I was very pleased that the service tech was able to come out and do the installation the same day that I called. He was knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions. I am happy with what was done.

I had been a customer with ADT for over 5 years. I sold my home in March, 2018 and the new buyer and I called ADT to switch the account over to the new owner on 3/19/18. I was told that as soon as the account was re-activated by the new owner I would be refunded the amount I would pay to finish out the 3 year contract. I was never told that the new owner would have to have the technician come out to re-activate within 30 days in order for me to be refunded. I called today to inquire about my never received refund of $163.86 and was told that I was not entitled to a refund. It seems that once the technician went out to the location the new owner installed a completely upgraded ADT system and since it took longer than 30 days to complete I would not be getting my money back. I attempted to reason with "Lisa", who was unwilling to listen to my points.

The time frame for reactivation/ relocation for reimbursement of charges paid due to cancellation of the contract while in agreement for services are 24 months. I am reviewing ADT because our experience has been so disappointing and taken so much trouble to try to resolve. It remains unresolved. We began a contract 12/13/2014 with the company. We wanted to cancel the contract before the completion date (we thought we would at least inquire). As expected, ADT did not cancel early. We verified our request would need to be in writing 30 days before the expiration of the contract. We did this.
Then the bills, harassing phone calls and threats of damage to our credit rating began. ADT denies ever receiving our cancellation request. We were told we needed our PIN# to cancel (which we told them we can't find since we don't use the alarm). They agreed to send a new pin (which took 2 more months) and the bills continued to accrue (no surprise at this point). They offered to decrease our monthly bills, despite our cancellation letter and multiple phone calls. ADT employees have been interruptive, put us on hold, and pushed us on to 3 more employees in many of our conversations with ADT. We were so sick of the increasing bills and phone calls, we just paid the $153.00 they said was our balance.
We asked for an email to verify the account was closed as they said it was with our payment. Nope, never done. Now, a higher bill came in the mail. Again, we called ADT. They now say we could pay about 30 bucks to close the account! Today, it took 4 tries to get employee "B" to read back to me my correct email address. He said he didn't "have time to tie up his line" and put me on hold. I hung up, disgusted with myself for even having paid the $153.00. Horrible waste of time and $$ with ADT.

I think most of these reviews are lies - there are other reviews online that are consistently one stars for ADT or would be lower if allowed. This is a horrible company. They overcharge consistently for absolutely no service. Our alarm system went offline because of phone issues & they did absolutely nothing except tell us it was a phone issue & charged us $184 anyway for labor. Sadly most of these alarm companies are horrible - but ADT is definitely one of the worst.

I was previously an ADT customer between 2000 and 2010 and had no problems with them at that time. Recently, we decided to restore our service and received a promotional offer in the mail for 19.99 a month for 1 year. I called to reactivate our service. The ADT sales representative explained that unfortunately I did not qualify for the 19.99 promotional rate because we do not have a landline, and that monitoring with 4G cellular service would cost 48.99 a month. At that point, I thanked him and said in that case I'm not interested. The ADT rep then asked me to hold while he brought a manager on the phone to see if there was something they could do for me to retain my business.
A manager came on the phone and very clearly said they would give me the monitoring service for 19.99 a month for one year and then it would go to 36.99 a month after that if I signed up. I repeated back the offer just to be sure I did not misunderstand. Yes, she confirmed I would get the promotional offer after all even though I only have cellular phone service. I was also offered $458 in equipment credit, and paid $100 for installation up front and made the appointment for the technicians to come out. Of course, I understood that some new, upgraded equipment would be required, but several basic components were to be included for no additional charge. My intention was simply to restore the previous level of monitoring and security I had several years ago, nothing beyond that.
A couple weeks later, two ADT technicians came to my house (one was a trainee). They were congenial, and at first everything was fine. They proceeded to do an inspection of my old system, and after a brief explanation, they installed a new processor in the "brain box" in my basement, removed my old keypad by my entry door, installed a new keypad, and proceeded with initial system testing. So in my mind, at this point, everything was fine, they were doing what I expected, i.e, simply replacing my old system with a new one.
About a half hour to 45 minutes into the process (after equipment was partially installed), the lead ADT guy asked me for a tour of the house, both inside and outside, so he could do a "risk assessment". Then he asked for a little time so he could "run some numbers". A little while later, I found the lead ADT guy seated at my kitchen table with paperwork in front of him. He invited me to sit down while he presented me with "all the options". Things went downhill from there. A guy who I thought was a professional, straightforward technical installer, turned into a high pressure salesman. For the next hour or more, I was presented with all sorts of equipment options, like indoor cameras, outside audible alarms, doorknob keypads, etc. that I absolutely did not need or want. And they reverted to all the cliche techniques of horror stories and scare tactics of why I needed my house to be Fortress Europa.
I listened patiently, partly because I wanted to see what I could get for the equipment credit of $458. After the long spiel, the ADT guy had the nerve to present me with an initial price tag of over $8000 for all this great equipment I knew I didn't need. I made it clear that was way beyond what I needed, and made it completely clear my intention was only to get a basic system plus use my equipment credit, but not to spend anything out of pocket more than that. The ADT lead guy several times stated that he was an installer, it made no monetary difference to him if I didn't buy any extra equipment, but his actions did not back up his words. Another hour was spent modifying/deleting equipment options, calling his manager back and forth in the office to make tweaks to the offer and giving him reports on "what my needs were". It started to feel like I was in a used car lot, and I was getting worn down and tired.
Eventually, in all the back and forth discussion (in which they simply weren't listening that I didn't want to spend on stuff I knew I didn't need), it came out that my monthly service rate would be $48.99. I was floored. When I told them and explained that I was promised the 19.99 a month for one year promotional rate, they said they had no notes or instructions to that effect and could not do that. I told them that right from the start, my criteria for getting ADT service again was contingent on getting that promotional rate.
Another hour was burned in back and forth calls to his manager to see what could be done to get me to sign up and complete the installation. Several times I told these guys we were done, if ADT was not going to give me what was promised on the phone. They just weren't listening. The lead ADT guy put his manager on the phone with me and I expressed my extreme dissatisfaction at how I was told one thing when I called to set up the installation and service, and was now being told that promise could not be honored. The manager's response was he didn't know why they offered me a rate of 19.99 a month if I had no landline, there was no way they could do that.
Eventually, I almost had to throw the two ADT technicians out, it was so hard to get them to leave. It was very stressful, and even in the last 15 minutes, the lead guy was asking me what day of the month I would like my bank account debited for the monitoring service. Apparently, he misunderstood something I said and thought that suddenly I had changed my mind (?) and now agreed to get service for 48.99 a month (huh??). I was incredulous at the obstinacy.
These guys left after being at my house for 5 hours that I'll never get back. The guy kind of slammed the door when he left clearly frustrated himself, because he didn't get me to sign up. I am not sure if all of this was a case of poor communication within the ADT organization, or a planned, coordinated case of bait and switch, thinking that a customer will go ahead with installation and service by wear down tactics when equipment is already partly installed. The more I think about it, the more I think it's the latter.
I am also angered by the fact that these guys actually left my home in a worse condition than when they arrived. Even though I did not have active ADT service, my keypad and door sensors still worked and chimed when the entry doors were opened, giving us some level of alert. When they left in a huff, they never reinstalled my original keypad. My original brain box and keypad was left off the wall, wires disconnected, no chimes. Overall, terrible experience. (Still waiting for the $100 to be refunded, has not come through yet.)

