I have paid $50 a month to cover numerous components of a property for almost 3 years. I have had 2 claims within that time. The first claim was for the HVAC and paid the $75 deductible for the contractor to straighten a drain pipe. The second claim was 2 weeks ago for a ceiling fan. Again I paid $75 for the contractor to tell me that he is not sure what the issue is but would like to first replace the control. 2 weeks later (yesterday) I received a call from the warranty company stating that the control is considered a remote even though it's actually a hard wired wall control. The representative that I spoke with new nothing about electricity and seemed very confused when I told her there is no remote but a hard wired control. She was just confident that it wouldn't be covered but has no idea what I was talking about. I asked to speak with someone else about my warranty plan and possible cancellations and she disconnected the call. $75 later and $50 a month for 3 years I have to hire someone else to fix something that is covered under my policy. I am canceling this policy today!

I’ve always been happy with TotalProtect. It’s just when they don’t know what to do that I get somebody else. Once, a technician wasn’t doing too well, so I got another one. But apart from that, they’re really nice. They always email me and tell me that they’re sorry that I’m experiencing difficulties, and that they’ll be getting somebody on it immediately. They’re really attentive that way, and they respond pretty fast.

With TotalProtect, it was easier to deal through the escrow. Also, the technician they sent for our claim was pretty good and he answered the questions I had. The quality of work performed was great. I have recommended them to a few friends as well.

HMS was excellent in every respect. I highly recommend the folks who attended to us. They did it with excellence and in a right amount of time, we couldn't have been happier. The manners of the serviceman were impeccable. He was efficient, excellent and he did not attempt to do what he could not do and called in for advice from others when he needed help.

When I purchased my home, I required it to include a warranty. So the seller purchased HMS Home warranty through Karges Realty, and I continued it since I trusted Karges’ opinion. However, I've been very frustrated with them when submitting claims. It’s been a long process. I bought a replacement for my washing machine that went out back in July and I only got my final check yesterday for my reimbursement. It took me three attempts of emailing them receipts. The gentleman they sent out to inspect the washing machine lied to them and it held up my check for six months. He told them I only paid him $45 when I had a $100 receipt from him, but he did not write my name nor my address on it. So I wrote my address on it and re-emailed it in.
Moreover, they want to replace my high-efficiency washer with the standard washing machine that uses ten times more energy. They wanted to give me a piece of garbage. I went online and everybody said, "Don't buy this washing machine," and they were like, "That's the only one we have in our warehouse." So I told them that I’ll buy one and send them a receipt and that they’ll reimburse me and they agreed.
And then the first time the oven part of my range went out, it took them almost two months to fix it. When I called and left a message for Elite Appliance, the one they keep sending out here, they never returned my call. So the last time I had a gentleman out for my dishwasher, I said, “I absolutely do not want Elite Appliance in my house ever again.” I said this guy has been screwing around too long. HMS send me out a Sears representative ‘cause I have all Sears products in my house, and he was fabulous.
The contractor they sent from A&E who did my dishwasher was very respectful, kind, nice and ordered me a part I needed. As soon as that got in, they got the guy back over here to put it in and he went ahead, ordered it and they showed up in the mail and he showed me how to install it before he left and said call him if I need him to put it in, which went in fine. So I like A & E, but I absolutely do not like Elite Appliance and I did not like how HMS treated me in regards to Elite Appliance. Over five of my hours have been lost sitting on the phone with them in the last few months and I was pretty unhappy.

We bought a house last August and as part of the sale requested the seller to give us a 1 year warranty on the appliances/AC/heater etc. In the first year, we had one issue with our refrigerator and the service we got was horrible (not from HMS, but from SEARS they contracted to do our work). Sears didn't show up for the 1st appointment and they give you a window of 8am to 5pm. Took the day off and no show. It took 10 days to schedule another appointment and another day off to wait for sears and when the technician showed up he ordered 2 parts and had them mailed to my house. Told me to call when I receive the items.
It took 2 more weeks to get a technician to come and install the parts but while installing a part I heard a loud noise and the door on my fridge will not close. The technician asked me to call and make another appointment. It took 12 days to get someone out and I had to throw all my food and buy a mini fridge, in the mean time they had to order another part. Sears repair is horrible and they don't care, period!!!
A few month later my dishwasher was not drying and the touchpad had a problem. When I made a claim I insisted not to use Sears and they had another company which I liked. The tech. ordered parts and told me he will call when they arrive. Received a call from HMS telling me they have to replace my Bosch Dishwasher (I assume it was cheaper to replace it because the Bosch parts are expensive). They didn't give me a choice and wanted to replace it for a cheap white version when all my appliances are stainless steel, told me it is their decision and I have to accept whatever they decide.
I decided to cancel that ridiculous policy from that joke of a company. DO NOT buy a policy with HMS before reading the small print that says they will rip you off. If you are buying a new house with appliances, this is a good deal if the seller will pay for it. Do NOT get it after it expires though. I lost over $500 in food. I was told it was NOT an emergency. Buy is much better than HMS and also much cheaper. Do not be fooled. They will replace your appliances with a lemon.

Many years ago, my sister told me about TotalProtect. I then got dissatisfied with American Home Shield when they changed their rules without telling anyone so I switched. Overall, it's a good system and works well. You got to be aware of the clauses or read the information and be familiar with what you're putting in a claim for. Claim submission is easy. The technicians are great as well as the work performed.

Total Protect should change there name to Partial Protect because and soon as you need them to cover an failed appliance, they come up with every excuse as to why they can't cover it. When I purchased the warranty with them over the phone, they did not advise me that if you have two of the same units. either A/C Or Heating and two water heaters in your home that only ONE will be covered unless you add additional appliances to the policy. So, one of my hot water heaters went out and I called them to place a claim, so they replace the hot water heater and I was still out of $435.00 when it was done. So my main hot water heater pilot light went out 3 months later and I called to place a claim and it was a nightmare trying to get them to follow up on the claim. The company that they sent out to see what the problem was collected the initial call fee $85 dollars(Fast Lane). Fast Lane diagnosed the problem which is a simple $10 part to fix said they had to get authorization from Total Protect. Well Total Protect denied the claim because they said it wasn't covered because they didn't know I had 2 water heaters. So I called TP to see what was going on and they read me the fine print that said only one hot water heater is covered under your policy. WHAT!!! What am I paying for when it states on the contract All of these appliances are covered. She said you can add it now, but we cant cover it now because it is a failed appliance. So I told her to Cancel my plan and I will find a better one.

