I would definitely tell others to go with HMS. I've had them for about six years now and the experience has been very positive.

We’ve had the house for 2 years now and when we bought it, the sellers had the HMS home warranty with it. We renewed the warranty after the first year. The biggest and ugliest claim was with my range. It started on May 8th and I finally got things straightened out in December. It was partly due to the fact that there were 7 times that Sears came and they ordered parts but they ordered the wrong parts to come and fix the stove. Then once it got to 7 times, I told them, "Look—," and they finally said, “It’s not gonna be fixable.” So, we went through the process of getting a stove and it had been okay.
I also called on the furnace 2 or 3 times, and the guy is always gonna submit a suggestion to do this or that, and I’ve never gotten any feedback saying, “Hey, the repairman says that we need to replace this or that, you know. He indicates that it could and it's getting older," which it is. It’s a 19-year-old furnace. But then for the dryer, the contractor came out and took care of that within 2 visits. They came here, ordered parts, came back, and fixed it.
Another thing is that their phone tree is way all over the world. I call through and a few times I get all the recordings. I’ve never got crazy with anybody, but I always thought that maybe it could go the next level after. I said, “How many times are they gonna come and check the stove and order parts before we say, ‘Hey, enough is enough.’?” Still, I’m satisfied with them so far and I may renew it again when it comes due here in a month or two.

I had to replace my refrigerator and I called TotalProtect to find out about having it replaced. One person told me that I could do it, then next person said I couldn't. I had already used the plan before and I had gotten a washing machine from the guy. Then the next time I went to use it, they said I didn't have it anymore. They tell me they went up on the plan and I had to redo the plan. All that stuff was done without my knowing.

The home had HMS warranty for a year when we purchased it and then it was up to us to continue on. There were a few things in our home that are a little up in the year and they were gonna make it through another year or so. We decided that it would be within our benefit to continue on last year and everything worked out well. Then we renewed again and we had a dryer issue. So, that definitely saved us a couple hundred dollars there with getting a simple part fixed.
My only issue with HMS was when I was trying to put a claim for the dryer. It wouldn't process through on whatever device I was on. I kept getting an error message when I was trying to do it on my phone so I tried to switch and I had to go and do it on my laptop, which was fine since everything worked well. Also, I only worked with the gentleman for the dryer but everything was very efficient. He was very courteous, very on top of things with communication and with getting everything done that he needed to do. He was definitely very flexible as I have six-month-old twins at home. I wasn't able to walk around with him but I showed downstairs, and he asked me a question at one point then did what he needed to do.
Rachel- Thank you for sharing your experience. We are delighted to hear that we’ve been able to satisfy your home warranty needs, and regret to hear that you had difficulty placing a claim through our online system. After getting some confusion cleared up on who was supposed to contact me, I got in touch with the repair guy. He came out, set a quote, ordered the parts, came out the next week and fixed it all up in about an hour or so.

Our house was probably about six or seven years old when I first moved in. I just thought a warranty would be good to have, because if something goes wrong, they would take care of it. And so far, they have. TotalProtect's price per month was the lowest out of the ones that I found. My experience has been fairly well overall. We’ve had numerous things done. They have taken care of everything that we have ever had a problem with. However, the interior of our microwave peeled off and they wouldn’t replace that. They said that it wasn’t mechanical part, which I disagreed with. That coating is an actual part. It has a part number. But I understood the microwave is 15 years old and everything. I was a little upset about that, but after I thought about it, I said, “Well, they’ve taken care of everything else, so I really can’t complain all that much.”
I also had an issue with some of their subcontractors that they hire out to do the work. For instance, one HVAC company was very mad that we were using the home warranty company and not using his service. He made comments like, “They’re hiring people to come out to fix your stuff, and then they hire me secondary to come out and fix it because the first people screwed up. Meanwhile, I got people at home not working.” He was very irate and we’ve dealt with him twice now. And both times, he gave me an attitude. I’ve told TotalProtect, “From now on, please don’t send them back here.” They took care of it.
The only other issue that I’ve ever had is the time it takes them to get certain parts in. Some things they would have right on their truck, other things, you have to wait a couple of days for them to come in, because TotalProtect has to order it and send it to them. There was one time we had a air conditioning problem and we were on a cruise. My mother and father-in-law were here, and it was 90 degrees out so it was 80 degrees in the house, and it took them four days to get the part in to fix it. That was a little bit of a hassle. But overall, for the $125 deductible, it’s well worth it to wait.
Techs were here four months ago and replaced the hot water heater. The guy AHS used was phenomenal. He was a great guy. He was in and out. Within two days, he had the thing done and it was good to go. We even got a $500 deductible when our roof got a leak. We had a contractor replace the roof, but TotalProtect paid the deductible, so that was nice.
Dominick-We appreciate you taking the time to share your warranty experience. We do our best to provide quick and reliable service and we thank you for being a loyal customer. We are sorry to hear that your interaction with one of our service providers was less than satisfactory and we are sorry to hear that it took some time to get the parts for your air conditioning. The contractors were good. But, the parts they put in there worked for about a week and that was about it. I got to have them come back out and replace my parts. The quality compare to cost relation of HMS Home Warranty is poor. Renewing it, for me, is questionable.

The company I had was shutting down, so I was looking for another company. Everything that TotalProtect had to offer in comparison seemed like the better option to me. Submitting a claim is very simple. I typically submit my claims online. Within an hour, I’ll have an email with the information, the claim number, and a contract person’s information. They schedule the service, they come out, I pay my fee, and they take care of it. With the exception of one, the contractors have all been great. I had one that was really scammy. He didn’t do the repair properly. And when I started having issues, I contacted TotalProtect, and they quickly sent someone out and got it fixed. But other than that, I’ve always had great experiences.
My mother and my brother both have TotalProtect now because I told them to get it. I’ve used two other companies prior, and of the three, TotalProtect is number one. Their monthly fee for their service is reasonable. The trade call fee is reasonable. Some people might say it’s a little higher in comparison, but you don’t have all the extra out-of-pocket things with TotalProtect. When TotalProtect says they have you covered, they have you covered.

My garbage disposal stopped working and then my dryer did, too. They sent someone out and got them fixed within the week. The contractors were great. In both situations they had to come back, and I haven't had any issues since the repairs. I have been with them for two and a half years now and I have filed several claims already. I like the amount of items that are covered by them.

Everything has been working good with HMS Home Warranty. They answer our calls. Of all the things we’ve had done, two things were weird. One was the stove, where we told the repair people who were coming out exactly what was wrong. The door on the stove was hanging off and the handle was disconnected, and the door separated. When they got there and evaluated everything, they needed to replace two burners. Apparently, they don’t do doors. If they don’t do doors, why did they answer the call then? It was a waste of $100 for us. They never should have come out. And then, we had the furnace, the HVAC system upstairs replaced because it had problems. They put the drip pan under the HVAC. It was too short so it didn’t catch the drips right. And it came through a fixture in the ceiling. So, that company was questionable. The one I loved was a guy named Antoine. He did a phenomenal work.
I like that HMS do what they say they're gonna do. Their claims process is easy however, when the annual fee went up, we were not notified. I just noticed it in the charges and that took me by surprise and upset me a bit. We bought a house in South Carolina and moved here about a year and a half ago. It came with a home warranty and when it ran out, we got one with HMS because we like them. They were better than the people we had when we bought this house. So far, we’ve been only disappointed once. We’ve used HMS quite a few times because we also had a house in Lynchburg, Virginia that we put under HMS, and used them for a couple of things that happened there. It has always been a satisfying experience. I like what they stand for, their efficiency, and for the most part, I like the companies that they send out. They know their stuff. This is our third house with HMS Home Warranty and we’re very, very happy.