The local ADT rep called me very promptly and discussed the issue at hand. He told me he would investigate this and call me back by the end of the day Monday. He called me as promised and agreed that what I expected during installation should have installed. ADT will make good on the sales reps promise and I am good with that. I am impressed that it was handled quickly as some large companies will not go out of their way for one person. My view of ADT has greatly changed.

I spent over an hour discussing what I needed and coming to a monthly fee I could afford. I verified with the salesman at least 4 times what I was getting and the price. When the technician arrived, it was completely different from what I agreed to. They use bait and switch tactics to reel you in. I spent 10 years in the Marine Corps and I pay very close attention to details for obvious reasons. Missed a day of work and as a contractor, it cost me over $400.00. Be very careful and maybe speak to a supervisor to make sure you are clear on what you are paying for.

I continue to be happy with my security choices. The system is easy to use and everyone in the family feels safe and secure. The FOBS were a great addition for my kids. It is also great to set up alerts and different codes based on the users in my family. Thanks ADT for helping my family.

A technician came to my house on 6/23 and mis installed a system that we did not ask for. He admitted that he put the system in wrong and we decided to cancel this service because we could see that this was a company we did not want to do business with. We cancelled on the following Monday (6/25) morning and a technician came and took the system out on 6/27. They charged my credit card $347.15 within a few hours that the technician put the system in (incorrectly) on 6/23, but cannot tell me when they will refund my money. I need my money refunded immediately because they received their equipment back in the condition that it was installed in, and we cancelled this service within the three days as per the cancellation agreement.

The first person I spoke to on the phone was very knowledgeable and answered nearly every question I had. He was not pushy and did not attempt to upsell me, but instead walked me through the process. When the installer came out, he too was very friendly and professional, explaining what each device was, and talking about how our existing equipment could be used, or credited. He did not come out to sell anything, but was there as a technical resource and installation expert. Once we agreed to the security package, he completed the installation in about an hour, detailing how charges were applied, and what it would cost in the end. It truly was a great experience, one that is quite uncommon in today's world.

I thought I was going to feel safe when I had them install my alarm. The installation was a bit long (8hrs). During the process the tech said he wasn't getting a good connection and he may have to drill in the walls, three big holes later he said "Ok everything is working". June 15 the alarm was installed. The tech had to come out again because a triangle appeared on alarm pad, tech said it's a communication problem & he doesn't have the things he need to fix it. I had to set up another appointment (although I've already been paying for a service I haven't yet to receive). It was scary because I also use my remote to set alarm & never notice it offline. What if a robber, or something happens while this is going on?
When I called rep act like this is a normal problem. They have & said we would have replaced anything as if that was the matter in hand. I wanted to end the contract due to everything I had experience & the alarm system not working at all. What am I paying for? After speaking with a supervisor she advised me I couldn't end contract because they have a three visit rule but let her send another tech out & if he couldn't fix it they'll relieve me from my contract. After requesting another day off so ADT could fix the problem another tech comes out & says "what you're needing is on back order, you have to make another appointment for them to fix it. You'll need an antenna which is about 20 feet."
What! Still haven't got the problem fix & now very upset because I'm paying for something I haven't even got & Jasmine the supervisor said she can't relieve me from my contract after she said, "Let this tech try & if he can't we'll refund everything." I never knew it would be so difficult to protect my home. Now did I know ADT as a company has no customer service skills & could care less if your alarm is functioning properly. As long as ADT is debiting out your account! I don't recommend ADT, they'll give you nothing but problems. Dissatisfied. Can't wait to speak to someone that can truly help me instead of sending techs out or cancel my contract!
Updated on 10/09/2018: I made a complaint on ADT about their services 7/4/2018. After being with them only a month and having numerous problems. Of course the representative Kesha responded and said she contacted me. Which she left a voicemail and I've attempted to call her and haven't yet got a response. I once again set up a service call and let them come out to "fix the communication problem" my system keeps having. This time was very quick I can give the tech that but here we are two months later (haven't had system 4 months) and we have another "communication" problem. Which means they still take out your account for a service your not receiving but you think your house is protected.
I called again and got the run around art saying it's defender (contractor) defender saying I need to talk to adt cause no one wants to cancel my contract. Defender said I haven't had my 3rd service call, which clearly I have after speaking with Jasmine the last time this happened and hearing I have to wait 3 service calls before they can terminate or I'll have to pay. I have took off work 3 now 4 times for them to fix this problem in an adequate time & it's a big inconvenience!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ADT!!! MY MOM HAS VIVINT & HASNT HAD NO PROBLEMS. DONT MAKE THE WRONG DECISION. WARNING. :)

