I have always gotten advertisements from ADT in the mail and they were the first ones that popped in my head when I started thinking about home security. I felt really good going through the process with their reps. When I initially talked to them on the phone, they had given me a pretty specific price. Then when he first got to the house, the price had changed significantly and it went way up. By the end of it, we got it back down. They could be better at being very clear on the cost upfront. The installation was easygoing. The contractor explained everything. He was very nice and professional.

I’d seen ADT's advertisements and driving around, I'd seen the different types of signs that they’ve got in people’s yards. I knew of the company, so I signed up with them. My experience with their sales reps was great and they were very thorough in what they discussed with me whenever it comes to the products available. Then, the installers came out, installed the stuff, and we went over different types of products and services that they offered. So far, we love the performance of the system.

ADT is a well-known brand. It’s been around for a while so we’re kinda paying for that reliability. However, it is a little bit pricey compared to a lot of other places, especially nowadays. I’m not sure if every home security system has a touchscreen control panel, but maybe would’ve been good. I’m also not too sure if ADT has an anti-smash protection kind of thing where if someone were to smash the control panel, it would still be able to send a signal or work somehow. There could be improvement here and there, but overall, it’s pretty good. I like the security feature and the sign. If I have to rate it on a scale of 10, it's 7.5 to 8. It's above average.

I called Protect Your Home for my mother-in-law for her house, and I explained to the agent what was happening. He told me there would be no problems. They just needed me to sign up so they could send the techs over there. But then when the tech got over there he said, “We’d be able to change name towards your mother-in-law.” I didn’t have her credit card at the time when I called it in.
So, I told him, “Okay. So, everything’s gonna go towards my mother-in-law and then I’ll get my money back?” He said, “It’d go back to your account. And then we’re just gonna charge your mother-in-law" because I told him I don’t want my name on it and I don’t wanna be charged for it. He said, “There’s no problem. We’ll take care of that." It didn’t happen. The account is under my name and so, every time there’s a problem, I get called for it and my mother-in-law doesn’t. She wants everything under her name. I’ve been following up because I had to call to get my $100 back too. When I talked to somebody, they told me, “Well, can’t your mother-in-law just give you the money?” I said, "She’s supposed to get a free Visa card. I don’t want the Visa card. That’s for her. I want everything under her name."
I love having Protect Your Home. They are very good. Any time I call, I get an appointment and the techs are at the house. Everything’s been fine except for my name. She wants her name on that account. Other than that, the installer was good. He explained everything. We live out in the country, and he explained to us that the quality of our cameras depends on the speed of our internet. We had techs come out and checked our internet and they said our internet’s kinda weak, so we already knew that.
Everything’s working fine. We just had some problem with the doorbell ringer. For some reason, the doorbell keeps coming off. It would go off at 8:00 PM and then again at 9:00 PM. And then the next couple of times, it would go off at 5:00 AM. My mother-in-law got used to it. She doesn’t have any problem with it. But my sister-in-law stays with her sometimes, and it kinda scared her a little bit. We called a tech, and he came over and he changed it.

An attempted break-in happened on a Saturday and I was upset about it. My granddaughter told me to call someone right away. I called ADT that Monday and the interaction with the rep went well. The technician came out and put the system in. It was professionally done. All in all, I'm satisfied.

ADT is pretty prominent everywhere and I’ve always kinda kept them in mind. I’m a first-time homeowner so I gave it a shot. The sales guy was upfront and honest. He did a great job. The installation went good. I wish I would've had my Wi-Fi hooked up because I wanted to get the camera, but it wasn’t hooked up. I just got the things on the doors and the windows that set off if the alarm would've been set. But overall, the system has gone really well. I feel very secure having it.

ADT sounded like a good brand and I've heard it before in commercials. However, sending someone to your house in a regular crappy car that didn't have anything on it that said ADT was super unprofessional. It was weird. The guy came up and kinda looked really sloppy. He was in a car that didn't have a rim on the tire. I thought it was a scam and someone was trying to come into my house. It kinda worried me and I almost canceled my business because of it. The technician's professionalism and courteousness could have been better. I'm only 30 and I look like I'm 16. I kind of felt like I was taken advantage of a little bit. Having the system makes me and my family feel safe. I like it. It works really well and it's user-friendly. It has been a good experience.

ADT was quite famous. When you think about home security, that's the first one that comes to mind. The rep from Protect Your Home was extremely friendly, customer oriented, very patient, and had a lot of time to answer questions that I had. However, there were not honest responses that I got from her, which I didn't find out until later. As far as phone etiquette, she was quite impressive.
The first installer was great and good at talking. He answered some questions quite honestly that the rep was very misleading about as far as what would be included. The one problem I had was him trying to get through to the connection of whoever he needed to call to get authorization. It was like a nightmare here in my home from 3:00 until close to 8:00 PM with all the installation. But the bulk of the time was taken up with him trying to get a service rep to assist him with completing the installation, which ran until darkness. This was new for me, so I was looking for someone to suggest to me where the placement of cameras should go and what I needed. He was very courteous, but he left holes and damage to my house. I could tell he was frustrated because he couldn't get through to the people he needed.
I liked the second guy that came out because after I told him what I wanted, he pointed out that the front camera was placed in the wrong positioning. I said, “I can't see who's at the front door.” So, the way the first installer placed it was of no benefit. The second guy said, “I'm going to move a few places. You look at it and you tell me if this is a view that will benefit you.” He moved it to the entire other end of the house, which was totally off what the first guy did. Also, he did his best to fill in the holes with what the first guy did. It's kind of shoddy because it doesn't match. It’s just kind of clear something just to clog up the hole so that bugs and bees could not get in. But he didn't leave until I was satisfied with the positioning. I like the system, but I felt like a senior that was taken advantage of. I wouldn't recommend ADT.

The ADT salesperson on the phone was touting the insurance discount. He said that I'd get a $12 a month for whatever discount on the insurance, it would add up. But when I called my insurance, they said that I was already at the lowest so there was really no discount on the home. The lower your insurance, it affects your monthly home payments. So I was interested in it but it didn't help. We just installed it and I had no problem with the technician who came out to install it. I was gonna ask ADT if they could lower it because I was under the impression that they were backed by my insurance company but it turned out that there were no discounts available.
Hello Joanna. We apologize for your experience. Any discount offered by a customers home insurance agency would be at their discretion and the amounts may vary as well. We would not be able to offer a lower rate as a result of this concern.

I got ADT because of the flyer that came in the mail and my aunt also recommended them. But now that I’ve gotten the service the flyer is misleading because the original starting price was supposed to be 27.99. I didn’t see anything offered for 27.99. I was told that it was gonna be 40 something and up. And also the flyer tells that I'm gonna get the alarm itself, the sensors for the front and backdoor and it also said that I'm gonna get a remote control. And I did get a remote control and a doorbell camera. I was also supposed to get a surveillance camera.
I had expressed over the phone when I first called them that I wanted all my windows to get sensors, but I was told that ADT did a survey of some type and found that there was no need to put a sensor on all my windows because what they offered now would be one sensor that detects glass breaking. But the key to getting the surveillance camera and the doorbell camera was there was an extra charge of $299. I left one system going to a new system. The system that I left from had given me a smoke detector so I asked them about getting the smoke detector. So, the bottom line is, by the time I got the things that I need with ADT my bill was up to 1000 and something dollars.
I also didn’t want to have that glass breaking sensor because I told the tech, “Well, if I’m in the house washing dishes and I have to drop something, or somebody drops something and it sounds like glass my alarm is gonna go off.” And he said, “Yes.” And he said, “But you can just turn it right off. The police won’t be coming because if you turn it off immediately, you won’t have any problems.” I said, "I like the idea of having the sensors on my windows itself. Whichever window they’re gonna try to attempt to come through, the system will let me know which window it was.”
I was more comfortable with having the sensors on each window so I had to pay for that. By the time I finished my bill was not 27.99. My monthly payment is 53 something. In the last two weeks, they’ve also had flyers coming in through the weekly circular for the markets. Now, they’re offering the 12 sensors for your windows. I was like, “I couldn’t get them.” I had to pay for mine. I was gonna call them and then say to them, “I think you owe me a refund. Because it’s been less than a month and you’re now advertising those 12 sensors. And when I got mine, I was told they weren’t being offered.”
Now, the tech himself did a beautiful job. He did exactly what was meant for him to do because he came out with the listing of what I was supposed to get based on my initial call-in. He had to call back to the main office to find out if I qualify. And he also found out if he could give me some discounts because I turned down the surveillance camera and the doorbell camera. And because it was already offered on the flyer that I had, he said he had to call the office to see if they can give me a discount for one of the sensors that I wanted to put on my window. That’s how my bill got lowered because he called in, and they offered a discount because I was removing the two cameras from my package. But I ended up paying 400 and something dollars originally. I also called them back a week later because I found out that they had given me the main box downstairs.
I had a relative that came over that had access to my house and that particular day I was upstairs washing my hair and I had the blow dryer on. I didn’t know anyone had come into the house, and I had the alarm on. So he yelled up the steps and called me. When I heard him, I said, “Oh, my goodness. Somebody’s in the house.” So, I turned my hairdryer off, and I recognized the voice. It bothered me that I was in the house with the blow dryer running and didn’t hear the alarm. But I was able to disarm it before the police came.
I remembered that with my old system there was also a sensor put upstairs, which means that when I’m upstairs I can hear the alarm from upstairs. So, I had to call ADT back to see if they offered that particular sensor. And they did, but I had to pay for it. That cost me 100 and something dollars. So the tech came back and installed it upstairs. So now when anyone opens any door or any window within the house it’d be heard upstairs even if you have the TV on, or if you’re in the shower.

The sales was good. It was easy. The corona thing was big at the time, so they made sure they got through all that. But all my sensors keep falling off my doors. So I don’t really use it. It's turned off. But their reps were awesome. I called once for the first sensor and they right away sent me out another sensor. But then it kept happening.

We have a duplex and it was broken into. We had ADT in one of our houses before, so I called them. Also, I was told that I could change it into the tenant’s name. The rep said all I have to do is wait a month, call back, and say I want to switch it to our tenant's name. But when I called back, somebody said we can't change it into anyone else’s name. But the communication was very good. I wasn't too concerned about changing the name until I had to call back. I called back because some people tried to break in again and broke the sensors off the door and Protect Your Home replaced the sensor.

When I was getting my internet, the internet people told me that I won a prize, but then they never told me how much it was going to cost me monthly. The rep was nice and helpful and he told me what kind of package I was going to get, but I wish he was a little more truthful and told me how much everything was going to be once we first started. I was thinking I was the winner of a prize, but I had to pay for it. I didn't like that he didn't tell us and I got really mad about it. I was going to cancel everything, but I had to think about it. I have kids, and I wanted to make sure the house is secure. I decided to stay and what I wanted was $800, lifetime, but when you want to add some more stuff to the system, it costs a little more. Still, everything went smooth with the installation and I like the system. Everything was in there, so it was worth it.