I've been protected with TotalProtect since 2011, and it's been wonderful. When I first bought the house, I didn't realize that all those things would have been covered, and I paid for them. And when I had some problem, I realized I have that warranty and I started using it. Their contractors have all been really great guys, and the quality of their work has been fine. There was one time I had to call the guy back. That was on the second floor for the furnace and he tried to do it in a less way, and my son-in-law already diagnosed it because he's an electrical contractor. But he came right back the next day and did what was needed. TotalProtect is very good. My generator was one of the biggest things that I use them for. When the generator went out, they came and put in a new one. That one only lasted less than a year. It went out. There was some defect, and they came and put in a new one. TotalProtect gives speedy service. I'm completely satisfied.

I purchased a Sears Whole Home Warranty in October of 2019. My Heat Pump decided it no longer wanted to function in December. So I call Sears Home Warranty which is underwritten by Cross Country Home Services. I get a claim put in. They send a tech out, they put more freon in. Call it a day. Fast Forward to a week ago, unit shuts off again. Call Sears Home Warranty. Technician says he thinks its the TXV doesn't do a leak test or go into the attic to check out the indoor unit at all. He didn't give me an estimate of how much it would cost in writing, only that it would be about $500-$800 that isn't covered. So I go and I contact two independent companies at my own cost, to see what they think. Well they come over do leak tests and both determine it is the Indoor Coil and not the TXV.
I tried to contact the sears technician, I sent him texts and left voicemails to try to understand the discrepancy. I got no response. I called up Sears Home Warranty to see if they will get a second opinion, they say they need 48 hours. I then call back, and the guy says ok. So then he refers me to BELTWAY AIR COMFORT SERVICE INC. So I go and do some research on the company. The company had a Contractor A license that was REVOKED by DPOR in 2018, because the company was involved in some sort of license cheating scandal according to the DPOR complaint. That is NOT the type of service company I want coming into my home.
I am instead going to use another company on my own dime to repair my broken unit. The Sears Technician is incompetent, and the new company they want to send to my home had their license revoked. This is not the experience I expected with Sears Home Warranty/ Cross Country Home Services. I think Cross Country Home Services should reimburse me for the cost of my repair, given that their technicians are incompetent or have had their licenses revoked. They should also be refunding me the 2nd claim deductible since the same problem occurred within 180 days for the same thing.
Robert- Thank you for bringing this to our attention, please know this is not the level of service we aim to provide. We take our network of providers seriously, and will forward this information to the appropriate department for handling. I have been a customer of Total Protect for 12 years. I submitted a Claim to repair my Dryer. On the commercials they said they cover the cost of repairing or replacing your important home appliances. But if they send a Technician to service your home dryer and that technician and the company (911 Appliance Repair) lies and makes false statements that you re-wire the wires inside the dryer. It is like Total Protect plan this scheme with this company and they denied my claim and refuse to help me in any kind of way. Total disappointed.

I’m a Realtor and have sold the HMS Warranties for people as far back as about 16 years ago. And everybody has always liked them. I also have experience with another company and they would find every reason in the world not to honor the warranty. But with HMS it’s pretty cut-and-dried. This year, my heat pump went out and they replaced the outside unit. However, I don’t like that you deal with a machine an awful lot. They’re more cut-rate and it’s hard for them to find people that are local. They've had to get people to come out from North Carolina to do some electrical repairs for us. But the people they've sent out seemed to be very knowledgeable. I’m coming up for renewal and I’m going to do again for another year.

Everything has been wonderful with TotalProtect except when one of the service providers that they selected, Atomic TV, initially simply refused to provide service and stated that they didn’t have time to be involved. Outside of that, it was fairly quickly resolved with a second provider. Also, the claim submission process has become a little convoluted but I was able to deal with it without a great deal of difficulty. I tried to call and ended up doing it online. I would always like to see less deductible as well. Other than that, I've been with them for multiple years and I’m very happy with the service.

I’ve been satisfied with TotalProtect's service and so I've had them for 20 years now. Other than last winter, my furnace went out this past fall and it took them about a month to fix it. Every time they turn around, they had to order a part and I had sit around in the cold for a whole month. That’s the only complaint I ever had. But one thing I don’t like about them is getting an okay to fix something. The idea of having somebody come out here 2 or 3 different times and the guy had a part in his car but he said he couldn’t use it as he still had to get an okay. And that took two weeks. Still, I’m satisfied with the customer service. Something happened to my oven and they took care of that right away.

I've been with Cross Country for at least 10 years. Historically, their service is great. They're responsive. The vendors that they've dispatched to our home are effective and efficient in resolving matters. But I had an experience with them over the course of the last three weeks that was not positive. I responded to a survey back today regarding that very negative experience.
Evidently, the vendors that they would normally contract with no longer have a contract in my area. My claim was outsourced to a different warranty company that did have a contract with a vendor in the area. I wasn’t working directly with them but I was going through them then they were having to outreach to the other vendor to follow up for me or find out where we were in the process. I requested that they escalate it because it had to do with our refrigerator freezer in our home and it took three weeks to get the refrigerator running. We went three weeks without a major appliance in our home. I'm not very pleased.
Also, I did all the follow-up like me contacting the vendor or me contacting the warranty company. The second time that I contacted them, I requested that it be escalated and was told that it was. The fourth time that I contacted them, I was told that it had never been escalated. By that time, the vendor had already contacted me that the parts were in. I wanted to schedule the appointment for a repair but the vendor wouldn't schedule it until they had the parts.
When the parts came in, I had to find their next available appointment which was a full three weeks from the first time that they came out to inspect the appliance. That was odd to me because we've had things repaired. We've even had a refrigerator repaired before although not this particular one in question. The vendor came out the same day, inspected it, and fixed it the same day. But for this particular claim, the gentleman from the vendor came out on a Friday, inspected it, and said they were gonna have to order parts. I needed to unplug the refrigerator and let it completely thaw. He told me that unfortunately, it was a Friday. By the time he could get back to the office, it could be Saturday or Monday before they could enter my paperwork. In reality, it was actually the following Tuesday that the paperwork got entered and that's when I tried to start speeding things up with no luck.
What I'm used to with Cross Country is they dispatch somebody out, they address the issue, and they resolve the issue the same day. Very rarely have I had a situation where there was an issue like after the first year when we had an issue with the plumbing. They dispatched somebody out who ended up making the problem worse. They told me that they couldn't resolve the problem and that I would either need to contact the warranty company or their office. The tech left and I called their office back. They said they couldn't get somebody else out there to fix what needed to be fixed. It was after Christmas and I would have to wait five more days to get somebody out.
I called the warranty company back and they dispatched a new vendor within probably 24 hours and had the issue resolved within 15 minutes. They handled that one well because they were willing to dispatch a different vendor out. But with my refrigerator claim, it's a little bit different. My guess is the last time we had a refrigerator worked on under this warranty company, they used a Sears repair technician but Sears is no longer in our area. They closed. My guess is if there are still some Sears repair places within the country, their contracts are probably is still active. But in our area, with Sears pulling out, I'm sure that was part of the problem.
When I called in and asked for them to escalate the issue, it should have been escalated. They should have not told me that it was gonna be escalated. A note on the account to contact the customer for a follow-up to let me know that it had been escalated or where things were in the process would have been appreciated. The vendor was upset that I was calling them for follow-up because they weren't the friendliest.
The work was good but it was kind of a continual "Why do you keep calling me?" sort of thing. They would tell me they were waiting on the warranty company. When I would call the warranty company, they would tell me they were waiting on the vendor. I'm certain this is because they outsourced the request. Overall, the warranty coverage is good. As with anything with time, the out of pocket has gone up but it's still $100. And if you think about having to replace parts or have work done, you're still saving quite a bit of money with only paying $100.

