The email from ADT that I got said there was $850 worth of free equipment and the fee is $27 a month. But then the 27.99 pretty much didn’t cover anything so I have to pay 59.99 if I actually want my house secure. I need security anyway, so I got it. I'm fairly new on it but I've already had to call tech support three days ago because it kept saying low battery on my tablet. They told me I had to reset it - unplug it from the wall, let it sit for a little while, and then plug it back in. Also, my doorbell camera was not working and I had to reset that. Now, I'm trying to find out how to fix something but I don't know who to call. I’ve been trying to call customer service and couldn’t get ahold of anybody. I was on hold forever and then I just stopped. Other than that, I like the equipment and I really like how everything works.
Hello Corey- Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience and for choosing ADT to protect your home. We are so sorry to hear about the system issues and that you have not been able to reach customer support. We are happy to help you set up a service call. Please let us know when you are available. If it is easier, we can also be reached at alwaysthere@adt.com.

We thought that there was a promotion being held and that was why we decided to go with ADT because we figured that we were getting more services for our monthly premium or charge that we were paying. But come to find out, that's what they do anyway. Everyone was very knowledgeable and nice. There was a confusion on the date of installment. I did not receive a confirmation or email stating when the guy would be out. So, I didn't know if they were still coming. I had to call and wait on hold for 20 minutes to figure out if someone was even still coming out because I didn't receive a confirmation. I didn't know when the person was coming because I didn't receive an email or a call stating the estimated time of arrival. But as far as the customer service with the gentleman that was here, he was very good, informative, walked us through everything and made sure that we understood how to use the app.

We’ve had ADT for a year and we moved. Everything was smooth when we changed locations. They have been in business for a long time so we stayed with them regardless of what was going on with the competition. Also, ADT connects us with the police, which is a big deal for us. And the other thing, ADT is just about security. They don't mingle with anything else so that's their expertise. I have the basic package, which is a couple of cameras and the sensors for the doors and windows, and I’m good with that. It’s the same thing I had before. I liked the service except we used to pay $28 and then all of a sudden, it’s $60. We’re gonna do it for now and then we’ll see after the contract is up.

ADT's customer service was very helpful. The installation of my system was fast. It took two days from the time we scheduled it. The tech was great and took his time to clean up all the wiring. I'm not crazy about the mandatory minimum for signing up for a contract but aside from that, the cost is reasonable.

The rep of ADT was awesome. The gentleman showed up when he was supposed to. He was there for three hours and he went through everything. He gave us all of our options. He helped us to come to a little better price to protect our home the way we needed it to be. He didn't pressure me to try to sell me a bunch more stuff that I didn't need. So, that was good. I really appreciate the app because I don't wanna have to worry about trying to rush inside the house and get across the entire house to the pad to turn it off. I like that feature a lot.

My sister in Georgia got ADT on her house so she had one installed in my mom's. I was looking at my mom's system and decided that I would go that route too. My older brother in Texas got ADT, too. So it’s a family tradition. The guys that did the installation did an excellent job. I offered them a trash bag and they said that they had one. So they cleaned up behind themselves and I didn't see a mess there. I'm still trying to learn the system and how to go through and check different things. One of the problems is I need to up my internet speed on my upload.

The installer was nice. I liked him. A lot of people in my family got ADT, so I went with them. When the alarm goes off, they call. However, I’m confused because sometimes they call me, and sometimes they don’t. It seems like I’m having problems with getting a connection and on my phone, when I get to the app, it will prompt for me to type in my password. Other than that, things have been excellent.

I have always wanted an alarm system, but at the time, I was renting. I didn't know that I could get one through ADT with renting my home, so I never called. This time, I got the system and the rep was a nice guy. He was very respectful and he explained everything to me. The system is great. I love it. I feel a lot safer now than what I was feeling before. When I turn it on, I press my code and away. I'm at stay now ‘cause I won’t be going out anymore today.
I'm getting used to the system as well. On the day that the guy came out and hooked it up for me, I had a busy day after he left. A lot of things I have to remember. I also walk with a cane and I can't get out of the house fast enough. I have it set up in my washroom, so I have to go from my washroom to my kitchen, to my living room to get to the front door to leave out of my house. Last night, I didn't get out fast enough, so it went off. When the agent called to check on me, I had already left.

We had ADT in a condo we had. This time, the sales part was very confusing. We got caught in the middle between two different people. The first one wasn’t honest with me. He said $52.95 was the lowest price they had. But I called another one and found out there was another price a good bit lower than that. We ended up getting the system and the installation all got worked out. It took a long time but it's a brand new house. Everything was nice and I feel a little more secure. My wife is happy with it. Our insurance company was wanting a certificate that we’ve got this alarm installed and it’s been a hard time getting it but we finally got it.

The neighbors have ADT. It’s a reputable company that's used all over and something that I see everywhere. The rep was helpful and the installation went quickly. But he didn't wear a mask or anything as far as COVID stuff so that was concerning to me. But he was good. I just signed up for the online portal and I noticed there were some charges and then taken off. Then it was charged and taken off again. I didn't see anything on my bank side but it looked strange on my ADT portal. But I like the doorbell camera and the control app from my phone as well, which makes it easy. It is user-friendly. Sometimes, I don't hear the doorbell and it’ll notify me.

We had a security company already and I wasn't happy with it. We came to find out we weren't even being monitored. When I subscribed to cable, they told me that Spectrum had something going on with ADT. Where I worked years ago, they had ADT and I used it, so I was familiar with it. One system is similar to what we had and I was looking for the doorbell camera. We got the other system with the doorbell camera and we're satisfied with it. Its price is comparable to what I had as well. I like the doorbell camera so far, but I wish I could have had some better explanation of how things worked, like how the doorbell camera works. I got it programmed to where it automatically turns on at 11 o'clock at night and unlocks the door at 7 o'clock in the morning. We haven't set the system off yet and that's a good thing.

I was a previous customer so I decided to go with ADT again. They handled everything and the installation took about 20 to 25 minutes. The person they sent was very informative. The customer service was courteous as well. The only thing is that they get in the house and then they upsell. They should be a little bit more upfront about that from whatever promotions they're doing. You have someone thinking one thing, and then it's a whole different ballgame.

I initiated the call with the sales rep, which is when we scheduled the appointment for the service tech to meet us last Monday. The service tech was good. When he came in, he spent two hours before he said, "Hey, this is what I recommend for you," which I thought took a while. We wanted a simple system and he was trying to upsell us on a bunch of other things that we didn't want. He was a young guy who was trying his best and I fully understand what he was trying to do. However, I said no three times. I was almost to the point of kicking him out.
To begin with, we saw the advertisement for the system that said $850 worth of equipment, free installation, with a $27 a month monitoring cost, and the free Visa card. That's the reason why we called. I ended up having to pay $100 first in order to have the service tech come in and then we bought $350 worth of extras by the time we’re also done, which is fine. When he first came up with the numbers though, it was $4,000 worth of extras. I was like, "You gotta be kidding me." I also haven't seen anything about when the $100 free Visa card would be coming, but I see the charges already coming through.
The other thing is that the advertisement was a little misleading. We were told that that $27 was if you had a phone line. Nobody has a phone line anymore. Everyone's got cell phones, so we have to pay $53 a month. They have the cell phone option, which was a bit of a surprise. The service tech did an excellent job of explaining to us that part of it. The only negative experience I had was with trying to do the upsell. Our house is not more than $200,000.

