I've had a frustrating experience with ADT Home Security. About a month ago, the system stopped working. It wouldn't connect to the internet and we can't use features like the doorbell camera, which is something we've been paying for. When we contacted ADT, they wanted to charge us $160 to send someone to fix the issue, even though the problem seems to be with their equipment.
We chose ADT because they were the first company we contacted, but unfortunately, the service has been unsatisfactory since we began with them. The customer service has been lacking, and we're quite dissatisfied overall. We've used the phone app and website to interact with the system and to submit payments, which was an acceptable experience, but the overarching issue with the system connectivity remains unresolved.

I was looking through magazines and at the TV commercials, then I went on the internet. We made a decision to talk with ADT and liked everything they said and the company, so we went with them. The system has been excellent and I like the ease of operating it. The price is getting kinda high, but I feel very safe having the system. I've forgotten to shut it off on occasion and I get back in in time, but one time I didn't get back in time. They notified the police and two squads came over to my house really fast.
When the lens on my camera in the garage was all messed up from something, I called ADT and let them know that it was not operating correctly. Within two days, a service tech came and he was very personable and professional. He replaced it at no charge. He said there was no charge on it. Everything was so smooth and they didn't try to say anything negative. Everything was positively done. It was fantastic.

As a customer of ADT since 2020, I have faced ongoing issues, particularly with one of their cameras that has been malfunctioning for over a year. Despite repeatedly contacting ADT for assistance, the response has been lackluster, often instructing us to troubleshoot the problem ourselves without offering further help or sending a technician.
Our overall experience with ADT has been quite negative, and we're deeply dissatisfied with their customer service. They have consistently failed to address our concerns or provide adequate support, which has led us to consider switching to another provider. Initially, the sales experience was fine and everything was good, but any time we've had trouble and called, it's been a struggle. So we don't even call anymore. We're tired of it.
Regarding the star ratings, I would rate ADT as follows:
- Overall satisfaction: 2 stars- Pricing: Initially, I would have rated it a 4, but due to increases over the years, it now stands at 3 stars.
- Customer service: 1 star

I've had ADT too long and it's overpriced for nothing. The system works, but it ain't good. The batteries don't last and if I have somebody come out, I'm charged. I gotta do everything. I gotta stand out in the cold and take it apart. ADT is garbage, and I'd rather go back Vivint or get Ring. I have security, but I'm done with ADT. As a matter of fact, I already have Ring. The only reason why I still have ADT up is because I'm under a contract. I cannot wait for 2025 to come so I can just get rid of it.

I was very happy with Ackerman and their service, but when I was told that ADT bought them, and given no choice, I was not happy. It started problems and it kept on going. In 2.5 years, I never armed the system one time, because it was such a pain and I couldn't get it to work correctly. Their service technicians don't know what they're doing. They came out to my house 10 times and still weren't able to get the camera doorbell working. The only thing that worked out of all of my equipment was the back door camera, and even then, it was spotty.
I hate ADT and I was so glad to get rid of them. I paid for it for 2.5 years, and it never worked the way it was supposed to. It was a terrible experience. Plus, when I migrated, I was told that I would be able to get all of the equipment for ADT at no cost, and then they billed me $400 for all of the equipment. I disputed it because I didn't agree to it, and I wouldn't have agreed to it, but I ended up losing the dispute and having to pay it anyway. I will not use ADT for anything in the future. They're a horrible company.

I've had several different security systems in the past 20 years and I'm with ADT now. It's quite pricey, but people are gonna have to pay for what they get. ADT is the best. My system works as it should and if I have an alarm, I hear from somebody.

With ADT, you don't get to speak to a sales representative. Everything is all push button. Everything's a prompt. It's a pain in the neck. I've had this alarm system for years and anything I need, I have to call, they mail it, and I have to install. Their technicians on the other end are really not so helpful. It's up for me to figure it out myself. Also, there were many times that my alarm has gone off and I didn't get a call. I almost had a fire in my house and they never called or followed up with that. There was nothing dispatched, and I do have fire and police on my alarm. So, I'm very disappointed with that.

I like being able to use ADT on the app. The company has really great customer service. They have super good people. I was trying to change the password, swapping it over to mine, from where my sister lives in the house prior to me. They were super helpful. Any questions I had, they answered immediately. ADT is the only way to go.

When the ADT sales person came by to introduce their system, the experience was good and helpful. The installation was very prompt, very quick, and informative. They told me what they were doing and how they were placing things. I'm satisfied with my service package. I have accidentally set it off because I forget to turn it off sometimes, which is frustrating. Very quickly after I open a door and have forgotten, I go back and set it off, and nobody contacts me. Overall, I'm not really sure that I need to be spending the money on ADT. I have mixed feelings about whether I should be doing it or not, so I don't know that I'd highly recommend it to somebody. I'm undecided about the value.

I hate ADT. Their service is very bad. It wasn't as bad at the beginning, but it didn't take long for them to show their color. The equipment is not good. They do not come out and assist when needed. My cameras work when they want to, and don't when they don't. Every time they come out, they wanna charge me to come out. Also, the bill is too high. I've been with them for five years only because of the contract. If I didn't have a contract, I wouldn't be with them.

I've been with ADT a long time. Customer service was fine up until recently. I need a battery. I am a senior citizen, and I spoke with someone and they said that I have to go buy a battery and put it in. I took the frame off, and it was just confusing for me. So, I asked them to have someone come out. They said, "Well, that's gonna be a whole lot of money." They asked if I could just get somebody like a neighbor. I said, "No. I don't deal with my neighbors and I don't have a lot of friends.”
I paid for the services and they said I could stand by the phone and they'll tell me what to do, and that's not working for me. I can barely see, and it's a special battery you have to get. I was very disappointed. Now, the battery is low, and it makes a lot of noises. I'm disappointed with the whole thing.

ADT has been good. I love the features and it serves its purpose. I came in with a special. The gentleman was very knowledgeable and told me every step he did when he installed in my home. Sometimes the frequency of the military base feeds itself into our area. I'm sure that most of my neighbors had the same problem at one point. But I have to knock on wood. It has been good for the last six months. I am an IT person and technology is not perfect, but it's so close. And depending on your area, it has a lot to do with how you pick up your services.
One morning at 2:00, the system beeped and I couldn't reset it. With the frequencies of my internet and electronic items that work in my house like the ADT system, they don't connect together. That meant I had to call into the 24-hour services. ADT was able to reset it from their end. I could reset it from my end, but they have a bit more power on their end. They shut the system down and came back up and I didn't have any problems. I called Verizon the next day and increased the gigabytes within my house because I work from home. Since I increased my gigabytes here, I've had no problem.
I love ADT's app. I could come in, have an arm full of groceries or bags, settle down and lock my door. I would lay down and think to myself, "Did I put my alarm on?" I didn't wanna go back downstairs. I picked up my phone, got into my app, and it would show that it was locked. Also, I could get in my vehicle, pull up my app, and lock my door from my app. If I had to go in the office and I got my shoulder bag, I could get in my car, start up my vehicle and sit in there and tap that app that says lock. It says lock and unlock, and I could do stay as far as alarm. It would mention alarm on. When I pull up in front of my house, I could take the alarm off my house. I have to use the key for the storm door, but I don't have to put my password in to come into the house. I love that feature with ADT.

We had Vivint at our old house, and when we moved to the new house, my wife wanted to try something different and we went with ADT. ADT is absolute garbage compared to Vivint. When they first came to install, everything seemed okay. They could never get our doorbell camera working properly. It was always staticky or it wasn't working at all. They had come multiple times. By the time the first installer left, I was already annoyed with them because they couldn't get it working properly. By the time the third technician came by to try to get it working, I was already good and pissed, and tried to cancel it.
I was lied to a couple of times. I was given the runaround, given different phone numbers, different people to talk to, and told straight up that they would be sending a technician to uninstall the system and credit me. This was years ago, but there was a lot of back and forth, and then I was told that cancellation wasn't even an option after 48 hours or something after signing the contract. I had a supposed manager come out to look at the system, and he straight up told me to my face that they were gonna cancel everything. I had another guy come out saying they're not able to cancel. There must have been at least 20 phone calls.
Finally, some technician came out and the issue with the doorbell camera was just that there was a resistor in there from the previous owner’s security system. He took that out, and everything started working properly. But with all the lies and stuff that I was told, I made it clear to them that I would never ever endorse their product to anyone. I have done exactly that where anyone in the neighborhood asking about security systems, I always refer them to Vivint. Their hardware is better. The service is better. We had two false alarms from a glass break detector that wasn't even set off by breaking glass. Nobody called, so it's like nobody's even listening or monitoring. It's terrible hardware. It's terrible service. ADT has garbage installers. I'm just counting down the days until I'm done with my contract and I can go back to Vivint.

Every time I bump the sensors with our mini blinds, they go off nonstop. I called ADT and got irate with them because it was annoying having to run from one end of the house. They came and moved it. In the beginning, they put one out in our garage, which didn't make much sense because we don't sleep there. They came and also moved that one. But it took a while. I had to be home when they did it, which was also annoying.
My husband had to change the batteries in the smoke detectors last night. Every time he tried to get it in the spot, he would have to run upstairs, hit the code, run back downstairs, adjust it, back up, back down. That's a pain in the butt. And ever since we bought it, we couldn't arm it like we were gone. Nobody knows why. I just keep paying it and dealing with it. It doesn't cover all our windows. There are six that are wide open that nothing would happen if someone broke in. When I set it up, ADT wanted me to pay more. But when we first did it, we thought they covered every window.

