8 years ago Andersen replaced 6 double french door because of de-lamination of the vinyl on the exterior. The replacement door hardware is now rusting and the spindles are rusted out and the door handles are falling off the doors. I contacted Andersen customer service and they said they would not be responsible. I spent over $100,000 on windows and doors and they would not be responsible.

    (2) windows I'm having issues with, they are 20 years old so wasn't sure about the warranty. A call that should have taken 5 min. The first girl was great asking lots of questions, had me measuring, looked at my photos, showed some real concern and interest that took about 35 min then transferred me to warranty dept. She took another 10 or more min. to tell me one window was out of warranty and the other, showing condensation between the glass, that had been worked on once before by Anderson for the exact same problem. Now they'd like another photo. I asked how that would help determine the warranty, it just would the suns shining in the photo.

The other window is an Angle Bay (no cheap window) - has cracks in the outer casing that I suspect is causing some warping and maybe water damage. Then she wanted to know if I wanted the service number, I said "I guess if that's my only option." She then replied "Oh the nearest one is 96 miles away. Do you still want the number?" "Well that is my option right?" At this point after wasting 45 or more min of my time I had had it, told them to forget it. Your lifetime warranty stinks. My complaints are ones you should be concerned with. And my business, but I guess I'm just a number, and my money will go elsewhere!

I purchased two 300 Series EMCO storm doors for my screen porch in about 2005. These doors came with a good warranty. Over the past 10 years I have had to replace both these doors 3 times at the same time. They have a cheap wood core that gets wet, expands and destroys the cheap metal panels the doors are made of. It begins to crack and fall away. This time I asked for a full refund of the doors and they absolutely refused. Finally, they agreed to give me an upgrade at no additional cost to a vinyl door with no wood filler core. I needed a letter to take to Home Depot to order the doors. This was promised but not emailed to me for about 3 weeks. Today, I threatened legal action and I got the letter in a couple of hours with no apology. I recommend that you do NOT BUY from this company. It is junk.

I ordered a series 4000 Fullview Storm Door and hired a very experienced contractor to install it. It took a couple of hours to get the door lined up as per the instructions. When we tried to install the handle, the instructions were not complete and we spend another hour and called customer service. I had a CS rep that could speak little English and wanted to know the serial number of the door which I gave to her. She said that I had an almond color series 4000 door. I told her the door was white and not almond and she wanted to argue about that -- the Andersen label on the carton it was packed in said it was white -- which it was. We finally got the handle in after discovering that they had nothing in the instruction about removing a "switch" and replacing it. Then the Lock Case Trim Plate will not fit anything on the lock assembly. He reply was "just throw it away" and use the door without it.

I finally got her to connect me with a supervisor who was clueless about the products. Either we lost connection or he hung up on me. Called back and got another supervisor, finally, and went through the whole problem again. She was not very familiar with the product and said that they would ship me another plate. I am supposed to hear back from her tomorrow as I am invoicing Andersen for the $150 that I paid for the contractor to try to get the lock on with incorrect instructions and with a clueless customer service person at Andersen. Andersen says at the top of their instructions, "If your abilities do not match the requirements of this installation, contact an experienced contractor". I did and the lock and customer service do not have abilities to be CS reps for anything. NEVER AGAIN ANDERSEN!!!

1996 I built a house and put all Andersen doors and windows in it. We started having problems in early 1987 with our big picture window leaking when it rained. We called to find a Andersen rep to fix the problem. He came out 4 times in 1987, finally told us there was nothing he could do. Not knowing what to do I called my contractor and he came out and caulked the heck out of it. It was about a 95% improvement we thought.

We are remodeling our house now and moved the window west 12 feet in new wall. This is when we find out through our contractor that the window frame is cracked and the wood is rotted. Contractor said it's been this way for a long time. I called Andersen Windows warranty and they kept telling me it's out of warranty as I kept saying "I know it is but your man wouldn't do nothing about it back in 1987," and asked if there was anything they could help with on the new window. I'd have to but now that we can see the old damage. All I kept hearing from senior adviser ** was it's out of warranty. I finally give up. I just bought 3 new Andersen windows for the remodel... Big mistake. I will never buy another Andersen window again... I think I will go with Pella...