My experience with the rep of ADT was good. On installation day, the ADT representative came out. He explained the package to me and the services that they offer. He explained the things that I could get added to my package. He installed the system and everything went well. He walked me through how to use the system and make sure I was good at it. He watched me arm it and disarm it, familiarize me with the components of the system and the key fobs. I like the system. It works pretty well. The app comes in handy because I could watch my cameras. It alerts me if people are near the sensor. I could talk to the cameras. Nice features to have, extra safety. Ever since I got the system, I feel a little bit more protected.

I'm satisfied with everything. I like this package. I got the window break-in and the door protection. Their doorbell alarm is very loud. I told the guy that I would get the video cam after because that was going to be a 300 installation. He said that I could add that on so that was a plus.

ADT’s monitoring is usually always better than self-monitoring or the monitoring from other countries. I like being able to access everything with my phone, and being able to control it with my Alexa is pretty nice. When I initially signed up, they made the deal sound really good, where I could get up to a few couple thousand dollars in equipment for free, which is what happened. But nobody mentioned that the install price would go up with that. I wasn't aware of that until the tech got here. With the $99 package that I was expecting to get with $2,000 worth of equipment, I didn't realize that I didn't get that $2,000 worth of equipment unless the install price went up to $500. Other than that, everything else is great.

I'm unhappy with the whole ADT system. I set up for this probably close to a month ago. I said I needed to talk to my wife first. We couldn't just make an appointment to install because I wanted her there to decide where things go and what things would look like. We agreed that they’d give me a month to set up an appointment and I got text messages every day reminding me that I needed to make this appointment. I also got phone calls three or four times for the same reason. That was frustrating and she described it to them as bullying. She's all stressed out over that and she'd much rather have waited until after the new year to do all this and I was constrained to that one month time thing.
We got the camera system and she didn't like the cameras or how they looked. I don't like how the cameras work. They weren't what I imagined they were supposed to be. They told me they work at night so you could see things in the yard. The guy was telling me it's kind of like entertainment. He installed them and that night, we were looking at them as he was installing them and you can't see anything. He said that's because it's infrared. So he went outside and I could barely see him four feet from the camera but what other camera he was gonna put up would have never showed anything at night so it didn’t make any sense.
The installation guy and I decided we would install the panel in the living room because there was a power outlet and he told me it was required that we have a power outlet. When I told my wife about it, she didn't understand what I was talking about. When they installed the power outlet there, she hates that it's there and thinks it should be in the foyer where there isn't a power outlet. But that doesn't matter to her. So she's unhappy with that. She doesn't like the look of the sensors on the windows at all and felt like she should have had choices. She is really upset with the whole thing. She called the company today and they're sending me an email which I've gotta sign and fax. They’re gonna give me my money back on the system and they're going to come remove it.

We decided on ADT over SimpliSafe. Why? Because ADT has a long reputation for good work and reliable service. We had a system with a company that was bought by SAFE Security then Safe was bought by A3. We've had a security system in the house and in the upgrading of the wireless in the world from 3G to 5G, some security systems are telling their customers they're going to have to upgrade their panel (their service inside the house). A3 was going to charge us $150, which is not small. We haven't been ecstatically happy with A3 even though we've been their customers and if we're going to have to pay money to upgrade anyway, my husband and I decided to look into something else and see if we can invest that money in something new that might be better.
One of the things we decided on that made ADT preferable to SimpliSafe was the system is very much like the one we have -- the motion sensors and the panel on the wall. It seemed like a good idea to go with a similar thing rather than a whole new thing. We also wanted our program upgraded from 3G to 5G and ADT has that. My advice is if your company is saying they're going to charge you for new equipment to upgrade your system from 3G to 5G, consider investing that money in a new and better system with ADT. Our system was installed and all the rest is the same, except we also got the glass breaking alarm. We hadn't had that before and I'd heard about it from SimpliSafe.
ADT is great. They would notice if the system was off or somehow not hooking up right and they would see to it, whether it was by calling us or doing it at their end. Every month, I had to go through eight steps in order to make sure the system is working with the front door, back door, and motion detectors. It was a pain in the neck, but now, we don't have to check our security system every month to make sure it's still communicating. We had to initiate that and I like the fact that ADT is going to be responsible for making sure the system is working. All in all, ADT has high standards and it's a good buy. There are different companies that use ADT functions and they can advertise as ADT companies because they live up to their standards.

I used to be an ADT customer like 10 years ago. Years ago, we purchased our second home. We had called and got their services. When we bought another home, I sold that home now because everything that's going on right now, I'm a little bit concerned of my family's safety. Everybody's acting crazy right now. We decided to arm the house again. During that process, I remembered that ADT had great customer service and they were reasonable with their prices. At that time, I was paying like $45 a month. I went ahead and I contacted them again to get their services again for my home.
I ended up really liking their rep. I love the system. It's great. When the tech came and installed it, I was on medical leave because I had hurt my back. I'm calling Aflac to see if I could get my money from the days I was off on leave because I want to call ADT to add more stuff to my house. I want to save up for the cameras. I got one above the garage. I love it.
ADT is the best. I came back. I had left, but it was just because we had to move from that neighborhood and we didn't need it at the other house. I did get Vivint when we first bought that house because people were stealing stuff. It was during the market crash and they were stealing stuff in the homes, and I couldn't get anybody. The only reason I didn't go with ADT that day was because they couldn't come that same day, and I needed to protect that house at night and when we closed.
I was not happy with Vivint's service. I was unsatisfied. They weren't able to work with me. We get paid every 15 to 30 days a month. That was a big thing to me and they weren't able to work with me. I canceled it. They refused to cancel my service. I went to the bank and I changed my bank account. Then, I did ADT, and that was one of the things that I had asked them. They said, "Absolutely. When you make that first payment," which I did, but I'm going to call them tomorrow and I'm going to change my due date. I had no problem with ADT. They were always great. Another thing that I like about their company was that when we set up that payment arrangement, that was the exact payment arrangement. I love that about ADT.

Based on what I was told before the installer arrived, I was completely lied to on a recorded line. Nothing was upheld to what I was told that I was going to get. It wasn’t a good experience with the ADT sales rep. I was told that I was going to be able to get a smart home with upgraded front door lock that I can access from my phone and an upgraded thermostat. I was gonna get two cameras at no additional costs. I was also told that after I paid my $100 to schedule the appointment, I wouldn't have to come out of pocket for anything else. I had to pick the highest subscription or monthly cost of $58 and that would cover all of my equipment that I was getting. So, I budgeted according to that and didn't shop around. I was told something completely different when the installer arrived so I ended up getting the bare minimum of things on my doors and my windows. The installer was good but the experience because of that was unacceptable.

So that was what made me change. ADT was my next choice.
The first call didn't go well though, and I cancelled the service because the price and different things weren't explained to me correctly. I explained what I wanted. But as I called back and talked with someone else the second time, the manager was able to assist me, got everything that I needed and got the technician out. He went over everything with me and installed everything. I upgraded and bought more service and products than I originally had ordered because of the way he handled it and explained to me. It was in a professional way and in a way that I could understand. I would suggest that from the first call until the final step, it should be transparent. It should be explained with the utmost of understanding. They should follow protocol. And if they can't answer a question, they should carry it to a higher level that can. Overall, I'm satisfied with them and satisfied with the service.

