I was a previous ADT customer and so when I needed a security system in our second home located on the Big Island of Hawaii, I chose them over local alarm/security companies. Big mistake. ADT doesn't have installers on the Big Island so the salesman talked me into buying a "self-install" system that he said was easy and would take less than 30 minutes. Ten days later we are still trying to activate the system. We had the system shipped to Hawaii where my wife is now trying to install it. After two hours on the phone with tech support today, still no luck. We have an appointment with a "master technician" tomorrow. Every time I call technical support (now about 8-10 times) people are nice but we just go around in circles.
It usually takes them at least 5 minutes to find and confirm my account. And they are greatly confused that a system was purchased by someone in Colorado who wants to install it in Hawaii. I have literally spent 10+ hours on the phone and they have hung up on me several times (I don't think it's an accident) and have been unable to walk us through the installation and activation. Believe me, if I had a way to get back in touch with the salesman who told me all those lies about how simple this would be... I would give him a piece of my mind. I'll never go with ADT again for anything and if we don't get this fixed in the next 2 days will cancel my order and contract.

They lock you in a three year contract then consistently raise the monitoring fee by about $5 a month every year. They call it a yearly increase when I asked why it’s gone up. I have been a customer for a year and a half. The year was up in January so if it’s a yearly increase why wasn’t it increases in January instead of mid year?

As a new customer, I requested a security system with floodlight cameras, but they told me I needed to bring my own electrician for the installation. They didn’t inform me of this until the technician was at our house to install other sensors and regular cameras. We decided to return the floodlight cameras within a week after the technician completed the installation because we didn’t want to pay extra fees for the installation. ADT Pulse’s rude management not only refused my request for the return or even replacements, but they also tried to sell me another regular camera. Be sure to carefully read your contract and check the monthly fees—they try to lock you into the highest monthly rate, contrary to what’s advertised. Terrible customer service at ADT Pulse.

Canceled my ADT account yesterday for various reasons. After seeing a $278 charge this morning, I contacted them. They said it was my equipment balance. My initial contract started May of 2020. I paid for the equipment in 4 monthly installments (I think around $250 per month). I bought a house September of 2021 - and when I called to let them know my services needed moved to my new home, they told me to leave all equipment at the house as they had 'updated' equipment they would give me. The tech came a few days after I moved in and installed the touch screen, door sensors, and told me the doorbell camera would have to be installed at a later date. He handed me his tablet to 'sign' and 'initial' the documents (here's where I messed up) - and assuming that there wouldn't be extra charges for anything I signed. The doorbell cam was never installed. I called once or twice to schedule another technician, but kept getting the run around.
Fast forward to today - I looked over the contracts and documents for my account. I noticed the 'install' charges were actually for equipment - and something called a lamp on/off module (which I was definitely never given). I called and asked why I was charged for equipment a second time - and for equipment that I never received. The lady on the phone just kept repeating that I signed the contract and should have read it before signing. I just wanted the money back for the equipment that I should not have had to pay for - and the equipment that was never installed or received. Very disappointed - and not sure what to do.
I already called my bank to file a dispute on the charge from this morning. But I will be disputing the 'contract payout' bill when that comes as well. The total for the equipment was $656.14 - and they were taking $10 or so dollars a month for that. And decided to take the rest this morning. I should not have been charged for the equipment when I moved at all. I'm pulling all payment history and documents but will be disputing most/all of the charges at this point. Long story short - when the tech hands you the tablet to sign - read through the whole thing before you sign anything.

ADT is the worst. I had security service with Alder and the equipment broke and had to be sent in for different equipment and left my home without security monitoring during the time I mailed it in and waited weeks until I got my new equipment. Now ADT is calling me saying they bought Alder and are taking over my account and my payment date is changing. I was not happy with the service Alder provided originally and was not notified of this change in service until a call from ADT today 8/8/24. I told them I did not was a new service provider and was not happy with my previous service or equipment and asked them to cancel my account. They put me on hold for a while, then the next person I spoke with I told the same thing and they too put me on hold again! The 3rd person said I have a 5 year contract and cannot cancel without paying 90% of the total amount which I did not agree with.
I remember a 2 year contract with a different security company which provided faulty equipment. I again asked them to cancel my service and she said I could not cancel it without paying 90% of a 5 year contract! I told her to email me a copy of this 5 year contract. She finally came back on the line and said she could not provide the 5 year contract but that she requested....and at that point I don't know if the line disconnected or if she hung up on me! I waited several minutes for her to call me back, she never did. I then called the original number back that called me, a different person answered. I explained to them and they asked me to hold for 9 min. I said no, I'm not waiting again to speak with their cancellation department and requested to speak with their manager, it was at 5:44pm CST and they said their manager had already left.
Finally spoke with someone else, then hold again. This will be the 6th person I've spoken with and I've verified my information 5 times already and spent almost 1hr20min on the phone. The same guy I just spoke with came back on the line and said they will get me over to them but there will be a little bit of a wait. I will never do service with this ADT and will never recommend their service. Thomas from account management is on the line. I told him he's the 6th person I've spoken with today and I want to cancel. I asked for a copy of the contract again and he said it has been requested but he doesn't have access to it. He said if I cancel right now it's $1,500.00 early termination fee. I raised my voice because I'm rightfully upset, and he put me on hold. Worthless customer service, terrible wait times, no help unless it is in their favor. All I want is my service canceled.

ADT attempted to install an update to my security system on June 8th, 2024, and the system has not worked since then. It took from 1 to 2 weeks each time for 3 repairmen to come out, failing to repair the system each time. I had to install a new working system to get the security I need. ADT is refusing to come remove the faulty equipment, and have been lying to me, bullying me, and threatening me instead. I have gotten the Better Business Bureau involved.

I'm not happy with ADT. In 2000, we put the system in and we've had problems off and on with it. We have it on almost every window and the door in our house and we can't put camera systems up from ADT. The techs have run wires all through my house and when you call them to come and fix a camera, they say they don't have that anymore and I need to purchase a brand-new system. In my bedroom where the alarm box is, there are wires going all over through the room and the walls. The techs said they would come back and fix it but it’s been 24 years and they still haven't come back.
If I make an appointment for somebody to come out and help me with something that is wrong, they come from Evansville, Indiana. And the next day, I'd get a phone call and they would say the driver wouldn't be able to come to my house and they would have to set up another day. It goes for a month like that. So, I’m sitting here waiting for them to show up. Sometimes they don't call, sometimes they do. Then, the technicians are in Murray, Kentucky. I'm sure they’re working on a business but I'm paying my money too just like anybody else.
ADT said they would have me install the system. But if I'm going to have a new system put in, I'm not going to install it. I don't know how to install and nobody seems to answer the question of what I’m going to do with all the wires going through my windows. Even the technicians would give me their cards and the guy would come in and change a couple of sensors. Then, he would say the other sensors are gonna go but he doesn't have them in his van to cover all of it. So when the sensors go out on those windows, all I have to do is call for them to schedule and tell them what I need and he’ll come out. When I've done that a couple of times, the girls who do the scheduling get very upset with me and ask how I know what's wrong with the system. I would say I was told by the technician what’s going to happen and down the line, it is what happens.
We lived in Illinois and we had Protection 1. When we came down here, ADT was the only service that was available so the gentleman came from Hopkinsville to sell us the system. The gentleman who came to put it in was here for two days and he came from Evansville, Indiana. So he had to leave a certain time to get back home and there were times when they said they would call the manager. But now, the manager has retired.
The other thing is, we have a house in Florida and sometimes in the middle of the night, the alarm goes off. When ADT calls, they would say it is going off and ask if I could go over to the panel and disconnect. I keep telling them I'm not there. I'm out of town. And then I'll pull up the camera system and look. There's nobody there. It had to be a bug or something that went by one of the sensors. But it's frustrating because there are times that it happens for three days in a row. ADT doesn't have enough people working and everything is going the wireless systems that everybody you know should have. But there are times that even that doesn't even work right.
We're in a real rural part of Kentucky and it's 45 minutes if the cops ever made it over here. So, we’ve done a lot of it ourselves. But now, ADT said we need a new system. It's too old. Also, I didn't realize it, but their price went up for this quarter. It would have been nice if they warned us that it was happening. But I guess it must be in line with everybody else.

I received a past due bill for $166 from ADT (July 2024). I don't have ADT or any home security for that matter. When I called they stated that ADT acquired some or part of Alder Security, I went on to explain that my contract ended with Alder February 13, 2024. After being transferred 4 times, being put on hold, total time on phone was 45 minutes, Stacy asks that I email her a copy of the cancellation letter, which I do, she says ok, it's been updated and we hang up. 3 days later I get a bill for $650, a cancellation fee!! Of course I call back and eventually got transferred to Mary who said "you either pay it or it goes on your credit report because we are not waiving it" and apparently she owns ADT because she said there isn't anyone above her lol.
I get a call from Timothy after he is notified by my Better Business Bureau posting (not sure of his title) who said "We have the contract from Alder dated March 2023 for a 3 year contract. I tried to explain to him that I did not sign that contract and that is the reason why Alder deemed it null and void because I did not sign that and I am the only person on the account. Timothy basically said too bad, you have to pay. So, next week I will change security companies for my 3 retail stores who currently have ADT and dispute my credit report when it appears because I am NOT paying anything!

Their customer service is absolutely useless; they transfer clients without any notice or briefing to the new agent. ADT scammed me out of some money with the help of Alder Security. This company charged me for services that did not use. Alder Security neglected to update my account as closed upon the acquisition of it by ADT. My account was closed and I have proof but ADT refused to review my proof. Leading to me to be forced to pay a balance that should have never been charged to me. Report to the BBB if this is happening to you because of Alder's negligence and ADT’s lack of compassion and integrity.

