I used to have American Home Shield and wasn't satisfied with them and my brother told me that he had gotten Cross Country, which changed to TotalProtect. I selected the service provider because I had used them for air conditioning before. So I asked could that service provider come out because it’s his business so I trust him that he’s going to do a good job. He had employees when they installed it but he came out himself. I appreciate TotalProtect for letting me select when it involves heating or air because I know this company that’s part of the network.
Submitting a claim is fairly easy. Sometimes the results are not completely to my satisfaction but for repairs, they are. I thought it was a little pricey, out of my pocket cost, but last year I had to have a washer repaired and it was over a month. First they thought they could repair it, came out and had to order the part. Then the provider they selected said they didn't get the part and had for a whole week. Finally, they came out here and that wasn't even what was wrong with it. So they decided I needed a new one and it still took at least another two weeks.
The washer's fine because it was new but it's like older than me. It makes noise and takes forever to wash but I like it's got too many settings to suit me. I probably should've opted to cash out but I didn't think about it because I would've bought a more modern one. But it works. I'm going to replace it myself one of these days.
For my claim with the furnace, the quality of work is good. It didn't take that long but I still had $825 out of pocket cost and I thought that was a lot. I had thought the same thing with American Home Shield years ago when I had a water heater replaced out of my pocket cost for $325. I could've gone to Sears and bought one for less than that. I know furnaces are expensive but I didn't understand how much TotalProtect had actually paid.

I have a big home and I know that things break down from time to time, so I wanted to take advantage of TotalProtect to be able to save me money on repairs. Submitting a claim has been pretty good. There was a little mix-up one time, but I've used my warranty quite a bit, so overall I'm pretty happy. The claims rep was friendly and knowledgeable. The tech that came to service my appliances has always been pretty good, and they've always been able to take care of everything that I needed fixed.

The claims process with HMS Home Warranty was difficult because I called to get my air conditioner fixed, they sent someone out, the air conditioner worked for a month or so after they fixed it, and then it broke again. Then they called, but at that point they had nobody to send out, so I had to call my own person. But the person that I was going to call had to accept third-party billing but nobody else around here accepts third-party billing.
The other thing was that the groups that I did call after that came out the next day. In addition to that problem, I had to keep calling the warranty company back because every time they would find a provider for me, I would call that provider because they couldn't get a hold of them, and then I find out that that provider didn't service my area, so they had incomplete information about who services my area. So that was a giant hassle.
Then the problem was I called the warranty company back after the AC broke a third time, the company that did it acted completely unprofessionally towards me. They were horrible. They were lambasting me and telling me that I need to do all these things like make this company come out and fix it, that it wasn't their job and they weren't going to do it, and they refused to service things.
By the time that rolled around, I just threw my hands up and said, "I'm not dealing with this warranty." I literally had months left on my warranty and I would rather pay out of my own pocket than have to go through that process again. Those guys were terrible. The people that I dealt with at the home warranty company were okay, but it was the service providers that they chose that were unprofessional. I looked up the service provider on Google and they've got all terrible ratings. I don't understand how they pick these people.

I went with TotalProtect since things can go wrong in a house and right after I can come up with lots of money, I’ve got one thing that I pay. It was also recommended through Bank of America at the time when I had mortgage with them. I never had a problem submitting a claim with them since it’s simple. I call them, tell what the problem is, they give me a claim number and service person to call, and I’ve always got as long as one day’s wait. They come, do the job, I give them the base fee, and that’s it. Everything’s good with the claims rep too, and I’ve got no complaints.
I didn’t have a problem with the tech that came to service my appliance at the time, but he punched in the wrong numbers and I didn’t know that until later because the bank said that I’m paying with 2 checks, the same check number, to two different things but it wasn’t, so I had to reference my file to find out where the problem was. He wrote a check number that wasn’t the one I gave him and it was the only confusion I had with them. Other than that, I’ve been very satisfied. The warranty takes a load off my mind. If my washing machine goes, I don’t have to run right out to a store and buy one instantly. I’d call TotalProtect and I know exactly what I’m going to spend to get it fixed. I’d recommend them.

I had never used a home warranty before and was pleasantly surprised with HMS Home Warranty. I thought it was going to be more of a hassle but my experience with them was really good. I had two claims and had everything taken care of. One claim was for my ice maker. They were very efficient and called me back right away. The other claim was for my water heater. I was shocked that it took two weeks to get a call back but glad it wasn't an emergency. When the guy came out, he was good and very efficient.

Opened claim Nov.3rd, the pilot light was out on the water heater. Had the same technican out 3 times before changing to a new provider who came on NoV 20, found a leak in the tank and said the water needed to be replaced. TotalProtect is not authorizing this work. We are an elderly couple; my husband has had a stroke. We have been without hot water for most of November and this Thursday isThanksgiving.

