The day I called ADT I had just experienced some issues with someone trying to get in a bedroom window. While speaking to CS she told me about their package which was $850 worth of free equipment but since something had happened to my house she would connect me to her manager so he could help more. Once speaking to the manager he added additional credit to my account so I could have the basic package which included: Door sensors, window sensors, motion detector, outside siren, lifetime warranty, 1 key fob. While transferring me back to the CS he told her to upgrade me to shock sensors, an additional key fob, and to add 2 door and 3 windows sensor for my mother in law that is currently under construction. The CS said, "Wow that’s a great deal!"
Now it was time to talk about the monitoring. I asked her the difference between the $27.99 and the $52.99 and she told me the $52.99 came with an outside camera. Since I don’t need an outside camera I went with the $27.99... I doubled checked the warranty and she said, "Yes, lifetime warranty." I was all set and feeling safe. The sales guy make his way over the next day... To my surprise he tried to sell me a $6,000 system but I asked him to just give me what I ordered during my phone call the previous day. He did some kind of weird math and only ended up giving me 3 door sensors 8 window sensors and 1 key fob. I didn’t get a motion detector, a siren, or the second key fob.
Aside from my disappointment I continued on with installation while he tells me about the monitoring. He tried selling me the $52.99 and again I told him no. I was going to do $27.99 and that’s when he informs me it actually has only a 90 day warranty. I explained what the CS told me and his response was, "That’s how they talk you into letting someone come out." So beyond frustrated. He also told me he would bring yard signs the next day... I’ve never received them. When I called to explain the situation another CS told me, "Well if you are going to cancel you need to do it before the next two days." I can’t believe how much they don’t care for the company. Literally worst company ever.
Hi Rachel- Thanks for reaching out. The $27.99 monthly rate does not include a QSP plan (Quality Service Plan) and would require specific needs such as a landline. We're sorry to learn your overall experience was unsatisfactory, and we encourage you to email our team @AlwaysThere@ADT.com with your contact info and the address so we can review this further and reach out to assist. Thank you- Tim L

We have been a loyal customer of ADT for over 15 years. We recently built a house in the country and needed a security system to deter burglaries so we contacted ADT. The sales rep came out and we contracted a 36 month plan with the promise from ADT on adding cameras once the house was complete. With the house now completed we contacted ADT to add cameras. Since we have satellite internet ADT could not add the cameras failing on the promise we were given upfront. We then contacted customer service to cancel the contract so we could go with a different company that uses cellular technology for the cameras for our home. ADT would not let us out of the contract. The customer service department was very unprofessional and just outright rude. Buyer Beware!! ADT shows no loyalty and frankly could care less if your home is secure or not!!

I called ADT and spoke to an agent. He was friendly and seemed to want to help. He understood what we're looking for and offered us a package, we signed the contract and the technician was coming next day morning. When the technician arrived, he told us he received an order to install a completely different package with half of what we ordered and said if we want to add more equipment we need to pay more. He was nice and apologized, we canceled the installation and called ADT again to figure out what we were going to do. We called ADT again and explained the situation to another agent and took her name. I asked her about things the first agent told us, she said that was not true and said she will give us another package.
We thought ok, maybe ADT is not a bad company after all and maybe we just happened to talk to a bad agent that lies and tricks customers to get his commission. Well, she said: "Please hold on a minute. I'm calculating my numbers..." then she hang up in our face! She didn't call us back although she had our phone numbers. At this point we felt stuck because the first agent lied and tricked us into signing the contract and this agent got scared because we wrote her name down and freaked out and didn't want to get in trouble so she simply hang up on us!
Well we didn't know what to do... We just signed a 3-year contract and didn't know what kind of fees we were facing... We called again. This time we were done and just wanted to cancel. They sent me through hoops... 4 agents... one agent to another... with the last agent I said: "Look... I just want to cancel my service!" I asked whether or not we would have to pay for all the 3 years (the first agent that completed the order said yes we will have to pay for all 3 years if we canceled the contract)… They said, "No the contract is void." We canceled and started shopping for another security system. I will never recommend them for anyone.

After the installation be sure to read contract carefully!!! I was never advised by sales folks over the phone, or installer, of extra cost for pulse because I do not have a landline phone. I was told over the phone it would be $36.99 per month. Then after the installer rushed me through signing, I read it was going to be 52.99 per month! When I called I was only told I could purchase a phone line to lower cost or cancel... So today is the third day and I have to decide to cancel or not... Hmmmm...
Hello Mark- We are sorry to learn of your experience. ADT's pricing model is not based on the amount of equipment you have, rather the services being offered to you.
That said, every bundle package will include a limited set of equipment (ex: 2 doors/windows, 1 motion, keypad). Adding additional contacts/equipment that aren't included in a promotion will effect your installation cost. Adding additional services, such as cellular back up monitoring, fire monitoring, ADT Pulse, etc., will all impact your monthly rate as well.
Your package will always be determined by the highest level of services that you receive. All other lower tier add-on services are simply an option you may choose to take advantage of by purchasing the applicable equipment.
There is traditional monitoring with landline communication, traditional monitoring with cellular communication, and there is also bundles including traditional monitoring, cellular/landline communication and Pulse.

To be released from the contract you would have to relocate your services with Defenders, or the new homeowner would have to set up services through that same dealer. Should you need to speak Defenders further, their contact # is 1-800-689-9554. Thank you. -Andrew." ADT does not support their name "ADT". They sell you to a third party and tell you to contact them!!?? See above. The third part does not have anything to do with ADT, it's a scam. Do not trust ADT to provide any customer service, again just give you a number to a third party vendor that will not answer the phone.
Original Review: I have tried on 5 different occasions to get help from customer service. I called ADT. I had an ADT technician come to my home and signed papers with ADT on them. I was actively selling my house. For sale sign in the yard. I asked can I shift the service to the new owners when I sell the house? I was told "yes, absolutely, ADT will just shift the contract to the new owners." That is ADT policy. The problem is ADT lies and false advertises. ADT secretly sells your service to a third party vendor to install your service and the third party vendor chose not to follow ADT policy. I have now sold the house, the new owners wanted the service and I cannot do what you promised. How can you say you are a trusted security provider if I can even trust you to tell the truth? I will continue to post #ADTLies, #ADTFalseAdvertises, #DontTrustADT from this point on!!! I cannot believe you have no way to resolve this...

Do not sign with them! Lesson learned. They don't care about whatever circumstance are even if your house burns down! They will not care. Oh and they will take the money out of your account not authorized!!! The sales rep lied. Said contract was for 1 year and ended up being 3! ADT only has 3 year contracts. Be aware of the crooked sales reps! I have sent photos and instead of ADT knowing my house is no longer standing they still went in my bank account not authorized to do so and withdrew 700 and "management" does not care and will do nothing!
Sent photos and everything they asked for to prove my situation. I asked them if they care about the money or losing me as a customer forever... They responded and said, "Sorry this is not our fault. We can't do anything to help!" Lost my business forever and wouldn't never recommend EVER! The sales reps are liars and crooked!! They will change your contract and lie to you about whatever they need to lie about to get you to sign a digital contract! 3 years is the minimum contract! Don't believe anything else they say, and your contract can't be transferred! Never under no circumstances such as mine with no house!!! Thanks for stealing my money ADT!!!

We thought the cameras were wonderful until our car got broken into. We checked the recordings. Come to find out (and something ADT does NOT disclose) is that the cameras will record when motion is detected, FOR THIRTY SECONDS... EVERY FOUR MINUTES! Our thieves waited for a car to drive by to trigger the camera, waited 30 seconds and broke into the car. POINTLESS! Even the police officer that took our report didn't know this and was shocked. We complained but they won't let us out of our contract. We offered to keep the detectors on our door and the home security. We wanted money back for our cameras so we can get cameras that will actually help us. TERRIBLE customer service. They won't do anything.
Hello Lori-We are truly sorry for any troubles you have had with your cameras. May you please email ADT at AlwaysThere@adt.com with your account information? We'd be happy to review your account. Thank you. -Gabe

I am closing my escrow on new home in 3 weeks and was browsing for security systems and entered information on ADT website to get the quote. I didn't got a quote through email rather I got a call within 30 minutes from a representative who explained me what they provide and how the system works. He was pushing it very hard to schedule an appointment and when I heard they will do credit check I told him not to do anything with my credit check as I am in process of closing my escrow.
I really begged him not to do anything now and I will give them a call once I get into the house. I told repeatedly not to do anything and he transferred it to his manager and even he is trying to sell me the plan right away. I explained everything about my escrow closing in 2 weeks and I don't want any credit runs on my report. He said ok. But after 2 days I got a notification that my credit has been hard pulled from defender security which is a third party system ADT uses to run credit checks.
I called ADT and was online for more than 2 hours talking to more than 5 different people explaining the same issue, finally they agreed upon to review the audio call and work on taking out the hit on my credit report which never happened. Please be aware of these kind of situations. ADT, if we really need your service you guys don't have to force us so hard to take the subscription, we know what we need and we take decisions based on different situations. Please don't ever ever try to push the consumer and do these kind of hassles.
Hello Vikram. We're very sorry for this experience with ADT and one of our authorized dealers., Defender Security. AKA. Protect Your Home.