When I was searching for a home protection plan, a friend of mine said that they have TotalProtect and I tried it. Their monthly payment is cheaper and they cover more things than American Home Shield. The dishwasher hummed all the time and wouldn't go through the cycles and wash the dishes. It filled up with water and agitated it a little bit, but it would never pump out the water. It just got stuck in that one cycle. I turned the power off in the breaker box for that appliance and tried to get it fixed. The guy changed the hose, took the plate off and ran through the electronics. I thought it was working and it looked like it was gonna do fine, but it did it again. It got to a certain cycle and just stopped. The technician who came out was very kind, informative, and thorough. It was a very pleasant experience. I'm satisfied.

Also, one of the original technicians they sent out for my dryer was awful. I have a very weird brand of dryer. It was evident they had no clue how to work on it and messed it up worse. One time, TotalProtect tried to send one of them back out a second time. I remembered their name and said to send me someone else. And they did, so that worked out okay. Other than that, we’ve had good luck with the water heater people, the garbage disposal people, and the washer and dryer people.
We were a little disappointed when the deductible went up. When we started, it was only a $75 deductible and now, it’s $100. We’ve used them for several things and it was great. But recently, we found out that some things that we thought were covered were not. We recently had an issue with our sump pump, but it was not covered. To me, that seemed to be an appliance, but they don’t consider it that way. It’s been years since we've started with TotalProtect and they’ve really come in handy. We’ve been happy with TotalProtect. For some reason, they no longer can be on my mortgage, which was another kind of a bummer. We’re paying that bill separately now, but we plan on keeping it.

Total Protect Home Warranty approved the replacement of Martin ** dishwasher September 2019 in the amount of $587. Martin ** died July 5, 2019, and I’m his Power of attorney and Executor. As of today, January 5, 2020, I have not received the check. I called numerous of time trying to get info on the check. The first call, Total Protect informed me the check had been mailed and cashed. They informed me to send a copy of Martin death certificate, Power of Attorney and Executor affidavit. I sent these papers twice. After a period of time, I called again. I called a third and fourth time, each time had to explain everything all over again, because apparently they don’t keep records. Again I called today, January 5, I was on hold for over 15 minutes, and still no info on who cashed the check, where and when. I also wanted a copy of the front and back of check. Help!

HMS Home Warranty came with my house and I had it for my safety net. I had a couple questions when I first started. To get to someone that was actually helpful on the phone was pretty difficult. They sent me to a foreign country and I gotta beat around the bush for about a half an hour, and then they sent me back to the States. Once I got there, the woman that I got on the phone was super informative, and she told me I could upgrade my plan for a small fee. I actually ended up doing it ‘cause she explained it. I didn’t think she was trying to sell me. They were extremely helpful and they cleared everything up for me.
Submitting a claim was super easy. I was having an issue with my furnace, and within minutes, they scheduled someone to come out later that week. It was a really good service. The contractors were totally professional. They spent an extensive time fixing my issues. I’ve heard issues with other home warranties where they say they’re gonna cover but they don’t. I haven’t had that issue with HMS, so I was pleased.

I’m the homeowner and we make the payments for TotalProtect. They came through our bank. I looked into it, decided it was something good for us and we pursued it. The most recent claim was for the water heater. It took some challenges to get it done, but we did. Several plumbers came out and the last plumber that came wanted to charge us $900 on top of getting the water heater replaced. I opted not to do that. I requested a buyout. So, I got the heater replaced myself and they did the cash-out. I wished that the trades that they sent out would be a little more responsive. It took a few plumbers to get out here in order to get this thing resolved. The same thing with my oven. That was an ongoing thing, but finally we did a cash-out with that, too. But the bottom line is we got the job done. We are satisfied with TotalProtect.

I recommend TotalProtect all the time. We've been with them for 12 to 15 years and there's been no problem in the claim submission process. Everyone that has come have been professional and nice as well. We had a problem with them once. Our hot water heater went out, and they changed a bunch of stuff in between and we never got notified of it. But they backed us, got us on the right program again and fixed it. So they did the right thing.

HMS Home Warranty came with the home and then I saw the benefits. I've been with them for two years now. When submitting a claim, it takes pretty long and the people that come aren’t knowledgeable. The one guy who came out when I initially had a toilet issue lied about a flood in the house. He said it was gonna cost a couple thousands of dollars and it ended up being a $5 fix for the pipe on the back of the toilet, and there was no flood damage. When I called initially, I think one of my first calls was about my dishwasher backing up. The guy came out and took my deductible -- a hundred and something dollars. He told me to pour apple cider vinegar in there and it should help out. He didn’t do any work. It just so happen that I had a personnel with the house that was able to fix the toilet.
Most recently, the dude that came out for my fridge, I had to wait for a week and a half, to get my fridge fixed. I had to throw out all my food. He came back with a light bulb and said that he thought that it was the light that was broken. Then he finally said that it was a part that he had to order and then he told me he couldn’t order the part, that the warranty had to order because they order so many that they get it cheaper. I told him to just fix and that I kept taking off from work for him to come and taking his phone call. It was taking way more. I had to call him and asked if he was coming yet, when he was gonna be here or if the part came. It was a barrier to something that I had to have 'cause at the end of the day, it was cheaper, but it has been horrible.
HMS is definitely good to have especially if something goes wrong. But each time I’ve had something go wrong, the people that are coming out are strictly trying to get the deductible. As far as their knowledge of what’s actually going on and me paying for stuff, they’re either trying to rip it off. HMS might even wanna look into this.

When I submit a claim to HMS, I do it on the phone. I tried and worked it online once but that wasn't working. So it's just easier for me to call. But I don't have any trouble when I set it up. My recent claim was for my washer which was not working correctly. It would finish cycles and it smelled a little warm, like electricity-wise. They contacted Sears to do this. I submitted on a Friday and they came on that day. It turned out that the timer was not working and that's what was replaced. It seems to be working better now. Sears was nice enough to give me what their price would've been, 'cause I don't think anybody else is done. It would've been about a $300 house visit with the parts. And so, it cost me $100, so that was good. My house is about 25 years old, and that's when things begin to break down, so the warranty has been useful for me.

Submitting claims with TotalProtect has been easy. When we call in, they get back with us and set up a time for the repair. Once we get in contact with the contractors, they communicate well. But sometimes, things happen on a weekend and they don't get back to us until Monday. However, they come out when they say they’re gonna be there and they complete the work. TotalProtect helps a lot with bills. With our water heater, it was over $600. At first, the contractor thought it was just leaking a little bit, but then the water heater just stopped and wouldn’t get hot. We called and they ordered the part. And it took a couple of days for that to get in. We've been with TotalProtect since we bought our house eight years ago and we're happy with them.

