I had Andersen window panes installed in my coastal Oregon home 15 years ago, to replace those installed in 1984. Nearly every pane leaked in a heavy wind and rain. I proceeded to caulk all possible openings, with silicon, even the trim strips around the glass. This stopped some of the leaking, but starting about ten years ago even this did not prevent the leaking. My interior wood frames have been damaged and I worry about dry rot setting in below the windows. I have another big window wall, facing east, that also started leaking and I really fear water damage below one of the windows and a leak developing on the interior.

I called Andersen starting ten years ago but they said they had no one that could help me on the Oregon coast. I gave up. But now I have Andersen coming, with the assumption I am buying all new windows. They have agreed to show up. Should be interesting. I have been warned about Andersen from three sources in the area, that they look good for about ten years. Two have been contractors, the third a glass installer. What to do?

We ordered a patio door 8/2020. This was a $4000 project. It was installed on 11/10/2020. It looks amazing. I think it was installed correctly and professionally. That night we had about 1/2" of rain with 10-15 mph winds. We live in Buffalo and anticipate harsher weather. We woke up to water in our track. It comes through the top and the bottom where the two panels meet. We had two service managers out to the house. They both never checked for where the water comes in. They reiterated that it's normal. One even said we were "nitpicking". I want the company to remove the doors and give us our money back. I am not satisfied with the product or customer service. Our 20 plus year old door never let in water. It was warped and would not allow the screen to open any longer.

Andersen Windows is pretty much the best on the market for Colorado and our weird weather. I got 14 windows and 2 patio doors. I used Oros Home Enhancements, a local company here, to do the installation. They made it look easy. This is a big job. I have a patio door that's 30 feet off of the ground, and they did a great job. I love my windows and doors.

Disappointed to have less than 5 year old windows that no longer latch and let all of the elements in. When I tried contacting customer support for assistance all they would do is charge me for a rep to come out and fix a shotty product that is under warranty or send me a link...very helpful (sarcasm). I have a number of friends and family with plans to build new homes in the works and I have already warned them against using Andersen products. So much for that fantastic warranty and customer services you try to brag about.

Thank you for your review. Andersen's warranty covers issues in manufacturing. This does not include any labor for site inspections or labor to replace sash, door panels, glass or other components. Most issues can be diagnosed using photos. If you want an Andersen service provider to come out to your home for an inspection, there will be a cost involved whether it’s scheduled by Andersen or independently through a service provider in your area.

My experience was a nightmare. I hired the contractor and paid them at least 2,500 more than any other company. But it turned out that they are a bunch of amateurs who have no clue. After they delivered the door, they sent two people who have no clue how to install it. They were at my house from eight o'clock in the morning to maybe six o'clock in the afternoon or seven o'clock. They could not do it. They already had taken the old door down. I reached the point that I could not handle it anymore. I called their manager and he called someone from the company. They had to call someone from Andersen who came the next day and told them they had to leave one centimeter on each side. He also said they had to center it in the middle and put the insulation. He came a couple of times and told them to do this and that.

The owner came and apologized. They said they'd bring someone else the next day. In the meantime, I have no door so I had to get a bedsheet and put it around the door. Anybody could just walk in and kill me but I had no other choice. The next day, they came and brought another guy. What he did was just hung the door and left for them to finish it up. They got another amateur kid. He removed all the insulation for the old one but he did not replace it or even put it back. They also removed the track of the screen door.

In the contract, it said they have to install a new screen door. Now that they have removed the whole thing and they installed the new one, I don't know how they're gonna do this. I have no clue. Those people should not be in this business. They called me and tried to calm me down because I was up to my ear. I could not stand it anymore. They said they already ordered the screen door. I don't know where they ordered it if it was from from Andersen or did they buy it from a store. If you go to Lowe's or Home Depot, they are there.

I told them the exterior frame has to be removed and replaced. They totally damaged it because they nailed it a zillion times. They kept removing it and nailing it and removing it. They did not insulate the perimeter of the doorframe. The workmanship leaves a lot to be desired. It was very poorly done. They were supposed to cap all the exterior woodwork in aluminum coil but they didn't. They put some plastic. I said, "That's not what's in the contract. In the contract, it says aluminum." He wanted to convince me that what they have is aluminum. I said, "Don't insult my intelligence, please."

The door is supposed to be installed in one day in a few hours. My neighbor across the street had their front door installed. It took them like three, four hours and it was done perfectly. I had a window replaced years ago. They came in two days and they were done, and I have like 30 windows. This is the second door I have installed. I had a sliding door replaced and the same day, it was done. I expected this is supposed to be the same thing. When you have some good knowledgeable people who can do the job, it's totally different when you get some amateurs who have never done the job.

According to the guy from Andersen, Andersen guaranteed the workmanship for two years. How would they guarantee people who have no clue about any of that work? The work is inferior but I have no choice. The damage is done and I'm sick and tired. I still have the work on the exterior frame that has to be redone and I'm still waiting for the screen door. It's been a month and I have to wait until the 16th of November until they get it. I am stuck with the worst company you can ever imagine. Once they put that thing and do it the way it's supposed to be done, I don't wanna see their face anymore. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.

I liked the reputation of Andersen Windows. I've purchased many windows, sliding glass doors and a bay window. They said, “It would be within a couple of weeks, it would be all finished.” However, there's been such a backlog of Andersen itself, and I'm still waiting on two window screens. But I don't have any concerns of quality. The contractors who came to install were super honest. They texted me when they were coming out. They were always on time. They were very nice. They always wore masks. They were very good. Some of the windows we had were kind of uneven. We have huge, long windows right next to each other and they were uneven and they were able to make everything even, and aesthetically, it looks perfect.

Andersen has expensive windows and is supposed to deliver quality, I wouldn't know, the only thing I have received are screens and hardware. 4 days prior to the promised delivery date Andersen claims to not have the mull piece, literally 4 small pieces that put two windows together, nothing special or unexpected. Several phone calls and requests for a solid delivery date, I am told several stories of why the windows are not being delivered as promised all involving the mull. HD couldn't make heads or tails of the notes entered by your company, the HD Andersen line agent and area rep were surprised as this wasn't normal since this is a standard window. The promised return call from the area rep, still waiting to get after two weeks. You guys are on top of it lol

Of interest is the statement that Andersen takes 4-6 weeks to make a window. For some odd reason, in the age of computers, Andersen does not bother to check stock or order parts if needed when they receive an order I am locked into and have paid in full. Claiming all of your window are made in house yet you need parts for some undisclosed company is a fabrication no matter which way you slice it.

Two weeks after being told back orders happen deal with it, I am told the "new" ship date (not delivery) is a month out. Delivery will take 10-15 days more and it not their responsibility. Exactly when does Andersen take responsibility for anything? I could have made two consecutive orders during this time, from anyone, had it manufactured, delivered and installed before Andersen figures out how to make this window. Andersen wasted my time, stopped my progress and did more damage than they can possibly understand, but will. Ordered 9/11, promise date 10/13 4.5 weeks. Back ordered 10/6 notified HD 10/9. New promise date 11/9 4.5. Delivery 10+ days?

For a standard window it will take 2-3 time longer than industry standards with no guarantee. Why am I paying top dollar for this type of shoddy work. The lack of clarity, ability to find out why the mull is back ordered (non Andersen mull kits void the warranty) and how it is Andersen needed to start over making the window again is mind boggling. Honestly this entire fiasco is a flat out lie.

The $2k I paid may not be much to Andersen, it was months of saving up for this disable vet on a fixed income. All I wanted was the truth, Andersen CS and escalation dept acted as if this were my fault, I needed to be a good little customer and do as I am told. I made several requests to have someone contact me to explain how this took 2-3 times as long as it should for a normal order, all of which were ignored. You really should have answered my questions. The excuses should have been more believable. Why would I trust Andersen to produce a quality window or honor a warranty after this. Why should anyone?

For us it was a security issue as we have dogs. It was a stupid terrible mess and made it so that we could not open our door. We called customer service no less than nine times. They have an offshore service where their mission is to not help you and they are unable to speak English on a helpful level. Finally we got a person in the states by the last name of Paulson. She said all the right things. Looked at our documentation and said that if we sent her a copy of the receipt that a refund would be sent. We sent it. She said she did not get it so we went it again. Then again... It's been months and really all their efforts are to delay and deny. Andersen takes down any and all negative comments on their Facebook page. So those reviews are not honest.