Seven years ago, ADT contacted me and I had them come over and give me an estimate. I ended up going with them. Back then, customer service was really good. I’ve had seven good experiences, and one really bad one. The service package is good. I'm in the process of moving right now. I just sold my home about two weeks ago, and then I close on the new one I'm getting here in the next couple weeks. So, there was a lag in service here for about a month. I'll have a representative come out from ADT after I move into the new place to go over what I need.
I'd been a customer with ADT for about seven years. The latest place was for four years soli, and everything got hooked up right when I moved in. But in that time, I had moved out for a brief period of time and rented my house out and just left the system in there for my renters, and they were using it. I had to call ADT and give them access to make changes if they needed to and this and that. Then whenever I moved back into that house, I called them back and removed them off the service. I guess they signed me up for a new contract in that time.
I knew that I didn't have a house yet that I was moving into as mine sold here recently, and so I was like, “Well, I just wanna cancel. And then whenever I do find a house, I'm gonna start service back up and this and that.” Then they proceeded to tell me, “Oh, well, you still got a year and a half left on your contract.” I was like, “That's impossible. I've had the service at that address for over four years now.” He said. “Oh, well, I'm looking at it right now. I'd be more than happy to send you a copy of it.” He was completely talking down to me, and that was the really bad experience I had with them. My experience has been 90% good and 10% bad. It was great service, good equipment, and they've been very responsive if an alarm went off. So, I've had, overall, a really good experience with ADT.

I feel safer with ADT on. I can get my alarm to go off. But a bit later, it would start doing it again. I'm wondering if I need a new battery. I gotta pull the whole thing out of the wall. I don't feel like doing all that. ADT will charge me and I have to pay for a new battery. But I will have to figure it out. It said it was the Wi-Fi. We reconnected the Wi-Fi and it stopped. It started doing it again an hour later.

The only thing is I'm not real computer savvy, so there are a lot there that I could do that I don't know, and it's a little beyond what I would wanna deal with. I have a contract for five years and it's coming up, but I really appreciate it. I feel more comfortable here. Also, where the price is at now, it’s affordable.

ADT has been very professional and knowledgeable. The installations were great. The system does everything we want it to. Everything was great.

I haven't been pleased with ADT. I became a customer five years ago, but my dislike happened where when I called in, the customer service was not great. I didn't like having to be routed from person to person before getting my issue resolved. I had to move. So, I did a transfer of service, which posed a problem for me because a couple of months later, I saw where 1000 and something dollars was deducted from my account. ADT had deducted the amount of the alarm system because said I did a cancellation. "Never did I do a cancellation of service because you can see that you're still taking a monthly payment from me. I still have a service with you all." I had to fight to get my money back with the service that was never canceled. It was just a transfer of service.
I wasn't happy with how the technician that came over did the installation versus I was very pleased with the original installation when I first became an ADT customer. I've been working with them. My contract is due to end in 2025 and I am planning on ending my services with ADT due to me being unhappy. On top of my monthly fee, I saw an $8 and some change fee that is coming out. It's a separate deduction. It's ludicrous because I did a transfer of service and I learned they are still charging me for equipment I now have at the new place where I reside. I called in to ask, "What do I do with the equipment that has been installed?" I would have taken that equipment with me. I was told to, "Leave it because we'll set up new service and install new equipment." That was very nice. I didn't have to worry about detaching anything. But I'm charged for new equipment. That would be the $8 and change.

I've had ADT for 50 years. I had them in a previous house. Because I like their service, I put them in the new house 30 years ago, and I've been here for 30 years and had no problems. There was a couple of false alarms that were dealt with appropriately. But it was my fault mostly. Up until recently, my experience has been excellent. They decided that they wanted to upgrade me because the phone company is abandoning their cable plan. They told me I had to sign a 12-page contract in order to proceed, and they wouldn't even tell me if they could offer the service until I signed the contract, and I refused. The contract was unacceptable. It told me all about the things that they were gonna do and that I couldn't do. They didn't tell me anything about what they were gonna do for me.
It was 50 years of excellence, and very recently, it's been abominable. I am now shopping for an alternative, and that's hard to find, because they've been a wonderful company and service. Their sales operation, their marketing operation, and their contract writing operation are the pits. Everything else they do seems to be outstanding. I got my money's worth.

My ADT experience is not always consistent. Some of the people I've talked to don't know the answer. They're reading. They're looking things up. I'm impatient, but they're reading stuff or emailing somebody to see how to help me. That's been frustrating. Not all of them are like that. Not all of the time it happens. I don't have to call them very often, but I dread it. I don't know if they're calling from their homes. I've had people who were hard to understand. They speak English, but it's harder for me to understand them. So, the service is a little bit inconsistent. I wanna know that they know what they're talking about. I need that assurance that they're gonna be able to tell me what's wrong or what to do, and I don't always feel that at all with them.
The system is working properly except that the batteries are going low, and it's hard to get the front off. I didn't realize they expect their customers to fix things. It's not like people can't, but it's hard. I called one time and the woman did not know anything about this product. She was reading online about what to tell me, and I couldn't get the front off of one of the sensors to put a new battery in. So, she said I’d get a service call, which we have to pay for. But she said it wouldn't be charged. It was quite an ordeal. I'm not sure if it was ever fixed. I haven't even looked at my bill, but I got charged for it. There was no way we could do it over the phone. I couldn’t get the front off. The guy that came said it would be really hard to have gotten that off.
The products aren't that easy to do myself, especially when some people may be better than me. I use hardly any of the features. I just set it at night and turn it off in the morning. I know there are lots of stuff it'll do. The other thing I'm disappointed about is the cost of it is raised tremendously since I started. It's at least $20 more a month. That's a lot. So, I thought about looking into other ones. I just have to start all over with somebody, but there's certain issues that I do have concerns about.

I selected ADT because there was an offer on the doorbell surveillance. It was free installation and a $100 gift card, which I never received. The tech came out and installed the Nest. They changed the door panel. It caused some issues with other items I had at home. I have a surround sound stereo player. When the tech connected the new power source, he disconnected the radio. And I had to pay $120 to have somebody come out and rewire it. I thought it broke. I had to go through ordering a new one and sending it back to them. I called an electrician and he told me what the issue was. It was just the wiring wasn't connected properly. I wasn't aware that it was an issue until a couple of weeks after and I noticed it would not come on. I experienced it being knocked offline when there is an issue with Wi-Fi. It was not a serious issue because I just have to go in and re-enter my password.
I've considered going back to my previous provider, citing the issues and the difficulty I have reaching someone in support. The last time it happened, I was able to get the matter resolved. But it took four days for someone to call me. I would get a link to self-diagnose the issue. Not being technically savvy, I wasn't pleased. The fourth time attempting to arrange a call to have somebody walk me through the process, we were able to resolve the issue. On two instances, it was an hour process because I would be given a ticket number and told I would be called back. When I called back, I would still wait. It was lengthy and I was not pleased.

I got ADT in 2020. It works. It beeps when I tell my kids to make sure to be in the house. I feel safe because it's there. When I use my phone, I can see it right away. I have other ones where I have to wait, and sometimes they would say, "Signal is weak." ADT was fast. I have four minor kids and we use it all the time and I'm happy with it until one day when my son said, "When I went back to the house, the alarm went off." I turned it off on my phone but it was too late because the cops went there. I told the cops, "It was just us." But they charged me $175 because it wasn't registered. I was pissed because all of that $175 on top of paying $100. I was not happy about it. I just wanted it when we're sleeping because it's just me and my boys.
Every time my kids forgot and it was too late for me to turn off, I could still turn off. It would turn red and no cops would come. That was the first time that the cops came. So, I have no idea what happened. I was alarmed that the cops came. They called me first and went to the house when I was already on my way to the school and I already told them that it was nothing, it was just me and the boys, and they still went and emailed me a $175 charge. I live by myself and am isolated and my daughter insisted that I have security. ADT is a big name and it starts with an A. When you start looking for security companies, they are the first one that pops up on the list. So, I gave them a try. I'm not very mechanical and all I do is hit a button and it works. And if it doesn't work, all I need to do is call ADT to have them look at it. ADT has worked perfectly. So, I've stayed with it. I use the system regularly when I leave and at night. The smoke detector fell from the place the service rep put it. I noticed it and was changing it out. And when I started messing with it, it went off. ADT called and checked to see if everything was okay. They have given good service.
ADT techs come in, do their job, do it well and leave. If you have no problems with it, the company will be glad to come back to service it. The equipment works well. If anything happens, ADT will notify you immediately. I've never had a problem since I've been out here, which is the main thing. It’d cost a bunch to have employees that do their job so, you can't complain about the price. I would highly recommend ADT. I've never used it but I know it's here if I need it.

I had ADT in Maryland and it was easier than the other systems. It was the one I knew so that's what I got here but I got rid of them. The batteries constantly die and the system isn't very user-friendly for fixing. I run my own business and I don't have time to wait for a technician to come out. I would give them eight hours and they would be here at the eighth hour. The installation was fine but when you have to have service, it sucks. I went for a long time not even arming the system because everything said all the sensors were dead and I didn't have time to wait for somebody to come out and put new batteries in all the sensors. And then being told that I have to pay for the batteries. I get the battery and it's not the right battery, or it doesn't last very long.
My house is already hardwired with Brinks and they transferred it to an ADT system. So they only had to add a few sensors. The doorbell was the first thing to go and I said I would just put up a Ring. Then, I added another camera. I was gonna do it for something else because they complained about going up in the attic even though that's what they get paid to do. So, it was just easier to add little bits here and there of another system. It got to the point where I was using more of the other system than I was ADT. They had good features but not the greatest. I wanted the system to work because it's the only system for hardwiring. But now, I have a hardwired system that I can't even use.