I have a ADT service under a 3 year contract that after a 1 1/2 years I can't alarm anymore. If I alarm my system it will go off every night within 2 hours. I have spoken with ADT several times and their solution is to send a Tech out for $90 an hour. If this system is under contract then why do I need to pay for your equipment failure? I have replaced so many batteries on this one signal and y'all were on the line when doing this, but still not solved. I even talked about buying out of the contract and y'all said it would be $650, hell no! I will find someone that will buy it out and I will go with their service. ADT's customer service SUCKS!

As you're aware, technology is not "fail proof". Security equipment may sometimes encounter errors and run into trouble. ADT's Quality Service Plan was designed with this in mind. It acts as a form of insurance for the security system, in case any wear-and-tear complications arise.
It would cover labor, time and parts on any service visit that falls under this spectrum of repair work. Examples of what we would consider a wear-and-tear related repair, would be if a sensor fell down because the adhesive wore out, or your system wouldn't arm because of a trouble signal, etc.
Customers that do not have this plan would be quoted the cost of time, labor, parts and a trip fee for any and all repairs. Therefore, the Quality Service Plan does save the customer money, when it comes to repairs.

The ADT responses to the activation of our alarm is always prompt and thorough. They confirm that it was a false alarm and that it is the owner who is answering their call. We could not be more satisfied with ADT, from the initial installation through the calls triggered by false alarms.

I am not happy with my phone call about a bad back up battery. I called in stating that my back up battery was beeping after my power had just went out. I ask them if they can have a new one replaced and they gave me a hard time. They said it wasn't the battery and that is was just low. I said if the power just went out and it's beeping now the back up battery is no good. They said it was good and the power just needs to come back on to recharge it. I spoke to ADT rep and the supervisor. My opinion is that if the battery was good it wouldn't start beeping when the power goes out, it would take some time. I had it shut off longer than that when doing electric in the basement and it never beeped. The power went out just recently again after I called in and it started beeping again.
SO for not wanting to replace a $5 battery I have lost good faith in ADT and looking to replace ADT with another customer. Have a good day and hope you get better customer service and supervisor / manager because they suck. Like all services you expect to pay every month but when it's time for them to pay to fix something they don't want to do it.

The installation and activation was very simple. Our technician was very patient with us and explained everything clearly. The technician was professional, polite and very easy to talk to. He answered all our questions. The installation went very smooth and fast. Customer service is amazing!

We've had ADT for over 10 years and though we had some issues in the very beginning with the system going off due to a sensor problem, once that was resolved it's been smooth sailing. The customer service is excellent as well, and it's nice having the security of the alarm system.

I don't think I can put a price on the safety of my family, but I think ADT provides a good price for the peace of mind they provide me. I have seen their name in many homes since I was a little girl and now they are in my home.

When I renegotiated my contract with ADT to see if they were willing to meet another company monthly I was informed that if I moved there would be no penalty. I even reaffirmed the prior to agreeing to anything. Now I have moved and they are refusing the cancel my service on my move date and are charging me a large cancellation fee. Basically the cost of the unfilled months of service. By the way I was a loyal ADT customer for 3 + years prior to this BS. I have tried to get this issued resolved with ADT and the last person hung up on me. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and this forum as well. Use caution with the company, sale people are slippery, no doubt paid a high commission to resign customers no matter what it takes.

Whenever I have a question, or they need to clear the alarm, they are always so helpful and nice. They always know how to solve my issue. They are patient. I feel very secure having ADT on my side always protecting me.

I am the power of attorney for my mother and I added ADT to her apartment 5 years ago to keep her secure. She went into a nursing home and I had to get her out of her apartment by the end of the month because the nursing home will now take all of her money. I called ADT on Saturday when I was moving my mother out and the reps I talked to were horrible. They were unwilling to assist and kept telling me that I had to follow a "process" to cancel this service. The contract period was up.
I had been in contact with ADT personnel many, many times over the last 5 years due to technical issues, billing issues etc. NO ONE ever asked for a copy of the POA but then they would not cancel the service even though I knew the password without the POA. This absolutely sounds like a scam company to me. I was so angry that I also asked them to cancel my service. They said I had to give 30 days notice and that my service would end on 7/30 but when I woke up on 7/2 my service was cut off. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone for any reason. Terrible company-terrible people (I would certainly not call them customer service reps).