My brother had been interested in acquiring a home warranty as he didn't have any kind of protection and wanted to have something in place. When he submitted a claim, the young man who came out and did the service was excellent. He was prompt and he gave us a call to tell us he would be on the way. He was very cordial, polite, courteous, and top notch. It was an all-around great call and a good experience with TotalProtect Home Warranty.

It's been awesome submitting a claim to TotalProtect. The claims representatives have always been professional and helpful. The last time the technician came, I had my mom come over and the technician was professional. She didn't have any problem with him. In the last case, the part was expensive so they were going to replace the washer and it was done with no hassle. They called me right away and told me what they were going to replace it with and gave me the information to look on the website to see if I was okay. It was very well handled and they were very efficient.

We've had the warranty with TotalProtect since we bought the house. Submitting a claim and talking to their guys has been very positive. They've been very helpful and quick to get the ball moving. The first two times, there were no problems or issues. This last time, it wasn't the best experience because the contractors didn't clean up after themselves and left a big mess. But my problem got fixed so ultimately, that's what mattered. I've recommended them to several friends because they make everything easy.

I moved into my house nine years ago and it had Old Republic. They sent me a letter in the mail and told me what the rates were and I was shocked. I went to my mortgage company and asked them if they have anybody that they'd recommend, and they recommended TotalProtect. With TotalProtect I can submit a claim either online or on the phone, so it's really easy and quick. Everybody I've talked to had been respectable and professional. Sears came out one time to fix my washer and the guy was very nice. He went out of his way to go get a part that was 30 minutes away from here to really make sure my washer was fixed for me and he cleaned up after himself and made sure everything was packed up. He talked me through the whole process of what he did.

I have heard of TotalProtect from one of my co-workers. Since it's the only one I knew, I chose it. Submitting a claim to them has been very easy, seamless, and no real issues. There have been a slight misunderstanding on what is covered but it all worked out just fine. The technicians are very kind folks. My wife worked with the first one and I did on the second one. He was absolutely top-notch. The work was done well and I have great peace of mind. It was a good experience and I'm very pleased with what I've received so far.

Up until recently TotalProtect was okay. However recently it's been terrible. We're actually experiencing a claim right now, and I'm very unsatisfied with the service. Two weeks ago on a Monday, we discovered that our washing machine was malfunctioning. We were getting a code on it on a Monday evening. I did look it up and found out what the code was. They told me it was a bad sensor. We called TotalProtect on a Tuesday morning. We got a name and a number of a local appliance place. We called and left a message with this place two or three times. We got no response. Wednesday morning, I called again to the appliance place and finally got somebody. They said, "we'll be out there about 11 o'clock."
They came out with an old machine. I told them what I found online. One of the servicemen told me that stuff is a bunch of crap. So the guys spent an hour and a half, which I understand since it was diagnostics. Then he finally came to the realization that the part that I said would be needed is actually the part that is needed. At this point in time, we have our dryer sitting on top of our washer. It's like an elite front loading washer. Before he left, he said they're gonna order the part. And I asked him how soon he could be back 'cause we needed a washer. He said, "I'd be back Friday with the part." I said, "Fine. How would you like to add the dryer on top because you need to get into it?" He says, "I'll bring my second man with me, it's all figured out or I'll do it myself."
I was trying to confirm the appointment, when they're gonna be there. We called the place all day Thursday. We still didn't hear anything back from them. This is the appliance place we're dealing with. I called the warranty place. They tried to call them apparently. Friday morning, I finally got to talk with the people - the person that owns this appliance place. I expected a phone call to tell me what's going on. Nobody made a phone call to me so I explained to the guy. He said, "Yes, sir, yes sir". And about 15 minutes later my wife gets a phone call from the warranty place. They said the guy can't come back out because he has nobody to help his guy get the dryer off of the washer. So they're gonna turn it over to somebody else. I'm pretty pissed at this point in time.
So Friday, the warranty place called my wife and she said something to the guy that was at the warranty place. And he made some smart comment about all the different places he's gone to trying to find one to replace it, like it was a burden on him to find us a new person to do our service. So he finally gave her the name of some place. I called the place and left a message. I told them what the previous vendor's findings were, taking the part, name, and number that they supposedly were going to order. I called the warranty place and told them, "I left the message for them and we've already had diagnostics. So I expect when they show up on Saturday morning, they'll have the part with them." They showed up Saturday morning. They never called me back. They showed up Saturday morning, they didn't have the part.
So to me, it was useless. The technician called the owner of the company. The owner of the company said they had to rerun all their diagnostics because the warranty company hadn't given them any information on what the previous vendor had found. So they're basically starting from scratch again. That vendor determined the same exact thing, that it was the switch that needed to be replaced. And of course they didn't have the switch because they have to order it. I've already looked the information up and told them where they could get it and how much it was. So now we have to make another appointment for them to come back out and fix it. No confirmation or help from the warranty company. At this point in time, I thought I had to speak to a supervisor. We've never spoken to a supervisor. Every time they've called us, it was supposedly a supervisor. They leave no voicemail, nothing with us.
They finally showed back up on Tuesday morning without confirmation, so my wife had to take off from work for this. They showed back up with the part. They put the part in, but it still doesn't work. They had to go out and find a different part. So now they're saying we need a control board for this thing. This was last Tuesday. We haven't heard anything since. My wife has called the warranty place several times and got no update. She got an update the other day, which was for Thursday, to say that they're looking into the situation.
I did call the vendor on Thursday morning to find out what was going on with this situation. He said that they turned all the information over to the warranty company who is researching the problem. I called the warranty company yesterday. They said they would have a final answer by the 16th, which is next week. They still have to order the part. So I'm talking another 1 to 2 weeks. They have yet to call us back and let us know what's going on. They may have called but they haven't left any messages on our phone because they're calling on our work hours. So at this point in time, I don't know whats going on. They will have a decision for me, the latest by the 16th and then well go from there.
Lord knows when my washing machine will be fixed. But when this is done and over with, I intend to go to PenFed and complain about them recommending this company. I'm liable to drop this company because we pay a lot of money every single month and this is taking way too long. No feedback, no calls, no confirmations from anybody. Well probably have to take off work for 4 days. We should be compensated for this somehow because we're sitting there waiting for people to show up. It's very frustrating.
It also brings to light, what if something really major breaks down like my heat or my water heater. How long will it take me to get that fixed? I just had a couple of other incidents with them. This service at the warranty company was very prompt, but I think some of the vendors they use weren't. Their responses are very slow to confirm anything with you. Once the people get there, they do a good job, except for these last people I dealt with.