I was given a remote when I had ADT installed and the tech said that even if I’m in my room and if I wanna secure my house, I could just pull it down and the security will be active. And if I wanna take it out, I can do it on the remote rather than put my code on the monitor itself. It was at night and I pressed the button of the security phone to stay at home but I don’t think that worked because my cousin opened the door in the morning and nothing happened. I didn’t understand. I was even gonna call because I didn’t wanna try it because I didn’t wanna put any alarms or anything.
I was with Xfinity but I felt the security wasn’t tight enough. It would alert me that somebody opened the door but the only thing was that they would not call to know what happened. But with ADT, the alarm didn’t even go off, so how would they call me when my alarm is not even working? Also, I don't know what's going on with my money that they said they were gonna send back as a gift card. I called them and they told me I have to call some kind of company and that it was a company that was gonna do it. I tried to do that, too, but it wasn’t working. Right now, I’m not satisfied.

I used ADT previously in a couple of rental properties that I have and they met my expectations. Having had a previous experience, I opted to go with them. They handled my questions well and were received professionally via phone. When the tech came out to make a presentation, I was obsessed of doing the installation of it from that same day because we were impressed with how he presented it. Even though there was a presentation made, I didn’t feel overwhelmed or pressured to buy. It wasn’t like the procedure of a used car salesman who would push you. He mentioned that if I wanted to think about it, they would come back later.

I like Protect Your Home's quick response. The only thing is on the phone, I was told my monthly rate is $27.99 but it came almost double. I pay 53.99 now. The process to get the service and to install it was pretty efficient. From the time we made the decision to the time installation, it was just about a week. The technician who install the system is very good, and I'm really happy with him. The only disappointment is the price, but we went along. I’m happy with the service. Service is good, but be aware of the price. You won’t get what you were told.

I’m not happy with ADT. I was happy at first. They told me that my bill would be $27.08 but they did not tell me that I needed a landline. Their rep came in and did all the stuff that he was supposed to do. After I had signed the papers and I said, “So, it’s 27.08, right,” he said, “No, it’s 50 something.” I said, “Why?” He said, “It’s 27 if you get a landline.” For me to get a landline, the cable company wants to take my contract away and we’ll do a new contract, and my bill is gonna go up $45. Then I’d be under another contract and I don’t want another contract. He should have told me the price without the phone line before I signed the papers.
I now have a contract and I’m paying about $50. I wasn’t looking for that. I would’ve just went to SimpliSafe and got my own stuff but it was 27.08 with ADT that was why I’d take it. I told the rep, “That’s how y’all get people in contract. Y’all rip people off. You don’t tell people ahead of time. You got the price on there that we think we’re gonna get. Then you come in and say, ‘Oh, you need a phone line to do it.’ And you install the stuff first before you even do paperwork.” That’s not right. I’m gonna call the Better Business Bureau and tell them that that’s what they’ve been doing. They’re doing it to everybody. New people get locked in to their contract because they didn’t tell them ahead of time, “No, it’s not 27.08 unless you got a home phone.” People don’t have home phones anymore. We got cellphones.
I was complaining to a friend of mine and she’s partially blind, and she said, “Oh, yeah. I’m in a contract with $50 something and they didn’t tell me. They installed the stuff and they telling me I had a different price.” She also said, “Every time I call there, they transfer me to somebody else, so I just go ahead and pay it.” It’s a nice system but they don’t give people the chance to say, “Never mind ‘cause it cost too much.” I’m telling everybody to not to go to ADT. I’m scared to even call them because I misplaced the key fob and they’ll try to charge me $100 something for it. They tick me off.
Hello Carol- Thank you for choosing ADT to protect your home. We are sorry to hear of the experience that you had. The agreement is sent to you with the terms and conditions by email. If you are in need of a new keyfob, please reach out to our technical support team at 1-800-238-2727.

Working with ADT's sales rep went well and it was informative for me. The rep mentioned what was available with the package I inquired about. However, I wish there was more breaking down of what product installation would entail, whether I needed to have Wi-Fi beforehand and what the associated costs would be. I felt blindsided by all that.
The installation went fine and their tech put in motion sensors on our window and doors. He gave me a brief explanation of how to arm and disarm the system. But then, he didn't give me a full breakdown of all of the capabilities of my system. I wish it was automated as there is a lot about it to remember and deal with. Protect Your Home made me think I was getting a good deal which I had when I lived in Lancaster. It didn't cost me anything to get the system installed there and it was affordable. I really was just gonna have my service transfer. They should be upfront about the fee. But they made it seem like I was getting this fantastic service and I went with ADT. But if I have to do it over again, I won't do it with them.
When Protect Your Home came to install, it was a whole different issue. They wanted almost $4,000 and I told them that I wasn't going to pay $4,000 for the equipment. I ended up paying about 1200. When the guy installed it, he fried my doorbell 'cause I got the doorbell camera. I spoke to the rep from Protect Your Home, she said that they would send somebody out to fix it. I told them not to send the same guy 'cause he obviously didn't know how to fix it and I didn't need him burning down my house if he was out here. So, she sent another guy who told me that he couldn't fix it either. He said that I'd need an electrician.
I had to call an electrician to fix it and it was almost a month later before I could get the electrician here. I decided to cancel it because the electrician was gonna charge me almost $1300 to rewire the doorbell. The guys from Protect Your Home came out on the 13th and took some of the equipment. The supervisor and the installer said they would refund me the money and they called somebody. It was then verified that I was going to keep the service and that they were gonna give me a refund, but they were gonna take back some of their equipment. They took back the tablet, which I didn't need 'cause I had my phone. I've called twice about the refund and I still haven't received a refund. I finally have a doorbell but it's not by the ADT. It was by the electrician. I now also have the wall monitor, a motion detector, one carbon monoxide alarm, and one fire alarm.

I did a new home purchase and I was looking for an alarm system company. I went with ADT because of its brand name recognition. I hate the quality of the system though. We got sensors in the basement that are supposed to detect a certain level of cold that becomes dangerous to pipes. We've had the pipes freeze two times, and it has never gone off once. So, it's been a complete surprise. It was completely useless. The fire alarm goes off. If you cook a burger like 30 seconds too long, the fire alarm goes off on all three floors. Now, you might be able to silence it. But originally, you couldn't silence it. And if you didn't answer your phone fast enough, they sent the fire department to your house, which I think is good to a degree. But the problem is that we've had the fire department here a couple times and they said, “Oh, we gotta come into your house and just make sure.”
Every time the alarm goes off, I dash for my phone so I can intercept the call. A couple times in the past year, ADT didn't even call us. It's like, “Okay, if the house was on fire, is it like a 50-50 chance you guys call us or that the fire department's gonna come? How's that work?” The first time the pipe froze, we called about the cold thing, and they said, “You know what? It's probably the location of the monitor inside the basement,” which they put there. So, they said, “Oh, I guess we were wrong, so we'll move it.” They moved it, and still it never goes off. The second time the pipe burst, it still didn’t go off. They sent a tech and the tech relocated it and said, “This will work this time,” and it didn't.
We pay like 60 a month, and we're absolutely not getting that value because anytime we try to cook, the fire alarm goes off and we gotta intercept the phone or the fire department shows up. When it gets too cold, we just have to be proactive about the pipe because there's nothing that's gonna tell us if it ever gets too cold downstairs, or if the house isn't quite right.
And then, the concern is we have a water level detector, so if a pipe ever burst in the basement and flooded, that would tell us, “Hey, there's water in the basement.” But the more we've had the system, the more I'm like, “I have pretty much zero confidence that it's gonna go off.” When we first had the system installed, the burglar alarm went off all the time randomly because they weren't installed properly. They were installed in such a way that a slight breeze would offset the two parts of the alarm trigger, and it would go off. We bought the house and outfitted it with ADT. And it took us about a month to get everything moved in. So, we once drove 15 minutes from our old place we were renting to the house, and it was nothing. It was just, “Hey, the wind blew and the door moved slightly.” We ended up having to have techs come out and redo the whole thing because everything kept going off.
ADT's customer service always seem nice enough when they say, “Hey, we'll send someone over to fix it.” Then, half of the problems never get fixed. They're mostly powerless to do anything. It's just too much money. We've seen other options that are much less expensive. We looked into other alarm system companies, and we think we're gonna go with Nest. We have a bunch of Nest devices, and we like them a lot so far. If anyone asks me, I tell them, “Don't get ADT.” It's too expensive. The value is not there. It causes you more of a headache than you need. Nobody has the time to have techs keep coming to their house to fix something that should have been done right the first time.

I Googled home securities near me and ADT ended up calling my wife for some reason. I returned the call to one of their agents and they set things up. I have an account with ADT on my church. I was with HomePro and when that expired, I went to ADT because I liked the functionality of the system that I have in the church. The gentleman came out and we got it installed. He was new and rode around in a car. He didn't have a ladder that he might have needed. If I had said that I wanted to do the cameras, he couldn't have installed it because he didn't have a ladder to get that up. He also didn't explain what they had to offer. Being familiar with the system, I know I didn't want the basic keypad. I wanted the touchpad.
We ended up putting sensors on all of the windows and doors downstairs. If someone doesn't open the window, the sensor would never go off so if they just bust the glass out and come through that way, I'm not protected. My wife and granddaughter could be upstairs and somebody can come into the home by breaking out a window, and we wouldn't even know it. I remember him making a comment that it was better to do all sensors. I could have gotten the motion with the system and didn't have to do 13 of the entry point things and have been fine. However, he never gave me the option and that kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I also bought two cameras, which I didn't have any problems with.

The first time ADT's tech tech came, he couldn't get the doorbell alarm installed because of our internet service. We took care of our internet and he came back out and hooked it up. However, I was under the impression that when someone rings our doorbell, it would alert me. I asked the tech that and he said it should do that. We've been messing with it and trying it. So far, I can see who is outside and talk through the doorbell but I'm not getting an alert on my phone. Despite this issue, the system has been easy to use so far.

The Protect Your Home rep was absolutely amazing and very friendly. It took some time to set up everything. I appreciated the fact that he sat down with me and he came up with three different plans. One was the really cheap option and the other one had every bell and whistle you could think of. He was very open to working with me on one of my own choosing, which ended up being somewhere between the most expensive and the middle one. We went over every bit of the house and he pointed out some things that I hadn’t thought of. I’m happy to have the system and I’m pleased with the instant response that I’ve gotten.