Please provide us with your contact number and address and we'll follow up with Defenders on your behalf to address your concerns further. Should you need to reach out to them directly, their number is 1-800-689-9554 as well. Thank you. -Andrew

I signed a three year contract with ADT in June 2016 for the amount of $1007.64 in which $840.22 has been paid leaving a balance of $167.42. The contract ends in June 2019. In August I received a bill in the amount of $236.88. I contacted ADT customer service and was advised I owe $236.88 and will be billed an additional bill in January for $329.00. I didn't agree with the charges so I asked the representative to explain how these charges occurred.
I spoke with at least a dozen reps on different occasions and each had a different explanation, examples: Penalized for paying account in advance, unauthorized verbal change in contract without my knowledge, upgrading new equipment (which I never did) and on and on. On Sept 7. 2018 a representative informed me that it was an error on ADT's part and disregard the $236.88 bill and I wouldn't be getting a bill until Jan 2019 and promised me she will note my account. I called back later that afternoon and was told everything was taken care of.
Within a week the calls and bills start arriving again. I contacted ADT and was told that there wasn't a note on my account and no evidence I spoke with a rep. I asked to speak with an ADT supervisor, I told him the date and time the call was made and asked him to pull the tape and listen to the conversation. ADT contacted me the next day stating they listen to the tape and the rep did not tell me anything about charges being dismissed. I challenged ADT to send me a transcript of the call, they stated I had to get a subpoena.
In the meanwhile I spoke with a very rude manager who firmly stated "THE CHARGES STAND". After being on the phone for over an hour I asked what would it take for me to get out of the contract and deal with ADT anymore. The manager quoted me a price of $171.00 directing me to pay it to the Accounting Dept. After she transferred me to the accounts the price went to $284 41. At that point I paid and asked that my contract to be cancelled.
It's very unfair that I've paid the contract in full in good faith (till June 2019) but services are getting disconnected on Oct 25, 2018. I will make sure I keep a copy of my contract with me at all times along with my notes and educate everyone on ADT's deception. I will canvas my neighborhood, contact legislatures and advise them of the deception also. ADT are thieves!!
Hello Kerri - Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. As it stands, the terms of the agreement are fully disclosed at the time of installation. By signing, you are acknowledging that you have read and understand the presented terms, and accept them. We believe in being transparent, that is why the length of the contract and penalty for premature cancellation is in bold font on the first page of all of our agreements.
Furthermore, ADT does have a relocation policy in place, so if you only needed services for one year at this address, we would have been able to help you with relocating to another address without any contractual penalties.
This is not to say that ADT does not sympathize with your current situation, as we do. ADT automatically discounts the cost of premature cancellation by 25% on all residential accounts. This is a courtesy that you are contractually guaranteed. Please let us know if we may be of any further assistance. Thank you~ Eileen

Jason, our installation specialist was excellent. He was helpful and patient during our setup process. One thing that my wife and I were frustrated with regarding this process was that it was extremely difficult to get an estimate of the actual cost, without agreeing to have someone come to the house to install it. I was also led to believe that this would cost only approximately $28 per month, but then found out that this was only for landline phone setup, and therefore this actually cost around $55 per month, nearly twice the original amount.

My 36 month equipment lease was about to expire so I provided the proper notice to have it terminated upon completion and roll into a maintenance agreement. This would reduce my payment from $167 to $35 per month and I was assured everything was good to go upon expiration of the lease in March. Instead they auto renewed my lease and kept charging me $167. My account was on autopay by cc so I didn't notice until July that the change had not taken place. Once I realized I called customer service and was pushed from person to person spending over an hour on the phone each time I called. I didn't think it was fair to pay the additional $132 per month since the change didn't take place.
ADT claimed the change didn't take place because I never signed a new agreement, but no-one told me I needed to sign a new agreement until July when I inquired. I tried to get credit for the overcharges but they would only credit me approximately 30% of the overcharges. I canceled the maintenance agreement and will cancel the monitoring agreement as soon as it expires. I will never do business with ADT again, they have very poor customer service and management doesn't do the right thing when given the option.

When my contract with ADT expired, I contacted the company to disconnect my service, which they did, but they continued taking the monthly payment from my checking account. When I contacted the company, they advised that they owed me $424.23, and that they would reimburse. That was EIGHT years ago, and I haven't gotten a cent. I've contacted the company numerous times, and they give me different stories each time. They'll tell me that they sent the money to Illinois unclaimed funds- which they hadn't, I checked.
Recently, I spoke with a representative of ADT, followed up by a manager. The rep stated that she has numerous notes showing my attempts to get MY money back. The manager basically said that I was owed the money, and after a brief hold, advised that they owed me nothing. It's been 8 years!! I think I've been more than accommodating. I've also kept notes, recording dates, times, names, and the info discussed. ADT you're the thief that I need protection from.

I have had horrible experiences with ADT after the sale of my home and moving to a new location. They were supposed to do a transfer and instead have charged me a cancellation of $448. I had a 3 year contract and was in my second year, paid yearly and on time. They have been completely unwilling to revisit the issue. I and my fiance have called multiple times and they refuse or give the runaround. How hard it is it to consider it a transfer?? Now I am getting harassing credit calls because I had hoped I would get this resolved and not have to pay the cancellation. NOT the case and the check is in the mail to keep this off my credit.
Meanwhile, we were charged several hundreds to connect ADT at the new house and it was done incorrectly and kept being charged more and more to get it right. I truly hope anyone reading this reconsiders this company. They are not honest and provide no customer service whatsoever. All ADT does is MONITOR, they are not the ones putting in the system. They contract out to 3rd parties who cheat you and have you under their own contract. I would never let these people in my home and if it didn't cost me thousands to get out from under them, I would buy out my contract and go with another company. Please don't waste your time with these greedy idiots.

First of all I have lost all respect for this company. I will never recommend anyone to this company because it’s all a scam. Instead of helping someone and listening to what the customer is wanting they instead try their selling tactics so the customer pays more per month. How hard is it for a company to give the customer what they want instead of them getting a bill in the mail that is way more than what they thought they signed up for. After reading all the reviews this is a common thing that ADT does and it’s actually disgusting to think they take advantage of people the way they do.
My mother called this company to get an alarm system installed and she wanted the $27.99 a month payment that she had seen advertised. Knowing that my mom does not have a landline they never told her that the bill would be $52.99 after she repeatedly told them that she doesn’t want to spend more than the $27.99 a month. The salesperson continued to install the system even though again she kept telling them she didn’t want anything extra. She called the next day after the installation and they said she would be paying $52.99 a month. I am so disappointed in this company that they LIE to their customers and don’t LISTEN to what their customers want.
Please be very careful with ADT, I thought they were more of a respected company but I guess I was wrong. Terrible way of doing business. She canceled the contract within 24 hours and I’m sure they will try and make her pay something. If they do I will be back on to write another review to warn consumers because again that’s another rip off that this company makes money from. ADT should be disappointed the way they run their business.

We are happy with ADT. We had this system installed due to a situation that happen on July 21st 2018. Will not go into detail, but lived at this residency for 28 years and never had anything happen like it did on the above date. We feel more secure with the system and I don't get up as often at night to go out and check things out. We all assume we our safe in our house and nothing like that will ever happen, but sometimes we take things for granted. I'm saying in won't happen again, but this time we will be warned if an intruder will enter our property or buildings. We live in the country, .25 mile from main road. Thank you ADT.

I’ve had ADT service for about five months now. When I set up services I purchased additional equipment such as the shocking window sensors to say the least. During this time I asked the sales rep that was here in my home if lightning and thunder would set the sensors off, he guaranteed it wouldn’t, and stated he never heard of anyone’s sensors setting the alarm off due to weather. Well the window sensors go off all the time especially when we are not home during the lightning and thunder. The cops have came out here 3-4 times and well you’re charged for false alarms!
I called ADT today to get those sensors removed and also to get a refund since the sales rep guaranteed the weather would not make the sensors set the alarm off. ADT tells me they don’t “own” my account for another seven months, their authorized dealer does for now, and I would need to contact them for a refund. Corp cannot make such decisions on my account. That’s another thing I didn’t know, I didn’t know an authorized dealer had installed our equipment! Defender is horrible!!! So when I called to cancel, the customer service with Defender stated I couldn’t cancel because I was locked in a three year contract! The sales rep had told us it was only one year! It’s just sad and ridiculous how these sales rep lie to customers to get service! After the three years, I will never use ADT again or recommend them to anyone who needs security system service!!!

I have submitted three previous cancellation requests, which were never completed leaving my account auto debited months after. On my fourth call after being bounced around I was told they will cancel and backdate. Hopefully this will in fact be the case this time, but in the meantime for my troubles from these continual and time consuming calls I get essentially nothing. No extra money back even though I had to be billed for an entire 30 days after the initial cancellation request.
I only get the two months after that period where they continued to bill me, and if that wasn't insulting enough I get to wait 10 business days to get my money back unless I call yet again to get the funds released early. Between the irritation of being on hold after numerous calls, emails asking to Test an alarm that to my knowledge after each attempt had been disconnected, and the lack of follow through to quickly resolve their mistake I can safely say I WILL NEVER USE ADT again.

If you like money flowing freely from your account into the hands of a company that won't remotely value you as a customer, then definitely pick a security system from ADT. I signed up for installation after receiving a flyer for a discount for the first 12 months for $19.99. I was aware that after this, the price would increase and I'd be under a 36 month contract. System installed and payments were made for the equipment. I was told by installer that I'd have to pay a higher monthly price because of no landline...BUT that I'd get the difference back from ADT for the first 12 months since I was using the promotion they were offering. When asked how the difference would come back to me, he stated by check. Ok great.
Now, I'm getting that higher priced bill monthly (so there was really no promotion) with no money back from ADT for the difference...and to top it off, when I call customer service, they state that there IS no promotion for me because of the lack of the landline. I was NEVER once told this by anyone, and I spoke with at least 3 people before agreeing to the system, including a manager named Elbey (employee #**). ADT states that because I didn't cancel in the first 30 days, "We can't help you." I didn't want to cancel (at that time)! I was waiting for a check (I know, silly me) which I was told could take a few weeks (check's in the mail...oh my, I think they want their customers to feel stupid!). The thing is, the installer (from Protect Your Home) truly thinks this is how it works. I assume he's been told this by ADT? I called him back (after no check in mail) as well and he actually stated "They don't educate us much on this".
So, you have 2 companies (ADT hires out the installation) that each are telling customers something different, and when you call, ADT acts like they've NEVER heard of such a thing... "Are you sure about this?", "We don't even have an offer for $19.99", and my favorite, "The manager isn't available right now, but I'll have him/her call you back". I've never gotten a call back from ADT. It's because they absolutely DO NOT care about their customers. They are out there trying to get YOUR money. I am legitimately afraid of what will happen at the end of this contract when I try to cancel. Based on people's reviews, I have a reason to be scared (why oh why didn't I read these before purchasing from ADT?...because the reviews speak to what this company is about)!
There aren't that many companies out there that you truly cannot even call customer service for help. Trust me, it will feel like you are talking to brick wall. Do NOT call them if you have high blood pressure (or at least take your meds before you call)! This whole experience with ADT feels like a REHEARSED SCAM. And they are getting away with it, so they will keep doing it as long as they can. The only thing I know to do (other than a letter to the CEO, which I've already written) is to tell everyone to please avoid this company at ALL costs. Sadly, I picked ADT based on name alone to secure my home, and they are not at all what I thought they were. I hope I can save even one person from making the same mistake.