In the beginning, ADT was great, but we lost Nest about eight months ago and nobody from ADT or Google is able to fix it. I'm getting rid of it because it is ridiculous that I'm paying for something I can't even use and nobody can figure out how to fix it. Nobody cares. ADT said, "Oh, well, we can't figure it out. So it's Google's problem." I called Google who then said, "Well, it's ADT's problem. They're the ones that sold it to you." I'm tired of getting bounced around. So, I talked to my wife and as soon as our contract is up, we're canceling ADT. When we got ADT, apparently, there was a promotion for 19.99, but they charge us full price from day one. I'm up to the point that I don't care. I just wanna be done with ADT and move on. The mobile app is good. It's just I can't look at my driveway. I pay extra for that.

Dear ADT Customer Service, I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the process I have encountered while attempting to cancel my ADT service. In June, I contacted ADT to cancel my account due to moving. I was informed by your representative that, as my contract had ended, the cancellation would proceed smoothly. I was also advised that I would receive a final bill within 2-4 weeks and that any charges for the next month would be credited in the final bill. However, after two months, I had not received a final bill. I called customer service and spent four hours speaking with various representatives, but I was unable to get a clear response. Despite my repeated requests, I have not received any email confirmation of my cancellation. Additionally, no one has addressed the issue of the credit for the two months of charges after my account was supposed to be canceled.
This experience has been extremely frustrating, and it seems that the process of canceling an account is unnecessarily difficult and inefficient. I hope you understand that promoting a culture of fear around cancellations is not a sustainable business practice. I request immediate attention to the following issues:
Confirmation of the cancellation of my account. An updated final bill reflecting any credits due for the charges after my cancellation request.
A clear and concise resolution to this matter.
I expect a prompt and professional response to resolve these issues. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,Nima

ADT tricked me into signing with them. I got a call on a Saturday morning about Home Service Plus. I said yes and within five minutes, I got a call from ADT. They wanted me to switch so that I could bundle and save money. I told the rep I still have a contract with Fluent. I was with ADT, but Fluent came, lied to me and told me that ADT had changed their name to Fluent. When I was talking to the guy from ADT, I told him I would switch when my contract was over. The guy said, "You've been with Fluent for two years. I'm pretty sure that you would be able to switch now."
I thought ADT was a better company but they proved me wrong. They put the equipment in. A week later, Fluent came here and reinstalled their equipment. I was paying both Fluent and ADT. Fluent was the company that was monitoring my safety. I have ADT's system working here for a week. The salesman promised me that I wouldn't have a problem and that he wouldn't let me get screwed on this deal. But he never answered my calls after that. They wouldn't work with me.
I got into paying for two services that I don't get anything back from. I explained to them that I have a detached retina. I've had five surgeries, and I've had copays for these surgeries. I'm 72 years old on a fixed income. I'm trying to save the vision in that eye. But they didn't care at all. The one time I tried to make a claim with Home Service Plus, they wouldn't do anything. They screwed me around out of thousands of dollars between the two of them, ADT and Home Service Plus. They're making it hard for me now to quit them. I wanna go off automatic payments because that's the way they get you to forget. There's one or two weeks a year that you can quit their service and if you forget, you're screwed for another year. That's what's happening to me. I would never deal with ADT ever again.

ADT is horrible. I had a problem with the neighbor and I contacted ADT because I needed cameras all around my property. I told them I wanted a camera that is going to record 24/7 and I want one that every time there's motion, they give me a notification on my cell phone. They said they have the best thing ever and I paid almost $3,000 for four cameras. On the day of installation, the camera didn't work properly. The guy that was here wiggled something there and made it work. It worked for a month and stopped. It's been a year. I have been nagging them all the time that they need to come and fix it and they said I need to pay for another installation.
Also, I never get notifications. People bring dogs to poop on my front yard and I cannot see who does it because the camera never gives me the notification. They said that if I go on the system, I'm going to see a little peak and that's movement detected. But I cannot go through 24 hours or more of recording to see every little peak on the recording. They have an app and I can see the recording live if I click on that, but then I need to be looking at that all the time to see. It doesn't give me a notification that it caught movement, so it's pretty much useless. It's the worst and I hate them. Don't get ADT because they suck. Go with somebody else.

We bought a house and ADT was offered through our mortgage broker. It was a free home security system with these four different things and you could add on if you wanted. I'm not very satisfied though. Before we had ADT, we're just using some Wi-Fi security cameras that did all the same things and didn't cost me anything. The way ADT set our cameras up, we don't have a 360 view of our property. The guy that installed said that he couldn't get it on the north side of my house. So we have one camera that faces the back and one camera that faces the south. So, all we really see is southwest.
I wanted the 20% off my homeowner’s insurance. That's why we went with ADT. If we had an actual security system, we'd get the discount. If it was just our home system, it didn't offer the discount. We've only had our security system for three months and the little door sensors are falling off. So, we get the bypass notifications often, but it still works.

I'm trying to change ADT. I don't like it. I live in Las Vegas. They used to have a 24-hour ADT agent, and they used to have 20 agents across counties in Las Vegas. One time, I had my alarm go off but it was a false trigger. I wasn't home, and somebody came. Usually, people come in within 30 minutes or less. This guy came in two hours later and said, “Hey, the alarm was triggered.” I asked, “Who are you?” He said, “I'm from ADT.” I said, “I don't see your ADT gear on.” These guys usually come in with ADT gear. They have bulletproof vests, flashlights, and batons. They looked like they were ready to take care of some business, but this guy came in with a yellow shirt, and it had another name on it.
I guess what ADT is doing is they're subcontracting with other people. It didn't seem like he was really trained. He wasn't looking around even though I said, “Yeah, it was a false trigger.” It could be anybody that says it's a false trigger. He didn't have a badge number. When I told him it was a false trigger, he was like, “Okay.” Then he left.
We all have ADT in our community. I live in a big community and I'm in the HOA, so I'm proposing that everyone get another system because what ADT is doing now is cutting costs and it's putting our lives in danger. If something was to happen at night and they're coming two hours later, someone's gonna be dead. They're still contracting these people, and the grid of how much they have to cover is a lot smaller. Sometimes, freak things happen. People could be in danger.
I'm paying almost $60 a month on a false security. I'm actually buying into the idea of security. I was just very disappointed to find out that that's what ADT is doing. They're subcontracting with another company that's not properly trained. I'm happy with the equipment. I'm not happy with the way that they're trying to cut corners. There are over 50 people who have ADT in our community. Once I find another security organization, they're ready to drop ADT. Two other neighbors have also encountered those yellow-shirt guys. Times are really rough now. It is scary. ADT needs to get its act together.

I would never go with ADT again. I'm not happy with their service. I had used them in the past and it wasn't as complicated as it was this time. I had issues with devices and I tried and got help but it seemed like the only thing that mattered to them was to keep me as a customer. So even when I mentioned wanting to pay the early termination fee, it didn't seem like I was a customer. It just seemed like I was another cash coming in.
The battery was going dead on one of the sensors so I tried to get in touch with ADT and the rep said I have to look at the manual to find out what battery to put on there. So, she wasn't very helpful in the beginning. Then, I went to change it and the alarm went off. I called ADT again and asked what was going on. I was just trying to change the battery. They told me I was not supposed to do that here and sent me extra batteries and told me what to do. It seems like the problem wasn't a problem until it was a problem. And then, they would say they could help me out. And they had a whole bunch more information that they didn't provide beforehand. It was late. But ADT was quick in giving me a call when the alarm went off. I’ve only set the alarm maybe 20 times in the three years I’ve had it just because I'd rather not deal with it.

We'll talk to the police if they get there.” The police never showed up. But apparently, the police did come and investigate, and this dog was very, very happy. Like, “I heard a noise. Somebody is knocking at the door, and now you come home early!"

I'm very glad I got ADT. Before, I would hear creaks and sounds sometimes in the house and I would listen, but I don't do that anymore because my alarm is on. I would hear my alarm go off because everything is connected to an alarm system. So I feel more secure and sleep better. The installation went perfectly fine. A gentleman came and did it. Then he went over the product with me. All of my windows and doors are marked. I would hear any entry way that somebody could possibly come in. My alarm would go off so that is reassuring to me. The little gizmo to turn it on and off is fine. The board that is in my home is perfect. It's very easy for somebody to understand, like myself. Both of my sisters have the same kind.

We moved to Alabama on the 1st of May and got ADT shortly after that. They are better priced than what we had in Mississippi. A gentleman came to the house and asked us to sign up and gave us all the details. He was here for about an hour. He explained everything and gave my new details. The installation was not so pretty though. The guy came and he did not have all the equipment. Also, he was supposed to come back but he didn't. Then when they sent somebody else, they didn't send them with all the details. He had to leave and come back and get more equipment.
Other than that, we got it done and that was all that was important. I have a daughter who has extreme anxiety and lives with me and ADT has been wonderful for her because every time that something moves, she knows about it. And because of our new stove, we set the alarm off twice already. Before we could get the smoke alarm off, they had already called the fire department.

ADT did what we asked them to do, and they delivered on what we were sold. The house that we purchased had ADT in it, so we reached out to them to see what they could do with the system that was there in place. I had them come out to do a survey to see what we had and needed to do. At that time, the components that we had for some of the windows were not new enough to really work with the system. So, we decided to just upgrade the system. Everything went smoothly. We got that done in the afternoon. We got all the windows and all the sensors put in. It didn't take any extra time.