The person that hooked up our installation did a good job. But the person who set up everything before the technician came out is where the issue came in. Whoever I talked to was the one who gave me false information. When I first signed up, they were so nice. They told me I would get a $100 gift card and that it would come to me in the mail. I think it was activation fee that they said I would get back once I get established and hooked up. But nobody explained to me that even though I'm gonna get the money back, I actually had to fill out a form. So when I talked to a rep, she actually sent the form to my email and told me to print it out, mail it and pay $4.95. That was not the deal though. Why did nobody tell me that from the get-go? I would have gone with another alarm system company.
In fact, nobody explained anything to me in detail. It was a quick, "Hey, we're gonna sign you up. We're coming out this day," boom, boom, boom. Nobody gave me any type of insight on what to expect so I did not like that at all. Nobody told me the payment would be coming out in advance either. I was thinking that the payment was supposed to come out on the day that they set as the due date. But then they took the payment out early. I was just glad the funds were there. As far as the type of customer service I have received since I've been with them and questioning all of it, I didn't like that at all. But that's the only issue I have had as far as the company in general. As far as the alarm system, I'm not having any problems with that.

ADT has been horrific. We just got off the phone with them again. The sales rep during the signup was unprofessional. We tried to do it over the phone. They’ve sent out a salesman and he was here until midnight. He got here about 6:00 pm. He also didn’t show us how to work anything and none of the equipment was working when he left. We’ve been on the phone with them since. We got the tech here twice. I have another one coming out again next week because we’re leaving town and we can’t set the alarm when we leave town.
Since the system was installed, it hasn’t worked correctly. The doorbell outside makes a tiny noise, and it was driving all of our neighbors insane. So, we’ve been on the phone with them every day. Two of the times that we’ve called, they’ve sent out techs to try to fix the problem. The first tech came out and said it just needed charge. The second tech came out, replaced the entire doorbell and it’s still not fixed. So, I called them two days ago and told them to come pick up all their equipment. They told me they’re not going to do that because I’ve waited past my three days of canceling my contract. I’m stuck in it even though it hasn’t operated correctly since they put it in. A manager was supposed to call me yesterday and make sure that we were taken care of and happy. We got no phone call. My husband’s taking over the project now. He called them today and we have another tech coming out on Monday to try to fix the problems.

You start up with one rate, and then it winds up being way out of hand. I have a front door, back door security, the motion sensor, and some sound sensors for breaking glasses. His customer service was awesome. He went over the paperwork with me, showed us how to work the equipment and installed it in a good position. It's a nice height for everybody in the house. He was clean and he masked up too. He was definitely very protective when it came down to this Covid-19 and me having a four-month-old baby in my house. He was awesome. However, I was told that I would get $100 back, but I never received the email to get the rebate and I’m still waiting. Still, it’s a good service. The installation was easy with the installer and not only that, it’s easy to work too.

The rep was very helpful and informative. He covered all the bases and asked the right questions. I was pleased with him. The installation could have gone better as far as making sure the sensors are stuck to the actual window seal. I’ve had a few sensors fall off. I put them back up there and redid everything for my alarm. Other than that, everything has been working fine thus far.
I’m not too fond of the ADT Control app. I like the fact that there is an app, but I don’t like the setup of the app versus what we have with ADT Pulse. It was more user-friendly and it was easier to find the buttons that you’re looking for. It also had a larger visual display. ADT Control has more feature and I noticed that with it, I can set reminders. If I leave my house and the alarm is not set by 7 o’clock in the morning, I’ll get a reminder. I can then set the alarm from my phone. That’s a cool feature. Apart from that, I’m just getting used to it. I like the thought of my house being secured, which, to me, is the best thing.

The installation of our ADT system went pretty well except the technician put a sensor slightly off on the sliding door and after a couple of days of beating the doorstop, it knocked the sensor off. That was no big deal but getting somebody out here was a nightmare. This happened at about 10 o’clock at night and we called in right away to have someone walk us through the bypass. That all went pretty well. Then she was gonna transfer us to schedule somebody and I was on hold for an hour and 20 minutes before I hung up. My wife called in during that time and she was also put on hold. Nobody ever scheduled us. We both hung up. It wasn’t until the next morning that my wife called back and, after another extended wait, was able to get somebody out here to fix it. We only had the system for three days and that’s how bad it was. It was ridiculous. Other than that, we have no issues. Once we got it scheduled, the guy came out to fix it.

ADT refused to reimburse the false alarm fine that I've been charged by the city, which was due to sensor malfunction. The same sensor tripped twice in the past 3 month and ADT claims that they cannot prove the sensor is malfunctioned. Customer services can do nothing but telling me to email the False Alarm Research department, because that department doesn't take phone calls but emails only. I emailed the False Alarm Research department several times, and I received the same reply every single time. Apparently, if you want to have reimbursement, ADT makes it impossible and does not want to talk to you directly. And ADT doesn't care at all if you have a false alarm. You'd better think again if you wanna choose ADT.

I have the basic bundle with a few of the home alarma and then, I have the key fobs and the fire/smoke detector. I like the keyfobs. They didn’t have those when I initially had ADT so many years ago. In the beginning, I kept setting the smoke detector off. They had it right next to the kitchen so any time it got hot in the kitchen, it would set it off. I got AT&T Fiber out to my house and they said they were running a special with ADT and they transferred me. Some dude named Jerome came on the phone and started talking to me, but he wasn't able to answer some questions. His supervisor got on the phone and started talking to me. She said, "I have specials that he doesn't know about, so I can get you some more stuff." She also said that it was gonna range from $29 to $59. But when the guy came out, he said it's $59. I said, "What do you mean? It should be between 29 and 59. Why is it 59 and only 59?" He said that I didn't have a hard line so they couldn't go any lower than that because of the wireless monitoring.
When I look at the equipment, the most expensive equipment that is in there is probably the keypad and the rest are just these little plastic doo-dads that are probably made in China, and he just sticks them on the window with like a command strip or something. I still ended up having to pay around $900 plus the $59 a month monitoring fee. None of that was pre-explained to me so that was very misleading. I was also supposed to get $1,800 worth of equipment for free and there's no way that the equipment in my house was $1,800, plus on the 900 that I paid. So it should be about $2,700 worth of equipment. But the installer did everything that he was supposed to do. I wasn’t even sure if I really wanted to get anything at all and they were really pushing it, so I ended up getting it. The system has been working so far though. The app is okay, but it kind of lags sometimes, but that might be a phone issue or an internet issue rather than a provider issue. I prefer using the app to arm and disarm the system, because that way, I don’t have to key in the code on the keypad. I just push a button and it’s super easy.

I looked at one system then somehow I ended up with an old one. But I have a friend who had the new one and paid the same amount of money. Then after Protect Your Home's reps left, I called them and was told that each neighborhood had a different type of system. Also, I didn't like that after a year, the system started crashing and it gave me a signal that something was wrong with my windows. They'd been going for a month and every time I called Protect Your Home, they were professional. They guided me through the troubleshooting process and they were saying that the system was showing that I needed new batteries. But when I changed the batteries, the issue wasn't fixed right away. Not even two hours after that, it came back.
That was when I gave up and I let it go for a while. I forgot I stopped using the alarm for seven months because I didn't wanna access it until it was good. Then, the thing started coming back to normal and when the orange lights went off, it became green. So, I started using it again and at this moment, everything is working fine. I'm also happy with the system right now. I have the window motion detector at night, I have the remote control I can use, and I like that I can put my alarm at night. That's what I paid for.

We have one shutter mic for our living room that, occasionally, the sensor isn't being picked up. I just have to reset it on the mount. I went to ADT because I wanted to buy a Ring doorbell. I knew it was gonna cost me money and AT&T Life charges more. When I was first talking to ADT, I thought the phone call was about setting up the visit and then they would deal with their partner on the visit. When the person got here though, I dealt with him and it felt like the negotiation had to happen on the phone. That was weird for me. I didn't realize I had to negotiate any product over the phone, so I was a little frustrated because I couldn't tell whether I could get more out of the person who came or not. I didn't feel like I could. Still, the sales interaction was really good. He was a great guy who did all the right stuff. He was thorough and he tried to upsell me and I get it. I'm a salesperson, so it's okay.
He helped me work out the situation too. He made some calls and then they put all this stuff up in my house. They gave me all of the products I was looking for, including the Ring doorbell equivalent. Now, I'm in a three-year contract with them and it hasn’t been great for me. We got the system set up on the same day and right as they were leaving, I noticed it said “low battery” on it. Eventually, it died. I asked what was going on and they said I needed to get an electrician in to improve the cable. I wound up having to get an electrician and they ran a new wire out there. It was an extra cost and I didn't anticipate that. They also sold me a door key lock that was able to be turned on and off on the app and it doesn't have enough Wi-Fi.
They gave me a small range extender, which was a switch on and off. Shortly after they left, that died as well, so now, I have to manually lock my lock. I have a feeling it could be the Wi-Fi and I'll probably have to get a range extender in the house. It wasn't what I had hoped for. There's definitely a little bit of buyer's remorse because I should have done a little more homework and forced them to do the right thing. It was expensive too. When they sent the package, it seemed reasonable, but by the time I got the things that I wanted done, it was more pricey than I thought. The 1,200 bucks doesn't cover what I used to get from AT&T, so it was a little frustrating.

I heard about Protect Your Home through my job, Wells Fargo, and they had a 99-dollar deal going on. The salesman was great and I liked him. We talked and he was able to connect on a human level, but it was also being about business. Also, the installer worked fast and everything works perfectly. I love that he suggested something wherein if our window broke out or shattered, then the alarm would go off. It works. I had the alarm on and when my daughter hit the window with a ball hard enough, it went off. After that happened, people felt so secure if they stayed here alone because they knew that if someone broke our window, the alarm would go off.
I also got the lock on my door with the keypad and it was messed up at first, so the salesman put it on and it worked perfect. It had a black sensor piece to it and it was supposed to be silver, so he put that on back until he was able to come back and swap it out. He then came here, swapped it off to the correct keys and it took five minutes tops. It worked great and I liked it that I was able to still use my same keys. I like everything.

The ADT rep was a good dude. He was pretty cool and explained stuff to me. But the ADT system doesn’t work that good. The notifications don’t always go off. If you’re in the house, your interior cameras don’t always show you the videos. A lot of times, the sensor’s sensitivity is really sensitive. A mosquito flies by and that thing’s recording. The alarm got set off not too long ago when there were bad winds and power outage and my back door was open. I don’t know how it got open, but it must not have been shut very tight, but the wind blew it open and alerted the alarm. It took like 50 minutes before the cops got there, and I waved them down and they said, “Well, we just got the call.” 50 minutes is a long damn time. Somebody could’ve taken the whole damn house in 50 minutes.
I wanted two more cameras and another interior camera. I’m waiting for them. We had a disconnection. They never called back. I told them I wanted the cameras and the dude that was there told me it’s 500 bucks for two exterior cameras and he’s gonna come put them in. I’m busy all the time and I’ll need an interior camera.