On the customer support end, they told me I'd get X amount of dollars worth in equipment credit, and when the installers showed up they only knew about an amount much less. That issue was resolved with free equipment. Also customer support told me my bill each month would be 27.99. It is 52.99. They failed to mention 27.99 a month was only if it was connected to a phone line which I made clear that I do not have an active one. But yet they still continued to tell me my bill would be 27.99 until after signing the 3 year contract.
On another note, we've had one issue within 3 days of our alarm being installed, it was not connecting to the local tower already. This issue was resolved on our own via phone with ADT. Despite my best proactive effort to fully understand the installation charges and equipment charges (TALKING TO INSTALLERS SUPERVISOR TWICE BEFORE ANY WORK STARTED) it was not until 5 holes were drilled into my living room wall (wallpaper) as well as a hole thru a paneled garage wall did I learn that the "additional equipment" (video cameras) that was just added to my security package (by the supervisor) - as a competitive incentive to use ADT - was not "IN ADDITION TO" the initial equipment ordered. Instead, the installer was told that the video equipment was to be "IN PLACE OF" the motion sensors. This "substitution" was not discussed or disclosed to me in my conversation with the supervisor... had it been I would not have let the installer begin the installation.
Long story short, the installer called to explain to his supervisor that the customer had a different understanding of the incentive that was provided. The supervisor declined to talk directly to me, and told the installer that all incentives had been maxed out and the substitution was the only way to complete the transaction. At that point I asked the tech to remove the control panel that he had just installed as well as the wiring that had been fished thru the wall and into the garage.
Upon his departure I asked for a Customer Service number to call regarding the damage and it was provided. After two phone calls to that service I now have an e-mail address for which to send two professional estimates (on letterhead) and pictures of the damage. So now my wife or I have to arrange to get these estimates... We both work and one of us will have to make special arrangements for this. Summary: Make sure you understand every single charge/fee for everything that you "think" you are getting, and confirm each and every piece BEFORE anything is touched in your house.

STAY AWAY FROM ADT. Very bad experience with ADT. I have been getting low battery signal for almost a week now. I set up a technician visit a week ago. AFTER the scheduled window, I was informed that technician is running behind and will be late by a couple of hours. I was staying home just for this appointment and had to leave for work. I asked them to move it to next day. This time was even worst. Technician again missed the scheduled window and was not even informed of any such delays. This time, I called ADT and expressed my concern. I was then told that technician should be here by an hour. After a 15 – 30 minutes of conversation, ADT came up to void the trip fee to make up for inconvenience caused by this experience.
Technician came in and changed batteries on my remote key system and confirmed that batteries from my wireless keypads should be changed because keypads were continuing to generate warning message, but he did not have it on the stock. So he placed an order on online and made it ship to my address and he left. To my surprise, the package I received had batteries for remote key system which he already changed when he came in. Again, I called ADT and explained the whole story. I am now being told that we need to make one more technician visit to change these batteries for which I need to pay for trip fee and battery cost. Reason I am provided is that last time, the trip was made to change only the remote batteries.
Questions I have are, why did ADT system not know that the batteries had to be changed for wireless keypad systems before the first technician visit itself? Was the first trip not set up for diagnosing and fixing all the issues? Why am I supposed to pay for ADT’s mess and waste my time by going through all these unproductive activities when the technician misplaced order? Note that I spent almost $2K-$3K on devices alone, but it is pathetic that ADT is driving me crazy just to get the batteries changed. Soon, I will definitely be moving out of them. From my experience, I warn you guys to stay away from ADT. It is not worth our money and time.

We have one panel, one wireless remote control, 3 fire alarms, and 2 carbon monoxide devices and we have to pay $1,666.32 for this. The advertisement says "Free 15 Pre-wired doors or window sensors." My house was broken into and many personal belongings stolen. The ADT alarm was set and failed on multiple levels. We paid extra for window sensors that were supposed to detect breaking glass. The window with one of these sensors, was broken, shattered and was the entry way for the intruder. The sensor failed. Then we have two motion detectors (one upstairs and one downstairs), the intruder walked right past both of these sensors and neither of the sensors detected the movement. Third, we paid additional for two cameras (one upstairs and one downstairs). These cameras failed to record the intruder. The alarm system showed the camera detected movement but the installer never completed the set up of the cameras.
When the alarm is set the camera should start recording when movement is detected, this did not happen. The alarm never went off. We came home to our alarm still being still set, yet failing to trigger at all of the above discussed events. My jewelry was stolen in addition to many sentimental items that cannot be replaced. I reported the events to ADT. They sent someone out, who confirms my system is working and has no explanation as to why it failed. After his visit, I tested the alarm system myself. I set the alarm as I do when we leave home. However, we stayed inside the house and walked the path that the intruder would have walked. The motion detectors never triggered the alarm. My husband, niece and myself stood in front of the upstairs motion detector and jumped up and down waving our arms and hands, it took nearly 3 minutes for the alarm to trigger.
A manager comes out the following week to check the system and again tells me that everything appears to be working. I explain that I tested it myself and there is an obvious issue. He tells me he will put in a ticket to escalate the problem and have it addressed. It has been a month and I have not heard anything from them. I emailed the manager over one week ago and I have not received a phone call or response. I am paying a monthly fee for a defective alarm system. I do not feel safe in my own home. I've had ADT services for 10 years at 2 locations. I absolutely love ADT Pulse System & Motion Cameras. I called & talked to sales at ADT & ordered additional ADT Pulse Motion cameras. However, 8/31/18, installer highly recommended Hikvision cameras so I took his word for it & agreed to Hikvision cameras rather than ADT Pulse cameras. WHAT A MISTAKE! Hikvision App sent me constant notifications of motion alarm with video, but motion could not be seen in the video clip. For example on 9/2/2018 from 5:08 am - 8:45 am, my iPhone received 83 Motion Alarm Notifications & this was constant until I deleted App on 9/2/18. My iPhone battery was drained continuously.
ADT is refusing to allow me to change from Hikvision cameras to ADT Pulse Cameras, even though I submitted request to cancel contract for Hikvision the day after installation & had 3 business days to change my mind. The Hikvision cameras were double the price of ADT Pulse cameras. I am 76 years old, have an inoperable brain tumor & plan to file a complaint to Federal & State Commerce Divisions & other agencies about ADT abuse of elderly, disabled, & most vulnerable.
Updated on 09/20/18: I am a long-time ADT customer but began having continual problems with ADT cameras beginning August 31, 2018. Since 8/31/2018, I've had multiple ADT camera problems with multiple hours of ADT employees being at my house. This has caused me a lot of stress. Today, ADT notified me they were cancelling my service because they can't "seem to satisfy" me with the camera problems. My camera complaints were legitimate and I pay monthly for a maintenance fee, which covers work performed by ADT to repair or fix system and camera problems. I would prefer to stay with ADT because I have a lot of money invested in their products.
I'm a senior citizen and need ADT service but ADT said they had the right to terminate my contract. I plan to have my attorney check into the contract my ADT to see if this is legitimate. All the money I have invested in ADT products since 2011 are not compatible with other security companies so I have lost a lot of money. There are State & Federal Laws to protect elderly, disabled, and most vulnerable from physical and monetary abuse. This is an example of WHY these laws are necessary.
Carolyn- Your feedback is important to our team and we're sorry to hear of your disappointment. I had been an ADT customer for 5 years prior to the situation encountered in 2017. I moved in 2017 from one rental property to another and thought I was just transferring my service from that location to the new one. Little did I know, it renewed my contract for 3 years (this was not verbally communicated or told to me by phone or the technician who came to my home). Unfortunately, because of a situation with the new house (something out of my control) I had to move out, and where I moved - I could not carry the alarm service with me.
I found out because of my cancellation (this was from a charge that they tried to run through my checking account with and final bill sent) ADT had charged me $932. Let me say this again - I was told whenever I moved, all they had to do is transfer service to whichever location I move to free of charge. They have since then sent my information to a collection agency, in demand of payment. I promise, I will never use them again, I will see to it that no one I know ever uses them again. The power of social media. I will cost them far more than $932.
Hello Cynthia - We thank you for reaching out and reporting your concerns to us, regarding premature cancellation of service.
For liability reasons, ADT does not transfer equipment from one location to another. Our internal policy stipulates that you would be required to cancel your services at the original address and obtain a new system in your new home. You would also be required to sign a new agreement with ADT. However, as a pre-existing customer, you may be eligible for discounts towards your new system. Our relocation team would calculate this amount based on your tenure at the previous location. Contingent upon all of these conditions being met, ADT would waive any termination balances you would have had at the previous location.
ADT installs security equipment at a discounted rate and bases much of our profit on the monitoring fees paid over the course of the agreement. Therefore ADT invests quite a bit into every installation completed.
This is not to say that ADT does not sympathize with your current situation, as we do. However, you would be held responsible for any remaining terms not fulfilled, for the reasoning advised above. Please be reminded that ADT automatically discounts the cost of premature cancellation by 25% on all residential accounts. This is a courtesy that you are contractually guaranteed.

In regards to previous installation and customer service. I have had my system about 8 years. The last couple of years there has been a problem and my bill kept going up and up even though newer systems are $25. I called to cancel and was promised an upgrade, a discount and a light plug in... The technician (who was wonderful- Not complaining about him) came today with no instructions on why he was servicing my house. Of course everything I was told was not accurate. (All the hardware that needed to be changed.) It turns out that the technician who installed in 8 years ago didn't finish installing the wires! The technician had to contact a co-worker to get parts and in the end was able to complete everything but the plug in... Now trying to chat with ADT about that. I get the runaround.
Update 8.25.18. I received my smart switch and had to call in to install. After 45 minutes I was told that the most recent technician DID NOT install everything I need and they need to send out a technician again!!! WOW. And these people are supposedly protecting my family. Oh and they need to call me back to set up the return technician.
Update 9.1.18. I was guaranteed that a technician would fix the problems today. The technician comes in today and informs me that his visit today is only to see if the installation was done correctly. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I was told it was not by the company. Oh and he tells me that they are sooo overworked! HE does not have the proper equipment. HE has to reschedule to come out. He gives me an attitude. I call ADT. Ask to speak to a supervisor. I get the, "I am sorry to hear that. I do not see your claim that the previous installation was not completed." Oh really you think a technician that was not prepared and did not do his job would actually write notes. The supervisor is going to check on this but I am not allowed to speak to his supervisor. WOW ADT.