We are building a new home and purchased both 200 series (double hung) and 400 series (casement) windows for our new home. The 400 series were almost all in good shape - we had one that the weather seal needs to be replaced. Most of the 200 series windows are not in good shape. Scratched glass, not latching, top sashes lean to left, marks and scrapes on the wood, outside wood exposed where wood has been chipped, jam not nailed, latch for tilt out not working. The list is long. I wish we'd gone with all 400 series because I feel like we got a lot of 200 series windows that should have gone into a discard pile.

I would never buy these windows again and am sorry we did the first time. I'm pretty sure there are better windows out there than the 200 series Andersen. We are trying to get the issues resolved and were assured that they would be resolved quickly but that is not proving to be the case. Our build has come to a halt as we wait for Andersen to come up with a resolution. Very disappointed in Andersen windows and their ability to resolve issues quickly.

We built a new cabin in Northern Wisconsin in 2018. We purchased the E-series windows because they have blinds between the window panes. We had a similar product that we loved from another company in 2 previous houses so we were eager to try Andersen's "new and improved" version. The windows were placed in the fall. The blinds arrived bent and the strings that raise/lower the blinds for one window broke immediately. They came to straighten the blinds but you can still tell where they were bent.

During the winter all the windows had condensation half way up. We have not had that problem with new windows in any of three houses in the last 20 years, same climate. The Andersen rep told us it was because we had high humidity due to the new construction. We are in northern Wisconsin. High humidity in the winter does not occur! But we patiently waited through a second winter. No improvement. One of the windows cracked and they did replace it. Now there is mildew along all the casements. My husband took them all down and cleaned them. Andersen's customer service reps are very nice but the company will not replace the windows. They state the E-series is being re-engineered and they admit there are faults with them. They will not give us any other product to replace these. And recently another string used to raise/lower the blinds has broken.

Our area is experiencing a gnat infestation. These windows are so open at the bottom that these gnats crawl in under the windows. We vacuum the window sills every morning because they are covered with gnats! So unless you like condensation, broken blinds, mildew and gnats inside your house I don't recommend purchasing the E-series windows. Other companies have better products and I wish we had used ones we were happy with in the past, even if we had to get service from a greater distance.

I bought 4 x Andersen E Series Eagle patio doors. 3 of them are 8-foot patio doors. 2 of the doors get stuck when the outside temperature hits over 90 directly under the sun. When It cools outside and temperature goes down, the doors open fine. I bought these during my remodeling in early 2019. I noticed the problem during the hot July month and I called Andersen. They sent over a contractor in August 2019 who said that the patio doors were not installed properly and he was showing me all sort of ways to prove why it was not installed properly.

I am an experienced home builder and this guy could not explain what not installing properly has to do with doors getting stuck when outside temperature goes over 90. His only explanation was the metal base frame expands and retracts under the heat and because the patio doors were not installed properly, when the metal frame bends, the doors get stock to it.

By the way, this metal he is talking about is made from steal and it is not possible to bend by not installing a door properly. I let it go until this summer 2020 and again the door get stock once July temperatures hit over 90 during the peak of the day. I took video of door getting stuck and opening properly both during cool and hot outside temperature. On top of that, one of the doors, the glass broke without any reason. I called Andersen and they would not take responsibility for it and I had to pay about $700+ to have a new glass sent to me. I passed on the $2000 to have it replaced by them since again, I am an experience home builder. I am going to continue documenting this issue and call Andersen again. This thing is diffidently going to go to court if they don't take responsibility for it.

So I called them and a person came out and told me the manufacturer didn't make the screen tight enough and one was warp. I struggled to like the screens since I paid extra but I couldn't live with it. When I hard from Andersen she was going to charge me over 400 dollars for the screens which were not even 4 months old. I called and they said they would pass it on to the manager. I have never heard back from them. Andersen has poor customer service when my windows were over 7000 dollars. Helen **

I am happy to report that Andersen Windows resolved my complaint. I have been reimbursed for the cost of purchasing a complete repair kit for my storm door. All I needed was one little pin. They stated they will contact the person who gave me the wrong information and took the order & charged me $42.00. However, I am not very happy that I had to chase them down. If it were not for being quarantined, I wouldn't have had the time, nor inclination to bother writing a consumer complaint. I would have just absorbed it and determined not to recommend Andersen again. As a Realtor, people often ask for recommendations for home improvements. I have often given them Andersen windows. I may again. But, with a caveat.

    Original Review: May 5, 2020

As a Realtor, I have talked to hundreds of homeowners about windows, doors etc. Andersen is one of the top two favorites for quality and installation. So, when I needed to replace two storm doors, I naturally ordered from Andersen. All was great, until I needed a part. The screw, ONE SCREW had come out of the cylinder that holds the screen door open. I tried to find one that would fit, to no avail. When I called Andersen, my ONLY choice was to pay $42.00 for a replacement kit for the cylinder. That did't include a cylinder, which I didn't need, but a plate and a hand full of random screws. But, $42.00, when ALL I needed was ONE single screw???? THAT is not the type of service that I expected. I will pass this information on to people asking me for advice.

I recently bought a house in Corolla N.C. that has Anderson windows. We removed the screens to do some cleaning and screen repair. At the same time I was installing artificial turf on my South West facing deck. In March as the sun came up and hit the energy efficient windows. It focused the sunlight onto my brand new Artificial grass. I thought a contractor had laid a hot pipe or rod on the new turf and burned a 2" wide by 6' long trench into the plastic grass. Later in the day I noticed a 8" wide by 10' long singed area on the other side of the deck. The only common thing was two windows at a 45 degree angle to the back of the house.

Next morning I check out the morning sun reflection and sure enough the artificial turf is too hot to touch. I researched and found that these windows have melted vinyl siding on neighbors' houses! I immediately put the screens back on and minimized the damage. If someone had been laying out on my deck they would have had a serious burn line where this turf had melted. The turf melts at 193 degrees and this melted right down to the base material. Had to be well over 200 degrees. It cost me about $1,000, but that's nothing compared to what could have happened if I wasn't home and this happened every day, it would have destroyed the whole $30,000 project. Or worse seriously hurt someone. My question is, why is this very dangerous situation not common knowledge. Now that I've researched it I find it has happened frequently out west.

And the guys who were here couldn't do the service because the seal was broken. And they couldn't fix it because that's what came in the box. So, I had to have a service come out and fix it right away. I'm disappointed for the money that I spent 'cause I spent more on the door because of the name and the amenities. And then to have so much trouble with it right off the bat. I love the door, it's beautiful. I love the amenities, it's got the built-in blinds. However, the installation team was absolutely horrible. It was through Home Depot and they sent a crew that was from out of state and so they were in a big hurry to get home the next day. They were rushing everything and they weren't skilled with putting those particular windows in. They just made a mess. It took three years to get all of this settled. They broke the frames of a couple of the windows and didn't tell us, and we didn't find that out till later.

To make matters worse, they pocketed money from the contract designed to go towards insulation materials. They did not insulate the windows at all which is a crime. We were probably moment's away from suing everyone before it was made right. We had a really rough time with that. They eventually fixed it. Overall, I would definitely recommend the Andersen Windows, but I would tell others to make sure they find a good installer, and if they go through Home Depot, they should make sure that the installation team is local so that they can come back the next day and they're not in a hurry.

When we built our home, we chose Andersen windows and an entry door for our deck because of name recognition. The double hung windows look nice but have consistently leaked air where the two sashes meet. In the winter this becomes the most problematic because the cold air infiltrates at the junction and meets the warm air of the house to form condensation. The water then pools on the wood window which is obviously not good for its integrity. When it is cold enough as in the attached photos, this water becomes ice. We try to keep the water wiped off, keep our blinds up, and run ceiling fans.

When I've contacted Andersen over the years, I have been repeatedly told it is our fault for keeping our home too moist. We monitor our indoor humidity with a hygrometer and never have abnormal moisture levels. In fact, it is normally so dry here in the winter the woodwork pulls apart. I would believe it is our fault if the condensation formed over the entire window just as it does on a bathroom mirror or car window. It ONLY forms where the window sashes meet. Only on my last call to Andersen did the representative admit the windows leak air here. She suggested the need to refinish or repaint the windows.