I went into the internet and then looked into TotalProtect, it said that it's into insuring all the appliances and whatnot. I thought that’ll be a pretty good idea and said "you know what, I'm going to sign up." It's reasonably priced for a monthly fee and when things go out, I'm covered. It was awesomely easy submitting a claim. My first went out at the wrong time.
I called and they sent over their guy; I wasn't home, I was 300 miles away but my house is automated, so I told him to give me a call when he's standing in front of my garage and he did. I opened it up, kept an eye on him and mostly because I have cameras all throughout my house when he'd need anything, he'd talk to it and give me a call so he did that. Then he checked it out and said "yes it's done for" and gave even the option of a replacement or so if I needed to upgrade. I said that I’d do that and they were out there to fix it Friday after Thanksgiving. They came in and so I replaced it and had to run it. It was excellent and I'd refer them to everybody I know.

I didn't have any hassle in submitting claims with HMS Home Warranty. I've filed three claims. My interaction with the HMS claims representative was very good. In my most recent claim, the first company that HMS sent over came, collected $100, and left. They didn't give a diagnosis. They only said, "It's totally broken before. I will not touch it." And they walked out. Then I had to call back HMS again. They listened and then they gave me another contractor.

Submitting a claim with TotalProtect Home Warranty was very easy. It all went smoothly with their claims representatives and all technicians that came have all been nice. I'm very happy with the quality of their work. The electricians were fantastic too. When I needed a heating and cooling person, they were there that day. But I did have a problem with TotalProtect. They say they cover seven days a week and 24 hours a day, but they don't. I had two emergencies and I could not get a plumber on a holiday or a weekend. One was a minor one and I was able to live with. But the other one, I had to call on someone that I had used in the past and the bill was over $300. Some of the service providers don't work on even though they say they have an emergency number. Nobody called me back.

I placed a claim for my washer and dryer on 11/17/15 and it took 4 days for a service person to get out to our home, another week for parts to come in and 3 more days for them to return to repair. Our dryer is worse off then it was before so I called Total Protect and they called the service co and so have I with zero results! Now TP is telling me it will be 24-48 hours before they can FIND another service co to take care of my problem then an appointment with them will have to be set and so on!!! Almost one month from date claim placed and still not repaired!! Their customer support is awful and who has only one service co in an area in contract with them! Ridiculous. Will definitely be canceling when repair is finally complete!

I've had some services with TotalProtect and so far, they are good. The first claim I had was on a weekend. I called and got through right away and they gave me a claim number of this plumbing company or plumber. They came out, did the work and repairs, and I paid them $85 and that was good. Then, one time I had to call but it was on the weekdays and it's a little hard to get through, but once you do, they take total care of you.
There's this one other time when they gave me a plumber. I had a stuck toilet then, and when I called the plumber, he said that he didn't have a snake, the basic plumbing stuff, and they're gonna do liquid plumbing. I can put Drano in my sink on my own. Under any system you got some good providers and some bad ones, but I've been looking to get the good providers and I could tell in the phone conversation that it was gonna be a bad provider, so they never came out to my house. I called TotalProtect back and had them give me another plumber. They gave me Finish Line Plumbing because I had them before. They're the good one, and they came and did the work.
I wish I had TotalProtect before and would recommend them in a heartbeat. I have Michael & Sons who come out and take care of my stoppage and do the yearly check. But then, if there is a problem, you have to pay and get only a discount on it, unlike, TotalProtect, who will totally cover the items. So cost-wise, it was a great value. They fix whatever the repair is.

I had a home warranty with TotalProtect.com since March of 2015. I had them deduct the monthly premium from my checking account. During the year I used them for a dishwasher repair. It took them 3 separate visits to correct the problem. But I endured and they finally fixed the problem.
I sold the home and prior to the closing date. On 11/11/2015 I called Total Protect to discontinue my policy on 11/20/2015. The rep that I spoke with confirmed that my most recent payment had just been withdrawn from my bank account, but he assured me I would be credited a prorated amount back to my bank account. He gave me a confirmation number regarding the status change and the refund of premium. On 11/30 after not seeing a credit in my account, I called them again, this time to be told that they do not return unused premiums. At this time I learned that the first rep actually cancelled my policy on 11/11, which was the day I called, and not on 11/20 as per my request. I asked to speak to a manager/supervisor and she said one would call me. I did receive a voice mail from a supervisor a few days later. I have left 3 messaged for him (Edward) over the last week and he is not returning my call.
I have NEVER, in 40+ years of doing business with all types of providers, insurance companies, etc., been told that unused or over-paid premiums will not be returned. If Total Protect (part of Cross Country Home Services) is so broke or desperate that they need to keep my $54.95 to keep their boat afloat, then they are welcome to it. Total Protect is keeping money that is not rightfully or legally or morally theirs to keep.
I always paid the premiums on time, I always paid a deductible for service visits, they always got their fees in advance. And now it's time for them to return the one month unused premium, and they won't call me back.
Their confirmation number for the cancellation and the supposed return of premium is **.

I called in a repair for my heater. This had been the 4th time my heater/AC had needed repair. Then after a week of no answers from the company that they sent out to review my claim, Total Protect got back to me and declined my claim stating it was because the part failed due to lack of maintenance. I was read back the section of the contract that stated that they wouldn't cover in a very rude way and then when I asked for a manager or supervisor I was just sent out to another rep. I called and cancelled my plan. I think it is ridiculous to pay month after month for a service that will deny a claim. I later came to find out that the part they were quoting me as being non-working was working after all. I think it was a scam. This was not the first bad service I had from this company since the previous claim was also a terrible experience. I do not recommend Total Protect or any of the following vendors in the Houston area: Appliance Guru or PML AIR CONDITIONING, INC

My heat pump stopped working on November 24, 2015 and I called HMS to file a claim. The service provider came out immediately and advised I would need a new unit and they began the process with HMS to have it replaced. Day after day I waited to hear something back and each time I called HMS they were waiting for something. Either a fax or call from the service provider or a response from a different department. I am a single mother with a young child. I bought a small space heater and we are sleeping in the living room. I called every day for an update and the company had no sense of urgency. I was told that because the temperature was not below freezing my situation was not considered an emergency and that I had to wait the minimum of 24-48 hours after each step or response. This went on for days.
On 12/3 I called HMS for an update and was told that my claim was not denied but they were not going to approve the estimate from the service provider that they sent out to fix it because it was too much. I was told the process would need to begin all over again and they would send a new provider out. I called several times and have no update, the nights have been below freezing, and I have asked to speak to a supervisor on several occasions and keep being told one will call me back. I have heard nothing. Today, December 7th marks the 14th day I have not had heat and I have not heard back from them on the status of my claim.