The techs we got have also been fine and they have been professional. We have been very happy with ADT. The features meet our needs, too. I'd recommend them.

We received the promotional flyer in the mail offering a system that is $27.99. I called to ask about this offer and I was asked about what else I was important to me in a security system. The person on the phone let me know that I would be able to get a security system with 15 door/window sensors, a camera, keypad, remote, upgraded to the package that has the Pulse App plus $600 more in whatever equipment we needed and it included a $100 Visa gift card. I told them I do not want to pay more than the $27.99 in the promotion. They said it would not be more than $27.99. I again repeated myself and they assured me it would not be more than that promotional price.
So, I made an appointment for the following day for someone to come out and talk to me. The installer/sales rep came out and first thing he did was install a keypad. This was a little bit confusing at first but it all makes sense when the hustle begins. After he installed the keypad, he basically walked us through the house and gives a spiel about break-in statistics and asks you leading questions to get you to agree to whatever they are going to add. Typical sales tactics. For example, "statistically, the bathroom window is the 2nd most broken into area of houses" then later "wouldn't you agree that the bathroom window should be protected? Then we could put 3 sensors in there." And it never ended after that.
After the walkthrough and all the add ons we sit down and then they hit you with it. He tells us all the stuff that we wanted was over $9k and the monthly is $58 because the system has a cell signal and we can use the app. He said he is going to bring it down to $7k and "because I have good credit, they can break it into 4 payments." I told him what the representative on the phone said and he basically told me that for that we won't be getting any of that stuff from the promotion at the price they said. To use the App it has to be the $58/month package. No cameras. Those were major selling points for us and the person on the phone took advantage of that to get an installer out and hustle us.
The representative on the phone completely mislead us about the promotion and now we are dealing with an installer that is up-selling us on everything to an insane package. Still part of his tactics. So after telling him no, he then goes on and on about this is the full "Fort Knox package" and we can start reducing stuff. This went on for about 4 rounds and I told him this is not what we were expecting at all, we won't be doing anything today, we of course now know why he installed the keypad first and then went through the package. Well he kept going on to reduce the package to things that made it not even worth getting. And going and going and going on to make the sale. They don't take no for an answer. We kept insisting we wanted to think about it. But no budge from him.
In the end we gave in to a small package that is just the keypad and few sensors and monitors, no extra cost for the equipment and the monthly is $36.99. A fraction of what was offered to us on the phone and a higher monthly. And as he was installing, he STILL came back and said "hey my manager just called me and he said he will offer blah blah blah for the $58/month." It doesn't end.
I never authorized anyone to run my credit, so how did this guy know I had good enough credit to make payments on a $9k system? Well, I checked my credit report and they ran my credit without me asking. I don't even know how they got the information to run a credit report because I didn't give them my Social or any permission to run it nor did they make any suggestion that they would run it. Not really sure how legal that was.
We plan on cancelling tomorrow. There are a lot of other security services out there. Really not satisfied with the way the installer didn't stop trying to sell. Really not satisfied with the rep on the phone lying and promising more and not delivering. We did not get the features that we were looking for like the use of the app to arm/disarm and monitor the home and some more security around the house. The installer wasted 5 1/2 hours of my day that I won't get back. He could of just let us think about it like we asked several times when we said no but they wanted the sale and now they're going to have to uninstall this stuff. I have been in a sales position before and this is all a part of their training.
Hello Deanna- We're very sorry to learn of your sales and installation experience, as well as the differing details you've received regarding the true costs of the equipment/services requested.
We would be happy to review any outstanding concerns that you may have. For our review, please message us here and verify your monitored address. Thank you! ~ Tréchell

Their social media person is still making me wait until 5 Sep to prove a point.
This is the worst I have ever been treated by a company that is supposed to be providing excellent service. ALWAYS THERE is a good slogan for them because they are always here and never fixing the problem and blaming me because I want out of a contract that ADT did not honor. I could go in to how many times I've called and been given the run around by their accounts managers, the people over the phone who are rude and condescending. Still not over. I have one camera, but it hadn't been tested and I don't know how well it works. Although it's on and it's at a place where we think we need it to be, nothing has happened there. I had all new windows and doors put in my home so I needed new sensors on sliding glass doors and on new crank out windows. Mind you my had my service with you faithfully for 5 years automatically debited from my checking account. So when I need this update, I was told it would cost me $1500.00. I said no way. The ADT customer service person informed me this is the way it would be. So, I discontinued my service for a year. Original Review: I lived in Houston, Texas and used ADT security services for a townhome I owned there. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to moved to Missouri and canceled ADT services. I was sent a bill for $818 for cancellation fees and they charged it to my credit card they had on file. I reached out numerous times to get this charge taken off or reduced and never got a callback and never got a resolution. I finally disputed the charge and called ADT and spoke to a manager named Steve who said it was in the contract that they will charge me for services not delivered for the rest of the contract time period. When I explained my unforeseen circumstances, that prompted my sudden move and cancellation of services, he did not offer to remove the charges or with me.
When I asked if there is a superior I could talk to about this, he said he is the escalation manager and there is no one else at ADT I can talk to about this. This was already my 10th phone call about this issue and the company never reached out to me. I asked them to charge me up to $200 cancellation fee but $818 is a lot of money for me. The manager retorted he cannot do that and told me I should read the contract. The contract was multiple pages long and this was not told to me verbally. I think if they charge such high cancelation fees, it needs to be discussed verbally at the time a contract is offered and signed, that would be true informed consent. Expecting a customer to read the entire contract paperwork is ridiculous and is a burden on a customer.
I have so far not received any resolution from ADT and have been charged $818 as cancellation fees. I have disputed this and hope that someone from ADT will reach out to me to arrive at a mutually agreeable agreement on this issue. I am quite displeased with their customer service. All other services at my old home had to be canceled suddenly due to my change of job and drastic move to Missouri from Texas and they all worked with me except ADT. - A dissatisfied customer, Dr. Suchitra **.

We had ADT for 5 years and were happy with the service they provided. But we lost our home to flooding after Hurricane Harvey. We called ADT to help us put in a temporary system while we rebuild the house. We had personal property stolen and gun shots fired at a burglar trying to break into houses in the neighborhood. Unfortunately the service did not function because there was no power to the house.
We just switched to another company, since the HOA had negotiated a better price. We cancelled our contract with ADT. It turns ADT had put a new multi-year contract into our hands when the temporary system was installed. So when we discontinued ADT service, they sent us a bill for remaining contract period ($940) and refused multiple times to reduce or adjust the amount. ADT felt that because they e-mailed us a contract, we had ample understanding of the terms.
Don't know about others, but after Harvey we dealt with insurance companies, FEMA, SBA, City of Houston, State of Texas and many other services to try to recover and almost all the Houston merchants offered discounts or help. ADT had the worst response I have ever received and backed it up with additional excuses for their poor service response.

Deceptive practices from the beginning. Do not do business with ADT. After receiving a pamphlet in the mail saying 19.99$ for the first 12 months, and regular price thereafter for two more years I called ADT sales department. After a tedious questioning - on my part - I was transferred to the manager who assured me that I would get the 19.99$ a month for the first 12 months, then 38.99$ plus tax for the next two year, a 99$ installation fee with a 100$ gift card. The manager was pressuring to have a technician come the next for installation. I told him that I just wanted to have someone do an estimate of what could be done and at what price before I'd commit to anything in a contract. Then after the evaluation and agreed upon details of a contract I would have ADT install their equipment and start their service at the end of the month. The manager agreed.
I agreed to have the technician do an estimate two days later. The day the technician came, he had equipment in hand ready to install. I had to remind him of my phone call with the sales manager and that I wanted to make sure that I would get what ADT claimed they could provide in the publicity before any work could be started. The technician applied pressure sales tactics. I had him finally admit that he was pushed by ADT to do it. Their tactics are called "educating the customers of the Ft. Knox security protection options". I understood the man had to do his job; I listen but stuck to my guns; 19.99$ first 12 months with 38.99$ a months thereafter.
The technician spent most of the 8 hours long "installation" over the phone with his manager followed by business deal conversations with me telling me that he (the technician) would personally give me a good deal. I insisted that I did not want a good deal from him, but just what I was told over the phone two days prior. Make the story short, I signed a contract for 19.95$ for the first 12 months followed by 48.99$ a months for two more years due to some incompatibility in technology. And the contract would have to start right away and not at the end of the month as I initially agreed over the phone.
Then I received the first bill - conveniently sent after the 3 day try-out period - from ADT. 87$... not the 19.95$ plus tax a month I had signed for on the little tablet the technician had me sign. I quickly realized through ADT "customer" service that I had to call a third party company - Defender Security - I had dealt with. At no time was I told by the technician that he was from Defender Security; on the contrary, he told me he had been working for ADT for over one year. Over the phone with the Defender Security consultant, she told me that whatever I signed the day of the installation was not a contract but a mere Order Summary and that the contract stated differently.
Despite explaining to her that I had clearly signed for a 19.95$ for 12 months followed by 48.99$ for 48 months with 99$ installation fee with 100$ gift card (to compensate for installation) as seen in the Order Summary, she found a obscure reason to invalidate the agreement ADT had me sign with them. To make the story short I felt like being in the movie Idiocracy having to explain that water is good for plants while hearing someone else tell me that Brando was great because it had electrolytes. The conversation lead to being informed that the 3 day try-out period was over and that I would have to pay 75% of the amount of the 3 year contract to get out of the criminal contract.
In conclusion, this dealing with ADT was misleading - to say the least - from the beginning to the end; pressure tactics called "educating the customer", the technician telling you that he is going to "do me a favor" to make sure you get what you were told over the phone by a sales manager, to simply criminal billing practice billing higher terms than previously agreed upon.

We are on our third summer with ADT and we have the basic features. We also have the online access. During the installation, something didn’t work right, but they figured it out. We also had a few repairs at the beginning and that was handled well. If the system goes offline, we have to literally be on site to fix it, which can be a problem because we’re not here in the winter. So, we have to come down. It’s too bad that there is no way to remotely access the system when it needs to be reset. But other than that, ADT's service is fine.