We bought a house last July and as part of the sale requested the seller to give us a 1 year warranty on the appliances/AC/heater etc. In the first year, we had one issue with our AC and the service we got was horrible (not from HMS, but from the company they contracted to do our work). When renewal time came around, since we had an issue with our AC we decided to renew for one more year at a cost of over $600. Worst decision ever!
In August our freezer stopped working. We immediately called HMS and they had someone from Sears there within 3 days. Again we had issues with Sears (it was a Saturday they came in, but showed up 6 hours past their 2 hour window and would not provide any updates - so I wasted an entire Saturday in the house waiting). Turns out the thermostat quit and the man was able to replace it and got the fridge back up and working.
94 days later, the refrigerator and freezer stopped working. Another call - another 4 day wait for Sears. After an hour of diagnosis and constant "I just don't get it" he finally decided it was, again, the thermostat. Of course he did not even know where the thermostat was located. He had to call up someone to help, and they also had no clue - so I had to show them where in the freezer the thermostat was located.
Anyways -- of course he did not have one in stock, that would take a week to get and then it would be another 10 days before they could get out to our house again. And he wanted to charge me for another deductible. So I asked how many times they would fix the same problem on the same unit before they just replace the unit. The technician stated they would never replace the unit, HMS has to make the call.
I called HMS immediately, and put them on speaker so the technician could hear what I had been told several times (that HMS would replace the unit if the technician stated it needed to be replaced). HMS clearly stated this again, and the technician stated he has never and would never say a unit had to be replaced because only the insurance company (HMS) can make that call. I asked them if they both heard each other. Luckily they made it very clear that the call was being recorded (HMS was afraid of what the technician was going to say as they repeated 4 times that they were on a recorded line).
So -- you will NEVER get a new appliance regardless of how many times the same issue happens with your unit. I am a diabetic and had 3 bottles of insulin go bad because of this. I also have 2 children under 6. I cannot live without a refrigerator for more than 2 weeks waiting for a part. The only saving grace was HMS did allow us to cancel the ridiculous policy.
If you are buying a new house with appliances, this is a good deal if the seller will pay for it. Do NOT get it after it expires though. I lost over $500 in food for the 2 times the freezer/refrigerator quit working in 3 months. I was told it was NOT an emergency, even though I needed the unit to hold medication that is needed. I had to go out and buy a mini fridge to get by with the days without the fridge. In the end we just bought a new fridge and the insurance through Best Buy is much better than HMS and also much cheaper. Do not be fooled -- you will NEVER get a replacement regardless of whether or not you have a lemon.

