We went by what we saw in the neighborhood and went with ADT. The customer service was okay but the system is not great. It keeps getting several false flags all the time and I haven’t had the best experience with the whole set-up message. They need to take us more step by step into the whole troubleshooting process. Typically, they give some suggestions but when we try it out, nothing works. ADT is also a little expensive. My next system is probably gonna be something where I just do my own home security set-up. That’s probably gonna end up saving me a lot of money.

It has been six years since we’ve had ADT and I don’t have any problems with the system. ADT has been around longer than the other providers. And I had a pretty good experience with them.

My child's father has ADT at his home and he suggested it. When I called them to switch my cable over, they also suggested it. Their customer service did pretty well. But I wasn't aware in the beginning that I had to pay for the first month and the last month. I chose some options outside of what I was given so I paid a little bit extra. It was the 850 then he gave me extra. Maybe I was just misunderstanding what all would be covered and what wouldn't.
The installation didn't take long. The guy was nice, friendly, and very informative. I had some issues with my backdoor sliding and he gave a number to call. But I reset something on the panel and it's been working. At first, it wouldn't allow me to alarm it because something was going on with the backdoor. But I was able to do a bypass or override that I saw and that took care of the issue. It allows me to alarm my alarm now with no problems. Everything's been great.

Everything’s going fine with our ADT. The sales rep was very good. I was with their competitor and I didn't like the service that I was getting. I would call and they couldn't answer this. They didn't know what the problem was, or my bill, I didn't understand that. It was just a lot of things. Once before, I belonged to ADT, and I somehow got out of it, but I’m glad to get back with the company. I have no problems.

ADT's rep gave me the details and scheduled an appointment to have somebody come out very quickly. Everything he told me from a sales perspective was accurate in terms of how we moved forward. He had great knowledge of the product and seemed very professional. I was happy with it. And then, the installation was also great. The tech was a nice person, came and did it all immediately, spent a day at the house just moving it all forward. There were some hiccups with some of the devices not connecting that he had to come back out for, but got out pretty quickly to resolve that.
We have a little concern about some of ongoing service we’ve gotten so far, but it’s limited. We had a false alarm and essentially, nobody called us and no police arrived. Nothing happened except for the alarm going off. So upon calling ADT, they said that one of the numbers that they had to call was incorrect so they corrected that. We don’t know if that will work now, but not really clear why the other number on file wasn’t called and they said something about they changed the setting so that that should be called now. And at the time, we weren’t sure why authorities weren’t contacted. It might have had to do with us disarming the alarm after it went off for a minute or so, but still just trying to understand that.
We also need to contact them because there are some glass break sensors that are too sensitive that we’re worried would trigger false alarms when we arm the system while we’re at home. We want to have those trigger a countdown instead of immediately triggering the alarm, so we've got an opportunity to disarm it before the alarm goes off. But so far, ADT delivered what they promised to deliver, as long as they give me confidence that this is ultimately gonna work the way that I wanted to.

I grew up with ADT. I spoke to someone, and then ADT put someone else on the phone to verify all the information. It was a good experience. And then, the technician was very friendly. He made me feel comfortable with him being in the home putting everything up. He explained everything. I actually purchased the extra motion sensor for my back of the house because he explained everything that I needed to feel comfortable. So far, everything is great.

I’m in the Coast Guard and we moved from Mobile Alabama. I was wanting to go with SafeTouch and Googled it, but ADT came up. We’ve had ADT before and I just went with that. There have been some times when one of my children doesn’t realize the alarm is on and forget the code. The customer service is not bad and if an alarm goes off they call us. We had a different brand when we lived in Tampa. We got charged $75 because that happened more than three times and the cops were dispersed. We haven't had that with ADT. They call, text, and email.

I already have ADT's service with my business. Their sales reps were professional. I was a little taken aback by some of the charges, though. When I first called, I was under the impression that there was free installation. That turned out not to be what happened. I was told I would get a $100 gift card and maybe that'll come in the mail. I was also told that they were going to throw in the smoke and fire protection but I ended up having to pay for that. Plus the monthly fee is actually more for my home than it is for my business by quite a bit.
But I'm happy with ADT as far as the service package goes. I intend to call about one of my sensors not working correctly. But I enjoy the protection and the peace of mind of having the system in my home. I like the fact that I can use it either when I'm at home or away. It has a stay feature where you can arm the system, but stay in your home. If someone tried to break in, the system would still be active.

Our experience with the sales rep of ADT went very well. We were told that if someone gave us a reference, then to have them call in and they would get a $100 check or credit. Then someone else told me when I called in, “Nope. We don’t do that,” and he was very rude. His name was Trey. He explained everything and how it was going to be used and what all we could have. The only thing that we weren’t too fond of was we didn't want a couple of things, and he said, “If you get rid of those two things, then it will make your money go down, so you’re still gonna have to pay this much.” The next day, I called. I was like, “I don’t want this stuff.” So, we had to have another tech come out. He knew his stuff, but he was pushing and pushing to get some extra stuff on us.
I was told that the installer would be there between 9:00 and 11:00, and then he showed up at 12:00. I have a home daycare, so it was not good that the kids didn't really sleep. He was quiet, but he was there for six hours. He didn't leave until after 6:00, and I had a class that started at 6:00. So, it was not a good deal, that whole day.
We had Vivint. Then I saw it was gonna be a little cheaper with ADT but with more stuff, so I switched. If I knew all this is gonna take place, I wouldn’t have switched. As a customer, my wishes were never met. They said just, “Oh, sorry,” because I called in and complained, and nothing was resolved. I was not happy and we’re still even thinking about just saying we’re going back with Vivint because of everything. We have four months of additional cost to pay, and we’re not too fond of that.

ADT is really known nationwide and I heard about it a lot. So, I decided to try it out and see. The person I spoke to who set up the appointment and the person who came over to install everything were both very helpful and very professional. The main reason I did it is when we go on vacation, nobody’s home, and I would like to keep an eye on the house. I’m always home, but still, I wanted to install everything and have the system ready. Everything seems to be working fine. We set up the alarm the day before because someone dropped something, so there was a loud noise and the alarm thought it was a window broken. I’m very satisfied right now.

ADT’s always very popular. Everywhere we see all the house signs of ADT and we thought of other companies, but then we thought that maybe ADT is the most reliable. I read reviews and everything too. When I called, the reps were helpful and they were good. Now, we have three motion detectors (one in the bedroom, one in the entry way and the other one somewhere else). We also have the system on the ground floor windows, but not on the windows of the bedrooms upstairs because they’re high. We have it on the main level and the basement as well. When we are away travelling, we would turn the system on and then I could monitor it from afar, if things are okay or not.
We used to have two remotes that we put in the car then we sold one car and one remote was in it. We realized it two months later and when we called the car company, they said they couldn’t find it. Now, we are using one remote, the one that we use in the car to open when we’re out, and it’s so difficult. My husband doesn’t have his remote and I have keep the other one in my car. Sometimes we also have some glitches and the issue has been going on for six to seven months. Suddenly, without any reason, the system will keep on beeping and we would keep on pressing all the buttons. It doesn’t go away for a while then again suddenly it just stops. Still, we’re satisfied with ADT. Luckily, we never had any serious problem that we needed to call on something.

The ADT sales representative was very helpful and walked me through the different products and services, and helped me with mapping out what I needed. I already had one quote from someone locally and that helped me figure out that I wanted to use ADT’s service. But when the person came here to my home, it was a completely different experience. It wasn't necessarily positive because my monthly charge went from $99 up to $1,900 for all the stuff that he said that I needed. I said that was not exactly what we agreed upon on the phone. I told him that I didn’t need all that stuff.
The manager on the phone had agreed to a certain number of windows, doors and units and everything else for one price. Then this person said that I needed cameras and bedside monitors. I finally got them back down to what I wanted and ended up paying an extra $44 which was fine with me. It was fair but I didn't appreciate that very much. There are people who will buy in to all of that but I wasn't one of them. I was off-guard at the time because there was one pad that I wanted installed upstairs that I missed and I'm not happy that I didn't get that one installed.
I explained to the gentleman that Keurig doesn't make their money on their machines but on all of their pods. So, ADT is not making their money on their install but on their ongoing monthly fee. I said that they should get the install done and not upcharge a humongous install from all of that because that's not where they’re gonna be making their ongoing services. So, I said that we needed to agree on what we agreed to install based on what my initial conversation was with the people on the phone, and then I would agree to a monthly fee based on that. I even ended up having to increase the amount that I was supposed to pay on a monthly basis. So, I'm okay with what I ended up with but I wasn't happy about the way that it was sold to me.

ADT has a great product for the price. The reason we chose them wasn't necessarily because the cost was better. It was the cost versus the quality of service. The sales rep was a nice dude. He was willing to come over and explain it, and he had a large knowledge of the product. He told me what package he would give me if I wanted everything and then he broke it down from there. He was like, "Okay, so you said you don't need this. You don't need this," and we went from there. It was a more reasonable balance versus the original approach. The only problem is the fact that I still don't have a working doorbell. But the features are good so far.

The reps of ADT were very friendly and very courteous. They did a great job. However, we don’t have ADT anymore. It was for the safety of my mother-in-law but she made such a ruckus, we ended up calling the company three days afterward and we returned everything. She just felt that she was being invaded. She didn’t believe that nobody was watching and she didn’t like it. Even when the installers came back, they were very courteous and very nice. I felt horrible that they had to come back ’cause they were there three hours installing it.

The sales rep was great. He knew what he was talking about and was quick. He explained things so I could understand. He gave us several options and let us choose what would be best for us. He wasn't pushy and was quite informative. We were very happy with him. Initially, I was gonna buy a set from Walmart and have my son install it because he does electronics. But I thought I would need someone to monitor besides us. I've seen several of the signs around and I know they are monitored there. So there is a little more coverage. The installation also went very quickly and the guy cleaned up everything that he had brought.
We have the motion sensor in the house, the camera outside and the alarm outside. I also have the phone app. The installer had showed me how to pull down the phone app so I can monitor the house. I've received several alerts but my husband was the one who set it off. We're 70 years old and I just talked my husband into getting a smartphone a couple of months ago from a flip phone. When he leaves, he calls me and asks me to check and see if he had armed the system, which he never had. I've shown him and shown him though.

We went out of town recently, and my son would come and check on the house. I left my dogs and I just didn’t feel that it was safe. My brother had an alarm service hooked up and I felt that we needed an alarm service hooked up too. The installation of our ADT went perfectly. They explained everything to us and hooked it up fast. They weren’t lagging around. They were comfortable with us. We were comfortable with them, that we were doing our normal routine and they were walking around like we didn’t exist. We were cracking jokes and laughing and they were just happy, and it was wonderful. I put the sign up and put the stickers in all the windows. We set the alarm every night before we go to bed. We set it before we leave. The boys like the remote, which they could use on their cellphone. They use that to set the alarm a lot.