Submitting a claim with TotalProtect is usually easy and the claims rep is always nice. When we called when we were having problems with our garbage disposal, we thought, because the water was backing up on both ends in the sink and the kitchen, it was MCE that was sent out. The man that came said that it was not the garbage disposal but that the line leading out from the house out into the street was clogged. I figured while he was here, he could perhaps do the job, but he was unprepared and didn't have a snake, the proper equipment needed, so he didn't do anything. It was a waste of 75$. He talked about coming back another day and probably would have charged another $75. Moreover, the price that he wanted to charge to bring the proper equipment was $224, which is absolutely astronomical. It's ridiculous. I will never use MCE again.
But who is wonderful and excellent is His & Hers Plumbing. When I called back TotalProtect, I spoke to one of the ladies and she said that I could contact His & Hers. I used them back in 2012 because I had the same problem with the stoppage of the line heading outside. They sent the man out right away the next day. He said that it was the stoppage of the line and not the garbage disposal as well, but he was prepared, had the snake in his truck, and did an excellent job. The problem was cleared out and I was charged half the price of what MCE wanted to. If I ever have any plumbing issues again, that's what I would use; His & Hers.

When we first started years ago, we actually spoke to a person. Now when we call in, it's totally automated. I do prefer the ability to speak to a person, but the automation works as well and submitting a claim to them has been easy. The technicians have all been good. The first technician that came out for our air conditioning replacement--they were the number one in TotalProtect's list of preferred vendor--and that person came out and gave me a quote. About four days later, TotalProtect said they were requiring a second opinion. At first I was upset about the delay that this introduced. However the second opinion came out and gave me a quote that was $2000 less out-of-pocket for us for the exact same work, so it turned out being the better for us.
We've had TotalProtect several times and we've always gotten good service. They also fixed my washer or dryer, the refrigerator one time, and the air conditioning unit upstairs and downstairs on more than one occasion. They might have done something with heat once as well. Things have been repaired, most of the time at no additional to us. However, with the air conditioning being such a big expense, there are a lot of non-covered charges that they don't pay.

Aside from hearing from it through a friend of mine, I got TotalProtect because they sent me a mailing several years ago telling me my house is at a stage now where stuff is going to start breaking and, thus, offering their services. In calling for a claim, every five seconds I hear "we really appreciate your business" and the music starts playing. I wished they wouldn't keep saying that because it makes me feel that if they did, they would answer the phone. I guess they're getting overwhelmed and they can't have enough people on board to answer all of them at one time. Nevertheless, the reps were very helpful and I couldn't say a thing negative about them.
As with their techs, there was nothing special, but also nothing wrong. There was one problem, which wasn't a major problem and I can understand why they have to do it, where they come up and look at the problem, but they had to go back and get approval from TotalProtect, and then come back a second time to fix it. So, it usually requires two visits and that what's happened to the hot tub I had them work on recently. They could fix it the first time.

We got mail several years ago from our bank about home warranty and it sounded like a good idea so we've done it with TotalProtect for a number of years. One time, our furnace went out and it was 20 below zero in Illinois so I finally told the young lady on the phone, “I don’t know where you are but we need somebody now, not three days from now.” Because the call for the claim was getting to be really lengthy but it all finally worked out and a guy came from Peoria which is 50 miles away. Sometimes I wonder why they don’t use people we have here locally. Other than that, submitting a claim was very, very easy. The quality of work that’s been performed so far has been real good and they usually get somebody here within a day or two.
A few weeks ago, we had our refrigerator gone out and I called them and by that afternoon we had somebody locally came to look at it. That particular part of our refrigerator was not covered so we had to buy a new refrigerator, which I was not real happy about because I thought possibly they would try to or at least give us something on our refrigerator, but they did not. Otherwise, because we’ve had to have our stove repaired, we’ve had to have a new garbage disposal, I’ve had my washer and my dryer work done a couple of times, so we only had to pay the $75 deductible which was awesome. When we had our washing machine worked on, it took quite a while to get the part and then it wasn’t right and we waited another couple of weeks before they could get the part. Other than that, we’ve had real good luck with TotalProtect.

We've had TotalProtect since we first got the house about 10 years ago, it's probably changed names over that time. The claims process has been relatively easy most of the time. For the latest claim, their people over the phone were very helpful. However there was some confusion on their part about how urgent our problem was. Our furnace was out downstairs, we were having some very cold weather, and TotalProtect weren't able to speed up the process.
I understand how a company works and it does certain things to save money and keep costs and premiums down. But I wish there was a way to either pay an additional premium or pay additional at the final bill reckoning if we want to get quicker service. They've hired a regional service provider who is tasked with covering a full region. However he's not local so it takes him a couple of days to line up a schedule so that he is coming to our town to service us and maybe some others, rather than coming right away or if it were a local company.
Their technicians were very helpful though. It took them longer to get here than perhaps they should have and longer to get the new furnace in to get it installed. We were told initially that the wrong furnace came in so there was a delay of several days to get the right one. It wasn't clear to me whether the person at TotalProtect misspoke or if they admitted the flaw. The problem was that for some reason, they thought we had a propane furnace even though we or the service provider never said that. But once the technicians have diagnosed the furnace, the company gave the go-ahead, and they came back with the actual furnace, we were satisfied with their service.
We are very pleased with this warranty service most times. I know mistakes happen, I'm not going to drop the service. If somebody asked me, I'll probably tell them that TotalProtect has pretty good service and we've saved lots of money over the years having it. But I wish they would look at having a more sophisticated response.