I purchased a home on May 15th 2015. Within the first week of my move in, my water heater went out. I contacted HMS trying to get assigned a claim and an in-network contractor. After almost 3 weeks I still was not assigned a contractor to complete the replacement of the water heater. After 3 weeks of cold showers, I finally hired someone myself with the belief that MAYBE I'd be reimbursed for at least a portion of the $1500 I paid for a water heater and the installation. (I chose a contractor listed on Angie's List, if this matters at all).
After 7 months of lost claims, resubmitting, letters of explanation, etc. I finally received a letter asking me to rate HMS and the handling of my claim. REALLY? Keep in mind that I still haven't received an answer as to whether or not the claim would be paid or denied. I finally was told the claim was denied for not having waited for HMS to assign a contractor. Horrible customer service. Horrible home warranty company. Save your money and go with anyone else other than HMS.

They are irresponsible and their service has been the worst I could expect!!! They are not prepared to respond to important claims and they make you feel as if you are the responsible for their wrong equipment choices when it comes to replacements! !
I want them to reimburse me for all the costs I incurred when replacing the outdoor unit which I wouldnt have replaced with the one they offered if I had known I needed to replace also the indoor!! Also, to reimburse me for the $60 I paid when asking for a second opinion! !, and to give me the money to replace the unit on my own!!! Its only fair and I consider myself being too nice that I am not charging them with all the costs I went to undertake all these heat (mobile air conditioner, time devoted to solving this problem, cancellation of a party, headache pills because it was too hot, etc.

I've been very happy with how easy it is to submit a claim to the things that are covered. The most recent claim we had, the tech person came out and did the repair. It took him a couple of trips because they had to order a part. But when it was all said and done, they never actually gave us a statement for their work which was weird. But other than that, they've always been courteous, responsible and the work is done very well. Also, the claims reps are always very helpful and knowledgeable. And I thought, "Well wait a minute, the lady told me that they would cover this had that been true." That wasn't what it was but it's still a red flag because apparently, I was blatantly lied to. My initial claim number is **, given to me in July, then I was given a second claim number **, when a different vendor came. I have a refrigerator that freezes (in the area where the fan is) and as it freezes the temperature rises. A technician has seen the problem three times yet I have been requested to yet again let the unit freeze over. I realized that when the drawers are out the temperature stays steady. (I saw this when a tech came, took the unit apart and NEVER RETURNED.) Why must I keep showing the problem? A technician has been to my home SEVEN times for my refrigerator problem.
A simple problem was compounded by the initial tech and nothing has gone right since. The first vendor came three times, the second one came three times, a third vendor came because the second vendor was busy (he left the unit in pieces and had me wait all day but did not return as promised) and the second vendor returned and replaced a part. I removed my food and the draws and by morning the temperature had stabilized to 37/36. Why must I let this unit freeze over yet again so a technician can see it? I have done that too many times already. I want this unit replaced so I can celebrate the holiday and not have coolers in my kitchen area as I do now.

When I first had this warranty it says, "Everything treated within the four walls. It didn't matter the age of the product, it would be covered." I've had issues with several appliances including our microwave, refrigerator, and stand-up freezer that TotalProtect doesn't cover. Our bath plumbing and toilet are also within these four walls, so they should be covered as well.
But as far as our technician goes, he has been servicing us for the last four years and he does it all. He's excellent. I tell TotalProtect whenever I call to send him here unless he's not doing this anymore. He knows what he's doing and he shoots me straight here at the house. If I have a question, he answers it. As far as TotalProtect taking care of what I've put claims in for, it's been taken care of. I usually get the voice-activated system when I make a claim, which is irritable because I want to talk one-on-one. I am very outspoken and I’ll ask questions and I’ll ask why and why not. Their online claims system routinely mistakens me for someone else with the same last name. I've heard about TotalProtect from Bank of America but when I called the representative she said that I do not have to go through Bank of America. She helped me talk directly to TotalProtect and promised that there'll be $25 gift card, but that never ever came.
My experience when submitting a claim with TotalProtect is very smooth, fast and pretty. I call the number and tell the agent who I am. When I have the case established, then that's it. The claims representative were courteous and able to answer all of my questions. Some technicians were more helpful than others but they were honest. They just tell me the problems. But prices sometimes can be higher than the average. Sometimes I had to ask my friend to come and help to get things fixed, which is less expensive. I have no problem with TotalProtect but I hope that the service could improve. I am still satisfied with them and I even introduced my friend to contact Total Protect.

Submitting a claim was very easy. I call in, they give me a claim number and then sometimes they give me the company to call myself to make arrangements for them to come out and service me. Sometimes they call ahead and have the service man call me. TotalProtect is fine, but the people they're sending are horrible. This last time was a total disaster. They sent out a plumber, supposedly to fix the leak under the sink. Two days later, it's leaking again, so I was told by TotalProtect to call the plumber back out again. I called the plumber back and he looked at me and says, "Well, it's leaking from another place, so you have to call TotalProtect," hoping to get another estimate from somebody else.
As far as I'm concerned, the gentleman that they sent out did not correct the problem that they were assigned. New people were supposed to be here yesterday, and they can't come until sometime today but they are not sure if they can make it today. I got to pay another $75 upfront for the new guys. Overall I'm happy with TotalProtect but I wish they would do more.