I like the idea that it only records when there's movement, so I don't have to view a video of nothing. Since having ADT, I feel safe when I get home and I sleep well now.

The installer was great and very helpful. He explained it. I like the access from my cell phone. It was a feature that the rep encouraged me to try out. I was initially kind of reluctant to pay for the extra monthly. It was significantly more, but it is very nice to be able to do that remotely. It was really nice that the rep came back for the CO2 monitor. He installed it the next day when he was able to get one. So it was a nice service.

When my mother was still living, we had reasons to protect our home because of the products she was selling. ADT serviced us and it was pretty good. But once she died and we sold off everything, we discontinued it. Recently, somebody started breaking into the home and stealing stuff. So, I had to get ADT back to reinstall the security system. They're a lot better than what they were the first time we signed up with them. The left hand didn't seem to know what the right hand was doing, but it got eventually all straightened out. We got the service and we were happy with it.
I'm simple-minded and I like the way the ADT product is now. What it was before was a little bit difficult and sometimes we’d forget to do certain things. But on this one, it's just a two-step deal. The only thing that they discontinued was accepting checks for paying bills that they'd charge you with. So I had to get a credit card in order to meet their requirements ‘cause they wouldn't take checks anymore.

The promotion of ADT really got me into it. It was 850 free equipment. However, if I would have known how much a door safer was, I would have gone with somebody else. They should be upfront with the pricing. But, we worked it out to where it all worked out well. They also did a wonderful job.

The customer service part of ADT starting with my initial call was handled well. My questions were answered. It wasn't a real push sale. It was more making sure I understood what I wanted and give me explanations, and allowed me to make my own decision. Jordan was the installer. He handled the installation well. We walked through the house and talked about areas to be covered, and what might cover better and what might help me. I needed something that was more cost-effective. He put together a design that met my financial requirements, as well as giving me the coverage I needed.

ADT had a good price and the manager we were working with said that he could make that happen and he did. So it all worked out well. They did everything that they were supposed to do and they did an excellent job. I didn't expect them to be here that long, but they were very thorough. They explained it very well. When they left here, we were fully aware of how we had to work the system. The feature I like the most is my outside camera.I was going to call ADT because I got another one of my friends that wants the system. I also got a couple more people that I could probably talk into this. So ADT should at least give me a camera on this deal if I get another system sold for them.

ADT called me and we saw an ad. I ended up calling 'cause it looked like a good deal. I talked to somebody and then I talked to a manager also. They pass you on when you're scheduling the install. They explained everything and told us what we could get. They were awesome. They gave us a good deal of what we were getting and how much credit we had towards things. They also said to ask the guy who comes to install a lot of questions because they know everything and they tell you what they can or can't solve, so we did that. When the guy came though, it didn't seem like he worked for ADT that long. He was good and he knew what he was doing, but when I asked him questions, he didn't know much about the stuff we were purchasing.
We were trying to get a lock on the door. ADT sells the things where you punch the key code and this guy told me we couldn't get one of those. I don't know why we couldn't, but I didn't argue with him. I'm sure we could, but I don't think he knew. It was a little odd. He put a lot of good effort, but we need a security system. If we didn't need it, I would have called somebody else and got it. The guy just installed the stuff and we're just going with it. It's been so quick and we've been busy. We got a security system installed in our house and the whole point of it was to secure our home and feel safe. I'm still not sure if this is what we want to use. I got time to get a refund and we're thinking about it.

The person that we purchased the home from already had ADT. They kind of left everything here with us. I was looking it up, reviewing it and seeing which one gives you better service, because even though other companies do it, you gotta do it yourself. We don't have the time and all these extra things that you need to get it done and do it right. So, the person coming, speaking to us about the plan, on what we could adjust, and him going on site and doing all of that is the added benefit. Other people, they would do it and if it doesn't work properly, they still leave, but he made sure that everything was working. He taught us how to use everything before he left.
I like the doorbell. Closing the door with my phone is so cool. So, whenever my mom was at work and she pulls up the door, usually we would just send my little son, who's five, to close the door. Now we don’t have to do that. I have a newborn. So, when I have him in my arms, I can’t pull it all the way off. Then, if my mom has too many bags in her hands and she pulls it off, I would just send my son to close the deadbolt. Now, I just use the phone and press it and it closes the door.
With the new panels, the person who came made sure to go through all that. I like how they set it up. I like that he talked to me about everything. I like him sitting down, breaking everything down to make sure that we knew what we're getting into before we did it. The experience was really good. Starting from the phone call that I did the day before Thanksgiving. They got really great customer service, which is always something that is very hard to find these days with so many issues going on in the world. So, I like that overall experience with that, and they are always there to answer questions. The technician made sure to come out and worked professionally, kept his mask on, made sure he did everything that he needed to do to help us and get us the best information possible.

But so far, I'm happy with the installation and the equipment. Except for one thing, though. The technician put the wire for the camera that leads to the garage halfway up the wall. I would have preferred to go camouflaged with the molding of the garage. Because if not, if someone can break into my garage and they could just cut the wire and say, “This is the one that leads to the camera.” He told me that was how they wanted him to do it. Although, I was very happy with his work.