I had a lot of problem with TotalProtect. When I call them I had to go to another stuff. But there’s one lady that I could call and talk to, she was the only one that helped me out real good and her name is Marian. My hot water heater was broken and the first person I talked to, a lady told me somebody would call and I found out that the person that they gave me doesn’t cover my area. So I called back, spoke to another person and she was also pretty good because she stayed on the phone and tried to find somebody.
But the person that she gave never came out so I called back and talked to Marian. She went through everything and said the only thing they got to do was put it in as emergency. And she did everything for me. The guys they sent out was at my house before and they know me. It was like, "wow. You have it as emergency," they came in. I have a kid that need to have water and she helped me out so the same day I have my hot water heater put in.
Another thing was the main water pipe broke inside our house and we couldn’t turn off. I called them, then I have to pay the money out my pocket. So I had the water company came out, turned the water off and then I went to buy the parts and fix it myself. I also called them three times already for my stove, my dishwasher – I get the run around because all the techs that came out told me there was a problem with the dishwasher. Then another tech came out from Sears and said that the harness on the dishwasher could not be replaced and that’s what the problem was. He put it off, showed me where it was burned out and then they’ve put a new dishwasher in. So I got through a lot of hassle with them.
There’s something that they need to be fixed, to have a technician that can come out right away when something is in emergency. If it’s not emergency I could understand but when the water pipe cannot get water in the house, can’t take shower, can’t cook, can’t do anything, that’s bad. It's different to have a hot water heater pan broken. If it was my stove, I could go to store and buy a hotplate or I could cook on my deck, that’s different because those I can do. When it comes to hot water, furnace and stuff like that, they should have a company that can come out right away. It may cost money but for a business like this, they have a lot of people that have problem every day so that’s one thing I’d do.
I like that I pay $125 deductible and when they fix something, it's covered for six months. When I call they'd answer the phone. They'd jump on it and everything's going. They had a lot of things but so far, so good. Everything is working and I do appreciate it. I'd recommend them to a friend. I have my neighbor that I did. He was disappointed, too, but I did that. He came on them and fixed his central air.

This is my first experience with HMS and it has been exceptionally negative. I submitted my initial claim on November 9th and was assigned Eagle Star appliances for the repair of the washer and dryer. Eagle Star was able to look at the appliances on November 11th and was supposed to submit their paperwork within 24 hours to the company, have the parts ordered and call me the next week to schedule the actual repair. Though the initial interaction went well, everything that has followed has been incredibly frustrating.
Eagle Star appliances did not submit their paperwork and when I called a week after, the technician had no idea what I was talking about and said he would call me back in 10 minutes but never did. I called and spoke with multiple customer service representatives at HMS who each told me they were following up and to call back in a certain amount of time or the next day to give them time to get the service report from Eagle Star but each time I called and repeated the same information I got the same response that they had not received the service report and needed more time to contact the company.
One representative said they were receiving the report as we spoke and we were all set and to call the next day for a status update - when I did call back the next customer service rep said they had not received the report yet. It is now the 30th of November, the report was finally received after multiple call backs on my end and the parts ordered but no one can reach and speak to Eagle Star and HMS is not sure where the parts are and it will take more time to track the equipment that should have been received on the 26th. It's unclear when this will all be resolved but the whole process has been frustrating and not at all easier as should be the case with insurance. I do not recommend HMS Home Warranty and advise consumers to go elsewhere.

To my knowledge, rust or corrosion results when steel or steel alloys come into contact with oxygen and air - not unusual in a washing machine when components are failing. Pay my monthly policy premium, paid for the service call and get denied. What am I paying for?

TotalProtect was the one that appealed to me the most compared to other warranty providers. It’s easy to submit a claim by calling and telling them what the problem is and then following the procedures. I’ve also had great interaction on the phone. There had four occasions when I needed help, and all of them appeared to be very concerned and willing to do what they can.
But on the most recent occasion, I called about my furnace being out and the technician came and said, “Well, the furnace appears to be okay. It’s the electrical system.” So I got the electrical system repaired at my cost because it was old and the service provider for the furnace said, “Call me back and I’ll come back to double-check it when the electrical is done.” I called them twice and I’ve not heard anything back from him. So I’m just trusting that the electrician took care of the problem. I was a little disappointed with that furnace man as he’s not keeping his word. I’m not always happy with some of the service providers but on the whole, it’s okay. I would recommend it

I used to have American Home Shield and wasn't satisfied with them and my brother told me that he had gotten Cross Country, which changed to TotalProtect. I selected the service provider because I had used them for air conditioning before. So I asked could that service provider come out because it’s his business so I trust him that he’s going to do a good job. He had employees when they installed it but he came out himself. I appreciate TotalProtect for letting me select when it involves heating or air because I know this company that’s part of the network.
Submitting a claim is fairly easy. Sometimes the results are not completely to my satisfaction but for repairs, they are. I thought it was a little pricey, out of my pocket cost, but last year I had to have a washer repaired and it was over a month. First they thought they could repair it, came out and had to order the part. Then the provider they selected said they didn't get the part and had for a whole week. Finally, they came out here and that wasn't even what was wrong with it. So they decided I needed a new one and it still took at least another two weeks.
The washer's fine because it was new but it's like older than me. It makes noise and takes forever to wash but I like it's got too many settings to suit me. I probably should've opted to cash out but I didn't think about it because I would've bought a more modern one. But it works. I'm going to replace it myself one of these days.
For my claim with the furnace, the quality of work is good. It didn't take that long but I still had $825 out of pocket cost and I thought that was a lot. I had thought the same thing with American Home Shield years ago when I had a water heater replaced out of my pocket cost for $325. I could've gone to Sears and bought one for less than that. I know furnaces are expensive but I didn't understand how much TotalProtect had actually paid.

The claims process with HMS Home Warranty was difficult because I called to get my air conditioner fixed, they sent someone out, the air conditioner worked for a month or so after they fixed it, and then it broke again. Then they called, but at that point they had nobody to send out, so I had to call my own person. But the person that I was going to call had to accept third-party billing but nobody else around here accepts third-party billing.
The other thing was that the groups that I did call after that came out the next day. In addition to that problem, I had to keep calling the warranty company back because every time they would find a provider for me, I would call that provider because they couldn't get a hold of them, and then I find out that that provider didn't service my area, so they had incomplete information about who services my area. So that was a giant hassle.
Then the problem was I called the warranty company back after the AC broke a third time, the company that did it acted completely unprofessionally towards me. They were horrible. They were lambasting me and telling me that I need to do all these things like make this company come out and fix it, that it wasn't their job and they weren't going to do it, and they refused to service things.
By the time that rolled around, I just threw my hands up and said, "I'm not dealing with this warranty." I literally had months left on my warranty and I would rather pay out of my own pocket than have to go through that process again. Those guys were terrible. The people that I dealt with at the home warranty company were okay, but it was the service providers that they chose that were unprofessional. I looked up the service provider on Google and they've got all terrible ratings. I don't understand how they pick these people.