All the appliances I had eventually wear out or get a problem and it's so expensive to call a man in to fix it. A lot of times, they can't fix it. They will say, "Well, you need one, sir. We can sell you one." And then I got to go through a million-dollar harassment thing with them. I found TotalProtect and listed everything that would cover my house. There was no problem in submitting a claim. I call up, get a claim representative and they take care of me real fast. They ask me what the problem is and then they come back and say, "Well, we're going to send these people out. This is their number and they'll call you." The next thing I know, I get a call from the people saying 60 bucks and they'll fix it.
I've had no problem with every technician that I've had, especially when they come local. They're very polite and fast. In fact, I filled out a survey online and put my comments in there, that I highly recommended them. I shared it to a friend of mine and he is going to try to get it, and a couple of other people. They want to see the pamphlet on it. I take the one I got when I talk to other people. If they're interested, I show them the pamphlet, tell them my experiences and pass it on from there. Usually, they pick it up because they think it's a good deal too.The people there are great and I can't ask for a better service. They were efficient and explained everything to me. If they didn't have the part with them, they would get back in a day or two.
The experience I've had with TotalProtect is excellent. Everything that I have called for, they've come out right away and fixed it. They brought electricians, plumbers and appliances out right there all the time. I can't be any happier with them. They go out of their way to help me. When I do need them and they give me somebody to come fix my problem and it's way out there, I tell them, "That's a little too far. You got somebody who's more local?" Right away they got somebody else, and they handle the problem right away..

Maybe due to technology, they improved it, and the replacement unit did not come with one because it didn't need it but I was not informed and had to call and ask. He should have told me what he did, step by step, since he took it to do the repair. Other than that, I didn't have problems with TotalProtect.

If I want some more than that job, they’d pay more for it.
TotalProtect's technicians are very friendly, courteous, polite and well-mannered. When they come, they know what they're doing and are good about giving me the right kind of information. We learned about TotalProtect from my mortgage company at the time and got them to be our warranty provider. I had a previous provider when I first moved into this home but I was very upset with them. They didn't honor a couple of claims we had like the ice maker of our refrigerator; hence I didn't renew with them afterwards.
I'm very pleased with everyone at TotalProtect. Their claims representatives were very courteous and the technicians were very nice - though the first of the two that came for a claim didn't solve the problem. The only thing I had a problem with was when GE got paid for installing a product which they never installed, which I got someone else to do it. TotalProtect Home Warranty came in an informative newsletter from my mortgage company, Nationstar Mortgage. The property that it was on is a rental property and I bought it as a new home, but things age, and I didn't want to find myself being hit with a whole bunch of replacement items. Everything was working fine, but I figured now is the time to take a warranty on it and if the mortgage company was recommending them, they must be a reliable organization.
Submitting a claim was a little slow to begin with but once I got to talk to somebody who seemed to be in authority and who could handle the problem, it got handled pretty quickly. I had trouble reaching someone who seemed ready to do something about it. It took several phone calls, but when I did reach someone, he was very efficient and he took care of the problem.
The service person, Scott, was very good. I was very pleased with him. He was a local individual who is in the heat and air. This was an air conditioner. He's in that business and seemed to know what he was doing, he was on time with the appointments and got the job done in a short period of time. He checked both units out, told me what was wrong, made a recommendation and presented two options: either replace the individual parts that needed to be replaced or the entire unit. Apparently, the warranty company figured it was more effective, efficient and even cost-wise, so they replaced the whole unit which I was very satisfied with.
I've dealt with insurance companies in the past and their business is not to make payment but to not pay anything they don't have to. I understand that, but I would consider it a normal situation as far as dealing with a warranty. It's what I expected. I'm happy with them. They were great, and the only thing I could suggest on is they need to be a little more receptive to the initial contact when somebody has a problem and not make them call three times to get anything done about it. In the end, everything turned out to be done to my satisfaction. It just took a little more effort than I thought it should have. They ended up doing the right thing and they took care of the problem and I'm satisfied with what was done. It wasn't perfect, but it was good.

The guy mentioned to us if we could give him the gas money for his trip. I got HMS Home Warranty when we listed our house for sale about a year and a half or two years ago. I've had two really good claims and one that was terrible over several years. When we first listed the house, we've hired HMS Home Warranty and they did an all-house inspection. They found a hole in the heat exchanger. It was the middle of winter. It took them 30 days to get heat in our house. That was terrible. Eventually, when push came to shove, the warranty saved us a lot of money and it was great. But it was a nightmare to get through.
We had two other claims. That didn't discourage us because we signed up for our new place and we had a furnace issue and the ice maker issue. It was phenomenal. We made a phone call and the guy was out. Somebody else told us we needed a new door and somebody else told us we needed a new furnace. We got both of them fixed. The technicians were fantastic. They give you so much allowance in case they have to take things out and it's more complicated than it seems.
Submitting the claim wasn't hard at all. I called up and told AHS what the situation was and they said, "Okay, here's the number that you can call for these folks here and get an appointment for that time right here. Here's your claim number." So, it was pretty simple when they came in. They asked me my claim number, get the job and pay them my deductible and that was it.