A terrible experience with ADT. They don’t even use their own equipment—they rely on Google devices, which you can purchase yourself without the added upcharges or being locked into a contract. Their customer service is awful. One of our door sensors didn’t work, and despite spending months going back and forth with customer service, they repeatedly promised to send a replacement but never did. On top of that, the system frequently fails, and you can’t reliably download recorded videos from your home. We’re switching to a provider that offers more professionalism and better service.

We started using ADT's service three years ago. They're one of the ones that have been around the longest and our insurance also recommended them. However, the initial phone call was very uninformative. The sales rep needed some training. But the tech that came out was very informative. He knew what he was doing and went through how to set it up. He put our codes in with us and was very thorough. The system does fine. When the alarms went off, they asked us our security codes which we gave. It was a very smooth process. The thing we're aggravated with is not being able to get an itemized list of the costs mailed to us. We've requested it multiple times, but it still never appeared.

The service package that I got from ADT is excellent in terms of the ability to use the service, the information, and the alarms we get from the system. But their corporate customer service is terrible. When I call an 800 number, their ability to respond to it is not good at all. I had some problem that I couldn't figure out which turned out to be in a battery in one of my sensors. I called their 800 number and talked to the people at corporate three times. I probably spent an hour and a half on the phone with them. Then I finally asked them to provide me with a technician here in Houston that I could talk to. They told me that wouldn't do any good, that there wasn't anyone in Houston, and that there wasn't really a service number in Houston that I could talk to. It's a national company and I know they have people here in Houston, but they wouldn't give me a number that I could call to talk to a technician.
So, I wound up doing all these 800 numbers and eventually, they scheduled a technician to come out and look at my problem. When the technician got here, he was superb and efficient. He communicated my problem and fixed it very quickly. Then he gave me his phone number here in Houston so that I can call if and when I have a problem. He was very helpful and he was able to restore or service almost immediately.

The ADT rep who came out told me about the company and showed me what the system looked like on the phone. He gave me the price and told me of how clear it would be. But I didn't get the system right then, and the price went up between the time that we talked and the time that I got it. But the installation was good. The guy who came out knew what he was doing and installed the system for me.
They told me the wall mount that I had was the best that was out at the time. About a year later, they called me back and told me that I needed to go with the other one. They didn't try to fix the one that I had. I had to go with a larger one this time. I didn't see not much difference in it but I had to pay $100, which was a big difference. The price that I started out with was good, but it went up.
I was having all kinds of trouble with my system. I was having trouble with the clearness of the camera and with it not taking pictures at night. I was also having trouble where I had to reboot it. I've had several false alarms but they did not contact me. They contacted my son instead of me. For the doorbell monitor, I needed the whole thing but they told me that they didn't have anybody to come out. They would send it to me and I could put it on. But I'm not qualified to put it on. Also, they only sent the bracket. They didn't send the doorbell Ring itself. I kept calling them back and they finally sent me the doorbell Ring. Now, I ended up with the bracket and the doorbell Ring. In fact, I got an extra bracket and a doorbell Ring to go with it.
They didn't explain it to me about the charging process for the doorbell. I thought I could charge it up with the computer, but they finally told me I could charge it up with my wall socket. They also didn't tell me that periodically, I have to charge it. Their customer service is very bad. I kept calling ADT about different problems I was having, but they kept referring me to different people who were telling me they didn't handle my issue. They should've referred me to the right people from the beginning. I monitor the system with the phone and with the computer. But when I asked them about a monitor, they wouldn't talk to me about it. They kept talking around it but I know there are monitors because I've seen people that got ADT that got monitors. But right now, everything is working perfectly.

We have them for at least 20 years and recently, the panel had to be updated. It was to keep the system more current and working better, and they didn't charge me for that.
ADT is great. When I use their online service, it takes me right to my status on my system. So I don't really have to worry about how to find something or forget what I was supposed to do. There was even a point wherein the service person was rushing through it at the last minute and was wanting me to insert my security code while he was standing there staring at me. I said, "No." I reported all this when it happened. Other than that, the system has been okay. I only use it to lock when I go out of town, and I haven't been able to locate some things. For starters, my back camera has not worked for over a year and they're trying to charge me $200 to get somebody to come out to look it. They also said that if their tech comes out and see that it hasn't been working for so long, then they may give me a credit to my bill, which is ridiculous. If I'm paying them every single month on time, why do I have to pay for them to get somebody to come out to fix my back camera when it wasn't my fault that the camera stopped working? I've been here for a year and a half and my camera only worked for six months.
Aside from that, I was told that I'm on a contract, which I was not aware of when I re-signed it. I was told that it was a month-to-month thing and I can cancel it whenever I feel like. The ADT system is as good as any other system. It's a little bit more expensive than going with a private company and their immediate tech support is not so great. But once you get to the second level, it's much better. Recently, I had a problem trying to change the passcode and the first time I called, somebody was trying to help me for an hour and a half, and finally, just gave up and set me up with a tech appointment. They gave me some suggestions about places that we agreed that I might not need a window sensor on and I was very satisfied with the package that I ended up with. Then we set up a date for the installation and they did it on that day. Any time I've had a false alarm and I get it off fast enough, they don't call me. But if I don't get it off right away, they do and their customer service is very good. When I didn't know how to change something, I called them and they were been very helpful with that. I would recommend them.

The guy that came out told me that Brinks took over ADT, and that they were merging, becoming one company. It was like a whirlwind. He caught me off guard. He absolutely lied to me. It took me about three weeks to figure it out. I noticed that my neighbor down the street still had his ADT sign up in his yard. I told him what happened to me and he said he didn't hear anything about that. So I called ADT and they told me they didn't have any idea what this guy was talking about. So I cancelled with Brinks, which cost me over $2,000. In that three-week period, I called ADT to tell them that I had changed and somebody was supposed to come out and pick up the equipment. But they never did.
After three weeks or so, I pitched it and didn't think anything about it. So now, I'm back with ADT. I'm paying double because I'm having to buy my equipment over again, and that makes me mad. But at least I'm not with Brinks anymore because that salesperson lied. I've got about another year and a half of paying this double rate and then I'll have my new equipment paid for and it'll drop down to whatever the normal rate is.
The other night, I noticed the battery of my granddaughter's smoke alarm was down. So I changed the battery. But I came in the living room where my ADT fire alarm is, I pushed the button, and set off all kinds of alarms. ADT called me to ask me if I was all right and if there was a fire. It was loud for a little bit, but we got it to calm down. But everything was fine. Everybody was courteous. They told me how to turn the thing off. They said, the next time I check it, I can call them first so they can monitor the system and this wouldn't happen. It was brief. Everybody was cordial. I'm satisfied with ADT.

They've had to come out a couple of times to fix the sensors that weren't working. The technicians didn't know what they were doing. It took four visits to get it fixed. It's a hassle to get anything fixed. Even when installing the system, they're not very knowledgeable about the product. It's also confusing when you buy from them because there are various vendors that sell ADT equipment. It's confusing when you pick one. They don't have all of the necessary sensors and detectors that the other ones do. It wasn't clear to me when I first signed up.

But it would malfunction and it was cumbersome to get it done. I have a local guy that did my internet and they have an alarm service. They also did monitoring and they took care of all my needs. I like to do business locally. My experience with ADT wasn't terrible. There are just better options out there. Alarm.com, for one, does a better job. It feels more personal, while ADT feels very corporate. I would get calls sometimes and text messages. There was a lot of red tape you had to go through to get things done or get a response. My experience with ADT has been great. I like where I can access the system anywhere. We recently had an interaction with a salesperson in the Flint, Michigan office, and we're thinking about adding some cameras. When they installed it, they were polite, respectful and informative. The only thing we did have a problem early on is they don't call. We had Ace for 40 years and they would call right away if the burglar alarm went off. ADT doesn't do that and we don't like that aspect of it. My husband accidentally triggered it, but he had a hard time trying to stop i. It was early on and he wasn't familiar with what to do, as fast as he should have been. One time, they never called at all. I had to call them. The other time they called, it was so late. We were moving into a new house and the previous owners had a security system. I saw ADT on the information, so I gave them a call. So far, I don't really use the system that much as far as activating it. I got zones where the cameras don't work anymore and I've had my fill with ADT. I'm not that happy with them and I'm going to discontinue after my period is up here. I would also tell my friends to look at other systems.
The other night, the ADT system said my internet went out, but it didn't. Then the system didn't reset when it went back on. So I had to get out of bed to shut the system off because it was tweaking and driving my dogs crazy. This happened in the middle of the night more than once. If I'm in the house, I don't want to keep putting my security code in, especially at 2:00 in the morning. Also, I can't just shut it off and I have to turn the volume all the way down. There's no button to silence it. Aside from that, for so many times, to reset the cameras that I have outside the house, I had to get on the ladder and keep pressing buttons on the camera to try to have that hooked up to the Wi-Fi system.
The other thing is that you can't make modifications. You can't add a security zone without calling in to ADT and have them do it. Then, you spend too much time on the phone. I don't want to deal with that and nowadays, adding a security zone is something that I should be able to do without having to call them. Recently, I had some windows changed and I shouldn't have to have ADT come in and put sensors on the windows or charge me for new sensors. Those sensors are two cents and to charge me whatever they're charging is a insult because I pay $60 a month for the system.

