I bought a Sanyo TV (Model: DP42848) in 2009 for $800.00 from Walmart. Here we are, two years later, and it has started to have black lines running down from the top of the screen, turns itself off, sometimes has sound and sometimes it does not. It is absolutely heart breaking that I paid so much for a TV that ** out on me after two years! And, of course, no one can do anything for me. I will never buy another TV from Walmart nor will I ever buy another Sanyo! This is a royal waste of my hard earned money! Thanks, Sanyo!

I bought a 42" Sanyo LCD TV at Walmart in December 2008 to replace a more than 20-year old RCA console floor. I turned it on the other day and all I got is a sound and a black screen. I was not very happy with life of this TV. TVs should last longer than this. I won't buy Sanyo again.

I ran across this site hoping to find a solution to my singing flat screen problem but from the reviews, looks like I may not. I have had my 48-inch flat screen for a couple of years now. But about a year from the day I bought it from Walmart, it would cut off after about ten seconds. The only way I can get it to stay on is to keep pressing the power button until it finally stays on. If I let it cut off by itself, it will stay off. So I unplug it for a couple of minutes, then it will let me click it on again. My poor son has to sit with the remote in his hand constantly pushing the on/off button for sometimes almost an hour. That's the only way to get it to stay on. It takes longer when its cold in the room so I'm thinking it has to do with some heating mechanism. Basically, I just keep turning it on and off until it will stay on, and if you see that it's not ready to stay on by itself, hurry and turn it on and off a few more times until it heats up. It seems as if it has to warm up before it will stay on. I hope this will help ease a little pain.

I had just recently bought a 47-inch LCD television from Walmart only for it to shut off about 6 times a day, and now it won't even stay on at all. I have tried to contact someone about this problem but I can't get any response. This TV is only 6 months old and I am very frustrated with it. I think it is a shame people work to have nice things that work correctly and Sanyo is taking advantage of that by selling faulty products. I am a young widow of four children and cannot afford to buy another TV anytime soon.

In 2009, I purchased a 42" flat screen from Walmart. I really enjoyed the TV until 9-19-11. Now the TV comes on for a second, then goes black but the sound still works fine. My wife called Sanyo and they informed us that the warranty was up and instead gave us a number for a repairman. The representative said it would be $65 for the visit and between #200-400 for the repair. She also stated that the all flat screens are only good for 3 to 4 years. I don't think that's true, for $800 it should last a lot longer than that! So now we are watching, using a 1996 model GE that still works fine.

I purchased a Sanyo TV model no. DP26640 in June 2010. Recently, while watching a program, the volume automatically increased to a piercing level and the picture went black. I called the cable provider because I thought it was the cable box, but discovered it was the television after I tried unplugging the unit, switching outlets, changing its location and having the box replaced. Sanyo told me I would have to pay for repairs because the unit is out of warranty. Are they freaking kidding me? Why should I have to pay for repairs on a brand new television that, obviously, was faulty from the start?

I purchased a Sanyo DP46848 LCD television from my local Walmart on 2/3/09. We have the credit card transaction and the TV, but no receipt. The TV worked fine for about a year and a half. Then it started to get lines at the top of the screen, covering about 6" of the top of the screen. We have been watching it like this since then. Now, 9/7/11, the whole left side of the TV screen goes black as well, like what happened at the top of the screen before. I have finally had enough. The trouble is, it is out of warranty. I come to find, there are a lot of other people with the same problems. What options do I have at this point?

I bought a 50" Plasma from Walmart, Model No: DP 50749 and Serial No. B9471026060075. It turned off by itself while my family was watching a movie together and it will not turn back on. It did not have a power surge, as the cable box that is hooked in the same power strip did not go out. I have unplugged it and tried to turn it on. The green light shows up and the TV makes the clicking sound but there is no picture or sound. I did some research and found a web site with people with similar problems. I have a SANYO 32-inch bulb TV for 9 years and it still works great. So when I decided to buy a plasma, getting a SANYO was a no-brainier. I refuse to believe a company with such high standards would standby while so many customers are having the same problem with one of their products. I have had this TV for a little over a year. I bought the extended warranty and Walmart says it is not there problem. I was directed to the web site. I called the number, but of course, no one was there. What is the problem? Who can I call to fix it? Did I pay $1,000 dollars for a paper weight? Please help!

