Sanyo should not be allowed to sell TVs any more. After reading all these reviews, it's the same stuff over and over. What a scam! It's like they know what they are doing and yet they still sell TVs that is messed up. I, too, have a 42 inch Sanyo TV that worked fine until last night! I fell asleep and when i woke up, I heard sound but there was no picture. There's no nice way to say your products are junk and Sanyo obviously likes to rip people off. I'm **.

Great sound and no picture. Yes, I too, paid way too much for this TV from Wal-Mart. I am very disappointed because it will cost at least $700 to fix and we all know that TVs are much cheaper now. I think that Wal-Mart or Sanyo should step up, state what the problem is and either replace the TV or refund. They know there is a problem just by looking at the complaints, yet, silence. Yet again, corporations giving us the boot!

It would cost me more to hire an attorney and for what? An attorney shouldn't even be involved when a corporation knows what they are doing wrong and doesn't acknowledge the wrong-doing. The attorney makes money, the corporation already made money and the consumer is asked to pay for the attorney and still out of a TV. Pretty unreasonable and that's me being nice.

My wife purchased me a 46" Sanyo LCD model DP42848 TV for father’s day in June 2008, like many others from Wal-Mart. This TV was great until yesterday, January 14th, 2012. I turned it on. It had sound but no picture at all. I messed with it for a while with no success. In 2008 this TV was almost a thousand dollars. What a waste of money! I have the book that came with it, so I called and did receive a tech. He had me hook it, back up, and press the reset button twice on the remote, with no success. This is all they could tell me to do, take it to a shop. These TVs have dropped so much in price for a reason; they are junk! I will never purchase another Sanyo product either. I will read these types of reviews before I ever buy another TV.

In 2007, I purchased a 48 inch plasma TV (Sanyo). I purchased this brand because I have had good luck with Sanyo products in the past. I paid $1200 for this TV. Of course, the same TV is now $600. I also purchased the extended warranty. Well, go figure that as soon as my three-year warranty ran out, so did the TV. First the screen went out and a few minutes later the sound went out. After calling Walmart, they told me to contact Sanyo, which I did and that was a huge waste of time.

The rep from Sanyo said, "Hey, we have some super deals going right now on our new TVs." That was the last thing I wanted to hear and after I researched it, I found out all of these models have the same problem at approximately the same time. So now I have a $1200 broken piece of crap that is good for nothing other than a target. The sad thing is Sanyo does not stand by their product and Walmart does not either. This is a factory defect I am sure of it. There should be a class action lawsuit filed against Sanyo for this issue.

A little over 3 years ago, we purchased a 46" LCD Sanyo Flatscreen HDTV from Wal-Mart for about $1000. It worked fine for the first couple of years, then the problems began. First, the sound would intermittently go out, and the TV had to be turned on/off to restore it. Then we noticed a dark "cloud" on the screen, though the picture was still visible. Later, the entire left half of the screen would stay dark for 15-30 minutes after turning on the TV, then it would clear up. Now, we have vertical, multicolored lines across the top 1/4th of the screen. Eventually, the colors will go away, but there remains horizontal "static" in that space which distorts the picture. I will never purchase a Sanyo product again.

I bought a 47-inch TV from Walmart. I got a good deal on it because it was a floor model. The sales rep said nothing wrong with it and appeared so. I worked for about a year and then started to fade in and out on the right side. I called Walmart, they told me to call Sanyo. Sanyo said they can't cover under warranty because it is a floor model. Walmart said they don't warranty floor models. Problem seems to go away when we tap the back of the TV, however, it is progressively getting worst. I'm never buying Sanyo again or buying a TV from Walmart. No one seems to stand by their product.

Last year, I had bought a Sanyo LCD 47" TV, which worked fine, and had a great quality picture. For the past 3 months, we've been dealing with a faded screen on the right side, followed by a horrible multicolored streaking throughout the screen, to where the picture is gone completely. The problem lasts about 20 minutes, until it apparently warms up, or until we get desperate enough, and tap the back lightly. I have never experienced something so irritating. We've had a repair man come look at the TV , and he didn't even touch the TV. We showed him what happens, and he said you can't fix it. A month later, we got a refund for the TV, which was the hardest to get.

Wal-Mart wouldn't take responsibility for the refund, so we had to go through the company. I had to call the repairman a hundred times, until he finally filed that my TV was unrepairable. It's been 2 months since then, and the TV still works. I don't want to get another, until it goes out, and until I can trust a company to buy a TV from. I really honestly think that the problem with the TV is a bad circuit. If this happens to not just me, something should be done. I don't want to spend almost a grand on something I know will go out in the future.