I decided to look into acquiring a home warranty because my friend had one and he was giving me favorable comments about TotalProtect, so I was happy about it. Claims process was not very difficult. But I was not satisfied because I did not think that I would have to pay as much as I had to pay. I thought I only had to pay my monthly services.
First I had a problem with my air conditioning, first time I used it and they let me know that one of the units in my home was not covered. And I was under the impression that if a unit was a fixed unit and not a portable unit, it was part of the house, it was covered. Well I had a mini split in the lower portion of my home. I had a conversion of my garage to a living space and I had a heater/air conditioner that was called a mini split that was installed, and they told me they couldn't fix it. They couldn't work on it because it wasn't covered so that kind of bothered me. That really bothered me because no one ever asked me what appliances I had in my home.
I have an electric range. I have two refrigerators and freezer. I thought I wouldn't have any difficulty which is one of the reasons why I joined TotalProtect. I used to have Sears where they would send me a bill every year for two or three years service warranty. And when TotalProtect sent somebody out, they sent the same Sears repairman to my home. And so I had to pay him a fee and Im already paying my monthly fee, so I didn't think that was fair.
The service technician was very nice. He was informative and he knew exactly what he had to do. He fixed an icemaker and he had everything that was needed. Like I said he was very helpful. The quality of the work that he performed was wonderful. He gave me some information about certain things that I needed to do in reference to satisfy another problem that I had with my water line, the line that supplies the water for the icemaker and the drinking water. And that was a separate thing. I was very satisfied with him.
I would recommend them to a friend but I would have to make sure that they were aware of the fact that they needed to fully understand the contract that they got into, in reference to what expenses they had to incur or would incur if they needed repairs done. Like I didn't think I would have to pay the money that I paid for the services when they come out and do it.
The guy who came out and did my air conditioning, I mean he told me, "Well you got the wrong size unit in here". Well if TotalProtect had somebody to check the appliances and everything that I had when I first applied, they would have known then exactly what I had. He says, "Well this is not the right size unit for your home". I had never had any problems with it cooling my home or anything but he says "Well no, this is the wrong one and you need to get another compressor, this, that and the other". I think that they should be a little bit more explicit about things or they should know more about what you have in your home before the warranty is accepted by them, your business is being accepted. The work was fine but I just think there should be more explanations. I am satisfied with the work that was done and when it was done. But I wasn't satisfied with the money that I had to pay.

My second claim has to deal with my range. It kept cutting off. I filed a claim, a service guy was sent, spent 5 minutes, said I needed a new sensor. He ordered the part but that did not fix the problem. They sent a different repair vendor that said I needed a new range. I have all Whirlpool appliances but they wanted to replace it with a Hotpoint, even though they offer a discount on Whirlpoool appliances. I ended paying extra to get Whirlpool range, purchased and installed by Sears. They offered to provide a credit of $493. My stove was purchased on 8/5/15 and I emailed all supporting documents to them after the stove was installed on 8/17/15. I received a reply email immediately that indicated it would take 4-6 weeks to process a refund. I am now on week 10. I am still waiting on the refund check. I have spoken with countless customer service people who tell me it is a back log in Support Services. I can't speak with Support Services because I was told they do not have phones. I finally spoke with a supervisor , Mike at ext **. He told me the check would be mailed on 10/21/15 and if I did not have it by 10/27/15 to call him. I called Mike and left a message yesterday. No return call. I called today and was told it was mailed on 10/21/15. I have yet to receive the refund and question whether it has even been mailed. Having a home warranty saves money in the long run so when I first heard about TotalProtect from my insurance company and my mortgage company, I signed up. When something breaks down, I call them, tell them what the problem is, and they give me a claim number. They tell me who the company that's gonna come and do the repairs are. They're courteous and able to answer all of my questions. I've never had a problem with them. In a lot of cases, they contact them for me and they schedule a time.
The contractor comes and I write my deductible check. The service technicians have always been very professional, very thorough, and they explained what the problem is, and they explained what the process is in case an item has to be replaced. They fix the appliance or whatever the situation is, and overall it has worked out really well. In one case they had to replace the garbage disposal. Everything else, they've been able to fix. I've used them quite a bit, so overall I'm getting value for the money so far. The experience has been positive. The only thing I did not like is that they raised the deductible. It used to be $60 and it went up $75. Other than that, everything has been fine.