But when the rep got here to install, I did not know that it did not include the camera, that the cameras were going to be a different price. By the time the rep left here, the bill was going to be over $60. That was not what my budget called for. I ended up going on and getting the service. It's going to be $36 a month for the three years. I still don't have the cameras. The initial ADT purpose was to at least have one camera. But in order to get the camera, it would have been a more different price than what I was told when I initially started out. So I was not satisfied at all. I'm sorry that I have to stay in this for three years and it's not what I actually want. They didn't push but they informed me of the benefits of a wireless one. My house was already fully wired and every door had sensors on it and I wanted that feature to be tied to the newer display. They designed the display, did two wireless sensors, and made my system a hybrid. So far, ADT has been good. They beat the competition and the fact that they are competitive won me over. 1. I was a customer of Bel Air Patrol before ADT bought them and have been a customer of ADT’s for nearly two decades. 2. In November or December of 2017, I called ADT to find out about upgrading the capabilities of the system, such as the ability to turn on and off the system from a cell phone, as I was planning to sell the house. I was provided documents to sign and I told them I would not enter into any long term contract as I was planning to sell the house within a year.
I was ready to cancel the upgrades altogether, but was assured by the sales person that I would not have any contract period so when I sold my home I would be able to end the service. In fact, the sales rep had to draw up new papers for me to sign as she had forgotten to specify one year. On the day the service was installed, the rep sent me electronic files to be signed and I reminded her again that I needed the term to be one year or less. She assured me that there was no long term commitment and I would be fine if I sold the house within the year.
3. I ended up waiting to out my home on the market until 21 months after the upgrade, and called ADT in the second week of September, 2020 to tell ADT I was in the early stages of escrow and to let them know I would be turning the system off and would provide an exact date as we got closer to the close of escrow. On that call, I was on hold and transferred 4 times, including being disconnected by one rep who told me I had been transferred to the wrong person. The customer service rep I ultimately spoke with said that turning off my system could be arranged, but that I should keep it on until the home was sold and to call back then. I asked that my bills be sent to my new address, as I was not living in the home during the selling process, as I am in several high risk categories regarding the current pandemic.
4. In early October 2020, when the sale of the home became more certain, I again called ADT, to give them an exact date. This tine I was on hold and transferred 6 times and was cut off twice, causing me to start the onerous hold period and multiple transfers all over again. It seemed no one knew how to turn off my system or detach my credit card from my account so I wouldn’t be charged. The customer service rep I finally spoke with said he would stop the auto payments from my account and assured me that I would not be charged again.
I pointed out that I had two ADT accounts, apparently one for monitoring and one for patrol. He assured me both accounts were unlinked from my American Express card. He was unable to take the information on ending my ADT service, so he transferred me yet again into the system with more holding and transferring, but eventually, an hour and forty minutes after I’d started the call to ADT, a representative told me they would end my service, but that I should keep it on until I turned over the home to the new buyers and to call again once escrow was ready to close.
The rep said she couldn’t see in my account files that I had called weeks before about turning my system off because of the impending sale of my home, however please, they did have the new address I had given the agent on my previous call. She said if I turned it off before the 4th of November when the new bill charge for the coming 3 months would be charged to my American Express card. I told her it would most definitely be before as escrow was supposed to close around Oct 26. She said, “Then you’ll be fine.”
5. On October 22, 2029, I called ADT again to give the exact date to turn off my system, as escrow was now to close on Nov 2, 2020. This time I was transferred 7 times and after giving my information seven different times to seven different representatives, the last person I spoke with said she couldn’t find where my system was to be shut off, but I had to pay through January of 2022. She later came back in the line and said it was January of 2021 because I had a two year contract. I said I did not have a long term contract as I had specifically told the original sales rep when I had the upgrades done that I would not enter into any agreement beyond a year as I was selling my home.
Then after a brief hold I was told that I needed to give 30 days notice to turn off my system. This was the first time anyone had mentioned anything about a notice period - which I had actually already achieved as I had contacted the company in September and again in early October. I explained that, but she said I had to pay through a January anyway. I asked who I could speak with about this and she said she’d transfer me to her supervisor and — you already can guess — I was cut off and the call was dropped.
6. I reached out to the original sales rep asking for her help as she knew I did not have a contract p. She said she would handle it. Later she timed me she’d been in the phone all afternoon and the best she could do was reduce my final shut off amount to $117. 7. And then, on November 1, I was still charged for the coming three months on the credit card I had been assured was disconnected from my account. I called ADT again, and after three transfers the representative said she did see where I had detached that credit card from my account and she would reverse the transaction. That has yet to happen.
8. I do not know if it is incompetence, poor training or pure dishonesty, but this is not how a long time (19 years) customer should be treated. With the sale of the house I had to turn off 16 different services and each of them were straight forward cheerful and efficient. Some even thanked me for my patronage all those years. Some wished me good luck on my move. But ADT has been a nightmare that continues to grow.
9. No one should enter into any kind of service with this company without knowing about the horrors of trying to speak with someone who knows how to help the customer. All should be warned that the company makes it excruciatingly difficult to terminate service, demanding - no, actually it’s taking payment (in my case illegally), as I had not approved further charges for services I would not receive at a home I no longer lived in and was now owned by someone else.

I spent hours on the phone, over four separate phone calls to cancel my contract and correct billing issues. The alarm service was decent but I DO NOT RECOMMEND ADT due to their poor customer service. My three year contract was scheduled to end on 11/27/2020. I decided to install a different system and monitoring service and called on 8/10/20 to discuss options to cancel the remaining portion of the contract. The contract states that a 30-day minimum notice is required for cancellation and I was calling way ahead of that deadline. They stated that they could not accept my notice that early and that I had to call back on 9/24/20 to cancel. They offered to discount my remaining month's bills (which was appreciated).
I called back on 9/24/20 to cancel. They stated that I was still too early to provide notice. I don't agree with this as the contract states that notice must be received more than 30 days prior to contract end but does not state a limit on how early you can deliver the notice. I was upset that ADT had again wasted my time and wouldn't accept the notice to cancel my contract at the end of the contract period. The customer service person I spoke to asked me to call back AGAIN on 10/21/20 to provide the notice and offered to credit the remaining monthly charges due to the inconvenience. I didn't want to have to call back a third time but appreciated the offer to provide the credits.
I called back a third time to provide notice on 10/21/20. They finally accepted the notice for the contract to be ended at the end of the three year period (11/27/20 was the official end date for the original contract). I specifically asked during this call if there was a balance due or if any additional amounts would be billed. I was told that no additional amounts would be due. I was done... or so I thought.
I received a bill for the month of November. I thought it was just an oversight since I was told twice that I would not owe any additional charges on the contract, so I called (for a fourth time) to get it corrected. I was told that the credit promised to me back in September was only for one month, not both. I disagreed with her and stated that I was told it was through the end of the contract and confirmed again on the October call that no charges would be due through the end of the contract.
We agreed to disagree on what I was told. She offered to cut the bill in half but I feel the bill should have been fully credited as I was promised. I immediately paid the remaining bill just to end this nightmare customer service scenario I had been trapped in for months. It was frustrating and disappointing end to my business dealings with ADT. I will never do business with them again and strongly suggest you think twice as they make it extremely difficult to end the relationship. This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine and a strategy of greedy companies that hope you just give up and keep doing business with them. Shame on them.

I had ADT back in the day and I like all their services. So, when I sold my house and I moved to my new home, I reinstalled ADT again. The technicians who came out were great and I have no complaints. But I just called ADT today because my bill was supposed to be $20 and I was billed for $57 and change. It turned out that for the first month, you pay two months in advance, and I didn’t understand that. But they explained it and everything is fine. Other than that billing issue, I've been happy with ADT.

The guy from ADT that I spoke to told me that they were better than SimpliSafe and that SimpliSafe was a little but more expensive. He also said that they were on promotion and for $27 a month, I was going to get a doorbell camera, sensors, and fire department alert. He said that if I stay with the company for three years, the $27 was going to be lower under contract. So, I scheduled the service because sometimes my daughter is home by herself. She's doing online schooling with me not at home and I thought that that was going to be a perfect fit for my budget.
But when the technician came, he said none of what I was told was true and if I wanted to include the doorbell camera, I was going to pay $299. He also said that the $27 did not include the fire alert, plus the sensor offered was not the perfect one. So, because of time issue, I was forced to sign the contract even though that was not what I needed. And I was told to upgrade to $53 to have the system monitored by ADT and if anything happens, they would come and fix it. All in all, I had a bad experience with ADT and I'm not really happy because what I got from them was not what I was planning to get.
They gave me three days to cancel the service and when I called, the rep I talked to was very nice and told me that he was going to look into the issue. But still, I didn't have a doorbell camera at the time. I called again to see how I was going to get the doorbell camera and for the system to still fit my need, I was speaking to an accounting management and I lost her over the phone two times. In the end, the camera issue has been resolved. I bought my own Ring camera though I haven't received it.

Horrible company and horrible customer service!
Hello Ellen-- We're so sorry for the troubles! You can take the equipment with you, however, ADT would not install it on your behalf at the new address, as ADT does not install used equipment for warranty and liability reasons.
Relocating to another address with ADT requires a new agreement, as it's a new installation. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused!