I have a 32" Sanyo LCD TV purchased in May 2010. It has completely died twice now. I have brought it to the TV repair shop and had it brought back to life. It has died for the third time. Upon recommendation of the TV repair shop, they recommended not spending more money on repairs. FYI - I used a previously approved Sanyo repair shop. They are only not on the approved list now that Panasonic bought Sanyo. And this shop declined to be on the vendor list due to the pricing structure. I called Sanyo and all they said was that it was out of warranty and to bring it to a repair shop. I did that and the TV is still like a dead weight on my floor. I expected a bit more life out of this TV. I am extremely unhappy and disappointed with this TV and the customer service and the experience with this company.

Well, I bought a 51 inch Sanyo plasma TV that from the beginning the sound has been crap. I have tried it on every setting and still sound is crap. Now the damn thing when I turn it on turns off and then right back on with a clicking noise. It has been about 90 minutes and this thing has turned on and off about 35-40 times. Evidently, Walmart and Sanyo could care less about all of the same complaints. I mean the TV that this one replaced was from high school and I am 33 years of age now. Yes, I know things are not made like they used to but man last more than a year. I personally will not be buying another Sanyo nor another TV from Walmart.

The green power light turns on but nothing happens with the screen, no picture, no sound. Our warranty was up four months ago and I'm sure that Sanyo will do little to help us. From reading the other posts, this is a major problem that Sanyo needs to face. People are being taken for their money, thinking they are buying a quality TV. I'm shocked, and very angry that this has happened. Sanyo has lost another customer.

We have 48" Sanyo LCD TV (model number dp46849, manufactured in May 2009). Not long after our warranty expired we, like everyone else, started having problems with our TV. First the sound started going in and out, which we thought was the cable box but later figured out was the TV. Not long after the sound started messing up, we started getting vertical lines on one side of the screen. We were able to temporally fix the problem by gently twisting the TV like a dish towel. The lines would go away for a little bit, but then return.

Now the problem has gotten way worse, and twisting the TV no longer works. Now sometimes half the screen turns black and the lines distort the whole screen. I never had the money to buy a flat screen TV in the first place, and I sure don't have the money to repair or replace the TV, so I'm out $800 and have no TV. Thanks a lot Sanyo and Wal-Mart! We will never buy Sanyo products ever again! I will also tell everyone I know to not buy Sanyo products because they are junk and are pretty much a waste of money.

I have a Sanyo TV model #DP15647 that is approximately 2.5 to 3 years old. It had been working fine until about a month ago. The screen just went blank, but I still had sound. I e-mailed Sanyo, and after about a week, I finally got a response. I was told to hit the reset button and if that didn't help, I would have to get it serviced. I have tried their remedy, but it didn't help. I can turn the TV off and back on, and I have a picture for anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds and then it goes blank again.

I have learned from reading these posts that it is useless to contact Sanyo, as they have no intentions of doing anything about it. I can't imagine a company having so many identical complaints and not even offering to correct it. Well, I have corrected it myself--I have purchased a new TV, and it's not a Sanyo!

We purchased our 46 inch Sanyo TV in late spring, early summer of 2009 and it worked decently for the $800 we paid for it at Wal-Mart. The sound has always randomly cut out but turning it off and on always fixed it. But now, as of last night, the right side of the screen started to go black and fade colors (kinda like when you'd push on an old calculators screen) and lines would go through it. And it kept doing this for like 15 minutes and then it stopped. We had tried adjusting the connections in the back and it seemed to fix it and now it is doing it again tonight. From what I've read on here, I can only expect this problem to get worse. Hopefully, it can last until income taxes come in at least. That will be our only hope of possibly affording a new TV, which will not be another Sanyo.

Same thing with mine, I have to turn it on, sometimes 20 times, before it actually comes on with sound and picture. When I turn the power button on, I have sound. But that is it.

I agree that with this many complaints, there should be some sort of legal action taken, so we can either get a new TV or compensated some way. We saved for a while to make this purchase, and it just disgusts me that a company as big as Sanyo or Wal-mart could do us this way. It takes multiple tries of turning the TV on and off to resolve the issue. But it continues everytime I try turning the TV off and then on.

We have also discovered that if you tap the side of the TV, it goes away as well, leading me to believe that something inside is loose. I do feel for the amount of money we spent on this TV, that this should not be happening. And it is very apparent that my TV is not the only one that is acting this way. I purchased my husband a Sanyo big screen TV for Christmas in 2009. Yesterday, it stopped working. I have had issues with it in the past, having picture and no sound, or sound and no picture. Yesterday the TV started turning itself off and on, and will no longer work. Sanyo has given me the runaround, and never connects me to the customer service representative, who is supposed to help me. We have no money to waste on such items.