ADT offered a $27.99 monthly basic security monitoring special. We called and set up an appointment. The installers gave us an estimate for all doors and windows. No problem. They then tried to upsell us to the cell coverage and use of their “app” that comes with a higher cost monthly monitoring fees of $52.99. We said, "No thanks". They then offered us a $100.00 gift card if we would use the higher level service for 3 months, at which time we could call to change our monthly fees back down to $27.99. Since it was a wash we took the deal. We never used the “app” of the higher level of service. 4 months later I called to reduce our monthly service and was told no can do.
The contract cancellation time is 30 days and after 3 month the contractor ADT uses is no longer on the hook for support. I spoke to ADT and their authorized dealer, Defender, several times trying to resolve this issue. Neither took ownership of what was promised up front. They hid behind their contract and we are now stuck with 2 years of higher fees than what we originally wanted. To be clear, I read the contract after my calls to ADT and understand what they are saying, however it is completely different than what we were told by the ADT/Defender service installers that sold us the system. I’m ok paying the $27.99 per month. I am not ok paying the higher amount of $52.99 when we were promised we could change. I feel taken advantage of and ripped off by the field teams just trying to make their quota or some kind of bonus. Not sure why they would be so motivated to promise things that were not supported in their contracts.

I was very pleased with the install and the quality of the product. Our technician was friendly, courteous, and helpful. However I was very disappointed to discover that the price quoted to me over the phone was nowhere near what I ended up having to pay. Our monthly fee was more than double what we were quoted and we were told that the credit we had for extra items would cover anything we needed, yet that also was very inaccurate as we had to pay $1600 more for extras.

I must say that I’m pleased with ADT. We’ve used them for about eleven (11) years now ~ and they’ve always provided excellent customer service for us. They do provide me with a peace of mind whenever I’m gonna be away from home.

Very satisfied with response time if alarm is accidentally set off. Provides comfort knowing in case of an emergency ADT will be there. My only concern recently is the monthly cost of this service. Since I am retired with a limited income I have been considering other companies which other family members have and are happy with and their monthly fee is less.

I have been a customer for 30+ years and have always been satisfied with the service. The call center representatives are always professional and courteous when talking to them on the phone. Service technicians always show up when scheduled and are also professional and courteous. I have no complaints about ADT Security.

We lost an alarm key fob and the service to replace it and reprogram the alarm was prompt and complete. The representative said we would be charged for the service call and the fob because a subcontractor does the work but we would be reimbursed by ADT. When we called back, the next representative said we would NOT be reimbursed $60.51.

Garage sensor not picking up. Installer arrived early which was good. He diagnosis the problem very quickly. Found that the original installation was installed upside down. Happy that he fixed it. I replied earlier to ADT about the payment I was making for all of my ADT perks but never heard a response when I asked about paying for a service that was not provided since the initial installation was upside down and never worked properly.

I’m really happy with our service. If we ever accidentally set off the alarm they call to make sure we are okay. I mostly set off the smoke alarms from cooking, LOL. I’m especially happy with the app that lets me set my alarm remotely. It’s easy to use and super convenient.

I’m happy with my service thus far. I do have one concern. The monthly tests and the third party surveillance I’m not comfortable basically. I rely on my phone and keys. I’ve not yet heard from anyone from ADT then. It would be nice to have a person-to-person conversation with someone from the company.

Had at least 4 alternate visits each from Comcast and ADT. New modem, phone line, telephone interfered with system. Many issues, but now resolved. Near end, ADT told me what to have Comcast do and they would return to complete process. It worked.

I've been an ADT customer since I bought my first home in 2002, and I'd been satisfied with my service until my mother, also a long-time ADT customer, had to move in with me due to health issues -- my father's death from protracted battle with cancer, followed by my mother's near-death from aneurysm and stroke. When we sold her house two years ago, and she canceled her contract with ADT, she was charged $500 early cancellation fee. I called ADT customer service on her behalf and asked that the fee be waived due to her unforeseen health issues. They agreed, if I could provide a letter from her doctor to prove that she had health issues. Fine. We'll jump through the hoops, ADT.
We obtained a letter from mom's physician and faxed it to the number provided by ADT's representative; however, the letter is marked as having never been received. When we called back after mom's fee was referred to collections, we were told that the fax# that we had her letter sent to was to the wrong office at ADT. Well, my mom didn't come up with that # on her own -- she was told to use that number by an agent at ADT. We've since gotten new phone numbers to whom we need to fax the paperwork from ADT representatives on two occasions, each time to only be told that that, too, is the incorrect number. Most recently, I was able to get an email address to which I could email a digital copy of the letter; however, the letter has yet to be acknowledged as having been received by ADT.
Yesterday, when I called once again to confirm receipt of the latest sending of the letter via email, I was told that it would take at least four days before that question could be answered, and at that point, I was asked if the letter I'd sent had been notarized. Give me an entire break. I informed the rep that, at no point during this debacle, had notarization of her doctor's letter ever been a requirement. She assured me that it was not a requirement but she was "just asking." Well, if it's not a requirement, then why suddenly ask about it?
My feeling is that that ADT's contracts seem predatory in nature, the hoops through which they ask customers to go in order to be released from those contracts seem excessive, and the fact that they keep moving the goal to get the process finished seems disingenuous if not downright dishonest. Despite the fact that I've been a long-time customer, ADT no longer seems to operate in the way that a reputable, customer-centered company does.

I am very happy with all that was included in the security package for the price. Home security, plus life alert necklace, cell phone programs for managing system at home or remotely. I appreciate the "on-star" like features when traveling plus road assistance up to 2 times per year, personal security monitoring away from home. I think it's an excellent price for all that I am getting. I'm not sure I like that it is a 3 year contract, but I do like that the price is never supposed to increase. I've told everyone about this service.

They're quick to respond to a problem. If not by phone, sending somebody out to take care of the problem. My granddaughter had hit a button on one of the fobs, setting off the silent alarm, and they were quick to respond by sending the police out here.