I talked with Protect Your Home and then, they had people come out to install the equipment the following week. The installers were great. The only thing is when I go into the billing to print up the bill, it's not always possible to print up the latest bill. Other than that, my experience was very easy and straightforward and it's a pretty reasonable cost.

I've known about ADT, but when the flyer came in the mail, I figured I'd give them a holler. The rep was very helpful and answered all the questions. He also gave me a breakdown. The installation went very smoothly and seamlessly. The guy who came was a local guy. I explained everything and we kind of went over where we’d place the equipment.

ADT was affordable at first for the small amount down for it and then how much it would cost a month. Their sales rep was awesome but I was confused because all the stuff that the guy brought over to the house and the stuff that I was told about over the phone were two different things. I was told over the phone the basic stuff. It was $100 or something down and then you'd pay 29 or something a month. When the guy brought all the stuff over and showed me all the stuff that could be in the house, it was over two grand. I didn’t realize that he was literally showing me everything that could be in the house. So, I had a panic attack over that but we sorted it out.
The guy that came to the house explained everything to me and we ended up coming to a good understanding. He did great with the installation. He showed me where everything was going and how everything would work. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. I was comfortable having him in our home. I’m not good at techy stuff and all I do is arm and disarm the system. I wish the actual device on the wall has a video that I can see so I don’t have to constantly go on the app and look. The rep said that it would be available soon. Overall, ADT is great and easy to use.

The system is basic. I just use the alarm and that's it. I spoke with the reps over a year ago because I didn't see a need for me to have an alarm system. And when the guy came out, he told me it was a two-year deal. But then come to find out, it was a three-year deal so I was not satisfied about that. It wasn't explained to me that it was a three-year deal. I was trying to see when I was out of my contract and I wanted to see about getting a doorbell camera. When I knew I was still in my contract, I don't know if I would stay with ADT or not. I know my contract is up now. I haven't even paid the bill because I know I'm out of my contract. I don't know if I want to keep them or not.

I thought ADT was cheaper than what I was paying. But the person that sold the system lied to me. He told me a lot of misleading things. When they got here, it was a different story. The system is not what I wanted, but it’s okay.

We got mostly everything that we wanted for the home. It's working very fine. Just recently, I was just cooking, the smoke was all around the fire alarm, and quickly we were able to call the responders down and tell them that it was just from cooking. ADT's response was really quick, so I really like that. And then they also gave me a call, wanted to make sure everything is okay and then just gave me a security code. The person that came out was knowledgeable. Told me everything that I needed.
I had ADT come out once or twice because I wanted to remove the camera. But during the timeframe that they came in, I was out of my home so I was unable to greet them. They just left and I had to reschedule. Just that one thing that I wanted to try to get removed since it's not convenient, but everything else is really good. I like the easy way of being able to do it from the phone for a key lock - having that accessibility to do it quickly anywhere from either your phone or the computer.

People were saying that ADT is a well-trusted brand and does a good job, which was why I went with it. The sales rep was great and was able to answer most of the questions I had. There were some issues that she said the installer could answer but she was very helpful and pointed me in the right direction. Everything seemed to go smoothly during the installation but the installer wasn’t able to install the device on the wall because he didn’t have a drill in his car. He said he would come back the next day and he never did. It is a backorder for me to get to but I’ve just been meaning to get back to ADT to get someone out here to do that. Other than that, everything was fine.
I have the carbon monoxide and the fire as well as a couple of glass break sensors and then the door sensors. I also have a motion detector. I just moved in recently and I’ve had the house armed as I was away, but I haven’t really had to use it too much. I’ve had it for two months and it seems to be good. I like being able to arm and disarm through my phone before I come into the house, which is a nice feature.

Everything is good. I could use my phone to activate my alarm. So, when I’m not there or if somebody opens up the door, I would know that they opened the door. The only thing is, my internet is not fast enough for the camera. That was last year when I wanted some cameras, but instead my internet is not fast enough. You don’t know who could be in your house. But if you got the alarm, it would let you know something. Even though nobody was there or if there was, at least you know something. Somebody could walk into your house waiting to attack you. I already renewed my system.

However, on the mail advertisement, it said the equipment was free but I had to pay that one. But it's okay. The guy who came in explained it to me. He was really nice. I was thinking about what I can do to improve the security and I started calling, trying to find a company that we have used in the past. I ended up calling Protect Your Home and the lady I spoke with told me the cost. It was very low. She also said, "You don't have to pay the equipment." We ended up setting up the appointment, then the technicians came. They were very nice and very professional. They were not wearing masks, but that's okay.
They gave me an estimate of what it will cost me and it was completely different to what the lady on the phone has given me when I called the first time to ADT. But then, they listened to what I had to say about why I couldn't pay the amount that they had on that. They accommodated the price according to my necessity and they sold the business. So, so far, I'm doing fine. The only problem that I'm having right now is when we have thunderstorms and lightning, sometimes the windows will vibrate, so the alarm goes off and I have to run. Other than that, I don't have a problem and I have received some correspondence for $100 credit card that the company's giving us. I have to go and find a money order, buy the money order, and send the $4.95, so I can get that amount of money.
The two gentlemen that came were very professional. They are out to sell their product. Unfortunately, sometimes, consumers don't have the money to pay what is there that they are selling. But they gave me what I needed. It was about $400 more than the initial that the lady has given me, but that is perfectly fine. When we call the company, the person on the phone could say, "You know what, this is the minimum price that we have.” Then they will assess the risk. They will look at your house and your needs, and the price may vary to prepare the person on the other side. It's not the same when you say, "Oh, it's $850 and this and that." And then when they come and put in front of you a document with $6,000 plus. I'm like, "Wait a second. You know what, I'm not rich. I'm looking for safety for the humans in the house, not because of the TVs and the things that I have, because they can be replaced."
My idea looking to reinstall an alarm in the house is because of my husband's passing. The people in the house need to be protected somehow. So I said, "Well, maybe the alarm is a great idea." I have a camera right inside the house, I have the ring on the door, but an alarm would be better because somebody will be monitoring while I go to sleep tired after a long day of work. The people that came accommodated my needs and they sold the product. I really appreciate the fact that they listened and that they were paying attention to what I was saying. It was not like, "What are we doing here? This woman doesn't have the money." They were able to help.

I was transferred to ADT because of a deal I had with my warranty that said I could get home security for free. The woman I talked to was lovely at first, explaining everything about ADT and asking me questions about my home and neighborhood. Then she got to the monthly payment, whereas I had no idea it cost so much to have ADT! It's the same price as my home warranty!
When I told her I wasn't interested in getting ADT anymore because of the price, she started changing her tune fast. Every time I went to thank her for her time to end the call she would cut me off with more ways to get me to buy their service. The final tactic she used was asking me if other neighbors had it, and when I told her a few did, she immediately insinuated that our house would be targeted by home invaders for not having ADT in our yard. By this point I was absolutely done with the call, no means no after all. I went to thank her one more time for being so nice on the call when she hung up on me mid-sentence. I am very disappointed in ADT just based on this first call impression. I don't think I'll ever get this service in the future, especially when the pricing is $50-$70 a month!

I had a friend that told me they were with ADT and they said they got a good rate and they were pretty pleased with their system, so I thought I would try it. I was a little disappointed in the sales. When I called in and spoke with a representative, I was told one thing. Once the technician came to my house, I was told something different. The representative told me that I would get all this equipment and my payment would be 20 something dollars a month whereas the technician told me that I would get equipment but it was the older equipment, not the new touchpad that they have. He also said my payment would be 50 something dollars a month.
Another part I was disappointed in was when he told me, two to three days after he installed the system, I will be billed for the rest of June and July. So, when the technician was here, I paid him $110 for the install plus they took out $98.98 the next day after he installed it and I wasn’t expecting that. Also, I was supposed to get a $100 Visa gift card. Once I printed off the form, I had to put a copy of my contract and I had to do all these other stuff and I called them and they did say that they will credit my account back the install fee, which they did. So, I'm okay there. I just felt like the communication was off between ADT, the technician and myself.
If you are considering an ADT system, make sure you ask questions when you talk to the sales rep. Make sure that what they’re telling you matches up to what the technician is going to tell you. I almost cancelled my services because of all these problems and issues that were going on. But when I spoke to someone else and they were nice enough to understand what I was saying and they told me they will credit me back and stuff, I said, “Okay, I’ll give them a chance.” I’m pretty satisfied with the service so far.

My fiancé had used ADT in the past. Overall, I like the equipment and service. The sales representative was knowledgeable and definitely sold me on the product. I was really sold on the equipment that the technician that showed up to my house demonstrate it to me. I went ahead with the purchase. It was gonna be a three-year contract. When I spoke to the rep over the phone and to the supervisor, they said that I was gonna get all these upgrades for using the service, but I didn't. It still cost me almost $3,000. The offers I was made over the phone and what I actually got didn't match up. It was supposed to be about $850 worth of free upgrades. There was an extra couple of $100 of all extra window sensors and when I got the service, I didn't get all that. I've paid $650 a month for four months and I never saw anything that indicated I was getting anything for free or as part of the package deal. I was paying for everything.
The technician was very knowledgeable and had all the information, but I don't think that he was ever aware of any promotional offers that I was going to be given or that I was offered. He was just there to do the install. The overall functionality and performance of the system have been excellent. The app I have on my phone works great and it's very easy to use. They originated the install, gave me a wireless keypad that didn't work. We had four technicians come here to fix the issues. At this point, we were already in with them. I couldn't do anything else.
The first technician, I wasn't too confident with. And then the second technician that came out was good. A third technician came out that wasn't as knowledgeable and then I requested that the second technician to come back out and he fixed it so it's working. I didn't know it was going to be this much of a problem. It wasn't explained properly, which was frustrating. They said a technician would come out and tell us what needs to be done, how much it would cost. And the whole thing with the gift card where you're supposed to get $100 gift card, I did not know it was $8 for shipping and handling. Then 8 to 10 weeks to get it, it's just been almost like a bait and switch, so a little disappointed. If I had to do it over again, I would have not done it. Very misleading.