We had ADT where we previously lived in Aurora and then when we moved to our house here in Westminster about five years ago, I decided to stay with them. They transferred service and we've had them for a good 25 years. The customer service has been pretty good. If I call in and have a problem, I would get through to people and get the questions answered. And the service we've had when they come out has been pretty good. But there are some things I wish they had talked to me a little bit about in the beginning when I got this system.
This house was owned by my dad previously and he passed away. He had ADT and the house was hard-wired for a system. When we decided to come over here and we had ADT out, the guy talked to me about the fact of going wireless and how it made some sense. The phone service that they would use for the alerts and all that kind of thing would be cell phone service. It would not be a hardwire coming to the ground so, potentially, somebody couldn't cut the wire outside. That all sounded good.
The only thing I didn't think about a little bit was that each one of these contact points pieces that are put on each window and door has a battery. Eventually, I'm sure those batteries would go out. I don't know how long they'll last and they really didn't say. I'm wondering if at some point I'm gonna have to have somebody out to replace all those batteries. If it were brought to my attention, I might've had second thoughts about going that route and would have just stayed with the hard-wired. So far, none of the batteries on the doors and windows have gone down. The only batteries we've had to replace so far were in the smoke alarms.
Also, we had a problem with the battery in the main unit that we had to have replaced. They had to come out and do that and they always seem to go out in the middle of the night. I don't know how they know it, but they always seem to think that's a good time to go out instead of during the daytime. But that's the way it is. Other than that, I'm fairly satisfied with the service coming out and doing all that. And I like the app. I've used the app when we go away in terms of watching and giving me information on what's going on with the alarm and with the different contact points. We have cat sitters come in and they have to turn off the alarm and then turn it on again when they leave. Once in a while, a cat sitter wouldn't get it turned on again and fortunately, I would be watching for that and would turn it on remotely. Being able to do some of that stuff remotely has been nice.

I heard about ADT when I lived in my previous home in Cali Heights. I had them for about 20 years. And then I got a divorce, I bought a new house, and I came across Brinks. They were offering something. So, I switched over to them just for a change. I loath them. So, I called ADT back and I said, “I wanna start service.” The sales representative from ADT was courteous. I fought so hard with Brinks. They wanted to keep me in a contract for another three years, and I was like, “I will burn my house down first.” So, when I got this flyer from ADT, I called. I had all of these for 24.95. I got everything but the kitchen thing. It was easy-peasy.
As far as the installation, the supervisor and the installation guy came together. The installation guy was rather timid because he’s new and the supervisor was great. He was really good with the installation guy. He guided him and he didn’t do anything for him. He let him do it all himself and then he checked his work. He’d recommend things to him, and the interaction that he and I had was great. Also, the supervisor said, “We have this new thing like your front door that the only way it’ll go off now is if somebody opens the door literally.” I have all these French doors all at the back in the house, in the bedroom, and in the living room. I got a lot of them. He said, “You know, all somebody has to do is punch one of those glass things and it will then would set the alarm off.”
So, we installed these new things and all you have to do is shake them and they’ll go off. That was really good. So, he upgraded that. I was really happy with it because now I feel really secure. I’m here by myself. I’m a single male now. So, it’s nice at my ripe, old age to have that kind of security when I’m not here, and I turn the alarm on at night when I go to sleep.
During the protest and people started looting, they were maybe three or four blocks from my house. And my neighbor said, “I gotta get an alarm. I gotta get a system.” I told him, “Dude, go to ADT. I just got done with them.” I’m $25 a month with the current ADT I have, and I have more coverage. So, that’s like $300 a year. I am very satisfied. My experience was really easy and very comfortable. The guy was smart. He was very good at explaining to me and making a rationale even though it’s gonna cost me extra money for the extra sensors. At that point, I didn’t care because it made sense. It was very smart.

Everything’s going well with my ADT. John, the rep, was very patient with me if I didn’t understand something. He went over it with me without an attitude. He made sure that I felt comfortable in the way he explained things. If I didn’t quite get it, he took the time out to do it even in a different way or hands-on. I’m pretty satisfied so far with my experience. The thing that comes on when it’s unarmed, it’ll tell which door. I have hardware on all three of my doors and sometimes it scares the hell out of me ‘cause there’s another voice. It’ll say, “Door number two,” and I’ll be like, “Oh, jeez.” If I’m in the house by myself and all of a sudden this voice pops up and tells me, “Door number three is open,” and I’m opening it but I’m not expecting a voice. Sometimes I’ll just look for this high noise. It takes some getting used to.

The tech who showed up at my house to install my ADT system explained the whole alarm system to me and what they had. We agreed on three cameras, a motion sensor, and other things. But then, he wasn't knowledgeable. He kept calling his boss asking how to do things. Plus, when he got started, he was missing two cameras, the motion sensor, and the keyless entry. Those were things I paid for upfront. He said he would come back to finish the job on a Thursday but then he was a no show and I didn't get a call. I called ADT and they said the Friday after, the tech would come back. He didn't show up again and ADT didn't call either.
I called ADT again and they made another appointment for that Saturday. Once again, they didn't call and didn't show up. I tried to cancel with ADT but they gave me the runaround like never before. This was because I had three days to get my money back and if I was not satisfied I had six months to cancel my contract without any money that I put into it back. I have faxed them six times and when I contacted one of the lady reps, she said they received my fax and signed off on it. She told me that she would transfer me to accounting and that department said that they never received any fax. I told accounting that I talked to a few other lady reps who said they got the cancellation faxes. Right now, I have no phone numbers and no paperwork. The tech had me sign a contract on his laptop and didn't leave me with anything. I had to look up ADT's number on the internet just to get a phone number for them.

I have never been more dissatisfied with a company's customer service and alarm system in my life. I've had numerous techs come to my house and have been on the phone too many hours with customer service, because there always seems to be an issue with my system; mind you, it hasn't even been installed a year! Not only has the alarm system failed to work properly, but customer service is just as bad, if not worse, than the alarm system.
Whenever I have called to speak to a representative they always apologize and that's basically all they do. After they are done apologizing, they then transfer me to someone else and after a while I realized all they are doing is giving me the run-around. Also, the corporate office told me one thing and when the local ADT provider came to my house to fix the issue, they were unaware of what was actually going on.
ADT's system has been nothing but one big headache. Let's start with the ADT doorbell, waking myself and my wife up all hours of the night because the doorbell wasn't working properly. The final fix was for them to come and install a RING Doorbell because that actually works, not the one that has their name on it. Isn't that sad, not only did they install the new Ring doorbell, but now I had to pay more money for a Ring subscription. Then, let's go to the glass break sensor that goes off randomly all hours of night and day whether the system is armed or not.
My alarm for work goes off at 4 am and the ADT alarm goes off at 12 am and 2 am randomly thus waking me up. Had about 4 techs come to the house to look and assess the problem and they replaced the device 3 times already and there is still an issue! To be honest I wouldn't install this system in my dog's doghouse. They should test the system first in the CEO's house, so he/she can see what it feels like waking up all hours of the night because their system is the worst. I can't wait for my contract to be over; the system will be out at midnight the second my contract is up.

I have heard about ADT for many years and according to advertisements, they provide probably the best protection, which was why I went with them. The pricing is the only concern. If I change to some other service down the road, that would be because of the price. We’re still getting used to the system. We’re trying to turn it on and off. The video is overpriced, but maybe I can still use it. I requested the cancellation of my video surveillance service and the removal of two cameras. I decided that it was good to go again, so I’m trying to get it back. I called Jesus, my serviceman, but he did not call me. Other than that, he is a very nice man and I’m very pleased to work with him.

We started out with me getting a quote from ADT but they said that the only way to get that is when they come out and check out the house. They came within a week and it worked out. The reps were thorough and went over everything they needed to. The other guy had to drill through my wall to put the keypad up but he ended up drilling through my wall going through my laundromat. He told me he would be right back to patch it up but it ended up being almost two weeks. I had to call ADT to get a contractor to get back out here and patch up the hole. It was just that one little mess-up but they fixed it.

I talked to a sales rep over the phone and it was good. But it was a little misleading initially with the pricing and that was difficult. The rep told me I got a $1,500 credit and he didn't tell me how much the actual products would cost. I assumed they would cost equivalent to what I was getting but once a rep got to the door, it was totally different. Everything was really expensive. It should have been said over the phone how much their products would cost me so I have a good idea of what I was getting myself into. It went to $6,000 which is a huge jump from $1,500.
We had to pretty much cut it down in payments because we were eager to have the service, that’s why we called. And we could’ve dialed down a couple of things. We could’ve said we didn’t want this and that for it to be a certain amount of price but we were looking at what the rep preferred us to have versus what we think we should have and I’d rather go with his recommendations. It’s why he’s there. Also, the installation took way longer than I thought it would but it went well.
We have the shock window and the device that would alert us if the window is breached. 9 of 10 times, no one from the outside is gonna open the window so, if it’s broken, then you come inside the window and the alarm won’t go off because the window is still closed. That’s another selling point that we like. We have that in every room in the house.
We also have the device where when you open a window, it would be alerted on every window inside the house and we have two cameras inside the home. Then, we received the Ring doorbell thing and we also got the carbon monoxide detector. We have the device on the outside of the home to know that we set our alarm correctly and when it’s on and off. We also have the light that notifies the police department where is the house that is being burglarized. Overall, the outcome is good.

We had one home security system through Vivint and a month into it, we were very dissatisfied with the system. I learned about ADT when I saw it on TV and in the newspaper and then a lot of our neighbors have it too. We went with it and the sales representative was very nice. He explained everything to us as well. It was great, but I'm not sure how we would get the $100 gift certificate. It was supposed to be sent to my email address and it wasn’t sent to mine. Then, it was supposed to be sent to my husband, and it wasn’t. The rep said something should have been sent three to five days after we paid for the system, but I haven’t received anything yet, and he said he hasn’t.
Still, installing the system looked easy from my point of view. The guy did the windows, the door and the garage and I really like it. Right now, we just pay the $54 a month. Our first bill hadn’t come up yet and he said it’d be a little behind. He also said we can upgrade any time and I'm going to upgrade because I like the cameras. That’s one thing about Vivint. It had the doorbell camera. Even though the guy next door has set it up for the whole damn neighborhood (he’s got eight cameras), my kids is what I'm concerned about. He doesn't know when my kids are supposed to be here or when my kids ain’t, especially one of them.

I wanted my $500 back at once the same way I paid them and what they’re doing is they’re taking the monthly bill off of it. I called a month or so ago and I never got any response. I also e-mailed them but I got no response.

I spent a lot of time doing research. In terms of full service security solutions, ADT is the most solid and has the best reputation. They were up against Deep Sentinel who has a different kind of service with cameras on the outside that are monitored by guards and with artificial intelligence element to it. ADT also has the fire alarms and it combines that full service so I went with them as a base layer. I thought the technician was unbelievably professional, extremely informative, and very helpful. They're gonna be back to add some enhancements and they will run out a couple of things to make sure that we have a satisfactory experience. We also need to make some couple changes before they install a door lock. It's an excellent experience so far.

When I Googled for home security systems, ADT was the first one. I spoke with a representative, and I liked what they said. So, I scheduled an appointment. Everything was wonderful with their sales rep. The installation went very smoothly. The installer was able to mount our cameras, our doorbell, our new door lock, our security system, and the little blue light monitor that’s on the front porch. He was able to do everything in one visit, and it was working perfectly after he left. He demonstrated everything, too. I just moved into a new home and a new neighborhood. It’s a new development, but I'm still not familiar with the area. So, I feel more secure having a security system in the house.