I ordered seven Andersen windows along with the screens to match. When the windows arrived, I picked them up at Home Depot in Oneonta, NY. When I got home with the windows, I discovered that the improper screens #3042 were put in a #3032 Box. I called Home Depot immediately and was required by Andersen Windows that I had to take pictures and send them to Dawn at Home Depot before Andersen Windows would replace the wrong screens with the proper #3032 screens. I have since been told that Andersen will not UPS the screens to me directly, even though this is your error, not mine! Home Depot tells me I won't see these screens until July 6th at the earliest. This is the summer and I can't open my windows for three more weeks, WHY? If this is the way you treat your customers when it's your error, I will make sure everyone I know how you do business. I'm done with Andersen Windows.

In 1992, we built a dream home with much sacrifice. We chose Andersen windows because of the outstanding lifetime warranty and the customization options we needed. In particular, we were interested in a passive solar structure and intrigued by the e-glass that provided passive solar gain in winter and reflective UV and sunlight in the summer. By the year 2000, condensation ovals began to appear on the inside window surface of one of the custom trapezoids and on a stationary window in another room.

Within a few years, more condensation circles and ovals appeared as did a fun house collapse of both window panes on the other windows. We called Andersen for repair - which was a band aid approach to drilling into the ousted window, releasing the collapse, and dealing with silicon. The next year was 2013 - the end of the limited lifetime warranty that we had. Our windows were never fixed!!!!!! One thing I can say is that none of the windows leak, and when the repair man cracked the outside of the double pane - as he drilled into it it was replaced and it does not show the defective issues. I believe that Andersen needs to replace the outer panes on all these windows in order to make this right.

400 series woodwright windows - Mechanism that holds windows up does not function properly. After tilting the windows down to clean them, the cord slips off of the pulley thus the top windows will not stay up and the windows are hard to move. Even the installer had a great difficulty in his attempt to get the cord back on the pulley and we cannot get it back on. Hopefully it will go back into place by itself or we will have to prop the windows up with a piece of wood because we cannot open the bottom window without the top dropping down.

Next day called Andersen again, after being on hold again for 20 minutes. This person said there are no pictures and send them to a certain email, exact same one. Then I was told they will send out new stripping, but I will have to get another contractor to install it. Have to cut top panel, take doors out, screw in new pic. But it has no screw hole in it and no instructions how to do it. A tube of super glue worked just fine for repair no thanks to Andersen Corp. customer service, they do not exist any more to me.

I had bought 15 Andersen 200 series windows and one of the vertical rails was bowed right out of the box. My Dealer called Andersen and he was told that we had to stain and seal it and let it set for 6-8 weeks and it would straighten itself out and if it didn't they would send someone out to replace the bowed stationary sash. Well 2 months went by and of course it did not straighten out. We now got told that they would only send out a new sash and we had to replace, re-stain and seal it and they would not reimburse us for our time fixing their defective product.

I would not recommend Andersen to anyone as they do not stand behind their products which after I received them I was not really impressed with the workmanship on them at all. As they had caulk all over the woodwork and some of the windows were caulked shut where you had to carefully get them to actually operate.

She also seemed to have a difficult time understanding me when I stated the problem exactly as I stated it above. Coincidentally (?) the call was disconnected at that point. Thus, the second call which I was on hold for 13 minutes! This time I made note of the reps name, **. I also asked her to take my phone number down so that in the event we were disconnected she could call me back. She took down my number but stated that they were very busy and she might not be able to call me back since there were other callers waiting (seriously!). The small trim plastic piece sealing each door has cracked and broken out on most of these 4' X 6' windows. None of the Andersen window dealers or repair men are interested coming to my house to do repairs if I do not buy at least 3 new windows. After your money is paid, you are on your own for any further use. These windows were over $25,000.00 new from Andersen dealer. Now, forget it - either spend thousands more, to install new windows, or have a local handyman who has no experience with Andersen windows and knows nothing about these small plastic strips try to fix. Andersen will not even stock these replacement strips for anyone to replace, or let you order them.

Nothing hit it or there was no one else around. My question is this: I have an extra 6 x 5 1/2 casement window down the basement (which I have saved) because it was taken out and I had a deck installed outside with Anderson Sliding glass doors. Is it possible for someone to come & remove the damaged one and replace it with the one I saved down the basement?? I heard an ad for Anderson Windows on the radio - we are looking for windows on our screened in back porch. In fact, a representative from Lowe's is coming by later today. I answered all of the questions: name, address, phone, project specifications. When I said I currently have a screened-in back porch, the representative began to inquire about construction. The room has plywood interior wall and hardy plank exterior, except for the screen windows. 11 Windows 37" x 51".