I stayed with ADT but have wanted to cancel for a long time because the rates go up increasingly, and when you have a problem with your alarm, you don't speak to somebody from the United States. You speak to somebody from Indonesia and that is a big problem. Once it was almost like Dubai and I couldn't understand what the lady said. And the second time, I called when I had a problem with the beeping sound going off and I didn't know if it was the main battery that's located down the basement, which is a huge battery that you got to buy from them for 50 bucks. I got this person who, on a very early Sunday morning, I could barely understand. I asked her if I could speak to somebody else and where I was calling. That was when I found out she was in Indonesia.
So I sent ADT a crappy email to say that that was ridiculous. This is a system that I'm paying for and I live in the United States. My money comes directly out of my checking account to pay my ADT. So if I have a problem with my system, why can't I speak to somebody from the United States? I pay them this money and they couldn't even get somebody to fix my problem for me. So I had to call in a private alarm company to help me.
Aside from that, the system's functionality is not that great anymore. It has declined really bad. Another thing is, if you had a smoke detector that went off, you would panic in your house and you'd be opening up doors. But nobody from ADT would call when your alarm would go off. It was almost like they looked at their end of the system, then confirmed that the alarm was not set, and assumed that we must be in the house. So I don't like that part about it. I'm unhappy with them and when I wrote to a supervisor, I never heard back from anybody. I would never recommend them to any of my friends.

Before, when the alarm went off, I got a phone call right away, in less than a minute. But now, nobody calls me. When I had a problem, I called customer service but they could not figure out what happened until I figured out by myself. I got two keypads - one is installed on the wall and the other one is wireless. For the wireless one, they were supposed to come with the adapter. I called them if they could send me an adapter so I could install it on the wall. But no one answered my phone call at all until today. It's very hard to a the representative. I called the guy that sold the system to me but he never picked up the phone. Also, compared with another company, ADT costs more. I know about the quality so that's why they have to pay more maybe but the price is going up. It's very high right now without a notice.

ADT's reps have always been very helpful and if we had an issue, they've always come out and it's always been a pleasant situation. We started with the basic package and we just upgraded. We like the service and the fact that we have the cameras everywhere. We can set the alarm then if we are not home and we have someone that needs to get in the house, we can disconnect the alarm so they can come in. We really like that. Then, once they're gone, we can reset the alarm. We would highly recommend ADT and we have recommended them to all of our friends.

ADT sucks. I was forced into getting it. A guy named Angel told me he'd never let me down, but I haven't heard from him. I told the other representative that tried to talk to me, if he brings his stuff back over, I have a case. I would be going to court behind that issue of him lying to me the way he did. The service is worthless to me. I'm having too many problems with it including billing. There's a lot of stuff in there. I had the service once and thought it probably changed but it didn't. It's lousy.
If somebody breaks in, it's gonna take a while for the alarm to go off. The guy that came by said I gotta do this and that. But no one left me any paperwork saying I gotta do all this. The alarm went off but I knew nothing about it. It didn't tell my phone that the alarm was going off. I was in the garage when my daughter called me and told me the alarm was going off. I ran back in the house and pushed the button. I could have been sitting in the garage with it on if my daughter had been somewhere else and had her phone off.I also don't know why the alarm goes off by itself. I tried to talk to them to see what was going on. At the time, I had about a week grace period but they told me I didn't have a grace period.

ADT was secure enough for my supervisor to use them on their business. They've been around forever, and they're a well-known brand name, so I trusted them. We spoke with Katie, the ADT rep. She's the one who took care of making sure the install took place for the business. She came to the business and looked at the layout initially and then we worked with her later on. Katie was very personable. We asked a lot of questions, and she had all the answers. Even afterwards, she gave us her phone number and said, "If you think of any questions later, just give me a call or shoot me a text." She was very accessible and very friendly.
Katie offered us a discount on the installation and set-up fees for our home and it was a great deal, so we went with it. Installation was wonderful. The gentleman's name was Blyth, and he was very informative. We chit-chatted while he was hooking everything up and fixing everything. He answered all my questions well and was very pleasant and professional. We have the basic package, and I wish there was a tiered plan with two to three options. We have a four-bedroom home, but we literally just set the system, and we just have one camera. Other than that, we've been happy with the service and the product. I've used the camera on the doorbell quite a bit.

I had to block my automatic payment. They blatantly lied that they upgraded the system in the house when no one was home for 2.5 years, and I was in another state with my dying mother. My house was robbed twice, and the system did not work, the police fined me $50 for each false call. Blatantly lied that I signed a contract for another 5 years, and extended it themselves without my signature and consent. Several days on the phone 4-5 hours with ADT. I received bills for five years and fines without signing any agreements and contracts. It was a real mockery. People should go with them. I've had my house for 23 years and that's how long I’ve had ADT. ADT used to sublet to different people so when I got a real agent to come in, they were laughing at my system saying how outdated it was. But I've upgraded my system to the latest version of ADT. I went with Ring with the doorbells and the camera. But my system is with ADT and I have one ADT camera in the house and one in my front garage. They are gorgeous and I’m glad I got them. The Ring cameras have been working with the system and ADT is on it if anything happens.
Before, when anything moved across the sensor, ADT would call. They are very accurate with their time and the customer service never asked me for anything personal. Always, after I gave my personal code for them to authorize, that was it. If they don't get me, they get my mom and my daughter's dad. And they would tell me that ADT was calling me. I work in the hospital and I have bad reception, which is why I have those as my backup. The reps were on point and went through the chain of command of calls. One of the cameras was acting nuts and customer service walked me right through it. She fixed it for me and we resolved the issue. So now, I'm getting just the right notifications for someone who's walking on my property. Before, when any car passed by, I was getting notifications and I didn't know how to fix it. So, the customer service for that was very good.
The prices have been going up and there is a rental fee for the equipment but ADT is doing great security-wise. I never sat down and asked why they were doing separate billing for both. It is what it is. And it's cheaper than any other system that I know of, at the moment. The website is great. I only go there if I'm having technical difficulties with the mobile. I have my payment on auto pay so I go in there every now and then just to check and see what's new. But I'm on my mobile every day because I get notifications. I look at things that I may miss during the day.
I had an issue with my equipment and I didn't even know. The battery was low and I was looking at the connection. I never knew that the panel had a battery pack in the back of it because I figured everything was wired. Nobody discussed that with me. I found out about that the hard way because the alarm kept going off and I was trying to figure out why. There was no outage and the system wasn't down. When installing the equipment, the techs need to let people know that there is a battery pack that may go dead. In my area, we had a bunch of outages and the battery will start being noticed after you have two or three outages. It will start saying the battery is low.
Pamela its because of our fantastic longtime ADT family members like you that ADT is so great. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback and review.

I compared ADT with another home security system and the subscription was a little bit higher. The installation guy was good and I had no issues at that time. But it was a couple of years ago and it’s been a while now that I haven't been satisfied. We have a back camera and it wasn't capturing what needed to be captured and not recording. If I wanted to see if something happened, no feature on the app allows me to go back and see it. And even though it tells you that you can put the last 50 events for all cameras, it doesn’t. It only shows the recording of the front doorbell Ring camera. But it does not show anything of the back camera. So, I’ve been very dissatisfied with ADT, which is why I don't want to continue my contract with them. Once the contract is over, I just want it to be completely over. I contacted them and they put whatever feature on there and charged me an additional $10. But that was just a waste.

ADT did a good job with the installation. But I keep having problems. I'm dissatisfied. And this is for my security reasons. My cameras are good, but my sensor on my office window would not stick to my window. I now have to buy double-sided tape. It would keep going off. I had an alarm alert. That was when I was at work. So, it was a big concern. Also, I'm having trouble with my garage. It keeps opening when I leave my property and I set my house alarm. And it would be open all day. I have told them that before. And it happened two times. I disconnected it because I didn't wanna risk my house being broken into while I'm not home because the garage is open all the time. I called ADT and I reported it. I'm not happy with ADT, and as soon as my contract is up, I'm not going to be with them. I will badmouth them to everybody. I was sold equipment I didn't need, probably because the service technician would get a commission for selling me stuff. I was pressured, and I needlessly spent money on it. So now I have two control panels in my house, which is ridiculous. But that was what he wanted to sell me. And that was what I had to do in order to continue service.
ADT is a national brand. I did a comparison of the national brand versus the local companies that the prior owners used. The local company had a higher rate, but ADT offered me a low introductory rate. I asked the local one if they could match it, and they said no. Also, the local company wanted a three-year contract whereas ADT was willing to give me a six-month contract. But I found ADT could be a very big bait and switch. I was very dissatisfied. I would like to save everyone the headache of signing up with ADT, or at least do their due diligence and getting everything in writing.
The guy who showed up tried to change my contract. He pulled up something on his phone, and said, “Here. Sign here. This is an updated contract.” I said, “No, wait. I'm not signing. I can't read that on your phone.” I don't know what that updated contract said, but who knows? He tried all kinds of shady stuff. Also, when I would call in to get help, I would be passed along to six different people, and eventually, it would loop around back to the first person I spoke with. It was a lot of past phone calls and with no warm transfer. That meant I would have to re-explain my whole story all over again with each new person. That was very frustrating.
There was an existing system already in my house. When I spoke with people on the phone, they said, “Oh, yes. It's going to be a minimal charge because we're just going to fire up the existing system and connect it over to ADT.” So that was what I expected. When the actual service technician showed up at my door, it was a different story. He said, “Oh, no. You have to do something to have it disconnected because we can't use their proprietary equipment unless it's disconnected.” I said, “The equipment belonged to the prior owner, and they've left months ago. It's no longer active. They wouldn't be continuing to pay on an account.”
They said, “You need to get them to disconnect.” It was a Saturday, and they said, “We can come back next week.” I was under a deadline. So they said, “I guess our only option is to provide you with new equipment, ADT’s equipment, for $500.” I said, “That's not acceptable.” He said, “Let me talk to my manager.” Like a used car salesman, always had to “talk to their manager.” He came back and said, “We'll give it to you for $300. And I have all the equipment here and I can install it now.”
I had no options because I needed the system connected in order to get homeowners insurance. I was misled, and there was a bait and switch regarding the service technician selling me something that I didn't need, because later, when I spoke with customer service, they said, “You could have used the existing equipment. It was fine. It was new. It was updated. It was state of the art. You could have switched it over.” When I called that other company, they said, “Yes, that system is not proprietary. You could have switched it over. They sold that to you needlessly.” That made me very upset.
I called ADT and said, “This is unacceptable. I want a refund. I want this equipment out.” They said, “No. Once it's installed, it's installed.” I said, “I would like to speak to a supervisor. I would like you to consider this an escalated call. This is very unsatisfactory.” They said, “Sure. We'll call you back.” But no one called. Also, I'm supposed to get a certificate so that the fire department knows that I have an alarm tied up to their call center. ADT told me that they would issue a certificate, but the representative who showed up at my door to install the equipment I didn't need said, “You need to go yourself to the county courthouse.” I said, “What county courthouse?” He said, “I guess the county seat for this county. You gotta go to the county courthouse and petition them or fill out a form. You have to go in person.” I said, “I can't do this online? ADT doesn't help me with this?” He said, “No. That's on your own.” It was extremely disappointing.