The app is probably the most convenient thing, just so I don’t have to run to the keypad each time I come in the door. I like having to disarm it before I even come in. The installation was a 5-star experience based on friendliness and being knowledgeable but it was about six hours. There was an issue with their iPad where they were entering the information. Also, the rep was a talker. He was very friendly. I got nothing against them but I felt it took too long. The only gripe I have is that when they installed the electronic lock for the front door, I didn't receive a backup key to it. I thought it would be in the box that he gave us. I know it's all electronic but the lock has a keyhole and I don't have the key to it. If that fails, I have no way of getting into the house other than through the garage. I used to use Moni Electronic and Protect Your Home is working better. I also had Protect Your Home a few years ago, which was one reason why I went back. Online, they had a lot to offer and it seemed like a pretty good company. The two ladies I talked to were really nice, but I was not happy with the person who installed the system. I have two doors in my garage, one goes into my washroom, one goes into my dining room. When I pull my Corvette in and open my door, I got a door right there and I can go right into my house with my dining room and kitchen. It's kinda together. I wanted my pad in-between the doorway going in my kitchen and going into my dining room. My fiance was there and told the installer that, but he drilled a hole dead center on an eight-foot wall and put the keypad in so that I couldn't put my China cabinet.
When I got to ask him why he did that, he said that was the easiest spot to get to. I said that my China cabinet was going there. Why would you put it dead center on an eight-foot wall? He could've put it closer to the door. Now, I got a two quarter-inch hole in the middle of my wall and I just got finished redoing that room. Now, I gotta do a patch and repaint that whole wall again. It's got a special paint job on it too. It's gonna cost about 500 bucks to fix.
The following week later, he hit 280, which was a silent alarm. He hit it six times on someone else's keypad but he sent the cops out and my kids were at home. They didn't answer the door because they were scared and they didn't know what was going on because the alarm never went off. It took them about two and a half hours to figure out that the guy that set my alarm was using my password to reset someone else's alarm. I wasn't happy about that.
It protects my house, but I'm not happy with the way my system was installed. All four doors are on a ringer and the other companies wouldn't do that. Now, you had to go through certain doors to get to the keypad. People come in all four doors and I got 30 seconds to get to my keypad to turn off the alarm. But it's all right. 300 bucks is pretty cheap.

I had used ADT about 15 years ago when we lived in Alabama and then we moved. We’ve moved around and then, recently, we purchased a house that had it and I didn’t activate it. In the process of trying to figure out which system I wanted to got to, I researched SimpliSafe and I knew about ADT and I would add something. I didn’t have a whole lot of information that made me feel secure going with something like SimpliSafe because from what I understand, you can simply unplug it and the system goes down, which is what I didn’t want to happen. I went back to ADT and at the time I was doing the research, I got a flyer in the mail and so I went with that and called.
The lady was very helpful and she explained a lot. She told me about the flyer promotion that I got and if the system was still a valid system in the home, we can have all these additional credits and things for additional pieces of equipment. They were very thorough. At the time it was all happening during COVID and we had been exposed so I wasn’t letting anybody in the house. She gave me a reference number to call back when things were ready, which I did. But before I could call back, I kept getting these phone calls saying they were calling to install our system. I hadn’t agreed to anything just yet and the guy was supposed to come out, show me the equipment, check my system, tell me what my pricing would be, and then I’d go forward. I was a little confused by that.
I called and gave my reference number. The lady that answered was very helpful. She said she doesn’t know why they said they were installing but they were just gonna come out and tell us everything. So we scheduled the time and the gentleman came out. He came out with the impression that he was installing that day, so certain information was not relayed down to him. But he walked through everything and ultimately we went with the system and he put it in that day. A lot more than what he intended because we pretty much put the window sensors in every window in our house plus all doors. It was a lengthy installation, to say the least, because the system was outdated.
He was counting everything and I specifically asked if he got all the doors, to which he said yes. But my front porch has two front doors, one in the front and one kinda on the side of the porch like a side entry, and I touched it and asked if he got that door. He said yes but when he got everything installed and was asking to walk us through everything, I looked up and I said I didn't see a door sensor on that one. He had it on my garage door. And he said he didn’t think I wanted one on that one since we keep that one locked. We put sensors on all the other doors that were external doors, why would I not want it on that one? But he couldn’t just add one because it had already been processed and paid. I said if he could take off the one on the garage door because I have the garage and then the door into the house, so if I got to choose between the two, let’s put it in the most external door. So he took it off, he changed it.
I didn’t think too much about it and he said he would just add another one to the garage door later. Over the last week or so that I’ve had it, we set the alarm, we leave, and we come back in. And it’s a new thing for us, so sometimes I forget that it is on. But I come in and do all kinds of stuff. Then, I realize I didn't turn the alarm off and I go back in there and it’s still armed. It bothered me that I was all the way to where the recliner and the couch is and there’s a motion sensor right there and nothing happened. We're gonna call the tech back and tell him something’s not right. For me to get that far into the house and nothing goes off is a little scary to me.
The ultimate point was we protected everything so that people wouldn’t get in if they tried a window or a door. We even got the little vibration thing on the window and we’ve got glass breaks. If they got in, the motion sensor would catch it. But I don’t know if it’s working or not and I didn’t really want to open the front door and make it alarm, because we set it to where it would dispatch police before the contact me. I’m a little leery to open the door and make it go off. Other than that, it’s fine. I had it before and I know it works.

The installer knew what he was talking about. He explained everything in depth and he installed everything very well. Nothing has gone awry with it. And he made sure that what I have was going to be what I needed for my home and did not try to oversell me.
I love my system. There's only one thing that I still got to naggle around with, and that's the alert system in my bedroom whenever a door gets opened. My sister’s boyfriend leaves early in the morning and it wakes me up whenever he leaves. I gotta figure out how to turn that off. But other than that, I have no issues. I use the app very frequently because my little sister comes and goes to my house every other weekend. Some weekends, I’m home and some weekends, I’m at my boyfriend’s house for the entire weekend. She'd ask if I could let her in the house and I’d undo the alarm for her. It’s very convenient for me to have the app because I’ve also got my thermostat Wi-Fi. If it happens to be cold whenever I leave the home or while I’m gone, I can switch it to AC compared to heat. I really like the option of being able to have it on the go if I need to.

When you want to go buy your cameras at Walmart, the lack of knowledge of somebody putting them in or showing up to do it was there. So, I want a company to do it because they're gonna come in, and do it, and get it over with. I had talked to someone at ADT, and we had talked about scheduling. He was like, “We can do it tomorrow. I was talking about how I was going out-of-town the next day, but my aunt was gonna be here. So, he made it all sound okay. He said, "We'll schedule for tomorrow." He was great. I ended up talking to another person about the decisions of what I was getting. I explained to her that I was only needing cameras. I explained I have five doors to my outside of my house. I have many windows. I did not want to purchase anything else. I didn't even mention anything about security for my whole house at all. I wasn't even concerned with that. I've never had security for my house or my business.
We talked about how much the cameras were gonna be, and it was gonna be $53 something a month, and the ending, it was gonna come up and cost around $2000. I was like, “Are you sure on the $2000? Because I've went with a company that said it was gonna be last, but ended up being more because of the fine print, something they didn't mention.” She said, “Yes. And then, payment's gonna be like $2000.” I said, “That sounds great.”
Some young man showed up at my door. I mentioned about my cameras 30,000 times. My aunt was here. That should be good enough if a body is here to be present and take pictures to show where I wanted my cameras. I was leaving out of town. I didn't have to be here for somebody to install cameras in my house. He took it upon himself to start putting sensors on my door. I didn't know it wasn’t packaged. I didn't have a package to look at. I was told it was supposed to be recorded by ADT. But then I kinda found out that when I called, it wasn't supposedly on recording. I was like, “Get the original recording from the people in where I said, multiple times, that I wanted cameras." When a guy shows up and he starts putting his own thing, I understand he was coming and trying to do an upsell. After all this experience now, I got something I didn't even ask for and I didn't even get what I wanted.
They put me in between a rock and a hard place. I’m so lost at what even to do because I didn't even want the door sensors and everything on my door. They put holes in my wall to put the security alarm but it's not included with the cameras which I originally wanted. I didn’t even get my cameras that I originally wanted. I still haven’t got cameras in my house. Then, someone called me yesterday and said, “Well, they ain’t gonna be here ‘til like a few more days.” How does a business not relay messages like they're supposed to? It's not the customer's job to sit there and question the person that’s supposed to come in with experience, and know what he’s supposed to be doing, and to tell him how to do the work right. I should have seen his order paper.
When I talk to ADT , their people seemed like they were trying to do what's right. But the third party team with ADT was not taking care of me. They're like, “Oh, well, you should have stopped him and told him, ‘No, don't put those sensors on my door.’” I didn't know that sensors weren’t in my package. I talked to a person over the phone. We talked about cameras, and they come in and put something totally opposite. And it's my responsibility to stop an employee that is supposed to be doing his job right. Then, they don’t even take responsibility for it.
I had went out-of-town. I was gone for four days. When I realized the situation when I got home, I called ADT and I was like, “Hey, what is in my package for $53 a month? What all is in there? Because I still hadn't got my camera.” The rep said, “Well, your new cameras aren't included.” I was like, " What? What? What? How’s your cameras not included? That’s all you even asked for.” That was even what I called for. How did that get mixed up?
ADT wants me to still be their customer, and I don't mind being their customer because I talked to some very pleasant ADT people that put me on a three-way call with the outside people that work for ADT as a contract. She was apologizing for them, on their behalf, and still trying to do it right. But she really never ever fixed a solution. ADT said they will take over and they will refund the money, but they still haven't done that. ADT needs to counteract with their co-people and make sure that those co-people are taking care of the ADT name.

The features offered in the system were fine. However, when I originally signed up for it, my thought was that the system wouldn't be able to look better than what it was, and I'm not gonna invest an arm and a leg into it. I haven't had to use it so I guess that's good. I was disappointed in what they kinda laid out when they advertised for it and what the possibilities were. Then they showed the cost for that, but at that point, I was a little roped in. I made the deal to sign up for three years. I'm at about on the two-year mark so I'd have to call them and cancel it.

The first time I spoke with ADT over the phone, everything went well besides the situation with the cameras. When they got there, they told me that I needed to pay $300. I wasn’t aware of that. If that was the case, they wouldn’t be here because I didn’t have the $300 to give them. The lady that I spoke with that showed me the system told me that they normally would give out a free camera or help out with a discount on that. The communication was kinda misleading a little bit. But since they were there, I was forced to do it. One guy came out for the installation then another guy came out because there was an issue with my camera. The guy wrapped the wiring around my water hose and ran it up the siding. He just threw the wire that he cut in my backyard. It was shady from the get-go. The way he tried to fast-talk and present was kinda shady to me.
Since we got the system, they have come out once. After that, the sensor on my main door has been off. Every time I put it back on, it falls right back off. I don’t know if I need to go get some more double-sided tape to put on there and what ADT gave us ain’t enough, or maybe the mounting that the guy put it on was dirty and that needed to be cleaned for the adhesive to stick. The guy came out almost 2 weeks ago, and the system hasn’t been armed since because I haven't been able to deal with that sensor issue.

I went with ADT again after having them years ago. Their reps were helpful and their installers were knowledgeable. However, I didn't like where they placed my equipment and by the time I had the chance to see it, it was too late. The equipment is big and bulky and its placement is an eyesore. I'm disappointed in the main box which is so huge and it looks really antiquated. I wish I could change that piece or it could be a bit sleeker. There are other companies that have boxes that don’t look like that.

