    ADT

ADT is a nationwide leader in home security that offers professional security packages and systems. While ADT does sell some pieces of equipment separately, most customers choose to purchase a package and finance it over the course of 60 months. These packages include installation and a six-month product guarantee. ADT offers a wide variety of app options and smart-home integrations for a full home solution.

    ADT packages

    • Secure Package: The Secure Package starts at $599. This package includes a control panel, three door/window alarms and a motion detector. Customers can choose to finance their system over 60 months for $9.98 per month. Installation is included in the cost.
    • Smart Package: The Smart Package starts at $919, or $15.32 monthly for 60 months. This package includes a digital control panel, three door/window alarms, a motion detector, a smart door lock and a smart plug. With the Smart Package, customers can also remotely arm and disarm their system. Monitoring for this package starts at $49.99 per month.
    • Complete Package: The Complete Package is loaded with everything from the Secure and the Starter Package, plus an HD indoor camera, a video doorbell camera and access to live footage. This package starts at $1,049 with installation included. Customers can also finance the Complete Package for $17.48 per month for 60 months. Monitoring for this package starts at $57.99 per month.

    What ADT customers say

ConsumerAffairs users leave mostly positive reviews for the home security giant. While some customers do share some dissatisfaction with customer service and the cancellation process, many reviewers comment on quick service and respectful customer service and describe overall satisfaction with the system.

I love the features. The system lets me know when something is open. My house is large. I'm always upstairs, and I can't hear downstairs. I have new babies, so I wanted to keep us all protected.”

    Shronelle of Lancaster, CA

    Guardian Protection

The real selling point of Guardian Protection is its customizable and flexible plans. From bachelor(ette) packages for singles to pet- and parent-specific protection plans, there’s a lot of variety when it comes to Guardian Protection. The Parent Protect plan, for example, includes alerts for unexpected activity and medical support through a medical pendant. That being said, it’s hard to get information about specific pricing for these plans, which can be a bit of a frustrating experience.

    Guardian Protection packages

    • Base package: With the basic package, customers must purchase its 3-1-1 system at $149. This system includes an IQ2 control panel, a motion detector and three door/window sensors. Customers must also sign up for a 60-month monitoring contract with this.
    • No-contract plan: Guardian sells a no-contract option for customers, but the upfront cost is much higher. For $1,249, customers can get the 3-1-1 system with an IQ2 control panel, a motion detector and three door/window sensors, along with one month of monitoring. Customers can choose to add more monitoring.

    What Guardian Protection customers say

Guardian Protection has mostly positive feedback on our site. Common themes from satisfied customers include positive experience with customer service and installation teams and overall satisfaction with the service, especially the monitoring service and remote access to the system through Guardian Protection’s mobile app. Some customers did describe issues, mostly dealing with contract terms and cancellation fees.

I like the price of Guardian. The system is wonderful. It works for me. I'm not gadget-fancy and it does what I need it to do and that's wonderful for me. When I use it, I don't have any issues with it. When I have interactions with their team, it's great but it is very seldom because their equipment never fails.”

    Ronald of Cincinnati, OH

Bottom line: ADT or Guardian Protection?

ADT and Guardian Protection are both fairly expensive home security solutions, although Guardian Protection offers more flexibility on contracts and package types. ADT is a great option if you want a wide range of product types and security benefits, however. Both companies’ equipment is professionally installed and monitored, meaning your security solution will be backed by expertise and support. No matter who you choose, you’ll find a solid package that makes sense for your needs.

    • ADT is best for someone who wants a full-service solution for home automation and protection.
    • Guardian Protection is best for someone who wants a hyper-customized solution and is able to cover the cost.