The sales rep was all right, but he really didn’t know a lot. He couldn’t say a lot. So, he got his manager on the phone, and the manager and I talked. I thought we had a nice chat and told him what I needed. However, he never got it to me. It cost me several hundred dollars in insurance because he didn’t get me my certificate when I needed it like he promised. I wasn’t real thrilled with that. The only reason I had the system was the installer. I knew what I was getting and what I wanted. He just had credibility. He did his job correctly and he was conscientious. There are two industries that are rampant with fraud, car business and home security, and I felt I could trust him. It wasn’t the best experience getting it in. It’s been fine once it’s here. One time, I had a door issue. I didn’t know what it was that said, “Door Fault,” and I just reset it, and it went away.

When I bought a home, I just knew that ADT is what I would go with. I’m also from Louisiana and ADT is kinda who everybody uses down there. I went straight online to ADT to call and set up an appointment. But when I signed up for the $99 installation, I didn't really know what it included. I thought it would be more though. It’s just the basic smoke alarms and things. That's not much for protection. $99 installation sounds great but it should be broken down as to what you get with that, how much it would be to add and what it would be when a technician gets there. That should be done at the beginning so that we can know. I would have been better prepared, financially, instead of thinking $99 is the deal and with the $99 deal, you don't have to pay for any equipment. New customers may not know that type of detail.
But the technician went through everything with me and the customer service was great. I like the way that he went through every option that I had. He did it with the prices and I was able to get what I felt was good enough for me to start out. It wasn't the $99 though. That is just for one door and I have three – a garage door, a patio door and a front door. I didn't even include the windows because that was much more. So I'm gonna have to go back in and get the windows done downstairs. I spent at least $300 and I know I'm gonna end up spending more for other things.
Also, I don't know if the technician forgot or if he just didn't have any. But I had to call customer service and order the post to go in my yard. They had to send me those out because he did not install one in there. Nonetheless, the system is great. I really like it. I've even been bragging about the system for a while. I really like the geo option but it has not worked for me. I'll go back online and see if I'm setting it up correctly because it hasn't given me a notification that I'm one mile out and my house isn't armed. I just have to figure some things out, technically. But I do like the option so that's a perk. I also love being able to control my system from my phone. That's really helpful.

We have ADT for multiple houses. But their sales representatives had been quite annoying. We had ADT with our first house and we wanted a simple plan. We had a guy come out and it seemed like he was trying to sell us all these bells and whistles, which we didn't use. In the end, he still sold us a few of them but he was really bad to the point that we put in a complaint. Then, when we bought this current house, which is more of a vacation house, we again wanted a basic plan. A salesman came out and he was very nice compared to the first guy we had who was annoying and sleazy.
I explained what we wanted to this second guy and it was like he wanted to put in 14 different window contacts at 150 bucks a pop. I knew that we had a few glass breaks in our current house and we have a ton of windows which cost 250 bucks a pop. But still, it would've been way cheaper to do just a couple of glass breaks as opposed to window contacts. On top of that, there was no mention at all about giving us any discount given the fact that we had been customers for 12 years. He didn't know that, which I thought was kind of annoying, but at the same time, I told him that and yet there was no discount.
Then, when we bought Frontier and hooked up the internet, we were told that there was some promotional deal through Frontier. So, we called Frontier back and they had a guy come out. He was the one who hooked up our system. So, we ended up not using the guys who came out through ADT directly. We ended up still going with ADT, but we went through Frontier and one of their representatives came out and hooked everything up. But he wasn’t really a salesman. He was one of the installers and he made some recommendations that we didn't take. They weren't outlandish, it's just that I wasn't really looking to have my house fully secured in every possible bell and whistle there is available. But the point is, he wasn’t pushy and was more practical about things. He was also listening more to what we were saying and what we were not saying.
Other than that, my experience with ADT for basic monitoring of the house has been very good. But for me, a basic functionality system is just as practical and functional as a system that has all these hoots and bells and whistles. As for their service, the availability when there were problems with service or breaches, has been very good, too. So, we stuck with them.

People used to try to get in my house, and the alarm will go off, but it would take the sheriff so long to get out here. It would take the home security people I was with so long before they would call me, so I didn't have a good experience with them. Also, the bill I had went up to $469 and some change and I couldn't afford that. ADT talked nice to me and assured me that my bill would stay the same if I went with them, so I did. Plus, it was a little cheaper for me.
Yesterday, I was cooking my supper and when I lay down, I went to sleep. That’s something I don’t usually do, but I have not been sleeping too good until Steve came out here because they had to put my new alarm system in a week ago. I stayed so sleepy because I didn't sleep good at night and when I woke up, I realized I forgot my food. It shocked me because I was smelling all at the same time and ADT was there on point before I could get to the kitchen. I have never had anybody respond that quick. At the time I could get in the kitchen, the signal went off. My phone rung immediately and everything shipwrecked down. I was putting the fire out all at the same time and they wanted to know if I was okay. I told them yes and that my pot caught on fire, but it was out when I answered.
The lady wanted to know if I wanted the fire department to come out and I told her, no, that I just needed to open up the doors. I was doing that while we were on the phone and I turned my ceiling fans on. When the smoke went out, the system went off. All in all, my alarm system is good, but I’m waiting for them to come in. They said from 8:00 this morning till 11:00 because it takes four hours, but nobody has come. They were supposed to come today to hook up my internet and my Wi-Fi, and they were going to put a satellite outside the house so that I will have all of that.
With the system that I’m getting, I can get cameras too. I want that because I live by myself, and I’m 72 years old. They said that my cable company was supposed to come, but the cable company called me on Sunday evening. They said they got everything set and I’m good to go, but I don’t have a code number so I don’t see how everything is good to go. They cancelled the appointment and when I got my letter from AT&T, Saturday, I was thinking that they were going to do everything. Still, I will recommend the system to anybody and I already started doing that. A lot of my godchildren live alone and they are with the same company that I was with and they would keep going up every month with them as well.
I’ve been telling my godchildren about what I got and I told them that they don’t have to get all that I got. I was telling them that when I first got in a place of my own, I could leave my front door open and my window raised all night and sleep and nobody would try to come in. I told them that now, you can’t leave your doors unlocked or your car unlocked. Somebody always tries to come in on you. I feel unsafe. Nowadays, you just don’t feel safe anymore like you used to. I’m not a scary person, but I want to be conscious of what's around me. I feel safer now than I have in a long time and I’m satisfied with the system as long as I know I’m going to be safe.

I was able to de-escalate the situation and all that without any violence or anything but it got my wife a little nervous. Everything was fine with the ADT sales rep I spoke with over the phone. They answered all my questions that I had. They also sounded like they knew their job.
From ADT, we got the window vibration sensors, door sensors and motion sensor. I've also got one camera and the keypad on the wall. Installation went real well. He was real really knowledgeable, and you could tell he actually cared about home security. He just didn’t come and install it. He liked it. It's odd in a good way. He was training somebody, too, and that’s who you want training people. I've already said something to my in-laws about ADT ‘cause they're looking to get a security system. The tech who came here for installation told me, “You have three days to cancel.” That is very different from what they told me. And the other rep also told me I'll get four cameras and a doorbell. But they installed two cameras and one doorbell. I argued with the rep and he agreed to give me two more cameras, the fourth camera he told me he’s gonna talk to the North Dallas Area manager, who then agreed. But they didn’t finish their work on Thursday and even on the second day.
On the fourth day, the manager promised to give me the fourth camera for the outdoors camera, and finally told me there are no charges. I am super busy and I said to cancel, but the manager told me, “No. Don’t cancel it. I will give it to you all those four cameras.” That’s the reason I didn’t cancel it. But cancellation date passed then he said, "I can’t give you indoor and outdoor camera. It’s not our quality,” Why they are giving me two differences or three different information? That just was frustrating. It’s a three year contract and definitely it’s not acceptable.
So now, I don’t have those two cameras. Even one camera I already have is not working. I only have the doorbell, two cameras, one garage door camera and another one at the front yard camera working. They told me it can record everything around that area, but it’s up to 60 feet it can record. Even the camera is not 1080, it's 720, and so is the doorbell camera. The system is good but the problem is it's not fully functioning because of the missing cameras.

The person who came was able to work with me. He got it down from $2,000 to $400 even though I wasn’t supposed to pay anything from what the dude that I talked to at first said. He was also telling me I can pay for almost $500 but I would get a $200 rebate seven days later. When I checked my e-mail to look at the rebate thing, it was telling me I won’t get my money until eight weeks.
Originally, I had called back to cancel everything because there was false information, but they gave me back $300. We're pretty much satisfied with ADT, but there are a lot more companies out there that has more features for cheaper price monthly. We're already paying around 50 bucks a month. The ad, however, was misleading -- I was about crying when he told me the price of the unit. Everything else was great, but that was what upset me the most about. We loved the product but the advertising needs to be better. The installation also went quickly. The guy was here a lot longer than what we thought. He was here for almost four hours, but he was explaining. He spent a lot of time explaining the product to us and how to work it. Because we have so many windows, we have three or four of the glass detection sensors. We have two motion sensors and then we have a camera monitor the garage. And then each door has got a sensor on it that will go off if the door is opened.

I liked that ADT would install everything for free and all I had to pay was the 59.99 monthly payment. It was a good deal. Also, I could check the cameras and receive notifications and everything if I wanted to. Everything went right during the installation and the guys showed me how to do it. Everything is working well with ADT. The only thing is, the rep gave me some discounts and he said that he was gonna give me a Visa gift card for $100 and one for the guy who referred me to it., and I only got the one for me. I never got something for the guy so I could send it to him.

I'm gonna call them and try to see if I could get somebody to take a look at it.

ADT was secured much, which was the reason why I moved to them. I’ve been with them for three years and they handle the customer service better. I was expecting the cost to come down though after my agreement but it never did. Still, I like whatever features I have in my package. ADT is reliable and I’m very happy with them.

I like that with the system, I feel safe and protected. I can use the app too.

In choosing a security for the home, ADT was one of the things that were offered when I had my home inspected. The installer was a nice guy. He was here probably longer than the average time of installation because I asked 500 questions. Also, he showed me the alarm system and the features that he had. The thing that I didn't get that I was gonna try to get was a camera, but it was too much of added expense on top of everything. And I’m still questioning something about the cost. Initially, they had the free equipment and different things and I thought it was gonna be a set price. But then when installation and things came, I found out the extra expense that I have to pay upfront at first before the regular bill comes. That was concerning to me, but we still stuck with ADT.

I was getting ready to be an empty nester, so I decided to get an alarm for the house. The representative answered all the questions that I had over the phone. I was under the impression that I was gonna get one package and then when the other guy got here, all the upgrades threw me off. The basic package didn’t offer what I wanted so I just upgraded. I got the updated keypad along with the monitors and the door camera. They kinda blew my budget a little bit but that was the only problem I had. The installer did a good job.