On my first experience with Protect Your Home, I asked for the two front windows to be covered. The guy told me that he didn’t think that was necessary and that it was right there in front. But I thought it was necessary and so, I ended up calling them and asking them to come back to do it. Protect Your Home is alright but they raised my cost by $20 and that was ridiculous to me. I was told that 58 something was the highest and it turned out being 78 something.

I've been a longstanding ADT customer but I'm highly disappointed at this stage of what happened with my last experience with them. We were gonna sell our home this past January and February, so we paid our bill up full and got our services disconnected. When the pandemic broke out, we decided to stay in our home, so I called ADT to get my cut services back on. I had five cameras and I had a monitor that we sit on our desk in the bedroom. They couldn't even do that. They sent us to a company called Defenders who then in turn promised me I would have a new command panel and that they would give me all this jazz and this, that, and other. The Defenders guy came out and he didn't hook any of that stuff up. He took my keypad off the wall and put another keypad up.
I told them I had a problem with that and they called their company to do a satisfaction call, but they did that before they were finished. I was telling them I was satisfied with their professionalism and I wasn't happy with the job that was done. I immediately called after they had left again because they just made me word promises after that. I told them I didn't want this. Two days later, they sent out the manager of the two gentlemen that came here. He wasn't here for 15 minutes and he stated that he couldn't hook our cameras and our stuff back up as we wanted them. I then called ADT and I complained and tried to cancel the entire contract. I had already spent about $500 at that point.
ADT told me that they would cancel me out in June the 13th, and they charged me another $100 then Defenders told me that I owed them 2,000 and something dollars because I didn't cancel the contract in three days. I told them they stalled me and said they would send a manager out to me so they would get past the three-day window, which includes Saturday and Sunday. I didn't like the whole process. I went ahead and canceled and I will be talking to lawyers about Defenders because we don't have $2,000 to pay them. We didn't do anything with them. They didn't do anything either.
How do I owe $2,000 for service I was promised that I didn't get. That doesn't make sense. I got two kids and right now, I'm facing the brink of having no security for me until I figure out what's going on. These times are bad and where am I supposed to just pull $2,000? All in all, ADT has been good to us all these years and my only qualm with them is that they hooked us up with some new company, Defenders. It's a subcompany under them and that right there is where everything went wrong.

I’m 81 and my husband will be 91 this summer, and he has a house that is huge. We needed to downsize, and this house came on the market and we moved. He had Vivint at his house and I called, and they wanted money to switch me from that house to this house. I was not gonna be paying them $500 to move the system. A month or so ago, young kids came by and totally misrepresented, and said that they could buy me out. I was with a company that I was not happy with anyway. It was not good and I could not ever get ahold of anybody. They didn’t have 24/7 tech support and so, I was gonna do away with them.
The rep from Vivint sat here on the couch and asked what we were paying now. I said that it was 60 something dollars a month. The guy said he could get that for $42 a month. But that wasn’t true. It was just the monitoring part. I ended up signing the contract with him for not nearly the same amount of equipment. The more I thought about it, he misrepresented more than one thing. It was a five-year contract and not a three-year contract. I had three days to change my mind, and I did. I didn’t like being misrepresented and I was lied to.
I called and ADT came out, and I let them put a system in. I don’t have as much but it’s $53 and it is the security package. I don’t have any cameras but I can get them, and I can get them on my phone as well. They won’t be monitored but I can still have them. I do have a smoke detector and there’s no motion detector, but if I have cameras and somebody breaks in, I’ll have a picture of them anyway. When the sales representative on the phone sent someone out, I had other questions and he said that I could just call him back. He gave me a number but I couldn’t get back to that number or that person. He said he was gonna give me $1,400 of free equipment and if I needed more than that, to call him back and they would get it for me. I found out that you have to pay for it and it would be anywhere from 27 if you had a landline up to 59.99. He never said anything about having to pay for additional equipment. So, I didn’t like that.
The installer was a very young man and I asked about key fobs. He said that ADT no longer has them but when I was reading their book, it looked like they do have key fobs. I was asking because I can work my smartphone, but my husband cannot. If he were to come in and forget, he couldn’t do it on his smartphone. Still, the installation went well and the young man was super nice.

I got the digital keypad, one motion detector, and then I got all of my doors, so three doors, secured. The sales rep was great. However, I was very upset, not specifically with him, but I got some misleading information regarding the charges. Still, the technician that came out was good. The installation was smooth too. All in all, Protect Your Home needs to change the way they do that whole money-back thing. That is way too difficult for a new customer. We already have given them our money, so the steps that we had to go through to get rewarded back our money was ridiculous. Aside from that, the security system itself was okay.

We recently moved into our home and afterwards, someone called us and let us know that we had some available rebates if we wanted to do a security system. He said we would be able to get all the equipment for going through the site and then it would only $27 a month, and that it wouldn’t be any more than that. But when we got out here, we realized that was completely false. And that upset us because other than the fact that they reached out to me and I had some available money to put towards it, it wasn’t on my list of things to do at all.
The person who came and installed everything was great though. He seemed to be very good at his job and was very informative. I felt comfortable leaving my wife at home alone with someone in the house. But we've already had one issue with our doorbell where we had to get a technician to come out. The company told us that that there was gonna be no charge since the equipment just wasn’t working. But when the second person came out, he let us know that there is a home fee charge. He waived that for us and this was the second incident in like a matter of three months.
My wife has called the company but they said that they couldn’t discuss anything with her because the account is in my name. So she's been pretty unhappy with it. Currently, the price is still more than double the $27. But the service, so far, we've been happy with. I like having the security system but I would probably go elsewhere the next time that we do this or whenever our contract ends.

For my house in Florida, I had somebody there for me and he was interacting with a gentleman. The gentleman was so nice and polite. He explained everything to me on the phone when he needed to ask a question. I’ve been stuck in Connecticut but I was at ease. The gentleman would say to me, “I don’t think you should put that here. I think you should do that.“ I listened to him because he knew what he was talking about.

I was moving into a new house about a month ago and Protect Your Home found me that way. They gave me a call and gave me a brief estimate and information about the whole system. I said let’s go ahead and that was how we installed the ADT system in my house. They handled everything pretty well, especially the guy who came in to install it. He told me briefly about himself and I think he was a supervisor himself. He was very friendly, very helpful and knowledgeable. He explained everything and everything went in line without a hitch pretty much.
However, I didn't know that I couldn't add any additional devices to my ADT Pulse system and by mistake, I had purchased a doorbell and a thermostat because I have this old thermostat in my HVAC. After trying to hook up those units to my system, I found that wasn’t possible for me to do and Protect Your Home explained to me that they only installed the certified equipment that is provided by the company in case of security issues, like hacking. But that’s about it. Otherwise, the system is working well so far.

So, I had a call after the install a couple of days later and I thought they didn’t finish yet. The flyer said that they'd give me the locks and motion video, and that they were gonna install them. But I called them and they said that that was not included. So why did they say free all in the picture? If they're not free, then they shouldn’t say they were free. The flyer confused me. Even though I got a dog, that’s just a small protection. The dog warns you. They start barking. But my wife is Jamaican and they don’t have the kind of break-ins and things like we got here and she was worried. I have my basement portion of the house which the windows are right there at ground level. It’s the old style windows. So, they could just break a glass and come into the basement and up the steps. I plan on putting some bars now at the windows just in case, to double the protection. Right now, with all the situations that are going on, and I know Protect Your Home just has a good protection plan, that’s why I called them.
Two people came here. They explained everything perfectly, they were very gentleman-like, and were very honest people. I really appreciated it. My wife even cooked them a small meal and everything. We are that kind of people. I’m European also. I’m from Spain and my wife is Jamaican. So, we don’t treat people like workers. You come, you’re wasting your time to explain to us things. It was almost lunchtime so my wife prepared them a couple of sandwiches.
One time, because of the storm, the alarm went off and ADT called me right away, and asked me if I wanted them to call the police. I told them, “Wait, stand by. Let me check the place out a little bit.” Make sure there was no real break-in. So, I went to the basement because if anybody would come in, it would be through the basement. I didn’t see any glass. The only thing was, I forgot the password to say everything was okay. But at least, ADT responded right away and I was happy with that. The only thing is when the alarm went off, my wife heard it but I didn’t. I don’t know if there is any way to raise the alarm a little bit. I was looking at SimpliSafe, which was a lot cheaper and I could get a lot more sensors, but I looked them up on Reddit and I saw some feedback. It's not just the sensors in the house but you’re paying for the monitoring. So, I felt like ADT had more security behind it than SimpliSafe. I noticed that the other day, one of the sensors wasn't operating properly. I rebooted the system and it was fine. But apparently, with SimpliSafe, you're not gonna know, which was on one of the reviews. The ADT rep was great and very responsive to my immediate need for security because the house is empty, and I do go there with my eight-year-old daughter. My mother just passed away and that's her house. I'm there doing administrative, as well as maintenance and working on the yard. So, I just wanted to walk into a house that I know that nobody else is in. The rep was very helpful about that.
The install was fine and I have more of an issue when I call ADT. I didn't understand that there are different vendors that contract with ADT, and I was hiring a vendor. I’ve never worked with ADT and I've only had Bay Alarm in the past so, that wasn't made clear to me. I'm not happy with ADT Defender, which was the vendor that I was assigned. They were the ones who sent out the installer and I wasn't very happy with their customer service. It was very opaque, I didn't know what was going on and when I called back, I got a central number. Then, they had to transfer me to ADT Defender. It would have been nice to know upfront that I was hiring a franchise vendor.
Apparently, there's a 30-day waiting period where if I decide to add additional sensors, I have to go with ADT Defender, who charges a lot. Then, when I called the central number, I got in a different ADT vendor and they said they only charge $100 a sensor for the additional sensors that I wanted, but I would have to wait 30 days. I was kinda confused. I should be able to install additional sensors within the 30-day period without being charged. If I decide that it's not quite enough, they would charge me more. Also, just like any franchise, some are a lot more personable on the phone and others are not. When you call the central number, you have no idea who you're getting so, that’s a little bit concerning.
Hello Cynthia! Thank you for choosing ADT! You do not have to wait to add additional items to your system! Please give us a call when you have a moment. We'd love to help! (888)-211-8563.