I used to have ADT long time ago and it was the real ADT guys, not somebody they hired on the side. I kept getting tricked by the people who got me to sign because I thought it was ADT, but it was those guys. They just have their everything. And in order for them to come back to fix it, I would have to pay and that's why I'm not pleased. These authorized dealers ADT uses are terrible. They do anything to get you to the sign. I thought ADT is doing that, but they bring their little crew in and do something fast. And when I let them know something is not right, "You're gonna have to pay for us to come back out."
When the rep told me about the camera I got, they couldn't put it where they said they would. So it points to somewhere I don't want it to be. After they got up there, "Oh, I'm sorry. We're not gonna be able to do it that way." All that ADT told me was to call the people who installed it. I was so frustrated. Also, I have a side door. That's my back door, though. A double door. I couldn't lock it because the tech didn't even check it. So when they put the alarm there, we couldn't even close the door to lock it. When I called them, they wanted to charge me the same day to come back out and fix that. I fussed with them.
I don't call ADT if something was wrong. I have to call them. They don't answer the phone. They tell me to leave a message and they would call me back. I hate it. Within two days, somebody left a pot on too long. The house smoked up. At first, the fire alarm didn't go off. But when we take a shower and open the door, the fire alarm would go off. So, they did a sloppy job. I don't trust anything they did. They're the one supposed to know what they're doing. It has been a terrible experience. I'm sure if real ADT guys had come, it would be different.

I had ADT in my previous residence and we recently purchased a property so we had to get the system done again. There were some miscommunication and some issues with some of their electrical technicians that were coming here. That was the only negative I have with them. I had to go and get an outside contractor to install some stuff and when I wanted to get reimbursed for what I was paid, they never validated the service from the third party. I had to spend more than the contract, even though they were the ones that brought in techs who were not ready. They didn't have any equipment and didn't know what to do and there was no senior technician with them. I have the sensor for the door, the heating and cooling system, and their security panel and it's good. Also, their apps are pretty easy to handle.

I chose ADT because they secure the Pentagon. I made a huge mistake. I attempted to upgrade my security system because I have a stalker who is likewise on the Federal Watch List. He was arrested in my driveway and was charged with a felony and two misdemeanors. He is out of jail. I am scared. ADT was supposed to add two cameras, two doorbells, a fire alarm, eight window sensors, and two glass-shatter sensors. I have had two technicians since I scheduled my upgrade. One who broke my attic stairs entirely, and now I have a hefty bag taped over my attic trap door because there is a two-inch gap sucking air conditioning. He was 6'4" and seemed over 300 lbs. He said he would return the next day to fix it. He did not.
Another technician came, and over the course of six hours, he was being advised by someone in the ADT technology department who had to walk him though three of the exact same keypad installations. I had to listen to him on speaker phone for hours. All of my doors were wide open with the air on. There are swarms of flies all over my house. He had no clue what he was doing. One of my doors will not lock at all, and my cameras are now offline even after all of the troubleshooting I did on the phone with ADT - but they have not a clue. I cannot get a technician for four more DAYS. I have twelve sealed Google boxes on my kitchen table that are what should have been installed last week. The customer service representative told me that my job was filed as, "completed."
I will be filing for a payment to have my attic stairs replaced and paid for by ADT. I am also having them come pick up what is here, remove what is installed, and I will be going with another alarm company. What the hell happened to ADT? I will be sleeping in a hotel until then, because ADT doesn't care WHY I am a customer; They only care that I AM a customer. I am in fear for my life, so I need a company that helps me. I am less secure after the techs came. My back door will not lock. My cameras are off, and I have a stalker. Clearly, I am just a number to ADT. They've charged me $181.00 for the installation that never happened, and it has cleared in my bank account.
Tighten up, ADT. This kind of non-action is why your customers are dropping like the flies that are all over my house thanks to, "Justin." I look forward to cancelling my ADT system, if I'm not murdered first. I'm not being hyperbolic; there's a high chance. How many of your customers get heads-up phone calls from FBI detectives? Also, the best that the ADT customer service representative could do was to ask me if I have a gun -- you know in the meantime, until they can "get a technician out there." Gee thanks.

I’ve never had a problem with ADT before. But just lately, I had a problem with payment. ADT was saying that I didn't pay but I did. Finally, I had to call somebody else because their customer service wouldn't help me. It took me some time to fix the problem because I was reaching the online customer service. Then, I called them and it didn't work. I also told them I talked with my bank. I finally called another number and spoke with the main manager. I'm good now though I had a problem lately that my app on the phone didn't work for a time. But I arrived here and it started working. My worry is that it won't work when I travel. But ADT says it will.

When I first moved into the place, a salesman from ADT came to my door and was offering a good deal, which turned out to be not such a good one. What I ended up with was not the same. It was a mess getting things hooked up properly. A year ago, the cameras weren’t working. And then, I had somebody put an alarm on the door. The guy who came after that said that they put the wrong thing in there and they shouldn’t have done that. So, he put something else and there was some problem after that. Everything has been resolved with that issue but it was not an easy thing.
When I have any kind of issue, I have a hard time getting it dealt with. As far as responding to the alarms, that's working fine. But right now on my backyard camera, it's offline and I can't get it back online. I can't figure out how to do it. So I tried to get ahold of ADT, but couldn't even get through to anything. So, I just gave up on it. I gotta figure it out on my own. There's no other way to do it. Every time I try to contact ADT, I gotta go through six different steps and I ended up having a representative come a couple of times and paying money. But the same problem comes back. I’m not happy with the whole service and considering everything else, the price is not very good. If things are working fine, I would be okay with what they charge. But from what I'm paying, I expected a little better service.

My system was outdated and I was looking to switch plans. The service provider that I was with was gonna charge me about $2,500 to replace one of the panels. But ADT pretty much did the whole house for under $1,000. Plus, I no longer had to use a landline. So that was a saving. The technician that came out for the installation was good and very thorough. They do try and upsell you. But I stuck to my guns and what made sense. I ended up with a better system anyways because the fire is connected now to the central station, whereas my previous fire was not. So it was definitely a great value that ADT offered. At first, I was trying to get used to the system. That part of it was not as well explained by the technician. But I was able to call him and he answered my questions immediately and was able to fix the issue I was having with the alarm. So overall, it was great.

I added the camera system and I tried to get ADT to send a rep out and that was the hardest thing ever to do. I never got a rep to come out to see. All the rep that I talked to did was give me pricing on cameras. But the cameras would not work with the system that I had to begin with. I have to have an up-to-date system. So that cost me a whole lot more extra and I wasn't planning for it. During the installation, the guy spent about three hours just working on the phones. I told him, "You better call some help." But he said, "No, I could do it." He didn't get it done till about 6:30. I said, "If you would have more help, you would have cut the time in half."
After he punched the phones in, everything else messed up, including my wife's iPad and the connections. It was a fiasco back and forth. ADT said, "They can't do it. You gotta call Comcast, your cable provider." My wife spent six hours one day and she couldn't get anybody to fix it until the second day. She finally connected with one guy from Comcast that knew how to do it, and he did it in less than an hour. He just ran it through the system. He knew what to punch in and how to delete this and how to recreate this and bring up the account and brought her iPad up-to-date.
I had a camera that the battery went dead. I was under the impression that these batteries don't go dead. They stay charged up all the time. But he messed with it and thought he had it. So he switched cameras. But the following day, the battery went dead again. So ADT said, "Well, we gotta send the manager and an employee out." But nobody could come out. The manager couldn't come out. He was on vacation. So that didn't work. Then they sent the original guy that installed the phone and my wife didn't want him back here.
The guy had to put a whole new camera in again, and then found out that it was a wiring in the camera that caused everything. So far, it's working great. But the only thing is this guy was bragging about the cameras and about deliveries coming to your door. I said, "Okay." He said, "You'll get notified whenever you get a package or delivery." But I haven't called them back up again. I told him, "Don't call. Don't even bother. Don't even mess with that."
When I get a package, I don't get any notification on my phone. All I get is when pedestrians walk by and I get this beep on my phone because they put the red zone on the side of the sidewalk. So I never know when I get a package delivered. One time I had a package delivered two hours ago and my wife said, "Hey, you know what? Go check the front door. I see it on my iPad here that it got delivered." Sure enough, I looked out there and there was a package. The phone never did anything and this guy bragged about how good it does. I paid about $300 for the camera. I only had two cameras put in. That's kind of high price. But when I turn my cameras on at night time, it looks like you could actually see the person walking by or it just brings more daylight. My other cameras didn't do that. So I was impressed with that one.

ADT is good, and we like it. They provide a good service. We had a guy come out here who was very heavyweight and to reach the box in our garage, he had to lean his ladder against our refrigerator, and he put dents on it. ADT compensated for it after I said it would cost $400 each to replace each door. After they heard that, they gave us the sum of money my husband originally wanted, which was $100. It took a long time to get the money, but we got it. But otherwise, alarm-wise and service-wise, they've been great.
The last guy we had put a couple Google Nest products in for us. He was super nice. Even though their computer was down that day and they couldn't wrap it up, he didn't let it panic him. ADT is a trusted brand and I don't have any issues with them. They're not the least expensive but they have excellent customer service and their equipment is pretty good. One time, I had a false alarm where I had contractors at my home and they opened the wrong door. ADT really ticked me off because they couldn't turn the alarm off. I was away from the home and they said I had to get the app. So, I downloaded the app and it was easy to navigate. But I went through all the rigmarole and I still couldn't turn the alarm off because of the mere fact that you have to subscribe to an additional service. So, I was not happy with that incident. On the other times when I had false alarms, they would call me first and the cops were not dispatched because once they called me, I intervened.