When our water heater went out it had to be replaced, and then they sent us a check for half of what we paid, which was kind of sticky because they told us it would be three weeks before we got a water heater. I don’t know about them, but I don’t take cold showers. I wasn’t going three weeks. But the person did come out and fix the thermostat. Apparently, it was a part that needed to be replaced. That was the third time that a part has been replaced. But the young man did a good job. He was very nice and was on time.
He also said that he would send a note to Cross Country letting them know that eventually that the part is gonna have to be replaced. We haven’t heard anything since. So I’m waiting to hear from him. But so far Cross Country works pretty good for us. We got a fairly new house and don’t have a lot of issues. But in this day and age things are expensive. So having the home warranty service is handy for us. If something goes out, not everybody’s got the money to fix it. So the $100 deductible is reasonable.

Then, I had to pay another $100 out of my pocket for someone else to fix the plumbing issue. I was out of town and our washer wouldn't perform a hot water cycle. The technician from JGF MECHANICAL SERVICES - MD, 240-586-1415, came out and saw that the washer was apparently working because one cycle started. The technician didn't use the available diagnostic mode on the washer to display diagnostic information. After I returned home I was able to troubleshoot our washer today, after a few minutes searching the web, I found how to enter diagnostic mode on our washer and immediately found Error Code E2 F3 indicating the inlet water temperature was incorrect.
After manually operating the washer I was able to turn on cold water in maintenance mode, but the hot water did not turn on. This indicates a problem with the water input valve ($90) or the Control Electronics ($366). I'll perform additional troubleshooting to determine which part it is. The technician should have been better trained on the maintenance modes available for Whirlpool equipment. I feel that my $100 deductible was wasted and I should be refunded the deductible because the technician was unable to accurately troubleshoot the problem with our washing machine.

They should have a certain person to reach out to or if I reach out to somebody, I should be able to directly contact that person again about the same issue. Calling in my claim was great and the customer service was great too. A-1, the last company they sent out, did a good job. But the one they sent out the first time sucked. That guy, when he came out, he did not want to do the job. One of my drains is in the front of the house and he did not want to snake that. He did not want to snake my toilet again when he came back. I was like, "I think the problem would be solved if you guys either pull the toilet up." He had to do that, but he didn't. And then, he came back a second time. I asked him if he could snake the toilet again, but he wouldn't. They were lazy. I then told HMS that I never wanted them to come back and asked if they could send me somebody out.
Also, when somebody is going to have to pay extra money, it needs to be made clear that that is what we are going to have to do. The people that I talk to in the customer service tells me I do not have to pay any money. But then when the company comes out, they tell me that I have to. I then tell them that I already paid 100$ deductible and that I was told that I don't have to spend another dime. It's like certain people are trying to get money out of you.

The experience with TotalProtect went pretty good this time. It wound up there was a broken wire on the furnace and the thermostat was bad. The contractor was okay. It was him and his son that came. The one thing he did do right off the bat was he inspected the furnace to make sure it was even safe to be operated before he did anything. I appreciate that because that way, you know that the furnace is in good operating order. He's not gonna do anything with it. Then he fixed the broken wire, but he stopped at that point, and I had to call back in two days to have him to come back out. He came back out, and this time he kindly let me talk to him a little bit as far as what I thought. He got looking at it and agreed with me then that that was probably the problem. He repaired it and it's worked fine ever since.
I wish there was somebody around closer to my area to do the work because these people are travelling quite a distance to come. Consequently, I might have to wait a little longer than some people to get service. The last two times prior to this, I was very unhappy. In fact, I was about ready to quit and go with somebody else. They couldn't get anybody to come out here, and they wanted me to do the calling and hire a contractor to come out here. Then they wanted me to have the contractor to abide by their rules or regulations. I didn't feel that that was my job as a customer.

Total Protect assigned a plumber to the claim
they diagnosed the issue, and estimated the cost which included $425 that was not covered by the warranty
Service was performed - service techs did a great job on the install and the revised plumbing.
Issue:they had to move the washing machine to install the new water heater, expansion tank and plumbing. When they put back the washing machine they did not put the drain line back into the pipe - which I did not notice.
later that evening I put a load of wash in the washing machine and went to bed. I was awakened by a call from my security company that a water alarm was going off in my house. i found the bathroom and entryway flooded with at least 1/4" of water everywhere - it was actually beginning to soak into the carpet in my office. The washing machine had drained onto the floor.
It took a couple of hours to clean up that mess including pulling out the washer and dryer. water seeped under the moulding so now I am going to have to pull the moulding off to ensure that I don't have any mold issues. Also, there is a vinyl tile floor in the bathroom and there were places where water got under the tiles.
I paid out of pocket $550 ($125 deductible/$425 for new code reqt - expansion tank + piping mods). While this was an honest mistake by the plumber - it caused a lot of work for me.
TOTAL PROTECTS REMEDY FOR MY INCONVENIENCE AND EXTRA WORK - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! They reminded me that the deductible was in my contract and the non-covered costs were billed directly from the plumber.
This is how they treat a customer that has been with them for more than 15 years! I will be cancelling my service contract and I will relay this story to everyone in my network. Perhaps their "customer service" managers should re-read what it takes to retain a customer versus obtaining a new one.

The people that we purchased the house from had paid HMS Home Warranty for one year. The warranty expired after a year and I repurchased it again. And I've now had service for over a year. On January 1st, the furnace went out. We were in the middle of one of our patented polar vortexes in Wisconsin and we had no heat. It was a very frustrating situation because we were extremely cold. With the wind chill, we were in the negative 30s at that point, and I have kids. Luckily, we had a fireplace. But we didn't realize that they had no HVAC providers in our area at all to come and work on it. The only numbers they had were people that were over two hours away, and those people laughed at me on the phone and said they were not doing it.
I did some research and I found a guy in our local area who would be willing to accept third party payments. It took me almost two weeks, but we finally got everything resolved and I now have a furnace. It was basically working hand-in-hand with a supervisor after everything fell apart multiple times. But once everything got done, I was very happy with how everything went. Our dishwasher also went out not long ago and HMS Home Warranty had somebody out on it, had it up and repaired it within a week and a half. If they're willing to sell a warranty for an area, they need to make sure that they have plenty of service providers in that particular area. To spend however much in a year, and then find out that there are no service providers in the area, that's bogus.

We had another home warranty before and we switched to TotalProtect. We've been with them for four years and so far, everything is going good. We never really had to make a claim until recently and the process was seamless. We were really excited that it went really well. Submitting a claim to them was easy. I even did it online and they responded within 24 hours, which was good. It was less than expected. I like that TotalProtect chose whoever was closer to the area. They had chosen Sears service center to come check our microwave out. But two days had lapsed and they didn't call us. I have teenagers so I needed the microwave fixed, so I had to call back. But after they finally got someone down, it went quickly, within 48 hours.

Whenever I submit my claims with HMS they send someone out as little as a day or as long as two weeks depending on what the issue is. With my recent claim I had a blocked-up toilet, and it took a little less than a week. The contractors were very satisfactory. I’d have the same crew back again without any hesitation at all. Occasionally they will refer me to someone who doesn’t service my part of the world. Their geographic locator system doesn’t always work right. I’ve had that happen twice. But overall, HMS is pretty good in terms of the technicians that eventually get here.