The customer service was very pleasant and informative. They really helped me make the right decision so I was really pleased with the service. They told me they would call me back and they followed up. That was really good. The technician was wonderful too. He followed the CDC guidelines and had his mask. When he installed the unit, he left all of his trash here for us to pick up. I was not impressed with him at all. Another thing I didn't like was that they followed up a call with the dude standing here for me to rate his performance. They should call me after the fact, not while he's standing there. So, I felt obligated to say nice things about him ‘cause he was standing right there and they were on his phone. But I'm satisfied with the whole unit.

I like ADT, but I think that the salespeople on the phone almost comes off as a fraud. They told me that they have $2,500 in free equipment and a free camera doorbell. It sounded good so I had them come out. When they came, they quoted me for almost $6,000 and I didn't get a free camera. I was with Vivint originally and ADT's equipment is subpar compared to them. They gave me a remote control to my thermostat and automatic door entry locks to my front door. Vivint also put cameras in the living room, a camera over the garage, and they put glass protection in every room on the windows. All I had to do was pay $70 a month, and that was for five years versus the three years with ADT. It was just that their customer service was horrible. But then I only got a quarter of what I really wanted with ADT. I don't know if I'll extend past my three years.
Here's another part too. When the ADT people installed the system, that same day, the battery died on the box. They told me to wait three days for them to come out. On the third day, they came in and put a new box and they told me I was gonna be charged $25 for a fee. After that, I asked the people on the phone and they said it was free-of-charge so I don't know what's going on on that side of the house. I also don't know if people in the higher-ups know what's going on, or they do and they just allow it. But I like the fact that it always notifies me when the door opens or closes, which is nice to have. So, it’s a little better.

The biggest concern we have with it is we have a glass break sensor and when you clap your hands or throw a ball for the dog, the thing is screaming, “Glass break!” Other than that, we're pretty happy with the system. The installer was very professional. He had a very great personality. He appeared to be clean. He knew what he was talking about and he was very knowledgeable of it. I also had to make a lot of adjustments on where the pad had to go. I'm a tall person and it’s down low but it had to be put in an area where it could at a height for me. Even my door bell doesn't lay flat. I wish they would have told me that it was gonna look the way it looked because I wouldn't have probably put the doorbell because of the rocks. Instead of having somebody really viewing and questioning me and say, "You may have this problem here," they just put it on. I don't like it like that.

As we had been with ADT before, we kinda knew our way around as far as what we wanted to have monitored and whatnot. During the telephone conversation with the sales folks, we were assured that everything was good. We asked them no less than four times in that telephone conversation that we shouldn't be expecting any out of pocket because they put us on with a manager and gave us some extra equipment and credit. But when the installer came, it turned out that not only did we have some out of pocket, we had to give up on one of the things, which was the remote access. It's the feature that would enable you to login with your phone when you're on vacation or away from the house and lock the house or set the alarm. But it still cost us $70 out of pocket to get this system up and running.
The installation was quite a pleasant experience. The installer was experienced and he knew his business. He was able to answer our questions. But when he showed up out here, he didn't seem to have any of the information that we discussed and agreed to on the phone. It was almost like we were gonna have to go through this all again with him and tell him what we waned. So he started writing down and adding stuff up. So it really seemed to us that there was a serious disconnect between the sales folks online and the actual installer. Also, when we were talking to the sales folks during the sign-up phase, they promised us a $100 gift card that we still haven't seen. But overall, it was a good experience. ADT is a good service. We like the door announcement where it identifies which door has opened. It was pretty important to know what door is opening because of the size of the house.

We got ADT and their technicians were great even though they had to come back the next day because for some reason, the cameras and alerts were not coming through on our phone. It was some type of a glitch and they fixed that right away.
Also, when we got our system, there was a promotion of a $100 Visa card. I was told that all I had to do was to log on and fill out a paper. But it was a big drawn-out process. You have to print out the application, the certificate of monitoring, and the certificate of installation then you have to send them all in. My experience with ADT was pretty positive though.

The installation took way longer than necessary. From the time the guy walked in to my house till the time he left, it was 13 hours. He left a couple of times, including one time at 5:30 pm when he went to a different call. He said he was gonna be gone for an hour, but he was gone for three hours. By the time he came back, it was dark out. It was crazy. Another thing is that my cameras were recording everything when there was motion outside, and then all of a sudden, they weren't recording as often. Occasionally they would record, like if my son took the car out of the driveway, but when the mail got delivered at the front door, it wasn't recording.
My son came home late one night and he had trouble getting in, but the system didn't record him. Even though he was standing out there for five minutes, it was never triggered. Yesterday, I called and asked for service to make sure that the cameras were still working properly. I had to wait on hold three times for well over 10 minutes. Also the online chat that they say, "Instead of waiting on hold, try the online chat," I waited online longer for the chat person to respond, which they never did. I just used the phone. I was doing both at the same time to see who would respond faster and the phone was faster than the online chat person every single time.
When I talked to the last person who made an appointment, which was a miracle, they had one available right then. They sent someone out and he said, "You're still under warranty so you won't be charged." After he ran the diagnostic and everything came back fine, he left. As soon as he walked out the door, I got an email saying I was charged $25. I had to call again and say, "I thought I was not supposed to be charged because it was still under warranty." They said I absolutely shouldn't have been charged, but guess what? My credit card was charged $25.
I had to get on a call again to try to adjust that and the guy on the other end made my bill for next month $25 cheaper, so that it would wash. I'm still getting $25 back, but that's not the way it should happen. It should be that I don't have to pay the service fee. Because when you look back on my past, now it's gonna show I paid a $25 service fee during the warranty period. That is reflective of what happened, but it doesn't reflect that they refunded me the amount that they should have never charged me. I also had to do the work to get it right for me, rather than them just doing it correctly.

The ADT rep was a very hard sell. He backed me into a corner of things and I really had to tell him that I did not need all these things that he was recommending. I just wanted a basic alarm system. Then the installers were two hours early when they came out. My daughter was there and she didn't know what was going on. They started running wires and things without even me being there. I wasn't even 100% that I wanted to do it. I signed up for it and I was told that if I changed my mind, I wouldn't have to do the installation. So they ended up coming out and I was supposed to get some credits, which I did. But it still cost me $1,200 more than what I expected. Then, they showed me the panel that they installed and it was a touchscreen.
They explained it to me very quickly but I didn't understand it. Once I wrote that check, they were out the door. So within a day or so, it started beeping with my grandson there and he was petrified. My daughter called me and I gave her the code, and apparently, one of the brand-new equipment that they put in the bedroom had a low battery. So, I called technical support and I got that cleared up. She brought me back to the panel, who she showed me a completely different way of running my panel on the wall, which was a lot easier and less confusing.
The installers had a hard time putting the doorbell with the camera in. They damaged my door jamb, but they got it in. It has not worked. I told them that I didn't want the text message alerts through ADT. I just wanted to do it through my app. So the guy said he took that off, but anytime anybody would walk near my front door, I was getting text messages. Then, again, my alarm was beeping. There was something is wrong with my front doorbell. I had a tech out yesterday. It turned out that the doorbell camera was not charged and it was completely dead. The guy said that they were supposed to be charged for a minimum of two hours before putting it on.
The guy didn't have a charging cord that would go to it. I found a charging cord at my house. He told me to put it on the charger for a couple of hours and then put it back onto the doorbell which I had a hard time getting it off. When I put it back on the doorbell, it was still not charged. It was still flashing red. I have paid for one month of service that I've not even used because I've had nothing but problems. If I could, I would've returned everything but they already put holes in my walls. I told the tech that I was not happy at all. He said he was gonna leave the ticket open because of the doorbell issue, and then he'd come and maybe replace it with another one, which I needed. I looked at Home Depot and the little wall panel that ADT put in was $12. So I was completely ripped off for the whole system. I'm really dissatisfied. I like to have the whole thing removed 'cause I'm afraid to even use it.