Was expecting to have a system installed for the advertised price of $27.99 a month. Beware, read the very fine print. If you don’t have an old fashioned landline, we were told our bill would be 52.99 a month for a wireless system. This was the last sales pitch. After a full house walk around, discussing equipment, and explaining we actually don’t get what we thought according to mailer. It was a sales pitch from the beginning, they just want to get in the house. Our recommended system was going to cost over $1200.00. The last straw was the technician, who was a good person, got his manager on the phone to persuade us to buy the system, which we declined. Bottom line, read the fine print, you won’t get the advertised price if you don’t have a landline, which 95% of households don’t. They might have a good product, I got turned off by the twists and turns of never ending costs. IMHO.

I used to be an alarm installer/inspector and when that business closed, I heard about ADT but never thought about it. About three years ago, we've been having a lot of break-ins around here and I told my wife it was time that we put an alarm system in. I called up ADT and they came over. I was getting ads or cards in the mail saying, "Install this. Get this for this. Your panel is free," and any additional, so we added a lot more than what they offered. We needed all our windows and doors done except just a few, so we did the whole ball of wax and was done with it.
The installation team knew what they were doing. We have all our windows and doors to our underlay and we have smoke and carbon monoxide detection through ADT, which is hooked up to it in the basement and upstairs, panic buttons, and breakage. When you break a window, it's detected in the basement and in the garage. The service is great. I call in and do a test. When I had problems, they sent people out. We would open up a door and it wouldn't work and we were having problems with the detectors and stuff, so they came out and solved all my problems with no charge.

The ADT sales representative was very good. I got the package that included the alarm and fire. During the installation, my wife was there. However, I should have been there as well to tell the crew how I would have liked them to install the system as the job looked like it was done too fast. Still, the system is exactly what I wanted and it works. ADT monitors my house and I'm secure.
One time years ago, my wife went out with my son shopping. She forgot something on the stove and the fire alarm was blinking. ADT called the fire department and the fire department came here to take care of the situation. After that, thank God, I never needed them. Nevertheless, every time I call or if I call to test my alarm, everybody at ADT has been pleasant and helpful.
Overall, my experience with ADT has been very good and staying with them all these years means I’m happy with them. However, my wife who was disabled for years died from lung cancer. The bills are astronomical and I have to cut corners for cost. I’m 71 years old and already retired. ADT rate keeps going up and up all the time and they don’t have a senior discount. Although I like the company and I’m satisfied with the service, I might not be able to afford it any longer. So I was very strongly thinking that I might cancel their service because of that. Still, I strongly recommend ADT.

I want to expose ADT as being a complete shame and potentially dangerous for all home customers using a landline phone. ADT is a complete and utter sham. They don’t care about you. I’ve been a customer for over 10 years and found out by accident that my system was not being monitored for a period of over a year. Nobody from ADT every knew or cared to contact me. I became aware of a problem when discovered that there was a technical issue by accident – after setting off false-alarms, I started calling technical support and troubleshooting. Only by my own actions, not ADT I determined that my system was not being monitored.
What I discovered completely shocked me. Apparently, this is normal and my own fault. If I don’t verify my system is not active, it's my own fault not ADT. In fact, they don’t bother or care if your system works or not. In my case, I pay over $40/month in monitoring – but this doesn’t mean I’m actually being monitored- if I have a problem on my end, they LITERALLY CANNOT TELL, OR DON’T CARE TO TELL YOU and will refer you to the fineprint at the back of your contract telling you it is not their responsibility to check. I found this completely shocking and disturbing. Literally anybody can just cut the physical cord to ADT alarmed systems and nobody would know or care. For this reason, I would recommend that people avoid ADT. I was a loyal paying customer for 10 years and after numerous letters and complaints, they simply ignored me.
I challenge your investigate team to verify what I am saying. It is up to the customer to perform their own system checks. If you do not do this you are apparently on your own. 2) If you use a phone line, in my case I had a dedicated phone line - and it is cut, ADT has absolutely NO WAY of knowing you had any interruption unless you have their premium tier of monitoring service - this is beyond basic. This is outrageous - especially if their slogan is "Always There". i.e. an intruder can simply cut the phone cord and defeat any ADT system and nobody on their so called monitoring would know or care. Customer service is a complete and utter joke.
Hello Casey- We're very sorry to learn of your experience, but thank you for reporting this matter to us.
It is an unfortunate fact that there are limitations to the services we provide. ADT monitors for all received signals. Communication trouble often means that we're monitoring a system that cannot tell us something is wrong. This is why we require all customers alert us whenever there is a change/update to conditions in the home that may impact the security system, as well as test the alarm system themselves at least once a month.
While we cannot prevent trouble from occurring absolutely, we can work together to ensure that no trouble lasts for an extensive period of time. ~Tréchell

I liked the James Bond features of ADT's service package and at the time that I signed up with them, they were the only thing out there. I also didn't like their sales marketing plan and their guy was full of it. Even though I told him I wanted a trail basis, he kinda entrapped me into a two-year contract, which I was stuck with. Other than that, everything was standard during the installation and preventative maintenance. They have been professional and they're easy to get in contact with. Now, the variety and the different flavors of home security devices are saturated in the market, but going through the changes of switching to another is almost a bit of a hassle after being married for so long with ADT. So, I stayed with them. They’re a great alarm company.

We had an attempted break-in at our place, so I figured I had to do something and we started being a customer of ADT. The reps explained everything about the security system and showed us how to operate it, and the interactions that we had during the installation were good. We're more comfortable now that the security system can arm us when we’re not here and that if intruders are gonna get in, they’re gonna have to come in through the chimney. We’re satisfied with everything, so it worked out. I would tell my friends to look into ADT if they're considering getting a security provider.

The billing and tech support don't know what they are doing, and constantly transfer you. This is a US based company, it was bought out by an American. (Google it, you will find out!) The bottom line > this is the worst customer service ever.

I responded to a direct mailer with ADT name and pictures all over it for a new ADT security system. I've had the system for 6 weeks. In that time I've had 1 false alarm and now the system hasn't worked in 10 days. When the system stopped working (as evident by the illuminated triangle on the keypad) I called the 1-800 number on the Keypad and they agreed they couldn't contact the system. They contacted the local repair people and scheduled a time four days later for the repair. I would have to take half a day at work but I needed the system to be working so I agreed. They never showed up or called.
At 7:30 that night, I called the 1-800 number again and explained. They put me on hold and came back and said the tech came out and fixed the system. I asked how when they never came in the house. I also asked them to contact my system. They were not able to connect to the system. They put me on hold again and came back and said the tech called me and I reported the system fixed and working. I told them that was incorrect. No one called and no one told them it was working. They placed me on hold. When the operator came back, I was informed that I was a Defender customer and not a ADT customer and she would transfer me to them. NOT AN ADT CUSTOMER?
When the Defender staff came on the phone, he told me the tech had the wrong number but whoever he called told him they were me and the system was working so it really wasn't his fault. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THEY SAID THEY WERE ME? RIGHT! He then said the tech will be at my house on Friday between 2 and 5 pm. I said I can't be here, "I took today off for your no call no show and I can't take Friday off." His response was "What do you want me to do then?" With that attitude, I told him to come get his equipment out of my house. He said, "Can't do that. You owe us 75% of your 3 year contract." I told him I needed to speak to his supervisor and he hung up on me.
Since then, with repeated contacts with Defender and ADT I have been given the complete run around. I closed my bank account so they can't steal anymore money from me. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH ADT OR DEFENDER. THEY ARE VERY DISHONEST AND TREAT CUSTOMER VERY POORLY. Hire local, they will be responsive to you.

Purchased a home June 2017, in July 2017 I was contacted by the previous owner that ADT called them and will be charging them for “my services”. I did not have an account or prior services with ADT so I called to find out what was going on and a rep was scheduled to come out and go over the system and activate it. The rep again informed me the previous owner is right and I own the system so I have to either purchase it from ADT or activate it because it came with the house that I purchased even though I stated this was never discussed with my real estate agent nor at closing but he insisted I bought a house with he ADT system and I have to either purchase all of it or activate it for the last year of the contract the previous owner had left.
I went over everything that was installed and was told the system was outdated but will work... they messed up transferring the pulse to start with and then once they fixed that problem, the system had nothing but problems and the “new” outdoor camera, they replaced with a used one that didn’t work and finally another one that it’s a hit and miss if it picks up or goes offline. Fast forward through months of calls and problems and the alarm going off and you can’t clear it, ADT blames batteries again and changes them, they blame home remodeling that we began March 2018 in a room with NO ADT devices is the sudden problem. I purchased a ring doorbell on the last “fix” for a different camera to hopefully work to which the salesman explained there was no additional fee or change to my bill.
Wrong, not only did the bill go up with ADT but you also have to pay an additional $30-$100 per year for the ring doorbell to a second company which was also repeatedly asked beforehand and told there was NO additional fees or bill increase past the purchase and a nice surprise AFTER installation. ADT also will NOT call you or the emergency contact which was proven repeatedly... the last incident was when the fire department blocked the road for oven smoke (NO smoke detectors went off except ADT and then the pad won’t let you clear the alarms).
I called and demanded proof this time from the supervisor that the calls were made and why the panel can’t be cleared... she put me on hold after a bit of arguing that my phone was busy (it was in my hand) and calling the numbers to confirm they were active and accessible and then came back on the line immediately apologizing repeatedly because no reps bothered to call and just listed it as busy AGAIN. Resolution is I have to call EVERY time the alarm goes off for them to clear it or if I need emergency dispatched... what’s the point of a MONITORING system that I have to call and ask for help EVERY time I need it or I won’t get help because you aren’t required to call?!?!?
I am stated to more than one supervisor how I just had emergency heart surgery and have 2 special needs children so why am I expected to sprint to a panel that can’t be cleared when I physically can NOT run right now and then expected to try and calm 2 babies who panic on the alarm sound all while trying to call ADT and be on hold to request they clear the panel because it won’t clear and then request that they either not dispatch or dispatch because they won’t call. I can’t end the contract either now that my year is up because the salesman lied about the 1 yr contract being left from the previous owner, it is actually 3 years. And then I was also made aware that I was NOT required to buy the system or activate it but had 3 days to discover this and I did not, and the 6 month new owner satisfaction or money back guarantee doesn’t apply to me because the system was previously owned.
I had to call again today because the alarm went off while armed “Stay”. I ran to clear it, panel wouldn’t clear. Alarm finally shuts off after multiple attempts but the LCD panel doesn’t clear. I called ADT as I am told to do so, and get a supervisor after back and forth with the rep (of course ADT didn’t call)... she clears and checks everything and again confirms this is actually a working phone in my hand, to my ear, that I am calling and talking to her on just like every other time. She was pleasant but again no resolution other than I have to call them whenever the alarm goes off to clear it and either have emergency help dispatched to me or not dispatched. I have a heart condition that can turn fatal at any moment, a child with a neurological disorder that has hospitalized her multiple times and can turn fatal... if something happens to one of us again, yes I say again because 3 emergencies now have happened.
My other child knows he has to push one of the emergency buttons on the panel for help but we won’t actually get any help because I have to call and personally request help from a supervisor!?! He knows to call 911, but why am I REQUIRED to still have and pay for services that are not being given and I have to do your job and call?!? ADT only offers contracts and services that are misleading, bait and switch, false advertising and sales and they allow their reps to say and do anything they need to in order to make a sale.