I've had TotalProtect since we bought the house in ’93. In the beginning, submitting claims was good. Then, it was kinda bad for about a year or so. Some people must have complained because the service is back at being good again. We were happy with the last time we did a claim. We had 3 guys come over to fix our washing machine. The 1st guy was young so he was really inexperienced. He ordered 2 parts but one part wasn’t necessary. The next guy wasn’t that experienced either. We asked for an experienced guy and when the final parts came, the 3rd guy was great. He was probably in his 50s and knew exactly what to do. He found the problem right away and put in the parts. He was probably done within less than two hours. The washing machine is now working perfectly. I even did three loads yesterday. Thank goodness ‘cause I didn’t have my machine for about 10 days.

HMS has been the best thing ever. We used it when a couple of things broke and it couldn't have been easier and more helpful. The most recent claim was kinda two-part. We thought our heater broke. The contractor came out and said it was the thermostat. That worked for a few weeks. Within a week of that happening, our dishwasher broke. Our dishwasher a two-door one and kind of hard to find, but it got taken care of no problem. Then the heater started not working again. As it turned out, it was a heat vent so the contractor came back out and fixed it again. The second tech was much more thorough than the first. And because we’d already made the initial claim, they didn't charge us the $100 to come back out for the second one. HMS has paid off and I couldn't be happier with my experience.

I’ve had HMS for a couple of years now and Titan Heating & Air, the first HVAC system company that they sent out, was terrible. They did some shady things to my HVAC system. There was supposed to be two capacitors and when my system wasn’t working, they ran everything to one. So, whenever one part of the system would cut on, they would cut on the other part. My utility bills were $600 a month and I didn’t know why for a year, Eventually, somebody from Sears came out and looked at it. They told me that they couldn’t touch it because somebody else did the work wrong and they didn’t wanna be liable.
HMS made Titan come back out and undo what they did but then, they wouldn’t fix the leak in my refrigerant which was upsetting because every six months they would recharge the refrigerant. HMS sent somebody else out and they looked at it and told me that the system has been messed up for a while. I ended up having to get it replaced. That was a random $1,500 I wasn’t planning on paying because it was replaced. But I’d rather get it addressed than have to keep calling somebody out every six months for the same issue. HMS reimbursed me for my deductible. They were good to work with so, there are no complaints on my end.

We paid for three years of coverage upfront to lock in a lower annual rate, $200 deductible. Eight days ago our heat stopped working, as of now we are renovating so not staying there. It took three phone calls over five hours to have them authorize a local tech to come and assess the problem. The tech was given authorization to purchase the part. Of course, before the tech even looked at the heat pump, a $200 check had to be written. As of now, no one knows where the part is, the local tech will not return phone calls but the $200 check was cashed. No painters or other contractors will work until the heat is repaired. So the longer we are without heat, the longer the stop in renovations and the longer we pay a mortgage on a place we cannot even live in.
I asked if this was not considered an emergency, and I was told no. And if pipes burst due to low temps, I was also told they are not responsible. Not only will I never recommend this company, but I will go out of my way to tell people not even to consider a home warranty with them. I wish we could use our HVAC person, but since he is not on their authorized list he cannot do any of the work. Bottom line, we are out $1250 for three years of coverage, $200 deductible check that has been cashed and 8 days without heat. And they say this is not an emergency. Next call is to the PA Attorney General to lodge a complaint.

So, I'm having to check now every time I get somebody before they come as to if I want them coming or not. This time I called for my heater and they sent someone out before the Christmas holidays. The little guy came in, looked at it, and said nothing was wrong even though something was wrong. So, this month I called again, and I did not want that guy coming back. The process of putting a claim worked well too. The new company is a little bit different though, and I haven't had too much exposure. But the calling before the change was real top-end, quick and easy. The company is depending on me going online to do this. But I cannot look at both of my contracts online at one time. I have to log in two different log-ins to look at two different contracts. And it's easier always for me to talk to someone rather than type. And so, you're being forced to go online to do what I'm doing. It hits me the wrong way sometimes. I don't like it when companies do that. I would prefer an option.

The TotalProtect technicians I've had have been excellent. But I'm a little bit uneasy with those working with air conditioning in Alabama. I had a problem this summer with the AC which was leaking water. It was a stopped up pipe. The young man sent to us insinuated that TotalProtect wouldn't cover it and that they'd want pictures. I've never had that problem before so that concerned me. Also, Birmingham is a big city and the air conditioning people that provide service are from Tuscaloosa which is about an hour away. In the end, I went ahead and had my AC fixed separately. But for all the years that I had been a customer and for the $125, it certainly should've been covered. Then in January, I had a claim for my disposal that died and the contactor put me in a new one. They also unstopped drains for us and replaced my dryer several years ago.
I've been with TotalProtect for a long time when their copay was $75 and now, it's 125. I wish they'd put a stop on that though because I'm old and I live on a fixed income. That gives me a pause before I call and I wanna make sure that my claim is covered. The monthly charge has gone up too but I can deal with that better than I can with $125 copay. Still, I'm satisfied with TotalProtect.

You can do your claims online with them but it’s easier to call. I recently had a claim for the faucet. It won’t turn on and it took HMS a day and a half to send someone out but it wasn’t their fault.
The contractor said that he would call me when he gets the report from HMS and then, the next day, he called and told me that he couldn’t do it that day because he was booked. The guy asked if I could wait. When he came, he told me that the claim wasn’t covered and he couldn’t fix it. So, I had to pay him the deductible which I didn’t have to because it was a recall. He was the same guy who came out to fix the same problem in December. I called HMS and I complained and they’re gonna help me out. When the first reps from DMV Heating & Cooling came out here, they did the job but they didn’t install things correctly. It was causing my unit and my gas furnace to have more issues. I had a neighbor of mine come by in November and he mentioned that my pressure switch was bad but when DMV came out, they did not switch the pressure switch and it should’ve been switched back then in November. We had no heat for two months. We had to wait for a part that had to be ordered and it took close to a month. My four-year-old was the first one to get sick and then the rest of us started getting sick and it was because we didn’t have any heat in our two-level home. The portable heaters were not doing enough because it was just cold and this was in November and December time frame where the temperatures dropped really low.
DMV reassigned the claim because the tech was on vacation and they didn’t wanna come out here, so they wouldn’t pick up the phone. It took them two days to call me back. DMV is a big company but they are bad with communication. When I got Residential Systems, they were courteous and Mark was amazing. HMS should continue to do business with them. The technician that came out diagnosed the problem, figured out what it was, troubleshoot it, found the root cause and fixed it. Everything else was good with this recent claim and HMS really followed through. Rodemy, the supervisor, was amazing. I'm supposed to get a call back from her this morning because she missed me on Friday. So, I'm still waiting for her call. I had to pay Residential Systems $492 because of the work that DMV did improperly but I'm thrilled because I didn’t have to pay a deductible the second time.
This time around, there was constant communication and I received multiple call backs. The only thing that I dislike is that when you call in to HMS if you’re trying to do a claim over the phone, it gives you the runaround before you get to a representative. You have to speak into the virtual machine and it starts asking you all these questions. But then I realized I could do it online. Sometimes though, I like to explain so that it falls under the proper category. The drop down menus were what I was having trouble with and then I found out that my furnace is a gas furnace and not electric but it does give you the option now in the drop down menu.
I’ve had HMS here since 2015 and I have a townhouse in Virginia Beach, and I was curious as to why they canceled the policy at that townhouse. I used to have American Home Shield and then I switched over to HMS but they said that I would not be able to continue with the policy. I just got a letter with a random explanation. I ended up getting a new fridge and a new microwave because of it malfunctioning at my rental property and I have no coverage there. If HMS could investigate that, that would be nice. I was paying 51.99 for the rental property and I'm paying 46.99 for the property here, which is our primary residence. But I don’t have any coverage at the townhouse in Virginia Beach which I would love to have. If not, then everything else will have to go through my property manager and it’ll end up being a little bit more.
Oneris, We appreciate your feedback about your claim experience, and we regret that the service you received from the first provider was less than expected. We’ll have our Renewal team follow up with you to better explain the renewal at your Virginia Beach home. Sincerely, Amanda