ADT is a great security company. I knew about them through advertisements and the internet. The rep is very knowledgeable and gets directly to the point of trying to resolve any issue when you have one. They're very patient about it and do everything in their power to resolve it. I was gonna replace the battery in one of the ADT alarms and I did everything he told me and it didn't work. I did it again and found out that it was just one small little issue of error that I was doing. I thought I was doing everything according to what he told me but I wasn't. It's something you can very easily be confused with. When he repeated that process rather slowly again for the third time, everything worked.
I work for a company where we try to send you something o if you're on the phone with an issue, it's like you're taking their time. And with ADT, that's not the issue. They take the time to try and resolve it for you. Since we moved here to Florida three years ago, everything else that we have done without moving to a different package has all increased in price. ADT's price increase was very minimal compared to others.

I was an ADT customer for 17 years until December 2024 and generally had a positive experience with their services. In March 2023, I purchased a new property and decided to stay with ADT, signing a 36-month contract and agreeing to a higher monthly payment due to system and equipment requirements. In December 2024, we decided to sell our property and requested an early cancellation of the contract. We were initially quoted a reasonable cancellation fee, which we agreed to. However, a few days later, we received a bill stating a much higher amount than what was originally quoted. Despite the agent’s efforts to lower the bill further, ADT’s account management team refused to honor the original quoted price.
When I contacted the account management team, I was routed multiple times before finally speaking with an agent who confirmed that the lower amount quoted by the previous agent in fact was documented in their records. Despite this, ADT demanded the higher amount. If you’re considering canceling your contract, I strongly recommend getting an email confirmation of the quoted fee to avoid confusion or unexpected charges. Without this, you may end up spending hours on the phone being passed around, only to face additional costs.

Beyond that, the system requires you to use Google Home. If you ever have issues with Google the cameras disconnect and turning them back on and getting them connected is a nightmare! When I called to see if someone could come out to do it, they quoted me $80 just for the person to show up and $169.99 FOR EVERY HOUR AFTER THAT! When I called to cancel of course I couldn’t. But somehow they were able to lower my bill by $57 a month! Why didn’t they do that in the first place?! Now I don’t even want the system or the service because I’m so disgusted by their shady business practices. Do yourself a favor and go with a different option over ADT.

The installers had to routinely come back out. The installer who first came on was new and she installed the motion sensor upside down. So it never really worked inside the house. I kept wondering and asking them. They sent a more seasoned installer who came and saw that she put it in upside down. When it came to the doorbell camera, these are all brand new, fresh out the box doorbell cameras. But she said, "Oh, this one's defective. Oh, let me try another one. This one's defective. Let me try another one." I found it hard to believe that three doorbell cameras are all defective. I said, "Probably you don't know what you're doing." She ended up getting somebody else to come help install the rest of the stuff.
The quality of the system is not so great. I always have to call ADT. If I change my router or my router comes offline, their steps are just a huge pain in the ** and not user-friendly. The steps on their online site do not match reality. Some of the technicians don't even know how all the different things work because there are too many different wi-fis or laptops. But that they can never really pinpoint issues very well.
Another issue that I've had more recently is that, no matter how much I'll go out and delete the whole online video library for all the videos that are recording for whenever the video gets triggered. It's supposed to delete them every so often but it doesn't. About every month, I have to spend an hour or two, and that's if I bother to do it. But a lot of times, I just quit doing it because it's just such a nuisance. I have to go through and manually delete everything. It's just not user-friendly. Another thing is that ADT is advertising somebody else's equipment to use with their system. This reiterates the fact that they don't have a good system and they're outsourcing to somebody else.

The service that we got from ADT in the beginning sucked when we started having problems with this alarm. We got passed around from people to people. We would get texts that were after hours from customer service and other places that couldn't help us. Everyone just kept telling us to do the same thing over and over, and we kept telling them it was not working. We requested that somebody needed to come out and look at this alarm. We've had it for a long time. They sent a tech out. Never told us that there would be a charge for the tech of $250. I said, “Why would we pay for a tech to come out to work on your system that's having a problem?” That didn't make sense to me.
It started off in one room, then throughout the house. They told me to replace the batteries in the windows in one room. We replaced batteries in those two windows. They said replace the battery pack in the system. We did that, but nothing still worked. Finally, we got this nice lady, and now we have a tech coming out tomorrow that we will not pay for because we shouldn't have to. We've been without an alarm on our home for over two weeks. If something was to happen, we could sue ADT because they never did their job to come out and secure our premises to make sure it was safe. They haven't done anything to guarantee our safety.
When we first started having problems with the alarm system, it constantly went off. Somebody from ADT had the nerve to send us a text stating that they canceled the police service because we told them to? That's a lie because we never talked to anybody. We just got a text telling us that it had been canceled. I thought, “So somebody could be in here getting killed, and you guys take it among yourselves just to cancel the service.”
We have an older system that was put into the landline, which they also didn't tell us that was outdated. We didn’t find out until the technician came before he told us it was a 250 charge. I showed him. He said, “That has been outdated for a few years now.” ADT has long time customers because we've been customers for over five years. They never wanted to offer to update our equipment or tell us about anything that was new. They just take the money every month.

ADT is terrible. They are liars and their monthly fee for monitoring is very excessive. I'm going to get the whole system ripped out and put something else in momentarily. I called them about things that were not working well and spoke to a guy. Then I got a phone call from the guy the day that he was coming in the morning. He said he was coming in to take a look at the system. But I told him that he was coming in to replace one of the keypads because it was not functioning well. He said he didn't have that work order and that I had to call customer service.
I called customer service and they said whatever the guy told me was not true. Then, I was told that if I wanted a new keypad, they were going to charge me for it. I tried a lot of times to talk to somebody about this and a rep called me up saying they could give me a great deal to replace the whole system because mine was very old. But they never called me back. Aside from the broken keypads, there were always issues with the cell signal. I am done with ADT, so I'm going to put in the Ring system myself, which is very easy to do. ADT is going to lose a customer they had for 22 years for just being the worst business people in the world. And every time I called about something, they'd say it would mean an extra charge. Why is it an extra charge for them and it comes standard with everybody else?

I haven't gotten around to having ADT pick up this camera that doesn't seem to act right. The customer service has been awful for the last few times. The tech department clearly has absolutely no clue as to what they're doing. But other than that, it's okay. We've had a new camera sent out like three times within the last year. They keep telling me, “Well, it should only be doing this. It should only do that. We now got it right. Now, it's doing what it's supposed to do now.” It’s not. I keep it covered up all the time now unless I absolutely leave the house. It records when it's not supposed to, and when it's supposed to, it doesn't. It all depends on how the wind is blowing outside.
The customer service part was awful. They set me up for a couple of appointments. I was available for the call. But I never got it because I'd have to be here at the house. That never came through. One of them actually came through, but it came through the day after I was at work that day. I understand people can make mistakes. But I'm a person that I know when my off days are, so everything is scheduled to be done on my off days. I'm not gonna schedule you to do something. A rep that I dealt with said, “Well, maybe it was done, maybe, the wrong day.” So I told her, “Ma'am, don't try to turn this around on me. Okay? If I made a mistake, I made a mistake. And that's possible. But that wasn't possible.” It just pissed me off.
Rescheduling is an inconvenience for me. It was an inconvenience for me the first time because I sat here in my house, waiting on you guys to call. I've done the thing where it tells you, you can put your name in the queue, you can put your number in the queue and get a call back, that's happened a couple of times where I'd never gotten a call back. I call back, and then they say, “Oh, yeah. I'm sorry.” I do get some nice people. None of them have really been mean. But it could have been handled a little differently.

ADT's reps were quick, to the point, and were knowledgeable with what they were talking about. One gentleman showed up for the installation. Friendly guy, quick, and knew what he was doing. Got everything done within 30 minutes. We like the package. It came with windows and door sensors, and the gentleman that installed it recommended that we only got window sensors for the back of the house because the front of the house was a public street. He made it simple, so we got door and window sensors, and a motion sensor in the house. We also got two key fobs for our vehicles. The bill has been cheap, which is great. The installation was awesome. The system works when we need it to and want it to. But maintenance on the sensors is ridiculous because they break. I wouldn't recommend ADT to anyone.
We've had ADT for a very long time, so we thought we were loyal customers. We always pay our bill on time. We stayed with them. Our key fob started acting up, and ADT wanted to charge us money for a new key fob versus fixing the key fob or replacing it. I've called multiple times and spoke to different people over the month, and still no avail. No, "We'll do a one-time replacement for you.” No, “We understand that the key fobs are having issues.” They wanted $80 for one key fob.
The key fob is very convenient for when you're in your car and you're pulling out, especially if you have babies and infants that you got strapped in your car. Forget to set the alarm, you gotta take the kids back out of the car, take them in the house, set the alarm. Ours no longer work because the batteries are not replaceable. It's a one solid system, so we can't pop it open and change the batteries. We can change the window and door sensors' batteries, but there's a flimsy housing. The sensor itself is cheaply made. I have to pry it open with a screwdriver or knife. It has a little indention where I can pry it open. But the tab that connect the two pieces together are no bigger than a grain of rice. If I changed the batteries once or twice, the connecting pieces would break. So, some of the sensors no longer stay together. It was a hassle every time we had to change the battery because I super glued the things together.
I called ADT again, and they said, “We gotta charge you a service call,” and it's just a money grab. I have an operating system. I take care of my system. The parts should not be so flimsy where I couldn't change a battery. I'm not a guy that can't change batteries. I'm not overly forceful with it. I'm also well rounded in that area. They're poorly made. They're very cheap and homeowners can't change the batteries, and ADT sure as hell isn’t coming to change the batteries in my sensors. I would not get ADT again on that alone. That's a big issue for me. I could see if ADT sent a technician over and saw neglect or that the key fob was thrown in a tray full of sticky coins and was nasty, wet and dirty. Our key fobs are flawless. They look like they just came out of the packaging. So, poor design on some stuff. And their grab for more money scares me away from them.