I went with TotalProtect since things can go wrong in a house and right after I can come up with lots of money, I’ve got one thing that I pay. It was also recommended through Bank of America at the time when I had mortgage with them. I never had a problem submitting a claim with them since it’s simple. I call them, tell what the problem is, they give me a claim number and service person to call, and I’ve always got as long as one day’s wait. They come, do the job, I give them the base fee, and that’s it. Everything’s good with the claims rep too, and I’ve got no complaints.
I didn’t have a problem with the tech that came to service my appliance at the time, but he punched in the wrong numbers and I didn’t know that until later because the bank said that I’m paying with 2 checks, the same check number, to two different things but it wasn’t, so I had to reference my file to find out where the problem was. He wrote a check number that wasn’t the one I gave him and it was the only confusion I had with them. Other than that, I’ve been very satisfied. The warranty takes a load off my mind. If my washing machine goes, I don’t have to run right out to a store and buy one instantly. I’d call TotalProtect and I know exactly what I’m going to spend to get it fixed. I’d recommend them.

Up until recently TotalProtect was okay. However recently it's been terrible. We're actually experiencing a claim right now, and I'm very unsatisfied with the service. Two weeks ago on a Monday, we discovered that our washing machine was malfunctioning. We were getting a code on it on a Monday evening. I did look it up and found out what the code was. They told me it was a bad sensor. We called TotalProtect on a Tuesday morning. We got a name and a number of a local appliance place. We called and left a message with this place two or three times. We got no response. Wednesday morning, I called again to the appliance place and finally got somebody. They said, "we'll be out there about 11 o'clock."
They came out with an old machine. I told them what I found online. One of the servicemen told me that stuff is a bunch of crap. So the guys spent an hour and a half, which I understand since it was diagnostics. Then he finally came to the realization that the part that I said would be needed is actually the part that is needed. At this point in time, we have our dryer sitting on top of our washer. It's like an elite front loading washer. Before he left, he said they're gonna order the part. And I asked him how soon he could be back 'cause we needed a washer. He said, "I'd be back Friday with the part." I said, "Fine. How would you like to add the dryer on top because you need to get into it?" He says, "I'll bring my second man with me, it's all figured out or I'll do it myself."
I was trying to confirm the appointment, when they're gonna be there. We called the place all day Thursday. We still didn't hear anything back from them. This is the appliance place we're dealing with. I called the warranty place. They tried to call them apparently. Friday morning, I finally got to talk with the people - the person that owns this appliance place. I expected a phone call to tell me what's going on. Nobody made a phone call to me so I explained to the guy. He said, "Yes, sir, yes sir". And about 15 minutes later my wife gets a phone call from the warranty place. They said the guy can't come back out because he has nobody to help his guy get the dryer off of the washer. So they're gonna turn it over to somebody else. I'm pretty pissed at this point in time.
So Friday, the warranty place called my wife and she said something to the guy that was at the warranty place. And he made some smart comment about all the different places he's gone to trying to find one to replace it, like it was a burden on him to find us a new person to do our service. So he finally gave her the name of some place. I called the place and left a message. I told them what the previous vendor's findings were, taking the part, name, and number that they supposedly were going to order. I called the warranty place and told them, "I left the message for them and we've already had diagnostics. So I expect when they show up on Saturday morning, they'll have the part with them." They showed up Saturday morning. They never called me back. They showed up Saturday morning, they didn't have the part.
So to me, it was useless. The technician called the owner of the company. The owner of the company said they had to rerun all their diagnostics because the warranty company hadn't given them any information on what the previous vendor had found. So they're basically starting from scratch again. That vendor determined the same exact thing, that it was the switch that needed to be replaced. And of course they didn't have the switch because they have to order it. I've already looked the information up and told them where they could get it and how much it was. So now we have to make another appointment for them to come back out and fix it. No confirmation or help from the warranty company. At this point in time, I thought I had to speak to a supervisor. We've never spoken to a supervisor. Every time they've called us, it was supposedly a supervisor. They leave no voicemail, nothing with us.
They finally showed back up on Tuesday morning without confirmation, so my wife had to take off from work for this. They showed back up with the part. They put the part in, but it still doesn't work. They had to go out and find a different part. So now they're saying we need a control board for this thing. This was last Tuesday. We haven't heard anything since. My wife has called the warranty place several times and got no update. She got an update the other day, which was for Thursday, to say that they're looking into the situation.
I did call the vendor on Thursday morning to find out what was going on with this situation. He said that they turned all the information over to the warranty company who is researching the problem. I called the warranty company yesterday. They said they would have a final answer by the 16th, which is next week. They still have to order the part. So I'm talking another 1 to 2 weeks. They have yet to call us back and let us know what's going on. They may have called but they haven't left any messages on our phone because they're calling on our work hours. So at this point in time, I don't know whats going on. They will have a decision for me, the latest by the 16th and then well go from there.
Lord knows when my washing machine will be fixed. But when this is done and over with, I intend to go to PenFed and complain about them recommending this company. I'm liable to drop this company because we pay a lot of money every single month and this is taking way too long. No feedback, no calls, no confirmations from anybody. Well probably have to take off work for 4 days. We should be compensated for this somehow because we're sitting there waiting for people to show up. It's very frustrating.
It also brings to light, what if something really major breaks down like my heat or my water heater. How long will it take me to get that fixed? I just had a couple of other incidents with them. This service at the warranty company was very prompt, but I think some of the vendors they use weren't. Their responses are very slow to confirm anything with you. Once the people get there, they do a good job, except for these last people I dealt with.