I’m Hispanic and we don’t believe in insurance at all. I never had insurance. One of my co-workers told me, “Why don’t you get one of those home-protect-plan things because they cover a lot of things.” And then, I was like, let me try it out, just in case. I looked it up on the internet, and I saw TotalProtect, and that was it. And then, sure enough, a couple of months later, my heater went out. They came and they fixed it, and ever since then, I was like, I’m just gonna keep it and it also covers a lot of things. To me, if something happens, I just call, they come and they fix it. It’s also good craftsmanship. The work is really good work. And then, if it acts up a week later, they’ll come and the work’s guaranteed. I know I don’t have to pay out of pocket. I like that.
The only thing I don’t like is the contractors. One time, I had a claim for my AC and it was in the summer, and the guy told me he was booked for the next three weeks. I got mad because I have a plan and I’m paying for the plan. So, they should come and service it ASAP. And then, I went through four contractors that I called back. Filed a claim today due to refrigerator going out. They sent me an email and text, gave me a claim number and told me to call 1st Millennium Home Services LLP (888) 511-6155. This number is not in service. So not only do I not have a working refrigerator, I don't have a repair company to contact for my claim. No number to contact HMS directly, I have serious doubts anything will be done. I tried looking up 1st Millennium Home Services, cannot find it, only a healthcare company. Sounds like a scam to me. I doubt I could even get a refund for all the money I've paid to HMS, I could buy a brand new fridge no problem with all the money I've paid to them over 3+ years. Not happy at all.

Finally got to use our plan for our microwave that went out in November. I was never called to set up an appointment, I had to call and get an appointment. We have renters in our home. The repair man came and was told to our renters that the part would not come until 3 months later. I informed the company and was givenan option of $275 or replacing te microwave. We opted for the $275. We have yet seen a check from Total Protect Hone Warranty. I called 3 times and was told check was sent out. The first check I was told had a stop payment and that a second check would be issued. I did not recieve the second check. I was also told that the company changed it's name. Third call I made I requested to speak with a supervisor and was told I wasn't able too and was directed to accounting. I left a message and have not yet had a return call. Money was pulled out of our pockets to purchase a new microwave. I'm so tired of yge run around that I'm getting and will be talking with someone from Better Business Bureau.

We made a claim on the warranty after noticing water hammering in our pipes when running the washing machine. The warranty company sent a plumber from five hours away, who showed up with little to no equipment. He listened to the water hammering occurring, looked at the water shock absorbers behind the machine, and looked for the access in the wall and then looked at the main pipes in the garage outside. He advised warrant company to have a washing machine technician come out and look at the washing machine intake valve, which led to a delay and additional deductible fee. The washing machine was normal, the washing machine technician measured the house his water pressure is over 100 psi. We personally then dug over 3 inches of dirt off of the house’s water supply pipe leaving the water main in the yard by the street. There, we noted that there was no pressure regulator as there should be. And therefore we suspected the problem was actually due to high water pressure coming off of the water main to the entire house. We contacted the warranty company, noted that the original plumber was not particularly interested in addressing the problem nor brought the equipment to conduct a thorough evaluation (such as a water pressure gauge) or conducted a thorough evaluation on the day he came. He did not measure the pressure nor did it appear that he looked for the missing regulator in the yard. Therefore we requested a new plumber. Initially we were told by the company that they would find someone else. No one contacted us and we contacted the warranty company a week later. At that time they told us no there was no details in the notes about looking for another plumber and we had to stick with the original contractor for the job. We are now at an impasse, the job is not been completed, we are still told by the warranty company that we have to stick with this seem inept plumber. No new plumber has been assigned and the company is not considering assigning someone else to the job. We have asked for a refund on our policy since they will not provide a competent worker and they have refused. They also told us there would be a cancellation fee for the services.

Those guys for the heater were on the ball. They were here the next day to fix my heater and they were so nice. They’ve been here before, I think. So, Totalprotect needs to hang on to them. But this other guy that they sent me at first to fix my washing machine was a shyster. Then they got Sears out which they came according to schedule and then TotalProtect opted for me to get a new washer, which was fine. Everything went well after the shyster was taken care of, and I was able to stop going to the washeteria. After I complained about the shyster guy, TotalProtect got on the ball then. So, right now, I’m content with TotalProtect. It’s better than it was when I had my garbage disposal that took six months to fix. With my garbage disposal, these people came out, looked at it and never came back. But eventually, it was taken care of. What they need to do is make sure that whoever they send out are reputable.

I've had HMS Home Warranty for many years. I took it first ‘cause I had a really old house, and they came through for that. And then I moved to a condo and they’re here if I need them. And it’s nice to have, even though the price is going up. When I submit claims, I do it over the phone. I've gotten really good customer service. The people that were sent to look at my washing machine were wonderful. I think they were new in the area. They fixed it but it wasn’t really fixed, so they came back a couple of times. And now, it’s perfect. Also, they didn’t charge me more. They just said it was their fault. I would recommend them highly.

I got HMS when I bought the house and it’s been almost 5 years. I’ve only had to use them maybe 4 or 5 times but I wouldn’t go to anybody else. I get calls from the electric company or Ohio Edison or Columbia Gas and they’re always wanting me to do this but I said, “No. I have a home mortgage and they take care of everything.” I have never had any problems with anything.
I call and the claim is submitted ASAP. HMS would give us a name of the vendor that is coming to repair something and that vendor normally calls within 12 hours and tells us the date that they’re coming. If a part needs to be ordered, they elaborate when that part will be in. They’d call us again and tell us that they’re on their way. It’s been absolutely wonderful. For instance, the last vendor we got was Bay Area Heating, Cooling & Refrigeration and they called us within an hour after I actually called and submitted the claim. So, it's great because normally I can call a company to come out and they take forever to even return my call or to make an appointment. But these guys are absolutely wonderful and I would tell anybody to go through HMS.

We can’t flush our toilets when it rains. Did I mention I’m 7 months pregnant??? HMS has not helped a single bit in resolving the issues we’ve had under our warranty. It has been a complete waste of money.
Why have a warranty when the service providers offered by the warranty company are the worst in the state. I don’t understand?!?! And if someone from HMS (OTHER THAN A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE) would contact me, I would love to get this resolved before they are liable for preterm labor medical expenses from the lack of warranty coverage provided under our “policy”. We paid the astronomical co-pay and the claim was covered. We have now been almost 2 weeks with no heat because HMS has not released the PO to the HVAC company to get the parts needed. HMS gives us a different story each time we call, and we call everyday. They are a scam company who prey on homeowners with promises of assistance that are empty. I will never renew with HMS and I will preach it to the masses to not purchase an HMS home warranty.