I came into my home from a prior owner that had Protection One. My husband and I were very happy with all of the set up that the previous owner had done with motion sensors and glass break. It’s not the most technologically sexy but it was all very well secured. So, we just wanted the present system in our house to be activated again so that it was set up to contact the police. I called ADT and talked to them. I’m a Fire Reserve and I would get kind of a cashback if I set everything up with ADT. I didn’t realize it because it was Protection One. I just thought it was the same thing and I just figured that they could use the system we have.
I called this person and that phone call was very misleading from what happened when they came to my house. I told the guy what I wanted and maybe it was a miscommunication but he made it seem like they could do it. He told me about some credit that I was gonna be given which will more than cover anything that I might need to do to the system. So, I was under the impression that the only thing I would be paying for is the new monthly service.
The day that the guy showed up from ADT, he was trying to sell me almost $8,000 worth of new alarm system. So, that was the first experience that was totally disjointed from what I was told on the phone. So, I said that my husband and I are not looking to do any of this. We live in a very safe neighborhood and we feel very safe with the system that we have. We don’t need all the new gadgets. We just want it hooked up so that the police would be informed, and the guy just kept pushing us. We said that if they wanna go, we can maybe call Protection One and have them do it. He wouldn’t leave and he said he didn’t wanna leave us unprotected and that he wanna leave our house safer than he came. So, we talked it out and then, he said that he got some tech guy to come and they said that they could do a takeover of our current system and rewire it to ADT. Then, they said that they could add a few things in if we wanted them.
We ended up paying maybe $300 instead of $8,000. So, we said that was fine. They dismantled what we had and then they left, and they said they would come back. Even though the system wasn’t hooked up to the police, at least we had the deterrent. If someone did break in, the alarm would go off. They came back another day to do the takeover and that day, they didn’t have all of the equipment that they needed to fully do the takeover. So, they did a partial job. They said that the rest of the equipment was gonna be coming within a week, and again, they left us less protected.
No one ever called me and no one followed up ever about this equipment. They said it would be a week but a week went by and there was nothing. I gave them some more time and then, I reached out. I have the cellphone of the guy who came to our house. So, I texted him and called him. He told me that he didn’t know about this conversation that the tech guy had with us and he was not sure what we were talking about, and that I had to call ADT. So, he left me hanging like that. It’s now almost a month since they came at my home. It’s not fully protected so, I called ADT. They sent Jeff, another tech guy, two days ago and he didn’t know what the equipment was that we needed. So, he came and assessed it, and he called his boss. I overheard them talking and saying that that equipment was never even ordered in the first place. So, it was not like it was ordered and it’s backordered.
What we were waiting on is something called like a wireless transmitter so that they can rewire what’s already in our house to the new system, and then we were waiting on two more shock sensors. Jeff was trying to argue with me about the price. I told him that I’m a reasonable person but I’ve been living in my home and paying a fee of $50 a month to them since they came with no protection. It would be the reasonable and right thing to do to just tell us not to worry about it and that they’ve got this and would cover the cost. It’s $79 and not like it’s $700. I don’t think I should have to pay another dollar to ADT. I feel like they have been dishonest and unaccountable for everything such as telling me that they would follow up and no one did.
So then Jeff said to let him order the equipment and he would call me the next day to let me know what was going on. I said that was okay. That was on Tuesday and on Wednesday, there was no call. I didn’t have Jeff’s number because they wouldn’t give it to me. The tech guy that was in my house said he was not at liberty to give me his number, but he would give me his. So, I texted and called that guy. He never responded to me. I called the main number of ADT again and reported all these. They got Jeff on the phone but they wouldn’t let me talk to him. They said that they couldn’t give me his number. They couldn’t connect me to him but they would talk to him. He claimed that he ordered it but there was no date of when it was gonna arrive. So, he was waiting for that to call me.
My only point that I made to their customer service rep that was on the phone with me was that it would be the right thing with a customer like this who has had so many issues that if they said that they were gonna call, they should call. And even if they didn’t have the date, they could say that they ordered the equipment and that as soon as they know what day it was gonna arrive, he would call me back and we would make a plan. To not call and follow up at all is awful service in my mind. I said that I still wanna talk to him that day even though he said he ordered it because I had other questions for him. So, I asked that he call me back when he can. The rep said he was on a conference call but she would email him to call me. And then nothing. I never heard from him.
This is a crazy time with COVID and everything that’s going on, and I know things get backordered. I’m a very reasonable person and a lot more people would be more agitated but the only thing that bothered me the most wasn’t the delay in service but the dishonesty and unaccountability. You shouldn’t be having to chase people down. At this point, I almost wanna pull my service and go to someone else. The only reason I’m not is because I put in so much work and effort to get this set up that I can’t even imagine having to call another company and have them come out and survey the property. It’s like a whole thing to start over. If it was easier, I’m just gonna go find someone else to help me.

I'm also getting the rebate check which is supposed to be in my parents' name 'cause they have the work order. But everything went fine. I believe my parents are happy. I need to have ADT change the contact information. I'm going there now so I will have them straightened that up.

I wanted to have the feature where I can set up schedule time to turn on and off the alarm. But for that, they want me to pay almost twice the amount of the membership which I don't think is a feature that justifies the price jump. The system is good for what it is, but after three years, there's something better out there compared to that. I'm not completely satisfied with ADT. The system itself is laggy. It's pretty slow trying to connect to the system from my phone so there can be improvements in that area. They should upgrade the system without requiring the consumers to pay more money. At some point last year, I wasn't notified that my bill was going up by $1 or $2 every month, and I have to have a talk with them. I don't know why they're trying to sneak in fees just to increase the monthly fee. I really didn't like that. But for now, I'm planning on staying with them.

I used to be in real estate and I’ve seen ADT forever. And then my son had ADT in their place in West Virginia and he liked them. I called to get something that would help me if I fell, like got knocked out. Apparently, I got the wrong one. I thought I could add that to my service and get the whole package but come to find out, it’s going to cost me another $35 to do it. I thought I had the ability to add that to it for $10. They said it would be $35 instead of 27. So, I’m not going to do that. They were very nice and they did a really great job. But the way it was explained to me, I just thought, “Well, I could add that to that later down the road,” but I couldn’t.
I would like to be able to figure out a way to keep the service that I got. I understand that, but not that expensive. I couldn’t afford it. Also, they signed me up for three years. I don’t know if I can get out from under that or not. I know it sounds corny and I should probably have paid more attention, but it went so well and I dealt with very nice people. It’s just that I just couldn’t afford the whole package. So, I’m stuck. They did a beautiful job and everything went very well. The system just wasn’t the service that I thought I was going to get.

I got ADT through a referral and they said that there was an incentive like a gift card. I mentioned to the person who installed my system that I was referred and that I heard that there was this promo going on where the party who enrolls would be getting a $100 gift card, and the other party who referred me would also be getting one. Then the person said that it was right and that I should be getting the gift card within three to five business days. Unfortunately, the referral process didn't work. When I called ADT, the customer service said that the referral needed to be done online and I should get like some kind of code.
I was transferred to three different people and none of them gave me what the other person said. It was all three different answers. I also asked for a supervisor from one person and the person hung up on me. The ADT reps were fine and very prompt. But they were not as educated on the programs and the promotions as much as they should be, given the fact that there was the confusion that happened. So technically, they wouldn't be able to give the gift card to me. That was disappointing. At the end of the day, it's still about the protection of my home. But there really should just be more training on customer service.
Hello Pauline. Thank you for reaching out and we apologize for this frustrating experience. Only your friend who referred you, would be eligible for a referral incentive if they followed the process on https://www.adtreferafriend.com.

So, the AT&T rep that I spoke to on the phone directed me towards Protect Your Home. But she wasn't very helpful and I've never done my internet setup because of her. It was almost like whenever she heard that I was a new homeowner, she wanted to sell me on her ADT thing so bad that she forgot about my internet. But that has nothing to do Protect Your Home. Everything's been great with them and the process was super smooth.
The dude who came out to my house told me about ADT and kinda walked me around the house to see how secure the property was. He was the best and I couldn't say enough good things about him. I also saved a good bit of money on the initial startup equipment, so that was cool. It's always nice to save money. I upgraded a little bit for a motion detector, a fancy smoke alarm, and a window watcher thing, so I paid a little extra, but I saved more money than I actually spent that day. Aside from that, the startup cost wasn't that much and our monthly subscription to Protect Your Home is great. Plus, he offered me all kinds of free stuff like stickers and signs. So overall, it was a great experience and I have recommended them to other people.

I got a postcard-type thing in the mail from ADT and it had a special on it. I had also checked around different places but I liked what I saw with ADT more. So I went ahead and called them. Everybody that I spoke with was super nice but I was most impressed with Ivory. He’s the one who came out and installed the system. He’s kind of a young guy and my first impression was, “Oh, gosh.” But he was so thorough. He explained everything to me. He was just outstanding.
When I was talking with ADT the first time before they came out, the rep went through everything. He said that I would get a $100 gift card and then they needed to take a deposit. He said it was to make sure that I was serious and that I would be able to buy one if I decided to. I asked if it was refundable if I didn't buy and he said yes. I asked if it would go towards my system and he said it would be returned to me then I could just purchase what I wanted to purchase. He also explained everything that I’d be receiving and we talked about what other things I wanted. But when Ivory came out and he put the system all together, he said he didn't think the company returns the deposit. So at the end, we talked to the manager and I asked him. He said they don't return the deposit but that I would get a $100 gift card which is kind of to replace the deposit.
I had loved my experience but that was not how it was explained to me. So they might wanna have the reps explain that better because I was told that I would get the deposit back regardless and that it was just to hold until they came out there. But that was the only thing and it was not a problem. Everything else had been excellent. I’ve been very impressed with ADT. I also had to call yesterday and I got someone who was super friendly. He answered my brief question.

ADT is the number one among the providers but when I signed up with them, the guy who was on the phone who was trying to sell it to me told me a bunch of stuff that weren’t true. He was not doing what he was supposed to be doing. He started asking me how many windows I had and I told him. He said this was the best deal ever because of COVID. He was pitching it like it was gonna be a $99 install and then everything was gonna be free, which wasn’t true. It’s an $850 package and then, it goes up if I add more stuff.
The installation was awesome though. The guy who came out was down to earth, cool and a straight shooter with me. He contacted me before he came out here to confirm that our meeting was good. That was smart. He made sure I was still available and he drove two hours. After he got here, he explained everything to me and we worked it out. He gave me the rundown and pitched me the higher deal, which is what you do in sales. I was realistic with him about my finances and he understood that I just bought a house and I had a baby.
We got the manager on the phone because he had to approve some extra equipment. We ended up making a deal and we had an arrangement. He also told me it was gonna be $26 a month. The guy on the phone did and he was wrong on that. Apparently ADT is doing $53 and they’re gonna be phasing out the 26, which he didn’t say any of that. I understand that he was trying to get people interested but there’s an ethical way about going about things, and the way he did it was not ethical. Still, the system is good and the only issue that I had was I tried to remove a sensor from a window because I didn’t know that I couldn’t put it on another window. Then it set the alarm off, so I assumed that ADT has it where you can’t do that. It was disarmed but it triggered a tamper alert and it went to my phone. It won't work and I don’t know how to make it work like that.