With my former Home Protection Service I would have to go through several channels before I could talk to a person. The length of time to restore service was unacceptable because the first tech did not resolve the problem of replacing a wire in the keypad panel and it took a second tech to come out and resolve the problem. I had to call office numerous times to get a status update.

We wanted an alarm system and at the time we got Brink’s security service, then they merged with ADT. I’ve been very pleased with the features offered in the security package that I got. I've never had a problem with the customer service and employees at ADT. My only issue is I feel the price is too high for what I use. I only upgraded my system because my new Spectrum phone and computer service was digital and the old analog ADT system wouldn't work with Spectrum.

I was able to get a quick appointment and the tech had to replace the smoke unit which was not functioning properly. It was easy to reach a live assistant on our call in. The phone assistant was able to give me simple instructions to bypass the system location until it got fixed, so we did not have to keep listening to the beep.

We spoke to customer service who dispatched someone to investigate and repair. He was able to identify and correct the problem by installing a new battery. When the technician arrived, he was very clear. No cell service = MUST use landline. No "booster" could solve the problem. When asked how we heat the house over the winter, I was honest. We don't. So he checked at my request and was told not to install. The batteries cannot stand the cold. A few questions when I first inquired would have saved us all time and trouble.

Each time I have accidentally set off the alarm (and if the alarm continued for more than a few seconds), someone has called me. The one time I somehow hit the "Panic" button, there was an IMMEDIATE telephone call, and I was asked several questions before the person was satisfied with my responses. I called to request a technician to come at an agreed date to install and set up an alarm system at the condo we purchased and will move to on July 30. We currently are a customer of ADT at our present home. I was connected to sales. The experience was good in that all details were sorted out and options were explained and discussed. It was agreed that the salesperson would call back the next day but that we might not be able to take the call and that they should continue to call so that a package could be agreed and a technician booked. The person did call but we just missed it and expected to get another call to ensure the system would be installed at the agreed time, but have not heard back since.
The dissatisfaction arises from two aspects; 1. My clearly stated request was that I called to book a technician to come and evaluate the premises for installation of a system and either install or set a time for installation once he/she knew what was required, but spent a long time with ‘Sales’; and 2. Not having heard back and not knowing how to restart the request without starting all over via the 800 number. I am not dissatisfied with the salesperson per se but the cumbersome process.

I have had ADT for over fifteen years. I have felt completely satisfied, and still do today with the personal security it affords me in my home. When I have had phone conversation with the Customer Service department they have been courteous, helpful, and polite. They are also very quick to notify me by phone when there was something awry with the System. Only twice necessary in 15 years. It was handled immediately. In my estimation they are a great company, and are always available if needed.

I have received a phone call right away checking on me. That situation made me feel very protected! One time while at work I received a call letting me know a door to the garage was open. I am happy that the system was restored. But 2hrs later phone stop working. The cellular backup light is orange. All lights must be green. I think this has something to do with my phone not working. It was working before the man worked on the system. I don't what mistake he might have made.

We have never had a break-in, but every time the alarm has been set off accidentally, ADT has answered. This makes me feel secure. However, recently, at times my alarm has been a little difficult to set. For example, for no apparent reason when I try to set it, the voice will say "Not ready to set." Eventually, the alarm will set, but this may need to be checked by a professional.

I am happy with everything except the door open sensors. Already had one adjusted and now I am having trouble with my front door... Door is shut and double locked but I have to pound on the door with my fist before I can arm the system. Sensor says the door is open... I need someone to come out and adjust or replace the sensor.

Overall the ADT service is very good, especially the field technicians. The telephone CSR's however could use more customer response training so that the tone of their voices seem more friendly and knowledgeable. My last experience with a telephone CSR relating to a problem was not good.

Sensor became loose and didn't make contact when the door was closed. Service person came out and installed a new one. They sent the tech person out the next day. He was very professional. Would recommend ADT to friends.

ADT doesn't treats their long time customers very well. We pay premium price for old crummy ugly equipment. Last tech that came out was clueless. He just tapped the alarm sensors together and set them on the table. Said they are connected so I don't have to bypass any of the window zones. DUH!!! I said, "How does that protect us with all sensors sitting on the table?" I had to insist he attached them. IDIOT!!! He did with some crappy double sided tape. Some keep coming loose and fall off. We have to go buy better tape and re-attach them ourselves.

Seems to be offline often. Cameras not picking up at times when need to see who is in our yard. I do prefer to have system than not. Like live camera to keep track of my fur baby. I'm not as happy with this system as I had thought I would be.

I find that my service cost is considerably higher than my sister's who live just a block away from me. I have had several increases on my bill and she's not had any, I don't understand that. My husband has retired and is home most of the time so it's not activated as much. That's just something to think about.

We are very pleased with our updated home security system. The outside camera is efficient and the new control panel is much improved. The techs were good at their job and did a quick but thorough job. We purchased the Ring as well and they installed it for us and we like the safety feature of answering the door from the inside especially if we don’t know who is on the other side of our front door! I appreciate ADT staff follow-up after a mistake with the alarm system or an incident. Staff is knowledgeable and the help they give is both accurate and inclusive. When issues arise, technicians arrive and complete their work efficiently and then they give helpful instructions on how to continue to use the system with the least possible difficulty.

ADT protecting my home is the best thing that we have done since buying the home. Since we are at work most of the day, I know our home is safe and with the multiple area of security (all doors and a sensor) I don’t have to worry about having someone coming into our home unannounced. Everything so far has been good and we are about 3 months into using the system. Best feature is the app. If we forget, we can arm/disarm from the app. Notifications are useful and keeps a record of all the activity from the home. As for now, we enjoy it and when the cameras are installed, we’ll keep enjoying it!