When I signed up for a promotion that I had, the advertisement that ADT did with that was kind of misleading, without reading the fine print. From the pictures of the advertisement, it showed the door Ring, and it showed you got the camera. But then if you read the fine print, it's actually an extra. We ordered it because we figured that we were getting all the camera and the door Ring. But we only got the basic part of it. I just have the motion sensors and the window alarm and the front door. But the installation guy did a good job. The system is doing what I needed it to do right now.

You should be ashamed of your business practices. I would never recommend you guys. And I will continue to report you until my contract is terminated.

We liked the person from ADT that we spoke to in the beginning, and it seemed like ADT was the way to go. The installer was very good, too. ADT did everything they were supposed to. We like that the doorbell ringer rings every time we open the door because that way, we know if somebody’s coming in.

ADT seemed pretty good and fairly priced from what I heard from friends. The sales agent was super friendly, professional and whenever I asked a question, he always had a good response. The installer was very knowledgeable whenever I had a question about anything and he just told me what I needed to know, which was helpful. The ADT system a good back-up in case I don't catch on to anything. The only issue I had was that one day, my dog set it off 'cause he would bark while I was not there. I called and changed the sensitivity on the alarm that he set off. So ever since then, it has been great.

ADT had the specials on. I was on the computer and it said that I got this deal so I thought I'd go for it. The guy said that they would be out the next day at 8 o'clock in the morning. I said I had some friends and I was gonna have them for lunch. He said, “Don't worry. I'll only be there two hours.” He got there at 8:00 but didn't leave till 2:00 or later. I couldn't wait to get him out of the house.
I am so confused about the system. It drives me nuts. I'm not even using it because it just goes off on craziness. If I go out the door, I gotta make sure that this is off or this is on. I can't even believe that they do this to older people that it's not worth even doing. I don't know how to work this thing at all. They gave me this paper but that was it. The guy that came the first time gave me this thing that looks like a wristwatch and if you’ve fallen, it will help you. This other guy that came four or five days later said it won't work at all. It's like 854 I saved yet I'm paying all this money for this which is at least $1 a day. It's absolutely horrible. However, I don't wanna get it out of my house ‘cause they got all this stuff all over the place and I'm gonna have to repaint everything. I would never recommend it.

A lot of my frustration came when I talked to the salesman who promised me that I was gonna be able to have a free camera if I purchased my order. Then when the actual installation guy came out, he said that a free camera didn't come with it. That was not I was told and I felt a little bit misled. I ended up spending 59 bucks a month, versus 27 bucks a month for what the salesman told me. That was a crunch for me, but I wanted to have my house completely secured in the right way. The installation guy did manage to get a fire detector added in that plan. So, as long as I have the service, and it is a three-year contract, I don't have to worry about my bill ever going up. But I really wanted that camera in there too and it would cost me $300 more. I can't afford that.
It’s very important that ADT makes it clear what the customer is getting. I was ready to bail out because I wasn't getting what I was told I was getting. But the installation guy was really patient and understanding that he called and he worked out some things with his manager, and I was able to be satisfied at the end of the day. So, I kept it. The system was done like they said it would be. I ordered it on a Friday and the system was there on a Wednesday. I like the way that I can be away from home and I can turn on and off my alarm as I choose it and things within it. That's very convenient. So, I would still recommend them.

We bought our first house and got a security system. ADT is the only commercial that I've been seeing and it's the only one that I looked up and did some research on. I felt good going with that. The first installer was a nice guy, but it didn't seem like he wanted to be here because he kept talking about putting in his two weeks' notice. He also left a lot of stuff undone and said he was gonna come back one day. He never showed up that day then he came back and half-** installed the cameras. We had to get another ADT guy to come fix one camera because it wasn't hooked up properly and that second guy was good. Everything is good to go, except we have to get an electrician to come out here because our doorbell doesn't get enough power from the wires they ran.
Everything's good about what we got though. When we open a door, it tells us which door in the house is open and the shock sensors are cool. Our oldest son has autism, so we needed to get something to know if any door opened in the house and be able to watch him while he sleeps 'cause sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night. Now that the cameras are all working, we like having them in the kids' rooms, so we can check on the kids while they're asleep if we're out back. One day, my oldest son touched the tablet and ended up setting off an alarm. ADT called within three seconds once I heard the first beeps, and then my phone started ringing. It was good to know that it worked that fast.

My experience has been very bad and very lousy. If I could get out of the contract without paying anything being penalised, I would get out of it. When they came, they spent too many hours at the house. They said that in some other states that there was a problem with machine and that he wasn't being able to enter the contract. When he got it done, he put in the pieces in the house. One of them was in the bedrooms and he was saying that it's got low battery and that it was going to charge itself in 24 hours. Then 24 hours went by and nothing happened. I called them up the next day. They told me, "Oh, give it 48 hours." 48 hours passed, and again, problems. So then, they told me, "Oh, it'll take 72 hours." After 72 hours, I asked for a service guy to come over and fix it. They sent somebody over. They had me waiting over five hours for him to come, and then he came in late and he didn't have the stuff that he needed to fix it.
He had to come back the next morning and he asked if he could come in at 7:00 on a Saturday morning. I said it was okay. But he came in around quarter to 8:00, and he replaced the part over there. A couple of days later, the same thing was going on. So I called them up and I had to wait another few days for them to come. Yesterday, they told me they were going to be there between 12:00 and 5:00. At 5:00, I call up to see what was going on because they called me about 4:00 that he would be there in about quarter after 5:00. They told me that they rescheduled me to 5:00 to 9:00. But if they rescheduled that, why didn't somebody tell me? I started getting mad and then the rep said, "Let me find the technician and I'll call you back." Again, a hold on the line. So I stayed on the line and then she said the tech was only 15 minutes away from me and that he was gonna come over.
I'm 73 years old and my wife is 71. The alarm going off in the middle in the morning before we wake up and we jump up like somebody broke into the house. All this going on, when you call them, they're supposed to service for the things that they didn't do. When the tech was here yesterday, he was having problems putting the thing. Finally, I solved his problem. The other hole was too big and they couldn't cover it. I am very disappointed in them. They also said they were gonna send me $100 gift certificate but I have not heard or seen anything.
The rep told me that the first year with ADT was gonna be 19.99, and then after the second and third year, it was gonna be around 27. But when the papers came over to the house, it showed that it's 27.99. I asked about this and the rep asked me if I wanna get a rebate. But when am I gonna get a rebate? I haven't heard anything from them. They told me that I can cancel if I didn't like the system. I told them that I wanted to cancel but the rep told me that I could only cancel without paying the penalty within three days but it was already passed three days. ADT is not doing business the right way. Before I moved here, I had ADT in New York for many years in my business and I had no problems. But what they're putting me through here is ridiculous. They're a lot of fast talkers and no action. They're easy to get the money, but they're not easy to give you the service for it.