I've been with ADT for a lot of years, but I'm thinking about getting rid of them. They changed my system but they kept the old monitoring devices in my house that I've had since I've had ADT. I'm thinking about going with somebody else because I'm sick and tired of them. I still have the equipment in my house from 2010. Technology has changed since 2010. I still have the old equipment, which I don't like because I had a problem with it yesterday. I have had offers to get it upgraded which will cost anywhere about $200 or $300. I can go to another company and don't have to do that. When some of the telephone companies have customers who have been with them for a long time, they give them discounts. ADT doesn't give you anything. Everybody runs promotions. ADT doesn't run promotions for old customers. I pay my bill on time. I have never been late. So, I'm pissed with them.
While my equipment is old, it's working. My system uses the regular batteries. Now, they have a different type of battery that they use. Since mine is battery operated, the battery went out and we replaced it with a new battery. I didn't know it was battery operated. They had to show me exactly how to change the batteries, and I did that. Before I did that, the person I was talking to didn't even understand what kind of system I had because that person was only familiar with their current system. I had go on YouTube in order to find out exactly how to get the battery off out of the old system. So then I asked her, “Well, how about an upgrade to the new system? This is a lot easier.” They said, “Yeah, we can do the upgrade.” I said, “When do I get an appointment for that?” They said it is $100 a piece and I have four, so I'd be paying about $400 if I upgrade it.

I'm not impressed with ADT at all. I was misled by the sales rep at the very get-go. They had a specific amount of equipment they would put in with the contract that the developer had built into the cost of the home. Then they had all these add-ons and when we were discussing the products that we were gonna go in place, they told me one thing and did another after I declined spending another $4,300 to upgrade the system.
The equipment they stuck in is second-rate. I've had the camera doorbell replaced four times. The camera sometimes will notify us that somebody's in the backyard or in the driveway. 95% of the time, it does not. The video quality is terrible. The installation team is a subcontractor to ADT so it's a nightmare to get a straight answer out of anybody. You get passed back and forth between the two. Nobody can understand me when I talk to them on it and I can't understand them. As soon as this contract is up, I'm done with ADT for good.

I found out that I didn't even have the alarm service for about six months because he had messed up the wires with my phone and I didn't know what he was doing. However, I was compensated by ADT. They knocked the amount that I had paid and reimbursed me with that. I did discontinue my service because mine was running through my landline, and I turned off my landline. I've been with ADT now for about 20 years and I've been satisfied. I stayed with them because I was pleased with the service and I had no need to change. They met all of my demands. So, I have nothing but good reports. Whenever I've had a need for service, they were very prompt and professional and courteous. I was relocating a device because of a window change. I had them on my windows and they replaced the window. Therefore, ADT had to replace the new sensor in the window. It worked out fine.
Based upon what's in the market today, ADT is a reputable company that meets all our needs. I'm not in a very compact area. I have space between me and my neighbors and everyone else and it's not a highly traffic area in terms of coming and going. So, some of the needs that may be with a highly compact area where a lot of people going and coming would be a little bit of a nuisance. I don't have that problem. So, I would recommend it if somebody asked me.

My ADT system's features are good. I like the cameras being accessible from the app. I like to be able to talk through the doorbell no matter where I am. That's very helpful. It's just I had issues with my security system and I went through a third-party vendor because ADT would only come out for the first 90 days. It says low battery and the sensors are off and there are all kinds of issues with it. And when I would call ADT, they'd only put somebody on the line and they would say, "Reset your system," and they were like, "If you want somebody to fix it, we're gonna charge you to come out because it's past your 90 days." The first 90 days, stuff was happening and somebody would come out the next day and fix it. So, I was like, "Okay, this is great."
Then after that, they were like, "Oh, yeah, you're past the 90 days. So now, we have to do a remote. And then, if we send somebody, we have to charge you for it." It was explained after the 90 days was up. Another thing is that when you sign up with ADT, you have to do 36 months. So, I wouldn't recommend it unless you know that they use third-party vendors. So you might not have service when you need it, and then it's a 36-month obligation.

The installation wasn’t great but it was okay. The guy who was there was so big he needed two ladders just to climb up and drill on the side of the house. And when he was in the house, he could barely get around. He was using a work cart like a walker and scratched a couple of walls. I called the agent who sold me the system and told him I didn't want him back in my house. But they still sent him back. It took this installer four times to come to my house and finish the installation. I wish I had some cameras that recorded a little bit longer. All I get is a 20-second clip. I have my front and my back covered but I need two more cameras for the back of my house, and I wouldn't mind having one in my garage as well.
ADT has been very supportive if I've had to call technical help. I had a problem accessing the internet with the system and it was on my end. But they walked me through it and helped me troubleshoot it and get it running. I had ADT installed at my mother's house and that was a whole different story. It was a nightmare but most of it was my mother's fault. She wanted cameras and I said I'm already set up with ADT and we’ll get them to come to her house and set it up. So, I did. I haven't been on the website to check them lately so I couldn't tell if they're working.
I've gotten a new reading and the code on it was number 11. They talked with me over the phone about how to reset it and that seemed to make it go away. But we've had so many little quick power blips and that code 11 is back again. I don't understand why it keeps showing up. They kept telling me that it was for the lamp that wasn't plugged into the sensor. There was no lamp there so I don't know what sensor they were talking about. When the battery comes out, ADT should send somebody out because I'm paying for the service, instead of doing self-service and having to stay to stay on the phone for 15 minutes to get them to help me. My bill is still the same. It's not going down.

ADT could have been a little bit more thorough with the installation. Because my husband and I are elderly, I thought they would have done a little bit more instructing on how to use some of the menu items. The tech was very pleasant and did what he had to do, but he could have been more thorough. ADT is a little bit on the pricey side. I also don't always find their website easy to navigate. I had ADT in my other house but it has been nothing but a nightmare since we moved. I wanted ADT because I'm out in the country. So, service isn't good out here. ADT told me I needed the system wired in the house so it would work better. ADT came out, ran all the wires for the system. The stupid builder came out and sheetrocked over the bundle of wires for the voltage. So, when ADT came out to put in the system, instead of not putting it in, because the system I bought, they could not put in, they just decided to drill all new holes in the ceiling, in my shiplap, and put up a wireless system. They put in a system I didn't pay for. I prepaid for the system that was supposed to go in my house, and they put a different one in.
I had these holes in my wall for the control panels. I had to pay to have the builder to come back in and fix all that was there from before, plus, fix all the holes in the ceilings that were supposed to be for the wires. Instead, they just drilled all new holes. ADT said, "We came out to install it and we couldn't install the right system, so we had to put it in something else.” “No. You could have rescheduled the installation.” They ruined my house instead. I have shiplap in one of my ceilings, and they went in and drilled more holes. Even though the holes were already there for what they were supposed to put in, they drilled in for the new wireless ones. And coming through my door, I had a big hole in the wall for the keypad. Now I have to have one that is plugged in. So, I got a wire going to a plug because I couldn't have the wired system. I have to have wireless. So, the stupid control panel has to be plugged in.
The only chance I had to make the system work right was when the house was built. ADT came out here, screwed it all up and fixed it, so I don't have a chance to have a good system now. So, no matter who I have to come out here, it would be a horrible wireless system. It has been a nightmare ever since because we have terrible Wi-Fi. And the system sucks. I've had the equipment replaced because it didn't last. ADT's representatives are very nice and helpful, but the company and the equipment sucks. I hate it.

I shouldn't have got ADT. But it sounded nice. I do not set the alarm when I leave and when I go to bed. It's just there on my wall. But if my door was open, it would say front door was open or back door was open or window open. So, if somebody wanted to sneak in, it would tell me where they were coming in at. But when ADT's salesman came here, I do not have Wi-Fi, and I was not informed that I needed a Wi-Fi for the thing to work completely right. So, I always get these things on there. If I cooked something and it got smoky, it would go off. So, the smoke alarm works. But I would not have got it if I had known everything. Also, with a lot of the updates, I would have got it updated, but I would have to call ADT. And they would have to do something online and it would be a pain in the neck. As soon as my contract runs out, I will have it yanked out.

I'm an ADT customer since the 1980s. I don't like the policy now. I'm in my 80s now. I'm not checking each battery. Some of the stuff is wireless. Some of it is not. The last time I figured it out, and one time I couldn't put something in. I had to call the neighbor. I used to be a lot more satisfied with ADT, but I haven't changed the system I have in the house now. There's too much. As far as calling, it's a direct conversation when you call. If you want this, check one, this one too, and then you get on the line, but the line is busy or they hang up on you. They should have a little better system that way. Customer service is very impersonal. I'm an old timer. There's no initiative taken on the other side. If you're talking, they'll say, "You have to do this." Right away, it's the cost. "This will cost you this. This will cost you that."
ADT is thorough. A couple of times, they alerted me. It's just one of the batteries was going off the smoke detector. When I found the right one, I was covered under warranty but someone has to come, and the price is 20 times what it was when we started. I didn't get charged for the product because it wasn't over expired, but I had to pay a service charge. You pay a bill four times a year and once in a blue moon, you have something, I think it's a little chintzy for them to make a charge. Other than that, I'm still using it. So, the system is good.