I called Sanyo to let them know that my television (Model DP42848) is not covered under warranty anymore. It is only 2-3 years old and now the screen is turning black. I said I had also seen a Consumer Affairs blog about the problems with their TVs and he said, "I think that you have overstated the problem." He has only heard of this problem happening a few times. I asked if there was a recall. He said this problem was not that big of an issue and there were no recalls. He gave me a number to a repair service. I really thought it was a problem with my cable company, but now I am much wiser. Sometimes, we have to just fight for the principle of the matter and this is worth fighting for. Shame on you Walmart, and shame to you Sanyo for marketing and selling a substandard product. This will not be the last you will hear from me. I am so tired of getting jerked around at every pass. When I got a tax refund, I purchased a Sanyo TV DP42848 46 inch flat screen for $1,000. I had the item for 5 months and it started turning itself off.
I called because it is still under warranty. They brought it in and replaced the main circuit board and I was told the TV will work fine after that. I then moved 900 miles, packed the TV in its original box with Styrofoam and took great care of the item by storing it in temperature controlled environment. I got a house, set up the TV and it worked for 6 months.
I turned it on one morning, had sounds for 10 seconds with black screen, and after 10 seconds, the sound was gone too! Now, when I turned it on, it flashes a blue screen that tells me to hook up an antenna, **? It was still hooked up! I called Sanyo and spoke to 6 different people, including supervisors and I told them that they should extend the warranty because it already had problems when it was just 5 month old. Then, exactly on its 2nd birthday the ** thing is ** out again!
I am a single mother and I work hard for the money I earn. I thought Sanyo was a good product, I was wrong! I am so disappointed, I will never purchase another Sanyo product again! They do nothing! I didn't fork out $1,000 for a lemon but that's exactly what I got. This model number cannot even be found on their website now. The whole purpose of me buying this TV is because the TV I had done the same thing--different company and Walmart will not honor or even help out. My son can fix electronics, he looked at the TV it seems to need a new main board the board is $160. Sanyo won't sale it unless you are a licensed repair shop. Why? I am so unhappy. This TV should have lasted longer than one year and if the TVs are going to break so often Sanyo should be selling the parts to repair them it would not be worth fixing if I had to take it to be repaired. I have a GE TV it is over 11 years old still works great! I wish I had not gone with Sanyo. Won't make that mistake again! I wonder is the common denominator Walmart is walmart getting substandard products.

Both Walmart and Sanyo refused to help me, saying that the TV was out of warranty. I had it repaired for an additional $400.00 and after nine months, the screen has gone black again and I only get sound. I'm now out $1,600 for a TV that lasted two years. I bought a 46" flat screen DP46848 from Walmart in July 2008 for approximately $1,000. A few months in I started getting small black vertical lines on each side. In April 2011, it started blacking out the top part of the screen, then the bottom part. It comes and goes, but sticks around. I was amazed that everyone is having the same problem. I would like to know how many complaints they have to receive in order to initiate a recall for this product. My last TV was a 50" and is 11 years old and still working. This is a huge shame on Sanyo. They really need to make this right. A $1,000 TV should last more than 2 - 3 years. How do you start a class action suit?

Sanyo is junk. From reading all other complaints, it seems there should be a recall. My son is bummed out as it was a birthday gift. My friend bought a Sanyo flat screen TV for me from WalMart in 2008. I am not an avid TV watcher so it was not used on a regular basis. In December of 2010, I turned it on and the sound went out. I called Sanyo who would do nothing because it was out of warranty. I took the TV in to a repair shop who told me it was a PCB board and would be about $200.00 with labor to repair. Seeing that we paid $474.00 for this TV two years earlier, I am opting not to have it repaired. That said, I will never, ever buy another Sanyo product again! Never! $474.00 is a lot of money to me and my friend.
To think that that money was wasted makes me sick. What is even more sickening to me is that some fools in government listened to some lobbyist and lined their pockets with money telling us that we needed new TVs. I got rid of my 20-year-old Mitsubishi that had never given me one ounce of trouble. I replaced it with crap and now I have nothing. Thank you Sanyo, you have made me realize that you sell junk. At first, we thought that the scene being shown has a cloudy sky but we realized later that it does not disappear. Then, a month ago, a line on the upper portion of the screen appeared, specifically 1/4 of the whole screen, and which would disappear maybe 30 minutes after the TV set is switched on. It is so disheartening because we could barely afford this kind of TV and saved so much for it (around $1,000). Research shows that Sanyo has many of the same/similar problems with their TVs after a very short lifespan. I purchased a TV, Sanyo 42" Plasma (DP42746), from Wal-mart in 2007 and paid $1000.00 for it. Over the last 6 months, the screen kept turning black over the bottom half of the screen and then yesterday everything just went black and no sound. I called and asked Wal-Mart and Sanyo about the problem and they stated their was nothing they could do for me.
I read on the internet that there is a class action lawsuit against Sanyo for this problem, but I cannot locate it to join the lawsuit. I have another Sanyo TV that is a 38" LCD and I am hoping that the same problems don't happen with it as well. It is wrong that a company knows that they have major defects in their product and refuse to reconcile the problem. Please help.