It was a very long conversation with the rep. It got a bit personal, because the guy sent me pictures of him at some event. I said, “What the hell is going on here? I'm a 65-year-old woman. You're in your thirties.” But he didn't know that. Maybe he did, and that was just his shtick to get somebody to sign on because I heard about how he had trouble with his wife, and I couldn't get in touch with him, and he had to get a new phone because he got divorced and the wife took the phone.
I explained that to his supervisor because I felt scammed with the whole thing. He told me I could cancel whenever I wanted. That wasn't true. I'm in a three year contract, and I've never activated the system. The doorbell thing rings, but I have not set the alarm because I wasn't given great instructions and things would happen, and they would come back out. Also, every time I open and close the door, it would tell me that it was open and closed. I have a dog. We come and go all the time, so I always get these alerts. And there was no way to deactivate it without deactivating the system. That is what I was told. It's not lining up with my internet. I pay $68 a month for nothing.
The person who did the installation was a nice guy, but I understand he was new and some of the things that he told me about how the system operates was not exactly so. I had to have somebody else come out, because they were all independent contractors. I had Safe Systems, and I never got the same person out. I talked to a supervisor. At that time, it was right after it happened, so I had explicit details. This is a year ago now. ADT sent me an email. I went into detail and said I wasn't happy. Nobody has contacted me.

Let me preface, I am a disabled veteran, I was excited to purchase my first home through the Veterans Association assistance programs and after finally sealing the deal and now taking on the greatest challenge of my adult life I had to not nurture this home and I thought a good idea would be to add an extra layer of security with ADT at some point. However, my experience with ADT has been incredibly disappointing and frustrating. From the initial sales pitch to the cancellation process, I feel completely misled and taken advantage of.
The sales representative repeatedly contacted me over a three-month period, from about a week after I closed assuring me that ADT could provide a discounted activation fee due to my veteran status, I kept putting it off and I stupidly told him to call me again after the first and when I get my Veterans disability check maybe I might be able to do this. Despite expressing financial concerns, I was persuaded to move forward in the moment with the installation, he latched onto my veterans status, thanked me, told me he could now waive fees because I am a veteran under the false pretense of no upfront costs.
During the installation process, I discovered that the promised integration with my Google devices and the inclusion of window sensors were not part of the basic package. To utilize these features, I would have to pay additional fees, significantly increasing the monthly cost. Furthermore, I was informed that I would need to pay an extra fee to monitor the system myself through an app.
6 days later I attempted to cancel the service, I encountered significant obstacles. After numerous phone calls, waiting on hold, callbacks and transfers between different departments, I was told that I would be responsible for paying the remainder of the three-year contract, even though I had only had the service for six days. Despite explaining my situation as a first-time homeowner and disabled veteran, I was met with dismissive and unsympathetic responses from customer service representatives from ADT and another company who ADT immediately gave my contract to, LVD Concepts. LVD informed me not 2 minutes after the ADT rep told me that I was able to get out of the contract, LVD told me I could get out if I paid them for the next 3 years, $1500. 6 days of service through what I thought was ADT but turned out to be LVD and LVD wanted to strong-arm me.
This entire experience has been emotionally draining, triggered some of my US Army documented disorders and has caused me unnecessary stress that I've had to call the Veterans Crisis Line in order to talk to someone and gather myself. I feel that ADT has not only failed to deliver on their promises but has also engaged in deceptive sales practices. I urge potential customers to exercise caution and consider alternative security providers.
I was promised that ADT corporate would be contacting me after getting off the phone with the last agent, she was helpful and sympathetic. She said within 24 hours management would call me, nothing, not an email or text or phone call. I hope that by sharing my story, I can warn others about the misleading tactics employed by ADT and encourage the company to improve its customer service and transparency.

We've heard about ADT many years ago and we chose it because it was the cheapest rate and seemed like the best deal. The technician who came by and installed the system explained everything very clearly and concisely. I understood everything he said and what all the controls meant. We've been with them for over a year and the system is very easy to use, easy to understand, and everything seems to be in sync.
The crashproof alarms that the technician installed on the windows and doors are my favorite features. Also, the keyboard is big, bright, and easy to understand. One day, my mother-in-law activated the alarm one day and everything was done according to procedure. A representative called me, I answered all his questions, and the police showed up.

I chose ADT because their thing isn't just connected to Wi-Fi. It's connected to a satellite or whatever so if the Wi-Fi goes down, the security doesn't necessarily go down. The guy who came out and sold me the whole thing was awesome. He was patient, very personable, and made sure that I was getting things that I needed for my personal situation. He also did everything he could do to give me the best deal on the equipment, which is extremely expensive. Then, when they originally put in my security system, I wasn't thinking about where they would put the screen. But then later, I was looking at my living room like, "That is smack dab in the middle of a main wall, where I would wanna hang art. That's kind of ugly." I called them and they came right back out. They scheduled a guy free of charge to move it to a different room, where it's not as big a deal and closer to the front door.
They have great customer service and the system itself is very reliable. I have several cameras and I haven't had any glitches or anything. Anytime anyone comes on the porch or anywhere near my backyard, it goes off. It gives me peace of mind to know that if anybody was to open anything in my house I would know instantly. It makes me feel safe to know I can come home and if I have my alarm armed, nobody's in the house waiting on me. The only thing is it is a little costly. But other than that, as far as the service goes, I'm very satisfied.

STAY AWAY FROM ADT AT ALL COSTS!!!! STOLE $5,000 FROM MY 80-YEAR-OLD MOTHER. Four weeks ago, I decided to have a security system installed on my mother's house, she is 80 years old. I called ADT and told them that all I wanted was sensors and cameras installed on the front and back doors. I was quoted over the phone that this job would come in around $200 plus monthly monitoring fees. I agree and set a date for install. I could not be there for the install. The installer (ADT Tech) ended up installing motion detectors, perimeter cameras, fire alarms, window sensors (installed on windows that don't open, and you can't even get too) and charged my mom $5,000+. During the install my mom told the tech that she didn't believe her son ordered all of this and that she didn't want all of this. The tech told her oh no this is what you son ordered, and this is what you need. Which was a flat lie!
For the last 4 weeks I have been calling ADT to get this corrected and my mom's money refunded to her. I have called twice a week for 4 straight weeks. Each time being told that somebody who could help me would return my call. Finally, I drive to ADT Tacoma off of North 9th Street. I was told there by Brad Wheeler (General Manager of Operations for the Pacific Northwest) that he couldn't do anything for me. Really? He proceeded to tell me I needed to contact Nick Gayman a 3rd party installer as he was in charge and who I needed to talk too. I spoke with Nick, and he said I needed to speak with account management to get this fixed, which is who I spoke with already twice a week for the last few weeks.
I have never been given the run around so much in my life. I even told them I would keep the equipment I ordered and continue the monthly monitoring service. I just wanted them to do what was right and remove the equipment I didn't order and refund my mom her $4,800+. But apparently nobody at ADT is capable of making the situation right. I am sure this isn't the first time this has happened and won't be the last. I will continue to make this right and won't be going away. Next stop BBB.

The house that I moved into had the ADT alarm and in order for them to remove it, they wanted to charge me ridiculous money. So, I went with them. Then, when I moved to my current house, again, I couldn't get out of the contract. It's been a very unpleasant experience the whole time that I've been with them. When I talked to their reps on the phone, I got the runaround and I didn't get the resolution. But the reps I dealt with in person were excellent. Other than that, the system's performance has been poor and unreliable, too. But if it works, I like being able to operate the system remotely. That's the most important feature and the one that I need the most.
One time, my phone was telling me that my system was off. And at the time, a couple of the times, I was overseas. And the only answer that I could get from ADT's rep was, “Don't believe the app setup. It's unreliable and the system is probably okay. Another answer I would get was, “Oh, you have to be home to be able to address the problem,” which makes no sense. Right now, I'm waiting for the repairman to come on Friday. All in all, I would tell my friends not to get ADT.

ADT is good and we never had issues with the system's functionality. A few times when my parents hit the alarm accidentally, the police showed up right away. But we never got a call from ADT asking if we were okay. Also, we're having a lot of issues with the sensors. They sent us two and we fixed one of them. The other one started working fine, but another one didn't go through. So, we had to use the last one we had on the second window. Then it went out. So right now, we're having lights saying that the keypad battery is no longer good. And we're trying to find out how to remove that.
Aside from that, we noticed that every once in a while, we'd get a raise on the price without notice. They have done it twice in a year but nobody had the luxury to send us an email. So, we started on 27 and now we're on 51. My system is nine years old and nobody has ever updated it. And I got a window with no sensor on it. Since ADT installed it, nobody cares about it. So, if you'd break into my house, you just have to break that window. It's a window that doesn't open. We told ADT about it and the person who took care of us explained that that window needs a sensor so that when you break the window, it will trigger the alarm. But they want to charge me for it. When they did the contract with us, they saw that window and they were supposed to cover the entire house for the money that they charge me. And for some reason, they didn't put anything into it.
The ADT system used to be a good system when it first came out. But now, I wouldn't recommend it. It's just a keypad with 15 sensors with a little battery in them. And they're all old and failing. We have to open and close the door or windows two to three times to activate the alarm. Every time we'd have issues with the sensors, we'd call and they'd want us to pay $120 per sensor. But their system's failing, not me.
I can get a better service and equipment with somebody else for the money I pay to ADT. Every month, they charge me my card and there's no problem. But when I try to lock the system to leave the house, it cannot do it. And I have to bypass that window or that door to be able to set it on. Imagine if you're going to be doing that, you're leaving one point of the house ready for somebody to break into. Right now, we have to do that with a keypad. But I already removed one of the keypads. It said battery low, so I took it off and there are no holes or doors to put a new battery in it. And I have to change the second keypad. I tried to get it to see if that one has a battery in it. But I haven't found it. In the meantime, it has an orange light on there. So, it's a bad system.