In spite of the fact that my dog is not 80 pounds, she apparently triggers the alarm if I set it when I leave the house and I therefore cannot set it unless I'm staying home. Also, the monthly expense is more than I understood it to be. My installation, however, was very smooth and professionally done.

If your pup is able to get close enough to appear larger, he is just as able to trigger the alarm as an intruder. I have been with ADT since 1994. One thing I do not like is if your alarm goes off because you did not dis-alarm in time, I do not like a recording calling my house instead of a human being. It was not the detector batteries. It was the detector itself. It kept beeping. Customer Service talked me step by step how to stop the noise AND scheduled a tech appointment to replace the carbon detector. Tech came over, replaced entire unit. Works great!

I love having ADT Pulse. Knowing that we have cameras to capture footage in the event of a break in is very reassuring. Being able to access the cameras when we are away is also great. We decided to add a camera for the front porch and another one in the garage. The ADT rep that installed was fast and very informative. When he was finished he mentioned we could have installed a doorbell with a camera that alerted us on our phone when there was movement on the porch and the outdoor camera he just installed would be a good idea around the pool in the back. We wish he suggested that before he installed the camera as we would have gone with his idea!!

Today (June 23, 2018 between 2 and 4:30 pm a man (I forgot his name) came to my house to assess the requirements to install a security system (ADT). Everything was fine. He showed me what the system cost. And I said, "I have to figure out how I can get that money so I can pay it." He went on to say, "I can give you a lower price with less equipment." I explained to him that if I am getting a system I want the full system. Not a partial one. He continued to show me how he could get me a lower rate and I kept explaining to him that I would consider the full system once I find out how I can pay for it. Then he started yelling at me that he traveled a long way so he can make an installation so he could feed his daughter. That he does not make any money unless he makes the installation. I asked him to leave a few times.
He called a man on the phone and started laughing that I wanted a free security system. He then made another call and claimed it was so I could get my money back. He was on hold for about 5 minutes and I asked him to leave again. He said he can't leave until someone answers the phone (this was another odd thing, he was able to talk to a person from the company which I could hear a conversation where they were insinuation how stupid I was for not buying the system *words to that effect*, but he had trouble trying to find a person so I could get reimbursed my 99 dollars). While all of this was happening, I received an alert from my smartphone that my credit was being accessed. It turns out ADT accessed my credit report without my knowledge or consent. This has to be illegal. I am reporting this to all credit bureaus and as many people I can.
If I had known this beforehand, I probably would have stopped the presentation at that moment. I felt threatened and called the police. I explained to the police what was going on and the operator asked to talk to him. He refused to talk to her 2 or 3 times and she said to tell him if he does not speak to her he will have to speak to the police. He laughed a few times during this dialogue and finally spoke to the operator. He did leave right after that.
I really don't know what kind of people you hire, but this is totally unacceptable. I am terrified that individual will try to harm me, my family or my property. I am not sure what to do. But if this is the way you do business, I will have to discuss this with a lawyer and see if anything can be done for my safety. Thank you for your attention. PS. While the man was making the presentation, my phone alerted me of a credit report inquiry. Something I was unaware of. I was not advised that such an inquiry was being made. I believe I am supposed to be informed of that. I will contact the credit report agencies about this.

I used to have another home security then ADT came along and I've had them since 15 years ago. Then 2 years ago, I had our system upgraded to the new stuff. I spoke with a rep and he asked all the right questions. I had most of the right answers and then they came up with a good price and we did it. One guy came and installed and he did a good job. He also explained everything to me, how to add on modules and how to work it. I'm very pleased with everything. I like the cell phone connection instead of the wire connection which could be cut. I especially like the way one can access the camera from anywhere in the world. In fact, I'd like to talk to somebody about more cameras. Overall, ADT does a good job. If you wanna see my system, come over. I'd support it, I'd promote it.

I just had ADT install and paid $100 upfront for the equipment. I will get a $100 Visa gift card after I fill out paperwork, get a copy of my contract and get a cashier's check or money order for $4.95 to handle shipping and handling of mailing the card to me. Within three days of the system being installed, I get my first bill. I understand the pro-rate fee for what's left of the month but the charge for the whole of next month is much higher than I agreed to. Calling customer service I am told that because ADT doesn't have my contract yet they default to the highest fee and will adjust the following bill when they receive the contract. Also, they are taking the first bill out of my account within 72 hrs even though I agreed to a certain date. They seem more worried about money than they do about their customers. I'm regretting switching to this company.

An ADT Authorized Dealer is an independently owned and operated company. They install and sell alarm equipment, but do not provide a monitoring service. They partner and contract with us to provide a monitoring service to their privately acquired customers and, in some instances, ADT purchases the contract from them after a pre-arranged set of time.
For these reasons we would need to escalate your complaints through them, as they would be the party to resolve your concerns.

I have had service with ADT for over 20 years. I have paid the highest monitoring fees in the industry for this entire time. I have just sold my house and call two weeks in advance to cancel my contract, and they tell me it will take 30 days to process! Trust me the money does not matter, be it's a bunch of "money making" crap on their end. Then later they process the cancellation, the least amount of paid monies they need to pay back. If you ordered new service, they would provide you service within a few days. When it comes to returning your money, it's a scam! I will be purchases a new alarm system in a few months. It's a phone call that ADT will never receive from me. Customer lost forever!!!