Andersen’s response will be that we have high humidity in our home. I want to stress three things: 1) we monitor the humidity and know it is completely within normal ranges and exceedingly dry in winter 2) condensation only forms where the two sashes meet. The condensation does not form on any other portion of the glass which would occur if the glass was uniform in temperature 3) The condensation NEVER forms on the large glass panes of the patio doors or our front entry door. If humidity levels were the problem, condensation would form on these surfaces exposed to the same ambient temperatures and interior humidity levels as the double hung windows.

The Andersen entry door unit on our deck has a problem with the white outer panels separating from the door. This allows water to enter the door itself. My mistake was trying to stay on top of it myself by re-gluing the panels and trying to keep the joint caulked. Although I called Andersen, I should have documented it when it first started. My parents had the exact same door unit on their sunroom failed in the same way. In short, I feel that the premium price we paid for Andersen windows and the door was a poor investment.

About five years ago, they fogged up. The techs came out and they fixed them because of a defect in them. And now, one of them has failed again, and I could replace it. It’s in the casement windows, and just to replace one side of them is almost $200 and it’s ridiculous. The thing is, the windows only cost me $300 when I first bought them, and that was for one side of the casement windows. So, I didn't do it yet. I dealt directly with the Andersen Windows on it, and they make you look for a little date on the window - the date it was made - and I just missed the 20th or 30th year mark.

They cost a lot of money, and Andersen should stand by them and do it forever, unless there’s something wrong with the installation or something else. But as far as the window itself, because if you had to take the whole window out and replace it like new construction, which they are, then it would cost an arm and a leg to do that now. And the only way to remedy the problem is that either they charge you a real lot of money to come out and just replace the window without taking the whole thing out. It’s almost like they got you. Also, the prices that Renewal come out with are ridiculous. People just laugh at them when they come out. Fibrex is a good window, but the prices that they ask for installation and all that are ridiculous. I like Andersen. They're just very expensive.

I bought a new Anderson Patio door 400 series in March of 2019. I bought it from DeWitt Lumber in Midland, Mi., it was installed in May/June of 2019. Could not find a contractor. DeWitt Lumber, Hal and Carie are some of the best folks I have ever worked with. All of my business will be done with DeWitt! Hal recommended my great contractor, took care of getting a new screen, one that came with the door looked like they dragged it behind the truck from MN. They recommended that I get the 400 series, living on the east side of a lake. I have been thrilled, it is warmer than before, quieter than before, and my heat bill dropped for the middle of the winter heating costs. All of the windows in my home are Anderson, I beg anyone to find a better window or door. I believe in Anderson and their warranty, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! Thank you.

I chose Andersen Windows based on the "Brand"... I replaced all the windows in my house with the 100 series, single hung 8 years ago. I like most consumers I gladly paid the higher cost for the Andersen Brand with the assumption that their products would be of high quality, and would be issue free for many, many years... One of the windows will no longer open or close. After an hour on the phone with their customer service it was determined that the "Balancer" is broken.

My options to have this $10 part repaired/replaced are: 1- Fix it myself using a YouTube video as instruction; but if I damage any of the window while doing so the warranty is voided. And, additional parts or repairs will not be covered. 2 - Have a Certified Andersen Technician come to my home and replace the Balancer; the cost for this is $260. As noted in the warranty labor is not covered; just be advised that their labor costs will be EXTREMELY high. If you are not a window repair expert and are unable to do your own repairs on Andersen's products I would advise looking into other brands.

Built a new house in 2006 and installed Andersen Windows and doors all around. About 5 years after moving in I had a three point latch on one of the doors break. Called the warranty phone number and they mailed me a replacement right away for me to install. Then in 2015 I notice three of the 400 series windows had a crack in the cladding. Again called the warranty number and they replaced all three windows free. Warranty service is great but once it expires after the 10 years watch out. I now just had the service people out as I have 3 sliding 200 series windows that had rotted and the windows are about to fall out. No Warranty and going need to replace all 6 sashes. Seems to me these should last much longer than 15 years before rotting out.

This was their seventh home and they chose everything, including the Andersen windows that were put up. And they did a great job. We’ve only been here three years and everything works well so far. We don’t open the windows very much because we run air in the summer and heat in the winter. But we mostly use the sliding door and we haven’t noticed any issues. They’re as I expected and to me, they’re like brand-new.

Updated on 02/26/2020: I reviewed my unhappiness with the design of these windows. (See prior review) Andersen’s response was that they were sending new screens, which does nothing for the design flaw! They have totally NOT ANSWERED my specific questions about the design. If you are considering E-Series with system 3 blinds, better look very careful at what you're getting!

Original review: I can not imagine anyone in the window business would design such a pathetic product. There is nothing to keep insects and bugs from coming into your house! The slides on the screen that you have to close when the window is open, do not close well enough to keep any insects out! Also the hole in the side of the screen frame is about the size of a pencil, the cords to raise the blinds come through this hole and there is no way to seal it, allowing another place for even large bugs the come into your house. If the window is open and you have to close it, anything that is in the space between the screen and the open casement is now free to come into the house through and even larger opening. Andersen or the dealer from which we purchased these windows have DONE nothing about this. They all claim we should have known what we bought. Tough! Do not buy this product.

This fall I noticed that the top latch for the window was not latching, only the bottom latch. Which left about a two inch gap on the top where the window wasn't closing all the way. Not a good thing to happen in Minnesota. An Andersen Window contractor was sent out. They ordered three new sashes for the ones that would not close. They put those in and they still wouldn't latch. I was told that they would reach out to Andersen as well as the builder to find a solution. As of yet I have not heard a word and it's been over six weeks. I had always heard Andersen made a good window and stood behind their product, now I'm not so sure.

I had a lot of experience with Andersen. When I initially bought my house, I put in all my own windows so Andersen Windows was the logical choice when I went to replace them. I bought it from Home Depot and installed the sliding patio door. What you had to buy was a little confusing. Instead of you buying a kit, you kinda bought things a la carte. You buy the three pieces, then you bought the two others and then you had to buy another piece. At the Home Depot that I went to, I was told I needed this, this, and this, but I didn't. And there was a fourth piece that I had to go run out and buy because it wasn't apparent to me that I needed the part. It didn't come with any handle, which was the dumbest thing. And that was not even talked about. I was also kinda taken back that Andersen didn't include hardware anymore. And the hardware was extremely expensive.

We love the quality of the windows. I stepped up a little bit to the 400 Series and I'm very, very happy with its very warm door. We had the original one in the dining room and it was much colder. The new one is much better insulated and has the blinds inside it. We also love its wood finish. I love the door. However, I would not go for their lowest quality. I'd go for middle or top of the line. There's a huge difference between their economy brands.

I also had Andersen come in on my original windows because the gas had been depleted within the windows. They were reflecting over time and it just naturally happened. The windows went concave and became powerful lenses that refracted sunlight onto the ground and burned things. It actually melted a garbage can. Andersen came, measured the panes and every single window and replaced a whole bunch of them.

Andersen was our builder's supplier for windows and we had their Silver Line window installed. Andersen met the timeline that we expected and the initial quality of the window was fine. However, after about eight years of owning it, the mechanism that makes it easy to lift up and down completely broke. I can no longer open and close the window. And since the builder was the original purchaser of the window, I don't have any receipts or evidence that I purchased it, which Andersen requires in order to file a warranty claim. They want the actual serial number and an invoice showing that I ordered the window. The window was delivered with a big sticker on it that had all that information but the builder took that off before I took ownership of the house.

I've been trading emails and phone calls with Andersen several times, but we're currently at, "Well, we can't help you without the specific model and a receipt or an invoice saying that you purchased it." I told them the exact date of my closing and that it was within the warranty period. They keep sending me the same form that requires the invoice. So, I can't fill it out. Right now, I'm stuck with a broken window and I do not know how to proceed.