The representative explained these windows are very heavy and require drywall on the inside to keep the windows from collapsing the screens. I explained we had plywood walls instead. She again said plywood will not work due to window weight. I said, "I'm sorry, I must not be communicating clearly" thinking she didn't understand my explanation. She said "Good Bye" and hung up. I called back to speak with the General Manager. Put on hold. Called back a second time - she said she would have to take a message...and then put me on hold. Wasted Radio Advertising. And then I found these reviews. No need to talk with General Manager now.

I order two Andersen sliding doors to replace older sliding doors that were no longer energy efficient. They look great and were installed in a timely manner but they don't close all the way unless they are locked. There is enough space between the door and the pocket that a piece of cardboard and be slid through. Numerous phone calls to Andersen headquarters and their representatives were very frustrating. They kept insisting that is the way sliders are supposed to close and that I should just lock the door every time I go in or out and it will eventually close naturally.

I was eventually told that Andersen had a problem with this door (the 2000 series) because consumers complained they weren't energy efficient so they beefed up the insulation between the two doors and now they get complaints because they don't close all the way. They offered to come and slice the insulation so it will close all the way but all I wanted was a refund. I finally accepted a 75% refund because these doors will never meet my expectations. I would definitely rethink buying from Andersen in the future... BUYER BEWARE. I can't imagine they ever stand behind their warranty or their statements about 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

I just found out today that the windows in our house are made by Andersen, but distributed by Rusco Windows in Fargo ND. Our home is 10 years old, and we purchased it 6 years ago. We have had NOTHING but problems with our Andersen windows and will be replacing them all this summer. They should NEVER have been installed in a home in northern Minnesota. First of all is the condensation/ice buildup problem that occurs around November and lasts through March. However, the biggest problem is the glass cracking in the middle of the winter and then the replacement glass taking approximately 2 1/2 months to come from Andersen Windows. We are also pretty much forced to use them as our replacement company as the prairie grids are exclusive to their company. I wish I could post pictures as it is quite humorous that a company could get away with selling such a product. Would love any recommendations on replacement windows.

Purchased 16 400 series double hung and 1 slider in 2004 while building a new home - they had a good reputation and I thought a quality product. My father had installed the same series of windows at least 10 to 12 years previous to me and has no problem with his so something changed in the manufacturing process. Most of the upper sashes accumulate water on the glass which runs down, sits on the wood and begins the rotting process (now it's late 2013). A quick Google search resulted in a class action suit filed that Andersen had clear problems with the seal between the upper and lower sash - sure made sense to me, exactly what I was experiencing.

We contacted Andersen, sent them pictures. They are not a friendly group - weren't happy about us asking about or referring to the class action suit that described our problem exactly. They won't cover anything. They told us we have a moisture problem in our home. I did ask if they could me to understand why the moisture problem would only attack the upper sashes, (above the bad seals), but not the lower sashes or for that matter, any of the wood cabinetry, hickory flooring, hardwood trim etc. that the house is loaded with. Wouldn't we have mold growing all over everything if that were the case? If it's quality you’re looking for, keep looking - Andersen doesn't offer it anymore.

I had 13 Andersen 400 series, and 3 awning style windows installed this past fall. I am in Michigan, where yes, it is cold outside. I am spending my winter wiping puddles off the windowsills. Upon calling Andersen, I was given a lecture about a glass of ice tea, how in the hot summer it condensates and this is what is happening to my windows, since it's cold outside. I pointed out that my ice tea glass is not double pane with gas between the panes. They also sent documents and videos to justify the puddles, and stated the puddles mean the windows are airtight and doing their job. Their final response on this issue was to keep my humidity level no higher than 30%. 30%!! Can you say itchy dry skin?!?!

Next issue, the tilt-wash feature is almost inoperable on 6 of the windows due to the stiffness of the sashes, you would have to be a gorilla with 3 arms to satisfactorily tilt open the top portion of the window. Andersen's response to that is that since they do open, albeit difficultly, it is my problem, not theirs. These are the 2 major issues I have, the minor issues are that due to the style of thickness of the window, with the glass pane on the inside area, blinds can NOT be hung inside the window, and after paying $7000 for the windows, I found they did NOT have lift handles, but Andersen offered these could be purchased additionally and installed my me. Just got off the phone with their regional manager, and he said Andersen cannot do anything about any of the issues, these are things I should have thought about when buying the windows.

