.

We have used TotalProtect twice for our garage doors and the air conditioner. We came home from vacation on a Saturday night around one o'clock and our air conditioning was out. It was frozen up and it had a leak outside the unit. We called TotalProtect at one o'clock in the morning. They called back that Sunday and got somebody out here on Monday. Our air condition guy was professional, did a real good job. I talked to my buddy who's an air conditioning guy down the road. He said he would've done the same thing. Good service.