Hello Emerson. We apologize for this concern and would love to help. We've located your account and see that it was contracted and installed through an authorized dealer, Defender Security. Also know as Protect Your Home.
When you have the services installed, adding additional features and items will impact your monthly rate. If you opted for a service plan, the system communicates via a cell-unit, having fire monitoring, and ADT Pulse will all affect your rate.
An ADT Authorized Dealer is an independently owned and operated company. They install and sell alarm equipment, but do not provide a monitoring service. They partner and contract with us to provide a monitoring service to their privately acquired customers and, in some instances, ADT purchases the contract from them after a pre-arranged set of time.
For these reasons we would need to escalate your complaints through them, as they would be the party to resolve your concerns.
You can contact Defenders directly at 1-800-689-9554 to discuss downgrading the services to reduce your monthly rate. Thank you. -Andrew

I called them to get rid of the loud/annoying sound but they were unable to do it. Now I have sold my house but am stuck with a 3 year contract and have to pay a penalty. I was within my 3 day grace period with the new company. I upgraded to ADT pulse. The first thing I noticed was I needed to sign another 3 year contract, on the contract the new equipment cost that I paid for was listed as an installation fee. I stupidly signed before reading. I didn't get too upset because I didn't think it would be an issue.
The garage controller was not working correctly and the camera was not recording motion events. ADT came out fixed the garage controller and replaced the camera. My mailbox was vandalized. The camera clips didn't show anything. I called ADT they sent a tech out. He told me their wireless cameras only recorded about 20 to 25 feet out. My mailbox is 30. He stated that I needed a wired camera with DVR. I called ADT told them what the tech recommended. I was told that was commercial grade and it would be around $1000. I told them that The system I had before I upgraded with had that capability and I was told by their loyalty department that their system matched it.
Even when ADT tech disconnected the camera that didn't tell me that theirs didn't have the same capabilities. I told them I wanted to cancel. At first I was told I was in the 30 day window but when I asked how much of the money I paid would be refunded, I was told since my system was actually a upgrade I didn't get 30 days only 3. This is my Part 2 review. I have had a constant battle with The Defenders, which is an "authorized" Dealer of ADT. What I realized a long time ago, and then again this morning is that ADT has absolutely no control over the "Authorized" Dealer regarding false advertising, fraudulent activity, and the most ridiculous customer service that I have ever been a part of.
I have had the unfortunate opportunity to speak with the Defenders several times now, and at every point they have not only flat out lied about the service but have actually told me that they have nothing to say to me, that they would love to leave me on hold all day, that the Supervisor refuses to get on the phone because essentially they have better things to do, and then finally today they transferred me around and then ultimately told me that they refuse to give me the corporate address to the Defenders so that I may request a copy of my calls to provide to an Attorney and then hung up on. Apparently, the customer service Reps/Billing Specialists/Supervisors, etc. have no last names or Employee #'s. Which is very interesting, but then again they have no main address either so I guess I should not be surprised.
I have every intention of hiring an Attorney because of all of the lies and fraudulent activity of The Defenders and ultimately ADT because the Defenders are an "authorized" dealer of ADT. I have been told by ADT that they cannot help me and I have to speak to the Defenders every time I call in, but the Defenders do not possess the ability to handle a customer service call, pull calls, or provide addresses. SO, that puts me in a pretty horrible position considering ADT passes the buck to them so clearly ADT is also incapable of handling anything. I would have considered keeping the service of ADT but I cannot be a part of a company that allows this treatment of their customers.
I would suggest that ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE that is thinking of getting ADT, or ever dealing with the "authorized" dealer the Defenders think twice because both companies have no clue what customer resolution means, how to accomplish it, how to retain a customer, or what it means to tell customers the truth about the billing/service/contract. There should be accountability for any company. Both ADT and the Defenders will just transfer you back and forth, treat you horribly and guarantee a horrible experience. BY FAR the worst two companies I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Save yourself and go with another company if you believe in effective communication and friendly customer service!

When I tried to cancel after 2 years, they managed to tack on an additional month of payment, because I did not know my secret word anymore, having given up on the service years earlier. Took me around 2 hours of phone time to finally get it cancelled after they mailed me my secret word, but the cancellation date was not from when I first starting trying to cancel, nope, they said they would have to charge me another month because they only recognized the request once they hear the magic word. You get sucked in because after to talk to someone they only tell you it's a 99 dollar installation fee plus a monthly charge. But when they're installing it you are buying every little piece of equipment that is so overpriced. It isn't funny. Then there's a 2 year contract. They really took advantage of my dad who is legally blind and try to make you feel like you need things you don't. Plus he was told there would be a camera and there wasn't unless you paid for them and then double your monthly fee. Damn. Either way you look at it you're getting ROBBED!!!

I had Brinks as my security system provider before and that was converted to ADT. So far, my experience with ADT and my interaction with their sales reps have been fine. The reps have been very professional. The original equipment that I had in my service package was provided by Brinks, then ADT upgraded everything I had. The quality of the equipment is good and I like the cameras. I live alone for three months of the year when my daughter is traveling, so I have cameras indoors and outdoors and I can access them from my phone. I've had great success with ADT and I would recommend them.

ADT is a good company. I enjoy it because the fee is good and comparable. I had it in another house in the area and I transferred it over to the house in ’07. ADT’s smart features are not hard to work with. Whenever I dealt with ADT people, they were very professional. I called them when I needed to know how to do something and they explained it to me. There was one time that I called them on the telephone to let them know that I was gonna have some lights done on my house. They thanked me and they were happy that I let them know about it. They also listen to what I am asking them. Their people are very helpful, knowledgeable and very courteous to me.
I got sick one time and I didn’t want to call my daughter. Instead, I pushed the button and the fire department was out here immediately like Johnny on the spot. They helped me to get my daughter on the phone so she could come here to see about me. And if I forgot to the turn the alarm off, they will call me immediately to make sure I’m okay. ADT is reliable. I’m trying to get my sister to change as she always has some issues with her company.

I got the package that includes the keypad with the cameras and, so far, I'm satisfied with the service. The only problem that I have sometimes is that the system goes off in the middle of the night, but ADT said that, when they're working on the tower, if it's something dealing with telephone line and bad weather, it'll go off. The problem hasn't been too bad though. ADT's customer service people also take care of me whenever I call and they've been very supportive. Recently we started experiencing a very loud alarm that would go off in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. One day I came home to the alarm ringing nonstop. I contacted ADT and they said I they were unable to send a technician because the system was not activated. They asked if I was interested in activating the system and gave me a affordable deal. They scheduled an activation day for the next day an also charge a one time fee to activate. Upon completion of our call they transferred me to their support department. We went through some troubleshooting but nothing worked. When I asked if they could send a technician they said my account was not active and there were unable therefore they couldn’t send anyone.
I asked to speak to a manager and explained my account had just been activated. She stated and since my equipment has already been installed they would not send a tech over. It was going to activated by phone. I then asked if the equipment was not properly activated by phone (since I was already experiencing issues) would they then send a tech and she said she could not confirm and that they might charge a fee. I asked to cancel the transaction because the reason for my call to begin with was to stop the alarm from ringing. The manager did not seem to care and did not hesitated to cancel the account. I was a new customer and they clearly didn’t care about my loud issue. How could I expect them to care if my life was in danger. After all this company monitors security but one simple issue for a new customer could not be resolved. I was forced to call an electrician to fix the loud noise.

I am still waiting to be contacted back by ADT a month after asking to have my contract cancelled. I've left numerous messages, did the online text communication, which is a big waste of time, text messaged the rep, left voice mails for his manager, called the 800 #. Nothing. I signed the contract and gave the required fees with the rep, Ramon, at the end of May. The tech came and tore out the equipment that had previously been installed by another company and installed ADT equipment. After he left I realized that it was a really terrible installation, wires hanging everywhere, equipment dangling, rather than securely attached to the wall, he even damaged the electrical outlet, my carpet, and the closet door will now not close properly.
I also was never given the certificate required by my homeowners insurance. There are many other issues, too many to list here involving what's on the contract and what service I actually get. After numerous days, I was finally able to speak with the manager, Chris **, and he said he would send someone to correct everything, but it would have to be after the July 4th holiday. July 4th came and went. No call to arrange for the tech visit. After over two weeks of trying to contact someone to get it all corrected, I left him a voice message to cancel the contract and have my own equipment returned. He never called me back. I texted the rep, Ramon... nothing. No one has ever returned my calls or texts.
I got online to chat with a rep and after rehashing through it all, I was told they could not help me that I'd have to contact the same people that will not return my calls. It is now August 1st and I have yet to hear from anyone. This is just another tactic they use to screw you out of being released from their bogus and worthless service contracts. They con you into signing the contract and after that you are on your own. The worst customer service on earth. They will not get another cent from me. I want them to pick up their crappy equipment and bring mine back. STAY AWAY FROM ADT. You will get scammed!!

I usually don’t write reviews but I had to share my horrible experience so that no one else go through what my fiancé and I did. I had the WORST costumer service help from ADT. Apparently when you first sign a contract, the first 3 months is with another vendor company called Defenders Protector Home, which we weren’t even told about it until I noticed that they were charging me twice than what I signed up for and called them up to find out what happened. They messed up my contract and was charging me triple on the second month and then twice on the third month.
I spoke to these 2 very disrespectful ladies name Grace with ADT (her ID was **) and Sharon with Defenders Protector Home (her ID was **). Grace was even worse than Sharon and kept talking over me and giving me attitude as if it was my fault for messing up with the contract. When the technician guy came by to my home to install the Pulse part of ADT, he told us that he couldn’t get a signal so we decided not to get it and we all agreed with it. Apparently ADT never corrected my contract and was charging me for the service that I was NOT using at all. Grace refused to help any sort of ways and instead kept threatening me that it was a recorded line and that there’s nothing else she can do about it. I’ve NEVER had an issue with home security before until this time and I should’ve known better when people were warning me not to sign up with ADT. I will NEVER sign with ADT again and will never recommend anyone.