When I submit claims with TotalProtect, I do it either on the phone or online. For me, it's easy. But there are some issues with the way the system is logging things. When my husband did it, he called and messed up. He said dish machine but it logged in as the laundry. When he called the people to fix it, originally it was for a heating element. They came but then the next week, it crapped out so they charged us for the dish machine issue, which charged it twice. When we got in touch with TotalProtect, we were told that since my husband logged the wrong problem, they didn't determine it was the same issue. It wasn't the tech's fault though 'cause they wouldn't know unless they get the symptoms.
But I was really happy with the first set of people who answers the phone. I called them three times and we were passing information. All of those three times, I got a person even though it was 4:55 in the afternoon, so I was shocked. They were also on time and they came when they said they were gonna be. Also, when I was looking for a warranty provider, I compared some prices and picked TotalProtect 'cause the other companies didn't cover dual HVACs, which I have.

The heating and air conditioning and the electrical contractors from HMS that I've used are great. But some of the appliance-specific contractors are not so great. It might have to do with the size of the companies that are part of their vendor list. They're small mom-and-pops companies servicing appliances and they're stretched a little too thin. Their knowledge levels are not so hot but it's adequate. The last claim I had was for a refrigerator. The contractors were grumpy and they didn't like to do repeat service calls. But when it was done, the fridge was running and performing properly. Still, the value of the warranty is good although there have been some issues in the past. It's a good investment and my needs are eventually taken care of every time I've used it.

Our realtor looked up HMS and for the benefits that it had, it was the best one that he found. The claims process is relatively simple. The first time we called in, I spoke to one of the customer service agents and told her what the problem was. She filed the claim and the contractor came out. They did the job in a relatively short period of time. The only thing was that we had to wait a couple of days when we were waiting for parts. We had a hot water heater that broke so they came in and they replaced it. They put in all the accessories that went with it and it went really well. We also had our freezer that went out, but it wasn’t covered. HMS has different plans and you can add a freezer in their plan, but we didn’t have that initially so the freezer wasn’t covered.

Since HMS is the one sending the contractors out, I'm at their mercy. But if it doesn't work, I can call them back and tell them that I need someone else. So far, some contractors that they've sent out were good, depending on the trade, and some were worthless. The better trade that I've had come out was the plumbing, which I was satisfied with. I had a home warranty and later on, when they changed my mortgage to a different company, it was no longer bundled with that. They got with a company and they had a sweetheart deal. Then they changed up over time. I got less and less and paid more. With my stove and air conditioner, I had to deal with this company locally here that said they didn't work with the other company but they work with TotalProtect. So, I got with TotalProtect and I stayed with them. They’ve been pretty good overall. When my air conditioner went out, I had to get a second opinion. They said they were providing me a name but this contractor was no longer working with TotalProtect. But it was okay. I had a good servicing agent and I was very pleased.
I got a third person and they never called me back. The other person they could get called me back. They finally got together and they were very good people to work with. I was glad I ended up with the company I ended up with, the servicing company. But it was confusing. I was given names and these people would never call me back. There was a runaround in getting me the correct technician online to talk to them. I even had to call my own people that I've been using for 20 years to verify. But I was pleased with the outcome and I didn’t worry about the heater going bad because it was coming on summertime. It would have been sooner but I didn’t really contact them. The monthly payment goes up though but TotalProtect did a very good job on the last couple of things. I had three things -- dishwasher, my stove and the refrigerator. HMS Home Warranty was recommended by the Realtors that was in our house. This was the one we picked 'cause there was more coverage and it was lower priced. When submitting claims, which I've only had to do it a couple of times, I just do it online usually. It will either give me a referral to call. If there's no referral in the area, then I call in and submit a claim. The online portal is pretty easy to use.
I like having the warranty and I think it's been a good provider. We had an HVAC guy come out once and he was really nice. We've used him since for other stuff. We really like him. He came out twice to look at our furnace. And then we recently had a team come out to look at our water heater. My husband said things went smoothly and the person I spoke with on the phone was really nice. It was the day after Thanksgiving so they were really quick to get out here and fix anything.
The only difficulty I have is that we live in a more rural area so there's some quite a few times they can't find an electrician to come to our area. They should maybe have a bigger network. I think one time, there was no electrician in our service. We just got to pick our own and they refunded us. That worked fine but apparently, we can only do that once a year. We needed to do it again and there was again, not someone in the service area. They said they didn't do the reimbursement thing anymore and we could only use it once. They should put that program back into place so that if we do need to ever find our own contractor, we can have part of the cost reimbursed.

The only problem I’ve had with TotalProtect for 15 years that I've been with them was getting contractors to respond to me. I’ve only used them a handful of times, but mainly for my AC and heat. I have an old house and all my stuff is old. My AC was 25 years old. It was still going, but it got a leak. They could not figure out what was causing the leak but it ended up being my main coil at the top of the furnace. It was leaking into my furnace and that was also what caused the problem with my heat. The water leaked into the motor which rusted the motor up. So, that was part of that too. But I didn't claim it as that. I did a separate claim.
It took a while to update my AC but when it did, it went good. I'm an electrician myself and I've worked with contractors for many years so I know how those guys can be and I know it's hard to get everything done in one sitting. From that AC failure, it leaked into my kitchen downstairs because my AC's upstairs and there’s a chase and I was out of town. When I came in on Saturday morning, I walked across the kitchen floor and it was wet. So the water had been dripping in it for a while and I didn't know. It ruined my floor and my kitchen but I took care of that too. I got a new AC and I just had my heat worked on. I had to get a part, but they fixed it quickly. So far, my experience has been good.

I used HMS once and though it started out rocky, it ended up perfect. I lost my hot water during Thanksgiving week, and I live in Virginia so it was a very cold temp. I had company coming in for Thanksgiving involving an 18-month baby, and I had no hot water. It happened at 5 o’clock on a Saturday and I couldn’t get a hold of a person until Monday. Everything was automated and one of the contractors that they assigned to me said on his recording that he wouldn’t respond on Monday morning. That wasn’t responsive enough. I call that an emergency. My realtor got a hold of a number with a person, but my paperwork only gives me automation. It allowed me to use the contractor that had already been to my house, and he said he’d come, unlike the other one that HMS assigned to me. He would come right then on the turn of the dime Saturday night.
Once the plumber came out, it was Monday morning. He stayed here all day long and put in the water heater. Because they classified it as an emergency, HMS didn’t make him wait to shop a lower level unit to see if they could get a better deal somewhere else. It was great because that meant they were gonna accept whatever the unit was that the plumber chose. It was all said and done by 6 o’clock Monday night. Overall HMS has a fantastic program and great coverage, but they should give a phone number in the paperwork that reaches a human being. Also, they should only take contractors that are willing to work weekends and evenings.

I reported two problems to TotalProtect, one is for the bathroom water that was not going and then a dishwasher issue and I paid $150 for the first time. They said that $150 is only for the bathroom issue and that we needed to pay for the washer. I ended up paying $258 from out of my pocket. ServiceMaster Plumbing was very bad. We had a cleaning and we were dealing with the sewage then. The moment they came in, they did not even look at what the issue was, they were asking for money. I paid $150 and told them that it was for the deductible. And then, they said they need to get a washer and then they went out for about two hours. After two and a half hours, they came and said that they have the washer and then they fixed it. And then they started saying, “This is not covered in the warranty.” It was taken care of but I had to pay out of my pocket for them. Overall, I am satisfied with TotalProtect. But at the same time, there are small nuances.