We bought a house last July and as part of the sale requested the seller to give us a 1 year warranty on the appliances/AC/heater etc. In the first year, we had one issue with our AC and the service we got was horrible (not from HMS, but from the company they contracted to do our work). When renewal time came around, since we had an issue with our AC we decided to renew for one more year at a cost of over $600. Worst decision ever!
In August our freezer stopped working. We immediately called HMS and they had someone from Sears there within 3 days. Again we had issues with Sears (it was a Saturday they came in, but showed up 6 hours past their 2 hour window and would not provide any updates - so I wasted an entire Saturday in the house waiting). Turns out the thermostat quit and the man was able to replace it and got the fridge back up and working.
94 days later, the refrigerator and freezer stopped working. Another call - another 4 day wait for Sears. After an hour of diagnosis and constant "I just don't get it" he finally decided it was, again, the thermostat. Of course he did not even know where the thermostat was located. He had to call up someone to help, and they also had no clue - so I had to show them where in the freezer the thermostat was located.
Anyways -- of course he did not have one in stock, that would take a week to get and then it would be another 10 days before they could get out to our house again. And he wanted to charge me for another deductible. So I asked how many times they would fix the same problem on the same unit before they just replace the unit. The technician stated they would never replace the unit, HMS has to make the call.
I called HMS immediately, and put them on speaker so the technician could hear what I had been told several times (that HMS would replace the unit if the technician stated it needed to be replaced). HMS clearly stated this again, and the technician stated he has never and would never say a unit had to be replaced because only the insurance company (HMS) can make that call. I asked them if they both heard each other. Luckily they made it very clear that the call was being recorded (HMS was afraid of what the technician was going to say as they repeated 4 times that they were on a recorded line).
So -- you will NEVER get a new appliance regardless of how many times the same issue happens with your unit. I am a diabetic and had 3 bottles of insulin go bad because of this. I also have 2 children under 6. I cannot live without a refrigerator for more than 2 weeks waiting for a part. The only saving grace was HMS did allow us to cancel the ridiculous policy.
If you are buying a new house with appliances, this is a good deal if the seller will pay for it. Do NOT get it after it expires though. I lost over $500 in food for the 2 times the freezer/refrigerator quit working in 3 months. I was told it was NOT an emergency, even though I needed the unit to hold medication that is needed. I had to go out and buy a mini fridge to get by with the days without the fridge. In the end we just bought a new fridge and the insurance through Best Buy is much better than HMS and also much cheaper. Do not be fooled -- you will NEVER get a replacement regardless of whether or not you have a lemon.

After 3 weeks of cold showers, I finally hired someone myself with the belief that MAYBE I'd be reimbursed for at least a portion of the $1500 I paid for a water heater and the installation. (I chose a contractor listed on Angie's List, if this matters at all).
After 7 months of lost claims, resubmitting, letters of explanation, etc. I finally received a letter asking me to rate HMS and the handling of my claim. REALLY? Keep in mind that I still haven't received an answer as to whether or not the claim would be paid or denied. My initial claim number is **, given to me in July, then I was given a second claim number **, when a different vendor came. I have a refrigerator that freezes (in the area where the fan is) and as it freezes the temperature rises. A technician has seen the problem three times yet I have been requested to yet again let the unit freeze over. I realized that when the drawers are out the temperature stays steady. (I saw this when a tech came, took the unit apart and NEVER RETURNED.) Why must I keep showing the problem? A technician has been to my home SEVEN times for my refrigerator problem.
A simple problem was compounded by the initial tech and nothing has gone right since. The first vendor came three times, the second one came three times, a third vendor came because the second vendor was busy (he left the unit in pieces and had me wait all day but did not return as promised) and the second vendor returned and replaced a part. I removed my food and the draws and by morning the temperature had stabilized to 37/36. Why must I let this unit freeze over yet again so a technician can see it? I have done that too many times already. I want this unit replaced so I can celebrate the holiday and not have coolers in my kitchen area as I do now.

When I first had this warranty it says, "Everything treated within the four walls. It didn't matter the age of the product, it would be covered." I've had issues with several appliances including our microwave, refrigerator, and stand-up freezer that TotalProtect doesn't cover. Our bath plumbing and toilet are also within these four walls, so they should be covered as well.
But as far as our technician goes, he has been servicing us for the last four years and he does it all. He's excellent. I tell TotalProtect whenever I call to send him here unless he's not doing this anymore. He knows what he's doing and he shoots me straight here at the house. If I have a question, he answers it. As far as TotalProtect taking care of what I've put claims in for, it's been taken care of. I usually get the voice-activated system when I make a claim, which is irritable because I want to talk one-on-one. I am very outspoken and I’ll ask questions and I’ll ask why and why not. But from what I gather from our technician, TotalProtect is probably the best one he's been associated with from his customers that have it.

I've used HMS Home Warranty for two years. The first year was because service was free - it came with my newly purchased house. The second year was because I didn't know any better. I've filed multiple claims with them over the years related to the plumbing, the AC, etc. And each time is a real hassle. Their online claims system routinely mistakens me for someone else with the same last name. They generally don't use good contractors - the ones who serviced my AC compressor didn't even speak English well! They will nickel and dime you at every opportunity. Their coverage is limited too. Not worth the hassle! Do some research and see what companies are highly rated in your area.

I've had a home warranty with TotalProtect for several years and I had a couple of satisfactory experiences but mostly bad and after my recent experience, I felt the need to write a review. 1) Problems with service providers on nearly every claim. Some wouldn't return calls and the last one didn't show up twice as scheduled. For this claim, the provider showed up after failing to show twice and the problem wasn't fixed so scheduled him to return and he canceled at the last minute. It still isn't fixed. 2) For nearly five years my service call fee was $65-$75 but my recent service call fee was $120 because they changed my plan without telling me.

We've had TotalProtect for five years now and have had nothing but good experience. Their reps are always courteous and call to see if everything is okay. The last technician we had for our hot water heater was outstanding, very knowledgeable and good. We had been out of hot water for four days and since the heater was still under warranty to get the part replaced, the company wanted to wait another three days but the technician said, "No, these people had been out of hot water too long. You need to let me go to a local vendor that sells your hot water heater to get the part." They approved it and he had us back online that same day. I've recommended three other people to TotalProtect. They are outstanding, a great company to work with, and have as backup in case something happens to our home.