It took me 3 weeks to get my hot water heater replaced. Claims never put the order in - although I was told several times they had - and then when they did they ordered the wrong unit. On top of all that I finally paid almost $300 out of pocket. That included my $75.00 deductible, a $50 haul away of the old unit fee, $50 for the hookup and $100 for an expansion pan they said was an "Upgrade" but was needed to meet code. Now that I want to cancel my contract with them they tell me I might owe another $300 because my contract had renewed in July and the monthly payments I had made since then weren't enough to cover their costs for the hot water heater! I would have been better off never having had a contract with them and just brought a hot water heater at Lowes and had a plumber install it. I would have had hot water a lot sooner for less. I've had other home warranty companies and never had issues like I've had with Total Protect. Piece of crap and a total rip off. Don't bother spending your money or negotiating this home warranty into your closing contract. It is not worth it. Anything you may need they will find a way not to cover and you will be spending 100.00 on a deductible for EACH claim area. By the time you get finished paying out all of your 100.00 deductibles for each claim area that you do not get back when they deny your claim, you would have saved money by just paying for the repair yourself.

We have had about 8 claims over the years. And everyone of them has been taken care of. We have even used the things called Buyer's Guide, where as a customer you have access to the wholesale company that you can buy. We bought a new electric cook stove. That's a benefit of the TotalProtect. If you need to buy an appliance, they gave you a password then you call and then you charge it to your card. But they still ship the item to you and that's a benefit.
I do have one thing I have to have them come out and check - it is our dishwasher. They came out and checked it about a year ago and we thought it’s fixed but then wife tells me that it’s not taking all the water out and it’s leaving water in the bottom. So, it just means that I have to call them, have them come back out and look at it. I hate to do that in the sense that I just had the air conditioner replaced about 30 days ago. I do not want some Jack Lake from out of town and that's the way it's going to be. If they keep this up, I'm going to cancel out. One of the best plumbers that I had quit doing business with HMS because they weren't timely on paying the claims.
I also had a call one time on my Viking stove. Five days later, Sears called and said, "We don't work on those." So I had to call back because they did not know at HMS who sold these Viking stoves. We were out the oven for seven days instead of one day. Sears is not a responsive service. I want HMS to give me a list of people that says who takes care of what. One person from the party I had been to mentioned about TotalProtect Home Warranty when everybody started talking about their problems with their HVAC's. I also have had some issues in the past with HVAC systems. I went online, looked it up and saw that they charge a reasonable 75 bucks a month. It is a good deal especially if you had some serious appliance use. Their vendors were very professional, informative, can be questioned and tell you what's going on. They may give you some hints. "If you want to do it yourself, it's just this little micro switch here. Check that." I'm an engineer so I like that stuff. It makes sense that some people would be probably touched. I am having a very good experience with TotalProtect. It's just great.
They rate the problem and try to take care of it almost as soon as they can even in times of high traffic times like winter, after a heavy rain or even a hurricane. We haven't experienced any of those here but we have some tough storms. Anytime I've had a problem they hook me up with a couple of vendors. The repairmen that came in were great. No complaints. Everything's been wonderful. I think everyone should take TotalProtect as their insurance and I do mention it to a lot of people. They don't believe it but I talk to them about it.

My air conditioner/heater unit quit working and it needed replacing. Total Protect contacted a contractor to do the work and now I have been informed that I will have to pay the contractor almost $8,000 out of my pocket to get the work done. They tell you a $75 deductible is all you have to pay when you purchase the warranty so I was floored when I heard this. They only pay for a new unit and that is all they pay for. No installation, no crane to put the unit on my roof, no permits, nothing to move and hook up the electricity and gas, no ductwork replacement( my ductwork is 45 years old and will cost $4,500 to replace). They are only paying $2,600 for the unit. I feel like I've been had. It's been 5 weeks since my unit stopped and still nothing done. Anyone considering buying from Total Protect/Cross Country I advise to find someone else.

My problem with TotalProtect is with the technician that they sent. He was strictly in it for the money and was after any additional fee he could charge above what I will pay. He came in to fix the faucet and a leak in the bath tub and he wanted to tear out the whole wall and redo all of the piping. He wants to run up a $500 bill for me (and also about that much for TotalProtect) and I told him I wasn't interested. I gave him the $75 and he left. I told this to the agent there and she agreed that I could go ahead and have someone local and fix it which I did and they paid him and it cost $90.
I'm also not real pleased with their work. I had one tech come in to fix my air conditioner. The air conditioner was leaking and he replaced the coil above the heater with a smaller coil which didn't match up well with the heater that was mounted directly below it. He didn't turn the heater on to see if it would work even if they're all one unit. I called and the man that came in was mortified by the fact that the guy didn't even look at the heater when he installed the air conditioning. So he installed a smaller heater unit than what was in there before at same BTU but it turns out its smaller and he had to jury-rig the attachment to the air conditioner. So I've got a hodge podge in the AC and now I'm not sure how lucky I'm going to be with all that mess.