Awful! No longer managed by Sears – now out of business. Purchased Sears home warranty before they went out of business, had to cancel. No choice after. My heater went out. I could not reach anyone by phone for 6 hours. Hung up or transferred me overseas, etc. Then I was told they had no repairman in the area and I could choose one. I sat in a home in 13 degree weather without heat for 2 days! I paid the cost to repair 400-600 which was never reimbursed until a year later after numerous calls and emails.
This year for the so-called free inspection of heater, they sent a man 500 pounds who could not fit into space to check heater, with no id.. He arrived in a rusted truck...Alarmed, I requested a legitimate repair person who could inspect and was turned down all the way up to upper management! Someone who could not spell or use proper English emailed me to rebuke me for asking while denying my request.

I'm sure total protect is a great deal and warranty to have. However, they insist on using a local third party to determine what is wrong before sending anyone out to fix a problem. It is apparent they use the cheapest snails person who will charge the maximum deductable rate (far more than anyone else). In our experience this third party contractor determined nothing was wrong but tried to up sell us for several thousand dollars instead. This in despite of the fact that two other inspections found an issue and agreed on the issue. If you can't receive service then there is no point in having this service.

After my last review which was not favorable they did contact me. They did issue payment for the work I paid for. I will still have to give them a less than favorable rating. The years before this incident I gave nothing but High ratings. The customer service, the quality of the product replacement and the repair people that came here were all excellent. This time not so much.

I have been with this company for many years and never had an issue. Apparently they have new owners. Recently called to have an oven looked at on Nov 26th. The thermostat was broken. Their repair man could not find model number. I was told to call my own repair guy. He came found model number and said parts are no longer available. 6 emails and several phone calls later I was approved for a replacement oven.I finally received it on Jan 6th. I was approved for my guy to install which he did on Jan 15th. I sent copies of invoice and they keep telling me they need more info on what part broke and why? Are you kidding me? How many emails do I have to send and phone calls do I have to make? This is my first bad experience with this company but if this is how they are going to do business I may look for another.

We called CCHS to put a claim for a broken gas burner and no heat in our home on 01/02/20. They sent an incompetent service tech on 01/04/20. 2 days no heat. Tech said he needed to put claim for someone else to come and I paid him my deductible. Following day house temp was 56. Called company and no report or help. Called again on the 8th, again no updates. 7 days no heat. We had to get someone to fix boiler. I called company again for reimbursement on the 15th and they still didn’t have any info on my repair. They said the tech never sent his report.
So they left my family with no heat in winter for 15 days. They wouldn’t reimburse because they said it wasn’t authorized as per contract. They didn’t even know or explain why only that it wasn’t authorized. They didn’t care about our situation and if I hadn’t called again to follow they still would not have addressed. We had a similar issue the summer before when our central AC broke. Went 6 months with no AC unit, CSU’s rod internal paperwork issues and communication. I have been a customer for over 20 years and it is easily the worst and most dangerous experience I have had to date. They left a family of 6 with no heat for, in their case, 15 days and when we took matters into our own hands they said we weren’t authorized! There are other companies with better reputations and service.

They're quick and efficient. You get a quick turnaround once you submit your claim. And then, once you contact their vendor, their vendors are expedient as well. So, they expedite whatever your service is and make every effort to solve your issue and get you back into working order. I had an issue with my washer and dryer, and I put the claim in on a Saturday. Within hours, I got a phone call from the vendor, and the vendor went out the very next day on a Sunday morning. They fixed the issues a half hour early.

On Monday January 13th 2020, I filed a claim with HomeSure Services, Inc because a furnace in my house stopped working. I was told that at this time they don’t have a provider in our area (Lincoln Nebraska) but I have an option to contact a local service company of my choice to expedite a service request. But before starting job a provider of my choice has to contact them for work approval. I contacted a local company. A Tech from the company came on Wednesday ( January 15th) morning did a diagnostics and said that furnace needs a replacement. He called the insurance and they approve labor but they didn’t like the price for furnace. They said they will ship it from an undisclosed location. I called them this morning ( January 16th) and found out that nothing was done they didn’t do any paper work to approve service provider, the furnace wasn’t shipped and they didn’t agree to my plea to buy furnace locally because it is too expensive for them and they try to save money. Last night with temperature close to zero pipes got frozen and water on the second floor is not running now. It doesn’t look I will get furnace repaired this week. I called them multiple times trying to persuade them to buy furnace locally and to expedite paper work but nothing work with these people.

My experience with TotalProtect is sometimes good, and sometimes, not so good. Years ago, I had some minor stuff done and it worked out. But recently, I called them because I had a leak in my kitchen. I was told that the faucet needed to be replaced and that wasn’t their responsibility. Subsequently, I paid the guy 100 bucks to come out and tell me what he couldn’t do and I still have the leak in the kitchen under the sink.
Also, I had my heating unit inspected for the winter to get it ready and the service provider that I used said that there was a hole in the heat exchanger. I called TotalProtect and they sent a heating and air conditioning guy. The report said that because it was still functioning, it wasn’t an issue. I wasn’t happy with that because there was carbon monoxide that could be leaking so I'm gonna have to have the heat exchange replaced for the sake of my family, but TotalProtect turned it down. And I paid 100 bucks for nothing.
I've been with them for over 10 years, but I felt that they were not concerned with me and were more concerned with their business. I'm shopping and may end up going with someone else because I'm not satisfied with how they’ve responded to the times I've called. It's hard to get them by phone. When you call the number, it takes you to an electronic maze and you never get them. I have been successful in getting them online though.

HMS has a little bit of a communication problem with the way their system is set up. We own multiple properties, so when we put a claim in, they would assume that it was for our main property and the contractor would show up at our main property. That has happened a few times and it's a little frustrating, but they do resolve the issues. Also, some of the vendors aren't the best that are out there.

I have been paying this company to provide a service that they can't seem to offer me. My hot water heater broke, which is covered by my policy and they did not have anyone who could repair it in my area. Seems ridiculous to offer service to my area if they have no one to provide the service. I was instructed to find my own plumber to fix the water heater and when he came to the house and tried to jump through all their hoops, they would not approve the repair since it was not one of their authorized vendors. So here we are 4 days after filing the claim and no water in the house. The customer service representative that I spoke with, David, provided absolutely no help and would not transfer be to his supervisor. I would never recommend this company to anyone.
Thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback! Have a great day! - Austin

I've had the service of HMS for two years now and I was recommended to them by my Realtor. I haven't had any difficulty submitting a claim. It's a pretty easy process. I usually get someone out here within the week. The contractors I've had were professional and knowledgeable. However, they're usually not on time. That's the only problem that I have. I've had contractors give me a window of 1:00 to 5:00, and they may not show up until 8:00. And that's happened quite often. Also, when they come out, I get charged a fee every time. I would like to see that decreased. It's a little bit more than the company that I had before.

I’ve been with the company for more than five years. My experience when submitting a claim is favorable sometimes. Sometimes, it’s not. It takes a while sometimes to get the actual results. Sometimes, it’s actually fast. Some of the contractors are not well-equipped with knowledge. But for the most part, about 80% of them are wonderful. The quality of their work is excellent. Long story short: my bathroom flooded, repeatedly. Not only did it take them a week to get a plumber scheduled, the day of the appointment the plumber cancelled on me because their tool broke. They referred me to another company, and I called Total Protect to make sure I had authorization, and that if i was charged over the deductible amount, I would be reimbursed. Well, wouldn't you know, NOW they're trying to say i wasn't authorized, even though I spoke with no fewer than 4 people to try and make sure I was, and don't want to reimburse me. Not only that, but they were pretty rude to me on the phone. I'm cancelling my contract with them.