I live by myself and it's just the security for me to have ADT. Once techs got here, fixing an issue would take not over 30 minutes. Sometimes we troubleshoot over the phone. I could do what ADT told me on my end, and they would tell me what to do. And if it couldn't be resolved, they would come out. They moved my box to a different position because I would go out sometimes and forget to turn the alarm off. It would ring, and here came the deputy. And ADT told me if I kept forgetting to turn it off when I went out to reset it, they would have to start charging me. So, they came out and put it in a place that I couldn't miss it going out. And they set the alarm where it was loud so if somebody came in, my neighbors could hear the alarm going off.

ADT's salesman was very pleasant. That was why we went for it. But the service package is just a waste of money because they are not doing anything for me. If our camera is not recording anything, ADT couldn't provide me anything. And my camera doorbell always breaks down. That was the third time we had to replace it. And ADT wanted me to pay for it. They install, they should pay for the technician who comes to the field. They installed something that doesn't last six months.
If I signed a contract with somebody and that was supposed to be their equipment, when it breaks down, especially when they make something that they installed, it wasn't installed by me, they should replace it. Even when they walk us through, my husband and I are elderly people so we would be unable to do what they wanted us to do. And if we ask them to come and fix it for us, we have to pay for services. I'm just waiting for the period of what I should do to be over. If I'm paying them 60 something every month but they couldn't provide me information on the videos they have, and they asked me to rely on what my phone and the video that I have, it's not worth the service. They are just ripping people off.

I feel like I was tricked. We realized that our system needed to be upgraded, and since my husband and I are both retired, I called to cancel the monitoring because we're most of the time at home now. ADT talked me into doing the upgrade and said that they would do it for no charge. They told me that my monitoring would be 22-something for a month. They sent me a contract to sign, it didn't have that 22 in it. So, I called and told them that I wanted something in writing or something to tell me that that would be my monitoring price. They told me they could not do that until it was installed, that they couldn't make those kinds of changes until the upgrade was done.
When the guy came out, he couldn't do the upgrade work until the contract was signed. So, ADT had me over between a rock and a hard place. When I called them after I had signed the contract, they came up with, "No, your monitoring is gonna be around $40 a month." I didn't have any choice. I signed a contract. I couldn't cancel it because I would have to pay the remainder of the contract. I didn't appreciate being done that way. When I called and talked to them, they gave me six months free monitoring. But now, it will be $40 once the six months is up, and I would have to call them and get in another fuss with them or get them to come down on it. We're on Social Security.

Everything sounded good when I was dealing with the salesman. Afterward, things took a turn and I was trying to cancel, but it wasn't happening. When you talk to them, they seem like they're very helpful. But there's no follow-up behind that. I got ADT for my house and then my mom had a stroke so she moved in with me. I called ADT and told them that I couldn't have it because there was no use in having it. My mom will go in and out of the house and with the alarm, she'll probably set it off and I might not even be home. The features are good but they just didn't make any sense with her being in the house. I asked if there was any way to cancel and the rep said I couldn’t.
My daughter lives down the street from me so I switched it over to her house. ADT switched it over and that whole ordeal was a hot mess and a half. They added a little fee to my monthly bill, which I tried taking off because I read the contract and I could opt out of it. I don't know why they added that. I just gave up. I'll just pay the extra $7 for the next couple of years but I'm not happy with that. I'm just waiting for my contract to be done to be able to be done with ADT.

ADT stinks. The system was good, but their customer support went down the tubes. Before, I had the ability to monitor my alarms on my Android phone, but they decided, “We're not gonna do Android. We're gonna go to Apple.” So, no matter if I had Android or not, still, they would do away with that whole system. So, if I wanted to keep that, I would have to get an iPhone. They said, “Tough luck. It's either upgrade or do without.” I complained to them, “Why don't you come up with the money to get the iPhone then?” “Oh, no. That's on you.” It’s very strange.
I can access it through the home system itself. But if I was out on the road, and I get armed, I could check it on my phone. But they did away with that ability. Being a senior, it would be easier for me to work with a cell phone than to start going through the computer and trying to get all the home equipment logged in, especially if I was out at a doctor's office.
I replaced the system with the Vivint alarms. When I did that, Vivint disconnected the ADT alarm system. A month after they disconnected, ADT sent me an email saying, “We're having problems communicating with your monitor.” Before it got disconnected, I tried calling them to cancel. They asked me for my verbal password. I'm an old man. I don't remember all that stuff. So, I told them, “I don't remember.” They said, “We'll send you a letter.” The letter might have come in. I don't remember that either because of things going on in my life.
I tried to cancel my subscription. So, the best thing I had to do was to discontinue payment. A month ago, I got another call from ADT saying, “Why haven't you paid your bill?” I said, “I've disconnected your system because you weren't doing your job. I tried canceling.” They said, “We see a note here and you already tried canceling, but you couldn't remember the password.” I said, “What has that got to do with canceling my agreement?” “You gotta talk to the people about canceling.” So, they connected me over to the people that does that. That was at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The phone message said, when I got to the area, “We'll contact you by 10:00 p.m. to further accomplish this mission.” 10 o'clock came and went, but I never heard back from them.
Yesterday, I tried calling the number again because they said, “You owe us so much money.” I tried calling that number again because it's not an easy number to get. And they put me in. They said, “Push these phone buttons to get to where you wanna go.” So, I pushed the button to cancel. Message came up and said, “We'll contact you again by 10 o'clock tonight.” Again, nothing. I've been trying to get to take care of that, and they have not been following through. The quality of the company has gone downhill with whoever's running it now. They have lost their contact with people.

Customer service was fine. But I'm not satisfied with the system. The cameras only shoot so big of an area. We thought it would shoot out in the yard when we put it together. And the rep said that the doorbells only shots up and down instead of vertical or out in the yard, horizontal. We like to see the whole outside, down the road, down the street. But we didn't get that. We have that at home. We got that at the other place. But ADT they said they don't do it here.
They said the only thing you see is vertical and so far out like a foot or two. After they put the service in and I said, "What about the Ring doorbell?" We wanted it to shoot out where we could see out in the yard if anybody's messing around. They said, "We can't do that because the Ring doorbells don't go out that far. It only goes vertical.” They couldn't put cameras in that see the area. If they're shooting from the garage, you couldn't put one on the garage that you see way out. Also, when we open the door, when you enter and the doorbell lets me know somebody entered my home, it's not very loud. The only thing it's good for if somebody did break in. Because other than that, I wouldn't know anybody walked in my house if my door was unlocked because I could hardly hear it.

ADT came out and repaired it. And they said, “We can't repair this. You have to buy a new one." That's not right. I still have it at my house. But I have nothing that I could say that is positive about they care for anybody.

You'll have to pay to replace it. We can't fix it." She had been paying the warranty thing on it for 30 years. And it's because they just didn't wanna do it. ADT's core service is excellent. The alarms work and the police come immediately when there's a problem. ADT notifies them immediately if something's going wrong. We've had ADT for years, and the quality of the service in response to a real incident of the alarm going off, which is their base business, is excellent. What's terrible is the customer service. When you call, you have to wait forever. Sometimes, you call, you talk to somebody, they pass you to somebody else, and the call disappears into the ether. Sometimes, I call and talk to somebody and they say I should talk to somebody else. And then the other person doesn't know what's going on. That is appalling. Their billing is incomprehensible, and they don't seem to understand how it works.
Also, you get the beep at 3 o'clock in the morning. Then it requires a call that you have to wait for the connection so that they can stop that particular alarm from beeping uselessly. Another thing is changing the batteries in those alarm things is extremely difficult. Sometimes, they're up on the ceiling. Sometimes, they're in inaccessible places. And even when they're accessible, it's hard to get the cover off to get the battery back in. If I get them to come out and do it, the service charge is about $130. So, all that is ridiculous. Initially, either the batteries were longer lasting or they had people coming around here more frequently, so it was easier to get batteries changed. But for at least three years now, it's been impossible. The app is good when it works is, but frequently, there are problems with it. Fortunately, I have a man who does work around the house who understands computers. So, he reboots it and then it works.

ADT changed my system out one time to give me a more current system. But it would be nice if they were a little more proactive versus when they come in for a service call. Because if there were things that were new that I should know about, I would like to know about them. At another time, I had a yellow light on the system and they gave me instructions of something to do but it didn't work. When the tech came out, he said that was because they were telling me the wrong thing. So, that part wasn't very good because the person on the phone gave me the wrong instructions. And when they sent a tech out, they told me it could be billable. Also, we had a false alarm several years ago and they took care of it. But yesterday, somebody set it off by accident in the house and I never got a call from ADT even if they have an automated service call. This was the first time that that has ever happened as they would normally call right away when you set the alarm off.

The ADT system is very easy to operate. I had one before and it was awful. With the ADT system, all I have to do on here is push two buttons and it's done or push four buttons and it's unarmed. It physically is weighted enough that it stays put when you push buttons. It's handy, visual and digital. I like all that about it. However, I get all these notices every time that I go out or come in and I don't know what they mean. The sensors are in red like there's a problem. I couldn't understand when it would say something about the kids' rooms and nobody even goes in there. I go and check the locks but nothing is disturbed or anything. I've called about that but I've not gotten any answer and I've not had anybody call me back. They didn't explain to me what kind of notices I would get and that I would get them every time there's activity on the camera.
I'm satisfied with the system being updated like it is but I'm not totally satisfied. Their customer service is lacking and the service is too expensive. The technician did an okay job installing things. He took his time and he would make sure they weren't blocked. We just got two cameras and he was telling me, “You'll get something free.” I called to get something free and ended up with this. In fact, when the guy started to write the stuff up, he was first offering me something that was the high end that was over $5,000. I said, "No. I'm not anywhere in that range." I thought it didn't require that much equipment because we have Wi-Fi in the house but I was shocked at how much it costs.

I've been with them for 10 years. They still haven’t resolved my alarm light situation on a dash alert I have, and It’s been 10 years. It sucks. They keep coming down, wasting time and can't get it fixed. Also, even though the alarm goes off, we don’t get an automated call that tells you, “Hey, your alarm went off.” I’m glad there are no emergencies because they don't have somebody out. I was also asking for an update but I couldn't get a hold of them at the time. You gotta wait so long to get to somebody.