My father purchased a Sanyo 42" LCD TV in April of 2008. He is in his mid 80's and his wife has only partial vision in one eye. This was their first large screen TV and they were so excited that my mom would be able to see the TV! Since they are an older couple, they don't have any young grandchildren and they thought Sanyo was a 'reputable' company. They did not purchase the extended warranty (it would have been out anyway). Never in all their years of purchasing TVs have they had a problem. TVs in the past have always lasted for many, many years. Please note: They are on a fixed income and they saved up for close to a year to purchase a TV that my mom could see. We live in the desert so they are not able to sit outside and enjoy the weather because it's 110 degrees plus outside.
In early July of 2010, they turned the TV on and got a black screen. We called the satellite company, everything was fine with their settings. We called Sanyo and my husband was told, "Too bad so sad, its not worth fixing.” I called customer service and got the same answer. I asked to speak to a manager and was told to call back the following day and speak to Harvey at extension 1700. He was no help! Finally, after continuing to express my horror at their answer, he told me to email him and 'plea my case'. This was his way of trying to get me off the phone. I have been calling and emailing him for a week now and still I’m not getting any response. His boss is out of town this week, you can bet your bottom dollar I will be calling him first thing Monday morning when he returns.
I will continue to update this site and let you know what type of results I get.

This is not a complaint, rather a follow up describing a resolution. In regard to the Daniel of Boulder City, NV, post dated June 20th, 2010, there has been satisfactory resolution. The original complaint described a Sanyo 32 inch LCD TV that failed. After writing two respectful letters to Sanyo describing in symptomatic detail how my TV failed, a Sanyo representative contacted me at the end of June, and asked me to return the TV to the Wal-Mart where it was purchased for either a replacement or a full refund.
So, after communicating with Sanyo North American Corp headquartered in San Diego, CA, in a respectful way, they sought resolution to the problem I was having. Sanyo deserves credit for "stepping up to the plate" and being responsible. It is regrettable that the TV failed because it had convenient features, a great picture and sound. Sanyo directed Wal-Mart to ship the defective TV back to their headquarters for technical analysis, so I hope they find out what has troubled so many Sanyo HDTV owners.