The technician was very kind and detailed in his explanation of how the service works. He was very patient with two old ladies who live alone. He was very professional. The system is amazing. My 90 year old mother can control it with ease. She said after the installation she had the most peaceful nights sleep she experienced in a very long time. I first got Brinks and now it's ADT. Whenever I had to interact with the team, they've all been helpful and very polite. The equipment works great and does what I want. The features we have are fine too. I've always had good service from the company. I had to have them come out last year because there was some battery in it that made the motion go off, and they were prompt to come out and they fixed it.

We've been a customer of ADT for 30 years and my experience has been good with one exception. Their prices are becoming uncompetitive and I'm stimulated to buy another service that has something in the vicinity of half of the price of what they're charging. But I am generally satisfied with everything. The equipment I have in the house that I'm in right now has lasted 18 years with a few things having to be done like battery replacement and a couple of defective pieces. But other than that, I'm quite pleased with what service they've provided.
The people that answered when there was a false alarm or something like that were very pleasant to deal with for the most part. I also had a favorable experience with sales other than sometimes, for my liking, being slightly pushy. But generally they know their product and their business. Their technicians are very pleasant people, quite knowledgeable, technical and willing to answer questions.
But it's not so much that the price has gone up because I was a businessman and I know that over time things change and the prices have to rise, and for other reasons they have to make sale and continue the growth path. But there are a number of things that are obstructing people from wanting to take out a new system with them. There are home security systems that you can put in yourself that need less maintenance and have attached cameras, which I don't have with ADT. And I can get that for a price that after two years, I've got the system paid for by the difference between ADT's price for monitoring and the other company's price for monitoring.
I've thought about it for the other house we have where I have very few sensors and I'm paying as much as I am for this house, which has 25 sensors. The other house, I could buy the sensor package, hook it up myself and use their service and I would pay that off in a matter of maybe six or eight months by the difference in the price. So while I'm not actively considering changing now, if I see any more price rises with ADT, I'm gonna have to do a cost trade-off analysis and figure out if it's cheaper to buy whatever the other products are that are being offered these days. But I would recommend ADT's service if price is not a consideration.

I’ve had ADT for over 10 years and I have felt a great amount of relief in having their security system. The features that are included in my security package are fine and I've been feeling very safe with the features I have, such as the motion sensors. My interactions with the reps and the techs were fine as well. I talked with the reps about trying to get my bill lowered and they worked with me, and everything’s fine. When the installer came over, he went over the little booklet that they gave me and he told me all about how the unit works. We've been in our home for 30 years and because my parents had it out on the Key, it was just kind of a no-brainer for a young family to have protection for fire, burglary and everything else. We got an interesting system. It's called the Simon System, which was used in the Pentagon back in those days. Everything is wireless and very sophisticated so we're real happy and this is through ADT.
But when they put the battery-operated contacts on all the windows and doors -- from skylights to garage door -- they recommended with a sticker right on it that you must use Duracell batteries. So under contract they would come out when we had a failed unit and put in Duracell batteries. One night we woke up to a horrible alarm. We thought somebody was breaking in the house. It turned out to be a contact. After that we called technician. The Duracell batteries leaked. They're famous for leaking. After I did more and more research I found out you should never use Duracell battery in anything that you have because it doesn't matter if you're in Florida or Alaska, they are vented batteries and they will ruin your appliances.
ADT was so amazing. They came in and they replaced every single one in the house. Typically, the bill would have been about $1,800 and I didn't have to pay a dime because they realized that this was no fault of the homeowner. They were responsible for the batteries and they were actually poisoning the unit by putting the Duracell in there. So their new units are all lithium batteries which cannot leak and they don't use Duracell anymore.
But I was so happy because at first, I'm thinking, "My god. It's been in the house for all these years. I'm sure I'm gonna be responsible for something." And they have been so good. We're very pleased with their responses to alarms and just the way they work. We wouldn't go anywhere else. They're all pros and they all do follow-up to make sure you're happy, which to me is amazing in this day and age.

I’ve had ADT for 30 years and I am quite well-satisfied with it. They respond very quickly when the alarm goes off and everything is fine in my interactions with their team.

ADT Pulse is not working on mobile. App showing as system offline. One of the LEDs on the ADT module showing red. Called customer service. I followed their instructions. Still not working. They send the technical person. He came and fixed it. They charged 117$. When I called why you charged. They said I don’t have ADT pulse repairs coverage. When you take ADT pulse make sure you have free tech service. They service only the panel repair. Not the ADT pulse router.

I rarely write reviews but this is the worst business I’ve encountered in awhile. I’ve had several problems with MY system and they’ve serviced it four times. They only let you out of your contract if the same issue occurs more than three times, yet I was on my fourth and they wouldn’t honor a release. Customer service is very rude, aggressive and I’ve been hung up on. Item return and termination deadlines are very strict— they won’t let you out of contract or return an item past one day, for any reason. Asking to speak to a manager will result in “I don’t have a manager”. I strongly recommend considering other reputable security companies before you sign with Defenders ADT.

ADT's sales rep was a nice young man. When I got the rest of the stuff done, I called them to ask if I was qualified to upgrade and when the guy came, he said that I got everything covered. I also got along really well with the installer. Both of them were really nice people. When I had false alarms, ADT's reps called and asked me if everything was okay. They also asked what was my panel's code and I told them it was me. It was a way to make sure the system was working, too. I only have one panel but sometimes, when I'm walking in, I just walk past it and it would not even make a noise. Other than that, ADT provides a great service and the system makes me feel safe at home. I really like the motion sensors because I don’t want anybody in the house. I'd recommend ADT highly and I have a girlfriend that got it as well.