I did have a little disagreement about the price but it still came out a lot better than if I did not have TotalProtect. I needed a new hot water tank and the technician came out and assessed it. They did an adequately good job and in a timely manner. I never had any problems. The guys were totally polite and courteous. The only thing is that the company did not have their own licensing. I was asked to pay for a license fee and I still to this day don't understand that part of it. I had to give additional for some kind of line for them to put the water heater in. I ended up paying $285 when I thought it was going to be 185. I didn't like that. I spoke with TotalProtect and they said it was normal. But I would recommend them. Total Protect take care of business. I've had them for some time now. I just call in my claim and explain what's going on. If it's on my home warranty, they take it from there. I take the confirmation number down and then hear from whoever's coming. If they can't come, Total Protect calls me back and say that we have to go somewhere else. I wish it would work within an hour's time which is not real life but they get right to it. I've had great techs. When we lived in Washington, NC, we had a heater down. James from Albemarle Heating and Cooling was unbelievable. I like the way he worked and got the business done. My experience when submitting a claim with TotalProtect is very smooth, fast and pretty. I call the number and tell the agent who I am. When I have the case established, then that's it. They sent out a plumber, supposedly to fix the leak under the sink. Two days later, it's leaking again, so I was told by TotalProtect to call the plumber back out again. I called the plumber back and he looked at me and says, "Well, it's leaking from another place, so you have to call TotalProtect," hoping to get another estimate from somebody else.
As far as I'm concerned, the gentleman that they sent out did not correct the problem that they were assigned. The next thing I know, I get a call from the people saying 60 bucks and they'll fix it.
I've had no problem with every technician that I've had, especially when they come local. They're very polite and fast. In fact, I filled out a survey online and put my comments in there, that I highly recommended them. I shared it to a friend of mine and he is going to try to get it, and a couple of other people. They want to see the pamphlet on it. I take the one I got when I talk to other people. If they're interested, I show them the pamphlet, tell them my experiences and pass it on from there. Usually, they pick it up because they think it's a good deal too.The people there are great and I can't ask for a better service. They were efficient and explained everything to me. If they didn't have the part with them, they would get back in a day or two.

TotalProtect Home Warranty came in an informative newsletter from my mortgage company, Nationstar Mortgage. The property that it was on is a rental property and I bought it as a new home, but things age, and I didn't want to find myself being hit with a whole bunch of replacement items. Everything was working fine, but I figured now is the time to take a warranty on it and if the mortgage company was recommending them, they must be a reliable organization.
Submitting a claim was a little slow to begin with but once I got to talk to somebody who seemed to be in authority and who could handle the problem, it got handled pretty quickly. I had trouble reaching someone who seemed ready to do something about it. It took several phone calls, but when I did reach someone, he was very efficient and he took care of the problem.
The service person, Scott, was very good. I was very pleased with him. He was a local individual who is in the heat and air. This was an air conditioner. He's in that business and seemed to know what he was doing, he was on time with the appointments and got the job done in a short period of time. He checked both units out, told me what was wrong, made a recommendation and presented two options: either replace the individual parts that needed to be replaced or the entire unit. Apparently, the warranty company figured it was more effective, efficient and even cost-wise, so they replaced the whole unit which I was very satisfied with.
I've dealt with insurance companies in the past and their business is not to make payment but to not pay anything they don't have to. I understand that, but I would consider it a normal situation as far as dealing with a warranty. It's what I expected. I'm happy with them. They were great, and the only thing I could suggest on is they need to be a little more receptive to the initial contact when somebody has a problem and not make them call three times to get anything done about it. In the end, everything turned out to be done to my satisfaction. It just took a little more effort than I thought it should have. They ended up doing the right thing and they took care of the problem and I'm satisfied with what was done. It wasn't perfect, but it was good.

I decided to look into acquiring a home warranty because my friend had one and he was giving me favorable comments about TotalProtect, so I was happy about it. Claims process was not very difficult. But I was not satisfied because I did not think that I would have to pay as much as I had to pay. I thought I only had to pay my monthly services.
First I had a problem with my air conditioning, first time I used it and they let me know that one of the units in my home was not covered. And I was under the impression that if a unit was a fixed unit and not a portable unit, it was part of the house, it was covered. Well I had a mini split in the lower portion of my home. I had a conversion of my garage to a living space and I had a heater/air conditioner that was called a mini split that was installed, and they told me they couldn't fix it. They couldn't work on it because it wasn't covered so that kind of bothered me. That really bothered me because no one ever asked me what appliances I had in my home.
I have an electric range. I have two refrigerators and freezer. I thought I wouldn't have any difficulty which is one of the reasons why I joined TotalProtect. I used to have Sears where they would send me a bill every year for two or three years service warranty. And when TotalProtect sent somebody out, they sent the same Sears repairman to my home. And so I had to pay him a fee and Im already paying my monthly fee, so I didn't think that was fair.
The service technician was very nice. He was informative and he knew exactly what he had to do. He fixed an icemaker and he had everything that was needed. Like I said he was very helpful. The quality of the work that he performed was wonderful. He gave me some information about certain things that I needed to do in reference to satisfy another problem that I had with my water line, the line that supplies the water for the icemaker and the drinking water. And that was a separate thing. I was very satisfied with him.
I would recommend them to a friend but I would have to make sure that they were aware of the fact that they needed to fully understand the contract that they got into, in reference to what expenses they had to incur or would incur if they needed repairs done. Like I didn't think I would have to pay the money that I paid for the services when they come out and do it.
The guy who came out and did my air conditioning, I mean he told me, "Well you got the wrong size unit in here". Well if TotalProtect had somebody to check the appliances and everything that I had when I first applied, they would have known then exactly what I had. He says, "Well this is not the right size unit for your home". I had never had any problems with it cooling my home or anything but he says "Well no, this is the wrong one and you need to get another compressor, this, that and the other". I think that they should be a little bit more explicit about things or they should know more about what you have in your home before the warranty is accepted by them, your business is being accepted. The work was fine but I just think there should be more explanations. I am satisfied with the work that was done and when it was done. But I wasn't satisfied with the money that I had to pay.

My claim to fix broken ceiling fans has been open for almost a year. I posted on here weeks ago because the claim I filed before Christmas of 2014 has never been resolved.
I was finally contacted by phone. They left a voicemail that said someone from Camden Electric in Camden Arkansas would call me. That company was the first company (and now the 3rd or 4th) they have tried to use. I had to change to another one because when I called the man (he never did call me), he would say he was coming the next day and not show up. This went on for weeks. Now he was supposed to contact me. He did not. The case manager never followed up. I have sent 2 emails to let you know that no one has contacted me. I have already paid my deductible, not to mention years of premiums. Please refund my deductible and premiums, or I will contact an attorney to recover them.