HMS Home Warranty has been very good. Their claim process is very easy and their representatives are very good. I've had a few claims and they've all been wonderful. I just call, tell them the problem and they'll send the appropriate person out. The technicians they sent were very businesslike and the quality of their work were very good. I appreciate that they know what needs to be done and if they will replace something, they don't lie about it. If it needs to be replaced, they'll replace it for the same quality that you have. I like that. Overall, it was excellent.

Process of submitting a claim with TotalProtect was very easy. They just asked for a little bit of information about what it was that I have a problem with and they arranged to send a company out. The company they sent out was very good. I've had them here twice now. They call first and make arrangements for when they're going to come and always fixed the problem right away. I'm very happy.

HMS Home Warranty were prompt in responding to my request to have someone sent out, and they came up with a good electrical company. The people at Simon Electric are extremely courteous and very consumer-friendly.

I filed a claim because my air condition unit was not working properly. I had my unit serviced by one of their companies not even 6 months ago. Another company came out and stated that my drain pipe(on the unit) was clogged and that my fan motor and control board needed to be replaced due to water from the drain pipe leaking. I was told that my ac nor my heat would work. Total Protect denied the claim because the pipe was supposedly clogged and that's not covered. The drain pipe is on the unit inside of the house and it was nothing that I did or could have done to prevent this. If my unit was serviced not 6 months ago, this should have been detected/noted at that time and should have been covered. I cancelled my plan and had another repair man come to my home. My unit is now working and my fan motor nor my control board had to be replaced.

I got a Total Protect contract initially with my home purchase. I have maintained the contract for many years since because of the prompt and full response and service I have received on the rare occasion that I have had a claim. I have never had any complaints with the company or any of the service providers they have sent over the years.

Because of the expense of maintaining a home, I considered getting a home warranty and TotalProtect happened to be the first one I saw in an advertisement. I've had some problems with their service and it was not a very satisfying experience. The technician that they sent out did not do a very good job, so I called and told them that it didn't work and that I didn't want to pay for it, and it was solved. Since then, I've had good results with the program. Overall, my experience with TotalProtect Warranty was adequate.

TotalProtect was a good recommendation offer so I took it. I had an excellent experience since submitting my claim was very easy and their reps were very helpful and down to earth. Altogether, it was a positive engagement and they were able to answer all of my questions. Also, the technician was good and seems to be very knowledgeable. TotalProtect is a good company that is easy to deal with so I'm very satisfied. I'm able to recommend it to some other folks.

My microwave was broken, and the tech replaced an electronic control panel, and then left. However, the microwave still did not work. The tech returned a week or so later to put in a new electronic control panel, but he forgot to bring the panel. I am still waiting to get this fixed.
I also reported a problem with my washing machine. On the first visit the tech said it needed to be replaced, and I would hear from Total Protect. But I never heard from them. The tech guy came a second time and this time he said a $6 part was needed to fix it, and this was on order. The tech guy came a third time, but without the part, which he now said was not needed since the washer was, indeed, broken (his first diagnosis), and it needed to be replaced. He again said that Total Protect would be in touch with me. Someone did call and left a message, but when I called Total Protect back the customer service person could not makes sense of the report she was reading in my file and said I should call back later. I did call back today and was told that the problem with my washer was not covered.
Based on my experience with this claim, I found Total Protect to be unprofessional, unreliable, disorganized, and untrustworthy and plan to cancel my policy.

We have HMS Home Warranty and it's been fantastic. They've helped us so much and they were wonderful to work with. I never saw a warranty company so eager to help. When I couldn't get the right electrician, I called them and they called me back and found me one. It was phenomenal. We've had the house for almost three years and have had them since we bought the house. We were new to the area and didn't know anyone and they've helped us four times. I always push HMS. We've renewed them twice already. Every time the renewal comes up, I say, "Just renew it," and don't even question it.

TotalProtect signed me up and told me to contact them which I did. They just didn't respond and it went to voicemail. When I was able to talk to them, they said they will contact me to set up an appointment. 3 days passed by, nothing happened. Then they gave me a company to do the repair but they can't deliver. They came on the agreed time to do the repair and were able to identify the issue right away. They spent a good amount of time trying to fix it but after a couple of days, it went back to how it was. So I called them again and they said that they have to order the part and when it arrives, they will come back to fix it. It took 2 weeks for the part to arrive and overall, it took them 3 weeks to get everything fixed which is a lot longer than it needed to. It's not acceptable. Except for that, their team has been very nice, polite, courteous, and knowledgeable.