The locking mechanism broke in one French casement within weeks of being installed. A replacement mechanism was sent & installed, but it still doesn't lock properly. The other French casement has now broken. Neither locked reliably, and I would NOT recommend these French casement windows. Two of the standard casements have had locking mechanism problems, one has required replacement. I would not recommend these windows to anyone based on our experience. They look fantastic and work great. I have zero complaints at all about the products. Andersen still makes the best stuff as far as I'm concerned.

On the negative side, working through the Home Depot instead of with Andersen directly was very difficult. Delivery of the products was also a nightmare. The delivery company left two pallets of extremely heavy stuff in my driveway while it was pouring rain on a Saturday when I had no crew working and left. Working with Andersen customer service has also been tough. They constantly refer me to the Home Depot who, in turn, refers me back to Andersen. It's a constant circle and takes forever to get anything resolved. For example, Andersen shipped the wrong size piece for the screen door frame on one of my patio doors and it's like I have to prove, via the Home Depot, with a picture and a tape measure what the problem is. Trying to get a repair for a window that was damaged during delivery was also a nightmare. I finally was able to get a rep to come out and he provided a sensible solution -- but getting him there was nearly impossible.

When I first had my Andersen Windows, I was very happy with them. And when somebody tried to break into my house, my doors and windows stopped them. It seemed like that somebody messed things up though. I had the crowbar marks, then the lock had finally broken and I was worried about it. So, I called out Acre Windows & Doors because they said that they were an Andersen authorized dealer. Their guy told me that he was gonna replace the one I had with exactly what I had. He said that the only difference would be that the core was gonna be a fiber tech core instead of the wood. He also said that I was gonna be so much happier with it and that it was gonna work so much better than what I had then.

But the replacement has, in no way, shape or form, been anywhere near what I had before. This replacement is a piece of junk and they've been out here many times to fix it. The handle was a knobby thing on the outside and on the inside, the lock was integrated in with the handle to the point that I cut my hand every time I would try to lock and unlock the door. They’ve given me a little bit better of a handle now, but the screens are nothing like they used to be. In fact, it lets rain in my house which is ridiculous. The screens were so thin that with the first two storms that we had with the winds coming through, the screens came off of the door. I never had anything like that before.

All in all, my first Andersen was wonderful. But this latest Andersen is a nightmare. I cry when I come and look at this door because of what I paid for this. When you walk into your house, you’re not supposed to be sad, you’re supposed to be happy. And you make an update to improve things, not to make it worse. My last door's lock was broken and it had crowbar marks in it, but it kept the rain outside. Now I’m beside myself on the fact that I have rain coming into my house and I’m very dissatisfied.

We had over a dozen different communications with Andersen, and they mailed out three different locking mechanisms that were all defective every time, until we finally got the fourth or the fifth lock. It took about two months to finally get it right with Andersen and I couldn't lock my back door for two months.

I thought Andersen was a reputable brand. It was either that or Pella, which was around the same price, sold at Lowe’s. But I went with Andersen because of the brand name, but I will never do that again. They would piecemeal out the parts to me instead of sending the whole mechanism. And I would have to call back, wait on hold, start a whole new case number. I must've had 10 different case numbers with Andersen. They made it right in the end, but it shouldn’t have taken two months and an unsecured house with a family in it to do that.

They were aware of it and they were apologetic. But it’s very frustrating for the buyer, going through that process. They should try to do things quickly and make it right the first time instead of trying to piecemeal it together over the course of months. It probably cost them more in postage to send it out every time instead of doing it right the first time.

They matched the stucco very well. They didn’t damage that much of it either, taking out the old windows. So, they did a good job. And they almost got it done in a day. They had to come back a second day to finish up a little bit. But it was a quick install. I do have one window that seems like maybe the frame is tweaked a little bit. It’s a little stiff to open up and close. It’s in a spare bedroom, and there doesn’t seem to be any air leaks, so I wasn’t that concerned. It’s actually been that way for a while, after the installation.

The salesman came here from Andersen Windows but he was so overpriced that my husband said no even though I really wanted it. But when we went to Home Depot and found the same exact thing for half the price, we both wanted it then. The installer was wonderful. He had a helper with him and took them several hours. We loved the patio door window. It replaced the one that was 50 years old, which I could hardly pull closed and open. This one is wonderful and it was very similar to our other one, which was why we went with this style.

I was told the most popular choices are either Andersen or Milgard. Since we have patio doors that swing out, I chose Andersen because they have the wood frame. Milgard has better warranty, it's lifetime and much longer time on the other things compared to Andersen, which is only 10 or 20 years. That made us hesitate a bit. But we liked the look of Andersen slightly better.

However, I'm not too happy about its installation. For one, it’s custom-order so it takes a long time to deliver. And when we opened it up, there were defects. The sliding door only has small things broken, but without the whole frame it's not usable. We have exchanged it into a completely different frame. So, we have to uninstall and then wait for the parts and then reinstall. It was a pain to get things done. Also, we had the window crack, so it had to be replaced. There were quite a few defective parts and every time, it does take a long process to get it repaired or replaced. They need to improve their post-sale service and their warranty program.

I been having an 8 month ongoing dispute with Home Depot and Tracey Becker corp. over the above stated door. The overwhelming level of incompetence started from the minute the Tracey Becker representative showed up to measure the door. Without going into full details my review just wanted to point out this fact, beyond the parent company in Minnesota no one works directly for Andersen not the retailer not the installer not even the people that service their warranties and in fact when I wanted someone to come look at my door the warranty service poeple we found online wanted a 200 dollar service fee to come which after long conversations with Andersen corporate decided to waive the fee but to this day will not return a phone call.

There is no training or level of competence required from Andersen to associate with them and even though they publish installation manuals they are normally totally disregarded as in my case which results in no continuity between any of the companies involved which makes it impossible to reach any kind of resolution because if the problem doesn't have anything to do with the actual construction of the product Andersen just simply doesn't care about the outcome of your complaint. Which in my opinion is a pretty ** way of doing business since I just spent 6000 00 with their company and the job was ** from minute one. Thanks Andersen. After installation it was found that the fixed portion of the glider is out of square, from the factory, silicone smeared on the glass, the miters are brutal, they leak like crazy through the weather stripping. I used to build homes up north and I’ve used Andersen there. I got my casement windows at a good price from Home Depot, where they had a sale going on. I like that they are composite fiberglass. Being in Texas, I didn’t want vinyl or wood. And the U-factor is better than a lot, especially, at the price. One of the windows, however, was not closing properly. I had to put some pressure on the outside to get it to close. And once it closed, it adjusted itself. I left it closed for about a month, and when I reopened it, it has been working fine since. But I’ve had two issues with it. One is that the cranks are a little difficult sometimes. Also, the sleeves that go over the locking lever like to pop out. I never called Andersen about that because they pop back in, and it’s just a matter of fixing it myself which is not a big deal, but it’s one of those that could be done better.

Still, I would recommend Andersen. They were pretty responsive. At first, I had a little problem with Home Depot when I had the problem with the one locking. But I insisted, and they finally reached out to Andersen. A guy was scheduled to come see me, but by the time he would’ve gotten here, the window had fixed itself. So I just canceled the meeting with them. And it has been a good window. In the past, I’ve used other brands, like Pella, and a lot of people down here are using the Ply Gem, which is a contractor-grade window. And I just didn’t want them. This is our forever home, so I want to put a good window in.

Two years ago I discovered that the lower sashes were rotting. I contacted Andersen Windows customer service and was advised that the windows were guaranteed for 10 years and were out of warranty. I purchased two lower sashes and had them replaced.

Recently I discovered that the vinyl clad was separating on the outside from the wood beneath and captured water was causing the fungus and rot. Water was penetrating the inside of the house thru the upstairs walls and dripping into the house downstairs. I have nine windows that according to my builder need to be replaced. Clearly this situation has been going on for some time and maybe well before the warranty expired. Andersen as been cordial and polite and sensitive to my problem but not willing to replace my windows. It would be thoughtful of the company to come to my rescue but I've been given little encouragement. Maybe the legal process will be my last resort...not a route I choose to take.

Initially I called about a panel that had a broken seal and after determining that it was within the warranty period, they very nicely followed through with shipping me a replacement panel. It arrived UPS within days and was left outside without even a doorbell ring. My husband had just had shoulder surgery so I was left to pull the panel into the house. It weighed a ton. Not Andersen's problem. But noteworthy that it weighed so much we were not able to scrutinize every edge. I painted the part of the frame that would be going behind the movable panel.