My neighbors George and Gloria who lived directly across the road from me had ADT and bragged on what a great service it was. They gave me the number and I called. The rep went over the packages that were available and what the monthly cost could be. And of course, that variable with the different packages. She was very thorough. I very much appreciated that because she didn't leave me sitting there, wondering how much am I going to pay, and when are they going to come and put it in. I had all those questions answered almost immediately.
The installer was awesome because he went through the equipment, and we walked through the house and identified the entry points. And then, he sat down and made a list of the various entry points, and he got the equipment and sorted it all out. He explained to me, he would put in the smoke detector in the CO2 detector, as well as the security system, and I was very impressed. He was very knowledgeable and very efficient.
I'm unfamiliar with using a alarm system. I've been away from one for over 25 years. So, for me, it was a relearning experience and ADT's service tech was very patient with me. People have some hesitation and fears about having someone in their home and having to make yourself vulnerable by explaining, “Yeah, these are the doors, and these are windows.” That was the reason that I prompted to call anybody. I had a burglary, and that was why I was talking with George and Gloria. And when I was talking with the gentleman who came to do the installation, he put the sign up in the front yard and explained the alarm systems, how they would go off, and what time limit I had to reset my system. Also, to understand the emergency system if in case I needed someone in the room. It was very professional. I have no problem advising someone else, “Yes, get ADT.”

We were gonna go with the Ring, and I decided to go with the package with ADT. We've been very pleased with it. My wife feels much more protected ‘cause she's having a baby, and that’s the main reason why we got it. She's been able to sleep a lot more. We really like the doorbell because it shows any activity outside of our house. I love the app where we can just go on there and arm our alarm system from there. I also like the little pad that they gave us in our bedroom where I can just arm it from my bedroom, ‘cause if we wanted to, we can also do where we arm it for away. Then we have the motion sensors on the inside of the house, and all I gotta do is turn it off from our bedroom before we walk outside. There's a lot of accessories that ADT has that make things really easy, like the little keypad we got. My wife will take that. She can arm it as she leaves and deactivates it when she comes home.
Brandon did a really good job with the installation. He's a really nice kid. The sales rep was great too. I had a coupon from a long time ago and I ended up holding that. I didn’t know if it has expired or not, but they held true to what they said. The only thing that I didn’t like was they had promised a $100 visa, but I have to mail in something, and I thought that was kinda dumb. I thought they should have sent us that in the mail instead of us having to mail something out to get that ‘cause we just spent $4,000 on an alarm system. It was just very confusing and I didn’t like that aspect of it. Just make that easier.

So far, I'm very happy with the service of Protect Your Home. The installation of the the security system was clean and the guy who came out to do it was great. His name was Mark and he told me to call if I had any issues. Yesterday, I called because our door alarm is not working. But it went to a recording saying someone would call me back and they haven't called me back. Then, Mark called me back and asked if I got a hold of them. He was making sure I got it right and I told him that I was waiting on them to call me. He said that if they don't call me, he'll try to go through his manager and see if they can get me a new lock. They’re great. I love them. I had them at a previous house, and I’ve never had any issues with them, so I chose them this time and it's why I’m staying. I’ve been with them for three years and they have taken care of me. Customer service is very helpful as well. Normally, when my smoke detector has a low battery, it beeps at me to replace it. The rest of them all do that, and I replace the battery and everything is good. On one particular time though, one of my smoke detectors had a low battery and I don’t know if I was gone and I wasn’t there to notice it was warning that it was getting low. It must’ve gotten to the point where the alarm just went off to ADT and they thought I was on fire. ADT called me and they called the fire department.
We have a volunteer fire department, and they would charge you if they are gotten up and sent out for nothing. It was 3:00 in the morning, the alarms were going off, and the phone was ringing. I naturally leaped out of bed and I walked around the house. When I was talking to them on the phone, I didn't understand what was going on and they told me to check my office. That was the area that was notifying them that there was smoke and fire, and I told them I was standing in the office and there was no smoke or fire. It was so messed up that I had to have ADT on the phone as I changed the battery so they could redo something on their end. It was still flashing that there was a problem in the house and I told them to turn the alarm off because I was seriously okay.
I also asked them to tell the fire department not to come, that it was a false alarm. They did all that then the fire department called me and they wanted to know for sure there wasn’t a fire. They asked if I wanted them to come out and double check, that there wasn't something somewhere. I explained that we’ve come to the conclusion that I had a low battery and that was the problem. They didn’t come out, thankfully. The next day, I asked ADT why the smoke detectors were notifying them that I had a low battery and why they weren't chirping in the house for me to fix the battery. I asked what happened that it went so far as the fire department needed to come out as well, but they weren’t sure.
That was the first time I ever had any trouble and they handled it very quickly. Other than being woken up at 3:00 in the morning and then I couldn't go to sleep because of all the “waah” going on (which wasn’t their fault), I have no complaints. My smoke alarm was just was being odd and they did everything they were supposed to do. After that one, it never happened again. The smoke detectors have done the proper thing and chirped, and I’ve gone and changed the battery.

I knew about ADT for years. The person that helped me set up on the phone was fine. But the rep told me a couple of things that weren’t exactly correct either. The guy that came to my house hardly had any tools. He didn’t have a concrete nail and a metal bit. He didn’t know much of what he was doing. I had to give him my tools and borrow some from my neighbors for him to use. And then the put the sensor on my garage door because that’s what I’m worried about the most. I can’t open my garage door all the way now to even get my van in there because of the way he put it. If I do that, it will yank it right off. And then last night, I came in my house 11:30 at night and the sensors he put on my wall for my motion detector and both of my lamps had fallen. So, I am not happy with my service.
I called for the garage door and ADT sent another guy out who said that’s just the way those work. That can’t be true or nobody will have them because they couldn’t open the garage door all the way. So, that’s not fixed and the second guy that came out must not know what he did with that. I called at 11:30 last night when it happened. I took pictures. I took a video. I called and said something about that this morning, and made my complaint about my lamps. But as bad as my installation was, they should give me back my installation money too. I was not expecting that from ADT.
I know how to arm and disarm the system. That’s about it. I get it that when I’m home, I hit away. When I’m gone, I hit just the arm. But with all the other features, the tech didn’t explain to me about how I could make my garage be alarmed all the time. But he didn’t show me that stuff, so I don’t know how to do it. There’s no book for it.

He also warned us when he was gonna make noise, so we just left the house. It was great. I also like the app. It’s very user-friendly. However, it’d be great to look into making it less expensive. I saw this working arrangement from my email. Usually, they send us offers that say, “We’re in partnership with these people, so if you get involved with them, you get a discount,” so I signed up. After that, a sales rep got my number and he contacted me. Ultimately, I got the service. But he was a little aggressive for my liking and would persistently call while a client was in front of me. That kind of annoyed me. He had limited knowledge other than the fact that he basically highlighted the promotion that was going on and what I could benefit if I signed on. He connected me to the manager who also had limited knowledge but could make decisions regarding what discounts I could get.
The contractor that came out was a nice guy but what I was told before I agreed was different from what he told me. I almost let him go because I was upset that, all of a sudden, I had to be making decisions to pay almost $600 on the spot. That kind of angered me. I was told that 100 and something dollars for the first day, and then subsequently, I would get a bill. I wasn’t told I was gonna pay this upfront. Then he said that it’s the system that decides how many cameras I can get. I thought I'd get three upfront, and then if I needed an extra one, I'd get one at a later date because I’m not financially in a position to do that now. He was confused and didn't know what to say because it is what it is.
Ultimately, because he was even in the middle of it when that happened, and I was already on my way out, and I’m like, “If I have to wait for him to uninstall all of these, then it’s gonna take most of my time.” We came into an agreement. He said that he could call and then we have this break up into three different installments. I said fine but I was upset ‘cause I don’t want to enter into something knowing what I know, and then all of a sudden, this gets thrown at me. I am currently dissatisfied through the processes from overly aggressive sales technique to inconsistency in communication between the sales and technical team who came out to install, that I have to get a bigger bill, even though I didn’t plan for that.
When I came back home, I had to make the same sales pitch to my family for them to buy into it, and then, all of a sudden, it just changed. My family asked what was happening. I didn’t tell them this. I said that was not what they told me. I feel like I should be protecting my family and I put them up for things like that. Now the cameras that were installed had gaps in recording. Last night, someone was going out of my house. I, every now and then, watches that to see what’s going on. Then he walks out of my patio from my back porch. The camera captures it. Then I didn't see when he came back inside.

There were no issues when we signed up with ADT. But there were issues that came after. The initial installation went okay. It was on the 4th that the system was installed, but then on the 10th of this month, we started having problems because we have a doorbell camera installed and it kept ringing incisively and it wouldn’t stop. We called back the technician who had installed it because he said, “Call me if there's any problems and I'll come right back. I'll handle it.” That was on a Wednesday. He came back on that Friday and then attempted to fix it. It seemed to be fixed, and then he left.
About an hour later, it started doing the same thing all over again. We called him a couple of times and he kept saying, “Oh, I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna take care of it,” and he never came nor followed through. So, then we switched to the 800 number and called and made an appointment for someone to come back out and to repair it. That guy came out on Monday of this week and, thus far, we haven’t had any additional problem. It seems to be working.

ADT did resolve our system outage but it did take 15 days for the repairs. This is the first bad experience we had and hope to see better response times in the future if needed. There are reasons we choose to hire a security company and rely on their advertised 24-7 monitoring to keep our property safe.
Original Review: June 15, 2020
ADT advertises 24 - 7 security monitoring. Our system has been down for 2-weeks with no communication on a date to fix. You can not rely on their service/system for security any longer. They used to be the best but now 3 weeks out to repair a down system. When I spoke to their person who schedules these appointments his reply was simply, "3 weeks out for repairs regardless of your security needs." Sounds like they are struggling to keep up with service- beware. Very disappointed, there are better suppliers for security out there.

The ADT sales rep whom I worked with was very nice and knowledgeable. I went with them and their tech came and installed my system that same day. The installation went well. However, there are times when somebody knocks on our front door and I hear a chirp sound like the door has been opened. But then, the door hasn't been opened. One day, I left the house to go to work and I set my security system. Somebody came and knocked on my door and they called me from the front. Those persons asked me some other things and while I was on the phone with them, I was getting another phone call. When I got off the phone with the people at my door, I saw that the other phone call was from ADT.
I called them back and their reps told me that they were getting an alarm that somebody was trying to break in through my front door. I told them that the person supposedly trying to break in was just somebody from the city who came and knocked. I thought that person must've really pounded on the door but that was not the case at all. So, I shut the alarm off and came home. Since then, other people have come and knocked on my door. This issue doesn't happen every time though. Even so, something is up with that part of my system and now, I don't feel comfortable with setting my alarm when I leave. So I called ADT and I got transferred around. While I was talking to a rep, he put me on hold and I got cut off. I didn't have time for those issues that day so I moved on.
When I go to bed at night, I set my alarm. I figure nobody should be knocking on my door at midnight or at 3:00 in the morning so I should be safe doing that. Still, I haven't gotten in the habit of turning off the system when I get up first thing in the morning and I'm half awake. There has been one time that I opened my door and that sounded the alarm.