I got the motion sensor too and if I walk in a certain area, it's gonna yell again and the alert goes to the police department after a little while. Also, the reps were very nice and polite on the phone. They don't let the alert go right into the sheriff's department right off the bat, they monitor and they'll call me. My son had ADT in San Antonio years ago, and then when I moved in with my new wife, we decided to get it. Our contract has the doors and windows alarm plus the main unit, and the equipment has been working fine. So far, we're very happy with their service. I'm online with them and I can test the system myself and I've had no trouble testing it or no trouble on the phone when I call them for whatever reason. Then when we've had new windows installed, Chris from the installation team came to the house and helped us transfer the alarm things over to the new windows. He was very good and ADT didn't charge me anything extra.
ADT has worked with me on the price too. They tried to raise my prices a couple of times, and I told them that we do basic door and window. They were advertising $28 a month on TV, but they were having me up to $41, so they changed me back to $33 and I've been there for a couple of years. I speak very highly of ADT and I recommend them to a lot of people.

I am going to say that we first called ADT to Terminate our contract on or around July 5 or 6, 2018. When I first spoke to someone, they informed me that because we had signed a 5 year contract, it was going to cost us $1464.54 (I have the invoice dated July 9, 2018), at which time, I stated that the contract I have here, dated March 28/17, is for 36 months. It is called the Supplementary Agreement, RepID: 91, that I signed on March 28, 2017. They basically told me that they have a signed contract for 5 years and not 36 months. When I asked for a copy to be emailed to us, they said it would take approximately 2-3 weeks.
Over the next few weeks, up until today, I must have spoken to different people from Montreal, Mississauga, and Calgary (where we live). I had finally gotten a gentleman from Calgary in the billing department, to whom I emailed a copy of the contract I have here, this was on July 16/18 - on July 17/18, received an answer from him, saying he had to send the copy to the Calgary Branch office to pull our file. On July 19/18 he stated that he had not heard back from branch office, they had to go to the Warehouse to get our file and it will take some time? (seriously, do you not have all of this computerized) and how far is the warehouse???
July 24/18 came along and I finally heard back from this gentleman, who had stated... and I quote from his email to us... "I have put in the request to change the termination date to MARCH 28, 2020. I also noted that the monitoring ANNUAL amount was signed for $288.00+tax. When you cancel your account, and you do receive an incorrect invoice, please call ADT and the invoice will be corrected. My notes and action request are clearly noted on your account."
So today, July 25, 2018 I call ADT and requested the billing department, where I got to speak to Marie (Calgary), who informed me that she had pulled up my file and it was dated and signed for 5 years. I explained to her what action Wayne Bertrand had taken and replied to me on July 24 via email. She would not listen to me and stated that she had no idea what Wayne had done and refused to take action. I was under the impression that Wayne had made clear on his notes on our file.
Please help. This has been going on since July 5 or 6 and we have no idea who to turn to as every time we call ADT, all they repeat is you signed for 5 year, we DO NOT have any such contract, the only one we have is the one that stated 36 months. I have asked for it to be emailed to us...we have received nothing yet.

July 23, 2018 they took another payment $58.99; I figured they would because it is not 30 days yet. But I called them last night anyways and they indicated there is no reference of me requesting to cancel. They just have my system in test forever... WTF!!! Makes no sense. I told them to remove my account off the easy payment plan. She said she would and lo and behold I get an email indicating my easy pay is due to debit on August 15, 2018 and there is nothing I need to do at this time.
I'm on month to month with this company as the contract has expired! I called my bank and cancelled the debit card on file with these people. When I first started with ADT, my nephew was selling them. I was originally in Midway, and when I moved, I got ADT down here and there was a man that came and sold me the service down here. I don’t have a lot of extras other than my security system but I’m happy with it. It makes me feel good to know that I can go to bed at night and not have to worry. Also, I love that I can set the mobile app or take it off when I’m not at home.
However, the system kept going down right after we moved in. I couldn’t set it from the remote. I thought I was setting it from the control panel but I wasn’t. ADT sent somebody out here who tinkered with it and said it had a key mobile chip in it and it needed a Verizon chip because it would pick up better. That lasted a little bit of time and the same thing started happening again. I don’t know what was going on with ADT but they had some folks on loan. There were two of them who came that day. One man told me he was from Florida and he was sent up here. He worked a couple of weeks before going back home. He found that my old house in Midway had the number and everything was still in the computer system. He went through a process and once he got that out of the system, I’ve never had any more problems with it. I would highly recommend ADT.

I have had nothing but problems with both sales staff being misleading and false promises and even worse than that the customer service is absolutely horrible. It took me over 45 minutes of being on hold to get to a cancellation dept. Then the rep was completely rude and would constantly talk over me. Finally, she proceeds to tell me that if I'm lucky it will take 30 days to process the cancellation and another 15 days to send a confirmation and I would still be billed for this.
I thought this was absurd so I told her so, and that is when she started yelling at me. So I let her talk and told her that she is very rude and that I wish to talk to a supervisor. She then put me on hold for another 10 minutes and then came back and said that the supervisor wants her to process the cancellation first. So I went along with it and then asked her to now send me to the supervisor. She told me to hold on and send me to some mailbox. As I said earlier I have their service at both my home and business. You can be assured that I will be canceling the business one as well, as soon as I find a replacement.

They partner and contract with us to provide a monitoring service to their privately acquired customers and, in some instances, ADT purchases the contract from them after a pre-arranged set of time.
For these reasons we would need to escalate your complaints through them, as they would be the party to resolve your concerns.
I will be forwarding your complaint to Defender's upper management but, should you need to reach out to them directly, their number is 1-800-689-9554. Thank you. -Andrew

I was working nights and my wife was home alone, so I decided to get security about 20 years ago. I bought Brinks Security and then it changed to somebody else, and, finally, it ended up being acquired and ADT took over. I have an alarm and it has two doors and a sliding glass door included in the service package. I've had the same product for 25 years.
However, I've gotten phone calls from the reps saying that my box didn't send an automatic signal monthly and I'm surprised because it's at least 25 years old. I keep calling and I get the customer service, and they always leave a voicemail. Thereafter, I got a voicemail saying that they can get my test. I said that because mine is so old, it doesn't send a test, so I have to manually send one. I always tell them that I would like to upgrade and that I shouldn't have to cancel my package to get a new package that has all the bells and whistles. However, they keep saying that it's not their department. It sounds like in order to get a good price, I would have to cancel and start over.
In terms of coming in and updating anything or adding anything, I have to cancel then re-add them. I would like to have a whole new system because they keep advertising. I get these coupons every month saying that I can get all the new products and all the bells and whistles and that it's cheaper when I'm paying monthly. When I told the service person about this, they said that I can't just upgrade it and that I would have to be a new customer to get that package. Nevertheless, the alarm works if somebody opens the door when the alarm is on. It's set and it will go off and send a signal. That has worked and it has happened a few times when my wife has set the alarm. The people have called right away and have been courteous. If someone were to ask me, I would tell them to get ADT and if they start from scratch, they will get a better deal than what I have.
Hello Dennis - We thank you for reporting your concerns to us. Please be advised that, if you wish to obtain a new security system, you do not have to cancel and start over. It is true that you would no longer be grandfathered into the same terms you had with Broadview, as a new agreement would be required. You may call us at 1-888-211-8563 to request a system conversion. ~Tréchell

My experience with ADT has been good. Every time I needed them or every time a false alarm went off, they called me up and explained what happened when we were testing the system. Now every time I had to call them, I got a quick response and they answer, and whatever the situation was was remedied right away. And since we've had ADT, we only had the technician come out twice. And we just had some new windows and a new door installed, and they came out to get the sensors in place and check out the system.

I called ADT and paid 100 dollars for the consult. They came out and had a big upsale. They wired the system into the wall. When it came to service it was over twice as much as I was quoted over 1600 dollars in equipment. The Technician was very informative negotiated and was helpful. But in the end I chose not to use their service.
In the end I was told I would get a refund. It has been over a week I have not been refunded on my credit card. I was told I would be called by loyalty department about the hole in the wall in my new house I just moved into. I keep getting the runaround. They are rude on the phone. I had to call them back and finally been told that I have to get quotes from 2 general contractors and submit that to them in a fax with a picture. Then will pick which one and pay them to fix my wall. This is taking forever. I was not a fan of ADT before but now I will never be a customer. Just a bad experience with their subcontractor Home Defenders in Houston Area.

I used ADT service for 3 years and had (3) false alarms which I had to pay police monitoring service every time. These false alarm had been within last 6 month of ADT service. Once I decided to change ADT service to other competitor because of price, quality of service and quality of customer service. I got a hard time to cancel my service. It tooked me more than 2 months to get out of service and received my refund back from last month service. Customer service for accounting is not polite and is not willing to help you at all. I talked to one of customer service on 7/6 and receive email for confirmation that I will received my refund back as this amount. During phone call, I should receive my refund back by 7/13.
Today 7/20 I did not receive anything and I called back to customer service (Accounting department) and tried to refer to that representative that I talked and sent me email last time. New representative told me that ADT could not transfer to that person due to company rule. I told her situation. She told me that she looked into note in system. My refund will be back to me 30 days from that call on 7/6 and the amount of refund is not match email that I received. I told her that. She started making her noise louder. That's is very bad bad customer service and does not pay attention to customer.
I think ADT might treat old customer or customer requesting cancellation differently. It is shame to big home security company like this. The end she ended up to told me that she did not anything about email and this was ADT handled this. The refund will back to me on 8/6. Let see if I could receive my refund on 8/6 that I doubted. Note I received email from Quinn ** (ADT Representative) on 7/6. First call for cancellation was on 6/8. Currently call on 7/20 with bad bad bad representative (do not remember name).