Today was the day of the installation. The authorized dealer pointed out a dent and a chip to the edge of the panel, but since I live in Maine, and it is November, I felt I had no option but to install the damaged panel. After working for over two hours, repeatedly adjusting the weather stripping, the installer finally realized that the panel was warped and he was unable to accommodate no matter how hard he tried.

I called Andersen Headquarters to see if they had any suggestions as to how to proceed. The representative said he could send out yet another panel. Two problems with that solution: 1. we just spent $285 to install the panel and would have to pay another $285 to install a second panel, and 2. we are leaving for California in less than 2 weeks. I appreciate that Andersen is the manufacturer, but I felt that more than likely I wasn't the first to encounter this situation. What to do.

The rep's supervisor came to the phone and first off said he looked at my original claim and he didn't think I warranted the panel to begin with - it just looked like condensation. This got me riled. He then implicated the installer as not properly making the necessary adjustments - despite my telling him that the guy had 3 or 4 times worked with the weatherstripping.

Exasperated, I asked if I should call my insurance company or did they have a claims department - I just wanted to know how to proceed. They offered to send me another panel (while we were 3500 miles away) and that it was my responsibility to pay for the installation again. I said, "Okay, I guess I can just nail the slider shut and use another door. He said sometimes these things work themselves out". I said "I'm old, I might be dead soon". He laughed.

The top has about a two inch piece of black rubber and the bottom is a rounded plastic type piece the window slides in. There is a pile weather strip about the size of a dime that appears to fit where the two pieces come together that sticks on the outside of the window guide. On my windows the round piece has a has a small rubber strip across the middle which would compress if properly horizontally aligned. On my windows, one window was missing one of the round pieces, another had the strip placed vertically and not horizontal and none of them appeared to be placed the exactly the same spot. The ones at Home Depot appeared to a bit larger but I did not have one to compare size and the black strip was not obvious. VERY disappointed in the windows as they leak air, you can actually see light outside! I contacted an Anderson rep (nice guy but did not know anything about windows) and my installer and each came out and inspected the windows. The installer sent a third-party installer to look at them and everyone blamed everyone else. I kept telling them there is some type of weather stripping issue. These windows tilt to clean, but no one bothered to tilt them in. Being very frustrated, I figured how to tilt them (different mechanism than other windows) and outcomes large chunks of sheet rock. Obviously that helped some to clean that up.

The windows are double hung and leak air along where the sashes meet, especially on the sides--wind just blows in from the outer edges where the sashes meet-poor, pitiful engineering design. I currently have plastic sheeting on theses attractive but horribly expensive windows. The patio door leaks along the edge where the doors slide in the middle-added v-strip weather stripping and that helps some- DO NOT BUY ANDERSEN A-1 series until they improve the weather stripping/and or design!!!

Thank you for your feedback. Condensation can form on interior glass surfaces when there is too much moisture in the air. If the interior of a structure exceeds certain limits of moisture in the air, the moisture will condense and show up on comparatively cooler surfaces, such as glass. Interior condensation does not indicate a failure of the glass on your Andersen® window and/or patio door unit. When the warm, room temperature air comes in contact with the glass surface, the air is cooled and, if there is enough moisture in the air, the dew point will be reached and the water in the air will condense. Recommended humidity levels in winter months should not exceed 30-35%. If these humidity levels are exceeded, you may want to take measures to reduce the interior humidity level. I will email you additional information on condensation via email. Thank you again for providing the opportunity for us to assist you.

I also have a couple of builder grade windows for the garage and ironically they have held up much better, go figure..

I had Andersen Windows in the rest of the house when I built it, so when I needed patio doors, I went with them again. Their contractor installed the doors and he was slow enough doing it. It took him three days to complete the installation because I had three panels and it was within the timeline provided. But my doors are not perfect right now. They were in and they were perfect. But the weather stripping came out from the door that I open and shut more than once a day. So they have to take it apart and put the rubber or strips that are on the bottom of the door. Other than that, I love Andersen Windows. The doors I got are good quality, easy to open and shut, and within a reasonable price range. The doors also matched the other doors that I had on the house. So, I was pleased with them.

I got a combination of sliders and crank outs newly installed. We got the white vinyl to match the vinyl siding. The quality seems to be fine. The crank out handles upstairs has a latch mechanism, and that plastic piece slides up or off, and it could be attached better, but I’m a little hesitant to glue it on. And then, on the slider window where it slides sideways, the latch there seems to be a little iffy. But overall, I’m happy with them.

We built a home in 2002 and had all Andersen windows installed. It has been rented out and the renter mentioned that one of the sashes completely fell apart when he went to open the window. After contacting Andersen several times, the last person I spoke with told me this was not covered under the 20 year warranty, but would have been under the 10 year warranty. After repeatedly talking with prior customer service representatives from Andersen, no one had mentioned this would not be covered. In fact, they assured me it was when I asked them specifically about the sash.

So instead, they had me go out to the home, take several pictures, measurements, and email all to them. They then spoke with the tenant and gave him the number to their local service provider for the warranty work, but when I called them they had not received anything from Andersen. I then called Andersen again, and they finally informed me the the prior reps I had spoken with were new and misinformed me about the warranty and none of it is covered. Instead, it will be $260.64.

This isn't the only problem I have with these windows. The tenants mentioned that they have been leaking air/rain for several years. When looking at the windows, most of them have gaps on the right side where you can see light through. Also, when you pull up the windows, the side strings that help with the weight are all loose and are defective as well. I say this to warn others to look at a different brand because for one, windows should last longer than 17 years and they should really train their representatives to give accurate information to minimize the frustration we already have with Andersen. I will never buy from Andersen again and will warn others to do the same. Bad products and poor customer service.

Our written limited warranty states coverage is 10 years for non glass and 20 years for glass failures due to manufacture defects. This would fall under the non glass portion of the warranty. My folks bought 21 Andersen Windows when they built their house in '65. Three years later the company stopped making that window. Because of that the supply of repair parts dried up long ago. I just inherited the house after my mother's passing, and have sunk many $thousands into repair. And all of a sudden, right before winter hits, the storm windows have decided to "give up the ghost". The corner keys, and latches made from cheap pot metal, an crimped into place have gotten brittle and break, the frame comes apart and the glass window pane falls and breaks. Since no repair shops can get new keys and latches, the windows can't be repaired. Which leaves the windows open to snow and rain. I just paid $26K to paint and roof the house, and even if I had the money to put in replacement windows, I wouldn't want to destroy the siding doing so, two weeks before projected snow.

My folks made a huge investment in these windows. I think they, and their offspring have a reasonable expectation that they remain repairable for a long time - as long as Andersen is in business. 55 years is NOT such a long time when you are talking about a house. I know people with 100 and 200 year old homes who still maintain the original windows.

Andersen should at least make available a storm window that will fit and operate, even if it doesn't look identical. They still make available the balancers and jamb liners, albeit at a steeply marked up price. I asked them if they could at least get me drawings of the corner keys and latches, and they said no. You have to ask if it is progress when we go from windows that any carpenter can fix, balanced by simple weights, to a system that has a built in end of life. Andersen Windows do NOT survive the test of time. Don't expect that the home you put your heart and soul into to be around in the same form 100 or even 60 years later. It's sad really.

Being a remodeling contractor for 40 yrs, I've installed most every brand of slider available, including Andersen. Most recently I did an install for a customer who purchased a 6' vinyl clad slider, series 200 I believe, it's a KD (knock Down) unit. It went together nicely as it should, installed nicely as it should, no noticeable defects. When it came to operation after completed installation, that was a whole different story, it opened and closed harder than the cheapest slider I've ever installed.

After troubleshooting the situation, Our conclusion was the top and vertical weather seal are just too darn tight, which creates drag on the operating panel BAD DESIGN! Now there is no way to adjust those components, they are what they are. My only suggestion to my customer was, go back to the supplier you bought it from, get them to get in touch with an ANDERSEN rep and see if they'll come out and look at it. I would never recommend an Andersen slider to anyone, they used to be good yrs ago. my best guess is, they cheapened up their brand to keep pace with all the crap they sell at those big box stores.