Just about everything about it is nice. We got window sensors and some glass breakage. We also got door sensors plus the doorbell. When the system rings, it just calls you and then you see who’s at the door and I talk to them and stuff. At the other house, we had cameras and stuff around the house. Here, we got the glass breakage in most of the windows on the backside of the house where it automatically sets it off. If somebody bumps the window, tries to break it, or if they open it up, it sets the alarm off. I like that part of it. We didn’t have it before.

We purchased a security system for our kids. We wanted to be able to monitor them and see they're doing. At the same time, we wanted to protect our home. I received an ad from ADT and I called them. Then, a technician came in, talked to me about the options, and went over the cost. After that, they installed the equipment for me and it was pretty easy. So far, the system has been working as expected.

ADT has been for a long time in the industry. Their rep was great. He explained everything to us and once he installed the pad and everything, he told us how to navigate it. So, I was happy with that. It took him a little while because it was a brand-new home. He had some issues with his own system. Other than that, there were no major issues. I have an app so I can just lock down the house or if we’re away, we can do it from there. We can also watch it from our app if something’s going wrong in the house.

There were a couple of times, ADT didn’t have the manpower if something happens as far as the police department. I depend on mostly my neighbors if that alarm ever goes off. They got three different contacts. One of my contacts is right there in Beaver Dam and they will call him first, then me, and then my husband. We’ve had them go over there and check it when the alarm went off.
Also, we have a little sign out there in the yard and the wind has destroyed that twice. They sent me one and then they said I would have to pay for them to be replaced after that. And I got new windows and they said they would only allow me five or six stickers to go in the windows and that’s all they could send me. I thought that was a little fishy. The battery outside has had to be replaced twice already. But the last serviceman that we had was so good and we really appreciated his thoughts. The first serviceman changed the battery and that was it but this guy went through everything to make sure everything was on the up and up.
Hello Jennifer. Thank you for your review. I'm not sure what you mean by manpower when something happens? We respond and notify the proper authorities after the alarm is received and going through the contact list set up. For example, if you have 5 friends registered to be called before the authorities, this will delay the time it takes for us to contact them. Depending on your Police department, some may require up to 2 contacts be made when an alarm is triggered. Once we notified the authorities, if you have any concerns with their response time to get to your home, we recommend calling that police department directly to inquire as to why there was a delay.
In regards to the Yard signs and Window decals your are allowed 2 free signs, and decal packs, every year. You can request these to be sent to you via MyADT.com. If you have trouble accessing MYADT.com, please give us call at 1-800-238-2727 so we can assist. Thank you. -Andrew

So far, everything is going good with ADT other than a couple of times I've almost set the alarm off. I do forget to cut it off in the morning and almost reach for the door handle. The initial sign up and purchase of my system was good. The installer was very nice. The guy did a really good job and he was extremely nice. He worked with me on what I could afford and what I could do. I didn't get what I wanted, but I couldn't afford it. I got motion sensors in the house and the door sensors, so everything is good that way. I like the peace of mind that the system gives me when I go to bed at night because I live by myself. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I don't have to worry about if somebody decides to come in. It would at least set the alarm off first.

The installer installed the wireless and whatever needed to be done so he did it very well. It was done in a couple of hours.

The people I talked to over the phone were professional and nice. The only thing that I didn't like too much is first off, they called me but then they were asking for my name, date of birth, Social Security number and credit card. That's usually not how I'm used to things working, but they were professional enough that I felt like I could give it to them. One person did the installation and he did a great job. He was really trying to help us get the most for our money and he explained everything really well. He went through how to use things and he talked about the different options of what we could get. He was very friendly. So far, I like the system a lot. The only thing I don't like is we have the newer model of the actual little home base and the chimes either talks or it plays like a song. I would rather it be like the old chime where it's like a small alert. But overall, I'm satisfied with my experience. It was quick and easy.

They said they'd have it by the 11th, but they said they'd be trained up on it in a week or so. They said that they'd be back out by the end of the month to install it. I'm not too happy with that but the system does the job that I need to do.

There was very little as far as price was concerned, but there was a promotional with ADT and I have a history. We were with ADT prior to moving to this new location a couple of years ago and we felt ADT was more economical in their monthly subscription. They tried to set up a meeting initially but we were unavailable. The next available meeting for the technician to come out and have a discussion with us was about three weeks away. So, it was quite a long time between the initial inquiry and actually having the technician here to discuss the options. But when he came out, he ran through some stuff and we thought that was a reasonable option over and above what we were using at the present time.
Because we had an existing system, there were certain cables and existing wires that they could use. But then they had to install a number of other lines as well. The gentleman that was here did a really good job. He obviously has been doing it for some time, knew his subject matter and was able to give us a good indication of what all the features were. It's working pretty well.

I had had ADT many years ago and I liked the system. I didn’t want a really expensive system and anything that was gonna be hard to use. I got ADT again and their customer service has been very good, so far. The boy that came out was very nice, really good, and knew what he was talking about. The installer could have been better but he was fine. One reason that I did have the system installed was I was planning a trip out-of-state, and I knew I was gonna be gone for several weeks, which I'm still gone. The first night scared the crap out of me because I was sound asleep at 2:00 AM and the alarm went off. And so, they called me and it was okay but I couldn’t go back to sleep. Then, I turned it off. They told me how to disarm it.
Shortly after that, I was working in my office and the alarm went off again, only it was at a different door. That scared me even more. So, I called my son on that one, and he came down and went through the backyard and looked all over. My grandson said, “I think that you can't do anything.” I said that it could be the sensors. I just thought, “Well, if it was, why didn’t they tell me that this could have happened or it might happen.” It might save me from having a heart attack. I'm assuming that they went back and checked everything out while I'm gone because I set up an appointment for my daughter-in-law to meet them there. She said everything was fine. So far, so good. I'm satisfied.

Some other companies wanted a higher credit score than what I had but ADT approved me for what I needed. Also, ADT was the biggest and the best in the industry. Their rep was open and honest and he listened to me ‘cause I had a lot of concerns. I asked like 2,000 questions and he was very patient. He explained everything a few thousand times. He was upfront with me. But things didn’t go exactly the way I thought they would.
I absolutely love the cameras. I specifically wanted three outdoor cameras, and ADT was able to give that to me. That was something that a lot of companies were not able to give me. But I did not realize that I had to set them up to record when they saw motion. I thought they would do that automatically. I had an instance where somebody got into my car and my car was visible from the doorbell camera but when I reported it to the police, there was nothing to view because I didn't have that setting marked. That was very disappointing
I had to put up a lot more upfront cost than what I was planning for. I was initially told that I would be able to split the payments for the equipment onto two different cards. After the person installed the camera and he called to get them activated, the person who was working from home said that we couldn't do split payments because we were not an office. So, my dad had to wire me money to cover the cost. I struggled to make it happen and I literally drove myself broke to get those cameras.
The initial person that I called to inquire about ADT said that I would get two $100 gift cards which would offset the cost of my equipment. He said that it would take two weeks to get the gift cards. But he didn't say that. I had to mail in my contract to this company with a check for $4.95 per gift card and their contract that I signed said it would take eight weeks and not two. So, I liquidated every dime I had because I thought that I got $200 coming back in two months that I had to pay 5 bucks a card for. It was a nice marketing gimmick, but that might have been a game-changer if I would have known that I wouldn’t have those for two months.

ADT is well-known and at the time I chose them, they had a special. You can get service through your cable but other companies don't have the connection with the police or whatever's needed, whereas ADT is nationwide. That's the reason I went with them. But I wish I didn't get the system, to begin with. ADT was not clear that I was stuck paying for three years. As soon as I'm up, I'm done because I never used the system. Also, their customer service kinda sucks. They could improve on the attitude. If you call in and you have some questions, it's like you're bothering them. I've gotten that a few times. They could be friendlier.

ADT is everywhere. The prior owners of the house had them before too. I don’t have to set the alarm by hand and I like that. Installation went very well. However, I’m not too happy with the fact that they portray it as a certain way, and when they get here, it’s something totally different. What they’re advertising is if you have a landline, which they don’t specify, so when the guy comes here and then tallies everything up, now he’s talking Wi-Fi. It threw me for a loop when the guy came here and gave me a totally different price. It's not his fault though but I wasn’t too happy about that.
It didn’t matter to me ‘cause I do need the alarm, but that’s something wrong. They shouldn’t be doing that, and this is not the first time. They did that to my sister-in-law, too. She was telling me that since she didn’t have a landline, they wouldn’t do it for her. Plus the price they gave was for a landline, and that’s not right. That’s cheating the customer. They're a great company, but they need to straighten that out because if you’re gonna advertise something, make sure you’re advertising it correct. Don’t surprise me when you get here.

I moved to a new home so we switched over the alarm system that was here. That was easy. I didn’t have to do anything. The technician from ADT did the work. It took him about two hours and I was satisfied with that. One of the main reasons I chose ADT was the longevity of the company. It's also what I’m familiar with. I was with them for about three years some time ago. I would recommend the company to someone but I would try to give them a heads-up on the money that’s really needed at the time of installation. It ended up being a lot.
When I initially called, the rep told me that once the technician got here that the technician would be able to go over the pricing and go into more detail with me. I was okay with that but they also wanted me to give them $100 and I wasn’t okay with that. I was just calling to get information and, already, they wanted me to give money. I hadn’t even decided on whether or not I was gonna take the service. But they did waive it. However, I don’t think the installation person knew that he was supposed to tell me about the packages either. He thought he was just here to install and I hadn’t made a decision on whether or not I was going to get the service. But that aside, everything went fine. I had three doors secured and I have one motion detector, two glass breaks, three key fobs and just a regular keypad, not the touch screen.