But now, when people ring the doorbell, they can't hear me, I can't hear them. At night, it doesn't show a clear picture. It's grainy-looking. My Ring camera had better quality. I don't know if I got a faulty camera. But I am switching my Wi-Fi this week. I was gonna give that a try to see if that would help it. If not, I was gonna give them a call. I would probably have them take it and put my Ring camera back on. Because if it's not gonna give me the quality I need and I can't speak to people when they come, then there's no point for me having it.

We've had ADT for almost 20 years now. We get upset that we see advertisements for new customers paying a lower monthly fee than we pay now. At one point, we threatened to leave and then they lowered it. But we still pay almost $50 a month for monitoring. I have neighbors who have cheaper monitoring. Another thing I don't like is that I have to buy the signs. We've been customers for 20 years and signs are gonna go bad and you have to buy them. We've taped the one we had so many times that we could tape it. And now we just don't have one. But the system meets it to what we need.
We've had false alarms sometimes. They usually call our home phone. They know if they don't get an answer at home, they call my cell and we just give a code and they verify. We tell them that it was a false alarm. But the majority of the time, sometimes when we trigger it, it's somebody helping us with our dog or we do it soon enough that we put the code in and it turns it off. We just get an automatic call saying that, "We've noticed that it was a false alarm." And they won't be sending anybody out. We also like that we can check on our phones and see if we armed our system. If we didn't, we could hit the button and it alarms our system while we're driving down the road.

I've used ADT before when we were out in Colorado and I mainly went with them because of the confidence I have in their reliability as far as getting in contact with me if an alarm goes off. The functionality of the system is above average. There are some problems that I haven't been able to resolve but they're small issues and overall, it's been good. Some of my favorite features are the doorbell that lets me know that somebody's there or if there's a package that was dropped off and that I'm able to see if there's any window or door that I forgot to close when we're going away and I arm the system. When I added a camera to the system, they have a virtual system and they were very helpful and knowledgeable in setting up the equipment.
Also, they've been responsive whenever I had any problems. The one bad experience I had with them is I ordered an extra camera and I found out that I needed to upgrade my internet service to handle that additional camera. I didn't wanna do that because of the cost so I returned the camera and, after about four months of trying to get a refund for that camera, I just gave up. I talked to six to eight people during that time and all of them said we'd get the refund in the mail or on my credit card or a credit towards my account but that never happened. Other than that, I feel very confident that we're safe and the response time is great. We pay $67 a month and, for me, it's worth it.

My experience with ADT is not very good. My house caught on fire about a year ago and I had stuff stolen from my house during the fire. I decided to up a security system and ADT was one of the first things that popped up on the website. I've known about them and dealt with them through cleaning businesses throughout Springfield, Missouri and everybody I talked to seemed to like them. The guy who installed it was really nice and the system was really good and it was easy to work. I could turn it on and off by my phone. You couldn't get in here or open the doors without me knowing it. But about six months into it, the relationship between me and ADT fell apart.
They couldn't take the money out from my bank and the money wouldn't come out for some reason. They said it was my bank's fault so I went to my bank but my bank said it wasn't the bank and that my card was working. I called back ADT and they asked to read my number for my card. I did and it finally went through. Four minutes later, they took out another $77 and some change after they took what they needed. It was not authorized. I called to talk to them about it and sent them an email with a picture of it. They said they didn't get it and they wouldn't let me talk to a supervisor. I tried three or four times. I've changed my bank account number and I don't have much to do with them. I disconnected my system -- unplugged it and put it in a box. I'm getting ready to take down all the sensors and stuff and send it back to them. I wish they'd be more customer-friendly and management needs to step up when stuff is wrong.

I'm dissatisfied with ADT's product and their ability to resolve issues. We have had multiple tech issues with the system. We have had multiple alarms going off at random times. The batteries are not cheap. Each of the systems, whether it be the windows or the smoke alarms, take two of these batteries. They start to go off for replacement every few months. We were told they should last numerous years. We constantly purchase these batteries and replace them. Because they die quickly, the panel is constantly off or it would have to bypass. I have three windows that show open from my basement, all the way up to my living room. When we have to set the alarm, it shows error. I get error messages, and that it's being bypassed. We have checked and double-checked these windows. The windows are locked. The piece that's on there, everything is fine. But it's bypassing.
It leaves my home at risk because if I set an alarm and it says those windows are open, they're not open. Someone could break into those windows and get into my home. I have called and launched complaints, but no one has reached out to me. I've had several techs come to the home to try to fix this. All they did was replace batteries. I'm tired of calling at this point. I get bounced around. I have to set aside an hour and a half to get through to ADT. The last time I called, I spoke to a nice young lady who took everything down and said she understood. She was gonna escalate this to her boss. I said I needed someone on a district or regional level to address this, because we paid so much for this system. We pay our bill every month. If I had technical issues and I was traveling and my house was broken into, this would be a liability for ADT.

I initially had the alarm system put in 40 years ago. After my house was broken into, I got the cameras and when I got them, the guys that installed the camera said, "Make sure you get the service agreement. Pay for the service agreement and make sure you keep it because since you're getting the high-powered cameras, they tend to malfunction a lot. And if you have your service plan, they can just swap them out, or any other problems you have with your equipment, they'll swap it out."
Eight years ago my DVR for my cameras went out. ADT told me, "You canceled the service agreement," which I didn't because of what the installers told me. What they said about the cameras was right, because one of my cameras went bad, and each camera was astronomical. I got the globe where they fit up under the eaves. They were very expensive. Each camera was $500. They were expensive back then. Many companies out there now are not that expensive. I called ADT and they looked and said, "You have the service agreement." They replaced that camera at no charge.
When the DVR went bad, they said, "You don't have a service contract." I said, "Yes, I did." And they told me I never had it. I spoke to many managers and I went to the highest level of who I could make complaints trying to get my DVR replaced. To date, after they kept telling me no, I don't call them anymore. I can't even use these expensive cameras that I have all around my house because they wanted to charge me an astronomical amount for a DVR saying that I never had a service agreement, which I know I did. Their DVRs are only made custom for ADT. Because I had ADT come out, I had other people after they told me it would cost 3000 dollars for the DVR. ADT is horrible.
The installers told me, "Get the service agreement and make sure you keep it.” Because when I order the cameras, back then, I had months or up to 90 days to add that portion of the service. I did it right when they told me. After they finished installing the cameras, I got it because they are the experts. If they said these cameras go out often, would do it. I've talked to many people there. At first, one person said, "The escalation department will replace it." When the guy got here, he said, "I'm looking at your account and you don't have the service. So, you're gonna have to pay for the DVR." I said, "I'm not paying for that. They told me they were gonna install it with no charge." It went on for years and years I dealt with them and I'm not happy with them about that. The only reason I'm still with them is because all the wiring in my house is for ADT.
Maybe when ADT transferred me over to paying yearly, someone screwed up. I used to pay monthly. When the renewal came for that next month, I said, "I wanna pay yearly." Because I made more money. Every utility is automatically taken out of my checking account. Everything that I can pay for yearly, I do because it makes it easier. That works for me. ADT company screwed up when they transferred me from monthly to yearly. As a result, I'm suffering. I have all these wiring throughout my house and all these expensive bulbs. It's like a little bubble that goes straight up in the eaves. Some people put theirs on the front of their house. That I can't use.
I have been with ADT for so long with the alarm system. I have the alarm system on my doors and windows. I got everything. I've been a loyal customer to ADT all that time and they did me like this. They kept giving me a runaround for a year. I talked to many people until I blew the face and they still refused. I even tried back a year later after that transpired, and they told me the same thing. "You never had a service contract." Some people said, "You called and canceled it." I told them, "Pull my calls where I called in and canceled it." "We have to research that and get back with you." I said, "I wanna hear the call." I requested that several times from managers and they never got back with me. So, if I canceled it, they should have my signature or the phone call because they record all their calls.
The alarm system sometimes would act up. Also, ADT came out and had to replace that infrared in my living room. After I would set my alarm when leaving, 30 to 45 minutes after I would leave, it would go off and I would be an hour away, sometime 30 minutes away, and it kept happening for a week. I called them when it first happened. The person that installed the new infrared, even the guy that took my old one out, said, "These are the best ones. These are so reliable." I had had it for a while. They put another one in that is smaller. The light is a different color. He said the old ones were the ones that were like solid. The new ones kept going off. One time, I was in the MRI appointment. They called. I was far away.
ADT sent two guys out. They couldn't figure it out. They said it was because of my dog. My dog would set it off. My dog is way on the floor and the infrared was way up. The third person that came out said they didn't hook it up right. He said, "One wire wasn't even connected." But I haven't had any problems since he hooked it up right.
I've recently seen a bunch of stuff on the internet where these companies would prey on elderly people. They would steal their money. One other time years ago, I don't know who it was, and I didn't find out until later, they stole a $6000 bracelet tennis bracelet that was on top of my jewelry box where my DVR was. I had many people coming out trying to fix the DVR. I'm a trusting person. I wouldn't want somebody micromanaging or looking over me when I'm doing my job. But I learned the hard way. That's another big thing. ADT is supposed to vet their people.