We quoted Marvin and we quoted Pella, and we ended up getting Andersen from a lumber yard and then having our own contractor come and put them in. We got 22 windows and it was the best deal for us. It took about eight weeks for all the windows and then the installation was about two weeks, but it was delayed because of rain. Still, we love the windows. We also had a manufacturer defect in one of our windows and Andersen came out and fixed it pretty quickly, and they did a nice job. They came out within a couple of days of the time that we had the problem. They had to order some parts, and then they came and fixed it when the parts came in a week later.

My only one concern is that when we open them, if we’re not paying attention or if we don’t realize it, they go all the way up to the top and they can hit the top. The first time I went to open a window, I opened it and I pushed it all the way up, and then the lock hit the top and it made a dent in the wood. Maybe there should be some kind of stopper from Andersen so that people don’t damage their own windows by opening them.

If my windows are allowing dirt to fly into my home when shot and locked and my sliding glass door track is filling with water on the inside I see that as a problem. This weep hole thing they have on sliding glass doors now is just a way to make a cheap product that leaks water into your home. Not that the doors themselves are cheap because they're not. They're ridiculously expensive. Do not allow Andersen representatives to tell you that it is normal for these doors to be leaking water into the track during normal rain.

The weep holes are placed there as a prevention in case of severe Monsoon type weather. Not a nice light afternoon rain. And every time it rains and fills my track it brings in dirt and spiders can get in through the weep holes. It's a junk product and should not be on the market. If it leaks water it will leak air. I have spoken to an attorney and plan to sue for 30% of my electric bill for the past year and they can pay my attorney fee and you can come and get their doors and give me a full refund so that I can put a good quality door and window in my home. Don't let these people fool you! And if this has happened to you I suggest you use every Avenue available to get this out to other consumers.

I carefully scheduled the replacement based on the availability of my contractor and security issues related to the door openings being unprotected for several days. On the appointed day, the contractor found that Andersen failed to ship nailing fins -- a critical part of the installation -- with the doors. Andersen had no record of whether they were shipped with the original order or not -- this speaks poorly of Andersen's quality control. On the second go, my contractor had an installation question. He was amazed -- astounded -- that Andersen provided no printed installation instructions. Apparently, the only option is to go on-line. Trying to read the instructions on a phone is ridiculous.

We were “bait and switched” when buying our Andersen 400 series windows from Home Depot. In Home Depot’s store display, the Andersen 400 Series windows has real wood (Pine) frames and wood window grills. We received Vinyl frames and fibrex grills when our windows were delivered. Not only did we not get what we ordered (fibrex grills and vinyl frames), but the quality of the windows is subpar (The nail holes were not covered and there is glue and wood filler smudged over the window/wood). Even our carpenter said, “these windows shouldn’t come like this.”

On top of that, a window came damaged and ever since the delivery nothing has been done on our end even though we have been extremely patient and flexible throughout this whole process. We have done a lot on our end to try and communicate with store management. A lot of our time has been put into this now. We feel like we were sold something that isn’t the same as what is in the store and this is not ethical. We visited another Home Depot and the department lead said if your order says “wood interior” and “wood grills”, you should be getting wood. That is exactly what he tells the customers at his store that order these exact windows. We also went to another distributor/installation company of Andersen Windows and they said the same exact something.

We went over our budget in order to get the higher quality Andersen 400 series windows. Our project has been completely thrown off our timeline with contractors not being able to complete their work during this period and again, we are extremely disappointed and underwhelmed. We feel like we have been extremely patient throughout this process and we are very disappointed with the way that this has been handled and Home Depot has only offered to take off $500 for windows that we paid over $10k for, not acceptable.

It’s been over a month now and they won’t return phone calls/emails from us. The store manager said he would be on top of this and is trying to figure out a solution with HQ in Atlanta. That was 3 weeks ago, no communication from him since. We would of ordered the 200 level windows if we knew this and paid half the price. See photos of our order stating Pine instead of Fibrex or Vinyl.

We had a new house, and we had a different brand before that we really liked and almost went with them. But we decided Andersen because that particular window we chose was a bit less expensive. And then we didn't get it. The guy talked us into the more expensive one that are premade to fit. The quality is great. But I’m a little disappointed in the noise. In the house that we had before we used a different window, which almost cut all the noise out.

And there’s one window I’m not happy with. It doesn't go up and down. If you get it up, you can’t hardly get it down, and the top part of it slides down. I think it’s a double-hung. If you get it down to clean it, you can’t get it back up. I had to call the contractor once to come shove it back, and I got it up about right before they drove up. I had them out here twice. And this last year, it got stuck.

We also have quarter-shaped moon windows, and they couldn't put the windows in because they said it was the wrong circumference, like the circle didn't match. And it’s like they didn't know this prior. So, they said, “Well, don’t worry, we can get them.” But it was gonna be the ones you have to have special-made for it, the wooden window, is the only ones that would do it. And those were gonna cost us $1200 a piece, just for two windows. So, that would be $2800. And it’s like, “We can’t afford that.”

This new line that Andersen started making, the cheaper ones, are still good windows. They told us to call back in a year or two because they're gonna start doing special custom make for the size of that. They sent those back. It has been 3 years. We waited. And last year, a year and a half ago, we had them come out and they said, “No, you can’t because we don't make them custom. We only make them in different sizes, but specific.” And they didn't have our circumference. So, we’re still with our cheap window. It kinda ruins the reason we got the Andersen windows, which is to help on energy. We saw some difference when we first got the windows. But we still get cold air coming in from the old, cheap windows that were originally in the house, and we can’t afford $3000 for two little windows. We should've gone with a different brand. I’m happy with the windows. I’m just not happy with that because now, we are stuck.

We did one of the architectural sliding doors and then we did a new French door patio. The contractor was there when they said they were gonna be there. The quality of the doors are great and the cost is fair compared to the rest of the market.

We purchased six double-hung windows from Andersen and we explored different options. What we liked about it was that it could be more customised. So, like our neighbors have windows and they have white, and it looks horrible. But Andersen said they would match the paint and all that sort of thing, so that was a real plus. It was worth the money for that level of quality and service. We’re very happy with them. I would recommend them to anyone who’s considering a window replacement.

Other than that, the contractor they sent out was amazing and they did a super job. They were in and out. They were easy to deal with, so I didn't have any problems at all.

The summer/fall of 2012 we did an addition to our home and put all new Andersen windows in. There was a window in the 2nd story on the east side of the house that would not lock correctly. We contacted the contractor a couple of times and even asked for them to request an Andersen Rep come at look at it, but nothing happened. The window continued to let air and would not close, then over this past winter a window in the first floor also on the east side began to let air in. I began the FRUSTRATING ordeal to try to get to a resolution for both. I first called American Replacement division. Talk to a young man that was very helpful and gave me the correct number to get this resolved through the warranty. He even call a week later to see if things were moving along. He was the only person I felt that respected the customer. I only wish I wrote down his name.

After calling the warranty number I also talked to a young man that only wanted to order parts and mail them to me. And as a consumer with no knowledge of windows all I wanted was to have someone to look at them and and determine what was wrong before having parts mailed and then what??? In my mind this is not what a warranty means. After going back and forth with him he finally gave me 3 names of distributors in my area, one of which was where I purchased the windows. I called them and they indicated that unfortunately the warranty process had changed and they really don't send out people anymore. But he was able to give me a rep's name that has been in the business for 25 years and maybe he could help. Talked to him and I was able to send pictures of the windows and the sticker at the top of the upper sash. (And now the upper sash will not stay up.)

He tried to help and passed the information on, he too did not get anywhere with the information he passed on. After texting back and forth he said the rep he passed everything on to would have to make the decision. I asked him for a name to call and he finally just gave me the number of the Andersen Warranty which I called at the beginning of the run around. I would have thought with all the people I talked to someone would have helped. Thus my reason of calling this a Run Around and Non-existing Warranty. If I could have rate lower than a 1 star I would have. We also plan to build within the next 18 months and the contractor recommended Andersen windows and I really do not want to go down that road.