We set up an appointment and the man came out. He was very nice, courteous and professional with what he did. He told me everything that he was doing. Every time he found a loop, he called his boss and talked to his boss and the boss talked to him. Then he went back to work. He did everything right. He told me that if I needed him, I should not hesitate to call him and he would come out. Before I go to bed, I set the alarm. Then, I have back door and front door protection. Then he got something up over the door and going in upstairs. So, I feel better.
I'm just getting used to the alarm because I'm forgetting that on the door and it goes off. I never had an alarm in my house before but it's good and it's working out. There are no lights out there and it's bad over here in my neighborhood. Last night, somebody tested the door or did something to my screen door last I heard it. So, I called 911 and they came out and looked all around the house. Then, I heard police talking to the guy that parked in front of my house. The police left and 30 minutes later, the guy came back. But still, I like that I have alarms on the doors and the windows. There’s one over the other door that’ll give you a heart attack if it goes off.
However, I was wanting two cameras – one on our door that we enter all the time and one on the backside of the house where all my stuff is out now. I tried to talk to a representative but he didn’t let me get a word in. He wouldn't shut up. He talked over me and I didn't like that. He wouldn’t even give me the price. He said he had to finish his thing before he could give me a price. I haven't ever heard that said before in my life and I've talked to a lot of people on the phone. But if ADT gets somebody who wants to talk to me and explain to me what they can do for me, I’m ready. They are really good and I would recommend them. And today, I’m still worried that if I put the code and then next day, I feel that the alarm would start if I walk to the bathroom because I turned it on. But the man said, “No, no, no. Just go ahead. And really, you have security that if somebody else can break in, then you can hear it also. The alarm system will go on.” But other than that, so far, I’m happy.
The only thing I’m not happy is that I usually have AT&T Life for the big house. And I’m having problems because I get bills, getting paying if I draw from the bank. That’s another 55-plus. I had that service for a long, long time. Before ADT and installed this alarm, the tech said, “I’m trying to help you.” He did as much as he could, but they didn’t listen to me. So, I’m scared that I would go to the bank and cancel the AT&T Life, then it would affect my phone. For whatever reason, it affects my phone when that has nothing to do with my phone with the alarm system. I haven’t had the alarm system for a long, long time. So, I’m trying to see if they would reimburse that.
I have tried then but they said, “No. You need to do it online.” I said, “Well, it’s not fair what I’m going through because now I have two payments, the one from the new security plus the old security, that it was already shut down.” They already cut it but they sure did not cut it from the bank. I needed security because we had trouble with people breaking in our home. I called ADT then because their name was probably the biggest. I saw an advertisement in the paper, something about for a basic price, you would get the system. So, I called them first and the lady in the line gave me a super deal, so I took it. However, I was very unhappy with them. They sent a subcontractor who would not honor the deal that I was given over the phone. I did not have anything in writing. They just talked in kind of a double talk. And the way they presented the deal, it was not straightforward at all. So, I initially put in a lot of sensors on each window in the house. Then when I was talking to some friends, they said, “No, you really do not need that much.”
So, I tried to call them back to take out some of the sensors because it was too expensive for my budget. And the subcontracting company was very busy, and it took a long time to get them back. But he finally came back. But I still felt like I did not get the deal that I was told I would get. This was a bad experience. I’m probably going to cancel their service in the near future. Some people, nevertheless, have good experience with ADT. But, this subcontractor is notorious for being bad. They are unscrupulous business people. I have since heard of other companies that are better. You should check the reviews better. Do your research. Other companies are just ruthless to meet their quotas and their sales quotas. They will do anything. It is incredible.

We were just looking for a company that could use our current built-in system. And ADT is the one that matched up and so it just worked out. The ADT sales rep was helpful and just gave us what we needed. Installation went great. The installer just had to install a few things 'cause I said our home was a new build and a security system installed. But it went fairly smoothly. It's great and it has been really easy to use especially with the phone. We almost only use it.

The installation guy was really good. He installed two places of ours. The service is good as well and we've had no issues. With their reliability and name, we knew that the system was in place to do what we needed it to do. I like also the access for the ADT Go where you can track with phones.

We have another brand in California and we weren't really happy with it. ADT is the industry standard so we went with it. The installers, Kendrick and Anthony, were both very professional and did a fantastic job. I could not have asked for nicer guys. Initially, we were not going to be able to get our daughter's alarm system installed that day. They had to wait until this next month or so. They made a phone call with the supervisor then they went to my daughter's house and were there for another four hours. Their attitude was great.
I've set the alarm off a couple of times accidentally in our house and then I had to go back and figure out how to fix that, which was no big deal. It was easy enough to do it and I didn't have to call the cops. But in my daughter's house, the doorbell started going off for no apparent reason. I went over there and disconnected it in the home and that fixed that. Then I thought it was the battery that might have gone bad or the doorbell was bad when they put it in. I looked at it and I didn't have any idea how to put a battery there. I'm not gonna mess with it because that probably would void the warranty that was why I called Kendrick and told him about it. He said that there was no battery in that doorbell and that I needed to do an internet speed check. I had to download the app to do that and I told him the result was very low. He said that it was not getting a strong internet signal to make the doorbell work.
I called AT&T then I got somebody on the line that knew what they were doing and spoke English and I could understand them. They said that they were gonna boost my daughter's internet speed and we should have no problem. Well, it's still not working and that's probably an AT&T thing. That has nothing to do with ADT. But the system at my daughter's house still is not working properly. My wife told me to call ADT and tell them either to get out there and fix it or give us our money back and take the equipment back in both houses. We spent $9,000 that day and it's not on credit. It needs to work. My daughter lives by herself in a nice neighborhood. I'm not as concerned, but I want her to be protected as well.

The ADT salesperson promised some stuff that didn’t deliver. I was told on the phone that they were gonna use the existing equipment we had in the house and when the installer came, he didn’t use any of the equipment. He put all new stuff in so, that was $1,200 worth that I had to pay for that I wasn’t really prepared for. Now, I have two sets of sensors on all my windows and all my doors because all the old stuff are still there.
When the girl was selling me the system, she told me they were gonna throw in an extra key fob so my wife could keep it on her nightstand. She didn’t tell me that to get the key fob service, there was an extra fee that was not included in the 27.99 a month monitoring. The customer service after the fact has been fine as well as the installers. It was just that initial sales contact. I’m under contract now and I have no choice so I’m gonna keep the alarm system but if I can go back and do it again, I probably wouldn’t have gone with ADT knowing all this upfront.

There was ADT here before we moved in. We called up because we really needed it to keep our grandson from falling because we have a pool in the back. I was putting alarms on the doors so we'd know when he went in and out. Our grandson is getting older now that we kind of watch him. But we don't set the system often because we don't have a lot of problems here compared to some areas. My husband's been turning it on but we don't do that a lot. He has trouble getting the thing to work right. It's just one more too many things.
Switching over, I pretty much had to change it all because it was a very old system. When the wireless one was done, I told the guy I had a problem with that. But I already said that and he did not tell me the cost of doing it wirelessly. I already had it set up here with wires and I didn't need to go wireless. There wasn't any reason to do that other than the fact that the guy made a lot more commission on it. I then had a bigger charge every month after it started running. I had the guy take it and go back to the wired system which is fine. It’s through the phone lines because we still have them. That's how the system is still working. I figured most thieves today don't even what the phone lines are. It may have been a problem in the past. But wireless is more of a problem like getting interference and getting blocked.
Thieves understand to go to your router. It's easier than they understand, “I gotta cut the wires.” Today, young thieves don't know anything about old phones. I didn't worry too much about it and we weren't doing it because we had any break-ins. We were doing it initially to make sure we could tell when my grandson would leave the house and go into the backyard. We were trying to keep track of it.
We go to Florida once in a while but I haven’t gotten our watcher, John, to turn the system on even when we’re down there. We’re gone a lot and we have a lot of neighbors close by. They're here all winter and they keep an eye on things. Also, John comes in here and brings our mail in. The system is something he has to turn off. He would have to change the code once in a while but he didn’t do it. He didn’t wanna mess with it although I think he should. We can do it but I’ve got too many things on my mind to be able to keep track of this right now. I keep telling John that he really needs to keep remembering how to do it. He has to look it up to remember how to set it up again, make sure the code’s in there, and make sure he knows the code. I said, “We need to change the codes when we go to Florida and have the guy that comes in, so he knows what the code is.” I didn’t get him to do it last year.
Other than that, our system should work just fine. We haven't had any issues. If we have some break-ins in the neighborhood, my husband would start using it because he can do it. He didn't set it up but it’s there. We will set it up if we have to and make sure it’s working well. We set it up the other night when we went to a funeral. My husband said it was the time we really needed to put the system on. The system is a little more than I wanna figure out to do right now. But I don't think it's that complicated. It just is for me right at the moment.

I moved into a house that already had ADT. There was a panel and behind it is a big hole. So I thought I would keep the hole and the panel. I didn't want to take the panel down and have to put a picture over the hole because I rent this house. I'm not gonna fix the hole. The sales guys came out to my house to talk to me and they were younger than myself and kind of green. One guy really knew a lot but the other guy didn’t know a whole lot. However, when I had initially called and said I wanted ADT, they said they would get somebody out here the next day and I was pleased with that.
The sales guys pretty much gave me the best they could do but when they told me the price, I was like, "Holy crap! I can't afford that." So we knocked it down a bit to where I could afford it. The installation took a little while, a couple of hours, but they did a lot of stuff and they did a really good job. They also explained the equipment that I got and how it works and they showed me how to navigate through the panel.
But I called on the third day of my contract with the full intention of canceling it because my wife hates setting the system. She says it's dumb and I really got it for my mother-in-law who is at the house a lot and she’s home alone. If she falls, it’s just to make sure she’s safe. I talked to a guy and he asked me what the deal was. I told him my wife didn't want to pay for the service and I, being an idiot, listened to his sweet talk and accepted it. He said he would give me three months of the service for free, which is 170-something dollars.
Also, I was under the impression that there was a 30-day thing and I guess through ADT, that is correct. But I was not told that ADT owns this Defender company and 13 months of my thee-year contract is with Defender, and Defender wouldn’t honor the 30 days. The guys who came out didn’t even have Defender shirts on. They had ADT shirts on. So I was under the full understanding that I was dealing with ADT and that my contract was with ADT. That aside, they were super nice and cool. They explained everything really well. They didn’t really explain the contract very well but nobody really ever does.
In fact, I got no issues with Defender. Every time I call and talk to people, all those people are awesome. The guy I talked to said that if there was a 30-day policy, he would honor it but they don’t have that in their contract. On the other hand, everyone I talked to from ADT was rude. I didn’t like them. I got transferred to people that won’t even help me. I got hung up on and was left on hold for three hours. It was horrible. I was only a 10-day customer and they were treating me that way because I told them I wanted to cancel the service because I was dissatisfied. So ADT really did me wrong and I’m kinda upset that I couldn’t get out of the contract. I’m kinda stuck with it for now. I would tell others to look elsewhere first – places that don’t have sneaky contracts and third party companies installing equipment in your house.

The representative was nice. However, she was very misleading. The initial contact was over the phone. I called and said I was interested. She set up an appointment for me and I had asked her what the appointment would entail. She said a representative was gonna come out and explain the options and what would be best suited for our home. She couldn't give me any pricing, which I understood all depends on the system you get so that was kind of post-decision. But I had specifically asked her whether I would need to have a decision that day or if we could sit and think about it. She said that the rep would come out, do the estimate and give us the numbers, and then they will set up a second appointment to come out for installation after we decide to move forward.
When the guy came out to show us the product and the systems that he was recommending, we weren't fully moved in the house yet. We were still in the moving process. So I told him I wasn't trying to be rude but since I had a million and one things going on, I was gonna work and talk to him. He showed me some stuff and I liked what I saw. I told him to let my wife and I sit down, talk about it and go over numbers then I would get back with him for installation date. He looked at me like I had said something surprising. He said, "Well, today is the installation date. You need to pick your package today and I install it today." I told him that's not what the lady on the phone said.
I talked to him and apologized for the hassle and the miscommunication but I told him I would just need him to come back out. He got his supervisor on the phone and they started kinda finagling with numbers. Ultimately, it turned into high pressure sales tactic. Basically, if I didn't buy that day, I was not gonna get the equipment discount or credit and I was gonna have to pay all these extra fees if they come back out. Having that dropped on me that day was unexpected and unappreciated. Ultimately, just to save the equipment credit, I went ahead and got some of the essentials for the system. I like the system and the options. I do like being able to bring it up on the phone. But I would have postponed moving forward of getting it. The sales guy who came out was very polite and professional. He was just doing his job.
But looking back, I really wish I hadn't done it just because my mind wasn't where I wanted it to be. I don't feel like I got the system that I really wanted just because of how quick it all happened. I'm gonna end up paying a monthly bill for something that I'm not even utilizing. The system is here and it's all plugged in on the garage. But it's not installed yet because I told him I would call him back when I had time to deal with an installation. Also, after running numbers, just trying to catch up from all the front money buying the home, I actually can't afford the system. But on that day, I didn't have time or the mental capacity to sit down and run through all the numbers to make sure I was doing the right thing.