I have gone out to the utility building, and brought inside our 19 inch Magnavox that was purchased in 2002, and it still works great, even after being in the storage building for 3 years. I will never purchase another Sanyo, and feel that all people who have had these issues with all of these television sets, should be rewarded with new sets, or the sets should be repaired, at the cost of Sanyo. This is ridiculous for consumers to have these issues, especially with our economy the way it is. We are living on a very low salary and can barely afford to live and definitely cannot afford to buy another TV now.

I pulled out the paperwork on the TV only to find that an $800 TV only has a 1 year warranty. In this economy $800 is a sizable amount to invest in consumer electronics; obviously Sanyo knows they are producing a sub standard product which is why they only offer a 1 year warranty.

Sanyo 37" HD 1080 model # DP37819 is a piece of junk. The TV is a little over 14 months old. It is used very little (2-3 hours a day). I have been turning it off and on 2-4 times to get the picture to stay on. It was just black. Now recently it’s been. On top of that problem, it has gone green on me several times. So, I got online and started reading about these other problems others have been having, all seeming to be pretty much the same problem happening. So what does that say? There should have been a recall from Sanyo. It’s a real shame that I can’t buy an American made or find someone who tries to even back up their warranties. Sanyo you suck **. And Wal-Mart you’re even worse for selling junk and not replacing it to us Americans that pay your bills.

Maybe we Americans need to start to boycott Wal-Mart if they want to keep taking our hard-earned money, knowing good and well that they are selling lemons to us. Who cares as long as they make their money, right? So I say let’s all boycott to Wal-Mart and to Sanyo for sure. Tell everyone we know what kind of crap they’re selling to us. And let’s quit buying it. We can stop this if we all refuse to purchase their junk. Let’s start a petition to send into Sanyo, stating we all want our junk to be reimbursed or to give us a new TV that works. They will give us something in writing, stating they will replace that TV as well if it stops working properly within the said period of time. Or, just give us our ** money back so we can go to purchase a real TV that’s not going to break down within the 1st year of usage.

I say why don’t all of you send me your complaints in writing, and I will work on trying to get us all compensated for our losses. I can’t promise we will get anything, but we can sure as hell give it a try. I will contact our local media and try to get the word out if others agree with me here and want to do something about it. I feel like Wal-Mart took over so many MA and PA shops, and they shut them all down. But I know those stores would have done everything in their power to keep us consumers happy. But Wal-Mart has gotten so big. They just don’t care if they get a few hundred or thousand customers mad about a product they sold to us. Well, I disagree. It is due time for them to step up to the plate. So let’s do this.

If you agree, then send me your complaints in writing, by mail, and let’s see what we can do. We will take this step by step. It may cost us a few bucks somewhere down the road if we need an attorney’s help. So I will keep you all posted. I am just tired of being ripped off as I am not wealthy, and I am disabled, and don’t have the funds to replace a TV every time it breaks down. If you agree, let’s stand up for our rights. And I hope we can make a difference in this situation. I’m determined to give it hell. How about you? I hope to hear from all of you and your friends and family members too. Spread the word to everyone you know. I’m sure there are more people that haven’t even written in to this yet.

The TV was still under warranty so he got hold of Sanyo and they wanted us to drive 2 hours away to one of their dealers to have it fixed. After an hour of arguing with them, they sent a repair up to us. The main board was messed up. They had to order the part. We thought they fixed the problem. "Wrong, the main board was messed up again! " The repair man came out again and so it was fixed. Right?

No! A few months later we had a house fire. The fire started in our living room. The fire investigator determined the origin of the fire came from the area in back of the Sanyo TV. Thankfully, we were not home. But a week before the fire we were hearing zap buzzing sounds coming out of the TV, a sound we had heard before. My suggestion for anyone that has a Sanyo TV is to get rid of it. If I knew how to sue Sanyo for the pain and suffering of losing my home, my cat, my children's baby books, every moment of happiness our home brought to us, I would. I ran across this site hoping to find a solution to my singing flat screen problem but from the reviews, looks like I may not. I have had my 48-inch flat screen for a couple of years now. But about a year from the day I bought it from Walmart, it would cut off after about ten seconds. The only way I can get it to stay on is to keep pressing the power button until it finally stays on. If I let it cut off by itself, it will stay off. So I unplug it for a couple of minutes, then it will let me click it on again. My poor son has to sit with the remote in his hand constantly pushing the on/off button for sometimes almost an hour. That's the only way to get it to stay on. It takes longer when its cold in the room so I'm thinking it has to do with some heating mechanism. Basically, I just keep turning it on and off until it will stay on, and if you see that it's not ready to stay on by itself, hurry and turn it on and off a few more times until it heats up. It seems as if it has to warm up before it will stay on. I hope this will help ease a little pain.