I’ve had ADT for over 20 years and having their system makes me feel secure. I used to have a friend that worked there. I've been pleased with their service and they've met all my expectations. My interactions with the reps have been excellent. The features that are offered in my service package are fine, although I'm sure we could do an upgrade, but I'm not interested in doing that right now. I would recommend them highly. In fact, my daughter is using ADT because of our service.

When I renegotiated my contract I was informed that if I moved there would be no penalty. I even reaffirmed the prior to agreeing to anything. I am now moving and they are refusing the cancel my service on my move date and are charging me a large cancellation fee. Do not go with their service. They will tell you whatever you want to hear to make you sign up.

If you purchased your services directly through ADT, we do have a relocation policy in place. If you were to take advantage of this policy, you would not be held responsible for your balance of contract at your current location.
For liability reasons, ADT does not transfer equipment from one location to another. Our internal policy stipulates that you would be required to cancel your services at the original address and obtain a new system in your new home. You would also be required to sign a new agreement with ADT. However, as a pre-existing customer, you may be eligible for discounts towards your new system. Our relocation team would calculate this amount based on your tenure at the previous location. Contingent upon all of these conditions being met, ADT would waive any termination balances you would have had at the previous location.

ADT sucks and they are no good. The alarm was triggered a couple of months ago. I was leaving the house and I set the alarm. After I left, ADT called and they wanted to know whether they needed to dispatch. I told them no and that it was me. I was already two miles away from the house. I just set it and it was okay, but they didn't ask me for my password. They didn't ask anything in spite of the fact that I told them to cancel. I dropped my daughter at school two miles away and came back here. As I was pulling to the driveway, they dispatched the fire truck and police and they were here.
I called and made a complaint on that. The lady that took the complaint said that she was gonna follow up on that and that she was gonna call me back to let me know. However, she never called me back up until today. Furthermore, sometimes the ADT reps don't ask for the password. The rep asked one of the four things, but they need to know that the people in the house are the people that are setting the alarm, whether it's accidental or something like that, so I didn't like it.
Also one time, I was watching the news and the commercial kept coming up. The monthly dues went down for some people, so I called them and I asked why they can’t give me the same rate. They said that it was for incoming members or new people. I said that I was sitting with them for almost 9 or 10 years and they should be giving customers like me the same deal they're giving the people coming in. After all, we've been tenured with the system. They said okay and took $2 something out, although a month right after, they put it back to what it was.
Sometimes ADT responds quickly and sometimes they respond late. I live in an area that is safe, for now, and they take it for granted. You'd never know, things may change. Sometimes they call the house, sometimes they call the cell phone, and sometimes they call my wife's phone to make sure everybody's okay. So far, my ADT experience is good and at this point, I don't want to change.

Late May of 2018 I received an ADT mailer advertising home security service for $27.99 per month. The advertisement had these great features and benefits including updated technology. On April 6, 2018, I was scheduled to have my home alarm system replaced by ADT. I had my previous carrier for 8 years—all wireless technology. I discussed with scheduler the plan I wanted. Well, the installer came, started the installation then proceeded to try and sell me all these additional things to which I declined except one additional sensor. After completing the installation, it’s now time to sign the contract. The contract says $54.99 per month. I told the installer that this isn’t what I called in for. He goes on to say how this was a better system. The advertised system requires a home phone line (this was not mentioned during the initial conversation).
After several minutes of debating back and forth he calls the supervisor. I told him that this isn’t the advertised price. Now I am not backing down because the reason for changing companies was to get updated equipment at a better rate. The installer intentionally installed what they perceive as an upgraded system in hopes that I would just accept it like driving a new car and keeping it overnight—BAIT and SWITCH! He said he didn’t have the equipment to “downgrade” the system but would return the next day to do so. Well, we know that did not happen! I called 2 days later to let them know that I am not accepting a system that’s twice the price that I asked for. With my busy schedule the tech came and I was out of town.
The next time he came I was headed out to a business appointment and he said it would take an hour so I had to reschedule— you see where this is going! Finally, he came back on Saturday, June 16. The piece of crap that he installed to the back of my modem and landline phone is so antiquated that it’s pathetic. Again he tried to sell me a second keypad for $25 (50% discount) because he didn’t have the cheapo pad that came with the crappy system. I refused. Coincidentally, he went out to his truck to get me a copy of the booklet and just happened to find the crappy cheapo keypad—BAIT and SWITCH. Now I am livid. How can a company train its salespeople to be so deceitful and dishonest! This piece of crap now sits on top of my desk in my office away from any entry doors. The wires are sticking out behind my modem and landline.
To top it off, the system knocked my landline out of service. Now I cannot make business calls. When I called customer service on Monday, I was treated like I was a criminal who did something wrong, the fact that I couldn’t align my schedule with their schedule was my fault! To top it off, the customer service agent suggested that I call the phone company to come service my phone line! Go figure! After I refused over the phone tech support, I was accused to making a big to do about something so small that would be handled over the phone. Well, the CS agent immediately called me back and connected me with tech support. As suspected there was nothing that he could do remotely! The installer/salesman came back on Tuesday. Lo and behold, he found the problem— it was his fault. Faulty installation!
With this system, I have set myself back by an entire decade! Old antiquated technology that will go out with the slightest power surge. Of course, my three day cancellation period is up! If I had seen this crappy setup on day one I would have thrown it and the installer out of my house. You see the plan— get you to run down your three day cancellation period. Now, I am stuck in a three year contract with crappy old antiquated equipment that has one year warranty. We all know how that will end up! Tonight I spoke with my attorney who suggested that I try and resolve this with ADT before enlisting him for assistance. What is a consumer to do! I am sick of these big companies ripping people off without any consequences! By the way, the installer confirmed all my speculations! This is how they treat consumers at ADT!