I purchased Anderson sliding glass doors (2 each) that were series 200 with impact glass. Expensive, but not wanting to have to use storm shutters was the reasoning. When we got the doors on Monday from Home Depot, the Windstorm official that was contacted to come and watch the installation informed me that those doors were not TDI (Texas Department of Insurance) approved. In short, windstorm insurance on the home would be voided and cancelled if the doors were used. I contacted Anderson Window and Doors company numerous times this past week. Some reps on the phone said to return it to the store, there is a 90 day satisfaction full refund return policy. Others said they can't help me, that was my problem. I did bring them back to Home Depot and was refunded just 85% of the total purchase price.

The Anderson reps at (888) 888-7020 were not well trained, and they did not even want to pass me onto their supervisors (only once in about 10 phone calls was I granted my request to talk to a "senior rep"). My advice, DON'T BUY ANDERSON DOORS OR WINDOWS. They don't work well with you once you have a problem, and Home Depot will sell them to you even with knowledge that they are not windstorm compliant, and charge you a 15% restocking fee. Unopened and still sealed in the boxes and I am penalized because Anderson Windows and Doors, along with Home Depot have poor customer service and even a worse desire to sell you something they know can't be used in your county.

I paid my deposit May 1st, windows installed August. The windows are not even - the stain does not match what I wanted. The workers came out unaware of what was agreed on. When I lock one window a space is created - one window you can see outside from on one side. None of the windows fit into the sill. Spray foam was supposed to be use to seal pockets - the installer did not use spray form. Work was agreed to that the employees claimed to have no knowledge of. One worker was to come back the next day - I waited 3 hrs called him and he hung up on me. He did come later but did not do the work, I don't know what he did then he left. I have a rough board with nail holes and little bubbles through it for a sill. I think something changed at Andersen because I have seen reviews from 2012 that were good.

I have this advice for anyone buying anything - 1. Never agree that customer service will be resolved w/in the company only (always leave option open to escalate outside the company 2. Never pay for all the work until it is done. I paid 1/2 they will get no more until these issues are resolved to my satisfaction. I will never buy another renewal by Andersen or Andersen window again.

DEC. 18, 2014 UPDATE: The company rep came out. Told Ryan’s Windows what to do. Ryan’s Windows came back said nothing was wrong with the windows, they are suppose to have gaps and visible weatherstripping from inside. I called the company and the rep then said nothing was wrong with the windows and my expectations are too high. I uploaded pictures. It is a shame you can't see them on here. I have to stuff plastic in the window to keep the cold out the visible weatherstripping in. The air tight window looks very tacky.

I have paid 1/2 but refuse to pay anymore until windows meet my approval. Ryan’s Window and Siding (Rochester MN) keeps threatening to turn me into collection if I don't give them more money. I told them to talk to me via e-mail only cause they keep changing their story on what they will and will not do. I have not heard from them since. But they are going after my credit card company. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH RENEWAL BY ANDERSEN - they will jerk you around indefinitely and blow you off. It has been six months - windows do not fit. Ryan’s cannot fix them and I may be turned over to collection and have to pay for a lawyer to cover the cost of fixing the windows - IF they can be fixed.

I have Andersen casement windows. The opening/closing crank has a 1/2 x 1/2 nylon shoe that allows the crank arm to slide as it opens. Mine broke. It's a penny part. The cost can't be more than 1 cent to manufacture and is so small they could store 10,000 in a shoe box, yet the only way to purchase it is to buy the entire crank unit for $180. A one cent part for $180. The service rep wanted me to feel sorry and understanding for Andersen Windows because of the inconvenience it would be for them to store it. Seriously. I will never willingly do business with Andersen Windows. Doing business with Andersen Windows will make me feel dirty.

I purchased a full view storm door E75 #0015523824. The glass cannot be removed to install the screen. I had 3 handymen, my partner and myself could not remove the glass. When I called Anderson, they told be to use a knife to dismantle the glass. I later found out that the door is discontinued because of this malfunction. Donna ** made an offer to pay me $295.45 out of the $544.45, since they will not replace the door for me. I accepted the offer, they would reimburse me by July 1, 2009. I have called Donna ** 2 times and sent an email, she does not respond. At this time, I feel that they should reimburse me the full $544.45 and include another door that functions. I am appalled that they made the offer and have not honored it. $544.45 and seasonally, I will have to hire a contractor to disassemble the glass or screen that will cost $150.00 per visit.