Zach came out to install and he was very professional, on point, and very informative. He had everything together and made suggestions that best fit us. He made suggestions as to how to do certain things and things would help us make sure that we are safe and that we do not accidentally trigger anything. One of the features we're enjoying is the fact that we have the touchscreen, which makes it a lot easier rather than the old keypad. We can make a lot of adjustments there. Also, we have the key fobs so we can activate and disarm the system when we walk out of the house. I just wish that they would reduce the amount for the time being because a lot of people are home.

My wife has been hounding me for years to get a system. And then, one of the neighbors got a lawnmower stolen right from his trailer. So, we looked at videos from a neighbor’s. It was just time. When I called, ADT's reps were helpful. They couldn't tell me exactly, but they gave me a ballpark price. And then, when the gentleman came out, he was pretty thorough. He was really good. He explained everything to me. Camera, versus just the system, versus whatever. He broke it down to what I was looking for. Once we agreed, he had everything in his truck, and he was in and out of there in a couple of hours. He was able to help me out right then. Everything now is wireless, so he had everything on his truck that I needed.
I got the decals up. The installer gave me pointers, “Don't put a decal in the front window. That's what the yard sign is for.” And then, he mentioned the window contacts vibrate. So, if they open up the door, glass break, or pry open it, it automatically goes off. He told me, “Why don't you put a decal right there so they can see that you actually have the system. The robbers will case the joint out first.” Also, if you put the decal right there on the window, they're reversible decals, so you can put it on the inside or outside. But he said, “Put one right there so they can see the actual sensor.” He was pretty helpful. I got it all set up on my phone and my wife's phone. So, if we forget, then we can check it out to see if it's armed. It’s a pretty easy system. Armed in and armed away.

I wasn't under a contract here, but down there, they wanted a contract for three years, and I wasn't used to that. Also, when the installer got there, he didn't tell me all the stuff that I have to buy. I wound up spending around $300 just for a couple of sensors and a motion detector. He also told me he couldn't use their system to override the one that was in there, and I don't know how true that was. The one I got here got a smoke detector and I got WiFi with it, and I pay less money. I had gotten a bad taste with ADT because the first guy I talked to was very salesy and was extremely rude. Then they sent somebody else to call me and he re-buttered me up. When the guy was here, he did the setup. There was one issue with it that he couldn't figure out and he promised to get back to me but he never did. Then someone had called and I tried to talk with them about it, but they couldn't figure it out. Then they were trying to get me over to the tech department and it was just a nightmare. The second time that I talked to them, they were very kind. Their rep assured me that whether I signed on or I didn't sign on, I would receive the $100 Visa card back. But when I called and I spoke with them, and they did verify that I would be getting it back, but I haven't received it.
I'm not very happy that I couldn't shut my chimes off so at night. When you're inside in your home, that chime sound for a whole minute is horrible. So at nine o'clock at night when my kids are sleeping, we have to listen to this god-awful chiming beeping noise for a minute until it alarm. So because of that, I’m a little annoyed.
I realized that we couldn't afford a monthly fee at 53 so I was calling them, trying to talk to them. But they never told me that it was ADT but it was through an affiliate department. So it was a little bit different. When they said that they couldn't accommodate going down in price because when I went down the price, it was really taking away so many features that I knew I could do differently with another company. When I called to cancel, the first lady was mean. She didn't even explain how to cancel. She just said that I would have to fax and then literally hung up on me as I was trying to ask another question.
So I called and spoke to somebody else. She was a sweetheart. She said that she could cancel it on the. phone and I didn't have to fax it. But then she said that I was a part of the other ADT company that was like an affiliate, so I did have to fax it over. But she gave all the information on what to do. I did that within 72 hours. I have the receipt showing that it has been faxed over and I haven't heard anything since. A couple of people from ADT were very nice and they gave a breath of fresh air. They were wonderful. But the affiliate company that they put me through was awful.

Everybody knows ADT. I called them when I bought a new home. I need protection. The reps on the phone were great. The guy who came to install was great, too. He had to wait though. What should have been a two-hour installation was almost six because I didn't have internet yet. Nobody told me it would be faster if I had internet. I'm in a little village in a valley, and the poor guy who came to install was as patient as the day was long. That meant that I had to pay for the things that had been promised on the phone call like two free things you attach to your keys to disable the system from the outside. There was something else that he could not get approved because I had no internet and it was taking too long, and I said I'd just buy them. I also want the $100 they promised me since they've got so much more out of me with the slow setup.
The quality of the system is fine. The only thing I don't like is that the woman says, "Stay at home. Exit now." She could say, "Go to bed" but it just says, "Exit your home." It's psychologically confusing that whether you hit stay at home, lock it up, or I'm leaving the house, the verbal prompt says, "Exit now." But that would be an easy fix for ADT. Everything else is good and as expected.

The package came out to be more than we thought it would, but the rep worked out the price. He was good in the house. But with what's going on with the house now, we're not quite sure if we have the right equipment or it's not adjusted properly. The sensors on the windows are supposed to be a perimeter sensor. There's a crash sensor on the windows. But the blinds is making the alert. It hasn't happened while the unit is set, but it says, “window open” and “window close.” So it seems to be like it's too sensitive. We have a cat in the house and if he touches the blinds, then it says, “window open” or “window close.”
We asked ADT to put the control panel up higher because we have little kids that come in the house, and they could hit the alert buttons. The rep said that because he was tall, he put it shorter. But it’s like a little kid could raise his hand and just hit "fire" "police" or "emergency". He explained to us that they have little keypads, but he didn't offer them to us, so we discussed if they would actually aid us in what we wanted the systems to do or not. He just mentioned it wasn’t very small. We wanted the main control in other areas of the house, and he said they couldn’t do that. We had higher areas where another alarm system was installed that we would go ahead and prefer in the hallway or by the garage instead of put in the kitchen.

We're going to charge you immediately 100 bucks on your Visa card. But within three to five days, you will get a Visa gift card back. And it's only gonna be 27 bucks a month.” I'm taking responsibility too. I'm new to this. I said, “Okay, let's move forward on the installation and have the gentleman come out.” He was a very nice person too. But right off, he said, “Okay, you need $1,600 worth more of an equipment.” I have lived in this house for 37 years and I don't even close the windows. I don’t even lock the door. He said, “Well, ADT is gonna tell you anything to get me out here.” That wasn't right.
I said, “Listen, I'm wasting your time because I'm just gonna get the basic here, 28 bucks a month. And I'll sign it up for two years and give me the,” blah, blah, blah. And said, “No. We can do payments of $300 a month for four months.” I said no. And then all of a sudden, he charged my credit card another 100 bucks, and then he charged another 50 bucks. I was supposed to get a credit back for 156, which I haven't got back. I'll be patient on that. But it was so confusing. Their systems were down that day. But two weeks later, I still didn't have an active account. I do have an active account. I finally got my act together and learned all about this so I could speak intelligently. I'm signed up for years to come, but I am waiting for that credit. I would call them and they say, “We don't have an account for you.”
I am paying my hard-earned money for this. But they trick you into stuff. It gets you going, and then they try to upgrade you, and they try to upsell. They just tell you very minimal upfront, and then you get surprises as you go along. And then they do all this stuff. Hopefully, I get my credit back. But we'll see. And the other thing too is they make it sound like within three to five days, you’ll get your Visa card back. But it took me three weeks to get the email. Then you gotta fill it out. Then you gotta put a cashier's check for $4.25. Then you send it back to them. Then 60 days later, they send you a Visa card as a gift. But it's presented right upfront, “Oh, it’s $99, but we immediately refund you back with a Visa card, three to five days.”
I called my technician back and he was like, “Excuse me? Who are you?” I said, “Hey, remember me?” “No. Quite honestly, I don't. What house are you in?” He does so many houses a day. They don't even know you. And I’m like, “Come on, you me.” He said, “Honestly, I don't.” “Oh, my God. We went down through all this stuff.” But then customer service didn't have me for three weeks because things weren't active. Things were screwed up. My email was wrong. But the tech was very friendly. He tried to upgrade me, but I wasn't the customer to do that. I showed him the newspaper, crime log, and there’s nobody. Fortunately, it's not a crime area as far as breaking in. But I feel more comfortable, especially when I leave. And that's when I’ll utilize the system. It's good to have a little system. We're in good shape.
However, I don’t need the system. I lived in this house for 34 years. I live in San Diego. I open my windows in April and close them in November. Every one of my windows are open. I don't turn my air conditioner on. My back door is always open. We don't have bugs, flies or humidity. I did it to save 170 bucks on my Geico thing. But right now, unless I leave, then I would turn it on. I haven't done the hassle of turning it on every day and off and everything, but it looks simple and I can remember it. I will use it when I'm not at home, traveling mostly. I always like being affiliated with a great company and I'm sure ADT is. I’m thankful for that.