I'm not sure why I've stayed with ADT because they're expensive. I've thought about leaving. I had other companies when I lived somewhere else, and I liked them better. The people that have come out here to do the installation and put new equipment in have always been good and know what they are doing. ADT's customer service used to be good. But as of the last couple of years, it has gone down the toilet. I would try and call in there, and I would get routed to some foreign country overseas every time. I couldn't understand the people. And it's not pleasant. If I wanted or needed something, it would be gone to pot. I would call in to ask about changing a battery up somewhere, and they would help me. But try calling in now and asking a question about service. It's impossible to get in there the last three times I've tried. If I find anybody I like better down here, I'm gonna leave.

ADT is a good service. I like the cost and the product. The equipment is constantly updated. I get texts and emails when there are some new equipment or something coming out. But I can opt out of that if I don't want it. That's a good thing. Also, the customer service is good. Everybody has been very knowledgeable. They've taken care of my problem. They updated the camera one time. And they came out because the camera went offline and I couldn't get it back on with going through the troubleshooting. Other than that, I haven't had any problems. The last time the utilities went out, there was a power outage in the whole area in my neighborhood. It lasted six days. That wasn't their fault. And it’s easy to install. I don't have to have them come back to do that. I can do that on my own.

I hate ADT. It's all based off the internet, so if my internet went down and I live in a rural area, my house is not protected. I get automated phone calls constantly saying that my service is down, my home is not protected. Also, I thought it was only a year contract. It's three. So after a year, I tried to cancel. It's a three-year contract but the people didn't tell me because it wasn't ADT people. It was a third party that came. I didn't know that they didn't work for ADT.
When I had a problem with my sensors, because he installed the sensor in one of my dining room windows, installed it with my air conditioner in the window, so after summer, when I shut my window, that window is not protected because the sensors are in the wrong place. I called ADT, and they said that they would have to charge me to come and move it. I said, “That's ridiculous, because who puts the sensor where the window’s open if it's not gonna be permanently open?” I can't stand them. I can't wait until my three years is up.

We had ADT in our previous home and liked it, so when we moved to Fredericksburg, we called them again. They were helpful. There was also an existing system in the home, so the installers checked it out and reactivated it, offered to change or move anything, and it was fine. We had a false alarm because they set the sensors for a certain height, and our cat would set it off. I had to make that suggestion to ADT, because we weren't home, and I said, “I don't know how your detector works, but we have a cat in the home. So if it's motion detector or sound detector, that's what set it off. But tell me how it works, because it happened twice and we didn't want the police to come, because the third time, they get mad.” They explained to me that it is a height sensor. They adjusted it and we didn't have any more problems.

I'm not getting what I'm paying for. I live near railroad tracks, and the vibration sets off the window alarms. They cannot tone down that sensitivity. Also, I have some items that I'm not using. The only thing I'm using is the smoke detector and the carbon monoxide detector. I pay almost $60 a month for those two things because I can't alarm my doors and windows. I complained about the windows. They would come out and set the sensors to the lowest setting. But it didn't work. After that, I didn't pursue it because ADT couldn't do anything about it. Be careful, because if you live near railroad tracks, the system doesn't work.

We contacted ADT back in 2002. We were desperate for a security system. The lady we talked to was very nice. She told us what was available, and what she thought we needed. She told us everything. She was very easy to work with. However, I've expressed my concerns numerous times that I'm afraid that ours is outdated. “No, it's fine. It's working.” If the alarm went off, we would immediately get calls. Now, we would get a text if there was a problem. That's concerning to me because if I was out eating dinner or with friends, and a text came in, I don't have my phone out. I might not see a text for an hour, whereas a phone call, I would at least look and see. “This is ADT. I need to answer it.”
When we put the system in, we were told that the way we set it up, everything was included. If a battery broke down, they would replace the battery. If a piece of equipment broke, they would replace it. They no longer replace the batteries, which I understand after a while. And last year, one of the batteries went out in one of our family room windows. When we took the cover off because it was 21 years old at the time, the plastic had dry-rotted from the sun, and it broke. The other one on the other window, we weren't sure which was zone six and which was zone seven. We took the cover off both, and we had to replace them. That was over $100 to replace the two things on the window. We have several windows, and as we have to replace them, if they break, we will get an updated system.

My ADT works fine. I've had a couple of problems with the battery, but we had a service call. The only thing that drives me crazy sometimes is it beeps if a door is open. That way, I know that my husband didn't shut the door on the way to the patio. I have multiple keypads, so I can set it from my bedroom at night, from the utility room when I leave the house through one garage, and from my dinette when I leave the house from another garage door. That's the way I had my security set up in the other places we've lived, multiple stations where I don't have to go all the way through the house to turn it on or off.

So, we've been with ADT for about 25 years. When I set the system, it turns on. And when I turn it off, it turns off. It notifies people when it needs to. It kept my other homes very good. I had it on several doors that kept the kids from out of the swimming pool and would alarm them. It goes off if somebody comes into the house or when the door opens or the smoke alarm goes off. When I needed it, seemed to be working alright.

I went with ADT years ago shortly after I bought my home. It was a little bit safer having an alarm system and most of the homes in the neighborhood have one. The sales rep was a friend so the process was very easy. He arranged the installation at my convenience and it went smoothly. I got a fob for my keychain to turn the alarm system on and off and I got a text message from them telling me that the battery was low. They sent a tech to the house and he replaced the battery in the fob. A couple of years later, the motion detector had a battery issue and rather than send somebody, they mailed me batteries. The motion detector was hanging off the ceiling, so I couldn't reach it. They ended up permanently overriding the motion detector so I wouldn't have to do extra keystrokes and I was still paying for a feature that I had no access to.
Fast forward to more recently. This year at the beginning of July, my alarm went off and indicated that it was a smoke problem. There was no smoke and no fire in the house though. The fire department showed up and confirmed that everything was all right. But the alarm system continued to go off every three minutes. So, I was bouncing up and down, going to the panel to turn it off. When I got on the phone with ADT and I said that it had to stop, they could not override it remotely. They sent me an email of what a transformer looked like in the basement. They wanted me to go down there. I unplugged the battery but because it was still plugged in, it was still going off. So, I was running between two floors, turning it off every three minutes. It wasn't acceptable.
I found the transformer only to find out that it was screwed into the outlet and there was no way I was gonna take a screw and put it in an electric outlet. So I told them that they gotta do something about it and they gave me a tech appointment that was 10 days out. I asked them what I was supposed to do with it going off every three minutes. And she could hear it over the other end of the phone. It was like dealing with the Keystone Cops. Every three minutes, the alarm was going off but ADT would not come to do anything. Every time, they would put me on a brief hold. That was my clue that they were disconnecting me.
I had somebody willing to give me a $10 discount for my inconvenience but they ended up charging me close to $400 for an emergency call. I said I was not waiting 10 days for it to be resolved. So, I had them send an emergency tech out. He was very good. He said that the smoke detector portion was not functioning correctly and wasn't even communicating with the alarm system. He had to replace the smoke detector and reconnect the whole thing. Then, he took the screw out downstairs so that I could undo it myself the next time. He said they had a change in ownership and they were not as good. It was a do-it-yourself thing, which was not what I was paying for. So I sent ADT a three-page type-written letter. I sent it to their CEO and their chairman of the board in July and I have yet to get a written response to that letter.
In the meantime, I called ADT back to see what they could do and they were able to give me a month's discount, which is 50-some odd dollars off my bill, because of the inconvenience. The first time the issue happened, I requested a tech and ADT told me it was resolved, so there was no need for it. But if ADT sent the tech then, then there would have been no need for an emergency visit and because they wouldn't do it, it cost me 400 bucks. So, I'm not very happy with ADT at all. Then, the reps pass you around when you call. The last time I was on the phone with them, I spoke to four different people and I had to start the story from the beginning each time. So, there was no communication among them. They had no copy of the letter I sent and I asked them when I was gonna get a response to the letter. The reps said probably by November 15th. It has come and gone and I never received any kind of a response.
I just found out from the person I spoke with that ADT is regulated by the FTC. So my next thing is to write to the FTC and I'll send them a copy of the letter that I sent to ADT because then they're forced to respond within a certain time frame. But I even had somebody from ADT. They sent me a survey about how they did and I wrote back and said it was abominable and it was like the Keystone Cops. I got an email from one of their employees who invited me to talk about this further and to give him the times and days when I’m available to speak. So I did that and I never heard from him again and he's also copied on that letter. So ADT’s responsiveness has been poor.