TotalProtect was recommended to me by my mortgage company and I've been happy with it. I'm into law enforcement and it helped me up twice or once. TotalProtect has a first class service including their customer service, and excellent technician and process of submitting a claim. I submitted a claim on a Saturday and the person was helpful. She said they'll contact me and indeed they did, considering it was a Saturday. They told me they will come on Monday morning and sure enough, they were here on Monday at 7 o'clock. And the technician that came was very knowledgeable and informative. He even told me to stand near him so I could watch what he's doing.

My husband passed away and once he was gone, I knew I wouldn’t have any help. He was always the handyman. I figured that being by myself, I would need some assistance. I’ve looked into different home warranty companies and I thought TotalProtect fits me better. I recently submitted a claim for my refrigerator, and it has been easy to do. I call and tell them what my problem is and they get someone out to fix it. It takes pressure off of me. The only complaint I had was during a microwave oven claim where I had to pay to have it taken off the property. Everything else other than that went fine. The technicians were very professional and courteous. They picked up on exactly what it was in about an hour and they were on their way. I recommended TotalProtect to my son and his wife in Texas and they also got it. Great experience.

We sometimes have an issue with the contractor that TotalProtect hires on how quick they can fix the problem. We had a problem with the washing machine and they hired Sears who replaced almost everything. It required 3 long visits and they were not diagnosing the problem right. It took over 3 weeks before it got resolved and also our water heater was replaced, but both turned out okay. Other than that, I’ve had a fair experience with the company.

So that mean I left with an unusable fan paid co pay for nothing. Feel like this WARRANTY IS A WASTE OF MONEY I WANT TO CANCEL

I sell real estate so I know about HMS Home Warranty and know the benefits of having it. HMS respond a whole lot quicker than some of the other home warranties that we've actually recommended in the past and we've got feedback from our clients, and HMS came out on top. I had two claims with them that were positive. The contractors they sent showed up at the house within just a matter of days and fixed the problem. They were very friendly and courteous. Overall, we've had great success with HMS with the exception of this week. I did contact HMS on Tuesday or Monday of this week and I was given a contractor. I called the contractor and he said he doesn't longer do refrigerators. So I called HMS back and they gave me another contractor. It is now Thursday and I've yet to hear from that person.

Last month, I submitted a claim to TotalProtect because my heater went up over the weekend. The technician came out and he troubleshooted the issue. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to fix it on the same day because he had to get parts and the stores were closed. But the next working day, which was a Monday, the technician came, serviced my heater, and did the job. I haven't had issues since the repairs. Even though it was only that one experience that I used TotalProtect, it was a good one despite having to wait over the weekend. It was a reasonable situation because I understand the part was not available. I am thankful for the service. TotalProtect is a good company, and I would like to continue my stay with them. Their service has met my expectations, so I'm satisfied. I've even recommended them to a co-worker of mine.

I finally got a hold of him today and he told me that they were having trouble ordering the parts, and he was having the people at TotalProtect trying to find the parts. The technicians were nice and did real good but I'm just a little inconvenienced that I don't have a dryer for over a week now, but I'd still recommend TotalProtect. They're quick and easy and I never had any problems with the claim submission or my interaction with their representatives.

I have been a customer for over 1 year. Initially service was great. The customer service was responsive form my AC claim. The repair vendor fixed the issue with no problem. My second claim has to deal with my range. It kept cutting off. I filed a claim, a service guy was sent, spent 5 minutes, said I needed a new sensor. He ordered the part but that did not fix the problem. They sent a different repair vendor that said I needed a new range. I have all Whirlpool appliances but they wanted to replace it with a Hotpoint, even though they offer a discount on Whirlpoool appliances. I ended paying extra to get Whirlpool range, purchased and installed by Sears. They offered to provide a credit of $493. My stove was purchased on 8/5/15 and I emailed all supporting documents to them after the stove was installed on 8/17/15. I received a reply email immediately that indicated it would take 4-6 weeks to process a refund. I am now on week 10. I am still waiting on the refund check. I have spoken with countless customer service people who tell me it is a back log in Support Services. I can't speak with Support Services because I was told they do not have phones. I finally spoke with a supervisor , Mike at ext **. He told me the check would be mailed on 10/21/15 and if I did not have it by 10/27/15 to call him. I called Mike and left a message yesterday. No return call. I called today and was told it was mailed on 10/21/15. I have yet to receive the refund and question whether it has even been mailed. I am cancelling the policy and contacting an attorney.

Having a home warranty saves money in the long run so when I first heard about TotalProtect from my insurance company and my mortgage company, I signed up. When something breaks down, I call them, tell them what the problem is, and they give me a claim number. They tell me who the company that's gonna come and do the repairs are. They're courteous and able to answer all of my questions. I've never had a problem with them. In a lot of cases, they contact them for me and they schedule a time.
The contractor comes and I write my deductible check. The service technicians have always been very professional, very thorough, and they explained what the problem is, and they explained what the process is in case an item has to be replaced. They fix the appliance or whatever the situation is, and overall it has worked out really well. In one case they had to replace the garbage disposal. Everything else, they've been able to fix. I've used them quite a bit, so overall I'm getting value for the money so far. The experience has been positive. The only thing I did not like is that they raised the deductible. It used to be $60 and it went up $75. Other than that, everything has been fine.

It took me 3 weeks to get my hot water heater replaced. Claims never put the order in - although I was told several times they had - and then when they did they ordered the wrong unit. On top of all that I finally paid almost $300 out of pocket. That included my $75.00 deductible, a $50 haul away of the old unit fee, $50 for the hookup and $100 for an expansion pan they said was an "Upgrade" but was needed to meet code. Now that I want to cancel my contract with them they tell me I might owe another $300 because my contract had renewed in July and the monthly payments I had made since then weren't enough to cover their costs for the hot water heater! I would have been better off never having had a contract with them and just brought a hot water heater at Lowes and had a plumber install it. I would have had hot water a lot sooner for less. I've had other home warranty companies and never had issues like I've had with Total Protect. The only reason I went with them was my mortgage company included the monthly payment with my mortgage and it was convenient for me. I would not recommend Total Protect to anyone.

Piece of crap and a total rip off. Don't bother spending your money or negotiating this home warranty into your closing contract. It is not worth it. Anything you may need they will find a way not to cover and you will be spending 100.00 on a deductible for EACH claim area. By the time you get finished paying out all of your 100.00 deductibles for each claim area that you do not get back when they deny your claim, you would have saved money by just paying for the repair yourself.