In 2016 I purchased a replacement for my Andersen French door. The door was sent to my house by mistake rather than the installer Andersen recommended. Fortunately I found out and stayed home to make sure the door wasn't left outside when it was delivered. When the installer arrived, he found the hinges were in the wrong place so he ordered another door. Fortunately my old door could be put back on until a new door could be delivered. In 2019 I wanted to replace my current Andersen Glider. This time I went through the Andersen recommended installer. AFTER my current door was removed the installer realized Andersen put the WRONG door in the box. They installed the wrong door since the door they removed could not be put back in while they tried to find my door.

I waited three weeks with a door that wasn't functional for various reasons, the siding by my door in my garage and my blinds and door trim in a spare room before they found and delivered my door. This door had a flaw so they installed it and ordered me a new replacement panel. I'm still waiting for it to be installed. The entire situation was handled poorly by Andersen and their installer. Any company that can have so many screw ups with one person in three years is not one I believe cares about quality or customer service. I would rate them lower than one star but that wasn't an available option.

I have replaced 19 of my windows with Andersen 400 series and up to now have had a good experience with the window quality and one warranty repair. Now I have seen my Andersen single hinge French door become delaminated. The vinyl is peeling off the door and is unsightly and the issue seems to be expanding. The door is on a raised porch and also protected with an overhang, so it is a bit protected from the elements. The companion door is in perfect condition.

The estimator from a local company who is installing another batch of 400 series windows mentioned that Andersen had a manufacturing problem that lead to delamination issues with these doors some time ago and that they expanded their warranty support. I called Andersen's support line (888-888-7020) twice, received a file # and was informed they did have a quality issue previously, but that I was out of warranty and did I want to order another door?

I mentioned that I have spent over $50,000 over several years on 400 series windows alone and was looking for some level of warranty or consideration here. No dice, the first person promised to check it out and call me back (never received a call back) and the second time I was told I had the wrong door code, which I provided the first time. Really frustrated at this point, I expected better from Andersen.

In 2007 I ordered more than 2 dozen Andersen windows for a major upgrade and remodel of my home. Nearly all windows were replaced. The new windows included casement, glider, and double-hung windows. The casement windows have performed adequately, though one was shipped without the screens. Of five gliders, one of them has a small leak that has caused black staining where the two panels meet in the center. (see picture) Of the three sets of double hung windows, the two exposed to the weather have leaked badly since day one. (The third one does not leak, implying a manufacturing problem on the other windows and not an install problem.)

When the remodel was nearly complete in 2010, we contacted Andersen who sent a rep to inspect. (see pic labeled 2010) The Andersen rep inspected the double hungs for a few seconds and initially said they were installed incorrectly. However, my contractor, who has decades of experience patiently explained (and showed) how the windows were installed to code and the Andersen rep then said the install was fine but that me, the homeowner caused the leaking because I needed to leave the screens on year-around to keep wind-driven rain out. That sounded absurd but we did that. He also ordered small shims for the hardware so the windows latched more tightly. We installed the shims and there was no change. The windows leak and if the rain is moderate they leak a lot. Leaking illustrated on other pictures.

I gave up on Andersen given the goofiness of their rep until this year. I was working with a new window supplier who used to work for Andersen who said to contact them again which I did. I filed the appropriate paperwork, I was polite on the phone even after 20 minute wait times. They promised a response in 24 hours, but it was more than 15 working days later that they called and announced that the double hungs were improperly ganged together 'on site' and gave us some names of authorized repair people to fix them at my expense. There was no evidence for blaming the ganging. And nothing was ganged on site. Inspection by me and my original contractor during rain events finds water entering from the window side into the space in between windows where it is simply more visible and spills out more easily.

On the phone, Andersen's call center staff told me that it did not matter that I had contacted them in 2010, the windows were 12 years old and now past their warranty. The windows still leak, what had been lovely wood is now horribly stained. Andersen is dodging their responsibility. I live in central California; we do not get much rain here and yet the windows are ruined. I cannot recommend the windows or the company. I urge readers of this review to avoid this company. It is no real surprise. I contacted a couple of window installers, one independent "C&W" and the other Home Depot. C&W estimate was $14.5K and they would stain the wood to look like oak, Home depot was $12.5K (with less options because she was trying to reduce the cost of the window). Mind you I can buy the windows at Home Depot for around $4K. So you ask where does the extra $8K to $10K do for you. Well it includes the install and the same warranty that already comes with the windows. I was stupid enough to put money down on the C$W one, but came to my senses and canceled it. The company acted like I had just robbed them when I canceled the order. They tried to intimidate me with the warranty and I said well I can break all of the windows twice and still be ahead. So it seems that they price the install by multiplying the window cost by 3X.

The Home Depot sales person said that they were just pricing windows like the competitors. I think it is legalized thievery. So if I go to buy tires at the tire store, no matter if I buy a tire for $20 or $250 the mounting cost the same. Well, I bought the windows from home depot and now they had a sale on them for 15% off and $100 off for opening up a charge card. I have a contractor friend and we will install them. I ran into another contractor and he said he would install them for $500 each. I think Andersen has lost sight of the business and are losing business. With TRUMP'S tax break you think that everyone would not try to rip people off and retire on every job. OH, C$W said the MSRP on the windows was $18K. I can get a car for that.

What they did as approximately 75% of my Low E windows failed is that they replaced them with inferior performance windows. The replacement windows do not have Argon gas between the layers of glass and the layers of glass are only 3/8” apart so their thermal performance is horrible. My home is no longer comfortable on hot and cold days. Andersen will not compensate me so that I can purchase replacement windows that will perform like my original windows did. Original Review: July 25, 2019

I purchased 9 windows (over $5K worth) through Home Depot in Brownwood Texas June 6, 2019. They were delivered 5 July 2019. We were finishing the last window when the installer found a defect in one single hung window. The top rail of the bottom sash was not welded properly. I notified Home Depot and was told a new window would be sent but would not arrive till July 24th. That meant I would lose my installation crew. I asked if they would expedite it. The HD contact person said she would ask and call me back. She has never returned a call. I have made over 25 calls to Home Depot trying to get this replacement done. This last Monday I called again to verify the window would be here on the 24th. Had to leave voicemail. I finally got a supervisor to get the person on the phone. She said she was still trying to Andersen to confirm ship date and would call me back.

This morning again after getting supervisor I finally was able to talk to Brandy at HD who said again she was waiting for answer from Andersen. The real surprise was her telling me on Monday that I am not getting a new window but only the replace defective part. If anyone had bothered to tell me that I could have had the window installed instead on a gaping huge plastic covered hole in the wall since June. You try that in Texas summer heat. I am so frustrated. The people at Home Depot are pleasant but no one is getting me the replacement part. What is a so bloody difficult about making this right? Everyone wanted to sell me new windows, all I ask is that they all be good ones. I don't know who to turn to for help. All I want is to have good window to install.

I come from a house I installed Serious Windows which was bought out by Alpen windows and there is simply no comparison. Flipping in an Andersen by pushing in the plastic track and forcing the window out is just a poor cheap design. Other windows, just release the 2 finger tabs and it flips right in. The Andersen glass is far thinner so how well can it be insulating? Even the wood floors are faded so is the glass really low E glass as printed on the window? Granted we had the Andersen windows (3 big bay windows plus many casement windows with a hand crank) for many years (about 25) but then many of the hand cranks gave out, the arms that support the window when cranking the window open or closed broke, some of the seals on windows that had never been broken or replaced for any reason gave out (leaving the window looking "foggy" and hard to see out). We even purchased their custom made "mini blinds" that fit each window.

We figured, well we got 25 years out of them. Let's call Andersen and see if they'll do anything or what replacement parts cost. Well to our surprise, after spending so much money and taking out a loan to replace every single window in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath house with a formal dining room with big bay windows, we were shocked to find that Andersen doesn't even carry or offer parts! They have discontinued all parts for windows before 1999! So we are left to try to find parts from other manufacturers that fit, which is not as easy as it sounds. Why would Andersen discontinue making parts for windows 20 years and older if they're telling you they'll last a lifetime? Were really concerned with their customer's needs?