My wife called Sanyo and they informed us that the warranty was up and instead gave us a number for a repairman. The representative said it would be $65 for the visit and between #200-400 for the repair. She also stated that the all flat screens are only good for 3 to 4 years. I don't think that's true, for $800 it should last a lot longer than that! So now we are watching, using a 1996 model GE that still works fine.

After a year of regular daily use, I started getting 12-inch black horizontal lines across the screen. I would start to tap and bang the set and it would temporarily disappear. And sometimes as the TV warmed up for hours, it would be okay. I see that others are having the same problems. I paid $1000 for a set that I thought being Sanyo was a good deal. I guess I was wrong. I will never buy Sanyo brand again. This set was assembled in Mexico. You get what you pay for. Sanyo or Wal-Mart should stand behind their products, especially the high-ticketed items. I trusted this product due to it being sold by Wal-Mart. Otherwise, I would not have bought it. I would support a class action suit against Sanyo.

My son can fix electronics, he looked at the TV it seems to need a new main board the board is $160. Sanyo won't sale it unless you are a licensed repair shop. Why? I am so unhappy. This TV should have lasted longer than one year and if the TVs are going to break so often Sanyo should be selling the parts to repair them it would not be worth fixing if I had to take it to be repaired. I have a GE TV it is over 11 years old still works great! I wish I had not gone with Sanyo. Won't make that mistake again! I called Sanyo who would do nothing because it was out of warranty. I took the TV in to a repair shop who told me it was a PCB board and would be about $200.00 with labor to repair. Seeing that we paid $474.00 for this TV two years earlier, I am opting not to have it repaired. That said, I will never, ever buy another Sanyo product again! Never! $474.00 is a lot of money to me and my friend.

What is even more sickening to me is that some fools in government listened to some lobbyist and lined their pockets with money telling us that we needed new TVs. At first, we thought that the scene being shown has a cloudy sky but we realized later that it does not disappear. Then, a month ago, a line on the upper portion of the screen appeared, specifically 1/4 of the whole screen, and which would disappear maybe 30 minutes after the TV set is switched on. It is so disheartening because we could barely afford this kind of TV and saved so much for it (around $1,000). They claimed that if their prior efforts didn't work, then they didn't know what was wrong. I told them they still had the option to replace it, they said no. Well to make a very long story short, It took 9 months and lots of calls, most unanswered or unreturned to finally get some resolve.

I wrote to the president of the company and finally they are replacing my TV. However, I am pretty certain that the unit they are replacing this one with is of lesser quality then the one I purchased. They are replacing it with a DP50719. If this be the case, I will be contacting them and they will be replacing the replacement with one equal to the price and quality I paid for my original set.

Sanyo does not stand by their product which are of poor quality and the customer service is less then adequate. If I had the means to replace it, I would. I will never purchase a Sanyo TV ever again.

I bought 3 new Sanyo 32", 42" and 46" LCD HDTV's from Walmart. The 46" has a dark shadow that appears on the left side to the middle of the screen. This started to occur after about a year from purchase. I have discovered that it is a common problem with this set. Sanyo will not stand behind this common problem even though it is ongoing. I have stood beside Sanyo with many dedicated purchases and even helped build up their reputation among others only to be reminded that they will not stand behind their product.

The economic problem is that it will cost me over $1000.00 for one year of TV. I was with them 100%. However, I cannot give them any more of my business when they show no appreciation.

I have had a Sanyo 46” HDTV for 2 years and 3 months. It started getting blacked out sections that come and go and has been getting worse. Half of the TV turns black and will persist for hours. I called Sanyo and considering that the product is past the normal 1 year manufacturer’s warranty, the best that they verbally offered was sell me another Sanyo HDTV for something like $480 (discounted). A check on consumer reports shows that this problem is very common with this product. This manufacturer should definitely be held accountable. I’m looking for someone who can assist.

Sanyo Vizon 42" (model no. DP42746, S/N B63390911158142, Chassis no. 42746-00, build date Sept. 2006) plasma TV purchased at Wal-Mart in 2006 has failed with same problem seen by others. TV powers up, green indicator light and relay heard clicking once. However, screen remains black. Unable to display menu or hear sound. The TV worked great and had a fantastic picture until then. However, it is unacceptable for a $1500 TV to only last four years!