All of a sudden, ADT went up four bucks and some change. Also, it takes me several days to get somebody out here when I need something. I've been frustrated with whatever the process is. In the last couple of weeks, I had issues with my doorbell and my driveway. They said the people that I get my internet from needed to do something in order for me to get my camera back up in the driveway, but the internet provider said they could not do what ADT was asking. That frustrated me as well.

The techs at ADT walked me through the problems that I was having. It's been like having a tech in the house, and that's been very nice. The system works very easily and wasn't hard to master at all. I like the remote capabilities of being able to use my phone to turn it on or off. I also like knowing if the alarm goes off, I get a warning on my phone. I'm very secure having the alarm turned on. I turn it on every night before I go to bed. It's a very reliable system and reasonable as far as cost.

I had to get a technician to come this summer and to reconnect my system to my new WiFi and change out some batteries, and he was very helpful. I'm supposed to get a new Ring doorbell, but I haven't received that. I thought he ordered that. I have outdoor cameras on my porches and around my pool area. I like all of it. And it notifies me with email and text. If I didn't get the alarm turned off, it would call immediately to make sure everything was okay before they called 911 and I'm very pleased with it. I would recommend it if people wanna feel safer especially if they are living by themselves. It would be a good thing. They could push a button and would have help there immediately. I feel very secure living in this area. We're not very populated, but I'm a little bit off the road. If something happened, somebody would come help.

A lot of times we'll forget and the alarm will trip, and we’ll get a text message instantly. The techs provide quality service and they're professional. The lady said my ADT bill would never go up but it did. It was $69 and now, it’s $73. I've been considering paying a one-time fee to have some installers just install all around the house like an independent contractor. You just pay one time and be done with it instead of paying once a month. Also, the wireless doorbell should be included in the package but it's not. You have to pay extra for that. I changed the Wi-Fi router and I don't even remember what the password is. The lady told me that I would need to go into the modem and set the password back to what the old one was or get a ladder, go up there where the cameras are, and hit the reset button on the cameras. I told her I couldn’t do that and she told me that once they come out to do it, that'll be 149.

I have ADT for almost three years now and I'll be talking to them in the beginning of September about renewing. But it depends on what the price is because I have a very basic coverage. On the first three years, you're paying for the equipment and the service. So when I call them in September, if they tell me the price is around the same, then I know I'm not going to continue. If they tell me that it's a lot less a month now because the equipment's paid off, then I'll continue on. Other than that, I paid for this year in advance and we went through it pretty easily. There was no confusion and they've kept perfect track. So if you call them for something, they answer the phone and they answer your questions. I like that.

For my first 20 years with ADT, I was happy with the service. The price worked for me and everybody was super friendly. You get exactly what they promise. The system works every time and it's very prompt and easy to use. There was a time when I accidentally set my alarm off and the police were there in less than three minutes. It was an accident, but I was glad to see the response time. The problem came up when I moved because I found these other people that were willing to provide the same service for cheaper. Then somebody with ADT told me that I've been with them for 20 years and that they were gonna work something out with me. When the technician set up the system at my house, I specifically told him we were gonna be moving in a year. He said, "We'll put it here for now, and when you move, you have to pay $150 for us to come out and re-install it to your other place."
When we moved, I asked the technician, "Before we install this, I wanna make sure how much is this. What am I paying for?" He said, "Since you're an existing customer, you pay $150 and we set up all the things for your alarm and all the sensors of the doors and windows." Then, he scrolled through his tablet and we signed at the bottom. After I signed it, I got a bill later saying I owe $2,000 over five years for the installation fee and the equipment. When I called to make a complaint, they told me I signed the agreement. I'll honor that because I signed it without reading it and that's my fault but that man was deceitful. I'm gonna pay this off and once it's done, I've already found another company. I don't wanna deal with people that will lie to me in my own home.

When we bought the place that had ADT, there were already old systems that were disconnected that were still there. We tried to get ADT to update but they said all they could do was update a couple of items, but not change all that other stuff out and we never could understand why. We told them we'd just put a whole new system in, but they wouldn't do that either. We've just dealt with it and paid for stuff that does not even work. We had them put in the Pulse system too but that doesn't work too. We got cameras there and they say it's all recording through the DVR recorder, but we can't view anything anymore on it. We begged them to lower the fee because so much stuff didn't work and they lowered it a little bit. Since we've got it down, all we have is if somebody opens the door and breaks in, the cops are called.
When you call customer service, you gotta try to get somebody that can speak English. They get to talking so fast in their foreign language that three-fourths of each word is wound up into each other. In the process of talking to them, they trick you to make you say a word and if you say that, that automatically starts you a whole new account, but they won't give you any upgrades. I would not recommend ADT to nobody.

If it's any of the smaller problems that I've had, they've been able to talk me through how to reboot it. They've always been spot on. They're very appropriately reactive and, at times, proactive. Any time I call, they have their security protocol to make sure that nobody can just call up and say or do anything. I've had two burglaries within six days and I saw that the police came out. I'm currently away from my home and I can turn my system on and off from my phone if I have somebody go in the house. ADT does what they say at a price point that's reasonable. Our system went offline a couple different times but no one called. The 24-hour battery also died but no one called. One of our cameras went out but no one said anything. It was disturbing. We were paying ADT to monitor our house and we felt like nothing was being monitored. There was a city power outage at night. That's the most important time. That's when things are gonna happen because everyone knows power is out. But there was no call from ADT. Finally, I called a couple days later and asked what our system was saying. They said, "It now says you guys aren't online." No one thought about calling us. It was disappointing.
I work nights on some of the weekend. My wife and my child are here by themselves, and that was scary to know that on multiple occasions, the system wasn't being watched. I told them I wanted a call if there was something going on with my system. One guy I talked to said, "You gotta tell us that we need to call." This happened the first time but it happened again and never got a call.
Even when the panel got taken off the wall, still nobody called. They called a year and a half later seeing if I wanted to renew my contract. I asked, "What does my panel say?" The rep said, "It shows that it's not connected." I told them it had been that way for over two years. He said, "If it's still on the wall, we can do a panel check." I said, "I just told you, it hasn't been on the wall for over a year and a half." It was frustrating. For almost two years, we paid ADT but had another system in the house. I've had them out multiple times to fix it and every time they come to try to fix it, they charge me but I've never gotten it back to where it was supposed to be. I've paid $4000 which is a lot of money to have them come, make me have the ability to turn on two or three lights and the alarm from the phone but it's never worked. I'm unhappy with it and I've told them so, but they can't seem to figure out why only half of it works at every time I go to look at it. It's very frustrating.
At one point, I had a number appearing on my keypad and it was for weeks. I didn't know what it was and couldn't get it cleared. I called them and they said my fire alarm was not working on one of the floors. They had to figure out which it was. Today my alarm went off when I went out because I took too long to get out the door. I called them and they said they didn't know my alarm went off. I'm concerned because what if it was a real alarm? They should at least know that it went off even if they didn't have to trigger a call to the police. It's unsettling. We don't test it regularly and it should be tested at least once a year by them as part of their service.

There was an alarm system here, but there was no way I could get it set up, so I went with what I knew, which was ADT. I like having the system. All my doors are hooked up to it, even my garage door. Even though the house is locked, if somebody's trying to get into the garage, it'll set the alarm off and it'll tell me that it's the garage door. I've only had the system go off one time, and that was because of a smoke detector. I got a phone call asking if I needed fire assistance.
I arm the system when I leave and disarm it when I get home. I've never had a problem with the system, except with batteries going low on the door monitors. For that, I’d call ADT and ask them what type of battery I need to put into it. I very rarely interact with the agents, but the last time I called, I didn't have any trouble getting in contact with a representative.

Their agents have been great on the phone and they would always get us scheduled with a service call.
But lots of times, we just don't have cameras because we don't have time to mess with this. So we're paying for a service that we're not getting. And when we call, our system is set up through some Hik-Connect, which is weird. We want it all to be on ADT and we want it to be on our Pulse. We also want to be able to see the cameras, but we can't. So we have this whole separate system that’s Hik’s, and it's kind of annoying. And we're considering pulling our service and going to another company. I would also tell my friends to go with actual ADT, not an authorized dealer, because then they have you using third party stuff.

Plus, the way the service was described in terms of installation and support sounded good to me. I didn't wanna get involved in the installation myself because it seemed to me to be something people want to be done right the first time.
We're satisfied with our initial package. It's adequate for our needs, and so far, so good. The only trouble we've had was from the last service, the telephone call earlier this week, because the panel lost its WiFi connection and had to be rebooted. It took a while for me to troubleshoot it myself and that was not successful. I called the ADT service number and, once I got connected to somebody, it only took a few minutes to get that taken care of.

I've had ADT for years, and I've been happy with their service. I haven't had that many interactions with their reps, but the ones that I've had have been positive. ADT is a good company, and the system I have is simple. There are times where we haven't gotten signals from their system tested and may not be working right, but it's always working. I also wouldn't have the system if I didn't feel secure.

I got ADT ‘cause I moved to a brand new place, and I didn't know the neighborhood. The system is one of the things right there where I don't know so much. It's been a little crazy. The batteries trip a lot, and the customer service when I call to get help, I sometimes get bounced around everywhere. It's a little annoying. They also tell me that there are certain things they can't do or there are certain things that I didn't pay for when I already did. I got this thing called the battery replacement all the time, and when the main console needed to get switched off for the battery, they made me pay $40 for it. Overall, my experience has not been the greatest, but it's not the worst. On certain times and with certain things, they're really good.