We got our TR pad, the cool control panel on the wall, and it controls our doors and windows. He put in four smoke detectors that he synced up to the system.
I was with Brinks for many years. It used to be Monitronics, then it went to Brinks. I couldn't get anybody to respond. I even gave them a last chance to respond. Protect Your Home should be clear about the product that they're offering. I have just the alarm and this is gonna be the price for the alarm. If you wanna add the cameras, there's gonna be an additional cost. The app is not included with just a basic plan versus if you get all the cameras. I also feel like the app could be a little faster. It takes a couple of minutes to load when we want set or disarm it. Other than that, that’s all I use. I don’t even use the keyboard.

Customer service explained that there's two packages and that the technician would give us more about the packages. With the technician, they have a really good process. He was very knowledgeable about everything that we needed. He tried to look for the most amount of discounts for us, so that was really good. But they should make it a lot more knowledgeable for the customer service reps that do the sales.

My agent referred me to ADT. When I contacted them, I spoke with a gentleman first. He set me up with the appointment for the installer to come and install the system. Both of them were great, extremely helpful, and nice. However, I was under the impression that I was getting free equipment. When the installer came, I said that I was not prepared to spend two grand for additional equipment. He explained a lot of different things to me and all the options that I had. He also explained the installation process, told me what he was gonna be doing, and explained all the products thoroughly. He was also able to throw in a few things after getting approval. I was happy with end result.

The previous security system I had was always messing up and the company was never reliable. So, when the lease finally finished and they were going out of business, I went back to ADT ‘cause I was happy with them before. The representative brought all the information on how to upgrade from a small package to medium to high standard one. I also didn’t feel pressured on anything. He was very professional and he made me feel comfortable with my choices.
He also installed the system. He was very careful on everything and he cleaned up well. He also explained the reason why he was putting the fire things in certain areas and then why the other one for the gasses would be lower. I had my other one before but I had it higher up. Then he explained that it should’ve been lower because the gas would be coming from the bottom, up and it should have been lower. He was well-knowledged in answering all my questions and was really good. I put the system on all the time when I leave the house. But with all these things happening, I have been putting the system on and trying to be safe. Overall, I was very satisfied with Protect Your Home.

I haven't had their equipment in my house for very long and about three weeks into it, a window deal fell and we went without an alarm for a week and a half. I paid full price that month. I know things happen but for me to pay for a service that I'm not getting kinda stinks. But at the same time, that was the only issue that we had. The people were wonderful. Both of the guys who came out to do the installation were very professional, kind and good at explaining things. So, they did a good job.

I needed to follow up on the installation date with Protect Your Home. It was somewhat disappointing because we waited around all day for the installation crew and 45 minutes before the window that we were given, I called and they told me that they wouldn't be able to install the system because they needed some type of proof that we were the new owners of the house. All that could’ve been prevented the day before and we wouldn’t have wasted a whole day waiting around. But once a date was set, the technician that came out did an excellent job. I got the basic home package. They virtually replaced the previous system in the house with an upgraded keypad. This house is a bi-level home and there’s one master keypad that is part of the system that we purchased.

Protect Your Home was one of the top-rated ones online and when I dealt with them, the customer service was good. They explained everything to me and made sure I understood everything. That’s with the sales department and with the man that came out. My parents, growing up, always had ADT and when I did a comparison, ADT came out a little better in my opinion. My system is also directly connected to the police or the fire department in case something was wrong. The other companies I researched did not do that, and they also were not affordable in comparison. It took some time, but it was a pretty easy set-up with Protect Your Home. They should shorten the process a little bit.
I got a basic set-up from Protect Your Home. I have my doors and my windows. But I couldn't do the motion detector because I have a dog that’s over 60 pounds and the motion detector would forever go off. There's something else on the door for if somebody tries to push it in or kick it. But that one is very sensitive. I've had a few false alarms, but I can't say that was to the fault of the alarm itself. All of the units in my building are fairly close together, so if someone closes or slams their door, it shakes my door, which would make it seem like somebody is trying to break in it.
The tech who came was great. He pretty much gave me a rundown of everything that I was signing up for, what it does, what is good for my space, and what wouldn’t be good for my space. He pretty much made me feel really confident about my purchase. There were some things that I hadn’t even thought about that he mentioned, like getting the light that I can turn on using the app for my house, which I thought was a really good idea. It's just me and my son and my dog. It’d probably freak my dog out a little bit at first, but it's good to be able to do that because at least I don’t have to worry about walking into a dark home in the middle of the night. That was a safety feature that I hadn’t even thought about and it saved me some electricity.

I know someone who has ADT. He lives close by and I saw the sign on their lawn. It would have probably been easier for me to go with Xfinity because I have Xfinity. But I wanted to give ADT a try. It was convenient for me when I got the piece of postcard in the mail and it had everything on there. I just called. Plus there was a special that was going on so I liked the price as well. Then when I called in, the customer service was good. The person who came here was very good as well.
She installed and was very informative. I told her what my key concerns were and she built a package based on that, and it wasn't too much more than what was on the postcard. So I appreciated that. What was on the postcard was the generic pricing and you can do other things. But I've had companies before come in to do other things and they get you with a certain price and then build something completely different that costs way more. I didn't feel like that with ADT. Obviously, I could have chosen a lot of things that would have done that to me but the rep didn't force them on me. She did a good job. This is what works for me as far as what I need protected and she just went with it.

I've got motion detectors, the front, and the backdoor from Protect Your Home. The installer was great and showed me how to work it. Protect Your Home's service sucks. I used it one time, and then I got ready to leave. It said something about the front door. This was about three weeks ago, and my system still isn’t working. It’s a rental property, and I don’t go over there every day. But in order to have it reset, you have to be there and while I’m there, I don’t have the number. However, I do not have time to call them to have my system fixed. Why should I have to call them to reset my system? I’ve had my other system for more than 20 years and I haven’t had to do that.

I'm familiar with who ADT was just by virtue of seeing other homes having their service. But we saw a promotion in the mail and that's how we developed interest. However, we felt like we went through a bait and switch. With the way the reps presented it, it sounded like it was a great deal and we will pay money for outdated equipment and sign a three-year contract which if you don’t read the fine print, you can pretty much get looped into something that you are stuck with for three years. Otherwise, you're paying about 25% of the remaining in your existing contract. So, I wasn't really happy. We were just so busy with moving and everything so we felt like we needed some protection because I would be working a lot and my wife would be home by herself with our daughter. So part of the sales uses fear and scare tactics, trying to convince you to get more equipment, service, etcetera.
About the first installation, legally, they can't proceed without some sort of verbal confirmation. So, after the tech confirmed that we were considering service, he installed the panel. And then from that point on, he created like this ginormous hole in the wall so we were already stuck at that point and we went ahead and started installing the rest of the equipment once we were, "Oh, okay, well our foot’s already in the door.” Also, we didn't know the area that well but from what I understood, where we live in Arizona, it's an extremely safe neighborhood. But the technician said otherwise. I didn't really want scare tactics. I just wanted a good security monitoring system.
This time around, I expected a similar sales pitch tactic and I was adamant in the beginning that I just did not want to pay for more equipment. I just wanted the service continuation. The rep tried to sell me more equipment and then at the end of the day, he said, "Well, you know what, let me give you some free equipment, I'll give you this deal." And then, once everything was installed, he said, "Well, you know, I'm sorry, I made a mistake. It actually cost X amount of dollars," which is like $100 more than what he said in the beginning. So, there's a lot of bait and switch tactics and I'm just not happy with that.
We had stayed with ADT because we already had purchased the equipment and we just wanted continuation of the service. I didn't realize until it was buried in the conversation that we would sign a three-year contract again, that we would have to renew our contract instead of continuing our existing contract by switching over. I wasn't too happy about that either.
The mobile app is convenient. You can activate and deactivate. The information is pretty convenient. They do everything. But you end up paying a premium for things that in my mind, should be just very standard. You're paying a premium for the app, which costs an extra $20 a month for that service which is ridiculous. If you want customer retention, these are things that should be standard in order to say, "We're gonna be the best for you. There's no reason for you to switch." But the fact that you have to sign a three-year contract shows that they are not confident and they use all these different sales tactics. It shows that they're not confident in their actual service and equipment.
They're really trying to just get by with giving you the least amount of product for money that they're getting. Because a lot of the equipment seems very outdated. There are other services out there like SimpliSafe where you install it yourself. While we are cellular backed, we are not dependent on Wi-Fi and things like that and they sort of try to steer you into going that route. But nowadays, most places are very secure and safe. It's really just a matter of what you want preference-wise.
In the beginning, I said that we were supposed to get 800 and something dollars worth of equipment, which is nothing because they inflate the prices of the equipment. A $60 smoke detector that you can buy in Amazon is $240 according to them. It's ridiculous. They tell you it's photoelectric. More sensitive. They use all sorts of tactics and try to sell you more. Let’s say you have a $900 package or credit, and then you get to the new place or you get it installed and they say, "Well, this garage door monitor is actually $250." "Well, okay, so then I can only get like maybe two or three items." "Well, yeah, and actually, it doesn't look so secure over,” because I would need detectors on every single window, etc.
And the gentleman would give you a convoluted way of getting reimbursed if you go through this whole rebate thing. But if you have to basically get a cashier's check from the bank and submit with a form, and then the Visa gift card comes to you in five to six weeks, and then you have about 60 days to claim it. So, it's a little convoluted and seems like it's not really that big of an advantage given all the effort and time you have put into actually get the rebate.
I wouldn't have gone with them had I known that we were would have to sign another three-year contract. But we were already locked in so it extended our contract for nine months. It's peace of mind and convenient in some ways. But at the end of the day, we would not need something like this moving forward. So, once the contract is up, I don't plan on renewing.

I heard of Protect Your Home by mail and it sounded like a good thing. The customer service was also fine. The good thing is they would say something like the service is $59 a month. When you set up that initial appointment, the rep would show you all the fees. But it's not just the $400 from the setup if you wanna add more goods. And it's paid upfront. It's pretty much like false advertisement. You're paying $800 and some change to get set up. It's more like you're paying so many hidden fees when the person gets there to set up.
The company should be careful because they have the tech come out but if the customer doesn’t have the finances, then that person is a waste of time for both parties. The tech will also have to get the person's attitude because they weren't told that in the beginning and they don't have control over that. Aside from that, customers also have to go through hoops just to get the $100 Visa gift card. That's another thing that is very frustrating. I'm getting protected and the company is getting their money. Why should I be inconvenienced just to get something that is benefitting both parties?

I’ve been trying to reach out to them to register my alarm, but no one was getting back to me and I have no clue what to do.