Based on this being a frequent issue seen with Sanyo plasma TVs, I will not recommend Sanyo as source for TVs. I will contact Sanyo for resolution. However, given the unit is out of warranty, I don't expect corrective action from Sanyo or Wal-Mart.

This is garbage and someone from Sanyo needs to pay for ripping hardworking people off.If anyone has information about this lawsuit or you have heard about theseminarian please say something!

I purchased a Sanyo 19" LCD flat screen TV Model DP19648 from Wal-Mart on 10/4/08 for $257.00. By March of 2010 the TV would not get a picture or sound. I contacted Sanyo and they gave me the name of a Sanyo repairman in my area. I brought the TV to him and he said the Main Board is out and it would cost $200 to repair. I don't know if anyone is accustomed to buying a TV every 15 months. I have had TV's last for 15 years. This was my first and last Sanyo product!

I purchased a TV, Sanyo 42" Plasma (DP42746), from Wal-mart in 2007 and paid $1000.00 for it. Over the last 6 months, the screen kept turning black over the bottom half of the screen and then yesterday everything just went black and no sound. I called and asked Wal-Mart and Sanyo about the problem and they stated their was nothing they could do for me.

I read on the internet that there is a class action lawsuit against Sanyo for this problem, but I cannot locate it to join the lawsuit. I have another Sanyo TV that is a 38" LCD and I am hoping that the same problems don't happen with it as well. It is wrong that a company knows that they have major defects in their product and refuse to reconcile the problem. Please help.

I called Sanyo and told them that my 50 inch flat screen would go off by itself after about 15 minutes of viewing. They told me that someone would contact me the next day after the case was reviewed. They called and said that they could not help me. The TV is only two months out of the 12-month warranty. I told them that I would never buy their product again. They gave me a repairman number in this area and it will cost half of what I paid for the TV. It's just not fair.

My father purchased a Sanyo 42" LCD TV in April of 2008. He is in his mid 80's and his wife has only partial vision in one eye. This was their first large screen TV and they were so excited that my mom would be able to see the TV! Since they are an older couple, they don't have any young grandchildren and they thought Sanyo was a 'reputable' company. They did not purchase the extended warranty (it would have been out anyway). Never in all their years of purchasing TVs have they had a problem. TVs in the past have always lasted for many, many years. Please note: They are on a fixed income and they saved up for close to a year to purchase a TV that my mom could see. We live in the desert so they are not able to sit outside and enjoy the weather because it's 110 degrees plus outside.

In early July of 2010, they turned the TV on and got a black screen. We called the satellite company, everything was fine with their settings. We called Sanyo and my husband was told, "Too bad so sad, its not worth fixing.” I called customer service and got the same answer. I asked to speak to a manager and was told to call back the following day and speak to Harvey at extension 1700. He was no help! Finally, after continuing to express my horror at their answer, he told me to email him and 'plea my case'. This was his way of trying to get me off the phone. I have been calling and emailing him for a week now and still I’m not getting any response. His boss is out of town this week, you can bet your bottom dollar I will be calling him first thing Monday morning when he returns.

I will continue to update this site and let you know what type of results I get.

This is not a complaint, rather a follow up describing a resolution. In regard to the Daniel of Boulder City, NV, post dated June 20th, 2010, there has been satisfactory resolution. The original complaint described a Sanyo 32 inch LCD TV that failed. After writing two respectful letters to Sanyo describing in symptomatic detail how my TV failed, a Sanyo representative contacted me at the end of June, and asked me to return the TV to the Wal-Mart where it was purchased for either a replacement or a full refund.

So, after communicating with Sanyo North American Corp headquartered in San Diego, CA, in a respectful way, they sought resolution to the problem I was having. Sanyo deserves credit for "stepping up to the plate" and being responsible. It is regrettable that the TV failed because it had convenient features, a great picture and sound. Sanyo directed Wal-Mart to ship the defective TV back to their headquarters for technical analysis, so I hope they find out what has troubled so many Sanyo HDTV owners.

On November 8th, 2009, I bought a Sanyo model # DP46848 LCD TV from Walmart in Batavia, NY. By early May 2010, it started having the right half of screen staying darker than left side of screen. I called Sanyo and spoke with a technician who asked if I had an extended warranty to which I answered no. The tech then explained the screen on the TV was shot and was not worth fixing and also seeing it was more than a year (1 1/2 years) since I purchased the TV that there was nothing he could do for me. He also stated that most LCDs made now are throw-aways. I did tell the tech that maybe after 10 years, it should be a throw away but not after a year and a half. The conversation ended there.