In my 30 years with ADT, sometimes, the representatives answered my questions and sometimes, they didn’t. Sometimes, they were willing to work with me and sometimes, they weren't. I should have asked for a manager but they couldn't overstep their bounds and limitations, so that's what it was. The techs were always good though. They met my expectations to a point. I would like to upgrade like getting that chain around the neck but it’s just too expensive. ADT was recalcitrant and wouldn't do anything about it. Another time, I was talking about maybe doing the conversion for the doorbell camera or surveillance cameras outside, and I just couldn't afford it.
One day, I was at physical training and ADT called me that somebody was trying to get into my front door. There were occasions when we had false alarms, but that was never on that front door. The rep asked if I wanted them to send the police and I said, "Absolutely.” They asked me what I was driving and how long it would take to get there. I told them and they did a thorough search, and everything was fine. So, they came back. I asked for a service call to do an upgrade on the contacts because we have a combination of battery and hardwired. They checked everything and where they thought that the magnet needed replacing or that the wiring was bad, they did that. I put in new windows in the front of the house and there were six Andersen windows in the living room, which cost $14,000. They were all hardwired and they put batteries on them, and that was darn expensive.
I wish the features were better. I only have one motion sensor here and it only covers my living room and kitchen. It'll cover anybody coming in any door or window except from upstairs. But there's nothing upstairs of any value, just damage that they can do. Every portal is covered. I have recommended ADT to my entire family and I believe they will use it. One of the questions that I asked ADT and I was disappointed in the answer is if they had a military discount. They never even answered me. Just that they don't think so. I was 21 years in the military and I deserve some kind of consideration as so many other companies give you a military discount. That's why I'm so involved with USAA because they do a lot of things for the military.

My husband got ADT 30 years ago and the company's gotten a lot better. We chose it for our current house because of the price. Unfortunately, our installer had a new baby, and he was so sleep-deprived. He was drunk and made tons of mistakes on our house installation. Our current system has not been that awesome. It's been full of problems and a real pain. I've had to call electricians to fix mistakes and have things moved around by the ADT people. It's taken me a number of years to get it untangled to work properly. When we were on a trip, the glue failed on one of the sensors and it fell off the wall. The police came. We had to pay for the police to come but that's fine. The system does its job.

I like ADT and I'd recommend them to a lot of people. They answer all my questions in the year and a half that I've had them. The installer did good work and explained to me how the system works. They called me a week ago and told me something is not working well. I'm gonna have to call them back for that.

We had ADT installed in our office and right after that, we had it installed in our house. They used former magnets from an old system that we have from RadioShack, and when I was reinstating the system and ADT came back in, they insisted that those were still good. But they weren't. They were failing. They only matched up half of the magnet and the alarm kept going off. That was annoying that the technicians were supposed to have known better and replaced them, but they didn't. I had to have them keep coming back to replace them.
I'm also having a problem with my carbon monoxide alarm tripping once in a while recently. I called about it and they tried to do a check on it. But they said that they don't have any record of it going off. Another thing is if the alarm goes off, I find it a little difficult to get through. When the call starts going through, you have to jump through hoops in order to get somebody. The phone system needs to be fixed so that if your alarm is going off, if you press one, you should get to a person right away instead of being put on hold. I've been put on hold before and that's discouraging. It almost feels like an hour when you're waiting only 16 seconds. Thankfully, it wasn't anything major. I also have the medical wristband and I love it. As soon as they detect something or if I push something, they're on right away. It's a pain having to take the little transistor thing with you but other than that, I would highly recommend that to anybody.

ADT was the first company I saw that has security cameras that has one of those tapes outside of homes. I've had them for almost a year now and the installation was good. However, I don't like how the quality is all bad, and I can barely see anything. My cars got broken into and it barely caught anything of it. It only caught two seconds of the entire thing. I had to go to my neighbors to see what happened. It's frustrating. I've asked ADT too if there was a way to upgrade. They said for the cameras, there's a 24-hour thing I can get. Nobody helps out and apparently, I'm locked in the contract for two years. If I wanna get out, I have to pay 700 bucks. I had no idea about that.

When my alarm goes off once in a while, ADT calls right away. If they can't get me, they call my son. I am always happy with that. They've always been pretty quick to respond. A couple of times, I was gonna leave the house and the phone rang and it was them making sure that everything was okay. I like knowing that I could set the alarm and feel at ease that they're gonna make sure that nobody's trying to break in. Others should look into having the system put into their home to protect them.

I would recommend ADT. I got them when I bought a home two years ago. However, they're overpriced. They could also improve on the package options - what's included in the package as far as the different type of equipment that you could choose on your own instead of them having preset packages. Another thing is sometimes, my alarm have gone off for no reason and when I called in to get some assistance, it wasn't very clear how to resolve the issue.

The installation was fine and I like that I can arm the system remotely. The phone app is convenient. But the pricing is crazy. It's gone up significantly. Companies have a feeling that once they get you, since it's so annoying to switch, you don't.

There have been a few kinks in the system. Two months ago, we had some kids that were knocking on and kicking people's doors. We had a situation where we forgot to turn the front door light on. We heard a bang and when we checked the camera, it showed a kid. It was like a night vision. It was perfect. I turned the alarm back on with the light on. Not even about 15 minutes later, another kid did the same thing. This time, he was hiding his face. He hit the door again with his foot. There's a sensor on the door, but it didn't do anything besides when it opened and closed. We called the police and let them know. The police came out and checked it. They said that it was just some kids pranking people. But nobody's called us from ADT. I thought that would have been one of the things that definitely they wanna call us about 'cause it was 11 o'clock at night.
I also wasn't able to get more cameras with the system like everybody’s got the back camera or a corner camera. I'm paying $55 a month and when I asked about adding cameras, they said they would add another $15 to my price for monitoring. But they don't have to monitor it. They just have to send us notifications. That's why some of the neighbors have different cameras on their backyard. Other than those, I like that the system gives me notifications that someone is at the door. Notification is a great thing.

ADT seemed to be the ones that people chose, so I went with them. I had the sensors installed in every window and door, then they installed the keypad. It went fast and they were here for 45 minutes. I've had the alarm for six years and it's never been replaced. Like everything else, the prices keep going up. But they've been keeping me up-to-date with what I need to know. I'm 68 years old, so I never really kept up on technology. But the process of setting the alarm is very simple for me. All I have to do is press the keypad, and put in the combination to turn the alarm on and off. A lot of other people have alarms where they have to go through certain procedures to turn their alarms on and off. So, I like the fact that with ADT, you just put your number in and that's it.
When I had a problem with my alarm, I had a rep over the phone and they were really helpful in getting my alarm back online because it wouldn't come back online since I changed the battery. But they walked me through the steps and were very friendly. With them guiding me through each step, it was pretty easy, too. Right now, I have to replace the battery in my keypad because it had a signal that it was weak. Other than that, I haven't had any issues with my system. They replaced the battery in the outside alarm twice but that's normal maintenance routine.

I like that I don't have to have a home phone to have the ADT service. However, the system is performing poorly. It doesn't always pick up activity or it doesn't save it sometimes. I've also been having an issue with the monitor at my front door forever. My system was not working for months at a time but I continued to pay a bill. They came out and fixed it but 2 days later, it went back out again. When they came out, it was a courtesy but for them to come back out, there's a fee of $100. I'm not willing to pay that. I have not had services on my alarm system for months and I'm not happy.

I've had ADT for a long time and I've always known they were the better security system. They've always been very fair with me and I never had any complaints with them. I have two systems and I've had very good experience with ADT. They've always been able to help me to resolve my problems before we have bigger problems. If I call them when I have one system that's out, they will tell me how to go back and to activate it. I'm able to operate my systems pretty well. Also, I have a locked-in price for quite a while and it's a fair rate that I pay.

We had ADT in New Jersey and we have them now in Delaware. They were better in New Jersey than they are in Delaware. In New Jersey, it wasn't a problem getting in contact with an agent. In Delaware, it's nothing but a nightmare. If I need a service guy, it's too hard to get one in Delaware 'cause they have to come out of Wilmington. They also charge you a fortune for service call. It's $50 a month compared to everybody else who's practically nothing. They are too expensive. Also, when we needed a battery change, it was a nightmare doing it online.

I knew some people that had ADT and were very pleased with it. So, I signed up with them and I feel very safe with the system. I keep it on all the time and any time a door opens, I know if someone's coming in. Everybody at ADT has also been always very polite and knowledgeable about the service. Earlier this year, my system wasn't working properly. The technician came and he was here for four hours before he could get it fixed. He had to keep calling so many people to finally get somebody that could help him get it fixed. While he could get in contact with them, they didn't know what was wrong. So they would have to refer him to somebody else and they would refer him to somebody else. I called myself when I first realized it wasn't working properly and it was so hard. I talked to at least three different people and the reps were so hard to understand. If they could just speak more clearly, it would have helped a lot.

There was a possible break-in here in this small town that I moved to and I was shocked that ADT called straight into the police station here. Workers were inside the house cleaning it and they got too much dust and it set the fire alarms off. So, the fire department was there. They called me and said they were there. When the ADT rep was selling their product, our interactions were very good. After that, it was bad. I called him, emailed him 100 times, and he never responded to me. There's always one camera that doesn't work, and he said for me to get a service, he gave me his card, his number to call him, and he will send in a service. However, I left him a message, sent him an email, and he never responded. Still, I have that issue. One camera is always off. I don't know why it is like that and I want somebody to come out and fix it. I have a service on it that I'm paying 50-something dollars every month and nobody's helping.
Everything has worked when they installed the system. But within four weeks, it just rotates around. Today, it's this camera that is offline. Then a week later, that one comes back and there's another camera that goes offline. The other features are working fine. It's just the cameras switching off here and there. That's the way it is, and nobody seem to help with that even though I pay even the service fee every month. We don't have an alarm on it. It's just a camera with the service on it. The security features are good. It is expensive though. I shouldn't have done it.