The installation of my ADT system went well. I didn't have internet at the time so I only had the doorbell put in the other day. Plus, I had some windows replaced and ADT's tech came and put the glass breakage stuff back on. The doorbell has been a nice feature that I can bring up on my phone. However, I have a strange message showing up in my email stating that my camera is at the low end of its battery. I don't understand why that is the case as the camera is powered by electricity. ADT has a clause in their contract that allows them to increase the price of service randomly. It says that if I don't agree with the increase, I could give them a call. Every time I've done that, they've eliminated the increase. Still, it's annoying that they have that clause. There was a time when I didn't catch that and I couldn't get my rate back to where it originally was. If people don't catch it, they end up paying more for a contract that they thought was a fixed price. At this point, I think their service is fine and their security system works. But there could be a point when I decided not to go with ADT in the future.

I wanted a loud, audible alarm. It takes 7 to 30 minutes for the police to get there so I knew that a silent alarm is a waste of money and most alarm companies are silent. I have ADT and it's a good system. I got a system that I can tweak but the stuff I wanted was more expensive than what I wanted to pay. They showed me a $4,000 system and then it was 50 bucks a month. I was originally told that it was gonna be 39 a month. It was almost as high as I was expecting.
The system is easy to use. In my experience, alarms aren't complicated. But I wanted something very specific and one that would actually call the police. But it's a little overpriced for what it is. I'll just create my own system and add my own stuff on my own. Other than that, the installers were good. They explained everything clearly and if I had questions, they did a good job trying to get my answer. I'd recommend ADT as a company but I would definitely advise people to look around 'cause I know everybody's needs are different.

ADT was the first provider I saw and it had a pretty high rating, so I went with it. The very first person I talked to in customer service when they were setting up the thing told me everything I needed to know. I said I just wanted the basics and she said they have a promotion where there's a free setup and installation if you just get the very basic. I also wanted it for the home insurance discount and she answered, “Okay. Well, if that’s all you’ll get, it won’t cost you anything out-of-pocket, just the whatever, setup, or installation, or whatever service call, whatever fee it was.” It was 89 bucks or something like that. I had no issue with that. But then when we get to the service part, that’s where it went downhill really quickly.
The technician was an hour late. I called ADT, and nobody could find out where he was. He finally called me back after about an hour and a half. Then he wanted me to come back to where we were supposed to meet. And he said, “I’m really good at what I do. It won’t take me long.” And so, I was like, “All right. I’ll meet you back over there.” He came back and was here for two hours trying to sell me stuff. When he walked in the door I said, “Hey, she said it won’t cost me anything except for the fee I’ve already paid. And all I need is the basic stuff and the discount on the home insurance.” He said, “I understand that.”
But then he walks around the house, looks at everything and then he starts trying to sell me glass break stuff for all my windows. He started out at $1,400 and I said, “I told you I just needed the basic.” So, then he cut it in half. I said, “I can’t come out-of-pocket with anything right now.” So, then he brings some more stuff off, 300 bucks. I said, “The lady said it will not cost me anything out-of-pocket when you come here today.” He said, “Well, I don’t know who told you that, but they’re crazy because that’s now how it’s gonna be.” So I answered, “Well, then I don’t need anything.”
He did some more stuff on that iPad and said, "Magically, nothing out-of-pocket today." He got the system in and showed me how it worked, and it’s very simple. I understand it. But that technician made this experience where I wouldn’t recommend ADT to anybody else. They also didn’t leave any signs in the yard saying it’s protected by ADT either. But when it comes to the system I had no problems with it. I use my apps on it. The kids can even use the app on it to turn off the system. It’s very easy to navigate. Also sales and everybody I’ve talked to on the phone has been great and easy to understand.

The sales part was not good. I spent a lot of time on the call, initially, with two different people. The first one was from when I called the 800 number and they pitched me a bunch of stuff. Then they talked to their manager and the manager came in with a special deal just for me. It’s frustrating that I spent so much time on the phone with them and then when the installer came out here, he had no idea what that conversation was. So it didn’t matter because there was no communication between the technician and the salesperson. It was all out the window. I was moving so I had a lot of other stuff going on and I couldn’t find the piece of paper I had taken the notes with during my initial sales call. So it wasn’t what I expected at all. But I’m sure that happens all the time because it seems like it was pretty routine from the way the guy was talking about it.
The service is okay and the equipment is decent. But there is probably better stuff. For example, I know there are smaller window alarm things that are more modern looking and not as bulky. I got the older version and for what I’m paying, it’s not satisfying. The price is kind of average as far as every other place but it's more than what I wanted and expected to pay, especially from the initial sales call.

We were very happy with ADT's service. Any installer who came to our home has been very clean and respectful. During the pandemic, they have taken the precautions necessary. However, compared to some of the other companies in terms of product, they could be a little bit more updated in terms of their panels, options, and the camera. When we wanted to do the upgrade, it took us about four calls to get our order done and to have somebody come in and install. We had three different quotes done and by three different people and every time we had to start over again. There was a lack of communication but you also have to take into consideration the pandemic and everybody working at home. Everything else was perfect.
We had an issue with our new install and we weren't able to resolve the issue over the phone. We’ve spent more than an hour on the phone with the techs trying to make sure everything was okay, but we weren’t able to do so. We had to have somebody come out yesterday with the camera outside When a person knocked on the door, I receive a notification five minutes after. I have a speaker there, and it’s not helping anything. A friend of mine has another system and he gets a notification immediately and he talks to the people soon as they show up at the door. I cannot do that.

From the standpoint of my dealing with ADT, through advertising, television, internet, the whole bit, they're pretty good at marketing themselves. The initial sales experience seemed fine. When I talked to the salesman on the telephone, we talked about the system, a price, everything got set up. They were responsive. I asked for the system the next day and they gave me a very early date for install, which was the next day. So, the initial interaction with ADT on the phone in getting a time set up and everything worked well. The problems really started the next day with the installation.
The next day they set the appointment, and it was at a condominium I’m renovating. They showed up and my wife was there to meet them. The installer was there with the equipment, and he had one of those e-pads for the contract to go through it. And then, he was going through it and the price that was quoted to me was 27.99 per month. And as you go through it, you initial a page and he flips it. And you go to the next page because it’s on an E-Pad. And then when he was getting to the bottom, he said, “The cost is gonna be 57.99,” or some number considerably higher than the 27. She said, “Wait a minute. That’s not the number that my husband told me that y’all agreed to on the call yesterday.” And he said, “Well, this, that, and the other.” And she said, “Let’s get my husband on the line because I know that’s a pretty big difference and we’re gonna need to talk about it.”
So, they got me on the line, and he gave some explanation to why it was going to be higher. And I said, “Yeah. But I can’t afford that here. This is a rental unit.” And 27 was already a stretch, but 53 or whatever number is just out of my price range. And so, that’s not the agreement that I had with the fellow yesterday. And he said, “I can’t do anything about that.” So, we said, “Don’t install it then. That’s a big change.”
My wife walked off and was doing some other stuff with some contractors that were there. And he installed the system, which my wife came back and went, “Why is the equipment here?” We told him we didn't want it." So, he said when he was walking out, “Look. There’ll be our rescission. You’ll get a contract in the mail within three days. And when you do, you have three days to rescind.” And then he walked off. She said, “Well, okay. If that’s what is supposed to happen, that’s the way we’ll do it.” So, we waited.
By the second day, I haven't gotten anything and I was looking for it so I called. It was installed on a Saturday, so I called on a Tuesday. And the person I spoke to said, “Yeah. There is no contract. It’s been terminated.” And I’m like, “Oh. So, there's nothing I have to do?” They said, “Yeah. That’s right. There's nothing you have to do. It’s been terminated.” So, about two weeks later, I went back to the condo and I assumed that they were going call me to come back to get their equipment.
And at this point in time, by the way, I didn't know there was a difference between ADT and Defenders. And apparently, the way this works, I’ve now learned this is ADT and then ADT contacts whoever their regional representative is in a territory, and they install it. And they take it for the first 30 or 60 days, and then they turn it over to ADT. But again, I didn't know that at the time, so I was only dealing with ADT. So, I called ADT and said, “I never got this contract that I was supposed to get. And I called and they said that it was terminated. No one has ever come to get this equipment, and it’s kind of in the way. It’s on the wall and stuff.” And they said, “Let us switch you to this other person.” So, they switched me to this other person. I’ve been assuming that was Defenders.
And Defenders looked at it and said, “The contract’s in place and you owe us money. You gotta pay for this. There's no way to terminate it.” I said, “Wait a minute.” I told them the story, went back and forth with them, and they were, quite honestly, not particularly helpful about the circumstances. And so, I asked to speak to a supervisor, which I did. And when I got the supervisor, she looked at the policy, went, “Huh. Yeah. It doesn’t look like we ever sent you your contract. It looks like we’ve got a bad email address.” I said, “Okay.” I didn't ask whose email it went to, but she just said it was bad. She said, “Give me your email address again. I’m also gonna mail it to you.” And I said, “Look. You mail it to me, make sure you mail it to my house,” because it’s during the COVID stuff. And she said, “Okay. Just be looking for it.” So, seemed like we were back on track.
I waited and waited and nothing showed up. So, I called back and said, “Hey, I never got anything.” And I was talking to the ADT people, and the ADT people said, “You need to take that up with Defenders.” And when I talked to Defenders, again, not very helpful, and basically said, “Sorry, nothing we can do.” And so, I called back to ADT.
And every time I made these phone calls, I don’t know how to reach Defenders, so I’m calling a number and it’s ADT, and ADT switching me to them. I’m literally on the phone sometimes for an hour, maybe an hour and a half, on hold, then transferred between people. It almost feels like by design, it’s very difficult. They make it very difficult on you to solve a problem. So, I get shifted to the ADT person who reads all my records and goes, “Yeah. You called like within three days. I don’t know what the deal is. And so, let us shift you back to Defenders.” And that’s when I figured out this difference. And Defenders got on the phone, said, “You'd have to give us something in writing in three days.” I said, “Yeah. I know, but I was told that it would be coming and it never did.” And they said, “You don’t have to wait. You can just send us something.” I said, “Yeah. But no one told me that. I didn’t get a contract. There's nothing, all right?”
And they said, “You didn't send anything. And so, sorry, there's nothing we can do.” And so, “Let me talk to your supervisor.” I talked with the supervisor, and the supervisor said, “Look. You should’ve just sent us something in writing. And by the way, did you get the person’s name you spoke to on that Tuesday when you first called?” I said, “No. They told me there wasn’t a contract." I didn't know that I needed to take their name, rank, and serial number when they gave me the answers that I thought was consistent with the behavior that we all discussed this Saturday.
And it kinda deteriorated from there until my last phone call with ADT and Defenders last week. I had them both on the phone. They were pointing a finger at each other. Basically, ADT is saying, “We can’t do anything. Defenders has to…” And Defenders are saying, “We didn't get the three-day notice, so we can’t do anything. You’re gonna have to take it up with ADT.” And I said, “Okay. I want you both on the phone.” So, when I was talking to Defenders, I got the ADT person on the phone. And both of them kinda said, “We can’t help you. You’re just gonna have to send in a complaint,” which was like, “Okay.”
I’ve literally spent hours at this point on the telephone. I’ve done everything that was required of me at every step of the way. I’ve taken every instruction. And to this day, the system is still here. They're charging me for it. They haven't given me my money back. I didn't want it. I told them I didn't want it the moment it showed up because the price changed. They installed it anyway, and no one is willing to solve this problem. So, I wrote a letter that outlined all this. Someone called from ADT the day I wrote the letter and said, “Look, I’m gonna get back to you in 24 to 48 hours and we’re gonna get this straightened out.” I was very appreciative of that. Although so far, every time I’ve talked to ADT, they have been willing to solve the problem, but they keep sending it back to Defenders. And I can tell Defenders is not willing to solve the problem.
I don’t know whether this is by design, that it’s a black hat/white hat thing going on, where ADT says, “Hey, we’re gonna hire you guys, Defenders. You’ll take all the slings and arrows so we can keep our image clean,” or if there genuinely is this level of disconnection in the system. But either way, I’m not a satisfied customer. ADT has been very pleasant. They have taken my phone calls. While they put me on hold for a long time every time we’ve gone through it, they sound as though they're trying to fix the problem. It’s just that it’s not fixed.