It ended up being very stressful. I wanted to back out but they made it to where I couldn't. I checked my mail last week and ADT had sent me something for a new homeowner to get all these perks and stuff that they didn't give us. We didn't get the upgraded touchscreen monitor and little remote things that you can walk around with either. There were a lot of things that they didn't give us. We got the basic level package and we're paying $55 a month.

We arranged for ADT to install a security system in our home. The contract included the purchase of equipment along with a monthly service for Monitoring. On the date we were supposed to have the installation, we realized that the contract said that even though we were “buying” our equipment, it was still owned by ADT. This meant, that if we moved, if we didn’t return the equipment to ADT, or we changed our service, ADT would come after us for the cost of the equipment.
We would never “own” the equipment, even after the expiration of the contract. This could amount to thousands of dollars. We were then promised that we would receive an addendum to the contract, but no addendum was forthcoming. All we got, was an hour waiting on the phone while we were passed from person to person. We finally notified ADT that we would not be using their service. The people on the phone were horrible, as they were operating under the belief that we had already signed a contract with them. We had not. Thank goodness.
Hello Debra-- We're so sorry for the troubles. We try to present our contract terms so that they're as clear as possible. ADT does not pursue to get any equipment taken unless you decided to have everything uninstalled shortly after installation. Best of luck in the future!
Stay safe!
Thank you,

The price that was quoted to me was attractive. Also, ADT has name recognition, and how quickly they were able to get me scheduled for an installation, were the determining factors for me. Coming out to my house and saying that I had a $6,000 quote, and then bringing it down to 1,300 was poor business and I felt obligated at that point. I regret my decision having gone with ADT.

We had some vandalism and we had screws put behind my tires. We decided we're putting our house in a safety mode inside and out. Nathan from ADT was awesome. He clearly described all of the products and some of the things that we may need to consider. In these times of difficulty, he understood why we were, after all these years, installing ADT and what we were looking for. He didn't pressure sell me on anything I didn't want or need and took care of it. We talked at length about the aesthetics of the system speaking to me when my doors or windows open. Also, we talked and agreed not to hang my ADT panel on the wall. They have a stand for it. I put it on a table so I can walk it around and I really like that. I have the little fobs as well and Nathan explained that. And the biggest thing is that I can turn the system on and off on my phone. I love that I can do that.
But they all do the exterior cameras wireless. It becomes a little difficult when they have bigger areas that they may need to cover. We needed Cat 5 ran because we have a whole acre and a half and they couldn't provide for all the way down to the half acre on wireless. We had to go outside of ADT and purchase exterior cameras. Also, I had my system one week and the glass break on the window wasn't resetting. That happened on a Saturday and nobody could come out until Tuesday. I could not arm my system until the tech arrived and customer service could not help me. Waiting three days for a system to be armed can be challenging. Other than those, I feel much safer out there since having the ADT system. It's pitch dark at night and I couldn't tell if someone were standing right outside my door if my life depended on it but now, I'm a little bit more comfortable.

The sales rep was a good dude. However, I was a little taken off guard. Their advertising shows the security systems and gives you rough prices. But when they show up, it's gonna be $3,000, $4,000. The initial quote was $6,000. After we took off a lot of the windows sensors, it came down to $1,500 which I can handle. ADT could do a better job on their end as far as putting out there how much it costs versus just sending somebody to your house and being like, "Hey, surprise, pick this on the spot."
I got everything that I asked for except I really wanted a doorbell camera versus just a camera in my front which I told them initially when I talked to them on the phone and when they came out. The sales rep gave me the ADT cameras and the one in the back's great. I wanted a camera in my backyard and the one in the front is kinda like right in front of my cars which is cool. I can see my cars. However, I have no clue who's at my front door. I've had several people that have come to my house and I've no clue who's at my house or how long they're at my front door. I can just see when they walk up or walk away.
I like the cameras and the door sensors. I got the glass break sensors because I would've needed 33 window sensors and that's what made it like $6,000. But I don't like the glass break sensors. Every time a drawer closes, like I close my kitchen cabinets or my closet door or any of that, the broken glass sensor goes off. I can't alarm that when I leave the house because my dog's running around and when they're playing or when they drop stuff, it's going off. So I have to alarm it to stay so that the broken glass sensors won't go off. I can't fully alarm my house when I leave and that sucks because when I don't have it fully alarmed, the motion sensor that's on my back patio where my bar and hot tub is isn't alarmed. It's a little dissatisfying there especially since I asked him, "Are the dogs gonna be an issue," and he said, "Oh, no, they only pick up the sound of glass breaking or the frequency of glass breaking." But they definitely do.

It's a simple system to use. We didn't get the whole shebang because I didn't have the internet at the time I got the system, but what we have is more than enough. I really like the key fobs. The tech that came out to do the install was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He did everything he could to give us exactly what we were asking for and what we expected.
So far, being able to use the mobile app is kind of a nice feature. If we forget to set the alarm, I can do it when we're away from the house as long as I get good cell service. We've also got the feature on the garage door to open the garage door for us when we pull up. So, those are things that we hadn't had before. The installer who came to do all of the installation was fantastic. If I can give him any props for a promotion or bonus, that'd be great. I had a really great experience with him. He had a lot of knowledge about how all the stuff fits together. He had a lot of different options to protect my home as far as what components got installed and what didn't, or the different options for being able to cover different sections of the house. Whenever we had an issue with one of the sensors falling off with one of the pillars, he came out afterwards and corrected the problem really quickly.
I didn't know the pricing of security systems in general. I originally expected the price to be much lower than it was. Mostly because I was expecting the price to be not necessarily comparable to the equipment credit. I was expecting my credit to be at least a quarter of the cost. But I understand that what ADT put into the system is gonna drive the cost up. The system seems to be working out pretty well for me. The installation and ease of use was pretty good. The app for arming and disarming the system is really nice. It's a little bit hard to interface with, but it makes entering and leaving a lot easier. Because if I forget to arm it, I can arm it whenever I'm not near the house.