I called Sanyo and spoke with a technician who asked if I had an extended warranty to which I answered no. The tech then explained the screen on the TV was shot and was not worth fixing and also seeing it was more than a year (1 1/2 years) since I purchased the TV that there was nothing he could do for me. I purchased a Sanyo 32" HD TV at a local Wal-Mart in January of 2010. The TV worked well for 60 days and then started malfunctioning. At the end of April, the TV would turn on for two seconds, and then go black without sound. I could not reach a Sanyo representative on their consumer hot line, and tried for three days to do so. Therefore, I took the TV to a local repair shop which noted the malfunction. They were able to contact Sanyo and were directed by Sanyo to tell me to take the TV to a Sanyo approved repair shop.
The TV worked for the Sanyo approved shop, and thought the problem was solved. I brought the TV home and installed it, and now I get two seconds of snow and hiss, and then the TV goes black. I have two other HD TV’s hooked up to my cable service and they work well. On May 15th, I sent a kind and informative letter to Sanyo Corp. narrating my experience and that my TV is still malfunctioning, actually, not working at all. It has been five weeks without any reply from Sanyo Corp. At the end of my letter, I suggested that they replace my TV as a way to resolve the issue. Although, they could communicate with me and ask that I send the TV to their own technicians for analysis and repair, yet think it would be more cost effective to simply replace the TV. The consequences of my failed Sanyo HD TV after 60 days of use and no gesture from Sanyo to replace my TV is that I now have a nonfunctional 32 inch TV that cost 408 dollars, and therefore, the holder of a 408 dollar loss. I purchased a 46" HD TV from Walmart, a Sanyo. I have had this TV for not even 2 years. I purchased it on August 30th, 2008. Last month, maybe on April 25 or so, a light to dark shade came across the set flashed on an off and stayed on for almost the rest of the night. I called a repairman who I was told from Sanyo to call and he, the repairman, said it was the LCD panel and it would cost $1460 more than the TV cost, and now was not available for my set, not that I was going to have it repaired for that kind of money more than the TV was worth. So the question now is no warranty expired, but why do they make TVs and parts that are more than the TV? So no, is it that the ones they sell break down and can’t get parts for so just return them for another? Wrong, not when the warranty is expired, and another TV to purchase from Sanyo, no way. Heck never again from them. I’m now out of $1098, but now have I to purchase another model. If you turn it on more than four times, it will stop coming on at all.
So now we are out a 1200 dollar TV that just sits in the living room reminding us of what we once had. We were lucky my mother and father bought us such a big TV. We can't afford to replace it as the economy is bad right now, so we are left with a big TV that does not work. My husband and I purchased a Sanyo 46" LCD TV the week after Christmas, 2009. On 3/17/10, the TV broke! I was baffled that a brand new TV - less than 3 months old - would break down. My husband called your customer service line. He was given the name/location of a nearby certified Sanyo repair center in Media, PA. My husband took the TV there on 3/18/10. My husband spoke to the repair center on 3/22/10 at which time he was told parts were ordered but they had no idea when the parts would be in. They said the communication from Sanyo regarding parts to repair places was poor.
I called Sanyo customer service that evening. I was told the parts were shipped that day and would be to the repair center in 2 business days. I was also told I could call Sanyo customer service at any time to verify when the parts were delivered as Sanyo can track that information. If Sanyo can track the parts, why isn't that shared with the repair center? So I waited 2 days and called customer service on the evening of 3/24/10. This time, I was told the parts would not be delivered to the repair center until Friday, 3/26/10. Needless to say, I was annoyed that I had been given contradictory information just 2 days prior.
So I waited until Friday and called the repair center. I got their answering machine which indicated I should leave a message and I would receive a phone call the next business day. I left a message with all the required information. The repair center is open on Saturday. When my husband dropped off the TV for repair, he was told they are open and do business on Saturdays. I received no call today, so I called the repair center again early this afternoon (around 2 pm) and left a message. Apparently, you cannot speak to a live person at this place. I still have not heard from them.
This will sound like a made up story but it isn't. My husband and I were happy with the TV (good picture, easy to use, good price). We have been saving to buy 2 additional TVs - a 19" and a 26" - for other rooms in our house. We had already looked at and priced Sanyos. The bottom line is, I am extremely frustrated. I am still amazed that my brand new, less-than-3-months-old TV broke in the first place. And no one has done anything to expedite the repairs. I am paying additional money to my cable provider for high def service and a high definition converter box. I have not been able to utilized the high definition since the TV broke as it is the only high definition TV I own. I will never again buy a Sanyo product if this situation is an example of the quality of their products and the customer service they provide.

My husband called Sanyo and was told it had been over one year and there was nothing they would do since we hadn't purchased one of their extended warranties when we bought the TV. In February of this year we took the set to a repairman to get it fixed. The repairman also had problems with Sanyo and found that a major component would have to be replaced to repair the set. We just had to ask him to bring the set back. It would have cost almost as much to fix the set as it cost originally. The gift by itself was and is appreciated, but it’s more about these really huge companies, I guess. I turned the Sanyo 26" digital TV off the other night and the next morning when I turned it on, I only had sound with no picture.
At first, of course, I thought it might be my fault in that I could have pressed a button on the remote controller that caused the Sanyo TV not to have a picture come up. I believe that Sanyo got a little ahead of itself jumping on the digital TV bandwagon and purchased or manufactured inferior components for the units they sold here in America.