ADT's installers called me and came to my house to install their system. But then, they didn't say how much they would charge for the installation fee in the beginning. After I got my internet, I told them they could then install the camera. Then, they said the installation fee was 300. I replied saying that was a little too much for me. But then, they didn't tell me that in the beginning. Also, they told my wife they would give us $100 but she didn't receive it.

ADT has been around for a longer time as opposed to some other companies. The sale seemed to go okay. I kind of assumed that the most I would be spending based on the package that I was getting was gonna be like I would get a maximum of $850 worth of equipment, and then they would look and see if I needed anything additional. The person online did a decent job, for the most part, explaining things. But then when the installation occurred and the gentleman came out, it was kind of a different ballgame.
They interrogate you in a way where they make you feel insecure. They go through your house and they say, “Well, this is where the burglar can get you here, and this is where the burglar can get you there.” Beforehand, I was not really too concerned about that, but then all of a sudden, it was like, “Wow, I really don’t feel safe in my home.” It felt like an intimidation factor to purchase more things. At that point, I felt that there was a gentleman in my home that I don’t know pinpointing all these places, that if I don’t buy him, I don’t get the security system that he’s referring to, that I’m vulnerable and he knows how to get in. He was a nice gentleman. He stayed in my house a lot longer than I expected. We ended up spending an additional $1,000 more in equipment from that reason alone because, “Oh, you need this, this, and you need that.” We got the premium package, which was $60 a month, and I had to spend $1,000 additional to get it.
We did have some challenges with the system trying to install the video camera doorbells. My home was not wired correctly for it. So, then we had to revamp it again, and that cost me having to get an electrician to come out, wire it the right away, and for them to come back. We tried reaching ADT’s customer service line, and it was somewhat confirmed by the supervisor after the fact that there is nobody there to help us, that they’re all working from home, and nobody could escalate someone with a decision-making factor to help us with my concerns.
My concerns were on the day they were coming back, the supervisor brought five people with him, did not ask me for permission, walked to my house up to my door with no masks on, entered my home and said, “Can we come in?” I’m said, “Why do we have so many people for this job?” “Well, these are trainees, and there’s a supervisor too. And you have a unique system, an older system in your home, so we wanna show them how to do it.” I had five men in my house, I was by myself, and it made me extremely uncomfortable. They’re all walks of life. I don’t know what their background is. I don’t know what their name is. I see badges, but I don’t know any details on these people, and they’re in my house. The supervisor and the gentleman who installed my initial install had to run to Home Depot to get a part.
The supervisor left them in my home and asked them to do an audit on my home for training purposes. So, there were three men in my house walking through my home going through my house a second time and pinpointing areas and saying that I probably should have more security on this window and a glass break on that window. I was really pissed, and my anxiety was really high. I was kind of in a mindset of just, “Get back here so these guys can leave so that I have this whole experience over with.” They all came in different cars. They didn’t come in marked ADT cars. They came in their own personal vehicles. It just is not a secure way to handle business, as far as I’m concerned. From a national company that’s nationally recognized, it just didn’t feel right.
After they left, the job was still not complete because they noticed I had to hire this electrician. My husband was livid that happened. He went as far as to go up the corporate ladder and try and get someone on the phone and file complaints. There was absolutely nobody that would actually help us. They, at one point, put me on hold for 45 minutes while they called the supervisor to get an explanation as to what the installer did wrong in my home because the customer was upset. I was pretty unhappy. At this point, ADT's in my house and the contract’s been signed. At one point, I was like, “Cancel this. And I’m gonna file a complaint,” because it was handled so inappropriately, especially in the middle of a pandemic. There needs to be some form of a protocol. There needs to be ethics that the company adheres to with everything going on because security is what they do for a living.
In a nutshell, ADT does not have the level of compensation that I want. I would really have appreciated if someone could have said to me, “Ma’am, we’re gonna give you credit for that equipment that we just did because of what we put you through for the past two weeks” or “Here’s a couple of free months of your bill.” l lost two hours on a phone call and my husband lost another hour on a phone call trying to get someone to help us out.

When I moved in, it seemed like people who lived there before had ADT system in there. So, I decided to get it installed. It’s a very good service. Talking with the sales person, I had all the information that I needed at that time to make a decision and whatever I wanted to secure the house. The installation was beautiful. The young man knew everything about the system such as what to do and what to look for. He tested everything and talked me through. He did a great job.

Everybody has a different system so I researched between people that already have a service and ADT came out to be the best one. I remembered my friend had said he liked his system so I called and asked what system he had. He told me it was ADT and that's why I put them on the list. I called ADT late at night and then the next morning, instantly, somebody called me. That's when we talked about everything and the sales representative was good. She was very smart. She gave me insight on everything and told me that it would be explained better when the technician came out. She also told me some things I didn't know about the company. So that made it even better.
Then the technician came out and he was awesome. I've never seen anything like that. He was great at his job. He was able to explain everything. It was like a class first to tell you what everything can do and what you need. I've had a home for a long time and different security systems but I've never had anybody sit down and go over each portion of the house and why you need certain things. That was incredible. I don't know if I was just special but hopefully, that's what they do with everyone. The whole experience was pretty good. We went through with it and saw what best suits me. We focused on everything that I told them I wanted secured. There were a couple of things that I didn't really need – the little cute stuff like the door locks. So instead of getting things like that, I just got other things like the smoke detectors. I've even already told my other kids – to go with ADT when their Vivint contract runs out.

I didn't know that ADT ups the price on customers if they don't call in their discount once a year. Now that I do that, they let the cost of my system stay the same. Currently, I have a problem getting my money in to them. One lady rep told me I could send it through one of my debit cards. Another rep told me I could mail the payment in. Despite this issue, I'm pleased with ADT.

When we first went to ADT, I didn't have a problem because I've seen their advertisement for the whole price. But I wouldn't go to them again. For one thing, every time I turn around, I had to call them. Right now, I don't need to deal with their crap. They kept saying my bill would be 53. I said that I signed the papers and it was 27.99. I wanted to hear their boss. I ended up paying it and I thought somebody would call me back. Then they said 27. They also took 100 and some dollars out of my checking account in which they weren't supposed to. I talked with Debbie, the supervisor, and she got it straightened out. She said she'll credit my account.
The credit should be over every time I get a bill or when it comes out of account, it's not supposed to come out. I wish I could drop the contract because of what they put me through. I don't have the patience to do this but mine’s already got messed up. I ended up breaking a TV cabinet over it and I couldn't do it anymore. So nothing's going right. I would like to have it shut off, I don't have the money for the contract fee. I'm not satisfied with them at all. I would like them to keep my price where it was supposed to be. They told me a different price.

I had Vivint for a while when my dad was alive. When he passed away, I was paying for six months until they called me for an upgrade. Then they shut it off and they wouldn't turn it back on at the house 'cause my and my dad's names are the same. He's senior and I'm junior. I then told them I'll call somewhere else. When I called ADT, I could hardly understand them 'cause their phone and my phone were messing up. But everything else seemed to be all right. I got all the information I needed. I just took a little bit longer 'cause I kept saying, "You gotta repeat that. You gotta repeat that."
The installation was fine too. I gave them $105 down but then the installers came out and charged me. I thought I got everything for free. Then I found out I was only getting the sensor for the back and front door and for the garage motion sensor. I gotta get internet to get cameras but they were gonna charge me another $300 for that. I just didn't understand when they tried to explain it to me but other than that everything had been fine.

My parents had ADT so I’m pretty familiar with them. Getting my first home, first thing is safety and ADT was the first company that popped in my head. The installation guy was really cool and down to earth. It was definitely all about giving me the best protection. He wasn’t necessarily selling me the product or the most expensive package. He was more so letting me know what I needed. He tailored everything for me and it made me feel important. I plan on potentially getting some outdoor cameras.
I’m pretty much satisfactory with everything. I’m always remotely locking my home, turning lights on with a click of a button. I really love that. When I was younger, everything had to be done manually or via a certain few feet from the home. I was in Georgia a few weeks back and I was checking my home, I turned the light on and tried to let people know I was home, but I really wasn’t but I was constantly checking it. I always felt protected with it. Overall, ADT is a very professional service.

I thought what ADT was offering for the equipment and everything was less than everyone else. But when they came to install it, it turned out to be a whole another story. I'm not too happy with that part of it. The service is good, but it's rather expensive. When I talked to them on the phone, I had been told that everything was gonna be covered. I had an $850 credit for equipment and I ended up paying $1200 worth of equipment. It's like I need it. But the customer service was good ‘cause I called them today and I had some questions.
The installation was great although the installers took a bit long. They did it on a Friday. The guy was supposed to come back on Monday to install the fire switch and the smoke detectors and he hasn't come back yet. Then I almost think that they kinda trick you into getting the system with the whole, “Oh, you've got this credit.” And then, when you get there, they would say that your home really needs a lot more. They need to be upfront on the cost and that’s what needs improvement.

But I don't like that the camera doesn't record all time. You only get a certain amount of storage on your cameras and it only records when you have a motion. setting up our account with them went okay. There was a bit of a sales pitch but we knew about that. Still, we could've done without it since we knew what we wanted and I explained to their reps that we had ADT before. Other than that, we got our account through the promo and they left without giving me the remote control which I was told we would get. As soon as they left, I noticed it wasn't here and I called them about it that same day. They said that they were gonna drop it off or come by, but it hasn't occurred yet. So, I'm still waiting for that and it has been a month and a half.
They told us that we don't need the remote control because we can use our phone. But I explained to them why we use it. We don't give everybody our code and we don't wanna be bothered in changing the code because somebody came and visit. So, when our children come to visit, we just give them the remote and they have to leave it when they leave.