ADT came and uninstalled my currently working Guardian system, then threw the sales pitch which was supposed to be $27.99 per month and in reality was $48.99 per month. So I abandoned the install and the installer couldn't reinstall the Guardian keypad. Wires left hanging everywhere and the equipment is very hot. ADT will not pay for the reinstall of the equipment and said they are not required to do so. Many phone calls and many lies from the top down. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

We rented a home that already had an ADT system installed and decided to give them a call to see if they would offer month to month since we were only going to be living at that address for 1 year. We were told not only by the online representative, but also the tech who came out and actually sold us on signing up, that there was no contract since we didn't need to install a new system. Fast forward a year, and in the process of moving. We are now being told that we are in a 3 year contract and would have to pay $959 to buy ourselves out of the contract. They only offered a new system for the house we are moving to, which would include more money and another 3 year contract. I wouldn't wish ADT on my worst enemy. Do not recommend them at all.
Hello Curtis. Thank you for reaching out and we apologize for this experience. If you have anything in writing from your sales rep or installer advising you were to be on a month to month contract please advise. Otherwise, all of our contracts are 3 years standard (2 for some who reside in California). The terms and conditions of the contract are provided on the first page that you signed and all customers are also given 3 business days to review the agreement and cancel without any early termination if they are not satisfied. As a courtesy, ADT can waive 50% of the final balance once the services are canceled. Also, if new owners/ tenants sign a new contract for this location after you've moved, this will release you from an existing contract as well. If you need a copy of your contract to review, it can be obtained via MyADT.com or by calling us at 1-800-238-2727. Thank you. -Andrew

I received an ad from ADT security offering 850.00 worth of free equipment with the purchase of alarm monitoring service. The ad further states plus these free bonus offers too! Free 100.00 Visa card. Free 15 doors or windows sensors a 645.00 value, free remote control with panic button a 129.00 value, free digital camera when you upgrade to ADT pulse +video 229.00 value.
I called the phone # listed in the ad 866-260-5320. The rep who answered the phone asked if I have a home phone. I advised no! She advised the 27.99 per month wouldn’t be applicable to me as that is a dial up for landlines. She further advised I needed a wireless system. For a wireless system the cost wouldn’t be 27.99, it would be 49.99 with a 3 year alarm monitoring contract and 99.00 installation fee. She further advised, she would add a 2nd camera and 2nd wireless remote control keychain to the package if I would sign up. I had her repeat all the items I would get, contract length, monthly monitoring fee and installation cost to me. She did. She then got her manager on the phone who also repeated everything to me. They told me the call was recorded. I agreed to sign up at this point.
An appointment was set for installation on the next day 7/11/18. The tech came out and proceeded to look around the property then he made a recommendation. I advised I just wanted what was advertised and sold to me on 7/10/18. He installed the 15 doors and window sensors and 1 motion detector. He advised he would have to return to install the cameras as my Internet wasn’t up. The tech also sold me 2 carbon monitors at 229.00 each. A total of 458.00. I was aware this charge was in addition to the advertised equipment so I was prepared to pay an additional 458.00. After the tech finished the installation he handed me his iPod and asked me to sign. I asked him what for. He advised for the equipment he just installed in my house. Like an idiot I trusted him as he was very nice. I signed.
He was rushing to his next appointment so he left after he got my signature. Later I saw an email from ADT with an attachment. It was a list of items installed. 2 vanishing sensors 149.00 each a total of 298.00, 13 shock sensors 149.00 each for a total of 1937.00, 1 smoke detector 129.00 and the 2 carbon detectors for the 458.00. He then applied a 645.00 discount. Bottom line the bill was now $1981.00 plus the 99.00 installation fee.
I called ADT Defender customer service the next morning. I was advised I fgot the shock sensors instead of the regular ones. I asked her what was the cost of the regular ones. She advised 129.00. I advised the ones I got are listed as 149.00 each so that’s only 20.00 difference in each. The difference would only be 15x20 =300.00 plus carbon detectors as no smoke detector was installed. So how did they come up with $1981? She transferred me to a manager who removed 890.00 from the bill. On 7/18/18 the tech came back to install the cameras. First he asked if he left a camera with me. I advised he didn’t. I asked him where he installed the smoke detector as I couldn’t find it. He advised he didn’t install one he just listed it as he is giving me 2 cameras but he would back it out.
As the tech started preparing the cameras for installation he asked if I was aware there would be a 299.99 installation cost? I advised no. The only cost that was mentioned is the $99 installation fee when I signed up verbally according to the advertisement I received. He restated I had to pay an additional 299.00 for installation of the cameras. I refused. He called into his manager and advised me, they can give me a visa gift card for 300.00. I refused it as I agreed to a 99.00 installation fee that I paid and didn’t want to pay an additional 299.00. I told the rep to leave the cameras uninstalled, but leave them with me.
He advised he couldn’t as they weren’t part of the contract. I called 800-689-9554 and spoke to Phyllis. She pretty much said if I didn’t like what was done I can cancel my contract and pay ADT 75% of the contract. I became alarmed as I wasn’t presented with an actual contract. I reviewed the email the tech sent me on July 11th after I signed what I thought was for equipment installed. There was an attached contract not for 3 years, but one that ends in December of 2022. That’s 4.5 years. Apparently when I signed what I thought was the equipment installed it also populated other documents. There are initialed items also in this contract that I never initialed as I never saw or was told or discussed a contract with the tech.
I cannot believe a company like ADT would do this to a senior citizen. The cameras were not added to the contract. The tech lied to me when I asked him why the cameras were not listed on the equipment list he asked me to sign? He advised they were not listed because they were not installed. That was a lie as that list was the actual contract disguised. He never added the cameras as he planned to charge 299.00. If he added them, with the 299.09 fee I would have disputed it and realized there was a 4.5 years contract. So he waited for the 3 days to pass for the contract to be enforceable. Once it was ironclad the rest was disclosed. This has to be resolved by ADT.

After this a year has passed alarm was never connected and I get my bills every month, never was I called for a followup or to ask why my alarm was not connected again but bill would come for sure. When called to cancel service never a question on my unsatisfaction. If this company is giving a service of security I would at least expect a call on activating my alarm again before a year passed. On April 23, I received a verbal quotation from an ADT sales representative, Mr. Francesco **, and subsequently received an email copy of the service contract. The quotation for installation in the service contract was $151.77 plus tax, which was higher than the verbal quotation of $134 plus tax given to me. I called and was told that I would be compensated by one month of service free of charge. Installation took place on May 1.
On May 18, I received four invoices and was surprised not only by the fact that I was not given one month of free service, but also by the installation charge of $401.77 plus tax. I called numerous times, on May 22, 28, and 30, to lodge my complaint, to no avail. Having received no response, I sent a letter of complaint to its Hamilton Office on June 11 by registered mail. Again, I received no response to my letter. So I made another rounds of calls, on June 25, July 3 and July 9. I also wrote to the Customer Relations.
The receptionists of my last two calls informed that my case was in the hands of the sales representative and that they will ask/have emailed Mr. Francesco **, to call me. As of to date, July 17, I received no call from Mr. **. In the meantime despite the fact that I have sent two cheques for the monitoring service for May and June, I received a reminder for payment of $778.25 (a surcharge of $145.74 over the original invoices of $632.51) from its Montreal Office. I have sent another registered letter, this time to the Montreal Office enclosing a cheque for service in July. The letter was copied to the Administration at Hamilton. Hope I have better luck in terms of response in the coming days.

Then when I told them I cannot trust this company they agree to give me everything free. I refused to have them as my security company. Next day when I checked my American Express card there was two chargers for $107.06 and $52.99. Do yourself a favor and stay away. ADT does not inform you that they are setting you up through a third party. I was planning to sell my home soon and asked about that before installing. I was told that As long as the new homeowner set up a system the services would just transfer with no penalties to me. However, when it came time for that their story changed. Apparently, ADT sells back your contract to SafeStreets when you cancel and SafeStreets is a shady company with nothing but bad reviews. They are trying to charge me 1000 dollars even though the new homeowner set up services.

They scammed me. They were completely dishonest. I ended up with a five year contract I did not want. I complained to head office but they did nothing and referred me back to the dishonest broker. What bothers me most is that this was their idea of an upgrade after I have been dealing with them for ten years. Think about using another company and do your own research.

I called ADT after receiving brochure in the mail. What transpired since that time I wish on no one. The sales dept gave information and pricing. This was very impressive to say the least. I documented what I was told and good thing I did! Was told- over 20% savings on homeowners insurance (reality $11.08 "savings"/yr); $100 Visa gift card (not told about $4.95 processing fee) and should arrive in 7-10 days (later told can take 4-6 weeks). VISA debit card wouldn't be charge (no security code was asked for nor given) but was charged in a matter of days (how would ADT know for a FACT I would select their service?); $1882 in equipment to be provided (actually $1682 per contract. Installer stated he was given $1682 amt); employee discount rate of $27.99 could be given (was not told this would void the warranty-did not go with this after information of warranty was given).
First bill had the rate of $54.99 (credit given later- was deducted from bank acct before due date); bill due 8/2/2018 was deducted 7/11/2018 (lost interest on money but ADT made money). Equipment charged to incorrect credit card (was told was security dept's error) and would reverse in a "few days" (otherwise could take 30 days to refund money). I feel as though misleading information, or lack of information, by sales personnel proves they will say ANYTHING for a sale. To date there has not been an apology from ADT for this! There is a 3 day cancellation clause in contract but it takes at least 3 days for ADT to show how they do things and then the consumer is stuck, or buy the contract.

I had a 2 yr ADT contract; canceling after about 16 months (8 months left) due to relocation - am moving to a different city to live in an apartment (as opposed to a single family home). So canceling ADT rather than transferring. Canceling is a nightmare. They will do all in their power to delaaay it - take one more month's fee and to see if you end up changing your mind - yes, some really cheap tricks in play here. If you do decide to transfer ADT service to your new place, here is the deal - yes they will transfer it, but then you will start a NEW 2 year contract again. You move again in six months - they'll transfer again, no problem, but then you will start a NEW 2 year contract again. See?? It's hard get rid of them, not without paying the 75% fee (75% of the remaining contract fee. I have a 8 months left, so it is 75% of $52 * 8).
- no email confirmation of the cancellation
- they want to send me a mail to my home address within next fooour to siiix weeks. I have to read and discover how I can pay to close this. This looks so lame! You want 75% of the fee - take it, I will pay today... just shut it down NOW. Why all this drama and all the delay??? Want one more month's fee? Sure take it... make it part of your contract... take it NOW... why waste my time? Take money, take all 100% of the remaining fee if you want - just shut it down today. Why waste people's time??? I will never ever sign up with ADT service.