I know ADT is a quality company and they were available in the right price range so I told them to come out and install their system. I'm not happy with ADT at all. The installers let my dog out of the backyard and it went to my neighbor's house whom we have terrible relationship with. He called the police and next thing I know, the police are on my sidewalk, saying, “Your dog is down at your neighbor's house.” The installers also took a large slate rock from my rock garden, threw it down over the wall, and used it to stabilize their ladder and it's still there.
Also, one of the cameras has been going out ever since they installed it. I will unplug it and plug it back up into the back of the box. It'll stay on for three hours, and then it'll go out again. They're scheduled to come back and they're gonna charge me $59 every time they have to come out. I'm under a six-year contract and the cameras are not gonna last six years, so I'm gonna be having to pay $59 every time they come out and replace a camera. I do not like ADT at all and I would never ever use them again.

I was gonna have it put in my name because I figured later on down the road, if something should happen, they'd wonder why it was still in her name and she's deceased. When the guy came to make sure the system was working okay, he said everything that I had was outdated. So, he had to update everything, which was a whole lot more than I was anticipating having to pay. So that put me in a crunch there, but nothing's for free these days. When we first got our home, I knew that we needed to get security and we went with ADT. I can access the system through my phone. So that is a big help, especially if we forget to do something and we've left the house already. I like that as well as the door chime. I called customer service once to get a certificate and another time to get estimates on possibly adding more equipment. And both times, the reps were very knowledgeable and were able to give me a lot of information. ADT is a great company to go with and I feel safe with it. I've been with them for two years and the experience has been good so far. However, the price has gone up. So I am looking to see about switching to someone local once our contract ends. ADT has to reevaluate that part. But if it wasn't for that, then I'd be staying.

The sad part is that ADT wants me to pay for the same services I already paid for. If the Tech had properly addressed issues a few months ago, my system should not have the same faults today. While the in-home ADT SECURITY SYSTEM is great addition, unfortunately contacting/speaking with an ADT REP to schedule an appointment is horrifying. No other word describes the experience; not only long hold time to get live person online, once you reach the REP & attempt to request an in-home appointment (I'm 85 & not able to climb a ladder to change batteries or smoke detector batteries, not able to physically manage a lot of alarm components so always request an in-home appointment).
The REP then insists on having you stand at the wall-mounted alarm panel & enter/reenter/enter/renter codes/bypass/look at zones, etc. When all you want is an appointment. Spent 25 min on phone 7/16/2024 in attempt to schedule appt; finally the REP scheduled; when a customer requests in-home appointment, it should be scheduled. No questions ask. I'm paying for their service. The TECHS that visit are most always courteous, professional & competent & answer questions/demonstrate how too, etc. Appreciate the TECHS, but NOT the Call center process or the REPS.

When we first got the ADT system, we had trouble with it because the first installer put the cameras where he thought they should go and he put them at an odd angle. So, we couldn't really tell. Plus, the quality of the pictures from the cameras were not that great. So, we complained about that with ADT. They came up, made some adjustments, and didn't do much with that. We complained again because we couldn't see who was coming to the door and when we got somebody up here, we had to pay for it because it wasn't within the timeframe of when we bought it. And we didn't know that. We also didn't think that it should make any difference because they were the ones that did it wrong in the first place and we let them know once before.
So, we had a second person do some strange adjustments. He didn't know a lot about wiring because he strung a wire through the garage underneath the bicycle rack, which had bikes on it, and over the back door to the garage, and outside, then down in front of the back door. So, we didn't like that either. We called ADT again and they finally sent somebody who really knew what he was doing. He took the whole thing out and started over. Now, we got beautiful angles and good picture quality. And we could see everything we needed to see. We had to pay for it though and we weren't very happy about paying twice, but we got what we wanted. I’d tell my friends that I had problems with ADT in the beginning. There were too many installers involved with it and some of them were obviously educated than others were. I would also tell them to really keep close track of that, take notes, if necessary, and ask who and when and why.

Basically, ADT sold me a piece of junk for thousands of dollars. The system problems are endless. I incurred several thousand dollars of fines from my local municipality due to false alarms while I was abroad. ADT called the police and never informed me that it was doing so or had done so. The result was compounding fines. Recently, when a smoke alarm went off, there was no way to disarm the alarm from the panel. I tried to call them so that they would not call the fire department, resulting in yet more fines, the robot menu system asked if my alarm was going off. When I responded yes, it put me on hold! The only reason the fire department was not in fact called is because the smoke alarm event never registered with them, It just goes on and on. I have begun to shop for an alternative and cannot wait to get rid of this nuisance.

Several women I know, including myself, have fallen victim to their misleading practices. ADT representatives tricked us into signing contracts that we didn't fully understand. When we attempted to cancel these contracts, we were hit with exorbitant cancellation fees.
It's clear that ADT exploits their customers by making the terms and conditions of their contracts intentionally confusing. If you're considering using their services, please be extremely cautious. Make sure to scrutinize every detail of the contract to avoid the same fate. Customer service was unhelpful and unsympathetic, adding to the frustration. This experience has left me feeling taken advantage of and deeply dissatisfied. In summary: ADT Security Services has proven to be untrustworthy and exploitative. If you choose to use their services, proceed with extreme caution and a thorough understanding of the contract's terms.

Continuously disappointed in this company. After trying to cancel my service I was told not to cancel until the first of the next month because it will lower my payout charge but I was worried about them taking another months payment that I’m not using. I was reassured that wouldn’t happen and that the next charge on my card will not be taken or that a credit could be given because I was a long-time dedicated customer.
I trusted what the rep said and decided to wait to cancel my account but my monthly payment was taken by them two days later. Called again the following day and was told that the original rep who gave me this information will call me back in 30 minutes since she was busy on another call at the moment. She never did call me back. Called again after the weekend and now this rep was very warm and nice at the beginning.
Once I told her I was switching with another company she got a bit salty and rude. When I expressed my frustration about my payment being taken and now owning more than I would have if the first rep just let me cancel the original day I called, she said she couldn’t do anything about it and told me I can just cancel now. After I finally decided to just take the hit and lose money the company doesn’t deserve I let her cancel the account.
She followed up with a sarcastic tone of wishing me well and thanking me for being a part of the company and did a cold and sudden hang up on me without letting me get a word in or asking if I had questions or needed anything else. I did still have questions and I was taken by surprise at her rude behavior at the end of the call. I had to call right back once again to reassure everything was done correctly and get some unanswered questions answered. Very rude and people like them make me so glad I cancelled and am moving forward with a different company.

We moved into this house about two and a half years ago, and it had ADT in it. And where we came from, we had a different company which we were satisfied with but we figured since it already had ADT and the monthly payments look similar, we'd go with ADT. They charge us $1,500 for installation, and they installed two keypads. I can't wait to pay that off and use my three-year contract to get the heck out of there and then drop them like a hot potato. We already had a camera here, so we went with all the trouble we've had with that.
Plus, one of the keypads the other day had blanked out. They wanted to send someone out here to put something so one keypad can communicate with the other keypad, and they were gonna charge us $300 for that. I don't know why because that keypad is right behind the wall with the internet. It worked for two and a half years and now all of a sudden, it goes off and on. And then they were gonna charge me for the little magnetic things on the front door. They were gonna charge me $80 for someone to come out and switch one of those because it wasn't working. So, I said, "I'm not gonna do that. Send me one and I'll change it." So with a screwdriver, I changed the thing and saved 80 bucks. I would never ever deal with ADT again.
As far as billing goes, I had it on my debit card. When I got a new debit card, the data changed. It took about 10 phone calls with the billing department to do away with the late fees and every other thing and redo it again. It's the worst. Just today, I went to my bank and did a payment from my bank rather than using my debit card. That's another thing. Today, I got a bill for 70 something odd dollars. I asked, "$70, what's that for?" They said, "Well, you missed the last three payments on this other one." I said, "I missed them? How did I miss it because my credit card changed?" It was unbelievable.
Once my $1,500 is paid off, it will be goodbye. They want me to leave the stuff on the curb for them to come pick up. They can come and get it. I already called the previous company I was with and said, "Do you charge for installation?" They said, "No, we don't." As a matter of fact, they had given me a discount for being a retired police lieutenant. I should have went with them when we moved up here. Another thing that happened was I shut the alarm off one morning and I went out to the garage. The garage is hooked up to the same system. I got some milk out of the refrigerator in the garage. I came back inside, didn't hear any noise and the next thing I know, I got a ring at the front door and there were two policemen standing there. They said, "Your alarm went off." I said, "It went off? I shut it off when I woke up."
I'm dissatisfied with them. I had to call about 10 different times when my expiration date went off on my debit card. And they kept messing it up, changing this, and charged me late fees after I spoke to them. They didn't notify me for a month or two. Then they said, "You're two months behind on your payments." I said, "What? Why didn't you call me? Why didn't you notify me I was late or the payment didn't go through?" They waited two months and added late fees. I finally talked to someone and got the late fees taken away and I paid the whole thing. And then I got another bill for the same amount that I just paid. So, I don't know if one hand knows what the other hand is doing.
As far as the monitoring fee, it's right up there with everyone else. When we hadn't moved in to the house yet, and the guy came to look at the system and everything else, I said, "Well, we have to leave. Just lock the door when you leave." If he had said, "Oh, by the way, there's gonna be a charge for this." I have no idea what he did but we got charged $1,500 for a house that had ADT. He changed a couple of the door sensors from white to brown because it was a brown door. He did two of those on two front doors. That was it.

So, when we replaced the batteries, it didn't come back on. I called ADT and the rep told me to replace the battery and everything should be fine. So, we replaced the battery but that didn't work. So I called her and we did five different things. Then she asked what the expiration date was on it. It expired two months ago when the guy put it back in the first time when it broke off the wall. Then I was told I have to pay $100 to get a new one and I'm just not willing to do that again when it wasn't my fault that anything happened to it.
The second alarm that we had for the carbon monoxide was gonna expire too so the guy told me that when I call, I should get both of them replaced. I asked why he couldn’t just replace them right then when he knew they were expired and he said he only had expired ones in his truck. So, he was putting up an expired one and he thought that was okay for me. ADT is good when you first start. After that, the customer service is lousy.