To say I'm outraged at Andersen is an understatement! To add insult to injury, trying different manufacturer parts to see what fits is very frustrating. Seeing Andersen's advertisements on television prompted me to write this review because just the way we were 'abandoned', the same will happen to you once they've gotten your money and figure they won't hear from you for at least 10 to 20 years, unless the windows are worse than what we were sold. So beware and get everything in writing. I will never make another purchase from Andersen and will not recommend this company to anyone!

There were two windows that were scratched and there was a bubble in one that was never seen before. I asked for them to be replaced, and the one with a bubble was replaced but not the other one. The windows ended up leaking too, then after that, there was communication between the contractor who did our windows and another contractor who usually works on our association, so things did not turn out well. All in all, the windows, other than the scratched ones, are fine. Also, the outside lock on one of the doors was flimsy, but it's the beach, so I didn't expect that much more.

I have always heard really good things about Andersen Windows from other people. We got the 100 series windows and we had our siding done at the same time. I called the contractor and left a message and he returned my call in 15 minutes. He came out to the house that day, an hour later, and looked at everything. I told him what I wanted to be done. And in Sioux Falls, it's extremely hard to find a contractor. It took me three or four.

I got one to come out but he never called me back. So then, I found this guy, and he's just on his own, but he's a certified Andersen window guy, and he told me he was really busy. This was in July and he said it probably won't be ‘till September before he could get to it, and that was fine. I just wanted it done before winter. And he came. He came a little early, he got his stuff turned off ‘cause he was in between a job where he couldn’t do any more on that other job for a little bit. And then, when he finally came where he spent the whole time, it was about a two-week process, but he kept me informed all the way if he was gonna be late or if something was coming up. I was extremely satisfied. A friend of mine was doing a house remodel and I told her about my experience with Andersen Windows and she went to get those, too.

A small spring in my door broke. Apparently, Andersen doesn't sell just the spring. Instead, you need to buy a $250 part to fix just the spring. We ended up buying another $200 part that we didn't end up needing. Andersen charges a 20% restocking fee plus I have to pay for return shipping. At the end of the day, I have now paid $300 for a broken spring. I will never install this company's products again on my house.

I regretfully have to give a negative review and suggest buying a different brand door. I have 2 Andersen french wood sliders and they are 11 years old and 1 year out of warranty. The doors have completely come apart. The outside veneer has pulled away and caused the doors to swell and become inoperable on one door which is the only escape outside if there was a fire. The warranty department took no responsibility for the poor craftsmanship of the doors even the caulk has mold and the warranty specialist said it looked as if they could of been repaired once before which means the craftsmanship is horrible. Between the product and their stance behind their product I would purchase from a better quality company.

Thank you for providing feedback. I see you first contacted our service department this month, July 2019, and the product was purchase in 2008. Your file, 12397860, shows we set up a quote for the replacement panels and included a discount even though they are out of warranty. It is unfortunate that this was reported after the warranty expired. Please contact service if you'd like to move forward with the replacement panels, 855-337-8825. Thank you.

After Andersen Windows was recommended by someone in our neighborhood, we got the rollout casement and the contractor did all the work in one day. They were professional and even though they left a little bit of a mess, primarily, they cleaned up after themselves. The windows work too. We haven't had a bit of rain, snow or anything come in and we can see through them. When they were in bad shape, we needed to have them replaced and someone came in, replaced them, and they're good.

I love the windows I got from Andersen. This is my third experience with them and I wouldn’t buy anything else. I looked at cost, longevity and quality. You think you’re gonna get a quality product for less money and that’s not a fact. Andersen Windows are more expensive than others but they’re better made and they last longer. My two old home replacements were 30 plus years starting from almost the original Perma-Shield in ’79 and those lasted for 32 years. It was impressive. Then my house that I replaced them in was ’85 original and I just replaced them in 2018. So, that tells me that they’re good windows. For my most recent purchase, I got casement windows series 400 and they went in a new house because it’s a new build. They are fabulous windows.

For the installation, I’ve worked with Superior Remodeling for seven years now and they’ve done everything for me in all my replacements, so I’d recommend them as well. The installation process was very easy. I called up Doug, who is the owner of Superior Remodeling, and said I needed windows. Then he came out and measured about four weeks before the install, and it took about two weeks to go through the order and make sure it was everything we wanted. After that, they ordered the windows up and two weeks later we were putting them in.

Shame on me for not acting sooner!! 12 years ago we renovated our home and installed 20 Andersen 400 series double hung tilt windows. Trying to tilt and clean was and continues to be an enormous challenge. To clean the bottom panel, you must pull down 2 clips (one from each side), snap them in place and pull...not easy, but doable. To pull down the upper panel, you must leave the bottom panel open, return the clips to their respective corners, then pull down the window, DEPRESS THE VINYL SASH AND PULL EACH CORNER OUT. One would have to be a combination of Houdini and Hercules to accomplish this task. Trying to depress the vinyl sash is like trying to depress a block of concrete, and I'm not kidding... I initially, made a few calls to Anderson and the rep tried to walk my husband and I through. It was so exasperating, we finally gave up and washed from outside and the upstairs upper panels have never been washed.

Fast forward 12 years, now we are 12 years older and much less able to accomplish tasks that would have not been a challenge in earlier years. So, once again, we tried to tilt and wash. Again, the bottom panels were a challenge, but manageable...and once again the upper panels were impossible. Called Andersen, you guessed it, 12 years, out of warranty...but the rep. GRACIOUSLY sent a video of how to tilt top window down. He refused to understand that we knew how to do it, it is just impossible to do, based on the design issue.

I asked for an Andersen rep to come to house and perhaps offer some suggestions. The rep offered to send a list of Andersen contractors, but when I inquired about financial responsibility, of course, that would be on us. Again, not a design issue and of course, out of warranty. At this point I'm so exasperated, we are seniors now and can ill afford to replace these windows which we paid a fortune for initially. Sorry, we didn't consider Pella or Marvin or any other window manufacturer who are customer friendly and stand behind their product. NEVER AGAIN ANDERSEN!!!

We will email you information on suggestions for tilting to clean. It sounds as though you have the basic principal down. The sash need to be snug in the frame in order for them to be air and water tight. Please call service if you'd like to discuss further. Thank you.

A friend of mine had Andersen Windows and I thought they looked pretty in his house. I also had mine installed about three or four years ago. The installers put them in and they caulked around the windows. Then I had somebody come and paint some of the work the installers had done. Some of the screens didn't fit exactly perfect. The installers came out and tried to work on them but I wasn't completely satisfied. My wife was unhappy. But they were better than what they were before.

I love Andersen Windows. I wouldn’t trade them in for a million dollars. I went with Andersen due to the recommendations and also, the staff and the knowledge of the people who work at the place where I go. We’ve been in this house for 20 years, and we decided it was time to get rid of the old windows, and we replaced the windows in the whole house. Our windows' appearance is certainly a plus.

Reputation was huge and we were looking for a contractor. We replaced a lot of windows in our home a couple of years ago with Andersen Windows and the contractor happened to recommend Andersen as well. We went with the 400 Series, and I liked the construct of that and the ability to adapt and modify the windows so that they’re gonna integrate well into our home and not look real different than the crappy one does with that.

It was very pricey but I was told there was financing available and we didn’t do it. But I’ve reached out to the Andersen rep since that time, in two different occasions, because there are other windows in our home we’d like to replace. I don’t want to necessarily go with a different window, but the cost is a little bit prohibitive for me to continue thinking about replacing windows. So I don’t know if there’d be loyalty pricing for prior customers or something like that. But that might make it easier to do additional work.

The installation was a really smooth process. I have a high degree of confidence. The contractor explained the certification process and the training that he received with Andersen. The contractor has great personality, which is one of my evaluation criteria for selecting him as well. All in all, it was really a good process. The contractor cleaned up after himself. My blinds fit a little bit differently after the fact. He took it upon himself to make sure that we could figure out how to fix that. So everything worked well.

We could sit in front of the window with the window open and be comfortable in the winter. We didn’t have these drafts. I attribute that jointly probably to not just the window, but the quality of installation because I know that that can affect it as well. So they did very good.

We got windows and doors from Andersen. It took three days for the contractors to put the replacement windows in. It went smoothly, with no problems. The contractor was very helpful. He came out and measured and helped me with the color and a suggestion for one window with this type versus that type. We’re very happy with the windows. You get what you pay for. So absolutely use them.
